بسملة

بِسْمِ In (the) name ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

٣٤:١

ٱلْحَمْدُ All praises لِلَّهِ (be) to Allah ٱلَّذِى the One to Whom belongs لَهُۥ the One to Whom belongs مَا whatever فِى (is) in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَمَا and whatever فِى (is) in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth وَلَهُ and for Him ٱلْحَمْدُ (are) all praises فِى in ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۚ the Hereafter وَهُوَ And He ٱلْحَكِيمُ (is) the All-Wise ٱلْخَبِيرُ the All-Aware ١ (1)

[All] praise is [due] to Allāh, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth, and to Him belongs [all] praise in the Hereafter. And He is the Wise, the Aware.

٣٤:٢

يَعْلَمُ He knows مَا what يَلِجُ penetrates فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth وَمَا and what يَخْرُجُ comes out مِنْهَا from it وَمَا and what يَنزِلُ descends مِنَ from ٱلسَّمَآءِ the heaven وَمَا and what يَعْرُجُ ascends فِيهَا ۚ therein وَهُوَ And He ٱلرَّحِيمُ (is) the Most Merciful ٱلْغَفُورُ the Oft-Forgiving ٢ (2)

He knows what penetrates into the earth and what emerges from it and what descends from the heaven and what ascends therein. And He is the Merciful, the Forgiving.

٣٤:٣

وَقَالَ But say ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve لَا Not تَأْتِينَا will come to us ٱلسَّاعَةُ ۖ the Hour قُلْ Say بَلَىٰ Nay وَرَبِّى by my Lord لَتَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ surely it will come to you عَـٰلِمِ (He is the) Knower ٱلْغَيْبِ ۖ (of) the unseen لَا Not يَعْزُبُ escapes عَنْهُ from Him مِثْقَالُ (the) weight ذَرَّةٍۢ (of) an atom فِى in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَلَا and not فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth وَلَآ and not أَصْغَرُ smaller مِن than ذَٰلِكَ that وَلَآ and not أَكْبَرُ greater إِلَّا but فِى (is) in كِتَـٰبٍۢ a Record مُّبِينٍۢ Clear ٣ (3)

But those who disbelieve say, "The Hour will not come to us." Say, "Yes, by my Lord, it will surely come to you. [Allāh is] the Knower of the unseen." Not absent from Him is an atom's weight within the heavens or within the earth or [what is] smaller than that or greater, except that it is in a clear register -

٣٤:٤

لِّيَجْزِىَ That He may reward ٱلَّذِينَ those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ ۚ righteous deeds أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those لَهُم for them مَّغْفِرَةٌۭ (will be) forgiveness وَرِزْقٌۭ and a provision كَرِيمٌۭ noble ٤ (4)

That He may reward those who believe and do righteous deeds. Those will have forgiveness and noble provision.

٣٤:٥

وَٱلَّذِينَ But those who سَعَوْ strive فِىٓ against ءَايَـٰتِنَا Our Verses مُعَـٰجِزِينَ (to) cause failure أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those لَهُمْ for them عَذَابٌۭ (is) a punishment مِّن of رِّجْزٍ foul nature أَلِيمٌۭ painful ٥ (5)

But those who strive against Our verses [seeking] to cause failure - for them will be a painful punishment of foul nature.

٣٤:٦

وَيَرَى And see ٱلَّذِينَ those who أُوتُوا۟ have been given ٱلْعِلْمَ the knowledge ٱلَّذِىٓ (that) what أُنزِلَ is revealed إِلَيْكَ to you مِن from رَّبِّكَ your Lord هُوَ [it] ٱلْحَقَّ (is) the Truth وَيَهْدِىٓ and it guides إِلَىٰ to صِرَٰطِ (the) Path ٱلْعَزِيزِ (of) the All-Mighty ٱلْحَمِيدِ the Praiseworthy ٦ (6)

And those who have been given knowledge see that what is revealed to you from your Lord is the truth, and it guides to the path of the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy.

٣٤:٧

وَقَالَ But say ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve هَلْ Shall نَدُلُّكُمْ we direct you عَلَىٰ to رَجُلٍۢ a man يُنَبِّئُكُمْ who informs you إِذَا when مُزِّقْتُمْ you have disintegrated كُلَّ (in) total مُمَزَّقٍ disintegration إِنَّكُمْ indeed you لَفِى surely (will be) in خَلْقٍۢ a creation جَدِيدٍ new ٧ (7)

But those who disbelieve say, "Shall we direct you to a man who will inform you [that] when you have disintegrated in complete disintegration, you will [then] be [recreated] in a new creation?

٣٤:٨

أَفْتَرَىٰ Has he invented عَلَى about ٱللَّهِ Allah كَذِبًا a lie أَم or بِهِۦ in him جِنَّةٌۢ ۗ (is) madness بَلِ Nay ٱلَّذِينَ those who لَا (do) not يُؤْمِنُونَ believe بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ in the Hereafter فِى (will be) in ٱلْعَذَابِ the punishment وَٱلضَّلَـٰلِ and error ٱلْبَعِيدِ far ٨ (8)

Has he invented about Allāh a lie or is there in him madness?" Rather, they who do not believe in the Hereafter will be in the punishment and [are in] extreme error.

٣٤:٩

أَفَلَمْ Then, do not يَرَوْا۟ they see إِلَىٰ towards مَا what بَيْنَ (is) before them أَيْدِيهِمْ (is) before them وَمَا and what خَلْفَهُم (is) behind them مِّنَ of ٱلسَّمَآءِ the heaven وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ and the earth إِن If نَّشَأْ We will نَخْسِفْ We (could) cause to swallow them بِهِمُ We (could) cause to swallow them ٱلْأَرْضَ the earth أَوْ or نُسْقِطْ cause to fall عَلَيْهِمْ upon them كِسَفًۭا fragments مِّنَ from ٱلسَّمَآءِ ۚ the sky إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ surely, is a Sign لِّكُلِّ for every عَبْدٍۢ slave مُّنِيبٍۢ who turns (to Allah) ٩ (9)

Then, do they not look at what is before them and what is behind them of the heaven and earth? If We should will, We could cause the earth to swallow them or [could] let fall upon them fragments from the sky. Indeed in that is a sign for every servant turning back [to Allāh].

٣٤:١٠

۞ وَلَقَدْ And certainly ءَاتَيْنَا We gave دَاوُۥدَ Dawood مِنَّا from Us فَضْلًۭا ۖ Bounty يَـٰجِبَالُ O mountains أَوِّبِى Repeat praises مَعَهُۥ with him وَٱلطَّيْرَ ۖ and the birds وَأَلَنَّا And We made pliable لَهُ for him ٱلْحَدِيدَ [the] iron ١٠ (10)

And We certainly gave David from Us bounty. [We said], "O mountains, repeat [Our] praises with him, and the birds [as well]." And We made pliable for him iron,

٣٤:١١

أَنِ That ٱعْمَلْ make سَـٰبِغَـٰتٍۢ full coats of mail وَقَدِّرْ and measure precisely فِى [of] ٱلسَّرْدِ ۖ the links (of armor) وَٱعْمَلُوا۟ and work صَـٰلِحًا ۖ righteousness إِنِّى Indeed, I Am بِمَا of what تَعْمَلُونَ you do بَصِيرٌۭ All-Seer ١١ (11)

[Commanding him], "Make full coats of mail and calculate [precisely] the links, and work [all of you] righteousness. Indeed I, of what you do, am Seeing."

٣٤:١٢

وَلِسُلَيْمَـٰنَ And to Sulaiman ٱلرِّيحَ the wind غُدُوُّهَا its morning course شَهْرٌۭ (was) a month وَرَوَاحُهَا and its afternoon course شَهْرٌۭ ۖ (was) a month وَأَسَلْنَا and We caused to flow لَهُۥ for him عَيْنَ a spring ٱلْقِطْرِ ۖ (of) molten copper وَمِنَ And [of] ٱلْجِنِّ the jinn مَن who يَعْمَلُ worked بَيْنَ before him يَدَيْهِ before him بِإِذْنِ by the permission رَبِّهِۦ ۖ (of) his Lord وَمَن And whoever يَزِغْ deviated مِنْهُمْ among them عَنْ from أَمْرِنَا Our Command نُذِقْهُ We will make him taste مِنْ of عَذَابِ (the) punishment ٱلسَّعِيرِ (of) the Blaze ١٢ (12)

And to Solomon [We subjected] the wind - its morning [journey was that of] a month - and its afternoon [journey was that of] a month, and We made flow for him a spring of [liquid] copper. And among the jinn were those who worked for him by the permission of his Lord. And whoever deviated among them from Our command - We will make him taste of the punishment of the Blaze.

٣٤:١٣

يَعْمَلُونَ They worked لَهُۥ for him مَا what يَشَآءُ he willed مِن of مَّحَـٰرِيبَ elevated chambers وَتَمَـٰثِيلَ and statues وَجِفَانٍۢ and bowls كَٱلْجَوَابِ like reservoirs وَقُدُورٍۢ and cooking-pots رَّاسِيَـٰتٍ ۚ fixed ٱعْمَلُوٓا۟ Work ءَالَ O family دَاوُۥدَ (of) Dawood شُكْرًۭا ۚ (in) gratitude وَقَلِيلٌۭ But few مِّنْ of عِبَادِىَ My slaves ٱلشَّكُورُ (are) grateful ١٣ (13)

They made for him what he willed of elevated chambers, statues, bowls like reservoirs, and stationary kettles. [We said], "Work, O family of David, in gratitude." And few of My servants are grateful.

٣٤:١٤

فَلَمَّا Then when قَضَيْنَا We decreed عَلَيْهِ for him ٱلْمَوْتَ the death مَا not دَلَّهُمْ indicated to them عَلَىٰ [on] مَوْتِهِۦٓ his death إِلَّا except دَآبَّةُ a creature ٱلْأَرْضِ (of) the earth تَأْكُلُ eating مِنسَأَتَهُۥ ۖ his staff فَلَمَّا But when خَرَّ he fell down تَبَيَّنَتِ became clear ٱلْجِنُّ (to) the jinn أَن that لَّوْ if كَانُوا۟ they had يَعْلَمُونَ known ٱلْغَيْبَ the unseen مَا not لَبِثُوا۟ they (would have) remained فِى in ٱلْعَذَابِ the punishment ٱلْمُهِينِ humiliating ١٤ (14)

And when We decreed for him [i.e., Solomon] death, nothing indicated to them [i.e., the jinn] his death except a creature of the earth eating his staff. But when he fell, it became clear to the jinn that if they had known the unseen, they would not have remained in humiliating punishment.

٣٤:١٥

لَقَدْ Certainly كَانَ (there) was لِسَبَإٍۢ for Saba فِى in مَسْكَنِهِمْ their dwelling place ءَايَةٌۭ ۖ a sign: جَنَّتَانِ Two gardens عَن on يَمِينٍۢ (the) right وَشِمَالٍۢ ۖ and (on the) left كُلُوا۟ Eat مِن from رِّزْقِ (the) provision رَبِّكُمْ (of) your Lord وَٱشْكُرُوا۟ and be grateful لَهُۥ ۚ to Him بَلْدَةٌۭ A land طَيِّبَةٌۭ good وَرَبٌّ and a Lord غَفُورٌۭ Oft-Forgiving ١٥ (15)

There was for [the tribe of] Saba’ in their dwelling place a sign: two [fields of] gardens on the right and on the left. [They were told], "Eat from the provisions of your Lord and be grateful to Him. A good land [have you], and a forgiving Lord."

٣٤:١٦

فَأَعْرَضُوا۟ But they turned away فَأَرْسَلْنَا so We sent عَلَيْهِمْ upon them سَيْلَ (the) flood ٱلْعَرِمِ (of) the dam وَبَدَّلْنَـٰهُم and We changed for them بِجَنَّتَيْهِمْ their two gardens جَنَّتَيْنِ (with) two gardens ذَوَاتَىْ producing fruit أُكُلٍ producing fruit خَمْطٍۢ bitter وَأَثْلٍۢ and tamarisks وَشَىْءٍۢ and (some)thing مِّن of سِدْرٍۢ lote trees قَلِيلٍۢ few ١٦ (16)

But they turned away [refusing], so We sent upon them the flood of the dam, and We replaced their two [fields of] gardens with gardens of bitter fruit, tamarisks and something of sparse lote trees.

٣٤:١٧

ذَٰلِكَ That جَزَيْنَـٰهُم We recompensed them بِمَا because كَفَرُوا۟ ۖ they disbelieved وَهَلْ And not نُجَـٰزِىٓ We recompense إِلَّا except ٱلْكَفُورَ the ungrateful ١٧ (17)

[By] that We repaid them because they disbelieved. And do We [thus] repay except the ungrateful?

٣٤:١٨

وَجَعَلْنَا And We made بَيْنَهُمْ between them وَبَيْنَ and between ٱلْقُرَى the towns ٱلَّتِى which بَـٰرَكْنَا We had blessed فِيهَا in it قُرًۭى towns ظَـٰهِرَةًۭ visible وَقَدَّرْنَا And We determined فِيهَا between them ٱلسَّيْرَ ۖ the journey سِيرُوا۟ Travel فِيهَا between them لَيَالِىَ (by) night وَأَيَّامًا and (by) day ءَامِنِينَ safely ١٨ (18)

And We placed between them and the cities which We had blessed [many] visible cities. And We determined between them the [distances of] journey, [saying], "Travel between them by night or by day in safety."

٣٤:١٩

فَقَالُوا۟ But they said رَبَّنَا Our Lord بَـٰعِدْ lengthen (the distance) بَيْنَ between أَسْفَارِنَا our journeys وَظَلَمُوٓا۟ And they wronged أَنفُسَهُمْ themselves فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ so We made them أَحَادِيثَ narrations وَمَزَّقْنَـٰهُمْ and We dispersed them كُلَّ (in) a total مُمَزَّقٍ ۚ dispersion إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) Signs لِّكُلِّ for everyone صَبَّارٍۢ patient شَكُورٍۢ (and) grateful ١٩ (19)

But [insolently] they said, "Our Lord, lengthen the distance between our journeys," and wronged themselves, so We made them narrations and dispersed them in total dispersion. Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.

٣٤:٢٠

وَلَقَدْ And certainly صَدَّقَ found true عَلَيْهِمْ about them إِبْلِيسُ Iblis ظَنَّهُۥ his assumption فَٱتَّبَعُوهُ so they followed him إِلَّا except فَرِيقًۭا a group مِّنَ of ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers ٢٠ (20)

And Iblees had already confirmed through them his assumption, so they followed him, except for a party of believers.

٣٤:٢١

وَمَا And not كَانَ was لَهُۥ for him عَلَيْهِم over them مِّن any سُلْطَـٰنٍ authority إِلَّا except لِنَعْلَمَ that We (might) make evident مَن who يُؤْمِنُ believes بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ in the Hereafter مِمَّنْ from (one) who هُوَ [he] مِنْهَا about it فِى (is) in شَكٍّۢ ۗ doubt وَرَبُّكَ And your Lord عَلَىٰ over كُلِّ all شَىْءٍ things حَفِيظٌۭ (is) a Guardian ٢١ (21)

And he had over them no authority except [it was decreed] that We might make evident who believes in the Hereafter from who is thereof in doubt. And your Lord, over all things, is Guardian.

٣٤:٢٢

قُلِ Say ٱدْعُوا۟ Call upon ٱلَّذِينَ those whom زَعَمْتُم you claim مِّن besides دُونِ besides ٱللَّهِ ۖ Allah لَا Not يَمْلِكُونَ they possess مِثْقَالَ (the) weight ذَرَّةٍۢ (of) an atom فِى in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَلَا and not فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth وَمَا and not لَهُمْ for them فِيهِمَا in both of them مِن any شِرْكٍۢ partnership وَمَا and not لَهُۥ for Him مِنْهُم from them مِّن any ظَهِيرٍۢ supporter ٢٢ (22)

Say, [O Muḥammad], "Invoke those you claim [as deities] besides Allāh." They do not possess an atom's weight [of ability] in the heavens or on the earth, and they do not have therein any partnership [with Him], nor is there for Him from among them any assistant.

٣٤:٢٣

وَلَا And not تَنفَعُ benefits ٱلشَّفَـٰعَةُ the intercession عِندَهُۥٓ with Him إِلَّا except لِمَنْ for (one) whom أَذِنَ He permits لَهُۥ ۚ for him حَتَّىٰٓ Until إِذَا when فُزِّعَ fear is removed عَن on قُلُوبِهِمْ their hearts قَالُوا۟ they will say مَاذَا What is that قَالَ your Lord has said رَبُّكُمْ ۖ your Lord has said قَالُوا۟ They will say ٱلْحَقَّ ۖ The truth وَهُوَ And He ٱلْعَلِىُّ (is) the Most High ٱلْكَبِيرُ the Most Great ٢٣ (23)

And intercession does not benefit with Him except for one whom He permits. [And those wait] until, when terror is removed from their hearts, they will say [to one another], "What has your Lord said?" They will say, "The truth." And He is the Most High, the Grand.

٣٤:٢٤

۞ قُلْ Say مَن Who يَرْزُقُكُم provides (for) you مِّنَ from ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ and the earth قُلِ Say ٱللَّهُ ۖ Allah وَإِنَّآ And indeed, we أَوْ or إِيَّاكُمْ you لَعَلَىٰ (are) surely upon هُدًى guidance أَوْ or فِى in ضَلَـٰلٍۢ error مُّبِينٍۢ clear ٢٤ (24)

Say, "Who provides for you from the heavens and the earth?" Say, "Allāh. And indeed, we or you are either upon guidance or in clear error."

٣٤:٢٥

قُل Say لَّا Not تُسْـَٔلُونَ you will be asked عَمَّآ about what أَجْرَمْنَا sins we committed وَلَا and not نُسْـَٔلُ we will be asked عَمَّا about what تَعْمَلُونَ you do ٢٥ (25)

Say, "You will not be asked about what we committed, and we will not be asked about what you do."

٣٤:٢٦

قُلْ Say يَجْمَعُ Will gather بَيْنَنَا us together رَبُّنَا our Lord ثُمَّ then يَفْتَحُ He will judge بَيْنَنَا between us بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth وَهُوَ And He ٱلْفَتَّاحُ (is) the Judge ٱلْعَلِيمُ the All-Knowing ٢٦ (26)

Say, "Our Lord will bring us together; then He will judge between us in truth. And He is the Knowing Judge."1

٣٤:٢٧

قُلْ Say أَرُونِىَ Show me ٱلَّذِينَ those whom أَلْحَقْتُم you have joined بِهِۦ with Him شُرَكَآءَ ۖ (as) partners كَلَّا ۚ By no means بَلْ Nay هُوَ He ٱللَّهُ (is) Allah ٱلْعَزِيزُ the All-Mighty ٱلْحَكِيمُ the All-Wise ٢٧ (27)

Say, "Show me those whom you have attached to Him as partners. No! Rather, He [alone] is Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Wise."

٣٤:٢٨

وَمَآ And not أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ We have sent you إِلَّا except كَآفَّةًۭ comprehensively لِّلنَّاسِ to mankind بَشِيرًۭا (as) a giver of glad tidings وَنَذِيرًۭا and (as) a warner وَلَـٰكِنَّ But أَكْثَرَ most ٱلنَّاسِ [the] people لَا (do) not يَعْلَمُونَ know ٢٨ (28)

And We have not sent you except comprehensively to mankind as a bringer of good tidings and a warner. But most of the people do not know.

٣٤:٢٩

وَيَقُولُونَ And they say مَتَىٰ When هَـٰذَا (is) this ٱلْوَعْدُ promise إِن if كُنتُمْ you are صَـٰدِقِينَ truthful ٢٩ (29)

And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful?"

٣٤:٣٠

قُل Say لَّكُم For you مِّيعَادُ (is the) appointment يَوْمٍۢ (of) a Day لَّا not تَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ you can postpone عَنْهُ [of] it سَاعَةًۭ (for) an hour وَلَا and not تَسْتَقْدِمُونَ (can) you precede (it) ٣٠ (30)

Say, "For you is the appointment of a Day [when] you will not remain thereafter an hour, nor will you precede [it]."

٣٤:٣١

وَقَالَ And say ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve لَن Never will نُّؤْمِنَ we believe بِهَـٰذَا in this ٱلْقُرْءَانِ Quran وَلَا and not بِٱلَّذِى in (that) which بَيْنَ (was) before it يَدَيْهِ ۗ (was) before it وَلَوْ But if تَرَىٰٓ you (could) see إِذِ when ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ the wrongdoers مَوْقُوفُونَ will be made to stand عِندَ before رَبِّهِمْ their Lord يَرْجِعُ will throw back بَعْضُهُمْ some of them إِلَىٰ to بَعْضٍ others ٱلْقَوْلَ the word يَقُولُ Will say ٱلَّذِينَ those who ٱسْتُضْعِفُوا۟ were oppressed لِلَّذِينَ to those who ٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ were arrogant لَوْلَآ If not أَنتُمْ (for) you لَكُنَّا certainly we (would) have been مُؤْمِنِينَ believers ٣١ (31)

And those who disbelieve say, "We will never believe in this Qur’ān nor in that before it." But if you could see when the wrongdoers are made to stand before their Lord, refuting each others' words... Those who were oppressed will say to those who were arrogant, "If not for you, we would have been believers."

٣٤:٣٢

قَالَ Will say ٱلَّذِينَ those who ٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ were arrogant لِلَّذِينَ to those ٱسْتُضْعِفُوٓا۟ who were oppressed أَنَحْنُ Did we صَدَدْنَـٰكُمْ avert you عَنِ from ٱلْهُدَىٰ the guidance بَعْدَ after إِذْ when جَآءَكُم ۖ it had come to you بَلْ Nay كُنتُم you were مُّجْرِمِينَ criminals ٣٢ (32)

Those who were arrogant will say to those who were oppressed, "Did we avert you from guidance after it had come to you? Rather, you were criminals."

٣٤:٣٣

وَقَالَ And will say ٱلَّذِينَ those who ٱسْتُضْعِفُوا۟ were oppressed لِلَّذِينَ to those who ٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ were arrogant بَلْ Nay مَكْرُ (it was) a plot ٱلَّيْلِ (by) night وَٱلنَّهَارِ and (by) day إِذْ when تَأْمُرُونَنَآ you were ordering us أَن that نَّكْفُرَ we disbelieve بِٱللَّهِ in Allah وَنَجْعَلَ and we set up لَهُۥٓ for Him أَندَادًۭا ۚ equals وَأَسَرُّوا۟ But they will conceal ٱلنَّدَامَةَ the regret لَمَّا when رَأَوُا۟ they see ٱلْعَذَابَ the punishment وَجَعَلْنَا And We will put ٱلْأَغْلَـٰلَ shackles فِىٓ on أَعْنَاقِ (the) necks ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who كَفَرُوا۟ ۚ disbelieved هَلْ Will يُجْزَوْنَ they be recompensed إِلَّا except مَا (for) what كَانُوا۟ they used to يَعْمَلُونَ do ٣٣ (33)

Those who were oppressed will say to those who were arrogant, "Rather, [it was your] conspiracy of night and day when you were ordering us to disbelieve in Allāh and attribute to Him equals." But they will [all] confide regret when they see the punishment; and We will put shackles on the necks of those who disbelieved. Will they be recompensed except for what they used to do?

٣٤:٣٤

وَمَآ And not أَرْسَلْنَا We sent فِى to قَرْيَةٍۢ a town مِّن any نَّذِيرٍ warner إِلَّا but قَالَ said مُتْرَفُوهَآ its wealthy ones إِنَّا Indeed we بِمَآ in what أُرْسِلْتُم you have been sent بِهِۦ with كَـٰفِرُونَ (are) disbelievers ٣٤ (34)

And We did not send into a city any warner except that its affluent said, "Indeed we, in that with which you were sent, are disbelievers."

٣٤:٣٥

وَقَالُوا۟ And they say نَحْنُ We أَكْثَرُ (have) more أَمْوَٰلًۭا wealth وَأَوْلَـٰدًۭا and children وَمَا and not نَحْنُ we بِمُعَذَّبِينَ will be punished ٣٥ (35)

And they said, "We are more [than the believers] in wealth and children, and we are not to be punished."

٣٤:٣٦

قُلْ Say إِنَّ Indeed رَبِّى my Lord يَبْسُطُ extends ٱلرِّزْقَ the provision لِمَن for whom يَشَآءُ He wills وَيَقْدِرُ and restricts وَلَـٰكِنَّ but أَكْثَرَ most ٱلنَّاسِ [the] people لَا (do) not يَعْلَمُونَ know ٣٦ (36)

Say, "Indeed, my Lord extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it], but most of the people do not know."

٣٤:٣٧

وَمَآ And not أَمْوَٰلُكُمْ your wealth وَلَآ and not أَوْلَـٰدُكُم your children بِٱلَّتِى [that] تُقَرِّبُكُمْ will bring you close عِندَنَا to Us زُلْفَىٰٓ (in) position إِلَّا but مَنْ whoever ءَامَنَ believes وَعَمِلَ and does صَـٰلِحًۭا righteousness فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those لَهُمْ for them جَزَآءُ (will be) reward ٱلضِّعْفِ two-fold بِمَا for what عَمِلُوا۟ they did وَهُمْ and they فِى (will be) in ٱلْغُرُفَـٰتِ the high dwellings ءَامِنُونَ secure ٣٧ (37)

And it is not your wealth or your children that bring you nearer to Us in position, but it is [by being] one who has believed and done righteousness. For them there will be the double reward for what they did, and they will be in the upper chambers [of Paradise], safe [and secure].

٣٤:٣٨

وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who يَسْعَوْنَ strive فِىٓ against ءَايَـٰتِنَا Our Verses مُعَـٰجِزِينَ (to) cause failure أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those فِى into ٱلْعَذَابِ the punishment مُحْضَرُونَ (will be) brought ٣٨ (38)

And the ones who strive against Our verses to cause [them] failure - those will be brought into the punishment [to remain].

٣٤:٣٩

قُلْ Say إِنَّ Indeed رَبِّى my Lord يَبْسُطُ extends ٱلرِّزْقَ the provision لِمَن for whom يَشَآءُ He wills مِنْ of عِبَادِهِۦ His slaves وَيَقْدِرُ and restricts لَهُۥ ۚ for him وَمَآ But what أَنفَقْتُم you spend مِّن of شَىْءٍۢ anything فَهُوَ then He يُخْلِفُهُۥ ۖ will compensate it وَهُوَ and He خَيْرُ (is the) Best ٱلرَّٰزِقِينَ (of) the Providers ٣٩ (39)

Say, "Indeed, my Lord extends provision for whom He wills of His servants and restricts [it] for him. But whatever thing you spend [in His cause] - He will compensate it; and He is the best of providers."

٣٤:٤٠

وَيَوْمَ And (the) Day يَحْشُرُهُمْ He will gather them جَمِيعًۭا all ثُمَّ then يَقُولُ He will say لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ to the Angels أَهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ Were these you إِيَّاكُمْ Were these you كَانُوا۟ they were يَعْبُدُونَ worshipping ٤٠ (40)

And [mention] the Day when He will gather them all and then say to the angels, "Did these [people] used to worship you?"

٣٤:٤١

قَالُوا۟ They will say سُبْحَـٰنَكَ Glory be to You أَنتَ You وَلِيُّنَا (are) our Protector مِن not them دُونِهِم ۖ not them بَلْ Nay كَانُوا۟ they used يَعْبُدُونَ (to) worship ٱلْجِنَّ ۖ the jinn أَكْثَرُهُم most of them بِهِم in them مُّؤْمِنُونَ (were) believers ٤١ (41)

They will say, "Exalted are You! You, [O Allāh], are our benefactor excluding [i.e., not] them. Rather, they used to worship the jinn; most of them were believers in them."

٣٤:٤٢

فَٱلْيَوْمَ But today لَا not يَمْلِكُ possess power بَعْضُكُمْ some of you لِبَعْضٍۢ on others نَّفْعًۭا to benefit وَلَا and not ضَرًّۭا to harm وَنَقُولُ and We will say لِلَّذِينَ to those ظَلَمُوا۟ who wronged ذُوقُوا۟ Taste عَذَابَ (the) punishment ٱلنَّارِ (of) the Fire ٱلَّتِى which كُنتُم you used بِهَا to [it] تُكَذِّبُونَ deny ٤٢ (42)

But today [i.e., the Day of Judgement] you do not hold for one another [the power of] benefit or harm, and We will say to those who wronged, "Taste the punishment of the Fire, which you used to deny."

٣٤:٤٣

وَإِذَا And when تُتْلَىٰ are recited عَلَيْهِمْ to them ءَايَـٰتُنَا Our Verses بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ clear قَالُوا۟ they say مَا Not هَـٰذَآ (is) this إِلَّا but رَجُلٌۭ a man يُرِيدُ who wishes أَن to يَصُدَّكُمْ hinder you عَمَّا from what كَانَ used يَعْبُدُ (to) worship ءَابَآؤُكُمْ your forefathers وَقَالُوا۟ And they say مَا Not هَـٰذَآ (is) this إِلَّآ except إِفْكٌۭ a lie مُّفْتَرًۭى ۚ invented وَقَالَ And said ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved لِلْحَقِّ about the truth لَمَّا when جَآءَهُمْ it came to them إِنْ Not هَـٰذَآ (is) this إِلَّا except سِحْرٌۭ a magic مُّبِينٌۭ obvious ٤٣ (43)

And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, they say, "This is not but a man who wishes to avert you from that which your fathers were worshipping." And they say, "This is not except a lie invented." And those who disbelieve say of the truth when it has come to them, "This is not but obvious magic."

٣٤:٤٤

وَمَآ And not ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم We (had) given them مِّن any كُتُبٍۢ Scriptures يَدْرُسُونَهَا ۖ which they could study وَمَآ and not أَرْسَلْنَآ We sent إِلَيْهِمْ to them قَبْلَكَ before you مِن any نَّذِيرٍۢ warner ٤٤ (44)

And We had not given them any scriptures which they could study, and We had not sent to them before you, [O Muḥammad], any warner.

٣٤:٤٥

وَكَذَّبَ And denied ٱلَّذِينَ those who مِن (were) before them قَبْلِهِمْ (were) before them وَمَا and not بَلَغُوا۟ they have attained مِعْشَارَ a tenth مَآ (of) what ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ We (had) given them فَكَذَّبُوا۟ But they denied رُسُلِى ۖ My Messengers فَكَيْفَ so how كَانَ was نَكِيرِ My rejection ٤٥ (45)

And those before them denied, and they [i.e., the people of Makkah] have not attained a tenth of what We had given them. But they [i.e., the former peoples] denied My messengers, so how [terrible] was My reproach.

٣٤:٤٦

۞ قُلْ Say إِنَّمَآ Only أَعِظُكُم I advise you بِوَٰحِدَةٍ ۖ for one (thing) أَن that تَقُومُوا۟ you stand لِلَّهِ for Allah مَثْنَىٰ (in) pairs وَفُرَٰدَىٰ and (as) individuals ثُمَّ then تَتَفَكَّرُوا۟ ۚ reflect مَا Not بِصَاحِبِكُم (is in) your companion مِّن any جِنَّةٍ ۚ madness إِنْ Not هُوَ he إِلَّا (is) except نَذِيرٌۭ a warner لَّكُم for you بَيْنَ before يَدَىْ before عَذَابٍۢ a punishment شَدِيدٍۢ severe ٤٦ (46)

Say, "I only advise you of one [thing] - that you stand for Allāh, [seeking truth] in pairs and individually, and then give thought." There is not in your companion any madness. He is only a warner to you before a severe punishment.

٣٤:٤٧

قُلْ Say مَا Not سَأَلْتُكُم I ask you مِّنْ for أَجْرٍۢ any payment فَهُوَ but it (is) لَكُمْ ۖ for you إِنْ Not أَجْرِىَ (is) my payment إِلَّا but عَلَى from ٱللَّهِ ۖ Allah وَهُوَ And He عَلَىٰ (is) over كُلِّ all شَىْءٍۢ things شَهِيدٌۭ a Witness ٤٧ (47)

Say, "Whatever payment I might have asked of you - it is yours. My payment is only from Allāh, and He is, over all things, Witness."

٣٤:٤٨

قُلْ Say إِنَّ Indeed رَبِّى my Lord يَقْذِفُ projects بِٱلْحَقِّ the truth عَلَّـٰمُ (the) All-Knower ٱلْغُيُوبِ (of) the unseen ٤٨ (48)

Say, "Indeed, my Lord projects the truth, Knower of the unseen."

٣٤:٤٩

قُلْ Say جَآءَ Has come ٱلْحَقُّ the truth وَمَا and not يُبْدِئُ (can) originate ٱلْبَـٰطِلُ the falsehood وَمَا and not يُعِيدُ repeat ٤٩ (49)

Say, "The truth has come, and falsehood can neither begin [anything] nor repeat [it]."1

٣٤:٥٠

قُلْ Say إِن If ضَلَلْتُ I err فَإِنَّمَآ then only أَضِلُّ I will err عَلَىٰ against نَفْسِى ۖ myself وَإِنِ But if ٱهْتَدَيْتُ I am guided فَبِمَا then it is by what يُوحِىٓ reveals إِلَىَّ to me رَبِّىٓ ۚ my Lord إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He سَمِيعٌۭ (is) All-Hearer قَرِيبٌۭ Ever-Near ٥٠ (50)

Say, "If I should err, I would only err against myself. But if I am guided, it is by what my Lord reveals to me. Indeed, He is Hearing and near."

٣٤:٥١

وَلَوْ And if تَرَىٰٓ you (could) see إِذْ when فَزِعُوا۟ they will be terrified فَلَا but (there will be) no فَوْتَ escape وَأُخِذُوا۟ and they will be seized مِن from مَّكَانٍۢ a place قَرِيبٍۢ near ٥١ (51)

And if you could see when they are terrified but there is no escape, and they will be seized from a place nearby.

٣٤:٥٢

وَقَالُوٓا۟ And they will say ءَامَنَّا We believe بِهِۦ in it وَأَنَّىٰ But how لَهُمُ for them ٱلتَّنَاوُشُ (will be) the receiving مِن from مَّكَانٍۭ a place بَعِيدٍۢ far off ٥٢ (52)

And they will [then] say, "We believe in it!" But how for them will be the taking [of faith] from a place far away?

٣٤:٥٣

وَقَدْ And certainly كَفَرُوا۟ they disbelieved بِهِۦ in it مِن before قَبْلُ ۖ before وَيَقْذِفُونَ And they utter conjectures بِٱلْغَيْبِ about the unseen مِن from مَّكَانٍۭ a place بَعِيدٍۢ far off ٥٣ (53)

And they had already disbelieved in it before and would assault the unseen from a place far away.

٣٤:٥٤

وَحِيلَ And a barrier will be placed بَيْنَهُمْ between them وَبَيْنَ and between مَا what يَشْتَهُونَ they desire كَمَا as فُعِلَ was done بِأَشْيَاعِهِم with their kind مِّن before قَبْلُ ۚ before إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they كَانُوا۟ were فِى in شَكٍّۢ doubt مُّرِيبٍۭ disquieting ٥٤ (54)

And prevention will be placed between them and what they desire, as was done with their kind before. Indeed, they were in disquieting doubt [i.e., denial].
