بِسْمِ In (the) name bis'mi
In (the) name
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
٣٧:١
وَٱلصَّـٰٓفَّـٰتِ By those lined wal-ṣāfāti
By those lined
صَفًّۭا (in) rows ṣaffan
(in) rows
١ (1)
(1)
By those [angels] lined up in rows
٣٧:٢
فَٱلزَّٰجِرَٰتِ And those who drive fal-zājirāti
And those who drive
زَجْرًۭا strongly zajran
strongly
٢ (2)
(2)
And those who drive [the clouds]
٣٧:٣
فَٱلتَّـٰلِيَـٰتِ And those who recite fal-tāliyāti
And those who recite
ذِكْرًا (the) Message dhik'ran
(the) Message
٣ (3)
(3)
And those who recite the message,
٣٧:٤
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
إِلَـٰهَكُمْ your Lord ilāhakum
your Lord
لَوَٰحِدٌۭ (is) surely One lawāḥidun
(is) surely One
٤ (4)
(4)
Indeed, your God is One,
٣٧:٥
رَّبُّ Lord rabbu
Lord
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
بَيْنَهُمَا (is) between both of them baynahumā
(is) between both of them
وَرَبُّ and Lord warabbu
and Lord
ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ (of) each point of sunrise l-mashāriqi
(of) each point of sunrise
٥ (5)
(5)
Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them and Lord of the sunrises.
٣٧:٦
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We
زَيَّنَّا [We] adorned zayyannā
[We] adorned
ٱلسَّمَآءَ the sky l-samāa
the sky
ٱلدُّنْيَا [the world] l-dun'yā
[the world]
بِزِينَةٍ with an adornment bizīnatin
with an adornment
ٱلْكَوَاكِبِ (of) the stars l-kawākibi
(of) the stars
٦ (6)
(6)
Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars
٣٧:٧
وَحِفْظًۭا And (to) guard waḥif'ẓan
And (to) guard
مِّن against min
against
كُلِّ every kulli
every
شَيْطَـٰنٍۢ devil shayṭānin
devil
مَّارِدٍۢ rebellious māridin
rebellious
٧ (7)
(7)
And as protection against every rebellious devil
٣٧:٨
لَّا Not
Not
يَسَّمَّعُونَ they may listen yassammaʿūna
they may listen
إِلَى to ilā
to
ٱلْمَلَإِ the assembly l-mala-i
the assembly
ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ [the] exalted l-aʿlā
[the] exalted
وَيُقْذَفُونَ are pelted wayuq'dhafūna
are pelted
مِن from min
from
كُلِّ every kulli
every
جَانِبٍۢ side jānibin
side
٨ (8)
(8)
[So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side,
٣٧:٩
دُحُورًۭا ۖ Repelled duḥūran
Repelled
وَلَهُمْ and for them walahum
and for them
عَذَابٌۭ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
وَاصِبٌ perpetual wāṣibun
perpetual
٩ (9)
(9)
Repelled; and for them is a constant punishment,
٣٧:١٠
إِلَّا Except illā
Except
مَنْ (him) who man
(him) who
خَطِفَ snatches khaṭifa
snatches
ٱلْخَطْفَةَ (by) theft l-khaṭfata
(by) theft
فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ but follows him fa-atbaʿahu
but follows him
شِهَابٌۭ a burning flame shihābun
a burning flame
ثَاقِبٌۭ piercing thāqibun
piercing
١٠ (10)
(10)
Except one who snatches [some words] by theft, but they are pursued by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness].
٣٧:١١
فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ Then ask them fa-is'taftihim
Then ask them
أَهُمْ Are they ahum
Are they
أَشَدُّ a stronger ashaddu
a stronger
خَلْقًا creation khalqan
creation
أَم or am
or
مَّنْ (those) whom man
(those) whom
خَلَقْنَآ ۚ We have created khalaqnā
We have created
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We
خَلَقْنَـٰهُم created them khalaqnāhum
created them
مِّن from min
from
طِينٍۢ a clay ṭīnin
a clay
لَّازِبٍۭ sticky lāzibin
sticky
١١ (11)
(11)
Then inquire of them, [O Muḥammad], "Are they a stronger [or more difficult] creation or those [others] We have created?" Indeed, We created them [i.e., men] from sticky clay.
٣٧:١٢
بَلْ Nay bal
Nay
عَجِبْتَ you wonder ʿajib'ta
you wonder
وَيَسْخَرُونَ while they mock wayaskharūna
while they mock
١٢ (12)
(12)
But you wonder, while they mock,
٣٧:١٣
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when
ذُكِّرُوا۟ they are reminded dhukkirū
they are reminded
لَا not
not
يَذْكُرُونَ they receive admonition yadhkurūna
they receive admonition
١٣ (13)
(13)
And when they are reminded, they remember not.
٣٧:١٤
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when
رَأَوْا۟ they see ra-aw
they see
ءَايَةًۭ a Sign āyatan
a Sign
يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ they mock yastaskhirūna
they mock
١٤ (14)
(14)
And when they see a sign, they ridicule.
٣٧:١٥
وَقَالُوٓا۟ And they say waqālū
And they say
إِنْ Not in
Not
هَـٰذَآ (is) this hādhā
(is) this
إِلَّا except illā
except
سِحْرٌۭ a magic siḥ'run
a magic
مُّبِينٌ clear mubīnun
clear
١٥ (15)
(15)
And say, "This is not but obvious magic.
٣٧:١٦
أَءِذَا Is it when a-idhā
Is it when
مِتْنَا we are dead mit'nā
we are dead
وَكُنَّا and have become wakunnā
and have become
تُرَابًۭا dust turāban
dust
وَعِظَـٰمًا and bones waʿiẓāman
and bones
أَءِنَّا shall we then a-innā
shall we then
لَمَبْعُوثُونَ be certainly resurrected lamabʿūthūna
be certainly resurrected
١٦ (16)
(16)
When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?
٣٧:١٧
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا Or our fathers awaābāunā
Or our fathers
ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ former l-awalūna
former
١٧ (17)
(17)
And our forefathers [as well]?"
٣٧:١٨
قُلْ Say qul
Say
نَعَمْ Yes naʿam
Yes
وَأَنتُمْ and you wa-antum
and you
دَٰخِرُونَ (will be) humiliated dākhirūna
(will be) humiliated
١٨ (18)
(18)
Say, "Yes, and you will be [rendered] contemptible."
٣٧:١٩
فَإِنَّمَا Then only fa-innamā
Then only
هِىَ it hiya
it
زَجْرَةٌۭ (will be) a cry zajratun
(will be) a cry
وَٰحِدَةٌۭ single wāḥidatun
single
فَإِذَا then, behold fa-idhā
then, behold
هُمْ They hum
They
يَنظُرُونَ will see yanẓurūna
will see
١٩ (19)
(19)
It will be only one shout, and at once they will be observing.
٣٧:٢٠
وَقَالُوا۟ And they will say waqālū
And they will say
يَـٰوَيْلَنَا O woe to us yāwaylanā
O woe to us
هَـٰذَا This hādhā
This
يَوْمُ (is the) Day yawmu
(is the) Day
ٱلدِّينِ (of) the Recompense l-dīni
(of) the Recompense
٢٠ (20)
(20)
They will say, "O woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense."
٣٧:٢١
هَـٰذَا This hādhā
This
يَوْمُ (is the) Day yawmu
(is the) Day
ٱلْفَصْلِ (of) Judgment l-faṣli
(of) Judgment
ٱلَّذِى which alladhī
which
كُنتُم you used to kuntum
you used to
بِهِۦ [of it] bihi
[of it]
تُكَذِّبُونَ deny tukadhibūna
deny
٢١ (21)
(21)
[They will be told], "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny."
٣٧:٢٢
۞ ٱحْشُرُوا۟ Gather uḥ'shurū
Gather
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ظَلَمُوا۟ wronged ẓalamū
wronged
وَأَزْوَٰجَهُمْ and their kinds wa-azwājahum
and their kinds
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
كَانُوا۟ they used (to) kānū
they used (to)
يَعْبُدُونَ worship yaʿbudūna
worship
٢٢ (22)
(22)
[The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship
٣٧:٢٣
مِن Besides min
Besides
دُونِ Besides dūni
Besides
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
فَٱهْدُوهُمْ then lead them fa-ih'dūhum
then lead them
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
صِرَٰطِ (the) Path ṣirāṭi
(the) Path
ٱلْجَحِيمِ (of) the Hellfire l-jaḥīmi
(of) the Hellfire
٢٣ (23)
(23)
Other than Allāh, and guide them to the path of Hellfire
٣٧:٢٤
وَقِفُوهُمْ ۖ And stop them waqifūhum
And stop them
إِنَّهُم indeed, they innahum
indeed, they
مَّسْـُٔولُونَ (are) to be questioned masūlūna
(are) to be questioned
٢٤ (24)
(24)
And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned."
٣٧:٢٥
مَا What
What
لَكُمْ (is) for you lakum
(is) for you
لَا (Why) not
(Why) not
تَنَاصَرُونَ you help one another tanāṣarūna
you help one another
٢٥ (25)
(25)
[They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?"
٣٧:٢٦
بَلْ Nay bal
Nay
هُمُ they humu
they
ٱلْيَوْمَ (on) that Day l-yawma
(on) that Day
مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ (will) surrender mus'taslimūna
(will) surrender
٢٦ (26)
(26)
But they, that Day, are in surrender.
٣٧:٢٧
وَأَقْبَلَ And will approach wa-aqbala
And will approach
بَعْضُهُمْ some of them baʿḍuhum
some of them
عَلَىٰ to ʿalā
to
بَعْضٍۢ others baʿḍin
others
يَتَسَآءَلُونَ questioning one another yatasāalūna
questioning one another
٢٧ (27)
(27)
And they will approach one another asking [i.e., blaming] each other.
٣٧:٢٨
قَالُوٓا۟ They will say qālū
They will say
إِنَّكُمْ Indeed, you innakum
Indeed, you
كُنتُمْ [you] used (to) kuntum
[you] used (to)
تَأْتُونَنَا come (to) us tatūnanā
come (to) us
عَنِ from ʿani
from
ٱلْيَمِينِ the right l-yamīni
the right
٢٨ (28)
(28)
They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right."1
٣٧:٢٩
قَالُوا۟ They will say qālū
They will say
بَل Nay bal
Nay
لَّمْ not lam
not
تَكُونُوا۟ you were takūnū
you were
مُؤْمِنِينَ believers mu'minīna
believers
٢٩ (29)
(29)
They [i.e., the oppressors] will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers,
٣٧:٣٠
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
كَانَ was kāna
was
لَنَا for us lanā
for us
عَلَيْكُم over you ʿalaykum
over you
مِّن any min
any
سُلْطَـٰنٍۭ ۖ authority sul'ṭānin
authority
بَلْ Nay bal
Nay
كُنتُمْ you were kuntum
you were
قَوْمًۭا a people qawman
a people
طَـٰغِينَ transgressing ṭāghīna
transgressing
٣٠ (30)
(30)
And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people.
٣٧:٣١
فَحَقَّ So has been proved true faḥaqqa
So has been proved true
عَلَيْنَا against us ʿalaynā
against us
قَوْلُ (the) Word qawlu
(the) Word
رَبِّنَآ ۖ (of) our Lord rabbinā
(of) our Lord
إِنَّا indeed, we innā
indeed, we
لَذَآئِقُونَ (will) certainly taste ladhāiqūna
(will) certainly taste
٣١ (31)
(31)
So the word [i.e., decree] of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment].
٣٧:٣٢
فَأَغْوَيْنَـٰكُمْ So we led you astray fa-aghwaynākum
So we led you astray
إِنَّا indeed, we innā
indeed, we
كُنَّا were kunnā
were
غَـٰوِينَ astray ghāwīna
astray
٣٢ (32)
(32)
And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators."
٣٧:٣٣
فَإِنَّهُمْ Then indeed, they fa-innahum
Then indeed, they
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ that Day yawma-idhin
that Day
فِى in
in
ٱلْعَذَابِ the punishment l-ʿadhābi
the punishment
مُشْتَرِكُونَ (will be) sharers mush'tarikūna
(will be) sharers
٣٣ (33)
(33)
So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment.
٣٧:٣٤
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We
كَذَٰلِكَ thus kadhālika
thus
نَفْعَلُ We deal nafʿalu
We deal
بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ with the criminals bil-muj'rimīna
with the criminals
٣٤ (34)
(34)
Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals.
٣٧:٣٥
إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they innahum
Indeed, they
كَانُوٓا۟ were kānū
were
إِذَا when idhā
when
قِيلَ it was said qīla
it was said
لَهُمْ to them lahum
to them
لَآ (There is) no
(There is) no
إِلَـٰهَ god ilāha
god
إِلَّا except illā
except
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ were arrogant yastakbirūna
were arrogant
٣٥ (35)
(35)
Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allāh," were arrogant
٣٧:٣٦
وَيَقُولُونَ And they say wayaqūlūna
And they say
أَئِنَّا Are we a-innā
Are we
لَتَارِكُوٓا۟ to leave latārikū
to leave
ءَالِهَتِنَا our gods ālihatinā
our gods
لِشَاعِرٍۢ for a poet lishāʿirin
for a poet
مَّجْنُونٍۭ mad majnūnin
mad
٣٦ (36)
(36)
And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?"
٣٧:٣٧
بَلْ Nay bal
Nay
جَآءَ he has brought jāa
he has brought
بِٱلْحَقِّ the truth bil-ḥaqi
the truth
وَصَدَّقَ and confirmed waṣaddaqa
and confirmed
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
٣٧ (37)
(37)
Rather, he [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ)] has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers.
٣٧:٣٨
إِنَّكُمْ Indeed, you innakum
Indeed, you
لَذَآئِقُوا۟ (will) surely taste ladhāiqū
(will) surely taste
ٱلْعَذَابِ the punishment l-ʿadhābi
the punishment
ٱلْأَلِيمِ painful l-alīmi
painful
٣٨ (38)
(38)
Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment,
٣٧:٣٩
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
تُجْزَوْنَ you will be recompensed tuj'zawna
you will be recompensed
إِلَّا except illā
except
مَا what
what
كُنتُمْ you used to kuntum
you used to
تَعْمَلُونَ do taʿmalūna
do
٣٩ (39)
(39)
And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do -
٣٧:٤٠
إِلَّا Except illā
Except
عِبَادَ (the) slaves ʿibāda
(the) slaves
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ the chosen ones l-mukh'laṣīna
the chosen ones
٤٠ (40)
(40)
But not the chosen servants of Allāh.
٣٧:٤١
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
رِزْقٌۭ (will be) a provision riz'qun
(will be) a provision
مَّعْلُومٌۭ determined maʿlūmun
determined
٤١ (41)
(41)
Those will have a provision determined -
٣٧:٤٢
فَوَٰكِهُ ۖ Fruits fawākihu
Fruits
وَهُم and they wahum
and they
مُّكْرَمُونَ (will) be honored muk'ramūna
(will) be honored
٤٢ (42)
(42)
Fruits; and they will be honored
٣٧:٤٣
فِى In
In
جَنَّـٰتِ Gardens jannāti
Gardens
ٱلنَّعِيمِ (of) Delight l-naʿīmi
(of) Delight
٤٣ (43)
(43)
In gardens of pleasure
٣٧:٤٤
عَلَىٰ On ʿalā
On
سُرُرٍۢ thrones sururin
thrones
مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ facing each other mutaqābilīna
facing each other
٤٤ (44)
(44)
On thrones facing one another.
٣٧:٤٥
يُطَافُ Will be circulated yuṭāfu
Will be circulated
عَلَيْهِم among them ʿalayhim
among them
بِكَأْسٍۢ a cup bikasin
a cup
مِّن from min
from
مَّعِينٍۭ a flowing spring maʿīnin
a flowing spring
٤٥ (45)
(45)
There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring,
٣٧:٤٦
بَيْضَآءَ White bayḍāa
White
لَذَّةٍۢ delicious ladhatin
delicious
لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ for the drinkers lilshāribīna
for the drinkers
٤٦ (46)
(46)
White and delicious to the drinkers;
٣٧:٤٧
لَا Not
Not
فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it
غَوْلٌۭ (is) bad effect ghawlun
(is) bad effect
وَلَا and not walā
and not
هُمْ they hum
they
عَنْهَا from it ʿanhā
from it
يُنزَفُونَ will be intoxicated yunzafūna
will be intoxicated
٤٧ (47)
(47)
No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated.
٣٧:٤٨
وَعِندَهُمْ And with them waʿindahum
And with them
قَـٰصِرَٰتُ (will be) companions of modest gaze qāṣirātu
(will be) companions of modest gaze
ٱلطَّرْفِ (will be) companions of modest gaze l-ṭarfi
(will be) companions of modest gaze
عِينٌۭ (having) beautiful eyes ʿīnun
(having) beautiful eyes
٤٨ (48)
(48)
And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes,
٣٧:٤٩
كَأَنَّهُنَّ As if they were ka-annahunna
As if they were
بَيْضٌۭ eggs bayḍun
eggs
مَّكْنُونٌۭ well protected maknūnun
well protected
٤٩ (49)
(49)
As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected.
٣٧:٥٠
فَأَقْبَلَ And (will) approach fa-aqbala
And (will) approach
بَعْضُهُمْ some of them baʿḍuhum
some of them
عَلَىٰ to ʿalā
to
بَعْضٍۢ others baʿḍin
others
يَتَسَآءَلُونَ questioning one another yatasāalūna
questioning one another
٥٠ (50)
(50)
And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.
٣٧:٥١
قَالَ Will say qāla
Will say
قَآئِلٌۭ a speaker qāilun
a speaker
مِّنْهُمْ among them min'hum
among them
إِنِّى Indeed, I innī
Indeed, I
كَانَ had kāna
had
لِى for me
for me
قَرِينٌۭ a companion qarīnun
a companion
٥١ (51)
(51)
A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth].
٣٧:٥٢
يَقُولُ Who (would) say yaqūlu
Who (would) say
أَءِنَّكَ Are you indeed a-innaka
Are you indeed
لَمِنَ surely of lamina
surely of
ٱلْمُصَدِّقِينَ those who believe l-muṣadiqīna
those who believe
٥٢ (52)
(52)
Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe
٣٧:٥٣
أَءِذَا Is (it) when a-idhā
Is (it) when
مِتْنَا we have died mit'nā
we have died
وَكُنَّا and become wakunnā
and become
تُرَابًۭا dust turāban
dust
وَعِظَـٰمًا and bones waʿiẓāman
and bones
أَءِنَّا will we a-innā
will we
لَمَدِينُونَ surely be brought to Judgment lamadīnūna
surely be brought to Judgment
٥٣ (53)
(53)
That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'"
٣٧:٥٤
قَالَ He (will) say qāla
He (will) say
هَلْ Will hal
Will
أَنتُم you antum
you
مُّطَّلِعُونَ be looking muṭṭaliʿūna
be looking
٥٤ (54)
(54)
He will say, "Would you [care to] look?"
٣٧:٥٥
فَٱطَّلَعَ Then he (will) look fa-iṭṭalaʿa
Then he (will) look
فَرَءَاهُ and see him faraāhu
and see him
فِى in
in
سَوَآءِ (the) midst sawāi
(the) midst
ٱلْجَحِيمِ (of) the Hellfire l-jaḥīmi
(of) the Hellfire
٥٥ (55)
(55)
And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire.
٣٧:٥٦
قَالَ He (will) say qāla
He (will) say
تَٱللَّهِ By Allah tal-lahi
By Allah
إِن verily in
verily
كِدتَّ you almost kidtta
you almost
لَتُرْدِينِ ruined me latur'dīni
ruined me
٥٦ (56)
(56)
He will say, "By Allāh, you almost ruined me.
٣٧:٥٧
وَلَوْلَا And if not walawlā
And if not
نِعْمَةُ (for the) Grace niʿ'matu
(for the) Grace
رَبِّى (of) my Lord rabbī
(of) my Lord
لَكُنتُ certainly, I (would) have been lakuntu
certainly, I (would) have been
مِنَ among mina
among
ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَ those brought l-muḥ'ḍarīna
those brought
٥٧ (57)
(57)
If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell].
٣٧:٥٨
أَفَمَا Then are not afamā
Then are not
نَحْنُ we naḥnu
we
بِمَيِّتِينَ (to) die bimayyitīna
(to) die
٥٨ (58)
(58)
Then, are we not to die
٣٧:٥٩
إِلَّا Except illā
Except
مَوْتَتَنَا our death mawtatanā
our death
ٱلْأُولَىٰ the first l-ūlā
the first
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
نَحْنُ we naḥnu
we
بِمُعَذَّبِينَ will be punished bimuʿadhabīna
will be punished
٥٩ (59)
(59)
Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?"
٣٧:٦٠
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this
لَهُوَ surely lahuwa
surely
ٱلْفَوْزُ (is) the attainment l-fawzu
(is) the attainment
ٱلْعَظِيمُ great l-ʿaẓīmu
great
٦٠ (60)
(60)
Indeed, this is the great attainment.
٣٧:٦١
لِمِثْلِ For (the) like limith'li
For (the) like
هَـٰذَا (of) this hādhā
(of) this
فَلْيَعْمَلِ let work falyaʿmali
let work
ٱلْعَـٰمِلُونَ the workers l-ʿāmilūna
the workers
٦١ (61)
(61)
For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work.
٣٧:٦٢
أَذَٰلِكَ Is that adhālika
Is that
خَيْرٌۭ better khayrun
better
نُّزُلًا (as) hospitality nuzulan
(as) hospitality
أَمْ or am
or
شَجَرَةُ (the) tree shajaratu
(the) tree
ٱلزَّقُّومِ (of) Zaqqum l-zaqūmi
(of) Zaqqum
٦٢ (62)
(62)
Is that [i.e., Paradise] a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqūm?
٣٧:٦٣
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We
جَعَلْنَـٰهَا [We] have made it jaʿalnāhā
[We] have made it
فِتْنَةًۭ a trial fit'natan
a trial
لِّلظَّـٰلِمِينَ for the wrongdoers lilẓẓālimīna
for the wrongdoers
٦٣ (63)
(63)
Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers.
٣٧:٦٤
إِنَّهَا Indeed, it innahā
Indeed, it
شَجَرَةٌۭ (is) a tree shajaratun
(is) a tree
تَخْرُجُ that grows takhruju
that grows
فِىٓ in
in
أَصْلِ (the) bottom aṣli
(the) bottom
ٱلْجَحِيمِ (of) the Hellfire l-jaḥīmi
(of) the Hellfire
٦٤ (64)
(64)
Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire,
٣٧:٦٥
طَلْعُهَا Its emerging fruit ṭalʿuhā
Its emerging fruit
كَأَنَّهُۥ (is) as if it ka-annahu
(is) as if it
رُءُوسُ (was) heads ruūsu
(was) heads
ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ (of) the devils l-shayāṭīni
(of) the devils
٦٥ (65)
(65)
Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils.
٣٧:٦٦
فَإِنَّهُمْ And indeed, they fa-innahum
And indeed, they
لَـَٔاكِلُونَ (will) surely eat laākilūna
(will) surely eat
مِنْهَا from it min'hā
from it
فَمَالِـُٔونَ and fill famāliūna
and fill
مِنْهَا with it min'hā
with it
ٱلْبُطُونَ (their) bellies l-buṭūna
(their) bellies
٦٦ (66)
(66)
And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies.
٣٧:٦٧
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
إِنَّ indeed inna
indeed
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
عَلَيْهَا in it ʿalayhā
in it
لَشَوْبًۭا (is) a mixture lashawban
(is) a mixture
مِّنْ of min
of
حَمِيمٍۢ boiling water ḥamīmin
boiling water
٦٧ (67)
(67)
Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water.
٣٧:٦٨
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
إِنَّ indeed inna
indeed
مَرْجِعَهُمْ their return marjiʿahum
their return
لَإِلَى (will) surely be to la-ilā
(will) surely be to
ٱلْجَحِيمِ the Hellfire l-jaḥīmi
the Hellfire
٦٨ (68)
(68)
Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire.
٣٧:٦٩
إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they innahum
Indeed, they
أَلْفَوْا۟ found alfaw
found
ءَابَآءَهُمْ their fathers ābāahum
their fathers
ضَآلِّينَ astray ḍāllīna
astray
٦٩ (69)
(69)
Indeed they found their fathers astray.
٣٧:٧٠
فَهُمْ So they fahum
So they
عَلَىٰٓ on ʿalā
on
ءَاثَـٰرِهِمْ their footsteps āthārihim
their footsteps
يُهْرَعُونَ they hastened yuh'raʿūna
they hastened
٧٠ (70)
(70)
So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps.
٣٧:٧١
وَلَقَدْ And verily walaqad
And verily
ضَلَّ went astray ḍalla
went astray
قَبْلَهُمْ before them qablahum
before them
أَكْثَرُ most aktharu
most
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (of) the former (people) l-awalīna
(of) the former (people)
٧١ (71)
(71)
And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples,
٣٧:٧٢
وَلَقَدْ And verily walaqad
And verily
أَرْسَلْنَا We sent arsalnā
We sent
فِيهِم among them fīhim
among them
مُّنذِرِينَ warners mundhirīna
warners
٧٢ (72)
(72)
And We had already sent among them warners.
٣٧:٧٣
فَٱنظُرْ Then see fa-unẓur
Then see
كَيْفَ how kayfa
how
كَانَ was kāna
was
عَـٰقِبَةُ (the) end ʿāqibatu
(the) end
ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ (of) those who were warned l-mundharīna
(of) those who were warned
٧٣ (73)
(73)
Then look how was the end of those who were warned -
٣٧:٧٤
إِلَّا Except illā
Except
عِبَادَ (the) slaves ʿibāda
(the) slaves
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ the chosen ones l-mukh'laṣīna
the chosen ones
٧٤ (74)
(74)
But not the chosen servants of Allāh.
٣٧:٧٥
وَلَقَدْ And verily walaqad
And verily
نَادَىٰنَا called Us nādānā
called Us
نُوحٌۭ Nuh nūḥun
Nuh
فَلَنِعْمَ and Best falaniʿ'ma
and Best
ٱلْمُجِيبُونَ (are We as) Responders l-mujībūna
(are We as) Responders
٧٥ (75)
(75)
And Noah had certainly called Us, and [We are] the best of responders.
٣٧:٧٦
وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ And We saved him wanajjaynāhu
And We saved him
وَأَهْلَهُۥ and his family wa-ahlahu
and his family
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلْكَرْبِ the distress l-karbi
the distress
ٱلْعَظِيمِ the great l-ʿaẓīmi
the great
٧٦ (76)
(76)
And We saved him and his family from the great affliction.
٣٧:٧٧
وَجَعَلْنَا And We made wajaʿalnā
And We made
ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥ his offspring dhurriyyatahu
his offspring
هُمُ [they] humu
[they]
ٱلْبَاقِينَ the survivors l-bāqīna
the survivors
٧٧ (77)
(77)
And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth]
٣٧:٧٨
وَتَرَكْنَا And We left wataraknā
And We left
عَلَيْهِ for him ʿalayhi
for him
فِى among
among
ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ the later generations l-ākhirīna
the later generations
٧٨ (78)
(78)
And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
٣٧:٧٩
سَلَـٰمٌ Peace be salāmun
Peace be
عَلَىٰ upon ʿalā
upon
نُوحٍۢ Nuh nūḥin
Nuh
فِى among
among
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ the worlds l-ʿālamīna
the worlds
٧٩ (79)
(79)
"Peace upon Noah among the worlds."
٣٧:٨٠
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We
كَذَٰلِكَ thus kadhālika
thus
نَجْزِى [We] reward najzī
[We] reward
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ the good-doers l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers
٨٠ (80)
(80)
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
٣٧:٨١
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he innahu
Indeed, he
مِنْ (was) of min
(was) of
عِبَادِنَا Our slaves ʿibādinā
Our slaves
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ believing l-mu'minīna
believing
٨١ (81)
(81)
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.
٣٧:٨٢
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
أَغْرَقْنَا We drowned aghraqnā
We drowned
ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ the others l-ākharīna
the others
٨٢ (82)
(82)
Then We drowned the others [i.e., disbelievers].
٣٧:٨٣
۞ وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
مِن among min
among
شِيعَتِهِۦ his kind shīʿatihi
his kind
لَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ (was) surely Ibrahim la-ib'rāhīma
(was) surely Ibrahim
٨٣ (83)
(83)
And indeed, among his kind was Abraham,
٣٧:٨٤
إِذْ When idh
When
جَآءَ he came jāa
he came
رَبَّهُۥ (to) his Lord rabbahu
(to) his Lord
بِقَلْبٍۢ with a heart biqalbin
with a heart
سَلِيمٍ sound salīmin
sound
٨٤ (84)
(84)
When he came to his Lord with a sound heart
٣٧:٨٥
إِذْ When idh
When
قَالَ he said qāla
he said
لِأَبِيهِ to his father li-abīhi
to his father
وَقَوْمِهِۦ and his people waqawmihi
and his people
مَاذَا What is it mādhā
What is it
تَعْبُدُونَ you worship taʿbudūna
you worship
٨٥ (85)
(85)
[And] when he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?
٣٧:٨٦
أَئِفْكًا Is it falsehood a-if'kan
Is it falsehood
ءَالِهَةًۭ gods ālihatan
gods
دُونَ other than dūna
other than
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
تُرِيدُونَ (that) you desire turīdūna
(that) you desire
٨٦ (86)
(86)
Is it falsehood [as] gods other than Allāh you desire?
٣٧:٨٧
فَمَا Then what famā
Then what
ظَنُّكُم (do) you think ẓannukum
(do) you think
بِرَبِّ about (the) Lord birabbi
about (the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds
٨٧ (87)
(87)
Then what is your thought about the Lord of the worlds?"
٣٧:٨٨
فَنَظَرَ Then he glanced fanaẓara
Then he glanced
نَظْرَةًۭ a glance naẓratan
a glance
فِى at
at
ٱلنُّجُومِ the stars l-nujūmi
the stars
٨٨ (88)
(88)
And he cast a look at the stars.
٣٧:٨٩
فَقَالَ And he said faqāla
And he said
إِنِّى Indeed, I am innī
Indeed, I am
سَقِيمٌۭ sick saqīmun
sick
٨٩ (89)
(89)
And said, "Indeed, I am [about to be] ill."
٣٧:٩٠
فَتَوَلَّوْا۟ So they turned away fatawallaw
So they turned away
عَنْهُ from him ʿanhu
from him
مُدْبِرِينَ departing mud'birīna
departing
٩٠ (90)
(90)
So they turned away from him, departing.
٣٧:٩١
فَرَاغَ Then he turned farāgha
Then he turned
إِلَىٰٓ to ilā
to
ءَالِهَتِهِمْ their gods ālihatihim
their gods
فَقَالَ and said faqāla
and said
أَلَا Do not alā
Do not
تَأْكُلُونَ you eat takulūna
you eat
٩١ (91)
(91)
Then he turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat?
٣٧:٩٢
مَا What (is)
What (is)
لَكُمْ for you lakum
for you
لَا not
not
تَنطِقُونَ you speak tanṭiqūna
you speak
٩٢ (92)
(92)
What is [wrong] with you that you do not speak?".
٣٧:٩٣
فَرَاغَ Then he turned farāgha
Then he turned
عَلَيْهِمْ upon them ʿalayhim
upon them
ضَرْبًۢا striking ḍarban
striking
بِٱلْيَمِينِ with the right hand bil-yamīni
with the right hand
٩٣ (93)
(93)
And he turned upon them a blow with [his] right hand.
٣٧:٩٤
فَأَقْبَلُوٓا۟ Then they advanced fa-aqbalū
Then they advanced
إِلَيْهِ towards him ilayhi
towards him
يَزِفُّونَ hastening yaziffūna
hastening
٩٤ (94)
(94)
Then they [i.e., the people] came toward him, hastening.
٣٧:٩٥
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
أَتَعْبُدُونَ Do you worship ataʿbudūna
Do you worship
مَا what
what
تَنْحِتُونَ you carve tanḥitūna
you carve
٩٥ (95)
(95)
He said, "Do you worship that which you [yourselves] carve,
٣٧:٩٦
وَٱللَّهُ While Allah wal-lahu
While Allah
خَلَقَكُمْ created you khalaqakum
created you
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
تَعْمَلُونَ you make taʿmalūna
you make
٩٦ (96)
(96)
While Allāh created you and that which you do?"
٣٧:٩٧
قَالُوا۟ They said qālū
They said
ٱبْنُوا۟ Build ib'nū
Build
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
بُنْيَـٰنًۭا a structure bun'yānan
a structure
فَأَلْقُوهُ and throw him fa-alqūhu
and throw him
فِى into
into
ٱلْجَحِيمِ the blazing Fire l-jaḥīmi
the blazing Fire
٩٧ (97)
(97)
They said, "Construct for him a structure [i.e., furnace] and throw him into the burning fire."
٣٧:٩٨
فَأَرَادُوا۟ And they intended fa-arādū
And they intended
بِهِۦ for him bihi
for him
كَيْدًۭا a plot kaydan
a plot
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمُ but We made them fajaʿalnāhumu
but We made them
ٱلْأَسْفَلِينَ the lowest l-asfalīna
the lowest
٩٨ (98)
(98)
And they intended for him a plan [i.e., harm], but We made them the most debased.
٣٧:٩٩
وَقَالَ And he said waqāla
And he said
إِنِّى Indeed, I am innī
Indeed, I am
ذَاهِبٌ going dhāhibun
going
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
رَبِّى my Lord rabbī
my Lord
سَيَهْدِينِ He will guide me sayahdīni
He will guide me
٩٩ (99)
(99)
And [then] he said, "Indeed, I will go to [where I am ordered by] my Lord; He will guide me.
٣٧:١٠٠
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
هَبْ grant hab
grant
لِى me
me
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ the righteous l-ṣāliḥīna
the righteous
١٠٠ (100)
(100)
My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous."
٣٧:١٠١
فَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ So We gave him the glad tidings fabasharnāhu
So We gave him the glad tidings
بِغُلَـٰمٍ of a boy bighulāmin
of a boy
حَلِيمٍۢ forbearing ḥalīmin
forbearing
١٠١ (101)
(101)
So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy.
٣٧:١٠٢
فَلَمَّا Then when falammā
Then when
بَلَغَ he reached balagha
he reached
مَعَهُ the (age of) working with him maʿahu
the (age of) working with him
ٱلسَّعْىَ the (age of) working with him l-saʿya
the (age of) working with him
قَالَ he said qāla
he said
يَـٰبُنَىَّ O my son yābunayya
O my son
إِنِّىٓ Indeed, I innī
Indeed, I
أَرَىٰ have seen arā
have seen
فِى in
in
ٱلْمَنَامِ the dream l-manāmi
the dream
أَنِّىٓ that I am annī
that I am
أَذْبَحُكَ sacrificing you adhbaḥuka
sacrificing you
فَٱنظُرْ so look fa-unẓur
so look
مَاذَا what mādhā
what
تَرَىٰ ۚ you see tarā
you see
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
يَـٰٓأَبَتِ O my father yāabati
O my father
ٱفْعَلْ Do if'ʿal
Do
مَا what
what
تُؤْمَرُ ۖ you are commanded tu'maru
you are commanded
سَتَجِدُنِىٓ You will find me satajidunī
You will find me
إِن if in
if
شَآءَ Allah wills shāa
Allah wills
ٱللَّهُ Allah wills l-lahu
Allah wills
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ the patient ones l-ṣābirīna
the patient ones
١٠٢ (102)
(102)
And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion, he said, "O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think." He said, "O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allāh wills, of the steadfast."
٣٧:١٠٣
فَلَمَّآ Then when falammā
Then when
أَسْلَمَا both of them had submitted aslamā
both of them had submitted
وَتَلَّهُۥ and he put him down watallahu
and he put him down
لِلْجَبِينِ upon his forehead lil'jabīni
upon his forehead
١٠٣ (103)
(103)
And when they had both submitted and he put him down upon his forehead,
٣٧:١٠٤
وَنَـٰدَيْنَـٰهُ And We called out to him wanādaynāhu
And We called out to him
أَن that an
that
يَـٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُ O Ibrahim yāib'rāhīmu
O Ibrahim
١٠٤ (104)
(104)
We called to him, "O Abraham,
٣٧:١٠٥
قَدْ Verily qad
Verily
صَدَّقْتَ you have fulfilled ṣaddaqta
you have fulfilled
ٱلرُّءْيَآ ۚ the vision l-ru'yā
the vision
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We
كَذَٰلِكَ thus kadhālika
thus
نَجْزِى [We] reward najzī
[We] reward
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ the good-doers l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers
١٠٥ (105)
(105)
You have fulfilled the vision." Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
٣٧:١٠٦
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this
لَهُوَ (was) surely [it] lahuwa
(was) surely [it]
ٱلْبَلَـٰٓؤُا۟ the trial l-balāu
the trial
ٱلْمُبِينُ clear l-mubīnu
clear
١٠٦ (106)
(106)
Indeed, this was the clear trial.
٣٧:١٠٧
وَفَدَيْنَـٰهُ And We ransomed him wafadaynāhu
And We ransomed him
بِذِبْحٍ with a sacrifice bidhib'ḥin
with a sacrifice
عَظِيمٍۢ great ʿaẓīmin
great
١٠٧ (107)
(107)
And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice,
٣٧:١٠٨
وَتَرَكْنَا And We left wataraknā
And We left
عَلَيْهِ for him ʿalayhi
for him
فِى among
among
ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ the later generations l-ākhirīna
the later generations
١٠٨ (108)
(108)
And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
٣٧:١٠٩
سَلَـٰمٌ Peace be salāmun
Peace be
عَلَىٰٓ on ʿalā
on
إِبْرَٰهِيمَ Ibrahim ib'rāhīma
Ibrahim
١٠٩ (109)
(109)
"Peace upon Abraham."
٣٧:١١٠
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika
Thus
نَجْزِى We reward najzī
We reward
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ the good-doers l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers
١١٠ (110)
(110)
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
٣٧:١١١
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he (was) innahu
Indeed, he (was)
مِنْ of min
of
عِبَادِنَا Our slaves ʿibādinā
Our slaves
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ believing l-mu'minīna
believing
١١١ (111)
(111)
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.
٣٧:١١٢
وَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ And We gave him glad tidings wabasharnāhu
And We gave him glad tidings
بِإِسْحَـٰقَ of Isaac bi-is'ḥāqa
of Isaac
نَبِيًّۭا a Prophet nabiyyan
a Prophet
مِّنَ among mina
among
ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ the righteous l-ṣāliḥīna
the righteous
١١٢ (112)
(112)
And We gave him good tidings of Isaac, a prophet from among the righteous.
٣٧:١١٣
وَبَـٰرَكْنَا And We blessed wabāraknā
And We blessed
عَلَيْهِ him ʿalayhi
him
وَعَلَىٰٓ and [on] waʿalā
and [on]
إِسْحَـٰقَ ۚ Isaac is'ḥāqa
Isaac
وَمِن And of wamin
And of
ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا their offspring dhurriyyatihimā
their offspring
مُحْسِنٌۭ (are) good-doers muḥ'sinun
(are) good-doers
وَظَالِمٌۭ and unjust waẓālimun
and unjust
لِّنَفْسِهِۦ to himself linafsihi
to himself
مُبِينٌۭ clear mubīnun
clear
١١٣ (113)
(113)
And We blessed him and Isaac. But among their descendants is the doer of good and the clearly unjust to himself [i.e., sinner].
٣٧:١١٤
وَلَقَدْ And verily walaqad
And verily
مَنَنَّا We conferred Favor manannā
We conferred Favor
عَلَىٰ upon ʿalā
upon
مُوسَىٰ Musa mūsā
Musa
وَهَـٰرُونَ and Harun wahārūna
and Harun
١١٤ (114)
(114)
And We did certainly confer favor upon Moses and Aaron.
٣٧:١١٥
وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُمَا And We saved both of them wanajjaynāhumā
And We saved both of them
وَقَوْمَهُمَا and their people waqawmahumā
and their people
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلْكَرْبِ the distress l-karbi
the distress
ٱلْعَظِيمِ the great l-ʿaẓīmi
the great
١١٥ (115)
(115)
And We saved them and their people from the great affliction,
٣٧:١١٦
وَنَصَرْنَـٰهُمْ And We helped them wanaṣarnāhum
And We helped them
فَكَانُوا۟ so they became fakānū
so they became
هُمُ so they became humu
so they became
ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ the victors l-ghālibīna
the victors
١١٦ (116)
(116)
And We supported them so it was they who overcame.
٣٧:١١٧
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمَا And We gave both of them waātaynāhumā
And We gave both of them
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book l-kitāba
the Book
ٱلْمُسْتَبِينَ the clear l-mus'tabīna
the clear
١١٧ (117)
(117)
And We gave them the explicit Scripture [i.e., the Torah],
٣٧:١١٨
وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُمَا And We guided both of them wahadaynāhumā
And We guided both of them
ٱلصِّرَٰطَ (to) the Path l-ṣirāṭa
(to) the Path
ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ the Straight l-mus'taqīma
the Straight
١١٨ (118)
(118)
And We guided them on the straight path.
٣٧:١١٩
وَتَرَكْنَا And We left wataraknā
And We left
عَلَيْهِمَا for both of them ʿalayhimā
for both of them
فِى among
among
ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ the later generations l-ākhirīna
the later generations
١١٩ (119)
(119)
And We left for them [favorable mention] among later generations:
٣٧:١٢٠
سَلَـٰمٌ Peace be salāmun
Peace be
عَلَىٰ upon ʿalā
upon
مُوسَىٰ Musa mūsā
Musa
وَهَـٰرُونَ and Harun wahārūna
and Harun
١٢٠ (120)
(120)
"Peace upon Moses and Aaron."
٣٧:١٢١
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We
كَذَٰلِكَ thus kadhālika
thus
نَجْزِى reward najzī
reward
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ the good-doers l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers
١٢١ (121)
(121)
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
٣٧:١٢٢
إِنَّهُمَا Indeed, both of them innahumā
Indeed, both of them
مِنْ (were) of min
(were) of
عِبَادِنَا Our slaves ʿibādinā
Our slaves
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ believing l-mu'minīna
believing
١٢٢ (122)
(122)
Indeed, they were of Our believing servants.
٣٧:١٢٣
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
إِلْيَاسَ Elijah il'yāsa
Elijah
لَمِنَ (was) surely of lamina
(was) surely of
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
١٢٣ (123)
(123)
And indeed, Elias was from among the messengers,
٣٧:١٢٤
إِذْ When idh
When
قَالَ he said qāla
he said
لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ to his people liqawmihi
to his people
أَلَا Will not alā
Will not
تَتَّقُونَ you fear tattaqūna
you fear
١٢٤ (124)
(124)
When he said to his people, "Will you not fear Allāh?
٣٧:١٢٥
أَتَدْعُونَ Do you call atadʿūna
Do you call
بَعْلًۭا Baal baʿlan
Baal
وَتَذَرُونَ and you forsake watadharūna
and you forsake
أَحْسَنَ (the) Best aḥsana
(the) Best
ٱلْخَـٰلِقِينَ (of) Creators l-khāliqīna
(of) Creators
١٢٥ (125)
(125)
Do you call upon Baʿl and leave the best of creators -
٣٧:١٢٦
ٱللَّهَ Allah al-laha
Allah
رَبَّكُمْ your Lord rabbakum
your Lord
وَرَبَّ and (the) Lord warabba
and (the) Lord
ءَابَآئِكُمُ (of) your forefathers ābāikumu
(of) your forefathers
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (of) your forefathers l-awalīna
(of) your forefathers
١٢٦ (126)
(126)
Allāh, your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers?"
٣٧:١٢٧
فَكَذَّبُوهُ But they denied him fakadhabūhu
But they denied him
فَإِنَّهُمْ so indeed, they fa-innahum
so indeed, they
لَمُحْضَرُونَ (will) surely be brought lamuḥ'ḍarūna
(will) surely be brought
١٢٧ (127)
(127)
And they denied him, so indeed, they will be brought [for punishment],
٣٧:١٢٨
إِلَّا Except illā
Except
عِبَادَ (the) slaves ʿibāda
(the) slaves
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ the chosen ones l-mukh'laṣīna
the chosen ones
١٢٨ (128)
(128)
Except the chosen servants of Allāh.
٣٧:١٢٩
وَتَرَكْنَا And We left wataraknā
And We left
عَلَيْهِ for him ʿalayhi
for him
فِى among
among
ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ the later generations l-ākhirīna
the later generations
١٢٩ (129)
(129)
And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
٣٧:١٣٠
سَلَـٰمٌ Peace be salāmun
Peace be
عَلَىٰٓ upon ʿalā
upon
إِلْ يَاسِينَ Elijah il yāsīna
Elijah
١٣٠ (130)
(130)
"Peace upon Elias."1
٣٧:١٣١
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We
كَذَٰلِكَ thus kadhālika
thus
نَجْزِى reward najzī
reward
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ the good-doers l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers
١٣١ (131)
(131)
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
٣٧:١٣٢
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he (was) innahu
Indeed, he (was)
مِنْ of min
of
عِبَادِنَا Our slaves ʿibādinā
Our slaves
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ believing l-mu'minīna
believing
١٣٢ (132)
(132)
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.
٣٧:١٣٣
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
لُوطًۭا Lut lūṭan
Lut
لَّمِنَ (was) of lamina
(was) of
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
١٣٣ (133)
(133)
And indeed, Lot was among the messengers.
٣٧:١٣٤
إِذْ When idh
When
نَجَّيْنَـٰهُ We saved him najjaynāhu
We saved him
وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ and his family wa-ahlahu
and his family
أَجْمَعِينَ all ajmaʿīna
all
١٣٤ (134)
(134)
[So mention] when We saved him and his family, all,
٣٧:١٣٥
إِلَّا Except illā
Except
عَجُوزًۭا an old woman ʿajūzan
an old woman
فِى (was) among
(was) among
ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ those who remained behind l-ghābirīna
those who remained behind
١٣٥ (135)
(135)
Except an old woman [i.e., his wife] among those who remained [with the evildoers].
٣٧:١٣٦
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
دَمَّرْنَا We destroyed dammarnā
We destroyed
ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ the others l-ākharīna
the others
١٣٦ (136)
(136)
Then We destroyed the others.
٣٧:١٣٧
وَإِنَّكُمْ And indeed, you wa-innakum
And indeed, you
لَتَمُرُّونَ surely pass latamurrūna
surely pass
عَلَيْهِم by them ʿalayhim
by them
مُّصْبِحِينَ (in the) morning muṣ'biḥīna
(in the) morning
١٣٧ (137)
(137)
And indeed, you pass by them in the morning
٣٧:١٣٨
وَبِٱلَّيْلِ ۗ And at night wabi-al-layli
And at night
أَفَلَا Then will not afalā
Then will not
تَعْقِلُونَ you use reason taʿqilūna
you use reason
١٣٨ (138)
(138)
And at night. Then will you not use reason?
٣٧:١٣٩
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
يُونُسَ Yunus yūnusa
Yunus
لَمِنَ (was) surely of lamina
(was) surely of
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
١٣٩ (139)
(139)
And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers.
٣٧:١٤٠
إِذْ When idh
When
أَبَقَ he ran away abaqa
he ran away
إِلَى to ilā
to
ٱلْفُلْكِ the ship l-ful'ki
the ship
ٱلْمَشْحُونِ laden l-mashḥūni
laden
١٤٠ (140)
(140)
[Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship.
٣٧:١٤١
فَسَاهَمَ Then he drew lots fasāhama
Then he drew lots
فَكَانَ and was fakāna
and was
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْمُدْحَضِينَ the losers l-mud'ḥaḍīna
the losers
١٤١ (141)
(141)
And he drew lots and was among the losers.
٣٧:١٤٢
فَٱلْتَقَمَهُ Then swallowed him fal-taqamahu
Then swallowed him
ٱلْحُوتُ the fish l-ḥūtu
the fish
وَهُوَ while he wahuwa
while he
مُلِيمٌۭ (was) blameworthy mulīmun
(was) blameworthy
١٤٢ (142)
(142)
Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy.
٣٧:١٤٣
فَلَوْلَآ And if not falawlā
And if not
أَنَّهُۥ that he annahu
that he
كَانَ was kāna
was
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْمُسَبِّحِينَ those who glorify l-musabiḥīna
those who glorify
١٤٣ (143)
(143)
And had he not been of those who exalt Allāh,
٣٧:١٤٤
لَلَبِثَ Certainly, he (would have) remained lalabitha
Certainly, he (would have) remained
فِى in
in
بَطْنِهِۦٓ its belly baṭnihi
its belly
إِلَىٰ until ilā
until
يَوْمِ the Day yawmi
the Day
يُبْعَثُونَ they are resurrected yub'ʿathūna
they are resurrected
١٤٤ (144)
(144)
He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected.
٣٧:١٤٥
۞ فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُ But We cast him fanabadhnāhu
But We cast him
بِٱلْعَرَآءِ onto the open shore bil-ʿarāi
onto the open shore
وَهُوَ while he wahuwa
while he
سَقِيمٌۭ (was) ill saqīmun
(was) ill
١٤٥ (145)
(145)
But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill.
٣٧:١٤٦
وَأَنۢبَتْنَا And We caused to grow wa-anbatnā
And We caused to grow
عَلَيْهِ over him ʿalayhi
over him
شَجَرَةًۭ a plant shajaratan
a plant
مِّن of min
of
يَقْطِينٍۢ gourd yaqṭīnin
gourd
١٤٦ (146)
(146)
And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine.
٣٧:١٤٧
وَأَرْسَلْنَـٰهُ And We sent him wa-arsalnāhu
And We sent him
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
مِا۟ئَةِ a hundred mi-ati
a hundred
أَلْفٍ thousand alfin
thousand
أَوْ or aw
or
يَزِيدُونَ more yazīdūna
more
١٤٧ (147)
(147)
And We sent him to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more.
٣٧:١٤٨
فَـَٔامَنُوا۟ And they believed faāmanū
And they believed
فَمَتَّعْنَـٰهُمْ so We gave them enjoyment famattaʿnāhum
so We gave them enjoyment
إِلَىٰ for ilā
for
حِينٍۢ a while ḥīnin
a while
١٤٨ (148)
(148)
And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time.
٣٧:١٤٩
فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ Then ask them fa-is'taftihim
Then ask them
أَلِرَبِّكَ Does your Lord alirabbika
Does your Lord
ٱلْبَنَاتُ (have) daughters l-banātu
(have) daughters
وَلَهُمُ while for them walahumu
while for them
ٱلْبَنُونَ (are) sons l-banūna
(are) sons
١٤٩ (149)
(149)
So inquire of them, [O Muḥammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons?
٣٧:١٥٠
أَمْ Or am
Or
خَلَقْنَا did We create khalaqnā
did We create
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ the Angels l-malāikata
the Angels
إِنَـٰثًۭا females ināthan
females
وَهُمْ while they wahum
while they
شَـٰهِدُونَ (were) witnesses shāhidūna
(were) witnesses
١٥٠ (150)
(150)
Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?"
٣٧:١٥١
أَلَآ No doubt alā
No doubt
إِنَّهُم indeed, they innahum
indeed, they
مِّنْ of min
of
إِفْكِهِمْ their falsehood if'kihim
their falsehood
لَيَقُولُونَ [they] say layaqūlūna
[they] say
١٥١ (151)
(151)
Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say,
٣٧:١٥٢
وَلَدَ Allah has begotten walada
Allah has begotten
ٱللَّهُ Allah has begotten l-lahu
Allah has begotten
وَإِنَّهُمْ and indeed, they wa-innahum
and indeed, they
لَكَـٰذِبُونَ surely (are) liars lakādhibūna
surely (are) liars
١٥٢ (152)
(152)
"Allāh has begotten," and indeed, they are liars.
٣٧:١٥٣
أَصْطَفَى Has He chosen aṣṭafā
Has He chosen
ٱلْبَنَاتِ [the] daughters l-banāti
[the] daughters
عَلَى over ʿalā
over
ٱلْبَنِينَ sons l-banīna
sons
١٥٣ (153)
(153)
Has He chosen daughters over sons?
٣٧:١٥٤
مَا What is with you
What is with you
لَكُمْ What is with you lakum
What is with you
كَيْفَ How kayfa
How
تَحْكُمُونَ you judge taḥkumūna
you judge
١٥٤ (154)
(154)
What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement?
٣٧:١٥٥
أَفَلَا Then will not afalā
Then will not
تَذَكَّرُونَ you pay heed tadhakkarūna
you pay heed
١٥٥ (155)
(155)
Then will you not be reminded?
٣٧:١٥٦
أَمْ Or am
Or
لَكُمْ (is) for you lakum
(is) for you
سُلْطَـٰنٌۭ an authority sul'ṭānun
an authority
مُّبِينٌۭ clear mubīnun
clear
١٥٦ (156)
(156)
Or do you have a clear authority?
٣٧:١٥٧
فَأْتُوا۟ Then bring fatū
Then bring
بِكِتَـٰبِكُمْ your book bikitābikum
your book
إِن if in
if
كُنتُمْ you are kuntum
you are
صَـٰدِقِينَ truthful ṣādiqīna
truthful
١٥٧ (157)
(157)
Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful.
٣٧:١٥٨
وَجَعَلُوا۟ And they have made wajaʿalū
And they have made
بَيْنَهُۥ between Him baynahu
between Him
وَبَيْنَ and between wabayna
and between
ٱلْجِنَّةِ the jinn l-jinati
the jinn
نَسَبًۭا ۚ a relationship nasaban
a relationship
وَلَقَدْ but certainly walaqad
but certainly
عَلِمَتِ know ʿalimati
know
ٱلْجِنَّةُ the jinn l-jinatu
the jinn
إِنَّهُمْ that they innahum
that they
لَمُحْضَرُونَ (will) surely be brought lamuḥ'ḍarūna
(will) surely be brought
١٥٨ (158)
(158)
And they have made [i.e., claimed] between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought [to punishment].
٣٧:١٥٩
سُبْحَـٰنَ Glory be sub'ḥāna
Glory be
ٱللَّهِ (to) Allah l-lahi
(to) Allah
عَمَّا above what ʿammā
above what
يَصِفُونَ they attribute yaṣifūna
they attribute
١٥٩ (159)
(159)
Exalted is Allāh above what they describe,
٣٧:١٦٠
إِلَّا Except illā
Except
عِبَادَ (the) slaves ʿibāda
(the) slaves
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ the chosen l-mukh'laṣīna
the chosen
١٦٠ (160)
(160)
Except the chosen servants of Allāh [who do not share in that sin].
٣٧:١٦١
فَإِنَّكُمْ So indeed, you fa-innakum
So indeed, you
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
تَعْبُدُونَ you worship taʿbudūna
you worship
١٦١ (161)
(161)
So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship,
٣٧:١٦٢
مَآ Not
Not
أَنتُمْ you antum
you
عَلَيْهِ from Him ʿalayhi
from Him
بِفَـٰتِنِينَ can tempt away (anyone) bifātinīna
can tempt away (anyone)
١٦٢ (162)
(162)
You cannot tempt [anyone] away from Him
٣٧:١٦٣
إِلَّا Except illā
Except
مَنْ who man
who
هُوَ he huwa
he
صَالِ (is) to burn ṣāli
(is) to burn
ٱلْجَحِيمِ (in) the Hellfire l-jaḥīmi
(in) the Hellfire
١٦٣ (163)
(163)
Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire.
٣٧:١٦٤
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
مِنَّآ among us minnā
among us
إِلَّا except illā
except
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
مَقَامٌۭ (is) a position maqāmun
(is) a position
مَّعْلُومٌۭ known maʿlūmun
known
١٦٤ (164)
(164)
[The angels say], "There is not among us any except that he has a known position.
٣٧:١٦٥
وَإِنَّا And indeed, we wa-innā
And indeed, we
لَنَحْنُ surely, [we] lanaḥnu
surely, [we]
ٱلصَّآفُّونَ stand in rows l-ṣāfūna
stand in rows
١٦٥ (165)
(165)
And indeed, we are those who line up [for prayer].
٣٧:١٦٦
وَإِنَّا And indeed, we wa-innā
And indeed, we
لَنَحْنُ surely, [we] lanaḥnu
surely, [we]
ٱلْمُسَبِّحُونَ glorify (Allah) l-musabiḥūna
glorify (Allah)
١٦٦ (166)
(166)
And indeed, we are those who exalt Allāh."
٣٧:١٦٧
وَإِن And indeed wa-in
And indeed
كَانُوا۟ they used to kānū
they used to
لَيَقُولُونَ say layaqūlūna
say
١٦٧ (167)
(167)
And indeed, they [i.e., the disbelievers] used to say,
٣٧:١٦٨
لَوْ If law
If
أَنَّ that anna
that
عِندَنَا we had ʿindanā
we had
ذِكْرًۭا a reminder dhik'ran
a reminder
مِّنَ from mina
from
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ the former (people) l-awalīna
the former (people)
١٦٨ (168)
(168)
"If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples,
٣٧:١٦٩
لَكُنَّا Certainly, we (would) have been lakunnā
Certainly, we (would) have been
عِبَادَ slaves ʿibāda
slaves
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ the chosen l-mukh'laṣīna
the chosen
١٦٩ (169)
(169)
We would have been the chosen servants of Allāh."
٣٧:١٧٠
فَكَفَرُوا۟ But they disbelieved fakafarū
But they disbelieved
بِهِۦ ۖ in it bihi
in it
فَسَوْفَ so soon fasawfa
so soon
يَعْلَمُونَ they will know yaʿlamūna
they will know
١٧٠ (170)
(170)
But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know.
٣٧:١٧١
وَلَقَدْ And verily walaqad
And verily
سَبَقَتْ has preceded sabaqat
has preceded
كَلِمَتُنَا Our Word kalimatunā
Our Word
لِعِبَادِنَا for Our slaves liʿibādinā
for Our slaves
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
١٧١ (171)
(171)
And Our word [i.e., decree] has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers,
٣٧:١٧٢
إِنَّهُمْ Indeed they innahum
Indeed they
لَهُمُ surely they lahumu
surely they
ٱلْمَنصُورُونَ (would be) the victorious l-manṣūrūna
(would be) the victorious
١٧٢ (172)
(172)
[That] indeed, they would be those given victory
٣٧:١٧٣
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
جُندَنَا Our host jundanā
Our host
لَهُمُ surely, they lahumu
surely, they
ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ (will be) those who overcome l-ghālibūna
(will be) those who overcome
١٧٣ (173)
(173)
And [that] indeed, Our soldiers [i.e., the believers] will be those who overcome.
٣٧:١٧٤
فَتَوَلَّ So turn away fatawalla
So turn away
عَنْهُمْ from them ʿanhum
from them
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
حِينٍۢ a time ḥīnin
a time
١٧٤ (174)
(174)
So, [O Muḥammad], leave them for a time.
٣٧:١٧٥
وَأَبْصِرْهُمْ And see them wa-abṣir'hum
And see them
فَسَوْفَ so soon fasawfa
so soon
يُبْصِرُونَ they will see yub'ṣirūna
they will see
١٧٥ (175)
(175)
And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see.
٣٧:١٧٦
أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا Then is (it) for Our punishment afabiʿadhābinā
Then is (it) for Our punishment
يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ they hasten yastaʿjilūna
they hasten
١٧٦ (176)
(176)
Then for Our punishment are they impatient?
٣٧:١٧٧
فَإِذَا But when fa-idhā
But when
نَزَلَ it descends nazala
it descends
بِسَاحَتِهِمْ in their territory bisāḥatihim
in their territory
فَسَآءَ then evil (will be) fasāa
then evil (will be)
صَبَاحُ (the) morning ṣabāḥu
(the) morning
ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ (for) those who were warned l-mundharīna
(for) those who were warned
١٧٧ (177)
(177)
But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned.
٣٧:١٧٨
وَتَوَلَّ So turn away watawalla
So turn away
عَنْهُمْ from them ʿanhum
from them
حَتَّىٰ for ḥattā
for
حِينٍۢ a time ḥīnin
a time
١٧٨ (178)
(178)
And leave them for a time.
٣٧:١٧٩
وَأَبْصِرْ And see wa-abṣir
And see
فَسَوْفَ so soon fasawfa
so soon
يُبْصِرُونَ they will see yub'ṣirūna
they will see
١٧٩ (179)
(179)
And see, for they are going to see.
٣٧:١٨٠
سُبْحَـٰنَ Glory sub'ḥāna
Glory
رَبِّكَ (be to) your Lord rabbika
(be to) your Lord
رَبِّ (the) Lord rabbi
(the) Lord
ٱلْعِزَّةِ (of) Honor l-ʿizati
(of) Honor
عَمَّا above what ʿammā
above what
يَصِفُونَ they attribute yaṣifūna
they attribute
١٨٠ (180)
(180)
Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe.
٣٧:١٨١
وَسَلَـٰمٌ And peace be wasalāmun
And peace be
عَلَى upon ʿalā
upon
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
١٨١ (181)
(181)
And peace upon the messengers.
٣٧:١٨٢
وَٱلْحَمْدُ And all praise wal-ḥamdu
And all praise
لِلَّهِ (be) to Allah lillahi
(be) to Allah
رَبِّ (the) Lord rabbi
(the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds
١٨٢ (182)
(182)
And praise to Allāh, Lord of the worlds.
