Abu Kurayb Muhammad ibn al-Ala’ and Muhammad ibn Tarif al-Kufi told us: Ibn al-Fudayl told us, on the authority of al-A’mash, on the authority of Abd al-Malik ibn Maysarah, on the authority of al-Nazzal ibn Sabra, who said: Ali was brought a jug of water while he was in the courtyard, so he took a handful of it, washed his hands, rinsed his mouth, sniffed water into his nostrils, and wiped his face, arms, and head. Then he drank while standing, then he said: This is the ablution of one who has not broken his ablution. This is how I saw the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, do it.

Qutaybah ibn Sa’id and Yusuf ibn Hammad told us: ‘Abd al-Warith ibn Sa’id told us, on the authority of Abu ‘Asam, on the authority of Anas ibn Malik, that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to breathe into the vessel three times when he drank, and he would say: “It is more wholesome and more satisfying.”

Ali ibn Khashram told us, saying: Isa ibn Yunus told us, on the authority of Rishdin ibn Kurayb, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn Abbas: that when the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, drank, he would breathe twice.

Ibn Abi Umar told us, saying: Sufyan told us, on the authority of Yazid ibn Yazid ibn Jabir, on the authority of Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Amrah, on the authority of his grandmother Kabshah, who said: The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, entered upon me and drank from a hanging water skin while standing, so I went to its mouth and cut it off.

Muhammad ibn Bashar told us, saying: Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi told us, saying: Azrah ibn Thabit al-Ansari told us, on the authority of Thumamah ibn Abd Allah, who said: Anas ibn Malik used to breathe into the vessel three times, and Anas claimed that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to breathe into the vessel three times.

Abdullah ibn Abd al-Rahman told us: Abu Asim told us, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, on the authority of Abd al-Karim, on the authority of al-Bara’ ibn Zayd ibn Ibnat Anas ibn Malik, on the authority of Anas ibn Malik, that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, entered upon Umm Sulaym, and there was a water skin hanging there. He drank from the mouth of the water skin while he was standing, so Umm Sulaym stood up to the top of the water skin. She cut it off.

Ahmad ibn Nasr al-Naysaburi told us, saying: Ishaq ibn Muhammad al-Farwi told us, saying: Ubaydah bint Na’il told us, on the authority of Aishah bint Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas, on the authority of her father, that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to drink while standing. Abu Isa said: And some of them said: Ubaydah bint Nabil.
