بسملة

بِسْمِIn (the) nameٱللَّهِ(of) Allahٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِthe Most Graciousٱلرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

٣٣:١

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO ProphetٱلنَّبِىُّO ProphetٱتَّقِFearٱللَّهَAllahوَلَاand (do) notتُطِعِobeyٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَthe disbelieversوَٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ ۗand the hypocritesإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahكَانَisعَلِيمًاAll-KnowerحَكِيمًۭاAll-Wise١

O Prophet, fear Allāh and do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites. Indeed, Allāh is ever Knowing and Wise.

٣٣:٢

وَٱتَّبِعْAnd followمَاwhatيُوحَىٰٓis inspiredإِلَيْكَto youمِنfromرَّبِّكَ ۚyour LordإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahكَانَisبِمَاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou doخَبِيرًۭاAll-Aware٢

And follow that which is revealed to you from your Lord. Indeed Allāh is ever, of what you do, Aware.

٣٣:٣

وَتَوَكَّلْAnd put your trustعَلَىinٱللَّهِ ۚAllahوَكَفَىٰAnd Allah is sufficientبِٱللَّهِAnd Allah is sufficientوَكِيلًۭا(as) Disposer of affairs٣

And rely upon Allāh; and sufficient is Allāh as Disposer of affairs.

٣٣:٤

مَّاNotجَعَلَAllah (has) madeٱللَّهُAllah (has) madeلِرَجُلٍۢfor any manمِّن[of]قَلْبَيْنِtwo heartsفِىinجَوْفِهِۦ ۚhis interiorوَمَاAnd notجَعَلَHe (has) madeأَزْوَٰجَكُمُyour wivesٱلَّـٰٓـِٔىwhomتُظَـٰهِرُونَyou declare unlawfulمِنْهُنَّ[of them]أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ ۚ(as) your mothersوَمَاAnd notجَعَلَHe has madeأَدْعِيَآءَكُمْyour adopted sonsأَبْنَآءَكُمْ ۚyour sonsذَٰلِكُمْThatقَوْلُكُم(is) your sayingبِأَفْوَٰهِكُمْ ۖby your mouthsوَٱللَّهُbut Allahيَقُولُsaysٱلْحَقَّthe truthوَهُوَand Heيَهْدِىguidesٱلسَّبِيلَ(to) the Way٤

Allāh has not made for a man two hearts in his interior. And He has not made your wives whom you declare unlawful your mothers. And He has not made your claimed [i.e., adopted] sons your [true] sons. That is [merely] your saying by your mouths, but Allāh says the truth, and He guides to the [right] way.

٣٣:٥

ٱدْعُوهُمْCall themلِـَٔابَآئِهِمْby their fathersهُوَitأَقْسَطُ(is) more justعِندَnearٱللَّهِ ۚAllahفَإِنBut ifلَّمْnotتَعْلَمُوٓا۟you knowءَابَآءَهُمْtheir fathers فَإِخْوَٰنُكُمْthen (they are) your brothersفِىinٱلدِّينِ[the] religionوَمَوَٰلِيكُمْ ۚand your friendsوَلَيْسَBut not isعَلَيْكُمْupon youجُنَاحٌۭany blameفِيمَآin whatأَخْطَأْتُمyou made a mistakeبِهِۦin itوَلَـٰكِنbutمَّاwhatتَعَمَّدَتْintendedقُلُوبُكُمْ ۚyour heartsوَكَانَAnd AllahٱللَّهُAnd Allahغَفُورًۭا(is) Oft-ForgivingرَّحِيمًاMost Merciful٥

Call them by [the names of] their fathers; it is more just in the sight of Allāh. But if you do not know their fathers - then they are [still] your brothers in religion and those entrusted to you. And there is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred but [only for] what your hearts intended. And ever is Allāh Forgiving and Merciful.

٣٣:٦

ٱلنَّبِىُّThe Prophetأَوْلَىٰ(is) closerبِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَto the believersمِنْthanأَنفُسِهِمْ ۖtheir own selvesوَأَزْوَٰجُهُۥٓand his wivesأُمَّهَـٰتُهُمْ ۗ(are) their mothersوَأُو۟لُوا۟And possessorsٱلْأَرْحَامِ(of) relationshipsبَعْضُهُمْsome of themأَوْلَىٰ(are) closerبِبَعْضٍۢto anotherفِىinكِتَـٰبِ(the) Decreeٱللَّهِ(of) Allahمِنَthanٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersوَٱلْمُهَـٰجِرِينَand the emigrantsإِلَّآexceptأَنthatتَفْعَلُوٓا۟you doإِلَىٰٓtoأَوْلِيَآئِكُمyour friendsمَّعْرُوفًۭا ۚa kindnessكَانَThat isذَٰلِكَThat isفِىinٱلْكِتَـٰبِthe Bookمَسْطُورًۭاwritten٦

The Prophet is more worthy of the believers than themselves, and his wives are [in the position of] their mothers. And those of [blood] relationship are more entitled [to inheritance] in the decree of Allāh than the [other] believers and the emigrants, except that you may do to your close associates a kindness [through bequest]. That was in the Book inscribed.

٣٣:٧

وَإِذْAnd whenأَخَذْنَاWe tookمِنَfromٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَthe Prophetsمِيثَـٰقَهُمْtheir Covenantوَمِنكَand from youوَمِنand fromنُّوحٍۢNuhوَإِبْرَٰهِيمَand Ibrahimوَمُوسَىٰand Musaوَعِيسَىand Isaٱبْنِsonمَرْيَمَ ۖ(of) MaryamوَأَخَذْنَاAnd We tookمِنْهُمfrom themمِّيثَـٰقًاa covenantغَلِيظًۭاstrong٧

And [mention, O Muḥammad], when We took from the prophets their covenant and from you and from Noah and Abraham and Moses and Jesus, the son of Mary; and We took from them a solemn covenant

٣٣:٨

لِّيَسْـَٔلَThat He may askٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَthe truthfulعَنaboutصِدْقِهِمْ ۚtheir truthوَأَعَدَّAnd He has preparedلِلْكَـٰفِرِينَfor the disbelieversعَذَابًاa punishmentأَلِيمًۭاpainful٨

That He may question the truthful about their truth. And He has prepared for the disbelievers a painful punishment.

٣٣:٩

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believeٱذْكُرُوا۟Rememberنِعْمَةَ(the) Favorٱللَّهِ(of) Allahعَلَيْكُمْupon youإِذْwhenجَآءَتْكُمْcame to youجُنُودٌۭ(the) hostsفَأَرْسَلْنَاand We sentعَلَيْهِمْupon themرِيحًۭاa windوَجُنُودًۭاand hostsلَّمْnotتَرَوْهَا ۚyou (could) see themوَكَانَAnd Allah isٱللَّهُAnd Allah isبِمَاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou doبَصِيرًاAll-Seer٩

O you who have believed, remember the favor of Allāh upon you when armies came to [attack] you and We sent upon them a wind and armies [of angels] you did not see. And ever is Allāh, of what you do, Seeing.

٣٣:١٠

إِذْWhenجَآءُوكُمthey came upon youمِّنfromفَوْقِكُمْabove youوَمِنْand fromأَسْفَلَbelowمِنكُمْyouوَإِذْand whenزَاغَتِgrew wildٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُthe eyesوَبَلَغَتِand reachedٱلْقُلُوبُthe heartsٱلْحَنَاجِرَthe throatsوَتَظُنُّونَand you assumedبِٱللَّهِabout Allahٱلظُّنُونَا۠the assumptions١٠

[Remember] when they came at you from above you and from below you, and when eyes shifted [in fear], and hearts reached the throats, and you assumed about Allāh [various] assumptions.

٣٣:١١

هُنَالِكَThere ٱبْتُلِىَwere triedٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَthe believersوَزُلْزِلُوا۟and shakenزِلْزَالًۭا(with a) shakeشَدِيدًۭاsevere١١

There the believers were tested and shaken with a severe shaking.

٣٣:١٢

وَإِذْAnd whenيَقُولُsaidٱلْمُنَـٰفِقُونَthe hypocritesوَٱلَّذِينَand thoseفِىinقُلُوبِهِمtheir heartsمَّرَضٌۭ(was) a diseaseمَّاNotوَعَدَنَاAllah promised usٱللَّهُAllah promised usوَرَسُولُهُۥٓand His messengerإِلَّاexceptغُرُورًۭاdelusion١٢

And [remember] when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is disease said, "Allāh and His Messenger did not promise us except delusion,"

٣٣:١٣

وَإِذْAnd whenقَالَتsaidطَّآئِفَةٌۭa partyمِّنْهُمْof themيَـٰٓأَهْلَO Peopleيَثْرِبَ(of) YathribلَاNoمُقَامَstandلَكُمْfor youفَٱرْجِعُوا۟ ۚso returnوَيَسْتَـْٔذِنُAnd asked permissionفَرِيقٌۭa groupمِّنْهُمُof themٱلنَّبِىَّ(from) the ProphetيَقُولُونَsayingإِنَّIndeedبُيُوتَنَاour housesعَوْرَةٌۭ(are) exposedوَمَاand notهِىَtheyبِعَوْرَةٍ ۖ(were) exposedإِنNotيُرِيدُونَthey wishedإِلَّاbutفِرَارًۭاto flee١٣

And when a faction of them said, "O people of Yathrib, there is no stability for you [here], so return [home]." And a party of them asked permission of the Prophet, saying, "Indeed, our houses are exposed [i.e., unprotected]," while they were not exposed. They did not intend except to flee.

٣٣:١٤

وَلَوْAnd ifدُخِلَتْhad been enteredعَلَيْهِمupon themمِّنْfromأَقْطَارِهَاall its sidesثُمَّthenسُئِلُوا۟they had been askedٱلْفِتْنَةَthe treacheryلَـَٔاتَوْهَاthey (would) have certainly done itوَمَاand notتَلَبَّثُوا۟they (would) have hesitatedبِهَآover itإِلَّاexceptيَسِيرًۭاa little١٤

And if they had been entered upon from all its [surrounding] regions and fitnah [i.e., disbelief] had been demanded of them, they would have done it and not hesitated over it except briefly.

٣٣:١٥

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyكَانُوا۟they hadعَـٰهَدُوا۟promisedٱللَّهَAllahمِنbeforeقَبْلُbeforeلَاnotيُوَلُّونَthey would turnٱلْأَدْبَـٰرَ ۚtheir backsوَكَانَAnd isعَهْدُ(the) promiseٱللَّهِ(to) Allahمَسْـُٔولًۭاto be questioned١٥

And they had already promised Allāh before not to turn their backs [i.e., flee]. And ever is the promise to Allāh [that about which one will be] questioned.

٣٣:١٦

قُلSayلَّنNeverيَنفَعَكُمُwill benefit youٱلْفِرَارُthe fleeingإِنifفَرَرْتُمyou fleeمِّنَfromٱلْمَوْتِdeathأَوِorٱلْقَتْلِkillingوَإِذًۭاand thenلَّاnotتُمَتَّعُونَyou will be allowed to enjoyإِلَّاexceptقَلِيلًۭاa little١٦

Say, [O Muḥammad], "Never will fleeing benefit you if you should flee from death or killing; and then [if you did], you would not be given enjoyment [of life] except for a little."

٣٣:١٧

قُلْSayمَنWhoذَا(is) it thatٱلَّذِى(is) it thatيَعْصِمُكُم(can) protect youمِّنَfromٱللَّهِAllahإِنْIfأَرَادَHe intendsبِكُمْfor youسُوٓءًاany harmأَوْorأَرَادَHe intendsبِكُمْfor youرَحْمَةًۭ ۚa mercyوَلَاAnd notيَجِدُونَthey will findلَهُمfor themمِّنbesidesدُونِbesidesٱللَّهِAllahوَلِيًّۭاany protectorوَلَاand notنَصِيرًۭاany helper١٧

Say, "Who is it that can protect you from Allāh if He intends for you an ill or intends for you a mercy?" And they will not find for themselves besides Allāh any protector or any helper.

٣٣:١٨

۞ قَدْVerilyيَعْلَمُAllah knowsٱللَّهُAllah knowsٱلْمُعَوِّقِينَthose who hinderمِنكُمْamong youوَٱلْقَآئِلِينَand those who sayلِإِخْوَٰنِهِمْto their brothersهَلُمَّComeإِلَيْنَا ۖto usوَلَاand notيَأْتُونَthey comeٱلْبَأْسَ(to) the battleإِلَّاexceptقَلِيلًاa few١٨

Already Allāh knows the hinderers among you and those [hypocrites] who say to their brothers, "Come to us,"2 and do not go to battle, except for a few,

٣٣:١٩

أَشِحَّةًMiserlyعَلَيْكُمْ ۖtowards youفَإِذَاBut whenجَآءَcomesٱلْخَوْفُthe fearرَأَيْتَهُمْyou see themيَنظُرُونَlookingإِلَيْكَat youتَدُورُrevolvingأَعْيُنُهُمْtheir eyesكَٱلَّذِىlike one whoيُغْشَىٰfaintsعَلَيْهِfaintsمِنَfromٱلْمَوْتِ ۖ[the] deathفَإِذَاBut whenذَهَبَdepartsٱلْخَوْفُthe fearسَلَقُوكُمthey smite youبِأَلْسِنَةٍwith tonguesحِدَادٍsharpأَشِحَّةًmiserlyعَلَىtowardsٱلْخَيْرِ ۚthe goodأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَThose لَمْnotيُؤْمِنُوا۟they have believedفَأَحْبَطَso Allah made worthlessٱللَّهُso Allah made worthlessأَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ ۚtheir deedsوَكَانَAnd isذَٰلِكَthatعَلَىforٱللَّهِAllahيَسِيرًۭاeasy١٩

Indisposed toward you. And when fear comes, you see them looking at you, their eyes revolving like one being overcome by death. But when fear departs, they lash you with sharp tongues, indisposed toward [any] good. Those have not believed, so Allāh has rendered their deeds worthless, and ever is that, for Allāh, easy.

٣٣:٢٠

يَحْسَبُونَThey thinkٱلْأَحْزَابَthe confederatesلَمْ(have) notيَذْهَبُوا۟ ۖwithdrawnوَإِنAnd ifيَأْتِ(should) comeٱلْأَحْزَابُthe confederatesيَوَدُّوا۟they would wishلَوْifأَنَّهُمthat they (were)بَادُونَliving in (the) desertفِىamongٱلْأَعْرَابِthe Bedouinsيَسْـَٔلُونَaskingعَنْaboutأَنۢبَآئِكُمْ ۖyour newsوَلَوْAnd ifكَانُوا۟they wereفِيكُمamong youمَّاnotقَـٰتَلُوٓا۟they would fightإِلَّاexceptقَلِيلًۭاa little٢٠

They think the companies have not [yet] withdrawn. And if the companies should come [again], they would wish they were in the desert among the bedouins, inquiring [from afar] about your news. And if they should be among you, they would not fight except for a little.

٣٣:٢١

لَّقَدْCertainlyكَانَisلَكُمْfor youفِىinرَسُولِ(the) Messengerٱللَّهِ(of) Allahأُسْوَةٌan excellent exampleحَسَنَةٌۭan excellent exampleلِّمَنfor (one) whoكَانَhasيَرْجُوا۟hopeٱللَّهَ(in) Allahوَٱلْيَوْمَand the Dayٱلْـَٔاخِرَthe Lastوَذَكَرَand remembersٱللَّهَAllahكَثِيرًۭاmuch٢١

There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allāh an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allāh and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allāh often.

٣٣:٢٢

وَلَمَّاAnd whenرَءَاsawٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَthe believersٱلْأَحْزَابَthe confederatesقَالُوا۟they saidهَـٰذَاThisمَا(is) whatوَعَدَنَاAllah promised usٱللَّهُAllah promised usوَرَسُولُهُۥand His Messengerوَصَدَقَand Allah spoke the truthٱللَّهُand Allah spoke the truthوَرَسُولُهُۥ ۚand His MessengerوَمَاAnd notزَادَهُمْit increased themإِلَّآexceptإِيمَـٰنًۭا(in) faithوَتَسْلِيمًۭاand submission٢٢

And when the believers saw the companies, they said, "This is what Allāh and His Messenger had promised us, and Allāh and His Messenger spoke the truth." And it increased them only in faith and acceptance.

٣٣:٢٣

مِّنَAmongٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersرِجَالٌۭ(are) menصَدَقُوا۟(who) have been trueمَا(to) whatعَـٰهَدُوا۟they promised Allahٱللَّهَthey promised Allahعَلَيْهِ ۖ[on it]فَمِنْهُمAnd among themمَّن(is he) whoقَضَىٰhas fulfilledنَحْبَهُۥhis vowوَمِنْهُمand among themمَّن(is he) whoيَنتَظِرُ ۖawaitsوَمَاAnd notبَدَّلُوا۟they alterتَبْدِيلًۭا(by) any alteration ٢٣

Among the believers are men true to what they promised Allāh. Among them is he who has fulfilled his vow [to the death], and among them is he who awaits [his chance]. And they did not alter [the terms of their commitment] by any alteration -

٣٣:٢٤

لِّيَجْزِىَThat Allah may rewardٱللَّهُThat Allah may rewardٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَthe truthfulبِصِدْقِهِمْfor their truthوَيُعَذِّبَand punishٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَthe hypocritesإِنifشَآءَHe willsأَوْorيَتُوبَturn in mercyعَلَيْهِمْ ۚto themإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahكَانَisغَفُورًۭاOft-ForgivingرَّحِيمًۭاMost Merciful٢٤

That Allāh may reward the truthful for their truth and punish the hypocrites if He wills or accept their repentance. Indeed, Allāh is ever Forgiving and Merciful.

٣٣:٢٥

وَرَدَّAnd Allah turned backٱللَّهُAnd Allah turned backٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelievedبِغَيْظِهِمْin their rageلَمْnotيَنَالُوا۟they obtainedخَيْرًۭا ۚany goodوَكَفَىAnd sufficient isٱللَّهُAllahٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ(for) the believersٱلْقِتَالَ ۚ(in) the battleوَكَانَand Allah isٱللَّهُand Allah isقَوِيًّاAll-StrongعَزِيزًۭاAll-Mighty٢٥

And Allāh repelled those who disbelieved, in their rage, not having obtained any good. And sufficient was Allāh for the believers in battle, and ever is Allāh Powerful and Exalted in Might.

٣٣:٢٦

وَأَنزَلَAnd He brought downٱلَّذِينَthose whoظَـٰهَرُوهُمbacked themمِّنْamongأَهْلِ(the) Peopleٱلْكِتَـٰبِ(of) the Scriptureمِنfromصَيَاصِيهِمْtheir fortressesوَقَذَفَand castفِىintoقُلُوبِهِمُtheir heartsٱلرُّعْبَ[the] terrorفَرِيقًۭاa groupتَقْتُلُونَyou killedوَتَأْسِرُونَand you took captiveفَرِيقًۭاa group٢٦

And He brought down those who supported them among the People of the Scripture from their fortresses and cast terror into their hearts [so that] a party [i.e., their men] you killed, and you took captive a party [i.e., the women and children].

٣٣:٢٧

وَأَوْرَثَكُمْAnd He caused you to inheritأَرْضَهُمْtheir landوَدِيَـٰرَهُمْand their housesوَأَمْوَٰلَهُمْand their propertiesوَأَرْضًۭاand a landلَّمْnotتَطَـُٔوهَا ۚyou (had) troddenوَكَانَAnd Allah isٱللَّهُAnd Allah isعَلَىٰonكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍۢthingقَدِيرًۭاAll-Powerful٢٧

And He caused you to inherit their land and their homes and their properties and a land which you have not trodden. And ever is Allāh, over all things, competent.

٣٣:٢٨

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO ProphetٱلنَّبِىُّO ProphetقُلSayلِّأَزْوَٰجِكَto your wivesإِنIfكُنتُنَّyouتُرِدْنَdesireٱلْحَيَوٰةَthe lifeٱلدُّنْيَا(of) the worldوَزِينَتَهَاand its adornmentفَتَعَالَيْنَthen comeأُمَتِّعْكُنَّI will provide for youوَأُسَرِّحْكُنَّand release youسَرَاحًۭا(with) a releaseجَمِيلًۭاgood٢٨

O Prophet, say to your wives, "If you should desire the worldly life and its adornment, then come, I will provide for you and give you a gracious release.

٣٣:٢٩

وَإِنBut ifكُنتُنَّyouتُرِدْنَdesireٱللَّهَAllahوَرَسُولَهُۥand His Messengerوَٱلدَّارَand the Homeٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ(of) the Hereafterفَإِنَّthen indeedٱللَّهَAllahأَعَدَّhas preparedلِلْمُحْسِنَـٰتِfor the good-doersمِنكُنَّamong youأَجْرًاa rewardعَظِيمًۭاgreat٢٩

But if you should desire Allāh and His Messenger and the home of the Hereafter - then indeed, Allāh has prepared for the doers of good among you a great reward."

٣٣:٣٠

يَـٰنِسَآءَO wivesٱلنَّبِىِّ(of) the ProphetمَنWhoeverيَأْتِcommitsمِنكُنَّfrom youبِفَـٰحِشَةٍۢimmoralityمُّبَيِّنَةٍۢclearيُضَـٰعَفْwill be doubledلَهَاfor herٱلْعَذَابُthe punishmentضِعْفَيْنِ ۚtwo foldوَكَانَAnd that isذَٰلِكَAnd that isعَلَىforٱللَّهِAllahيَسِيرًۭاeasy٣٠

O wives of the Prophet, whoever of you should commit a clear immorality - for her the punishment would be doubled two fold, and ever is that, for Allāh, easy.

٣٣:٣١

۞ وَمَنAnd whoeverيَقْنُتْis obedientمِنكُنَّamong youلِلَّهِto Allahوَرَسُولِهِۦand His Messengerوَتَعْمَلْand doesصَـٰلِحًۭاrighteousnessنُّؤْتِهَآWe will give herأَجْرَهَاher rewardمَرَّتَيْنِtwiceوَأَعْتَدْنَاand We have preparedلَهَاfor herرِزْقًۭاa provisionكَرِيمًۭاnoble٣١

And whoever of you devoutly obeys Allāh and His Messenger and does righteousness - We will give her her reward twice; and We have prepared for her a noble provision.

٣٣:٣٢

يَـٰنِسَآءَO wivesٱلنَّبِىِّ(of) the ProphetلَسْتُنَّYou are notكَأَحَدٍۢlike anyoneمِّنَamongٱلنِّسَآءِ ۚthe womenإِنِIfٱتَّقَيْتُنَّyou fear (Allah)فَلَاthen (do) notتَخْضَعْنَbe softبِٱلْقَوْلِin speechفَيَطْمَعَlest should be moved with desireٱلَّذِىhe whoفِىinقَلْبِهِۦhis heartمَرَضٌۭ(is) a diseaseوَقُلْنَbut sayقَوْلًۭاa wordمَّعْرُوفًۭاappropriate٣٢

O wives of the Prophet, you are not like anyone among women. If you fear Allāh, then do not be soft in speech [to men], lest he in whose heart is disease should covet, but speak with appropriate speech.

٣٣:٣٣

وَقَرْنَAnd stayفِىinبُيُوتِكُنَّyour housesوَلَاand (do) notتَبَرَّجْنَdisplay yourselvesتَبَرُّجَ(as was the) displayٱلْجَـٰهِلِيَّةِ(of the times of) ignoranceٱلْأُولَىٰ ۖthe formerوَأَقِمْنَAnd establishٱلصَّلَوٰةَthe prayerوَءَاتِينَand giveٱلزَّكَوٰةَzakahوَأَطِعْنَand obeyٱللَّهَAllahوَرَسُولَهُۥٓ ۚand His MessengerإِنَّمَاOnlyيُرِيدُAllah wishesٱللَّهُAllah wishesلِيُذْهِبَto removeعَنكُمُfrom youٱلرِّجْسَthe impurityأَهْلَ(O) Peopleٱلْبَيْتِ(of) the HouseوَيُطَهِّرَكُمْAnd to purify youتَطْهِيرًۭا(with thorough) purification٣٣

And abide in your houses and do not display yourselves as [was] the display of the former times of ignorance. And establish prayer and give zakāh and obey Allāh and His Messenger. Allāh intends only to remove from you the impurity [of sin], O people of the [Prophet's] household, and to purify you with [extensive] purification.

٣٣:٣٤

وَٱذْكُرْنَAnd rememberمَاwhatيُتْلَىٰis recitedفِىinبُيُوتِكُنَّyour housesمِنْofءَايَـٰتِ(the) Versesٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَٱلْحِكْمَةِ ۚand the wisdomإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahكَانَisلَطِيفًاAll-SubtleخَبِيرًاAll-Aware٣٤

And remember what is recited in your houses of the verses of Allāh and wisdom. Indeed, Allāh is ever Subtle and Aware.

٣٣:٣٥

إِنَّIndeedٱلْمُسْلِمِينَthe Muslim menوَٱلْمُسْلِمَـٰتِand the Muslim womenوَٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَand the believing menوَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِand the believing womenوَٱلْقَـٰنِتِينَand the obedient menوَٱلْقَـٰنِتَـٰتِand the obedient womenوَٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَand the truthful menوَٱلصَّـٰدِقَـٰتِand the truthful womenوَٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَand the patient menوَٱلصَّـٰبِرَٰتِand the patient womenوَٱلْخَـٰشِعِينَand the humble menوَٱلْخَـٰشِعَـٰتِand the humble womenوَٱلْمُتَصَدِّقِينَand the men who give charityوَٱلْمُتَصَدِّقَـٰتِand the women who give charityوَٱلصَّـٰٓئِمِينَand the men who fastوَٱلصَّـٰٓئِمَـٰتِand the women who fastوَٱلْحَـٰفِظِينَand the men who guardفُرُوجَهُمْtheir chastityوَٱلْحَـٰفِظَـٰتِand the women who guard (it)وَٱلذَّٰكِرِينَand the men who rememberٱللَّهَAllahكَثِيرًۭاmuchوَٱلذَّٰكِرَٰتِand the women who rememberأَعَدَّAllah has preparedٱللَّهُAllah has preparedلَهُمfor themمَّغْفِرَةًۭforgivenessوَأَجْرًاand a rewardعَظِيمًۭاgreat٣٥

Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and believing women, the obedient men and obedient women, the truthful men and truthful women, the patient men and patient women, the humble men and humble women, the charitable men and charitable women, the fasting men and fasting women, the men who guard their private parts and the women who do so, and the men who remember Allāh often and the women who do so - for them Allāh has prepared forgiveness and a great reward.

٣٣:٣٦

وَمَاAnd notكَانَ(it) isلِمُؤْمِنٍۢfor a believing manوَلَاand notمُؤْمِنَةٍ(for) a believing womanإِذَاwhenقَضَىAllah has decidedٱللَّهُAllah has decidedوَرَسُولُهُۥٓand His Messengerأَمْرًاa matterأَنthatيَكُونَ(there) should beلَهُمُfor themٱلْخِيَرَةُ(any) choiceمِنْaboutأَمْرِهِمْ ۗtheir affairوَمَنAnd whoeverيَعْصِdisobeysٱللَّهَAllahوَرَسُولَهُۥand His Messengerفَقَدْcertainlyضَلَّhe (has) strayedضَلَـٰلًۭا(into) errorمُّبِينًۭاclear٣٦

It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allāh and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair. And whoever disobeys Allāh and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error.

٣٣:٣٧

وَإِذْAnd whenتَقُولُyou saidلِلَّذِىٓto the oneأَنْعَمَAllah bestowed favorٱللَّهُAllah bestowed favorعَلَيْهِon himوَأَنْعَمْتَand you bestowed favorعَلَيْهِon himأَمْسِكْKeepعَلَيْكَto yourselfزَوْجَكَyour wifeوَٱتَّقِand fearٱللَّهَAllahوَتُخْفِىBut you concealedفِىwithinنَفْسِكَyourselfمَاwhatٱللَّهُAllahمُبْدِيهِ(was to) discloseوَتَخْشَىAnd you fearٱلنَّاسَthe peopleوَٱللَّهُwhile Allahأَحَقُّhas more rightأَنthatتَخْشَىٰهُ ۖyou (should) fear HimفَلَمَّاSo whenقَضَىٰendedزَيْدٌۭZaidمِّنْهَاfrom herوَطَرًۭاnecessary (formalities)زَوَّجْنَـٰكَهَاWe married her to youلِكَىْso thatلَاnotيَكُونَthere beعَلَىonٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersحَرَجٌۭany discomfortفِىٓconcerningأَزْوَٰجِthe wivesأَدْعِيَآئِهِمْ(of) their adopted sonsإِذَاwhenقَضَوْا۟they have endedمِنْهُنَّfrom themوَطَرًۭا ۚnecessary (formalities)وَكَانَAnd isأَمْرُ(the) Commandٱللَّهِ(of) Allahمَفْعُولًۭاaccomplished٣٧

And [remember, O Muḥammad], when you said to the one on whom Allāh bestowed favor and you bestowed favor, "Keep your wife and fear Allāh," while you concealed within yourself that which Allāh is to disclose. And you feared the people, while Allāh has more right that you fear Him. So when Zayd had no longer any need for her, We married her to you in order that there not be upon the believers any discomfort [i.e., guilt] concerning the wives of their claimed [i.e., adopted] sons when they no longer have need of them. And ever is the command [i.e., decree] of Allāh accomplished.

٣٣:٣٨

مَّاNotكَانَ(there can) beعَلَىuponٱلنَّبِىِّthe Prophetمِنْanyحَرَجٍۢdiscomfortفِيمَاin whatفَرَضَAllah has imposedٱللَّهُAllah has imposedلَهُۥ ۖon himسُنَّةَ(That is the) Wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahفِىconcerningٱلَّذِينَthose whoخَلَوْا۟passed awayمِنbeforeقَبْلُ ۚbeforeوَكَانَAnd isأَمْرُ(the) Commandٱللَّهِ(of) Allahقَدَرًۭاa decreeمَّقْدُورًاdestined٣٨

There is not to be upon the Prophet any discomfort concerning that which Allāh has imposed upon him. [This is] the established way of Allāh with those [prophets] who have passed on before. And ever is the command of Allāh a destiny decreed.

٣٣:٣٩

ٱلَّذِينَThose whoيُبَلِّغُونَconveyرِسَـٰلَـٰتِ(the) Messagesٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَيَخْشَوْنَهُۥand fear Himوَلَاand (do) notيَخْشَوْنَfearأَحَدًاanyoneإِلَّاexceptٱللَّهَ ۗAllahوَكَفَىٰAnd sufficient is AllahبِٱللَّهِAnd sufficient is Allahحَسِيبًۭا(as) a Reckoner٣٩

[Allāh praises] those who convey the messages of Allāh and fear Him and do not fear anyone but Allāh. And sufficient is Allāh as Accountant.

٣٣:٤٠

مَّاNotكَانَisمُحَمَّدٌMuhammadأَبَآ(the) fatherأَحَدٍۢ(of) anyoneمِّنofرِّجَالِكُمْyour menوَلَـٰكِنbutرَّسُولَ(he is the) Messengerٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَخَاتَمَand Sealٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ ۗ(of) the ProphetsوَكَانَAnd Allah isٱللَّهُAnd Allah isبِكُلِّof everyشَىْءٍthingعَلِيمًۭاAll-Knower٤٠

Muḥammad is not the father of [any] one of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of Allāh and seal [i.e., last] of the prophets. And ever is Allāh, of all things, Knowing.

٣٣:٤١

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO you who believeٱلَّذِينَO you who believeءَامَنُوا۟O you who believeٱذْكُرُوا۟RememberٱللَّهَAllahذِكْرًۭا(with) remembranceكَثِيرًۭاmuch٤١

O you who have believed, remember Allāh with much remembrance

٣٣:٤٢

وَسَبِّحُوهُAnd glorify Himبُكْرَةًۭmorningوَأَصِيلًاand evening٤٢

And exalt Him morning and afternoon.

٣٣:٤٣

هُوَHeٱلَّذِى(is) the One Whoيُصَلِّىsends His blessingsعَلَيْكُمْupon youوَمَلَـٰٓئِكَتُهُۥand His Angelsلِيُخْرِجَكُمso that He may bring you outمِّنَfromٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِthe darkness[es]إِلَىtoٱلنُّورِ ۚthe lightوَكَانَAnd He isبِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَto the believersرَحِيمًۭاMerciful٤٣

It is He who confers blessing upon you, and His angels [ask Him to do so] that He may bring you out from darknesses into the light. And ever is He, to the believers, Merciful.

٣٣:٤٤

تَحِيَّتُهُمْTheir greetingsيَوْمَ(on the) Dayيَلْقَوْنَهُۥthey will meet Himسَلَـٰمٌۭ ۚ(will be), "Peaceوَأَعَدَّand He has preparedلَهُمْfor themأَجْرًۭاa rewardكَرِيمًۭاnoble٤٤

Their greeting the Day they meet Him will be, "Peace." And He has prepared for them a noble reward.

٣٣:٤٥

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO ProphetٱلنَّبِىُّO ProphetإِنَّآIndeed, Weأَرْسَلْنَـٰكَhave sent youشَـٰهِدًۭا(as) a witnessوَمُبَشِّرًۭاand a bearer of glad tidingsوَنَذِيرًۭاand (as) a warner٤٥

O Prophet, indeed We have sent you as a witness and a bringer of good tidings and a warner

٣٣:٤٦

وَدَاعِيًاAnd as one who invitesإِلَىtoٱللَّهِAllahبِإِذْنِهِۦby His permissionوَسِرَاجًۭاand (as) a lampمُّنِيرًۭاilluminating٤٦

And one who invites to Allāh, by His permission, and an illuminating lamp.

٣٣:٤٧

وَبَشِّرِAnd give glad tidingsٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ(to) the believersبِأَنَّthatلَهُمfor themمِّنَ(is) fromٱللَّهِAllahفَضْلًۭاa Bountyكَبِيرًۭاgreat٤٧

And give good tidings to the believers that they will have from Allāh great bounty.

٣٣:٤٨

وَلَاAnd (do) notتُطِعِobeyٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَthe disbelieversوَٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَand the hypocritesوَدَعْand disregardأَذَىٰهُمْtheir harmوَتَوَكَّلْand put your trustعَلَىinٱللَّهِ ۚAllahوَكَفَىٰAnd sufficient is AllahبِٱللَّهِAnd sufficient is Allahوَكِيلًۭا(as) a Trustee٤٨

And do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites and disregard their annoyance, and rely upon Allāh. And sufficient is Allāh as Disposer of affairs.

٣٣:٤٩

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO you who believeٱلَّذِينَO you who believeءَامَنُوٓا۟O you who believeإِذَاWhenنَكَحْتُمُyou marryٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِbelieving womenثُمَّand thenطَلَّقْتُمُوهُنَّdivorce themمِنbeforeقَبْلِbeforeأَن[that]تَمَسُّوهُنَّyou have touched themفَمَاthen notلَكُمْfor youعَلَيْهِنَّon themمِنْanyعِدَّةٍۢwaiting periodتَعْتَدُّونَهَا ۖ(to) count concerning themفَمَتِّعُوهُنَّSo provide for themوَسَرِّحُوهُنَّand release themسَرَاحًۭا(with) a releaseجَمِيلًۭاgood٤٩

O you who have believed, when you marry believing women and then divorce them before you have touched them [i.e., consummated the marriage], then there is not for you any waiting period to count concerning them. So provide for them and give them a gracious release.

٣٣:٥٠

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO ProphetٱلنَّبِىُّO ProphetإِنَّآIndeed, Weأَحْلَلْنَا[We] have made lawfulلَكَto youأَزْوَٰجَكَyour wivesٱلَّـٰتِىٓ(to) whomءَاتَيْتَyou have givenأُجُورَهُنَّtheir bridal moneyوَمَاand whomمَلَكَتْyou rightfully possessيَمِينُكَyou rightfully possessمِمَّآfrom those (whom)أَفَآءَAllah has givenٱللَّهُAllah has givenعَلَيْكَto youوَبَنَاتِand (the) daughtersعَمِّكَ(of) your paternal unclesوَبَنَاتِand (the) daughtersعَمَّـٰتِكَ(of) your paternal auntsوَبَنَاتِand (the) daughtersخَالِكَ(of) your maternal unclesوَبَنَاتِand (the) daughtersخَـٰلَـٰتِكَ(of) your maternal auntsٱلَّـٰتِىwhoهَاجَرْنَemigratedمَعَكَwith youوَٱمْرَأَةًۭand a womanمُّؤْمِنَةًbelievingإِنifوَهَبَتْshe givesنَفْسَهَاherselfلِلنَّبِىِّto the Prophetإِنْifأَرَادَwishesٱلنَّبِىُّthe Prophetأَنtoيَسْتَنكِحَهَاmarry her خَالِصَةًۭonlyلَّكَfor youمِنexcludingدُونِexcludingٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۗthe believersقَدْCertainlyعَلِمْنَاWe knowمَاwhatفَرَضْنَاWe have made obligatoryعَلَيْهِمْupon themفِىٓconcerningأَزْوَٰجِهِمْtheir wivesوَمَاand whomمَلَكَتْthey rightfully possessأَيْمَـٰنُهُمْthey rightfully possessلِكَيْلَاthat notيَكُونَshould beعَلَيْكَon youحَرَجٌۭ ۗany discomfortوَكَانَAnd Allah isٱللَّهُAnd Allah isغَفُورًۭاOft-ForgivingرَّحِيمًۭاMost Merciful٥٠

O Prophet, indeed We have made lawful to you your wives to whom you have given their due compensation and those your right hand possesses from what Allāh has returned to you [of captives] and the daughters of your paternal uncles and the daughters of your paternal aunts and the daughters of your maternal uncles and the daughters of your maternal aunts who emigrated with you and a believing woman if she gives herself to the Prophet [and] if the Prophet wishes to marry her; [this is] only for you, excluding the [other] believers. We certainly know what We have made obligatory upon them concerning their wives and those their right hands possess, [but this is for you] in order that there will be upon you no discomfort [i.e., difficulty]. And ever is Allāh Forgiving and Merciful.

٣٣:٥١

۞ تُرْجِىYou may deferمَنwhomتَشَآءُyou willمِنْهُنَّof themوَتُـْٔوِىٓor you may takeإِلَيْكَto yourselfمَنwhomتَشَآءُ ۖyou willوَمَنِAnd whoeverٱبْتَغَيْتَyou desireمِمَّنْof those whomعَزَلْتَyou (had) set aside فَلَاthen (there is) noجُنَاحَblameعَلَيْكَ ۚupon youذَٰلِكَThatأَدْنَىٰٓ(is) more suitableأَنthatتَقَرَّmay be cooledأَعْيُنُهُنَّtheir eyesوَلَاand notيَحْزَنَّthey grieveوَيَرْضَيْنَand they may be pleasedبِمَآwith whatءَاتَيْتَهُنَّyou have given them كُلُّهُنَّ ۚall of themوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahيَعْلَمُknowsمَاwhatفِى(is) inقُلُوبِكُمْ ۚyour heartsوَكَانَAnd Allah isٱللَّهُAnd Allah isعَلِيمًاAll-KnowerحَلِيمًۭاMost Forbearing٥١

You, [O Muḥammad], may put aside whom you will of them or take to yourself whom you will. And any that you desire of those [wives] from whom you had [temporarily] separated - there is no blame upon you [in returning her]. That is more suitable that they should be content and not grieve and that they should be satisfied with what you have given them - all of them. And Allāh knows what is in your hearts. And ever is Allāh Knowing and Forbearing.

٣٣:٥٢

لَّا(It is) notيَحِلُّlawfulلَكَfor youٱلنِّسَآءُ(to marry) womenمِنۢafter (this)بَعْدُafter (this)وَلَآand notأَنtoتَبَدَّلَexchangeبِهِنَّthemمِنْforأَزْوَٰجٍۢ(other) wivesوَلَوْeven ifأَعْجَبَكَpleases youحُسْنُهُنَّtheir beautyإِلَّاexceptمَاwhomمَلَكَتْyou rightfully possessيَمِينُكَ ۗyou rightfully possessوَكَانَAnd Allah isٱللَّهُAnd Allah isعَلَىٰoverكُلِّallشَىْءٍۢthingsرَّقِيبًۭاan Observer٥٢

Not lawful to you, [O Muḥammad], are [any additional] women after [this], nor [is it] for you to exchange them for [other] wives, even if their beauty were to please you, except what your right hand possesses. And ever is Allāh, over all things, an Observer.

٣٣:٥٣

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO you who believeٱلَّذِينَO you who believeءَامَنُوا۟O you who believeلَا(Do) notتَدْخُلُوا۟enterبُيُوتَ(the) housesٱلنَّبِىِّ(of) the Prophetإِلَّآexceptأَنwhenيُؤْذَنَpermission is givenلَكُمْto youإِلَىٰforطَعَامٍa mealغَيْرَwithoutنَـٰظِرِينَawaitingإِنَىٰهُits preparationوَلَـٰكِنْButإِذَاwhenدُعِيتُمْyou are invitedفَٱدْخُلُوا۟then enterفَإِذَاand whenطَعِمْتُمْyou have eatenفَٱنتَشِرُوا۟then disperseوَلَاand notمُسْتَـْٔنِسِينَseeking to remainلِحَدِيثٍ ۚfor a conversationإِنَّIndeedذَٰلِكُمْthatكَانَwasيُؤْذِىtroublingٱلنَّبِىَّthe Prophetفَيَسْتَحْىِۦand he is shyمِنكُمْ ۖof (dismissing) youوَٱللَّهُBut Allahلَاis not shyيَسْتَحْىِۦis not shyمِنَofٱلْحَقِّ ۚthe truthوَإِذَاAnd whenسَأَلْتُمُوهُنَّyou ask themمَتَـٰعًۭا(for) anythingفَسْـَٔلُوهُنَّthen ask themمِنfromوَرَآءِbehindحِجَابٍۢ ۚa screenذَٰلِكُمْThatأَطْهَرُ(is) purerلِقُلُوبِكُمْfor your heartsوَقُلُوبِهِنَّ ۚand their heartsوَمَاAnd notكَانَisلَكُمْfor youأَنthatتُؤْذُوا۟you troubleرَسُولَ(the) Messengerٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَلَآand notأَنthatتَنكِحُوٓا۟you should marryأَزْوَٰجَهُۥhis wivesمِنۢafter himبَعْدِهِۦٓafter himأَبَدًا ۚeverإِنَّIndeedذَٰلِكُمْthatكَانَisعِندَnearٱللَّهِAllahعَظِيمًاan enormity٥٣

O you who have believed, do not enter the houses of the Prophet except when you are permitted for a meal, without awaiting its readiness. But when you are invited, then enter; and when you have eaten, disperse without seeking to remain for conversation. Indeed, that [behavior] was troubling the Prophet, and he is shy of [dismissing] you. But Allāh is not shy of the truth. And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them from behind a partition. That is purer for your hearts and their hearts. And it is not [conceivable or lawful] for you to harm the Messenger of Allāh or to marry his wives after him, ever. Indeed, that would be in the sight of Allāh an enormity.

٣٣:٥٤

إِنWhetherتُبْدُوا۟you revealشَيْـًٔاa thingأَوْorتُخْفُوهُconceal itفَإِنَّindeedٱللَّهَAllahكَانَisبِكُلِّof allشَىْءٍthingsعَلِيمًۭاAll-Knower٥٤

Whether you reveal a thing or conceal it, indeed Allāh is ever, of all things, Knowing.

٣٣:٥٥

لَّا(There is) noجُنَاحَblameعَلَيْهِنَّupon themفِىٓconcerningءَابَآئِهِنَّtheir fathersوَلَآand notأَبْنَآئِهِنَّtheir sonsوَلَآand notإِخْوَٰنِهِنَّtheir brothersوَلَآand notأَبْنَآءِsonsإِخْوَٰنِهِنَّ(of) their brothersوَلَآand notأَبْنَآءِsonsأَخَوَٰتِهِنَّ(of) their sistersوَلَاand notنِسَآئِهِنَّtheir womenوَلَاand notمَاwhatمَلَكَتْthey rightfully possessأَيْمَـٰنُهُنَّ ۗthey rightfully possessوَٱتَّقِينَAnd fearٱللَّهَ ۚAllahإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahكَانَisعَلَىٰoverكُلِّallشَىْءٍۢthingsشَهِيدًاa Witness٥٥

There is no blame upon them [i.e., women] concerning their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their brothers' sons or their sisters' sons or their women or those their right hands possess [i.e., slaves]. And fear Allāh. Indeed Allāh is ever, over all things, Witness.

٣٣:٥٦

إِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahوَمَلَـٰٓئِكَتَهُۥand His Angelsيُصَلُّونَsend blessingsعَلَىuponٱلنَّبِىِّ ۚthe ProphetيَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO you who believeٱلَّذِينَO you who believeءَامَنُوا۟O you who believeصَلُّوا۟Send blessingsعَلَيْهِon himوَسَلِّمُوا۟and greet himتَسْلِيمًا(with) greetings٥٦

Indeed, Allāh confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [Allāh to confer] blessing upon him and ask [Allāh to grant him] peace.

٣٣:٥٧

إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoيُؤْذُونَannoyٱللَّهَAllahوَرَسُولَهُۥand His MessengerلَعَنَهُمُAllah has cursed themٱللَّهُAllah has cursed themفِىinٱلدُّنْيَاthe worldوَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِand the Hereafterوَأَعَدَّand preparedلَهُمْfor themعَذَابًۭاa punishmentمُّهِينًۭاhumiliating٥٧

Indeed, those who abuse Allāh and His Messenger - Allāh has cursed them in this world and the Hereafter and prepared for them a humiliating punishment.

٣٣:٥٨

وَٱلَّذِينَAnd those whoيُؤْذُونَharmٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believing menوَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِand the believing womenبِغَيْرِfor other thanمَاwhatٱكْتَسَبُوا۟they have earnedفَقَدِthen certainlyٱحْتَمَلُوا۟they bearبُهْتَـٰنًۭاfalse accusationوَإِثْمًۭاand sinمُّبِينًۭاmanifest٥٨

And those who harm believing men and believing women for [something] other than what they have earned [i.e., deserved] have certainly borne upon themselves a slander and manifest sin.

٣٣:٥٩

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO ProphetٱلنَّبِىُّO ProphetقُلSayلِّأَزْوَٰجِكَto your wivesوَبَنَاتِكَand your daughtersوَنِسَآءِand (the) womenٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ(of) the believersيُدْنِينَto drawعَلَيْهِنَّover themselvesمِن[of]جَلَـٰبِيبِهِنَّ ۚtheir outer garmentsذَٰلِكَThatأَدْنَىٰٓ(is) more suitableأَنthatيُعْرَفْنَthey should be knownفَلَاand notيُؤْذَيْنَ ۗharmedوَكَانَAnd isٱللَّهُAllahغَفُورًۭاOft-ForgivingرَّحِيمًۭاMost Merciful٥٩

O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allāh Forgiving and Merciful.

٣٣:٦٠

۞ لَّئِنIfلَّمْ(do) notيَنتَهِceaseٱلْمُنَـٰفِقُونَthe hypocritesوَٱلَّذِينَand those whoفِىinقُلُوبِهِمtheir heartsمَّرَضٌۭ(is) a diseaseوَٱلْمُرْجِفُونَand those who spread rumorsفِىinٱلْمَدِينَةِthe cityلَنُغْرِيَنَّكَWe will let you overpower themبِهِمْWe will let you overpower themثُمَّthenلَاnotيُجَاوِرُونَكَthey will remain your neighborsفِيهَآthereinإِلَّاexceptقَلِيلًۭا(for) a little٦٠

If the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is disease and those who spread rumors in al-Madīnah do not cease, We will surely incite you against them; then they will not remain your neighbors therein except for a little,

٣٣:٦١

مَّلْعُونِينَ ۖAccursedأَيْنَمَاwhereverثُقِفُوٓا۟they are foundأُخِذُوا۟they are seizedوَقُتِّلُوا۟and massacred completelyتَقْتِيلًۭاand massacred completely٦١

Accursed wherever they are found, [being] seized and massacred completely.

٣٣:٦٢

سُنَّةَ(Such is the) Wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahفِىwithٱلَّذِينَthose whoخَلَوْا۟passed awayمِنbeforeقَبْلُ ۖbeforeوَلَنand neverتَجِدَyou will findلِسُنَّةِin (the) Wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahتَبْدِيلًۭاany change٦٢

[This is] the established way of Allāh with those who passed on before; and you will not find in the way of Allāh any change.

٣٣:٦٣

يَسْـَٔلُكَAsk youٱلنَّاسُthe peopleعَنِaboutٱلسَّاعَةِ ۖthe HourقُلْSayإِنَّمَاOnlyعِلْمُهَاits knowledgeعِندَ(is) withٱللَّهِ ۚAllahوَمَاAnd whatيُدْرِيكَwill make you knowلَعَلَّPerhapsٱلسَّاعَةَthe Hourتَكُونُisقَرِيبًاnear٦٣

People ask you concerning the Hour. Say, "Knowledge of it is only with Allāh. And what may make you perceive? Perhaps the Hour is near."

٣٣:٦٤

إِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahلَعَنَhas cursedٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَthe disbelieversوَأَعَدَّand has preparedلَهُمْfor themسَعِيرًاa Blaze٦٤

Indeed, Allāh has cursed the disbelievers and prepared for them a Blaze.

٣٣:٦٥

خَـٰلِدِينَAbidingفِيهَآthereinأَبَدًۭا ۖforeverلَّاnotيَجِدُونَthey will findوَلِيًّۭاany protectorوَلَاand notنَصِيرًۭاany helper٦٥

Abiding therein forever, they will not find a protector or a helper.

٣٣:٦٦

يَوْمَ(The) Dayتُقَلَّبُwill be turned aboutوُجُوهُهُمْtheir facesفِىinٱلنَّارِthe Fireيَقُولُونَthey will sayيَـٰلَيْتَنَآO we wishأَطَعْنَاwe (had) obeyedٱللَّهَAllahوَأَطَعْنَاand obeyedٱلرَّسُولَا۠the Messenger٦٦

The Day their faces will be turned about in the Fire, they will say, "How we wish we had obeyed Allāh and obeyed the Messenger."

٣٣:٦٧

وَقَالُوا۟And they will sayرَبَّنَآOur LordإِنَّآIndeed, weأَطَعْنَا[we] obeyedسَادَتَنَاour chiefsوَكُبَرَآءَنَاand our great menفَأَضَلُّونَاand they misled usٱلسَّبِيلَا۠(from) the Way٦٧

And they will say, "Our Lord, indeed we obeyed our masters and our dignitaries, and they led us astray from the [right] way.

٣٣:٦٨

رَبَّنَآOur LordءَاتِهِمْGive themضِعْفَيْنِdoubleمِنَ[of]ٱلْعَذَابِpunishmentوَٱلْعَنْهُمْand curse themلَعْنًۭا(with) a curseكَبِيرًۭاgreat٦٨

Our Lord, give them double the punishment and curse them with a great curse."

٣٣:٦٩

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO you who believeٱلَّذِينَO you who believeءَامَنُوا۟O you who believeلَا(Do) notتَكُونُوا۟beكَٱلَّذِينَlike those whoءَاذَوْا۟abusedمُوسَىٰMusaفَبَرَّأَهُthen Allah cleared himٱللَّهُthen Allah cleared himمِمَّاof whatقَالُوا۟ ۚthey saidوَكَانَAnd he wasعِندَnearٱللَّهِAllahوَجِيهًۭاhonorable٦٩

O you who have believed, be not like those who abused Moses; then Allāh cleared him of what they said. And he, in the sight of Allāh, was distinguished.

٣٣:٧٠

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO you who believeٱلَّذِينَO you who believeءَامَنُوا۟O you who believeٱتَّقُوا۟FearٱللَّهَAllahوَقُولُوا۟and speakقَوْلًۭاa wordسَدِيدًۭاright٧٠

O you who have believed, fear Allāh and speak words of appropriate justice.

٣٣:٧١

يُصْلِحْHe will amendلَكُمْfor youأَعْمَـٰلَكُمْyour deedsوَيَغْفِرْand forgiveلَكُمْfor youذُنُوبَكُمْ ۗyour sinsوَمَنAnd whoeverيُطِعِobeysٱللَّهَAllahوَرَسُولَهُۥand His Messengerفَقَدْcertainlyفَازَhas attainedفَوْزًاan attainmentعَظِيمًاgreat٧١

He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allāh and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.

٣٣:٧٢

إِنَّاIndeed, Weعَرَضْنَا[We] offeredٱلْأَمَانَةَthe Trustعَلَىtoٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِthe heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthوَٱلْجِبَالِand the mountainsفَأَبَيْنَbut they refusedأَنtoيَحْمِلْنَهَاbear itوَأَشْفَقْنَand they fearedمِنْهَاfrom itوَحَمَلَهَاbut bore itٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ ۖthe manإِنَّهُۥIndeed, heكَانَwasظَلُومًۭاunjustجَهُولًۭاignorant٧٢

Indeed, We offered the Trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, and they declined to bear it and feared it; but man [undertook to] bear it. Indeed, he was unjust and ignorant.

٣٣:٧٣

لِّيُعَذِّبَSo that Allah may punishٱللَّهُSo that Allah may punishٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَthe hypocrite menوَٱلْمُنَـٰفِقَـٰتِand the hypocrite womenوَٱلْمُشْرِكِينَand the polytheist menوَٱلْمُشْرِكَـٰتِand the polytheist womenوَيَتُوبَand Allah will turn (in Mercy)ٱللَّهُand Allah will turn (in Mercy)عَلَىtoٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believing menوَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ۗand the believing womenوَكَانَAnd Allah isٱللَّهُAnd Allah isغَفُورًۭاOft-ForgivingرَّحِيمًۢاMost Merciful٧٣

[It was] so that Allāh may punish the hypocrite men and hypocrite women and the men and women who associate others with Him and that Allāh may accept repentance from the believing men and believing women. And ever is Allāh Forgiving and Merciful.
