ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
19:1
كٓهيعٓصٓ Kaaf Ha Ya Ain Sad kaf-ha-ya-ain-sad
Kaaf Ha Ya Ain Sad

Kāf, Hā, Yā, ʿAyn, Ṣād.
19:2
ذِكْرُ (A) mention dhik'ru
(A) mention
رَحْمَتِ (of the) Mercy raḥmati
(of the) Mercy
رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord rabbika
(of) your Lord
عَبْدَهُۥ (to) His servant ʿabdahu
(to) His servant
زَكَرِيَّآ Zakariya zakariyyā
Zakariya
٢ (2)
(2)
[This is] a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah
19:3
إِذْ When idh
When
نَادَىٰ he called nādā
he called
رَبَّهُۥ (to) his Lord rabbahu
(to) his Lord
نِدَآءً a call nidāan
a call
خَفِيًّۭا secret khafiyyan
secret
٣ (3)
(3)
When he called to his Lord a private call [i.e., supplication].
19:4
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
إِنِّى Indeed, [I] innī
Indeed, [I]
وَهَنَ (have) weakened wahana
(have) weakened
ٱلْعَظْمُ my bones l-ʿaẓmu
my bones
مِنِّى my bones minnī
my bones
وَٱشْتَعَلَ and flared wa-ish'taʿala
and flared
ٱلرَّأْسُ (my) head l-rasu
(my) head
شَيْبًۭا (with) white shayban
(with) white
وَلَمْ and not walam
and not
أَكُنۢ I have been akun
I have been
بِدُعَآئِكَ in (my) supplication (to) You biduʿāika
in (my) supplication (to) You
رَبِّ my Lord rabbi
my Lord
شَقِيًّۭا unblessed shaqiyyan
unblessed
٤ (4)
(4)
He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy [i.e., disappointed].
19:5
وَإِنِّى And indeed, I wa-innī
And indeed, I
خِفْتُ [I] fear khif'tu
[I] fear
ٱلْمَوَٰلِىَ the successors l-mawāliya
the successors
مِن after me min
after me
وَرَآءِى after me warāī
after me
وَكَانَتِ and is wakānati
and is
ٱمْرَأَتِى my wife im'ra-atī
my wife
عَاقِرًۭا barren ʿāqiran
barren
فَهَبْ So give fahab
So give
لِى [to] me
[to] me
مِن from min
from
لَّدُنكَ Yourself ladunka
Yourself
وَلِيًّۭا an heir waliyyan
an heir
٥ (5)
(5)
And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren, so give me from Yourself an heir
19:6
يَرِثُنِى Who will inherit me yarithunī
Who will inherit me
وَيَرِثُ and inherit wayarithu
and inherit
مِنْ from min
from
ءَالِ (the) family āli
(the) family
يَعْقُوبَ ۖ (of) Yaqub yaʿqūba
(of) Yaqub
وَٱجْعَلْهُ And make him wa-ij'ʿalhu
And make him
رَبِّ my Lord rabbi
my Lord
رَضِيًّۭا pleasing raḍiyyan
pleasing
٦ (6)
(6)
Who will inherit me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing [to You]."
19:7
يَـٰزَكَرِيَّآ O Zakariya yāzakariyyā
O Zakariya
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We
نُبَشِّرُكَ [We] give you glad tidings nubashiruka
[We] give you glad tidings
بِغُلَـٰمٍ of a boy bighulāmin
of a boy
ٱسْمُهُۥ his name us'muhu
his name
يَحْيَىٰ (will be) Yahya yaḥyā
(will be) Yahya
لَمْ not lam
not
نَجْعَل We (have) assigned najʿal
We (have) assigned
لَّهُۥ [for] it lahu
[for] it
مِن before min
before
قَبْلُ before qablu
before
سَمِيًّۭا (this) name samiyyan
(this) name
٧ (7)
(7)
[He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name."
19:8
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
أَنَّىٰ How annā
How
يَكُونُ can yakūnu
can
لِى I have
I have
غُلَـٰمٌۭ a boy ghulāmun
a boy
وَكَانَتِ while is wakānati
while is
ٱمْرَأَتِى my wife im'ra-atī
my wife
عَاقِرًۭا barren ʿāqiran
barren
وَقَدْ and indeed waqad
and indeed
بَلَغْتُ I have reached balaghtu
I have reached
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْكِبَرِ the old age l-kibari
the old age
عِتِيًّۭا extreme ʿitiyyan
extreme
٨ (8)
(8)
He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?"
19:9
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika
Thus
قَالَ said qāla
said
رَبُّكَ your Lord rabbuka
your Lord
هُوَ 'It huwa
'It
عَلَىَّ (is) easy for Me ʿalayya
(is) easy for Me
هَيِّنٌۭ (is) easy for Me hayyinun
(is) easy for Me
وَقَدْ and certainly waqad
and certainly
خَلَقْتُكَ I (have) created you khalaqtuka
I (have) created you
مِن before min
before
قَبْلُ before qablu
before
وَلَمْ while not walam
while not
تَكُ you were taku
you were
شَيْـًۭٔا anything.' shayan
anything.'
٩ (9)
(9)
[An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.'"
19:10
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
ٱجْعَل Make ij'ʿal
Make
لِّىٓ for me
for me
ءَايَةًۭ ۚ a sign āyatan
a sign
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
ءَايَتُكَ Your sign āyatuka
Your sign
أَلَّا (is) that not allā
(is) that not
تُكَلِّمَ you will speak tukallima
you will speak
ٱلنَّاسَ (to) the people l-nāsa
(to) the people
ثَلَـٰثَ (for) three thalātha
(for) three
لَيَالٍۢ nights layālin
nights
سَوِيًّۭا sound sawiyyan
sound
١٠ (10)
(10)
[Zechariah] said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights, [being] sound."1
19:11
فَخَرَجَ Then he came out fakharaja
Then he came out
عَلَىٰ to ʿalā
to
قَوْمِهِۦ his people qawmihi
his people
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلْمِحْرَابِ the prayer chamber l-miḥ'rābi
the prayer chamber
فَأَوْحَىٰٓ and he signaled fa-awḥā
and he signaled
إِلَيْهِمْ to them ilayhim
to them
أَن to an
to
سَبِّحُوا۟ glorify (Allah) sabbiḥū
glorify (Allah)
بُكْرَةًۭ (in) the morning buk'ratan
(in) the morning
وَعَشِيًّۭا and (in) the evening waʿashiyyan
and (in) the evening
١١ (11)
(11)
So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them to exalt [Allāh] in the morning and afternoon.
19:12
يَـٰيَحْيَىٰ O Yahya yāyaḥyā
O Yahya
خُذِ Hold khudhi
Hold
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Scripture l-kitāba
the Scripture
بِقُوَّةٍۢ ۖ with strength biquwwatin
with strength
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ And We gave him waātaynāhu
And We gave him
ٱلْحُكْمَ [the] wisdom l-ḥuk'ma
[the] wisdom
صَبِيًّۭا (when he was) a child ṣabiyyan
(when he was) a child
١٢ (12)
(12)
[Allāh said], "O John, take the Scripture [i.e., adhere to it] with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy
19:13
وَحَنَانًۭا And affection waḥanānan
And affection
مِّن from min
from
لَّدُنَّا Us ladunnā
Us
وَزَكَوٰةًۭ ۖ and purity wazakatan
and purity
وَكَانَ and he was wakāna
and he was
تَقِيًّۭا righteous taqiyyan
righteous
١٣ (13)
(13)
And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allāh
19:14
وَبَرًّۢا And dutiful wabarran
And dutiful
بِوَٰلِدَيْهِ to his parents biwālidayhi
to his parents
وَلَمْ and not walam
and not
يَكُن he was yakun
he was
جَبَّارًا a tyrant jabbāran
a tyrant
عَصِيًّۭا disobedient ʿaṣiyyan
disobedient
١٤ (14)
(14)
And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant.
19:15
وَسَلَـٰمٌ And peace be wasalāmun
And peace be
عَلَيْهِ upon him ʿalayhi
upon him
يَوْمَ (the) day yawma
(the) day
وُلِدَ he was born wulida
he was born
وَيَوْمَ and (the) day wayawma
and (the) day
يَمُوتُ he dies yamūtu
he dies
وَيَوْمَ and (the) day wayawma
and (the) day
يُبْعَثُ he will be raised yub'ʿathu
he will be raised
حَيًّۭا alive ḥayyan
alive
١٥ (15)
(15)
And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive.
19:16
وَٱذْكُرْ And mention wa-udh'kur
And mention
فِى in
in
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ the Book l-kitābi
the Book
مَرْيَمَ Maryam maryama
Maryam
إِذِ when idhi
when
ٱنتَبَذَتْ she withdrew intabadhat
she withdrew
مِنْ from min
from
أَهْلِهَا her family ahlihā
her family
مَكَانًۭا (to) a place makānan
(to) a place
شَرْقِيًّۭا eastern sharqiyyan
eastern
١٦ (16)
(16)
And mention, [O Muḥammad], in the Book [the story of] Mary, when she withdrew from her family to a place toward the east.
19:17
فَٱتَّخَذَتْ Then she took fa-ittakhadhat
Then she took
مِن from them min
from them
دُونِهِمْ from them dūnihim
from them
حِجَابًۭا a screen ḥijāban
a screen
فَأَرْسَلْنَآ Then We sent fa-arsalnā
Then We sent
إِلَيْهَا to her ilayhā
to her
رُوحَنَا Our Spirit rūḥanā
Our Spirit
فَتَمَثَّلَ then he assumed for her the likeness fatamathala
then he assumed for her the likeness
لَهَا then he assumed for her the likeness lahā
then he assumed for her the likeness
بَشَرًۭا (of) a man basharan
(of) a man
سَوِيًّۭا well-proportioned sawiyyan
well-proportioned
١٧ (17)
(17)
And she took, in seclusion from them, a screen. Then We sent to her Our Angel [i.e., Gabriel], and he represented himself to her as a well-proportioned man.
19:18
قَالَتْ She said qālat
She said
إِنِّىٓ Indeed, I innī
Indeed, I
أَعُوذُ [I] seek refuge aʿūdhu
[I] seek refuge
بِٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ with the Most Gracious bil-raḥmāni
with the Most Gracious
مِنكَ from you minka
from you
إِن if in
if
كُنتَ you are kunta
you are
تَقِيًّۭا God fearing taqiyyan
God fearing
١٨ (18)
(18)
She said, "Indeed, I seek refuge in the Most Merciful from you, [so leave me], if you should be fearing of Allāh."
19:19
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
إِنَّمَآ Only innamā
Only
أَنَا۠ I am anā
I am
رَسُولُ a Messenger rasūlu
a Messenger
رَبِّكِ (from) your Lord rabbiki
(from) your Lord
لِأَهَبَ that I (may) bestow li-ahaba
that I (may) bestow
لَكِ on you laki
on you
غُلَـٰمًۭا a son ghulāman
a son
زَكِيًّۭا pure zakiyyan
pure
١٩ (19)
(19)
He said, "I am only the messenger of your Lord to give you [news of] a pure boy [i.e., son]."
19:20
قَالَتْ She said qālat
She said
أَنَّىٰ How annā
How
يَكُونُ can be yakūnu
can be
لِى for me
for me
غُلَـٰمٌۭ a son ghulāmun
a son
وَلَمْ when not walam
when not
يَمْسَسْنِى has touched me yamsasnī
has touched me
بَشَرٌۭ a man basharun
a man
وَلَمْ and not walam
and not
أَكُ I am aku
I am
بَغِيًّۭا unchaste baghiyyan
unchaste
٢٠ (20)
(20)
She said, "How can I have a boy while no man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?"
19:21
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
كَذَٰلِكِ Thus kadhāliki
Thus
قَالَ said qāla
said
رَبُّكِ your Lord rabbuki
your Lord
هُوَ 'It huwa
'It
عَلَىَّ (is) for Me ʿalayya
(is) for Me
هَيِّنٌۭ ۖ easy hayyinun
easy
وَلِنَجْعَلَهُۥٓ and so that We will make him walinajʿalahu
and so that We will make him
ءَايَةًۭ a sign āyatan
a sign
لِّلنَّاسِ for the mankind lilnnāsi
for the mankind
وَرَحْمَةًۭ and a Mercy waraḥmatan
and a Mercy
مِّنَّا ۚ from Us minnā
from Us
وَكَانَ And (it) is wakāna
And (it) is
أَمْرًۭا a matter amran
a matter
مَّقْضِيًّۭا decreed.' maqḍiyyan
decreed.'
٢١ (21)
(21)
He said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign to the people and a mercy from Us. And it is a matter [already] decreed.'"
19:22
۞ فَحَمَلَتْهُ So she conceived him faḥamalathu
So she conceived him
فَٱنتَبَذَتْ and she withdrew fa-intabadhat
and she withdrew
بِهِۦ with him bihi
with him
مَكَانًۭا (to) a place makānan
(to) a place
قَصِيًّۭا remote qaṣiyyan
remote
٢٢ (22)
(22)
So she conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a remote place.
19:23
فَأَجَآءَهَا Then drove her fa-ajāahā
Then drove her
ٱلْمَخَاضُ the pains of childbirth l-makhāḍu
the pains of childbirth
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
جِذْعِ (the) trunk jidh'ʿi
(the) trunk
ٱلنَّخْلَةِ (of) the date-palm l-nakhlati
(of) the date-palm
قَالَتْ She said qālat
She said
يَـٰلَيْتَنِى O! I wish yālaytanī
O! I wish
مِتُّ I (had) died mittu
I (had) died
قَبْلَ before qabla
before
هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this
وَكُنتُ and I was wakuntu
and I was
نَسْيًۭا (in) oblivion nasyan
(in) oblivion
مَّنسِيًّۭا forgotten mansiyyan
forgotten
٢٣ (23)
(23)
And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She said, "Oh, I wish I had died before this and was in oblivion, forgotten."
19:24
فَنَادَىٰهَا So cried to her fanādāhā
So cried to her
مِن from min
from
تَحْتِهَآ beneath her taḥtihā
beneath her
أَلَّا That (do) not allā
That (do) not
تَحْزَنِى grieve taḥzanī
grieve
قَدْ verily qad
verily
جَعَلَ (has) placed jaʿala
(has) placed
رَبُّكِ your Lord rabbuki
your Lord
تَحْتَكِ beneath you taḥtaki
beneath you
سَرِيًّۭا a stream sariyyan
a stream
٢٤ (24)
(24)
But he called her from below her, "Do not grieve; your Lord has provided beneath you a stream.
19:25
وَهُزِّىٓ And shake wahuzzī
And shake
إِلَيْكِ towards you ilayki
towards you
بِجِذْعِ (the) trunk bijidh'ʿi
(the) trunk
ٱلنَّخْلَةِ (of) the date-palm l-nakhlati
(of) the date-palm
تُسَـٰقِطْ it will drop tusāqiṭ
it will drop
عَلَيْكِ upon you ʿalayki
upon you
رُطَبًۭا fresh dates ruṭaban
fresh dates
جَنِيًّۭا ripe janiyyan
ripe
٢٥ (25)
(25)
And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates.
19:26
فَكُلِى So eat fakulī
So eat
وَٱشْرَبِى and drink wa-ish'rabī
and drink
وَقَرِّى and cool waqarrī
and cool
عَيْنًۭا ۖ (your) eyes ʿaynan
(your) eyes
فَإِمَّا And if fa-immā
And if
تَرَيِنَّ you see tarayinna
you see
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلْبَشَرِ human being l-bashari
human being
أَحَدًۭا anyone aḥadan
anyone
فَقُولِىٓ then say faqūlī
then say
إِنِّى Indeed, I innī
Indeed, I
نَذَرْتُ [I] have vowed nadhartu
[I] have vowed
لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ to the Most Gracious lilrraḥmāni
to the Most Gracious
صَوْمًۭا a fast ṣawman
a fast
فَلَنْ so not falan
so not
أُكَلِّمَ I will speak ukallima
I will speak
ٱلْيَوْمَ today l-yawma
today
إِنسِيًّۭا (to any) human being insiyyan
(to any) human being
٢٦ (26)
(26)
So eat and drink and be contented. And if you see from among humanity anyone, say, 'Indeed, I have vowed to the Most Merciful abstention, so I will not speak today to [any] man.'"
19:27
فَأَتَتْ Then she came fa-atat
Then she came
بِهِۦ with him bihi
with him
قَوْمَهَا (to) her people qawmahā
(to) her people
تَحْمِلُهُۥ ۖ carrying him taḥmiluhu
carrying him
قَالُوا۟ They said qālū
They said
يَـٰمَرْيَمُ O Maryam yāmaryamu
O Maryam
لَقَدْ Certainly laqad
Certainly
جِئْتِ you (have) brought ji'ti
you (have) brought
شَيْـًۭٔا an amazing thing shayan
an amazing thing
فَرِيًّۭا an amazing thing fariyyan
an amazing thing
٢٧ (27)
(27)
Then she brought him to her people, carrying him. They said, "O Mary, you have certainly done a thing unprecedented.
19:28
يَـٰٓأُخْتَ O sister yāukh'ta
O sister
هَـٰرُونَ (of) Harun hārūna
(of) Harun
مَا Not
Not
كَانَ was kāna
was
أَبُوكِ your father abūki
your father
ٱمْرَأَ an evil man im'ra-a
an evil man
سَوْءٍۢ an evil man sawin
an evil man
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
كَانَتْ was kānat
was
أُمُّكِ your mother ummuki
your mother
بَغِيًّۭا unchaste baghiyyan
unchaste
٢٨ (28)
(28)
O sister [i.e., descendant] of Aaron, your father was not a man of evil, nor was your mother unchaste."
19:29
فَأَشَارَتْ Then she pointed fa-ashārat
Then she pointed
إِلَيْهِ ۖ to him ilayhi
to him
قَالُوا۟ They said qālū
They said
كَيْفَ How kayfa
How
نُكَلِّمُ (can) we speak nukallimu
(can) we speak
مَن (to one) who man
(to one) who
كَانَ is kāna
is
فِى in
in
ٱلْمَهْدِ the cradle l-mahdi
the cradle
صَبِيًّۭا a child ṣabiyyan
a child
٢٩ (29)
(29)
So she pointed to him. They said, "How can we speak to one who is in the cradle a child?"
19:30
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
إِنِّى Indeed, I am innī
Indeed, I am
عَبْدُ a slave ʿabdu
a slave
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ءَاتَىٰنِىَ He gave me ātāniya
He gave me
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Scripture l-kitāba
the Scripture
وَجَعَلَنِى and made me wajaʿalanī
and made me
نَبِيًّۭا a Prophet nabiyyan
a Prophet
٣٠ (30)
(30)
[Jesus] said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allāh. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.
19:31
وَجَعَلَنِى And He (has) made me wajaʿalanī
And He (has) made me
مُبَارَكًا blessed mubārakan
blessed
أَيْنَ wherever ayna
wherever
مَا wherever
wherever
كُنتُ I am kuntu
I am
وَأَوْصَـٰنِى and has enjoined (on) me wa-awṣānī
and has enjoined (on) me
بِٱلصَّلَوٰةِ [of] the prayer bil-ṣalati
[of] the prayer
وَٱلزَّكَوٰةِ and zakah wal-zakati
and zakah
مَا as long as I am
as long as I am
دُمْتُ as long as I am dum'tu
as long as I am
حَيًّۭا alive ḥayyan
alive
٣١ (31)
(31)
And He has made me blessed wherever I am and has enjoined upon me prayer and zakāh as long as I remain alive
19:32
وَبَرًّۢا And dutiful wabarran
And dutiful
بِوَٰلِدَتِى to my mother biwālidatī
to my mother
وَلَمْ and not walam
and not
يَجْعَلْنِى He (has) made me yajʿalnī
He (has) made me
جَبَّارًۭا insolent jabbāran
insolent
شَقِيًّۭا unblessed shaqiyyan
unblessed
٣٢ (32)
(32)
And [made me] dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me a wretched tyrant.
19:33
وَٱلسَّلَـٰمُ And peace (be) wal-salāmu
And peace (be)
عَلَىَّ on me ʿalayya
on me
يَوْمَ (the) day yawma
(the) day
وُلِدتُّ I was born wulidttu
I was born
وَيَوْمَ and (the) day wayawma
and (the) day
أَمُوتُ I will die amūtu
I will die
وَيَوْمَ and (the) Day wayawma
and (the) Day
أُبْعَثُ I will be raised ub'ʿathu
I will be raised
حَيًّۭا alive ḥayyan
alive
٣٣ (33)
(33)
And peace is on me the day I was born and the day I will die and the day I am raised alive."
19:34
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
عِيسَى (was) Isa ʿīsā
(was) Isa
ٱبْنُ (the) son ub'nu
(the) son
مَرْيَمَ ۚ (of) Maryam maryama
(of) Maryam
قَوْلَ a statement qawla
a statement
ٱلْحَقِّ (of) truth l-ḥaqi
(of) truth
ٱلَّذِى that which alladhī
that which
فِيهِ about it fīhi
about it
يَمْتَرُونَ they dispute yamtarūna
they dispute
٣٤ (34)
(34)
That is Jesus, the son of Mary - the word of truth about which they are in dispute.
19:35
مَا Not
Not
كَانَ (it) is kāna
(it) is
لِلَّهِ for Allah lillahi
for Allah
أَن that an
that
يَتَّخِذَ He should take yattakhidha
He should take
مِن any son min
any son
وَلَدٍۢ ۖ any son waladin
any son
سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥٓ ۚ Glory be to Him sub'ḥānahu
Glory be to Him
إِذَا When idhā
When
قَضَىٰٓ He decrees qaḍā
He decrees
أَمْرًۭا a matter amran
a matter
فَإِنَّمَا then only fa-innamā
then only
يَقُولُ He says yaqūlu
He says
لَهُۥ to it lahu
to it
كُن Be kun
Be
فَيَكُونُ and it is fayakūnu
and it is
٣٥ (35)
(35)
It is not [befitting] for Allāh to take a son; exalted is He! When He decrees an affair, He only says to it, "Be," and it is.
19:36
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
رَبِّى (is) my Lord rabbī
(is) my Lord
وَرَبُّكُمْ and your Lord warabbukum
and your Lord
فَٱعْبُدُوهُ ۚ so worship Him fa-uʿ'budūhu
so worship Him
هَـٰذَا This hādhā
This
صِرَٰطٌۭ (is) a path ṣirāṭun
(is) a path
مُّسْتَقِيمٌۭ straight mus'taqīmun
straight
٣٦ (36)
(36)
[Jesus said], "And indeed, Allāh is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is a straight path."
19:37
فَٱخْتَلَفَ But differed fa-ikh'talafa
But differed
ٱلْأَحْزَابُ the sects l-aḥzābu
the sects
مِنۢ from among them min
from among them
بَيْنِهِمْ ۖ from among them baynihim
from among them
فَوَيْلٌۭ so woe fawaylun
so woe
لِّلَّذِينَ to those who lilladhīna
to those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
مِن from min
from
مَّشْهَدِ (the) witnessing mashhadi
(the) witnessing
يَوْمٍ (of) a Day yawmin
(of) a Day
عَظِيمٍ great ʿaẓīmin
great
٣٧ (37)
(37)
Then the factions differed [concerning Jesus] from among them, so woe to those who disbelieved - from the scene of a tremendous Day.
19:38
أَسْمِعْ How they will hear asmiʿ
How they will hear
بِهِمْ How they will hear bihim
How they will hear
وَأَبْصِرْ and how (they will) see wa-abṣir
and how (they will) see
يَوْمَ (the) Day yawma
(the) Day
يَأْتُونَنَا ۖ they will come to Us yatūnanā
they will come to Us
لَـٰكِنِ but lākini
but
ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimūna
the wrongdoers
ٱلْيَوْمَ today l-yawma
today
فِى (are) in
(are) in
ضَلَـٰلٍۢ error ḍalālin
error
مُّبِينٍۢ clear mubīnin
clear
٣٨ (38)
(38)
How [clearly] they will hear and see the Day they come to Us, but the wrongdoers today are in clear error.
19:39
وَأَنذِرْهُمْ And warn them wa-andhir'hum
And warn them
يَوْمَ (of the) Day yawma
(of the) Day
ٱلْحَسْرَةِ (of) the Regret l-ḥasrati
(of) the Regret
إِذْ when idh
when
قُضِىَ has been decided quḍiya
has been decided
ٱلْأَمْرُ the matter l-amru
the matter
وَهُمْ And they wahum
And they
فِى (are) in
(are) in
غَفْلَةٍۢ heedlessness ghaflatin
heedlessness
وَهُمْ and they wahum
and they
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يُؤْمِنُونَ believe yu'minūna
believe
٣٩ (39)
(39)
And warn them, [O Muḥammad], of the Day of Regret, when the matter will be concluded; and [yet], they are in [a state of] heedlessness, and they do not believe.
19:40
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We
نَحْنُ [We] naḥnu
[We]
نَرِثُ [We] will inherit narithu
[We] will inherit
ٱلْأَرْضَ the earth l-arḍa
the earth
وَمَنْ and whoever waman
and whoever
عَلَيْهَا (is) on it ʿalayhā
(is) on it
وَإِلَيْنَا and to Us wa-ilaynā
and to Us
يُرْجَعُونَ they will be returned yur'jaʿūna
they will be returned
٤٠ (40)
(40)
Indeed, it is We who will inherit the earth and whoever is on it, and to Us they will be returned.
19:41
وَٱذْكُرْ And mention wa-udh'kur
And mention
فِى in
in
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ the Book l-kitābi
the Book
إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ۚ Ibrahim ib'rāhīma
Ibrahim
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he innahu
Indeed, he
كَانَ was kāna
was
صِدِّيقًۭا a man of truth ṣiddīqan
a man of truth
نَّبِيًّا a Prophet nabiyyan
a Prophet
٤١ (41)
(41)
And mention in the Book [the story of] Abraham. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet.
19:42
إِذْ When idh
When
قَالَ he said qāla
he said
لِأَبِيهِ to his father li-abīhi
to his father
يَـٰٓأَبَتِ O my father yāabati
O my father
لِمَ Why lima
Why
تَعْبُدُ (do) you worship taʿbudu
(do) you worship
مَا that which
that which
لَا not
not
يَسْمَعُ hears yasmaʿu
hears
وَلَا and not walā
and not
يُبْصِرُ sees yub'ṣiru
sees
وَلَا and not walā
and not
يُغْنِى benefits yugh'nī
benefits
عَنكَ [to] you ʿanka
[to] you
شَيْـًۭٔا (in) anything shayan
(in) anything
٤٢ (42)
(42)
[Mention] when he said to his father, "O my father, why do you worship that which does not hear and does not see and will not benefit you at all?
19:43
يَـٰٓأَبَتِ O my father yāabati
O my father
إِنِّى Indeed, [I] innī
Indeed, [I]
قَدْ verily qad
verily
جَآءَنِى (has) come to me jāanī
(has) come to me
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْعِلْمِ the knowledge l-ʿil'mi
the knowledge
مَا what
what
لَمْ not lam
not
يَأْتِكَ came to you yatika
came to you
فَٱتَّبِعْنِىٓ so follow me fa-ittabiʿ'nī
so follow me
أَهْدِكَ I will guide you ahdika
I will guide you
صِرَٰطًۭا (to) the path ṣirāṭan
(to) the path
سَوِيًّۭا even sawiyyan
even
٤٣ (43)
(43)
O my father, indeed there has come to me of knowledge that which has not come to you, so follow me; I will guide you to an even path.
19:44
يَـٰٓأَبَتِ O my father yāabati
O my father
لَا (Do) not
(Do) not
تَعْبُدِ worship taʿbudi
worship
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ ۖ the Shaitaan l-shayṭāna
the Shaitaan
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ the Shaitaan l-shayṭāna
the Shaitaan
كَانَ is kāna
is
لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ to the Most Gracious lilrraḥmāni
to the Most Gracious
عَصِيًّۭا disobedient ʿaṣiyyan
disobedient
٤٤ (44)
(44)
O my father, do not worship [i.e., obey] Satan. Indeed Satan has ever been, to the Most Merciful, disobedient.
19:45
يَـٰٓأَبَتِ O my father yāabati
O my father
إِنِّىٓ Indeed, I innī
Indeed, I
أَخَافُ [I] fear akhāfu
[I] fear
أَن that an
that
يَمَسَّكَ will touch you yamassaka
will touch you
عَذَابٌۭ a punishment ʿadhābun
a punishment
مِّنَ from mina
from
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
فَتَكُونَ so you would be fatakūna
so you would be
لِلشَّيْطَـٰنِ to the Shaitaan lilshayṭāni
to the Shaitaan
وَلِيًّۭا a friend waliyyan
a friend
٤٥ (45)
(45)
O my father, indeed I fear that there will touch you a punishment from the Most Merciful so you would be to Satan a companion [in Hellfire]."
19:46
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
أَرَاغِبٌ Do you hate arāghibun
Do you hate
أَنتَ Do you hate anta
Do you hate
عَنْ (from) ʿan
(from)
ءَالِهَتِى my gods ālihatī
my gods
يَـٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُ ۖ O Ibrahim yāib'rāhīmu
O Ibrahim
لَئِن Surely, if la-in
Surely, if
لَّمْ not lam
not
تَنتَهِ you desist tantahi
you desist
لَأَرْجُمَنَّكَ ۖ surely, I will stone you la-arjumannaka
surely, I will stone you
وَٱهْجُرْنِى so leave me wa-uh'jur'nī
so leave me
مَلِيًّۭا (for) a prolonged time maliyyan
(for) a prolonged time
٤٦ (46)
(46)
[His father] said, "Have you no desire for my gods, O Abraham? If you do not desist, I will surely stone you, so avoid me a prolonged time."
19:47
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
سَلَـٰمٌ Peace (be) salāmun
Peace (be)
عَلَيْكَ ۖ on you ʿalayka
on you
سَأَسْتَغْفِرُ I will ask forgiveness sa-astaghfiru
I will ask forgiveness
لَكَ for you laka
for you
رَبِّىٓ ۖ (from) my Lord rabbī
(from) my Lord
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He innahu
Indeed, He
كَانَ is kāna
is
بِى to me
to me
حَفِيًّۭا Ever Gracious ḥafiyyan
Ever Gracious
٤٧ (47)
(47)
[Abraham] said, "Peace [i.e., safety] will be upon you. I will ask forgiveness for you of my Lord. Indeed, He is ever gracious to me.
19:48
وَأَعْتَزِلُكُمْ And I will leave you wa-aʿtazilukum
And I will leave you
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
تَدْعُونَ you invoke tadʿūna
you invoke
مِن besides min
besides
دُونِ besides dūni
besides
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
وَأَدْعُوا۟ and I will invoke wa-adʿū
and I will invoke
رَبِّى my Lord rabbī
my Lord
عَسَىٰٓ May be ʿasā
May be
أَلَّآ that not allā
that not
أَكُونَ I will be akūna
I will be
بِدُعَآءِ in invocation biduʿāi
in invocation
رَبِّى (to) my Lord rabbī
(to) my Lord
شَقِيًّۭا unblessed shaqiyyan
unblessed
٤٨ (48)
(48)
And I will leave you and those you invoke other than Allāh and will invoke my Lord. I expect that I will not be in invocation to my Lord unhappy [i.e., disappointed]."
19:49
فَلَمَّا So when falammā
So when
ٱعْتَزَلَهُمْ he left them iʿ'tazalahum
he left them
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
يَعْبُدُونَ they worshipped yaʿbudūna
they worshipped
مِن besides Allah min
besides Allah
دُونِ besides Allah dūni
besides Allah
ٱللَّهِ besides Allah l-lahi
besides Allah
وَهَبْنَا [and] We bestowed wahabnā
[and] We bestowed
لَهُۥٓ [to] him lahu
[to] him
إِسْحَـٰقَ Isaac is'ḥāqa
Isaac
وَيَعْقُوبَ ۖ and Yaqub wayaʿqūba
and Yaqub
وَكُلًّۭا and each (of them) wakullan
and each (of them)
جَعَلْنَا We made jaʿalnā
We made
نَبِيًّۭا a Prophet nabiyyan
a Prophet
٤٩ (49)
(49)
So when he had left them and those they worshipped other than Allāh, We gave him Isaac and Jacob, and each [of them] We made a prophet.
19:50
وَوَهَبْنَا And We bestowed wawahabnā
And We bestowed
لَهُم to them lahum
to them
مِّن of min
of
رَّحْمَتِنَا Our Mercy raḥmatinā
Our Mercy
وَجَعَلْنَا and We made wajaʿalnā
and We made
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
لِسَانَ a truthful mention lisāna
a truthful mention
صِدْقٍ a truthful mention ṣid'qin
a truthful mention
عَلِيًّۭا high ʿaliyyan
high
٥٠ (50)
(50)
And We gave them of Our mercy, and We made for them a mention [i.e., reputation] of high honor.
19:51
وَٱذْكُرْ And mention wa-udh'kur
And mention
فِى in
in
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ the Book l-kitābi
the Book
مُوسَىٰٓ ۚ Musa mūsā
Musa
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he innahu
Indeed, he
كَانَ was kāna
was
مُخْلَصًۭا chosen mukh'laṣan
chosen
وَكَانَ and was wakāna
and was
رَسُولًۭا a Messenger rasūlan
a Messenger
نَّبِيًّۭا a Prophet nabiyyan
a Prophet
٥١ (51)
(51)
And mention in the Book, Moses. Indeed, he was chosen, and he was a messenger and a prophet.
19:52
وَنَـٰدَيْنَـٰهُ And We called him wanādaynāhu
And We called him
مِن from min
from
جَانِبِ (the) side jānibi
(the) side
ٱلطُّورِ (of) the Mount l-ṭūri
(of) the Mount
ٱلْأَيْمَنِ the right l-aymani
the right
وَقَرَّبْنَـٰهُ and brought him near waqarrabnāhu
and brought him near
نَجِيًّۭا (for) conversation najiyyan
(for) conversation
٥٢ (52)
(52)
And We called him from the side of the mount at [his] right and brought him near, confiding [to him].
19:53
وَوَهَبْنَا And We bestowed wawahabnā
And We bestowed
لَهُۥ [to] him lahu
[to] him
مِن from min
from
رَّحْمَتِنَآ Our Mercy raḥmatinā
Our Mercy
أَخَاهُ his brother akhāhu
his brother
هَـٰرُونَ Harun hārūna
Harun
نَبِيًّۭا a Prophet nabiyyan
a Prophet
٥٣ (53)
(53)
And We gave him out of Our mercy his brother Aaron as a prophet.
19:54
وَٱذْكُرْ And mention wa-udh'kur
And mention
فِى in
in
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ the Book l-kitābi
the Book
إِسْمَـٰعِيلَ ۚ Ishmael is'māʿīla
Ishmael
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he innahu
Indeed, he
كَانَ was kāna
was
صَادِقَ true ṣādiqa
true
ٱلْوَعْدِ (to his) promise l-waʿdi
(to his) promise
وَكَانَ and was wakāna
and was
رَسُولًۭا a Messenger rasūlan
a Messenger
نَّبِيًّۭا a Prophet nabiyyan
a Prophet
٥٤ (54)
(54)
And mention in the Book, Ishmael. Indeed, he was true to his promise, and he was a messenger and a prophet.
19:55
وَكَانَ And he used wakāna
And he used
يَأْمُرُ (to) enjoin yamuru
(to) enjoin
أَهْلَهُۥ (on) his people ahlahu
(on) his people
بِٱلصَّلَوٰةِ the prayer bil-ṣalati
the prayer
وَٱلزَّكَوٰةِ and zakah wal-zakati
and zakah
وَكَانَ and was wakāna
and was
عِندَ near ʿinda
near
رَبِّهِۦ his Lord rabbihi
his Lord
مَرْضِيًّۭا pleasing marḍiyyan
pleasing
٥٥ (55)
(55)
And he used to enjoin on his people prayer and zakāh and was to his Lord pleasing [i.e., accepted by Him].
19:56
وَٱذْكُرْ And mention wa-udh'kur
And mention
فِى in
in
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ the Book l-kitābi
the Book
إِدْرِيسَ ۚ Idris id'rīsa
Idris
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he innahu
Indeed, he
كَانَ was kāna
was
صِدِّيقًۭا truthful ṣiddīqan
truthful
نَّبِيًّۭا a Prophet nabiyyan
a Prophet
٥٦ (56)
(56)
And mention in the Book, Idrees. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet.
19:57
وَرَفَعْنَـٰهُ And We raised him warafaʿnāhu
And We raised him
مَكَانًا (to) a position makānan
(to) a position
عَلِيًّا high ʿaliyyan
high
٥٧ (57)
(57)
And We raised him to a high station.
19:58
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
ٱلَّذِينَ (were) the ones whom alladhīna
(were) the ones whom
أَنْعَمَ Allah bestowed favor anʿama
Allah bestowed favor
ٱللَّهُ Allah bestowed favor l-lahu
Allah bestowed favor
عَلَيْهِم upon them ʿalayhim
upon them
مِّنَ from (among) mina
from (among)
ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ the Prophets l-nabiyīna
the Prophets
مِن of min
of
ذُرِّيَّةِ (the) offspring dhurriyyati
(the) offspring
ءَادَمَ (of) Adam ādama
(of) Adam
وَمِمَّنْ and of those wamimman
and of those
حَمَلْنَا We carried ḥamalnā
We carried
مَعَ with maʿa
with
نُوحٍۢ Nuh nūḥin
Nuh
وَمِن and of wamin
and of
ذُرِّيَّةِ (the) offspring dhurriyyati
(the) offspring
إِبْرَٰهِيمَ (of) Ibrahim ib'rāhīma
(of) Ibrahim
وَإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ and Israel wa-is'rāīla
and Israel
وَمِمَّنْ and of (those) whom wamimman
and of (those) whom
هَدَيْنَا We guided hadaynā
We guided
وَٱجْتَبَيْنَآ ۚ and We chose wa-ij'tabaynā
and We chose
إِذَا When idhā
When
تُتْلَىٰ were recited tut'lā
were recited
عَلَيْهِمْ to them ʿalayhim
to them
ءَايَـٰتُ (the) Verses āyātu
(the) Verses
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ (of) the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
(of) the Most Gracious
خَرُّوا۟ they fell kharrū
they fell
سُجَّدًۭا prostrating sujjadan
prostrating
وَبُكِيًّۭا ۩ and weeping wabukiyyan
and weeping
٥٨ (58)
(58)
Those were the ones upon whom Allāh bestowed favor from among the prophets of the descendants of Adam and of those We carried [in the ship] with Noah, and of the descendants of Abraham and Israel [i.e., Jacob], and of those whom We guided and chose. When the verses of the Most Merciful were recited to them, they fell in prostration and weeping.
19:59
۞ فَخَلَفَ Then succeeded fakhalafa
Then succeeded
مِنۢ after them min
after them
بَعْدِهِمْ after them baʿdihim
after them
خَلْفٌ successors khalfun
successors
أَضَاعُوا۟ who neglected aḍāʿū
who neglected
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer l-ṣalata
the prayer
وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ and they followed wa-ittabaʿū
and they followed
ٱلشَّهَوَٰتِ ۖ the lusts l-shahawāti
the lusts
فَسَوْفَ so soon fasawfa
so soon
يَلْقَوْنَ they will meet yalqawna
they will meet
غَيًّا evil ghayyan
evil
٥٩ (59)
(59)
But there came after them successors [i.e., later generations] who neglected prayer and pursued desires; so they are going to meet evil -
19:60
إِلَّا Except illā
Except
مَن (one) who man
(one) who
تَابَ repented tāba
repented
وَءَامَنَ and believed waāmana
and believed
وَعَمِلَ and did waʿamila
and did
صَـٰلِحًۭا good (deeds) ṣāliḥan
good (deeds)
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Then those fa-ulāika
Then those
يَدْخُلُونَ will enter yadkhulūna
will enter
ٱلْجَنَّةَ Paradise l-janata
Paradise
وَلَا and not walā
and not
يُظْلَمُونَ they will be wronged yuẓ'lamūna
they will be wronged
شَيْـًۭٔا (in) anything shayan
(in) anything
٦٠ (60)
(60)
Except those who repent, believe and do righteousness; for those will enter Paradise and will not be wronged at all.
19:61
جَنَّـٰتِ Gardens jannāti
Gardens
عَدْنٍ (of) Eden ʿadnin
(of) Eden
ٱلَّتِى which allatī
which
وَعَدَ promised waʿada
promised
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ the Most Gracious l-raḥmānu
the Most Gracious
عِبَادَهُۥ (to) His slaves ʿibādahu
(to) His slaves
بِٱلْغَيْبِ ۚ in the unseen bil-ghaybi
in the unseen
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, [it] innahu
Indeed, [it]
كَانَ is kāna
is
وَعْدُهُۥ His promise waʿduhu
His promise
مَأْتِيًّۭا sure to come matiyyan
sure to come
٦١ (61)
(61)
[Therein are] gardens of perpetual residence which the Most Merciful has promised His servants in the unseen. Indeed, His promise has ever been eminent.
19:62
لَّا Not
Not
يَسْمَعُونَ they will hear yasmaʿūna
they will hear
فِيهَا therein fīhā
therein
لَغْوًا vain talk laghwan
vain talk
إِلَّا but illā
but
سَلَـٰمًۭا ۖ peace salāman
peace
وَلَهُمْ And for them walahum
And for them
رِزْقُهُمْ (is) their provision riz'quhum
(is) their provision
فِيهَا therein fīhā
therein
بُكْرَةًۭ morning buk'ratan
morning
وَعَشِيًّۭا and evening waʿashiyyan
and evening
٦٢ (62)
(62)
They will not hear therein any ill speech - only [greetings of] peace - and they will have their provision therein, morning and afternoon.
19:63
تِلْكَ This til'ka
This
ٱلْجَنَّةُ (is) Paradise l-janatu
(is) Paradise
ٱلَّتِى which allatī
which
نُورِثُ We give (as) inheritance nūrithu
We give (as) inheritance
مِنْ [of] (to) min
[of] (to)
عِبَادِنَا Our slaves ʿibādinā
Our slaves
مَن (the one) who man
(the one) who
كَانَ is kāna
is
تَقِيًّۭا righteous taqiyyan
righteous
٦٣ (63)
(63)
That is Paradise, which We give as inheritance to those of Our servants who were fearing of Allāh.
19:64
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
نَتَنَزَّلُ we descend natanazzalu
we descend
إِلَّا except illā
except
بِأَمْرِ by (the) Command bi-amri
by (the) Command
رَبِّكَ ۖ (of) your Lord rabbika
(of) your Lord
لَهُۥ To Him (belongs) lahu
To Him (belongs)
مَا what
what
بَيْنَ (is) before us bayna
(is) before us
أَيْدِينَا (is) before us aydīnā
(is) before us
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
خَلْفَنَا (is) behind us khalfanā
(is) behind us
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
بَيْنَ (is) between bayna
(is) between
ذَٰلِكَ ۚ that dhālika
that
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
كَانَ is kāna
is
رَبُّكَ your Lord rabbuka
your Lord
نَسِيًّۭا forgetful nasiyyan
forgetful
٦٤ (64)
(64)
[Gabriel said], "And we [angels] descend not except by the order of your Lord. To Him belongs that before us and that behind us and what is in between. And never is your Lord forgetful -
19:65
رَّبُّ Lord rabbu
Lord
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
وَمَا and whatever wamā
and whatever
بَيْنَهُمَا (is) between both of them baynahumā
(is) between both of them
فَٱعْبُدْهُ so worship Him fa-uʿ'bud'hu
so worship Him
وَٱصْطَبِرْ and be constant wa-iṣ'ṭabir
and be constant
لِعِبَـٰدَتِهِۦ ۚ in His worship liʿibādatihi
in His worship
هَلْ Do hal
Do
تَعْلَمُ you know taʿlamu
you know
لَهُۥ for Him lahu
for Him
سَمِيًّۭا any similarity samiyyan
any similarity
٦٥ (65)
(65)
Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them - so worship Him and have patience for His worship. Do you know of any similarity to Him?"
19:66
وَيَقُولُ And says wayaqūlu
And says
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ [the] man l-insānu
[the] man
أَءِذَا What! When a-idhā
What! When
مَا What! When
What! When
مِتُّ I am dead mittu
I am dead
لَسَوْفَ surely will lasawfa
surely will
أُخْرَجُ I be brought forth ukh'raju
I be brought forth
حَيًّا alive ḥayyan
alive
٦٦ (66)
(66)
And man [i.e., the disbeliever] says, "When I have died, am I going to be brought forth alive?"
19:67
أَوَلَا Does not awalā
Does not
يَذْكُرُ remember yadhkuru
remember
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ [the] man l-insānu
[the] man
أَنَّا that We annā
that We
خَلَقْنَـٰهُ We created him khalaqnāhu
We created him
مِن before min
before
قَبْلُ before qablu
before
وَلَمْ while not walam
while not

٦٧ (67)
(67)
Does man not remember that We created him before, while he was nothing?
19:68
فَوَرَبِّكَ So by your Lord fawarabbika
So by your Lord
لَنَحْشُرَنَّهُمْ surely, We will gather them lanaḥshurannahum
surely, We will gather them
وَٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ and the devils wal-shayāṭīna
and the devils
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
لَنُحْضِرَنَّهُمْ surely, We will bring them lanuḥ'ḍirannahum
surely, We will bring them
حَوْلَ around ḥawla
around
جَهَنَّمَ Hell jahannama
Hell
جِثِيًّۭا bent (on) knees jithiyyan
bent (on) knees
٦٨ (68)
(68)
So by your Lord, We will surely gather them and the devils; then We will bring them to be present around Hell upon their knees.
19:69
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
لَنَنزِعَنَّ surely, We will drag out lananziʿanna
surely, We will drag out
مِن from min
from
كُلِّ every kulli
every
شِيعَةٍ sect shīʿatin
sect
أَيُّهُمْ those of them ayyuhum
those of them
أَشَدُّ (who were) worst ashaddu
(who were) worst
عَلَى against ʿalā
against
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
عِتِيًّۭا (in) rebellion ʿitiyyan
(in) rebellion
٦٩ (69)
(69)
Then We will surely extract from every sect those of them who were worst against the Most Merciful in insolence.
19:70
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
لَنَحْنُ surely, We lanaḥnu
surely, We
أَعْلَمُ know best aʿlamu
know best
بِٱلَّذِينَ [of] those who bi-alladhīna
[of] those who
هُمْ [they] hum
[they]
أَوْلَىٰ (are) most worthy awlā
(are) most worthy
بِهَا therein bihā
therein
صِلِيًّۭا (of) being burnt ṣiliyyan
(of) being burnt
٧٠ (70)
(70)
Then, surely it is We who are most knowing of those most worthy of burning therein.
19:71
وَإِن And (there is) not wa-in
And (there is) not
مِّنكُمْ (any) of you minkum
(any) of you
إِلَّا but illā
but
وَارِدُهَا ۚ (will be) passing over it wāriduhā
(will be) passing over it
كَانَ (This) is kāna
(This) is
عَلَىٰ upon ʿalā
upon
رَبِّكَ your Lord rabbika
your Lord
حَتْمًۭا an inevitability ḥatman
an inevitability
مَّقْضِيًّۭا decreed maqḍiyyan
decreed
٧١ (71)
(71)
And there is none of you except he will come to it. This is upon your Lord an inevitability decreed.
19:72
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
نُنَجِّى We will deliver nunajjī
We will deliver
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ٱتَّقَوا۟ feared (Allah) ittaqaw
feared (Allah)
وَّنَذَرُ and We will leave wanadharu
and We will leave
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
فِيهَا therein fīhā
therein
جِثِيًّۭا bent (on) knees jithiyyan
bent (on) knees
٧٢ (72)
(72)
Then We will save those who feared Allāh and leave the wrongdoers within it, on their knees.
19:73
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when
تُتْلَىٰ are recited tut'lā
are recited
عَلَيْهِمْ to them ʿalayhim
to them
ءَايَـٰتُنَا Our Verses āyātunā
Our Verses
بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ clear bayyinātin
clear
قَالَ say qāla
say
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved
لِلَّذِينَ to those who lilladhīna
to those who
ءَامَنُوٓا۟ believed āmanū
believed
أَىُّ Which ayyu
Which
ٱلْفَرِيقَيْنِ (of) the two groups l-farīqayni
(of) the two groups
خَيْرٌۭ (is) better khayrun
(is) better
مَّقَامًۭا (in) position maqāman
(in) position
وَأَحْسَنُ and best wa-aḥsanu
and best
نَدِيًّۭا (in) assembly nadiyyan
(in) assembly
٧٣ (73)
(73)
And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Which of [our] two parties is best in position and best in association?"1
19:74
وَكَمْ And how many wakam
And how many
أَهْلَكْنَا We destroyed ahlaknā
We destroyed
قَبْلَهُم before them qablahum
before them
مِّن of min
of
قَرْنٍ a generation qarnin
a generation
هُمْ they hum
they
أَحْسَنُ (were) better aḥsanu
(were) better
أَثَـٰثًۭا (in) possessions athāthan
(in) possessions
وَرِءْيًۭا and appearance wari'yan
and appearance
٧٤ (74)
(74)
And how many a generation have We destroyed before them who were better in possessions and [outward] appearance?
19:75
قُلْ Say qul
Say
مَن Whoever man
Whoever
كَانَ is kāna
is
فِى in
in
ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةِ [the] error l-ḍalālati
[the] error
فَلْيَمْدُدْ then surely will extend falyamdud
then surely will extend
لَهُ for him lahu
for him
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ the Most Gracious l-raḥmānu
the Most Gracious
مَدًّا ۚ an extension maddan
an extension
حَتَّىٰٓ until ḥattā
until
إِذَا when idhā
when
رَأَوْا۟ they see ra-aw
they see
مَا what
what
يُوعَدُونَ they were promised yūʿadūna
they were promised
إِمَّا either immā
either
ٱلْعَذَابَ the punishment l-ʿadhāba
the punishment
وَإِمَّا or wa-immā
or
ٱلسَّاعَةَ the Hour l-sāʿata
the Hour
فَسَيَعْلَمُونَ then they will know fasayaʿlamūna
then they will know
مَنْ who man
who
هُوَ [he] huwa
[he]
شَرٌّۭ (is) worst sharrun
(is) worst
مَّكَانًۭا (in) position makānan
(in) position
وَأَضْعَفُ and weaker wa-aḍʿafu
and weaker
جُندًۭا (in) forces jundan
(in) forces
٧٥ (75)
(75)
Say, "Whoever is in error - let the Most Merciful extend for him an extension [in wealth and time] until, when they see that which they were promised - either punishment [in this world] or the Hour [of resurrection] - they will come to know who is worst in position and weaker in soldiers."
19:76
وَيَزِيدُ And Allah increases wayazīdu
And Allah increases
ٱللَّهُ And Allah increases l-lahu
And Allah increases
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ٱهْتَدَوْا۟ accept guidance ih'tadaw
accept guidance
هُدًۭى ۗ (in) guidance hudan
(in) guidance
وَٱلْبَـٰقِيَـٰتُ And the everlasting wal-bāqiyātu
And the everlasting
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتُ good deeds l-ṣāliḥātu
good deeds
خَيْرٌ (are) better khayrun
(are) better
عِندَ near ʿinda
near
رَبِّكَ your Lord rabbika
your Lord
ثَوَابًۭا (for) reward thawāban
(for) reward
وَخَيْرٌۭ and better wakhayrun
and better
مَّرَدًّا (for) return maraddan
(for) return
٧٦ (76)
(76)
And Allāh increases those who were guided, in guidance, and the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for recourse.
19:77
أَفَرَءَيْتَ Then, have you seen afara-ayta
Then, have you seen
ٱلَّذِى he who alladhī
he who
كَفَرَ disbelieved kafara
disbelieved
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا in Our Verses biāyātinā
in Our Verses
وَقَالَ and said waqāla
and said
لَأُوتَيَنَّ Surely, I will be given laūtayanna
Surely, I will be given
مَالًۭا wealth mālan
wealth
وَوَلَدًا and children wawaladan
and children
٧٧ (77)
(77)
Then, have you seen he who disbelieved in Our verses and said, "I will surely be given wealth and children [in the next life]"?
19:78
أَطَّلَعَ Has he looked aṭṭalaʿa
Has he looked
ٱلْغَيْبَ (into) the unseen l-ghayba
(into) the unseen
أَمِ or ami
or
ٱتَّخَذَ has he taken ittakhadha
has he taken
عِندَ from ʿinda
from
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
عَهْدًۭا a promise ʿahdan
a promise
٧٨ (78)
(78)
Has he looked into the unseen, or has he taken from the Most Merciful a promise?
19:79
كَلَّا ۚ Nay kallā
Nay
سَنَكْتُبُ We will record sanaktubu
We will record
مَا what
what
يَقُولُ he says yaqūlu
he says
وَنَمُدُّ and We will extend wanamuddu
and We will extend
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلْعَذَابِ the punishment l-ʿadhābi
the punishment
مَدًّۭا extensively maddan
extensively
٧٩ (79)
(79)
No! We will record what he says and extend [i.e., increase] for him from the punishment extensively.
19:80
وَنَرِثُهُۥ And We will inherit (from) him wanarithuhu
And We will inherit (from) him
مَا what
what
يَقُولُ he says yaqūlu
he says
وَيَأْتِينَا and he will come to Us wayatīnā
and he will come to Us
فَرْدًۭا alone fardan
alone
٨٠ (80)
(80)
And We will inherit him [in] what he mentions, and he will come to Us alone.
19:81
وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟ And they have taken wa-ittakhadhū
And they have taken
مِن besides Allah min
besides Allah
دُونِ besides Allah dūni
besides Allah
ٱللَّهِ besides Allah l-lahi
besides Allah
ءَالِهَةًۭ gods ālihatan
gods
لِّيَكُونُوا۟ that they may be liyakūnū
that they may be
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
عِزًّۭا an honor ʿizzan
an honor
٨١ (81)
(81)
And they have taken besides Allāh [false] deities that they would be for them [a source of] honor.
19:82
كَلَّا ۚ Nay kallā
Nay
سَيَكْفُرُونَ they will deny sayakfurūna
they will deny
بِعِبَادَتِهِمْ their worship (of them) biʿibādatihim
their worship (of them)
وَيَكُونُونَ and they will be wayakūnūna
and they will be
عَلَيْهِمْ against them ʿalayhim
against them
ضِدًّا opponents ḍiddan
opponents
٨٢ (82)
(82)
No! They [i.e., those "gods"] will deny their worship of them and will be against them opponents [on the Day of Judgement].
19:83
أَلَمْ Do not alam
Do not
تَرَ you see tara
you see
أَنَّآ that We annā
that We
أَرْسَلْنَا [We] have sent arsalnā
[We] have sent
ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ the devils l-shayāṭīna
the devils
عَلَى upon ʿalā
upon
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ the disbelievers l-kāfirīna
the disbelievers
تَؤُزُّهُمْ inciting them ta-uzzuhum
inciting them
أَزًّۭا (with) incitement azzan
(with) incitement
٨٣ (83)
(83)
Do you not see that We have sent the devils upon the disbelievers, inciting them [to evil] with [constant] incitement?
19:84
فَلَا So (do) not falā
So (do) not
تَعْجَلْ make haste taʿjal
make haste
عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ against them ʿalayhim
against them
إِنَّمَا Only innamā
Only
نَعُدُّ We count naʿuddu
We count
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
عَدًّۭا a number ʿaddan
a number
٨٤ (84)
(84)
So be not impatient over them. We only count out [i.e., allow] to them a [limited] number.
19:85
يَوْمَ (The) Day yawma
(The) Day
نَحْشُرُ We will gather naḥshuru
We will gather
ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ the righteous l-mutaqīna
the righteous
إِلَى to ilā
to
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
وَفْدًۭا (as) a delegation wafdan
(as) a delegation
٨٥ (85)
(85)
On the Day We will gather the righteous to the Most Merciful as a delegation
19:86
وَنَسُوقُ And We will drive wanasūqu
And We will drive
ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ the criminals l-muj'rimīna
the criminals
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
جَهَنَّمَ Hell jahannama
Hell
وِرْدًۭا thirsty wir'dan
thirsty
٨٦ (86)
(86)
And will drive the criminals to Hell in thirst
19:87
لَّا Not
Not
يَمْلِكُونَ they will have the power yamlikūna
they will have the power
ٱلشَّفَـٰعَةَ (of) the intercession l-shafāʿata
(of) the intercession
إِلَّا except illā
except
مَنِ (he) who mani
(he) who
ٱتَّخَذَ has taken ittakhadha
has taken
عِندَ from ʿinda
from
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
عَهْدًۭا a covenant ʿahdan
a covenant
٨٧ (87)
(87)
None will have [power of] intercession except he who had taken from the Most Merciful a covenant.
19:88
وَقَالُوا۟ And they say waqālū
And they say
ٱتَّخَذَ Has taken ittakhadha
Has taken
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ the Most Gracious l-raḥmānu
the Most Gracious
وَلَدًۭا a son waladan
a son
٨٨ (88)
(88)
And they say, "The Most Merciful has taken [for Himself] a son."
19:89
لَّقَدْ Verily laqad
Verily
جِئْتُمْ you have put forth ji'tum
you have put forth
شَيْـًٔا a thing shayan
a thing
إِدًّۭا atrocious iddan
atrocious
٨٩ (89)
(89)
You have done an atrocious thing.
19:90
تَكَادُ Almost takādu
Almost
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ the heavens l-samāwātu
the heavens
يَتَفَطَّرْنَ get torn yatafaṭṭarna
get torn
مِنْهُ therefrom min'hu
therefrom
وَتَنشَقُّ and splits asunder watanshaqqu
and splits asunder
ٱلْأَرْضُ the earth l-arḍu
the earth
وَتَخِرُّ and collapse watakhirru
and collapse
ٱلْجِبَالُ the mountain l-jibālu
the mountain
هَدًّا (in) devastation haddan
(in) devastation
٩٠ (90)
(90)
The heavens almost rupture therefrom and the earth splits open and the mountains collapse in devastation
19:91
أَن That an
That
دَعَوْا۟ they invoke daʿaw
they invoke
لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ to the Most Gracious lilrraḥmāni
to the Most Gracious
وَلَدًۭا a son waladan
a son
٩١ (91)
(91)
That they attribute to the Most Merciful a son.
19:92
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
يَنۢبَغِى is appropriate yanbaghī
is appropriate
لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ for the Most Gracious lilrraḥmāni
for the Most Gracious
أَن that an
that
يَتَّخِذَ He should take yattakhidha
He should take
وَلَدًا a son waladan
a son
٩٢ (92)
(92)
And it is not appropriate for the Most Merciful that He should take a son.
19:93
إِن Not in
Not
كُلُّ all kullu
all
مَن who man
who
فِى (are) in
(are) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
إِلَّآ but illā
but
ءَاتِى (will) come ātī
(will) come
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ (to) the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
(to) the Most Gracious
عَبْدًۭا (as) a slave ʿabdan
(as) a slave
٩٣ (93)
(93)
There is no one in the heavens and earth but that he comes to the Most Merciful as a servant.
19:94
لَّقَدْ Verily laqad
Verily
أَحْصَىٰهُمْ He has enumerated them aḥṣāhum
He has enumerated them
وَعَدَّهُمْ and counted them waʿaddahum
and counted them
عَدًّۭا a counting ʿaddan
a counting
٩٤ (94)
(94)
He has enumerated them and counted them a [full] counting.
19:95
وَكُلُّهُمْ And all of them wakulluhum
And all of them
ءَاتِيهِ (will) come (to) Him ātīhi
(will) come (to) Him
يَوْمَ (on the) Day yawma
(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
فَرْدًا alone fardan
alone
٩٥ (95)
(95)
And all of them are coming to Him on the Day of Resurrection alone.
19:96
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believed āmanū
believed
وَعَمِلُوا۟ and did waʿamilū
and did
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ good deeds l-ṣāliḥāti
good deeds
سَيَجْعَلُ will bestow sayajʿalu
will bestow
لَهُمُ for them lahumu
for them
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ the Most Gracious l-raḥmānu
the Most Gracious
وُدًّۭا affection wuddan
affection
٩٦ (96)
(96)
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - the Most Merciful will appoint for them affection.
19:97
فَإِنَّمَا So, only fa-innamā
So, only
يَسَّرْنَـٰهُ We (have) made it easy yassarnāhu
We (have) made it easy
بِلِسَانِكَ in your tongue bilisānika
in your tongue
لِتُبَشِّرَ that you may give glad tidings litubashira
that you may give glad tidings
بِهِ with it bihi
with it
ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ (to) the righteous l-mutaqīna
(to) the righteous
وَتُنذِرَ and warn watundhira
and warn
بِهِۦ with it bihi
with it
قَوْمًۭا a people qawman
a people
لُّدًّۭا hostile luddan
hostile
٩٧ (97)
(97)
So, [O Muḥammad], We have only made it [i.e., the Qur’ān] easy in your tongue [i.e., the Arabic language] that you may give good tidings thereby to the righteous and warn thereby a hostile people.
19:98
وَكَمْ And how many wakam
And how many
أَهْلَكْنَا We (have) destroyed ahlaknā
We (have) destroyed
قَبْلَهُم before them qablahum
before them
مِّن of min
of
قَرْنٍ a generation qarnin
a generation
هَلْ Can hal
Can
تُحِسُّ you perceive tuḥissu
you perceive
مِنْهُم of them min'hum
of them
مِّنْ any min
any
أَحَدٍ one aḥadin
one
أَوْ or aw
or
تَسْمَعُ hear tasmaʿu
hear
لَهُمْ from them lahum
from them
رِكْزًۢا a sound rik'zan
a sound
٩٨ (98)
(98)
And how many have We destroyed before them of generations? Do you perceive of them anyone or hear from them a sound?
