بِسْمِ In (the) name bis'mi
In (the) name
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
13:1
الٓمٓر ۚ Alif Laam Mim Ra alif-lam-meem-ra
Alif Laam Mim Ra
تِلْكَ These til'ka
These
ءَايَـٰتُ (are) the Verses āyātu
(are) the Verses
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ۗ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book
وَٱلَّذِىٓ And that which wa-alladhī
And that which
أُنزِلَ has been revealed unzila
has been revealed
إِلَيْكَ to you ilayka
to you
مِن from min
from
رَّبِّكَ your Lord rabbika
your Lord
ٱلْحَقُّ (is) the truth l-ḥaqu
(is) the truth
وَلَـٰكِنَّ but walākinna
but
أَكْثَرَ most akthara
most
ٱلنَّاسِ (of) the mankind l-nāsi
(of) the mankind
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يُؤْمِنُونَ believe yu'minūna
believe
١ (1)
(1)
Alif, Lām, Meem, Rā. These are the verses of the Book; and what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth, but most of the people do not believe.
13:2
ٱللَّهُ Allah al-lahu
Allah
ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who alladhī
(is) the One Who
رَفَعَ raised rafaʿa
raised
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
بِغَيْرِ without bighayri
without
عَمَدٍۢ pillars ʿamadin
pillars
تَرَوْنَهَا ۖ that you see tarawnahā
that you see
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
ٱسْتَوَىٰ He established is'tawā
He established
عَلَى on ʿalā
on
ٱلْعَرْشِ ۖ the Throne l-ʿarshi
the Throne
وَسَخَّرَ and subjected wasakhara
and subjected
ٱلشَّمْسَ the sun l-shamsa
the sun
وَٱلْقَمَرَ ۖ and the moon wal-qamara
and the moon
كُلٌّۭ each kullun
each
يَجْرِى running yajrī
running
لِأَجَلٍۢ for a term li-ajalin
for a term
مُّسَمًّۭى ۚ appointed musamman
appointed
يُدَبِّرُ He arranges yudabbiru
He arranges
ٱلْأَمْرَ the matter l-amra
the matter
يُفَصِّلُ He details yufaṣṣilu
He details
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ the Signs l-āyāti
the Signs
لَعَلَّكُم so that you may laʿallakum
so that you may
بِلِقَآءِ in the meeting biliqāi
in the meeting
رَبِّكُمْ (with) your Lord rabbikum
(with) your Lord
تُوقِنُونَ believe with certainty tūqinūna
believe with certainty
٢ (2)
(2)
It is Allāh who erected the heavens without pillars that you [can] see; then He established Himself above the Throne and made subject the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term. He arranges [each] matter; He details the signs that you may, of the meeting with your Lord, be certain.
13:3
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who alladhī
(is) the One Who
مَدَّ spread madda
spread
ٱلْأَرْضَ the earth l-arḍa
the earth
وَجَعَلَ and placed wajaʿala
and placed
فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it
رَوَٰسِىَ firm mountains rawāsiya
firm mountains
وَأَنْهَـٰرًۭا ۖ and rivers wa-anhāran
and rivers
وَمِن and from wamin
and from
كُلِّ all kulli
all
ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ (of) the fruits l-thamarāti
(of) the fruits
جَعَلَ He made jaʿala
He made
فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it
زَوْجَيْنِ pairs zawjayni
pairs
ٱثْنَيْنِ ۖ two ith'nayni
two
يُغْشِى He covers yugh'shī
He covers
ٱلَّيْلَ the night al-layla
the night
ٱلنَّهَارَ ۚ (with) the day l-nahāra
(with) the day
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
فِى in
in
ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) Signs laāyātin
surely (are) Signs
لِّقَوْمٍۢ for a people liqawmin
for a people
يَتَفَكَّرُونَ who ponder yatafakkarūna
who ponder
٣ (3)
(3)
And it is He who spread the earth and placed therein firmly set mountains and rivers; and from all of the fruits He made therein two mates; He causes the night to cover the day. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.
13:4
وَفِى And in wafī
And in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
قِطَعٌۭ are tracks qiṭaʿun
are tracks
مُّتَجَـٰوِرَٰتٌۭ neighboring mutajāwirātun
neighboring
وَجَنَّـٰتٌۭ and gardens wajannātun
and gardens
مِّنْ of min
of
أَعْنَـٰبٍۢ grapevines aʿnābin
grapevines
وَزَرْعٌۭ and crops wazarʿun
and crops
وَنَخِيلٌۭ and date-palms wanakhīlun
and date-palms
صِنْوَانٌۭ trees (growing) from a single root ṣin'wānun
trees (growing) from a single root
وَغَيْرُ and not waghayru
and not
صِنْوَانٍۢ trees (growing) from a single root ṣin'wānin
trees (growing) from a single root
يُسْقَىٰ watered yus'qā
watered
بِمَآءٍۢ with water bimāin
with water
وَٰحِدٍۢ one wāḥidin
one
وَنُفَضِّلُ but We cause to exceed wanufaḍḍilu
but We cause to exceed
بَعْضَهَا some of them baʿḍahā
some of them
عَلَىٰ over ʿalā
over
بَعْضٍۢ others baʿḍin
others
فِى in
in
ٱلْأُكُلِ ۚ the fruit l-ukuli
the fruit
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
فِى in
in
ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) Signs laāyātin
surely (are) Signs
لِّقَوْمٍۢ for a people liqawmin
for a people
يَعْقِلُونَ who use reason yaʿqilūna
who use reason
٤ (4)
(4)
And within the land are neighboring plots and gardens of grapevines and crops and palm trees, [growing] several from a root or otherwise, watered with one water; but We make some of them exceed others in [quality of] fruit. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason.
13:5
۞ وَإِن And if wa-in
And if
تَعْجَبْ you (are) astonished taʿjab
you (are) astonished
فَعَجَبٌۭ then astonishing faʿajabun
then astonishing
قَوْلُهُمْ (is) their saying qawluhum
(is) their saying
أَءِذَا When a-idhā
When
كُنَّا we are kunnā
we are
تُرَٰبًا dust turāban
dust
أَءِنَّا will we a-innā
will we
لَفِى (be) indeed, in lafī
(be) indeed, in
خَلْقٍۢ a creation khalqin
a creation
جَدِيدٍ ۗ new jadīdin
new
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
ٱلَّذِينَ (are) the ones who alladhīna
(are) the ones who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved
بِرَبِّهِمْ ۖ in their Lord birabbihim
in their Lord
وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ and those wa-ulāika
and those
ٱلْأَغْلَـٰلُ the iron chains l-aghlālu
the iron chains
فِىٓ (will be) in
(will be) in
أَعْنَاقِهِمْ ۖ their necks aʿnāqihim
their necks
وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those wa-ulāika
those
أَصْحَـٰبُ (are the) companions aṣḥābu
(are the) companions
ٱلنَّارِ ۖ (of) the Fire l-nāri
(of) the Fire
هُمْ they hum
they
فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it
خَـٰلِدُونَ (will) abide forever khālidūna
(will) abide forever
٥ (5)
(5)
And if you are astonished, [O Muḥammad] - then astonishing is their saying, "When we are dust, will we indeed be [brought] into a new creation?" Those are the ones who have disbelieved in their Lord, and those will have shackles upon their necks, and those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.
13:6
وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ And they ask you to hasten wayastaʿjilūnaka
And they ask you to hasten
بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ the evil bil-sayi-ati
the evil
قَبْلَ before qabla
before
ٱلْحَسَنَةِ the good l-ḥasanati
the good
وَقَدْ and verily waqad
and verily
خَلَتْ has occurred khalat
has occurred
مِن from min
from
قَبْلِهِمُ before them qablihimu
before them
ٱلْمَثُلَـٰتُ ۗ [the] similar punishments l-mathulātu
[the] similar punishments
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
رَبَّكَ your Lord rabbaka
your Lord
لَذُو (is) full ladhū
(is) full
مَغْفِرَةٍۢ (of) forgiveness maghfiratin
(of) forgiveness
لِّلنَّاسِ for mankind lilnnāsi
for mankind
عَلَىٰ for ʿalā
for
ظُلْمِهِمْ ۖ their wrongdoing ẓul'mihim
their wrongdoing
وَإِنَّ and indeed wa-inna
and indeed
رَبَّكَ your Lord rabbaka
your Lord
لَشَدِيدُ (is) severe lashadīdu
(is) severe
ٱلْعِقَابِ (in) the penalty l-ʿiqābi
(in) the penalty
٦ (6)
(6)
They impatiently urge you to bring about evil before good, while there has already occurred before them similar punishments [to what they demand]. And indeed, your Lord is the possessor of forgiveness for the people despite their wrongdoing, and indeed, your Lord is severe in penalty.
13:7
وَيَقُولُ And say wayaqūlu
And say
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved
لَوْلَآ Why not lawlā
Why not
أُنزِلَ has been sent down unzila
has been sent down
عَلَيْهِ to him ʿalayhi
to him
ءَايَةٌۭ a sign āyatun
a sign
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّهِۦٓ ۗ his Lord rabbihi
his Lord
إِنَّمَآ Only innamā
Only
أَنتَ you anta
you
مُنذِرٌۭ ۖ (are) a warner mundhirun
(are) a warner
وَلِكُلِّ and for every walikulli
and for every
قَوْمٍ people qawmin
people
هَادٍ (is) a guide hādin
(is) a guide
٧ (7)
(7)
And those who disbelieved say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?" You are only a warner, and for every people is a guide.
13:8
ٱللَّهُ Allah al-lahu
Allah
يَعْلَمُ knows yaʿlamu
knows
مَا what
what
تَحْمِلُ carries taḥmilu
carries
كُلُّ every kullu
every
أُنثَىٰ female unthā
female
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
تَغِيضُ fall short taghīḍu
fall short
ٱلْأَرْحَامُ the womb l-arḥāmu
the womb
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
تَزْدَادُ ۖ they exceed tazdādu
they exceed
وَكُلُّ And every wakullu
And every
شَىْءٍ thing shayin
thing
عِندَهُۥ with Him ʿindahu
with Him
بِمِقْدَارٍ (is) in due proportion bimiq'dārin
(is) in due proportion
٨ (8)
(8)
Allāh knows what every female carries and what the wombs lose [prematurely] or exceed. And everything with Him is by due measure.
13:9
عَـٰلِمُ Knower ʿālimu
Knower
ٱلْغَيْبِ (of) the unseen l-ghaybi
(of) the unseen
وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ and the witnessed wal-shahādati
and the witnessed
ٱلْكَبِيرُ the Most Great l-kabīru
the Most Great
ٱلْمُتَعَالِ the Most High l-mutaʿāli
the Most High
٩ (9)
(9)
[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, the Grand, the Exalted.
13:10
سَوَآءٌۭ (It is) same (to Him) sawāon
(It is) same (to Him)
مِّنكُم [of you] minkum
[of you]
مَّنْ (one) who man
(one) who
أَسَرَّ conceals asarra
conceals
ٱلْقَوْلَ the speech l-qawla
the speech
وَمَن or (one) who waman
or (one) who
جَهَرَ publicizes jahara
publicizes
بِهِۦ it bihi
it
وَمَنْ and (one) who waman
and (one) who
هُوَ [he] huwa
[he]
مُسْتَخْفٍۭ (is) hidden mus'takhfin
(is) hidden
بِٱلَّيْلِ by night bi-al-layli
by night
وَسَارِبٌۢ or goes freely wasāribun
or goes freely
بِٱلنَّهَارِ by day bil-nahāri
by day
١٠ (10)
(10)
It is the same [to Him] concerning you whether one conceals [his] speech or publicizes it and whether one is hidden by night or conspicuous [among others] by day.
13:11
لَهُۥ For him lahu
For him
مُعَقِّبَـٰتٌۭ (are) successive (Angels) muʿaqqibātun
(are) successive (Angels)
مِّنۢ from min
from
بَيْنِ (before) bayni
(before)
يَدَيْهِ (him) yadayhi
(him)
وَمِنْ and from wamin
and from
خَلْفِهِۦ and behind him khalfihi
and behind him
يَحْفَظُونَهُۥ who guard him yaḥfaẓūnahu
who guard him
مِنْ by min
by
أَمْرِ (the) command amri
(the) command
ٱللَّهِ ۗ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
لَا (does) not
(does) not
يُغَيِّرُ change yughayyiru
change
مَا (the condition)
(the condition)
بِقَوْمٍ of a people biqawmin
of a people
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
يُغَيِّرُوا۟ they change yughayyirū
they change
مَا what
what
بِأَنفُسِهِمْ ۗ (is) in themselves bi-anfusihim
(is) in themselves
وَإِذَآ And when wa-idhā
And when
أَرَادَ wills arāda
wills
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
بِقَوْمٍۢ for a people biqawmin
for a people
سُوٓءًۭا misfortune sūan
misfortune
فَلَا then (there is) no falā
then (there is) no
مَرَدَّ turning away maradda
turning away
لَهُۥ ۚ of it lahu
of it
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
لَهُم for them lahum
for them
مِّن from min
from
دُونِهِۦ besides Him dūnihi
besides Him
مِن any min
any
وَالٍ protector wālin
protector
١١ (11)
(11)
For him [i.e., each one] are successive [angels]1 before and behind him who protect him by the decree of Allāh. Indeed, Allāh will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. And when Allāh intends for a people ill, there is no repelling it. And there is not for them besides Him any patron.
13:12
هُوَ He huwa
He
ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who alladhī
(is) the One Who
يُرِيكُمُ shows you yurīkumu
shows you
ٱلْبَرْقَ the lightning l-barqa
the lightning
خَوْفًۭا a fear khawfan
a fear
وَطَمَعًۭا and a hope waṭamaʿan
and a hope
وَيُنشِئُ and brings up wayunshi-u
and brings up
ٱلسَّحَابَ the clouds l-saḥāba
the clouds
ٱلثِّقَالَ the heavy l-thiqāla
the heavy
١٢ (12)
(12)
It is He who shows you lightning, [causing] fear and aspiration, and generates the heavy clouds.
13:13
وَيُسَبِّحُ And glorifies wayusabbiḥu
And glorifies
ٱلرَّعْدُ the thunder l-raʿdu
the thunder
بِحَمْدِهِۦ with his praise biḥamdihi
with his praise
وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ and the Angels wal-malāikatu
and the Angels
مِنْ for min
for
خِيفَتِهِۦ fear of Him khīfatihi
fear of Him
وَيُرْسِلُ And He sends wayur'silu
And He sends
ٱلصَّوَٰعِقَ the thunderbolts l-ṣawāʿiqa
the thunderbolts
فَيُصِيبُ and strikes fayuṣību
and strikes
بِهَا with it bihā
with it
مَن whom man
whom
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
وَهُمْ yet they wahum
yet they
يُجَـٰدِلُونَ dispute yujādilūna
dispute
فِى about
about
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
شَدِيدُ (is) Mighty shadīdu
(is) Mighty
ٱلْمِحَالِ (in) Strength l-miḥāli
(in) Strength
١٣ (13)
(13)
And the thunder exalts [Allāh] with praise of Him - and the angels [as well] from fear of Him - and He sends thunderbolts and strikes therewith whom He wills while they dispute about Allāh; and He is severe in assault.
13:14
لَهُۥ To Him lahu
To Him
دَعْوَةُ (is) supplication daʿwatu
(is) supplication
ٱلْحَقِّ ۖ (of) the truth l-ḥaqi
(of) the truth
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those whom wa-alladhīna
And those whom
يَدْعُونَ they invoke yadʿūna
they invoke
مِن besides Him min
besides Him
دُونِهِۦ besides Him dūnihi
besides Him
لَا not
not
يَسْتَجِيبُونَ they respond yastajībūna
they respond
لَهُم to them lahum
to them
بِشَىْءٍ with a thing bishayin
with a thing
إِلَّا except illā
except
كَبَـٰسِطِ like one who stretches kabāsiṭi
like one who stretches
كَفَّيْهِ his hands kaffayhi
his hands
إِلَى towards ilā
towards
ٱلْمَآءِ water l-māi
water
لِيَبْلُغَ to reach liyablugha
to reach
فَاهُ his mouth fāhu
his mouth
وَمَا but not wamā
but not
هُوَ it huwa
it
بِبَـٰلِغِهِۦ ۚ reaches it bibālighihi
reaches it
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
دُعَآءُ (is) the supplication duʿāu
(is) the supplication
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ (of) the disbelievers l-kāfirīna
(of) the disbelievers
إِلَّا but illā
but
فِى in
in
ضَلَـٰلٍۢ error ḍalālin
error
١٤ (14)
(14)
To Him [alone] is the supplication of truth. And those they call upon besides Him do not respond to them with a thing, except as one who stretches his hands toward water [from afar, calling it] to reach his mouth, but it will not reach it [thus]. And the supplication of the disbelievers is not but in error [i.e., futility].
13:15
وَلِلَّهِ And to Allah walillahi
And to Allah
يَسْجُدُ prostrates yasjudu
prostrates
مَن whoever man
whoever
فِى (is) in
(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
طَوْعًۭا willingly ṭawʿan
willingly
وَكَرْهًۭا or unwillingly wakarhan
or unwillingly
وَظِلَـٰلُهُم and (so do) their shadows waẓilāluhum
and (so do) their shadows
بِٱلْغُدُوِّ in the mornings bil-ghuduwi
in the mornings
وَٱلْـَٔاصَالِ ۩ and in the afternoons wal-āṣāli
and in the afternoons
١٥ (15)
(15)
And to Allāh prostrates whoever is within the heavens and the earth, willingly or by compulsion, and their shadows [as well] in the mornings and the afternoons.
13:16
قُلْ Say qul
Say
مَن Who man
Who
رَّبُّ (is) the Lord rabbu
(is) the Lord
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
قُلِ Say quli
Say
ٱللَّهُ ۚ Allah l-lahu
Allah
قُلْ Say qul
Say
أَفَٱتَّخَذْتُم Have you then taken afa-ittakhadhtum
Have you then taken
مِّن from min
from
دُونِهِۦٓ besides Him dūnihi
besides Him
أَوْلِيَآءَ protectors awliyāa
protectors
لَا not
not
يَمْلِكُونَ they have power yamlikūna
they have power
لِأَنفُسِهِمْ for themselves li-anfusihim
for themselves
نَفْعًۭا (to) benefit nafʿan
(to) benefit
وَلَا and not walā
and not
ضَرًّۭا ۚ (to) harm ḍarran
(to) harm
قُلْ Say qul
Say
هَلْ Is hal
Is
يَسْتَوِى equal yastawī
equal
ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ the blind l-aʿmā
the blind
وَٱلْبَصِيرُ and the seeing wal-baṣīru
and the seeing
أَمْ Or am
Or
هَلْ is hal
is
تَسْتَوِى equal tastawī
equal
ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتُ the darkness[es] l-ẓulumātu
the darkness[es]
وَٱلنُّورُ ۗ and the light wal-nūru
and the light
أَمْ Or am
Or
جَعَلُوا۟ they attribute jaʿalū
they attribute
لِلَّهِ to Allah lillahi
to Allah
شُرَكَآءَ partners shurakāa
partners
خَلَقُوا۟ who created khalaqū
who created
كَخَلْقِهِۦ like His creation kakhalqihi
like His creation
فَتَشَـٰبَهَ so that seemed alike fatashābaha
so that seemed alike
ٱلْخَلْقُ the creation l-khalqu
the creation
عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ to them ʿalayhim
to them
قُلِ Say quli
Say
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
خَـٰلِقُ (is) the Creator khāliqu
(is) the Creator
كُلِّ of all kulli
of all
شَىْءٍۢ things shayin
things
وَهُوَ and He wahuwa
and He
ٱلْوَٰحِدُ (is) the One l-wāḥidu
(is) the One
ٱلْقَهَّـٰرُ the Irresistible l-qahāru
the Irresistible
١٦ (16)
(16)
Say, "Who is Lord of the heavens and earth?" Say, "Allāh." Say, "Have you then taken besides Him allies not possessing [even] for themselves any benefit or any harm?" Say, "Is the blind equivalent to the seeing? Or is darkness equivalent to light? Or have they attributed to Allāh partners who created like His creation so that the creation [of each] seemed similar to them?"1 Say, "Allāh is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Prevailing."2
13:17
أَنزَلَ He sends down anzala
He sends down
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky l-samāi
the sky
مَآءًۭ water māan
water
فَسَالَتْ and flows fasālat
and flows
أَوْدِيَةٌۢ the valleys awdiyatun
the valleys
بِقَدَرِهَا according to their measure biqadarihā
according to their measure
فَٱحْتَمَلَ and carries fa-iḥ'tamala
and carries
ٱلسَّيْلُ the torrent l-saylu
the torrent
زَبَدًۭا a foam zabadan
a foam
رَّابِيًۭا ۚ rising rābiyan
rising
وَمِمَّا And from what wamimmā
And from what
يُوقِدُونَ they heat yūqidūna
they heat
عَلَيْهِ [on] it ʿalayhi
[on] it
فِى in
in
ٱلنَّارِ the fire l-nāri
the fire
ٱبْتِغَآءَ in order to make ib'tighāa
in order to make
حِلْيَةٍ ornaments ḥil'yatin
ornaments
أَوْ or aw
or
مَتَـٰعٍۢ utensils matāʿin
utensils
زَبَدٌۭ a foam zabadun
a foam
مِّثْلُهُۥ ۚ like it mith'luhu
like it
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika
Thus
يَضْرِبُ sets forth yaḍribu
sets forth
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
ٱلْحَقَّ the truth l-ḥaqa
the truth
وَٱلْبَـٰطِلَ ۚ and the falsehood wal-bāṭila
and the falsehood
فَأَمَّا Then as for fa-ammā
Then as for
ٱلزَّبَدُ the foam l-zabadu
the foam
فَيَذْهَبُ it passes away fayadhhabu
it passes away
جُفَآءًۭ ۖ (as) scum jufāan
(as) scum
وَأَمَّا and as for wa-ammā
and as for
مَا what
what
يَنفَعُ benefits yanfaʿu
benefits
ٱلنَّاسَ the mankind l-nāsa
the mankind
فَيَمْكُثُ remains fayamkuthu
remains
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika
Thus
يَضْرِبُ Allah sets forth yaḍribu
Allah sets forth
ٱللَّهُ Allah sets forth l-lahu
Allah sets forth
ٱلْأَمْثَالَ the examples l-amthāla
the examples
١٧ (17)
(17)
He sends down from the sky, rain, and valleys flow according to their capacity, and the torrent carries a rising foam. And from that [ore] which they heat in the fire, desiring adornments and utensils, is a foam like it. Thus Allāh presents [the example of] truth and falsehood. As for the foam, it vanishes, [being] cast off; but as for that which benefits the people, it remains on the earth. Thus does Allāh present examples.
13:18
لِلَّذِينَ For those who lilladhīna
For those who
ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟ responded is'tajābū
responded
لِرَبِّهِمُ to their Lord lirabbihimu
to their Lord
ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ (is) the bliss l-ḥus'nā
(is) the bliss
وَٱلَّذِينَ And for those who wa-alladhīna
And for those who
لَمْ (did) not lam
(did) not
يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ respond yastajībū
respond
لَهُۥ to Him lahu
to Him
لَوْ if law
if
أَنَّ that anna
that
لَهُم they had lahum
they had
مَّا whatever
whatever
فِى (is) in
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
جَمِيعًۭا all jamīʿan
all
وَمِثْلَهُۥ and like of it wamith'lahu
and like of it
مَعَهُۥ with it maʿahu
with it
لَٱفْتَدَوْا۟ surely they would offer ransom la-if'tadaw
surely they would offer ransom
بِهِۦٓ ۚ with it bihi
with it
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
سُوٓءُ (is) a terrible sūu
(is) a terrible
ٱلْحِسَابِ reckoning l-ḥisābi
reckoning
وَمَأْوَىٰهُمْ and their abode wamawāhum
and their abode
جَهَنَّمُ ۖ (is) Hell jahannamu
(is) Hell
وَبِئْسَ and wretched wabi'sa
and wretched
ٱلْمِهَادُ (is) the resting place l-mihādu
(is) the resting place
١٨ (18)
(18)
For those who have responded to their Lord is the best [reward], but those who did not respond to Him - if they had all that is in the earth entirely and the like of it with it, they would [attempt to] ransom themselves thereby. Those will have the worst account, and their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the resting place.
13:19
۞ أَفَمَن Then is (he) who afaman
Then is (he) who
يَعْلَمُ knows yaʿlamu
knows
أَنَّمَآ that which annamā
that which
أُنزِلَ has been revealed unzila
has been revealed
إِلَيْكَ to you ilayka
to you
مِن from min
from
رَّبِّكَ your Lord rabbika
your Lord
ٱلْحَقُّ (is) the truth l-ḥaqu
(is) the truth
كَمَنْ like (one) who kaman
like (one) who
هُوَ [he] huwa
[he]
أَعْمَىٰٓ ۚ (is) blind aʿmā
(is) blind
إِنَّمَا Only innamā
Only
يَتَذَكَّرُ pay heed yatadhakkaru
pay heed
أُو۟لُوا۟ men ulū
men
ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ (of) understanding l-albābi
(of) understanding
١٩ (19)
(19)
Then is he who knows that what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth like one who is blind? They will only be reminded who are people of understanding -
13:20
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who
يُوفُونَ fulfill yūfūna
fulfill
بِعَهْدِ the covenant biʿahdi
the covenant
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
وَلَا and not walā
and not
يَنقُضُونَ they break yanquḍūna
they break
ٱلْمِيثَـٰقَ the contract l-mīthāqa
the contract
٢٠ (20)
(20)
Those who fulfill the covenant of Allāh and do not break the contract,
13:21
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
يَصِلُونَ join yaṣilūna
join
مَآ what
what
أَمَرَ (has been) commanded amara
(has been) commanded
ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah l-lahu
(by) Allah
بِهِۦٓ [for it] bihi
[for it]
أَن to an
to
يُوصَلَ be joined yūṣala
be joined
وَيَخْشَوْنَ and fear wayakhshawna
and fear
رَبَّهُمْ their Lord rabbahum
their Lord
وَيَخَافُونَ and are afraid wayakhāfūna
and are afraid
سُوٓءَ (of) the evil sūa
(of) the evil
ٱلْحِسَابِ the account l-ḥisābi
the account
٢١ (21)
(21)
And those who join that which Allāh has ordered to be joined and fear their Lord and are afraid of the evil of [their] account,
13:22
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
صَبَرُوا۟ (are) patient ṣabarū
(are) patient
ٱبْتِغَآءَ seeking ib'tighāa
seeking
وَجْهِ (the) Face wajhi
(the) Face
رَبِّهِمْ (of) their Lord rabbihim
(of) their Lord
وَأَقَامُوا۟ and establish wa-aqāmū
and establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer l-ṣalata
the prayer
وَأَنفَقُوا۟ and spend wa-anfaqū
and spend
مِمَّا from what mimmā
from what
رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ We have provided them razaqnāhum
We have provided them
سِرًّۭا secretly sirran
secretly
وَعَلَانِيَةًۭ and publicly waʿalāniyatan
and publicly
وَيَدْرَءُونَ and they repel wayadraūna
and they repel
بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ with the good bil-ḥasanati
with the good
ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ the evil l-sayi-ata
the evil
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those ulāika
those
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
عُقْبَى (is) the final attainment ʿuq'bā
(is) the final attainment
ٱلدَّارِ (of) the Home l-dāri
(of) the Home
٢٢ (22)
(22)
And those who are patient, seeking the face [i.e., acceptance] of their Lord, and establish prayer and spend from what We have provided for them secretly and publicly and prevent evil with good - those will have the good consequence of [this] home -
13:23
جَنَّـٰتُ Gardens jannātu
Gardens
عَدْنٍۢ of Eden ʿadnin
of Eden
يَدْخُلُونَهَا they will enter them yadkhulūnahā
they will enter them
وَمَن and whoever waman
and whoever
صَلَحَ (were) righteous ṣalaḥa
(were) righteous
مِنْ among min
among
ءَابَآئِهِمْ their fathers ābāihim
their fathers
وَأَزْوَٰجِهِمْ and their spouses wa-azwājihim
and their spouses
وَذُرِّيَّـٰتِهِمْ ۖ and their offsprings wadhurriyyātihim
and their offsprings
وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ And the Angels wal-malāikatu
And the Angels
يَدْخُلُونَ will enter yadkhulūna
will enter
عَلَيْهِم upon them ʿalayhim
upon them
مِّن from min
from
كُلِّ every kulli
every
بَابٍۢ gate bābin
gate
٢٣ (23)
(23)
Gardens of perpetual residence; they will enter them with whoever were righteous among their forefathers, their spouses and their descendants. And the angels will enter upon them from every gate, [saying],
13:24
سَلَـٰمٌ (Saying), "Peace salāmun
(Saying), "Peace
عَلَيْكُم (be) upon you ʿalaykum
(be) upon you
بِمَا for what bimā
for what
صَبَرْتُمْ ۚ you patiently endured ṣabartum
you patiently endured
فَنِعْمَ And excellent faniʿ'ma
And excellent
عُقْبَى (is) the final attainment ʿuq'bā
(is) the final attainment
ٱلدَّارِ (of) the Home l-dāri
(of) the Home
٢٤ (24)
(24)
"Peace [i.e., security] be upon you for what you patiently endured. And excellent is the final home."
13:25
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
يَنقُضُونَ break yanquḍūna
break
عَهْدَ the covenant ʿahda
the covenant
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
مِنۢ from min
from
بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after
مِيثَـٰقِهِۦ contracting it mīthāqihi
contracting it
وَيَقْطَعُونَ and sever wayaqṭaʿūna
and sever
مَآ what
what
أَمَرَ (has been) commanded amara
(has been) commanded
ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah l-lahu
(by) Allah
بِهِۦٓ for it bihi
for it
أَن to an
to
يُوصَلَ be joined yūṣala
be joined
وَيُفْسِدُونَ and spread corruption wayuf'sidūna
and spread corruption
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۙ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
لَهُمُ for them lahumu
for them
ٱللَّعْنَةُ (is) the curse l-laʿnatu
(is) the curse
وَلَهُمْ and for them walahum
and for them
سُوٓءُ (is) an evil sūu
(is) an evil
ٱلدَّارِ home l-dāri
home
٢٥ (25)
(25)
But those who break the covenant of Allāh after contracting it and sever that which Allāh has ordered to be joined and spread corruption on earth - for them is the curse, and they will have the worst home.
13:26
ٱللَّهُ Allah al-lahu
Allah
يَبْسُطُ extends yabsuṭu
extends
ٱلرِّزْقَ the provision l-riz'qa
the provision
لِمَن for whom liman
for whom
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
وَيَقْدِرُ ۚ and restricts wayaqdiru
and restricts
وَفَرِحُوا۟ And they rejoice wafariḥū
And they rejoice
بِٱلْحَيَوٰةِ in the life bil-ḥayati
in the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
وَمَا and nothing wamā
and nothing
ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ (is) the life l-ḥayatu
(is) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا of the world l-dun'yā
of the world
فِى in (comparison to)
in (comparison to)
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ the Hereafter l-ākhirati
the Hereafter
إِلَّا except illā
except
مَتَـٰعٌۭ an enjoyment matāʿun
an enjoyment
٢٦ (26)
(26)
Allāh extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. And they rejoice in the worldly life, while the worldly life is not, compared to the Hereafter, except [brief] enjoyment.
13:27
وَيَقُولُ And say wayaqūlu
And say
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved
لَوْلَآ Why has not lawlā
Why has not
أُنزِلَ been sent down unzila
been sent down
عَلَيْهِ upon him ʿalayhi
upon him
ءَايَةٌۭ a Sign āyatun
a Sign
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّهِۦ ۗ his Lord rabbihi
his Lord
قُلْ Say qul
Say
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
يُضِلُّ lets go astray yuḍillu
lets go astray
مَن whom man
whom
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
وَيَهْدِىٓ and guides wayahdī
and guides
إِلَيْهِ to Himself ilayhi
to Himself
مَنْ whoever man
whoever
أَنَابَ turns back anāba
turns back
٢٧ (27)
(27)
And those who disbelieved say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?" Say, [O Muḥammad], "Indeed, Allāh leaves astray whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back [to Him] -
13:28
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believed āmanū
believed
وَتَطْمَئِنُّ and find satisfaction wataṭma-innu
and find satisfaction
قُلُوبُهُم their hearts qulūbuhum
their hearts
بِذِكْرِ in the remembrance bidhik'ri
in the remembrance
ٱللَّهِ ۗ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
أَلَا No doubt alā
No doubt
بِذِكْرِ in the remembrance bidhik'ri
in the remembrance
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
تَطْمَئِنُّ find satisfaction taṭma-innu
find satisfaction
ٱلْقُلُوبُ the hearts l-qulūbu
the hearts
٢٨ (28)
(28)
Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allāh. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allāh hearts are assured."
13:29
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believed āmanū
believed
وَعَمِلُوا۟ and did waʿamilū
and did
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
طُوبَىٰ blessedness ṭūbā
blessedness
لَهُمْ (is) for them lahum
(is) for them
وَحُسْنُ and a beautiful waḥus'nu
and a beautiful
مَـَٔابٍۢ place of return maābin
place of return
٢٩ (29)
(29)
Those who have believed and done righteous deeds - a good state is theirs and a good return.
13:30
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika
Thus
أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ We have sent you arsalnāka
We have sent you
فِىٓ to
to
أُمَّةٍۢ a nation ummatin
a nation
قَدْ verily qad
verily
خَلَتْ have passed away khalat
have passed away
مِن from min
from
قَبْلِهَآ before it qablihā
before it
أُمَمٌۭ nations umamun
nations
لِّتَتْلُوَا۟ so that you might recite litatluwā
so that you might recite
عَلَيْهِمُ to them ʿalayhimu
to them
ٱلَّذِىٓ what alladhī
what
أَوْحَيْنَآ We revealed awḥaynā
We revealed
إِلَيْكَ to you ilayka
to you
وَهُمْ while they wahum
while they
يَكْفُرُونَ disbelieve yakfurūna
disbelieve
بِٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۚ in the Most Gracious bil-raḥmāni
in the Most Gracious
قُلْ Say qul
Say
هُوَ He huwa
He
رَبِّى (is) my Lord rabbī
(is) my Lord
لَآ (there is) no
(there is) no
إِلَـٰهَ god ilāha
god
إِلَّا except illā
except
هُوَ Him huwa
Him
عَلَيْهِ Upon Him ʿalayhi
Upon Him
تَوَكَّلْتُ I put my trust tawakkaltu
I put my trust
وَإِلَيْهِ and to Him wa-ilayhi
and to Him
مَتَابِ (is) my return matābi
(is) my return
٣٠ (30)
(30)
Thus have We sent you to a community before which [other] communities have passed on so you might recite to them that which We revealed to you, while they disbelieve in the Most Merciful. Say, "He is my Lord; there is no deity except Him. Upon Him I rely, and to Him is my return."
13:31
وَلَوْ And if walaw
And if
أَنَّ that was anna
that was
قُرْءَانًۭا any Quran qur'ānan
any Quran
سُيِّرَتْ could be moved suyyirat
could be moved
بِهِ by it bihi
by it
ٱلْجِبَالُ the mountains l-jibālu
the mountains
أَوْ or aw
or
قُطِّعَتْ could be cloven asunder quṭṭiʿat
could be cloven asunder
بِهِ by it bihi
by it
ٱلْأَرْضُ the earth l-arḍu
the earth
أَوْ or aw
or
كُلِّمَ could be made to speak kullima
could be made to speak
بِهِ by it bihi
by it
ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ ۗ the dead l-mawtā
the dead
بَل Nay bal
Nay
لِّلَّهِ with Allah lillahi
with Allah
ٱلْأَمْرُ (is) the command l-amru
(is) the command
جَمِيعًا ۗ all jamīʿan
all
أَفَلَمْ Then do not afalam
Then do not
يَا۟يْـَٔسِ know yāy'asi
know
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوٓا۟ believe āmanū
believe
أَن that an
that
لَّوْ if law
if
يَشَآءُ had willed yashāu
had willed
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
لَهَدَى surely, He would have guided lahadā
surely, He would have guided
ٱلنَّاسَ all l-nāsa
all
جَمِيعًۭا ۗ all of the mankind jamīʿan
all of the mankind
وَلَا And not walā
And not
يَزَالُ will cease yazālu
will cease
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
تُصِيبُهُم to strike them tuṣībuhum
to strike them
بِمَا for what bimā
for what
صَنَعُوا۟ they did ṣanaʿū
they did
قَارِعَةٌ a disaster qāriʿatun
a disaster
أَوْ or aw
or
تَحُلُّ it settles taḥullu
it settles
قَرِيبًۭا close qarīban
close
مِّن from min
from
دَارِهِمْ their homes dārihim
their homes
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
يَأْتِىَ comes yatiya
comes
وَعْدُ (the) promise waʿdu
(the) promise
ٱللَّهِ ۚ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
لَا (will) not
(will) not
يُخْلِفُ fail yukh'lifu
fail
ٱلْمِيعَادَ (in) the Promise l-mīʿāda
(in) the Promise
٣١ (31)
(31)
And if there was any Qur’ān [i.e., recitation] by which the mountains would be removed or the earth would be broken apart or the dead would be made to speak, [it would be this Qur’ān], but to Allāh belongs the affair entirely. Then have those who believed not accepted that had Allāh willed, He would have guided the people, all of them? And those who disbelieve do not cease to be struck, for what they have done, by calamity - or it will descend near their home - until there comes the promise of Allāh. Indeed, Allāh does not fail in [His] promise.
13:32
وَلَقَدِ And certainly walaqadi
And certainly
ٱسْتُهْزِئَ were mocked us'tuh'zi-a
were mocked
بِرُسُلٍۢ Messengers birusulin
Messengers
مِّن from min
from
قَبْلِكَ before you qablika
before you
فَأَمْلَيْتُ but I granted respite fa-amlaytu
but I granted respite
لِلَّذِينَ to those who lilladhīna
to those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
أَخَذْتُهُمْ ۖ I seized them akhadhtuhum
I seized them
فَكَيْفَ and how fakayfa
and how
كَانَ was kāna
was
عِقَابِ My penalty ʿiqābi
My penalty
٣٢ (32)
(32)
And already were [other] messengers ridiculed before you, and I extended the time of those who disbelieved; then I seized them, and how [terrible] was My penalty.
13:33
أَفَمَنْ Is then He Who afaman
Is then He Who
هُوَ (He) huwa
(He)
قَآئِمٌ (is) a Maintainer qāimun
(is) a Maintainer
عَلَىٰ of ʿalā
of
كُلِّ every kulli
every
نَفْسٍۭ soul nafsin
soul
بِمَا for what bimā
for what
كَسَبَتْ ۗ it has earned kasabat
it has earned
وَجَعَلُوا۟ Yet they ascribe wajaʿalū
Yet they ascribe
لِلَّهِ to Allah lillahi
to Allah
شُرَكَآءَ partners shurakāa
partners
قُلْ Say qul
Say
سَمُّوهُمْ ۚ Name them sammūhum
Name them
أَمْ Or am
Or
تُنَبِّـُٔونَهُۥ (do) you inform Him tunabbiūnahu
(do) you inform Him
بِمَا of what bimā
of what
لَا not
not
يَعْلَمُ He knows yaʿlamu
He knows
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
أَم or am
or
بِظَـٰهِرٍۢ of the apparent biẓāhirin
of the apparent
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلْقَوْلِ ۗ the words l-qawli
the words
بَلْ Nay bal
Nay
زُيِّنَ (is) made fair-seeming zuyyina
(is) made fair-seeming
لِلَّذِينَ to those who lilladhīna
to those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
مَكْرُهُمْ their plotting makruhum
their plotting
وَصُدُّوا۟ and they are hindered waṣuddū
and they are hindered
عَنِ from ʿani
from
ٱلسَّبِيلِ ۗ the Path l-sabīli
the Path
وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever
يُضْلِلِ (by) Allah yuḍ'lili
(by) Allah
ٱللَّهُ Allah lets go astray l-lahu
Allah lets go astray
فَمَا then not famā
then not
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
مِنْ any min
any
هَادٍۢ guide hādin
guide
٣٣ (33)
(33)
Then is He who is a maintainer of every soul, [knowing] what it has earned, [like any other]? But to Allāh they have attributed partners. Say, "Name them. Or do you inform Him of that which He knows not upon the earth or of what is apparent [i.e., alleged] of speech?"2 Rather, their [own] plan has been made attractive to those who disbelieve, and they have been averted from the way. And whomever Allāh sends astray - there will be for him no guide.
13:34
لَّهُمْ For them lahum
For them
عَذَابٌۭ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
فِى in
in
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ the life l-ḥayati
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
وَلَعَذَابُ and surely the punishment walaʿadhābu
and surely the punishment
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ (of) the Hereafter l-ākhirati
(of) the Hereafter
أَشَقُّ ۖ (is) harder ashaqqu
(is) harder
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
لَهُم for them lahum
for them
مِّنَ against mina
against
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
مِن any min
any
وَاقٍۢ defender wāqin
defender
٣٤ (34)
(34)
For them will be punishment in the life of [this] world, and the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe. And they will not have from Allāh any protector.
13:35
۞ مَّثَلُ The example mathalu
The example
ٱلْجَنَّةِ of Paradise l-janati
of Paradise
ٱلَّتِى which allatī
which
وُعِدَ (is) promised wuʿida
(is) promised
ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ ۖ (to) the righteous l-mutaqūna
(to) the righteous
تَجْرِى flows tajrī
flows
مِن from min
from
تَحْتِهَا underneath it taḥtihā
underneath it
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖ the rivers l-anhāru
the rivers
أُكُلُهَا Its food ukuluhā
Its food
دَآئِمٌۭ (is) everlasting dāimun
(is) everlasting
وَظِلُّهَا ۚ and its shade waẓilluhā
and its shade
تِلْكَ This til'ka
This
عُقْبَى (is the) end ʿuq'bā
(is the) end
ٱلَّذِينَ of those who alladhīna
of those who
ٱتَّقَوا۟ ۖ (are) righteous ittaqaw
(are) righteous
وَّعُقْبَى and (the) end waʿuq'bā
and (the) end
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ (of) the disbelievers l-kāfirīna
(of) the disbelievers
ٱلنَّارُ (is) the Fire l-nāru
(is) the Fire
٣٥ (35)
(35)
The example [i.e., description] of Paradise, which the righteous have been promised, is [that] beneath it rivers flow. Its fruit is lasting, and its shade. That is the consequence for the righteous, and the consequence for the disbelievers is the Fire.
13:36
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those (to) whom wa-alladhīna
And those (to) whom
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ We have given them ātaynāhumu
We have given them
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book l-kitāba
the Book
يَفْرَحُونَ rejoice yafraḥūna
rejoice
بِمَآ at what bimā
at what
أُنزِلَ has been revealed unzila
has been revealed
إِلَيْكَ ۖ to you ilayka
to you
وَمِنَ but among wamina
but among
ٱلْأَحْزَابِ the groups l-aḥzābi
the groups
مَن (those) who man
(those) who
يُنكِرُ deny yunkiru
deny
بَعْضَهُۥ ۚ a part of it baʿḍahu
a part of it
قُلْ Say qul
Say
إِنَّمَآ Only innamā
Only
أُمِرْتُ I have been commanded umir'tu
I have been commanded
أَنْ that an
that
أَعْبُدَ I worship aʿbuda
I worship
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
وَلَآ and not walā
and not
أُشْرِكَ I associate partners ush'rika
I associate partners
بِهِۦٓ ۚ with Him bihi
with Him
إِلَيْهِ To Him ilayhi
To Him
أَدْعُوا۟ I call adʿū
I call
وَإِلَيْهِ and to Him wa-ilayhi
and to Him
مَـَٔابِ (is) my return maābi
(is) my return
٣٦ (36)
(36)
And [the believers among] those to whom We have given the [previous] Scripture rejoice at what has been revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], but among the [opposing] factions are those who deny part of it [i.e., the Qur’ān]. Say, "I have only been commanded to worship Allāh and not associate [anything] with Him. To Him I invite, and to Him is my return."
13:37
وَكَذَٰلِكَ And thus wakadhālika
And thus
أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ We have revealed it anzalnāhu
We have revealed it
حُكْمًا (to be) a judgment of authority ḥuk'man
(to be) a judgment of authority
عَرَبِيًّۭا ۚ (in) Arabic ʿarabiyyan
(in) Arabic
وَلَئِنِ And if wala-ini
And if
ٱتَّبَعْتَ you follow ittabaʿta
you follow
أَهْوَآءَهُم their desires ahwāahum
their desires
بَعْدَ مَا after what baʿdamā
after what
جَآءَكَ came to you jāaka
came to you
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْعِلْمِ the knowledge l-ʿil'mi
the knowledge
مَا not
not
لَكَ for you laka
for you
مِنَ against mina
against
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
مِن any min
any
وَلِىٍّۢ protector waliyyin
protector
وَلَا and not walā
and not
وَاقٍۢ defender wāqin
defender
٣٧ (37)
(37)
And thus We have revealed it as an Arabic legislation. And if you should follow their inclinations after what has come to you of knowledge, you would not have against Allāh any ally or any protector.
13:38
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad
And certainly
أَرْسَلْنَا We sent arsalnā
We sent
رُسُلًۭا Messengers rusulan
Messengers
مِّن from min
from
قَبْلِكَ before you qablika
before you
وَجَعَلْنَا and We made wajaʿalnā
and We made
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
أَزْوَٰجًۭا wives azwājan
wives
وَذُرِّيَّةًۭ ۚ and offspring wadhurriyyatan
and offspring
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
كَانَ was kāna
was
لِرَسُولٍ for a Messenger lirasūlin
for a Messenger
أَن that an
that
يَأْتِىَ he comes yatiya
he comes
بِـَٔايَةٍ with a sign biāyatin
with a sign
إِلَّا except illā
except
بِإِذْنِ by the leave bi-idh'ni
by the leave
ٱللَّهِ ۗ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
لِكُلِّ For everything likulli
For everything
أَجَلٍۢ (is) a time ajalin
(is) a time
كِتَابٌۭ prescribed kitābun
prescribed
٣٨ (38)
(38)
And We have already sent messengers before you and assigned to them wives and descendants. And it was not for a messenger to come with a sign except by permission of Allāh. For every term is a decree.
13:39
يَمْحُوا۟ (Is) eliminated yamḥū
(Is) eliminated
ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah l-lahu
(by) Allah
مَا what
what
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
وَيُثْبِتُ ۖ and confirms wayuth'bitu
and confirms
وَعِندَهُۥٓ and with Him waʿindahu
and with Him
أُمُّ (is) the Mother (of) the Book ummu
(is) the Mother (of) the Book
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (is) the Mother (of) the Book l-kitābi
(is) the Mother (of) the Book
٣٩ (39)
(39)
Allāh eliminates what He wills or confirms, and with Him is the Mother of the Book.
13:40
وَإِن And whether wa-in
And whether
مَّا (what)
(what)
نُرِيَنَّكَ We show you nuriyannaka
We show you
بَعْضَ a part baʿḍa
a part
ٱلَّذِى (of) what alladhī
(of) what
نَعِدُهُمْ We have promised them naʿiduhum
We have promised them
أَوْ or aw
or
نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ We cause you to die natawaffayannaka
We cause you to die
فَإِنَّمَا so only fa-innamā
so only
عَلَيْكَ on you ʿalayka
on you
ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ (is) the conveyance l-balāghu
(is) the conveyance
وَعَلَيْنَا and on Us waʿalaynā
and on Us
ٱلْحِسَابُ (is) the reckoning l-ḥisābu
(is) the reckoning
٤٠ (40)
(40)
And whether We show you part of what We promise them or take you in death, upon you is only the [duty of] notification, and upon Us is the account.
13:41
أَوَلَمْ Did not awalam
Did not
يَرَوْا۟ they see yaraw
they see
أَنَّا that We annā
that We
نَأْتِى come natī
come
ٱلْأَرْضَ (to) the land l-arḍa
(to) the land
نَنقُصُهَا reducing it nanquṣuhā
reducing it
مِنْ from min
from
أَطْرَافِهَا ۚ its borders aṭrāfihā
its borders
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
يَحْكُمُ judges yaḥkumu
judges
لَا (there is) no
(there is) no
مُعَقِّبَ adjuster muʿaqqiba
adjuster
لِحُكْمِهِۦ ۚ (of) His Judgment liḥuk'mihi
(of) His Judgment
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
سَرِيعُ (is) Swift sarīʿu
(is) Swift
ٱلْحِسَابِ (in) the reckoning l-ḥisābi
(in) the reckoning
٤١ (41)
(41)
Have they not seen that We set upon the land, reducing it from its borders? And Allāh decides; there is no adjuster of His decision. And He is swift in account.
13:42
وَقَدْ And certainly waqad
And certainly
مَكَرَ plotted makara
plotted
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
مِن (were) from min
(were) from
قَبْلِهِمْ before them qablihim
before them
فَلِلَّهِ but for Allah falillahi
but for Allah
ٱلْمَكْرُ (is) the plot l-makru
(is) the plot
جَمِيعًۭا ۖ all jamīʿan
all
يَعْلَمُ He knows yaʿlamu
He knows
مَا what
what
تَكْسِبُ earns taksibu
earns
كُلُّ every kullu
every
نَفْسٍۢ ۗ soul nafsin
soul
وَسَيَعْلَمُ and will know wasayaʿlamu
and will know
ٱلْكُفَّـٰرُ the disbelievers l-kufāru
the disbelievers
لِمَنْ for whom liman
for whom
عُقْبَى (is) the final ʿuq'bā
(is) the final
ٱلدَّارِ the home l-dāri
the home
٤٢ (42)
(42)
And those before them had plotted, but to Allāh belongs the plan entirely. He knows what every soul earns, and the disbelievers will know for whom is the final home.
13:43
وَيَقُولُ And say wayaqūlu
And say
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
لَسْتَ You are not lasta
You are not
مُرْسَلًۭا ۚ a Messenger mur'salan
a Messenger
قُلْ Say qul
Say
كَفَىٰ Sufficient kafā
Sufficient
بِٱللَّهِ (is) Allah bil-lahi
(is) Allah
شَهِيدًۢا (as) a Witness shahīdan
(as) a Witness
بَيْنِى between me baynī
between me
وَبَيْنَكُمْ and between you wabaynakum
and between you
وَمَنْ and whoever waman
and whoever
عِندَهُۥ [he] has ʿindahu
[he] has
عِلْمُ knowledge ʿil'mu
knowledge
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book
٤٣ (43)
(43)
And those who have disbelieved say, "You are not a messenger." Say, [O Muḥammad], "Sufficient is Allāh as Witness between me and you, and [the witness of] whoever has knowledge of the Scripture."1
