بسملة

بِسْمِ In (the) name ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

٢٦:١

طسٓمٓ Ta Seem Meem ١ (1)

Ṭā, Seen, Meem.

٢٦:٢

تِلْكَ These ءَايَـٰتُ (are the) Verses ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book ٱلْمُبِينِ clear ٢ (2)

These are the verses of the clear Book.

٢٦:٣

لَعَلَّكَ Perhaps you بَـٰخِعٌۭ (would) kill نَّفْسَكَ yourself أَلَّا that not يَكُونُوا۟ they become مُؤْمِنِينَ believers ٣ (3)

Perhaps, [O Muḥammad], you would kill yourself with grief that they will not be believers.

٢٦:٤

إِن If نَّشَأْ We will نُنَزِّلْ We can send down عَلَيْهِم to them مِّنَ from ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky ءَايَةًۭ a Sign فَظَلَّتْ so would bend أَعْنَـٰقُهُمْ their necks لَهَا to it خَـٰضِعِينَ (in) humility ٤ (4)

If We willed, We could send down to them from the sky a sign for which their necks would remain humbled.

٢٦:٥

وَمَا And (does) not يَأْتِيهِم come to them مِّن any ذِكْرٍۢ reminder مِّنَ from ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious مُحْدَثٍ new إِلَّا but كَانُوا۟ they عَنْهُ from it مُعْرِضِينَ turn away ٥ (5)

And no mention [i.e., revelation] comes to them anew from the Most Merciful except that they turn away from it.

٢٦:٦

فَقَدْ So verily كَذَّبُوا۟ they have denied فَسَيَأْتِيهِمْ then will come to them أَنۢبَـٰٓؤُا۟ the news مَا (of) what كَانُوا۟ they used بِهِۦ at it يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ (to) mock ٦ (6)

For they have already denied, but there will come to them the news of that which they used to ridicule.

٢٦:٧

أَوَلَمْ Do not يَرَوْا۟ they see إِلَى at ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth كَمْ how many أَنۢبَتْنَا We produced فِيهَا in it مِن of كُلِّ every زَوْجٍۢ kind كَرِيمٍ noble ٧ (7)

Did they not look at the earth - how much We have produced therein from every noble kind?

٢٦:٨

إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ ۖ surely (is) a sign وَمَا but not كَانَ are أَكْثَرُهُم most of them مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers ٨ (8)

Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.

٢٦:٩

وَإِنَّ And indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَهُوَ surely, He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ٩ (9)

And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

٢٦:١٠

وَإِذْ And when نَادَىٰ your Lord called رَبُّكَ your Lord called مُوسَىٰٓ Musa أَنِ [that] ٱئْتِ Go ٱلْقَوْمَ (to) the people ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ (who are) wrongdoers ١٠ (10)

And [mention] when your Lord called Moses, [saying], "Go to the wrongdoing people -

٢٦:١١

قَوْمَ (The) people فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ (of) Firaun أَلَا Will not يَتَّقُونَ they fear ١١ (11)

The people of Pharaoh. Will they not fear Allāh?"

٢٦:١٢

قَالَ He said رَبِّ My Lord إِنِّىٓ Indeed, I أَخَافُ [I] fear أَن that يُكَذِّبُونِ they will deny me ١٢ (12)

He said, "My Lord, indeed I fear that they will deny me

٢٦:١٣

وَيَضِيقُ And straitens صَدْرِى my breast وَلَا and not يَنطَلِقُ expresses well لِسَانِى my tongue فَأَرْسِلْ so send إِلَىٰ for هَـٰرُونَ Harun ١٣ (13)

And that my breast will tighten and my tongue will not be fluent, so send for Aaron.

٢٦:١٤

وَلَهُمْ And they have عَلَىَّ against me ذَنۢبٌۭ a crime فَأَخَافُ so I fear أَن that يَقْتُلُونِ they will kill me ١٤ (14)

And they have upon me a [claim due to] sin, so I fear that they will kill me."

٢٦:١٥

قَالَ He said كَلَّا ۖ Nay فَٱذْهَبَا go both of you بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ ۖ with Our Signs إِنَّا Indeed, We مَعَكُم (are) with you مُّسْتَمِعُونَ listening ١٥ (15)

[Allāh] said, "No. Go both of you with Our signs; indeed, We are with you, listening.

٢٦:١٦

فَأْتِيَا So go both of you فِرْعَوْنَ (to) Firaun فَقُولَآ and say إِنَّا 'Indeed, we رَسُولُ (are the) Messenger رَبِّ (of the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ١٦ (16)

Go to Pharaoh and say, 'We are the messengers of the Lord of the worlds,

٢٦:١٧

أَنْ [That] أَرْسِلْ send مَعَنَا with us بَنِىٓ (the) Children of Israel.' إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ (the) Children of Israel.' ١٧ (17)

[Commanded to say], "Send with us the Children of Israel."'"

٢٦:١٨

قَالَ He said أَلَمْ Did not نُرَبِّكَ we bring you up فِينَا among us وَلِيدًۭا (as) a child وَلَبِثْتَ and you remained فِينَا among us مِنْ of عُمُرِكَ your life سِنِينَ years ١٨ (18)

[Pharaoh] said, "Did we not raise you among us as a child, and you remained among us for years of your life?

٢٦:١٩

وَفَعَلْتَ And you did فَعْلَتَكَ your deed ٱلَّتِى which فَعَلْتَ you did وَأَنتَ and you مِنَ (were) of ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ the ungrateful ١٩ (19)

And [then] you did your deed which you did, and you were of the ungrateful."

٢٦:٢٠

قَالَ He said فَعَلْتُهَآ I did it إِذًۭا when وَأَنَا۠ I مِنَ (was) of ٱلضَّآلِّينَ those who are astray ٢٠ (20)

[Moses] said, "I did it, then, while I was of those astray [i.e., ignorant].

٢٦:٢١

فَفَرَرْتُ So I fled مِنكُمْ from you لَمَّا when خِفْتُكُمْ I feared you فَوَهَبَ But granted لِى to me رَبِّى my Lord حُكْمًۭا judgment وَجَعَلَنِى and made me مِنَ of ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers ٢١ (21)

So I fled from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me judgement [i.e., wisdom and prophet hood] and appointed me [as one] of the messengers.

٢٦:٢٢

وَتِلْكَ And this نِعْمَةٌۭ (is the) favor تَمُنُّهَا with which you reproach عَلَىَّ [on] me أَنْ that عَبَّدتَّ you have enslaved بَنِىٓ (the) Children of Israel إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ (the) Children of Israel ٢٢ (22)

And is this a favor of which you remind me - that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?"

٢٦:٢٣

قَالَ Firaun said فِرْعَوْنُ Firaun said وَمَا And what رَبُّ (is the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ٢٣ (23)

Said Pharaoh, "And what is the Lord of the worlds?"

٢٦:٢٤

قَالَ He said رَبُّ Lord ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth وَمَا and whatever بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ (is) between them إِن if كُنتُم you (should) be مُّوقِنِينَ convinced ٢٤ (24)

[Moses] said, "The Lord of the heavens and earth and that between them, if you should be convinced."

٢٦:٢٥

قَالَ He said لِمَنْ to those حَوْلَهُۥٓ around him أَلَا Do not تَسْتَمِعُونَ you hear ٢٥ (25)

[Pharaoh] said to those around him, "Do you not hear?"

٢٦:٢٦

قَالَ He said رَبُّكُمْ Your Lord وَرَبُّ and (the) Lord ءَابَآئِكُمُ (of) your forefathers ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (of) your forefathers ٢٦ (26)

[Moses] said, "Your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers."

٢٦:٢٧

قَالَ He said إِنَّ Indeed رَسُولَكُمُ your Messenger ٱلَّذِىٓ who أُرْسِلَ has been sent إِلَيْكُمْ to you لَمَجْنُونٌۭ (is) surely mad ٢٧ (27)

[Pharaoh] said, "Indeed, your 'messenger' who has been sent to you is mad."

٢٦:٢٨

قَالَ He said رَبُّ Lord ٱلْمَشْرِقِ (of) the east وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ and the west وَمَا and whatever بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ (is) between them إِن if كُنتُمْ you were تَعْقِلُونَ (to) reason ٢٨ (28)

[Moses] said, "Lord of the east and the west and that between them, if you were to reason."

٢٦:٢٩

قَالَ He said لَئِنِ If ٱتَّخَذْتَ you take إِلَـٰهًا a god غَيْرِى other than me لَأَجْعَلَنَّكَ I will surely make you مِنَ among ٱلْمَسْجُونِينَ those imprisoned ٢٩ (29)

[Pharaoh] said, "If you take a god other than me, I will surely place you among those imprisoned."

٢٦:٣٠

قَالَ He said أَوَلَوْ Even if جِئْتُكَ I bring you بِشَىْءٍۢ something مُّبِينٍۢ manifest ٣٠ (30)

[Moses] said, "Even if I brought you something [i.e., proof] manifest?"

٢٦:٣١

قَالَ He said فَأْتِ Then bring بِهِۦٓ it إِن if كُنتَ you are مِنَ of ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ the truthful ٣١ (31)

[Pharaoh] said, "Then bring it, if you should be of the truthful."

٢٦:٣٢

فَأَلْقَىٰ So he threw عَصَاهُ his staff فَإِذَا and behold هِىَ It ثُعْبَانٌۭ (was) a serpent مُّبِينٌۭ manifest ٣٢ (32)

So [Moses] threw his staff, and suddenly it was a serpent manifest.

٢٦:٣٣

وَنَزَعَ And he drew out يَدَهُۥ his hand فَإِذَا and behold هِىَ It بَيْضَآءُ (was) white لِلنَّـٰظِرِينَ for the observers ٣٣ (33)

And he drew out his hand; thereupon it was white for the observers.

٢٦:٣٤

قَالَ He said لِلْمَلَإِ to the chiefs حَوْلَهُۥٓ around him إِنَّ Indeed هَـٰذَا this لَسَـٰحِرٌ (is) surely a magician عَلِيمٌۭ learned ٣٤ (34)

[Pharaoh] said to the eminent ones around him, "Indeed, this is a learned magician.

٢٦:٣٥

يُرِيدُ He wants أَن to يُخْرِجَكُم drive you out مِّنْ from أَرْضِكُم your land بِسِحْرِهِۦ by his magic فَمَاذَا so what تَأْمُرُونَ (do) you advise ٣٥ (35)

He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic, so what do you advise?"

٢٦:٣٦

قَالُوٓا۟ They said أَرْجِهْ Postpone him وَأَخَاهُ and his brother وَٱبْعَثْ and send فِى in ٱلْمَدَآئِنِ the cities حَـٰشِرِينَ gatherers ٣٦ (36)

They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers

٢٦:٣٧

يَأْتُوكَ They (will) bring to you بِكُلِّ every سَحَّارٍ magician عَلِيمٍۢ learned ٣٧ (37)

Who will bring you every learned, skilled magician."

٢٦:٣٨

فَجُمِعَ So were assembled ٱلسَّحَرَةُ the magicians لِمِيقَـٰتِ for (the) appointment يَوْمٍۢ (on) a day مَّعْلُومٍۢ well-known ٣٨ (38)

So the magicians were assembled for the appointment of a well-known day.

٢٦:٣٩

وَقِيلَ And it was said لِلنَّاسِ to the people هَلْ Will أَنتُم you مُّجْتَمِعُونَ assemble ٣٩ (39)

And it was said to the people, "Will you congregate.

٢٦:٤٠

لَعَلَّنَا That we may نَتَّبِعُ follow ٱلسَّحَرَةَ the magicians إِن if كَانُوا۟ they are هُمُ they are ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ the victorious ٤٠ (40)

That we might follow the magicians if they are the predominant?"

٢٦:٤١

فَلَمَّا So when جَآءَ came ٱلسَّحَرَةُ the magicians قَالُوا۟ they said لِفِرْعَوْنَ to Firaun أَئِنَّ Is there لَنَا for us لَأَجْرًا a reward إِن if كُنَّا we are نَحْنُ we are ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ the victorious ٤١ (41)

And when the magicians arrived, they said to Pharaoh, "Is there indeed for us a reward if we are the predominant?"

٢٦:٤٢

قَالَ He said نَعَمْ Yes وَإِنَّكُمْ and indeed you إِذًۭا then لَّمِنَ surely (will be) of ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ the ones who are brought near ٤٢ (42)

He said, "Yes, and indeed, you will then be of those near [to me]."

٢٦:٤٣

قَالَ Said لَهُم to them مُّوسَىٰٓ Musa أَلْقُوا۟ Throw مَآ what أَنتُم you مُّلْقُونَ (are) going to throw ٤٣ (43)

Moses said to them, "Throw whatever you will throw."

٢٦:٤٤

فَأَلْقَوْا۟ So they threw حِبَالَهُمْ their ropes وَعِصِيَّهُمْ and their staffs وَقَالُوا۟ and said بِعِزَّةِ By the might فِرْعَوْنَ (of) Firaun إِنَّا indeed, we لَنَحْنُ surely, we ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ (are) the victorious ٤٤ (44)

So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said, "By the might of Pharaoh, indeed it is we who are predominant."

٢٦:٤٥

فَأَلْقَىٰ Then threw مُوسَىٰ Musa عَصَاهُ his staff فَإِذَا and behold هِىَ It تَلْقَفُ swallowed مَا what يَأْفِكُونَ they falsified ٤٥ (45)

Then Moses threw his staff, and at once it devoured what they falsified.

٢٦:٤٦

فَأُلْقِىَ Then fell down ٱلسَّحَرَةُ the magicians سَـٰجِدِينَ prostrate ٤٦ (46)

So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allāh].

٢٦:٤٧

قَالُوٓا۟ They said ءَامَنَّا We believe بِرَبِّ in (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ٤٧ (47)

They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds,

٢٦:٤٨

رَبِّ Lord مُوسَىٰ (of) Musa وَهَـٰرُونَ and Harun ٤٨ (48)

The Lord of Moses and Aaron."

٢٦:٤٩

قَالَ He said ءَامَنتُمْ You believed لَهُۥ in him قَبْلَ before أَنْ [that] ءَاذَنَ I gave permission لَكُمْ ۖ to you إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he لَكَبِيرُكُمُ (is) surely your chief ٱلَّذِى who عَلَّمَكُمُ has taught you ٱلسِّحْرَ the magic فَلَسَوْفَ so surely soon تَعْلَمُونَ ۚ you will know لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ I will surely cut off أَيْدِيَكُمْ your hands وَأَرْجُلَكُم and your feet مِّنْ of خِلَـٰفٍۢ opposite sides وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ and I will surely crucify you أَجْمَعِينَ all ٤٩ (49)

[Pharaoh] said, "You believed him [i.e., Moses] before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic, but you are going to know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all."

٢٦:٥٠

قَالُوا۟ They said لَا No ضَيْرَ ۖ harm إِنَّآ Indeed, we إِلَىٰ to رَبِّنَا our Lord مُنقَلِبُونَ (will) return ٥٠ (50)

They said, "No harm. Indeed, to our Lord we will return.

٢٦:٥١

إِنَّا Indeed, we نَطْمَعُ hope أَن that يَغْفِرَ will forgive لَنَا us رَبُّنَا our Lord خَطَـٰيَـٰنَآ our sins أَن because كُنَّآ we are أَوَّلَ (the) first ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ (of) the believers ٥١ (51)

Indeed, we aspire that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we were the first of the believers."

٢٦:٥٢

۞ وَأَوْحَيْنَآ And We inspired إِلَىٰ to مُوسَىٰٓ Musa أَنْ [that] أَسْرِ Travel by night بِعِبَادِىٓ with My slaves إِنَّكُم indeed, you مُّتَّبَعُونَ (will be) followed ٥٢ (52)

And We inspired to Moses, "Travel by night with My servants; indeed, you will be pursued."

٢٦:٥٣

فَأَرْسَلَ Then sent فِرْعَوْنُ Firaun فِى in ٱلْمَدَآئِنِ the cities حَـٰشِرِينَ gatherers ٥٣ (53)

Then Pharaoh sent among the cities gatherers

٢٦:٥٤

إِنَّ Indeed هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ these لَشِرْذِمَةٌۭ (are) certainly a band قَلِيلُونَ small ٥٤ (54)

[And said], "Indeed, those are but a small band,

٢٦:٥٥

وَإِنَّهُمْ And indeed, they لَنَا [to] us لَغَآئِظُونَ (are) surely enraging ٥٥ (55)

And indeed, they are enraging us,

٢٦:٥٦

وَإِنَّا And indeed, we لَجَمِيعٌ (are) surely a multitude حَـٰذِرُونَ forewarned ٥٦ (56)

And indeed, we are a cautious society..."

٢٦:٥٧

فَأَخْرَجْنَـٰهُم So We expelled them مِّن from جَنَّـٰتٍۢ gardens وَعُيُونٍۢ and springs ٥٧ (57)

So We removed them from gardens and springs

٢٦:٥٨

وَكُنُوزٍۢ And treasures وَمَقَامٍۢ and a place كَرِيمٍۢ honorable ٥٨ (58)

And treasures and honorable station -

٢٦:٥٩

كَذَٰلِكَ Thus وَأَوْرَثْنَـٰهَا And We caused to inherit them بَنِىٓ (the) Children of Israel إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ (the) Children of Israel ٥٩ (59)

Thus. And We caused to inherit it the Children of Israel.

٢٦:٦٠

فَأَتْبَعُوهُم So they followed them مُّشْرِقِينَ (at) sunrise ٦٠ (60)

So they pursued them at sunrise.

٢٦:٦١

فَلَمَّا Then when تَرَٰٓءَا saw each other ٱلْجَمْعَانِ the two hosts قَالَ said أَصْحَـٰبُ (the) companions مُوسَىٰٓ (of) Musa إِنَّا Indeed, we لَمُدْرَكُونَ (are) surely to be overtaken ٦١ (61)

And when the two companies saw one another, the companions of Moses said, "Indeed, we are to be overtaken!"

٢٦:٦٢

قَالَ He said كَلَّآ ۖ Nay إِنَّ indeed مَعِىَ with me رَبِّى (is) my Lord سَيَهْدِينِ He will guide me ٦٢ (62)

[Moses] said, "No! Indeed, with me is my Lord; He will guide me."

٢٦:٦٣

فَأَوْحَيْنَآ Then We inspired إِلَىٰ to مُوسَىٰٓ Musa أَنِ [that] ٱضْرِب Strike بِّعَصَاكَ with your staff ٱلْبَحْرَ ۖ the sea فَٱنفَلَقَ So it parted فَكَانَ and became كُلُّ each فِرْقٍۢ part كَٱلطَّوْدِ like the mountain ٱلْعَظِيمِ [the] great ٦٣ (63)

Then We inspired to Moses, "Strike with your staff the sea," and it parted, and each portion was like a great towering mountain.

٢٦:٦٤

وَأَزْلَفْنَا And We brought near ثَمَّ there ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ the others ٦٤ (64)

And We advanced thereto the others [i.e., the pursuers].

٢٦:٦٥

وَأَنجَيْنَا And We saved مُوسَىٰ Musa وَمَن and who مَّعَهُۥٓ (were) with him أَجْمَعِينَ all ٦٥ (65)

And We saved Moses and those with him, all together.

٢٦:٦٦

ثُمَّ Then أَغْرَقْنَا We drowned ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ the others ٦٦ (66)

Then We drowned the others.

٢٦:٦٧

إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ ۖ surely (is) a Sign وَمَا but not كَانَ are أَكْثَرُهُم most of them مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers ٦٧ (67)

Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.

٢٦:٦٨

وَإِنَّ And indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَهُوَ surely He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ٦٨ (68)

And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

٢٦:٦٩

وَٱتْلُ And recite عَلَيْهِمْ to them نَبَأَ (the) news إِبْرَٰهِيمَ (of) Ibrahim ٦٩ (69)

And recite to them the news of Abraham,

٢٦:٧٠

إِذْ When قَالَ he said لِأَبِيهِ to his father وَقَوْمِهِۦ and his people مَا What تَعْبُدُونَ (do) you worship ٧٠ (70)

When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?"

٢٦:٧١

قَالُوا۟ They said نَعْبُدُ We worship أَصْنَامًۭا idols فَنَظَلُّ so we will remain لَهَا to them عَـٰكِفِينَ devoted ٧١ (71)

They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted."

٢٦:٧٢

قَالَ He said هَلْ Do يَسْمَعُونَكُمْ they hear you إِذْ when تَدْعُونَ you call ٧٢ (72)

He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate?

٢٦:٧٣

أَوْ Or يَنفَعُونَكُمْ (do) they benefit you أَوْ or يَضُرُّونَ they harm (you) ٧٣ (73)

Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?"

٢٦:٧٤

قَالُوا۟ They said بَلْ Nay وَجَدْنَآ but we found ءَابَآءَنَا our forefathers كَذَٰلِكَ like that يَفْعَلُونَ doing ٧٤ (74)

They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus."

٢٦:٧٥

قَالَ He said أَفَرَءَيْتُم Do you see مَّا what كُنتُمْ you have been تَعْبُدُونَ worshipping ٧٥ (75)

He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping,

٢٦:٧٦

أَنتُمْ You وَءَابَآؤُكُمُ and your forefathers ٱلْأَقْدَمُونَ and your forefathers ٧٦ (76)

You and your ancient forefathers?

٢٦:٧٧

فَإِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they عَدُوٌّۭ (are) enemies لِّىٓ to me إِلَّا except رَبَّ (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ٧٧ (77)

Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds,

٢٦:٧٨

ٱلَّذِى The One Who خَلَقَنِى created me فَهُوَ and He يَهْدِينِ guides me ٧٨ (78)

Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me.

٢٦:٧٩

وَٱلَّذِى And the One Who هُوَ [He] يُطْعِمُنِى gives me food وَيَسْقِينِ and gives me drink ٧٩ (79)

And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink.

٢٦:٨٠

وَإِذَا And when مَرِضْتُ I am ill فَهُوَ then He يَشْفِينِ cures me ٨٠ (80)

And when I am ill, it is He who cures me

٢٦:٨١

وَٱلَّذِى And the One Who يُمِيتُنِى will cause me to die ثُمَّ then يُحْيِينِ he will give me life ٨١ (81)

And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life

٢٦:٨٢

وَٱلَّذِىٓ And the One Who أَطْمَعُ I hope أَن that يَغْفِرَ He will forgive لِى for me خَطِيٓـَٔتِى my faults يَوْمَ (on the) Day ٱلدِّينِ (of) the Judgment ٨٢ (82)

And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense."

٢٦:٨٣

رَبِّ My Lord هَبْ Grant لِى [for] me حُكْمًۭا wisdom وَأَلْحِقْنِى and join me بِٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ with the righteous ٨٣ (83)

[And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous.

٢٦:٨٤

وَٱجْعَل And grant لِّى [for] me لِسَانَ a mention صِدْقٍۢ (of) honor فِى among ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ the later (generations) ٨٤ (84)

And grant me a mention [i.e., reputation] of honor among later generations.

٢٦:٨٥

وَٱجْعَلْنِى And make me مِن of وَرَثَةِ (the) inheritors جَنَّةِ (of) Garden(s) ٱلنَّعِيمِ (of) Delight ٨٥ (85)

And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure.

٢٦:٨٦

وَٱغْفِرْ And forgive لِأَبِىٓ my father إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he كَانَ is مِنَ of ٱلضَّآلِّينَ those astray ٨٦ (86)

And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray.

٢٦:٨٧

وَلَا And (do) not تُخْزِنِى disgrace me يَوْمَ (on the) Day يُبْعَثُونَ they are resurrected ٨٧ (87)

And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected -

٢٦:٨٨

يَوْمَ (The) Day لَا not يَنفَعُ will benefit مَالٌۭ wealth وَلَا and not بَنُونَ sons ٨٨ (88)

The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children

٢٦:٨٩

إِلَّا Except مَنْ (he) who أَتَى comes ٱللَّهَ (to) Allah بِقَلْبٍۢ with a heart سَلِيمٍۢ sound ٨٩ (89)

But only one who comes to Allāh with a sound heart."

٢٦:٩٠

وَأُزْلِفَتِ And (will be) brought near ٱلْجَنَّةُ the Paradise لِلْمُتَّقِينَ for the righteous ٩٠ (90)

And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous.

٢٦:٩١

وَبُرِّزَتِ And (will be) made manifest ٱلْجَحِيمُ the Hellfire لِلْغَاوِينَ to the deviators ٩١ (91)

And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators,

٢٦:٩٢

وَقِيلَ And it will be said لَهُمْ to them أَيْنَ Where مَا (is) that كُنتُمْ you used تَعْبُدُونَ (to) worship ٩٢ (92)

And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship

٢٦:٩٣

مِن Besides Allah دُونِ Besides Allah ٱللَّهِ Besides Allah هَلْ Can يَنصُرُونَكُمْ they help you أَوْ or يَنتَصِرُونَ help themselves ٩٣ (93)

Other than Allāh? Can they help you or help themselves?"

٢٦:٩٤

فَكُبْكِبُوا۟ Then they will be overturned فِيهَا into it هُمْ they وَٱلْغَاوُۥنَ and the deviators ٩٤ (94)

So they will be overturned into it [i.e., Hellfire], they and the deviators

٢٦:٩٥

وَجُنُودُ And (the) hosts إِبْلِيسَ (of) Iblis أَجْمَعُونَ all together ٩٥ (95)

And the soldiers of Iblees, all together.

٢٦:٩٦

قَالُوا۟ They (will) say وَهُمْ while they فِيهَا in it يَخْتَصِمُونَ (are) disputing ٩٦ (96)

They will say while they dispute therein,

٢٦:٩٧

تَٱللَّهِ By Allah إِن indeed كُنَّا we were لَفِى surely in ضَلَـٰلٍۢ error مُّبِينٍ clear ٩٧ (97)

"By Allāh, we were indeed in manifest error

٢٦:٩٨

إِذْ When نُسَوِّيكُم we equated you بِرَبِّ with (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ٩٨ (98)

When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds.

٢٦:٩٩

وَمَآ And not أَضَلَّنَآ misguided us إِلَّا except ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ the criminals ٩٩ (99)

And no one misguided us except the criminals.

٢٦:١٠٠

فَمَا So (now) not لَنَا we have مِن any شَـٰفِعِينَ intercessors ١٠٠ (100)

So now we have no intercessors

٢٦:١٠١

وَلَا And not صَدِيقٍ a friend حَمِيمٍۢ close ١٠١ (101)

And not a devoted friend.

٢٦:١٠٢

فَلَوْ Then if أَنَّ that لَنَا we had كَرَّةًۭ a return فَنَكُونَ then we could be مِنَ of ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers ١٠٢ (102)

Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers..."1

٢٦:١٠٣

إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ ۖ surely is a Sign وَمَا but not كَانَ are أَكْثَرُهُم most of them مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers ١٠٣ (103)

Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.

٢٦:١٠٤

وَإِنَّ And indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَهُوَ surely He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ١٠٤ (104)

And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

٢٦:١٠٥

كَذَّبَتْ Denied قَوْمُ (the) people نُوحٍ (of) Nuh ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers ١٠٥ (105)

The people of Noah denied the messengers

٢٦:١٠٦

إِذْ When قَالَ said لَهُمْ to them أَخُوهُمْ their brother نُوحٌ Nuh أَلَا Will not تَتَّقُونَ you fear (Allah) ١٠٦ (106)

When their brother Noah said to them, "Will you not fear Allāh?

٢٦:١٠٧

إِنِّى Indeed, I am لَكُمْ to you رَسُولٌ a Messenger أَمِينٌۭ trustworthy ١٠٧ (107)

Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.

٢٦:١٠٨

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me ١٠٨ (108)

So fear Allāh and obey me.

٢٦:١٠٩

وَمَآ And not أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ I ask (of) you عَلَيْهِ for it مِنْ any أَجْرٍ ۖ payment إِنْ Not أَجْرِىَ (is) my payment إِلَّا but عَلَىٰ from رَبِّ (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ١٠٩ (109)

And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.

٢٦:١١٠

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me ١١٠ (110)

So fear Allāh and obey me."

٢٦:١١١

۞ قَالُوٓا۟ They said أَنُؤْمِنُ Should we believe لَكَ in you وَٱتَّبَعَكَ while followed you ٱلْأَرْذَلُونَ the lowest ١١١ (111)

They said, "Should we believe you while you are followed by the lowest [class of people]?"

٢٦:١١٢

قَالَ He said وَمَا And what عِلْمِى (do) I know بِمَا of what كَانُوا۟ they used يَعْمَلُونَ (to) do ١١٢ (112)

He said, "And what is my knowledge of what they used to do?

٢٦:١١٣

إِنْ Verily حِسَابُهُمْ their account إِلَّا (is) but عَلَىٰ upon رَبِّى ۖ my Lord لَوْ if تَشْعُرُونَ you perceive ١١٣ (113)

Their account is only upon my Lord, if you [could] perceive.

٢٦:١١٤

وَمَآ And not أَنَا۠ I am بِطَارِدِ the one to drive away ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers ١١٤ (114)

And I am not one to drive away the believers.

٢٦:١١٥

إِنْ Not أَنَا۠ I am إِلَّا but نَذِيرٌۭ a warner مُّبِينٌۭ clear ١١٥ (115)

I am only a clear warner."

٢٦:١١٦

قَالُوا۟ They said لَئِن If لَّمْ not تَنتَهِ you desist يَـٰنُوحُ O Nuh لَتَكُونَنَّ Surely you will be مِنَ of ٱلْمَرْجُومِينَ those who are stoned ١١٦ (116)

They said, "If you do not desist, O Noah, you will surely be of those who are stoned."

٢٦:١١٧

قَالَ He said رَبِّ My Lord إِنَّ Indeed قَوْمِى my people كَذَّبُونِ have denied me ١١٧ (117)

He said, "My Lord, indeed my people have denied me.

٢٦:١١٨

فَٱفْتَحْ So judge بَيْنِى between me وَبَيْنَهُمْ and between them فَتْحًۭا (with decisive) judgment وَنَجِّنِى and save me وَمَن and who مَّعِىَ (are) with me مِنَ of ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers ١١٨ (118)

Then judge between me and them with decisive judgement and save me and those with me of the believers."

٢٦:١١٩

فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُ So We saved him وَمَن and who مَّعَهُۥ (were) with him فِى in ٱلْفُلْكِ the ship ٱلْمَشْحُونِ laden ١١٩ (119)

So We saved him and those with him in the laden ship.

٢٦:١٢٠

ثُمَّ Then أَغْرَقْنَا We drowned بَعْدُ thereafter ٱلْبَاقِينَ the remaining ones ١٢٠ (120)

Then We drowned thereafter the remaining ones.

٢٦:١٢١

إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ ۖ surely, (is) a sign وَمَا but not كَانَ are أَكْثَرُهُم most of them مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers ١٢١ (121)

Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.

٢٦:١٢٢

وَإِنَّ And indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَهُوَ surely, He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ١٢٢ (122)

And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

٢٦:١٢٣

كَذَّبَتْ Denied عَادٌ (the people) of Aad ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers ١٢٣ (123)

ʿAad denied the messengers

٢٦:١٢٤

إِذْ When قَالَ said لَهُمْ to them أَخُوهُمْ their brother هُودٌ Hud أَلَا Will not تَتَّقُونَ you fear (Allah) ١٢٤ (124)

When their brother Hūd said to them, "Will you not fear Allāh?

٢٦:١٢٥

إِنِّى Indeed, I am لَكُمْ to you رَسُولٌ a Messenger أَمِينٌۭ trustworthy ١٢٥ (125)

Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.

٢٦:١٢٦

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me ١٢٦ (126)

So fear Allāh and obey me.

٢٦:١٢٧

وَمَآ And not أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ I ask you عَلَيْهِ for it مِنْ any أَجْرٍ ۖ payment إِنْ Not أَجْرِىَ (is) my payment إِلَّا except عَلَىٰ from رَبِّ (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ١٢٧ (127)

And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.

٢٦:١٢٨

أَتَبْنُونَ Do you construct بِكُلِّ on every رِيعٍ elevation ءَايَةًۭ a sign تَعْبَثُونَ amusing yourselves ١٢٨ (128)

Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves,

٢٦:١٢٩

وَتَتَّخِذُونَ And take for yourselves مَصَانِعَ strongholds لَعَلَّكُمْ that you may تَخْلُدُونَ live forever ١٢٩ (129)

And take for yourselves constructions [i.e., palaces and fortresses] that you might abide eternally?

٢٦:١٣٠

وَإِذَا And when بَطَشْتُم you seize بَطَشْتُمْ you seize جَبَّارِينَ (as) tyrants ١٣٠ (130)

And when you strike, you strike as tyrants.

٢٦:١٣١

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me ١٣١ (131)

So fear Allāh and obey me.

٢٦:١٣٢

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ And fear ٱلَّذِىٓ the One Who أَمَدَّكُم has aided you بِمَا with what تَعْلَمُونَ you know ١٣٢ (132)

And fear He who provided you with that which you know,

٢٦:١٣٣

أَمَدَّكُم He has aided you بِأَنْعَـٰمٍۢ with cattle وَبَنِينَ and children ١٣٣ (133)

Provided you with grazing livestock and children

٢٦:١٣٤

وَجَنَّـٰتٍۢ And gardens وَعُيُونٍ and springs ١٣٤ (134)

And gardens and springs.

٢٦:١٣٥

إِنِّىٓ Indeed, I أَخَافُ [I] fear عَلَيْكُمْ for you عَذَابَ (the) punishment يَوْمٍ (of) a Day عَظِيمٍۢ Great ١٣٥ (135)

Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day."

٢٦:١٣٦

قَالُوا۟ They said سَوَآءٌ (It is) same عَلَيْنَآ to us أَوَعَظْتَ whether you advise أَمْ or لَمْ not تَكُن you are مِّنَ of ٱلْوَٰعِظِينَ the advisors ١٣٦ (136)

They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors.

٢٦:١٣٧

إِنْ Not هَـٰذَآ (is) this إِلَّا but خُلُقُ (the) custom ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (of) the former (people) ١٣٧ (137)

This is not but the custom of the former peoples,

٢٦:١٣٨

وَمَا And not نَحْنُ we بِمُعَذَّبِينَ (are) the ones to be punished ١٣٨ (138)

And we are not to be punished."

٢٦:١٣٩

فَكَذَّبُوهُ So they denied him فَأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ ۗ then We destroyed them إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ ۖ surely, is a sign وَمَا but not كَانَ are أَكْثَرُهُم most of them مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers ١٣٩ (139)

And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.

٢٦:١٤٠

وَإِنَّ And indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَهُوَ surely, He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ١٤٠ (140)

And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

٢٦:١٤١

كَذَّبَتْ Denied ثَمُودُ Thamud ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers ١٤١ (141)

Thamūd denied the messengers

٢٦:١٤٢

إِذْ When قَالَ said لَهُمْ to them أَخُوهُمْ their brother صَـٰلِحٌ Salih أَلَا Will not تَتَّقُونَ you fear (Allah) ١٤٢ (142)

When their brother Ṣāliḥ said to them, "Will you not fear Allāh?

٢٦:١٤٣

إِنِّى Indeed, I am لَكُمْ to you رَسُولٌ a Messenger أَمِينٌۭ trustworthy ١٤٣ (143)

Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.

٢٦:١٤٤

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me ١٤٤ (144)

So fear Allāh and obey me.

٢٦:١٤٥

وَمَآ And not أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ I ask you عَلَيْهِ for it مِنْ any أَجْرٍ ۖ payment إِنْ Not أَجْرِىَ (is) my payment إِلَّا except عَلَىٰ from رَبِّ (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ١٤٥ (145)

And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.

٢٦:١٤٦

أَتُتْرَكُونَ Will you be left فِى in مَا what هَـٰهُنَآ (is) here ءَامِنِينَ secure ١٤٦ (146)

Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death],

٢٦:١٤٧

فِى In جَنَّـٰتٍۢ gardens وَعُيُونٍۢ and springs ١٤٧ (147)

Within gardens and springs

٢٦:١٤٨

وَزُرُوعٍۢ And cornfields وَنَخْلٍۢ and date-palms طَلْعُهَا its spadix هَضِيمٌۭ soft ١٤٨ (148)

And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit?

٢٦:١٤٩

وَتَنْحِتُونَ And you carve مِنَ of ٱلْجِبَالِ the mountains بُيُوتًۭا houses فَـٰرِهِينَ skillfully ١٤٩ (149)

And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill.

٢٦:١٥٠

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me ١٥٠ (150)

So fear Allāh and obey me.

٢٦:١٥١

وَلَا And (do) not تُطِيعُوٓا۟ obey أَمْرَ (the) command ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ (of) the transgressors ١٥١ (151)

And do not obey the order of the transgressors,

٢٦:١٥٢

ٱلَّذِينَ Those who يُفْسِدُونَ spread corruption فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth وَلَا and (do) not يُصْلِحُونَ reform ١٥٢ (152)

Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend."

٢٦:١٥٣

قَالُوٓا۟ They said إِنَّمَآ Only أَنتَ you مِنَ (are) of ٱلْمُسَحَّرِينَ those bewitched ١٥٣ (153)

They said, "You are only of those affected by magic.

٢٦:١٥٤

مَآ Not أَنتَ you إِلَّا (are) except بَشَرٌۭ a man مِّثْلُنَا like us فَأْتِ so bring بِـَٔايَةٍ a sign إِن if كُنتَ you مِنَ (are) of ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ the truthful ١٥٤ (154)

You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful."

٢٦:١٥٥

قَالَ He said هَـٰذِهِۦ This نَاقَةٌۭ (is) a she-camel لَّهَا For her شِرْبٌۭ (is a share of) drink وَلَكُمْ and for you شِرْبُ (is a share of) drink يَوْمٍۢ (on) a day مَّعْلُومٍۢ known ١٥٥ (155)

He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day.

٢٦:١٥٦

وَلَا And (do) not تَمَسُّوهَا touch her بِسُوٓءٍۢ with harm فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ lest seize you عَذَابُ (the) punishment يَوْمٍ (of) a Day عَظِيمٍۢ Great ١٥٦ (156)

And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day."

٢٦:١٥٧

فَعَقَرُوهَا But they hamstrung her فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ then they became نَـٰدِمِينَ regretful ١٥٧ (157)

But they hamstrung her and so became regretful.

٢٦:١٥٨

فَأَخَذَهُمُ So seized them ٱلْعَذَابُ ۗ the punishment إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ ۖ surely is a sign وَمَا but not كَانَ are أَكْثَرُهُم most of them مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers ١٥٨ (158)

And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.

٢٦:١٥٩

وَإِنَّ And indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَهُوَ surely He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ١٥٩ (159)

And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

٢٦:١٦٠

كَذَّبَتْ Denied قَوْمُ (the) people لُوطٍ (of) Lut ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers ١٦٠ (160)

The people of Lot denied the messengers

٢٦:١٦١

إِذْ When قَالَ said لَهُمْ to them أَخُوهُمْ their brother لُوطٌ Lut أَلَا Will not تَتَّقُونَ you fear (Allah) ١٦١ (161)

When their brother Lot said to them, "Will you not fear Allāh?

٢٦:١٦٢

إِنِّى Indeed, I am لَكُمْ to you رَسُولٌ a Messenger أَمِينٌۭ trustworthy ١٦٢ (162)

Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.

٢٦:١٦٣

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me ١٦٣ (163)

So fear Allāh and obey me.

٢٦:١٦٤

وَمَآ And not أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ I ask you عَلَيْهِ for it مِنْ any أَجْرٍ ۖ payment إِنْ Not أَجْرِىَ (is) my payment إِلَّا except عَلَىٰ from رَبِّ (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ١٦٤ (164)

And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.

٢٦:١٦٥

أَتَأْتُونَ Do you approach ٱلذُّكْرَانَ the males مِنَ among ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ the worlds ١٦٥ (165)

Do you approach males among the worlds

٢٦:١٦٦

وَتَذَرُونَ And you leave مَا what خَلَقَ created لَكُمْ for you رَبُّكُم your Lord مِّنْ of أَزْوَٰجِكُم ۚ your mates بَلْ Nay أَنتُمْ you قَوْمٌ (are) a people عَادُونَ transgressing ١٦٦ (166)

And leave what your Lord has created for you as mates? But you are a people transgressing."

٢٦:١٦٧

قَالُوا۟ They said لَئِن If لَّمْ not تَنتَهِ you desist يَـٰلُوطُ O Lut لَتَكُونَنَّ Surely, you will be مِنَ of ٱلْمُخْرَجِينَ the ones driven out ١٦٧ (167)

They said, "If you do not desist, O Lot, you will surely be of those evicted."

٢٦:١٦٨

قَالَ He said إِنِّى Indeed, I am لِعَمَلِكُم (of) your deed مِّنَ of ٱلْقَالِينَ those who detest ١٦٨ (168)

He said, "Indeed, I am, toward your deed, of those who detest [it].

٢٦:١٦٩

رَبِّ My Lord نَجِّنِى Save me وَأَهْلِى and my family مِمَّا from what يَعْمَلُونَ they do ١٦٩ (169)

My Lord, save me and my family from [the consequence of] what they do."

٢٦:١٧٠

فَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ So We saved him وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ and his family أَجْمَعِينَ all ١٧٠ (170)

So We saved him and his family, all,

٢٦:١٧١

إِلَّا Except عَجُوزًۭا an old woman فِى (was) among ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ those who remained behind ١٧١ (171)

Except an old woman among those who remained behind.

٢٦:١٧٢

ثُمَّ Then دَمَّرْنَا We destroyed ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ the others ١٧٢ (172)

Then We destroyed the others.

٢٦:١٧٣

وَأَمْطَرْنَا And We rained عَلَيْهِم upon them مَّطَرًۭا ۖ a rain فَسَآءَ and evil was مَطَرُ (was) the rain ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ (on) those who were warned ١٧٣ (173)

And We rained upon them a rain [of stones], and evil was the rain of those who were warned.

٢٦:١٧٤

إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ ۖ surely is a sign وَمَا but not كَانَ are أَكْثَرُهُم most of them مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers ١٧٤ (174)

Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.

٢٦:١٧٥

وَإِنَّ And indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَهُوَ surely, He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ١٧٥ (175)

And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

٢٦:١٧٦

كَذَّبَ Denied أَصْحَـٰبُ (the) companions لْـَٔيْكَةِ (of the) Wood ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers ١٧٦ (176)

The companions of the thicket [i.e., the people of Madyan] denied the messengers

٢٦:١٧٧

إِذْ When قَالَ said لَهُمْ to them شُعَيْبٌ Shuaib أَلَا Will not تَتَّقُونَ you fear (Allah) ١٧٧ (177)

When Shuʿayb said to them, "Will you not fear Allāh?

٢٦:١٧٨

إِنِّى Indeed, I am لَكُمْ to you رَسُولٌ a Messenger أَمِينٌۭ trustworthy ١٧٨ (178)

Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.

٢٦:١٧٩

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me ١٧٩ (179)

So fear Allāh and obey me.

٢٦:١٨٠

وَمَآ And not أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ I ask (of) you عَلَيْهِ for it مِنْ any أَجْرٍ ۖ payment إِنْ Not أَجْرِىَ (is) my payment إِلَّا except عَلَىٰ from رَبِّ (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ١٨٠ (180)

And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.

٢٦:١٨١

۞ أَوْفُوا۟ Give full ٱلْكَيْلَ measure وَلَا and (do) not تَكُونُوا۟ be مِنَ of ٱلْمُخْسِرِينَ those who cause loss ١٨١ (181)

Give full measure and do not be of those who cause loss.

٢٦:١٨٢

وَزِنُوا۟ And weigh بِٱلْقِسْطَاسِ with a balance ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمِ [the] even ١٨٢ (182)

And weigh with an even [i.e., honest] balance.

٢٦:١٨٣

وَلَا And (do) not تَبْخَسُوا۟ deprive ٱلنَّاسَ people أَشْيَآءَهُمْ (of) their things وَلَا and (do) not تَعْثَوْا۟ commit evil فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth مُفْسِدِينَ spreading corruption ١٨٣ (183)

And do not deprive people of their due and do not commit abuse on earth, spreading corruption.

٢٦:١٨٤

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ And fear ٱلَّذِى the One Who خَلَقَكُمْ created you وَٱلْجِبِلَّةَ and the generations ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ the former ١٨٤ (184)

And fear He who created you and the former creation."1

٢٦:١٨٥

قَالُوٓا۟ They said إِنَّمَآ Only أَنتَ you مِنَ (are) of ٱلْمُسَحَّرِينَ those bewitched ١٨٥ (185)

They said, "You are only of those affected by magic.

٢٦:١٨٦

وَمَآ And not أَنتَ you إِلَّا (are) except بَشَرٌۭ a man مِّثْلُنَا like us وَإِن and indeed نَّظُنُّكَ we think you لَمِنَ surely (are) of ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ the liars ١٨٦ (186)

You are but a man like ourselves, and indeed, we think you are among the liars.

٢٦:١٨٧

فَأَسْقِطْ Then cause to fall عَلَيْنَا upon us كِسَفًۭا fragments مِّنَ of ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky إِن if كُنتَ you are مِنَ of ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ the truthful ١٨٧ (187)

So cause to fall upon us fragments of the sky, if you should be of the truthful."

٢٦:١٨٨

قَالَ He said رَبِّىٓ My Lord أَعْلَمُ knows best بِمَا of what تَعْمَلُونَ you do ١٨٨ (188)

He said, "My Lord is most knowing of what you do."

٢٦:١٨٩

فَكَذَّبُوهُ But they denied him فَأَخَذَهُمْ so seized them عَذَابُ (the) punishment يَوْمِ (of the) day ٱلظُّلَّةِ ۚ (of) the shadow إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, it كَانَ was عَذَابَ (the) punishment يَوْمٍ (of) a Day عَظِيمٍ Great ١٨٩ (189)

And they denied him, so the punishment of the day of the black cloud seized them. Indeed, it was the punishment of a terrible day.

٢٦:١٩٠

إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ ۖ surely, is a sign وَمَا but not كَانَ are أَكْثَرُهُم most of them مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers ١٩٠ (190)

Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.

٢٦:١٩١

وَإِنَّ And indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَهُوَ surely, He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ١٩١ (191)

And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

٢٦:١٩٢

وَإِنَّهُۥ And indeed, it لَتَنزِيلُ surely, is a Revelation رَبِّ (of the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ١٩٢ (192)

And indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is the revelation of the Lord of the worlds.

٢٦:١٩٣

نَزَلَ Has brought it down بِهِ Has brought it down ٱلرُّوحُ the Spirit ٱلْأَمِينُ [the] Trustworthy ١٩٣ (193)

The Trustworthy Spirit [i.e., Gabriel] has brought it down

٢٦:١٩٤

عَلَىٰ Upon قَلْبِكَ your heart لِتَكُونَ that you may be مِنَ of ٱلْمُنذِرِينَ the warners ١٩٤ (194)

Upon your heart, [O Muḥammad] - that you may be of the warners -

٢٦:١٩٥

بِلِسَانٍ In language عَرَبِىٍّۢ Arabic مُّبِينٍۢ clear ١٩٥ (195)

In a clear Arabic language.

٢٦:١٩٦

وَإِنَّهُۥ And indeed, it لَفِى surely, (is) in زُبُرِ (the) Scriptures ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (of) the former (people) ١٩٦ (196)

And indeed, it is [mentioned] in the scriptures of former peoples.

٢٦:١٩٧

أَوَلَمْ Is it not يَكُن Is it not لَّهُمْ to them ءَايَةً a sign أَن that يَعْلَمَهُۥ know it عُلَمَـٰٓؤُا۟ (the) scholars بَنِىٓ (of the) Children إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ (of) Israel ١٩٧ (197)

And has it not been a sign to them that it is recognized by the scholars of the Children of Israel?

٢٦:١٩٨

وَلَوْ And if نَزَّلْنَـٰهُ We (had) revealed it عَلَىٰ to بَعْضِ any ٱلْأَعْجَمِينَ (of) the non-Arabs ١٩٨ (198)

And even if We had revealed it to one among the foreigners

٢٦:١٩٩

فَقَرَأَهُۥ And he (had) recited it عَلَيْهِم to them مَّا not كَانُوا۟ they would بِهِۦ in it مُؤْمِنِينَ (be) believers ١٩٩ (199)

And he had recited it to them [perfectly], they would [still] not have been believers in it.

٢٦:٢٠٠

كَذَٰلِكَ Thus سَلَكْنَـٰهُ We have inserted it فِى into قُلُوبِ (the) hearts ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ (of) the criminals ٢٠٠ (200)

Thus have We inserted it [i.e., disbelief] into the hearts of the criminals.

٢٦:٢٠١

لَا Not يُؤْمِنُونَ they will believe بِهِۦ in it حَتَّىٰ until يَرَوُا۟ they see ٱلْعَذَابَ the punishment ٱلْأَلِيمَ [the] painful ٢٠١ (201)

They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment.

٢٦:٢٠٢

فَيَأْتِيَهُم And it will come to them بَغْتَةًۭ suddenly وَهُمْ while they لَا (do) not يَشْعُرُونَ perceive ٢٠٢ (202)

And it will come to them suddenly while they perceive [it] not.

٢٦:٢٠٣

فَيَقُولُوا۟ Then they will say هَلْ Are نَحْنُ we مُنظَرُونَ (to be) reprieved ٢٠٣ (203)

And they will say, "May we be reprieved?"

٢٦:٢٠٤

أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا So is it for Our punishment يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ they wish to hasten ٢٠٤ (204)

So for Our punishment are they impatient?

٢٦:٢٠٥

أَفَرَءَيْتَ Then have you seen إِن if مَّتَّعْنَـٰهُمْ We let them enjoy سِنِينَ (for) years ٢٠٥ (205)

Then have you considered if We gave them enjoyment for years

٢٦:٢٠٦

ثُمَّ Then جَآءَهُم comes to them مَّا what كَانُوا۟ they were يُوعَدُونَ promised ٢٠٦ (206)

And then there came to them that which they were promised?

٢٦:٢٠٧

مَآ Not أَغْنَىٰ (will) avail عَنْهُم them مَّا what كَانُوا۟ enjoyment they were given يُمَتَّعُونَ enjoyment they were given ٢٠٧ (207)

They would not be availed by the enjoyment with which they were provided.

٢٦:٢٠٨

وَمَآ And not أَهْلَكْنَا We destroyed مِن any قَرْيَةٍ town إِلَّا but لَهَا it had مُنذِرُونَ warners ٢٠٨ (208)

And We did not destroy any city except that it had warners

٢٦:٢٠٩

ذِكْرَىٰ (To) remind وَمَا and not كُنَّا We are ظَـٰلِمِينَ unjust ٢٠٩ (209)

As a reminder; and never have We been unjust.

٢٦:٢١٠

وَمَا And not تَنَزَّلَتْ have brought it down بِهِ have brought it down ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينُ the devils ٢١٠ (210)

And the devils have not brought it [i.e., the revelation] down.

٢٦:٢١١

وَمَا And not يَنۢبَغِى (it) suits لَهُمْ [for] them وَمَا and not يَسْتَطِيعُونَ they are able ٢١١ (211)

It is not allowable for them, nor would they be able.

٢٦:٢١٢

إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they عَنِ from ٱلسَّمْعِ the hearing لَمَعْزُولُونَ (are) surely banished ٢١٢ (212)

Indeed they, from [its] hearing, are removed.

٢٦:٢١٣

فَلَا So (do) not تَدْعُ invoke مَعَ with ٱللَّهِ Allah إِلَـٰهًا god ءَاخَرَ another فَتَكُونَ lest you be مِنَ of ٱلْمُعَذَّبِينَ those punished ٢١٣ (213)

So do not invoke with Allāh another deity and [thus] be among the punished.

٢٦:٢١٤

وَأَنذِرْ And warn عَشِيرَتَكَ your kindred ٱلْأَقْرَبِينَ [the] closest ٢١٤ (214)

And warn, [O Muḥammad], your closest kindred.

٢٦:٢١٥

وَٱخْفِضْ And lower جَنَاحَكَ your wing لِمَنِ to (those) who ٱتَّبَعَكَ follow you مِنَ of ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers ٢١٥ (215)

And lower your wing [i.e., show kindness] to those who follow you of the believers.

٢٦:٢١٦

فَإِنْ Then if عَصَوْكَ they disobey you فَقُلْ then say إِنِّى Indeed, I am بَرِىٓءٌۭ innocent مِّمَّا of what تَعْمَلُونَ you do ٢١٦ (216)

And if they disobey you, then say, "Indeed, I am disassociated from what you are doing."

٢٦:٢١٧

وَتَوَكَّلْ And put (your) trust عَلَى in ٱلْعَزِيزِ the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful ٢١٧ (217)

And rely upon the Exalted in Might, the Merciful,

٢٦:٢١٨

ٱلَّذِى The One Who يَرَىٰكَ sees you حِينَ when تَقُومُ you stand up ٢١٨ (218)

Who sees you when you arise

٢٦:٢١٩

وَتَقَلُّبَكَ And your movements فِى among ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ those who prostrate ٢١٩ (219)

And your movement among those who prostrate.

٢٦:٢٢٠

إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He هُوَ [He] ٱلسَّمِيعُ (is) the All-Hearer ٱلْعَلِيمُ the All-Knower ٢٢٠ (220)

Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

٢٦:٢٢١

هَلْ Shall أُنَبِّئُكُمْ I inform you عَلَىٰ upon مَن whom تَنَزَّلُ descend ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينُ the devils ٢٢١ (221)

Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend?

٢٦:٢٢٢

تَنَزَّلُ They descend عَلَىٰ upon كُلِّ every أَفَّاكٍ liar أَثِيمٍۢ sinful ٢٢٢ (222)

They descend upon every sinful liar.

٢٦:٢٢٣

يُلْقُونَ They pass on ٱلسَّمْعَ (what is) heard وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ and most of them كَـٰذِبُونَ (are) liars ٢٢٣ (223)

They pass on what is heard, and most of them are liars.

٢٦:٢٢٤

وَٱلشُّعَرَآءُ And the poets يَتَّبِعُهُمُ follow them ٱلْغَاوُۥنَ the deviators ٢٢٤ (224)

And the poets - [only] the deviators follow them;

٢٦:٢٢٥

أَلَمْ Do not تَرَ you see أَنَّهُمْ that they فِى in كُلِّ every وَادٍۢ valley يَهِيمُونَ [they] roam ٢٢٥ (225)

Do you not see that in every valley they roam

٢٦:٢٢٦

وَأَنَّهُمْ And that they يَقُولُونَ say مَا what لَا not يَفْعَلُونَ they do ٢٢٦ (226)

And that they say what they do not do? -

٢٦:٢٢٧

إِلَّا Except ٱلَّذِينَ those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds وَذَكَرُوا۟ and remember ٱللَّهَ Allah كَثِيرًۭا much وَٱنتَصَرُوا۟ and defend themselves مِنۢ after بَعْدِ after مَا after ظُلِمُوا۟ ۗ they were wronged وَسَيَعْلَمُ And will come to know ٱلَّذِينَ those who ظَلَمُوٓا۟ have wronged أَىَّ (to) what مُنقَلَبٍۢ return يَنقَلِبُونَ they will return ٢٢٧ (227)

Except those [poets] who believe and do righteous deeds and remember Allāh often and defend [the Muslims]1 after they were wronged. And those who have wronged are going to know to what [kind of] return they will be returned.
