Ahmad ibn Mani’ told us, saying: ‘Abbad ibn al-‘Awwam told us, saying: Al-Hajjaj, who is Ibn Artah, informed us, on the authority of Simak ibn Harb, on the authority of Jabir ibn Samurah, who said: The legs of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, were thin, and he would not laugh except with a smile. So when I looked at him, I would say: He has kohl-rimmed eyes, but he does not.

Qutaybah ibn Sa'id told us: Ibn Lahi'ah informed us, on the authority of 'Ubayd Allah ibn al-Mughirah, on the authority of 'Abd Allah ibn al-Harith ibn Jaz', that he said: I have never seen anyone smile more than the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace.

Ahmad ibn Khalid al-Khallal told us: Yahya ibn Ishaq al-Saylahani told us: Layth ibn Sa’d told us, on the authority of Yazid ibn Abi Habib, on the authority of Abdullah ibn al-Harith, who said: The laughter of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was nothing but a smile.

Abu Ammar al-Husayn ibn Hurayth told us, saying: Waki’ told us, saying: Al-A’mash told us, on the authority of al-Ma’rur ibn Suwayd, on the authority of Abu Dharr, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “I know the first man to enter Paradise and the last man to leave Hell. A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and it will be said: ‘Show him his minor sins.’” And its major sins are hidden from him, so it is said to him: You did such and such on such and such a day, and he acknowledges it, does not deny it, and he is fearful of its major sins, so it is said: Give him a good deed in place of every evil deed he did, so he says: I have sins that I do not see here.

Ahmad ibn Mani’ told us, saying: Mu’awiyah ibn ‘Amr told us, saying: Za’idah told us, on the authority of Bayan, on the authority of Qays ibn Abi Hazim, on the authority of Jarir ibn ‘Abd Allah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, never turned me away since I embraced Islam, and he never saw me except that he smiled.

Ahmad ibn Mani’ told us, saying: Mu’awiyah ibn ‘Amr told us, saying: Za’idah told us, on the authority of Isma’il ibn Abi Khalid, on the authority of Qays, on the authority of Jarir, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, never barred me from seeing him, and he never saw me since I embraced Islam except that he smiled.

Hannad ibn al-Sari narrated to us, saying: Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, on the authority of al-A'mash, on the authority of Ibrahim, on the authority of 'Ubaydah al-Salmani, on the authority of 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I know the last of the people of Hell to leave it. A man will come out of it crawling, and it will be said to him: 'Go and enter Paradise.' He said: So he will go to enter." He will enter Paradise and find that the people have already taken their places. He will return and say, "O Lord, the people have taken their places." It will be said to him, "Do you remember the time when you were here?" He will say, "Yes." It will be said to him, "Make a wish." He will make a wish, and it will be said to him, "You will have what you wished for and ten times the world." He will say, "Are you mocking?" By me and you are the king. He said: I saw the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, laugh until his molars were visible.

Qutaybah ibn Sa'id narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Ahwas narrated to us, on the authority of Abu Ishaq, on the authority of Ali ibn Rabi'ah, who said: I witnessed Ali being brought a mount to ride. When he placed his foot in the stirrup, he said: "In the name of God." When he was settled on its back, he said: "Praise be to God." Then he said: "Glory be to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we could not have subdued it." And indeed, to our Lord we will return. Then he said: Praise be to God three times, and God is the Greatest three times, Glory be to You, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me, for none forgives sins except You. Then he laughed, so I said: What made you laugh, O Commander of the Faithful? He said: I saw the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, do as I did, then he laughed, so I said: What was it? Did you laugh, O Messenger of God? He said: Indeed, your Lord is pleased with His servant when he says: My Lord, forgive me my sins, for none but You forgives sins.

Muhammad ibn Bashar told us, saying: Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Ansari told us, saying: Abdullah ibn Awn told us, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Aswad, on the authority of Amir ibn Sa’d, who said: Sa’d said: I saw the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, laughing on the day of the Trench until his molars were visible. He said: I said: How was he? He said: He was a man He had a shield with him, and Sa`d was an archer. He was saying such and such while covering his forehead with the shield. Sa`d took out an arrow for him, and when he raised his head, he shot him and did not miss this part of him, meaning his forehead. The man turned away and kicked with his leg. The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, laughed until his molars were visible. He said: I said: What did he laugh at? He said: At his action. By the man.
