ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
٢٨:١
طسٓمٓ Ta Seem Meem tta-seen-meem
Ta Seem Meem
١ (1)
(1)
Ṭā, Seen, Meem.
٢٨:٢
تِلْكَ These til'ka
These
ءَايَـٰتُ (are the) Verses āyātu
(are the) Verses
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book
ٱلْمُبِينِ the clear l-mubīni
the clear
٢ (2)
(2)
These are verses of the clear Book.
٢٨:٣
نَتْلُوا۟ We recite natlū
We recite
عَلَيْكَ to you ʿalayka
to you
مِن from min
from
نَّبَإِ (the) news naba-i
(the) news
مُوسَىٰ (of) Musa mūsā
(of) Musa
وَفِرْعَوْنَ and Firaun wafir'ʿawna
and Firaun
بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth bil-ḥaqi
in truth
لِقَوْمٍۢ for a people liqawmin
for a people
يُؤْمِنُونَ who believe yu'minūna
who believe
٣ (3)
(3)
We recite to you from the news of Moses and Pharaoh in truth for a people who believe.
٢٨:٤
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
فِرْعَوْنَ Firaun fir'ʿawna
Firaun
عَلَا exalted himself ʿalā
exalted himself
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the land l-arḍi
the land
وَجَعَلَ and made wajaʿala
and made
أَهْلَهَا its people ahlahā
its people
شِيَعًۭا (into) sects shiyaʿan
(into) sects
يَسْتَضْعِفُ oppressing yastaḍʿifu
oppressing
طَآئِفَةًۭ a group ṭāifatan
a group
مِّنْهُمْ among them min'hum
among them
يُذَبِّحُ slaughtering yudhabbiḥu
slaughtering
أَبْنَآءَهُمْ their sons abnāahum
their sons
وَيَسْتَحْىِۦ and letting live wayastaḥyī
and letting live
نِسَآءَهُمْ ۚ their women nisāahum
their women
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he innahu
Indeed, he
كَانَ was kāna
was
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ the corrupters l-muf'sidīna
the corrupters
٤ (4)
(4)
Indeed, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land and made its people into factions, oppressing a sector among them, slaughtering their [newborn] sons and keeping their females alive. Indeed, he was of the corrupters.
٢٨:٥
وَنُرِيدُ And We wanted wanurīdu
And We wanted
أَن to an
to
نَّمُنَّ bestow a favor namunna
bestow a favor
عَلَى upon ʿalā
upon
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ٱسْتُضْعِفُوا۟ were oppressed us'tuḍ'ʿifū
were oppressed
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the land l-arḍi
the land
وَنَجْعَلَهُمْ and make them wanajʿalahum
and make them
أَئِمَّةًۭ leaders a-immatan
leaders
وَنَجْعَلَهُمُ and make them wanajʿalahumu
and make them
ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ the inheritors l-wārithīna
the inheritors
٥ (5)
(5)
And We wanted to confer favor upon those who were oppressed in the land and make them leaders and make them inheritors
٢٨:٦
وَنُمَكِّنَ And [We] establish wanumakkina
And [We] establish
لَهُمْ them lahum
them
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the land l-arḍi
the land
وَنُرِىَ and show wanuriya
and show
فِرْعَوْنَ Firaun fir'ʿawna
Firaun
وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ and Haman wahāmāna
and Haman
وَجُنُودَهُمَا and their hosts wajunūdahumā
and their hosts
مِنْهُم through them min'hum
through them
مَّا what
what
كَانُوا۟ they were kānū
they were
يَحْذَرُونَ fearing yaḥdharūna
fearing
٦ (6)
(6)
And establish them in the land and show Pharaoh and [his minister] Hāmān and their soldiers through them that which they had feared.
٢٨:٧
وَأَوْحَيْنَآ And We inspired wa-awḥaynā
And We inspired
إِلَىٰٓ [to] ilā
[to]
أُمِّ (the) mother ummi
(the) mother
مُوسَىٰٓ (of) Musa mūsā
(of) Musa
أَنْ that an
that
أَرْضِعِيهِ ۖ Suckle him arḍiʿīhi
Suckle him
فَإِذَا but when fa-idhā
but when
خِفْتِ you fear khif'ti
you fear
عَلَيْهِ for him ʿalayhi
for him
فَأَلْقِيهِ then cast him fa-alqīhi
then cast him
فِى in(to)
in(to)
ٱلْيَمِّ the river l-yami
the river
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تَخَافِى fear takhāfī
fear
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تَحْزَنِىٓ ۖ grieve taḥzanī
grieve
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We
رَآدُّوهُ (will) restore him rāddūhu
(will) restore him
إِلَيْكِ to you ilayki
to you
وَجَاعِلُوهُ and (will) make him wajāʿilūhu
and (will) make him
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
٧ (7)
(7)
And We inspired to the mother of Moses, "Suckle him; but when you fear for him, cast him into the river and do not fear and do not grieve. Indeed, We will return him to you and will make him [one] of the messengers."
٢٨:٨
فَٱلْتَقَطَهُۥٓ Then picked him up fal-taqaṭahu
Then picked him up
ءَالُ (the) family ālu
(the) family
فِرْعَوْنَ (of) Firaun fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
لِيَكُونَ so that he might become liyakūna
so that he might become
لَهُمْ to them lahum
to them
عَدُوًّۭا an enemy ʿaduwwan
an enemy
وَحَزَنًا ۗ and a grief waḥazanan
and a grief
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
فِرْعَوْنَ Firaun fir'ʿawna
Firaun
وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ and Haman wahāmāna
and Haman
وَجُنُودَهُمَا and their hosts wajunūdahumā
and their hosts
كَانُوا۟ were kānū
were
خَـٰطِـِٔينَ sinners khāṭiīna
sinners
٨ (8)
(8)
And the family of Pharaoh picked him up [out of the river] so that he would become to them an enemy and a [cause of] grief. Indeed, Pharaoh and Hāmān and their soldiers were deliberate sinners.
٢٨:٩
وَقَالَتِ And said waqālati
And said
ٱمْرَأَتُ (the) wife im'ra-atu
(the) wife
فِرْعَوْنَ (of) Firaun fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
قُرَّتُ A comfort qurratu
A comfort
عَيْنٍۢ (of the) eye ʿaynin
(of the) eye
لِّى for me
for me
وَلَكَ ۖ and for you walaka
and for you
لَا (Do) not
(Do) not
تَقْتُلُوهُ kill him taqtulūhu
kill him
عَسَىٰٓ perhaps ʿasā
perhaps
أَن (that) an
(that)
يَنفَعَنَآ he may benefit us yanfaʿanā
he may benefit us
أَوْ or aw
or
نَتَّخِذَهُۥ we may take him nattakhidhahu
we may take him
وَلَدًۭا (as) a son waladan
(as) a son
وَهُمْ And they wahum
And they
لَا (did) not
(did) not
يَشْعُرُونَ perceive yashʿurūna
perceive
٩ (9)
(9)
And the wife of Pharaoh said, "[He will be] a comfort of the eye [i.e., pleasure] for me and for you. Do not kill him; perhaps he may benefit us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceived not.
٢٨:١٠
وَأَصْبَحَ And became wa-aṣbaḥa
And became
فُؤَادُ (the) heart fuādu
(the) heart
أُمِّ (of the) mother ummi
(of the) mother
مُوسَىٰ (of) Musa mūsā
(of) Musa
فَـٰرِغًا ۖ empty fārighan
empty
إِن That in
That
كَادَتْ she was near kādat
she was near
لَتُبْدِى (to) disclosing latub'dī
(to) disclosing
بِهِۦ about him bihi
about him
لَوْلَآ if not lawlā
if not
أَن that an
that
رَّبَطْنَا We strengthened rabaṭnā
We strengthened
عَلَىٰ [over] ʿalā
[over]
قَلْبِهَا her heart qalbihā
her heart
لِتَكُونَ so that she would be litakūna
so that she would be
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers l-mu'minīna
the believers
١٠ (10)
(10)
And the heart of Moses' mother became empty [of all else]. She was about to disclose [the matter concerning] him had We not bound fast her heart that she would be of the believers.
٢٨:١١
وَقَالَتْ And she said waqālat
And she said
لِأُخْتِهِۦ to his sister li-ukh'tihi
to his sister
قُصِّيهِ ۖ Follow him quṣṣīhi
Follow him
فَبَصُرَتْ So she watched fabaṣurat
So she watched
بِهِۦ him bihi
him
عَن from ʿan
from
جُنُبٍۢ a distance junubin
a distance
وَهُمْ while they wahum
while they
لَا (did) not
(did) not
يَشْعُرُونَ perceive yashʿurūna
perceive
١١ (11)
(11)
And she said to his sister, "Follow him"; so she watched him from a distance while they perceived not.
٢٨:١٢
۞ وَحَرَّمْنَا And We had forbidden waḥarramnā
And We had forbidden
عَلَيْهِ for him ʿalayhi
for him
ٱلْمَرَاضِعَ the wet nurses l-marāḍiʿa
the wet nurses
مِن before min
before
قَبْلُ before qablu
before
فَقَالَتْ so she said faqālat
so she said
هَلْ Shall I hal
Shall I
أَدُلُّكُمْ direct you adullukum
direct you
عَلَىٰٓ to ʿalā
to
أَهْلِ (the) people ahli
(the) people
بَيْتٍۢ (of) a house baytin
(of) a house
يَكْفُلُونَهُۥ who will rear him yakfulūnahu
who will rear him
لَكُمْ for you lakum
for you
وَهُمْ while they wahum
while they
لَهُۥ to him lahu
to him
نَـٰصِحُونَ (will be) sincere nāṣiḥūna
(will be) sincere
١٢ (12)
(12)
And We had prevented from him [all] wet nurses before, so she said, "Shall I direct you to a household that will be responsible for him for you while they are to him [for his upbringing] sincere?"
٢٨:١٣
فَرَدَدْنَـٰهُ So We restored him faradadnāhu
So We restored him
إِلَىٰٓ to ilā
to
أُمِّهِۦ his mother ummihi
his mother
كَىْ that kay
that
تَقَرَّ might be comforted taqarra
might be comforted
عَيْنُهَا her eye ʿaynuhā
her eye
وَلَا and not walā
and not
تَحْزَنَ she may grieve taḥzana
she may grieve
وَلِتَعْلَمَ and that she would know walitaʿlama
and that she would know
أَنَّ that anna
that
وَعْدَ the Promise of Allah waʿda
the Promise of Allah
ٱللَّهِ the Promise of Allah l-lahi
the Promise of Allah
حَقٌّۭ (is) true ḥaqqun
(is) true
وَلَـٰكِنَّ But walākinna
But
أَكْثَرَهُمْ most of them aktharahum
most of them
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَ know yaʿlamūna
know
١٣ (13)
(13)
So We restored him to his mother that she might be content and not grieve and that she would know that the promise of Allāh is true. But most of them [i.e., the people] do not know.
٢٨:١٤
وَلَمَّا And when walammā
And when
بَلَغَ he reached balagha
he reached
أَشُدَّهُۥ his full strength ashuddahu
his full strength
وَٱسْتَوَىٰٓ and became mature wa-is'tawā
and became mature
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ We bestowed upon him ātaynāhu
We bestowed upon him
حُكْمًۭا wisdom ḥuk'man
wisdom
وَعِلْمًۭا ۚ and knowledge waʿil'man
and knowledge
وَكَذَٰلِكَ And thus wakadhālika
And thus
نَجْزِى We reward najzī
We reward
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ the good-doers l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers
١٤ (14)
(14)
And when he attained his full strength and was [mentally] mature, We bestowed upon him judgement and knowledge. And thus do We reward the doers of good.
٢٨:١٥
وَدَخَلَ And he entered wadakhala
And he entered
ٱلْمَدِينَةَ the city l-madīnata
the city
عَلَىٰ at ʿalā
at
حِينِ a time ḥīni
a time
غَفْلَةٍۢ (of) inattention ghaflatin
(of) inattention
مِّنْ of min
of
أَهْلِهَا its people ahlihā
its people
فَوَجَدَ and found fawajada
and found
فِيهَا therein fīhā
therein
رَجُلَيْنِ two men rajulayni
two men
يَقْتَتِلَانِ fighting each other yaqtatilāni
fighting each other
هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this
مِن of min
of
شِيعَتِهِۦ his party shīʿatihi
his party
وَهَـٰذَا and this wahādhā
and this
مِنْ of min
of
عَدُوِّهِۦ ۖ his enemy ʿaduwwihi
his enemy
فَٱسْتَغَـٰثَهُ And called him for help fa-is'taghāthahu
And called him for help
ٱلَّذِى the one who alladhī
the one who
مِن (was) from min
(was) from
شِيعَتِهِۦ his party shīʿatihi
his party
عَلَى against ʿalā
against
ٱلَّذِى the one who alladhī
the one who
مِنْ (was) from min
(was) from
عَدُوِّهِۦ his enemy ʿaduwwihi
his enemy
فَوَكَزَهُۥ so Musa struck him with his fist fawakazahu
so Musa struck him with his fist
مُوسَىٰ so Musa struck him with his fist mūsā
so Musa struck him with his fist
فَقَضَىٰ and killed him faqaḍā
and killed him
عَلَيْهِ ۖ and killed him ʿalayhi
and killed him
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
هَـٰذَا This (is) hādhā
This (is)
مِنْ of min
of
عَمَلِ (the) deed ʿamali
(the) deed
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ۖ (of) Shaitaan l-shayṭāni
(of) Shaitaan
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he innahu
Indeed, he
عَدُوٌّۭ (is) an enemy ʿaduwwun
(is) an enemy
مُّضِلٌّۭ one who misleads muḍillun
one who misleads
مُّبِينٌۭ clearly mubīnun
clearly
١٥ (15)
(15)
And he entered the city at a time of inattention by its people and found therein two men fighting: one from his faction and one from among his enemy. And the one from his faction called for help to him against the one from his enemy, so Moses struck him and [unintentionally] killed him. [Moses] said, "This is from the work of Satan. Indeed, he is a manifest, misleading enemy."
٢٨:١٦
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
إِنِّى Indeed, I innī
Indeed, I
ظَلَمْتُ [I] have wronged ẓalamtu
[I] have wronged
نَفْسِى my soul nafsī
my soul
فَٱغْفِرْ so forgive fa-igh'fir
so forgive
لِى [for] me
[for] me
فَغَفَرَ Then He forgave faghafara
Then He forgave
لَهُۥٓ ۚ [for] him lahu
[for] him
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed He innahu
Indeed He
هُوَ He (is) huwa
He (is)
ٱلْغَفُورُ the Oft-Forgiving l-ghafūru
the Oft-Forgiving
ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmu
the Most Merciful
١٦ (16)
(16)
He said, "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me," and He forgave him. Indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
٢٨:١٧
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
بِمَآ Because bimā
Because
أَنْعَمْتَ You have favored anʿamta
You have favored
عَلَىَّ [on] me ʿalayya
[on] me
فَلَنْ so not falan
so not
أَكُونَ I will be akūna
I will be
ظَهِيرًۭا a supporter ẓahīran
a supporter
لِّلْمُجْرِمِينَ (of) the criminals lil'muj'rimīna
(of) the criminals
١٧ (17)
(17)
He said, "My Lord, for the favor You bestowed upon me, I will never be an assistant to the criminals."
٢٨:١٨
فَأَصْبَحَ In the morning he was fa-aṣbaḥa
In the morning he was
فِى in
in
ٱلْمَدِينَةِ the city l-madīnati
the city
خَآئِفًۭا fearful khāifan
fearful
يَتَرَقَّبُ (and) was vigilant yataraqqabu
(and) was vigilant
فَإِذَا when behold fa-idhā
when behold
ٱلَّذِى The one who alladhī
The one who
ٱسْتَنصَرَهُۥ sought his help is'tanṣarahu
sought his help
بِٱلْأَمْسِ the previous day bil-amsi
the previous day
يَسْتَصْرِخُهُۥ ۚ cried out to him for help yastaṣrikhuhu
cried out to him for help
قَالَ Said qāla
Said
لَهُۥ to him lahu
to him
مُوسَىٰٓ Musa mūsā
Musa
إِنَّكَ Indeed, you innaka
Indeed, you
لَغَوِىٌّۭ (are) surely a deviator laghawiyyun
(are) surely a deviator
مُّبِينٌۭ clear mubīnun
clear
١٨ (18)
(18)
And he became inside the city fearful and anticipating [exposure], when suddenly the one who sought his help the previous day cried out to him [once again]. Moses said to him, "Indeed, you are an evident, [persistent] deviator."
٢٨:١٩
فَلَمَّآ Then when falammā
Then when
أَنْ [that] an

أَرَادَ he wanted arāda

يَبْطِشَ strike yabṭisha

بِٱلَّذِى the one who bi-alladhī

هُوَ [he] (was) huwa

لَّهُمَا to both of them lahumā

قَالَ he said qāla
he said
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ O Musa yāmūsā
O Musa
أَتُرِيدُ Do you intend aturīdu
Do you intend
أَن to an
to
تَقْتُلَنِى kill me taqtulanī
kill me
كَمَا as kamā
as
قَتَلْتَ you killed qatalta
you killed
نَفْسًۢا a person nafsan
a person
بِٱلْأَمْسِ ۖ yesterday bil-amsi
yesterday
إِن Not in
Not
تُرِيدُ you want turīdu
you want
إِلَّآ but illā
but
أَن that an
that
تَكُونَ you become takūna
you become
جَبَّارًۭا a tyrant jabbāran
a tyrant
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
تُرِيدُ you want turīdu
you want
أَن that an
that
تَكُونَ you be takūna
you be
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْمُصْلِحِينَ the reformers l-muṣ'liḥīna
the reformers
١٩ (19)
(19)
And when he wanted to strike the one who was an enemy to both of them, he said, "O Moses, do you intend to kill me as you killed someone yesterday? You only want to be a tyrant in the land and do not want to be of the amenders."
٢٨:٢٠
وَجَآءَ And came wajāa
And came
رَجُلٌۭ a man rajulun
a man
مِّنْ from min
from
أَقْصَا (the) farthest end aqṣā
(the) farthest end
ٱلْمَدِينَةِ (of) the city l-madīnati
(of) the city
يَسْعَىٰ running yasʿā
running
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ O Musa yāmūsā
O Musa
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلْمَلَأَ the chiefs l-mala-a
the chiefs
يَأْتَمِرُونَ are taking counsel yatamirūna
are taking counsel
بِكَ about you bika
about you
لِيَقْتُلُوكَ to kill you liyaqtulūka
to kill you
فَٱخْرُجْ so leave fa-ukh'ruj
so leave
إِنِّى indeed, I am innī
indeed, I am
لَكَ to you laka
to you
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلنَّـٰصِحِينَ the sincere advisors l-nāṣiḥīna
the sincere advisors
٢٠ (20)
(20)
And a man came from the farthest end of the city, running. He said, "O Moses, indeed the eminent ones are conferring over you [intending] to kill you, so leave [the city]; indeed, I am to you of the sincere advisors."
٢٨:٢١
فَخَرَجَ So he left fakharaja
So he left
مِنْهَا from it min'hā
from it
خَآئِفًۭا fearing khāifan
fearing
يَتَرَقَّبُ ۖ (and) vigilant yataraqqabu
(and) vigilant
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
نَجِّنِى Save me najjinī
Save me
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلْقَوْمِ the people l-qawmi
the people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
٢١ (21)
(21)
So he left it, fearful and anticipating [apprehension]. He said, "My Lord, save me from the wrongdoing people."
٢٨:٢٢
وَلَمَّا And when walammā
And when
تَوَجَّهَ he turned his face tawajjaha
he turned his face
تِلْقَآءَ towards til'qāa
towards
مَدْيَنَ Madyan madyana
Madyan
قَالَ he said qāla
he said
عَسَىٰ Perhaps ʿasā
Perhaps
رَبِّىٓ my Lord rabbī
my Lord
أَن [that] an
[that]
يَهْدِيَنِى will guide me yahdiyanī
will guide me
سَوَآءَ (to the) sound sawāa
(to the) sound
ٱلسَّبِيلِ way l-sabīli
way
٢٢ (22)
(22)
And when he directed himself toward Madyan, he said, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the sound way."
٢٨:٢٣
وَلَمَّا And when walammā
And when
وَرَدَ he came warada
he came
مَآءَ (to the) water māa
(to the) water
مَدْيَنَ (of) Madyan madyana
(of) Madyan
وَجَدَ he found wajada
he found
عَلَيْهِ on it ʿalayhi
on it
أُمَّةًۭ a group ummatan
a group
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلنَّاسِ men l-nāsi
men
يَسْقُونَ watering yasqūna
watering
وَوَجَدَ and he found wawajada
and he found
مِن besides them min
besides them
دُونِهِمُ besides them dūnihimu
besides them
ٱمْرَأَتَيْنِ two women im'ra-atayni
two women
تَذُودَانِ ۖ keeping back tadhūdāni
keeping back
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
مَا What
What
خَطْبُكُمَا ۖ (is the) matter with both of you khaṭbukumā
(is the) matter with both of you
قَالَتَا They said qālatā
They said
لَا We cannot water
We cannot water
نَسْقِى We cannot water nasqī
We cannot water
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
يُصْدِرَ take away yuṣ'dira
take away
ٱلرِّعَآءُ ۖ the shepherds l-riʿāu
the shepherds
وَأَبُونَا and our father wa-abūnā
and our father
شَيْخٌۭ (is) a very old man shaykhun
(is) a very old man
كَبِيرٌۭ (is) a very old man kabīrun
(is) a very old man
٢٣ (23)
(23)
And when he came to the water [i.e., well] of Madyan, he found there a crowd of people watering [their flocks], and he found aside from them two women holding back [their flocks]. He said, "What is your circumstance?" They said, "We do not water until the shepherds dispatch [their flocks]; and our father is an old man."
٢٨:٢٤
فَسَقَىٰ So he watered fasaqā
So he watered
لَهُمَا for them lahumā
for them
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
تَوَلَّىٰٓ he turned back tawallā
he turned back
إِلَى to ilā
to
ٱلظِّلِّ the shade l-ẓili
the shade
فَقَالَ and said faqāla
and said
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
إِنِّى Indeed, I am innī
Indeed, I am
لِمَآ of whatever limā
of whatever
أَنزَلْتَ You send anzalta
You send
إِلَىَّ to me ilayya
to me
مِنْ of min
of
خَيْرٍۢ good khayrin
good
فَقِيرٌۭ (in) need faqīrun
(in) need
٢٤ (24)
(24)
So he watered [their flocks] for them; then he went back to the shade and said, "My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need."
٢٨:٢٥
فَجَآءَتْهُ Then came to him fajāathu
Then came to him
إِحْدَىٰهُمَا one of the two women iḥ'dāhumā
one of the two women
تَمْشِى walking tamshī
walking
عَلَى with ʿalā
with
ٱسْتِحْيَآءٍۢ shyness is'tiḥ'yāin
shyness
قَالَتْ She said qālat
She said
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
أَبِى my father abī
my father
يَدْعُوكَ calls you yadʿūka
calls you
لِيَجْزِيَكَ that he may reward you liyajziyaka
that he may reward you
أَجْرَ (the) reward ajra
(the) reward
مَا (for) what
(for) what
سَقَيْتَ you watered saqayta
you watered
لَنَا ۚ for us lanā
for us
فَلَمَّا So when falammā
So when
جَآءَهُۥ he came to him jāahu
he came to him
وَقَصَّ and narrated waqaṣṣa
and narrated
عَلَيْهِ to him ʿalayhi
to him
ٱلْقَصَصَ the story l-qaṣaṣa
the story
قَالَ he said qāla
he said
لَا (Do) not
(Do) not
تَخَفْ ۖ fear takhaf
fear
نَجَوْتَ You have escaped najawta
You have escaped
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلْقَوْمِ the people l-qawmi
the people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
٢٥ (25)
(25)
Then one of the two women came to him walking with shyness. She said, "Indeed, my father invites you that he may reward you for having watered for us." So when he came to him and related to him the story, he said, "Fear not. You have escaped from the wrongdoing people."
٢٨:٢٦
قَالَتْ Said qālat
Said
إِحْدَىٰهُمَا one of them iḥ'dāhumā
one of them
يَـٰٓأَبَتِ O my father yāabati
O my father
ٱسْتَـْٔجِرْهُ ۖ Hire him is'tajir'hu
Hire him
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
خَيْرَ (the) best khayra
(the) best
مَنِ whom mani
whom
ٱسْتَـْٔجَرْتَ you (can) hire is'tajarta
you (can) hire
ٱلْقَوِىُّ (is) the strong l-qawiyu
(is) the strong
ٱلْأَمِينُ the trustworthy l-amīnu
the trustworthy
٢٦ (26)
(26)
One of the women said, "O my father, hire him. Indeed, the best one you can hire is the strong and the trustworthy."
٢٨:٢٧
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
إِنِّىٓ Indeed, I innī
Indeed, I
أُرِيدُ [I] wish urīdu
[I] wish
أَنْ to an
to
أُنكِحَكَ marry you to unkiḥaka
marry you to
إِحْدَى one iḥ'dā
one
ٱبْنَتَىَّ (of) my daughters ib'natayya
(of) my daughters
هَـٰتَيْنِ (of) these two hātayni
(of) these two
عَلَىٰٓ on ʿalā
on
أَن that an
that
تَأْجُرَنِى you serve me tajuranī
you serve me
ثَمَـٰنِىَ (for) eight thamāniya
(for) eight
حِجَجٍۢ ۖ years ḥijajin
years
فَإِنْ but if fa-in
but if
أَتْمَمْتَ you complete atmamta
you complete
عَشْرًۭا ten ʿashran
ten
فَمِنْ then from famin
then from
عِندِكَ ۖ you ʿindika
you
وَمَآ And not wamā
And not
أُرِيدُ I wish urīdu
I wish
أَنْ to an
to
أَشُقَّ make it difficult ashuqqa
make it difficult
عَلَيْكَ ۚ for you ʿalayka
for you
سَتَجِدُنِىٓ You will find me satajidunī
You will find me
إِن if in
if
شَآءَ Allah wills shāa
Allah wills
ٱللَّهُ Allah wills l-lahu
Allah wills
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ the righteous l-ṣāliḥīna
the righteous
٢٧ (27)
(27)
He said, "Indeed, I wish to wed you one of these, my two daughters, on [the condition] that you serve me for eight years; but if you complete ten, it will be [as a favor] from you. And I do not wish to put you in difficulty. You will find me, if Allāh wills, from among the righteous."
٢٨:٢٨
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
بَيْنِى (is) between me baynī
(is) between me
وَبَيْنَكَ ۖ and between you wabaynaka
and between you
أَيَّمَا Whichever ayyamā
Whichever
ٱلْأَجَلَيْنِ (of) the two terms l-ajalayni
(of) the two terms
قَضَيْتُ I complete qaḍaytu
I complete
فَلَا then no falā
then no
عُدْوَٰنَ injustice ʿud'wāna
injustice
عَلَىَّ ۖ to me ʿalayya
to me
وَٱللَّهُ and Allah wal-lahu
and Allah
عَلَىٰ over ʿalā
over
مَا what
what
نَقُولُ we say naqūlu
we say
وَكِيلٌۭ (is) a Witness wakīlun
(is) a Witness
٢٨ (28)
(28)
[Moses] said, "That is [established] between me and you. Whichever of the two terms I complete - there is no injustice to me, and Allāh, over what we say, is Witness."
٢٨:٢٩
۞ فَلَمَّا Then when falammā
Then when
قَضَىٰ Musa fulfilled qaḍā
Musa fulfilled
مُوسَى Musa fulfilled mūsā
Musa fulfilled
ٱلْأَجَلَ the term l-ajala
the term
وَسَارَ and was traveling wasāra
and was traveling
بِأَهْلِهِۦٓ with his family bi-ahlihi
with his family
ءَانَسَ he saw ānasa
he saw
مِن in min
in
جَانِبِ (the) direction jānibi
(the) direction
ٱلطُّورِ (of) Mount Tur l-ṭūri
(of) Mount Tur
نَارًۭا a fire nāran
a fire
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
لِأَهْلِهِ to his family li-ahlihi
to his family
ٱمْكُثُوٓا۟ Stay here um'kuthū
Stay here
إِنِّىٓ indeed, I innī
indeed, I
ءَانَسْتُ [I] perceive ānastu
[I] perceive
نَارًۭا a fire nāran
a fire
لَّعَلِّىٓ Perhaps laʿallī
Perhaps
ءَاتِيكُم I will bring you ātīkum
I will bring you
مِّنْهَا from there min'hā
from there
بِخَبَرٍ some information bikhabarin
some information
أَوْ or aw
or
جَذْوَةٍۢ a burning wood jadhwatin
a burning wood
مِّنَ from mina
from
ٱلنَّارِ the fire l-nāri
the fire
لَعَلَّكُمْ so that you may laʿallakum
so that you may
تَصْطَلُونَ warm yourselves taṣṭalūna
warm yourselves
٢٩ (29)
(29)
And when Moses had completed the term and was traveling with his family, he perceived from the direction of the mount a fire. He said to his family, "Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire. Perhaps I will bring you from there [some] information or burning wood from the fire that you may warm yourselves."
٢٨:٣٠
فَلَمَّآ But when falammā
But when
أَتَىٰهَا he came (to) it atāhā
he came (to) it
نُودِىَ he was called nūdiya
he was called
مِن from min
from
شَـٰطِئِ (the) side shāṭi-i
(the) side
ٱلْوَادِ (of) the valley l-wādi
(of) the valley
ٱلْأَيْمَنِ the right l-aymani
the right
فِى in
in
ٱلْبُقْعَةِ the place even l-buq'ʿati
the place even
ٱلْمُبَـٰرَكَةِ blessed l-mubārakati
blessed
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلشَّجَرَةِ the tree l-shajarati
the tree
أَن that an
that
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ O Musa yāmūsā
O Musa
إِنِّىٓ Indeed innī
Indeed
أَنَا I Am anā
I Am
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
رَبُّ (the) Lord rabbu
(the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds
٣٠ (30)
(30)
But when he came to it, he was called from the right side of the valley in a blessed spot - from the tree, "O Moses, indeed I am Allāh, Lord of the worlds."
٢٨:٣١
وَأَنْ And [that] wa-an
And [that]
أَلْقِ throw alqi
throw
عَصَاكَ ۖ your staff ʿaṣāka
your staff
فَلَمَّا But when falammā
But when
رَءَاهَا he saw it raāhā
he saw it
تَهْتَزُّ moving tahtazzu
moving
كَأَنَّهَا as if it ka-annahā
as if it
جَآنٌّۭ (were) a snake jānnun
(were) a snake
وَلَّىٰ he turned wallā
he turned
مُدْبِرًۭا (in) flight mud'biran
(in) flight
وَلَمْ and (did) not walam
and (did) not
يُعَقِّبْ ۚ return yuʿaqqib
return
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ O Musa yāmūsā
O Musa
أَقْبِلْ Draw near aqbil
Draw near
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تَخَفْ ۖ fear takhaf
fear
إِنَّكَ Indeed, you innaka
Indeed, you
مِنَ (are) of mina
(are) of
ٱلْـَٔامِنِينَ the secure l-āminīna
the secure
٣١ (31)
(31)
And [he was told], "Throw down your staff." But when he saw it writhing as if it was a snake, he turned in flight and did not return. [Allāh said], "O Moses, approach and fear not. Indeed, you are of the secure.
٢٨:٣٢
ٱسْلُكْ Insert us'luk
Insert
يَدَكَ your hand yadaka
your hand
فِى in
in
جَيْبِكَ your bosom jaybika
your bosom
تَخْرُجْ it will come forth takhruj
it will come forth
بَيْضَآءَ white bayḍāa
white
مِنْ without min
without
غَيْرِ without ghayri
without
سُوٓءٍۢ any harm sūin
any harm
وَٱضْمُمْ And draw wa-uḍ'mum
And draw
إِلَيْكَ to yourselves ilayka
to yourselves
جَنَاحَكَ your hand janāḥaka
your hand
مِنَ against mina
against
ٱلرَّهْبِ ۖ fear l-rahbi
fear
فَذَٰنِكَ So these fadhānika
So these
بُرْهَـٰنَانِ (are) two evidences bur'hānāni
(are) two evidences
مِن from min
from
رَّبِّكَ your Lord rabbika
your Lord
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
فِرْعَوْنَ Firaun fir'ʿawna
Firaun
وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦٓ ۚ and his chiefs wamala-ihi
and his chiefs
إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they innahum
Indeed, they
كَانُوا۟ are kānū
are
قَوْمًۭا a people qawman
a people
فَـٰسِقِينَ defiantly disobedient fāsiqīna
defiantly disobedient
٣٢ (32)
(32)
Insert your hand into the opening of your garment; it will come out white, without disease. And draw in your arm close to you [as prevention] from fear, for those are two proofs from your Lord to Pharaoh and his establishment. Indeed, they have been a people defiantly disobedient."
٢٨:٣٣
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
إِنِّى Indeed innī
Indeed
قَتَلْتُ I killed qataltu
I killed
مِنْهُمْ of them min'hum
of them
نَفْسًۭا a man nafsan
a man
فَأَخَافُ and I fear fa-akhāfu
and I fear
أَن that an
that
يَقْتُلُونِ they will kill me yaqtulūni
they will kill me
٣٣ (33)
(33)
He said, "My Lord, indeed I killed from among them someone, and I fear they will kill me.
٢٨:٣٤
وَأَخِى And my brother wa-akhī
And my brother
هَـٰرُونُ Harun hārūnu
Harun
هُوَ he huwa
he
أَفْصَحُ (is) more eloquent afṣaḥu
(is) more eloquent
مِنِّى than me minnī
than me
لِسَانًۭا (in) speech lisānan
(in) speech
فَأَرْسِلْهُ so send him fa-arsil'hu
so send him
مَعِىَ with me maʿiya
with me
رِدْءًۭا (as) a helper rid'an
(as) a helper
يُصَدِّقُنِىٓ ۖ who will confirm me yuṣaddiqunī
who will confirm me
إِنِّىٓ Indeed innī
Indeed
أَخَافُ I fear akhāfu
I fear
أَن that an
that
يُكَذِّبُونِ they will deny me yukadhibūni
they will deny me
٣٤ (34)
(34)
And my brother Aaron is more fluent than me in tongue, so send him with me as support, verifying me. Indeed, I fear that they will deny me."
٢٨:٣٥
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
سَنَشُدُّ We will strengthen sanashuddu
We will strengthen
عَضُدَكَ your arm ʿaḍudaka
your arm
بِأَخِيكَ through your brother bi-akhīka
through your brother
وَنَجْعَلُ and We will make wanajʿalu
and We will make
لَكُمَا for both of you lakumā
for both of you
سُلْطَـٰنًۭا an authority sul'ṭānan
an authority
فَلَا so not falā
so not
يَصِلُونَ they will reach yaṣilūna
they will reach
إِلَيْكُمَا ۚ to both of you ilaykumā
to both of you
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ Through Our Signs biāyātinā
Through Our Signs
أَنتُمَا you two antumā
you two
وَمَنِ and (those) who wamani
and (those) who
ٱتَّبَعَكُمَا follow you ittabaʿakumā
follow you
ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ (will) be the dominant l-ghālibūna
(will) be the dominant
٣٥ (35)
(35)
[Allāh] said, "We will strengthen your arm through your brother and grant you both supremacy so they will not reach you. [It will be] through Our signs; you and those who follow you will be the predominant."
٢٨:٣٦
فَلَمَّا But when falammā
But when
جَآءَهُم came to them jāahum
came to them
مُّوسَىٰ Musa mūsā
Musa
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا with Our Signs biāyātinā
with Our Signs
بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ clear bayyinātin
clear
قَالُوا۟ they said qālū
they said
مَا Not
Not
هَـٰذَآ (is) this hādhā
(is) this
إِلَّا except illā
except
سِحْرٌۭ a magic siḥ'run
a magic
مُّفْتَرًۭى invented muf'taran
invented
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
سَمِعْنَا we heard samiʿ'nā
we heard
بِهَـٰذَا of this bihādhā
of this
فِىٓ among
among
ءَابَآئِنَا our forefathers ābāinā
our forefathers
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ our forefathers l-awalīna
our forefathers
٣٦ (36)
(36)
But when Moses came to them with Our signs as clear evidences, they said, "This is not except invented magic, and we have not heard of this [religion] among our forefathers."
٢٨:٣٧
وَقَالَ And Musa said waqāla
And Musa said
مُوسَىٰ And Musa said mūsā
And Musa said
رَبِّىٓ My Lord rabbī
My Lord
أَعْلَمُ knows best aʿlamu
knows best
بِمَن of who biman
of who
جَآءَ has come jāa
has come
بِٱلْهُدَىٰ with [the] guidance bil-hudā
with [the] guidance
مِنْ from Him min
from Him
عِندِهِۦ from Him ʿindihi
from Him
وَمَن and who waman
and who
تَكُونُ will be takūnu
will be
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
عَـٰقِبَةُ the good end in the Hereafter ʿāqibatu
the good end in the Hereafter
ٱلدَّارِ ۖ the good end in the Hereafter l-dāri
the good end in the Hereafter
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed innahu
Indeed
لَا not
not
يُفْلِحُ will be successful yuf'liḥu
will be successful
ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimūna
the wrongdoers
٣٧ (37)
(37)
And Moses said, "My Lord is more knowing [than we or you] of who has come with guidance from Him and to whom will be succession in the home. Indeed, wrongdoers do not succeed."
٢٨:٣٨
وَقَالَ And Firaun said waqāla
And Firaun said
فِرْعَوْنُ And Firaun said fir'ʿawnu
And Firaun said
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O chiefs yāayyuhā
O chiefs
ٱلْمَلَأُ O chiefs l-mala-u
O chiefs
مَا Not
Not
عَلِمْتُ I know ʿalim'tu
I know
لَكُم for you lakum
for you
مِّنْ any min
any
إِلَـٰهٍ god ilāhin
god
غَيْرِى other than me ghayrī
other than me
فَأَوْقِدْ So kindle fa-awqid
So kindle
لِى for me
for me
يَـٰهَـٰمَـٰنُ O Haman yāhāmānu
O Haman
عَلَى Upon ʿalā
Upon
ٱلطِّينِ the clay l-ṭīni
the clay
فَٱجْعَل and make fa-ij'ʿal
and make
لِّى for me
for me
صَرْحًۭا a lofty tower ṣarḥan
a lofty tower
لَّعَلِّىٓ so that [I] laʿallī
so that [I]
أَطَّلِعُ I may look aṭṭaliʿu
I may look
إِلَىٰٓ at ilā
at
إِلَـٰهِ (the) God ilāhi
(the) God
مُوسَىٰ (of) Musa mūsā
(of) Musa
وَإِنِّى And indeed, I wa-innī
And indeed, I
لَأَظُنُّهُۥ [I] think that he la-aẓunnuhu
[I] think that he
مِنَ (is) of mina
(is) of
ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ the liars l-kādhibīna
the liars
٣٨ (38)
(38)
And Pharaoh said, "O eminent ones, I have not known you to have a god other than me. Then ignite for me, O Hāmān, [a fire] upon the clay and make for me a tower that I may look at the God of Moses. And indeed, I do think he is among the liars."
٢٨:٣٩
وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ And he was arrogant wa-is'takbara
And he was arrogant
هُوَ And he was arrogant huwa
And he was arrogant
وَجُنُودُهُۥ and his hosts wajunūduhu
and his hosts
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the land l-arḍi
the land
بِغَيْرِ without bighayri
without
ٱلْحَقِّ right l-ḥaqi
right
وَظَنُّوٓا۟ and they thought waẓannū
and they thought
أَنَّهُمْ that they annahum
that they
إِلَيْنَا to Us ilaynā
to Us
لَا not
not
يُرْجَعُونَ will be returned yur'jaʿūna
will be returned
٣٩ (39)
(39)
And he was arrogant, he and his soldiers, in the land, without right, and they thought that they would not be returned to Us.
٢٨:٤٠
فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُ So We seized him fa-akhadhnāhu
So We seized him
وَجُنُودَهُۥ and his hosts wajunūdahu
and his hosts
فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُمْ and We threw them fanabadhnāhum
and We threw them
فِى in
in
ٱلْيَمِّ ۖ the sea l-yami
the sea
فَٱنظُرْ So see fa-unẓur
So see
كَيْفَ how kayfa
how
كَانَ was kāna
was
عَـٰقِبَةُ (the) end ʿāqibatu
(the) end
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ (of) the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
(of) the wrongdoers
٤٠ (40)
(40)
So We took him and his soldiers and threw them into the sea. So see how was the end of the wrongdoers.
٢٨:٤١
وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ And We made them wajaʿalnāhum
And We made them
أَئِمَّةًۭ leaders a-immatan
leaders
يَدْعُونَ inviting yadʿūna
inviting
إِلَى to ilā
to
ٱلنَّارِ ۖ the Fire l-nāri
the Fire
وَيَوْمَ and (on the) Day wayawma
and (on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
لَا not
not
يُنصَرُونَ they will be helped yunṣarūna
they will be helped
٤١ (41)
(41)
And We made them leaders inviting to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection they will not be helped.
٢٨:٤٢
وَأَتْبَعْنَـٰهُمْ And We caused to follow them wa-atbaʿnāhum
And We caused to follow them
فِى in
in
هَـٰذِهِ this hādhihi
this
ٱلدُّنْيَا world l-dun'yā
world
لَعْنَةًۭ ۖ a curse laʿnatan
a curse
وَيَوْمَ and (on the) Day wayawma
and (on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
هُم they hum
they
مِّنَ (will be) of mina
(will be) of
ٱلْمَقْبُوحِينَ the despised l-maqbūḥīna
the despised
٤٢ (42)
(42)
And We caused to overtake them in this world a curse, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be of the despised.
٢٨:٤٣
وَلَقَدْ And verily walaqad
And verily
ءَاتَيْنَا We gave ātaynā
We gave
مُوسَى Musa mūsā
Musa
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Scripture l-kitāba
the Scripture
مِنۢ after [what] min
after [what]
بَعْدِ after [what] baʿdi
after [what]
مَآ after [what]
after [what]
أَهْلَكْنَا We had destroyed ahlaknā
We had destroyed
ٱلْقُرُونَ the generations l-qurūna
the generations
ٱلْأُولَىٰ former l-ūlā
former
بَصَآئِرَ (as) an enlightenment baṣāira
(as) an enlightenment
لِلنَّاسِ for the mankind lilnnāsi
for the mankind
وَهُدًۭى and a guidance wahudan
and a guidance
وَرَحْمَةًۭ and mercy waraḥmatan
and mercy
لَّعَلَّهُمْ that they may laʿallahum
that they may
يَتَذَكَّرُونَ remember yatadhakkarūna
remember
٤٣ (43)
(43)
And We gave Moses the Scripture, after We had destroyed the former generations, as enlightenment for the people and guidance and mercy that they might be reminded.
٢٨:٤٤
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
كُنتَ you were kunta
you were
بِجَانِبِ on (the) side bijānibi
on (the) side
ٱلْغَرْبِىِّ western l-gharbiyi
western
إِذْ when idh
when
قَضَيْنَآ We decreed qaḍaynā
We decreed
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
مُوسَى Musa mūsā
Musa
ٱلْأَمْرَ the Commandment l-amra
the Commandment
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
كُنتَ you were kunta
you were
مِنَ among mina
among
ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ the witnesses l-shāhidīna
the witnesses
٤٤ (44)
(44)
And you, [O Muḥammad], were not on the western side [of the mount] when We revealed to Moses the command, and you were not among the witnesses [to that].
٢٨:٤٥
وَلَـٰكِنَّآ But We walākinnā
But We
أَنشَأْنَا [We] produced anshanā
[We] produced
قُرُونًۭا generations qurūnan
generations
فَتَطَاوَلَ and prolonged fataṭāwala
and prolonged
عَلَيْهِمُ for them ʿalayhimu
for them
ٱلْعُمُرُ ۚ the life l-ʿumuru
the life
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
كُنتَ you were kunta
you were
ثَاوِيًۭا a dweller thāwiyan
a dweller
فِىٓ among
among
أَهْلِ (the) people ahli
(the) people
مَدْيَنَ (of) Madyan madyana
(of) Madyan
تَتْلُوا۟ reciting tatlū
reciting
عَلَيْهِمْ to them ʿalayhim
to them
ءَايَـٰتِنَا Our Verses āyātinā
Our Verses
وَلَـٰكِنَّا but We walākinnā
but We
كُنَّا [We] were kunnā
[We] were
مُرْسِلِينَ the Senders mur'silīna
the Senders
٤٥ (45)
(45)
But We produced [many] generations [after Moses], and prolonged was their duration. And you were not a resident among the people of Madyan, reciting to them Our verses, but We were senders [of this message].
٢٨:٤٦
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
كُنتَ you were kunta
you were
بِجَانِبِ at (the) side bijānibi
at (the) side
ٱلطُّورِ (of) the Tur l-ṭūri
(of) the Tur
إِذْ when idh
when
نَادَيْنَا We called nādaynā
We called
وَلَـٰكِن But walākin
But
رَّحْمَةًۭ (as) a mercy raḥmatan
(as) a mercy
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّكَ your Lord rabbika
your Lord
لِتُنذِرَ so that you warn litundhira
so that you warn
قَوْمًۭا a people qawman
a people
مَّآ not
not
أَتَىٰهُم (had) come to them atāhum
(had) come to them
مِّن any min
any
نَّذِيرٍۢ warner nadhīrin
warner
مِّن before you min
before you
قَبْلِكَ before you qablika
before you
لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may laʿallahum
so that they may
يَتَذَكَّرُونَ remember yatadhakkarūna
remember
٤٦ (46)
(46)
And you were not at the side of the mount when We called [Moses] but [were sent] as a mercy from your Lord to warn a people to whom no warner had come before you that they might be reminded.
٢٨:٤٧
وَلَوْلَآ And if not walawlā
And if not
أَن [that] an
[that]
تُصِيبَهُم struck them tuṣībahum
struck them
مُّصِيبَةٌۢ a disaster muṣībatun
a disaster
بِمَا for what bimā
for what
قَدَّمَتْ had sent forth qaddamat
had sent forth
أَيْدِيهِمْ their hands aydīhim
their hands
فَيَقُولُوا۟ and they would say fayaqūlū
and they would say
رَبَّنَا Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord
لَوْلَآ Why not lawlā
Why not
أَرْسَلْتَ You sent arsalta
You sent
إِلَيْنَا to us ilaynā
to us
رَسُولًۭا a Messenger rasūlan
a Messenger
فَنَتَّبِعَ so we (could have) followed fanattabiʿa
so we (could have) followed
ءَايَـٰتِكَ Your Verses āyātika
Your Verses
وَنَكُونَ and we (would) have been wanakūna
and we (would) have been
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers l-mu'minīna
the believers
٤٧ (47)
(47)
And if not that a disaster should strike them for what their hands put forth [of sins] and they would say, "Our Lord, why did You not send us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses and been among the believers?"...
٢٨:٤٨
فَلَمَّا But when falammā
But when
جَآءَهُمُ came to them jāahumu
came to them
ٱلْحَقُّ the truth l-ḥaqu
the truth
مِنْ from Us min
from Us
عِندِنَا from Us ʿindinā
from Us
قَالُوا۟ they said qālū
they said
لَوْلَآ Why not lawlā
Why not
أُوتِىَ he was given ūtiya
he was given
مِثْلَ (the) like mith'la
(the) like
مَآ (of) what
(of) what
أُوتِىَ was given ūtiya
was given
مُوسَىٰٓ ۚ (to) Musa mūsā
(to) Musa
أَوَلَمْ Did not awalam
Did not
يَكْفُرُوا۟ they disbelieve yakfurū
they disbelieve
بِمَآ in what bimā
in what
أُوتِىَ was given ūtiya
was given
مُوسَىٰ (to) Musa mūsā
(to) Musa
مِن before min
before
قَبْلُ ۖ before qablu
before
قَالُوا۟ They said qālū
They said
سِحْرَانِ Two magic (works) siḥ'rāni
Two magic (works)
تَظَـٰهَرَا supporting each other taẓāharā
supporting each other
وَقَالُوٓا۟ And they said waqālū
And they said
إِنَّا Indeed, we innā
Indeed, we
بِكُلٍّۢ in all bikullin
in all
كَـٰفِرُونَ (are) disbelievers kāfirūna
(are) disbelievers
٤٨ (48)
(48)
But when the truth came to them from Us, they said, "Why was he not given like that which was given to Moses?" Did they not disbelieve in that which was given to Moses before? They said, "[They are but] two works of magic supporting each other, and indeed we are, in both, disbelievers."
٢٨:٤٩
قُلْ Say qul
Say
فَأْتُوا۟ Then bring fatū
Then bring
بِكِتَـٰبٍۢ a Book bikitābin
a Book
مِّنْ from Allah min
from Allah
عِندِ from Allah ʿindi
from Allah
ٱللَّهِ from Allah l-lahi
from Allah
هُوَ which huwa
which
أَهْدَىٰ (is) a better guide ahdā
(is) a better guide
مِنْهُمَآ than both of them min'humā
than both of them
أَتَّبِعْهُ that I may follow it attabiʿ'hu
that I may follow it
إِن if in
if
كُنتُمْ you are kuntum
you are
صَـٰدِقِينَ truthful ṣādiqīna
truthful
٤٩ (49)
(49)
Say, "Then bring a scripture from Allāh which is more guiding than either of them that I may follow it, if you should be truthful."
٢٨:٥٠
فَإِن But if fa-in
But if
لَّمْ not lam
not
يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ they respond yastajībū
they respond
لَكَ to you laka
to you
فَٱعْلَمْ then know fa-iʿ'lam
then know
أَنَّمَا that only annamā
that only
يَتَّبِعُونَ they follow yattabiʿūna
they follow
أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ their desires ahwāahum
their desires
وَمَنْ And who waman
And who
أَضَلُّ (is) more astray aḍallu
(is) more astray
مِمَّنِ than (one) who mimmani
than (one) who
ٱتَّبَعَ follows ittabaʿa
follows
هَوَىٰهُ his own desire hawāhu
his own desire
بِغَيْرِ without bighayri
without
هُدًۭى guidance hudan
guidance
مِّنَ from mina
from
ٱللَّهِ ۚ Allah l-lahi
Allah
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
لَا (does) not
(does) not
يَهْدِى guide yahdī
guide
ٱلْقَوْمَ the people l-qawma
the people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
٥٠ (50)
(50)
But if they do not respond to you - then know that they only follow their [own] desires. And who is more astray than one who follows his desire without guidance from Allāh? Indeed, Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people.
٢٨:٥١
۞ وَلَقَدْ And indeed walaqad
And indeed
وَصَّلْنَا We have conveyed waṣṣalnā
We have conveyed
لَهُمُ to them lahumu
to them
ٱلْقَوْلَ the Word l-qawla
the Word
لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may laʿallahum
so that they may
يَتَذَكَّرُونَ remember yatadhakkarūna
remember
٥١ (51)
(51)
And We have [repeatedly] conveyed to them the word [i.e., the Qur’ān] that they might be reminded.
٢٨:٥٢
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ We gave them ātaynāhumu
We gave them
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Scripture l-kitāba
the Scripture
مِن before it min
before it
قَبْلِهِۦ before it qablihi
before it
هُم they hum
they
بِهِۦ in it bihi
in it
يُؤْمِنُونَ believe yu'minūna
believe
٥٢ (52)
(52)
Those to whom We gave the Scripture before it - they are believers in it.
٢٨:٥٣
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when
يُتْلَىٰ it is recited yut'lā
it is recited
عَلَيْهِمْ to them ʿalayhim
to them
قَالُوٓا۟ they say qālū
they say
ءَامَنَّا We believe āmannā
We believe
بِهِۦٓ in it bihi
in it
إِنَّهُ Indeed, it innahu
Indeed, it
ٱلْحَقُّ (is) the truth l-ḥaqu
(is) the truth
مِن from min
from
رَّبِّنَآ our Lord rabbinā
our Lord
إِنَّا Indeed, we innā
Indeed, we
كُنَّا [we] were kunnā
[we] were
مِن before it min
before it
قَبْلِهِۦ before it qablihi
before it
مُسْلِمِينَ Muslims mus'limīna
Muslims
٥٣ (53)
(53)
And when it is recited to them, they say, "We have believed in it; indeed, it is the truth from our Lord. Indeed we were, [even] before it, Muslims [i.e., submitting to Allāh]."
٢٨:٥٤
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
يُؤْتَوْنَ will be given yu'tawna
will be given
أَجْرَهُم their reward ajrahum
their reward
مَّرَّتَيْنِ twice marratayni
twice
بِمَا because bimā
because
صَبَرُوا۟ they are patient ṣabarū
they are patient
وَيَدْرَءُونَ and they repel wayadraūna
and they repel
بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ with good bil-ḥasanati
with good
ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ the evil l-sayi-ata
the evil
وَمِمَّا and from what wamimmā
and from what
رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ We have provided them razaqnāhum
We have provided them
يُنفِقُونَ they spend yunfiqūna
they spend
٥٤ (54)
(54)
Those will be given their reward twice for what they patiently endured and [because] they avert evil through good, and from what We have provided them they spend.
٢٨:٥٥
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when
سَمِعُوا۟ they hear samiʿū
they hear
ٱللَّغْوَ vain talk l-laghwa
vain talk
أَعْرَضُوا۟ they turn away aʿraḍū
they turn away
عَنْهُ from it ʿanhu
from it
وَقَالُوا۟ and say waqālū
and say
لَنَآ For us lanā
For us
أَعْمَـٰلُنَا our deeds aʿmālunā
our deeds
وَلَكُمْ and for you walakum
and for you
أَعْمَـٰلُكُمْ your deeds aʿmālukum
your deeds
سَلَـٰمٌ Peace (be) salāmun
Peace (be)
عَلَيْكُمْ on you ʿalaykum
on you
لَا not
not
نَبْتَغِى we seek nabtaghī
we seek
ٱلْجَـٰهِلِينَ the ignorant l-jāhilīna
the ignorant
٥٥ (55)
(55)
And when they hear ill speech, they turn away from it and say, "For us are our deeds, and for you are your deeds. Peace will be upon you; we seek not the ignorant."
٢٨:٥٦
إِنَّكَ Indeed, you innaka
Indeed, you
لَا (can) not
(can) not
تَهْدِى guide tahdī
guide
مَنْ whom man
whom
أَحْبَبْتَ you love aḥbabta
you love
وَلَـٰكِنَّ but walākinna
but
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
يَهْدِى guides yahdī
guides
مَن whom man
whom
يَشَآءُ ۚ He wills yashāu
He wills
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
أَعْلَمُ (is) most knowing aʿlamu
(is) most knowing
بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ (of) the guided ones bil-muh'tadīna
(of) the guided ones
٥٦ (56)
(56)
Indeed, [O Muḥammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allāh guides whom He wills. And He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided.
٢٨:٥٧
وَقَالُوٓا۟ And they say waqālū
And they say
إِن If in
If
نَّتَّبِعِ we follow nattabiʿi
we follow
ٱلْهُدَىٰ the guidance l-hudā
the guidance
مَعَكَ with you maʿaka
with you
نُتَخَطَّفْ we would be swept nutakhaṭṭaf
we would be swept
مِنْ from min
from
أَرْضِنَآ ۚ our land arḍinā
our land
أَوَلَمْ Have not awalam
Have not
نُمَكِّن We established numakkin
We established
لَّهُمْ for them lahum
for them
حَرَمًا a sanctuary ḥaraman
a sanctuary
ءَامِنًۭا secure āminan
secure
يُجْبَىٰٓ are brought yuj'bā
are brought
إِلَيْهِ to it ilayhi
to it
ثَمَرَٰتُ fruits thamarātu
fruits
كُلِّ (of) all kulli
(of) all
شَىْءٍۢ things shayin
things
رِّزْقًۭا a provision riz'qan
a provision
مِّن from min
from
لَّدُنَّا Us ladunnā
Us
وَلَـٰكِنَّ But walākinna
But
أَكْثَرَهُمْ most of them aktharahum
most of them
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَ know yaʿlamūna
know
٥٧ (57)
(57)
And they [i.e., the Quraysh] say, "If we were to follow the guidance with you, we would be swept from our land." Have We not established for them a safe sanctuary to which are brought the fruits of all things as provision from Us? But most of them do not know.
٢٨:٥٨
وَكَمْ And how many wakam
And how many
أَهْلَكْنَا We have destroyed ahlaknā
We have destroyed
مِن of min
of
قَرْيَةٍۭ a town qaryatin
a town
بَطِرَتْ which exulted baṭirat
which exulted
مَعِيشَتَهَا ۖ (in) its means of livelihood maʿīshatahā
(in) its means of livelihood
فَتِلْكَ And these fatil'ka
And these
مَسَـٰكِنُهُمْ (are) their dwellings masākinuhum
(are) their dwellings
لَمْ not lam
not
تُسْكَن have been inhabited tus'kan
have been inhabited
مِّنۢ after them min
after them
بَعْدِهِمْ after them baʿdihim
after them
إِلَّا except illā
except
قَلِيلًۭا ۖ a little qalīlan
a little
وَكُنَّا And indeed, [We] wakunnā
And indeed, [We]
نَحْنُ We naḥnu
We
ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ (are) the inheritors l-wārithīna
(are) the inheritors
٥٨ (58)
(58)
And how many a city have We destroyed that was insolent in its [way of] living, and those are their dwellings which have not been inhabited after them except briefly. And it is We who were the inheritors.
٢٨:٥٩
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
كَانَ was kāna
was
رَبُّكَ your Lord rabbuka
your Lord
مُهْلِكَ (the) one to destroy muh'lika
(the) one to destroy
ٱلْقُرَىٰ the towns l-qurā
the towns
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
يَبْعَثَ He (had) sent yabʿatha
He (had) sent
فِىٓ in
in
أُمِّهَا their mother (town) ummihā
their mother (town)
رَسُولًۭا a Messenger rasūlan
a Messenger
يَتْلُوا۟ reciting yatlū
reciting
عَلَيْهِمْ to them ʿalayhim
to them
ءَايَـٰتِنَا ۚ Our Verses āyātinā
Our Verses
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
كُنَّا We would be kunnā
We would be
مُهْلِكِى (the) one to destroy muh'likī
(the) one to destroy
ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ the towns l-qurā
the towns
إِلَّا except illā
except
وَأَهْلُهَا while their people wa-ahluhā
while their people
ظَـٰلِمُونَ (were) wrongdoers ẓālimūna
(were) wrongdoers
٥٩ (59)
(59)
And never would your Lord have destroyed the cities until He had sent to their mother [i.e., principal city] a messenger reciting to them Our verses. And We would not destroy the cities except while their people were wrongdoers.
٢٨:٦٠
وَمَآ And whatever wamā
And whatever
أُوتِيتُم you have been given ūtītum
you have been given
مِّن from min
from
شَىْءٍۢ things shayin
things
فَمَتَـٰعُ (is) an enjoyment famatāʿu
(is) an enjoyment
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ (of the) life l-ḥayati
(of the) life
ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
وَزِينَتُهَا ۚ and its adornment wazīnatuhā
and its adornment
وَمَا And what wamā
And what
عِندَ (is) with ʿinda
(is) with
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
خَيْرٌۭ (is) better khayrun
(is) better
وَأَبْقَىٰٓ ۚ and more lasting wa-abqā
and more lasting
أَفَلَا So (will) not afalā
So (will) not
تَعْقِلُونَ you use intellect taʿqilūna
you use intellect
٦٠ (60)
(60)
And whatever thing you [people] have been given - it is [only for] the enjoyment of worldly life and its adornment. And what is with Allāh is better and more lasting; so will you not use reason?
٢٨:٦١
أَفَمَن Then is (he) whom afaman
Then is (he) whom
وَعَدْنَـٰهُ We have promised him waʿadnāhu
We have promised him
وَعْدًا a promise waʿdan
a promise
حَسَنًۭا good ḥasanan
good
فَهُوَ and he fahuwa
and he
لَـٰقِيهِ (will) meet it lāqīhi
(will) meet it
كَمَن like (the one) whom kaman
like (the one) whom
مَّتَّعْنَـٰهُ We provided him mattaʿnāhu
We provided him
مَتَـٰعَ enjoyment matāʿa
enjoyment
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ (of the) life l-ḥayati
(of the) life
ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
هُوَ he huwa
he
يَوْمَ (on the) Day yawma
(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
مِنَ (will be) among mina
(will be) among
ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَ those presented l-muḥ'ḍarīna
those presented
٦١ (61)
(61)
Then is he whom We have promised a good promise which he will meet [i.e., obtain] like he for whom We provided enjoyment of worldly life [but] then he is, on the Day of Resurrection, among those presented [for punishment in Hell]?
٢٨:٦٢
وَيَوْمَ And (the) Day wayawma
And (the) Day
يُنَادِيهِمْ He will call them yunādīhim
He will call them
فَيَقُولُ and say fayaqūlu
and say
أَيْنَ Where ayna
Where
شُرَكَآءِىَ (are) My partners shurakāiya
(are) My partners
ٱلَّذِينَ whom alladhīna
whom
كُنتُمْ you used (to) kuntum
you used (to)
تَزْعُمُونَ claim tazʿumūna
claim
٦٢ (62)
(62)
And [warn of] the Day He will call them and say, "Where are My 'partners' which you used to claim?"
٢٨:٦٣
قَالَ (Will) say qāla
(Will) say
ٱلَّذِينَ those alladhīna
those
حَقَّ (has) come true ḥaqqa
(has) come true
عَلَيْهِمُ against whom ʿalayhimu
against whom
ٱلْقَوْلُ the Word l-qawlu
the Word
رَبَّنَا Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ These hāulāi
These
ٱلَّذِينَ (are) those whom alladhīna
(are) those whom
أَغْوَيْنَآ we led astray aghwaynā
we led astray
أَغْوَيْنَـٰهُمْ We led them astray aghwaynāhum
We led them astray
كَمَا as kamā
as
غَوَيْنَا ۖ we were astray ghawaynā
we were astray
تَبَرَّأْنَآ We declare our innocence tabarranā
We declare our innocence
إِلَيْكَ ۖ before You ilayka
before You
مَا Not
Not
كَانُوٓا۟ they used (to) kānū
they used (to)
إِيَّانَا worship us iyyānā
worship us
يَعْبُدُونَ worship us yaʿbudūna
worship us
٦٣ (63)
(63)
Those upon whom the word will have come into effect will say, "Our Lord, these are the ones we led to error. We led them to error just as we were in error. We declare our disassociation [from them] to You. They did not used to worship [i.e., obey] us."2
٢٨:٦٤
وَقِيلَ And it will be said waqīla
And it will be said
ٱدْعُوا۟ Call id'ʿū
Call
شُرَكَآءَكُمْ your partners shurakāakum
your partners
فَدَعَوْهُمْ And they will call them fadaʿawhum
And they will call them
فَلَمْ but not falam
but not
يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ they will respond yastajībū
they will respond
لَهُمْ to them lahum
to them
وَرَأَوُا۟ and they will see wara-awū
and they will see
ٱلْعَذَابَ ۚ the punishment l-ʿadhāba
the punishment
لَوْ If only law
If only
أَنَّهُمْ [that] they annahum
[that] they
كَانُوا۟ had been kānū
had been
يَهْتَدُونَ guided yahtadūna
guided
٦٤ (64)
(64)
And it will be said, "Invoke your 'partners,'" and they will invoke them; but they will not respond to them, and they will see the punishment. If only they had followed guidance!
٢٨:٦٥
وَيَوْمَ And (the) Day wayawma
And (the) Day
يُنَادِيهِمْ He will call them yunādīhim
He will call them
فَيَقُولُ and say fayaqūlu
and say
مَاذَآ What mādhā
What
أَجَبْتُمُ did you answer ajabtumu
did you answer
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
٦٥ (65)
(65)
And [mention] the Day He will call them and say, "What did you answer the messengers?"
٢٨:٦٦
فَعَمِيَتْ But (will) be obscure faʿamiyat
But (will) be obscure
عَلَيْهِمُ to them ʿalayhimu
to them
ٱلْأَنۢبَآءُ the information l-anbāu
the information
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ that day yawma-idhin
that day
فَهُمْ so they fahum
so they
لَا will not ask one another
will not ask one another
يَتَسَآءَلُونَ will not ask one another yatasāalūna
will not ask one another
٦٦ (66)
(66)
But the information will be unapparent to them that Day, so they will not [be able to] ask one another.
٢٨:٦٧
فَأَمَّا But as for fa-ammā
But as for
مَن (him) who man
(him) who
تَابَ repented tāba
repented
وَءَامَنَ and believed waāmana
and believed
وَعَمِلَ and did waʿamila
and did
صَـٰلِحًۭا righteousness ṣāliḥan
righteousness
فَعَسَىٰٓ then perhaps faʿasā
then perhaps
أَن [that] an
[that]
يَكُونَ he will be yakūna
he will be
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْمُفْلِحِينَ the successful ones l-muf'liḥīna
the successful ones
٦٧ (67)
(67)
But as for one who had repented, believed, and done righteousness, it is expected [i.e., promised by Allāh] that he will be among the successful.
٢٨:٦٨
وَرَبُّكَ And your Lord warabbuka
And your Lord
يَخْلُقُ creates yakhluqu
creates
مَا what
what
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
وَيَخْتَارُ ۗ and chooses wayakhtāru
and chooses
مَا Not
Not
كَانَ they have kāna
they have
لَهُمُ for them lahumu
for them
ٱلْخِيَرَةُ ۚ the choice l-khiyaratu
the choice
سُبْحَـٰنَ Glory be sub'ḥāna
Glory be
ٱللَّهِ (to) Allah l-lahi
(to) Allah
وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ and High is He wataʿālā
and High is He
عَمَّا above what ʿammā
above what
يُشْرِكُونَ they associate (with Him) yush'rikūna
they associate (with Him)
٦٨ (68)
(68)
And your Lord creates what He wills and chooses; not for them was the choice. Exalted is Allāh and high above what they associate with Him.
٢٨:٦٩
وَرَبُّكَ And your Lord warabbuka
And your Lord
يَعْلَمُ knows yaʿlamu
knows
مَا what
what
تُكِنُّ conceals tukinnu
conceals
صُدُورُهُمْ their breasts ṣudūruhum
their breasts
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
يُعْلِنُونَ they declare yuʿ'linūna
they declare
٦٩ (69)
(69)
And your Lord knows what their breasts conceal and what they declare.
٢٨:٧٠
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
ٱللَّهُ (is) Allah l-lahu
(is) Allah
لَآ (there is) no
(there is) no
إِلَـٰهَ god ilāha
god
إِلَّا but illā
but
هُوَ ۖ He huwa
He
لَهُ To Him lahu
To Him
ٱلْحَمْدُ (are due) all praises l-ḥamdu
(are due) all praises
فِى in
in
ٱلْأُولَىٰ the first l-ūlā
the first
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۖ and the last wal-ākhirati
and the last
وَلَهُ And for Him walahu
And for Him
ٱلْحُكْمُ (is) the Decision l-ḥuk'mu
(is) the Decision
وَإِلَيْهِ and to Him wa-ilayhi
and to Him
تُرْجَعُونَ you will be returned tur'jaʿūna
you will be returned
٧٠ (70)
(70)
And He is Allāh; there is no deity except Him. To Him is [due all] praise in the first [life] and the Hereafter. And His is the [final] decision, and to Him you will be returned.
٢٨:٧١
قُلْ Say qul
Say
أَرَءَيْتُمْ Have you seen ara-aytum
Have you seen
إِن if in
if
جَعَلَ Allah made jaʿala
Allah made
ٱللَّهُ Allah made l-lahu
Allah made
عَلَيْكُمُ for you ʿalaykumu
for you
ٱلَّيْلَ the night al-layla
the night
سَرْمَدًا continuous sarmadan
continuous
إِلَىٰ till ilā
till
يَوْمِ (the) Day yawmi
(the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
مَنْ who man
who
إِلَـٰهٌ (is the) god ilāhun
(is the) god
غَيْرُ besides ghayru
besides
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
يَأْتِيكُم who could bring you yatīkum
who could bring you
بِضِيَآءٍ ۖ light biḍiyāin
light
أَفَلَا Then will not afalā
Then will not
تَسْمَعُونَ you hear tasmaʿūna
you hear
٧١ (71)
(71)
Say, "Have you considered: if Allāh should make for you the night continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allāh could bring you light? Then will you not hear?"
٢٨:٧٢
قُلْ Say qul
Say
أَرَءَيْتُمْ Have you seen ara-aytum

يَوْمِ (the) Day yawmi
(the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
مَنْ who man
who
إِلَـٰهٌ (is the) god ilāhun
(is the) god
غَيْرُ besides ghayru
besides
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
يَأْتِيكُم who could bring you yatīkum
who could bring you
بِلَيْلٍۢ night bilaylin
night
تَسْكُنُونَ (for) you (to) rest taskunūna
(for) you (to) rest
فِيهِ ۖ in it fīhi
in it
أَفَلَا Then will not afalā
Then will not
تُبْصِرُونَ you see tub'ṣirūna
you see
٧٢ (72)
(72)
Say, "Have you considered: if Allāh should make for you the day continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allāh could bring you a night in which you may rest? Then will you not see?"
٢٨:٧٣
وَمِن And from wamin
And from
رَّحْمَتِهِۦ His Mercy raḥmatihi
His Mercy
جَعَلَ He made jaʿala
He made
لَكُمُ for you lakumu
for you
ٱلَّيْلَ the night al-layla
the night
وَٱلنَّهَارَ and the day wal-nahāra
and the day
لِتَسْكُنُوا۟ that you may rest litaskunū
that you may rest
فِيهِ therein fīhi
therein
وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟ and that you may seek walitabtaghū
and that you may seek
مِن from min
from
فَضْلِهِۦ His Bounty faḍlihi
His Bounty
وَلَعَلَّكُمْ and so that you may walaʿallakum
and so that you may
تَشْكُرُونَ be grateful tashkurūna
be grateful
٧٣ (73)
(73)
And out of His mercy He made for you the night and the day that you may rest therein and [by day] seek from His bounty and [that] perhaps you will be grateful.
٢٨:٧٤
وَيَوْمَ And (the) Day wayawma
And (the) Day
يُنَادِيهِمْ He will call them yunādīhim
He will call them
فَيَقُولُ and say fayaqūlu
and say
أَيْنَ Where ayna
Where
شُرَكَآءِىَ (are) My partners shurakāiya
(are) My partners
ٱلَّذِينَ whom alladhīna
whom
كُنتُمْ you used (to) kuntum
you used (to)
تَزْعُمُونَ claim tazʿumūna
claim
٧٤ (74)
(74)
And [warn of] the Day He will call them and say, "Where are My 'partners' which you used to claim?"
٢٨:٧٥
وَنَزَعْنَا And We will draw forth wanazaʿnā
And We will draw forth
مِن from min
from
كُلِّ every kulli
every
أُمَّةٍۢ nation ummatin
nation
شَهِيدًۭا a witness shahīdan
a witness
فَقُلْنَا and We will say faqul'nā
and We will say
هَاتُوا۟ Bring hātū
Bring
بُرْهَـٰنَكُمْ your proof bur'hānakum
your proof
فَعَلِمُوٓا۟ Then they will know faʿalimū
Then they will know
أَنَّ that anna
that
ٱلْحَقَّ the truth l-ḥaqa
the truth
لِلَّهِ (is) for Allah lillahi
(is) for Allah
وَضَلَّ and (will be) lost waḍalla
and (will be) lost
عَنْهُم from them ʿanhum
from them
مَّا what
what
كَانُوا۟ they used (to) kānū
they used (to)
يَفْتَرُونَ invent yaftarūna
invent
٧٥ (75)
(75)
And We will extract from every nation a witness and say, "Produce your proof," and they will know that the truth belongs to Allāh, and lost from them is that which they used to invent.
٢٨:٧٦
۞ إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
قَـٰرُونَ Qarun qārūna
Qarun
كَانَ was kāna
was
مِن from min
from
قَوْمِ (the) people qawmi
(the) people
مُوسَىٰ (of) Musa mūsā
(of) Musa
فَبَغَىٰ but he oppressed fabaghā
but he oppressed
عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ [on] them ʿalayhim
[on] them
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ And We gave him waātaynāhu
And We gave him
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْكُنُوزِ the treasures l-kunūzi
the treasures
مَآ which
which
إِنَّ indeed inna
indeed
مَفَاتِحَهُۥ (the) keys of it mafātiḥahu
(the) keys of it
لَتَنُوٓأُ would burden latanūu
would burden
بِٱلْعُصْبَةِ a company (of men) bil-ʿuṣ'bati
a company (of men)
أُو۟لِى possessors of great strength ulī
possessors of great strength
ٱلْقُوَّةِ possessors of great strength l-quwati
possessors of great strength
إِذْ When idh
When
قَالَ said qāla
said
لَهُۥ to him lahu
to him
قَوْمُهُۥ his people qawmuhu
his people
لَا (Do) not
(Do) not
تَفْرَحْ ۖ exult tafraḥ
exult
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
لَا (does) not
(does) not
يُحِبُّ love yuḥibbu
love
ٱلْفَرِحِينَ the exultant l-fariḥīna
the exultant
٧٦ (76)
(76)
Indeed, Qārūn was from the people of Moses, but he tyrannized them. And We gave him of treasures whose keys would burden a band of strong men; thereupon his people said to him, "Do not exult. Indeed, Allāh does not like the exultant.
٢٨:٧٧
وَٱبْتَغِ But seek wa-ib'taghi
But seek
فِيمَآ through what fīmā
through what
ءَاتَىٰكَ Allah has given you ātāka
Allah has given you
ٱللَّهُ Allah has given you l-lahu
Allah has given you
ٱلدَّارَ the home l-dāra
the home
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۖ (of) the Hereafter l-ākhirata
(of) the Hereafter
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تَنسَ forget tansa
forget
نَصِيبَكَ your share naṣībaka
your share
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ the world l-dun'yā
the world
وَأَحْسِن And do good wa-aḥsin
And do good
كَمَآ as kamā
as
أَحْسَنَ Allah has been good aḥsana
Allah has been good
ٱللَّهُ Allah has been good l-lahu
Allah has been good
إِلَيْكَ ۖ to you ilayka
to you
وَلَا And (do) not walā
And (do) not
تَبْغِ seek tabghi
seek
ٱلْفَسَادَ corruption l-fasāda
corruption
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
لَا (does) not
(does) not
يُحِبُّ love yuḥibbu
love
ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ the corrupters l-muf'sidīna
the corrupters
٧٧ (77)
(77)
But seek, through that which Allāh has given you, the home of the Hereafter; and [yet], do not forget your share of the world. And do good as Allāh has done good to you. And desire not corruption in the land. Indeed, Allāh does not like corrupters."
٢٨:٧٨
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
إِنَّمَآ Only innamā
Only
أُوتِيتُهُۥ I have been given it ūtītuhu
I have been given it
عَلَىٰ on (account) ʿalā
on (account)
عِلْمٍ (of) knowledge ʿil'min
(of) knowledge
عِندِىٓ ۚ I have ʿindī
I have
أَوَلَمْ Did not awalam
Did not
يَعْلَمْ he know yaʿlam
he know
أَنَّ that anna
that
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
قَدْ indeed qad
indeed
أَهْلَكَ destroyed ahlaka
destroyed
مِن before him min
before him
قَبْلِهِۦ before him qablihi
before him
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْقُرُونِ the generations l-qurūni
the generations
مَنْ who man
who
هُوَ [they] huwa
[they]
أَشَدُّ (were) stronger ashaddu
(were) stronger
مِنْهُ than him min'hu
than him
قُوَّةًۭ (in) strength quwwatan
(in) strength
وَأَكْثَرُ and greater wa-aktharu
and greater
جَمْعًۭا ۚ (in) accumulation jamʿan
(in) accumulation
وَلَا And not walā
And not
يُسْـَٔلُ will be questioned yus'alu
will be questioned
عَن about ʿan
about
ذُنُوبِهِمُ their sins dhunūbihimu
their sins
ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ the criminals l-muj'rimūna
the criminals
٧٨ (78)
(78)
He said, "I was only given it because of knowledge I have." Did he not know that Allāh had destroyed before him of generations those who were greater than him in power and greater in accumulation [of wealth]? But the criminals, about their sins, will not be asked.
٢٨:٧٩
فَخَرَجَ So he went forth fakharaja
So he went forth
عَلَىٰ to ʿalā
to
قَوْمِهِۦ his people qawmihi
his people
فِى in
in
زِينَتِهِۦ ۖ his adornment zīnatihi
his adornment
قَالَ Said qāla
Said
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
يُرِيدُونَ desire yurīdūna
desire
ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ the life l-ḥayata
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
يَـٰلَيْتَ O! Would that yālayta
O! Would that
لَنَا for us lanā
for us
مِثْلَ (the) like mith'la
(the) like
مَآ (of) what
(of) what
أُوتِىَ has been given ūtiya
has been given
قَـٰرُونُ (to) Qarun qārūnu
(to) Qarun
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he innahu
Indeed, he
لَذُو (is the) owner ladhū
(is the) owner
حَظٍّ (of) fortune ḥaẓẓin
(of) fortune
عَظِيمٍۢ great ʿaẓīmin
great
٧٩ (79)
(79)
So he came out before his people in his adornment. Those who desired the worldly life said, "Oh, would that we had like what was given to Qārūn. Indeed, he is one of great fortune."
٢٨:٨٠
وَقَالَ But said waqāla
But said
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
أُوتُوا۟ were given ūtū
were given
ٱلْعِلْمَ the knowledge l-ʿil'ma
the knowledge
وَيْلَكُمْ Woe to you waylakum
Woe to you
ثَوَابُ (The) reward thawābu
(The) reward
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
خَيْرٌۭ (is) better khayrun
(is) better
لِّمَنْ for (he) who liman
for (he) who
ءَامَنَ believes āmana
believes
وَعَمِلَ and does waʿamila
and does
صَـٰلِحًۭا righteous (deeds) ṣāliḥan
righteous (deeds)
وَلَا And not walā
And not
يُلَقَّىٰهَآ it is granted yulaqqāhā
it is granted
إِلَّا except illā
except
ٱلصَّـٰبِرُونَ (to) the patient ones l-ṣābirūna
(to) the patient ones
٨٠ (80)
(80)
But those who had been given knowledge said, "Woe to you! The reward of Allāh is better for he who believes and does righteousness. And none are granted it except the patient."
٢٨:٨١
فَخَسَفْنَا Then We caused to swallow up fakhasafnā
Then We caused to swallow up
بِهِۦ him bihi
him
وَبِدَارِهِ and his home wabidārihi
and his home
ٱلْأَرْضَ the earth l-arḍa
the earth
فَمَا Then not famā
Then not
كَانَ was kāna
was
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
مِن any min
any
فِئَةٍۢ group fi-atin
group
يَنصُرُونَهُۥ (to) help him yanṣurūnahu
(to) help him
مِن besides min
besides
دُونِ besides dūni
besides
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
كَانَ was kāna
was
مِنَ (he) of mina
(he) of
ٱلْمُنتَصِرِينَ those who (could) defend themselves l-muntaṣirīna
those who (could) defend themselves
٨١ (81)
(81)
And We caused the earth to swallow him and his home. And there was for him no company to aid him other than Allāh, nor was he of those who [could] defend themselves.
٢٨:٨٢
وَأَصْبَحَ And began wa-aṣbaḥa
And began
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
تَمَنَّوْا۟ (had) wished tamannaw
(had) wished
مَكَانَهُۥ his position makānahu
his position
بِٱلْأَمْسِ the day before bil-amsi
the day before
يَقُولُونَ (to) say yaqūlūna
(to) say
وَيْكَأَنَّ Ah! That wayka-anna
Ah! That
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
يَبْسُطُ extends yabsuṭu
extends
ٱلرِّزْقَ the provision l-riz'qa
the provision
لِمَن for whom liman
for whom
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
مِنْ of min
of
عِبَادِهِۦ His slaves ʿibādihi
His slaves
وَيَقْدِرُ ۖ and restricts it wayaqdiru
and restricts it
لَوْلَآ If not lawlā
If not
أَن that an
that
مَّنَّ Allah had favored manna
Allah had favored
ٱللَّهُ Allah had favored l-lahu
Allah had favored
عَلَيْنَا [to] us ʿalaynā
[to] us
لَخَسَفَ He would have caused it to swallow us lakhasafa
He would have caused it to swallow us
بِنَا ۖ He would have caused it to swallow us binā
He would have caused it to swallow us
وَيْكَأَنَّهُۥ Ah! That wayka-annahu
Ah! That
لَا not
not
يُفْلِحُ will succeed yuf'liḥu
will succeed
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ the disbelievers l-kāfirūna
the disbelievers
٨٢ (82)
(82)
And those who had wished for his position the previous day began to say, "Oh, how Allāh extends provision to whom He wills of His servants and restricts it! If not that Allāh had conferred favor on us, He would have caused it to swallow us. Oh, how the disbelievers do not succeed!"
٢٨:٨٣
تِلْكَ That til'ka
That
ٱلدَّارُ the Home l-dāru
the Home
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ (of) the Hereafter l-ākhiratu
(of) the Hereafter
نَجْعَلُهَا We assign it najʿaluhā
We assign it
لِلَّذِينَ to those who lilladhīna
to those who
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يُرِيدُونَ desire yurīdūna
desire
عُلُوًّۭا exaltedness ʿuluwwan
exaltedness
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
وَلَا and not walā
and not
فَسَادًۭا ۚ corruption fasādan
corruption
وَٱلْعَـٰقِبَةُ And the good end wal-ʿāqibatu
And the good end
لِلْمُتَّقِينَ (is) for the righteous lil'muttaqīna
(is) for the righteous
٨٣ (83)
(83)
That home of the Hereafter We assign to those who do not desire exaltedness upon the earth or corruption. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous.
٢٨:٨٤
مَن Whoever man
Whoever
جَآءَ comes jāa
comes
بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ with a good (deed) bil-ḥasanati
with a good (deed)
فَلَهُۥ then for him falahu
then for him
خَيْرٌۭ (will be) better khayrun
(will be) better
مِّنْهَا ۖ than it min'hā
than it
وَمَن and whoever waman
and whoever
جَآءَ comes jāa
comes
بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ with an evil (deed) bil-sayi-ati
with an evil (deed)
فَلَا then not falā
then not
يُجْزَى will be recompensed yuj'zā
will be recompensed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
عَمِلُوا۟ do ʿamilū
do
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ the evil (deeds) l-sayiāti
the evil (deeds)
إِلَّا except illā
except
مَا what
what
كَانُوا۟ they used (to) kānū
they used (to)
يَعْمَلُونَ do yaʿmalūna
do
٨٤ (84)
(84)
Whoever comes [on the Day of Judgement] with a good deed will have better than it; and whoever comes with an evil deed - then those who did evil deeds will not be recompensed except [as much as] what they used to do.
٢٨:٨٥
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِى He Who alladhī
He Who
فَرَضَ ordained faraḍa
ordained
عَلَيْكَ upon you ʿalayka
upon you
ٱلْقُرْءَانَ the Quran l-qur'āna
the Quran
لَرَآدُّكَ (will) surely take you back larādduka
(will) surely take you back
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
مَعَادٍۢ ۚ a place of return maʿādin
a place of return
قُل Say qul
Say
رَّبِّىٓ My Lord rabbī
My Lord
أَعْلَمُ (is) most knowing aʿlamu
(is) most knowing
مَن (of him) who man
(of him) who
جَآءَ comes jāa
comes
بِٱلْهُدَىٰ with the guidance bil-hudā
with the guidance
وَمَنْ and who waman
and who
هُوَ he huwa
he
فِى (is) in
(is) in
ضَلَـٰلٍۢ an error ḍalālin
an error
مُّبِينٍۢ manifest mubīnin
manifest
٨٥ (85)
(85)
Indeed, [O Muḥammad], He who imposed upon you the Qur’ān will take you back to a place of return. Say, "My Lord is most knowing of who brings guidance and who is in clear error."
٢٨:٨٦
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
كُنتَ you were kunta
you were
تَرْجُوٓا۟ expecting tarjū
expecting
أَن that an
that
يُلْقَىٰٓ would be sent down yul'qā
would be sent down
إِلَيْكَ to you ilayka
to you
ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ the Book l-kitābu
the Book
إِلَّا except illā
except
رَحْمَةًۭ (as) a mercy raḥmatan
(as) a mercy
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّكَ ۖ your Lord rabbika
your Lord
فَلَا So (do) not falā
So (do) not
تَكُونَنَّ be takūnanna
be
ظَهِيرًۭا an assistant ẓahīran
an assistant
لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ to the disbelievers lil'kāfirīna
to the disbelievers
٨٦ (86)
(86)
And you were not expecting that the Book would be conveyed to you, but [it is] a mercy from your Lord. So do not be an assistant to the disbelievers.
٢٨:٨٧
وَلَا And (let) not walā
And (let) not
يَصُدُّنَّكَ avert you yaṣuddunnaka
avert you
عَنْ from ʿan
from
ءَايَـٰتِ (the) Verses āyāti
(the) Verses
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
بَعْدَ after baʿda
after
إِذْ [when] idh
[when]
أُنزِلَتْ they have been revealed unzilat
they have been revealed
إِلَيْكَ ۖ to you ilayka
to you
وَٱدْعُ And invite (people) wa-ud'ʿu
And invite (people)
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
رَبِّكَ ۖ your Lord rabbika
your Lord
وَلَا And (do) not walā
And (do) not
تَكُونَنَّ be takūnanna
be
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ the polytheists l-mush'rikīna
the polytheists
٨٧ (87)
(87)
And never let them avert you from the verses of Allāh after they have been revealed to you. And invite [people] to your Lord. And never be of those who associate others with Allāh.
٢٨:٨٨
وَلَا And (do) not walā
And (do) not
تَدْعُ invoke tadʿu
invoke
مَعَ with maʿa
with
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
إِلَـٰهًا god ilāhan
god
ءَاخَرَ ۘ other ākhara
other
لَآ (There is) no
(There is) no
إِلَـٰهَ god ilāha
god
إِلَّا except illā
except
هُوَ ۚ Him huwa
Him
كُلُّ Every kullu
Every
شَىْءٍ thing shayin
thing
هَالِكٌ (will be) destroyed hālikun
(will be) destroyed
إِلَّا except illā
except
وَجْهَهُۥ ۚ His Face wajhahu
His Face
لَهُ To Him lahu
To Him
ٱلْحُكْمُ (is) the Decision l-ḥuk'mu
(is) the Decision
وَإِلَيْهِ and to Him wa-ilayhi
and to Him
تُرْجَعُونَ you will be returned tur'jaʿūna
you will be returned
٨٨ (88)
(88)
And do not invoke with Allāh another deity. There is no deity except Him. Everything will be destroyed except His Face. His is the judgement, and to Him you will be returned.
