Bismillah

بِسْمِ In (the) name ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

15:1

الٓر ۚ Alif Laam Ra تِلْكَ These ءَايَـٰتُ (are) the Verses ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book وَقُرْءَانٍۢ and Quran مُّبِينٍۢ clear ١ (1)

Alif, Lām, Rā. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur’ān [i.e., recitation].

15:2

رُّبَمَا Perhaps يَوَدُّ will wish ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved لَوْ if كَانُوا۟ they had been مُسْلِمِينَ Muslims ٢ (2)

Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims.

15:3

ذَرْهُمْ Leave them يَأْكُلُوا۟ (to) eat وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ and enjoy وَيُلْهِهِمُ and diverted them ٱلْأَمَلُ ۖ the hope فَسَوْفَ then soon يَعْلَمُونَ they will come to know ٣ (3)

Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know.

15:4

وَمَآ And not أَهْلَكْنَا We destroyed مِن any قَرْيَةٍ town إِلَّا but وَلَهَا (there was) for it كِتَابٌۭ a decree مَّعْلُومٌۭ known ٤ (4)

And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree.

15:5

مَّا Not تَسْبِقُ (can) advance مِنْ any أُمَّةٍ nation أَجَلَهَا its term وَمَا and not يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ (can) delay it ٥ (5)

No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter.

15:6

وَقَالُوا۟ And they say يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you ٱلَّذِى (to) whom نُزِّلَ has been sent down عَلَيْهِ [on him] ٱلذِّكْرُ the Reminder إِنَّكَ indeed, you لَمَجْنُونٌۭ (are) surely mad ٦ (6)

And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad.

15:7

لَّوْ Why مَا not تَأْتِينَا you bring to us بِٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ the Angels إِن if كُنتَ you are مِنَ of ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ the truthful ٧ (7)

Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?"

15:8

مَا Not نُنَزِّلُ We send down ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ the Angels إِلَّا except بِٱلْحَقِّ with the truth وَمَا and not كَانُوٓا۟ they would be إِذًۭا then مُّنظَرِينَ given respite ٨ (8)

We do not send down the angels except with truth; and they [i.e., the disbelievers] would not then be reprieved.

15:9

إِنَّا Indeed, We نَحْنُ We نَزَّلْنَا have sent down ٱلذِّكْرَ the Reminder وَإِنَّا and indeed, We لَهُۥ of it لَحَـٰفِظُونَ (are) surely Guardians ٩ (9)

Indeed, it is We who sent down the message [i.e., the Qur’ān], and indeed, We will be its guardian.

15:10

وَلَقَدْ And certainly أَرْسَلْنَا We (had) sent مِن before you قَبْلِكَ before you فِى in شِيَعِ the sects ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (of) the former (people) ١٠ (10)

And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muḥammad], among the sects of the former peoples.

15:11

وَمَا And not يَأْتِيهِم came to them مِّن any رَّسُولٍ Messenger إِلَّا but كَانُوا۟ they did بِهِۦ at him يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ mock ١١ (11)

And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him.

15:12

كَذَٰلِكَ Thus نَسْلُكُهُۥ We let it enter فِى in قُلُوبِ (the) hearts ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ (of) the criminals ١٢ (12)

Thus do We insert it [i.e., denial] into the hearts of the criminals.

15:13

لَا Not يُؤْمِنُونَ they believe بِهِۦ ۖ in it وَقَدْ and verily خَلَتْ have passed سُنَّةُ the way(s) ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (of) the former (people) ١٣ (13)

They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples.

15:14

وَلَوْ And (even) if فَتَحْنَا We opened عَلَيْهِم to them بَابًۭا a gate مِّنَ from ٱلسَّمَآءِ the heaven فَظَلُّوا۟ and they were to continue فِيهِ therein يَعْرُجُونَ (to) ascend ١٤ (14)

And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend,

15:15

لَقَالُوٓا۟ They would surely say إِنَّمَا Only سُكِّرَتْ have been dazzled أَبْصَـٰرُنَا our eyes بَلْ Nay نَحْنُ we قَوْمٌۭ (are) a people مَّسْحُورُونَ bewitched ١٥ (15)

They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic."

15:16

وَلَقَدْ And verily جَعَلْنَا We have placed فِى in ٱلسَّمَآءِ the heavens بُرُوجًۭا constellations وَزَيَّنَّـٰهَا and We have beautified it لِلنَّـٰظِرِينَ for the observers ١٦ (16)

And We have placed within the heaven great stars and have beautified it for the observers.

15:17

وَحَفِظْنَـٰهَا And We have protected it مِن from كُلِّ every شَيْطَـٰنٍۢ devil رَّجِيمٍ accursed ١٧ (17)

And We have protected it from every devil expelled [from the mercy of Allāh]

15:18

إِلَّا Except مَنِ (one) who ٱسْتَرَقَ steals ٱلسَّمْعَ the hearing فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ then follows him شِهَابٌۭ a burning flame مُّبِينٌۭ clear ١٨ (18)

Except one who steals a hearing and is pursued by a clear burning flame.

15:19

وَٱلْأَرْضَ And the earth مَدَدْنَـٰهَا We have spread it وَأَلْقَيْنَا and [We] cast فِيهَا therein رَوَٰسِىَ firm mountains وَأَنۢبَتْنَا and [We] caused to grow فِيهَا therein مِن of كُلِّ every شَىْءٍۢ thing مَّوْزُونٍۢ well-balanced ١٩ (19)

And the earth - We have spread it and cast therein firmly set mountains and caused to grow therein [something] of every well-balanced thing.

15:20

وَجَعَلْنَا And We have made لَكُمْ for you فِيهَا therein مَعَـٰيِشَ means of living وَمَن and whom لَّسْتُمْ you are not لَهُۥ for him بِرَٰزِقِينَ providers ٢٠ (20)

And We have made for you therein means of living and [for] those for whom you are not providers.

15:21

وَإِن And not مِّن (is) any شَىْءٍ thing إِلَّا but عِندَنَا with Us خَزَآئِنُهُۥ (are) its treasures وَمَا and not نُنَزِّلُهُۥٓ We send it down إِلَّا except بِقَدَرٍۢ in a measure مَّعْلُومٍۢ known ٢١ (21)

And there is not a thing but that with Us are its depositories, and We do not send it down except according to a known [i.e., specified] measure.

15:22

وَأَرْسَلْنَا And We have sent ٱلرِّيَـٰحَ the winds لَوَٰقِحَ fertilizing فَأَنزَلْنَا and We sent down مِنَ from ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky مَآءًۭ water فَأَسْقَيْنَـٰكُمُوهُ and We gave it to you to drink وَمَآ And not أَنتُمْ you لَهُۥ of it بِخَـٰزِنِينَ (are) retainers ٢٢ (22)

And We have sent the fertilizing winds and sent down water from the sky and given you drink from it. And you are not its retainers.

15:23

وَإِنَّا And indeed, We لَنَحْنُ surely [We] نُحْىِۦ We give life وَنُمِيتُ and We cause death وَنَحْنُ and We ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ (are) the Inheritors ٢٣ (23)

And indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritor.

15:24

وَلَقَدْ And verily عَلِمْنَا We know ٱلْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ the preceding ones مِنكُمْ among you وَلَقَدْ and verily عَلِمْنَا We know ٱلْمُسْتَـْٔخِرِينَ the later ones ٢٤ (24)

And We have already known the preceding [generations] among you, and We have already known the later [ones to come].

15:25

وَإِنَّ And indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord هُوَ He يَحْشُرُهُمْ ۚ will gather them إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He حَكِيمٌ (is) All-Wise عَلِيمٌۭ All-Knowing ٢٥ (25)

And indeed, your Lord will gather them; indeed, He is Wise and Knowing.

15:26

وَلَقَدْ And verily خَلَقْنَا We created ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ humankind مِن (out) of صَلْصَـٰلٍۢ sounding clay مِّنْ from حَمَإٍۢ black mud مَّسْنُونٍۢ altered ٢٦ (26)

And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud.

15:27

وَٱلْجَآنَّ And the jinn خَلَقْنَـٰهُ We created it مِن before قَبْلُ before مِن from نَّارِ fire ٱلسَّمُومِ scorching ٢٧ (27)

And the jinn We created before from scorching fire.

15:28

وَإِذْ And when قَالَ your Lord said رَبُّكَ your Lord said لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ to the Angels إِنِّى Indeed, I خَـٰلِقٌۢ (will) create بَشَرًۭا a human being مِّن (out) of صَلْصَـٰلٍۢ clay مِّنْ from حَمَإٍۢ black mud مَّسْنُونٍۢ altered ٢٨ (28)

And [mention, O Muḥammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud.

15:29

فَإِذَا So, when سَوَّيْتُهُۥ I have fashioned him وَنَفَخْتُ and [I] breathed فِيهِ into him مِن of رُّوحِى My spirit فَقَعُوا۟ then fall down لَهُۥ to him سَـٰجِدِينَ prostrating ٢٩ (29)

And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration."

15:30

فَسَجَدَ So prostrated ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ the Angels كُلُّهُمْ all of them أَجْمَعُونَ together ٣٠ (30)

So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely,

15:31

إِلَّآ Except إِبْلِيسَ Iblis أَبَىٰٓ He refused أَن to يَكُونَ be مَعَ with ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ those who prostrated ٣١ (31)

Except Iblees; he refused to be with those who prostrated.

15:32

قَالَ He said يَـٰٓإِبْلِيسُ O Iblis مَا What لَكَ (is) for you أَلَّا that not تَكُونَ you are مَعَ with ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ those who prostrated ٣٢ (32)

[Allāh] said, "O Iblees, what is [the matter] with you that you are not with those who prostrate?"

15:33

قَالَ He said لَمْ I am not أَكُن I am not لِّأَسْجُدَ (one) to prostrate لِبَشَرٍ to a human خَلَقْتَهُۥ whom You created مِن (out) of صَلْصَـٰلٍۢ clay مِّنْ from حَمَإٍۢ black mud مَّسْنُونٍۢ altered ٣٣ (33)

He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud."

15:34

قَالَ He said فَٱخْرُجْ Then get out مِنْهَا of it فَإِنَّكَ for indeed, you رَجِيمٌۭ (are) expelled ٣٤ (34)

[Allāh] said, "Then depart from it, for indeed, you are expelled.

15:35

وَإِنَّ And indeed عَلَيْكَ upon you ٱللَّعْنَةَ (will be) the curse إِلَىٰ till يَوْمِ (the) Day ٱلدِّينِ (of) [the] Judgment ٣٥ (35)

And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense."

15:36

قَالَ He said رَبِّ O my Lord فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ Then give me respite إِلَىٰ till يَوْمِ (the) Day يُبْعَثُونَ they are raised ٣٦ (36)

He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected."

15:37

قَالَ He said فَإِنَّكَ Then indeed you مِنَ (are) of ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ the ones given respite ٣٧ (37)

[Allāh] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved

15:38

إِلَىٰ Till يَوْمِ the Day ٱلْوَقْتِ (of) the time ٱلْمَعْلُومِ well-known ٣٨ (38)

Until the Day of the time well-known."

15:39

قَالَ He said رَبِّ My Lord بِمَآ Because أَغْوَيْتَنِى You misled me لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ surely, I will make (evil) fair-seeming لَهُمْ to them فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ and I will mislead them أَجْمَعِينَ all ٣٩ (39)

[Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them [i.e., mankind] on earth, and I will mislead them all

15:40

إِلَّا Except عِبَادَكَ Your slaves مِنْهُمُ among them ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ the ones who are sincere ٤٠ (40)

Except, among them, Your chosen servants."

15:41

قَالَ He said هَـٰذَا This صِرَٰطٌ (is) the way عَلَىَّ to Me مُسْتَقِيمٌ straight ٤١ (41)

[Allāh] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight.

15:42

إِنَّ Indeed عِبَادِى My slaves لَيْسَ not لَكَ you have عَلَيْهِمْ over them سُلْطَـٰنٌ any authority إِلَّا except مَنِ those who ٱتَّبَعَكَ follow you مِنَ of ٱلْغَاوِينَ the ones who go astray ٤٢ (42)

Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators.

15:43

وَإِنَّ And indeed جَهَنَّمَ Hell لَمَوْعِدُهُمْ (is) surely the promised place for them أَجْمَعِينَ all ٤٣ (43)

And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all.

15:44

لَهَا For it سَبْعَةُ (are) seven أَبْوَٰبٍۢ gates لِّكُلِّ for each بَابٍۢ gate مِّنْهُمْ among them جُزْءٌۭ (is) a portion مَّقْسُومٌ assigned ٤٤ (44)

It has seven gates; for every gate is of them [i.e., Satan's followers] a portion designated."

15:45

إِنَّ Indeed ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ the righteous فِى (will be) in جَنَّـٰتٍۢ Gardens وَعُيُونٍ and water springs ٤٥ (45)

Indeed, the righteous will be within gardens and springs,

15:46

ٱدْخُلُوهَا Enter it بِسَلَـٰمٍ in peace ءَامِنِينَ secure ٤٦ (46)

[Having been told], "Enter it in peace, safe [and secure]."

15:47

وَنَزَعْنَا And We (will) remove مَا what فِى (is) in صُدُورِهِم their breasts مِّنْ of غِلٍّ rancor إِخْوَٰنًا (they will be) brothers عَلَىٰ on سُرُرٍۢ thrones مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ facing each other ٤٧ (47)

And We will remove whatever is in their breasts of resentment, [so they will be] brothers, on thrones facing each other.

15:48

لَا Not يَمَسُّهُمْ will touch them فِيهَا therein نَصَبٌۭ fatigue وَمَا and not هُم they مِّنْهَا from it بِمُخْرَجِينَ will be removed ٤٨ (48)

No fatigue will touch them therein, nor from it will they [ever] be removed.

15:49

۞ نَبِّئْ Inform عِبَادِىٓ My slaves أَنِّىٓ that I أَنَا I am ٱلْغَفُورُ the Oft-Forgiving ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ٤٩ (49)

[O Muḥammad], inform My servants that it is I who am the Forgiving, the Merciful,

15:50

وَأَنَّ And that عَذَابِى My punishment هُوَ it ٱلْعَذَابُ (is) the punishment ٱلْأَلِيمُ the most painful ٥٠ (50)

And that it is My punishment which is the painful punishment.

15:51

وَنَبِّئْهُمْ And inform them عَن about ضَيْفِ (the) guests إِبْرَٰهِيمَ (of) Ibrahim ٥١ (51)

And inform them about the guests of Abraham,

15:52

إِذْ When دَخَلُوا۟ they entered عَلَيْهِ upon him فَقَالُوا۟ and said سَلَـٰمًۭا Peace قَالَ He said إِنَّا Indeed, we مِنكُمْ (are) of you وَجِلُونَ afraid ٥٢ (52)

When they entered upon him and said, "Peace." [Abraham] said, "Indeed, we are fearful [i.e., apprehensive] of you."

15:53

قَالُوا۟ They said لَا (Do) not تَوْجَلْ be afraid إِنَّا indeed, we نُبَشِّرُكَ [we] bring glad tidings to you بِغُلَـٰمٍ of a boy عَلِيمٍۢ learned ٥٣ (53)

[The angels] said, "Fear not. Indeed, we give you good tidings of a learned boy."

15:54

قَالَ He said أَبَشَّرْتُمُونِى Do you give me glad tidings عَلَىٰٓ Do you give me glad tidings أَن although مَّسَّنِىَ has overtaken me ٱلْكِبَرُ old age فَبِمَ Then about what تُبَشِّرُونَ you give glad tidings ٥٤ (54)

He said, "Have you given me good tidings although old age has come upon me? Then of what [wonder] do you inform?"

15:55

قَالُوا۟ They said بَشَّرْنَـٰكَ We give you glad tidings بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth فَلَا so (do) not تَكُن be مِّنَ of ٱلْقَـٰنِطِينَ the despairing ٥٥ (55)

They said, "We have given you good tidings in truth, so do not be of the despairing."

15:56

قَالَ He said وَمَن And who يَقْنَطُ despairs مِن of رَّحْمَةِ (the) Mercy رَبِّهِۦٓ (of) his Lord إِلَّا except ٱلضَّآلُّونَ those who are astray ٥٦ (56)

He said, "And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except for those astray?"

15:57

قَالَ He said فَمَا Then what خَطْبُكُمْ (is) your business أَيُّهَا O messengers ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ O messengers ٥٧ (57)

[Abraham] said, "Then what is your business [here], O messengers?"

15:58

قَالُوٓا۟ They said إِنَّآ Indeed, we أُرْسِلْنَآ [we] have been sent إِلَىٰ to قَوْمٍۢ a people مُّجْرِمِينَ criminals ٥٨ (58)

They said, "Indeed, we have been sent to a people of criminals,

15:59

إِلَّآ Except ءَالَ the family لُوطٍ of Lut إِنَّا indeed, we لَمُنَجُّوهُمْ surely will save them أَجْمَعِينَ all ٥٩ (59)

Except the family of Lot; indeed, we will save them all

15:60

إِلَّا Except ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ his wife قَدَّرْنَآ ۙ We have decreed إِنَّهَا that she لَمِنَ (is) surely of ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ those who remain behind ٦٠ (60)

Except his wife." We [i.e., Allāh] decreed that she is of those who remain behind.

15:61

فَلَمَّا And when جَآءَ came ءَالَ (to the) family لُوطٍ (of) Lut ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ the messengers ٦١ (61)

And when the messengers came to the family of Lot,

15:62

قَالَ He said إِنَّكُمْ Indeed, you قَوْمٌۭ (are) a people مُّنكَرُونَ unknown ٦٢ (62)

He said, "Indeed, you are people unknown."

15:63

قَالُوا۟ They said بَلْ Nay جِئْنَـٰكَ we have come to you بِمَا with what كَانُوا۟ they were فِيهِ in it يَمْتَرُونَ disputing ٦٣ (63)

They said, "But we have come to you with that about which they were disputing,

15:64

وَأَتَيْنَـٰكَ And we have come to you بِٱلْحَقِّ with the truth وَإِنَّا and indeed, we لَصَـٰدِقُونَ surely (are) truthful ٦٤ (64)

And we have come to you with truth, and indeed, we are truthful.

15:65

فَأَسْرِ So travel بِأَهْلِكَ with your family بِقِطْعٍۢ in a portion مِّنَ of ٱلَّيْلِ the night وَٱتَّبِعْ and follow أَدْبَـٰرَهُمْ their backs وَلَا and not يَلْتَفِتْ let look back مِنكُمْ among you أَحَدٌۭ anyone وَٱمْضُوا۟ and go on حَيْثُ where تُؤْمَرُونَ you are ordered ٦٥ (65)

So set out with your family during a portion of the night and follow behind them and let not anyone among you look back and continue on to where you are commanded."

15:66

وَقَضَيْنَآ And We conveyed إِلَيْهِ to him ذَٰلِكَ [that] ٱلْأَمْرَ the matter أَنَّ that دَابِرَ (the) root هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ (of) these مَقْطُوعٌۭ would be cut off مُّصْبِحِينَ (by) early morning ٦٦ (66)

And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning.

15:67

وَجَآءَ And came أَهْلُ (the) people ٱلْمَدِينَةِ (of) the city يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ rejoicing ٦٧ (67)

And the people of the city came rejoicing.

15:68

قَالَ He said إِنَّ Indeed هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ these ضَيْفِى (are) my guests فَلَا so (do) not تَفْضَحُونِ shame me ٦٨ (68)

[Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me.

15:69

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ And fear ٱللَّهَ Allah وَلَا and (do) not تُخْزُونِ disgrace me ٦٩ (69)

And fear Allāh and do not disgrace me."

15:70

قَالُوٓا۟ They said أَوَلَمْ Did not نَنْهَكَ we forbid you عَنِ from ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ the world ٧٠ (70)

They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?"

15:71

قَالَ He said هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ These بَنَاتِىٓ (are) my daughters إِن if كُنتُمْ you would be فَـٰعِلِينَ doers ٧١ (71)

[Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]."

15:72

لَعَمْرُكَ By your life إِنَّهُمْ indeed, they لَفِى were in سَكْرَتِهِمْ their intoxication يَعْمَهُونَ wandering blindly ٧٢ (72)

By your life, [O Muḥammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly.

15:73

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ So, seized them ٱلصَّيْحَةُ the awful cry مُشْرِقِينَ at sunrise ٧٣ (73)

So the shriek seized them at sunrise.

15:74

فَجَعَلْنَا And We made عَـٰلِيَهَا its highest (part) سَافِلَهَا its lowest وَأَمْطَرْنَا and We rained عَلَيْهِمْ upon them حِجَارَةًۭ stones مِّن of سِجِّيلٍ baked clay ٧٤ (74)

And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay.

15:75

إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ (are) the Signs لِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ for those who discern ٧٥ (75)

Indeed in that are signs for those who discern.

15:76

وَإِنَّهَا And indeed, it لَبِسَبِيلٍۢ (is) on a road مُّقِيمٍ established ٧٦ (76)

And indeed, they [i.e., those cities] are [situated] on an established road.

15:77

إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ surely (is) a Sign لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ for the believers ٧٧ (77)

Indeed in that is a sign for the believers.

15:78

وَإِن And were كَانَ And were أَصْحَـٰبُ (the) companions ٱلْأَيْكَةِ (of) the wood لَظَـٰلِمِينَ surely wrongdoers ٧٨ (78)

And the companions of the thicket [i.e., the people of Madyan] were [also] wrongdoers,

15:79

فَٱنتَقَمْنَا So We took retribution مِنْهُمْ from them وَإِنَّهُمَا and indeed, they both لَبِإِمَامٍۢ (were) on a highway مُّبِينٍۢ clear ٧٩ (79)

So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway.

15:80

وَلَقَدْ And certainly كَذَّبَ denied أَصْحَـٰبُ (the) companions ٱلْحِجْرِ (of) the Rocky Tract ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers ٨٠ (80)

And certainly did the companions of al-Ḥijr [i.e., the Thamūd] deny the messengers.

15:81

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ And We gave them ءَايَـٰتِنَا Our Signs فَكَانُوا۟ but they were عَنْهَا from them مُعْرِضِينَ turning away ٨١ (81)

And We gave them Our signs, but from them they were turning away.

15:82

وَكَانُوا۟ And they used (to) يَنْحِتُونَ carve مِنَ from ٱلْجِبَالِ the mountains بُيُوتًا houses ءَامِنِينَ secure ٨٢ (82)

And they used to carve from the mountains, houses, feeling secure.

15:83

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ But seized them ٱلصَّيْحَةُ the awful cry مُصْبِحِينَ (at) early morning ٨٣ (83)

But the shriek seized them at early morning,

15:84

فَمَآ And not أَغْنَىٰ availed عَنْهُم them مَّا what كَانُوا۟ they used (to) يَكْسِبُونَ earn ٨٤ (84)

So nothing availed them [from] what they used to earn.

15:85

وَمَا And not خَلَقْنَا We created ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضَ and the earth وَمَا and whatever بَيْنَهُمَآ (is) between them إِلَّا except بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ in truth وَإِنَّ And indeed ٱلسَّاعَةَ the Hour لَـَٔاتِيَةٌۭ ۖ (is) surely coming فَٱصْفَحِ So overlook ٱلصَّفْحَ (with) forgiveness ٱلْجَمِيلَ gracious ٨٥ (85)

And We have not created the heavens and earth and that between them except in truth. And indeed, the Hour is coming; so forgive with gracious forgiveness.

15:86

إِنَّ Indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord هُوَ He ٱلْخَلَّـٰقُ (is) the Creator ٱلْعَلِيمُ the All-Knower ٨٦ (86)

Indeed, your Lord - He is the Knowing Creator.

15:87

وَلَقَدْ And certainly ءَاتَيْنَـٰكَ We have given you سَبْعًۭا seven مِّنَ of ٱلْمَثَانِى the oft-repeated وَٱلْقُرْءَانَ and the Quran ٱلْعَظِيمَ Great ٨٧ (87)

And We have certainly given you, [O Muḥammad], seven of the often repeated [verses]1 and the great Qur’ān.

15:88

لَا (Do) not تَمُدَّنَّ extend عَيْنَيْكَ your eyes إِلَىٰ towards مَا what مَتَّعْنَا We have bestowed بِهِۦٓ with it أَزْوَٰجًۭا (to) categories مِّنْهُمْ of them وَلَا and (do) not تَحْزَنْ grieve عَلَيْهِمْ over them وَٱخْفِضْ And lower جَنَاحَكَ your wing لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ to the believers ٨٨ (88)

Do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [certain] categories of them [i.e., the disbelievers], and do not grieve over them. And lower your wing [i.e., show kindness] to the believers.

15:89

وَقُلْ And say إِنِّىٓ Indeed, I أَنَا [I] am ٱلنَّذِيرُ a warner ٱلْمُبِينُ clear ٨٩ (89)

And say, "Indeed, I am the clear warner" -

15:90

كَمَآ As أَنزَلْنَا We sent down عَلَى on ٱلْمُقْتَسِمِينَ those who divided ٩٠ (90)

Just as We had revealed [scriptures] to the separators

15:91

ٱلَّذِينَ Those who جَعَلُوا۟ have made ٱلْقُرْءَانَ the Quran عِضِينَ (in) parts ٩١ (91)

Who have made the Qur’ān into portions.

15:92

فَوَرَبِّكَ So by your Lord لَنَسْـَٔلَنَّهُمْ surely We will question them أَجْمَعِينَ all ٩٢ (92)

So by your Lord, We will surely question them all

15:93

عَمَّا About what كَانُوا۟ they used (to) يَعْمَلُونَ do ٩٣ (93)

About what they used to do.

15:94

فَٱصْدَعْ So proclaim بِمَا of what تُؤْمَرُ you are ordered وَأَعْرِضْ and turn away عَنِ from ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ the polytheists ٩٤ (94)

Then declare what you are commanded and turn away from the polytheists.

15:95

إِنَّا Indeed, We كَفَيْنَـٰكَ [We] are sufficient for you ٱلْمُسْتَهْزِءِينَ (against) the mockers ٩٥ (95)

Indeed, We are sufficient for you against the mockers

15:96

ٱلَّذِينَ Those who يَجْعَلُونَ set up مَعَ with ٱللَّهِ Allah إِلَـٰهًا god ءَاخَرَ ۚ another فَسَوْفَ But soon يَعْلَمُونَ they will come to know ٩٦ (96)

Who make [equal] with Allāh another deity. But they are going to know.

15:97

وَلَقَدْ And verily نَعْلَمُ We know أَنَّكَ that [you] يَضِيقُ (is) straitened صَدْرُكَ your breast بِمَا by what يَقُولُونَ they say ٩٧ (97)

And We already know that your breast is constrained by what they say.

15:98

فَسَبِّحْ So glorify بِحَمْدِ with the praise رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord وَكُن and be مِّنَ of ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ those who prostrate ٩٨ (98)

So exalt [Allāh] with praise of your Lord and be of those who prostrate [to Him].

15:99

وَٱعْبُدْ And worship رَبَّكَ your Lord حَتَّىٰ until يَأْتِيَكَ comes to you ٱلْيَقِينُ the certainty ٩٩ (99)

And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty [i.e., death].
