بسملة

بِسْمِ In (the) name ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

٨:١

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ They ask you عَنِ about ٱلْأَنفَالِ ۖ the spoils of war قُلِ Say ٱلْأَنفَالُ The spoils of war لِلَّهِ (are) for Allah وَٱلرَّسُولِ ۖ and the Messenger فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah وَأَصْلِحُوا۟ and set right ذَاتَ that بَيْنِكُمْ ۖ (which is) between you وَأَطِيعُوا۟ and obey ٱللَّهَ Allah وَرَسُولَهُۥٓ and His Messenger إِن if كُنتُم you are مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers ١ (1)

They ask you, [O Muḥammad], about the bounties [of war]. Say, "The [decision concerning] bounties is for Allāh and the Messenger." So fear Allāh and amend that which is between you and obey Allāh and His Messenger, if you should be believers.

٨:٢

إِنَّمَا Only ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ the believers ٱلَّذِينَ (are) those who إِذَا when ذُكِرَ is mentioned ٱللَّهُ Allah وَجِلَتْ feel fear قُلُوبُهُمْ their hearts وَإِذَا and when تُلِيَتْ are recited عَلَيْهِمْ to them ءَايَـٰتُهُۥ His Verses زَادَتْهُمْ they increase them إِيمَـٰنًۭا (in) faith وَعَلَىٰ and upon رَبِّهِمْ their Lord يَتَوَكَّلُونَ they put their trust ٢ (2)

The believers are only those who, when Allāh is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely -

٨:٣

ٱلَّذِينَ Those who يُقِيمُونَ establish ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer وَمِمَّا and out of what رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ We have provided them يُنفِقُونَ they spend ٣ (3)

The ones who establish prayer, and from what We have provided them, they spend.

٨:٤

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those هُمُ they are ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ the believers حَقًّۭا ۚ (in) truth لَّهُمْ For them دَرَجَـٰتٌ (are) ranks عِندَ with رَبِّهِمْ their Lord وَمَغْفِرَةٌۭ and forgiveness وَرِزْقٌۭ and a provision كَرِيمٌۭ noble ٤ (4)

Those are the believers, truly. For them are degrees [of high position] with their Lord and forgiveness and noble provision.

٨:٥

كَمَآ As أَخْرَجَكَ brought you out رَبُّكَ your Lord مِنۢ from بَيْتِكَ your home بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth وَإِنَّ while indeed فَرِيقًۭا a party مِّنَ among ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers لَكَـٰرِهُونَ certainly disliked ٥ (5)

[It is] just as when your Lord brought you out of your home [for the battle of Badr] in truth, while indeed, a party among the believers were unwilling,

٨:٦

يُجَـٰدِلُونَكَ They dispute with you فِى concerning ٱلْحَقِّ the truth بَعْدَ مَا after what تَبَيَّنَ was made clear كَأَنَّمَا as if يُسَاقُونَ they were driven إِلَى to ٱلْمَوْتِ [the] death وَهُمْ while they يَنظُرُونَ (were) looking ٦ (6)

Arguing with you concerning the truth after it had become clear, as if they were being driven toward death while they were looking on.

٨:٧

وَإِذْ And when يَعِدُكُمُ promised you ٱللَّهُ Allah إِحْدَى one ٱلطَّآئِفَتَيْنِ (of) the two groups أَنَّهَا that it (would be) لَكُمْ for you وَتَوَدُّونَ and you wished أَنَّ that غَيْرَ (one) other than ذَاتِ that ٱلشَّوْكَةِ (of) the armed تَكُونُ would be لَكُمْ for you وَيُرِيدُ But intended ٱللَّهُ Allah أَن to يُحِقَّ justify ٱلْحَقَّ the truth بِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ by His words وَيَقْطَعَ and cut off دَابِرَ (the) roots ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ (of) the disbelievers ٧ (7)

[Remember, O believers], when Allāh promised you one of the two groups - that it would be yours - and you wished that the unarmed one would be yours. But Allāh intended to establish the truth by His words and to eliminate the disbelievers

٨:٨

لِيُحِقَّ That He might justify ٱلْحَقَّ the truth وَيُبْطِلَ and prove false ٱلْبَـٰطِلَ the falsehood وَلَوْ even if كَرِهَ disliked (it) ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ the criminals ٨ (8)

That He should establish the truth and abolish falsehood, even if the criminals disliked it.

٨:٩

إِذْ When تَسْتَغِيثُونَ you were seeking help رَبَّكُمْ (of) your Lord فَٱسْتَجَابَ and He answered لَكُمْ [to] you أَنِّى Indeed, I am مُمِدُّكُم going to reinforce you بِأَلْفٍۢ with a thousand مِّنَ of ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ the Angels مُرْدِفِينَ one after another ٩ (9)

[Remember] when you were asking help of your Lord, and He answered you, "Indeed, I will reinforce you with a thousand from the angels, following one another."

٨:١٠

وَمَا And not جَعَلَهُ (it was) made ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah إِلَّا but بُشْرَىٰ good tidings وَلِتَطْمَئِنَّ and so that might be at rest بِهِۦ with it قُلُوبُكُمْ ۚ your hearts وَمَا And (there is) no ٱلنَّصْرُ [the] victory إِلَّا except مِنْ from عِندِ [of] ٱللَّهِ ۚ Allah إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah عَزِيزٌ (is) All-Mighty حَكِيمٌ All-Wise ١٠ (10)

And Allāh made it not but good tidings and so that your hearts would be assured thereby. And victory is not but from Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.

٨:١١

إِذْ When يُغَشِّيكُمُ He covered you ٱلنُّعَاسَ with [the] slumber أَمَنَةًۭ a security مِّنْهُ from Him وَيُنَزِّلُ and sent down عَلَيْكُم upon you مِّنَ from ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky مَآءًۭ water لِّيُطَهِّرَكُم so that He may purify you بِهِۦ with it وَيُذْهِبَ and take away عَنكُمْ from you رِجْزَ evil (suggestions) ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ (of) the Shaitaan وَلِيَرْبِطَ And to strengthen عَلَىٰ [on] قُلُوبِكُمْ your hearts وَيُثَبِّتَ and make firm بِهِ with it ٱلْأَقْدَامَ your feet ١١ (11)

[Remember] when He overwhelmed you with drowsiness [giving] security from Him and sent down upon you from the sky, rain by which to purify you and remove from you the evil [suggestions] of Satan and to make steadfast your hearts and plant firmly thereby your feet.

٨:١٢

إِذْ When يُوحِى inspired رَبُّكَ your Lord إِلَى to ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ the Angels أَنِّى I am مَعَكُمْ with you فَثَبِّتُوا۟ so strengthen ٱلَّذِينَ those who ءَامَنُوا۟ ۚ believed سَأُلْقِى I will cast فِى in قُلُوبِ (the) hearts ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved ٱلرُّعْبَ the terror فَٱضْرِبُوا۟ so strike فَوْقَ above ٱلْأَعْنَاقِ the necks وَٱضْرِبُوا۟ and strike مِنْهُمْ from them كُلَّ every بَنَانٍۢ fingertip[s] ١٢ (12)

[Remember] when your Lord inspired to the angels, "I am with you, so strengthen those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved, so strike [them] upon the necks and strike from them every fingertip."1

٨:١٣

ذَٰلِكَ That بِأَنَّهُمْ (is) because they شَآقُّوا۟ opposed ٱللَّهَ Allah وَرَسُولَهُۥ ۚ and His Messenger وَمَن And whoever يُشَاقِقِ opposes ٱللَّهَ Allah وَرَسُولَهُۥ and His Messenger فَإِنَّ then indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah شَدِيدُ (is) severe ٱلْعِقَابِ in [the] penalty ١٣ (13)

That is because they opposed Allāh and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allāh and His Messenger - indeed, Allāh is severe in penalty.

٨:١٤

ذَٰلِكُمْ That فَذُوقُوهُ So taste it وَأَنَّ And that لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ for the disbelievers عَذَابَ (is the) punishment ٱلنَّارِ (of) the Fire ١٤ (14)

"That [is yours], so taste it." And indeed for the disbelievers is the punishment of the Fire.

٨:١٥

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you ٱلَّذِينَ who ءَامَنُوٓا۟ believe إِذَا When لَقِيتُمُ you meet ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve زَحْفًۭا advancing فَلَا then (do) not تُوَلُّوهُمُ turn to them ٱلْأَدْبَارَ the backs ١٥ (15)

O you who have believed, when you meet those who disbelieve advancing [in battle], do not turn to them your backs [in flight].

٨:١٦

وَمَن And whoever يُوَلِّهِمْ turns to them يَوْمَئِذٍۢ that day دُبُرَهُۥٓ his back إِلَّا except مُتَحَرِّفًۭا (as) a strategy لِّقِتَالٍ of war أَوْ or مُتَحَيِّزًا (to) join إِلَىٰ to فِئَةٍۢ a group فَقَدْ certainly بَآءَ (he has) incurred بِغَضَبٍۢ wrath مِّنَ of ٱللَّهِ Allah وَمَأْوَىٰهُ and his abode جَهَنَّمُ ۖ (is) Hell وَبِئْسَ a wretched ٱلْمَصِيرُ destination ١٦ (16)

And whoever turns his back to them on such a day, unless swerving [as a strategy] for war or joining [another] company, has certainly returned with anger [upon him] from Allāh, and his refuge is Hell - and wretched is the destination.

٨:١٧

فَلَمْ And not تَقْتُلُوهُمْ you kill them وَلَـٰكِنَّ but ٱللَّهَ Allah قَتَلَهُمْ ۚ killed them وَمَا And not رَمَيْتَ you threw إِذْ when رَمَيْتَ you threw وَلَـٰكِنَّ but ٱللَّهَ Allah رَمَىٰ ۚ threw وَلِيُبْلِىَ and that He may test ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers مِنْهُ from Him بَلَآءً (with) a trial حَسَنًا ۚ good إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah سَمِيعٌ (is) All-Hearing عَلِيمٌۭ All-Knowing ١٧ (17)

And you did not kill them, but it was Allāh who killed them. And you threw not, [O Muḥammad], when you threw, but it was Allāh who threw that He might test the believers with a good test. Indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.

٨:١٨

ذَٰلِكُمْ That (is the case) وَأَنَّ and that ٱللَّهَ Allah (is) مُوهِنُ one who makes weak كَيْدِ (the) plan ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ (of) the disbelievers ١٨ (18)

That [is so], and [also] that Allāh will weaken the plot of the disbelievers.

٨:١٩

إِن If تَسْتَفْتِحُوا۟ you ask for victory فَقَدْ then certainly جَآءَكُمُ has come to you ٱلْفَتْحُ ۖ the victory وَإِن And if تَنتَهُوا۟ you desist فَهُوَ then it (is) خَيْرٌۭ good لَّكُمْ ۖ for you وَإِن but if تَعُودُوا۟ you return نَعُدْ We will return (too) وَلَن And never تُغْنِىَ will avail عَنكُمْ you فِئَتُكُمْ your forces شَيْـًۭٔا anything وَلَوْ even if كَثُرَتْ (they are) numerous وَأَنَّ And that ٱللَّهَ Allah مَعَ (is) with ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers ١٩ (19)

If you [disbelievers] seek the decision [i.e., victory] - the decision [i.e., defeat] has come to you. And if you desist [from hostilities], it is best for you; but if you return [to war], We will return, and never will you be availed by your [large] company at all, even if it should increase; and [that is] because Allāh is with the believers.

٨:٢٠

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you ٱلَّذِينَ who ءَامَنُوٓا۟ believe أَطِيعُوا۟ Obey ٱللَّهَ Allah وَرَسُولَهُۥ and His Messenger وَلَا And (do) not تَوَلَّوْا۟ turn away عَنْهُ from him وَأَنتُمْ while you تَسْمَعُونَ hear ٢٠ (20)

O you who have believed, obey Allāh and His Messenger and do not turn from him while you hear [his order].

٨:٢١

وَلَا And (do) not تَكُونُوا۟ be كَٱلَّذِينَ like those who قَالُوا۟ say سَمِعْنَا We heard وَهُمْ while they لَا (do) not يَسْمَعُونَ hear ٢١ (21)

And do not be like those who say, "We have heard," while they do not hear.

٨:٢٢

۞ إِنَّ Indeed شَرَّ worst ٱلدَّوَآبِّ (of) the living creatures عِندَ near ٱللَّهِ Allah ٱلصُّمُّ (are) the deaf ٱلْبُكْمُ the dumb ٱلَّذِينَ those who لَا (do) not يَعْقِلُونَ use (their) intellect ٢٢ (22)

Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allāh are the deaf and dumb who do not use reason [i.e., the disbelievers].

٨:٢٣

وَلَوْ And if عَلِمَ (had) known ٱللَّهُ Allah فِيهِمْ in them خَيْرًۭا any good لَّأَسْمَعَهُمْ ۖ surely, He (would) have made them hear وَلَوْ And if أَسْمَعَهُمْ He had made them hear لَتَوَلَّوا۟ surely they would have turned away وَّهُم while they مُّعْرِضُونَ (were) averse ٢٣ (23)

Had Allāh known any good in them, He would have made them hear. And if He had made them hear, they would [still] have turned away, while they were refusing.

٨:٢٤

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you ٱلَّذِينَ who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe ٱسْتَجِيبُوا۟ Respond لِلَّهِ to Allah وَلِلرَّسُولِ and His Messenger إِذَا when دَعَاكُمْ he calls you لِمَا to what يُحْيِيكُمْ ۖ gives you life وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ And know أَنَّ that ٱللَّهَ Allah يَحُولُ comes بَيْنَ (in) between ٱلْمَرْءِ a man وَقَلْبِهِۦ and his heart وَأَنَّهُۥٓ and that إِلَيْهِ to Him تُحْشَرُونَ you will be gathered ٢٤ (24)

O you who have believed, respond to Allāh and to the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life. And know that Allāh intervenes between a man and his heart and that to Him you will be gathered.

٨:٢٥

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ And fear فِتْنَةًۭ a trial لَّا not تُصِيبَنَّ which will afflict ٱلَّذِينَ those who ظَلَمُوا۟ do wrong مِنكُمْ among you خَآصَّةًۭ ۖ exclusively وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ And know أَنَّ that ٱللَّهَ Allah شَدِيدُ (is) severe ٱلْعِقَابِ (in) the penalty ٢٥ (25)

And fear a trial which will not strike those who have wronged among you exclusively, and know that Allāh is severe in penalty.

٨:٢٦

وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟ And remember إِذْ when أَنتُمْ you قَلِيلٌۭ (were) few مُّسْتَضْعَفُونَ (and) deemed weak فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth تَخَافُونَ fearing أَن that يَتَخَطَّفَكُمُ might do away with you ٱلنَّاسُ the men فَـَٔاوَىٰكُمْ then He sheltered you وَأَيَّدَكُم and strengthened you بِنَصْرِهِۦ with His help وَرَزَقَكُم and provided you مِّنَ of ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ the good things لَعَلَّكُمْ so that you may تَشْكُرُونَ (be) thankful ٢٦ (26)

And remember when you were few and oppressed in the land, fearing that people might abduct you, but He sheltered you, supported you with His victory, and provided you with good things - that you might be grateful.

٨:٢٧

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you ٱلَّذِينَ who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe لَا (Do) not تَخُونُوا۟ betray ٱللَّهَ Allah وَٱلرَّسُولَ and the Messenger وَتَخُونُوٓا۟ or betray أَمَـٰنَـٰتِكُمْ your trusts وَأَنتُمْ while you تَعْلَمُونَ know ٢٧ (27)

O you who have believed, do not betray Allāh and the Messenger or betray your trusts while you know [the consequence].

٨:٢٨

وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ And know أَنَّمَآ that أَمْوَٰلُكُمْ your wealth وَأَوْلَـٰدُكُمْ and your children فِتْنَةٌۭ (are) a trial وَأَنَّ And that ٱللَّهَ Allah عِندَهُۥٓ with Him أَجْرٌ (is) a reward عَظِيمٌۭ great ٢٨ (28)

And know that your properties and your children are but a trial and that Allāh has with Him a great reward.

٨:٢٩

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you ٱلَّذِينَ who ءَامَنُوٓا۟ believe إِن If تَتَّقُوا۟ you fear ٱللَّهَ Allah يَجْعَل He will grant لَّكُمْ you فُرْقَانًۭا a criterion وَيُكَفِّرْ and will remove عَنكُمْ from you سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْ your evil deeds وَيَغْفِرْ and forgive لَكُمْ ۗ you وَٱللَّهُ And Allah ذُو (is) the Possessor ٱلْفَضْلِ (of) Bounty ٱلْعَظِيمِ the Great ٢٩ (29)

O you who have believed, if you fear Allāh, He will grant you a criterion and will remove from you your misdeeds and forgive you. And Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.

٨:٣٠

وَإِذْ And when يَمْكُرُ plotted بِكَ against you ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved لِيُثْبِتُوكَ that they restrain you أَوْ or يَقْتُلُوكَ kill you أَوْ or يُخْرِجُوكَ ۚ drive you out وَيَمْكُرُونَ And they were planning وَيَمْكُرُ and (also) was planning ٱللَّهُ ۖ Allah وَٱللَّهُ And Allah خَيْرُ is (the) Best ٱلْمَـٰكِرِينَ (of) the Planners ٣٠ (30)

And [remember, O Muḥammad], when those who disbelieved plotted against you to restrain you or kill you or evict you [from Makkah]. But they plan, and Allāh plans. And Allāh is the best of planners.

٨:٣١

وَإِذَا And when تُتْلَىٰ are recited عَلَيْهِمْ to them ءَايَـٰتُنَا Our Verses قَالُوا۟ they say قَدْ Verily سَمِعْنَا we have heard لَوْ if نَشَآءُ we wish لَقُلْنَا surely, we could say مِثْلَ like هَـٰذَآ ۙ this إِنْ Not هَـٰذَآ is this إِلَّآ but أَسَـٰطِيرُ tales ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (of) the former (people) ٣١ (31)

And when Our verses are recited to them, they say, "We have heard. If we willed, we could say [something] like this. This is not but legends of the former peoples."

٨:٣٢

وَإِذْ And when قَالُوا۟ they said ٱللَّهُمَّ O Allah إِن If كَانَ was هَـٰذَا this هُوَ [it] ٱلْحَقَّ the truth مِنْ [of] عِندِكَ from You فَأَمْطِرْ then (send) rain عَلَيْنَا upon us حِجَارَةًۭ (of) stones مِّنَ from ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky أَوِ or ٱئْتِنَا bring (upon) us بِعَذَابٍ a punishment أَلِيمٍۢ painful ٣٢ (32)

And [remember] when they said, "O Allāh, if this should be the truth from You, then rain down upon us stones from the sky or bring us a painful punishment."

٨:٣٣

وَمَا But not كَانَ is ٱللَّهُ (for) Allah لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ that He punishes them وَأَنتَ while you فِيهِمْ ۚ (are) among them وَمَا and not كَانَ is ٱللَّهُ Allah مُعَذِّبَهُمْ the One Who punishes them وَهُمْ while they يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ seek forgiveness ٣٣ (33)

But Allāh would not punish them while you, [O Muḥammad], are among them, and Allāh would not punish them while they seek forgiveness.

٨:٣٤

وَمَا But what لَهُمْ (is) for them أَلَّا that not يُعَذِّبَهُمُ (should) punish them ٱللَّهُ Allah وَهُمْ while they يَصُدُّونَ hinder (people) عَنِ from ٱلْمَسْجِدِ Al-Masjid ٱلْحَرَامِ Al-Haraam وَمَا while not كَانُوٓا۟ they are أَوْلِيَآءَهُۥٓ ۚ its guardians إِنْ Not (can be) أَوْلِيَآؤُهُۥٓ its guardians إِلَّا except ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ the ones who fear Allah وَلَـٰكِنَّ but أَكْثَرَهُمْ most of them لَا (do) not يَعْلَمُونَ know ٣٤ (34)

But why should Allāh not punish them while they obstruct [people] from al-Masjid al-Ḥarām and they were not [fit to be] its guardians? Its [true] guardians are not but the righteous, but most of them do not know.

٨:٣٥

وَمَا And not كَانَ was صَلَاتُهُمْ their prayer عِندَ at ٱلْبَيْتِ the House إِلَّا except مُكَآءًۭ whistling وَتَصْدِيَةًۭ ۚ and clapping فَذُوقُوا۟ So taste ٱلْعَذَابَ the punishment بِمَا because كُنتُمْ you used to تَكْفُرُونَ disbelieve ٣٥ (35)

And their prayer at the House [i.e., the Kaʿbah] was not except whistling and handclapping. So taste the punishment for what you disbelieved [i.e., practiced of deviations].

٨:٣٦

إِنَّ Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve يُنفِقُونَ they spend أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ their wealth لِيَصُدُّوا۟ to hinder (people) عَن from سَبِيلِ (the) way ٱللَّهِ ۚ (of) Allah فَسَيُنفِقُونَهَا So they will spend it ثُمَّ then تَكُونُ it will be عَلَيْهِمْ for them حَسْرَةًۭ a regret ثُمَّ then يُغْلَبُونَ ۗ they will be overcome وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who كَفَرُوٓا۟ disbelieve إِلَىٰ to جَهَنَّمَ Hell يُحْشَرُونَ they will be gathered ٣٦ (36)

Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to avert [people] from the way of Allāh. So they will spend it; then it will be for them a [source of] regret; then they will be overcome. And those who have disbelieved - unto Hell they will be gathered.

٨:٣٧

لِيَمِيزَ That may distinguish ٱللَّهُ Allah ٱلْخَبِيثَ the wicked مِنَ from ٱلطَّيِّبِ the good وَيَجْعَلَ and place ٱلْخَبِيثَ the wicked بَعْضَهُۥ some of them عَلَىٰ on بَعْضٍۢ others فَيَرْكُمَهُۥ and heap them جَمِيعًۭا all together فَيَجْعَلَهُۥ and put them فِى in جَهَنَّمَ ۚ Hell أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those هُمُ they ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ (are) the losers ٣٧ (37)

[It is] so that Allāh may distinguish the wicked from the good and place the wicked some of them upon others and heap them all together and put them into Hell. It is those who are the losers.

٨:٣٨

قُل Say لِّلَّذِينَ to those who كَفَرُوٓا۟ disbelieve إِن if يَنتَهُوا۟ they cease يُغْفَرْ will be forgiven لَهُم for them مَّا what قَدْ [verily] سَلَفَ (is) past وَإِن But if يَعُودُوا۟ they return فَقَدْ then verily مَضَتْ preceded سُنَّتُ (the) practice ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (of) the former (people) ٣٨ (38)

Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them. But if they return [to hostility] - then the precedent of the former [rebellious] peoples has already taken place.

٨:٣٩

وَقَـٰتِلُوهُمْ And fight them حَتَّىٰ until لَا not تَكُونَ there is فِتْنَةٌۭ oppression وَيَكُونَ and is ٱلدِّينُ the religion كُلُّهُۥ all of it لِلَّهِ ۚ for Allah فَإِنِ But if ٱنتَهَوْا۟ they cease فَإِنَّ then indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah بِمَا of what يَعْمَلُونَ they do بَصِيرٌۭ (is) All-Seer ٣٩ (39)

And fight against them until there is no fitnah and [until] the religion [i.e., worship], all of it, is for Allāh. And if they cease - then indeed, Allāh is Seeing of what they do.

٨:٤٠

وَإِن And if تَوَلَّوْا۟ they turn away فَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ then know أَنَّ that ٱللَّهَ Allah مَوْلَىٰكُمْ ۚ (is) your Protector نِعْمَ Excellent ٱلْمَوْلَىٰ (is) the Protector وَنِعْمَ and Excellent ٱلنَّصِيرُ (is) the Helper ٤٠ (40)

But if they turn away - then know that Allāh is your protector. Excellent is the protector, and excellent is the helper.

٨:٤١

۞ وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ And know أَنَّمَا that what غَنِمْتُم you obtain (as) spoils of war مِّن of شَىْءٍۢ anything فَأَنَّ then that لِلَّهِ for Allah خُمُسَهُۥ (is) one fifth of it وَلِلرَّسُولِ and for the Messenger وَلِذِى and for the ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ near relatives وَٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ and the orphans وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينِ and the needy وَٱبْنِ and the ٱلسَّبِيلِ wayfarer إِن if كُنتُمْ you ءَامَنتُم believe بِٱللَّهِ in Allah وَمَآ and (in) what أَنزَلْنَا We sent down عَلَىٰ to عَبْدِنَا Our slave يَوْمَ (on the) day ٱلْفُرْقَانِ (of) the criterion يَوْمَ (the) day ٱلْتَقَى (when) met ٱلْجَمْعَانِ ۗ the two forces وَٱللَّهُ And Allah عَلَىٰ (is) on كُلِّ every شَىْءٍۢ thing قَدِيرٌ All-Powerful ٤١ (41)

And know that anything you obtain of war booty - then indeed, for Allāh is one fifth of it and for the Messenger and for [his] near relatives and the orphans, the needy, and the [stranded] traveler, if you have believed in Allāh and in that which We sent down to Our Servant on the day of criterion [i.e., decisive encounter] - the day when the two armies met [at Badr]. And Allāh, over all things, is competent.

٨:٤٢

إِذْ When أَنتُم you (were) بِٱلْعُدْوَةِ on side of the valley ٱلدُّنْيَا the nearer وَهُم and they بِٱلْعُدْوَةِ (were) on the side ٱلْقُصْوَىٰ the farther وَٱلرَّكْبُ and the caravan أَسْفَلَ (was) lower مِنكُمْ ۚ than you وَلَوْ And if تَوَاعَدتُّمْ you (had) made an appointment لَٱخْتَلَفْتُمْ certainly you would have failed فِى in ٱلْمِيعَـٰدِ ۙ the appointment وَلَـٰكِن But لِّيَقْضِىَ that might accomplish ٱللَّهُ Allah أَمْرًۭا a matter كَانَ (that) was مَفْعُولًۭا destined لِّيَهْلِكَ that (might be) destroyed مَنْ (those) who هَلَكَ (were to be) destroyed عَنۢ on بَيِّنَةٍۢ a clear evidence وَيَحْيَىٰ and (might) live مَنْ (those) who حَىَّ (were to) live عَنۢ on بَيِّنَةٍۢ ۗ a clear evidence وَإِنَّ And indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah لَسَمِيعٌ (is) All-Hearing عَلِيمٌ All-Knowing ٤٢ (42)

[Remember] when you were on the near side of the valley, and they were on the farther side, and the caravan was lower [in position] than you. If you had made an appointment [to meet], you would have missed the appointment. But [it was] so that Allāh might accomplish a matter already destined - that those who perished [through disbelief] would perish upon evidence and those who lived [in faith] would live upon evidence; and indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.

٨:٤٣

إِذْ When يُرِيكَهُمُ you (where) shown them ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah فِى in مَنَامِكَ your dream قَلِيلًۭا ۖ (as) few وَلَوْ and if أَرَىٰكَهُمْ He had shown them to you كَثِيرًۭا (as) many لَّفَشِلْتُمْ surely you would have lost courage وَلَتَنَـٰزَعْتُمْ and surely you would have disputed فِى in ٱلْأَمْرِ the matter وَلَـٰكِنَّ but ٱللَّهَ Allah سَلَّمَ ۗ saved (you) إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He عَلِيمٌۢ (is) All-Knower بِذَاتِ of what is in ٱلصُّدُورِ the breasts ٤٣ (43)

[Remember, O Muḥammad], when Allāh showed them to you in your dream as few; and if He had shown them to you as many, you [believers] would have lost courage and would have disputed in the matter [of whether to fight], but Allāh saved [you from that]. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.

٨:٤٤

وَإِذْ And when يُرِيكُمُوهُمْ He showed them to you إِذِ when ٱلْتَقَيْتُمْ you met فِىٓ in أَعْيُنِكُمْ your eyes قَلِيلًۭا (as) few وَيُقَلِّلُكُمْ and He made you (appear) as few فِىٓ in أَعْيُنِهِمْ their eyes لِيَقْضِىَ that might accomplish ٱللَّهُ Allah might accomplish أَمْرًۭا a matter كَانَ (that) was مَفْعُولًۭا ۗ (already) destined وَإِلَى And to ٱللَّهِ Allah تُرْجَعُ return ٱلْأُمُورُ (all) the matters ٤٤ (44)

And [remember] when He showed them to you, when you met, as few in your eyes, and He made you [appear] as few in their eyes so that Allāh might accomplish a matter already destined. And to Allāh are [all] matters returned.

٨:٤٥

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you ٱلَّذِينَ who ءَامَنُوٓا۟ believe إِذَا When لَقِيتُمْ you meet فِئَةًۭ a force فَٱثْبُتُوا۟ then be firm وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ and remember ٱللَّهَ Allah كَثِيرًۭا much لَّعَلَّكُمْ so that you may تُفْلِحُونَ (be) successful ٤٥ (45)

O you who have believed, when you encounter a company [from the enemy forces], stand firm and remember Allāh much that you may be successful.

٨:٤٦

وَأَطِيعُوا۟ And obey ٱللَّهَ Allah وَرَسُولَهُۥ and His Messenger وَلَا and (do) not تَنَـٰزَعُوا۟ dispute فَتَفْشَلُوا۟ lest you lose courage وَتَذْهَبَ and (would) depart رِيحُكُمْ ۖ your strength وَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟ ۚ and be patient إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah مَعَ (is) with ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ the patient ones ٤٦ (46)

And obey Allāh and His Messenger, and do not dispute and [thus] lose courage and [then] your strength would depart; and be patient. Indeed, Allāh is with the patient.

٨:٤٧

وَلَا And (do) not تَكُونُوا۟ be كَٱلَّذِينَ like those who خَرَجُوا۟ came forth مِن from دِيَـٰرِهِم their homes بَطَرًۭا boastfully وَرِئَآءَ and showing off ٱلنَّاسِ (to) the people وَيَصُدُّونَ and hinder (them) عَن from سَبِيلِ (the) way ٱللَّهِ ۚ (of) Allah وَٱللَّهُ And Allah بِمَا of what يَعْمَلُونَ they do مُحِيطٌۭ (is) All-Encompassing ٤٧ (47)

And do not be like those who came forth from their homes insolently and to be seen by people and avert [them] from the way of Allāh. And Allāh is encompassing of what they do.

٨:٤٨

وَإِذْ And when زَيَّنَ made fair-seeming لَهُمُ to them ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ the Shaitaan أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ their deeds وَقَالَ and he said لَا No (one) غَالِبَ (can) overcome لَكُمُ [to] you ٱلْيَوْمَ today مِنَ from ٱلنَّاسِ the people وَإِنِّى and indeed, I am جَارٌۭ a neighbor لَّكُمْ ۖ for you فَلَمَّا But when تَرَآءَتِ came in sight ٱلْفِئَتَانِ the two forces نَكَصَ he turned away عَلَىٰ on عَقِبَيْهِ his heels وَقَالَ and said إِنِّى Indeed, I am بَرِىٓءٌۭ free مِّنكُمْ of you إِنِّىٓ Indeed, I أَرَىٰ see مَا what لَا not تَرَوْنَ you see إِنِّىٓ indeed, I أَخَافُ [I] fear ٱللَّهَ ۚ Allah وَٱللَّهُ And Allah شَدِيدُ (is) severe ٱلْعِقَابِ (in) the penalty ٤٨ (48)

And [remember] when Satan made their deeds pleasing to them and said, "No one can overcome you today from among the people, and indeed, I am your protector." But when the two armies sighted each other, he turned on his heels and said, "Indeed, I am disassociated from you. Indeed, I see what you do not see; indeed, I fear Allāh. And Allāh is severe in penalty."

٨:٤٩

إِذْ When يَقُولُ said ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقُونَ the hypocrites وَٱلَّذِينَ and those who فِى in قُلُوبِهِم their hearts مَّرَضٌ (was) a disease غَرَّ (Had) deluded هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ these (people) دِينُهُمْ ۗ their religion وَمَن But whoever يَتَوَكَّلْ puts (his) trust عَلَى in ٱللَّهِ Allah فَإِنَّ then indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah عَزِيزٌ (is) All-Mighty حَكِيمٌۭ All-Wise ٤٩ (49)

[Remember] when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts was disease [i.e., arrogance and disbelief] said, "Their religion has deluded those [Muslims]." But whoever relies upon Allāh - then indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.

٨:٥٠

وَلَوْ And if تَرَىٰٓ you (could) see إِذْ when يَتَوَفَّى take away souls ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who كَفَرُوا۟ ۙ disbelieve ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ the Angels يَضْرِبُونَ striking وُجُوهَهُمْ their faces وَأَدْبَـٰرَهُمْ and their backs وَذُوقُوا۟ Taste عَذَابَ (the) punishment ٱلْحَرِيقِ (of) the Blazing Fire ٥٠ (50)

And if you could but see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved... They are striking their faces and their backs and [saying], "Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire.

٨:٥١

ذَٰلِكَ That بِمَا (is) for what قَدَّمَتْ sent forth أَيْدِيكُمْ your hands وَأَنَّ And indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah لَيْسَ (is) not بِظَلَّـٰمٍۢ unjust لِّلْعَبِيدِ to His slaves ٥١ (51)

That is for what your hands have put forth [of evil] and because Allāh is not ever unjust to [His] servants."

٨:٥٢

كَدَأْبِ Like (the) way ءَالِ (of) people فِرْعَوْنَ ۙ (of) Firaun وَٱلَّذِينَ and those who مِن (were) from قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ before them كَفَرُوا۟ They disbelieved بِـَٔايَـٰتِ in (the) Signs ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah فَأَخَذَهُمُ so seized them ٱللَّهُ Allah بِذُنُوبِهِمْ ۗ for their sins إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah قَوِىٌّۭ (is) All-Strong شَدِيدُ (and) severe ٱلْعِقَابِ (in) the penalty ٥٢ (52)

[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and of those before them. They disbelieved in the signs of Allāh, so Allāh seized them for their sins. Indeed, Allāh is Powerful and severe in penalty.

٨:٥٣

ذَٰلِكَ That بِأَنَّ (is) because ٱللَّهَ Allah لَمْ not يَكُ is مُغَيِّرًۭا One Who changes نِّعْمَةً a favor أَنْعَمَهَا which He had bestowed عَلَىٰ on قَوْمٍ a people حَتَّىٰ until يُغَيِّرُوا۟ they change مَا what بِأَنفُسِهِمْ ۙ (is) in themselves وَأَنَّ And indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah سَمِيعٌ (is) All-Hearing عَلِيمٌۭ All-Knowing ٥٣ (53)

That is because Allāh would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon a people until they change what is within themselves. And indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.

٨:٥٤

كَدَأْبِ Like (the) way ءَالِ (of) people فِرْعَوْنَ ۙ (of) Firaun وَٱلَّذِينَ and those who مِن (were) from قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ before them كَذَّبُوا۟ They denied بِـَٔايَـٰتِ (the) Signs رَبِّهِمْ (of) their Lord فَأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُم so We destroyed them بِذُنُوبِهِمْ for their sins وَأَغْرَقْنَآ and We drowned ءَالَ (the) people فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ (of) Firaun وَكُلٌّۭ and (they) all كَانُوا۟ were ظَـٰلِمِينَ wrongdoers ٥٤ (54)

[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and of those before them. They denied the signs of their Lord, so We destroyed them for their sins, and We drowned the people of Pharaoh. And all [of them] were wrongdoers.

٨:٥٥

إِنَّ Indeed شَرَّ (the) worst ٱلدَّوَآبِّ (of) the living creatures عِندَ near ٱللَّهِ Allah ٱلَّذِينَ (are) those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve فَهُمْ and they لَا (will) not يُؤْمِنُونَ believe ٥٥ (55)

Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allāh are those who have disbelieved, and they will not [ever] believe-

٨:٥٦

ٱلَّذِينَ Those who عَـٰهَدتَّ you made a covenant مِنْهُمْ with them ثُمَّ then يَنقُضُونَ they break عَهْدَهُمْ their covenant فِى [in] كُلِّ every مَرَّةٍۢ time وَهُمْ and they لَا (do) not يَتَّقُونَ fear (Allah) ٥٦ (56)

The ones with whom you made a treaty but then they break their pledge every time, and they do not fear Allāh.

٨:٥٧

فَإِمَّا So if تَثْقَفَنَّهُمْ you gain dominance over them فِى in ٱلْحَرْبِ the war فَشَرِّدْ disperse بِهِم by them مَّنْ (those) who خَلْفَهُمْ (are) behind them لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may يَذَّكَّرُونَ take heed ٥٧ (57)

So if you, [O Muḥammad], gain dominance over them in war, disperse by [means of] them those behind them that perhaps they will be reminded.

٨:٥٨

وَإِمَّا And if تَخَافَنَّ you fear مِن from قَوْمٍ a people خِيَانَةًۭ betrayal فَٱنۢبِذْ throw back إِلَيْهِمْ to them عَلَىٰ on سَوَآءٍ ۚ equal (terms) إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah لَا (does) not يُحِبُّ love ٱلْخَآئِنِينَ the traitors ٥٨ (58)

If you [have reason to] fear from a people betrayal, throw [their treaty] back to them, [putting you] on equal terms. Indeed, Allāh does not like traitors.

٨:٥٩

وَلَا And (let) not يَحْسَبَنَّ think ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve سَبَقُوٓا۟ ۚ they can outstrip إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they لَا (can) not يُعْجِزُونَ escape ٥٩ (59)

And let not those who disbelieve think they will escape. Indeed, they will not cause failure [to Allāh].

٨:٦٠

وَأَعِدُّوا۟ And prepare لَهُم for them مَّا whatever ٱسْتَطَعْتُم you able (to) مِّن of قُوَّةٍۢ force وَمِن and of رِّبَاطِ tethered ٱلْخَيْلِ horses تُرْهِبُونَ (to) terrify بِهِۦ therewith عَدُوَّ (the) enemy ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah وَعَدُوَّكُمْ and your enemy وَءَاخَرِينَ and others مِن from دُونِهِمْ besides them لَا not تَعْلَمُونَهُمُ (do) you know them ٱللَّهُ (but) Allah يَعْلَمُهُمْ ۚ knows them وَمَا And whatever تُنفِقُوا۟ you spend مِن from شَىْءٍۢ (any) thing فِى in سَبِيلِ (the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah يُوَفَّ it will be fully repaid إِلَيْكُمْ to you وَأَنتُمْ and you لَا (will) not تُظْلَمُونَ be wronged ٦٠ (60)

And prepare against them whatever you are able of power and of steeds of war by which you may terrify the enemy of Allāh and your enemy and others besides them whom you do not know [but] whom Allāh knows. And whatever you spend in the cause of Allāh will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be wronged.

٨:٦١

۞ وَإِن And if جَنَحُوا۟ they incline لِلسَّلْمِ to peace فَٱجْنَحْ then you (also) incline لَهَا to it وَتَوَكَّلْ and put (your) trust عَلَى in ٱللَّهِ ۚ Allah إِنَّهُۥ Indeed هُوَ He ٱلسَّمِيعُ (is) All-Hearer ٱلْعَلِيمُ All-Knower ٦١ (61)

And if they incline to peace, then incline to it [also] and rely upon Allāh. Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Knowing.

٨:٦٢

وَإِن But if يُرِيدُوٓا۟ they intend أَن to يَخْدَعُوكَ deceive you فَإِنَّ then indeed حَسْبَكَ is sufficient for you ٱللَّهُ ۚ Allah هُوَ He ٱلَّذِىٓ (is) the One Who أَيَّدَكَ supported you بِنَصْرِهِۦ with His help وَبِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ and with the believers ٦٢ (62)

But if they intend to deceive you - then sufficient for you is Allāh. It is He who supported you with His help and with the believers

٨:٦٣

وَأَلَّفَ And He (has) put affection بَيْنَ between قُلُوبِهِمْ ۚ their hearts لَوْ If أَنفَقْتَ you (had) spent مَا whatever فِى (is) in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth جَمِيعًۭا all مَّآ not أَلَّفْتَ (could) you (have) put affection بَيْنَ between قُلُوبِهِمْ their hearts وَلَـٰكِنَّ but ٱللَّهَ Allah أَلَّفَ (has) put affection بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ between them إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He عَزِيزٌ (is) All-Mighty حَكِيمٌۭ All-Wise ٦٣ (63)

And brought together their hearts. If you had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have brought their hearts together; but Allāh brought them together. Indeed, He is Exalted in Might and Wise.

٨:٦٤

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O ٱلنَّبِىُّ Prophet حَسْبُكَ Sufficient for you ٱللَّهُ (is) Allah وَمَنِ and whoever ٱتَّبَعَكَ follows you مِنَ of ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers ٦٤ (64)

O Prophet, sufficient for you is Allāh and for whoever follows you of the believers.

٨:٦٥

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O ٱلنَّبِىُّ Prophet حَرِّضِ Urge ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers عَلَى to ٱلْقِتَالِ ۚ [the] fight إِن If يَكُن (there) are مِّنكُمْ among you عِشْرُونَ twenty صَـٰبِرُونَ steadfast يَغْلِبُوا۟ they will overcome مِا۟ئَتَيْنِ ۚ two hundred وَإِن And if يَكُن (there) are مِّنكُم among you مِّا۟ئَةٌۭ a hundred يَغْلِبُوٓا۟ they will overcome أَلْفًۭا a thousand مِّنَ of ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve بِأَنَّهُمْ because they قَوْمٌۭ (are) a people لَّا (who do) not يَفْقَهُونَ understand ٦٥ (65)

O Prophet, urge the believers to battle. If there are among you twenty [who are] steadfast, they will overcome two hundred. And if there are among you one hundred [who are steadfast], they will overcome a thousand of those who have disbelieved because they are a people who do not understand.

٨:٦٦

ٱلْـَٔـٰنَ Now خَفَّفَ has (been) lightened ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah عَنكُمْ for you وَعَلِمَ and He knows أَنَّ that فِيكُمْ in you ضَعْفًۭا ۚ (there) is weakness فَإِن So if يَكُن (there) are مِّنكُم among you مِّا۟ئَةٌۭ a hundred صَابِرَةٌۭ steadfast يَغْلِبُوا۟ they will overcome مِا۟ئَتَيْنِ ۚ two hundred وَإِن And if يَكُن (there) are مِّنكُمْ among you أَلْفٌۭ a thousand يَغْلِبُوٓا۟ they will overcome أَلْفَيْنِ two thousand بِإِذْنِ with (the) permission ٱللَّهِ ۗ (of) Allah وَٱللَّهُ And Allah مَعَ (is) with ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ the steadfast ٦٦ (66)

Now, Allāh has lightened [the hardship] for you, and He knows that among you is weakness. So if there are from you one hundred [who are] steadfast, they will overcome two hundred. And if there are among you a thousand, they will overcome two thousand by permission of Allāh. And Allāh is with the steadfast.

٨:٦٧

مَا Not كَانَ is لِنَبِىٍّ for a Prophet أَن that يَكُونَ (there) should be لَهُۥٓ for him أَسْرَىٰ prisoners of war حَتَّىٰ until يُثْخِنَ he has battled strenuously فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ the land تُرِيدُونَ You desire عَرَضَ (the) commodities ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world وَٱللَّهُ but Allah يُرِيدُ desires ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۗ (for you) the Hereafter وَٱللَّهُ And Allah عَزِيزٌ (is) All-Mighty حَكِيمٌۭ All-Wise ٦٧ (67)

It is not for a prophet to have captives [of war] until he inflicts a massacre [upon Allāh's enemies] in the land. You [i.e., some Muslims] desire the commodities of this world, but Allāh desires [for you] the Hereafter. And Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.

٨:٦٨

لَّوْلَا Had not كِتَـٰبٌۭ an ordainment مِّنَ from ٱللَّهِ Allah سَبَقَ preceded لَمَسَّكُمْ surely (would) have touched you فِيمَآ for what أَخَذْتُمْ you took عَذَابٌ a punishment عَظِيمٌۭ great ٦٨ (68)

If not for a decree from Allāh that preceded, you would have been touched for what you took by a great punishment.

٨:٦٩

فَكُلُوا۟ So eat مِمَّا from what غَنِمْتُمْ you got as war booty حَلَـٰلًۭا lawful طَيِّبًۭا ۚ (and) good وَٱتَّقُوا۟ and fear ٱللَّهَ ۚ Allah إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah غَفُورٌۭ (is) Oft-Forgiving رَّحِيمٌۭ Most Merciful ٦٩ (69)

So consume what you have taken of war booty [as being] lawful and good, and fear Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.

٨:٧٠

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O ٱلنَّبِىُّ Prophet قُل Say لِّمَن to whoever فِىٓ (is) in أَيْدِيكُم your hands مِّنَ of ٱلْأَسْرَىٰٓ the captives إِن If يَعْلَمِ knows ٱللَّهُ Allah فِى in قُلُوبِكُمْ your hearts خَيْرًۭا any good يُؤْتِكُمْ He will give you خَيْرًۭا better مِّمَّآ than what أُخِذَ was taken مِنكُمْ from you وَيَغْفِرْ and He will forgive لَكُمْ ۗ you وَٱللَّهُ And Allah غَفُورٌۭ (is) Oft-Forgiving رَّحِيمٌۭ Most Merciful ٧٠ (70)

O Prophet, say to whoever is in your hands of the captives, "If Allāh knows [any] good in your hearts, He will give you [something] better than what was taken from you, and He will forgive you; and Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful."

٨:٧١

وَإِن But if يُرِيدُوا۟ they intend خِيَانَتَكَ (to) betray you فَقَدْ certainly خَانُوا۟ they have betrayed ٱللَّهَ Allah مِن from قَبْلُ before فَأَمْكَنَ So He gave (you) power مِنْهُمْ ۗ over them وَٱللَّهُ And Allah عَلِيمٌ (is) All-Knower حَكِيمٌ All-Wise ٧١ (71)

But if they intend to betray you - then they have already betrayed Allāh before, and He empowered [you] over them. And Allāh is Knowing and Wise.

٨:٧٢

إِنَّ Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believed وَهَاجَرُوا۟ and emigrated وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ and strove hard بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ with their wealth وَأَنفُسِهِمْ and their lives فِى in سَبِيلِ (the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah وَٱلَّذِينَ and those who ءَاوَوا۟ gave shelter وَّنَصَرُوٓا۟ and helped أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those بَعْضُهُمْ some of them أَوْلِيَآءُ (are) allies بَعْضٍۢ ۚ (of) another وَٱلَّذِينَ But those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believed وَلَمْ and (did) not يُهَاجِرُوا۟ emigrate مَا (it is) not لَكُم for you مِّن (of) وَلَـٰيَتِهِم their protection مِّن (in) شَىْءٍ (in) anything حَتَّىٰ until يُهَاجِرُوا۟ ۚ they emigrate وَإِنِ And if ٱسْتَنصَرُوكُمْ they seek your help فِى in ٱلدِّينِ the religion فَعَلَيْكُمُ then upon you ٱلنَّصْرُ (is to) help them إِلَّا except عَلَىٰ against قَوْمٍۭ a people بَيْنَكُمْ between you وَبَيْنَهُم and between them مِّيثَـٰقٌۭ ۗ (is) a treaty وَٱللَّهُ And Allah بِمَا of what تَعْمَلُونَ you do بَصِيرٌۭ (is) All-Seer ٧٢ (72)

Indeed, those who have believed and emigrated and fought with their wealth and lives in the cause of Allāh and those who gave shelter and aided - they are allies of one another. But those who believed and did not emigrate - for you there is no support of them until they emigrate. And if they seek help of you for the religion, then you must help, except against a people between yourselves and whom is a treaty. And Allāh is Seeing of what you do.

٨:٧٣

وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve بَعْضُهُمْ some of them أَوْلِيَآءُ (are) allies بَعْضٍ ۚ (to) another إِلَّا If not تَفْعَلُوهُ you do it تَكُن (there) will be فِتْنَةٌۭ oppression فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth وَفَسَادٌۭ and corruption كَبِيرٌۭ great ٧٣ (73)

And those who disbelieved are allies of one another. If you do not do so [i.e., ally yourselves with other believers], there will be fitnah [i.e., disbelief and oppression] on earth and great corruption.

٨:٧٤

وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believed وَهَاجَرُوا۟ and emigrated وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ and strove hard فِى in سَبِيلِ (the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah وَٱلَّذِينَ and those who ءَاوَوا۟ gave shelter وَّنَصَرُوٓا۟ and helped أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those هُمُ they (are) ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ the believers حَقًّۭا ۚ (in) truth لَّهُم For them مَّغْفِرَةٌۭ (is) forgiveness وَرِزْقٌۭ and a provision كَرِيمٌۭ noble ٧٤ (74)

But those who have believed and emigrated and fought in the cause of Allāh and those who gave shelter and aided - it is they who are the believers, truly. For them is forgiveness and noble provision.

٨:٧٥

وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believed مِنۢ from بَعْدُ afterwards وَهَاجَرُوا۟ and emigrated وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ and strove hard مَعَكُمْ with you فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those مِنكُمْ ۚ (are) of you وَأُو۟لُوا۟ But those ٱلْأَرْحَامِ (of) blood relationship بَعْضُهُمْ some of them أَوْلَىٰ (are) nearer بِبَعْضٍۢ to another فِى in كِتَـٰبِ (the) Book ٱللَّهِ ۗ (of) Allah إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah بِكُلِّ of every شَىْءٍ thing عَلِيمٌۢ (is) All-Knower ٧٥ (75)

And those who believed after [the initial emigration] and emigrated and fought with you - they are of you. But those of [blood] relationship are more entitled [to inheritance] in the decree of Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing of all things.
