Bismillah
بِسْمِ In (the) name bis'mi
In (the) name
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
7:1
الٓمٓصٓ Alif Laam Meem Saad alif-lam-meem-sad
Alif Laam Meem Saad
١ (1)
(1)
Alif, Lām, Meem, Ṣād.
7:2
كِتَـٰبٌ (This is) a Book kitābun
(This is) a Book
أُنزِلَ revealed unzila
revealed
إِلَيْكَ to you ilayka
to you
فَلَا so (let) not falā
so (let) not
يَكُن be yakun
be
فِى in
in
صَدْرِكَ your breast ṣadrika
your breast
حَرَجٌۭ any uneasiness ḥarajun
any uneasiness
مِّنْهُ from it min'hu
from it
لِتُنذِرَ that you warn litundhira
that you warn
بِهِۦ with it bihi
with it
وَذِكْرَىٰ and a reminder wadhik'rā
and a reminder
لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ for the believers lil'mu'minīna
for the believers
٢ (2)
(2)
[This is] a Book revealed to you, [O Muḥammad] - so let there not be in your breast distress therefrom - that you may warn thereby and as a reminder to the believers.
7:3
ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ Follow ittabiʿū
Follow
مَآ what
what
أُنزِلَ has been revealed unzila
has been revealed
إِلَيْكُم to you ilaykum
to you
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّكُمْ your Lord rabbikum
your Lord
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تَتَّبِعُوا۟ follow tattabiʿū
follow
مِن from min
from
دُونِهِۦٓ beside Him dūnihi
beside Him
أَوْلِيَآءَ ۗ any allies awliyāa
any allies
قَلِيلًۭا Little qalīlan
Little
مَّا (is) what
(is) what
تَذَكَّرُونَ you remember tadhakkarūna
you remember
٣ (3)
(3)
Follow, [O mankind], what has been revealed to you from your Lord and do not follow other than Him any allies. Little do you remember.
7:4
وَكَم And how many wakam
And how many
مِّن of min
of
قَرْيَةٍ a city qaryatin
a city
أَهْلَكْنَـٰهَا We destroyed it ahlaknāhā
We destroyed it
فَجَآءَهَا and came to it fajāahā
and came to it
بَأْسُنَا Our punishment basunā
Our punishment
بَيَـٰتًا (at) night bayātan
(at) night
أَوْ or aw
or
هُمْ (while) they hum
(while) they
قَآئِلُونَ were sleeping at noon qāilūna
were sleeping at noon
٤ (4)
(4)
And how many cities have We destroyed, and Our punishment came to them at night or while they were sleeping at noon.
7:5
فَمَا Then not famā
Then not
كَانَ was kāna
was
دَعْوَىٰهُمْ their plea daʿwāhum
their plea
إِذْ when idh
when
جَآءَهُم came to them jāahum
came to them
بَأْسُنَآ Our punishment basunā
Our punishment
إِلَّآ except illā
except
أَن that an
that
قَالُوٓا۟ they said qālū
they said
إِنَّا Indeed, we innā
Indeed, we
كُنَّا were kunnā
were
ظَـٰلِمِينَ wrongdoers ẓālimīna
wrongdoers
٥ (5)
(5)
And their declaration when Our punishment came to them was only that they said, "Indeed, we were wrongdoers!"
7:6
فَلَنَسْـَٔلَنَّ Then surely We will question falanasalanna
Then surely We will question
ٱلَّذِينَ those (to) whom alladhīna
those (to) whom
أُرْسِلَ were sent ur'sila
were sent
إِلَيْهِمْ to them (Messengers) ilayhim
to them (Messengers)
وَلَنَسْـَٔلَنَّ and surely We will question walanasalanna
and surely We will question
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
٦ (6)
(6)
Then We will surely question those to whom [a message] was sent, and We will surely question the messengers.
7:7
فَلَنَقُصَّنَّ Then surely We will narrate falanaquṣṣanna
Then surely We will narrate
عَلَيْهِم to them ʿalayhim
to them
بِعِلْمٍۢ ۖ with knowledge biʿil'min
with knowledge
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
كُنَّا were We kunnā
were We
غَآئِبِينَ absent ghāibīna
absent
٧ (7)
(7)
Then We will surely relate [their deeds] to them with knowledge, and We were not [at all] absent.
7:8
وَٱلْوَزْنُ And the weighing wal-waznu
And the weighing
يَوْمَئِذٍ that day yawma-idhin
that day
ٱلْحَقُّ ۚ (will be) the truth l-ḥaqu
(will be) the truth
فَمَن So whose faman
So whose
ثَقُلَتْ (will be) heavy thaqulat
(will be) heavy
مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ his scales mawāzīnuhu
his scales
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those fa-ulāika
then those
هُمُ [they] humu
[they]
ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ (will be) the successful ones l-muf'liḥūna
(will be) the successful ones
٨ (8)
(8)
And the weighing [of deeds] that Day will be the truth. So those whose scales are heavy - it is they who will be the successful.
7:9
وَمَنْ And (for) those waman
And (for) those
خَفَّتْ (will be) light khaffat
(will be) light
مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ his scales mawāzīnuhu
his scales
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ so those fa-ulāika
so those
ٱلَّذِينَ (will be) the ones who alladhīna
(will be) the ones who
خَسِرُوٓا۟ lost khasirū
lost
أَنفُسَهُم themselves anfusahum
themselves
بِمَا because bimā
because
كَانُوا۟ they were kānū
they were
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا to Our Verses biāyātinā
to Our Verses
يَظْلِمُونَ (doing) injustice yaẓlimūna
(doing) injustice
٩ (9)
(9)
And those whose scales are light - they are the ones who will lose themselves for what injustice they were doing toward Our verses.
7:10
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad
And certainly
مَكَّنَّـٰكُمْ We established you makkannākum
We established you
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
وَجَعَلْنَا and We made wajaʿalnā
and We made
لَكُمْ for you lakum
for you
فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it
مَعَـٰيِشَ ۗ livelihood maʿāyisha
livelihood
قَلِيلًۭا Little qalīlan
Little
مَّا (is) what
(is) what
تَشْكُرُونَ you (are) grateful tashkurūna
you (are) grateful
١٠ (10)
(10)
And We have certainly established you upon the earth and made for you therein ways of livelihood. Little are you grateful.
7:11
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad
And certainly
خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ We created you khalaqnākum
We created you
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
صَوَّرْنَـٰكُمْ We fashioned you ṣawwarnākum
We fashioned you
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
قُلْنَا We said qul'nā
We said
لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ to the Angels lil'malāikati
to the Angels
ٱسْجُدُوا۟ Prostrate us'judū
Prostrate
لِـَٔادَمَ to Adam liādama
to Adam
فَسَجَدُوٓا۟ So they prostrated fasajadū
So they prostrated
إِلَّآ except illā
except
إِبْلِيسَ Iblis ib'līsa
Iblis
لَمْ Not lam
Not
يَكُن he was yakun
he was
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ those who prostrated l-sājidīna
those who prostrated
١١ (11)
(11)
And We have certainly created you, [O mankind], and given you [human] form. Then We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam"; so they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was not of those who prostrated.
7:12
قَالَ (Allah) said qāla
(Allah) said
مَا What
What
مَنَعَكَ prevented you manaʿaka
prevented you
أَلَّا that not allā
that not
تَسْجُدَ you prostrate tasjuda
you prostrate
إِذْ when idh
when
أَمَرْتُكَ ۖ I commanded you amartuka
I commanded you
قَالَ (Shaitaan) said qāla
(Shaitaan) said
أَنَا۠ I am anā
I am
خَيْرٌۭ better khayrun
better
مِّنْهُ than him min'hu
than him
خَلَقْتَنِى You created me khalaqtanī
You created me
مِن from min
from
نَّارٍۢ fire nārin
fire
وَخَلَقْتَهُۥ and You created him wakhalaqtahu
and You created him
مِن from min
from
طِينٍۢ clay ṭīnin
clay
١٢ (12)
(12)
[Allāh] said, "What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?" [Satan] said, "I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay [i.e., earth]."
7:13
قَالَ (Allah) said qāla
(Allah) said
فَٱهْبِطْ Then go down fa-ih'biṭ
Then go down
مِنْهَا from it min'hā
from it
فَمَا for not famā
for not
يَكُونُ it is yakūnu
it is
لَكَ for you laka
for you
أَن that an
that
تَتَكَبَّرَ you be arrogant tatakabbara
you be arrogant
فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it
فَٱخْرُجْ So get out fa-ukh'ruj
So get out
إِنَّكَ indeed, you innaka
indeed, you
مِنَ (are) of mina
(are) of
ٱلصَّـٰغِرِينَ the disgraced ones l-ṣāghirīna
the disgraced ones
١٣ (13)
(13)
[Allāh] said, "Descend from it [i.e., Paradise], for it is not for you to be arrogant therein. So get out; indeed, you are of the debased."
7:14
قَالَ (Shaitaan) said qāla
(Shaitaan) said
أَنظِرْنِىٓ Give me respite anẓir'nī
Give me respite
إِلَىٰ till ilā
till
يَوْمِ (the) Day yawmi
(the) Day
يُبْعَثُونَ they are raised up yub'ʿathūna
they are raised up
١٤ (14)
(14)
[Satan] said, "Reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected."
7:15
قَالَ (Allah) said qāla
(Allah) said
إِنَّكَ Indeed, you innaka
Indeed, you
مِنَ (are) of mina
(are) of
ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ the ones given respite l-munẓarīna
the ones given respite
١٥ (15)
(15)
[Allāh] said, "Indeed, you are of those reprieved."
7:16
قَالَ (Shaitaan) said qāla
(Shaitaan) said
فَبِمَآ Because fabimā
Because
أَغْوَيْتَنِى You have sent me astray aghwaytanī
You have sent me astray
لَأَقْعُدَنَّ surely I will sit la-aqʿudanna
surely I will sit
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
صِرَٰطَكَ (on) Your path ṣirāṭaka
(on) Your path
ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ the straight l-mus'taqīma
the straight
١٦ (16)
(16)
[Satan] said, "Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them [i.e., mankind] on Your straight path.
7:17
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
لَـَٔاتِيَنَّهُم surely, I will come to them laātiyannahum
surely, I will come to them
مِّنۢ from min
from
بَيْنِ before bayni
before
أَيْدِيهِمْ them aydīhim
them
وَمِنْ and from wamin
and from
خَلْفِهِمْ behind them khalfihim
behind them
وَعَنْ and from waʿan
and from
أَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ their right aymānihim
their right
وَعَن and from waʿan
and from
شَمَآئِلِهِمْ ۖ their left shamāilihim
their left
وَلَا and not walā
and not
تَجِدُ You (will) find tajidu
You (will) find
أَكْثَرَهُمْ most of them aktharahum
most of them
شَـٰكِرِينَ grateful shākirīna
grateful
١٧ (17)
(17)
Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful [to You]."
7:18
قَالَ (Allah) said qāla
(Allah) said
ٱخْرُجْ Get out ukh'ruj
Get out
مِنْهَا of it min'hā
of it
مَذْءُومًۭا disgraced madhūman
disgraced
مَّدْحُورًۭا ۖ and expelled madḥūran
and expelled
لَّمَن Certainly, whoever laman
Certainly, whoever
تَبِعَكَ follows you tabiʿaka
follows you
مِنْهُمْ among them min'hum
among them
لَأَمْلَأَنَّ surely, I will fill la-amla-anna
surely, I will fill
جَهَنَّمَ Hell jahannama
Hell
مِنكُمْ with you minkum
with you
أَجْمَعِينَ all ajmaʿīna
all
١٨ (18)
(18)
[Allāh] said, "Depart from it [i.e., Paradise], reproached and expelled. Whoever follows you among them - I will surely fill Hell with you, all together."
7:19
وَيَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ And O Adam wayāādamu
And O Adam
ٱسْكُنْ Dwell us'kun
Dwell
أَنتَ you anta
you
وَزَوْجُكَ and your wife wazawjuka
and your wife
ٱلْجَنَّةَ (in) the Garden l-janata
(in) the Garden
فَكُلَا and you both eat fakulā
and you both eat
مِنْ from min
from
حَيْثُ wherever ḥaythu
wherever
شِئْتُمَا you both wish shi'tumā
you both wish
وَلَا but (do) not walā
but (do) not
تَقْرَبَا approach [both of you] taqrabā
approach [both of you]
هَـٰذِهِ this hādhihi
this
ٱلشَّجَرَةَ [the] tree l-shajarata
[the] tree
فَتَكُونَا lest you both be fatakūnā
lest you both be
مِنَ among mina
among
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
١٩ (19)
(19)
And "O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat from wherever you will but do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers."
7:20
فَوَسْوَسَ Then whispered fawaswasa
Then whispered
لَهُمَا to both of them lahumā
to both of them
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ the Shaitaan l-shayṭānu
the Shaitaan
لِيُبْدِىَ to make apparent liyub'diya
to make apparent
لَهُمَا to both of them lahumā
to both of them
مَا what
what
وُۥرِىَ was concealed wūriya
was concealed
عَنْهُمَا from both of them ʿanhumā
from both of them
مِن of min
of
سَوْءَٰتِهِمَا their shame sawātihimā
their shame
وَقَالَ And he said waqāla
And he said
مَا (Did) not
(Did) not
نَهَىٰكُمَا forbid you both nahākumā
forbid you both
رَبُّكُمَا your Lord rabbukumā
your Lord
عَنْ from ʿan
from
هَـٰذِهِ this hādhihi
this
ٱلشَّجَرَةِ [the] tree l-shajarati
[the] tree
إِلَّآ except illā
except
أَن that an
that
تَكُونَا you two become takūnā
you two become
مَلَكَيْنِ Angels malakayni
Angels
أَوْ or aw
or
تَكُونَا you two become takūnā
you two become
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْخَـٰلِدِينَ the immortals l-khālidīna
the immortals
٢٠ (20)
(20)
But Satan whispered to them to make apparent to them that which was concealed from them of their private parts. He said, "Your Lord did not forbid you this tree except that you become angels or become of the immortal."
7:21
وَقَاسَمَهُمَآ And he swore (to) both of them waqāsamahumā
And he swore (to) both of them
إِنِّى Indeed, I am innī
Indeed, I am
لَكُمَا to both of you lakumā
to both of you
لَمِنَ among lamina
among
ٱلنَّـٰصِحِينَ the sincere advisors l-nāṣiḥīna
the sincere advisors
٢١ (21)
(21)
And he swore [by Allāh] to them, "Indeed, I am to you from among the sincere advisors."
7:22
فَدَلَّىٰهُمَا So he made both of them fall fadallāhumā
So he made both of them fall
بِغُرُورٍۢ ۚ by deception bighurūrin
by deception
فَلَمَّا Then when falammā
Then when
ذَاقَا they both tasted dhāqā
they both tasted
ٱلشَّجَرَةَ the tree l-shajarata
the tree
بَدَتْ became apparent badat
became apparent
لَهُمَا to both of them lahumā
to both of them
سَوْءَٰتُهُمَا their shame sawātuhumā
their shame
وَطَفِقَا and they began waṭafiqā
and they began
يَخْصِفَانِ (to) fasten yakhṣifāni
(to) fasten
عَلَيْهِمَا over themselves ʿalayhimā
over themselves
مِن from min
from
وَرَقِ (the) leaves waraqi
(the) leaves
ٱلْجَنَّةِ ۖ (of) the Garden l-janati
(of) the Garden
وَنَادَىٰهُمَا And called them both wanādāhumā
And called them both
رَبُّهُمَآ their Lord rabbuhumā
their Lord
أَلَمْ Did not alam
Did not
أَنْهَكُمَا I forbid you both anhakumā
I forbid you both
عَن from ʿan
from
تِلْكُمَا this til'kumā
this
ٱلشَّجَرَةِ [the] tree l-shajarati
[the] tree
وَأَقُل and [I] say wa-aqul
and [I] say
لَّكُمَآ to both of you lakumā
to both of you
إِنَّ that inna
that
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ [the] Shaitaan l-shayṭāna
[the] Shaitaan
لَكُمَا to both of you lakumā
to both of you
عَدُوٌّۭ (is) an enemy ʿaduwwun
(is) an enemy
مُّبِينٌۭ open mubīnun
open
٢٢ (22)
(22)
So he made them fall, through deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called to them, "Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is to you a clear enemy?"
7:23
قَالَا Both of them said qālā
Both of them said
رَبَّنَا Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord
ظَلَمْنَآ we have wronged ẓalamnā
we have wronged
أَنفُسَنَا ourselves anfusanā
ourselves
وَإِن and if wa-in
and if
لَّمْ not lam
not
تَغْفِرْ You forgive taghfir
You forgive
لَنَا [for] us lanā
[for] us
وَتَرْحَمْنَا and have mercy (on) us watarḥamnā
and have mercy (on) us
لَنَكُونَنَّ surely, we will be lanakūnanna
surely, we will be
مِنَ among mina
among
ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ the losers l-khāsirīna
the losers
٢٣ (23)
(23)
They said, "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers."
7:24
قَالَ (Allah) said qāla
(Allah) said
ٱهْبِطُوا۟ Get down ih'biṭū
Get down
بَعْضُكُمْ some of you baʿḍukum
some of you
لِبَعْضٍ to some others libaʿḍin
to some others
عَدُوٌّۭ ۖ (as) enemy ʿaduwwun
(as) enemy
وَلَكُمْ And for you walakum
And for you
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
مُسْتَقَرٌّۭ (is) a dwelling place mus'taqarrun
(is) a dwelling place
وَمَتَـٰعٌ and livelihood wamatāʿun
and livelihood
إِلَىٰ for ilā
for
حِينٍۢ a time ḥīnin
a time
٢٤ (24)
(24)
[Allāh] said, "Descend, being to one another enemies. And for you on the earth is a place of settlement and enjoyment [i.e., provision] for a time."
7:25
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
فِيهَا In it fīhā
In it
تَحْيَوْنَ you will live taḥyawna
you will live
وَفِيهَا and in it wafīhā
and in it
تَمُوتُونَ you will die tamūtūna
you will die
وَمِنْهَا and from it wamin'hā
and from it
تُخْرَجُونَ you will be brought forth tukh'rajūna
you will be brought forth
٢٥ (25)
(25)
He said, "Therein you will live, and therein you will die, and from it you will be brought forth."
7:26
يَـٰبَنِىٓ O Children yābanī
O Children
ءَادَمَ (of) Adam ādama
(of) Adam
قَدْ Verily qad
Verily
أَنزَلْنَا We have sent down anzalnā
We have sent down
عَلَيْكُمْ to you ʿalaykum
to you
لِبَاسًۭا clothing libāsan
clothing
يُوَٰرِى it covers yuwārī
it covers
سَوْءَٰتِكُمْ your shame sawātikum
your shame
وَرِيشًۭا ۖ and (as) an adornment warīshan
and (as) an adornment
وَلِبَاسُ But the clothing walibāsu
But the clothing
ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ (of) [the] righteousness l-taqwā
(of) [the] righteousness
ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that
خَيْرٌۭ ۚ (is) best khayrun
(is) best
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
مِنْ (is) from min
(is) from
ءَايَـٰتِ (the) Signs āyāti
(the) Signs
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may laʿallahum
so that they may
يَذَّكَّرُونَ remember yadhakkarūna
remember
٢٦ (26)
(26)
O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness - that is best. That is from the signs of Allāh that perhaps they will remember.
7:27
يَـٰبَنِىٓ O Children yābanī
O Children
ءَادَمَ (of) Adam ādama
(of) Adam
لَا (Let) not
(Let) not
يَفْتِنَنَّكُمُ tempt you yaftinannakumu
tempt you
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ [the] Shaitaan l-shayṭānu
[the] Shaitaan
كَمَآ as kamā
as
أَخْرَجَ he drove out akhraja
he drove out
أَبَوَيْكُم your parents abawaykum
your parents
مِّنَ from mina
from
ٱلْجَنَّةِ Paradise l-janati
Paradise
يَنزِعُ stripping yanziʿu
stripping
عَنْهُمَا from both of them ʿanhumā
from both of them
لِبَاسَهُمَا their clothing libāsahumā
their clothing
لِيُرِيَهُمَا to show both of them liyuriyahumā
to show both of them
سَوْءَٰتِهِمَآ ۗ their shame sawātihimā
their shame
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he innahu
Indeed, he
يَرَىٰكُمْ sees you yarākum
sees you
هُوَ he huwa
he
وَقَبِيلُهُۥ and his tribe waqabīluhu
and his tribe
مِنْ from min
from
حَيْثُ where ḥaythu
where
لَا not
not
تَرَوْنَهُمْ ۗ you see them tarawnahum
you see them
إِنَّا Indeed innā
Indeed
جَعَلْنَا We have made jaʿalnā
We have made
ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ the devils l-shayāṭīna
the devils
أَوْلِيَآءَ friends awliyāa
friends
لِلَّذِينَ of those who lilladhīna
of those who
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يُؤْمِنُونَ believe yu'minūna
believe
٢٧ (27)
(27)
O children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts. Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. Indeed, We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe.
7:28
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when
فَعَلُوا۟ they do faʿalū
they do
فَـٰحِشَةًۭ immorality fāḥishatan
immorality
قَالُوا۟ they say qālū
they say
وَجَدْنَا We found wajadnā
We found
عَلَيْهَآ on it ʿalayhā
on it
ءَابَآءَنَا our forefathers ābāanā
our forefathers
وَٱللَّهُ and Allah wal-lahu
and Allah
أَمَرَنَا (has) ordered us amaranā
(has) ordered us
بِهَا ۗ of it bihā
of it
قُلْ Say qul
Say
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
لَا (does) not
(does) not
يَأْمُرُ order yamuru
order
بِٱلْفَحْشَآءِ ۖ immorality bil-faḥshāi
immorality
أَتَقُولُونَ Do you say ataqūlūna
Do you say
عَلَى about ʿalā
about
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
مَا what
what
لَا not
not
تَعْلَمُونَ you know taʿlamūna
you know
٢٨ (28)
(28)
And when they commit an immorality, they say, "We found our fathers doing it, and Allāh has ordered us to do it." Say, "Indeed, Allāh does not order immorality. Do you say about Allāh that which you do not know?"
7:29
قُلْ Say qul
Say
أَمَرَ (Has been) ordered amara
(Has been) ordered
رَبِّى (by) my Lord rabbī
(by) my Lord
بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۖ justice bil-qis'ṭi
justice
وَأَقِيمُوا۟ and set wa-aqīmū
and set
وُجُوهَكُمْ your faces wujūhakum
your faces
عِندَ at ʿinda
at
كُلِّ every kulli
every
مَسْجِدٍۢ masjid masjidin
masjid
وَٱدْعُوهُ and invoke Him wa-id'ʿūhu
and invoke Him
مُخْلِصِينَ (being) sincere mukh'liṣīna
(being) sincere
لَهُ to Him lahu
to Him
ٱلدِّينَ ۚ (in) the religion l-dīna
(in) the religion
كَمَا As kamā
As
بَدَأَكُمْ He originated you bada-akum
He originated you
تَعُودُونَ (so) will you return taʿūdūna
(so) will you return
٢٩ (29)
(29)
Say, [O Muḥammad], "My Lord has ordered justice and that you direct yourselves [to the Qiblah] at every place [or time] of prostration, and invoke Him, sincere to Him in religion." Just as He originated you, you will return [to life] -
7:30
فَرِيقًا A group farīqan
A group
هَدَىٰ He guided hadā
He guided
وَفَرِيقًا and a group wafarīqan
and a group
حَقَّ deserved ḥaqqa
deserved
عَلَيْهِمُ [on] they ʿalayhimu
[on] they
ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةُ ۗ the astraying l-ḍalālatu
the astraying
إِنَّهُمُ Indeed, they innahumu
Indeed, they
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ take ittakhadhū
take
ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ the devils l-shayāṭīna
the devils
أَوْلِيَآءَ (as) allies awliyāa
(as) allies
مِن from min
from
دُونِ besides dūni
besides
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
وَيَحْسَبُونَ while they think wayaḥsabūna
while they think
أَنَّهُم that they annahum
that they
مُّهْتَدُونَ (are the) guided-ones muh'tadūna
(are the) guided-ones
٣٠ (30)
(30)
A group [of you] He guided, and a group deserved [to be in] error. Indeed, they [i.e., the latter] had taken the devils as allies instead of Allāh while they thought that they were guided.
7:31
۞ يَـٰبَنِىٓ O Children yābanī
O Children
ءَادَمَ (of) Adam ādama
(of) Adam
خُذُوا۟ Take khudhū
Take
زِينَتَكُمْ your adornment zīnatakum
your adornment
عِندَ at ʿinda
at
كُلِّ every kulli
every
مَسْجِدٍۢ masjid masjidin
masjid
وَكُلُوا۟ and eat wakulū
and eat
وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ and drink wa-ish'rabū
and drink
وَلَا but (do) not walā
but (do) not
تُسْرِفُوٓا۟ ۚ be extravagant tus'rifū
be extravagant
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He innahu
Indeed, He
لَا (does) not
(does) not
يُحِبُّ love yuḥibbu
love
ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ the extravagant ones l-mus'rifīna
the extravagant ones
٣١ (31)
(31)
O children of Adam, take your adornment [i.e., wear your clothing] at every masjid, and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.
7:32
قُلْ Say qul
Say
مَنْ Who man
Who
حَرَّمَ has forbidden ḥarrama
has forbidden
زِينَةَ (the) adornment zīnata
(the) adornment
ٱللَّهِ (from) Allah l-lahi
(from) Allah
ٱلَّتِىٓ which allatī
which
أَخْرَجَ He has brought forth akhraja
He has brought forth
لِعِبَادِهِۦ for His slaves liʿibādihi
for His slaves
وَٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ and the pure things wal-ṭayibāti
and the pure things
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلرِّزْقِ ۚ sustenance l-riz'qi
sustenance
قُلْ Say qul
Say
هِىَ They hiya
They
لِلَّذِينَ (are) for those who lilladhīna
(are) for those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
فِى during
during
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ the life l-ḥayati
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
خَالِصَةًۭ exclusively (for them) khāliṣatan
exclusively (for them)
يَوْمَ (on the) Day yawma
(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۗ (of) Resurrection l-qiyāmati
(of) Resurrection
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika
Thus
نُفَصِّلُ We explain nufaṣṣilu
We explain
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ the Signs l-āyāti
the Signs
لِقَوْمٍۢ for (the) people liqawmin
for (the) people
يَعْلَمُونَ who know yaʿlamūna
who know
٣٢ (32)
(32)
Say, "Who has forbidden the adornment of [i.e., from] Allāh which He has produced for His servants and the good [lawful] things of provision?" Say, "They are for those who believed during the life of this world, exclusively [for them] on the Day of Resurrection." Thus do We detail the verses for a people who know.
7:33
قُلْ Say qul
Say
إِنَّمَا Only innamā
Only
حَرَّمَ (had) forbidden ḥarrama
(had) forbidden
رَبِّىَ my Lord rabbiya
my Lord
ٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ the shameful deeds l-fawāḥisha
the shameful deeds
مَا what
what
ظَهَرَ (is) apparent ẓahara
(is) apparent
مِنْهَا of it min'hā
of it
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
بَطَنَ is concealed baṭana
is concealed
وَٱلْإِثْمَ and the sin wal-ith'ma
and the sin
وَٱلْبَغْىَ and the oppression wal-baghya
and the oppression
بِغَيْرِ without bighayri
without
ٱلْحَقِّ [the] right l-ḥaqi
[the] right
وَأَن and that wa-an
and that
تُشْرِكُوا۟ you associate (others) tush'rikū
you associate (others)
بِٱللَّهِ with Allah bil-lahi
with Allah
مَا what
what
لَمْ not lam
not
يُنَزِّلْ He (has) sent down yunazzil
He (has) sent down
بِهِۦ of it bihi
of it
سُلْطَـٰنًۭا any authority sul'ṭānan
any authority
وَأَن and that wa-an
and that
تَقُولُوا۟ you say taqūlū
you say
عَلَى about ʿalā
about
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
مَا what
what
لَا not
not
تَعْلَمُونَ you know taʿlamūna
you know
٣٣ (33)
(33)
Say, "My Lord has only forbidden immoralities - what is apparent of them and what is concealed - and sin, and oppression without right, and that you associate with Allāh that for which He has not sent down authority, and that you say about Allāh that which you do not know."
7:34
وَلِكُلِّ And for every walikulli
And for every
أُمَّةٍ nation ummatin
nation
أَجَلٌۭ ۖ (is a fixed) term ajalun
(is a fixed) term
فَإِذَا So when fa-idhā
So when
جَآءَ comes jāa
comes
أَجَلُهُمْ their term ajaluhum
their term
لَا (they can) not
(they can) not
يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ seek to delay yastakhirūna
seek to delay
سَاعَةًۭ ۖ an hour sāʿatan
an hour
وَلَا and not walā
and not
يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ seek to advance (it) yastaqdimūna
seek to advance (it)
٣٤ (34)
(34)
And for every nation is a [specified] term. So when their time has come, they will not remain behind an hour, nor will they precede [it].
7:35
يَـٰبَنِىٓ O Children yābanī
O Children
ءَادَمَ (of) Adam ādama
(of) Adam
إِمَّا If immā
If
يَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ come to you yatiyannakum
come to you
رُسُلٌۭ Messengers rusulun
Messengers
مِّنكُمْ from you minkum
from you
يَقُصُّونَ relating yaquṣṣūna
relating
عَلَيْكُمْ to you ʿalaykum
to you
ءَايَـٰتِى ۙ My Verses āyātī
My Verses
فَمَنِ then whoever famani
then whoever
ٱتَّقَىٰ fears Allah ittaqā
fears Allah
وَأَصْلَحَ and reforms wa-aṣlaḥa
and reforms
فَلَا then no falā
then no
خَوْفٌ fear khawfun
fear
عَلَيْهِمْ on them ʿalayhim
on them
وَلَا and not walā
and not
هُمْ they hum
they
يَحْزَنُونَ will grieve yaḥzanūna
will grieve
٣٥ (35)
(35)
O children of Adam, if there come to you messengers from among you relating to you My verses [i.e., scriptures and laws], then whoever fears Allāh and reforms - there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.
7:36
وَٱلَّذِينَ But those who wa-alladhīna
But those who
كَذَّبُوا۟ deny kadhabū
deny
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا Our Verses biāyātinā
Our Verses
وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ and (are) arrogant wa-is'takbarū
and (are) arrogant
عَنْهَآ towards them ʿanhā
towards them
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those ulāika
those
أَصْحَـٰبُ (are the) companions aṣḥābu
(are the) companions
ٱلنَّارِ ۖ (of) the Fire l-nāri
(of) the Fire
هُمْ they hum
they
فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it
خَـٰلِدُونَ will abide forever khālidūna
will abide forever
٣٦ (36)
(36)
But the ones who deny Our verses and are arrogant toward them - those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.
7:37
فَمَنْ Then who faman
Then who
أَظْلَمُ (is) more unjust aẓlamu
(is) more unjust
مِمَّنِ than (one) who mimmani
than (one) who
ٱفْتَرَىٰ invented if'tarā
invented
عَلَى against ʿalā
against
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
كَذِبًا a lie kadhiban
a lie
أَوْ or aw
or
كَذَّبَ denies kadhaba
denies
بِـَٔايَـٰتِهِۦٓ ۚ His Verses biāyātihi
His Verses
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
يَنَالُهُمْ will reach them yanāluhum
will reach them
نَصِيبُهُم their portion naṣībuhum
their portion
مِّنَ from mina
from
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ۖ the Book l-kitābi
the Book
حَتَّىٰٓ until ḥattā
until
إِذَا when idhā
when
جَآءَتْهُمْ comes to them jāathum
comes to them
رُسُلُنَا Our messengers (Angels) rusulunā
Our messengers (Angels)
يَتَوَفَّوْنَهُمْ (to) take them in death yatawaffawnahum
(to) take them in death
قَالُوٓا۟ they say qālū
they say
أَيْنَ Where are ayna
Where are
مَا those (whom)
those (whom)
كُنتُمْ you used to kuntum
you used to
تَدْعُونَ invoke tadʿūna
invoke
مِن from min
from
دُونِ besides dūni
besides
ٱللَّهِ ۖ Allah l-lahi
Allah
قَالُوا۟ They say qālū
They say
ضَلُّوا۟ They strayed ḍallū
They strayed
عَنَّا from us ʿannā
from us
وَشَهِدُوا۟ and they (will) testify washahidū
and they (will) testify
عَلَىٰٓ against ʿalā
against
أَنفُسِهِمْ themselves anfusihim
themselves
أَنَّهُمْ that they annahum
that they
كَانُوا۟ were kānū
were
كَـٰفِرِينَ disbelievers kāfirīna
disbelievers
٣٧ (37)
(37)
And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allāh a lie or denies His verses? Those will attain their portion of the decree until, when Our messengers [i.e., angels] come to them to take them in death, they will say, "Where are those you used to invoke besides Allāh?" They will say, "They have departed from us," and will bear witness against themselves that they were disbelievers.
7:38
قَالَ He (will) say qāla
He (will) say
ٱدْخُلُوا۟ Enter ud'khulū
Enter
فِىٓ among
among
أُمَمٍۢ (the) nations umamin
(the) nations
قَدْ (who) qad
(who)
خَلَتْ passed away khalat
passed away
مِن from min
from
قَبْلِكُم before you qablikum
before you
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلْجِنِّ the jinn l-jini
the jinn
وَٱلْإِنسِ and the men wal-insi
and the men
فِى in
in
ٱلنَّارِ ۖ the Fire l-nāri
the Fire
كُلَّمَا Every time kullamā
Every time
دَخَلَتْ entered dakhalat
entered
أُمَّةٌۭ a nation ummatun
a nation
لَّعَنَتْ it cursed laʿanat
it cursed
أُخْتَهَا ۖ its sister (nation) ukh'tahā
its sister (nation)
حَتَّىٰٓ until ḥattā
until
إِذَا when idhā
when
ٱدَّارَكُوا۟ they had overtaken one another iddārakū
they had overtaken one another
فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it
جَمِيعًۭا all jamīʿan
all
قَالَتْ (will) say qālat
(will) say
أُخْرَىٰهُمْ (the) last of them ukh'rāhum
(the) last of them
لِأُولَىٰهُمْ about the first of them liūlāhum
about the first of them
رَبَّنَا Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ these hāulāi
these
أَضَلُّونَا misled us aḍallūnā
misled us
فَـَٔاتِهِمْ so give them faātihim
so give them
عَذَابًۭا punishment ʿadhāban
punishment
ضِعْفًۭا double ḍiʿ'fan
double
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلنَّارِ ۖ the Fire l-nāri
the Fire
قَالَ He (will) say qāla
He (will) say
لِكُلٍّۢ For each likullin
For each
ضِعْفٌۭ (is) a double ḍiʿ'fun
(is) a double
وَلَـٰكِن [and] but walākin
[and] but
لَّا not
not
تَعْلَمُونَ you know taʿlamūna
you know
٣٨ (38)
(38)
[Allāh] will say, "Enter among nations which had passed on before you of jinn and mankind into the Fire." Every time a nation enters, it will curse its sister until, when they have all overtaken one another therein, the last of them will say about the first of them, "Our Lord, these had misled us, so give them a double punishment of the Fire." He will say, "For each is double, but you do not know."
7:39
وَقَالَتْ And (will) say waqālat
And (will) say
أُولَىٰهُمْ (the) first of them ūlāhum
(the) first of them
لِأُخْرَىٰهُمْ to (the) last of them li-ukh'rāhum
to (the) last of them
فَمَا Then not famā
Then not
كَانَ is kāna
is
لَكُمْ for you lakum
for you
عَلَيْنَا upon us ʿalaynā
upon us
مِن any min
any
فَضْلٍۢ superiority faḍlin
superiority
فَذُوقُوا۟ so taste fadhūqū
so taste
ٱلْعَذَابَ the punishment l-ʿadhāba
the punishment
بِمَا for what bimā
for what
كُنتُمْ you used to kuntum
you used to
تَكْسِبُونَ earn taksibūna
earn
٣٩ (39)
(39)
And the first of them will say to the last of them, "Then you had not any favor over us, so taste the punishment for what you used to earn."
7:40
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَذَّبُوا۟ denied kadhabū
denied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا Our Verses biāyātinā
Our Verses
وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ and (were) arrogant wa-is'takbarū
and (were) arrogant
عَنْهَا towards them ʿanhā
towards them
لَا (will) not
(will) not
تُفَتَّحُ be opened tufattaḥu
be opened
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
أَبْوَٰبُ (the) doors abwābu
(the) doors
ٱلسَّمَآءِ (of) the heaven l-samāi
(of) the heaven
وَلَا and not walā
and not
يَدْخُلُونَ they will enter yadkhulūna
they will enter
ٱلْجَنَّةَ Paradise l-janata
Paradise
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
يَلِجَ passes yalija
passes
ٱلْجَمَلُ the camel l-jamalu
the camel
فِى through
through
سَمِّ (the) eye sammi
(the) eye
ٱلْخِيَاطِ ۚ (of) the needle l-khiyāṭi
(of) the needle
وَكَذَٰلِكَ And thus wakadhālika
And thus
نَجْزِى We recompense najzī
We recompense
ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ the criminals l-muj'rimīna
the criminals
٤٠ (40)
(40)
Indeed, those who deny Our verses and are arrogant toward them - the gates of Heaven will not be opened for them, nor will they enter Paradise until a camel enters into the eye of a needle [i.e., never]. And thus do We recompense the criminals.
7:41
لَهُم For them lahum
For them
مِّن of min
of
جَهَنَّمَ (the) Hell jahannama
(the) Hell
مِهَادٌۭ (is) a bed mihādun
(is) a bed
وَمِن and from wamin
and from
فَوْقِهِمْ over them fawqihim
over them
غَوَاشٍۢ ۚ coverings ghawāshin
coverings
وَكَذَٰلِكَ And thus wakadhālika
And thus
نَجْزِى We recompense najzī
We recompense
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
٤١ (41)
(41)
They will have from Hell a bed and over them coverings [of fire]. And thus do We recompense the wrongdoers.
7:42
وَٱلَّذِينَ But those who wa-alladhīna
But those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ [the] righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti
[the] righteous deeds
لَا not
not
نُكَلِّفُ We burden nukallifu
We burden
نَفْسًا any soul nafsan
any soul
إِلَّا except illā
except
وُسْعَهَآ (to) its capacity wus'ʿahā
(to) its capacity
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
أَصْحَـٰبُ (are the) companions aṣḥābu
(are the) companions
ٱلْجَنَّةِ ۖ (of) Paradise l-janati
(of) Paradise
هُمْ they hum
they
فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it
خَـٰلِدُونَ (will) abide forever khālidūna
(will) abide forever
٤٢ (42)
(42)
But those who believed and did righteous deeds - We charge no soul except [within] its capacity. Those are the companions of Paradise; they will abide therein eternally.
7:43
وَنَزَعْنَا And We will remove wanazaʿnā
And We will remove
مَا whatever
whatever
فِى (is) in
(is) in
صُدُورِهِم their breasts ṣudūrihim
their breasts
مِّنْ of min
of
غِلٍّۢ malice ghillin
malice
تَجْرِى Flows tajrī
Flows
مِن from min
from
تَحْتِهِمُ underneath them taḥtihimu
underneath them
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖ the rivers l-anhāru
the rivers
وَقَالُوا۟ And they will say waqālū
And they will say
ٱلْحَمْدُ All the praise l-ḥamdu
All the praise
لِلَّهِ (is) for Allah lillahi
(is) for Allah
ٱلَّذِى the One Who alladhī
the One Who
هَدَىٰنَا guided us hadānā
guided us
لِهَـٰذَا to this lihādhā
to this
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
كُنَّا we were kunnā
we were
لِنَهْتَدِىَ to receive guidance linahtadiya
to receive guidance
لَوْلَآ if not lawlā
if not
أَنْ [that] an
[that]
هَدَىٰنَا (had) guided us hadānā
(had) guided us
ٱللَّهُ ۖ Allah l-lahu
Allah
لَقَدْ Certainly laqad
Certainly
جَآءَتْ came jāat
came
رُسُلُ Messengers rusulu
Messengers
رَبِّنَا (of) our Lord rabbinā
(of) our Lord
بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ with the truth bil-ḥaqi
with the truth
وَنُودُوٓا۟ And they will be addressed wanūdū
And they will be addressed
أَن [that] an
[that]
تِلْكُمُ This til'kumu
This
ٱلْجَنَّةُ (is) Paradise l-janatu
(is) Paradise
أُورِثْتُمُوهَا you have been made to inherit it ūrith'tumūhā
you have been made to inherit it
بِمَا for what bimā
for what
كُنتُمْ you used to kuntum
you used to
تَعْمَلُونَ do taʿmalūna
do
٤٣ (43)
(43)
And We will have removed whatever is within their breasts of resentment, [while] flowing beneath them are rivers. And they will say, "Praise to Allāh, who has guided us to this; and we would never have been guided if Allāh had not guided us. Certainly the messengers of our Lord had come with the truth." And they will be called, "This is Paradise, which you have been made to inherit for what you used to do."
7:44
وَنَادَىٰٓ And will call out wanādā
And will call out
أَصْحَـٰبُ (the) companions aṣḥābu
(the) companions
ٱلْجَنَّةِ (of) Paradise l-janati
(of) Paradise
أَصْحَـٰبَ (to the) companions aṣḥāba
(to the) companions
ٱلنَّارِ (of) the Fire l-nāri
(of) the Fire
أَن that an
that
قَدْ Indeed qad
Indeed
وَجَدْنَا we found wajadnā
we found
مَا what
what
وَعَدَنَا (had) promised us waʿadanā
(had) promised us
رَبُّنَا our Lord rabbunā
our Lord
حَقًّۭا true ḥaqqan
true
فَهَلْ So have fahal
So have
وَجَدتُّم you found wajadttum
you found
مَّا what
what
وَعَدَ (was) promised waʿada
(was) promised
رَبُّكُمْ (by) your Lord rabbukum
(by) your Lord
حَقًّۭا ۖ (to be) true ḥaqqan
(to be) true
قَالُوا۟ They will say qālū
They will say
نَعَمْ ۚ Yes naʿam
Yes
فَأَذَّنَ Then will announce fa-adhana
Then will announce
مُؤَذِّنٌۢ an announcer mu-adhinun
an announcer
بَيْنَهُمْ among them baynahum
among them
أَن [that] an
[that]
لَّعْنَةُ (The) curse laʿnatu
(The) curse
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
عَلَى (is) on ʿalā
(is) on
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
٤٤ (44)
(44)
And the companions of Paradise will call out to the companions of the Fire, "We have already found what our Lord promised us to be true. Have you found what your Lord promised to be true?" They will say, "Yes." Then an announcer will announce among them, "The curse of Allāh shall be upon the wrongdoers
7:45
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who
يَصُدُّونَ hinder yaṣuddūna
hinder
عَن from ʿan
from
سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
وَيَبْغُونَهَا and seek in it wayabghūnahā
and seek in it
عِوَجًۭا crookedness ʿiwajan
crookedness
وَهُم while they (are) wahum
while they (are)
بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ concerning the Hereafter bil-ākhirati
concerning the Hereafter
كَـٰفِرُونَ disbelievers kāfirūna
disbelievers
٤٥ (45)
(45)
Who averted [people] from the way of Allāh and sought to make it [seem] deviant while they were, concerning the Hereafter, disbelievers."
7:46
وَبَيْنَهُمَا And between them wabaynahumā
And between them
حِجَابٌۭ ۚ (will be) a partition ḥijābun
(will be) a partition
وَعَلَى and on waʿalā
and on
ٱلْأَعْرَافِ the heights l-aʿrāfi
the heights
رِجَالٌۭ (will be) men rijālun
(will be) men
يَعْرِفُونَ recognizing yaʿrifūna
recognizing
كُلًّۢا all kullan
all
بِسِيمَىٰهُمْ ۚ by their marks bisīmāhum
by their marks
وَنَادَوْا۟ And they will call out wanādaw
And they will call out
أَصْحَـٰبَ (to the) companions aṣḥāba
(to the) companions
ٱلْجَنَّةِ (of) Paradise l-janati
(of) Paradise
أَن that an
that
سَلَـٰمٌ Peace salāmun
Peace
عَلَيْكُمْ ۚ (be) upon you ʿalaykum
(be) upon you
لَمْ Not lam
Not
يَدْخُلُوهَا they have entered it yadkhulūhā
they have entered it
وَهُمْ but they wahum
but they
يَطْمَعُونَ hope yaṭmaʿūna
hope
٤٦ (46)
(46)
And between them will be a partition [i.e., wall], and on [its] elevations are men who recognize all by their mark. And they call out to the companions of Paradise, "Peace be upon you." They have not [yet] entered it, but they long intensely.
7:47
۞ وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when
صُرِفَتْ are turned ṣurifat
are turned
أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ their eyes abṣāruhum
their eyes
تِلْقَآءَ towards til'qāa
towards
أَصْحَـٰبِ (the) companions aṣḥābi
(the) companions
ٱلنَّارِ (of) the Fire l-nāri
(of) the Fire
قَالُوا۟ they (will) say qālū
they (will) say
رَبَّنَا Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord
لَا (Do) not
(Do) not
تَجْعَلْنَا place us tajʿalnā
place us
مَعَ with maʿa
with
ٱلْقَوْمِ the people l-qawmi
the people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
٤٧ (47)
(47)
And when their eyes are turned toward the companions of the Fire, they say, "Our Lord, do not place us with the wrongdoing people."
7:48
وَنَادَىٰٓ And (will) call out wanādā
And (will) call out
أَصْحَـٰبُ (the) companions aṣḥābu
(the) companions
ٱلْأَعْرَافِ (of) the heights l-aʿrāfi
(of) the heights
رِجَالًۭا (to) men rijālan
(to) men
يَعْرِفُونَهُم whom they recognize yaʿrifūnahum
whom they recognize
بِسِيمَىٰهُمْ by their marks bisīmāhum
by their marks
قَالُوا۟ saying qālū
saying
مَآ Not
Not
أَغْنَىٰ (has) availed aghnā
(has) availed
عَنكُمْ [to] you ʿankum
[to] you
جَمْعُكُمْ your gathering jamʿukum
your gathering
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
كُنتُمْ you were kuntum
you were
تَسْتَكْبِرُونَ arrogant (about) tastakbirūna
arrogant (about)
٤٨ (48)
(48)
And the companions of the Elevations will call to men [within Hell] whom they recognize by their mark, saying, "Of no avail to you was your gathering and [the fact] that you were arrogant."
7:49
أَهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ Are these ahāulāi
Are these
ٱلَّذِينَ the ones whom alladhīna
the ones whom
أَقْسَمْتُمْ you had sworn aqsamtum
you had sworn
لَا (that) not
(that) not
يَنَالُهُمُ (will) grant them yanāluhumu
(will) grant them
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
بِرَحْمَةٍ ۚ Mercy biraḥmatin
Mercy
ٱدْخُلُوا۟ Enter ud'khulū
Enter
ٱلْجَنَّةَ Paradise l-janata
Paradise
لَا (There will be) no
(There will be) no
خَوْفٌ fear khawfun
fear
عَلَيْكُمْ upon you ʿalaykum
upon you
وَلَآ and not walā
and not
أَنتُمْ you antum
you
تَحْزَنُونَ will grieve taḥzanūna
will grieve
٤٩ (49)
(49)
[Allāh will say], "Are these the ones whom you [inhabitants of Hell] swore that Allāh would never offer them mercy? Enter Paradise, [O people of the Elevations]. No fear will there be concerning you, nor will you grieve."
7:50
وَنَادَىٰٓ And (will) call out wanādā
And (will) call out
أَصْحَـٰبُ (the) companions aṣḥābu
(the) companions
ٱلنَّارِ (of) the Fire l-nāri
(of) the Fire
أَصْحَـٰبَ (to the) companions aṣḥāba
(to the) companions
ٱلْجَنَّةِ (of) Paradise l-janati
(of) Paradise
أَنْ [that] an
[that]
أَفِيضُوا۟ Pour afīḍū
Pour
عَلَيْنَا upon us ʿalaynā
upon us
مِنَ [of] mina
[of]
ٱلْمَآءِ (some) water l-māi
(some) water
أَوْ or aw
or
مِمَّا of what mimmā
of what
رَزَقَكُمُ (has been) provided (to) you razaqakumu
(has been) provided (to) you
ٱللَّهُ ۚ (by) Allah l-lahu
(by) Allah
قَالُوٓا۟ They (will) say qālū
They (will) say
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
حَرَّمَهُمَا has forbidden both ḥarramahumā
has forbidden both
عَلَى to ʿalā
to
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ the disbelievers l-kāfirīna
the disbelievers
٥٠ (50)
(50)
And the companions of the Fire will call to the companions of Paradise, "Pour upon us some water or from whatever Allāh has provided you." They will say, "Indeed, Allāh has forbidden them both to the disbelievers
7:51
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ took ittakhadhū
took
دِينَهُمْ their religion dīnahum
their religion
لَهْوًۭا (as) an amusement lahwan
(as) an amusement
وَلَعِبًۭا and play walaʿiban
and play
وَغَرَّتْهُمُ and deluded them wagharrathumu
and deluded them
ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ the life l-ḥayatu
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
فَٱلْيَوْمَ So today fal-yawma
So today
نَنسَىٰهُمْ We forget them nansāhum
We forget them
كَمَا as kamā
as
نَسُوا۟ they forgot nasū
they forgot
لِقَآءَ (the) meeting liqāa
(the) meeting
يَوْمِهِمْ (of) their day yawmihim
(of) their day
هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this
وَمَا and [what] wamā
and [what]
كَانُوا۟ (as) they used to kānū
(as) they used to
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا with Our Verses biāyātinā
with Our Verses
يَجْحَدُونَ they reject yajḥadūna
they reject
٥١ (51)
(51)
Who took their religion as distraction and amusement and whom the worldly life deluded." So today We will forget them just as they forgot the meeting of this Day of theirs and for having rejected Our verses.
7:52
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad
And certainly
جِئْنَـٰهُم We had brought them ji'nāhum
We had brought them
بِكِتَـٰبٍۢ a Book bikitābin
a Book
فَصَّلْنَـٰهُ which We have explained faṣṣalnāhu
which We have explained
عَلَىٰ with ʿalā
with
عِلْمٍ knowledge ʿil'min
knowledge
هُدًۭى as guidance hudan
as guidance
وَرَحْمَةًۭ and mercy waraḥmatan
and mercy
لِّقَوْمٍۢ for a people liqawmin
for a people
يُؤْمِنُونَ who believe yu'minūna
who believe
٥٢ (52)
(52)
And We had certainly brought them a Book which We detailed by knowledge - as guidance and mercy to a people who believe.
7:53
هَلْ Do hal
Do
يَنظُرُونَ they wait yanẓurūna
they wait
إِلَّا except illā
except
تَأْوِيلَهُۥ ۚ (for) its fulfillment tawīlahu
(for) its fulfillment
يَوْمَ (The) Day yawma
(The) Day
يَأْتِى (will) come yatī
(will) come
تَأْوِيلُهُۥ its fulfillment tawīluhu
its fulfillment
يَقُولُ will say yaqūlu
will say
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
نَسُوهُ had forgotten it nasūhu
had forgotten it
مِن from min
from
قَبْلُ before qablu
before
قَدْ Verily qad
Verily
جَآءَتْ had come jāat
had come
رُسُلُ (the) Messengers rusulu
(the) Messengers
رَبِّنَا (of) our Lord rabbinā
(of) our Lord
بِٱلْحَقِّ with the truth bil-ḥaqi
with the truth
فَهَل so are (there) fahal
so are (there)
لَّنَا for us lanā
for us
مِن any min
any
شُفَعَآءَ intercessors shufaʿāa
intercessors
فَيَشْفَعُوا۟ so (that) they intercede fayashfaʿū
so (that) they intercede
لَنَآ for us lanā
for us
أَوْ or aw
or
نُرَدُّ we are sent back nuraddu
we are sent back
فَنَعْمَلَ so (that) we do (deeds) fanaʿmala
so (that) we do (deeds)
غَيْرَ other than ghayra
other than
ٱلَّذِى that which alladhī
that which
كُنَّا we used to kunnā
we used to
نَعْمَلُ ۚ do naʿmalu
do
قَدْ Verily qad
Verily
خَسِرُوٓا۟ they lost khasirū
they lost
أَنفُسَهُمْ themselves anfusahum
themselves
وَضَلَّ and strayed waḍalla
and strayed
عَنْهُم from them ʿanhum
from them
مَّا what
what
كَانُوا۟ they used to kānū
they used to
يَفْتَرُونَ invent yaftarūna
invent
٥٣ (53)
(53)
Do they await except its result? The Day its result comes, those who had ignored it before will say, "The messengers of our Lord had come with the truth, so are there [now] any intercessors to intercede for us or could we be sent back to do other than what we used to do?" They will have lost themselves, and lost from them is what they used to invent.
7:54
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
رَبَّكُمُ your Lord rabbakumu
your Lord
ٱللَّهُ (is) Allah l-lahu
(is) Allah
ٱلَّذِى the One Who alladhī
the One Who
خَلَقَ created khalaqa
created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَ and the earth wal-arḍa
and the earth
فِى in
in
سِتَّةِ six sittati
six
أَيَّامٍۢ epochs ayyāmin
epochs
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
ٱسْتَوَىٰ He ascended is'tawā
He ascended
عَلَى on ʿalā
on
ٱلْعَرْشِ the Throne l-ʿarshi
the Throne
يُغْشِى He covers yugh'shī
He covers
ٱلَّيْلَ the night al-layla
the night
ٱلنَّهَارَ (with) the day l-nahāra
(with) the day
يَطْلُبُهُۥ seeking it yaṭlubuhu
seeking it
حَثِيثًۭا rapidly ḥathīthan
rapidly
وَٱلشَّمْسَ and the sun wal-shamsa
and the sun
وَٱلْقَمَرَ and the moon wal-qamara
and the moon
وَٱلنُّجُومَ and the stars wal-nujūma
and the stars
مُسَخَّرَٰتٍۭ subjected musakharātin
subjected
بِأَمْرِهِۦٓ ۗ by His command bi-amrihi
by His command
أَلَا Unquestionably alā
Unquestionably
لَهُ for Him lahu
for Him
ٱلْخَلْقُ (is) the creation l-khalqu
(is) the creation
وَٱلْأَمْرُ ۗ and the command wal-amru
and the command
تَبَارَكَ blessed tabāraka
blessed
ٱللَّهُ (is) Allah l-lahu
(is) Allah
رَبُّ Lord rabbu
Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds
٥٤ (54)
(54)
Indeed, your Lord is Allāh, who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne. He covers the night with the day, [another night] chasing it rapidly; and [He created] the sun, the moon, and the stars, subjected by His command. Unquestionably, His is the creation and the command; blessed is Allāh, Lord of the worlds.
7:55
ٱدْعُوا۟ Call upon id'ʿū
Call upon
رَبَّكُمْ your Lord rabbakum
your Lord
تَضَرُّعًۭا humbly taḍarruʿan
humbly
وَخُفْيَةً ۚ and privately wakhuf'yatan
and privately
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He innahu
Indeed, He
لَا (does) not
(does) not
يُحِبُّ love yuḥibbu
love
ٱلْمُعْتَدِينَ the transgressors l-muʿ'tadīna
the transgressors
٥٥ (55)
(55)
Call upon your Lord in humility and privately; indeed, He does not like transgressors.
7:56
وَلَا And (do) not walā
And (do) not
تُفْسِدُوا۟ cause corruption tuf'sidū
cause corruption
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
بَعْدَ after baʿda
after
إِصْلَـٰحِهَا its reformation iṣ'lāḥihā
its reformation
وَٱدْعُوهُ And call Him wa-id'ʿūhu
And call Him
خَوْفًۭا (in) fear khawfan
(in) fear
وَطَمَعًا ۚ and hope waṭamaʿan
and hope
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
رَحْمَتَ (the) Mercy raḥmata
(the) Mercy
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
قَرِيبٌۭ (is) near qarībun
(is) near
مِّنَ for mina
for
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ the good-doers l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers
٥٦ (56)
(56)
And cause not corruption upon the earth after its reformation. And invoke Him in fear and aspiration. Indeed, the mercy of Allāh is near to the doers of good.
7:57
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who alladhī
(is) the One Who
يُرْسِلُ sends yur'silu
sends
ٱلرِّيَـٰحَ the winds l-riyāḥa
the winds
بُشْرًۢا (as) glad tidings bush'ran
(as) glad tidings
بَيْنَ from bayna
from
يَدَىْ before yaday
before
رَحْمَتِهِۦ ۖ His Mercy raḥmatihi
His Mercy
حَتَّىٰٓ until ḥattā
until
إِذَآ when idhā
when
أَقَلَّتْ they have carried aqallat
they have carried
سَحَابًۭا clouds saḥāban
clouds
ثِقَالًۭا heavy thiqālan
heavy
سُقْنَـٰهُ We drive them suq'nāhu
We drive them
لِبَلَدٍۢ to a land libaladin
to a land
مَّيِّتٍۢ dead mayyitin
dead
فَأَنزَلْنَا then We send down fa-anzalnā
then We send down
بِهِ from it bihi
from it
ٱلْمَآءَ the water l-māa
the water
فَأَخْرَجْنَا then We bring forth fa-akhrajnā
then We bring forth
بِهِۦ from it bihi
from it
مِن (of) min
(of)
كُلِّ all (kinds) kulli
all (kinds)
ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ ۚ (of) fruits l-thamarāti
(of) fruits
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika
Thus
نُخْرِجُ We will bring forth nukh'riju
We will bring forth
ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ the dead l-mawtā
the dead
لَعَلَّكُمْ so that you may laʿallakum
so that you may
تَذَكَّرُونَ take heed tadhakkarūna
take heed
٥٧ (57)
(57)
And it is He who sends the winds as good tidings before His mercy [i.e., rainfall] until, when they have carried heavy rainclouds, We drive them to a dead land and We send down rain therein and bring forth thereby [some] of all the fruits. Thus will We bring forth the dead; perhaps you may be reminded.
7:58
وَٱلْبَلَدُ And the land wal-baladu
And the land
ٱلطَّيِّبُ [the] pure l-ṭayibu
[the] pure
يَخْرُجُ comes forth yakhruju
comes forth
نَبَاتُهُۥ its vegetation nabātuhu
its vegetation
بِإِذْنِ by (the) permission bi-idh'ni
by (the) permission
رَبِّهِۦ ۖ (of) its Lord rabbihi
(of) its Lord
وَٱلَّذِى but which wa-alladhī
but which
خَبُثَ is bad khabutha
is bad
لَا (does) not
(does) not
يَخْرُجُ come forth yakhruju
come forth
إِلَّا except illā
except
نَكِدًۭا ۚ (with) difficulty nakidan
(with) difficulty
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika
Thus
نُصَرِّفُ We explain nuṣarrifu
We explain
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ the Signs l-āyāti
the Signs
لِقَوْمٍۢ for a people liqawmin
for a people
يَشْكُرُونَ who are grateful yashkurūna
who are grateful
٥٨ (58)
(58)
And the good land - its vegetation emerges by permission of its Lord; but that which is bad - nothing emerges except sparsely, with difficulty. Thus do We diversify the signs for a people who are grateful.
7:59
لَقَدْ Certainly laqad
Certainly
أَرْسَلْنَا We sent arsalnā
We sent
نُوحًا Nuh nūḥan
Nuh
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
قَوْمِهِۦ his people qawmihi
his people
فَقَالَ and he said faqāla
and he said
يَـٰقَوْمِ O my people yāqawmi
O my people
ٱعْبُدُوا۟ Worship uʿ'budū
Worship
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
مَا not
not
لَكُم for you lakum
for you
مِّنْ any min
any
إِلَـٰهٍ god ilāhin
god
غَيْرُهُۥٓ other than Him ghayruhu
other than Him
إِنِّىٓ Indeed, I innī
Indeed, I
أَخَافُ [I] fear akhāfu
[I] fear
عَلَيْكُمْ for you ʿalaykum
for you
عَذَابَ punishment ʿadhāba
punishment
يَوْمٍ (of the) Day yawmin
(of the) Day
عَظِيمٍۢ Great ʿaẓīmin
Great
٥٩ (59)
(59)
We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him. Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous Day."
7:60
قَالَ Said qāla
Said
ٱلْمَلَأُ the chiefs l-mala-u
the chiefs
مِن of min
of
قَوْمِهِۦٓ his people qawmihi
his people
إِنَّا Indeed, we innā
Indeed, we
لَنَرَىٰكَ surely see you lanarāka
surely see you
فِى in
in
ضَلَـٰلٍۢ error ḍalālin
error
مُّبِينٍۢ clear mubīnin
clear
٦٠ (60)
(60)
Said the eminent among his people, "Indeed, we see you in clear error."
7:61
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
يَـٰقَوْمِ O my people yāqawmi
O my people
لَيْسَ There is not laysa
There is not
بِى in me
in me
ضَلَـٰلَةٌۭ error ḍalālatun
error
وَلَـٰكِنِّى but I am walākinnī
but I am
رَسُولٌۭ a Messenger rasūlun
a Messenger
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّ (the) Lord rabbi
(the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds
٦١ (61)
(61)
[Noah] said, "O my people, there is not error in me, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.
7:62
أُبَلِّغُكُمْ I convey to you uballighukum
I convey to you
رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ the Messages risālāti
the Messages
رَبِّى (of) my Lord rabbī
(of) my Lord
وَأَنصَحُ and [I] advise wa-anṣaḥu
and [I] advise
لَكُمْ [to] you lakum
[to] you
وَأَعْلَمُ and I know wa-aʿlamu
and I know
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
مَا what
what
لَا not
not
تَعْلَمُونَ you know taʿlamūna
you know
٦٢ (62)
(62)
I convey to you the messages of my Lord and advise you; and I know from Allāh what you do not know.
7:63
أَوَعَجِبْتُمْ Do you wonder awaʿajib'tum
Do you wonder
أَن that an
that
جَآءَكُمْ has come to you jāakum
has come to you
ذِكْرٌۭ a reminder dhik'run
a reminder
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّكُمْ your Lord rabbikum
your Lord
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
رَجُلٍۢ a man rajulin
a man
مِّنكُمْ among you minkum
among you
لِيُنذِرَكُمْ that he may warn you liyundhirakum
that he may warn you
وَلِتَتَّقُوا۟ and that you may fear walitattaqū
and that you may fear
وَلَعَلَّكُمْ and so that you may walaʿallakum
and so that you may
تُرْحَمُونَ receive mercy tur'ḥamūna
receive mercy
٦٣ (63)
(63)
Then do you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man from among you, that he may warn you and that you may fear Allāh so you might receive mercy?"
7:64
فَكَذَّبُوهُ But they denied him fakadhabūhu
But they denied him
فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُ so We saved him fa-anjaynāhu
so We saved him
وَٱلَّذِينَ and those who wa-alladhīna
and those who
مَعَهُۥ (were) with him maʿahu
(were) with him
فِى in
in
ٱلْفُلْكِ the ship l-ful'ki
the ship
وَأَغْرَقْنَا And We drowned wa-aghraqnā
And We drowned
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَذَّبُوا۟ denied kadhabū
denied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ ۚ Our Verses biāyātinā
Our Verses
إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they innahum
Indeed, they
كَانُوا۟ were kānū
were
قَوْمًا a people qawman
a people
عَمِينَ blind ʿamīna
blind
٦٤ (64)
(64)
But they denied him, so We saved him and those who were with him in the ship. And We drowned those who denied Our signs. Indeed, they were a blind people.
7:65
۞ وَإِلَىٰ And to wa-ilā
And to
عَادٍ Aad ʿādin
Aad
أَخَاهُمْ (We sent) their brother akhāhum
(We sent) their brother
هُودًۭا ۗ Hud hūdan
Hud
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
يَـٰقَوْمِ O my people yāqawmi
O my people
ٱعْبُدُوا۟ Worship uʿ'budū
Worship
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
مَا not
not
لَكُم for you lakum
for you
مِّنْ any min
any
إِلَـٰهٍ god ilāhin
god
غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۚ other than Him ghayruhu
other than Him
أَفَلَا Then will not afalā
Then will not
تَتَّقُونَ you fear (Allah) tattaqūna
you fear (Allah)
٦٥ (65)
(65)
And to the ʿAad [We sent] their brother Hūd. He said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him. Then will you not fear Him?"
7:66
قَالَ Said qāla
Said
ٱلْمَلَأُ the chiefs l-mala-u
the chiefs
ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who alladhīna
(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved
مِن from min
from
قَوْمِهِۦٓ his people qawmihi
his people
إِنَّا Indeed, we innā
Indeed, we
لَنَرَىٰكَ surely, see you lanarāka
surely, see you
فِى in
in
سَفَاهَةٍۢ foolishness safāhatin
foolishness
وَإِنَّا and indeed, we wa-innā
and indeed, we
لَنَظُنُّكَ [we] think you lanaẓunnuka
[we] think you
مِنَ (are) of mina
(are) of
ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ the liars l-kādhibīna
the liars
٦٦ (66)
(66)
Said the eminent ones who disbelieved among his people, "Indeed, we see you in foolishness, and indeed, we think you are of the liars."
7:67
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
يَـٰقَوْمِ O my people yāqawmi
O my people
لَيْسَ There is not laysa
There is not
بِى in me
in me
سَفَاهَةٌۭ foolishness safāhatun
foolishness
وَلَـٰكِنِّى but I am walākinnī
but I am
رَسُولٌۭ a Messenger rasūlun
a Messenger
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّ (the) Lord rabbi
(the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds
٦٧ (67)
(67)
[Hūd] said, "O my people, there is not foolishness in me, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.
7:68
أُبَلِّغُكُمْ I convey to you uballighukum
I convey to you
رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ Messages risālāti
Messages
رَبِّى (of) my Lord rabbī
(of) my Lord
وَأَنَا۠ and I am wa-anā
and I am
لَكُمْ to you lakum
to you
نَاصِحٌ an adviser nāṣiḥun
an adviser
أَمِينٌ trustworthy amīnun
trustworthy
٦٨ (68)
(68)
I convey to you the messages of my Lord, and I am to you a trustworthy adviser.
7:69
أَوَعَجِبْتُمْ Do you wonder awaʿajib'tum
Do you wonder
أَن that an
that
جَآءَكُمْ has come to you jāakum
has come to you
ذِكْرٌۭ a reminder dhik'run
a reminder
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّكُمْ your Lord rabbikum
your Lord
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
رَجُلٍۢ a man rajulin
a man
مِّنكُمْ among you minkum
among you
لِيُنذِرَكُمْ ۚ that he may warn you liyundhirakum
that he may warn you
وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟ And remember wa-udh'kurū
And remember
إِذْ when idh
when
جَعَلَكُمْ He made you jaʿalakum
He made you
خُلَفَآءَ successors khulafāa
successors
مِنۢ from min
from
بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after
قَوْمِ (the) people qawmi
(the) people
نُوحٍۢ (of) Nuh nūḥin
(of) Nuh
وَزَادَكُمْ and increased you wazādakum
and increased you
فِى in
in
ٱلْخَلْقِ the stature l-khalqi
the stature
بَصْۜطَةًۭ ۖ extensively baṣ'ṭatan
extensively
فَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟ So remember fa-udh'kurū
So remember
ءَالَآءَ (the) Bounties ālāa
(the) Bounties
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
لَعَلَّكُمْ so that you may laʿallakum
so that you may
تُفْلِحُونَ succeed tuf'liḥūna
succeed
٦٩ (69)
(69)
Then do you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man from among you, that he may warn you? And remember when He made you successors after the people of Noah and increased you in stature extensively. So remember the favors of Allāh that you might succeed."
7:70
قَالُوٓا۟ They said qālū
They said
أَجِئْتَنَا Have you come to us aji'tanā
Have you come to us
لِنَعْبُدَ that we (should) worship linaʿbuda
that we (should) worship
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
وَحْدَهُۥ Alone waḥdahu
Alone
وَنَذَرَ and we forsake wanadhara
and we forsake
مَا what
what
كَانَ used to kāna
used to
يَعْبُدُ worship yaʿbudu
worship
ءَابَآؤُنَا ۖ our forefathers ābāunā
our forefathers
فَأْتِنَا Then bring us fatinā
Then bring us
بِمَا of what bimā
of what
تَعِدُنَآ you promise us taʿidunā
you promise us
إِن if in
if
كُنتَ you are kunta
you are
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ the truthful l-ṣādiqīna
the truthful
٧٠ (70)
(70)
They said, "Have you come to us that we should worship Allāh alone and leave what our fathers have worshipped? Then bring us what you promise us, if you should be of the truthful."
7:71
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
قَدْ Verily qad
Verily
وَقَعَ has fallen waqaʿa
has fallen
عَلَيْكُم upon you ʿalaykum
upon you
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّكُمْ your Lord rabbikum
your Lord
رِجْسٌۭ punishment rij'sun
punishment
وَغَضَبٌ ۖ and anger waghaḍabun
and anger
أَتُجَـٰدِلُونَنِى Do you dispute with me atujādilūnanī
Do you dispute with me
فِىٓ concerning
concerning
أَسْمَآءٍۢ names asmāin
names
سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ you have named them sammaytumūhā
you have named them
أَنتُمْ you antum
you
وَءَابَآؤُكُم and your forefathers waābāukum
and your forefathers
مَّا Not
Not
نَزَّلَ (has been) sent down nazzala
(has been) sent down
ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah l-lahu
(by) Allah
بِهَا for it bihā
for it
مِن any min
any
سُلْطَـٰنٍۢ ۚ authority sul'ṭānin
authority
فَٱنتَظِرُوٓا۟ Then wait fa-intaẓirū
Then wait
إِنِّى indeed, I am innī
indeed, I am
مَعَكُم with you maʿakum
with you
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلْمُنتَظِرِينَ the ones who wait l-muntaẓirīna
the ones who wait
٧١ (71)
(71)
[Hūd] said, "Already have defilement and anger fallen upon you from your Lord. Do you dispute with me concerning [mere] names you have named them, you and your fathers, for which Allāh has not sent down any authority? Then wait; indeed, I am with you among those who wait."
7:72
فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُ So We saved him fa-anjaynāhu
So We saved him
وَٱلَّذِينَ and those wa-alladhīna
and those
مَعَهُۥ with him maʿahu
with him
بِرَحْمَةٍۢ by Mercy biraḥmatin
by Mercy
مِّنَّا from Us minnā
from Us
وَقَطَعْنَا And We cut off waqaṭaʿnā
And We cut off
دَابِرَ the roots dābira
the roots
ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who alladhīna
(of) those who
كَذَّبُوا۟ denied kadhabū
denied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا ۖ Our Signs biāyātinā
Our Signs
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
كَانُوا۟ they were kānū
they were
مُؤْمِنِينَ believers mu'minīna
believers
٧٢ (72)
(72)
So We saved him and those with him by mercy from Us. And We eliminated those who denied Our signs, and they were not [at all] believers.
7:73
وَإِلَىٰ And to wa-ilā
And to
ثَمُودَ Thamud thamūda
Thamud
أَخَاهُمْ (We sent) their brother akhāhum
(We sent) their brother
صَـٰلِحًۭا ۗ Salih ṣāliḥan
Salih
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
يَـٰقَوْمِ O my people yāqawmi
O my people
ٱعْبُدُوا۟ Worship uʿ'budū
Worship
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
مَا not
not
لَكُم for you lakum
for you
مِّنْ any min
any
إِلَـٰهٍ god ilāhin
god
غَيْرُهُۥ ۖ other than Him ghayruhu
other than Him
قَدْ Verily qad
Verily
جَآءَتْكُم has come to you jāatkum
has come to you
بَيِّنَةٌۭ a clear proof bayyinatun
a clear proof
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ your Lord rabbikum
your Lord
هَـٰذِهِۦ This hādhihi
This
نَاقَةُ (is) a she-camel nāqatu
(is) a she-camel
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
لَكُمْ (it is) for you lakum
(it is) for you
ءَايَةًۭ ۖ a Sign āyatan
a Sign
فَذَرُوهَا So you leave her fadharūhā
So you leave her
تَأْكُلْ (to) eat takul
(to) eat
فِىٓ on
on
أَرْضِ (the) earth arḍi
(the) earth
ٱللَّهِ ۖ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تَمَسُّوهَا touch her tamassūhā
touch her
بِسُوٓءٍۢ with harm bisūin
with harm
فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ lest seizes you fayakhudhakum
lest seizes you
عَذَابٌ a punishment ʿadhābun
a punishment
أَلِيمٌۭ painful alīmun
painful
٧٣ (73)
(73)
And to the Thamūd [We sent] their brother Ṣāliḥ. He said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him. There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord. This is the she-camel of Allāh [sent] to you as a sign. So leave her to eat within Allāh's land and do not touch her with harm, lest there seize you a painful punishment.
7:74
وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟ And remember wa-udh'kurū
And remember
إِذْ when idh
when
جَعَلَكُمْ He made you jaʿalakum
He made you
خُلَفَآءَ successors khulafāa
successors
مِنۢ from min
from
بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after
عَادٍۢ Aad ʿādin
Aad
وَبَوَّأَكُمْ and settled you wabawwa-akum
and settled you
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
تَتَّخِذُونَ You take tattakhidhūna
You take
مِن from min
from
سُهُولِهَا its plains suhūlihā
its plains
قُصُورًۭا palaces quṣūran
palaces
وَتَنْحِتُونَ and you carve out watanḥitūna
and you carve out
ٱلْجِبَالَ the mountains l-jibāla
the mountains
بُيُوتًۭا ۖ (as) homes buyūtan
(as) homes
فَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟ So remember fa-udh'kurū
So remember
ءَالَآءَ (the) Bounties ālāa
(the) Bounties
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تَعْثَوْا۟ act wickedly taʿthaw
act wickedly
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ (the) earth l-arḍi
(the) earth
مُفْسِدِينَ spreading corruption muf'sidīna
spreading corruption
٧٤ (74)
(74)
And remember when He made you successors after the ʿAad and settled you in the land, [and] you take for yourselves palaces from its plains and carve from the mountains, homes. Then remember the favors of Allāh and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption."
7:75
قَالَ Said qāla
Said
ٱلْمَلَأُ the chiefs l-mala-u
the chiefs
ٱلَّذِينَ those alladhīna
those
ٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ (who) were arrogant is'takbarū
(who) were arrogant
مِن among min
among
قَوْمِهِۦ his people qawmihi
his people
لِلَّذِينَ to those who lilladhīna
to those who
ٱسْتُضْعِفُوا۟ were oppressed us'tuḍ'ʿifū
were oppressed
لِمَنْ [to] those who liman
[to] those who
ءَامَنَ believed āmana
believed
مِنْهُمْ among them min'hum
among them
أَتَعْلَمُونَ Do you know ataʿlamūna
Do you know
أَنَّ that anna
that
صَـٰلِحًۭا Salih ṣāliḥan
Salih
مُّرْسَلٌۭ (is the) one sent mur'salun
(is the) one sent
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّهِۦ ۚ his Lord rabbihi
his Lord
قَالُوٓا۟ They said qālū
They said
إِنَّا Indeed, we innā
Indeed, we
بِمَآ in what bimā
in what
أُرْسِلَ he has been sent ur'sila
he has been sent
بِهِۦ with [it] bihi
with [it]
مُؤْمِنُونَ (are) believers mu'minūna
(are) believers
٧٥ (75)
(75)
Said the eminent ones who were arrogant among his people to those who were oppressed - to those who believed among them, "Do you [actually] know that Ṣāliḥ is sent from his Lord?" They said, "Indeed we, in that with which he was sent, are believers."
7:76
قَالَ Said qāla
Said
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟ were arrogant is'takbarū
were arrogant
إِنَّا Indeed we innā
Indeed we
بِٱلَّذِىٓ in that which bi-alladhī
in that which
ءَامَنتُم you believe āmantum
you believe
بِهِۦ in it bihi
in it
كَـٰفِرُونَ (are) disbelievers kāfirūna
(are) disbelievers
٧٦ (76)
(76)
Said those who were arrogant, "Indeed we, in that which you have believed, are disbelievers."
7:77
فَعَقَرُوا۟ Then they hamstrung faʿaqarū
Then they hamstrung
ٱلنَّاقَةَ the she-camel l-nāqata
the she-camel
وَعَتَوْا۟ and (were) insolent waʿataw
and (were) insolent
عَنْ towards ʿan
towards
أَمْرِ (the) command amri
(the) command
رَبِّهِمْ (of) their Lord rabbihim
(of) their Lord
وَقَالُوا۟ and they said waqālū
and they said
يَـٰصَـٰلِحُ O Salih yāṣāliḥu
O Salih
ٱئْتِنَا Bring us i'tinā
Bring us
بِمَا what bimā
what
تَعِدُنَآ you promise us taʿidunā
you promise us
إِن if in
if
كُنتَ you are kunta
you are
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
٧٧ (77)
(77)
So they hamstrung the she-camel and were insolent toward the command of their Lord and said, "O Ṣāliḥ, bring us what you promise us, if you should be of the messengers."
7:78
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ So seized them fa-akhadhathumu
So seized them
ٱلرَّجْفَةُ the earthquake l-rajfatu
the earthquake
فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ then they became fa-aṣbaḥū
then they became
فِى in
in
دَارِهِمْ their homes dārihim
their homes
جَـٰثِمِينَ fallen prone jāthimīna
fallen prone
٧٨ (78)
(78)
So the earthquake seized them, and they became within their home [corpses] fallen prone.
7:79
فَتَوَلَّىٰ So he turned away fatawallā
So he turned away
عَنْهُمْ from them ʿanhum
from them
وَقَالَ and he said waqāla
and he said
يَـٰقَوْمِ O my people yāqawmi
O my people
لَقَدْ Verily laqad
Verily
أَبْلَغْتُكُمْ I have conveyed to you ablaghtukum
I have conveyed to you
رِسَالَةَ (the) Message risālata
(the) Message
رَبِّى (of) my Lord rabbī
(of) my Lord
وَنَصَحْتُ and [I] advised wanaṣaḥtu
and [I] advised
لَكُمْ [to] you lakum
[to] you
وَلَـٰكِن but walākin
but
لَّا not
not
تُحِبُّونَ you like tuḥibbūna
you like
ٱلنَّـٰصِحِينَ the advisers l-nāṣiḥīna
the advisers
٧٩ (79)
(79)
And he [i.e., Ṣāliḥ] turned away from them and said, "O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the message of my Lord and advised you, but you do not like advisors."
7:80
وَلُوطًا And Lut walūṭan
And Lut
إِذْ when idh
when
قَالَ he said qāla
he said
لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ to his people liqawmihi
to his people
أَتَأْتُونَ Do you commit atatūna
Do you commit
ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةَ (such) immorality l-fāḥishata
(such) immorality
مَا not
not
سَبَقَكُم has preceded you sabaqakum
has preceded you
بِهَا therein bihā
therein
مِنْ any min
any
أَحَدٍۢ one aḥadin
one
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ the worlds l-ʿālamīna
the worlds
٨٠ (80)
(80)
And [We had sent] Lot when he said to his people, "Do you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds [i.e., peoples]?
7:81
إِنَّكُمْ Indeed, you innakum
Indeed, you
لَتَأْتُونَ you approach latatūna
you approach
ٱلرِّجَالَ the men l-rijāla
the men
شَهْوَةًۭ lustfully shahwatan
lustfully
مِّن from min
from
دُونِ instead of dūni
instead of
ٱلنِّسَآءِ ۚ the women l-nisāi
the women
بَلْ Nay bal
Nay
أَنتُمْ you antum
you
قَوْمٌۭ (are) a people qawmun
(are) a people
مُّسْرِفُونَ (who) commit excesses mus'rifūna
(who) commit excesses
٨١ (81)
(81)
Indeed, you approach men with desire, instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people."
7:82
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
كَانَ was kāna
was
جَوَابَ (the) answer jawāba
(the) answer
قَوْمِهِۦٓ (of) his people qawmihi
(of) his people
إِلَّآ except illā
except
أَن that an
that
قَالُوٓا۟ they said qālū
they said
أَخْرِجُوهُم Drive them out akhrijūhum
Drive them out
مِّن of min
of
قَرْيَتِكُمْ ۖ your town qaryatikum
your town
إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they innahum
Indeed, they
أُنَاسٌۭ (are) people unāsun
(are) people
يَتَطَهَّرُونَ who keep themselves pure yataṭahharūna
who keep themselves pure
٨٢ (82)
(82)
But the answer of his people was only that they said, "Evict them from your city! Indeed, they are men who keep themselves pure."
7:83
فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُ So We saved him fa-anjaynāhu
So We saved him
وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ and his family wa-ahlahu
and his family
إِلَّا except illā
except
ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ his wife im'ra-atahu
his wife
كَانَتْ she was kānat
she was
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ those who stayed behind l-ghābirīna
those who stayed behind
٨٣ (83)
(83)
So We saved him and his family, except for his wife; she was of those who remained [with the evildoers].
7:84
وَأَمْطَرْنَا And We showered wa-amṭarnā
And We showered
عَلَيْهِم upon them ʿalayhim
upon them
مَّطَرًۭا ۖ a rain maṭaran
a rain
فَٱنظُرْ So see fa-unẓur
So see
كَيْفَ how kayfa
how
كَانَ was kāna
was
عَـٰقِبَةُ (the) end ʿāqibatu
(the) end
ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ (of) the criminals l-muj'rimīna
(of) the criminals
٨٤ (84)
(84)
And We rained upon them a rain [of stones]. Then see how was the end of the criminals.
7:85
وَإِلَىٰ And to wa-ilā
And to
مَدْيَنَ Madyan madyana
Madyan
أَخَاهُمْ his brother akhāhum
his brother
شُعَيْبًۭا ۗ Shuaib shuʿayban
Shuaib
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
يَـٰقَوْمِ O my people yāqawmi
O my people
ٱعْبُدُوا۟ Worship uʿ'budū
Worship
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
مَا not
not
لَكُم for you lakum
for you
مِّنْ any min
any
إِلَـٰهٍ god ilāhin
god
غَيْرُهُۥ ۖ other than Him ghayruhu
other than Him
قَدْ Verily qad
Verily
جَآءَتْكُم has came to you jāatkum
has came to you
بَيِّنَةٌۭ a clear proof bayyinatun
a clear proof
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ your Lord rabbikum
your Lord
فَأَوْفُوا۟ So give full fa-awfū
So give full
ٱلْكَيْلَ [the] measure l-kayla
[the] measure
وَٱلْمِيزَانَ and the weight wal-mīzāna
and the weight
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تَبْخَسُوا۟ deprive tabkhasū
deprive
ٱلنَّاسَ [the] people l-nāsa
[the] people
أَشْيَآءَهُمْ in their things ashyāahum
in their things
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تُفْسِدُوا۟ cause corruption tuf'sidū
cause corruption
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
بَعْدَ after baʿda
after
إِصْلَـٰحِهَا ۚ its reformation iṣ'lāḥihā
its reformation
ذَٰلِكُمْ That dhālikum
That
خَيْرٌۭ (is) better khayrun
(is) better
لَّكُمْ for you lakum
for you
إِن if in
if
كُنتُم you are kuntum
you are
مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers mu'minīna
believers
٨٥ (85)
(85)
And to [the people of] Madyan [We sent] their brother Shuʿayb. He said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him. There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord. So fulfill the measure and weight and do not deprive people of their due and cause not corruption upon the earth after its reformation. That is better for you, if you should be believers.
7:86
وَلَا And (do) not walā
And (do) not
تَقْعُدُوا۟ sit taqʿudū
sit
بِكُلِّ on every bikulli
on every
صِرَٰطٍۢ path ṣirāṭin
path
تُوعِدُونَ threatening tūʿidūna
threatening
وَتَصُدُّونَ and hindering wataṣuddūna
and hindering
عَن from ʿan
from
سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
مَنْ (those) who man
(those) who
ءَامَنَ believe āmana
believe
بِهِۦ in Him bihi
in Him
وَتَبْغُونَهَا and seeking (to make) it watabghūnahā
and seeking (to make) it
عِوَجًۭا ۚ crooked ʿiwajan
crooked
وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟ And remember wa-udh'kurū
And remember
إِذْ when idh
when
كُنتُمْ you were kuntum
you were
قَلِيلًۭا few qalīlan
few
فَكَثَّرَكُمْ ۖ and He increased you fakatharakum
and He increased you
وَٱنظُرُوا۟ And see wa-unẓurū
And see
كَيْفَ how kayfa
how
كَانَ was kāna
was
عَـٰقِبَةُ (the) end ʿāqibatu
(the) end
ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ (of) the corrupters l-muf'sidīna
(of) the corrupters
٨٦ (86)
(86)
And do not sit on every path, threatening and averting from the way of Allāh those who believe in Him, seeking to make it [seem] deviant. And remember when you were few and He increased you. And see how was the end of the corrupters.
7:87
وَإِن And if wa-in
And if
كَانَ (there) is kāna
(there) is
طَآئِفَةٌۭ a group ṭāifatun
a group
مِّنكُمْ among you minkum
among you
ءَامَنُوا۟ (who has) believed āmanū
(who has) believed
بِٱلَّذِىٓ in that which bi-alladhī
in that which
أُرْسِلْتُ I have been sent ur'sil'tu
I have been sent
بِهِۦ with [it] bihi
with [it]
وَطَآئِفَةٌۭ and a group waṭāifatun
and a group
لَّمْ not lam
not
يُؤْمِنُوا۟ they believe yu'minū
they believe
فَٱصْبِرُوا۟ then be patient fa-iṣ'birū
then be patient
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
يَحْكُمَ judges yaḥkuma
judges
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
بَيْنَنَا ۚ between us baynanā
between us
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
خَيْرُ (is the) Best khayru
(is the) Best
ٱلْحَـٰكِمِينَ (of) [the] Judges l-ḥākimīna
(of) [the] Judges
٨٧ (87)
(87)
And if there should be a group among you who has believed in that with which I have been sent and a group that has not believed, then be patient until Allāh judges between us. And He is the best of judges."
7:88
۞ قَالَ Said qāla
Said
ٱلْمَلَأُ the chiefs l-mala-u
the chiefs
ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who alladhīna
(of) those who
ٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ were arrogant is'takbarū
were arrogant
مِن among min
among
قَوْمِهِۦ his people qawmihi
his people
لَنُخْرِجَنَّكَ We will surely drive you out lanukh'rijannaka
We will surely drive you out
يَـٰشُعَيْبُ O Shuaib yāshuʿaybu
O Shuaib
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ (have) believed āmanū
(have) believed
مَعَكَ with you maʿaka
with you
مِن from min
from
قَرْيَتِنَآ our city qaryatinā
our city
أَوْ or aw
or
لَتَعُودُنَّ you must return lataʿūdunna
you must return
فِى to
to
مِلَّتِنَا ۚ our religion millatinā
our religion
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
أَوَلَوْ Even if awalaw
Even if
كُنَّا we are kunnā
we are
كَـٰرِهِينَ (the) ones who hate (it) kārihīna
(the) ones who hate (it)
٨٨ (88)
(88)
Said the eminent ones who were arrogant among his people, "We will surely evict you, O Shuʿayb, and those who have believed with you from our city, or you must return to our religion." He said, "Even if we were unwilling?
7:89
قَدِ Verily qadi
Verily
ٱفْتَرَيْنَا we would have fabricated if'taraynā
we would have fabricated
عَلَى against ʿalā
against
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
كَذِبًا a lie kadhiban
a lie
إِنْ if in
if
عُدْنَا we returned ʿud'nā
we returned
فِى in
in
مِلَّتِكُم your religion millatikum
your religion
بَعْدَ after baʿda
after
إِذْ [when] idh
[when]
نَجَّىٰنَا saved us najjānā
saved us
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
مِنْهَا ۚ from it min'hā
from it
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
يَكُونُ it is yakūnu
it is
لَنَآ for us lanā
for us
أَن that an
that
نَّعُودَ we return naʿūda
we return
فِيهَآ in it fīhā
in it
إِلَّآ except illā
except
أَن that an
that
يَشَآءَ wills yashāa
wills
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
رَبُّنَا ۚ our Lord rabbunā
our Lord
وَسِعَ Encompasses wasiʿa
Encompasses
رَبُّنَا (by) Our Lord rabbunā
(by) Our Lord
كُلَّ every kulla
every
شَىْءٍ thing shayin
thing
عِلْمًا ۚ (in) knowledge ʿil'man
(in) knowledge
عَلَى Upon ʿalā
Upon
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
تَوَكَّلْنَا ۚ we put our trust tawakkalnā
we put our trust
رَبَّنَا Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord
ٱفْتَحْ Decide if'taḥ
Decide
بَيْنَنَا between us baynanā
between us
وَبَيْنَ and between wabayna
and between
قَوْمِنَا our people qawminā
our people
بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth bil-ḥaqi
in truth
وَأَنتَ and You wa-anta
and You
خَيْرُ (are the) Best khayru
(are the) Best
ٱلْفَـٰتِحِينَ (of) those who Decide l-fātiḥīna
(of) those who Decide
٨٩ (89)
(89)
We would have invented against Allāh a lie if we returned to your religion after Allāh had saved us from it. And it is not for us to return to it except that Allāh, our Lord, should will. Our Lord has encompassed all things in knowledge. Upon Allāh we have relied. Our Lord, decide between us and our people in truth, and You are the best of those who give decision."
7:90
وَقَالَ And said waqāla
And said
ٱلْمَلَأُ the chiefs l-mala-u
the chiefs
ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who alladhīna
(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved
مِن among min
among
قَوْمِهِۦ his people qawmihi
his people
لَئِنِ If la-ini
If
ٱتَّبَعْتُمْ you follow ittabaʿtum
you follow
شُعَيْبًا Shuaib shuʿayban
Shuaib
إِنَّكُمْ indeed, you innakum
indeed, you
إِذًۭا then idhan
then
لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ (will be) certainly losers lakhāsirūna
(will be) certainly losers
٩٠ (90)
(90)
Said the eminent ones who disbelieved among his people, "If you should follow Shuʿayb, indeed, you would then be losers."
7:91
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ Then seized them fa-akhadhathumu
Then seized them
ٱلرَّجْفَةُ the earthquake l-rajfatu
the earthquake
فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ then they became fa-aṣbaḥū
then they became
فِى in
in
دَارِهِمْ their home(s) dārihim
their home(s)
جَـٰثِمِينَ fallen prone jāthimīna
fallen prone
٩١ (91)
(91)
So the earthquake seized them, and they became within their home [corpses] fallen prone.
7:92
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who
كَذَّبُوا۟ denied kadhabū
denied
شُعَيْبًۭا Shuaib shuʿayban
Shuaib
كَأَن (became) as if ka-an
(became) as if
لَّمْ not lam
not
يَغْنَوْا۟ they (had) lived yaghnaw
they (had) lived
فِيهَا ۚ therein fīhā
therein
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who
كَذَّبُوا۟ denied kadhabū
denied
شُعَيْبًۭا Shuaib shuʿayban
Shuaib
كَانُوا۟ they were kānū
they were
هُمُ them humu
them
ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ the losers l-khāsirīna
the losers
٩٢ (92)
(92)
Those who denied Shuʿayb - it was as though they had never resided there. Those who denied Shuʿayb - it was they who were the losers.
7:93
فَتَوَلَّىٰ So he turned away fatawallā
So he turned away
عَنْهُمْ from them ʿanhum
from them
وَقَالَ and said waqāla
and said
يَـٰقَوْمِ O my people yāqawmi
O my people
لَقَدْ Verily laqad
Verily
أَبْلَغْتُكُمْ I (have) conveyed to you ablaghtukum
I (have) conveyed to you
رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ (the) Messages risālāti
(the) Messages
رَبِّى (of) my Lord rabbī
(of) my Lord
وَنَصَحْتُ and advised wanaṣaḥtu
and advised
لَكُمْ ۖ [to] you lakum
[to] you
فَكَيْفَ So how could fakayfa
So how could
ءَاسَىٰ I grieve āsā
I grieve
عَلَىٰ for ʿalā
for
قَوْمٍۢ a people qawmin
a people
كَـٰفِرِينَ (who are) disbelievers kāfirīna
(who are) disbelievers
٩٣ (93)
(93)
And he [i.e., Shuʿayb] turned away from them and said, "O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the messages of my Lord and advised you, so how could I grieve for a disbelieving people?"
7:94
وَمَآ And not wamā
And not
أَرْسَلْنَا We sent arsalnā
We sent
فِى in
in
قَرْيَةٍۢ a city qaryatin
a city
مِّن any min
any
نَّبِىٍّ Prophet nabiyyin
Prophet
إِلَّآ except illā
except
أَخَذْنَآ We seized akhadhnā
We seized
أَهْلَهَا its people ahlahā
its people
بِٱلْبَأْسَآءِ with adversity bil-basāi
with adversity
وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ and hardship wal-ḍarāi
and hardship
لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may laʿallahum
so that they may
يَضَّرَّعُونَ (become) humble yaḍḍarraʿūna
(become) humble
٩٤ (94)
(94)
And We sent to no city a prophet [who was denied] except that We seized its people with poverty and hardship that they might humble themselves [to Allāh].
7:95
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
بَدَّلْنَا We changed baddalnā
We changed
مَكَانَ (in) place makāna
(in) place
ٱلسَّيِّئَةِ (of) the bad l-sayi-ati
(of) the bad
ٱلْحَسَنَةَ the good l-ḥasanata
the good
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
عَفَوا۟ they increased ʿafaw
they increased
وَّقَالُوا۟ and said waqālū
and said
قَدْ Verily qad
Verily
مَسَّ (had) touched massa
(had) touched
ءَابَآءَنَا our forefathers ābāanā
our forefathers
ٱلضَّرَّآءُ the adversity l-ḍarāu
the adversity
وَٱلسَّرَّآءُ and the ease wal-sarāu
and the ease
فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُم So We seized them fa-akhadhnāhum
So We seized them
بَغْتَةًۭ suddenly baghtatan
suddenly
وَهُمْ while they wahum
while they
لَا (did) not
(did) not
يَشْعُرُونَ perceive yashʿurūna
perceive
٩٥ (95)
(95)
Then We exchanged in place of the bad [condition], good, until they increased [and prospered] and said, "Our fathers [also] were touched with hardship and ease."1 So We seized them suddenly while they did not perceive.
7:96
وَلَوْ And if walaw
And if
أَنَّ [that] anna
[that]
أَهْلَ people ahla
people
ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ (of) the cities l-qurā
(of) the cities
ءَامَنُوا۟ (had) believed āmanū
(had) believed
وَٱتَّقَوْا۟ and feared Allah wa-ittaqaw
and feared Allah
لَفَتَحْنَا surely We (would have) opened lafataḥnā
surely We (would have) opened
عَلَيْهِم upon them ʿalayhim
upon them
بَرَكَـٰتٍۢ blessings barakātin
blessings
مِّنَ from mina
from
ٱلسَّمَآءِ the heaven l-samāi
the heaven
وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
وَلَـٰكِن but walākin
but
كَذَّبُوا۟ they denied kadhabū
they denied
فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُم So We seized them fa-akhadhnāhum
So We seized them
بِمَا for what bimā
for what
كَانُوا۟ they used to kānū
they used to
يَكْسِبُونَ earn yaksibūna
earn
٩٦ (96)
(96)
And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allāh, We would have opened [i.e., bestowed] upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning.
7:97
أَفَأَمِنَ Then did feel secure afa-amina
Then did feel secure
أَهْلُ (the) people ahlu
(the) people
ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ (of) the cities l-qurā
(of) the cities
أَن that an
that
يَأْتِيَهُم comes to them yatiyahum
comes to them
بَأْسُنَا Our punishment basunā
Our punishment
بَيَـٰتًۭا (at) night bayātan
(at) night
وَهُمْ while they wahum
while they
نَآئِمُونَ (were) asleep nāimūna
(were) asleep
٩٧ (97)
(97)
Then, did the people of the cities feel secure from Our punishment coming to them at night while they were asleep?
7:98
أَوَأَمِنَ Or felt secure awa-amina
Or felt secure
أَهْلُ (the) people ahlu
(the) people
ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ (of) the cities l-qurā
(of) the cities
أَن that an
that
يَأْتِيَهُم comes to them yatiyahum
comes to them
بَأْسُنَا Our punishment basunā
Our punishment
ضُحًۭى (in) daylight ḍuḥan
(in) daylight
وَهُمْ while they wahum
while they
يَلْعَبُونَ (were) playing yalʿabūna
(were) playing
٩٨ (98)
(98)
Or did the people of the cities feel secure from Our punishment coming to them in the morning while they were at play?
7:99
أَفَأَمِنُوا۟ Then did they feel secure afa-aminū
Then did they feel secure
مَكْرَ (from the) plan makra
(from the) plan
ٱللَّهِ ۚ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
فَلَا But not falā
But not
يَأْمَنُ feel secure yamanu
feel secure
مَكْرَ (from the) plan makra
(from the) plan
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
إِلَّا except illā
except
ٱلْقَوْمُ the people l-qawmu
the people
ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ (who are) the losers l-khāsirūna
(who are) the losers
٩٩ (99)
(99)
Then, did they feel secure from the plan of Allāh? But no one feels secure from the plan of Allāh except the losing people.
7:100
أَوَلَمْ Would it not awalam
Would it not
يَهْدِ guide yahdi
guide
لِلَّذِينَ [for] those who lilladhīna
[for] those who
يَرِثُونَ inherit yarithūna
inherit
ٱلْأَرْضَ the land l-arḍa
the land
مِنۢ from min
from
بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after
أَهْلِهَآ its people ahlihā
its people
أَن that an
that
لَّوْ if law
if
نَشَآءُ We willed nashāu
We willed
أَصَبْنَـٰهُم We (could) afflict them aṣabnāhum
We (could) afflict them
بِذُنُوبِهِمْ ۚ for their sins bidhunūbihim
for their sins
وَنَطْبَعُ and We put a seal wanaṭbaʿu
and We put a seal
عَلَىٰ over ʿalā
over
قُلُوبِهِمْ their hearts qulūbihim
their hearts
فَهُمْ so they fahum
so they
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يَسْمَعُونَ hear yasmaʿūna
hear
١٠٠ (100)
(100)
Has it not become clear to those who inherited the earth after its [previous] people that if We willed, We could afflict them for their sins? But We seal over their hearts so they do not hear.
7:101
تِلْكَ These til'ka
These
ٱلْقُرَىٰ (were) the cities l-qurā
(were) the cities
نَقُصُّ We relate naquṣṣu
We relate
عَلَيْكَ to you ʿalayka
to you
مِنْ of min
of
أَنۢبَآئِهَا ۚ their news anbāihā
their news
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad
And certainly
جَآءَتْهُمْ came to them jāathum
came to them
رُسُلُهُم their Messengers rusuluhum
their Messengers
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ with clear proofs bil-bayināti
with clear proofs
فَمَا but not famā
but not
كَانُوا۟ they were kānū
they were
لِيُؤْمِنُوا۟ to believe liyu'minū
to believe
بِمَا in what bimā
in what
كَذَّبُوا۟ they (had) denied kadhabū
they (had) denied
مِن from min
from
قَبْلُ ۚ before qablu
before
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika
Thus
يَطْبَعُ (has been) put a seal yaṭbaʿu
(has been) put a seal
ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah l-lahu
(by) Allah
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
قُلُوبِ (the) hearts qulūbi
(the) hearts
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ (of) the disbelievers l-kāfirīna
(of) the disbelievers
١٠١ (101)
(101)
Those cities - We relate to you, [O Muḥammad], some of their news. And certainly did their messengers come to them with clear proofs, but they were not to believe in that which they had denied before. Thus does Allāh seal over the hearts of the disbelievers.
7:102
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
وَجَدْنَا We found wajadnā
We found
لِأَكْثَرِهِم for most of them li-aktharihim
for most of them
مِّنْ any min
any
عَهْدٍۢ ۖ covenant ʿahdin
covenant
وَإِن But wa-in
But
وَجَدْنَآ We found wajadnā
We found
أَكْثَرَهُمْ most of them aktharahum
most of them
لَفَـٰسِقِينَ certainly, defiantly disobedient lafāsiqīna
certainly, defiantly disobedient
١٠٢ (102)
(102)
And We did not find for most of them any covenant; but indeed, We found most of them defiantly disobedient.
7:103
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
بَعَثْنَا We sent baʿathnā
We sent
مِنۢ from min
from
بَعْدِهِم after them baʿdihim
after them
مُّوسَىٰ Musa mūsā
Musa
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ with Our Signs biāyātinā
with Our Signs
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
فِرْعَوْنَ Firaun fir'ʿawna
Firaun
وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦ and his chiefs wamala-ihi
and his chiefs
فَظَلَمُوا۟ But they were unjust faẓalamū
But they were unjust
بِهَا ۖ to them bihā
to them
فَٱنظُرْ So see fa-unẓur
So see
كَيْفَ how kayfa
how
كَانَ was kāna
was
عَـٰقِبَةُ (the) end ʿāqibatu
(the) end
ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ (of) the corrupters l-muf'sidīna
(of) the corrupters
١٠٣ (103)
(103)
Then We sent after them Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were unjust toward them. So see how was the end of the corrupters.
7:104
وَقَالَ And said waqāla
And said
مُوسَىٰ Musa mūsā
Musa
يَـٰفِرْعَوْنُ O Firaun yāfir'ʿawnu
O Firaun
إِنِّى Indeed, I am innī
Indeed, I am
رَسُولٌۭ a Messenger rasūlun
a Messenger
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّ (the) Lord rabbi
(the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds
١٠٤ (104)
(104)
And Moses said, "O Pharaoh, I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds
7:105
حَقِيقٌ Obligated ḥaqīqun
Obligated
عَلَىٰٓ on ʿalā
on
أَن that an
that
لَّآ not
not
أَقُولَ I say aqūla
I say
عَلَى about ʿalā
about
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
إِلَّا except illā
except
ٱلْحَقَّ ۚ the truth l-ḥaqa
the truth
قَدْ Verily qad
Verily
جِئْتُكُم I (have) come to you ji'tukum
I (have) come to you
بِبَيِّنَةٍۢ with a clear Sign bibayyinatin
with a clear Sign
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّكُمْ your Lord rabbikum
your Lord
فَأَرْسِلْ so send fa-arsil
so send
مَعِىَ with me maʿiya
with me
بَنِىٓ (the) Children banī
(the) Children
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ (of) Israel is'rāīla
(of) Israel
١٠٥ (105)
(105)
[Who is] obligated not to say about Allāh except the truth. I have come to you with clear evidence from your Lord, so send with me the Children of Israel."1
7:106
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
إِن If in
If
كُنتَ you have kunta
you have
جِئْتَ come ji'ta
come
بِـَٔايَةٍۢ with a Sign biāyatin
with a Sign
فَأْتِ then bring fati
then bring
بِهَآ it bihā
it
إِن if in
if
كُنتَ you are kunta
you are
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ the truthful l-ṣādiqīna
the truthful
١٠٦ (106)
(106)
[Pharaoh] said, "If you have come with a sign, then bring it forth, if you should be of the truthful."
7:107
فَأَلْقَىٰ So he threw fa-alqā
So he threw
عَصَاهُ his staff ʿaṣāhu
his staff
فَإِذَا and suddenly fa-idhā
and suddenly
هِىَ it hiya
it
ثُعْبَانٌۭ (was) a serpent thuʿ'bānun
(was) a serpent
مُّبِينٌۭ manifest mubīnun
manifest
١٠٧ (107)
(107)
So he [i.e., Moses] threw his staff, and suddenly it was a serpent, manifest.
7:108
وَنَزَعَ And he drew out wanazaʿa
And he drew out
يَدَهُۥ his hand yadahu
his hand
فَإِذَا and suddenly fa-idhā
and suddenly
هِىَ it hiya
it
بَيْضَآءُ (was) white bayḍāu
(was) white
لِلنَّـٰظِرِينَ for the observers lilnnāẓirīna
for the observers
١٠٨ (108)
(108)
And he drew out his hand; thereupon it was white [with radiance] for the observers.
7:109
قَالَ Said qāla
Said
ٱلْمَلَأُ the chiefs l-mala-u
the chiefs
مِن of min
of
قَوْمِ (the) people qawmi
(the) people
فِرْعَوْنَ (of) Firaun fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this
لَسَـٰحِرٌ (is) surely a magician lasāḥirun
(is) surely a magician
عَلِيمٌۭ learned ʿalīmun
learned
١٠٩ (109)
(109)
Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician
7:110
يُرِيدُ He wants yurīdu
He wants
أَن to an
to
يُخْرِجَكُم drive you out yukh'rijakum
drive you out
مِّنْ from min
from
أَرْضِكُمْ ۖ your land arḍikum
your land
فَمَاذَا so what famādhā
so what
تَأْمُرُونَ (do) you instruct tamurūna
(do) you instruct
١١٠ (110)
(110)
Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?"
7:111
قَالُوٓا۟ They said qālū
They said
أَرْجِهْ Postpone him arjih
Postpone him
وَأَخَاهُ and his brother wa-akhāhu
and his brother
وَأَرْسِلْ and send wa-arsil
and send
فِى in
in
ٱلْمَدَآئِنِ the cities l-madāini
the cities
حَـٰشِرِينَ gatherers ḥāshirīna
gatherers
١١١ (111)
(111)
They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers
7:112
يَأْتُوكَ They (will) bring to you yatūka
They (will) bring to you
بِكُلِّ [with] every bikulli
[with] every
سَـٰحِرٍ magician sāḥirin
magician
عَلِيمٍۢ learned ʿalīmin
learned
١١٢ (112)
(112)
Who will bring you every learned magician."
7:113
وَجَآءَ So came wajāa
So came
ٱلسَّحَرَةُ the magicians l-saḥaratu
the magicians
فِرْعَوْنَ (to) Firaun fir'ʿawna
(to) Firaun
قَالُوٓا۟ They said qālū
They said
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
لَنَا for us lanā
for us
لَأَجْرًا surely (will be) a reward la-ajran
surely (will be) a reward
إِن if in
if
كُنَّا we are kunnā
we are
نَحْنُ [we] naḥnu
[we]
ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ the victors l-ghālibīna
the victors
١١٣ (113)
(113)
And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us is a reward if we are the predominant."
7:114
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
نَعَمْ Yes naʿam
Yes
وَإِنَّكُمْ and indeed you wa-innakum
and indeed you
لَمِنَ surely (will be) of lamina
surely (will be) of
ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ the ones who are near l-muqarabīna
the ones who are near
١١٤ (114)
(114)
He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]."
7:115
قَالُوا۟ They said qālū
They said
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ O Musa yāmūsā
O Musa
إِمَّآ Whether immā
Whether
أَن [that] an
[that]
تُلْقِىَ you throw tul'qiya
you throw
وَإِمَّآ or Whether wa-immā
or Whether
أَن [that] an
[that]
نَّكُونَ we will be nakūna
we will be
نَحْنُ [we] naḥnu
[we]
ٱلْمُلْقِينَ the ones to throw l-mul'qīna
the ones to throw
١١٥ (115)
(115)
They said, "O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first]."
7:116
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
أَلْقُوا۟ ۖ Throw alqū
Throw
فَلَمَّآ Then when falammā
Then when
أَلْقَوْا۟ they threw alqaw
they threw
سَحَرُوٓا۟ they bewitched saḥarū
they bewitched
أَعْيُنَ (the) eyes aʿyuna
(the) eyes
ٱلنَّاسِ (of) the people l-nāsi
(of) the people
وَٱسْتَرْهَبُوهُمْ and terrified them wa-is'tarhabūhum
and terrified them
وَجَآءُو and came (up) wajāū
and came (up)
بِسِحْرٍ with a magic bisiḥ'rin
with a magic
عَظِيمٍۢ great ʿaẓīmin
great
١١٦ (116)
(116)
He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic.
7:117
۞ وَأَوْحَيْنَآ And We inspired wa-awḥaynā
And We inspired
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
مُوسَىٰٓ Musa mūsā
Musa
أَنْ that an
that
أَلْقِ Throw alqi
Throw
عَصَاكَ ۖ your staff ʿaṣāka
your staff
فَإِذَا and suddenly fa-idhā
and suddenly
هِىَ it hiya
it
تَلْقَفُ swallow(ed) talqafu
swallow(ed)
مَا what
what
يَأْفِكُونَ they (were) falsifying yafikūna
they (were) falsifying
١١٧ (117)
(117)
And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying.
7:118
فَوَقَعَ So was established fawaqaʿa
So was established
ٱلْحَقُّ the truth l-ḥaqu
the truth
وَبَطَلَ and became futile wabaṭala
and became futile
مَا what
what
كَانُوا۟ they used to kānū
they used to
يَعْمَلُونَ do yaʿmalūna
do
١١٨ (118)
(118)
So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing.
7:119
فَغُلِبُوا۟ So they were defeated faghulibū
So they were defeated
هُنَالِكَ there hunālika
there
وَٱنقَلَبُوا۟ and returned wa-inqalabū
and returned
صَـٰغِرِينَ humiliated ṣāghirīna
humiliated
١١٩ (119)
(119)
And they [i.e., Pharaoh and his people] were overcome right there and became debased.
7:120
وَأُلْقِىَ And fell down wa-ul'qiya
And fell down
ٱلسَّحَرَةُ the magicians l-saḥaratu
the magicians
سَـٰجِدِينَ prostrate sājidīna
prostrate
١٢٠ (120)
(120)
And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allāh].
7:121
قَالُوٓا۟ They said qālū
They said
ءَامَنَّا We believe āmannā
We believe
بِرَبِّ in (the) Lord birabbi
in (the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds
١٢١ (121)
(121)
They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds,
7:122
رَبِّ Lord rabbi
Lord
مُوسَىٰ (of) Musa mūsā
(of) Musa
وَهَـٰرُونَ and Harun wahārūna
and Harun
١٢٢ (122)
(122)
The Lord of Moses and Aaron."
7:123
قَالَ Said qāla
Said
فِرْعَوْنُ Firaun fir'ʿawnu
Firaun
ءَامَنتُم You believed āmantum
You believed
بِهِۦ in him bihi
in him
قَبْلَ before qabla
before
أَنْ [that] an
[that]
ءَاذَنَ I give permission ādhana
I give permission
لَكُمْ ۖ to you lakum
to you
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this
لَمَكْرٌۭ (is) surely a plot lamakrun
(is) surely a plot
مَّكَرْتُمُوهُ you have plotted it makartumūhu
you have plotted it
فِى in
in
ٱلْمَدِينَةِ the city l-madīnati
the city
لِتُخْرِجُوا۟ so that you may drive out litukh'rijū
so that you may drive out
مِنْهَآ from it min'hā
from it
أَهْلَهَا ۖ its people ahlahā
its people
فَسَوْفَ But soon fasawfa
But soon
تَعْلَمُونَ you will know taʿlamūna
you will know
١٢٣ (123)
(123)
Said Pharaoh, "You believed in him before I gave you permission. Indeed, this is a conspiracy which you conspired in the city to expel therefrom its people. But you are going to know.
7:124
لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ I will surely cut off la-uqaṭṭiʿanna
I will surely cut off
أَيْدِيَكُمْ your hands aydiyakum
your hands
وَأَرْجُلَكُم and your feet wa-arjulakum
and your feet
مِّنْ of min
of
خِلَـٰفٍۢ opposite (sides) khilāfin
opposite (sides)
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
لَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ I will surely crucify you la-uṣallibannakum
I will surely crucify you
أَجْمَعِينَ all ajmaʿīna
all
١٢٤ (124)
(124)
I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all."
7:125
قَالُوٓا۟ They said qālū
They said
إِنَّآ Indeed, we innā
Indeed, we
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
رَبِّنَا our Lord rabbinā
our Lord
مُنقَلِبُونَ (will) return munqalibūna
(will) return
١٢٥ (125)
(125)
They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return.
7:126
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
تَنقِمُ you take revenge tanqimu
you take revenge
مِنَّآ from us minnā
from us
إِلَّآ except illā
except
أَنْ that an
that
ءَامَنَّا we believed āmannā
we believed
بِـَٔايَـٰتِ in (the) Signs biāyāti
in (the) Signs
رَبِّنَا (of) our Lord rabbinā
(of) our Lord
لَمَّا when lammā
when
جَآءَتْنَا ۚ they came to us jāatnā
they came to us
رَبَّنَآ Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord
أَفْرِغْ Pour afrigh
Pour
عَلَيْنَا upon us ʿalaynā
upon us
صَبْرًۭا patience ṣabran
patience
وَتَوَفَّنَا and cause us to die watawaffanā
and cause us to die
مُسْلِمِينَ (as) Muslims mus'limīna
(as) Muslims
١٢٦ (126)
(126)
And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]."
7:127
وَقَالَ And said waqāla
And said
ٱلْمَلَأُ the chiefs l-mala-u
the chiefs
مِن of min
of
قَوْمِ (the) people qawmi
(the) people
فِرْعَوْنَ (of) Firaun fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
أَتَذَرُ Will you leave atadharu
Will you leave
مُوسَىٰ Musa mūsā
Musa
وَقَوْمَهُۥ and his people waqawmahu
and his people
لِيُفْسِدُوا۟ so that they cause corruption liyuf'sidū
so that they cause corruption
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
وَيَذَرَكَ and forsake you wayadharaka
and forsake you
وَءَالِهَتَكَ ۚ and your gods waālihataka
and your gods
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
سَنُقَتِّلُ We will kill sanuqattilu
We will kill
أَبْنَآءَهُمْ their sons abnāahum
their sons
وَنَسْتَحْىِۦ and we will let live wanastaḥyī
and we will let live
نِسَآءَهُمْ their women nisāahum
their women
وَإِنَّا and indeed, we wa-innā
and indeed, we
فَوْقَهُمْ over them fawqahum
over them
قَـٰهِرُونَ (are) subjugators qāhirūna
(are) subjugators
١٢٧ (127)
(127)
And the eminent among the people of Pharaoh said, "Will you leave Moses and his people to cause corruption in the land and abandon you and your gods?" [Pharaoh] said, "We will kill their sons and keep their women alive; and indeed, we are subjugators over them."
7:128
قَالَ Said qāla
Said
مُوسَىٰ Musa mūsā
Musa
لِقَوْمِهِ to his people liqawmihi
to his people
ٱسْتَعِينُوا۟ Seek help is'taʿīnū
Seek help
بِٱللَّهِ from Allah bil-lahi
from Allah
وَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟ ۖ and be patient wa-iṣ'birū
and be patient
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلْأَرْضَ the earth l-arḍa
the earth
لِلَّهِ (belongs) to Allah lillahi
(belongs) to Allah
يُورِثُهَا He causes to inherit it yūrithuhā
He causes to inherit it
مَن whom man
whom
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
مِنْ of min
of
عِبَادِهِۦ ۖ His servants ʿibādihi
His servants
وَٱلْعَـٰقِبَةُ And the end wal-ʿāqibatu
And the end
لِلْمُتَّقِينَ (is) for the righteous lil'muttaqīna
(is) for the righteous
١٢٨ (128)
(128)
Said Moses to his people, "Seek help through Allāh and be patient. Indeed, the earth belongs to Allāh. He causes to inherit it whom He wills of His servants. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous."
7:129
قَالُوٓا۟ They said qālū
They said
أُوذِينَا We have been harmed ūdhīnā
We have been harmed
مِن from min
from
قَبْلِ before qabli
before
أَن [that] an
[that]
تَأْتِيَنَا you came to us tatiyanā
you came to us
وَمِنۢ from wamin
from
بَعْدِ and after baʿdi
and after
مَا [what]
[what]
جِئْتَنَا ۚ you have come to us ji'tanā
you have come to us
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
عَسَىٰ Perhaps ʿasā
Perhaps
رَبُّكُمْ your Lord rabbukum
your Lord
أَن [that] an
[that]
يُهْلِكَ will destroy yuh'lika
will destroy
عَدُوَّكُمْ your enemy ʿaduwwakum
your enemy
وَيَسْتَخْلِفَكُمْ and make you successors wayastakhlifakum
and make you successors
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
فَيَنظُرَ then see fayanẓura
then see
كَيْفَ how kayfa
how
تَعْمَلُونَ you will do taʿmalūna
you will do
١٢٩ (129)
(129)
They said, "We have been harmed before you came to us and after you have come to us." He said, "Perhaps your Lord will destroy your enemy and grant you succession in the land and see how you will do."
7:130
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad
And certainly
أَخَذْنَآ We seized akhadhnā
We seized
ءَالَ (the) people āla
(the) people
فِرْعَوْنَ (of) Firaun fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
بِٱلسِّنِينَ with years (of famine) bil-sinīna
with years (of famine)
وَنَقْصٍۢ and a deficit wanaqṣin
and a deficit
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ [the] fruits l-thamarāti
[the] fruits
لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may laʿallahum
so that they may
يَذَّكَّرُونَ receive admonition yadhakkarūna
receive admonition
١٣٠ (130)
(130)
And We certainly seized the people of Pharaoh with years of famine and a deficiency in fruits that perhaps they would be reminded.
7:131
فَإِذَا But when fa-idhā
But when
جَآءَتْهُمُ came to them jāathumu
came to them
ٱلْحَسَنَةُ the good l-ḥasanatu
the good
قَالُوا۟ they said qālū
they said
لَنَا For us lanā
For us
هَـٰذِهِۦ ۖ (is) this hādhihi
(is) this
وَإِن And if wa-in
And if
تُصِبْهُمْ afflicts them tuṣib'hum
afflicts them
سَيِّئَةٌۭ bad sayyi-atun
bad
يَطَّيَّرُوا۟ they ascribe evil omens yaṭṭayyarū
they ascribe evil omens
بِمُوسَىٰ to Musa bimūsā
to Musa
وَمَن and who waman
and who
مَّعَهُۥٓ ۗ (were) with him maʿahu
(were) with him
أَلَآ Behold alā
Behold
إِنَّمَا Only innamā
Only
طَـٰٓئِرُهُمْ their evil omens ṭāiruhum
their evil omens
عِندَ (are) with ʿinda
(are) with
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
وَلَـٰكِنَّ but walākinna
but
أَكْثَرَهُمْ most of them aktharahum
most of them
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَ know yaʿlamūna
know
١٣١ (131)
(131)
But when good [i.e., provision] came to them, they said, "This is ours [by right]." And if a bad [condition] struck them, they saw an evil omen in Moses and those with him. Unquestionably, their fortune is with Allāh, but most of them do not know.
7:132
وَقَالُوا۟ And they said waqālū
And they said
مَهْمَا Whatever mahmā
Whatever
تَأْتِنَا you bring us tatinā
you bring us
بِهِۦ therewith bihi
therewith
مِنْ of min
of
ءَايَةٍۢ (the) sign āyatin
(the) sign
لِّتَسْحَرَنَا so that you bewitch us litasḥaranā
so that you bewitch us
بِهَا with it bihā
with it
فَمَا then not famā
then not
نَحْنُ we naḥnu
we
لَكَ (will be) in you laka
(will be) in you
بِمُؤْمِنِينَ believers bimu'minīna
believers
١٣٢ (132)
(132)
And they said, "No matter what sign you bring us with which to bewitch us, we will not be believers in you."
7:133
فَأَرْسَلْنَا So We sent fa-arsalnā
So We sent
عَلَيْهِمُ on them ʿalayhimu
on them
ٱلطُّوفَانَ the flood l-ṭūfāna
the flood
وَٱلْجَرَادَ and the locusts wal-jarāda
and the locusts
وَٱلْقُمَّلَ and the lice wal-qumala
and the lice
وَٱلضَّفَادِعَ and the frogs wal-ḍafādiʿa
and the frogs
وَٱلدَّمَ and the blood wal-dama
and the blood
ءَايَـٰتٍۢ (as) signs āyātin
(as) signs
مُّفَصَّلَـٰتٍۢ manifest mufaṣṣalātin
manifest
فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ but they showed arrogance fa-is'takbarū
but they showed arrogance
وَكَانُوا۟ and they were wakānū
and they were
قَوْمًۭا a people qawman
a people
مُّجْرِمِينَ criminal muj'rimīna
criminal
١٣٣ (133)
(133)
So We sent upon them the flood and locusts and lice and frogs and blood as distinct signs, but they were arrogant and were a criminal people.
7:134
وَلَمَّا And when walammā
And when
وَقَعَ fell waqaʿa
fell
عَلَيْهِمُ on them ʿalayhimu
on them
ٱلرِّجْزُ the punishment l-rij'zu
the punishment
قَالُوا۟ they said qālū
they said
يَـٰمُوسَى O Musa yāmūsā
O Musa
ٱدْعُ Invoke ud'ʿu
Invoke
لَنَا for us lanā
for us
رَبَّكَ your Lord rabbaka
your Lord
بِمَا by what bimā
by what
عَهِدَ He has promised ʿahida
He has promised
عِندَكَ ۖ to you ʿindaka
to you
لَئِن If la-in
If
كَشَفْتَ you remove kashafta
you remove
عَنَّا from us ʿannā
from us
ٱلرِّجْزَ the punishment l-rij'za
the punishment
لَنُؤْمِنَنَّ surely, we will believe lanu'minanna
surely, we will believe
لَكَ [for] you laka
[for] you
وَلَنُرْسِلَنَّ and surely, we will send walanur'silanna
and surely, we will send
مَعَكَ with you maʿaka
with you
بَنِىٓ (the) Children banī
(the) Children
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ (of) Israel is'rāīla
(of) Israel
١٣٤ (134)
(134)
And when the punishment descended upon them, they said, "O Moses, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. If you [can] remove the punishment from us, we will surely believe you, and we will send with you the Children of Israel."
7:135
فَلَمَّا But when falammā
But when
كَشَفْنَا We removed kashafnā
We removed
عَنْهُمُ from them ʿanhumu
from them
ٱلرِّجْزَ the punishment l-rij'za
the punishment
إِلَىٰٓ till ilā
till
أَجَلٍ a (fixed) term ajalin
a (fixed) term
هُم (which) they hum
(which) they
بَـٰلِغُوهُ were to reach [it] bālighūhu
were to reach [it]
إِذَا then idhā
then
هُمْ they hum
they
يَنكُثُونَ broke (the word) yankuthūna
broke (the word)
١٣٥ (135)
(135)
But when We removed the punishment from them until a term which they were to reach, then at once they broke their word.
7:136
فَٱنتَقَمْنَا So We took retribution fa-intaqamnā
So We took retribution
مِنْهُمْ from them min'hum
from them
فَأَغْرَقْنَـٰهُمْ and We drowned them fa-aghraqnāhum
and We drowned them
فِى in
in
ٱلْيَمِّ the sea l-yami
the sea
بِأَنَّهُمْ because they bi-annahum
because they
كَذَّبُوا۟ denied kadhabū
denied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا Our Signs biāyātinā
Our Signs
وَكَانُوا۟ and they were wakānū
and they were
عَنْهَا to them ʿanhā
to them
غَـٰفِلِينَ heedless ghāfilīna
heedless
١٣٦ (136)
(136)
So We took retribution from them, and We drowned them in the sea because they denied Our signs and were heedless of them.
7:137
وَأَوْرَثْنَا And We made inheritors wa-awrathnā
And We made inheritors
ٱلْقَوْمَ the people l-qawma
the people
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَانُوا۟ were kānū
were
يُسْتَضْعَفُونَ considered weak yus'taḍʿafūna
considered weak
مَشَـٰرِقَ (the) eastern (parts) mashāriqa
(the) eastern (parts)
ٱلْأَرْضِ (of) the land l-arḍi
(of) the land
وَمَغَـٰرِبَهَا and the western (parts) of it wamaghāribahā
and the western (parts) of it
ٱلَّتِى which allatī
which
بَـٰرَكْنَا We blessed bāraknā
We blessed
فِيهَا ۖ [in it] fīhā
[in it]
وَتَمَّتْ And was fulfilled watammat
And was fulfilled
كَلِمَتُ (the) word kalimatu
(the) word
رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord rabbika
(of) your Lord
ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ the best l-ḥus'nā
the best
عَلَىٰ for ʿalā
for
بَنِىٓ (the) Children banī
(the) Children
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ (of) Israel is'rāīla
(of) Israel
بِمَا because bimā
because
صَبَرُوا۟ ۖ they were patient ṣabarū
they were patient
وَدَمَّرْنَا And We destroyed wadammarnā
And We destroyed
مَا what
what
كَانَ used to kāna
used to
يَصْنَعُ make yaṣnaʿu
make
فِرْعَوْنُ Firaun fir'ʿawnu
Firaun
وَقَوْمُهُۥ and his people waqawmuhu
and his people
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
كَانُوا۟ they used to kānū
they used to
يَعْرِشُونَ erect yaʿrishūna
erect
١٣٧ (137)
(137)
And We caused the people who had been oppressed to inherit the eastern regions of the land and the western ones, which We had blessed. And the good word [i.e., decree] of your Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel because of what they had patiently endured. And We destroyed [all] that Pharaoh and his people were producing and what they had been building.
7:138
وَجَـٰوَزْنَا And We led across wajāwaznā
And We led across
بِبَنِىٓ (the) Children bibanī
(the) Children
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ (of) Israel is'rāīla
(of) Israel
ٱلْبَحْرَ the sea l-baḥra
the sea
فَأَتَوْا۟ Then they came fa-ataw
Then they came
عَلَىٰ upon ʿalā
upon
قَوْمٍۢ a people qawmin
a people
يَعْكُفُونَ devoted yaʿkufūna
devoted
عَلَىٰٓ to ʿalā
to
أَصْنَامٍۢ idols aṣnāmin
idols
لَّهُمْ ۚ of theirs lahum
of theirs
قَالُوا۟ They said qālū
They said
يَـٰمُوسَى O Musa yāmūsā
O Musa
ٱجْعَل Make ij'ʿal
Make
لَّنَآ for us lanā
for us
إِلَـٰهًۭا a god ilāhan
a god
كَمَا like what kamā
like what
لَهُمْ they have lahum
they have
ءَالِهَةٌۭ ۚ gods ālihatun
gods
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
إِنَّكُمْ Indeed, you innakum
Indeed, you
قَوْمٌۭ (are) a people qawmun
(are) a people
تَجْهَلُونَ ignorant tajhalūna
ignorant
١٣٨ (138)
(138)
And We took the Children of Israel across the sea; then they came upon a people intent in devotion to [some] idols of theirs. They [the Children of Israel] said, "O Moses, make for us a god just as they have gods." He said, "Indeed, you are a people behaving ignorantly.
7:139
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ these hāulāi
these
مُتَبَّرٌۭ destroyed mutabbarun
destroyed
مَّا (is) what
(is) what
هُمْ they hum
they
فِيهِ (are) in it fīhi
(are) in it
وَبَـٰطِلٌۭ and vain wabāṭilun
and vain
مَّا (is) what
(is) what
كَانُوا۟ they used to kānū
they used to
يَعْمَلُونَ do yaʿmalūna
do
١٣٩ (139)
(139)
Indeed, those [worshippers] - destroyed is that in which they are [engaged], and worthless is whatever they were doing."
7:140
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
أَغَيْرَ Should other than aghayra
Should other than
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
أَبْغِيكُمْ I seek for you abghīkum
I seek for you
إِلَـٰهًۭا a god ilāhan
a god
وَهُوَ while He wahuwa
while He
فَضَّلَكُمْ has preferred you faḍḍalakum
has preferred you
عَلَى over ʿalā
over
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ the worlds l-ʿālamīna
the worlds
١٤٠ (140)
(140)
He said, "Is it other than Allāh I should desire for you as a god while He has preferred you over the worlds?"
7:141
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when
أَنجَيْنَـٰكُم We saved you anjaynākum
We saved you
مِّنْ from min
from
ءَالِ (the) people āli
(the) people
فِرْعَوْنَ (of) Firaun fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
يَسُومُونَكُمْ who were afflicting you yasūmūnakum
who were afflicting you
سُوٓءَ (with) worst sūa
(with) worst
ٱلْعَذَابِ ۖ (of) torment l-ʿadhābi
(of) torment
يُقَتِّلُونَ they were killing yuqattilūna
they were killing
أَبْنَآءَكُمْ your sons abnāakum
your sons
وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ and letting live wayastaḥyūna
and letting live
نِسَآءَكُمْ ۚ your women nisāakum
your women
وَفِى And in wafī
And in
ذَٰلِكُم that dhālikum
that
بَلَآءٌۭ (was) a trial balāon
(was) a trial
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّكُمْ your Lord rabbikum
your Lord
عَظِيمٌۭ great ʿaẓīmun
great
١٤١ (141)
(141)
And [recall, O Children of Israel], when We saved you from the people of Pharaoh, [who were] afflicting you with the worst torment - killing your sons and keeping your women alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord.
7:142
۞ وَوَٰعَدْنَا And We appointed wawāʿadnā
And We appointed
مُوسَىٰ (for) Musa mūsā
(for) Musa
ثَلَـٰثِينَ thirty thalāthīna
thirty
لَيْلَةًۭ nights laylatan
nights
وَأَتْمَمْنَـٰهَا and We completed them wa-atmamnāhā
and We completed them
بِعَشْرٍۢ with ten (more) biʿashrin
with ten (more)
فَتَمَّ so was completed fatamma
so was completed
مِيقَـٰتُ (the) set term mīqātu
(the) set term
رَبِّهِۦٓ (of) his Lord rabbihi
(of) his Lord
أَرْبَعِينَ (of) forty arbaʿīna
(of) forty
لَيْلَةًۭ ۚ night(s) laylatan
night(s)
وَقَالَ And said waqāla
And said
مُوسَىٰ Musa mūsā
Musa
لِأَخِيهِ to his brother li-akhīhi
to his brother
هَـٰرُونَ Harun hārūna
Harun
ٱخْلُفْنِى Take my place ukh'luf'nī
Take my place
فِى in
in
قَوْمِى my people qawmī
my people
وَأَصْلِحْ and do right wa-aṣliḥ
and do right
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تَتَّبِعْ follow tattabiʿ
follow
سَبِيلَ (the) way sabīla
(the) way
ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ (of) the corrupters l-muf'sidīna
(of) the corrupters
١٤٢ (142)
(142)
And We made an appointment with Moses for thirty nights and perfected them by [the addition of] ten; so the term of his Lord was completed as forty nights. And Moses said to his brother Aaron, "Take my place among my people, do right [by them], and do not follow the way of the corrupters."
7:143
وَلَمَّا And when walammā
And when
جَآءَ came jāa
came
مُوسَىٰ Musa mūsā
Musa
لِمِيقَـٰتِنَا to Our appointed place limīqātinā
to Our appointed place
وَكَلَّمَهُۥ and spoke to him wakallamahu
and spoke to him
رَبُّهُۥ his Lord rabbuhu
his Lord
قَالَ he said qāla
he said
رَبِّ O my Lord rabbi
O my Lord
أَرِنِىٓ Show me arinī
Show me
أَنظُرْ (that) I may look anẓur
(that) I may look
إِلَيْكَ ۚ at You ilayka
at You
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
لَن Never lan
Never
تَرَىٰنِى you (can) see Me tarānī
you (can) see Me
وَلَـٰكِنِ but walākini
but
ٱنظُرْ look unẓur
look
إِلَى at ilā
at
ٱلْجَبَلِ the mountain l-jabali
the mountain
فَإِنِ [then] if fa-ini
[then] if
ٱسْتَقَرَّ it remains is'taqarra
it remains
مَكَانَهُۥ in its place makānahu
in its place
فَسَوْفَ then fasawfa
then
تَرَىٰنِى ۚ you (will) see Me tarānī
you (will) see Me
فَلَمَّا But when falammā
But when
تَجَلَّىٰ revealed (His) Glory tajallā
revealed (His) Glory
رَبُّهُۥ his Lord rabbuhu
his Lord
لِلْجَبَلِ to the mountain lil'jabali
to the mountain
جَعَلَهُۥ He made it jaʿalahu
He made it
دَكًّۭا crumbled to dust dakkan
crumbled to dust
وَخَرَّ and fell down wakharra
and fell down
مُوسَىٰ Musa mūsā
Musa
صَعِقًۭا ۚ unconscious ṣaʿiqan
unconscious
فَلَمَّآ And when falammā
And when
أَفَاقَ he recovered afāqa
he recovered
قَالَ he said qāla
he said
سُبْحَـٰنَكَ Glory be to You sub'ḥānaka
Glory be to You
تُبْتُ I turn (in repentance) tub'tu
I turn (in repentance)
إِلَيْكَ to you ilayka
to you
وَأَنَا۠ and I am wa-anā
and I am
أَوَّلُ (the) first awwalu
(the) first
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ (of) the believers l-mu'minīna
(of) the believers
١٤٣ (143)
(143)
And when Moses arrived at Our appointed time and his Lord spoke to him, he said, "My Lord, show me [Yourself] that I may look at You." [Allāh] said, "You will not see Me, but look at the mountain; if it should remain in place, then you will see Me." But when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He rendered it level, and Moses fell unconscious. And when he awoke, he said, "Exalted are You! I have repented to You, and I am the first [among my people] of the believers."3
7:144
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ O Musa yāmūsā
O Musa
إِنِّى Indeed, I innī
Indeed, I
ٱصْطَفَيْتُكَ have chosen you iṣ'ṭafaytuka
have chosen you
عَلَى over ʿalā
over
ٱلنَّاسِ the people l-nāsi
the people
بِرِسَـٰلَـٰتِى with My Messages birisālātī
with My Messages
وَبِكَلَـٰمِى and with My words wabikalāmī
and with My words
فَخُذْ So take fakhudh
So take
مَآ what
what
ءَاتَيْتُكَ I have given you ātaytuka
I have given you
وَكُن and be wakun
and be
مِّنَ among mina
among
ٱلشَّـٰكِرِينَ the grateful l-shākirīna
the grateful
١٤٤ (144)
(144)
[Allāh] said, "O Moses, I have chosen you over the people with My messages and My words [to you]. So take what I have given you and be among the grateful."
7:145
وَكَتَبْنَا And We ordained (laws) wakatabnā
And We ordained (laws)
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَلْوَاحِ the tablets l-alwāḥi
the tablets
مِن of min
of
كُلِّ every kulli
every
شَىْءٍۢ thing shayin
thing
مَّوْعِظَةًۭ an instruction mawʿiẓatan
an instruction
وَتَفْصِيلًۭا and explanation watafṣīlan
and explanation
لِّكُلِّ for every likulli
for every
شَىْءٍۢ thing shayin
thing
فَخُذْهَا So take them fakhudh'hā
So take them
بِقُوَّةٍۢ with firmness biquwwatin
with firmness
وَأْمُرْ and order wamur
and order
قَوْمَكَ your people qawmaka
your people
يَأْخُذُوا۟ (to) take yakhudhū
(to) take
بِأَحْسَنِهَا ۚ (the) best of it bi-aḥsanihā
(the) best of it
سَأُو۟رِيكُمْ I will show you sa-urīkum
I will show you
دَارَ (the) home dāra
(the) home
ٱلْفَـٰسِقِينَ (of) the defiantly disobedient l-fāsiqīna
(of) the defiantly disobedient
١٤٥ (145)
(145)
And We wrote for him on the tablets [something] of all things - instruction and explanation for all things, [saying], "Take them with determination and order your people to take the best of it. I will show you the home of the defiantly disobedient."1
7:146
سَأَصْرِفُ I will turn away sa-aṣrifu
I will turn away
عَنْ from ʿan
from
ءَايَـٰتِىَ My Signs āyātiya
My Signs
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
يَتَكَبَّرُونَ are arrogant yatakabbarūna
are arrogant
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
بِغَيْرِ without bighayri
without
ٱلْحَقِّ [the] right l-ḥaqi
[the] right
وَإِن and if wa-in
and if
يَرَوْا۟ they see yaraw
they see
كُلَّ every kulla
every
ءَايَةٍۢ sign āyatin
sign
لَّا not
not
يُؤْمِنُوا۟ (will) they believe yu'minū
(will) they believe
بِهَا in it bihā
in it
وَإِن And if wa-in
And if
يَرَوْا۟ they see yaraw
they see
سَبِيلَ (the) way sabīla
(the) way
ٱلرُّشْدِ (of) the righteousness l-rush'di
(of) the righteousness
لَا not
not
يَتَّخِذُوهُ (will) they take it yattakhidhūhu
(will) they take it
سَبِيلًۭا (as) a way sabīlan
(as) a way
وَإِن but if wa-in
but if
يَرَوْا۟ they see yaraw
they see
سَبِيلَ (the) way sabīla
(the) way
ٱلْغَىِّ (of) [the] error l-ghayi
(of) [the] error
يَتَّخِذُوهُ they will take it yattakhidhūhu
they will take it
سَبِيلًۭا ۚ (as) a way sabīlan
(as) a way
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
بِأَنَّهُمْ (is) because they bi-annahum
(is) because they
كَذَّبُوا۟ denied kadhabū
denied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا Our Signs biāyātinā
Our Signs
وَكَانُوا۟ and they were wakānū
and they were
عَنْهَا of them ʿanhā
of them
غَـٰفِلِينَ heedless ghāfilīna
heedless
١٤٦ (146)
(146)
I will turn away from My signs those who are arrogant upon the earth without right; and if they should see every sign, they will not believe in it. And if they see the way of consciousness, they will not adopt it as a way; but if they see the way of error, they will adopt it as a way. That is because they have denied Our signs and they were heedless of them.
7:147
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
كَذَّبُوا۟ denied kadhabū
denied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا Our Signs biāyātinā
Our Signs
وَلِقَآءِ and (the) meeting waliqāi
and (the) meeting
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ (of) the Hereafter l-ākhirati
(of) the Hereafter
حَبِطَتْ worthless ḥabiṭat
worthless
أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ ۚ (are) their deeds aʿmāluhum
(are) their deeds
هَلْ Will hal
Will
يُجْزَوْنَ they be recompensed yuj'zawna
they be recompensed
إِلَّا except illā
except
مَا (for) what
(for) what
كَانُوا۟ they used to kānū
they used to
يَعْمَلُونَ do yaʿmalūna
do
١٤٧ (147)
(147)
Those who denied Our signs and the meeting of the Hereafter - their deeds have become worthless. Are they recompensed except for what they used to do?
7:148
وَٱتَّخَذَ And took wa-ittakhadha
And took
قَوْمُ (the) people qawmu
(the) people
مُوسَىٰ (of) Musa mūsā
(of) Musa
مِنۢ from min
from
بَعْدِهِۦ after him baʿdihi
after him
مِنْ from min
from
حُلِيِّهِمْ their ornaments ḥuliyyihim
their ornaments
عِجْلًۭا a calf ʿij'lan
a calf
جَسَدًۭا an image jasadan
an image
لَّهُۥ [for] it lahu
[for] it
خُوَارٌ ۚ (had) a lowing sound khuwārun
(had) a lowing sound
أَلَمْ Did not alam
Did not
يَرَوْا۟ they see yaraw
they see
أَنَّهُۥ that it annahu
that it
لَا (could) not
(could) not
يُكَلِّمُهُمْ speak to them yukallimuhum
speak to them
وَلَا and not walā
and not
يَهْدِيهِمْ guide them yahdīhim
guide them
سَبِيلًا ۘ (to) a way sabīlan
(to) a way
ٱتَّخَذُوهُ They took it (for worship) ittakhadhūhu
They took it (for worship)
وَكَانُوا۟ and they were wakānū
and they were
ظَـٰلِمِينَ wrongdoers ẓālimīna
wrongdoers
١٤٨ (148)
(148)
And the people of Moses made, after [his departure], from their ornaments a calf - an image having a lowing sound. Did they not see that it could neither speak to them nor guide them to a way? They took it [for worship], and they were wrongdoers.
7:149
وَلَمَّا And when walammā
And when
سُقِطَ (it was made to) fall suqiṭa
(it was made to) fall
فِىٓ into
into
أَيْدِيهِمْ their hands aydīhim
their hands
وَرَأَوْا۟ and they saw wara-aw
and they saw
أَنَّهُمْ that they annahum
that they
قَدْ (had) indeed qad
(had) indeed
ضَلُّوا۟ gone astray ḍallū
gone astray
قَالُوا۟ they said qālū
they said
لَئِن If la-in
If
لَّمْ not lam
not
يَرْحَمْنَا has Mercy on us yarḥamnā
has Mercy on us
رَبُّنَا Our Lord rabbunā
Our Lord
وَيَغْفِرْ and forgive wayaghfir
and forgive
لَنَا [for] us lanā
[for] us
لَنَكُونَنَّ we will surely be lanakūnanna
we will surely be
مِنَ among mina
among
ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ the losers l-khāsirīna
the losers
١٤٩ (149)
(149)
And when regret overcame them and they saw that they had gone astray, they said, "If our Lord does not have mercy upon us and forgive us, we will surely be among the losers."
7:150
وَلَمَّا And when walammā
And when
رَجَعَ returned rajaʿa
returned
مُوسَىٰٓ Musa mūsā
Musa
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
قَوْمِهِۦ his people qawmihi
his people
غَضْبَـٰنَ angry ghaḍbāna
angry
أَسِفًۭا and grieved asifan
and grieved
قَالَ he said qāla
he said
بِئْسَمَا Evil is what bi'samā
Evil is what
خَلَفْتُمُونِى you have done in my place khalaftumūnī
you have done in my place
مِنۢ from min
from
بَعْدِىٓ ۖ after me baʿdī
after me
أَعَجِلْتُمْ Were you impatient aʿajil'tum
Were you impatient
أَمْرَ (over the) matter amra
(over the) matter
رَبِّكُمْ ۖ (of) your Lord rabbikum
(of) your Lord
وَأَلْقَى And he cast down wa-alqā
And he cast down
ٱلْأَلْوَاحَ the tablets l-alwāḥa
the tablets
وَأَخَذَ and seized wa-akhadha
and seized
بِرَأْسِ by head birasi
by head
أَخِيهِ his brother akhīhi
his brother
يَجُرُّهُۥٓ dragging him yajurruhu
dragging him
إِلَيْهِ ۚ to himself ilayhi
to himself
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
ٱبْنَ O son ib'na
O son
أُمَّ (of) my mother umma
(of) my mother
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلْقَوْمَ the people l-qawma
the people
ٱسْتَضْعَفُونِى considered me weak is'taḍʿafūnī
considered me weak
وَكَادُوا۟ and were about to wakādū
and were about to
يَقْتُلُونَنِى kill me yaqtulūnanī
kill me
فَلَا So (let) not falā
So (let) not
تُشْمِتْ rejoice tush'mit
rejoice
بِىَ over me biya
over me
ٱلْأَعْدَآءَ the enemies l-aʿdāa
the enemies
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تَجْعَلْنِى place me tajʿalnī
place me
مَعَ with maʿa
with
ٱلْقَوْمِ the people l-qawmi
the people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ (who are) wrongdoing l-ẓālimīna
(who are) wrongdoing
١٥٠ (150)
(150)
And when Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved, he said, "How wretched is that by which you have replaced me after [my departure]. Were you impatient over the matter of your Lord?" And he threw down the tablets and seized his brother by [the hair of] his head, pulling him toward him. [Aaron] said, "O son of my mother, indeed the people overpowered me and were about to kill me, so let not the enemies rejoice over me and do not place me among the wrongdoing people."
7:151
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
رَبِّ O my Lord rabbi
O my Lord
ٱغْفِرْ Forgive igh'fir
Forgive
لِى me
me
وَلِأَخِى and my brother wali-akhī
and my brother
وَأَدْخِلْنَا and admit us wa-adkhil'nā
and admit us
فِى into
into
رَحْمَتِكَ ۖ Your Mercy raḥmatika
Your Mercy
وَأَنتَ for You wa-anta
for You
أَرْحَمُ (are) the Most Merciful arḥamu
(are) the Most Merciful
ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ (of) the merciful l-rāḥimīna
(of) the merciful
١٥١ (151)
(151)
[Moses] said, "My Lord, forgive me and my brother and admit us into Your mercy, for You are the most merciful of the merciful."
7:152
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ took ittakhadhū
took
ٱلْعِجْلَ the calf l-ʿij'la
the calf
سَيَنَالُهُمْ will reach them sayanāluhum
will reach them
غَضَبٌۭ wrath ghaḍabun
wrath
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّهِمْ their Lord rabbihim
their Lord
وَذِلَّةٌۭ and humiliation wadhillatun
and humiliation
فِى in
in
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ the life l-ḥayati
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
وَكَذَٰلِكَ And thus wakadhālika
And thus
نَجْزِى We recompense najzī
We recompense
ٱلْمُفْتَرِينَ the ones who invent (falsehood) l-muf'tarīna
the ones who invent (falsehood)
١٥٢ (152)
(152)
Indeed, those who took the calf [for worship] will obtain anger from their Lord and humiliation in the life of this world, and thus do We recompense the inventors [of falsehood].
7:153
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
عَمِلُوا۟ do ʿamilū
do
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ the evil deeds l-sayiāti
the evil deeds
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
تَابُوا۟ repented tābū
repented
مِنۢ from min
from
بَعْدِهَا after that baʿdihā
after that
وَءَامَنُوٓا۟ and believed waāmanū
and believed
إِنَّ indeed inna
indeed
رَبَّكَ your Lord rabbaka
your Lord
مِنۢ from min
from
بَعْدِهَا after that baʿdihā
after that
لَغَفُورٌۭ (is) surely Oft-Forgiving laghafūrun
(is) surely Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭ Most Merciful raḥīmun
Most Merciful
١٥٣ (153)
(153)
But those who committed misdeeds and then repented after them and believed - indeed your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful.
7:154
وَلَمَّا And when walammā
And when
سَكَتَ was calmed sakata
was calmed
عَن from ʿan
from
مُّوسَى Musa mūsā
Musa
ٱلْغَضَبُ the anger l-ghaḍabu
the anger
أَخَذَ he took (up) akhadha
he took (up)
ٱلْأَلْوَاحَ ۖ the tablets l-alwāḥa
the tablets
وَفِى and in wafī
and in
نُسْخَتِهَا their inscription nus'khatihā
their inscription
هُدًۭى (was) guidance hudan
(was) guidance
وَرَحْمَةٌۭ and mercy waraḥmatun
and mercy
لِّلَّذِينَ for those who lilladhīna
for those who
هُمْ [they] hum
[they]
لِرَبِّهِمْ of their Lord lirabbihim
of their Lord
يَرْهَبُونَ (are) fearful yarhabūna
(are) fearful
١٥٤ (154)
(154)
And when the anger subsided in Moses, he took up the tablets; and in their inscription was guidance and mercy for those who are fearful of their Lord.
7:155
وَٱخْتَارَ And chose wa-ikh'tāra
And chose
مُوسَىٰ Musa mūsā
Musa
قَوْمَهُۥ (from) his people qawmahu
(from) his people
سَبْعِينَ seventy sabʿīna
seventy
رَجُلًۭا men rajulan
men
لِّمِيقَـٰتِنَا ۖ for Our appointment limīqātinā
for Our appointment
فَلَمَّآ Then when falammā
Then when
أَخَذَتْهُمُ seized them akhadhathumu
seized them
ٱلرَّجْفَةُ the earthquake l-rajfatu
the earthquake
قَالَ he said qāla
he said
رَبِّ O my Lord rabbi
O my Lord
لَوْ If law
If
شِئْتَ you (had) willed shi'ta
you (had) willed
أَهْلَكْتَهُم You (could) have destroyed them ahlaktahum
You (could) have destroyed them
مِّن from min
from
قَبْلُ before qablu
before
وَإِيَّـٰىَ ۖ and me wa-iyyāya
and me
أَتُهْلِكُنَا Would You destroy us atuh'likunā
Would You destroy us
بِمَا for what bimā
for what
فَعَلَ did faʿala
did
ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ the foolish l-sufahāu
the foolish
مِنَّآ ۖ among us minnā
among us
إِنْ Not in
Not
هِىَ it (was) hiya
it (was)
إِلَّا but illā
but
فِتْنَتُكَ Your trial fit'natuka
Your trial
تُضِلُّ You let go astray tuḍillu
You let go astray
بِهَا by it bihā
by it
مَن whom man
whom
تَشَآءُ You will tashāu
You will
وَتَهْدِى and You guide watahdī
and You guide
مَن whom man
whom
تَشَآءُ ۖ You will tashāu
You will
أَنتَ You anta
You
وَلِيُّنَا (are) our Protector waliyyunā
(are) our Protector
فَٱغْفِرْ so forgive fa-igh'fir
so forgive
لَنَا us lanā
us
وَٱرْحَمْنَا ۖ and have mercy upon us wa-ir'ḥamnā
and have mercy upon us
وَأَنتَ and You wa-anta
and You
خَيْرُ (are) Best khayru
(are) Best
ٱلْغَـٰفِرِينَ (of) Forgivers l-ghāfirīna
(of) Forgivers
١٥٥ (155)
(155)
And Moses chose from his people seventy men for Our appointment. And when the earthquake seized them, he said, "My Lord, if You had willed, You could have destroyed them before and me [as well]. Would You destroy us for what the foolish among us have done? This is not but Your trial by which You send astray whom You will and guide whom You will. You are our Protector, so forgive us and have mercy upon us; and You are the best of forgivers.
7:156
۞ وَٱكْتُبْ And ordain wa-uk'tub
And ordain
لَنَا for us lanā
for us
فِى in
in
هَـٰذِهِ this hādhihi
this
ٱلدُّنْيَا [the] world l-dun'yā
[the] world
حَسَنَةًۭ good ḥasanatan
good
وَفِى and in wafī
and in
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ the Hereafter l-ākhirati
the Hereafter
إِنَّا Indeed, we innā
Indeed, we
هُدْنَآ we have turned hud'nā
we have turned
إِلَيْكَ ۚ to You ilayka
to You
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
عَذَابِىٓ My punishment ʿadhābī
My punishment
أُصِيبُ I afflict uṣību
I afflict
بِهِۦ with it bihi
with it
مَنْ whom man
whom
أَشَآءُ ۖ I will ashāu
I will
وَرَحْمَتِى but My Mercy waraḥmatī
but My Mercy
وَسِعَتْ encompasses wasiʿat
encompasses
كُلَّ every kulla
every
شَىْءٍۢ ۚ thing shayin
thing
فَسَأَكْتُبُهَا So I will ordain it fasa-aktubuhā
So I will ordain it
لِلَّذِينَ for those who lilladhīna
for those who
يَتَّقُونَ (are) righteous yattaqūna
(are) righteous
وَيُؤْتُونَ and give wayu'tūna
and give
ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ zakah l-zakata
zakah
وَٱلَّذِينَ and those who wa-alladhīna
and those who
هُم [they] hum
[they]
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا in Our Verses biāyātinā
in Our Verses
يُؤْمِنُونَ they believe yu'minūna
they believe
١٥٦ (156)
(156)
And decree for us in this world [that which is] good and [also] in the Hereafter; indeed, we have turned back to You." [Allāh] said, "My punishment - I afflict with it whom I will, but My mercy encompasses all things." So I will decree it [especially] for those who fear Me and give zakāh and those who believe in Our verses-
7:157
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who
يَتَّبِعُونَ follow yattabiʿūna
follow
ٱلرَّسُولَ the Messenger l-rasūla
the Messenger
ٱلنَّبِىَّ the Prophet l-nabiya
the Prophet
ٱلْأُمِّىَّ the unlettered l-umiya
the unlettered
ٱلَّذِى whom alladhī
whom
يَجِدُونَهُۥ they find him yajidūnahu
they find him
مَكْتُوبًا written maktūban
written
عِندَهُمْ with them ʿindahum
with them
فِى in
in
ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ the Taurat l-tawrāti
the Taurat
وَٱلْإِنجِيلِ and the Injeel wal-injīli
and the Injeel
يَأْمُرُهُم He commands them yamuruhum
He commands them
بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ to the right bil-maʿrūfi
to the right
وَيَنْهَىٰهُمْ and forbids them wayanhāhum
and forbids them
عَنِ from ʿani
from
ٱلْمُنكَرِ the wrong l-munkari
the wrong
وَيُحِلُّ and he makes lawful wayuḥillu
and he makes lawful
لَهُمُ for them lahumu
for them
ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ the pure things l-ṭayibāti
the pure things
وَيُحَرِّمُ and makes unlawful wayuḥarrimu
and makes unlawful
عَلَيْهِمُ for them ʿalayhimu
for them
ٱلْخَبَـٰٓئِثَ the impure things l-khabāitha
the impure things
وَيَضَعُ and he relieves wayaḍaʿu
and he relieves
عَنْهُمْ from them ʿanhum
from them
إِصْرَهُمْ their burden iṣ'rahum
their burden
وَٱلْأَغْلَـٰلَ and the fetters wal-aghlāla
and the fetters
ٱلَّتِى which allatī
which
كَانَتْ were kānat
were
عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ upon them ʿalayhim
upon them
فَٱلَّذِينَ So those who fa-alladhīna
So those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
بِهِۦ in him bihi
in him
وَعَزَّرُوهُ and honor him waʿazzarūhu
and honor him
وَنَصَرُوهُ and help him wanaṣarūhu
and help him
وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ and follow wa-ittabaʿū
and follow
ٱلنُّورَ the light l-nūra
the light
ٱلَّذِىٓ which alladhī
which
أُنزِلَ has been sent down unzila
has been sent down
مَعَهُۥٓ ۙ with him maʿahu
with him
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those (are) ulāika
Those (are)
هُمُ [they] humu
[they]
ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ the successful ones l-muf'liḥūna
the successful ones
١٥٧ (157)
(157)
Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered prophet, whom they find written [i.e., described] in what they have of the Torah and the Gospel, who enjoins upon them what is right and prohibits them from what is wrong and makes lawful for them what is good and forbids them from what is evil and relieves them of their burden and the shackles which were upon them. So they who have believed in him, honored him, supported him and followed the light which was sent down with him - it is those who will be the successful.
7:158
قُلْ Say qul
Say
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O yāayyuhā
O
ٱلنَّاسُ mankind l-nāsu
mankind
إِنِّى Indeed I am innī
Indeed I am
رَسُولُ (the) Messenger rasūlu
(the) Messenger
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
إِلَيْكُمْ to you ilaykum
to you
جَمِيعًا all jamīʿan
all
ٱلَّذِى the One alladhī
the One
لَهُۥ for Whom lahu
for Whom
مُلْكُ (is the) dominion mul'ku
(is the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
لَآ (There is) no
(There is) no
إِلَـٰهَ god ilāha
god
إِلَّا except illā
except
هُوَ Him huwa
Him
يُحْىِۦ He gives life yuḥ'yī
He gives life
وَيُمِيتُ ۖ and causes death wayumītu
and causes death
فَـَٔامِنُوا۟ So believe faāminū
So believe
بِٱللَّهِ in Allah bil-lahi
in Allah
وَرَسُولِهِ and His Messenger warasūlihi
and His Messenger
ٱلنَّبِىِّ the Prophet l-nabiyi
the Prophet
ٱلْأُمِّىِّ the unlettered l-umiyi
the unlettered
ٱلَّذِى the one who alladhī
the one who
يُؤْمِنُ believes yu'minu
believes
بِٱللَّهِ in Allah bil-lahi
in Allah
وَكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ and His Words wakalimātihi
and His Words
وَٱتَّبِعُوهُ and follow him wa-ittabiʿūhu
and follow him
لَعَلَّكُمْ so that you may laʿallakum
so that you may
تَهْتَدُونَ (be) guided tahtadūna
(be) guided
١٥٨ (158)
(158)
Say, [O Muḥammad], "O mankind, indeed I am the Messenger of Allāh to you all, [from Him] to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death." So believe in Allāh and His Messenger, the unlettered prophet, who believes in Allāh and His words, and follow him that you may be guided.
7:159
وَمِن And among wamin
And among
قَوْمِ (the) people qawmi
(the) people
مُوسَىٰٓ (of) Musa mūsā
(of) Musa
أُمَّةٌۭ (is) a community ummatun
(is) a community
يَهْدُونَ (which) guides yahdūna
(which) guides
بِٱلْحَقِّ with truth bil-ḥaqi
with truth
وَبِهِۦ and by it wabihi
and by it
يَعْدِلُونَ establishes justice yaʿdilūna
establishes justice
١٥٩ (159)
(159)
And among the people of Moses is a community which guides by truth and by it establishes justice.
7:160
وَقَطَّعْنَـٰهُمُ And We divided them waqaṭṭaʿnāhumu
And We divided them
ٱثْنَتَىْ (into) two ith'natay
(into) two
عَشْرَةَ (and) ten [i.e. twelve] ʿashrata
(and) ten [i.e. twelve]
أَسْبَاطًا tribes asbāṭan
tribes
أُمَمًۭا ۚ (as) communities umaman
(as) communities
وَأَوْحَيْنَآ And We inspired wa-awḥaynā
And We inspired
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
مُوسَىٰٓ Musa mūsā
Musa
إِذِ when idhi
when
ٱسْتَسْقَىٰهُ asked him for water is'tasqāhu
asked him for water
قَوْمُهُۥٓ his people qawmuhu
his people
أَنِ [that] ani
[that]
ٱضْرِب Strike iḍ'rib
Strike
بِّعَصَاكَ with your staff biʿaṣāka
with your staff
ٱلْحَجَرَ ۖ the stone l-ḥajara
the stone
فَٱنۢبَجَسَتْ Then gushed forth fa-inbajasat
Then gushed forth
مِنْهُ from it min'hu
from it
ٱثْنَتَا two ith'natā
two
عَشْرَةَ (and) ten [i.e. twelve] ʿashrata
(and) ten [i.e. twelve]
عَيْنًۭا ۖ springs ʿaynan
springs
قَدْ Certainly qad
Certainly
عَلِمَ knew ʿalima
knew
كُلُّ each kullu
each
أُنَاسٍۢ people unāsin
people
مَّشْرَبَهُمْ ۚ their drinking place mashrabahum
their drinking place
وَظَلَّلْنَا And We shaded waẓallalnā
And We shaded
عَلَيْهِمُ [on] them ʿalayhimu
[on] them
ٱلْغَمَـٰمَ (with) the clouds l-ghamāma
(with) the clouds
وَأَنزَلْنَا and We sent down wa-anzalnā
and We sent down
عَلَيْهِمُ upon them ʿalayhimu
upon them
ٱلْمَنَّ the manna l-mana
the manna
وَٱلسَّلْوَىٰ ۖ and the quails wal-salwā
and the quails
كُلُوا۟ Eat kulū
Eat
مِن from min
from
طَيِّبَـٰتِ (the) good things ṭayyibāti
(the) good things
مَا which
which
رَزَقْنَـٰكُمْ ۚ We have provided you razaqnākum
We have provided you
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
ظَلَمُونَا they wronged Us ẓalamūnā
they wronged Us
وَلَـٰكِن but walākin
but
كَانُوٓا۟ they were kānū
they were
أَنفُسَهُمْ (to) themselves anfusahum
(to) themselves
يَظْلِمُونَ doing wrong yaẓlimūna
doing wrong
١٦٠ (160)
(160)
And We divided them into twelve descendant tribes [as distinct] nations. And We inspired to Moses when his people implored him for water, "Strike with your staff the stone," and there gushed forth from it twelve springs. Every people [i.e., tribe] knew its watering place. And We shaded them with clouds and sent down upon them manna and quails, [saying], "Eat from the good things with which We have provided you." And they wronged Us not, but they were [only] wronging themselves.
7:161
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when
قِيلَ it was said qīla
it was said
لَهُمُ to them lahumu
to them
ٱسْكُنُوا۟ Live us'kunū
Live
هَـٰذِهِ (in) this hādhihi
(in) this
ٱلْقَرْيَةَ city l-qaryata
city
وَكُلُوا۟ and eat wakulū
and eat
مِنْهَا from it min'hā
from it
حَيْثُ wherever ḥaythu
wherever
شِئْتُمْ you wish shi'tum
you wish
وَقُولُوا۟ and say waqūlū
and say
حِطَّةٌۭ Repentance ḥiṭṭatun
Repentance
وَٱدْخُلُوا۟ and enter wa-ud'khulū
and enter
ٱلْبَابَ the gate l-bāba
the gate
سُجَّدًۭا prostrating sujjadan
prostrating
نَّغْفِرْ We will forgive naghfir
We will forgive
لَكُمْ for you lakum
for you
خَطِيٓـَٔـٰتِكُمْ ۚ your sins khaṭīātikum
your sins
سَنَزِيدُ We will increase (reward) sanazīdu
We will increase (reward)
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ (of) the good-doers l-muḥ'sinīna
(of) the good-doers
١٦١ (161)
(161)
And [mention, O Muḥammad], when it was said to them, "Dwell in this city [i.e., Jerusalem] and eat from it wherever you will and say, 'Relieve us of our burdens [i.e., sins],' and enter the gate bowing humbly; We will [then] forgive you your sins. We will increase the doers of good [in goodness and reward]."
7:162
فَبَدَّلَ But changed fabaddala
But changed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ظَلَمُوا۟ wronged ẓalamū
wronged
مِنْهُمْ among them min'hum
among them
قَوْلًا word qawlan
word
غَيْرَ other than ghayra
other than
ٱلَّذِى (that) which alladhī
(that) which
قِيلَ was said qīla
was said
لَهُمْ to them lahum
to them
فَأَرْسَلْنَا So We sent fa-arsalnā
So We sent
عَلَيْهِمْ upon them ʿalayhim
upon them
رِجْزًۭا torment rij'zan
torment
مِّنَ from mina
from
ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky l-samāi
the sky
بِمَا because bimā
because
كَانُوا۟ they were kānū
they were
يَظْلِمُونَ doing wrong yaẓlimūna
doing wrong
١٦٢ (162)
(162)
But those who wronged among them changed [the words] to a statement other than that which had been said to them. So We sent upon them a punishment from the sky for the wrong that they were doing.
7:163
وَسْـَٔلْهُمْ And ask them wasalhum
And ask them
عَنِ about ʿani
about
ٱلْقَرْيَةِ the town l-qaryati
the town
ٱلَّتِى which allatī
which
كَانَتْ was kānat
was
حَاضِرَةَ situated ḥāḍirata
situated
ٱلْبَحْرِ (by) the sea l-baḥri
(by) the sea
إِذْ when idh
when
يَعْدُونَ they transgressed yaʿdūna
they transgressed
فِى in
in
ٱلسَّبْتِ the (matter of) Sabbath l-sabti
the (matter of) Sabbath
إِذْ when idh
when
تَأْتِيهِمْ came to them tatīhim
came to them
حِيتَانُهُمْ their fish ḥītānuhum
their fish
يَوْمَ (on the) day yawma
(on the) day
سَبْتِهِمْ (of) their Sabbath sabtihim
(of) their Sabbath
شُرَّعًۭا visibly shurraʿan
visibly
وَيَوْمَ and (on the) day wayawma
and (on the) day
لَا not
not
يَسْبِتُونَ ۙ they had Sabbath yasbitūna
they had Sabbath
لَا (they did) not
(they did) not
تَأْتِيهِمْ ۚ come to them tatīhim
come to them
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika
Thus
نَبْلُوهُم We test them nablūhum
We test them
بِمَا because bimā
because
كَانُوا۟ they were kānū
they were
يَفْسُقُونَ defiantly disobeying yafsuqūna
defiantly disobeying
١٦٣ (163)
(163)
And ask them about the town that was by the sea - when they transgressed in [the matter of] the sabbath - when their fish came to them openly on their sabbath day, and the day they had no sabbath they did not come to them. Thus did We give them trial because they were defiantly disobedient.
7:164
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when
قَالَتْ said qālat
said
أُمَّةٌۭ a community ummatun
a community
مِّنْهُمْ among them min'hum
among them
لِمَ Why lima
Why
تَعِظُونَ (do) you preach taʿiẓūna
(do) you preach
قَوْمًا ۙ a people qawman
a people
ٱللَّهُ (whom) Allah l-lahu
(whom) Allah
مُهْلِكُهُمْ (is going to) destroy them muh'likuhum
(is going to) destroy them
أَوْ or aw
or
مُعَذِّبُهُمْ punish them muʿadhibuhum
punish them
عَذَابًۭا (with) a punishment ʿadhāban
(with) a punishment
شَدِيدًۭا ۖ severe shadīdan
severe
قَالُوا۟ They said qālū
They said
مَعْذِرَةً To be absolved maʿdhiratan
To be absolved
إِلَىٰ before ilā
before
رَبِّكُمْ your Lord rabbikum
your Lord
وَلَعَلَّهُمْ and that they may walaʿallahum
and that they may
يَتَّقُونَ become righteous yattaqūna
become righteous
١٦٤ (164)
(164)
And when a community among them said, "Why do you advise [or warn] a people whom Allāh is [about] to destroy or to punish with a severe punishment?" they [the advisors] said, "To be absolved before your Lord and perhaps they may fear Him."
7:165
فَلَمَّا So when falammā
So when
نَسُوا۟ they forgot nasū
they forgot
مَا what
what
ذُكِّرُوا۟ they had been reminded dhukkirū
they had been reminded
بِهِۦٓ with [it] bihi
with [it]
أَنجَيْنَا We saved anjaynā
We saved
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
يَنْهَوْنَ forbade yanhawna
forbade
عَنِ [from] ʿani
[from]
ٱلسُّوٓءِ the evil l-sūi
the evil
وَأَخَذْنَا and We seized wa-akhadhnā
and We seized
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ظَلَمُوا۟ wronged ẓalamū
wronged
بِعَذَابٍۭ with a punishment biʿadhābin
with a punishment
بَـِٔيسٍۭ wretched baīsin
wretched
بِمَا because bimā
because
كَانُوا۟ they were kānū
they were
يَفْسُقُونَ defiantly disobeying yafsuqūna
defiantly disobeying
١٦٥ (165)
(165)
And when they [i.e., those advised] forgot that by which they had been reminded, We saved those who had forbidden evil and seized those who wronged, with a wretched punishment, because they were defiantly disobeying.
7:166
فَلَمَّا So when falammā
So when
عَتَوْا۟ they exceeded all bounds ʿataw
they exceeded all bounds
عَن about ʿan
about
مَّا what
what
نُهُوا۟ they were forbidden nuhū
they were forbidden
عَنْهُ from it ʿanhu
from it
قُلْنَا We said qul'nā
We said
لَهُمْ to them lahum
to them
كُونُوا۟ Be kūnū
Be
قِرَدَةً apes qiradatan
apes
خَـٰسِـِٔينَ despised khāsiīna
despised
١٦٦ (166)
(166)
So when they were insolent about that which they had been forbidden, We said to them, "Be apes, despised."
7:167
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when
تَأَذَّنَ declared ta-adhana
declared
رَبُّكَ your Lord rabbuka
your Lord
لَيَبْعَثَنَّ that He would surely send layabʿathanna
that He would surely send
عَلَيْهِمْ upon them ʿalayhim
upon them
إِلَىٰ till ilā
till
يَوْمِ (the) Day yawmi
(the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
مَن (those) who man
(those) who
يَسُومُهُمْ would afflict them yasūmuhum
would afflict them
سُوٓءَ (with) a grievous sūa
(with) a grievous
ٱلْعَذَابِ ۗ [the] punishment l-ʿadhābi
[the] punishment
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
رَبَّكَ your Lord rabbaka
your Lord
لَسَرِيعُ (is) surely swift lasarīʿu
(is) surely swift
ٱلْعِقَابِ ۖ (in) the retribution l-ʿiqābi
(in) the retribution
وَإِنَّهُۥ but indeed, He wa-innahu
but indeed, He
لَغَفُورٌۭ (is) surely Oft-Forgiving laghafūrun
(is) surely Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭ Most Merciful raḥīmun
Most Merciful
١٦٧ (167)
(167)
And [mention] when your Lord declared that He would surely [continue to] send upon them until the Day of Resurrection those who would afflict them with the worst torment. Indeed, your Lord is swift in penalty; but indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful.
7:168
وَقَطَّعْنَـٰهُمْ And We divided them waqaṭṭaʿnāhum
And We divided them
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
أُمَمًۭا ۖ (as) nations umaman
(as) nations
مِّنْهُمُ Among them min'humu
Among them
ٱلصَّـٰلِحُونَ (are) the righteous l-ṣāliḥūna
(are) the righteous
وَمِنْهُمْ and among them wamin'hum
and among them
دُونَ (are) other than dūna
(are) other than
ذَٰلِكَ ۖ that dhālika
that
وَبَلَوْنَـٰهُم And We tested them wabalawnāhum
And We tested them
بِٱلْحَسَنَـٰتِ with the good bil-ḥasanāti
with the good
وَٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ and the bad wal-sayiāti
and the bad
لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may laʿallahum
so that they may
يَرْجِعُونَ return yarjiʿūna
return
١٦٨ (168)
(168)
And We divided them throughout the earth into nations. Of them some were righteous, and of them some were otherwise. And We tested them with good [times] and bad that perhaps they would return [to obedience].
7:169
فَخَلَفَ Then succeeded fakhalafa
Then succeeded
مِنۢ from min
from
بَعْدِهِمْ after them baʿdihim
after them
خَلْفٌۭ successors khalfun
successors
وَرِثُوا۟ (who) inherited warithū
(who) inherited
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book l-kitāba
the Book
يَأْخُذُونَ taking yakhudhūna
taking
عَرَضَ goods ʿaraḍa
goods
هَـٰذَا (of) this hādhā
(of) this
ٱلْأَدْنَىٰ the lower (life) l-adnā
the lower (life)
وَيَقُولُونَ and they say wayaqūlūna
and they say
سَيُغْفَرُ It will be forgiven sayugh'faru
It will be forgiven
لَنَا for us lanā
for us
وَإِن And if wa-in
And if
يَأْتِهِمْ comes to them yatihim
comes to them
عَرَضٌۭ goods ʿaraḍun
goods
مِّثْلُهُۥ similar to it mith'luhu
similar to it
يَأْخُذُوهُ ۚ they will take it yakhudhūhu
they will take it
أَلَمْ Was not alam
Was not
يُؤْخَذْ taken yu'khadh
taken
عَلَيْهِم on them ʿalayhim
on them
مِّيثَـٰقُ Covenant mīthāqu
Covenant
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book
أَن that an
that
لَّا not
not
يَقُولُوا۟ they will say yaqūlū
they will say
عَلَى about ʿalā
about
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
إِلَّا except illā
except
ٱلْحَقَّ the truth l-ḥaqa
the truth
وَدَرَسُوا۟ while they studied wadarasū
while they studied
مَا what
what
فِيهِ ۗ (is) in it fīhi
(is) in it
وَٱلدَّارُ And the home wal-dāru
And the home
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ (of) the Hereafter l-ākhiratu
(of) the Hereafter
خَيْرٌۭ (is) better khayrun
(is) better
لِّلَّذِينَ for those who lilladhīna
for those who
يَتَّقُونَ ۗ fear Allah yattaqūna
fear Allah
أَفَلَا So will not afalā
So will not
تَعْقِلُونَ you use intellect taʿqilūna
you use intellect
١٦٩ (169)
(169)
And there followed them successors who inherited the Scripture [while] taking the commodities of this lower life and saying, "It will be forgiven for us." And if an offer like it comes to them, they will [again] take it. Was not the covenant of the Scripture [i.e., the Torah] taken from them that they would not say about Allāh except the truth, and they studied what was in it? And the home of the Hereafter is better for those who fear Allāh, so will you not use reason?
7:170
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
يُمَسِّكُونَ hold fast yumassikūna
hold fast
بِٱلْكِتَـٰبِ to the Book bil-kitābi
to the Book
وَأَقَامُوا۟ and establish wa-aqāmū
and establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer l-ṣalata
the prayer
إِنَّا indeed, We innā
indeed, We
لَا (will) not
(will) not
نُضِيعُ [We] let go waste nuḍīʿu
[We] let go waste
أَجْرَ (the) reward ajra
(the) reward
ٱلْمُصْلِحِينَ (of) the reformers l-muṣ'liḥīna
(of) the reformers
١٧٠ (170)
(170)
But those who hold fast to the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] and establish prayer - indeed, We will not allow to be lost the reward of the reformers.
7:171
۞ وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when
نَتَقْنَا We raised nataqnā
We raised
ٱلْجَبَلَ the mountain l-jabala
the mountain
فَوْقَهُمْ above them fawqahum
above them
كَأَنَّهُۥ as if it was ka-annahu
as if it was
ظُلَّةٌۭ a canopy ẓullatun
a canopy
وَظَنُّوٓا۟ and they thought waẓannū
and they thought
أَنَّهُۥ that it annahu
that it
وَاقِعٌۢ (would) fall wāqiʿun
(would) fall
بِهِمْ upon them bihim
upon them
خُذُوا۟ (We said), "Take khudhū
(We said), "Take
مَآ what
what
ءَاتَيْنَـٰكُم We have given you ātaynākum
We have given you
بِقُوَّةٍۢ with strength biquwwatin
with strength
وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ and remember wa-udh'kurū
and remember
مَا what
what
فِيهِ (is) in it fīhi
(is) in it
لَعَلَّكُمْ so that you may laʿallakum
so that you may
تَتَّقُونَ fear Allah tattaqūna
fear Allah
١٧١ (171)
(171)
And [mention] when We raised the mountain above them as if it was a dark cloud and they were certain that it would fall upon them, [and Allāh said], "Take what We have given you with determination and remember what is in it that you might fear Allāh."
7:172
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when
أَخَذَ (was) taken akhadha
(was) taken
رَبُّكَ (by) your Lord rabbuka
(by) your Lord
مِنۢ from min
from
بَنِىٓ (the) Children banī
(the) Children
ءَادَمَ (of) Adam ādama
(of) Adam
مِن from min
from
ظُهُورِهِمْ their loins ẓuhūrihim
their loins
ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ their descendants dhurriyyatahum
their descendants
وَأَشْهَدَهُمْ and made them testify wa-ashhadahum
and made them testify
عَلَىٰٓ over ʿalā
over
أَنفُسِهِمْ themselves anfusihim
themselves
أَلَسْتُ Am I not alastu
Am I not
بِرَبِّكُمْ ۖ your Lord birabbikum
your Lord
قَالُوا۟ They said qālū
They said
بَلَىٰ ۛ Yes balā
Yes
شَهِدْنَآ ۛ we have testified shahid'nā
we have testified
أَن Lest an
Lest
تَقُولُوا۟ you say taqūlū
you say
يَوْمَ (on the) Day yawma
(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
إِنَّا Indeed innā
Indeed
كُنَّا we were kunnā
we were
عَنْ about ʿan
about
هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this
غَـٰفِلِينَ unaware ghāfilīna
unaware
١٧٢ (172)
(172)
And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam - from their loins - their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], "Am I not your Lord?" They said, "Yes, we have testified." [This] - lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection, "Indeed, we were of this unaware."
7:173
أَوْ Or aw
Or
تَقُولُوٓا۟ you say taqūlū
you say
إِنَّمَآ Only innamā
Only
أَشْرَكَ partners (were) associated (with Allah) ashraka
partners (were) associated (with Allah)
ءَابَآؤُنَا (by) our forefathers ābāunā
(by) our forefathers
مِن from min
from
قَبْلُ before (us) qablu
before (us)
وَكُنَّا and we are wakunnā
and we are
ذُرِّيَّةًۭ descendants dhurriyyatan
descendants
مِّنۢ from min
from
بَعْدِهِمْ ۖ after them baʿdihim
after them
أَفَتُهْلِكُنَا So will You destroy us afatuh'likunā
So will You destroy us
بِمَا for what bimā
for what
فَعَلَ did faʿala
did
ٱلْمُبْطِلُونَ the falsifiers l-mub'ṭilūna
the falsifiers
١٧٣ (173)
(173)
Or [lest] you say, "It was only that our fathers associated [others in worship] with Allāh before, and we were but descendants after them. Then would You destroy us for what the falsifiers have done?"
7:174
وَكَذَٰلِكَ And thus wakadhālika
And thus
نُفَصِّلُ We explain nufaṣṣilu
We explain
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ the Verses l-āyāti
the Verses
وَلَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may walaʿallahum
so that they may
يَرْجِعُونَ return yarjiʿūna
return
١٧٤ (174)
(174)
And thus do We [explain in] detail the verses, and perhaps they will return.
7:175
وَٱتْلُ And recite wa-ut'lu
And recite
عَلَيْهِمْ to them ʿalayhim
to them
نَبَأَ (the) story naba-a
(the) story
ٱلَّذِىٓ (of the) one whom alladhī
(of the) one whom
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ We gave [him] ātaynāhu
We gave [him]
ءَايَـٰتِنَا Our Verses āyātinā
Our Verses
فَٱنسَلَخَ but he detached fa-insalakha
but he detached
مِنْهَا [from] them min'hā
[from] them
فَأَتْبَعَهُ so followed him fa-atbaʿahu
so followed him
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ the Shaitaan l-shayṭānu
the Shaitaan
فَكَانَ and he became fakāna
and he became
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْغَاوِينَ those gone astray l-ghāwīna
those gone astray
١٧٥ (175)
(175)
And recite to them, [O Muḥammad], the news of him to whom We gave [knowledge of] Our signs, but he detached himself from them; so Satan pursued him, and he became of the deviators.
7:176
وَلَوْ And if walaw
And if
شِئْنَا We willed shi'nā
We willed
لَرَفَعْنَـٰهُ surely, We (could) have raised him larafaʿnāhu
surely, We (could) have raised him
بِهَا with these bihā
with these
وَلَـٰكِنَّهُۥٓ [and] but he walākinnahu
[and] but he
أَخْلَدَ adhered akhlada
adhered
إِلَى to ilā
to
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
وَٱتَّبَعَ and followed wa-ittabaʿa
and followed
هَوَىٰهُ ۚ his (vain) desires hawāhu
his (vain) desires
فَمَثَلُهُۥ So his example famathaluhu
So his example
كَمَثَلِ (is) like (the) example kamathali
(is) like (the) example
ٱلْكَلْبِ (of) the dog l-kalbi
(of) the dog
إِن if in
if
تَحْمِلْ you attack taḥmil
you attack
عَلَيْهِ [on] him ʿalayhi
[on] him
يَلْهَثْ he lolls out his tongue yalhath
he lolls out his tongue
أَوْ or aw
or
تَتْرُكْهُ if you leave him tatruk'hu
if you leave him
يَلْهَث ۚ he lolls out his tongue yalhath
he lolls out his tongue
ذَّٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
مَثَلُ (is the) example mathalu
(is the) example
ٱلْقَوْمِ (of) the people l-qawmi
(of) the people
ٱلَّذِينَ who alladhīna
who
كَذَّبُوا۟ denied kadhabū
denied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا ۚ [in] Our Signs biāyātinā
[in] Our Signs
فَٱقْصُصِ So relate fa-uq'ṣuṣi
So relate
ٱلْقَصَصَ the story l-qaṣaṣa
the story
لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may laʿallahum
so that they may
يَتَفَكَّرُونَ reflect yatafakkarūna
reflect
١٧٦ (176)
(176)
And if We had willed, We could have elevated him thereby, but he adhered [instead] to the earth and followed his own desire. So his example is like that of the dog: if you chase him, he pants, or if you leave him, he [still] pants. That is the example of the people who denied Our signs. So relate the stories that perhaps they will give thought.
7:177
سَآءَ Evil sāa
Evil
مَثَلًا (as) an example mathalan
(as) an example
ٱلْقَوْمُ (are) the people l-qawmu
(are) the people
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَذَّبُوا۟ denied kadhabū
denied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا Our Signs biāyātinā
Our Signs
وَأَنفُسَهُمْ and themselves wa-anfusahum
and themselves
كَانُوا۟ they used to kānū
they used to
يَظْلِمُونَ wrong yaẓlimūna
wrong
١٧٧ (177)
(177)
How evil an example [is that of] the people who denied Our signs and used to wrong themselves.
7:178
مَن Whoever man
Whoever
يَهْدِ (is) guided yahdi
(is) guided
ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah l-lahu
(by) Allah
فَهُوَ then he fahuwa
then he
ٱلْمُهْتَدِى ۖ (is) the guided one l-muh'tadī
(is) the guided one
وَمَن while whoever waman
while whoever
يُضْلِلْ He lets go astray yuḍ'lil
He lets go astray
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those fa-ulāika
then those
هُمُ [they] humu
[they]
ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ (are) the losers l-khāsirūna
(are) the losers
١٧٨ (178)
(178)
Whoever Allāh guides - he is the [rightly] guided; and whoever He sends astray - it is those who are the losers.
7:179
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad
And certainly
ذَرَأْنَا We have created dharanā
We have created
لِجَهَنَّمَ for Hell lijahannama
for Hell
كَثِيرًۭا many kathīran
many
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلْجِنِّ the jinn l-jini
the jinn
وَٱلْإِنسِ ۖ and men wal-insi
and men
لَهُمْ For them lahum
For them
قُلُوبٌۭ (are) hearts qulūbun
(are) hearts
لَّا (but) not
(but) not
يَفْقَهُونَ they understand yafqahūna
they understand
بِهَا with them bihā
with them
وَلَهُمْ and for them walahum
and for them
أَعْيُنٌۭ (are) eyes aʿyunun
(are) eyes
لَّا (but) not
(but) not
يُبْصِرُونَ they see yub'ṣirūna
they see
بِهَا with them bihā
with them
وَلَهُمْ and for them walahum
and for them
ءَاذَانٌۭ (are) ears ādhānun
(are) ears
لَّا (but) not
(but) not
يَسْمَعُونَ they hear yasmaʿūna
they hear
بِهَآ ۚ with them bihā
with them
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
كَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ (are) like cattle kal-anʿāmi
(are) like cattle
بَلْ nay bal
nay
هُمْ they hum
they
أَضَلُّ ۚ (are) more astray aḍallu
(are) more astray
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
هُمُ they humu
they
ٱلْغَـٰفِلُونَ (are) the heedless l-ghāfilūna
(are) the heedless
١٧٩ (179)
(179)
And We have certainly created for Hell many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. Those are like livestock; rather, they are more astray. It is they who are the heedless.
7:180
وَلِلَّهِ And for Allah walillahi
And for Allah
ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ (are) the names l-asmāu
(are) the names
ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ the most beautiful l-ḥus'nā
the most beautiful
فَٱدْعُوهُ so invoke Him fa-id'ʿūhu
so invoke Him
بِهَا ۖ by them bihā
by them
وَذَرُوا۟ And leave wadharū
And leave
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
يُلْحِدُونَ deviate yul'ḥidūna
deviate
فِىٓ concerning
concerning
أَسْمَـٰٓئِهِۦ ۚ His names asmāihi
His names
سَيُجْزَوْنَ They will be recompensed sayuj'zawna
They will be recompensed
مَا for what
for what
كَانُوا۟ they used to kānū
they used to
يَعْمَلُونَ do yaʿmalūna
do
١٨٠ (180)
(180)
And to Allāh belong the best names, so invoke Him by them. And leave [the company of] those who practice deviation concerning His names. They will be recompensed for what they have been doing.
7:181
وَمِمَّنْ And of (those) whom wamimman
And of (those) whom
خَلَقْنَآ We have created khalaqnā
We have created
أُمَّةٌۭ (is) a nation ummatun
(is) a nation
يَهْدُونَ who guides yahdūna
who guides
بِٱلْحَقِّ with the truth bil-ḥaqi
with the truth
وَبِهِۦ and thereby wabihi
and thereby
يَعْدِلُونَ they establish justice yaʿdilūna
they establish justice
١٨١ (181)
(181)
And among those We created is a community which guides by truth and thereby establishes justice.
7:182
وَٱلَّذِينَ But those who wa-alladhīna
But those who
كَذَّبُوا۟ denied kadhabū
denied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا Our Signs biāyātinā
Our Signs
سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم We will gradually lead them sanastadrijuhum
We will gradually lead them
مِّنْ from min
from
حَيْثُ where ḥaythu
where
لَا not
not
يَعْلَمُونَ they know yaʿlamūna
they know
١٨٢ (182)
(182)
But those who deny Our signs - We will progressively lead them [to destruction]1 from where they do not know.
7:183
وَأُمْلِى And I will give respite wa-um'lī
And I will give respite
لَهُمْ ۚ to them lahum
to them
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
كَيْدِى My plan kaydī
My plan
مَتِينٌ (is) firm matīnun
(is) firm
١٨٣ (183)
(183)
And I will give them time. Indeed, My plan is firm.
7:184
أَوَلَمْ Do not awalam
Do not
يَتَفَكَّرُوا۟ ۗ they reflect yatafakkarū
they reflect
مَا Not
Not
بِصَاحِبِهِم in their companion biṣāḥibihim
in their companion
مِّن [of] min
[of]
جِنَّةٍ ۚ (is) any madness jinnatin
(is) any madness
إِنْ Not in
Not
هُوَ he huwa
he
إِلَّا (is) but illā
(is) but
نَذِيرٌۭ a warner nadhīrun
a warner
مُّبِينٌ clear mubīnun
clear
١٨٤ (184)
(184)
Then do they not give thought? There is in their companion [i.e., Muḥammad (ﷺ)] no madness. He is not but a clear warner.
7:185
أَوَلَمْ Do not awalam
Do not
يَنظُرُوا۟ they look yanẓurū
they look
فِى in
in
مَلَكُوتِ (the) dominion malakūti
(the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
خَلَقَ has (been) created khalaqa
has (been) created
ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah l-lahu
(by) Allah
مِن of min
of
شَىْءٍۢ (every)thing shayin
(every)thing
وَأَنْ and that wa-an
and that
عَسَىٰٓ perhaps ʿasā
perhaps
أَن [that] an
[that]
يَكُونَ has yakūna
has
قَدِ verily qadi
verily
ٱقْتَرَبَ come near iq'taraba
come near
أَجَلُهُمْ ۖ their term ajaluhum
their term
فَبِأَىِّ So in what fabi-ayyi
So in what
حَدِيثٍۭ statement ḥadīthin
statement
بَعْدَهُۥ after this baʿdahu
after this
يُؤْمِنُونَ will they believe yu'minūna
will they believe
١٨٥ (185)
(185)
Do they not look into the realm of the heavens and the earth and everything that Allāh has created and [think] that perhaps their appointed time has come near? So in what statement [i.e., message] hereafter will they believe?
7:186
مَن Whoever man
Whoever
يُضْلِلِ (is) let go astray yuḍ'lili
(is) let go astray
ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah l-lahu
(by) Allah
فَلَا then (there is) no falā
then (there is) no
هَادِىَ guide hādiya
guide
لَهُۥ ۚ for him lahu
for him
وَيَذَرُهُمْ And He leaves them wayadharuhum
And He leaves them
فِى in
in
طُغْيَـٰنِهِمْ their transgression ṭugh'yānihim
their transgression
يَعْمَهُونَ wandering blindly yaʿmahūna
wandering blindly
١٨٦ (186)
(186)
Whoever Allāh sends astray - there is no guide for him. And He leaves them in their transgression, wandering blindly.
7:187
يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ They ask you yasalūnaka
They ask you
عَنِ about ʿani
about
ٱلسَّاعَةِ the Hour l-sāʿati
the Hour
أَيَّانَ when will be ayyāna
when will be
مُرْسَىٰهَا ۖ its appointed time mur'sāhā
its appointed time
قُلْ Say qul
Say
إِنَّمَا Only innamā
Only
عِلْمُهَا its knowledge ʿil'muhā
its knowledge
عِندَ (is) with ʿinda
(is) with
رَبِّى ۖ my Lord rabbī
my Lord
لَا no (one)
no (one)
يُجَلِّيهَا can reveal [it] yujallīhā
can reveal [it]
لِوَقْتِهَآ its time liwaqtihā
its time
إِلَّا except illā
except
هُوَ ۚ Him huwa
Him
ثَقُلَتْ It lays heavily thaqulat
It lays heavily
فِى in
in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
لَا Not
Not
تَأْتِيكُمْ will it come to you tatīkum
will it come to you
إِلَّا but illā
but
بَغْتَةًۭ ۗ suddenly baghtatan
suddenly
يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ They ask you yasalūnaka
They ask you
كَأَنَّكَ as if you ka-annaka
as if you
حَفِىٌّ (were) well informed ḥafiyyun
(were) well informed
عَنْهَا ۖ about it ʿanhā
about it
قُلْ Say qul
Say
إِنَّمَا Only innamā
Only
عِلْمُهَا its knowledge ʿil'muhā
its knowledge
عِندَ (is) with ʿinda
(is) with
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
وَلَـٰكِنَّ but walākinna
but
أَكْثَرَ most akthara
most
ٱلنَّاسِ (of) the people l-nāsi
(of) the people
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَ know yaʿlamūna
know
١٨٧ (187)
(187)
They ask you, [O Muḥammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival? Say, "Its knowledge is only with my Lord. None will reveal its time except Him. It lays heavily upon the heavens and the earth. It will not come upon you except unexpectedly." They ask you as if you are familiar with it. Say, "Its knowledge is only with Allāh, but most of the people do not know."
7:188
قُل Say qul

أَمْلِكُ I have power amliku

لِنَفْسِى for myself linafsī
for myself
نَفْعًۭا (to) benefit nafʿan
(to) benefit
وَلَا and no walā
and no
ضَرًّا (power to) harm ḍarran
(power to) harm
إِلَّا except illā
except
مَا what
what
شَآءَ wills shāa
wills
ٱللَّهُ ۚ Allah l-lahu
Allah
وَلَوْ And if walaw
And if
كُنتُ I would kuntu
I would
أَعْلَمُ know aʿlamu
know
ٱلْغَيْبَ (of) the unseen l-ghayba
(of) the unseen
لَٱسْتَكْثَرْتُ surely I could have multiplied la-is'takthartu
surely I could have multiplied
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْخَيْرِ the good l-khayri
the good
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
مَسَّنِىَ (could) have touched me massaniya
(could) have touched me
ٱلسُّوٓءُ ۚ the evil l-sūu
the evil
إِنْ Not in
Not
أَنَا۠ (am) I anā
(am) I
إِلَّا except illā
except
نَذِيرٌۭ a warner nadhīrun
a warner
وَبَشِيرٌۭ and a bearer of good tidings wabashīrun
and a bearer of good tidings
لِّقَوْمٍۢ to a people liqawmin
to a people
يُؤْمِنُونَ who believe yu'minūna
who believe
١٨٨ (188)
(188)
Say, "I hold not for myself [the power of] benefit or harm, except what Allāh has willed. And if I knew the unseen, I could have acquired much wealth, and no harm would have touched me. I am not except a warner and a bringer of good tidings to a people who believe."
7:189
۞ هُوَ He huwa
He
ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who alladhī
(is) the One Who
خَلَقَكُم created you khalaqakum
created you
مِّن from min
from
نَّفْسٍۢ a soul nafsin
a soul
وَٰحِدَةٍۢ single wāḥidatin
single
وَجَعَلَ and made wajaʿala
and made
مِنْهَا from it min'hā
from it
زَوْجَهَا its mate zawjahā
its mate
لِيَسْكُنَ that he might live liyaskuna
that he might live
إِلَيْهَا ۖ with her ilayhā
with her
فَلَمَّا And when falammā
And when
تَغَشَّىٰهَا he covers her taghashāhā
he covers her
حَمَلَتْ she carries ḥamalat
she carries
حَمْلًا a burden ḥamlan
a burden
خَفِيفًۭا light khafīfan
light
فَمَرَّتْ and continues famarrat
and continues
بِهِۦ ۖ with it bihi
with it
فَلَمَّآ But when falammā
But when
أَثْقَلَت she grows heavy athqalat
she grows heavy
دَّعَوَا they both invoke daʿawā
they both invoke
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
رَبَّهُمَا their Lord rabbahumā
their Lord
لَئِنْ If la-in
If
ءَاتَيْتَنَا You give us ātaytanā
You give us
صَـٰلِحًۭا a righteous (child) ṣāliḥan
a righteous (child)
لَّنَكُونَنَّ surely we will be lanakūnanna
surely we will be
مِنَ among mina
among
ٱلشَّـٰكِرِينَ the thankful l-shākirīna
the thankful
١٨٩ (189)
(189)
It is He who created you from one soul and created from it its mate that he might dwell in security with her. And when he [i.e., man] covers her, she carries a light burden [i.e., a pregnancy] and continues therein. And when it becomes heavy, they both invoke Allāh, their Lord, "If You should give us a good [child], we will surely be among the grateful."
7:190
فَلَمَّآ But when falammā
But when
ءَاتَىٰهُمَا He gives them ātāhumā
He gives them
صَـٰلِحًۭا a good, (child) ṣāliḥan
a good, (child)
جَعَلَا they make jaʿalā
they make
لَهُۥ for Him lahu
for Him
شُرَكَآءَ partners shurakāa
partners
فِيمَآ in what fīmā
in what
ءَاتَىٰهُمَا ۚ He has given them ātāhumā
He has given them
فَتَعَـٰلَى But exalted fataʿālā
But exalted
ٱللَّهُ (is) Allah l-lahu
(is) Allah
عَمَّا above what ʿammā
above what
يُشْرِكُونَ they associate (with Him) yush'rikūna
they associate (with Him)
١٩٠ (190)
(190)
But when He gives them a good [child], they ascribe partners to Him concerning that which He has given them. Exalted is Allāh above what they associate with Him.
7:191
أَيُشْرِكُونَ Do they associate ayush'rikūna
Do they associate
مَا what
what
لَا (can) not
(can) not
يَخْلُقُ create yakhluqu
create
شَيْـًۭٔا anything shayan
anything
وَهُمْ and they wahum
and they
يُخْلَقُونَ are created yukh'laqūna
are created
١٩١ (191)
(191)
Do they associate with Him those who create nothing and they are [themselves] created?
7:192
وَلَا And not walā
And not
يَسْتَطِيعُونَ they are able yastaṭīʿūna
they are able
لَهُمْ to (give) them lahum
to (give) them
نَصْرًۭا any help naṣran
any help
وَلَآ and not walā
and not
أَنفُسَهُمْ themselves anfusahum
themselves
يَنصُرُونَ can they help yanṣurūna
can they help
١٩٢ (192)
(192)
And they [i.e., the false deities] are unable to [give] them help, nor can they help themselves.
7:193
وَإِن And if wa-in
And if
تَدْعُوهُمْ you call them tadʿūhum
you call them
إِلَى to ilā
to
ٱلْهُدَىٰ the guidance l-hudā
the guidance
لَا not
not
يَتَّبِعُوكُمْ ۚ will they follow you yattabiʿūkum
will they follow you
سَوَآءٌ (It is) same sawāon
(It is) same
عَلَيْكُمْ for you ʿalaykum
for you
أَدَعَوْتُمُوهُمْ whether you call them adaʿawtumūhum
whether you call them
أَمْ or am
or
أَنتُمْ you antum
you
صَـٰمِتُونَ remain silent ṣāmitūna
remain silent
١٩٣ (193)
(193)
And if you [believers] invite them to guidance, they will not follow you. It is all the same for you whether you invite them or you are silent.
7:194
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those whom alladhīna
those whom
تَدْعُونَ you call tadʿūna
you call
مِن from min
from
دُونِ besides dūni
besides
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
عِبَادٌ (are) slaves ʿibādun
(are) slaves
أَمْثَالُكُمْ ۖ like you amthālukum
like you
فَٱدْعُوهُمْ So invoke them fa-id'ʿūhum
So invoke them
فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ and let them respond falyastajībū
and let them respond
لَكُمْ to you lakum
to you
إِن if in
if
كُنتُمْ you are kuntum
you are
صَـٰدِقِينَ truthful ṣādiqīna
truthful
١٩٤ (194)
(194)
Indeed, those you [polytheists] call upon besides Allāh are servants [i.e., creations] like you. So call upon them and let them respond to you, if you should be truthful.
7:195
أَلَهُمْ Are for them alahum
Are for them
أَرْجُلٌۭ feet arjulun
feet
يَمْشُونَ (to) walk yamshūna
(to) walk
بِهَآ ۖ with [it] bihā
with [it]
أَمْ or am
or
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
أَيْدٍۢ hands aydin
hands
يَبْطِشُونَ (to) hold yabṭishūna
(to) hold
بِهَآ ۖ with [it] bihā
with [it]
أَمْ or am
or
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
أَعْيُنٌۭ eyes aʿyunun
eyes
يُبْصِرُونَ (to) see yub'ṣirūna
(to) see
بِهَآ ۖ with [it] bihā
with [it]
أَمْ or am
or
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
ءَاذَانٌۭ ears ādhānun
ears
يَسْمَعُونَ (to) hear yasmaʿūna
(to) hear
بِهَا ۗ with [it] bihā
with [it]
قُلِ Say quli
Say
ٱدْعُوا۟ Call id'ʿū
Call
شُرَكَآءَكُمْ your partners shurakāakum
your partners
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
كِيدُونِ scheme against me kīdūni
scheme against me
فَلَا and (do) not falā
and (do) not
تُنظِرُونِ give me respite tunẓirūni
give me respite
١٩٥ (195)
(195)
Do they have feet by which they walk? Or do they have hands by which they strike? Or do they have eyes by which they see? Or do they have ears by which they hear? Say, [O Muḥammad], "Call your 'partners' and then conspire against me and give me no respite.
7:196
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
وَلِـِّۧىَ my protector waliyyiya
my protector
ٱللَّهُ (is) Allah l-lahu
(is) Allah
ٱلَّذِى the One Who alladhī
the One Who
نَزَّلَ revealed nazzala
revealed
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ۖ the Book l-kitāba
the Book
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
يَتَوَلَّى protects yatawallā
protects
ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ the righteous l-ṣāliḥīna
the righteous
١٩٦ (196)
(196)
Indeed, my protector is Allāh, who has sent down the Book; and He is an ally to the righteous.
7:197
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those whom wa-alladhīna
And those whom
تَدْعُونَ you invoke tadʿūna
you invoke
مِن from min
from
دُونِهِۦ besides Him dūnihi
besides Him
لَا not
not
يَسْتَطِيعُونَ they are able yastaṭīʿūna
they are able
نَصْرَكُمْ (to) help you naṣrakum
(to) help you
وَلَآ and not walā
and not
أَنفُسَهُمْ themselves anfusahum
themselves
يَنصُرُونَ can they help yanṣurūna
can they help
١٩٧ (197)
(197)
And those you call upon besides Him are unable to help you, nor can they help themselves."
7:198
وَإِن And if wa-in
And if
تَدْعُوهُمْ you call them tadʿūhum
you call them
إِلَى to ilā
to
ٱلْهُدَىٰ the guidance l-hudā
the guidance
لَا not
not
يَسْمَعُوا۟ ۖ do they not yasmaʿū
do they not
وَتَرَىٰهُمْ And you see them watarāhum
And you see them
يَنظُرُونَ looking yanẓurūna
looking
إِلَيْكَ at you ilayka
at you
وَهُمْ but they wahum
but they
لَا not
not
يُبْصِرُونَ (do) they see yub'ṣirūna
(do) they see
١٩٨ (198)
(198)
And if you invite them to guidance, they do not hear; and you see them looking at you while they do not see.
7:199
خُذِ Hold khudhi
Hold
ٱلْعَفْوَ (to) forgiveness l-ʿafwa
(to) forgiveness
وَأْمُرْ and enjoin wamur
and enjoin
بِٱلْعُرْفِ the good bil-ʿur'fi
the good
وَأَعْرِضْ and turn away wa-aʿriḍ
and turn away
عَنِ from ʿani
from
ٱلْجَـٰهِلِينَ the ignorant l-jāhilīna
the ignorant
١٩٩ (199)
(199)
Take what is given freely, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the ignorant.
7:200
وَإِمَّا And if wa-immā
And if
يَنزَغَنَّكَ an evil suggestion comes to you yanzaghannaka
an evil suggestion comes to you
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ [the] Shaitaan l-shayṭāni
[the] Shaitaan
نَزْغٌۭ [an evil suggestion] nazghun
[an evil suggestion]
فَٱسْتَعِذْ then seek refuge fa-is'taʿidh
then seek refuge
بِٱللَّهِ ۚ in Allah bil-lahi
in Allah
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He innahu
Indeed, He
سَمِيعٌ (is) All-Hearing samīʿun
(is) All-Hearing
عَلِيمٌ All-Knowing ʿalīmun
All-Knowing
٢٠٠ (200)
(200)
And if an evil suggestion comes to you from Satan, then seek refuge in Allāh. Indeed, He is Hearing and Knowing.
7:201
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ٱتَّقَوْا۟ fear (Allah) ittaqaw
fear (Allah)
إِذَا when idhā
when
مَسَّهُمْ touches them massahum
touches them
طَـٰٓئِفٌۭ an evil thought ṭāifun
an evil thought
مِّنَ from mina
from
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ the Shaitaan l-shayṭāni
the Shaitaan
تَذَكَّرُوا۟ they remember (Allah) tadhakkarū
they remember (Allah)
فَإِذَا and then fa-idhā
and then
هُم they hum
they
مُّبْصِرُونَ (are) those who see (aright) mub'ṣirūna
(are) those who see (aright)
٢٠١ (201)
(201)
Indeed, those who fear Allāh - when an impulse touches them from Satan, they remember [Him] and at once they have insight.
7:202
وَإِخْوَٰنُهُمْ But their brothers wa-ikh'wānuhum
But their brothers
يَمُدُّونَهُمْ they plunge them yamuddūnahum
they plunge them
فِى in
in
ٱلْغَىِّ the error l-ghayi
the error
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
لَا not
not
يُقْصِرُونَ they cease yuq'ṣirūna
they cease
٢٠٢ (202)
(202)
But their brothers - they [i.e., the devils] increase them in error; then they do not stop short.
7:203
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when
لَمْ not lam
not
تَأْتِهِم you bring them tatihim
you bring them
بِـَٔايَةٍۢ a Sign biāyatin
a Sign
قَالُوا۟ they say qālū
they say
لَوْلَا Why (have) not lawlā
Why (have) not
ٱجْتَبَيْتَهَا ۚ you devised it ij'tabaytahā
you devised it
قُلْ Say qul
Say
إِنَّمَآ Only innamā
Only
أَتَّبِعُ I follow attabiʿu
I follow
مَا what
what
يُوحَىٰٓ is revealed yūḥā
is revealed
إِلَىَّ to me ilayya
to me
مِن from min
from
رَّبِّى ۚ my Lord rabbī
my Lord
هَـٰذَا This (is) hādhā
This (is)
بَصَآئِرُ enlightenment baṣāiru
enlightenment
مِن from min
from
رَّبِّكُمْ your Lord rabbikum
your Lord
وَهُدًۭى and guidance wahudan
and guidance
وَرَحْمَةٌۭ and mercy waraḥmatun
and mercy
لِّقَوْمٍۢ for a people liqawmin
for a people
يُؤْمِنُونَ who believe yu'minūna
who believe
٢٠٣ (203)
(203)
And when you, [O Muḥammad], do not bring them a sign [i.e., miracle], they say, "Why have you not contrived it?" Say, "I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This [Qur’ān] is enlightenment from your Lord and guidance and mercy for a people who believe."
7:204
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when
قُرِئَ is recited quri-a
is recited
ٱلْقُرْءَانُ the Quran l-qur'ānu
the Quran
فَٱسْتَمِعُوا۟ then listen fa-is'tamiʿū
then listen
لَهُۥ to it lahu
to it
وَأَنصِتُوا۟ and pay attention wa-anṣitū
and pay attention
لَعَلَّكُمْ so that you may laʿallakum
so that you may
تُرْحَمُونَ receive mercy tur'ḥamūna
receive mercy
٢٠٤ (204)
(204)
So when the Qur’ān is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy.
7:205
وَٱذْكُر And remember wa-udh'kur
And remember
رَّبَّكَ your Lord rabbaka
your Lord
فِى in
in
نَفْسِكَ yourself nafsika
yourself
تَضَرُّعًۭا humbly taḍarruʿan
humbly
وَخِيفَةًۭ and (in) fear wakhīfatan
and (in) fear
وَدُونَ and without wadūna
and without
ٱلْجَهْرِ the loudness l-jahri
the loudness
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْقَوْلِ [the] words l-qawli
[the] words
بِٱلْغُدُوِّ in the mornings bil-ghuduwi
in the mornings
وَٱلْـَٔاصَالِ and (in) the evenings wal-āṣāli
and (in) the evenings
وَلَا And (do) not walā
And (do) not
تَكُن be takun
be
مِّنَ among mina
among
ٱلْغَـٰفِلِينَ the heedless l-ghāfilīna
the heedless
٢٠٥ (205)
(205)
And remember your Lord within yourself in humility and in fear without being apparent in speech - in the mornings and the evenings. And do not be among the heedless.
7:206
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
عِندَ (are) near ʿinda
(are) near
رَبِّكَ your Lord rabbika
your Lord
لَا not
not
يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ (do) they turn away in pride yastakbirūna
(do) they turn away in pride
عَنْ from ʿan
from
عِبَادَتِهِۦ His worship ʿibādatihi
His worship
وَيُسَبِّحُونَهُۥ And they glorify Him wayusabbiḥūnahu
And they glorify Him
وَلَهُۥ and to Him walahu
and to Him
يَسْجُدُونَ ۩ they prostrate yasjudūna
they prostrate
٢٠٦ (206)
(206)
Indeed, those who are near your Lord [i.e., the angels] are not prevented by arrogance from His worship, and they exalt Him, and to Him they prostrate.
