In (the) name
bis'mi
In (the) name ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
In (the) name ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
٥٣:١
وَٱلنَّجْمِ
By the star
wal-najmi
By the star إِذَا when idhā
when هَوَىٰ it goes down hawā
it goes down ١ (1)
(1)
By the star إِذَا when idhā
when هَوَىٰ it goes down hawā
it goes down ١ (1)
(1)
By the star when it descends,
٥٣:٢
مَا
Not
mā
Not ضَلَّ has strayed ḍalla
has strayed صَاحِبُكُمْ your companion ṣāḥibukum
your companion وَمَا and not wamā
and not غَوَىٰ has he erred ghawā
has he erred ٢ (2)
(2)
Not ضَلَّ has strayed ḍalla
has strayed صَاحِبُكُمْ your companion ṣāḥibukum
your companion وَمَا and not wamā
and not غَوَىٰ has he erred ghawā
has he erred ٢ (2)
(2)
Your companion [i.e., Muḥammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred,
٥٣:٣
وَمَا
And not
wamā
And not يَنطِقُ he speaks yanṭiqu
he speaks عَنِ from ʿani
from ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ the desire l-hawā
the desire ٣ (3)
(3)
And not يَنطِقُ he speaks yanṭiqu
he speaks عَنِ from ʿani
from ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ the desire l-hawā
the desire ٣ (3)
(3)
Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination.
٥٣:٤
إِنْ
Not
in
Not هُوَ it huwa
it إِلَّا (is) except illā
(is) except وَحْىٌۭ a revelation waḥyun
a revelation يُوحَىٰ revealed yūḥā
revealed ٤ (4)
(4)
Not هُوَ it huwa
it إِلَّا (is) except illā
(is) except وَحْىٌۭ a revelation waḥyun
a revelation يُوحَىٰ revealed yūḥā
revealed ٤ (4)
(4)
It is not but a revelation revealed,
٥٣:٥
عَلَّمَهُۥ
Has taught him
ʿallamahu
Has taught him شَدِيدُ the (one) mighty shadīdu
the (one) mighty ٱلْقُوَىٰ (in) power l-quwā
(in) power ٥ (5)
(5)
Has taught him شَدِيدُ the (one) mighty shadīdu
the (one) mighty ٱلْقُوَىٰ (in) power l-quwā
(in) power ٥ (5)
(5)
Taught to him by one intense in strength [i.e., Gabriel] -
٥٣:٦
ذُو
Possessor of soundness
dhū
Possessor of soundness مِرَّةٍۢ Possessor of soundness mirratin
Possessor of soundness فَٱسْتَوَىٰ And he rose fa-is'tawā
And he rose ٦ (6)
(6)
Possessor of soundness مِرَّةٍۢ Possessor of soundness mirratin
Possessor of soundness فَٱسْتَوَىٰ And he rose fa-is'tawā
And he rose ٦ (6)
(6)
One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form
٥٣:٧
وَهُوَ
While he
wahuwa
While he بِٱلْأُفُقِ (was) in the horizon bil-ufuqi
(was) in the horizon ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ the highest l-aʿlā
the highest ٧ (7)
(7)
While he بِٱلْأُفُقِ (was) in the horizon bil-ufuqi
(was) in the horizon ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ the highest l-aʿlā
the highest ٧ (7)
(7)
While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon.
٥٣:٨
ثُمَّ
Then
thumma
Then دَنَا he approached danā
he approached فَتَدَلَّىٰ and came down fatadallā
and came down ٨ (8)
(8)
Then دَنَا he approached danā
he approached فَتَدَلَّىٰ and came down fatadallā
and came down ٨ (8)
(8)
Then he approached and descended
٥٣:٩
فَكَانَ
And was
fakāna
And was قَابَ (at) a distance qāba
(at) a distance قَوْسَيْنِ (of) two bow-(lengths) qawsayni
(of) two bow-(lengths) أَوْ or aw
or أَدْنَىٰ nearer adnā
nearer ٩ (9)
(9)
And was قَابَ (at) a distance qāba
(at) a distance قَوْسَيْنِ (of) two bow-(lengths) qawsayni
(of) two bow-(lengths) أَوْ or aw
or أَدْنَىٰ nearer adnā
nearer ٩ (9)
(9)
And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer.
٥٣:١٠
فَأَوْحَىٰٓ
So he revealed
fa-awḥā
So he revealed إِلَىٰ to ilā
to عَبْدِهِۦ His slave ʿabdihi
His slave مَآ what mā
what أَوْحَىٰ he revealed awḥā
he revealed ١٠ (10)
(10)
So he revealed إِلَىٰ to ilā
to عَبْدِهِۦ His slave ʿabdihi
His slave مَآ what mā
what أَوْحَىٰ he revealed awḥā
he revealed ١٠ (10)
(10)
And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed [i.e., conveyed].
٥٣:١١
مَا
Not
mā
Not كَذَبَ lied kadhaba
lied ٱلْفُؤَادُ the heart l-fuādu
the heart مَا what mā
what رَأَىٰٓ it saw raā
it saw ١١ (11)
(11)
Not كَذَبَ lied kadhaba
lied ٱلْفُؤَادُ the heart l-fuādu
the heart مَا what mā
what رَأَىٰٓ it saw raā
it saw ١١ (11)
(11)
The heart did not lie [about] what it saw.
٥٣:١٢
أَفَتُمَـٰرُونَهُۥ
Then will you dispute with him
afatumārūnahu
Then will you dispute with him عَلَىٰ about ʿalā
about مَا what mā
what يَرَىٰ he saw yarā
he saw ١٢ (12)
(12)
Then will you dispute with him عَلَىٰ about ʿalā
about مَا what mā
what يَرَىٰ he saw yarā
he saw ١٢ (12)
(12)
So will you dispute with him over what he saw?
٥٣:١٣
وَلَقَدْ
And certainly
walaqad
And certainly رَءَاهُ he saw him raāhu
he saw him نَزْلَةً (in) descent nazlatan
(in) descent أُخْرَىٰ another ukh'rā
another ١٣ (13)
(13)
And certainly رَءَاهُ he saw him raāhu
he saw him نَزْلَةً (in) descent nazlatan
(in) descent أُخْرَىٰ another ukh'rā
another ١٣ (13)
(13)
And he certainly saw him in another descent
٥٣:١٤
عِندَ
Near
ʿinda
Near سِدْرَةِ (the) Lote Tree sid'rati
(the) Lote Tree ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ (of) the utmost boundary l-muntahā
(of) the utmost boundary ١٤ (14)
(14)
Near سِدْرَةِ (the) Lote Tree sid'rati
(the) Lote Tree ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ (of) the utmost boundary l-muntahā
(of) the utmost boundary ١٤ (14)
(14)
At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary -
٥٣:١٥
عِندَهَا
Near it
ʿindahā
Near it جَنَّةُ (is the) Garden jannatu
(is the) Garden ٱلْمَأْوَىٰٓ (of) Abode l-mawā
(of) Abode ١٥ (15)
(15)
Near it جَنَّةُ (is the) Garden jannatu
(is the) Garden ٱلْمَأْوَىٰٓ (of) Abode l-mawā
(of) Abode ١٥ (15)
(15)
Near it is the Garden of Refuge [i.e., Paradise] -
٥٣:١٦
إِذْ
When
idh
When يَغْشَى covered yaghshā
covered ٱلسِّدْرَةَ the Lote Tree l-sid'rata
the Lote Tree مَا what mā
what يَغْشَىٰ covers yaghshā
covers ١٦ (16)
(16)
When يَغْشَى covered yaghshā
covered ٱلسِّدْرَةَ the Lote Tree l-sid'rata
the Lote Tree مَا what mā
what يَغْشَىٰ covers yaghshā
covers ١٦ (16)
(16)
When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it].
٥٣:١٧
مَا
Not
mā
Not زَاغَ swerved zāgha
swerved ٱلْبَصَرُ the sight l-baṣaru
the sight وَمَا and not wamā
and not طَغَىٰ it transgressed ṭaghā
it transgressed ١٧ (17)
(17)
Not زَاغَ swerved zāgha
swerved ٱلْبَصَرُ the sight l-baṣaru
the sight وَمَا and not wamā
and not طَغَىٰ it transgressed ṭaghā
it transgressed ١٧ (17)
(17)
The sight [of the Prophet (ﷺ)] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit].
٥٣:١٨
لَقَدْ
Certainly
laqad
Certainly رَأَىٰ he saw raā
he saw مِنْ of min
of ءَايَـٰتِ (the) Signs āyāti
(the) Signs رَبِّهِ (of) his Lord rabbihi
(of) his Lord ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ the Greatest l-kub'rā
the Greatest ١٨ (18)
(18)
Certainly رَأَىٰ he saw raā
he saw مِنْ of min
of ءَايَـٰتِ (the) Signs āyāti
(the) Signs رَبِّهِ (of) his Lord rabbihi
(of) his Lord ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ the Greatest l-kub'rā
the Greatest ١٨ (18)
(18)
He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord.
٥٣:١٩
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ
So have you seen
afara-aytumu
So have you seen ٱللَّـٰتَ the Lat l-lāta
the Lat وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ and the Uzza wal-ʿuzā
and the Uzza ١٩ (19)
(19)
So have you seen ٱللَّـٰتَ the Lat l-lāta
the Lat وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ and the Uzza wal-ʿuzā
and the Uzza ١٩ (19)
(19)
So have you considered al-Lāt and al-ʿUzzā?
٥٣:٢٠
وَمَنَوٰةَ
And Manat
wamanata
And Manat ٱلثَّالِثَةَ the third l-thālithata
the third ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓ the other l-ukh'rā
the other ٢٠ (20)
(20)
And Manat ٱلثَّالِثَةَ the third l-thālithata
the third ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓ the other l-ukh'rā
the other ٢٠ (20)
(20)
And Manāt, the third - the other one?
٥٣:٢١
أَلَكُمُ
Is for you
alakumu
Is for you ٱلذَّكَرُ the male l-dhakaru
the male وَلَهُ and for Him walahu
and for Him ٱلْأُنثَىٰ the female l-unthā
the female ٢١ (21)
(21)
Is for you ٱلذَّكَرُ the male l-dhakaru
the male وَلَهُ and for Him walahu
and for Him ٱلْأُنثَىٰ the female l-unthā
the female ٢١ (21)
(21)
Is the male for you and for Him the female?
٥٣:٢٢
تِلْكَ
This
til'ka
This إِذًۭا then idhan
then قِسْمَةٌۭ (is) a division qis'matun
(is) a division ضِيزَىٰٓ unfair ḍīzā
unfair ٢٢ (22)
(22)
This إِذًۭا then idhan
then قِسْمَةٌۭ (is) a division qis'matun
(is) a division ضِيزَىٰٓ unfair ḍīzā
unfair ٢٢ (22)
(22)
That, then, is an unjust division.
٥٣:٢٣
إِنْ
Not
in
Not هِىَ they hiya
they إِلَّآ (are) except illā
(are) except أَسْمَآءٌۭ names asmāon
names سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ you have named them sammaytumūhā
you have named them أَنتُمْ you antum
you وَءَابَآؤُكُم and your forefathers waābāukum
and your forefathers مَّآ not mā
not أَنزَلَ has Allah sent down anzala
has Allah sent down ٱللَّهُ has Allah sent down l-lahu
has Allah sent down بِهَا for it bihā
for it مِن any min
any سُلْطَـٰنٍ ۚ authority sul'ṭānin
authority إِن Not in
Not يَتَّبِعُونَ they follow yattabiʿūna
they follow إِلَّا except illā
except ٱلظَّنَّ assumption l-ẓana
assumption وَمَا and what wamā
and what تَهْوَى desire tahwā
desire ٱلْأَنفُسُ ۖ the(ir) souls l-anfusu
the(ir) souls وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad
And certainly جَآءَهُم has come to them jāahum
has come to them مِّن from min
from رَّبِّهِمُ their Lord rabbihimu
their Lord ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ the guidance l-hudā
the guidance ٢٣ (23)
(23)
Not هِىَ they hiya
they إِلَّآ (are) except illā
(are) except أَسْمَآءٌۭ names asmāon
names سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ you have named them sammaytumūhā
you have named them أَنتُمْ you antum
you وَءَابَآؤُكُم and your forefathers waābāukum
and your forefathers مَّآ not mā

has Allah sent down ٱللَّهُ has Allah sent down l-lahu

except ٱلظَّنَّ assumption l-ẓana

desire ٱلْأَنفُسُ ۖ the(ir) souls l-anfusu
the(ir) souls وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad
And certainly جَآءَهُم has come to them jāahum
has come to them مِّن from min
from رَّبِّهِمُ their Lord rabbihimu
their Lord ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ the guidance l-hudā
the guidance ٢٣ (23)
(23)
They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allāh has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance.
٥٣:٢٤
أَمْ
Or
am
Or لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ (is) for man lil'insāni
(is) for man مَا what mā
what تَمَنَّىٰ he wishes tamannā
he wishes ٢٤ (24)
(24)
Or لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ (is) for man lil'insāni
(is) for man مَا what mā
what تَمَنَّىٰ he wishes tamannā
he wishes ٢٤ (24)
(24)
Or is there for man whatever he wishes?
٥٣:٢٥
فَلِلَّهِ
But for Allah
falillahi
But for Allah ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ (is) the last l-ākhiratu
(is) the last وَٱلْأُولَىٰ and the first wal-ūlā
and the first ٢٥ (25)
(25)
But for Allah ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ (is) the last l-ākhiratu
(is) the last وَٱلْأُولَىٰ and the first wal-ūlā
and the first ٢٥ (25)
(25)
Rather, to Allāh belongs the Hereafter and the first [life].
٥٣:٢٦
۞ وَكَم
And how many
wakam
And how many مِّن of min
of مَّلَكٍۢ (the) Angels malakin
(the) Angels فِى in fī
in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens لَا not lā
not تُغْنِى will avail tugh'nī
will avail شَفَـٰعَتُهُمْ their intercession shafāʿatuhum
their intercession شَيْـًٔا anything shayan
anything إِلَّا except illā
except مِنۢ after min
after بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after أَن [that] an
[that] يَأْذَنَ Allah has given permission yadhana
Allah has given permission ٱللَّهُ Allah has given permission l-lahu
Allah has given permission لِمَن for whom liman
for whom يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills وَيَرْضَىٰٓ and approves wayarḍā
and approves ٢٦ (26)
(26)
And how many مِّن of min
of مَّلَكٍۢ (the) Angels malakin
(the) Angels فِى in fī
in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens لَا not lā
not تُغْنِى will avail tugh'nī
will avail شَفَـٰعَتُهُمْ their intercession shafāʿatuhum
their intercession شَيْـًٔا anything shayan
anything إِلَّا except illā
except مِنۢ after min
after بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after أَن [that] an
[that] يَأْذَنَ Allah has given permission yadhana
Allah has given permission ٱللَّهُ Allah has given permission l-lahu
Allah has given permission لِمَن for whom liman
for whom يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills وَيَرْضَىٰٓ and approves wayarḍā
and approves ٢٦ (26)
(26)
And how many angels there are in the heavens whose intercession will not avail at all except [only] after Allāh has permitted [it] to whom He wills and approves.
٥٣:٢٧
إِنَّ
Indeed
inna
Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who لَا (do) not lā
(do) not يُؤْمِنُونَ believe yu'minūna
believe بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ in the Hereafter bil-ākhirati
in the Hereafter لَيُسَمُّونَ surely they name layusammūna
surely they name ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ the Angels l-malāikata
the Angels تَسْمِيَةَ name(s) tasmiyata
name(s) ٱلْأُنثَىٰ (of) female l-unthā
(of) female ٢٧ (27)
(27)
Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who لَا (do) not lā
(do) not يُؤْمِنُونَ believe yu'minūna
believe بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ in the Hereafter bil-ākhirati
in the Hereafter لَيُسَمُّونَ surely they name layusammūna
surely they name ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ the Angels l-malāikata
the Angels تَسْمِيَةَ name(s) tasmiyata
name(s) ٱلْأُنثَىٰ (of) female l-unthā
(of) female ٢٧ (27)
(27)
Indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter name the angels female names,
٥٣:٢٨
وَمَا
And not
wamā
And not لَهُم for them lahum
for them بِهِۦ about it bihi
about it مِنْ any min
any عِلْمٍ ۖ knowledge ʿil'min
knowledge إِن Not in
Not يَتَّبِعُونَ they follow yattabiʿūna
they follow إِلَّا but illā
but ٱلظَّنَّ ۖ assumption l-ẓana
assumption وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed ٱلظَّنَّ the assumption l-ẓana
the assumption لَا (does) not lā
(does) not يُغْنِى avail yugh'nī
avail مِنَ against mina
against ٱلْحَقِّ the truth l-ḥaqi
the truth شَيْـًۭٔا anything shayan
anything ٢٨ (28)
(28)
And not لَهُم for them lahum
for them بِهِۦ about it bihi
about it مِنْ any min
any عِلْمٍ ۖ knowledge ʿil'min
knowledge إِن Not in
Not يَتَّبِعُونَ they follow yattabiʿūna
they follow إِلَّا but illā
but ٱلظَّنَّ ۖ assumption l-ẓana
assumption وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed ٱلظَّنَّ the assumption l-ẓana
the assumption لَا (does) not lā
(does) not يُغْنِى avail yugh'nī
avail مِنَ against mina
against ٱلْحَقِّ the truth l-ḥaqi
the truth شَيْـًۭٔا anything shayan
anything ٢٨ (28)
(28)
And they have thereof no knowledge. They follow not except assumption, and indeed, assumption avails not against the truth at all.
٥٣:٢٩
فَأَعْرِضْ
So turn away
fa-aʿriḍ
So turn away عَن from ʿan
from مَّن (him) who man
(him) who تَوَلَّىٰ turns away tawallā
turns away عَن from ʿan
from ذِكْرِنَا Our Reminder dhik'rinā
Our Reminder وَلَمْ and not walam
and not يُرِدْ he desires yurid
he desires إِلَّا except illā
except ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ the life l-ḥayata
the life ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world ٢٩ (29)
(29)
So turn away عَن from ʿan
from مَّن (him) who man
(him) who تَوَلَّىٰ turns away tawallā
turns away عَن from ʿan
from ذِكْرِنَا Our Reminder dhik'rinā
Our Reminder وَلَمْ and not walam
and not يُرِدْ he desires yurid
he desires إِلَّا except illā
except ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ the life l-ḥayata
the life ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world ٢٩ (29)
(29)
So turn away from whoever turns his back on Our message and desires not except the worldly life.
٥٣:٣٠
ذَٰلِكَ
That
dhālika
That مَبْلَغُهُم (is) their sum mablaghuhum
(is) their sum مِّنَ of mina
of ٱلْعِلْمِ ۚ knowledge l-ʿil'mi
knowledge إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord rabbaka
your Lord هُوَ (is) He (Who) huwa
(is) He (Who) أَعْلَمُ knows best aʿlamu
knows best بِمَن (he) who biman
(he) who ضَلَّ strays ḍalla
strays عَن from ʿan
from سَبِيلِهِۦ His Path sabīlihi
His Path وَهُوَ and He wahuwa
and He أَعْلَمُ knows best aʿlamu
knows best بِمَنِ (he) who bimani
(he) who ٱهْتَدَىٰ is guided ih'tadā
is guided ٣٠ (30)
(30)
That مَبْلَغُهُم (is) their sum mablaghuhum
(is) their sum مِّنَ of mina
of ٱلْعِلْمِ ۚ knowledge l-ʿil'mi
knowledge إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord rabbaka
your Lord هُوَ (is) He (Who) huwa
(is) He (Who) أَعْلَمُ knows best aʿlamu
knows best بِمَن (he) who biman
(he) who ضَلَّ strays ḍalla
strays عَن from ʿan
from سَبِيلِهِۦ His Path sabīlihi
His Path وَهُوَ and He wahuwa
and He أَعْلَمُ knows best aʿlamu
knows best بِمَنِ (he) who bimani
(he) who ٱهْتَدَىٰ is guided ih'tadā
is guided ٣٠ (30)
(30)
That is their sum of knowledge. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who strays from His way, and He is most knowing of who is guided.
٥٣:٣١
وَلِلَّهِ
And for Allah
walillahi
And for Allah مَا (is) whatever mā
(is) whatever فِى (is) in fī
(is) in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens وَمَا and whatever wamā
and whatever فِى (is) in fī
(is) in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth لِيَجْزِىَ that He may recompense liyajziya
that He may recompense ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who أَسَـٰٓـُٔوا۟ do evil asāū
do evil بِمَا with what bimā
with what عَمِلُوا۟ they have done ʿamilū
they have done وَيَجْزِىَ and recompense wayajziya
and recompense ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who أَحْسَنُوا۟ do good aḥsanū
do good بِٱلْحُسْنَى with the best bil-ḥus'nā
with the best ٣١ (31)
(31)
And for Allah مَا (is) whatever mā
(is) whatever فِى (is) in fī
(is) in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens وَمَا and whatever wamā
and whatever فِى (is) in fī
(is) in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth لِيَجْزِىَ that He may recompense liyajziya
that He may recompense ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who أَسَـٰٓـُٔوا۟ do evil asāū
do evil بِمَا with what bimā
with what عَمِلُوا۟ they have done ʿamilū
they have done وَيَجْزِىَ and recompense wayajziya
and recompense ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who أَحْسَنُوا۟ do good aḥsanū
do good بِٱلْحُسْنَى with the best bil-ḥus'nā
with the best ٣١ (31)
(31)
And to Allāh belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth - that He may recompense those who do evil with [the penalty of] what they have done and recompense those who do good with the best [reward] -
٥٣:٣٢
ٱلَّذِينَ
Those who
alladhīna
Those who يَجْتَنِبُونَ avoid yajtanibūna
avoid كَبَـٰٓئِرَ great kabāira
great ٱلْإِثْمِ sins l-ith'mi
sins وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ and the immoralities wal-fawāḥisha
and the immoralities إِلَّا except illā
except ٱللَّمَمَ ۚ the small faults l-lamama
the small faults إِنَّ indeed inna
indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord rabbaka
your Lord وَٰسِعُ (is) vast wāsiʿu
(is) vast ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ (in) forgiveness l-maghfirati
(in) forgiveness هُوَ He huwa
He أَعْلَمُ (is) most knowing about you aʿlamu
(is) most knowing about you بِكُمْ (is) most knowing about you bikum
(is) most knowing about you إِذْ when idh
when أَنشَأَكُم He produced you ansha-akum
He produced you مِّنَ from mina
from ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth وَإِذْ and when wa-idh
and when أَنتُمْ you (were) antum
you (were) أَجِنَّةٌۭ fetuses ajinnatun
fetuses فِى in fī
in بُطُونِ (the) wombs buṭūni
(the) wombs أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ ۖ (of) your mothers ummahātikum
(of) your mothers فَلَا So (do) not falā
So (do) not تُزَكُّوٓا۟ ascribe purity tuzakkū
ascribe purity أَنفُسَكُمْ ۖ (to) yourselves anfusakum
(to) yourselves هُوَ He huwa
He أَعْلَمُ knows best aʿlamu
knows best بِمَنِ (he) who bimani
(he) who ٱتَّقَىٰٓ fears ittaqā
fears ٣٢ (32)
(32)

(to) yourselves هُوَ He huwa
He أَعْلَمُ knows best aʿlamu
knows best بِمَنِ (he) who bimani
(he) who ٱتَّقَىٰٓ fears ittaqā
fears ٣٢ (32)
(32)
Those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, only [committing] slight ones. Indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He was most knowing of you when He produced you from the earth and when you were fetuses in the wombs of your mothers. So do not claim yourselves to be pure; He is most knowing of who fears Him.
٥٣:٣٣
أَفَرَءَيْتَ
Did you see
afara-ayta
Did you see ٱلَّذِى the one who alladhī
the one who تَوَلَّىٰ turned away tawallā
turned away ٣٣ (33)
(33)
Did you see ٱلَّذِى the one who alladhī
the one who تَوَلَّىٰ turned away tawallā
turned away ٣٣ (33)
(33)
Have you seen the one who turned away
٥٣:٣٤
وَأَعْطَىٰ
And gave
wa-aʿṭā
And gave قَلِيلًۭا a little qalīlan
a little وَأَكْدَىٰٓ and withheld wa-akdā
and withheld ٣٤ (34)
(34)
And gave قَلِيلًۭا a little qalīlan
a little وَأَكْدَىٰٓ and withheld wa-akdā
and withheld ٣٤ (34)
(34)
And gave a little and [then] refrained?
٥٣:٣٥
أَعِندَهُۥ
Is with him
aʿindahu
Is with him عِلْمُ (the) knowledge ʿil'mu
(the) knowledge ٱلْغَيْبِ (of) the unseen l-ghaybi
(of) the unseen فَهُوَ so he fahuwa
so he يَرَىٰٓ sees yarā
sees ٣٥ (35)
(35)
Is with him عِلْمُ (the) knowledge ʿil'mu
(the) knowledge ٱلْغَيْبِ (of) the unseen l-ghaybi
(of) the unseen فَهُوَ so he fahuwa
so he يَرَىٰٓ sees yarā
sees ٣٥ (35)
(35)
Does he have knowledge of the unseen, so he sees?
٥٣:٣٦
أَمْ
Or
am
Or لَمْ not lam
not يُنَبَّأْ he was informed yunabba
he was informed بِمَا with what bimā
with what فِى (was) in fī
(was) in صُحُفِ (the) Scriptures ṣuḥufi
(the) Scriptures مُوسَىٰ (of) Musa mūsā
(of) Musa ٣٦ (36)
(36)
Or لَمْ not lam
not يُنَبَّأْ he was informed yunabba
he was informed بِمَا with what bimā
with what فِى (was) in fī
(was) in صُحُفِ (the) Scriptures ṣuḥufi
(the) Scriptures مُوسَىٰ (of) Musa mūsā
(of) Musa ٣٦ (36)
(36)
Or has he not been informed of what was in the scriptures of Moses
٥٣:٣٧
وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ
And Ibrahim
wa-ib'rāhīma
And Ibrahim ٱلَّذِى who alladhī
who وَفَّىٰٓ fulfilled waffā
fulfilled ٣٧ (37)
(37)
And Ibrahim ٱلَّذِى who alladhī
who وَفَّىٰٓ fulfilled waffā
fulfilled ٣٧ (37)
(37)
And [of] Abraham, who fulfilled [his obligations] -
٥٣:٣٨
أَلَّا
That not
allā
That not تَزِرُ will bear taziru
will bear وَازِرَةٌۭ a bearer of burdens wāziratun
a bearer of burdens وِزْرَ (the) burden wiz'ra
(the) burden أُخْرَىٰ (of) another ukh'rā
(of) another ٣٨ (38)
(38)
That not تَزِرُ will bear taziru
will bear وَازِرَةٌۭ a bearer of burdens wāziratun
a bearer of burdens وِزْرَ (the) burden wiz'ra
(the) burden أُخْرَىٰ (of) another ukh'rā
(of) another ٣٨ (38)
(38)
That no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another
٥٣:٣٩
وَأَن
And that
wa-an
And that لَّيْسَ is not laysa
is not لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ for man lil'insāni
for man إِلَّا except illā
except مَا what mā
what سَعَىٰ he strives (for) saʿā
he strives (for) ٣٩ (39)
(39)
And that لَّيْسَ is not laysa
is not لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ for man lil'insāni
for man إِلَّا except illā
except مَا what mā
what سَعَىٰ he strives (for) saʿā
he strives (for) ٣٩ (39)
(39)
And that there is not for man except that [good] for which he strives
٥٣:٤٠
وَأَنَّ
And that
wa-anna
And that سَعْيَهُۥ his striving saʿyahu
his striving سَوْفَ will soon sawfa
will soon يُرَىٰ be seen yurā
be seen ٤٠ (40)
(40)
And that سَعْيَهُۥ his striving saʿyahu
his striving سَوْفَ will soon sawfa
will soon يُرَىٰ be seen yurā
be seen ٤٠ (40)
(40)
And that his effort is going to be seen -
٥٣:٤١
ثُمَّ
Then
thumma
Then يُجْزَىٰهُ he will be recompensed for it yuj'zāhu
he will be recompensed for it ٱلْجَزَآءَ the recompense l-jazāa
the recompense ٱلْأَوْفَىٰ the fullest l-awfā
the fullest ٤١ (41)
(41)
Then يُجْزَىٰهُ he will be recompensed for it yuj'zāhu
he will be recompensed for it ٱلْجَزَآءَ the recompense l-jazāa
the recompense ٱلْأَوْفَىٰ the fullest l-awfā
the fullest ٤١ (41)
(41)
Then he will be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense -
٥٣:٤٢
وَأَنَّ
And that
wa-anna
And that إِلَىٰ to ilā
to رَبِّكَ your Lord rabbika
your Lord ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ (is) the final goal l-muntahā
(is) the final goal ٤٢ (42)
(42)
And that إِلَىٰ to ilā
to رَبِّكَ your Lord rabbika
your Lord ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ (is) the final goal l-muntahā
(is) the final goal ٤٢ (42)
(42)
And that to your Lord is the finality
٥٣:٤٣
وَأَنَّهُۥ
And that He
wa-annahu
And that He هُوَ [He] huwa
[He] أَضْحَكَ makes (one) laugh aḍḥaka
makes (one) laugh وَأَبْكَىٰ and makes (one) weep wa-abkā
and makes (one) weep ٤٣ (43)
(43)
And that He هُوَ [He] huwa
[He] أَضْحَكَ makes (one) laugh aḍḥaka
makes (one) laugh وَأَبْكَىٰ and makes (one) weep wa-abkā
and makes (one) weep ٤٣ (43)
(43)
And that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep
٥٣:٤٤
وَأَنَّهُۥ
And that He
wa-annahu
And that He هُوَ [He] huwa
[He] أَمَاتَ causes death amāta
causes death وَأَحْيَا and gives life wa-aḥyā
and gives life ٤٤ (44)
(44)
And that He هُوَ [He] huwa
[He] أَمَاتَ causes death amāta
causes death وَأَحْيَا and gives life wa-aḥyā
and gives life ٤٤ (44)
(44)
And that it is He who causes death and gives life
٥٣:٤٥
وَأَنَّهُۥ
And that He
wa-annahu
And that He خَلَقَ created khalaqa
created ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ the pairs l-zawjayni
the pairs ٱلذَّكَرَ the male l-dhakara
the male وَٱلْأُنثَىٰ and the female wal-unthā
and the female ٤٥ (45)
(45)
And that He خَلَقَ created khalaqa
created ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ the pairs l-zawjayni
the pairs ٱلذَّكَرَ the male l-dhakara
the male وَٱلْأُنثَىٰ and the female wal-unthā
and the female ٤٥ (45)
(45)
And that He creates the two mates - the male and female -
٥٣:٤٦
مِن
From
min
From نُّطْفَةٍ a semen-drop nuṭ'fatin
a semen-drop إِذَا when idhā
when تُمْنَىٰ it is emitted tum'nā
it is emitted ٤٦ (46)
(46)
From نُّطْفَةٍ a semen-drop nuṭ'fatin
a semen-drop إِذَا when idhā
when تُمْنَىٰ it is emitted tum'nā
it is emitted ٤٦ (46)
(46)
From a sperm-drop when it is emitted
٥٣:٤٧
وَأَنَّ
And that
wa-anna
And that عَلَيْهِ upon Him ʿalayhi
upon Him ٱلنَّشْأَةَ (is) the bringing forth l-nashata
(is) the bringing forth ٱلْأُخْرَىٰ another l-ukh'rā
another ٤٧ (47)
(47)
And that عَلَيْهِ upon Him ʿalayhi
upon Him ٱلنَّشْأَةَ (is) the bringing forth l-nashata
(is) the bringing forth ٱلْأُخْرَىٰ another l-ukh'rā
another ٤٧ (47)
(47)
And that [incumbent] upon Him is the other [i.e., next] creation.
٥٣:٤٨
وَأَنَّهُۥ
And that He
wa-annahu
And that He هُوَ [He] huwa
[He] أَغْنَىٰ enriches aghnā
enriches وَأَقْنَىٰ and suffices wa-aqnā
and suffices ٤٨ (48)
(48)
And that He هُوَ [He] huwa
[He] أَغْنَىٰ enriches aghnā
enriches وَأَقْنَىٰ and suffices wa-aqnā
and suffices ٤٨ (48)
(48)
And that it is He who enriches and suffices
٥٣:٤٩
وَأَنَّهُۥ
And that He
wa-annahu
And that He هُوَ [He] huwa
[He] رَبُّ (is the) Lord rabbu
(is the) Lord ٱلشِّعْرَىٰ (of) Sirius l-shiʿ'rā
(of) Sirius ٤٩ (49)
(49)
And that He هُوَ [He] huwa
[He] رَبُّ (is the) Lord rabbu
(is the) Lord ٱلشِّعْرَىٰ (of) Sirius l-shiʿ'rā
(of) Sirius ٤٩ (49)
(49)
And that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius.
٥٣:٥٠
وَأَنَّهُۥٓ
And that He
wa-annahu
And that He أَهْلَكَ destroyed ahlaka
destroyed عَادًا Aad ʿādan
Aad ٱلْأُولَىٰ the first l-ūlā
the first ٥٠ (50)
(50)
And that He أَهْلَكَ destroyed ahlaka
destroyed عَادًا Aad ʿādan
Aad ٱلْأُولَىٰ the first l-ūlā
the first ٥٠ (50)
(50)
And that He destroyed the first [people of] ʿAad.
٥٣:٥١
وَثَمُودَا۟
And Thamud
wathamūdā
And Thamud فَمَآ so not famā
so not أَبْقَىٰ He spared abqā
He spared ٥١ (51)
(51)
And Thamud فَمَآ so not famā
so not أَبْقَىٰ He spared abqā
He spared ٥١ (51)
(51)
And Thamūd - and He did not spare [them] -
٥٣:٥٢
وَقَوْمَ
And (the) people
waqawma
And (the) people نُوحٍۢ (of) Nuh nūḥin
(of) Nuh مِّن before min
before قَبْلُ ۖ before qablu
before إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they innahum
Indeed, they كَانُوا۟ they were kānū
they were هُمْ they were hum
they were أَظْلَمَ more unjust aẓlama
more unjust وَأَطْغَىٰ and more rebellious wa-aṭghā
and more rebellious ٥٢ (52)
(52)
And (the) people نُوحٍۢ (of) Nuh nūḥin
(of) Nuh مِّن before min
before قَبْلُ ۖ before qablu
before إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they innahum
Indeed, they كَانُوا۟ they were kānū
they were هُمْ they were hum
they were أَظْلَمَ more unjust aẓlama
more unjust وَأَطْغَىٰ and more rebellious wa-aṭghā
and more rebellious ٥٢ (52)
(52)
And the people of Noah before. Indeed, it was they who were [even] more unjust and oppressing.
٥٣:٥٣
وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ
And the overturned cities
wal-mu'tafikata
And the overturned cities أَهْوَىٰ He overthrew ahwā
He overthrew ٥٣ (53)
(53)
And the overturned cities أَهْوَىٰ He overthrew ahwā
He overthrew ٥٣ (53)
(53)
And the overturned towns He hurled down.
٥٣:٥٤
فَغَشَّىٰهَا
So covered them
faghashāhā
So covered them مَا what mā
what غَشَّىٰ covered ghashā
covered ٥٤ (54)
(54)
So covered them مَا what mā
what غَشَّىٰ covered ghashā
covered ٥٤ (54)
(54)
And covered them by that which He covered.
٥٣:٥٥
فَبِأَىِّ
Then which (of)
fabi-ayyi
Then which (of) ءَالَآءِ the Favors ālāi
the Favors رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord rabbika
(of) your Lord تَتَمَارَىٰ will you doubt tatamārā
will you doubt ٥٥ (55)
(55)
Then which (of) ءَالَآءِ the Favors ālāi
the Favors رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord rabbika
(of) your Lord تَتَمَارَىٰ will you doubt tatamārā
will you doubt ٥٥ (55)
(55)
Then which of the favors of your Lord do you doubt?
٥٣:٥٦
هَـٰذَا
This
hādhā
This نَذِيرٌۭ (is) a warner nadhīrun
(is) a warner مِّنَ from mina
from ٱلنُّذُرِ the warners l-nudhuri
the warners ٱلْأُولَىٰٓ the former l-ūlā
the former ٥٦ (56)
(56)
This نَذِيرٌۭ (is) a warner nadhīrun
(is) a warner مِّنَ from mina
from ٱلنُّذُرِ the warners l-nudhuri
the warners ٱلْأُولَىٰٓ the former l-ūlā
the former ٥٦ (56)
(56)
This [Prophet (ﷺ)] is a warner from [i.e., like] the former warners.
٥٣:٥٧
أَزِفَتِ
Has approached
azifati
Has approached ٱلْـَٔازِفَةُ the Approaching Day l-āzifatu
the Approaching Day ٥٧ (57)
(57)
Has approached ٱلْـَٔازِفَةُ the Approaching Day l-āzifatu
the Approaching Day ٥٧ (57)
(57)
The Approaching Day has approached.
٥٣:٥٨
لَيْسَ
Not is
laysa
Not is لَهَا for it lahā
for it مِن besides min
besides دُونِ besides dūni
besides ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah كَاشِفَةٌ any remover kāshifatun
any remover ٥٨ (58)
(58)
Not is لَهَا for it lahā
for it مِن besides min
besides دُونِ besides dūni
besides ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah كَاشِفَةٌ any remover kāshifatun
any remover ٥٨ (58)
(58)
Of it, [from those] besides Allāh, there is no remover.
٥٣:٥٩
أَفَمِنْ
Then of
afamin
Then of هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this ٱلْحَدِيثِ statement l-ḥadīthi
statement تَعْجَبُونَ you wonder taʿjabūna
you wonder ٥٩ (59)
(59)
Then of هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this ٱلْحَدِيثِ statement l-ḥadīthi
statement تَعْجَبُونَ you wonder taʿjabūna
you wonder ٥٩ (59)
(59)
Then at this statement do you wonder?
٥٣:٦٠
وَتَضْحَكُونَ
And you laugh
wataḍḥakūna
And you laugh وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not تَبْكُونَ weep tabkūna
weep ٦٠ (60)
(60)
And you laugh وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not تَبْكُونَ weep tabkūna
weep ٦٠ (60)
(60)
And you laugh and do not weep
٥٣:٦١
وَأَنتُمْ
While you
wa-antum
While you سَـٰمِدُونَ amuse (yourselves) sāmidūna
amuse (yourselves) ٦١ (61)
(61)
While you سَـٰمِدُونَ amuse (yourselves) sāmidūna
amuse (yourselves) ٦١ (61)
(61)
While you are proudly sporting?
٥٣:٦٢
فَٱسْجُدُوا۟
So prostrate
fa-us'judū
So prostrate لِلَّهِ to Allah lillahi
to Allah وَٱعْبُدُوا۟ ۩ and worship (Him) wa-uʿ'budū
and worship (Him) ٦٢ (62)
(62)
So prostrate لِلَّهِ to Allah lillahi
to Allah وَٱعْبُدُوا۟ ۩ and worship (Him) wa-uʿ'budū
and worship (Him) ٦٢ (62)
(62)
So prostrate to Allāh and worship [Him].
