Bismillah
بِسْمِ In (the) name bis'mi
In (the) name
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
46:1
حمٓ Ha Meem hha-meem
Ha Meem
١ (1)
(1)
Ḥā, Meem.
46:2
تَنزِيلُ (The) revelation tanzīlu
(The) revelation
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book
مِنَ (is) from mina
(is) from
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
ٱلْعَزِيزِ the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzi
the All-Mighty
ٱلْحَكِيمِ the All-Wise l-ḥakīmi
the All-Wise
٢ (2)
(2)
The revelation of the Book is from Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
46:3
مَا Not
Not
خَلَقْنَا We created khalaqnā
We created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَ and the earth wal-arḍa
and the earth
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
بَيْنَهُمَآ (is) between both of them baynahumā
(is) between both of them
إِلَّا except illā
except
بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth bil-ḥaqi
in truth
وَأَجَلٍۢ and (for) a term wa-ajalin
and (for) a term
مُّسَمًّۭى ۚ appointed musamman
appointed
وَٱلَّذِينَ But those who wa-alladhīna
But those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
عَمَّآ from what ʿammā
from what
أُنذِرُوا۟ they are warned undhirū
they are warned
مُعْرِضُونَ (are) turning away muʿ'riḍūna
(are) turning away
٣ (3)
(3)
We did not create the heavens and earth and what is between them except in truth and [for] a specified term. But those who disbelieve, from that of which they are warned, are turning away.
46:4
قُلْ Say qul
Say
أَرَءَيْتُم Do you see ara-aytum
Do you see
مَّا what
what
تَدْعُونَ you call tadʿūna
you call
مِن besides min
besides
دُونِ besides dūni
besides
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
أَرُونِى Show me arūnī
Show me
مَاذَا what mādhā
what
خَلَقُوا۟ they have created khalaqū
they have created
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
أَمْ or am
or
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
شِرْكٌۭ (is) any share shir'kun
(is) any share
فِى in
in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ ۖ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
ٱئْتُونِى Bring me i'tūnī
Bring me
بِكِتَـٰبٍۢ a book bikitābin
a book
مِّن from min
from
قَبْلِ before qabli
before
هَـٰذَآ this hādhā
this
أَوْ or aw
or
أَثَـٰرَةٍۢ a trace athāratin
a trace
مِّنْ of min
of
عِلْمٍ knowledge ʿil'min
knowledge
إِن if in
if
كُنتُمْ you are kuntum
you are
صَـٰدِقِينَ truthful ṣādiqīna
truthful
٤ (4)
(4)
Say, [O Muḥammad], "Have you considered that which you invoke besides Allāh? Show me what they have created of the earth; or did they have partnership in [creation of] the heavens? Bring me a scripture [revealed] before this or a [remaining] trace of knowledge, if you should be truthful."
46:5
وَمَنْ And who waman
And who
أَضَلُّ (is) more astray aḍallu
(is) more astray
مِمَّن than (he) who mimman
than (he) who
يَدْعُوا۟ calls yadʿū
calls
مِن besides min
besides
دُونِ besides dūni
besides
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
مَن who man
who
لَّا will not respond
will not respond
يَسْتَجِيبُ will not respond yastajību
will not respond
لَهُۥٓ to him lahu
to him
إِلَىٰ until ilā
until
يَوْمِ (the) Day yawmi
(the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) Resurrection l-qiyāmati
(of) Resurrection
وَهُمْ and they wahum
and they
عَن of ʿan
of
دُعَآئِهِمْ their calls duʿāihim
their calls
غَـٰفِلُونَ (are) unaware ghāfilūna
(are) unaware
٥ (5)
(5)
And who is more astray than he who invokes besides Allāh those who will not respond to him until the Day of Resurrection [i.e., never], and they, of their invocation, are unaware.
46:6
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when
حُشِرَ are gathered ḥushira
are gathered
ٱلنَّاسُ the people l-nāsu
the people
كَانُوا۟ they will be kānū
they will be
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
أَعْدَآءًۭ enemies aʿdāan
enemies
وَكَانُوا۟ and they will be wakānū
and they will be
بِعِبَادَتِهِمْ of their worship biʿibādatihim
of their worship
كَـٰفِرِينَ deniers kāfirīna
deniers
٦ (6)
(6)
And when the people are gathered [that Day], they [who were invoked] will be enemies to them, and they will be deniers of their worship.
46:7
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when
تُتْلَىٰ are recited tut'lā
are recited
عَلَيْهِمْ to them ʿalayhim
to them
ءَايَـٰتُنَا Our Verses āyātunā
Our Verses
بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ clear bayyinātin
clear
قَالَ say qāla
say
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
لِلْحَقِّ of the truth lil'ḥaqqi
of the truth
لَمَّا when lammā
when
جَآءَهُمْ it comes to them jāahum
it comes to them
هَـٰذَا This hādhā
This
سِحْرٌۭ (is) a magic siḥ'run
(is) a magic
مُّبِينٌ clear mubīnun
clear
٧ (7)
(7)
And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, those who disbelieve say of the truth when it has come to them, "This is obvious magic."
46:8
أَمْ Or am
Or
يَقُولُونَ they say yaqūlūna
they say
ٱفْتَرَىٰهُ ۖ He has invented it if'tarāhu
He has invented it
قُلْ Say qul
Say
إِنِ If ini
If
ٱفْتَرَيْتُهُۥ I have invented it if'taraytuhu
I have invented it
فَلَا then not falā
then not
تَمْلِكُونَ you have power tamlikūna
you have power
لِى for me
for me
مِنَ against mina
against
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
شَيْـًٔا ۖ anything shayan
anything
هُوَ He huwa
He
أَعْلَمُ knows best aʿlamu
knows best
بِمَا of what bimā
of what
تُفِيضُونَ you utter tufīḍūna
you utter
فِيهِ ۖ concerning it fīhi
concerning it
كَفَىٰ Sufficient is He kafā
Sufficient is He
بِهِۦ Sufficient is He bihi
Sufficient is He
شَهِيدًۢا (as) a Witness shahīdan
(as) a Witness
بَيْنِى between me baynī
between me
وَبَيْنَكُمْ ۖ and between you wabaynakum
and between you
وَهُوَ and He wahuwa
and He
ٱلْغَفُورُ (is) the Oft-Forgiving l-ghafūru
(is) the Oft-Forgiving
ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmu
the Most Merciful
٨ (8)
(8)
Or do they say, "He has invented it"? Say, "If I have invented it, you will not possess for me [the power of protection] from Allāh at all. He is most knowing of that in which you are involved. Sufficient is He as Witness between me and you, and He is the Forgiving, the Merciful."
46:9
قُلْ Say qul
Say
مَا Not
Not
كُنتُ I am kuntu
I am
بِدْعًۭا a new (one) bid'ʿan
a new (one)
مِّنَ among mina
among
ٱلرُّسُلِ the Messengers l-rusuli
the Messengers
وَمَآ and not wamā
and not
أَدْرِى I know adrī
I know
مَا what
what
يُفْعَلُ will be done yuf'ʿalu
will be done
بِى with me
with me
وَلَا and not walā
and not
بِكُمْ ۖ with you bikum
with you
إِنْ Not in
Not
أَتَّبِعُ I follow attabiʿu
I follow
إِلَّا but illā
but
مَا what
what
يُوحَىٰٓ is revealed yūḥā
is revealed
إِلَىَّ to me ilayya
to me
وَمَآ and not wamā
and not
أَنَا۠ I am anā
I am
إِلَّا but illā
but
نَذِيرٌۭ a warner nadhīrun
a warner
مُّبِينٌۭ clear mubīnun
clear
٩ (9)
(9)
Say, "I am not something original among the messengers, nor do I know what will be done with me or with you. I only follow that which is revealed to me, and I am not but a clear warner."
46:10
قُلْ Say qul
Say
أَرَءَيْتُمْ Do you see ara-aytum
Do you see
إِن if in
if
كَانَ it is kāna
it is
مِنْ from Allah min
from Allah
عِندِ from Allah ʿindi
from Allah
ٱللَّهِ from Allah l-lahi
from Allah
وَكَفَرْتُم and you disbelieve wakafartum
and you disbelieve
بِهِۦ in it bihi
in it
وَشَهِدَ and testifies washahida
and testifies
شَاهِدٌۭ a witness shāhidun
a witness
مِّنۢ from min
from
بَنِىٓ (the) Children of Israel banī
(the) Children of Israel
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ (the) Children of Israel is'rāīla
(the) Children of Israel
عَلَىٰ to ʿalā
to
مِثْلِهِۦ (the) like thereof mith'lihi
(the) like thereof
فَـَٔامَنَ then he believed faāmana
then he believed
وَٱسْتَكْبَرْتُمْ ۖ while you are arrogant wa-is'takbartum
while you are arrogant
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
لَا (does) not
(does) not
يَهْدِى guide yahdī
guide
ٱلْقَوْمَ the people l-qawma
the people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
١٠ (10)
(10)
Say, "Have you considered: if it [i.e., the Qur’ān] was from Allāh, and you disbelieved in it while a witness from the Children of Israel has testified to something similar and believed while you were arrogant...?"2 Indeed, Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people.
46:11
وَقَالَ And say waqāla
And say
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
لِلَّذِينَ of those who lilladhīna
of those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
لَوْ If law
If
كَانَ it had been kāna
it had been
خَيْرًۭا good khayran
good
مَّا not
not
سَبَقُونَآ they (would) have preceded us sabaqūnā
they (would) have preceded us
إِلَيْهِ ۚ to it ilayhi
to it
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when
لَمْ not lam
not
يَهْتَدُوا۟ they (are) guided yahtadū
they (are) guided
بِهِۦ by it bihi
by it
فَسَيَقُولُونَ they say fasayaqūlūna
they say
هَـٰذَآ This hādhā
This
إِفْكٌۭ (is) a lie if'kun
(is) a lie
قَدِيمٌۭ ancient qadīmun
ancient
١١ (11)
(11)
And those who disbelieve say of those who believe, "If it had [truly] been good, they would not have preceded us to it." And when they are not guided by it, they will say, "This is an ancient falsehood."
46:12
وَمِن And before it wamin
And before it
قَبْلِهِۦ And before it qablihi
And before it
كِتَـٰبُ (was the) Scripture kitābu
(was the) Scripture
مُوسَىٰٓ (of) Musa mūsā
(of) Musa
إِمَامًۭا (as) a guide imāman
(as) a guide
وَرَحْمَةًۭ ۚ and a mercy waraḥmatan
and a mercy
وَهَـٰذَا And this wahādhā
And this
كِتَـٰبٌۭ (is) a Book kitābun
(is) a Book
مُّصَدِّقٌۭ confirming muṣaddiqun
confirming
لِّسَانًا (in) language lisānan
(in) language
عَرَبِيًّۭا Arabic ʿarabiyyan
Arabic
لِّيُنذِرَ to warn liyundhira
to warn
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ظَلَمُوا۟ do wrong ẓalamū
do wrong
وَبُشْرَىٰ and (as) glad tidings wabush'rā
and (as) glad tidings
لِلْمُحْسِنِينَ for the good-doers lil'muḥ'sinīna
for the good-doers
١٢ (12)
(12)
And before it was the scripture of Moses to lead and as a mercy. And this is a confirming Book in an Arabic tongue to warn those who have wronged and as good tidings to the doers of good.
46:13
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
قَالُوا۟ say qālū
say
رَبُّنَا Our Lord rabbunā
Our Lord
ٱللَّهُ (is) Allah l-lahu
(is) Allah
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
ٱسْتَقَـٰمُوا۟ remain firm is'taqāmū
remain firm
فَلَا then no falā
then no
خَوْفٌ fear khawfun
fear
عَلَيْهِمْ on them ʿalayhim
on them
وَلَا and not walā
and not
هُمْ they hum
they
يَحْزَنُونَ will grieve yaḥzanūna
will grieve
١٣ (13)
(13)
Indeed, those who have said, "Our Lord is Allāh," and then remained on a right course - there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.
46:14
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
أَصْحَـٰبُ (are the) companions aṣḥābu
(are the) companions
ٱلْجَنَّةِ (of) Paradise l-janati
(of) Paradise
خَـٰلِدِينَ abiding forever khālidīna
abiding forever
فِيهَا therein fīhā
therein
جَزَآءًۢ a reward jazāan
a reward
بِمَا for what bimā
for what
كَانُوا۟ they used to kānū
they used to
يَعْمَلُونَ do yaʿmalūna
do
١٤ (14)
(14)
Those are the companions of Paradise, abiding eternally therein as reward for what they used to do.
46:15
وَوَصَّيْنَا And We have enjoined wawaṣṣaynā
And We have enjoined
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ (on) man l-insāna
(on) man
بِوَٰلِدَيْهِ to his parents biwālidayhi
to his parents
إِحْسَـٰنًا ۖ kindness iḥ'sānan
kindness
حَمَلَتْهُ Carried him ḥamalathu
Carried him
أُمُّهُۥ his mother ummuhu
his mother
كُرْهًۭا (with) hardship kur'han
(with) hardship
وَوَضَعَتْهُ and gave birth to him wawaḍaʿathu
and gave birth to him
كُرْهًۭا ۖ (with) hardship kur'han
(with) hardship
وَحَمْلُهُۥ And (the) bearing of him waḥamluhu
And (the) bearing of him
وَفِصَـٰلُهُۥ and (the) weaning of him wafiṣāluhu
and (the) weaning of him
ثَلَـٰثُونَ (is) thirty thalāthūna
(is) thirty
شَهْرًا ۚ month(s) shahran
month(s)
حَتَّىٰٓ until ḥattā
until
إِذَا when idhā
when
بَلَغَ he reaches balagha
he reaches
أَشُدَّهُۥ his maturity ashuddahu
his maturity
وَبَلَغَ and reaches wabalagha
and reaches
أَرْبَعِينَ forty arbaʿīna
forty
سَنَةًۭ year(s) sanatan
year(s)
قَالَ he says qāla
he says
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
أَوْزِعْنِىٓ grant me (the) power awziʿ'nī
grant me (the) power
أَنْ that an
that
أَشْكُرَ I may be grateful ashkura
I may be grateful
نِعْمَتَكَ (for) Your favor niʿ'mataka
(for) Your favor
ٱلَّتِىٓ which allatī
which
أَنْعَمْتَ You have bestowed anʿamta
You have bestowed
عَلَىَّ upon me ʿalayya
upon me
وَعَلَىٰ and upon waʿalā
and upon
وَٰلِدَىَّ my parents wālidayya
my parents
وَأَنْ and that wa-an
and that
أَعْمَلَ I do aʿmala
I do
صَـٰلِحًۭا righteous (deeds) ṣāliḥan
righteous (deeds)
تَرْضَىٰهُ which please You tarḍāhu
which please You
وَأَصْلِحْ and make righteous wa-aṣliḥ
and make righteous
لِى for me
for me
فِى among
among
ذُرِّيَّتِىٓ ۖ my offspring dhurriyyatī
my offspring
إِنِّى indeed innī
indeed
تُبْتُ I turn tub'tu
I turn
إِلَيْكَ to You ilayka
to You
وَإِنِّى and indeed, I am wa-innī
and indeed, I am
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ those who submit l-mus'limīna
those who submit
١٥ (15)
(15)
And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and his gestation and weaning [period] is thirty months. [He grows] until, when he reaches maturity and reaches [the age of] forty years, he says, "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims."
46:16
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
ٱلَّذِينَ (are) the ones alladhīna
(are) the ones
نَتَقَبَّلُ We will accept nataqabbalu
We will accept
عَنْهُمْ from them ʿanhum
from them
أَحْسَنَ (the) best aḥsana
(the) best
مَا (of) what
(of) what
عَمِلُوا۟ they did ʿamilū
they did
وَنَتَجَاوَزُ and We will overlook wanatajāwazu
and We will overlook
عَن [from] ʿan
[from]
سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ their evil deeds sayyiātihim
their evil deeds
فِىٓ among
among
أَصْحَـٰبِ (the) companions aṣḥābi
(the) companions
ٱلْجَنَّةِ ۖ (of) Paradise l-janati
(of) Paradise
وَعْدَ A promise waʿda
A promise
ٱلصِّدْقِ true l-ṣid'qi
true
ٱلَّذِى which alladhī
which
كَانُوا۟ they were kānū
they were
يُوعَدُونَ promised yūʿadūna
promised
١٦ (16)
(16)
Those are the ones from whom We will accept the best of what they did and overlook their misdeeds, [their being] among the companions of Paradise. [That is] the promise of truth which they had been promised.
46:17
وَٱلَّذِى But the one who wa-alladhī
But the one who
قَالَ says qāla
says
لِوَٰلِدَيْهِ to his parents liwālidayhi
to his parents
أُفٍّۢ Uff uffin
Uff
لَّكُمَآ to both of you lakumā
to both of you
أَتَعِدَانِنِىٓ Do you promise me ataʿidāninī
Do you promise me
أَنْ that an
that
أُخْرَجَ I will be brought forth ukh'raja
I will be brought forth
وَقَدْ and have already passed away waqad
and have already passed away
خَلَتِ and have already passed away khalati
and have already passed away
ٱلْقُرُونُ the generations l-qurūnu
the generations
مِن before me min
before me
قَبْلِى before me qablī
before me
وَهُمَا And they both wahumā
And they both
يَسْتَغِيثَانِ seek help yastaghīthāni
seek help
ٱللَّهَ (of) Allah l-laha
(of) Allah
وَيْلَكَ Woe to you waylaka
Woe to you
ءَامِنْ Believe āmin
Believe
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
وَعْدَ (the) Promise waʿda
(the) Promise
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
حَقٌّۭ (is) true ḥaqqun
(is) true
فَيَقُولُ But he says fayaqūlu
But he says
مَا Not
Not
هَـٰذَآ (is) this hādhā
(is) this
إِلَّآ but illā
but
أَسَـٰطِيرُ (the) stories asāṭīru
(the) stories
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (of) the former (people) l-awalīna
(of) the former (people)
١٧ (17)
(17)
But one who says to his parents, "Uff to you; do you promise me that I will be brought forth [from the earth] when generations before me have already passed on [into oblivion]?" while they call to Allāh for help [and to their son], "Woe to you! Believe! Indeed, the promise of Allāh is truth." But he says, "This is not but legends of the former peoples" -
46:18
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
ٱلَّذِينَ (are) the ones alladhīna
(are) the ones
حَقَّ (has) proved true ḥaqqa
(has) proved true
عَلَيْهِمُ against them ʿalayhimu
against them
ٱلْقَوْلُ the word l-qawlu
the word
فِىٓ among
among
أُمَمٍۢ nations umamin
nations
قَدْ (that) already passed away qad
(that) already passed away
خَلَتْ (that) already passed away khalat
(that) already passed away
مِن before them min
before them
قَبْلِهِم before them qablihim
before them
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلْجِنِّ (the) jinn l-jini
(the) jinn
وَٱلْإِنسِ ۖ and the men wal-insi
and the men
إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they innahum
Indeed, they
كَانُوا۟ are kānū
are
خَـٰسِرِينَ (the) losers khāsirīna
(the) losers
١٨ (18)
(18)
Those are the ones upon whom the word [i.e., decree] has come into effect, [who will be] among nations which had passed on before them of jinn and men. Indeed, they [all] were losers.
46:19
وَلِكُلٍّۢ And for all walikullin
And for all
دَرَجَـٰتٌۭ (are) degrees darajātun
(are) degrees
مِّمَّا for what mimmā
for what
عَمِلُوا۟ ۖ they did ʿamilū
they did
وَلِيُوَفِّيَهُمْ and that He may fully compensate them waliyuwaffiyahum
and that He may fully compensate them
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ (for) their deeds aʿmālahum
(for) their deeds
وَهُمْ and they wahum
and they
لَا will not be wronged
will not be wronged
يُظْلَمُونَ will not be wronged yuẓ'lamūna
will not be wronged
١٩ (19)
(19)
And for all there are degrees [of reward and punishment] for what they have done, and [it is] so that He may fully compensate them for their deeds, and they will not be wronged.
46:20
وَيَوْمَ And (the) Day wayawma
And (the) Day
يُعْرَضُ will be exposed yuʿ'raḍu
will be exposed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved
عَلَى to ʿalā
to
ٱلنَّارِ the Fire l-nāri
the Fire
أَذْهَبْتُمْ You exhausted adhhabtum
You exhausted
طَيِّبَـٰتِكُمْ your good things ṭayyibātikum
your good things
فِى in
in
حَيَاتِكُمُ your life ḥayātikumu
your life
ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
وَٱسْتَمْتَعْتُم and you took your pleasures wa-is'tamtaʿtum
and you took your pleasures
بِهَا therein bihā
therein
فَٱلْيَوْمَ So today fal-yawma
So today
تُجْزَوْنَ you will be recompensed tuj'zawna
you will be recompensed
عَذَابَ (with) a punishment ʿadhāba
(with) a punishment
ٱلْهُونِ humiliating l-hūni
humiliating
بِمَا because bimā
because
كُنتُمْ you were kuntum
you were
تَسْتَكْبِرُونَ arrogant tastakbirūna
arrogant
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
بِغَيْرِ without bighayri
without
ٱلْحَقِّ [the] right l-ḥaqi
[the] right
وَبِمَا and because wabimā
and because
كُنتُمْ you were kuntum
you were
تَفْسُقُونَ defiantly disobedient tafsuqūna
defiantly disobedient
٢٠ (20)
(20)
And the Day those who disbelieved are exposed to the Fire [it will be said], "You exhausted your pleasures during your worldly life and enjoyed them, so this Day you will be awarded the punishment of [extreme] humiliation because you were arrogant upon the earth without right and because you were defiantly disobedient."
46:21
۞ وَٱذْكُرْ And mention wa-udh'kur
And mention
أَخَا (the) brother akhā
(the) brother
عَادٍ (of) Aad ʿādin
(of) Aad
إِذْ when idh
when
أَنذَرَ he warned andhara
he warned
قَوْمَهُۥ his people qawmahu
his people
بِٱلْأَحْقَافِ in the Al-Ahqaf bil-aḥqāfi
in the Al-Ahqaf
وَقَدْ and had already passed away waqad
and had already passed away
خَلَتِ and had already passed away khalati
and had already passed away
ٱلنُّذُرُ [the] warners l-nudhuru
[the] warners
مِنۢ before him min
before him
بَيْنِ before him bayni
before him
يَدَيْهِ before him yadayhi
before him
وَمِنْ and after him wamin
and after him
خَلْفِهِۦٓ and after him khalfihi
and after him
أَلَّا That not allā
That not
تَعْبُدُوٓا۟ you worship taʿbudū
you worship
إِلَّا except illā
except
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
إِنِّىٓ Indeed, I innī
Indeed, I
أَخَافُ [I] fear akhāfu
[I] fear
عَلَيْكُمْ for you ʿalaykum
for you
عَذَابَ a punishment ʿadhāba
a punishment
يَوْمٍ (of) a Day yawmin
(of) a Day
عَظِيمٍۢ Great ʿaẓīmin
Great
٢١ (21)
(21)
And mention, [O Muḥammad], the brother of ʿAad, when he warned his people in [the region of] al-Aḥqāf - and warners had already passed on before him and after him - [saying], "Do not worship except Allāh. Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day."2
46:22
قَالُوٓا۟ They said qālū
They said
أَجِئْتَنَا Have you come to us aji'tanā
Have you come to us
لِتَأْفِكَنَا to turn us away litafikanā
to turn us away
عَنْ from ʿan
from
ءَالِهَتِنَا our gods ālihatinā
our gods
فَأْتِنَا Then bring us fatinā
Then bring us
بِمَا what bimā
what
تَعِدُنَآ you threaten us taʿidunā
you threaten us
إِن if in
if
كُنتَ you are kunta
you are
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ the truthful l-ṣādiqīna
the truthful
٢٢ (22)
(22)
They said, "Have you come to delude us away from our gods? Then bring us what you promise us, if you should be of the truthful."
46:23
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
إِنَّمَا Only innamā
Only
ٱلْعِلْمُ the knowledge l-ʿil'mu
the knowledge
عِندَ (is) with Allah ʿinda
(is) with Allah
ٱللَّهِ (is) with Allah l-lahi
(is) with Allah
وَأُبَلِّغُكُم and I convey to you wa-uballighukum
and I convey to you
مَّآ what
what
أُرْسِلْتُ I am sent ur'sil'tu
I am sent
بِهِۦ with it bihi
with it
وَلَـٰكِنِّىٓ but walākinnī
but
أَرَىٰكُمْ I see you arākum
I see you
قَوْمًۭا a people qawman
a people
تَجْهَلُونَ ignorant tajhalūna
ignorant
٢٣ (23)
(23)
He said, "Knowledge [of its time] is only with Allāh, and I convey to you that with which I was sent; but I see you [to be] a people behaving ignorantly."
46:24
فَلَمَّا Then when falammā
Then when
رَأَوْهُ they saw it ra-awhu
they saw it
عَارِضًۭا (as) a cloud ʿāriḍan
(as) a cloud
مُّسْتَقْبِلَ approaching mus'taqbila
approaching
أَوْدِيَتِهِمْ their valleys awdiyatihim
their valleys
قَالُوا۟ they said qālū
they said
هَـٰذَا This hādhā
This
عَارِضٌۭ (is) a cloud ʿāriḍun
(is) a cloud
مُّمْطِرُنَا ۚ bringing us rain mum'ṭirunā
bringing us rain
بَلْ Nay bal
Nay
هُوَ it huwa
it
مَا (is) what
(is) what
ٱسْتَعْجَلْتُم you were asking it to be hastened is'taʿjaltum
you were asking it to be hastened
بِهِۦ ۖ you were asking it to be hastened bihi
you were asking it to be hastened
رِيحٌۭ a wind rīḥun
a wind
فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it
عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
أَلِيمٌۭ painful alīmun
painful
٢٤ (24)
(24)
And when they saw it as a cloud approaching their valleys, they said, "This is a cloud bringing us rain!" Rather, it is that for which you were impatient: a wind, within it a painful punishment,
46:25
تُدَمِّرُ Destroying tudammiru
Destroying
كُلَّ every kulla
every
شَىْءٍۭ thing shayin
thing
بِأَمْرِ by (the) command bi-amri
by (the) command
رَبِّهَا (of) its Lord rabbihā
(of) its Lord
فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ Then they became (such) fa-aṣbaḥū
Then they became (such)
لَا not
not
يُرَىٰٓ is seen yurā
is seen
إِلَّا except illā
except
مَسَـٰكِنُهُمْ ۚ their dwellings masākinuhum
their dwellings
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika
Thus
نَجْزِى We recompense najzī
We recompense
ٱلْقَوْمَ the people l-qawma
the people
ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ [the] criminals l-muj'rimīna
[the] criminals
٢٥ (25)
(25)
Destroying everything by command of its Lord. And they became so that nothing was seen [of them] except their dwellings. Thus do We recompense the criminal people.
46:26
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad
And certainly
مَكَّنَّـٰهُمْ We had established them makkannāhum
We had established them
فِيمَآ in what fīmā
in what
إِن not in
not
مَّكَّنَّـٰكُمْ We have established you makkannākum
We have established you
فِيهِ in it fīhi
in it
وَجَعَلْنَا and We made wajaʿalnā
and We made
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
سَمْعًۭا hearing samʿan
hearing
وَأَبْصَـٰرًۭا and vision wa-abṣāran
and vision
وَأَفْـِٔدَةًۭ and hearts wa-afidatan
and hearts
فَمَآ But not famā
But not
أَغْنَىٰ availed aghnā
availed
عَنْهُمْ them ʿanhum
them
سَمْعُهُمْ their hearing samʿuhum
their hearing
وَلَآ and not walā
and not
أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ their vision abṣāruhum
their vision
وَلَآ and not walā
and not
أَفْـِٔدَتُهُم their hearts afidatuhum
their hearts
مِّن any min
any
شَىْءٍ thing shayin
thing
إِذْ when idh
when
كَانُوا۟ they were kānū
they were
يَجْحَدُونَ rejecting yajḥadūna
rejecting
بِـَٔايَـٰتِ (the) Signs biāyāti
(the) Signs
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
وَحَاقَ and enveloped waḥāqa
and enveloped
بِهِم them bihim
them
مَّا what
what
كَانُوا۟ they used to kānū
they used to
بِهِۦ [at it] bihi
[at it]
يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ ridicule yastahziūna
ridicule
٢٦ (26)
(26)
And We had certainly established them in such as We have not established you, and We made for them hearing and vision and hearts [i.e., intellect]. But their hearing and vision and hearts availed them not from anything [of the punishment] when they were [continually] rejecting the signs of Allāh; and they were enveloped by what they used to ridicule.
46:27
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad
And certainly
أَهْلَكْنَا We destroyed ahlaknā
We destroyed
مَا what
what
حَوْلَكُم surrounds you ḥawlakum
surrounds you
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلْقُرَىٰ the towns l-qurā
the towns
وَصَرَّفْنَا and We have diversified waṣarrafnā
and We have diversified
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ the Signs l-āyāti
the Signs
لَعَلَّهُمْ that they may laʿallahum
that they may
يَرْجِعُونَ return yarjiʿūna
return
٢٧ (27)
(27)
And We have already destroyed what surrounds you of [those] cities, and We have diversified the signs [or verses] that perhaps they might return [from disbelief].
46:28
فَلَوْلَا Then why (did) not falawlā
Then why (did) not
نَصَرَهُمُ help them naṣarahumu
help them
ٱلَّذِينَ those whom alladhīna
those whom
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ they had taken ittakhadhū
they had taken
مِن besides min
besides
دُونِ besides dūni
besides
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
قُرْبَانًا gods as a way of approach qur'bānan
gods as a way of approach
ءَالِهَةًۢ ۖ gods as a way of approach ālihatan
gods as a way of approach
بَلْ Nay bal
Nay
ضَلُّوا۟ they were lost ḍallū
they were lost
عَنْهُمْ ۚ from them ʿanhum
from them
وَذَٰلِكَ And that wadhālika
And that
إِفْكُهُمْ (was) their falsehood if'kuhum
(was) their falsehood
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
كَانُوا۟ they were kānū
they were
يَفْتَرُونَ inventing yaftarūna
inventing
٢٨ (28)
(28)
Then why did those they took besides Allāh as deities by which to approach [Him]1 not aid them? But they had strayed [i.e., departed] from them. And that was their falsehood and what they were inventing.
46:29
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when
صَرَفْنَآ We directed ṣarafnā
We directed
إِلَيْكَ to you ilayka
to you
نَفَرًۭا a party nafaran
a party
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلْجِنِّ the jinn l-jini
the jinn
يَسْتَمِعُونَ listening yastamiʿūna
listening
ٱلْقُرْءَانَ (to) the Quran l-qur'āna
(to) the Quran
فَلَمَّا And when falammā
And when
حَضَرُوهُ they attended it ḥaḍarūhu
they attended it
قَالُوٓا۟ they said qālū
they said
أَنصِتُوا۟ ۖ Listen quietly anṣitū
Listen quietly
فَلَمَّا And when falammā
And when
قُضِىَ it was concluded quḍiya
it was concluded
وَلَّوْا۟ they turned back wallaw
they turned back
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
قَوْمِهِم their people qawmihim
their people
مُّنذِرِينَ (as) warners mundhirīna
(as) warners
٢٩ (29)
(29)
And [mention, O Muḥammad], when We directed to you a few of the jinn, listening to the Qur’ān. And when they attended it, they said, "Listen attentively." And when it was concluded, they went back to their people as warners.
46:30
قَالُوا۟ They said qālū
They said
يَـٰقَوْمَنَآ O our people yāqawmanā
O our people
إِنَّا Indeed, we innā
Indeed, we
سَمِعْنَا [we] have heard samiʿ'nā
[we] have heard
كِتَـٰبًا a Book kitāban
a Book
أُنزِلَ revealed unzila
revealed
مِنۢ after min
after
بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after
مُوسَىٰ Musa mūsā
Musa
مُصَدِّقًۭا confirming muṣaddiqan
confirming
لِّمَا what limā
what
بَيْنَ (was) before it bayna
(was) before it
يَدَيْهِ (was) before it yadayhi
(was) before it
يَهْدِىٓ guiding yahdī
guiding
إِلَى to ilā
to
ٱلْحَقِّ the truth l-ḥaqi
the truth
وَإِلَىٰ and to wa-ilā
and to
طَرِيقٍۢ a Path ṭarīqin
a Path
مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ Straight mus'taqīmin
Straight
٣٠ (30)
(30)
They said, "O our people, indeed we have heard a [recited] Book revealed after Moses confirming what was before it which guides to the truth and to a straight path.
46:31
يَـٰقَوْمَنَآ O our people yāqawmanā
O our people
أَجِيبُوا۟ Respond ajībū
Respond
دَاعِىَ (to the) caller dāʿiya
(to the) caller
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
وَءَامِنُوا۟ and believe waāminū
and believe
بِهِۦ in him bihi
in him
يَغْفِرْ He will forgive yaghfir
He will forgive
لَكُم for you lakum
for you
مِّن of min
of
ذُنُوبِكُمْ your sins dhunūbikum
your sins
وَيُجِرْكُم and will protect you wayujir'kum
and will protect you
مِّنْ from min
from
عَذَابٍ a punishment ʿadhābin
a punishment
أَلِيمٍۢ painful alīmin
painful
٣١ (31)
(31)
O our people, respond to the Caller [i.e., Messenger] of Allāh and believe in him; He [i.e., Allāh] will forgive for you your sins and protect you from a painful punishment.
46:32
وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever
لَّا (does) not
(does) not
يُجِبْ respond yujib
respond
دَاعِىَ (to the) caller dāʿiya
(to the) caller
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
فَلَيْسَ then not falaysa
then not
بِمُعْجِزٍۢ he can escape bimuʿ'jizin
he can escape
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
وَلَيْسَ and not walaysa
and not
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
مِن besides Him min
besides Him
دُونِهِۦٓ besides Him dūnihi
besides Him
أَوْلِيَآءُ ۚ protectors awliyāu
protectors
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
فِى (are) in
(are) in
ضَلَـٰلٍۢ error ḍalālin
error
مُّبِينٍ clear mubīnin
clear
٣٢ (32)
(32)
But he who does not respond to the Caller of Allāh will not cause failure [to Him] upon earth, and he will not have besides Him any protectors. Those are in manifest error."
46:33
أَوَلَمْ Do not awalam
Do not
يَرَوْا۟ they see yaraw
they see
أَنَّ that anna
that
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who alladhī
(is) the One Who
خَلَقَ created khalaqa
created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَ and the earth wal-arḍa
and the earth
وَلَمْ and (was) not walam
and (was) not
يَعْىَ tired yaʿya
tired
بِخَلْقِهِنَّ by their creation bikhalqihinna
by their creation
بِقَـٰدِرٍ (is) able biqādirin
(is) able
عَلَىٰٓ to give life ʿalā
to give life
أَن to give life an
to give life
يُحْـِۧىَ to give life yuḥ'yiya
to give life
ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ ۚ (to) the dead l-mawtā
(to) the dead
بَلَىٰٓ Yes balā
Yes
إِنَّهُۥ indeed He innahu
indeed He
عَلَىٰ (is) on ʿalā
(is) on
كُلِّ every kulli
every
شَىْءٍۢ thing shayin
thing
قَدِيرٌۭ All-Powerful qadīrun
All-Powerful
٣٣ (33)
(33)
Do they not see that Allāh, who created the heavens and earth and did not fail in their creation, is able to give life to the dead? Yes. Indeed, He is over all things competent.
46:34
وَيَوْمَ And (the) Day wayawma
And (the) Day
يُعْرَضُ are exposed yuʿ'raḍu
are exposed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved
عَلَى to ʿalā
to
ٱلنَّارِ the Fire l-nāri
the Fire
أَلَيْسَ Is not alaysa
Is not
هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this
بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ the truth bil-ḥaqi
the truth
قَالُوا۟ They will say qālū
They will say
بَلَىٰ Yes balā
Yes
وَرَبِّنَا ۚ by our Lord warabbinā
by our Lord
قَالَ He will say qāla
He will say
فَذُوقُوا۟ Then taste fadhūqū
Then taste
ٱلْعَذَابَ the punishment l-ʿadhāba
the punishment
بِمَا because bimā
because
كُنتُمْ you used to kuntum
you used to
تَكْفُرُونَ disbelieve takfurūna
disbelieve
٣٤ (34)
(34)
And the Day those who disbelieved are exposed to the Fire [it will be said], "Is this not the truth?" They will say, "Yes, by our Lord." He will say, "Then taste the punishment for what you used to deny."1
46:35
فَٱصْبِرْ So be patient fa-iṣ'bir
So be patient
كَمَا as kamā
as
صَبَرَ had patience ṣabara
had patience
أُو۟لُوا۟ those of determination ulū
those of determination
ٱلْعَزْمِ those of determination l-ʿazmi
those of determination
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلرُّسُلِ the Messengers l-rusuli
the Messengers
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تَسْتَعْجِل seek to hasten tastaʿjil
seek to hasten
لَّهُمْ ۚ for them lahum
for them
كَأَنَّهُمْ As if they had ka-annahum
As if they had
يَوْمَ (the) Day yawma
(the) Day
يَرَوْنَ they see yarawna
they see
مَا what
what
يُوعَدُونَ they were promised yūʿadūna
they were promised
لَمْ not lam
not
يَلْبَثُوٓا۟ remained yalbathū
remained
إِلَّا except illā
except
سَاعَةًۭ an hour sāʿatan
an hour
مِّن of min
of
نَّهَارٍۭ ۚ a day nahārin
a day
بَلَـٰغٌۭ ۚ A notification balāghun
A notification
فَهَلْ But will fahal
But will
يُهْلَكُ (any) be destroyed yuh'laku
(any) be destroyed
إِلَّا except illā
except
ٱلْقَوْمُ the people l-qawmu
the people
ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ the defiantly disobedient l-fāsiqūna
the defiantly disobedient
٣٥ (35)
(35)
So be patient, [O Muḥammad], as were those of determination among the messengers and do not be impatient for them. It will be - on the Day they see that which they are promised - as though they had not remained [in the world] except an hour of a day. [This is] notification. And will [any] be destroyed except the defiantly disobedient people?
