بِسْمِ In (the) name bis'mi
In (the) name
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
14:1
الٓر ۚ Alif Laam Ra alif-lam-ra
Alif Laam Ra
كِتَـٰبٌ A Book kitābun
A Book
أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ which We have revealed anzalnāhu
which We have revealed
إِلَيْكَ to you ilayka
to you
لِتُخْرِجَ so that you may bring out litukh'rija
so that you may bring out
ٱلنَّاسَ the mankind l-nāsa
the mankind
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ the darkness[es] l-ẓulumāti
the darkness[es]
إِلَى to ilā
to
ٱلنُّورِ the light l-nūri
the light
بِإِذْنِ by the permission bi-idh'ni
by the permission
رَبِّهِمْ (of) their Lord rabbihim
(of) their Lord
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
صِرَٰطِ the Path ṣirāṭi
the Path
ٱلْعَزِيزِ (of) the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzi
(of) the All-Mighty
ٱلْحَمِيدِ the Praiseworthy l-ḥamīdi
the Praiseworthy
١ (1)
(1)
Alif, Lām, Rā. [This is] a Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], that you might bring mankind out of darknesses into the light by permission of their Lord - to the path of the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy -
14:2
ٱللَّهِ Allah al-lahi
Allah
ٱلَّذِى (is) the One alladhī
(is) the One
لَهُۥ to Him (belongs) lahu
to Him (belongs)
مَا whatever
whatever
فِى (is) in
(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَمَا and whatever wamā
and whatever
فِى (is) in
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
وَوَيْلٌۭ And woe wawaylun
And woe
لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ to the disbelievers lil'kāfirīna
to the disbelievers
مِنْ from min
from
عَذَابٍۢ the punishment ʿadhābin
the punishment
شَدِيدٍ severe shadīdin
severe
٢ (2)
(2)
Allāh, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And woe [i.e., destruction] to the disbelievers from a severe punishment -
14:3
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who
يَسْتَحِبُّونَ love more yastaḥibbūna
love more
ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ the life l-ḥayata
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
عَلَى than ʿalā
than
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ the Hereafter l-ākhirati
the Hereafter
وَيَصُدُّونَ and hinder wayaṣuddūna
and hinder
عَن from ʿan
from
سَبِيلِ (the) Path sabīli
(the) Path
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
وَيَبْغُونَهَا and seek in it wayabghūnahā
and seek in it
عِوَجًا ۚ crookedness ʿiwajan
crookedness
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those ulāika
those
فِى [in]
[in]
ضَلَـٰلٍۭ (are) far astray ḍalālin
(are) far astray
بَعِيدٍۢ (are) far astray baʿīdin
(are) far astray
٣ (3)
(3)
The ones who prefer the worldly life over the Hereafter and avert [people] from the way of Allāh, seeking to make it [seem] deviant. Those are in extreme error.
14:4
وَمَآ And not wamā
And not
أَرْسَلْنَا We sent arsalnā
We sent
مِن any min
any
رَّسُولٍ Messenger rasūlin
Messenger
إِلَّا except illā
except
بِلِسَانِ with the language bilisāni
with the language
قَوْمِهِۦ (of) his people qawmihi
(of) his people
لِيُبَيِّنَ so that he might make clear liyubayyina
so that he might make clear
لَهُمْ ۖ for them lahum
for them
فَيُضِلُّ Then Allah lets go astray fayuḍillu
Then Allah lets go astray
ٱللَّهُ Then Allah lets go astray l-lahu
Then Allah lets go astray
مَن whom man
whom
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
وَيَهْدِى and guides wayahdī
and guides
مَن whom man
whom
يَشَآءُ ۚ He wills yashāu
He wills
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzu
(is) the All-Mighty
ٱلْحَكِيمُ the All-Wise l-ḥakīmu
the All-Wise
٤ (4)
(4)
And We did not send any messenger except [speaking] in the language of his people to state clearly for them, and Allāh sends astray [thereby] whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
14:5
وَلَقَدْ And verily walaqad
And verily
أَرْسَلْنَا We sent arsalnā
We sent
مُوسَىٰ Musa mūsā
Musa
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ with Our Signs biāyātinā
with Our Signs
أَنْ that an
that
أَخْرِجْ Bring out akhrij
Bring out
قَوْمَكَ your people qawmaka
your people
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ the darkness[es] l-ẓulumāti
the darkness[es]
إِلَى to ilā
to
ٱلنُّورِ the light l-nūri
the light
وَذَكِّرْهُم And remind them wadhakkir'hum
And remind them
بِأَيَّىٰمِ of the days bi-ayyāmi
of the days
ٱللَّهِ ۚ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
فِى in
in
ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) the signs laāyātin
surely (are) the signs
لِّكُلِّ for everyone likulli
for everyone
صَبَّارٍۢ patient ṣabbārin
patient
شَكُورٍۢ and thankful shakūrin
and thankful
٥ (5)
(5)
And We certainly sent Moses with Our signs, [saying], "Bring out your people from darknesses into the light and remind them of the days of Allāh." Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.
14:6
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when
قَالَ said qāla
said
مُوسَىٰ Musa mūsā
Musa
لِقَوْمِهِ to his people liqawmihi
to his people
ٱذْكُرُوا۟ Remember udh'kurū
Remember
نِعْمَةَ (the) Favor of Allah niʿ'mata
(the) Favor of Allah
ٱللَّهِ (the) Favor of Allah l-lahi
(the) Favor of Allah
عَلَيْكُمْ upon you ʿalaykum
upon you
إِذْ when idh
when
أَنجَىٰكُم He saved you anjākum
He saved you
مِّنْ from min
from
ءَالِ (the) people āli
(the) people
فِرْعَوْنَ (of) Firaun fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
يَسُومُونَكُمْ they were afflicting you yasūmūnakum
they were afflicting you
سُوٓءَ (with) evil sūa
(with) evil
ٱلْعَذَابِ torment l-ʿadhābi
torment
وَيُذَبِّحُونَ and were slaughtering wayudhabbiḥūna
and were slaughtering
أَبْنَآءَكُمْ your sons abnāakum
your sons
وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ and letting live wayastaḥyūna
and letting live
نِسَآءَكُمْ ۚ your women nisāakum
your women
وَفِى And in wafī
And in
ذَٰلِكُم that dhālikum
that
بَلَآءٌۭ (was) a trial balāon
(was) a trial
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّكُمْ your Lord rabbikum
your Lord
عَظِيمٌۭ great ʿaẓīmun
great
٦ (6)
(6)
And [recall, O Children of Israel], when Moses said to his people, "Remember the favor of Allāh upon you when He saved you from the people of Pharaoh, who were afflicting you with the worst torment and were slaughtering your [newborn] sons and keeping your females alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord.
14:7
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when
تَأَذَّنَ proclaimed ta-adhana
proclaimed
رَبُّكُمْ your Lord rabbukum
your Lord
لَئِن If la-in
If
شَكَرْتُمْ you are thankful shakartum
you are thankful
لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ ۖ surely I will increase you la-azīdannakum
surely I will increase you
وَلَئِن but if wala-in
but if
كَفَرْتُمْ you are ungrateful kafartum
you are ungrateful
إِنَّ indeed inna
indeed
عَذَابِى My punishment ʿadhābī
My punishment
لَشَدِيدٌۭ (is) surely severe lashadīdun
(is) surely severe
٧ (7)
(7)
And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.'"
14:8
وَقَالَ And said waqāla
And said
مُوسَىٰٓ Musa mūsā
Musa
إِن If in
If
تَكْفُرُوٓا۟ you disbelieve takfurū
you disbelieve
أَنتُمْ you antum
you
وَمَن and whoever waman
and whoever
فِى (is) in
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
جَمِيعًۭا all jamīʿan
all
فَإِنَّ then indeed fa-inna
then indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
لَغَنِىٌّ certainly (is) Free of need laghaniyyun
certainly (is) Free of need
حَمِيدٌ Praiseworthy ḥamīdun
Praiseworthy
٨ (8)
(8)
And Moses said, "If you should disbelieve, you and whoever is on the earth entirely - indeed, Allāh is Free of need and Praiseworthy."
14:9
أَلَمْ Has not alam
Has not
يَأْتِكُمْ come to you yatikum
come to you
نَبَؤُا۟ (the) news naba-u
(the) news
ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who alladhīna
(of) those who
مِن (were) before you min
(were) before you
قَبْلِكُمْ (were) before you qablikum
(were) before you
قَوْمِ the people qawmi
the people
نُوحٍۢ of Nuh nūḥin
of Nuh
وَعَادٍۢ and Aad waʿādin
and Aad
وَثَمُودَ ۛ and Thamud wathamūda
and Thamud
وَٱلَّذِينَ and those who wa-alladhīna
and those who
مِنۢ (were) after them min
(were) after them
بَعْدِهِمْ ۛ (were) after them baʿdihim
(were) after them
لَا None
None
يَعْلَمُهُمْ knows them yaʿlamuhum
knows them
إِلَّا except illā
except
ٱللَّهُ ۚ Allah l-lahu
Allah
جَآءَتْهُمْ Came to them jāathum
Came to them
رُسُلُهُم their Messengers rusuluhum
their Messengers
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ with clear proofs bil-bayināti
with clear proofs
فَرَدُّوٓا۟ but they returned faraddū
but they returned
أَيْدِيَهُمْ their hands aydiyahum
their hands
فِىٓ in
in
أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ their mouths afwāhihim
their mouths
وَقَالُوٓا۟ and they said waqālū
and they said
إِنَّا Indeed we innā
Indeed we
كَفَرْنَا [we] disbelieve kafarnā
[we] disbelieve
بِمَآ in what bimā
in what
أُرْسِلْتُم you have been sent ur'sil'tum
you have been sent
بِهِۦ with [it] bihi
with [it]
وَإِنَّا and indeed, we wa-innā
and indeed, we
لَفِى (are) surely in lafī
(are) surely in
شَكٍّۢ doubt shakkin
doubt
مِّمَّا about what mimmā
about what
تَدْعُونَنَآ you invite us tadʿūnanā
you invite us
إِلَيْهِ to it ilayhi
to it
مُرِيبٍۢ suspicious murībin
suspicious
٩ (9)
(9)
Has there not reached you the news of those before you - the people of Noah and ʿAad and Thamūd and those after them? No one knows them [i.e., their number] but Allāh. Their messengers brought them clear proofs, but they returned their hands to their mouths and said, "Indeed, we disbelieve in that with which you have been sent, and indeed we are, about that to which you invite us, in disquieting doubt."
14:10
۞ قَالَتْ Said qālat
Said
رُسُلُهُمْ their Messengers rusuluhum
their Messengers
أَفِى Can (there) be about afī
Can (there) be about
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
شَكٌّۭ any doubt shakkun
any doubt
فَاطِرِ (the) Creator fāṭiri
(the) Creator
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
يَدْعُوكُمْ He invites you yadʿūkum
He invites you
لِيَغْفِرَ so that He may forgive liyaghfira
so that He may forgive
لَكُم for you lakum
for you
مِّن [of] min
[of]
ذُنُوبِكُمْ your sins dhunūbikum
your sins
وَيُؤَخِّرَكُمْ and give you respite wayu-akhirakum
and give you respite
إِلَىٰٓ for ilā
for
أَجَلٍۢ a term ajalin
a term
مُّسَمًّۭى ۚ appointed musamman
appointed
قَالُوٓا۟ They said qālū
They said
إِنْ Not in
Not
أَنتُمْ you antum
you
إِلَّا (are) but illā
(are) but
بَشَرٌۭ a human basharun
a human
مِّثْلُنَا like us mith'lunā
like us
تُرِيدُونَ you wish turīdūna
you wish
أَن to an
to
تَصُدُّونَا hinder us taṣuddūnā
hinder us
عَمَّا from what ʿammā
from what
كَانَ used to kāna
used to
يَعْبُدُ worship yaʿbudu
worship
ءَابَآؤُنَا our forefathers ābāunā
our forefathers
فَأْتُونَا So bring us fatūnā
So bring us
بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۢ an authority bisul'ṭānin
an authority
مُّبِينٍۢ clear mubīnin
clear
١٠ (10)
(10)
Their messengers said, "Can there be doubt about Allāh, Creator of the heavens and earth? He invites you that He may forgive you of your sins, and He delays you [i.e., your death] for a specified term." They said, "You are not but men like us who wish to avert us from what our fathers were worshipping. So bring us a clear authority [i.e., evidence]."
14:11
قَالَتْ Said qālat
Said
لَهُمْ to them lahum
to them
رُسُلُهُمْ their Messengers rusuluhum
their Messengers
إِن Not in
Not
نَّحْنُ we (are) naḥnu
we (are)
إِلَّا but illā
but
بَشَرٌۭ a human basharun
a human
مِّثْلُكُمْ like you mith'lukum
like you
وَلَـٰكِنَّ but walākinna
but
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
يَمُنُّ bestows His Grace yamunnu
bestows His Grace
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
مَن whom man
whom
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
مِنْ of min
of
عِبَادِهِۦ ۖ His slaves ʿibādihi
His slaves
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
كَانَ is kāna
is
لَنَآ for us lanā
for us
أَن that an
that
نَّأْتِيَكُم we bring you natiyakum
we bring you
بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ an authority bisul'ṭānin
an authority
إِلَّا except illā
except
بِإِذْنِ by the permission of Allah bi-idh'ni
by the permission of Allah
ٱللَّهِ ۚ by the permission of Allah l-lahi
by the permission of Allah
وَعَلَى And upon waʿalā
And upon
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ so let put (their) trust falyatawakkali
so let put (their) trust
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ the believers l-mu'minūna
the believers
١١ (11)
(11)
Their messengers said to them, "We are only men like you, but Allāh confers favor upon whom He wills of His servants. It has never been for us to bring you evidence except by permission of Allāh. And upon Allāh let the believers rely.
14:12
وَمَا And what wamā
And what
لَنَآ (is) for us lanā
(is) for us
أَلَّا that not allā
that not
نَتَوَكَّلَ we put our trust natawakkala
we put our trust
عَلَى upon ʿalā
upon
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
وَقَدْ while certainly waqad
while certainly
هَدَىٰنَا He has guided us hadānā
He has guided us
سُبُلَنَا ۚ to our ways subulanā
to our ways
وَلَنَصْبِرَنَّ And surely we will bear with patience walanaṣbiranna
And surely we will bear with patience
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
مَآ what
what
ءَاذَيْتُمُونَا ۚ harm you may cause us ādhaytumūnā
harm you may cause us
وَعَلَى And upon waʿalā
And upon
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ so let put (their) trust falyatawakkali
so let put (their) trust
ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ the ones who put (their) trust l-mutawakilūna
the ones who put (their) trust
١٢ (12)
(12)
And why should we not rely upon Allāh while He has guided us to our [good] ways. And we will surely be patient against whatever harm you should cause us. And upon Allāh let those who would rely [indeed] rely."
14:13
وَقَالَ And said waqāla
And said
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved
لِرُسُلِهِمْ to their Messengers lirusulihim
to their Messengers
لَنُخْرِجَنَّكُم Surely we will drive you out lanukh'rijannakum
Surely we will drive you out
مِّنْ of min
of
أَرْضِنَآ our land arḍinā
our land
أَوْ or aw
or
لَتَعُودُنَّ surely you should return lataʿūdunna
surely you should return
فِى to
to
مِلَّتِنَا ۖ our religion millatinā
our religion
فَأَوْحَىٰٓ So inspired fa-awḥā
So inspired
إِلَيْهِمْ to them ilayhim
to them
رَبُّهُمْ their Lord rabbuhum
their Lord
لَنُهْلِكَنَّ We will surely destroy lanuh'likanna
We will surely destroy
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
١٣ (13)
(13)
And those who disbelieved said to their messengers, "We will surely drive you out of our land, or you must return to our religion." So their Lord inspired to them, "We will surely destroy the wrongdoers.
14:14
وَلَنُسْكِنَنَّكُمُ And surely We will make you dwell walanus'kinannakumu
And surely We will make you dwell
ٱلْأَرْضَ (in) the land l-arḍa
(in) the land
مِنۢ after them min
after them
بَعْدِهِمْ ۚ after them baʿdihim
after them
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
لِمَنْ (is) for whoever liman
(is) for whoever
خَافَ fears khāfa
fears
مَقَامِى standing before Me maqāmī
standing before Me
وَخَافَ and fears wakhāfa
and fears
وَعِيدِ My Threat waʿīdi
My Threat
١٤ (14)
(14)
And We will surely cause you to dwell in the land after them. That is for he who fears My position and fears My threat."
14:15
وَٱسْتَفْتَحُوا۟ And they sought victory wa-is'taftaḥū
And they sought victory
وَخَابَ and disappointed wakhāba
and disappointed
كُلُّ every kullu
every
جَبَّارٍ tyrant jabbārin
tyrant
عَنِيدٍۢ obstinate ʿanīdin
obstinate
١٥ (15)
(15)
And they requested decision [i.e., victory from Allāh], and disappointed, [therefore], was every obstinate tyrant.
14:16
مِّن of him min
of him
وَرَآئِهِۦ Ahead warāihi
Ahead
جَهَنَّمُ (is) Hell jahannamu
(is) Hell
وَيُسْقَىٰ and he will be made to drink wayus'qā
and he will be made to drink
مِن of min
of
مَّآءٍۢ water māin
water
صَدِيدٍۢ purulent ṣadīdin
purulent
١٦ (16)
(16)
Before him is Hell, and he will be given a drink of purulent water.
14:17
يَتَجَرَّعُهُۥ He will sip it yatajarraʿuhu
He will sip it
وَلَا but not walā
but not
يَكَادُ he will be near yakādu
he will be near
يُسِيغُهُۥ (to) swallowing it yusīghuhu
(to) swallowing it
وَيَأْتِيهِ And will come to him wayatīhi
And will come to him
ٱلْمَوْتُ the death l-mawtu
the death
مِن from min
from
كُلِّ every kulli
every
مَكَانٍۢ side makānin
side
وَمَا but not wamā
but not
هُوَ he huwa
he
بِمَيِّتٍۢ ۖ will die bimayyitin
will die
وَمِن And ahead of him wamin
And ahead of him
وَرَآئِهِۦ And ahead of him warāihi
And ahead of him
عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
غَلِيظٌۭ harsh ghalīẓun
harsh
١٧ (17)
(17)
He will gulp it but will hardly [be able to] swallow it. And death will come to him from everywhere, but he is not to die. And before him is a massive punishment.
14:18
مَّثَلُ (The) example mathalu
(The) example
ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who alladhīna
(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
بِرَبِّهِمْ ۖ in their Lord birabbihim
in their Lord
أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ their deeds aʿmāluhum
their deeds
كَرَمَادٍ (are) like ashes karamādin
(are) like ashes
ٱشْتَدَّتْ blows furiously ish'taddat
blows furiously
بِهِ on it bihi
on it
ٱلرِّيحُ the wind l-rīḥu
the wind
فِى in
in
يَوْمٍ a day yawmin
a day
عَاصِفٍۢ ۖ stormy ʿāṣifin
stormy
لَّا No
No
يَقْدِرُونَ control (they have) yaqdirūna
control (they have)
مِمَّا of what mimmā
of what
كَسَبُوا۟ they have earned kasabū
they have earned
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
شَىْءٍۢ ۚ anything shayin
anything
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
هُوَ [it] huwa
[it]
ٱلضَّلَـٰلُ (is) the straying l-ḍalālu
(is) the straying
ٱلْبَعِيدُ far l-baʿīdu
far
١٨ (18)
(18)
The example of those who disbelieve in their Lord is [that] their deeds are like ashes which the wind blows forcefully on a stormy day; they are unable [to keep] from what they earned a [single] thing. That is what is extreme error.
14:19
أَلَمْ Do not alam
Do not
تَرَ you see tara
you see
أَنَّ that anna
that
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
خَلَقَ created khalaqa
created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَ and the earth wal-arḍa
and the earth
بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ in truth bil-ḥaqi
in truth
إِن If in
If
يَشَأْ He wills yasha
He wills
يُذْهِبْكُمْ He can remove you yudh'hib'kum
He can remove you
وَيَأْتِ and bring wayati
and bring
بِخَلْقٍۢ a creation bikhalqin
a creation
جَدِيدٍۢ new jadīdin
new
١٩ (19)
(19)
Have you not seen [i.e., considered] that Allāh created the heavens and the earth in truth? If He wills, He can do away with you and produce a new creation.
14:20
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
ذَٰلِكَ (is) that dhālika
(is) that
عَلَى on ʿalā
on
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
بِعَزِيزٍۢ great biʿazīzin
great
٢٠ (20)
(20)
And that is not difficult for Allāh.
14:21
وَبَرَزُوا۟ And they will come forth wabarazū
And they will come forth
لِلَّهِ before Allah lillahi
before Allah
جَمِيعًۭا all together jamīʿan
all together
فَقَالَ then will say faqāla
then will say
ٱلضُّعَفَـٰٓؤُا۟ the weak l-ḍuʿafāu
the weak
لِلَّذِينَ to those who lilladhīna
to those who
ٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟ were arrogant is'takbarū
were arrogant
إِنَّا Indeed we innā
Indeed we
كُنَّا we were kunnā
we were
لَكُمْ your lakum
your
تَبَعًۭا followers tabaʿan
followers
فَهَلْ so can fahal
so can
أَنتُم you (be) antum
you (be)
مُّغْنُونَ the one who avails mugh'nūna
the one who avails
عَنَّا us ʿannā
us
مِنْ from min
from
عَذَابِ (the) punishment ʿadhābi
(the) punishment
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
مِن anything min
anything
شَىْءٍۢ ۚ anything shayin
anything
قَالُوا۟ They will say qālū
They will say
لَوْ If law
If
هَدَىٰنَا Allah had guided us hadānā
Allah had guided us
ٱللَّهُ Allah had guided us l-lahu
Allah had guided us
لَهَدَيْنَـٰكُمْ ۖ surely we would have guided you lahadaynākum
surely we would have guided you
سَوَآءٌ (It is) same sawāon
(It is) same
عَلَيْنَآ for us ʿalaynā
for us
أَجَزِعْنَآ whether we show intolerance ajaziʿ'nā
whether we show intolerance
أَمْ or am
or
صَبَرْنَا we are patient ṣabarnā
we are patient
مَا not
not
لَنَا (is) for us lanā
(is) for us
مِن any min
any
مَّحِيصٍۢ place of escape maḥīṣin
place of escape
٢١ (21)
(21)
And they will come out [for judgement] before Allāh all together, and the weak will say to those who were arrogant, "Indeed, we were your followers, so can you avail us anything against the punishment of Allāh?" They will say, "If Allāh had guided us, we would have guided you. It is all the same for us whether we show intolerance or are patient: there is for us no place of escape."
14:22
وَقَالَ And will say waqāla
And will say
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ the Shaitaan l-shayṭānu
the Shaitaan
لَمَّا when lammā
when
قُضِىَ has been decided quḍiya
has been decided
ٱلْأَمْرُ the matter l-amru
the matter
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
وَعَدَكُمْ promised you waʿadakum
promised you
وَعْدَ a promise waʿda
a promise
ٱلْحَقِّ (of) truth l-ḥaqi
(of) truth
وَوَعَدتُّكُمْ And I promised you wawaʿadttukum
And I promised you
فَأَخْلَفْتُكُمْ ۖ but I betrayed you fa-akhlaftukum
but I betrayed you
وَمَا But not wamā
But not
كَانَ I had kāna
I had
لِىَ I had liya
I had
عَلَيْكُم over you ʿalaykum
over you
مِّن any min
any
سُلْطَـٰنٍ authority sul'ṭānin
authority
إِلَّآ except illā
except
أَن that an
that
دَعَوْتُكُمْ I invited you daʿawtukum
I invited you
فَٱسْتَجَبْتُمْ and you responded fa-is'tajabtum
and you responded
لِى ۖ to me
to me
فَلَا So (do) not falā
So (do) not
تَلُومُونِى blame me talūmūnī
blame me
وَلُومُوٓا۟ but blame walūmū
but blame
أَنفُسَكُم ۖ yourselves anfusakum
yourselves
مَّآ Not
Not
أَنَا۠ (can) I anā
(can) I
بِمُصْرِخِكُمْ (be) your helper bimuṣ'rikhikum
(be) your helper
وَمَآ and not wamā
and not
أَنتُم you (can) antum
you (can)
بِمُصْرِخِىَّ ۖ (be) my helper bimuṣ'rikhiyya
(be) my helper
إِنِّى Indeed, I innī
Indeed, I
كَفَرْتُ deny kafartu
deny
بِمَآ [of what] bimā
[of what]
أَشْرَكْتُمُونِ your association of me (with Allah) ashraktumūni
your association of me (with Allah)
مِن before min
before
قَبْلُ ۗ before qablu
before
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
أَلِيمٌۭ painful alīmun
painful
٢٢ (22)
(22)
And Satan will say when the matter has been concluded, "Indeed, Allāh had promised you the promise of truth. And I promised you, but I betrayed you. But I had no authority over you except that I invited you, and you responded to me. So do not blame me; but blame yourselves. I cannot be called to your aid, nor can you be called to my aid. Indeed, I deny your association of me [with Allāh] before. Indeed, for the wrongdoers is a painful punishment."
14:23
وَأُدْخِلَ And will be admitted wa-ud'khila
And will be admitted
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believed āmanū
believed
وَعَمِلُوا۟ and did waʿamilū
and did
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
جَنَّـٰتٍۢ (to) Gardens jannātin
(to) Gardens
تَجْرِى flows tajrī
flows
مِن from min
from
تَحْتِهَا underneath it taḥtihā
underneath it
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ the rivers l-anhāru
the rivers
خَـٰلِدِينَ (will) abide forever khālidīna
(will) abide forever
فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it
بِإِذْنِ by the permission bi-idh'ni
by the permission
رَبِّهِمْ ۖ (of) their Lord rabbihim
(of) their Lord
تَحِيَّتُهُمْ their greetings taḥiyyatuhum
their greetings
فِيهَا therein fīhā
therein
سَلَـٰمٌ (will be) peace salāmun
(will be) peace
٢٣ (23)
(23)
And those who believed and did righteous deeds will be admitted to gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein by permission of their Lord; and their greeting therein will be, "Peace!"
14:24
أَلَمْ Do not alam
Do not
تَرَ you see tara
you see
كَيْفَ how kayfa
how
ضَرَبَ Allah sets forth ḍaraba
Allah sets forth
ٱللَّهُ Allah sets forth l-lahu
Allah sets forth
مَثَلًۭا the example mathalan
the example
كَلِمَةًۭ a word kalimatan
a word
طَيِّبَةًۭ good ṭayyibatan
good
كَشَجَرَةٍۢ (is) like a tree kashajaratin
(is) like a tree
طَيِّبَةٍ good ṭayyibatin
good
أَصْلُهَا its root aṣluhā
its root
ثَابِتٌۭ (is) firm thābitun
(is) firm
وَفَرْعُهَا and its branches wafarʿuhā
and its branches
فِى (are) in
(are) in
ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky l-samāi
the sky
٢٤ (24)
(24)
Have you not considered how Allāh presents an example, [making] a good word like a good tree, whose root is firmly fixed and its branches [high] in the sky?
14:25
تُؤْتِىٓ Giving tu'tī
Giving
أُكُلَهَا its fruit ukulahā
its fruit
كُلَّ all kulla
all
حِينٍۭ time ḥīnin
time
بِإِذْنِ by the permission bi-idh'ni
by the permission
رَبِّهَا ۗ of its Lord rabbihā
of its Lord
وَيَضْرِبُ And Allah sets forth wayaḍribu
And Allah sets forth
ٱللَّهُ And Allah sets forth l-lahu
And Allah sets forth
ٱلْأَمْثَالَ the examples l-amthāla
the examples
لِلنَّاسِ for mankind lilnnāsi
for mankind
لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may laʿallahum
so that they may
يَتَذَكَّرُونَ remember yatadhakkarūna
remember
٢٥ (25)
(25)
It produces its fruit all the time, by permission of its Lord. And Allāh presents examples for the people that perhaps they will be reminded.
14:26
وَمَثَلُ And (the) example wamathalu
And (the) example
كَلِمَةٍ (of) a word kalimatin
(of) a word
خَبِيثَةٍۢ evil khabīthatin
evil
كَشَجَرَةٍ (is) like a tree kashajaratin
(is) like a tree
خَبِيثَةٍ evil khabīthatin
evil
ٱجْتُثَّتْ uprooted uj'tuthat
uprooted
مِن from min
from
فَوْقِ the surface fawqi
the surface
ٱلْأَرْضِ (of) the earth l-arḍi
(of) the earth
مَا not
not
لَهَا for it lahā
for it
مِن (is) any min
(is) any
قَرَارٍۢ stability qarārin
stability
٢٦ (26)
(26)
And the example of a bad word is like a bad tree, uprooted from the surface of the earth, not having any stability.
14:27
يُثَبِّتُ Allah keeps firm yuthabbitu
Allah keeps firm
ٱللَّهُ Allah keeps firm l-lahu
Allah keeps firm
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
بِٱلْقَوْلِ with the firm word bil-qawli
with the firm word
ٱلثَّابِتِ with the firm word l-thābiti
with the firm word
فِى in
in
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ the life l-ḥayati
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
وَفِى and in wafī
and in
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۖ the Hereafter l-ākhirati
the Hereafter
وَيُضِلُّ And Allah lets go astray wayuḍillu
And Allah lets go astray
ٱللَّهُ And Allah lets go astray l-lahu
And Allah lets go astray
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ ۚ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
وَيَفْعَلُ And Allah does wayafʿalu
And Allah does
ٱللَّهُ And Allah does l-lahu
And Allah does
مَا what
what
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
٢٧ (27)
(27)
Allāh keeps firm those who believe, with the firm word, in worldly life and in the Hereafter. And Allāh sends astray the wrongdoers. And Allāh does what He wills.
14:28
۞ أَلَمْ Have not alam
Have not
تَرَ you seen tara
you seen
إِلَى [to] ilā
[to]
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
بَدَّلُوا۟ (have) changed baddalū
(have) changed
نِعْمَتَ (the) Favor niʿ'mata
(the) Favor
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
كُفْرًۭا (for) disbelief kuf'ran
(for) disbelief
وَأَحَلُّوا۟ and they led wa-aḥallū
and they led
قَوْمَهُمْ their people qawmahum
their people
دَارَ (to the) house dāra
(to the) house
ٱلْبَوَارِ (of) destruction l-bawāri
(of) destruction
٢٨ (28)
(28)
Have you not considered those who exchanged the favor of Allāh for disbelief and settled their people [in] the home of ruin?
14:29
جَهَنَّمَ Hell jahannama
Hell
يَصْلَوْنَهَا ۖ (in) it they will burn yaṣlawnahā
(in) it they will burn
وَبِئْسَ and a wretched wabi'sa
and a wretched
ٱلْقَرَارُ place to settle l-qarāru
place to settle
٢٩ (29)
(29)
[It is] Hell, which they will [enter to] burn, and wretched is the settlement.
14:30
وَجَعَلُوا۟ And they set up wajaʿalū
And they set up
لِلَّهِ to Allah lillahi
to Allah
أَندَادًۭا equals andādan
equals
لِّيُضِلُّوا۟ so that they mislead liyuḍillū
so that they mislead
عَن from ʿan
from
سَبِيلِهِۦ ۗ His Path sabīlihi
His Path
قُلْ Say qul
Say
تَمَتَّعُوا۟ Enjoy tamattaʿū
Enjoy
فَإِنَّ but indeed fa-inna
but indeed
مَصِيرَكُمْ your destination maṣīrakum
your destination
إِلَى (is) to ilā
(is) to
ٱلنَّارِ the Fire l-nāri
the Fire
٣٠ (30)
(30)
And they have attributed to Allāh equals to mislead [people] from His way. Say, "Enjoy yourselves, for indeed, your destination is the Fire."
14:31
قُل Say qul
Say
لِّعِبَادِىَ to My slaves liʿibādiya
to My slaves
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
يُقِيمُوا۟ (to) establish yuqīmū
(to) establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayers l-ṣalata
the prayers
وَيُنفِقُوا۟ and (to) spend wayunfiqū
and (to) spend
مِمَّا from what mimmā
from what
رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ We have provided them razaqnāhum
We have provided them
سِرًّۭا secretly sirran
secretly
وَعَلَانِيَةًۭ and publicly waʿalāniyatan
and publicly
مِّن before min
before
قَبْلِ before qabli
before
أَن [that] an
[that]
يَأْتِىَ comes yatiya
comes
يَوْمٌۭ a Day yawmun
a Day
لَّا not
not
بَيْعٌۭ any trade bayʿun
any trade
فِيهِ in it fīhi
in it
وَلَا and not walā
and not
خِلَـٰلٌ any friendship khilālun
any friendship
٣١ (31)
(31)
[O Muḥammad], tell My servants who have believed to establish prayer and spend from what We have provided them, secretly and publicly, before a Day comes in which there will be no exchange [i.e., ransom], nor any friendships.
14:32
ٱللَّهُ Allah al-lahu
Allah
ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who alladhī
(is) the One Who
خَلَقَ created khalaqa
created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَ and the earth wal-arḍa
and the earth
وَأَنزَلَ and sent down wa-anzala
and sent down
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky l-samāi
the sky
مَآءًۭ water māan
water
فَأَخْرَجَ then brought forth fa-akhraja
then brought forth
بِهِۦ from it bihi
from it
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ the fruits l-thamarāti
the fruits
رِزْقًۭا (as) a provision riz'qan
(as) a provision
لَّكُمْ ۖ for you lakum
for you
وَسَخَّرَ and subjected wasakhara
and subjected
لَكُمُ for you lakumu
for you
ٱلْفُلْكَ the ships l-ful'ka
the ships
لِتَجْرِىَ so that they may sail litajriya
so that they may sail
فِى in
in
ٱلْبَحْرِ the sea l-baḥri
the sea
بِأَمْرِهِۦ ۖ by His command bi-amrihi
by His command
وَسَخَّرَ and subjected wasakhara
and subjected
لَكُمُ for you lakumu
for you
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرَ the rivers l-anhāra
the rivers
٣٢ (32)
(32)
It is Allāh who created the heavens and the earth and sent down rain from the sky and produced thereby some fruits as provision for you and subjected for you the ships to sail through the sea by His command and subjected for you the rivers.
14:33
وَسَخَّرَ And He subjected wasakhara
And He subjected
لَكُمُ for you lakumu
for you
ٱلشَّمْسَ the sun l-shamsa
the sun
وَٱلْقَمَرَ and the moon wal-qamara
and the moon
دَآئِبَيْنِ ۖ both constantly pursuing their courses dāibayni
both constantly pursuing their courses
وَسَخَّرَ and subjected wasakhara
and subjected
لَكُمُ for you lakumu
for you
ٱلَّيْلَ the night al-layla
the night
وَٱلنَّهَارَ and the day wal-nahāra
and the day
٣٣ (33)
(33)
And He subjected for you the sun and the moon, continuous [in orbit], and subjected for you the night and the day.
14:34
وَءَاتَىٰكُم And He gave you waātākum
And He gave you
مِّن of min
of
كُلِّ all kulli
all
مَا what
what
سَأَلْتُمُوهُ ۚ you asked of Him sa-altumūhu
you asked of Him
وَإِن And if wa-in
And if
تَعُدُّوا۟ you count taʿuddū
you count
نِعْمَتَ (the) Favor of Allah niʿ'mata
(the) Favor of Allah
ٱللَّهِ (the) Favor of Allah l-lahi
(the) Favor of Allah
لَا not
not
تُحْصُوهَآ ۗ you will (be able to) count them tuḥ'ṣūhā
you will (be able to) count them
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ the mankind l-insāna
the mankind
لَظَلُومٌۭ (is) surely unjust laẓalūmun
(is) surely unjust
كَفَّارٌۭ (and) ungrateful kaffārun
(and) ungrateful
٣٤ (34)
(34)
And He gave you from all you asked of Him. And if you should count the favor [i.e., blessings] of Allāh, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, mankind is [generally] most unjust and ungrateful.
14:35
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when
قَالَ said qāla
said
إِبْرَٰهِيمُ Ibrahim ib'rāhīmu
Ibrahim
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
ٱجْعَلْ Make ij'ʿal
Make
هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this
ٱلْبَلَدَ city l-balada
city
ءَامِنًۭا safe āminan
safe
وَٱجْنُبْنِى and keep me away wa-uj'nub'nī
and keep me away
وَبَنِىَّ and my sons wabaniyya
and my sons
أَن that an
that
نَّعْبُدَ we worship naʿbuda
we worship
ٱلْأَصْنَامَ the idols l-aṣnāma
the idols
٣٥ (35)
(35)
And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this city [i.e., Makkah] secure and keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols.
14:36
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
إِنَّهُنَّ Indeed, they innahunna
Indeed, they
أَضْلَلْنَ have led astray aḍlalna
have led astray
كَثِيرًۭا many kathīran
many
مِّنَ among mina
among
ٱلنَّاسِ ۖ the mankind l-nāsi
the mankind
فَمَن So whoever faman
So whoever
تَبِعَنِى follows me tabiʿanī
follows me
فَإِنَّهُۥ then indeed, he fa-innahu
then indeed, he
مِنِّى ۖ (is) of me minnī
(is) of me
وَمَنْ and whoever waman
and whoever
عَصَانِى disobeys me ʿaṣānī
disobeys me
فَإِنَّكَ then indeed, You fa-innaka
then indeed, You
غَفُورٌۭ (are) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun
(are) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭ Most Merciful raḥīmun
Most Merciful
٣٦ (36)
(36)
My Lord, indeed they have led astray many among the people. So whoever follows me - then he is of me; and whoever disobeys me - indeed, You are [yet] Forgiving and Merciful.
14:37
رَّبَّنَآ Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord
إِنِّىٓ Indeed, I innī
Indeed, I
أَسْكَنتُ [I] have settled askantu
[I] have settled
مِن (some) of min
(some) of
ذُرِّيَّتِى my offsprings dhurriyyatī
my offsprings
بِوَادٍ in a valley biwādin
in a valley
غَيْرِ not ghayri
not
ذِى with dhī
with
زَرْعٍ cultivation zarʿin
cultivation
عِندَ near ʿinda
near
بَيْتِكَ Your Sacred House baytika
Your Sacred House
ٱلْمُحَرَّمِ Your Sacred House l-muḥarami
Your Sacred House
رَبَّنَا our Lord rabbanā
our Lord
لِيُقِيمُوا۟ That they may establish liyuqīmū
That they may establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayers l-ṣalata
the prayers
فَٱجْعَلْ So make fa-ij'ʿal
So make
أَفْـِٔدَةًۭ hearts afidatan
hearts
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلنَّاسِ the men l-nāsi
the men
تَهْوِىٓ incline tahwī
incline
إِلَيْهِمْ towards them ilayhim
towards them
وَٱرْزُقْهُم and provide them wa-ur'zuq'hum
and provide them
مِّنَ with mina
with
ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ the fruits l-thamarāti
the fruits
لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may laʿallahum
so that they may
يَشْكُرُونَ be grateful yashkurūna
be grateful
٣٧ (37)
(37)
Our Lord, I have settled some of my descendants in an uncultivated valley near Your sacred House, our Lord, that they may establish prayer. So make hearts among the people incline toward them and provide for them from the fruits that they might be grateful.
14:38
رَبَّنَآ Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord
إِنَّكَ Indeed, You innaka
Indeed, You
تَعْلَمُ You know taʿlamu
You know
مَا what
what
نُخْفِى we conceal nukh'fī
we conceal
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
نُعْلِنُ ۗ we proclaim nuʿ'linu
we proclaim
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
يَخْفَىٰ (is) hidden yakhfā
(is) hidden
عَلَى from ʿalā
from
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
مِن any min
any
شَىْءٍۢ thing shayin
thing
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
وَلَا and not walā
and not
فِى in
in
ٱلسَّمَآءِ the heaven l-samāi
the heaven
٣٨ (38)
(38)
Our Lord, indeed You know what we conceal and what we declare, and nothing is hidden from Allāh on the earth or in the heaven.
14:39
ٱلْحَمْدُ All the Praise al-ḥamdu
All the Praise
لِلَّهِ (is) for Allah lillahi
(is) for Allah
ٱلَّذِى the One Who alladhī
the One Who
وَهَبَ has granted wahaba
has granted
لِى me
me
عَلَى in ʿalā
in
ٱلْكِبَرِ the old age l-kibari
the old age
إِسْمَـٰعِيلَ Ishmael is'māʿīla
Ishmael
وَإِسْحَـٰقَ ۚ and Isaac wa-is'ḥāqa
and Isaac
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
رَبِّى my Lord rabbī
my Lord
لَسَمِيعُ (is) All-Hearer lasamīʿu
(is) All-Hearer
ٱلدُّعَآءِ (of) the prayer l-duʿāi
(of) the prayer
٣٩ (39)
(39)
Praise to Allāh, who has granted to me in old age Ishmael and Isaac. Indeed, my Lord is the Hearer of supplication.
14:40
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
ٱجْعَلْنِى Make me ij'ʿalnī
Make me
مُقِيمَ an establisher muqīma
an establisher
ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ (of) the prayer l-ṣalati
(of) the prayer
وَمِن and from wamin
and from
ذُرِّيَّتِى ۚ my offsprings dhurriyyatī
my offsprings
رَبَّنَا Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord
وَتَقَبَّلْ and accept wataqabbal
and accept
دُعَآءِ my prayer duʿāi
my prayer
٤٠ (40)
(40)
My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication.
14:41
رَبَّنَا Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord
ٱغْفِرْ Forgive igh'fir
Forgive
لِى me
me
وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ and my parents waliwālidayya
and my parents
وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ and the believers walil'mu'minīna
and the believers
يَوْمَ (on) the Day yawma
(on) the Day
يَقُومُ will (be) established yaqūmu
will (be) established
ٱلْحِسَابُ the account l-ḥisābu
the account
٤١ (41)
(41)
Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established."
14:42
وَلَا And (do) not walā
And (do) not
تَحْسَبَنَّ think taḥsabanna
think
ٱللَّهَ (that) Allah l-laha
(that) Allah
غَـٰفِلًا (is) unaware ghāfilan
(is) unaware
عَمَّا of what ʿammā
of what
يَعْمَلُ do yaʿmalu
do
ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ۚ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimūna
the wrongdoers
إِنَّمَا Only innamā
Only
يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ He gives them respite yu-akhiruhum
He gives them respite
لِيَوْمٍۢ to a Day liyawmin
to a Day
تَشْخَصُ will stare tashkhaṣu
will stare
فِيهِ in it fīhi
in it
ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ the eyes l-abṣāru
the eyes
٤٢ (42)
(42)
And never think that Allāh is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them [i.e., their account] for a Day when eyes will stare [in horror].
14:43
مُهْطِعِينَ Racing ahead muh'ṭiʿīna
Racing ahead
مُقْنِعِى raised up muq'niʿī
raised up
رُءُوسِهِمْ their heads ruūsihim
their heads
لَا not
not
يَرْتَدُّ returning yartaddu
returning
إِلَيْهِمْ towards them ilayhim
towards them
طَرْفُهُمْ ۖ their gaze ṭarfuhum
their gaze
وَأَفْـِٔدَتُهُمْ and their hearts wa-afidatuhum
and their hearts
هَوَآءٌۭ (are) empty hawāon
(are) empty
٤٣ (43)
(43)
Racing ahead, their heads raised up, their glance does not come back to them, and their hearts are void.
14:44
وَأَنذِرِ And warn wa-andhiri
And warn
ٱلنَّاسَ the mankind l-nāsa
the mankind
يَوْمَ (of) a Day yawma
(of) a Day
يَأْتِيهِمُ (when) will come to them yatīhimu
(when) will come to them
ٱلْعَذَابُ the punishment l-ʿadhābu
the punishment
فَيَقُولُ then will say fayaqūlu
then will say
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ظَلَمُوا۟ did wrong ẓalamū
did wrong
رَبَّنَآ Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord
أَخِّرْنَآ Respite us akhir'nā
Respite us
إِلَىٰٓ for ilā
for
أَجَلٍۢ a term ajalin
a term
قَرِيبٍۢ short qarībin
short
نُّجِبْ we will answer nujib
we will answer
دَعْوَتَكَ Your call daʿwataka
Your call
وَنَتَّبِعِ and we will follow wanattabiʿi
and we will follow
ٱلرُّسُلَ ۗ the Messengers l-rusula
the Messengers
أَوَلَمْ Had not awalam
Had not
تَكُونُوٓا۟ you takūnū
you
أَقْسَمْتُم sworn aqsamtum
sworn
مِّن before min
before
قَبْلُ before qablu
before
مَا not
not
لَكُم for you lakum
for you
مِّن any min
any
زَوَالٍۢ end zawālin
end
٤٤ (44)
(44)
And, [O Muḥammad], warn the people of a Day when the punishment will come to them and those who did wrong will say, "Our Lord, delay us for a short term; we will answer Your call and follow the messengers." [But it will be said], "Had you not sworn, before, that for you there would be no cessation?
14:45
وَسَكَنتُمْ And you dwelt wasakantum
And you dwelt
فِى in
in
مَسَـٰكِنِ the dwellings masākini
the dwellings
ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who alladhīna
(of) those who
ظَلَمُوٓا۟ wronged ẓalamū
wronged
أَنفُسَهُمْ themselves anfusahum
themselves
وَتَبَيَّنَ and it had become clear watabayyana
and it had become clear
لَكُمْ to you lakum
to you
كَيْفَ how kayfa
how
فَعَلْنَا We dealt faʿalnā
We dealt
بِهِمْ with them bihim
with them
وَضَرَبْنَا and We put forth waḍarabnā
and We put forth
لَكُمُ for you lakumu
for you
ٱلْأَمْثَالَ the examples l-amthāla
the examples
٤٥ (45)
(45)
And you lived among the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, and it had become clear to you how We dealt with them. And We presented for you [many] examples."
14:46
وَقَدْ And indeed waqad
And indeed
مَكَرُوا۟ they planned makarū
they planned
مَكْرَهُمْ their plan makrahum
their plan
وَعِندَ but with waʿinda
but with
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
مَكْرُهُمْ (was) their plan makruhum
(was) their plan
وَإِن even if wa-in
even if
كَانَ was kāna
was
مَكْرُهُمْ their plan makruhum
their plan
لِتَزُولَ that should be moved litazūla
that should be moved
مِنْهُ by it min'hu
by it
ٱلْجِبَالُ the mountains l-jibālu
the mountains
٤٦ (46)
(46)
And they had planned their plan, but with Allāh is [recorded] their plan, even if their plan had been [sufficient] to do away with the mountains.
14:47
فَلَا So (do) not falā
So (do) not
تَحْسَبَنَّ think taḥsabanna
think
ٱللَّهَ (that) Allah l-laha
(that) Allah
مُخْلِفَ will fail mukh'lifa
will fail
وَعْدِهِۦ (to) keep His Promise waʿdihi
(to) keep His Promise
رُسُلَهُۥٓ ۗ (to) His Messengers rusulahu
(to) His Messengers
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
عَزِيزٌۭ (is) All-Mighty ʿazīzun
(is) All-Mighty
ذُو Owner (of) Retribution dhū
Owner (of) Retribution
ٱنتِقَامٍۢ Owner (of) Retribution intiqāmin
Owner (of) Retribution
٤٧ (47)
(47)
So never think that Allāh will fail in His promise to His messengers. Indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Owner of Retribution.
14:48
يَوْمَ (On the) Day yawma
(On the) Day
تُبَدَّلُ will be changed tubaddalu
will be changed
ٱلْأَرْضُ the earth l-arḍu
the earth
غَيْرَ (to) other (than) ghayra
(to) other (than)
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
وَٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ ۖ and the heavens wal-samāwātu
and the heavens
وَبَرَزُوا۟ and they will come forth wabarazū
and they will come forth
لِلَّهِ before Allah lillahi
before Allah
ٱلْوَٰحِدِ the One l-wāḥidi
the One
ٱلْقَهَّارِ the Irresistible l-qahāri
the Irresistible
٤٨ (48)
(48)
[It will be] on the Day the earth will be replaced by another earth, and the heavens [as well], and they [i.e., all creatures] will come out before Allāh, the One, the Prevailing,
14:49
وَتَرَى And you will see watarā
And you will see
ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ the criminals l-muj'rimīna
the criminals
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ (on) that Day yawma-idhin
(on) that Day
مُّقَرَّنِينَ bound together muqarranīna
bound together
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَصْفَادِ the chains l-aṣfādi
the chains
٤٩ (49)
(49)
And you will see the criminals that Day bound together in irons,
14:50
سَرَابِيلُهُم Their garments sarābīluhum
Their garments
مِّن of min
of
قَطِرَانٍۢ tar qaṭirānin
tar
وَتَغْشَىٰ and will cover wataghshā
and will cover
وُجُوهَهُمُ their faces wujūhahumu
their faces
ٱلنَّارُ the Fire l-nāru
the Fire
٥٠ (50)
(50)
Their garments of liquid pitch and their faces covered by the Fire
14:51
لِيَجْزِىَ So that Allah may recompense liyajziya
So that Allah may recompense
ٱللَّهُ So that Allah may recompense l-lahu
So that Allah may recompense
كُلَّ each kulla
each
نَفْسٍۢ soul nafsin
soul
مَّا (for) what
(for) what
كَسَبَتْ ۚ it earned kasabat
it earned
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
سَرِيعُ (is) Swift sarīʿu
(is) Swift
ٱلْحِسَابِ (in) the reckoning l-ḥisābi
(in) the reckoning
٥١ (51)
(51)
So that Allāh will recompense every soul for what it earned. Indeed, Allāh is swift in account.
14:52
هَـٰذَا This hādhā
This
بَلَـٰغٌۭ (is) a Message balāghun
(is) a Message
لِّلنَّاسِ for the mankind lilnnāsi
for the mankind
وَلِيُنذَرُوا۟ that they may be warned waliyundharū
that they may be warned
بِهِۦ with it bihi
with it
وَلِيَعْلَمُوٓا۟ and that they may know waliyaʿlamū
and that they may know
أَنَّمَا that only annamā
that only
هُوَ He huwa
He
إِلَـٰهٌۭ (is) One God ilāhun
(is) One God
وَٰحِدٌۭ (is) One God wāḥidun
(is) One God
وَلِيَذَّكَّرَ and that may take heed waliyadhakkara
and that may take heed
أُو۟لُوا۟ men ulū
men
ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ (of) understanding l-albābi
(of) understanding
٥٢ (52)
(52)
This [Qur’ān] is notification for the people that they may be warned thereby and that they may know that He is but one God and that those of understanding will be reminded.
