Bismillah
بِسْمِ In (the) name bis'mi
In (the) name
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
8:1
يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ They ask you yasalūnaka
They ask you
عَنِ about ʿani
about
ٱلْأَنفَالِ ۖ the spoils of war l-anfāli
the spoils of war
قُلِ Say quli
Say
ٱلْأَنفَالُ The spoils of war l-anfālu
The spoils of war
لِلَّهِ (are) for Allah lillahi
(are) for Allah
وَٱلرَّسُولِ ۖ and the Messenger wal-rasūli
and the Messenger
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear fa-ittaqū
So fear
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
وَأَصْلِحُوا۟ and set right wa-aṣliḥū
and set right
ذَاتَ that dhāta
that
بَيْنِكُمْ ۖ (which is) between you baynikum
(which is) between you
وَأَطِيعُوا۟ and obey wa-aṭīʿū
and obey
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
وَرَسُولَهُۥٓ and His Messenger warasūlahu
and His Messenger
إِن if in
if
كُنتُم you are kuntum
you are
مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers mu'minīna
believers
١ (1)
(1)
They ask you, [O Muḥammad], about the bounties [of war]. Say, "The [decision concerning] bounties is for Allāh and the Messenger." So fear Allāh and amend that which is between you and obey Allāh and His Messenger, if you should be believers.
8:2
إِنَّمَا Only innamā
Only
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ the believers l-mu'minūna
the believers
ٱلَّذِينَ (are) those who alladhīna
(are) those who
إِذَا when idhā
when
ذُكِرَ is mentioned dhukira
is mentioned
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
وَجِلَتْ feel fear wajilat
feel fear
قُلُوبُهُمْ their hearts qulūbuhum
their hearts
وَإِذَا and when wa-idhā
and when
تُلِيَتْ are recited tuliyat
are recited
عَلَيْهِمْ to them ʿalayhim
to them
ءَايَـٰتُهُۥ His Verses āyātuhu
His Verses
زَادَتْهُمْ they increase them zādathum
they increase them
إِيمَـٰنًۭا (in) faith īmānan
(in) faith
وَعَلَىٰ and upon waʿalā
and upon
رَبِّهِمْ their Lord rabbihim
their Lord
يَتَوَكَّلُونَ they put their trust yatawakkalūna
they put their trust
٢ (2)
(2)
The believers are only those who, when Allāh is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely -
8:3
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who
يُقِيمُونَ establish yuqīmūna
establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer l-ṣalata
the prayer
وَمِمَّا and out of what wamimmā
and out of what
رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ We have provided them razaqnāhum
We have provided them
يُنفِقُونَ they spend yunfiqūna
they spend
٣ (3)
(3)
The ones who establish prayer, and from what We have provided them, they spend.
8:4
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
هُمُ they are humu
they are
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ the believers l-mu'minūna
the believers
حَقًّۭا ۚ (in) truth ḥaqqan
(in) truth
لَّهُمْ For them lahum
For them
دَرَجَـٰتٌ (are) ranks darajātun
(are) ranks
عِندَ with ʿinda
with
رَبِّهِمْ their Lord rabbihim
their Lord
وَمَغْفِرَةٌۭ and forgiveness wamaghfiratun
and forgiveness
وَرِزْقٌۭ and a provision wariz'qun
and a provision
كَرِيمٌۭ noble karīmun
noble
٤ (4)
(4)
Those are the believers, truly. For them are degrees [of high position] with their Lord and forgiveness and noble provision.
8:5
كَمَآ As kamā
As
أَخْرَجَكَ brought you out akhrajaka
brought you out
رَبُّكَ your Lord rabbuka
your Lord
مِنۢ from min
from
بَيْتِكَ your home baytika
your home
بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth bil-ḥaqi
in truth
وَإِنَّ while indeed wa-inna
while indeed
فَرِيقًۭا a party farīqan
a party
مِّنَ among mina
among
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers l-mu'minīna
the believers
لَكَـٰرِهُونَ certainly disliked lakārihūna
certainly disliked
٥ (5)
(5)
[It is] just as when your Lord brought you out of your home [for the battle of Badr] in truth, while indeed, a party among the believers were unwilling,
8:6
يُجَـٰدِلُونَكَ They dispute with you yujādilūnaka
They dispute with you
فِى concerning
concerning
ٱلْحَقِّ the truth l-ḥaqi
the truth
بَعْدَ مَا after what baʿdamā
after what
تَبَيَّنَ was made clear tabayyana
was made clear
كَأَنَّمَا as if ka-annamā
as if
يُسَاقُونَ they were driven yusāqūna
they were driven
إِلَى to ilā
to
ٱلْمَوْتِ [the] death l-mawti
[the] death
وَهُمْ while they wahum
while they
يَنظُرُونَ (were) looking yanẓurūna
(were) looking
٦ (6)
(6)
Arguing with you concerning the truth after it had become clear, as if they were being driven toward death while they were looking on.
8:7
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when
يَعِدُكُمُ promised you yaʿidukumu
promised you
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
إِحْدَى one iḥ'dā
one
ٱلطَّآئِفَتَيْنِ (of) the two groups l-ṭāifatayni
(of) the two groups
أَنَّهَا that it (would be) annahā
that it (would be)
لَكُمْ for you lakum
for you
وَتَوَدُّونَ and you wished watawaddūna
and you wished
أَنَّ that anna
that
غَيْرَ (one) other than ghayra
(one) other than
ذَاتِ that dhāti
that
ٱلشَّوْكَةِ (of) the armed l-shawkati
(of) the armed
تَكُونُ would be takūnu
would be
لَكُمْ for you lakum
for you
وَيُرِيدُ But intended wayurīdu
But intended
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
أَن to an
to
يُحِقَّ justify yuḥiqqa
justify
ٱلْحَقَّ the truth l-ḥaqa
the truth
بِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ by His words bikalimātihi
by His words
وَيَقْطَعَ and cut off wayaqṭaʿa
and cut off
دَابِرَ (the) roots dābira
(the) roots
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ (of) the disbelievers l-kāfirīna
(of) the disbelievers
٧ (7)
(7)
[Remember, O believers], when Allāh promised you one of the two groups - that it would be yours - and you wished that the unarmed one would be yours. But Allāh intended to establish the truth by His words and to eliminate the disbelievers
8:8
لِيُحِقَّ That He might justify liyuḥiqqa
That He might justify
ٱلْحَقَّ the truth l-ḥaqa
the truth
وَيُبْطِلَ and prove false wayub'ṭila
and prove false
ٱلْبَـٰطِلَ the falsehood l-bāṭila
the falsehood
وَلَوْ even if walaw
even if
كَرِهَ disliked (it) kariha
disliked (it)
ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ the criminals l-muj'rimūna
the criminals
٨ (8)
(8)
That He should establish the truth and abolish falsehood, even if the criminals disliked it.
8:9
إِذْ When idh
When
تَسْتَغِيثُونَ you were seeking help tastaghīthūna
you were seeking help
رَبَّكُمْ (of) your Lord rabbakum
(of) your Lord
فَٱسْتَجَابَ and He answered fa-is'tajāba
and He answered
لَكُمْ [to] you lakum
[to] you
أَنِّى Indeed, I am annī
Indeed, I am
مُمِدُّكُم going to reinforce you mumiddukum
going to reinforce you
بِأَلْفٍۢ with a thousand bi-alfin
with a thousand
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ the Angels l-malāikati
the Angels
مُرْدِفِينَ one after another mur'difīna
one after another
٩ (9)
(9)
[Remember] when you were asking help of your Lord, and He answered you, "Indeed, I will reinforce you with a thousand from the angels, following one another."
8:10
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
جَعَلَهُ (it was) made jaʿalahu
(it was) made
ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah l-lahu
(by) Allah
إِلَّا but illā
but
بُشْرَىٰ good tidings bush'rā
good tidings
وَلِتَطْمَئِنَّ and so that might be at rest walitaṭma-inna
and so that might be at rest
بِهِۦ with it bihi
with it
قُلُوبُكُمْ ۚ your hearts qulūbukum
your hearts
وَمَا And (there is) no wamā
And (there is) no
ٱلنَّصْرُ [the] victory l-naṣru
[the] victory
إِلَّا except illā
except
مِنْ from min
from
عِندِ [of] ʿindi
[of]
ٱللَّهِ ۚ Allah l-lahi
Allah
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
عَزِيزٌ (is) All-Mighty ʿazīzun
(is) All-Mighty
حَكِيمٌ All-Wise ḥakīmun
All-Wise
١٠ (10)
(10)
And Allāh made it not but good tidings and so that your hearts would be assured thereby. And victory is not but from Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.
8:11
إِذْ When idh
When
يُغَشِّيكُمُ He covered you yughashīkumu
He covered you
ٱلنُّعَاسَ with [the] slumber l-nuʿāsa
with [the] slumber
أَمَنَةًۭ a security amanatan
a security
مِّنْهُ from Him min'hu
from Him
وَيُنَزِّلُ and sent down wayunazzilu
and sent down
عَلَيْكُم upon you ʿalaykum
upon you
مِّنَ from mina
from
ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky l-samāi
the sky
مَآءًۭ water māan
water
لِّيُطَهِّرَكُم so that He may purify you liyuṭahhirakum
so that He may purify you
بِهِۦ with it bihi
with it
وَيُذْهِبَ and take away wayudh'hiba
and take away
عَنكُمْ from you ʿankum
from you
رِجْزَ evil (suggestions) rij'za
evil (suggestions)
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ (of) the Shaitaan l-shayṭāni
(of) the Shaitaan
وَلِيَرْبِطَ And to strengthen waliyarbiṭa
And to strengthen
عَلَىٰ [on] ʿalā
[on]
قُلُوبِكُمْ your hearts qulūbikum
your hearts
وَيُثَبِّتَ and make firm wayuthabbita
and make firm
بِهِ with it bihi
with it
ٱلْأَقْدَامَ your feet l-aqdāma
your feet
١١ (11)
(11)
[Remember] when He overwhelmed you with drowsiness [giving] security from Him and sent down upon you from the sky, rain by which to purify you and remove from you the evil [suggestions] of Satan and to make steadfast your hearts and plant firmly thereby your feet.
8:12
إِذْ When idh
When
يُوحِى inspired yūḥī
inspired
رَبُّكَ your Lord rabbuka
your Lord
إِلَى to ilā
to
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ the Angels l-malāikati
the Angels
أَنِّى I am annī
I am
مَعَكُمْ with you maʿakum
with you
فَثَبِّتُوا۟ so strengthen fathabbitū
so strengthen
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ ۚ believed āmanū
believed
سَأُلْقِى I will cast sa-ul'qī
I will cast
فِى in
in
قُلُوبِ (the) hearts qulūbi
(the) hearts
ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who alladhīna
(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved
ٱلرُّعْبَ the terror l-ruʿ'ba
the terror
فَٱضْرِبُوا۟ so strike fa-iḍ'ribū
so strike
فَوْقَ above fawqa
above
ٱلْأَعْنَاقِ the necks l-aʿnāqi
the necks
وَٱضْرِبُوا۟ and strike wa-iḍ'ribū
and strike
مِنْهُمْ from them min'hum
from them
كُلَّ every kulla
every
بَنَانٍۢ fingertip[s] banānin
fingertip[s]
١٢ (12)
(12)
[Remember] when your Lord inspired to the angels, "I am with you, so strengthen those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved, so strike [them] upon the necks and strike from them every fingertip."1
8:13
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
بِأَنَّهُمْ (is) because they bi-annahum
(is) because they
شَآقُّوا۟ opposed shāqqū
opposed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
وَرَسُولَهُۥ ۚ and His Messenger warasūlahu
and His Messenger
وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever
يُشَاقِقِ opposes yushāqiqi
opposes
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
وَرَسُولَهُۥ and His Messenger warasūlahu
and His Messenger
فَإِنَّ then indeed fa-inna
then indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
شَدِيدُ (is) severe shadīdu
(is) severe
ٱلْعِقَابِ in [the] penalty l-ʿiqābi
in [the] penalty
١٣ (13)
(13)
That is because they opposed Allāh and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allāh and His Messenger - indeed, Allāh is severe in penalty.
8:14
ذَٰلِكُمْ That dhālikum
That
فَذُوقُوهُ So taste it fadhūqūhu
So taste it
وَأَنَّ And that wa-anna
And that
لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ for the disbelievers lil'kāfirīna
for the disbelievers
عَذَابَ (is the) punishment ʿadhāba
(is the) punishment
ٱلنَّارِ (of) the Fire l-nāri
(of) the Fire
١٤ (14)
(14)
"That [is yours], so taste it." And indeed for the disbelievers is the punishment of the Fire.
8:15
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ who alladhīna
who
ءَامَنُوٓا۟ believe āmanū
believe
إِذَا When idhā
When
لَقِيتُمُ you meet laqītumu
you meet
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
زَحْفًۭا advancing zaḥfan
advancing
فَلَا then (do) not falā
then (do) not
تُوَلُّوهُمُ turn to them tuwallūhumu
turn to them
ٱلْأَدْبَارَ the backs l-adbāra
the backs
١٥ (15)
(15)
O you who have believed, when you meet those who disbelieve advancing [in battle], do not turn to them your backs [in flight].
8:16
وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever
يُوَلِّهِمْ turns to them yuwallihim
turns to them
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ that day yawma-idhin
that day
دُبُرَهُۥٓ his back duburahu
his back
إِلَّا except illā
except
مُتَحَرِّفًۭا (as) a strategy mutaḥarrifan
(as) a strategy
لِّقِتَالٍ of war liqitālin
of war
أَوْ or aw
or
مُتَحَيِّزًا (to) join mutaḥayyizan
(to) join
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
فِئَةٍۢ a group fi-atin
a group
فَقَدْ certainly faqad
certainly
بَآءَ (he has) incurred bāa
(he has) incurred
بِغَضَبٍۢ wrath bighaḍabin
wrath
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
وَمَأْوَىٰهُ and his abode wamawāhu
and his abode
جَهَنَّمُ ۖ (is) Hell jahannamu
(is) Hell
وَبِئْسَ a wretched wabi'sa
a wretched
ٱلْمَصِيرُ destination l-maṣīru
destination
١٦ (16)
(16)
And whoever turns his back to them on such a day, unless swerving [as a strategy] for war or joining [another] company, has certainly returned with anger [upon him] from Allāh, and his refuge is Hell - and wretched is the destination.
8:17
فَلَمْ And not falam
And not
تَقْتُلُوهُمْ you kill them taqtulūhum
you kill them
وَلَـٰكِنَّ but walākinna
but
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
قَتَلَهُمْ ۚ killed them qatalahum
killed them
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
رَمَيْتَ you threw ramayta
you threw
إِذْ when idh
when
رَمَيْتَ you threw ramayta
you threw
وَلَـٰكِنَّ but walākinna
but
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
رَمَىٰ ۚ threw ramā
threw
وَلِيُبْلِىَ and that He may test waliyub'liya
and that He may test
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers l-mu'minīna
the believers
مِنْهُ from Him min'hu
from Him
بَلَآءً (with) a trial balāan
(with) a trial
حَسَنًا ۚ good ḥasanan
good
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
سَمِيعٌ (is) All-Hearing samīʿun
(is) All-Hearing
عَلِيمٌۭ All-Knowing ʿalīmun
All-Knowing
١٧ (17)
(17)
And you did not kill them, but it was Allāh who killed them. And you threw not, [O Muḥammad], when you threw, but it was Allāh who threw that He might test the believers with a good test. Indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.
8:18
ذَٰلِكُمْ That (is the case) dhālikum
That (is the case)
وَأَنَّ and that wa-anna
and that
ٱللَّهَ Allah (is) l-laha
Allah (is)
مُوهِنُ one who makes weak mūhinu
one who makes weak
كَيْدِ (the) plan kaydi
(the) plan
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ (of) the disbelievers l-kāfirīna
(of) the disbelievers
١٨ (18)
(18)
That [is so], and [also] that Allāh will weaken the plot of the disbelievers.
8:19
إِن If in
If
تَسْتَفْتِحُوا۟ you ask for victory tastaftiḥū
you ask for victory
فَقَدْ then certainly faqad
then certainly
جَآءَكُمُ has come to you jāakumu
has come to you
ٱلْفَتْحُ ۖ the victory l-fatḥu
the victory
وَإِن And if wa-in
And if
تَنتَهُوا۟ you desist tantahū
you desist
فَهُوَ then it (is) fahuwa
then it (is)
خَيْرٌۭ good khayrun
good
لَّكُمْ ۖ for you lakum
for you
وَإِن but if wa-in
but if
تَعُودُوا۟ you return taʿūdū
you return
نَعُدْ We will return (too) naʿud
We will return (too)
وَلَن And never walan
And never
تُغْنِىَ will avail tugh'niya
will avail
عَنكُمْ you ʿankum
you
فِئَتُكُمْ your forces fi-atukum
your forces
شَيْـًۭٔا anything shayan
anything
وَلَوْ even if walaw
even if
كَثُرَتْ (they are) numerous kathurat
(they are) numerous
وَأَنَّ And that wa-anna
And that
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
مَعَ (is) with maʿa
(is) with
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers l-mu'minīna
the believers
١٩ (19)
(19)
If you [disbelievers] seek the decision [i.e., victory] - the decision [i.e., defeat] has come to you. And if you desist [from hostilities], it is best for you; but if you return [to war], We will return, and never will you be availed by your [large] company at all, even if it should increase; and [that is] because Allāh is with the believers.
8:20
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ who alladhīna
who
ءَامَنُوٓا۟ believe āmanū
believe
أَطِيعُوا۟ Obey aṭīʿū
Obey
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
وَرَسُولَهُۥ and His Messenger warasūlahu
and His Messenger
وَلَا And (do) not walā
And (do) not
تَوَلَّوْا۟ turn away tawallaw
turn away
عَنْهُ from him ʿanhu
from him
وَأَنتُمْ while you wa-antum
while you
تَسْمَعُونَ hear tasmaʿūna
hear
٢٠ (20)
(20)
O you who have believed, obey Allāh and His Messenger and do not turn from him while you hear [his order].
8:21
وَلَا And (do) not walā
And (do) not
تَكُونُوا۟ be takūnū
be
كَٱلَّذِينَ like those who ka-alladhīna
like those who
قَالُوا۟ say qālū
say
سَمِعْنَا We heard samiʿ'nā
We heard
وَهُمْ while they wahum
while they
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يَسْمَعُونَ hear yasmaʿūna
hear
٢١ (21)
(21)
And do not be like those who say, "We have heard," while they do not hear.
8:22
۞ إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
شَرَّ worst sharra
worst
ٱلدَّوَآبِّ (of) the living creatures l-dawābi
(of) the living creatures
عِندَ near ʿinda
near
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
ٱلصُّمُّ (are) the deaf l-ṣumu
(are) the deaf
ٱلْبُكْمُ the dumb l-buk'mu
the dumb
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يَعْقِلُونَ use (their) intellect yaʿqilūna
use (their) intellect
٢٢ (22)
(22)
Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allāh are the deaf and dumb who do not use reason [i.e., the disbelievers].
8:23
وَلَوْ And if walaw
And if
عَلِمَ (had) known ʿalima
(had) known
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
فِيهِمْ in them fīhim
in them
خَيْرًۭا any good khayran
any good
لَّأَسْمَعَهُمْ ۖ surely, He (would) have made them hear la-asmaʿahum
surely, He (would) have made them hear
وَلَوْ And if walaw
And if
أَسْمَعَهُمْ He had made them hear asmaʿahum
He had made them hear
لَتَوَلَّوا۟ surely they would have turned away latawallaw
surely they would have turned away
وَّهُم while they wahum
while they
مُّعْرِضُونَ (were) averse muʿ'riḍūna
(were) averse
٢٣ (23)
(23)
Had Allāh known any good in them, He would have made them hear. And if He had made them hear, they would [still] have turned away, while they were refusing.
8:24
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ who alladhīna
who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
ٱسْتَجِيبُوا۟ Respond is'tajībū
Respond
لِلَّهِ to Allah lillahi
to Allah
وَلِلرَّسُولِ and His Messenger walilrrasūli
and His Messenger
إِذَا when idhā
when
دَعَاكُمْ he calls you daʿākum
he calls you
لِمَا to what limā
to what
يُحْيِيكُمْ ۖ gives you life yuḥ'yīkum
gives you life
وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ And know wa-iʿ'lamū
And know
أَنَّ that anna
that
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
يَحُولُ comes yaḥūlu
comes
بَيْنَ (in) between bayna
(in) between
ٱلْمَرْءِ a man l-mari
a man
وَقَلْبِهِۦ and his heart waqalbihi
and his heart
وَأَنَّهُۥٓ and that wa-annahu
and that
إِلَيْهِ to Him ilayhi
to Him
تُحْشَرُونَ you will be gathered tuḥ'sharūna
you will be gathered
٢٤ (24)
(24)
O you who have believed, respond to Allāh and to the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life. And know that Allāh intervenes between a man and his heart and that to Him you will be gathered.
8:25
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ And fear wa-ittaqū
And fear
فِتْنَةًۭ a trial fit'natan
a trial
لَّا not
not
تُصِيبَنَّ which will afflict tuṣībanna
which will afflict
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ظَلَمُوا۟ do wrong ẓalamū
do wrong
مِنكُمْ among you minkum
among you
خَآصَّةًۭ ۖ exclusively khāṣṣatan
exclusively
وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ And know wa-iʿ'lamū
And know
أَنَّ that anna
that
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
شَدِيدُ (is) severe shadīdu
(is) severe
ٱلْعِقَابِ (in) the penalty l-ʿiqābi
(in) the penalty
٢٥ (25)
(25)
And fear a trial which will not strike those who have wronged among you exclusively, and know that Allāh is severe in penalty.
8:26
وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟ And remember wa-udh'kurū
And remember
إِذْ when idh
when
أَنتُمْ you antum
you
قَلِيلٌۭ (were) few qalīlun
(were) few
مُّسْتَضْعَفُونَ (and) deemed weak mus'taḍʿafūna
(and) deemed weak
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
تَخَافُونَ fearing takhāfūna
fearing
أَن that an
that
يَتَخَطَّفَكُمُ might do away with you yatakhaṭṭafakumu
might do away with you
ٱلنَّاسُ the men l-nāsu
the men
فَـَٔاوَىٰكُمْ then He sheltered you faāwākum
then He sheltered you
وَأَيَّدَكُم and strengthened you wa-ayyadakum
and strengthened you
بِنَصْرِهِۦ with His help binaṣrihi
with His help
وَرَزَقَكُم and provided you warazaqakum
and provided you
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ the good things l-ṭayibāti
the good things
لَعَلَّكُمْ so that you may laʿallakum
so that you may
تَشْكُرُونَ (be) thankful tashkurūna
(be) thankful
٢٦ (26)
(26)
And remember when you were few and oppressed in the land, fearing that people might abduct you, but He sheltered you, supported you with His victory, and provided you with good things - that you might be grateful.
8:27
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ who alladhīna
who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
لَا (Do) not
(Do) not
تَخُونُوا۟ betray takhūnū
betray
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
وَٱلرَّسُولَ and the Messenger wal-rasūla
and the Messenger
وَتَخُونُوٓا۟ or betray watakhūnū
or betray
أَمَـٰنَـٰتِكُمْ your trusts amānātikum
your trusts
وَأَنتُمْ while you wa-antum
while you
تَعْلَمُونَ know taʿlamūna
know
٢٧ (27)
(27)
O you who have believed, do not betray Allāh and the Messenger or betray your trusts while you know [the consequence].
8:28
وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ And know wa-iʿ'lamū
And know
أَنَّمَآ that annamā
that
أَمْوَٰلُكُمْ your wealth amwālukum
your wealth
وَأَوْلَـٰدُكُمْ and your children wa-awlādukum
and your children
فِتْنَةٌۭ (are) a trial fit'natun
(are) a trial
وَأَنَّ And that wa-anna
And that
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
عِندَهُۥٓ with Him ʿindahu
with Him
أَجْرٌ (is) a reward ajrun
(is) a reward
عَظِيمٌۭ great ʿaẓīmun
great
٢٨ (28)
(28)
And know that your properties and your children are but a trial and that Allāh has with Him a great reward.
8:29
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ who alladhīna
who
ءَامَنُوٓا۟ believe āmanū
believe
إِن If in
If
تَتَّقُوا۟ you fear tattaqū
you fear
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
يَجْعَل He will grant yajʿal
He will grant
لَّكُمْ you lakum
you
فُرْقَانًۭا a criterion fur'qānan
a criterion
وَيُكَفِّرْ and will remove wayukaffir
and will remove
عَنكُمْ from you ʿankum
from you
سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْ your evil deeds sayyiātikum
your evil deeds
وَيَغْفِرْ and forgive wayaghfir
and forgive
لَكُمْ ۗ you lakum
you
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
ذُو (is) the Possessor dhū
(is) the Possessor
ٱلْفَضْلِ (of) Bounty l-faḍli
(of) Bounty
ٱلْعَظِيمِ the Great l-ʿaẓīmi
the Great
٢٩ (29)
(29)
O you who have believed, if you fear Allāh, He will grant you a criterion and will remove from you your misdeeds and forgive you. And Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.
8:30
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when
يَمْكُرُ plotted yamkuru
plotted
بِكَ against you bika
against you
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved
لِيُثْبِتُوكَ that they restrain you liyuth'bitūka
that they restrain you
أَوْ or aw
or
يَقْتُلُوكَ kill you yaqtulūka
kill you
أَوْ or aw
or
يُخْرِجُوكَ ۚ drive you out yukh'rijūka
drive you out
وَيَمْكُرُونَ And they were planning wayamkurūna
And they were planning
وَيَمْكُرُ and (also) was planning wayamkuru
and (also) was planning
ٱللَّهُ ۖ Allah l-lahu
Allah
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
خَيْرُ is (the) Best khayru
is (the) Best
ٱلْمَـٰكِرِينَ (of) the Planners l-mākirīna
(of) the Planners
٣٠ (30)
(30)
And [remember, O Muḥammad], when those who disbelieved plotted against you to restrain you or kill you or evict you [from Makkah]. But they plan, and Allāh plans. And Allāh is the best of planners.
8:31
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when
تُتْلَىٰ are recited tut'lā
are recited
عَلَيْهِمْ to them ʿalayhim
to them
ءَايَـٰتُنَا Our Verses āyātunā
Our Verses
قَالُوا۟ they say qālū
they say
قَدْ Verily qad
Verily
سَمِعْنَا we have heard samiʿ'nā
we have heard
لَوْ if law
if
نَشَآءُ we wish nashāu
we wish
لَقُلْنَا surely, we could say laqul'nā
surely, we could say
مِثْلَ like mith'la
like
هَـٰذَآ ۙ this hādhā
this
إِنْ Not in
Not
هَـٰذَآ is this hādhā
is this
إِلَّآ but illā
but
أَسَـٰطِيرُ tales asāṭīru
tales
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (of) the former (people) l-awalīna
(of) the former (people)
٣١ (31)
(31)
And when Our verses are recited to them, they say, "We have heard. If we willed, we could say [something] like this. This is not but legends of the former peoples."
8:32
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when
قَالُوا۟ they said qālū
they said
ٱللَّهُمَّ O Allah l-lahuma
O Allah
إِن If in
If
كَانَ was kāna
was
هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this
هُوَ [it] huwa
[it]
ٱلْحَقَّ the truth l-ḥaqa
the truth
مِنْ [of] min
[of]
عِندِكَ from You ʿindika
from You
فَأَمْطِرْ then (send) rain fa-amṭir
then (send) rain
عَلَيْنَا upon us ʿalaynā
upon us
حِجَارَةًۭ (of) stones ḥijāratan
(of) stones
مِّنَ from mina
from
ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky l-samāi
the sky
أَوِ or awi
or
ٱئْتِنَا bring (upon) us i'tinā
bring (upon) us
بِعَذَابٍ a punishment biʿadhābin
a punishment
أَلِيمٍۢ painful alīmin
painful
٣٢ (32)
(32)
And [remember] when they said, "O Allāh, if this should be the truth from You, then rain down upon us stones from the sky or bring us a painful punishment."
8:33
وَمَا But not wamā
But not
كَانَ is kāna
is
ٱللَّهُ (for) Allah l-lahu
(for) Allah
لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ that He punishes them liyuʿadhibahum
that He punishes them
وَأَنتَ while you wa-anta
while you
فِيهِمْ ۚ (are) among them fīhim
(are) among them
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
كَانَ is kāna
is
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
مُعَذِّبَهُمْ the One Who punishes them muʿadhibahum
the One Who punishes them
وَهُمْ while they wahum
while they
يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ seek forgiveness yastaghfirūna
seek forgiveness
٣٣ (33)
(33)
But Allāh would not punish them while you, [O Muḥammad], are among them, and Allāh would not punish them while they seek forgiveness.
8:34
وَمَا But what wamā
But what
لَهُمْ (is) for them lahum
(is) for them
أَلَّا that not allā
that not
يُعَذِّبَهُمُ (should) punish them yuʿadhibahumu
(should) punish them
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
وَهُمْ while they wahum
while they
يَصُدُّونَ hinder (people) yaṣuddūna
hinder (people)
عَنِ from ʿani
from
ٱلْمَسْجِدِ Al-Masjid l-masjidi
Al-Masjid
ٱلْحَرَامِ Al-Haraam l-ḥarāmi
Al-Haraam
وَمَا while not wamā
while not
كَانُوٓا۟ they are kānū
they are
أَوْلِيَآءَهُۥٓ ۚ its guardians awliyāahu
its guardians
إِنْ Not (can be) in
Not (can be)
أَوْلِيَآؤُهُۥٓ its guardians awliyāuhu
its guardians
إِلَّا except illā
except
ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ the ones who fear Allah l-mutaqūna
the ones who fear Allah
وَلَـٰكِنَّ but walākinna
but
أَكْثَرَهُمْ most of them aktharahum
most of them
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَ know yaʿlamūna
know
٣٤ (34)
(34)
But why should Allāh not punish them while they obstruct [people] from al-Masjid al-Ḥarām and they were not [fit to be] its guardians? Its [true] guardians are not but the righteous, but most of them do not know.
8:35
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
كَانَ was kāna
was
صَلَاتُهُمْ their prayer ṣalātuhum
their prayer
عِندَ at ʿinda
at
ٱلْبَيْتِ the House l-bayti
the House
إِلَّا except illā
except
مُكَآءًۭ whistling mukāan
whistling
وَتَصْدِيَةًۭ ۚ and clapping wataṣdiyatan
and clapping
فَذُوقُوا۟ So taste fadhūqū
So taste
ٱلْعَذَابَ the punishment l-ʿadhāba
the punishment
بِمَا because bimā
because
كُنتُمْ you used to kuntum
you used to
تَكْفُرُونَ disbelieve takfurūna
disbelieve
٣٥ (35)
(35)
And their prayer at the House [i.e., the Kaʿbah] was not except whistling and handclapping. So taste the punishment for what you disbelieved [i.e., practiced of deviations].
8:36
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
يُنفِقُونَ they spend yunfiqūna
they spend
أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ their wealth amwālahum
their wealth
لِيَصُدُّوا۟ to hinder (people) liyaṣuddū
to hinder (people)
عَن from ʿan
from
سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ ۚ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
فَسَيُنفِقُونَهَا So they will spend it fasayunfiqūnahā
So they will spend it
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
تَكُونُ it will be takūnu
it will be
عَلَيْهِمْ for them ʿalayhim
for them
حَسْرَةًۭ a regret ḥasratan
a regret
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
يُغْلَبُونَ ۗ they will be overcome yugh'labūna
they will be overcome
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
كَفَرُوٓا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
جَهَنَّمَ Hell jahannama
Hell
يُحْشَرُونَ they will be gathered yuḥ'sharūna
they will be gathered
٣٦ (36)
(36)
Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to avert [people] from the way of Allāh. So they will spend it; then it will be for them a [source of] regret; then they will be overcome. And those who have disbelieved - unto Hell they will be gathered.
8:37
لِيَمِيزَ That may distinguish liyamīza
That may distinguish
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
ٱلْخَبِيثَ the wicked l-khabītha
the wicked
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلطَّيِّبِ the good l-ṭayibi
the good
وَيَجْعَلَ and place wayajʿala
and place
ٱلْخَبِيثَ the wicked l-khabītha
the wicked
بَعْضَهُۥ some of them baʿḍahu
some of them
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
بَعْضٍۢ others baʿḍin
others
فَيَرْكُمَهُۥ and heap them fayarkumahu
and heap them
جَمِيعًۭا all together jamīʿan
all together
فَيَجْعَلَهُۥ and put them fayajʿalahu
and put them
فِى in
in
جَهَنَّمَ ۚ Hell jahannama
Hell
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
هُمُ they humu
they
ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ (are) the losers l-khāsirūna
(are) the losers
٣٧ (37)
(37)
[It is] so that Allāh may distinguish the wicked from the good and place the wicked some of them upon others and heap them all together and put them into Hell. It is those who are the losers.
8:38
قُل Say qul
Say
لِّلَّذِينَ to those who lilladhīna
to those who
كَفَرُوٓا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
إِن if in
if
يَنتَهُوا۟ they cease yantahū
they cease
يُغْفَرْ will be forgiven yugh'far
will be forgiven
لَهُم for them lahum
for them
مَّا what
what
قَدْ [verily] qad
[verily]
سَلَفَ (is) past salafa
(is) past
وَإِن But if wa-in
But if
يَعُودُوا۟ they return yaʿūdū
they return
فَقَدْ then verily faqad
then verily
مَضَتْ preceded maḍat
preceded
سُنَّتُ (the) practice sunnatu
(the) practice
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (of) the former (people) l-awalīna
(of) the former (people)
٣٨ (38)
(38)
Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them. But if they return [to hostility] - then the precedent of the former [rebellious] peoples has already taken place.
8:39
وَقَـٰتِلُوهُمْ And fight them waqātilūhum
And fight them
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
لَا not
not
تَكُونَ there is takūna
there is
فِتْنَةٌۭ oppression fit'natun
oppression
وَيَكُونَ and is wayakūna
and is
ٱلدِّينُ the religion l-dīnu
the religion
كُلُّهُۥ all of it kulluhu
all of it
لِلَّهِ ۚ for Allah lillahi
for Allah
فَإِنِ But if fa-ini
But if
ٱنتَهَوْا۟ they cease intahaw
they cease
فَإِنَّ then indeed fa-inna
then indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
بِمَا of what bimā
of what
يَعْمَلُونَ they do yaʿmalūna
they do
بَصِيرٌۭ (is) All-Seer baṣīrun
(is) All-Seer
٣٩ (39)
(39)
And fight against them until there is no fitnah and [until] the religion [i.e., worship], all of it, is for Allāh. And if they cease - then indeed, Allāh is Seeing of what they do.
8:40
وَإِن And if wa-in
And if
تَوَلَّوْا۟ they turn away tawallaw
they turn away
فَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ then know fa-iʿ'lamū
then know
أَنَّ that anna
that
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
مَوْلَىٰكُمْ ۚ (is) your Protector mawlākum
(is) your Protector
نِعْمَ Excellent niʿ'ma
Excellent
ٱلْمَوْلَىٰ (is) the Protector l-mawlā
(is) the Protector
وَنِعْمَ and Excellent waniʿ'ma
and Excellent
ٱلنَّصِيرُ (is) the Helper l-naṣīru
(is) the Helper
٤٠ (40)
(40)
But if they turn away - then know that Allāh is your protector. Excellent is the protector, and excellent is the helper.
8:41
۞ وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ And know wa-iʿ'lamū
And know
أَنَّمَا that what annamā
that what
غَنِمْتُم you obtain (as) spoils of war ghanim'tum
you obtain (as) spoils of war
مِّن of min
of
شَىْءٍۢ anything shayin
anything
فَأَنَّ then that fa-anna
then that
لِلَّهِ for Allah lillahi
for Allah
خُمُسَهُۥ (is) one fifth of it khumusahu
(is) one fifth of it
وَلِلرَّسُولِ and for the Messenger walilrrasūli
and for the Messenger
وَلِذِى and for the walidhī
and for the
ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ near relatives l-qur'bā
near relatives
وَٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ and the orphans wal-yatāmā
and the orphans
وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينِ and the needy wal-masākīni
and the needy
وَٱبْنِ and the wa-ib'ni
and the
ٱلسَّبِيلِ wayfarer l-sabīli
wayfarer
إِن if in
if
كُنتُمْ you kuntum
you
ءَامَنتُم believe āmantum
believe
بِٱللَّهِ in Allah bil-lahi
in Allah
وَمَآ and (in) what wamā
and (in) what
أَنزَلْنَا We sent down anzalnā
We sent down
عَلَىٰ to ʿalā
to
عَبْدِنَا Our slave ʿabdinā
Our slave
يَوْمَ (on the) day yawma
(on the) day
ٱلْفُرْقَانِ (of) the criterion l-fur'qāni
(of) the criterion
يَوْمَ (the) day yawma
(the) day
ٱلْتَقَى (when) met l-taqā
(when) met
ٱلْجَمْعَانِ ۗ the two forces l-jamʿāni
the two forces
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
عَلَىٰ (is) on ʿalā
(is) on
كُلِّ every kulli
every
شَىْءٍۢ thing shayin
thing
قَدِيرٌ All-Powerful qadīrun
All-Powerful
٤١ (41)
(41)
And know that anything you obtain of war booty - then indeed, for Allāh is one fifth of it and for the Messenger and for [his] near relatives and the orphans, the needy, and the [stranded] traveler, if you have believed in Allāh and in that which We sent down to Our Servant on the day of criterion [i.e., decisive encounter] - the day when the two armies met [at Badr]. And Allāh, over all things, is competent.
8:42
إِذْ When idh
When
أَنتُم you (were) antum
you (were)
بِٱلْعُدْوَةِ on side of the valley bil-ʿud'wati
on side of the valley
ٱلدُّنْيَا the nearer l-dun'yā
the nearer
وَهُم and they wahum
and they
بِٱلْعُدْوَةِ (were) on the side bil-ʿud'wati
(were) on the side
ٱلْقُصْوَىٰ the farther l-quṣ'wā
the farther
وَٱلرَّكْبُ and the caravan wal-rakbu
and the caravan
أَسْفَلَ (was) lower asfala
(was) lower
مِنكُمْ ۚ than you minkum
than you
وَلَوْ And if walaw
And if
تَوَاعَدتُّمْ you (had) made an appointment tawāʿadttum
you (had) made an appointment
لَٱخْتَلَفْتُمْ certainly you would have failed la-ikh'talaftum
certainly you would have failed
فِى in
in
ٱلْمِيعَـٰدِ ۙ the appointment l-mīʿādi
the appointment
وَلَـٰكِن But walākin
But
لِّيَقْضِىَ that might accomplish liyaqḍiya
that might accomplish
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
أَمْرًۭا a matter amran
a matter
كَانَ (that) was kāna
(that) was
مَفْعُولًۭا destined mafʿūlan
destined
لِّيَهْلِكَ that (might be) destroyed liyahlika
that (might be) destroyed
مَنْ (those) who man
(those) who
هَلَكَ (were to be) destroyed halaka
(were to be) destroyed
عَنۢ on ʿan
on
بَيِّنَةٍۢ a clear evidence bayyinatin
a clear evidence
وَيَحْيَىٰ and (might) live wayaḥyā
and (might) live
مَنْ (those) who man
(those) who
حَىَّ (were to) live ḥayya
(were to) live
عَنۢ on ʿan
on
بَيِّنَةٍۢ ۗ a clear evidence bayyinatin
a clear evidence
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
لَسَمِيعٌ (is) All-Hearing lasamīʿun
(is) All-Hearing
عَلِيمٌ All-Knowing ʿalīmun
All-Knowing
٤٢ (42)
(42)
[Remember] when you were on the near side of the valley, and they were on the farther side, and the caravan was lower [in position] than you. If you had made an appointment [to meet], you would have missed the appointment. But [it was] so that Allāh might accomplish a matter already destined - that those who perished [through disbelief] would perish upon evidence and those who lived [in faith] would live upon evidence; and indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.
8:43
إِذْ When idh
When
يُرِيكَهُمُ you (where) shown them yurīkahumu
you (where) shown them
ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah l-lahu
(by) Allah
فِى in
in
مَنَامِكَ your dream manāmika
your dream
قَلِيلًۭا ۖ (as) few qalīlan
(as) few
وَلَوْ and if walaw
and if
أَرَىٰكَهُمْ He had shown them to you arākahum
He had shown them to you
كَثِيرًۭا (as) many kathīran
(as) many
لَّفَشِلْتُمْ surely you would have lost courage lafashil'tum
surely you would have lost courage
وَلَتَنَـٰزَعْتُمْ and surely you would have disputed walatanāzaʿtum
and surely you would have disputed
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَمْرِ the matter l-amri
the matter
وَلَـٰكِنَّ but walākinna
but
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
سَلَّمَ ۗ saved (you) sallama
saved (you)
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He innahu
Indeed, He
عَلِيمٌۢ (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knower
بِذَاتِ of what is in bidhāti
of what is in
ٱلصُّدُورِ the breasts l-ṣudūri
the breasts
٤٣ (43)
(43)
[Remember, O Muḥammad], when Allāh showed them to you in your dream as few; and if He had shown them to you as many, you [believers] would have lost courage and would have disputed in the matter [of whether to fight], but Allāh saved [you from that]. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.
8:44
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when
يُرِيكُمُوهُمْ He showed them to you yurīkumūhum
He showed them to you
إِذِ when idhi
when
ٱلْتَقَيْتُمْ you met l-taqaytum
you met
فِىٓ in
in
أَعْيُنِكُمْ your eyes aʿyunikum
your eyes
قَلِيلًۭا (as) few qalīlan
(as) few
وَيُقَلِّلُكُمْ and He made you (appear) as few wayuqallilukum
and He made you (appear) as few
فِىٓ in
in
أَعْيُنِهِمْ their eyes aʿyunihim
their eyes
لِيَقْضِىَ that might accomplish liyaqḍiya
that might accomplish
ٱللَّهُ Allah might accomplish l-lahu
Allah might accomplish
أَمْرًۭا a matter amran
a matter
كَانَ (that) was kāna
(that) was
مَفْعُولًۭا ۗ (already) destined mafʿūlan
(already) destined
وَإِلَى And to wa-ilā
And to
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
تُرْجَعُ return tur'jaʿu
return
ٱلْأُمُورُ (all) the matters l-umūru
(all) the matters
٤٤ (44)
(44)
And [remember] when He showed them to you, when you met, as few in your eyes, and He made you [appear] as few in their eyes so that Allāh might accomplish a matter already destined. And to Allāh are [all] matters returned.
8:45
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ who alladhīna
who
ءَامَنُوٓا۟ believe āmanū
believe
إِذَا When idhā
When
لَقِيتُمْ you meet laqītum
you meet
فِئَةًۭ a force fi-atan
a force
فَٱثْبُتُوا۟ then be firm fa-uth'butū
then be firm
وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ and remember wa-udh'kurū
and remember
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
كَثِيرًۭا much kathīran
much
لَّعَلَّكُمْ so that you may laʿallakum
so that you may
تُفْلِحُونَ (be) successful tuf'liḥūna
(be) successful
٤٥ (45)
(45)
O you who have believed, when you encounter a company [from the enemy forces], stand firm and remember Allāh much that you may be successful.
8:46
وَأَطِيعُوا۟ And obey wa-aṭīʿū
And obey
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
وَرَسُولَهُۥ and His Messenger warasūlahu
and His Messenger
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تَنَـٰزَعُوا۟ dispute tanāzaʿū
dispute
فَتَفْشَلُوا۟ lest you lose courage fatafshalū
lest you lose courage
وَتَذْهَبَ and (would) depart watadhhaba
and (would) depart
رِيحُكُمْ ۖ your strength rīḥukum
your strength
وَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟ ۚ and be patient wa-iṣ'birū
and be patient
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
مَعَ (is) with maʿa
(is) with
ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ the patient ones l-ṣābirīna
the patient ones
٤٦ (46)
(46)
And obey Allāh and His Messenger, and do not dispute and [thus] lose courage and [then] your strength would depart; and be patient. Indeed, Allāh is with the patient.
8:47
وَلَا And (do) not walā
And (do) not
تَكُونُوا۟ be takūnū
be
كَٱلَّذِينَ like those who ka-alladhīna
like those who
خَرَجُوا۟ came forth kharajū
came forth
مِن from min
from
دِيَـٰرِهِم their homes diyārihim
their homes
بَطَرًۭا boastfully baṭaran
boastfully
وَرِئَآءَ and showing off wariāa
and showing off
ٱلنَّاسِ (to) the people l-nāsi
(to) the people
وَيَصُدُّونَ and hinder (them) wayaṣuddūna
and hinder (them)
عَن from ʿan
from
سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ ۚ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
بِمَا of what bimā
of what
يَعْمَلُونَ they do yaʿmalūna
they do
مُحِيطٌۭ (is) All-Encompassing muḥīṭun
(is) All-Encompassing
٤٧ (47)
(47)
And do not be like those who came forth from their homes insolently and to be seen by people and avert [them] from the way of Allāh. And Allāh is encompassing of what they do.
8:48
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when
زَيَّنَ made fair-seeming zayyana
made fair-seeming
لَهُمُ to them lahumu
to them
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ the Shaitaan l-shayṭānu
the Shaitaan
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ their deeds aʿmālahum
their deeds
وَقَالَ and he said waqāla
and he said
لَا No (one)
No (one)
غَالِبَ (can) overcome ghāliba
(can) overcome
لَكُمُ [to] you lakumu
[to] you
ٱلْيَوْمَ today l-yawma
today
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلنَّاسِ the people l-nāsi
the people
وَإِنِّى and indeed, I am wa-innī
and indeed, I am
جَارٌۭ a neighbor jārun
a neighbor
لَّكُمْ ۖ for you lakum
for you
فَلَمَّا But when falammā
But when
تَرَآءَتِ came in sight tarāati
came in sight
ٱلْفِئَتَانِ the two forces l-fi-atāni
the two forces
نَكَصَ he turned away nakaṣa
he turned away
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
عَقِبَيْهِ his heels ʿaqibayhi
his heels
وَقَالَ and said waqāla
and said
إِنِّى Indeed, I am innī
Indeed, I am
بَرِىٓءٌۭ free barīon
free
مِّنكُمْ of you minkum
of you
إِنِّىٓ Indeed, I innī
Indeed, I
أَرَىٰ see arā
see
مَا what
what
لَا not
not
تَرَوْنَ you see tarawna
you see
إِنِّىٓ indeed, I innī
indeed, I
أَخَافُ [I] fear akhāfu
[I] fear
ٱللَّهَ ۚ Allah l-laha
Allah
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
شَدِيدُ (is) severe shadīdu
(is) severe
ٱلْعِقَابِ (in) the penalty l-ʿiqābi
(in) the penalty
٤٨ (48)
(48)
And [remember] when Satan made their deeds pleasing to them and said, "No one can overcome you today from among the people, and indeed, I am your protector." But when the two armies sighted each other, he turned on his heels and said, "Indeed, I am disassociated from you. Indeed, I see what you do not see; indeed, I fear Allāh. And Allāh is severe in penalty."
8:49
إِذْ When idh
When
يَقُولُ said yaqūlu
said
ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقُونَ the hypocrites l-munāfiqūna
the hypocrites
وَٱلَّذِينَ and those who wa-alladhīna
and those who
فِى in
in
قُلُوبِهِم their hearts qulūbihim
their hearts
مَّرَضٌ (was) a disease maraḍun
(was) a disease
غَرَّ (Had) deluded gharra
(Had) deluded
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ these (people) hāulāi
these (people)
دِينُهُمْ ۗ their religion dīnuhum
their religion
وَمَن But whoever waman
But whoever
يَتَوَكَّلْ puts (his) trust yatawakkal
puts (his) trust
عَلَى in ʿalā
in
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
فَإِنَّ then indeed fa-inna
then indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
عَزِيزٌ (is) All-Mighty ʿazīzun
(is) All-Mighty
حَكِيمٌۭ All-Wise ḥakīmun
All-Wise
٤٩ (49)
(49)
[Remember] when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts was disease [i.e., arrogance and disbelief] said, "Their religion has deluded those [Muslims]." But whoever relies upon Allāh - then indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.
8:50
وَلَوْ And if walaw
And if
تَرَىٰٓ you (could) see tarā
you (could) see
إِذْ when idh
when
يَتَوَفَّى take away souls yatawaffā
take away souls
ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who alladhīna
(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟ ۙ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ the Angels l-malāikatu
the Angels
يَضْرِبُونَ striking yaḍribūna
striking
وُجُوهَهُمْ their faces wujūhahum
their faces
وَأَدْبَـٰرَهُمْ and their backs wa-adbārahum
and their backs
وَذُوقُوا۟ Taste wadhūqū
Taste
عَذَابَ (the) punishment ʿadhāba
(the) punishment
ٱلْحَرِيقِ (of) the Blazing Fire l-ḥarīqi
(of) the Blazing Fire
٥٠ (50)
(50)
And if you could but see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved... They are striking their faces and their backs and [saying], "Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire.
8:51
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
بِمَا (is) for what bimā
(is) for what
قَدَّمَتْ sent forth qaddamat
sent forth
أَيْدِيكُمْ your hands aydīkum
your hands
وَأَنَّ And indeed wa-anna
And indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
لَيْسَ (is) not laysa
(is) not
بِظَلَّـٰمٍۢ unjust biẓallāmin
unjust
لِّلْعَبِيدِ to His slaves lil'ʿabīdi
to His slaves
٥١ (51)
(51)
That is for what your hands have put forth [of evil] and because Allāh is not ever unjust to [His] servants."
8:52
كَدَأْبِ Like (the) way kadabi
Like (the) way
ءَالِ (of) people āli
(of) people
فِرْعَوْنَ ۙ (of) Firaun fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
وَٱلَّذِينَ and those who wa-alladhīna
and those who
مِن (were) from min
(were) from
قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ before them qablihim
before them
كَفَرُوا۟ They disbelieved kafarū
They disbelieved
بِـَٔايَـٰتِ in (the) Signs biāyāti
in (the) Signs
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
فَأَخَذَهُمُ so seized them fa-akhadhahumu
so seized them
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
بِذُنُوبِهِمْ ۗ for their sins bidhunūbihim
for their sins
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
قَوِىٌّۭ (is) All-Strong qawiyyun
(is) All-Strong
شَدِيدُ (and) severe shadīdu
(and) severe
ٱلْعِقَابِ (in) the penalty l-ʿiqābi
(in) the penalty
٥٢ (52)
(52)
[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and of those before them. They disbelieved in the signs of Allāh, so Allāh seized them for their sins. Indeed, Allāh is Powerful and severe in penalty.
8:53
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
بِأَنَّ (is) because bi-anna
(is) because
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
لَمْ not lam
not
يَكُ is yaku
is
مُغَيِّرًۭا One Who changes mughayyiran
One Who changes
نِّعْمَةً a favor niʿ'matan
a favor
أَنْعَمَهَا which He had bestowed anʿamahā
which He had bestowed
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
قَوْمٍ a people qawmin
a people
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
يُغَيِّرُوا۟ they change yughayyirū
they change
مَا what
what
بِأَنفُسِهِمْ ۙ (is) in themselves bi-anfusihim
(is) in themselves
وَأَنَّ And indeed wa-anna
And indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
سَمِيعٌ (is) All-Hearing samīʿun
(is) All-Hearing
عَلِيمٌۭ All-Knowing ʿalīmun
All-Knowing
٥٣ (53)
(53)
That is because Allāh would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon a people until they change what is within themselves. And indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.
8:54
كَدَأْبِ Like (the) way kadabi
Like (the) way
ءَالِ (of) people āli
(of) people
فِرْعَوْنَ ۙ (of) Firaun fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
وَٱلَّذِينَ and those who wa-alladhīna
and those who
مِن (were) from min
(were) from
قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ before them qablihim
before them
كَذَّبُوا۟ They denied kadhabū
They denied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِ (the) Signs biāyāti
(the) Signs
رَبِّهِمْ (of) their Lord rabbihim
(of) their Lord
فَأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُم so We destroyed them fa-ahlaknāhum
so We destroyed them
بِذُنُوبِهِمْ for their sins bidhunūbihim
for their sins
وَأَغْرَقْنَآ and We drowned wa-aghraqnā
and We drowned
ءَالَ (the) people āla
(the) people
فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ (of) Firaun fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
وَكُلٌّۭ and (they) all wakullun
and (they) all
كَانُوا۟ were kānū
were
ظَـٰلِمِينَ wrongdoers ẓālimīna
wrongdoers
٥٤ (54)
(54)
[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and of those before them. They denied the signs of their Lord, so We destroyed them for their sins, and We drowned the people of Pharaoh. And all [of them] were wrongdoers.
8:55
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
شَرَّ (the) worst sharra
(the) worst
ٱلدَّوَآبِّ (of) the living creatures l-dawābi
(of) the living creatures
عِندَ near ʿinda
near
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
ٱلَّذِينَ (are) those who alladhīna
(are) those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
فَهُمْ and they fahum
and they
لَا (will) not
(will) not
يُؤْمِنُونَ believe yu'minūna
believe
٥٥ (55)
(55)
Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allāh are those who have disbelieved, and they will not [ever] believe-
8:56
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who
عَـٰهَدتَّ you made a covenant ʿāhadtta
you made a covenant
مِنْهُمْ with them min'hum
with them
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
يَنقُضُونَ they break yanquḍūna
they break
عَهْدَهُمْ their covenant ʿahdahum
their covenant
فِى [in]
[in]
كُلِّ every kulli
every
مَرَّةٍۢ time marratin
time
وَهُمْ and they wahum
and they
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يَتَّقُونَ fear (Allah) yattaqūna
fear (Allah)
٥٦ (56)
(56)
The ones with whom you made a treaty but then they break their pledge every time, and they do not fear Allāh.
8:57
فَإِمَّا So if fa-immā
So if
تَثْقَفَنَّهُمْ you gain dominance over them tathqafannahum
you gain dominance over them
فِى in
in
ٱلْحَرْبِ the war l-ḥarbi
the war
فَشَرِّدْ disperse fasharrid
disperse
بِهِم by them bihim
by them
مَّنْ (those) who man
(those) who
خَلْفَهُمْ (are) behind them khalfahum
(are) behind them
لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may laʿallahum
so that they may
يَذَّكَّرُونَ take heed yadhakkarūna
take heed
٥٧ (57)
(57)
So if you, [O Muḥammad], gain dominance over them in war, disperse by [means of] them those behind them that perhaps they will be reminded.
8:58
وَإِمَّا And if wa-immā
And if
تَخَافَنَّ you fear takhāfanna
you fear
مِن from min
from
قَوْمٍ a people qawmin
a people
خِيَانَةًۭ betrayal khiyānatan
betrayal
فَٱنۢبِذْ throw back fa-inbidh
throw back
إِلَيْهِمْ to them ilayhim
to them
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
سَوَآءٍ ۚ equal (terms) sawāin
equal (terms)
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
لَا (does) not
(does) not
يُحِبُّ love yuḥibbu
love
ٱلْخَآئِنِينَ the traitors l-khāinīna
the traitors
٥٨ (58)
(58)
If you [have reason to] fear from a people betrayal, throw [their treaty] back to them, [putting you] on equal terms. Indeed, Allāh does not like traitors.
8:59
وَلَا And (let) not walā
And (let) not
يَحْسَبَنَّ think yaḥsabanna
think
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
سَبَقُوٓا۟ ۚ they can outstrip sabaqū
they can outstrip
إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they innahum
Indeed, they
لَا (can) not
(can) not
يُعْجِزُونَ escape yuʿ'jizūna
escape
٥٩ (59)
(59)
And let not those who disbelieve think they will escape. Indeed, they will not cause failure [to Allāh].
8:60
وَأَعِدُّوا۟ And prepare wa-aʿiddū
And prepare
لَهُم for them lahum
for them
مَّا whatever
whatever
ٱسْتَطَعْتُم you able (to) is'taṭaʿtum
you able (to)
مِّن of min
of
قُوَّةٍۢ force quwwatin
force
وَمِن and of wamin
and of
رِّبَاطِ tethered ribāṭi
tethered
ٱلْخَيْلِ horses l-khayli
horses
تُرْهِبُونَ (to) terrify tur'hibūna
(to) terrify
بِهِۦ therewith bihi
therewith
عَدُوَّ (the) enemy ʿaduwwa
(the) enemy
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
وَعَدُوَّكُمْ and your enemy waʿaduwwakum
and your enemy
وَءَاخَرِينَ and others waākharīna
and others
مِن from min
from
دُونِهِمْ besides them dūnihim
besides them
لَا not
not
تَعْلَمُونَهُمُ (do) you know them taʿlamūnahumu
(do) you know them
ٱللَّهُ (but) Allah l-lahu
(but) Allah
يَعْلَمُهُمْ ۚ knows them yaʿlamuhum
knows them
وَمَا And whatever wamā
And whatever
تُنفِقُوا۟ you spend tunfiqū
you spend
مِن from min
from
شَىْءٍۢ (any) thing shayin
(any) thing
فِى in
in
سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
يُوَفَّ it will be fully repaid yuwaffa
it will be fully repaid
إِلَيْكُمْ to you ilaykum
to you
وَأَنتُمْ and you wa-antum
and you
لَا (will) not
(will) not
تُظْلَمُونَ be wronged tuẓ'lamūna
be wronged
٦٠ (60)
(60)
And prepare against them whatever you are able of power and of steeds of war by which you may terrify the enemy of Allāh and your enemy and others besides them whom you do not know [but] whom Allāh knows. And whatever you spend in the cause of Allāh will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be wronged.
8:61
۞ وَإِن And if wa-in
And if
جَنَحُوا۟ they incline janaḥū
they incline
لِلسَّلْمِ to peace lilssalmi
to peace
فَٱجْنَحْ then you (also) incline fa-ij'naḥ
then you (also) incline
لَهَا to it lahā
to it
وَتَوَكَّلْ and put (your) trust watawakkal
and put (your) trust
عَلَى in ʿalā
in
ٱللَّهِ ۚ Allah l-lahi
Allah
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed innahu
Indeed
هُوَ He huwa
He
ٱلسَّمِيعُ (is) All-Hearer l-samīʿu
(is) All-Hearer
ٱلْعَلِيمُ All-Knower l-ʿalīmu
All-Knower
٦١ (61)
(61)
And if they incline to peace, then incline to it [also] and rely upon Allāh. Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Knowing.
8:62
وَإِن But if wa-in
But if
يُرِيدُوٓا۟ they intend yurīdū
they intend
أَن to an
to
يَخْدَعُوكَ deceive you yakhdaʿūka
deceive you
فَإِنَّ then indeed fa-inna
then indeed
حَسْبَكَ is sufficient for you ḥasbaka
is sufficient for you
ٱللَّهُ ۚ Allah l-lahu
Allah
هُوَ He huwa
He
ٱلَّذِىٓ (is) the One Who alladhī
(is) the One Who
أَيَّدَكَ supported you ayyadaka
supported you
بِنَصْرِهِۦ with His help binaṣrihi
with His help
وَبِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ and with the believers wabil-mu'minīna
and with the believers
٦٢ (62)
(62)
But if they intend to deceive you - then sufficient for you is Allāh. It is He who supported you with His help and with the believers
8:63
وَأَلَّفَ And He (has) put affection wa-allafa
And He (has) put affection
بَيْنَ between bayna
between
قُلُوبِهِمْ ۚ their hearts qulūbihim
their hearts
لَوْ If law
If
أَنفَقْتَ you (had) spent anfaqta
you (had) spent
مَا whatever
whatever
فِى (is) in
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
جَمِيعًۭا all jamīʿan
all
مَّآ not
not
أَلَّفْتَ (could) you (have) put affection allafta
(could) you (have) put affection
بَيْنَ between bayna
between
قُلُوبِهِمْ their hearts qulūbihim
their hearts
وَلَـٰكِنَّ but walākinna
but
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
أَلَّفَ (has) put affection allafa
(has) put affection
بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ between them baynahum
between them
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He innahu
Indeed, He
عَزِيزٌ (is) All-Mighty ʿazīzun
(is) All-Mighty
حَكِيمٌۭ All-Wise ḥakīmun
All-Wise
٦٣ (63)
(63)
And brought together their hearts. If you had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have brought their hearts together; but Allāh brought them together. Indeed, He is Exalted in Might and Wise.
8:64
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O yāayyuhā
O
ٱلنَّبِىُّ Prophet l-nabiyu
Prophet
حَسْبُكَ Sufficient for you ḥasbuka
Sufficient for you
ٱللَّهُ (is) Allah l-lahu
(is) Allah
وَمَنِ and whoever wamani
and whoever
ٱتَّبَعَكَ follows you ittabaʿaka
follows you
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers l-mu'minīna
the believers
٦٤ (64)
(64)
O Prophet, sufficient for you is Allāh and for whoever follows you of the believers.
8:65
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O yāayyuhā
O
ٱلنَّبِىُّ Prophet l-nabiyu
Prophet
حَرِّضِ Urge ḥarriḍi
Urge
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers l-mu'minīna
the believers
عَلَى to ʿalā
to
ٱلْقِتَالِ ۚ [the] fight l-qitāli
[the] fight
إِن If in
If
يَكُن (there) are yakun
(there) are
مِّنكُمْ among you minkum
among you
عِشْرُونَ twenty ʿish'rūna
twenty
صَـٰبِرُونَ steadfast ṣābirūna
steadfast
يَغْلِبُوا۟ they will overcome yaghlibū
they will overcome
مِا۟ئَتَيْنِ ۚ two hundred mi-atayni
two hundred
وَإِن And if wa-in
And if
يَكُن (there) are yakun
(there) are
مِّنكُم among you minkum
among you
مِّا۟ئَةٌۭ a hundred mi-atun
a hundred
يَغْلِبُوٓا۟ they will overcome yaghlibū
they will overcome
أَلْفًۭا a thousand alfan
a thousand
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
بِأَنَّهُمْ because they bi-annahum
because they
قَوْمٌۭ (are) a people qawmun
(are) a people
لَّا (who do) not
(who do) not
يَفْقَهُونَ understand yafqahūna
understand
٦٥ (65)
(65)
O Prophet, urge the believers to battle. If there are among you twenty [who are] steadfast, they will overcome two hundred. And if there are among you one hundred [who are steadfast], they will overcome a thousand of those who have disbelieved because they are a people who do not understand.
8:66
ٱلْـَٔـٰنَ Now al-āna
Now
خَفَّفَ has (been) lightened khaffafa
has (been) lightened
ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah l-lahu
(by) Allah
عَنكُمْ for you ʿankum
for you
وَعَلِمَ and He knows waʿalima
and He knows
أَنَّ that anna
that
فِيكُمْ in you fīkum
in you
ضَعْفًۭا ۚ (there) is weakness ḍaʿfan
(there) is weakness
فَإِن So if fa-in
So if
يَكُن (there) are yakun
(there) are
مِّنكُم among you minkum
among you
مِّا۟ئَةٌۭ a hundred mi-atun
a hundred
صَابِرَةٌۭ steadfast ṣābiratun
steadfast
يَغْلِبُوا۟ they will overcome yaghlibū
they will overcome
مِا۟ئَتَيْنِ ۚ two hundred mi-atayni
two hundred
وَإِن And if wa-in
And if
يَكُن (there) are yakun
(there) are
مِّنكُمْ among you minkum
among you
أَلْفٌۭ a thousand alfun
a thousand
يَغْلِبُوٓا۟ they will overcome yaghlibū
they will overcome
أَلْفَيْنِ two thousand alfayni
two thousand
بِإِذْنِ with (the) permission bi-idh'ni
with (the) permission
ٱللَّهِ ۗ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
مَعَ (is) with maʿa
(is) with
ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ the steadfast l-ṣābirīna
the steadfast
٦٦ (66)
(66)
Now, Allāh has lightened [the hardship] for you, and He knows that among you is weakness. So if there are from you one hundred [who are] steadfast, they will overcome two hundred. And if there are among you a thousand, they will overcome two thousand by permission of Allāh. And Allāh is with the steadfast.
8:67
مَا Not
Not
كَانَ is kāna
is
لِنَبِىٍّ for a Prophet linabiyyin
for a Prophet
أَن that an
that
يَكُونَ (there) should be yakūna
(there) should be
لَهُۥٓ for him lahu
for him
أَسْرَىٰ prisoners of war asrā
prisoners of war
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
يُثْخِنَ he has battled strenuously yuth'khina
he has battled strenuously
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ the land l-arḍi
the land
تُرِيدُونَ You desire turīdūna
You desire
عَرَضَ (the) commodities ʿaraḍa
(the) commodities
ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
وَٱللَّهُ but Allah wal-lahu
but Allah
يُرِيدُ desires yurīdu
desires
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۗ (for you) the Hereafter l-ākhirata
(for you) the Hereafter
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
عَزِيزٌ (is) All-Mighty ʿazīzun
(is) All-Mighty
حَكِيمٌۭ All-Wise ḥakīmun
All-Wise
٦٧ (67)
(67)
It is not for a prophet to have captives [of war] until he inflicts a massacre [upon Allāh's enemies] in the land. You [i.e., some Muslims] desire the commodities of this world, but Allāh desires [for you] the Hereafter. And Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.
8:68
لَّوْلَا Had not lawlā
Had not
كِتَـٰبٌۭ an ordainment kitābun
an ordainment
مِّنَ from mina
from
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
سَبَقَ preceded sabaqa
preceded
لَمَسَّكُمْ surely (would) have touched you lamassakum
surely (would) have touched you
فِيمَآ for what fīmā
for what
أَخَذْتُمْ you took akhadhtum
you took
عَذَابٌ a punishment ʿadhābun
a punishment
عَظِيمٌۭ great ʿaẓīmun
great
٦٨ (68)
(68)
If not for a decree from Allāh that preceded, you would have been touched for what you took by a great punishment.
8:69
فَكُلُوا۟ So eat fakulū
So eat
مِمَّا from what mimmā
from what
غَنِمْتُمْ you got as war booty ghanim'tum
you got as war booty
حَلَـٰلًۭا lawful ḥalālan
lawful
طَيِّبًۭا ۚ (and) good ṭayyiban
(and) good
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ and fear wa-ittaqū
and fear
ٱللَّهَ ۚ Allah l-laha
Allah
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
غَفُورٌۭ (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun
(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭ Most Merciful raḥīmun
Most Merciful
٦٩ (69)
(69)
So consume what you have taken of war booty [as being] lawful and good, and fear Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
8:70
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O yāayyuhā
O
ٱلنَّبِىُّ Prophet l-nabiyu
Prophet
قُل Say qul
Say
لِّمَن to whoever liman
to whoever
فِىٓ (is) in
(is) in
أَيْدِيكُم your hands aydīkum
your hands
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلْأَسْرَىٰٓ the captives l-asrā
the captives
إِن If in
If
يَعْلَمِ knows yaʿlami
knows
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
فِى in
in
قُلُوبِكُمْ your hearts qulūbikum
your hearts
خَيْرًۭا any good khayran
any good
يُؤْتِكُمْ He will give you yu'tikum
He will give you
خَيْرًۭا better khayran
better
مِّمَّآ than what mimmā
than what
أُخِذَ was taken ukhidha
was taken
مِنكُمْ from you minkum
from you
وَيَغْفِرْ and He will forgive wayaghfir
and He will forgive
لَكُمْ ۗ you lakum
you
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
غَفُورٌۭ (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun
(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭ Most Merciful raḥīmun
Most Merciful
٧٠ (70)
(70)
O Prophet, say to whoever is in your hands of the captives, "If Allāh knows [any] good in your hearts, He will give you [something] better than what was taken from you, and He will forgive you; and Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful."
8:71
وَإِن But if wa-in
But if
يُرِيدُوا۟ they intend yurīdū
they intend
خِيَانَتَكَ (to) betray you khiyānataka
(to) betray you
فَقَدْ certainly faqad
certainly
خَانُوا۟ they have betrayed khānū
they have betrayed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
مِن from min
from
قَبْلُ before qablu
before
فَأَمْكَنَ So He gave (you) power fa-amkana
So He gave (you) power
مِنْهُمْ ۗ over them min'hum
over them
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
عَلِيمٌ (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knower
حَكِيمٌ All-Wise ḥakīmun
All-Wise
٧١ (71)
(71)
But if they intend to betray you - then they have already betrayed Allāh before, and He empowered [you] over them. And Allāh is Knowing and Wise.
8:72
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believed āmanū
believed
وَهَاجَرُوا۟ and emigrated wahājarū
and emigrated
وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ and strove hard wajāhadū
and strove hard
بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ with their wealth bi-amwālihim
with their wealth
وَأَنفُسِهِمْ and their lives wa-anfusihim
and their lives
فِى in
in
سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
وَٱلَّذِينَ and those who wa-alladhīna
and those who
ءَاوَوا۟ gave shelter āwaw
gave shelter
وَّنَصَرُوٓا۟ and helped wanaṣarū
and helped
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those ulāika
those
بَعْضُهُمْ some of them baʿḍuhum
some of them
أَوْلِيَآءُ (are) allies awliyāu
(are) allies
بَعْضٍۢ ۚ (of) another baʿḍin
(of) another
وَٱلَّذِينَ But those who wa-alladhīna
But those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believed āmanū
believed
وَلَمْ and (did) not walam
and (did) not
يُهَاجِرُوا۟ emigrate yuhājirū
emigrate
مَا (it is) not
(it is) not
لَكُم for you lakum
for you
مِّن (of) min
(of)
وَلَـٰيَتِهِم their protection walāyatihim
their protection
مِّن (in) min
(in)
شَىْءٍ (in) anything shayin
(in) anything
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
يُهَاجِرُوا۟ ۚ they emigrate yuhājirū
they emigrate
وَإِنِ And if wa-ini
And if
ٱسْتَنصَرُوكُمْ they seek your help is'tanṣarūkum
they seek your help
فِى in
in
ٱلدِّينِ the religion l-dīni
the religion
فَعَلَيْكُمُ then upon you faʿalaykumu
then upon you
ٱلنَّصْرُ (is to) help them l-naṣru
(is to) help them
إِلَّا except illā
except
عَلَىٰ against ʿalā
against
قَوْمٍۭ a people qawmin
a people
بَيْنَكُمْ between you baynakum
between you
وَبَيْنَهُم and between them wabaynahum
and between them
مِّيثَـٰقٌۭ ۗ (is) a treaty mīthāqun
(is) a treaty
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
بِمَا of what bimā
of what
تَعْمَلُونَ you do taʿmalūna
you do
بَصِيرٌۭ (is) All-Seer baṣīrun
(is) All-Seer
٧٢ (72)
(72)
Indeed, those who have believed and emigrated and fought with their wealth and lives in the cause of Allāh and those who gave shelter and aided - they are allies of one another. But those who believed and did not emigrate - for you there is no support of them until they emigrate. And if they seek help of you for the religion, then you must help, except against a people between yourselves and whom is a treaty. And Allāh is Seeing of what you do.
8:73
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
بَعْضُهُمْ some of them baʿḍuhum
some of them
أَوْلِيَآءُ (are) allies awliyāu
(are) allies
بَعْضٍ ۚ (to) another baʿḍin
(to) another
إِلَّا If not illā
If not
تَفْعَلُوهُ you do it tafʿalūhu
you do it
تَكُن (there) will be takun
(there) will be
فِتْنَةٌۭ oppression fit'natun
oppression
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
وَفَسَادٌۭ and corruption wafasādun
and corruption
كَبِيرٌۭ great kabīrun
great
٧٣ (73)
(73)
And those who disbelieved are allies of one another. If you do not do so [i.e., ally yourselves with other believers], there will be fitnah [i.e., disbelief and oppression] on earth and great corruption.
8:74
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believed āmanū
believed
وَهَاجَرُوا۟ and emigrated wahājarū
and emigrated
وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ and strove hard wajāhadū
and strove hard
فِى in
in
سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
وَٱلَّذِينَ and those who wa-alladhīna
and those who
ءَاوَوا۟ gave shelter āwaw
gave shelter
وَّنَصَرُوٓا۟ and helped wanaṣarū
and helped
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those ulāika
those
هُمُ they (are) humu
they (are)
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ the believers l-mu'minūna
the believers
حَقًّۭا ۚ (in) truth ḥaqqan
(in) truth
لَّهُم For them lahum
For them
مَّغْفِرَةٌۭ (is) forgiveness maghfiratun
(is) forgiveness
وَرِزْقٌۭ and a provision wariz'qun
and a provision
كَرِيمٌۭ noble karīmun
noble
٧٤ (74)
(74)
But those who have believed and emigrated and fought in the cause of Allāh and those who gave shelter and aided - it is they who are the believers, truly. For them is forgiveness and noble provision.
8:75
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believed āmanū
believed
مِنۢ from min
from
بَعْدُ afterwards baʿdu
afterwards
وَهَاجَرُوا۟ and emigrated wahājarū
and emigrated
وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ and strove hard wajāhadū
and strove hard
مَعَكُمْ with you maʿakum
with you
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those fa-ulāika
then those
مِنكُمْ ۚ (are) of you minkum
(are) of you
وَأُو۟لُوا۟ But those wa-ulū
But those
ٱلْأَرْحَامِ (of) blood relationship l-arḥāmi
(of) blood relationship
بَعْضُهُمْ some of them baʿḍuhum
some of them
أَوْلَىٰ (are) nearer awlā
(are) nearer
بِبَعْضٍۢ to another bibaʿḍin
to another
فِى in
in
كِتَـٰبِ (the) Book kitābi
(the) Book
ٱللَّهِ ۗ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
بِكُلِّ of every bikulli
of every
شَىْءٍ thing shayin
thing
عَلِيمٌۢ (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knower
٧٥ (75)
(75)
And those who believed after [the initial emigration] and emigrated and fought with you - they are of you. But those of [blood] relationship are more entitled [to inheritance] in the decree of Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing of all things.
