بِسْمِ In (the) name bis'mi
In (the) name
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
٨٠:١
عَبَسَ He frowned ʿabasa
He frowned
وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ and turned away watawallā
and turned away
١ (1)
(1)
He [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ) ] frowned and turned away
٨٠:٢
أَن Because an
Because
جَآءَهُ came to him jāahu
came to him
ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ the blind man l-aʿmā
the blind man
٢ (2)
(2)
Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting].
٨٠:٣
وَمَا But what wamā
But what
يُدْرِيكَ would make you know yud'rīka
would make you know
لَعَلَّهُۥ that he might laʿallahu
that he might
يَزَّكَّىٰٓ purify himself yazzakkā
purify himself
٣ (3)
(3)
But what would make you perceive, [O Muḥammad], that perhaps he might be purified
٨٠:٤
أَوْ Or aw
Or
يَذَّكَّرُ be reminded yadhakkaru
be reminded
فَتَنفَعَهُ so would benefit him fatanfaʿahu
so would benefit him
ٱلذِّكْرَىٰٓ the reminder l-dhik'rā
the reminder
٤ (4)
(4)
Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him?
٨٠:٥
أَمَّا As for ammā
As for
مَنِ (him) who mani
(him) who
ٱسْتَغْنَىٰ considers himself free from need is'taghnā
considers himself free from need
٥ (5)
(5)
As for he who thinks himself without need,
٨٠:٦
فَأَنتَ So you fa-anta
So you
لَهُۥ to him lahu
to him
تَصَدَّىٰ give attention taṣaddā
give attention
٦ (6)
(6)
To him you give attention.
٨٠:٧
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
عَلَيْكَ upon you ʿalayka
upon you
أَلَّا that not allā
that not
يَزَّكَّىٰ he purifies himself yazzakkā
he purifies himself
٧ (7)
(7)
And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified.
٨٠:٨
وَأَمَّا But as for wa-ammā
But as for
مَن (he) who man
(he) who
جَآءَكَ came to you jāaka
came to you
يَسْعَىٰ striving yasʿā
striving
٨ (8)
(8)
But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge]
٨٠:٩
وَهُوَ While he wahuwa
While he
يَخْشَىٰ fears yakhshā
fears
٩ (9)
(9)
While he fears [Allāh],
٨٠:١٠
فَأَنتَ But you fa-anta
But you
عَنْهُ from him ʿanhu
from him
تَلَهَّىٰ (are) distracted talahhā
(are) distracted
١٠ (10)
(10)
From him you are distracted.
٨٠:١١
كَلَّآ Nay kallā
Nay
إِنَّهَا Indeed, it innahā
Indeed, it
تَذْكِرَةٌۭ (is) a reminder tadhkiratun
(is) a reminder
١١ (11)
(11)
No! Indeed, they [i.e., these verses] are a reminder;
٨٠:١٢
فَمَن So whosoever faman
So whosoever
شَآءَ wills shāa
wills
ذَكَرَهُۥ may remember it dhakarahu
may remember it
١٢ (12)
(12)
So whoever wills may remember it.
٨٠:١٣
فِى In
In
صُحُفٍۢ sheets ṣuḥufin
sheets
مُّكَرَّمَةٍۢ honored mukarramatin
honored
١٣ (13)
(13)
[It is recorded] in honored sheets,
٨٠:١٤
مَّرْفُوعَةٍۢ Exalted marfūʿatin
Exalted
مُّطَهَّرَةٍۭ purified muṭahharatin
purified
١٤ (14)
(14)
Exalted and purified,
٨٠:١٥
بِأَيْدِى In (the) hands bi-aydī
In (the) hands
سَفَرَةٍۢ (of) scribes safaratin
(of) scribes
١٥ (15)
(15)
[Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels,
٨٠:١٦
كِرَامٍۭ Noble kirāmin
Noble
بَرَرَةٍۢ dutiful bararatin
dutiful
١٦ (16)
(16)
Noble and dutiful.
٨٠:١٧
قُتِلَ Is destroyed qutila
Is destroyed
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ [the] man l-insānu
[the] man
مَآ how
how
أَكْفَرَهُۥ ungrateful is he akfarahu
ungrateful is he
١٧ (17)
(17)
Destroyed [i.e., cursed] is man; how disbelieving is he.
٨٠:١٨
مِنْ From min
From
أَىِّ what ayyi
what
شَىْءٍ thing shayin
thing
خَلَقَهُۥ He created him khalaqahu
He created him
١٨ (18)
(18)
From what thing [i.e., substance] did He create him?
٨٠:١٩
مِن From min
From
نُّطْفَةٍ a semen-drop nuṭ'fatin
a semen-drop
خَلَقَهُۥ He created him khalaqahu
He created him
فَقَدَّرَهُۥ then He proportioned him faqaddarahu
then He proportioned him
١٩ (19)
(19)
From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him;
٨٠:٢٠
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
ٱلسَّبِيلَ the way l-sabīla
the way
يَسَّرَهُۥ He made easy for him yassarahu
He made easy for him
٢٠ (20)
(20)
Then He eased the way for him;
٨٠:٢١
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
أَمَاتَهُۥ He causes him to die amātahu
He causes him to die
فَأَقْبَرَهُۥ and provides a grave for him fa-aqbarahu
and provides a grave for him
٢١ (21)
(21)
Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him.
٨٠:٢٢
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
إِذَا when idhā
when
شَآءَ He wills shāa
He wills
أَنشَرَهُۥ He will resurrect him ansharahu
He will resurrect him
٢٢ (22)
(22)
Then when He wills, He will resurrect him.
٨٠:٢٣
كَلَّا Nay kallā
Nay
لَمَّا Not lammā
Not
يَقْضِ he has accomplished yaqḍi
he has accomplished
مَآ what
what
أَمَرَهُۥ He commanded him amarahu
He commanded him
٢٣ (23)
(23)
No! He [i.e., man] has not yet accomplished what He commanded him.
٨٠:٢٤
فَلْيَنظُرِ Then let look falyanẓuri
Then let look
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ the man l-insānu
the man
إِلَىٰ at ilā
at
طَعَامِهِۦٓ his food ṭaʿāmihi
his food
٢٤ (24)
(24)
Then let mankind look at his food -
٨٠:٢٥
اَنَّا That [We] annā
That [We]
صَبَبْنَا [We] poured ṣababnā
[We] poured
ٱلْمَآءَ the water l-māa
the water
صَبًّۭا (in) abundance ṣabban
(in) abundance
٢٥ (25)
(25)
How We poured down water in torrents,
٨٠:٢٦
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
شَقَقْنَا We cleaved shaqaqnā
We cleaved
ٱلْأَرْضَ the earth l-arḍa
the earth
شَقًّۭا splitting shaqqan
splitting
٢٦ (26)
(26)
Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts],
٨٠:٢٧
فَأَنۢبَتْنَا Then We caused to grow fa-anbatnā
Then We caused to grow
فِيهَا therein fīhā
therein
حَبًّۭا grain ḥabban
grain
٢٧ (27)
(27)
And caused to grow within it grain
٨٠:٢٨
وَعِنَبًۭا And grapes waʿinaban
And grapes
وَقَضْبًۭا and green fodder waqaḍban
and green fodder
٢٨ (28)
(28)
And grapes and herbage
٨٠:٢٩
وَزَيْتُونًۭا And olive wazaytūnan
And olive
وَنَخْلًۭا and date-palms wanakhlan
and date-palms
٢٩ (29)
(29)
And olive and palm trees
٨٠:٣٠
وَحَدَآئِقَ And gardens waḥadāiqa
And gardens
غُلْبًۭا (of) thick foliage ghul'ban
(of) thick foliage
٣٠ (30)
(30)
And gardens of dense shrubbery
٨٠:٣١
وَفَـٰكِهَةًۭ And fruits wafākihatan
And fruits
وَأَبًّۭا and grass wa-abban
and grass
٣١ (31)
(31)
And fruit and grass -
٨٠:٣٢
مَّتَـٰعًۭا (As) a provision matāʿan
(As) a provision
لَّكُمْ for you lakum
for you
وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْ and for your cattle wali-anʿāmikum
and for your cattle
٣٢ (32)
(32)
[As] enjoyment [i.e., provision] for you and your grazing livestock.
٨٠:٣٣
فَإِذَا But when fa-idhā
But when
جَآءَتِ comes jāati
comes
ٱلصَّآخَّةُ the Deafening Blast l-ṣākhatu
the Deafening Blast
٣٣ (33)
(33)
But when there comes the Deafening Blast
٨٠:٣٤
يَوْمَ (The) Day yawma
(The) Day
يَفِرُّ will flee yafirru
will flee
ٱلْمَرْءُ a man l-maru
a man
مِنْ from min
from
أَخِيهِ his brother akhīhi
his brother
٣٤ (34)
(34)
On the Day a man will flee from his brother
٨٠:٣٥
وَأُمِّهِۦ And his mother wa-ummihi
And his mother
وَأَبِيهِ and his father wa-abīhi
and his father
٣٥ (35)
(35)
And his mother and his father
٨٠:٣٦
وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ And his wife waṣāḥibatihi
And his wife
وَبَنِيهِ and his children wabanīhi
and his children
٣٦ (36)
(36)
And his wife and his children,
٨٠:٣٧
لِكُلِّ For every likulli
For every
ٱمْرِئٍۢ man im'ri-in
man
مِّنْهُمْ among them min'hum
among them
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ that Day yawma-idhin
that Day
شَأْنٌۭ (will be) a matter shanun
(will be) a matter
يُغْنِيهِ occupying him yugh'nīhi
occupying him
٣٧ (37)
(37)
For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him.
٨٠:٣٨
وُجُوهٌۭ Faces wujūhun
Faces
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ that Day yawma-idhin
that Day
مُّسْفِرَةٌۭ (will be) bright mus'firatun
(will be) bright
٣٨ (38)
(38)
[Some] faces, that Day, will be bright -
٨٠:٣٩
ضَاحِكَةٌۭ Laughing ḍāḥikatun
Laughing
مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌۭ rejoicing at good news mus'tabshiratun
rejoicing at good news
٣٩ (39)
(39)
Laughing, rejoicing at good news.
٨٠:٤٠
وَوُجُوهٌۭ And faces wawujūhun
And faces
يَوْمَئِذٍ that Day yawma-idhin
that Day
عَلَيْهَا upon them ʿalayhā
upon them
غَبَرَةٌۭ (will be) dust ghabaratun
(will be) dust
٤٠ (40)
(40)
And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust.
٨٠:٤١
تَرْهَقُهَا Will cover them tarhaquhā
Will cover them
قَتَرَةٌ darkness qataratun
darkness
٤١ (41)
(41)
Blackness will cover them.
٨٠:٤٢
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
هُمُ [they] humu
[they]
ٱلْكَفَرَةُ (are) the disbelievers l-kafaratu
(are) the disbelievers
ٱلْفَجَرَةُ the wicked ones l-fajaratu
the wicked ones
٤٢ (42)
(42)
Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones.
