بِسْمِ In (the) name bis'mi
In (the) name
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
42:1
حمٓ Ha Meem hha-meem

عٓسٓقٓ Ayn Seen Qaaf ain-seen-qaf

ʿAyn, Seen, Qāf.
42:3
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika
Thus
يُوحِىٓ reveals yūḥī
reveals
إِلَيْكَ to you ilayka
to you
وَإِلَى and to wa-ilā
and to
ٱلَّذِينَ those alladhīna
those
مِن before you min
before you
قَبْلِكَ before you qablika
before you
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
ٱلْعَزِيزُ the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzu
the All-Mighty
ٱلْحَكِيمُ the All-Wise l-ḥakīmu
the All-Wise
٣ (3)
(3)
Thus has He revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], and to those before you - Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
42:4
لَهُۥ To Him lahu
To Him
مَا (belong) whatever
(belong) whatever
فِى (is) in
(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَمَا and whatever wamā
and whatever
فِى (is) in
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
وَهُوَ and He wahuwa
and He
ٱلْعَلِىُّ (is) the Most High l-ʿaliyu
(is) the Most High
ٱلْعَظِيمُ the Most Great l-ʿaẓīmu
the Most Great
٤ (4)
(4)
To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth, and He is the Most High, the Most Great.
42:5
تَكَادُ Almost takādu
Almost
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ the heavens l-samāwātu
the heavens
يَتَفَطَّرْنَ break up yatafaṭṭarna
break up
مِن from min
from
فَوْقِهِنَّ ۚ above them fawqihinna
above them
وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ and the Angels wal-malāikatu
and the Angels
يُسَبِّحُونَ glorify yusabbiḥūna
glorify
بِحَمْدِ (the) praise biḥamdi
(the) praise
رَبِّهِمْ (of) their Lord rabbihim
(of) their Lord
وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَ and ask for forgiveness wayastaghfirūna
and ask for forgiveness
لِمَن for those liman
for those
فِى on
on
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
أَلَآ Unquestionably alā
Unquestionably
إِنَّ indeed inna
indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
هُوَ He huwa
He
ٱلْغَفُورُ (is) the Oft-Forgiving l-ghafūru
(is) the Oft-Forgiving
ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmu
the Most Merciful
٥ (5)
(5)
The heavens almost break from above them, and the angels exalt [Allāh] with praise of their Lord and ask forgiveness for those on earth. Unquestionably, it is Allāh who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
42:6
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ take ittakhadhū
take
مِن besides min
besides
دُونِهِۦٓ besides dūnihi
besides
أَوْلِيَآءَ protectors awliyāa
protectors
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
حَفِيظٌ (is) a Guardian ḥafīẓun
(is) a Guardian
عَلَيْهِمْ over them ʿalayhim
over them
وَمَآ and not wamā
and not
أَنتَ you anta
you
عَلَيْهِم (are) over them ʿalayhim
(are) over them
بِوَكِيلٍۢ a manager biwakīlin
a manager
٦ (6)
(6)
And those who take as allies other than Him - Allāh is [yet] Guardian over them; and you, [O Muḥammad], are not over them a manager.
42:7
وَكَذَٰلِكَ And thus wakadhālika
And thus
أَوْحَيْنَآ We have revealed awḥaynā
We have revealed
إِلَيْكَ to you ilayka
to you
قُرْءَانًا a Quran qur'ānan
a Quran
عَرَبِيًّۭا (in) Arabic ʿarabiyyan
(in) Arabic
لِّتُنذِرَ that you may warn litundhira
that you may warn
أُمَّ (the) mother umma
(the) mother
ٱلْقُرَىٰ (of) the towns l-qurā
(of) the towns
وَمَنْ and whoever waman
and whoever
حَوْلَهَا (is) around it ḥawlahā
(is) around it
وَتُنذِرَ and warn watundhira
and warn
يَوْمَ (of the) Day yawma
(of the) Day
ٱلْجَمْعِ (of) Assembly l-jamʿi
(of) Assembly
لَا (there is) no
(there is) no
رَيْبَ doubt rayba
doubt
فِيهِ ۚ in it fīhi
in it
فَرِيقٌۭ A party farīqun
A party
فِى (will be) in
(will be) in
ٱلْجَنَّةِ Paradise l-janati
Paradise
وَفَرِيقٌۭ and a party wafarīqun
and a party
فِى in
in
ٱلسَّعِيرِ the Blazing Fire l-saʿīri
the Blazing Fire
٧ (7)
(7)
And thus We have revealed to you an Arabic Qur’ān that you may warn the Mother of Cities [i.e., Makkah] and those around it and warn of the Day of Assembly, about which there is no doubt. A party will be in Paradise and a party in the Blaze.
42:8
وَلَوْ And if walaw
And if
شَآءَ Allah willed shāa
Allah willed
ٱللَّهُ Allah willed l-lahu
Allah willed
لَجَعَلَهُمْ He could have made them lajaʿalahum
He could have made them
أُمَّةًۭ a community ummatan
a community
وَٰحِدَةًۭ one wāḥidatan
one
وَلَـٰكِن but walākin
but
يُدْخِلُ He admits yud'khilu
He admits
مَن whom man
whom
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
فِى in (to)
in (to)
رَحْمَتِهِۦ ۚ His Mercy raḥmatihi
His Mercy
وَٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ And the wrongdoers wal-ẓālimūna
And the wrongdoers
مَا not
not
لَهُم for them lahum
for them
مِّن any min
any
وَلِىٍّۢ protector waliyyin
protector
وَلَا and not walā
and not
نَصِيرٍ any helper naṣīrin
any helper
٨ (8)
(8)
And if Allāh willed, He could have made them [of] one religion, but He admits whom He wills into His mercy. And the wrongdoers have not any protector or helper.
42:9
أَمِ Or ami
Or
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ have they taken ittakhadhū
have they taken
مِن besides Him min
besides Him
دُونِهِۦٓ besides Him dūnihi
besides Him
أَوْلِيَآءَ ۖ protectors awliyāa
protectors
فَٱللَّهُ But Allah fal-lahu
But Allah
هُوَ He huwa
He
ٱلْوَلِىُّ (is) the Protector l-waliyu
(is) the Protector
وَهُوَ and He wahuwa
and He
يُحْىِ gives life yuḥ'yī
gives life
ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ (to) the dead l-mawtā
(to) the dead
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
عَلَىٰ (is) on ʿalā
(is) on
كُلِّ every kulli
every
شَىْءٍۢ thing shayin
thing
قَدِيرٌۭ All-Powerful qadīrun
All-Powerful
٩ (9)
(9)
Or have they taken protectors [or allies] besides Him? But Allāh - He is the Protector, and He gives life to the dead, and He is over all things competent.
42:10
وَمَا And whatever wamā
And whatever
ٱخْتَلَفْتُمْ you differ ikh'talaftum
you differ
فِيهِ in it fīhi
in it
مِن of min
of
شَىْءٍۢ a thing shayin
a thing
فَحُكْمُهُۥٓ then its ruling faḥuk'muhu
then its ruling
إِلَى (is) to ilā
(is) to
ٱللَّهِ ۚ Allah l-lahi
Allah
ذَٰلِكُمُ That dhālikumu
That
ٱللَّهُ (is) Allah l-lahu
(is) Allah
رَبِّى my Lord rabbī
my Lord
عَلَيْهِ upon Him ʿalayhi
upon Him
تَوَكَّلْتُ I put my trust tawakkaltu
I put my trust
وَإِلَيْهِ and to Him wa-ilayhi
and to Him
أُنِيبُ I turn unību
I turn
١٠ (10)
(10)
And in anything over which you disagree - its ruling is [to be referred] to Allāh. [Say], "That is Allāh, my Lord; upon Him I have relied, and to Him I turn back."1
42:11
فَاطِرُ (The) Creator fāṭiru
(The) Creator
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
جَعَلَ He made jaʿala
He made
لَكُم for you lakum
for you
مِّنْ from min
from
أَنفُسِكُمْ yourselves anfusikum
yourselves
أَزْوَٰجًۭا mates azwājan
mates
وَمِنَ and among wamina
and among
ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ the cattle l-anʿāmi
the cattle
أَزْوَٰجًۭا ۖ mates azwājan
mates
يَذْرَؤُكُمْ He multiplies you yadhra-ukum
He multiplies you
فِيهِ ۚ thereby fīhi
thereby
لَيْسَ (There) is not laysa
(There) is not
كَمِثْلِهِۦ like Him kamith'lihi
like Him
شَىْءٌۭ ۖ anything shayon
anything
وَهُوَ and He wahuwa
and He
ٱلسَّمِيعُ (is) the All-Hearer l-samīʿu
(is) the All-Hearer
ٱلْبَصِيرُ the All-Seer l-baṣīru
the All-Seer
١١ (11)
(11)
[He is] Creator of the heavens and the earth. He has made for you from yourselves, mates, and among the cattle, mates; He multiplies you thereby. There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
42:12
لَهُۥ To Him (belongs) lahu
To Him (belongs)
مَقَالِيدُ (the) keys maqālīdu
(the) keys
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
يَبْسُطُ He extends yabsuṭu
He extends
ٱلرِّزْقَ the provision l-riz'qa
the provision
لِمَن for whom liman
for whom
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
وَيَقْدِرُ ۚ and restricts wayaqdiru
and restricts
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He innahu
Indeed, He
بِكُلِّ of every bikulli
of every
شَىْءٍ thing shayin
thing
عَلِيمٌۭ (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knower
١٢ (12)
(12)
To Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth. He extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. Indeed He is, of all things, Knowing.
42:13
۞ شَرَعَ He has ordained sharaʿa
He has ordained
لَكُم for you lakum
for you
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلدِّينِ the religion l-dīni
the religion
مَا what
what
وَصَّىٰ He enjoined waṣṣā
He enjoined
بِهِۦ upon bihi
upon
نُوحًۭا Nuh nūḥan
Nuh
وَٱلَّذِىٓ and that which wa-alladhī
and that which
أَوْحَيْنَآ We have revealed awḥaynā
We have revealed
إِلَيْكَ to you ilayka
to you
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
وَصَّيْنَا We enjoined waṣṣaynā
We enjoined
بِهِۦٓ upon bihi
upon
إِبْرَٰهِيمَ Ibrahim ib'rāhīma
Ibrahim
وَمُوسَىٰ and Musa wamūsā
and Musa
وَعِيسَىٰٓ ۖ and Isa waʿīsā
and Isa
أَنْ To an
To
أَقِيمُوا۟ establish aqīmū
establish
ٱلدِّينَ the religion l-dīna
the religion
وَلَا and not walā
and not
تَتَفَرَّقُوا۟ be divided tatafarraqū
be divided
فِيهِ ۚ therein fīhi
therein
كَبُرَ Is difficult kabura
Is difficult
عَلَى on ʿalā
on
ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ the polytheists l-mush'rikīna
the polytheists
مَا what
what
تَدْعُوهُمْ you call them tadʿūhum
you call them
إِلَيْهِ ۚ to it ilayhi
to it
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
يَجْتَبِىٓ chooses yajtabī
chooses
إِلَيْهِ for Himself ilayhi
for Himself
مَن whom man
whom
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
وَيَهْدِىٓ and guides wayahdī
and guides
إِلَيْهِ to Himself ilayhi
to Himself
مَن whoever man
whoever
يُنِيبُ turns yunību
turns
١٣ (13)
(13)
He has ordained for you of religion what He enjoined upon Noah and that which We have revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus - to establish the religion and not be divided therein. Difficult for those who associate others with Allāh is that to which you invite them. Allāh chooses for Himself whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back [to Him].
42:14
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
تَفَرَّقُوٓا۟ they became divided tafarraqū
they became divided
إِلَّا until illā
until
مِنۢ after min
after
بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after
مَا [what]
[what]
جَآءَهُمُ came to them jāahumu
came to them
ٱلْعِلْمُ the knowledge l-ʿil'mu
the knowledge
بَغْيًۢا (out of) rivalry baghyan
(out of) rivalry
بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ among them baynahum
among them
وَلَوْلَا And if not walawlā
And if not
كَلِمَةٌۭ (for) a word kalimatun
(for) a word
سَبَقَتْ (that) preceded sabaqat
(that) preceded
مِن from min
from
رَّبِّكَ your Lord rabbika
your Lord
إِلَىٰٓ for ilā
for
أَجَلٍۢ a term ajalin
a term
مُّسَمًّۭى specified musamman
specified
لَّقُضِىَ surely, it (would have) been settled laquḍiya
surely, it (would have) been settled
بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ between them baynahum
between them
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
أُورِثُوا۟ were made to inherit ūrithū
were made to inherit
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book l-kitāba
the Book
مِنۢ after them min
after them
بَعْدِهِمْ after them baʿdihim
after them
لَفِى (are) surely in lafī
(are) surely in
شَكٍّۢ doubt shakkin
doubt
مِّنْهُ concerning it min'hu
concerning it
مُرِيبٍۢ disquieting murībin
disquieting
١٤ (14)
(14)
And they did not become divided until after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord [postponing the penalty] until a specified time, it would have been concluded between them. And indeed, those who were granted inheritance of the Scripture after them are, concerning it, in disquieting doubt.
42:15
فَلِذَٰلِكَ So to that falidhālika
So to that
فَٱدْعُ ۖ then invite fa-ud'ʿu
then invite
وَٱسْتَقِمْ and stand firm wa-is'taqim
and stand firm
كَمَآ as kamā
as
أُمِرْتَ ۖ you are commanded umir'ta
you are commanded
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تَتَّبِعْ follow tattabiʿ
follow
أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۖ their desires ahwāahum
their desires
وَقُلْ but say waqul
but say
ءَامَنتُ I believe āmantu
I believe
بِمَآ in what bimā
in what
أَنزَلَ Allah has sent down anzala
Allah has sent down
ٱللَّهُ Allah has sent down l-lahu
Allah has sent down
مِن of min
of
كِتَـٰبٍۢ ۖ (the) Book kitābin
(the) Book
وَأُمِرْتُ and I am commanded wa-umir'tu
and I am commanded
لِأَعْدِلَ that I do justice li-aʿdila
that I do justice
بَيْنَكُمُ ۖ between you baynakumu
between you
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
رَبُّنَا (is) our Lord rabbunā
(is) our Lord
وَرَبُّكُمْ ۖ and your Lord warabbukum
and your Lord
لَنَآ For us lanā
For us
أَعْمَـٰلُنَا our deeds aʿmālunā
our deeds
وَلَكُمْ and for you walakum
and for you
أَعْمَـٰلُكُمْ ۖ your deeds aʿmālukum
your deeds
لَا (There is) no
(There is) no
حُجَّةَ argument ḥujjata
argument
بَيْنَنَا between us baynanā
between us
وَبَيْنَكُمُ ۖ and between you wabaynakumu
and between you
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
يَجْمَعُ will assemble yajmaʿu
will assemble
بَيْنَنَا ۖ [between] us baynanā
[between] us
وَإِلَيْهِ and to Him wa-ilayhi
and to Him
ٱلْمَصِيرُ (is) the final return l-maṣīru
(is) the final return
١٥ (15)
(15)
So to that [religion of Allāh] invite, [O Muḥammad], and remain on a right course as you are commanded and do not follow their inclinations but say, "I have believed in what Allāh has revealed of scripture [i.e., the Qur’ān], and I have been commanded to do justice among you. Allāh is our Lord and your Lord. For us are our deeds, and for you your deeds. There is no [need for] argument between us and you. Allāh will bring us together, and to Him is the [final] destination."
42:16
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
يُحَآجُّونَ argue yuḥājjūna
argue
فِى concerning
concerning
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
مِنۢ after min
after
بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after
مَا [what]
[what]
ٱسْتُجِيبَ response has been made to Him us'tujība
response has been made to Him
لَهُۥ response has been made to Him lahu
response has been made to Him
حُجَّتُهُمْ their argument ḥujjatuhum
their argument
دَاحِضَةٌ (is) invalid dāḥiḍatun
(is) invalid
عِندَ with ʿinda
with
رَبِّهِمْ their Lord rabbihim
their Lord
وَعَلَيْهِمْ and upon them waʿalayhim
and upon them
غَضَبٌۭ (is) wrath ghaḍabun
(is) wrath
وَلَهُمْ and for them walahum
and for them
عَذَابٌۭ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
شَدِيدٌ severe shadīdun
severe
١٦ (16)
(16)
And those who argue concerning Allāh after He has been responded to - their argument is invalid with their Lord, and upon them is [His] wrath, and for them is a severe punishment.
42:17
ٱللَّهُ Allah al-lahu
Allah
ٱلَّذِىٓ (is) the One Who alladhī
(is) the One Who
أَنزَلَ (has) sent down anzala
(has) sent down
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book l-kitāba
the Book
بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth bil-ḥaqi
in truth
وَٱلْمِيزَانَ ۗ and the Balance wal-mīzāna
and the Balance
وَمَا And what wamā
And what
يُدْرِيكَ will make you know yud'rīka
will make you know
لَعَلَّ Perhaps laʿalla
Perhaps
ٱلسَّاعَةَ the Hour l-sāʿata
the Hour
قَرِيبٌۭ (is) near qarībun
(is) near
١٧ (17)
(17)
It is Allāh who has sent down the Book in truth and [also] the balance [i.e., justice]. And what will make you perceive? Perhaps the Hour is near.
42:18
يَسْتَعْجِلُ Seek to hasten yastaʿjilu
Seek to hasten
بِهَا [of] it bihā
[of] it
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يُؤْمِنُونَ believe yu'minūna
believe
بِهَا ۖ in it bihā
in it
وَٱلَّذِينَ and those who wa-alladhīna
and those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
مُشْفِقُونَ (are) fearful mush'fiqūna
(are) fearful
مِنْهَا of it min'hā
of it
وَيَعْلَمُونَ and know wayaʿlamūna
and know
أَنَّهَا that it annahā
that it
ٱلْحَقُّ ۗ (is) the truth l-ḥaqu
(is) the truth
أَلَآ Unquestionably alā
Unquestionably
إِنَّ indeed inna
indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
يُمَارُونَ dispute yumārūna
dispute
فِى concerning
concerning
ٱلسَّاعَةِ the Hour l-sāʿati
the Hour
لَفِى (are) certainly in lafī
(are) certainly in
ضَلَـٰلٍۭ error ḍalālin
error
بَعِيدٍ far baʿīdin
far
١٨ (18)
(18)
Those who do not believe in it are impatient for it, but those who believe are fearful of it and know that it is the truth. Unquestionably, those who dispute concerning the Hour are in extreme error.
42:19
ٱللَّهُ Allah al-lahu
Allah
لَطِيفٌۢ (is) Subtle laṭīfun
(is) Subtle
بِعِبَادِهِۦ with His slaves biʿibādihi
with His slaves
يَرْزُقُ He gives provision yarzuqu
He gives provision
مَن (to) whom man
(to) whom
يَشَآءُ ۖ He wills yashāu
He wills
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
ٱلْقَوِىُّ (is) the All-Strong l-qawiyu
(is) the All-Strong
ٱلْعَزِيزُ the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzu
the All-Mighty
١٩ (19)
(19)
Allāh is Subtle with His servants; He gives provision to whom He wills. And He is the Powerful, the Exalted in Might.
42:20
مَن Whoever man
Whoever
كَانَ is kāna
is
يُرِيدُ desiring yurīdu
desiring
حَرْثَ (the) harvest ḥartha
(the) harvest
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ (of) the Hereafter l-ākhirati
(of) the Hereafter
نَزِدْ We increase nazid
We increase
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
فِى in
in
حَرْثِهِۦ ۖ his harvest ḥarthihi
his harvest
وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever
كَانَ is kāna
is
يُرِيدُ desiring yurīdu
desiring
حَرْثَ (the) harvest ḥartha
(the) harvest
ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
نُؤْتِهِۦ We give him nu'tihi
We give him
مِنْهَا of it min'hā
of it
وَمَا but not wamā
but not
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
فِى in
in
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ the Hereafter l-ākhirati
the Hereafter
مِن any min
any
نَّصِيبٍ share naṣībin
share
٢٠ (20)
(20)
Whoever desires the harvest of the Hereafter - We increase for him in his harvest [i.e., reward]. And whoever desires the harvest [i.e., benefits] of this world - We give him thereof, but there is not for him in the Hereafter any share.
42:21
أَمْ Or am
Or
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
شُرَكَـٰٓؤُا۟ (are) partners shurakāu
(are) partners
شَرَعُوا۟ who have ordained sharaʿū
who have ordained
لَهُم for them lahum
for them
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلدِّينِ the religion l-dīni
the religion
مَا what
what
لَمْ not lam
not
يَأْذَنۢ Allah has given permission of it yadhan
Allah has given permission of it
بِهِ Allah has given permission of it bihi
Allah has given permission of it
ٱللَّهُ ۚ Allah has given permission of it l-lahu
Allah has given permission of it
وَلَوْلَا And if not walawlā
And if not
كَلِمَةُ (for) a word kalimatu
(for) a word
ٱلْفَصْلِ decisive l-faṣli
decisive
لَقُضِىَ surely, it (would have) been judged laquḍiya
surely, it (would have) been judged
بَيْنَهُمْ ۗ between them baynahum
between them
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
عَذَابٌ (is a) punishment ʿadhābun
(is a) punishment
أَلِيمٌۭ painful alīmun
painful
٢١ (21)
(21)
Or have they partners [i.e., other deities] who have ordained for them a religion to which Allāh has not consented? But if not for the decisive word, it would have been concluded between them. And indeed, the wrongdoers will have a painful punishment.
42:22
تَرَى You will see tarā
You will see
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
مُشْفِقِينَ fearful mush'fiqīna
fearful
مِمَّا of what mimmā
of what
كَسَبُوا۟ they earned kasabū
they earned
وَهُوَ and it wahuwa
and it
وَاقِعٌۢ (will) befall wāqiʿun
(will) befall
بِهِمْ ۗ [on] them bihim
[on] them
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
فِى (will be) in
(will be) in
رَوْضَاتِ flowering meadows rawḍāti
flowering meadows
ٱلْجَنَّاتِ ۖ (of) the Gardens l-janāti
(of) the Gardens
لَهُم for them lahum
for them
مَّا (is) whatever
(is) whatever
يَشَآءُونَ they wish yashāūna
they wish
عِندَ with ʿinda
with
رَبِّهِمْ ۚ their Lord rabbihim
their Lord
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
هُوَ it huwa
it
ٱلْفَضْلُ (is) the Bounty l-faḍlu
(is) the Bounty
ٱلْكَبِيرُ the Great l-kabīru
the Great
٢٢ (22)
(22)
You will see the wrongdoers fearful of what they have earned, and it will [certainly] befall them. And those who have believed and done righteous deeds will be in lush regions of the gardens [in Paradise] having whatever they will in the presence of their Lord. That is what is the great bounty.
42:23
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
ٱلَّذِى (is of) which alladhī
(is of) which
يُبَشِّرُ Allah gives glad tidings yubashiru
Allah gives glad tidings
ٱللَّهُ Allah gives glad tidings l-lahu
Allah gives glad tidings
عِبَادَهُ (to) His slaves ʿibādahu
(to) His slaves
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ ۗ righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
قُل Say qul
Say
لَّآ Not
Not
أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ I ask you asalukum
I ask you
عَلَيْهِ for it ʿalayhi
for it
أَجْرًا any payment ajran
any payment
إِلَّا except illā
except
ٱلْمَوَدَّةَ the love l-mawadata
the love
فِى among
among
ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ ۗ the relatives l-qur'bā
the relatives
وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever
يَقْتَرِفْ earns yaqtarif
earns
حَسَنَةًۭ any good ḥasanatan
any good
نَّزِدْ We increase nazid
We increase
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
فِيهَا therein fīhā
therein
حُسْنًا ۚ good ḥus'nan
good
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
غَفُورٌۭ (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun
(is) Oft-Forgiving
شَكُورٌ All-Appreciative shakūrun
All-Appreciative
٢٣ (23)
(23)
It is that of which Allāh gives good tidings to His servants who believe and do righteous deeds. Say, [O Muḥammad], "I do not ask you for it [i.e., this message] any payment [but] only good will through [i.e., due to] kinship." And whoever commits a good deed - We will increase for him good therein. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Appreciative.
42:24
أَمْ Or am
Or
يَقُولُونَ (do) they say yaqūlūna
(do) they say
ٱفْتَرَىٰ He has invented if'tarā
He has invented
عَلَى about ʿalā
about
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
كَذِبًۭا ۖ a lie kadhiban
a lie
فَإِن But if fa-in
But if
يَشَإِ Allah willed yasha-i
Allah willed
ٱللَّهُ Allah willed l-lahu
Allah willed
يَخْتِمْ He would seal yakhtim
He would seal
عَلَىٰ [over] ʿalā
[over]
قَلْبِكَ ۗ your heart qalbika
your heart
وَيَمْحُ And Allah eliminates wayamḥu
And Allah eliminates
ٱللَّهُ And Allah eliminates l-lahu
And Allah eliminates
ٱلْبَـٰطِلَ the falsehood l-bāṭila
the falsehood
وَيُحِقُّ and establishes wayuḥiqqu
and establishes
ٱلْحَقَّ the truth l-ḥaqa
the truth
بِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦٓ ۚ by His Words bikalimātihi
by His Words
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He innahu
Indeed, He
عَلِيمٌۢ (is) All-Knowing ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knowing
بِذَاتِ of what bidhāti
of what
ٱلصُّدُورِ (is in) the breasts l-ṣudūri
(is in) the breasts
٢٤ (24)
(24)
Or do they say, "He has invented about Allāh a lie"? But if Allāh willed, He could seal over your heart. And Allāh eliminates falsehood and establishes the truth by His words. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.
42:25
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who alladhī
(is) the One Who
يَقْبَلُ accepts yaqbalu
accepts
ٱلتَّوْبَةَ the repentance l-tawbata
the repentance
عَنْ of ʿan
of
عِبَادِهِۦ His slaves ʿibādihi
His slaves
وَيَعْفُوا۟ and pardons wayaʿfū
and pardons
عَنِ [of] ʿani
[of]
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ the evil l-sayiāti
the evil
وَيَعْلَمُ and He knows wayaʿlamu
and He knows
مَا what
what
تَفْعَلُونَ you do tafʿalūna
you do
٢٥ (25)
(25)
And it is He who accepts repentance from His servants and pardons misdeeds, and He knows what you do.
42:26
وَيَسْتَجِيبُ And He answers wayastajību
And He answers
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
وَيَزِيدُهُم and increases (for) them wayazīduhum
and increases (for) them
مِّن from min
from
فَضْلِهِۦ ۚ His Bounty faḍlihi
His Bounty
وَٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ And the disbelievers wal-kāfirūna
And the disbelievers
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
عَذَابٌۭ (will be) a punishment ʿadhābun
(will be) a punishment
شَدِيدٌۭ severe shadīdun
severe
٢٦ (26)
(26)
And He answers [the supplication of] those who have believed and done righteous deeds and increases [for] them from His bounty. But the disbelievers will have a severe punishment.
42:27
۞ وَلَوْ And if walaw
And if
بَسَطَ Allah extends basaṭa
Allah extends
ٱللَّهُ Allah extends l-lahu
Allah extends
ٱلرِّزْقَ the provision l-riz'qa
the provision
لِعِبَادِهِۦ for His slaves liʿibādihi
for His slaves
لَبَغَوْا۟ surely they would rebel labaghaw
surely they would rebel
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
وَلَـٰكِن but walākin
but
يُنَزِّلُ He sends down yunazzilu
He sends down
بِقَدَرٍۢ in (due) measure biqadarin
in (due) measure
مَّا what
what
يَشَآءُ ۚ He wills yashāu
He wills
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He innahu
Indeed, He
بِعِبَادِهِۦ of His slaves biʿibādihi
of His slaves
خَبِيرٌۢ (is) All-Aware khabīrun
(is) All-Aware
بَصِيرٌۭ All-Seer baṣīrun
All-Seer
٢٧ (27)
(27)
And if Allāh had extended [excessively] provision for His servants, they would have committed tyranny throughout the earth. But He sends [it] down in an amount which He wills. Indeed He is, of His servants, Aware and Seeing.
42:28
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who alladhī
(is) the One Who
يُنَزِّلُ sends down yunazzilu
sends down
ٱلْغَيْثَ the rain l-ghaytha
the rain
مِنۢ after min
after
بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after
مَا [what]
[what]
قَنَطُوا۟ they have despaired qanaṭū
they have despaired
وَيَنشُرُ and spreads wayanshuru
and spreads
رَحْمَتَهُۥ ۚ His mercy raḥmatahu
His mercy
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
ٱلْوَلِىُّ (is) the Protector l-waliyu
(is) the Protector
ٱلْحَمِيدُ the Praiseworthy l-ḥamīdu
the Praiseworthy
٢٨ (28)
(28)
And it is He who sends down the rain after they had despaired and spreads His mercy. And He is the Protector, the Praiseworthy.
42:29
وَمِنْ And among wamin
And among
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ His Signs āyātihi
His Signs
خَلْقُ (is the) creation khalqu
(is the) creation
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
وَمَا and whatever wamā
and whatever
بَثَّ He has dispersed batha
He has dispersed
فِيهِمَا in both of them fīhimā
in both of them
مِن of min
of
دَآبَّةٍۢ ۚ (the) creatures dābbatin
(the) creatures
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
عَلَىٰ (is) over ʿalā
(is) over
جَمْعِهِمْ their gathering jamʿihim
their gathering
إِذَا when idhā
when
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
قَدِيرٌۭ All-Powerful qadīrun
All-Powerful
٢٩ (29)
(29)
And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and earth and what He has dispersed throughout them of creatures. And He, for gathering them when He wills, is competent.
42:30
وَمَآ And whatever wamā
And whatever
أَصَـٰبَكُم befalls you aṣābakum
befalls you
مِّن of min
of
مُّصِيبَةٍۢ (the) misfortune muṣībatin
(the) misfortune
فَبِمَا (is because) of what fabimā
(is because) of what
كَسَبَتْ have earned kasabat
have earned
أَيْدِيكُمْ your hands aydīkum
your hands
وَيَعْفُوا۟ But He pardons wayaʿfū
But He pardons
عَن [from] ʿan
[from]
كَثِيرٍۢ much kathīrin
much
٣٠ (30)
(30)
And whatever strikes you of disaster - it is for what your hands have earned; but He pardons much.
42:31
وَمَآ And not wamā
And not
أَنتُم you antum
you
بِمُعْجِزِينَ (can) escape bimuʿ'jizīna
(can) escape
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
لَكُم for you lakum
for you
مِّن besides min
besides
دُونِ besides dūni
besides
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
مِن any min
any
وَلِىٍّۢ protector waliyyin
protector
وَلَا and not walā
and not
نَصِيرٍۢ any helper naṣīrin
any helper
٣١ (31)
(31)
And you will not cause failure [to Allāh]1 upon the earth. And you have not besides Allāh any protector or helper.
42:32
وَمِنْ And among wamin
And among
ءَايَـٰتِهِ His Signs āyātihi
His Signs
ٱلْجَوَارِ (are) the ships l-jawāri
(are) the ships
فِى in
in
ٱلْبَحْرِ the sea l-baḥri
the sea
كَٱلْأَعْلَـٰمِ like [the] mountains kal-aʿlāmi
like [the] mountains
٣٢ (32)
(32)
And of His signs are the ships in the sea, like mountains.
42:33
إِن If in
If
يَشَأْ He wills yasha
He wills
يُسْكِنِ He can cause the wind to become still yus'kini
He can cause the wind to become still
ٱلرِّيحَ He can cause the wind to become still l-rīḥa
He can cause the wind to become still
فَيَظْلَلْنَ then they would remain fayaẓlalna
then they would remain
رَوَاكِدَ motionless rawākida
motionless
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
ظَهْرِهِۦٓ ۚ its back ẓahrihi
its back
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
فِى in
in
ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) Signs laāyātin
surely (are) Signs
لِّكُلِّ for everyone likulli
for everyone
صَبَّارٍۢ patient ṣabbārin
patient
شَكُورٍ (and) grateful shakūrin
(and) grateful
٣٣ (33)
(33)
If He willed, He could still the wind, and they would remain motionless on its surface. Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.
42:34
أَوْ Or aw
Or
يُوبِقْهُنَّ He could destroy them yūbiq'hunna
He could destroy them
بِمَا for what bimā
for what
كَسَبُوا۟ they have earned kasabū
they have earned
وَيَعْفُ but He pardons wayaʿfu
but He pardons
عَن [from] ʿan
[from]
كَثِيرٍۢ much kathīrin
much
٣٤ (34)
(34)
Or He could destroy them for what they earned; but He pardons much.
42:35
وَيَعْلَمَ And may know wayaʿlama
And may know
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
يُجَـٰدِلُونَ dispute yujādilūna
dispute
فِىٓ concerning
concerning
ءَايَـٰتِنَا Our Signs āyātinā
Our Signs
مَا (that) not
(that) not
لَهُم for them lahum
for them
مِّن any min
any
مَّحِيصٍۢ place of refuge maḥīṣin
place of refuge
٣٥ (35)
(35)
And [that is so] those who dispute concerning Our signs may know that for them there is no place of escape.
42:36
فَمَآ So whatever famā
So whatever
أُوتِيتُم you are given ūtītum
you are given
مِّن of min
of
شَىْءٍۢ a thing shayin
a thing
فَمَتَـٰعُ (is) but a passing enjoyment famatāʿu
(is) but a passing enjoyment
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ (for) the life l-ḥayati
(for) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
وَمَا But what wamā
But what
عِندَ (is) with ʿinda
(is) with
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
خَيْرٌۭ (is) better khayrun
(is) better
وَأَبْقَىٰ and more lasting wa-abqā
and more lasting
لِلَّذِينَ for those who lilladhīna
for those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
وَعَلَىٰ and upon waʿalā
and upon
رَبِّهِمْ their Lord rabbihim
their Lord
يَتَوَكَّلُونَ put (their) trust yatawakkalūna
put (their) trust
٣٦ (36)
(36)
So whatever thing you have been given - it is but [for] enjoyment of the worldly life. But what is with Allāh is better and more lasting for those who have believed and upon their Lord rely
42:37
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
يَجْتَنِبُونَ avoid yajtanibūna
avoid
كَبَـٰٓئِرَ (the) greater kabāira
(the) greater
ٱلْإِثْمِ sins l-ith'mi
sins
وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ and the immoralities wal-fawāḥisha
and the immoralities
وَإِذَا and when wa-idhā
and when
مَا and when
and when
غَضِبُوا۟ they are angry ghaḍibū
they are angry
هُمْ they hum
they
يَغْفِرُونَ forgive yaghfirūna
forgive
٣٧ (37)
(37)
And those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, and when they are angry, they forgive,
42:38
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟ respond is'tajābū
respond
لِرَبِّهِمْ to their Lord lirabbihim
to their Lord
وَأَقَامُوا۟ and establish wa-aqāmū
and establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ prayer l-ṣalata
prayer
وَأَمْرُهُمْ and their affairs wa-amruhum
and their affairs
شُورَىٰ (are conducted by) consultation shūrā
(are conducted by) consultation
بَيْنَهُمْ among them baynahum
among them
وَمِمَّا and from what wamimmā
and from what
رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ We have provided them razaqnāhum
We have provided them
يُنفِقُونَ they spend yunfiqūna
they spend
٣٨ (38)
(38)
And those who have responded to their Lord and established prayer and whose affair is [determined by] consultation among themselves, and from what We have provided them, they spend,
42:39
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
إِذَآ when idhā
when
أَصَابَهُمُ strikes them aṣābahumu
strikes them
ٱلْبَغْىُ tyranny l-baghyu
tyranny
هُمْ they hum
they
يَنتَصِرُونَ defend themselves yantaṣirūna
defend themselves
٣٩ (39)
(39)
And those who, when tyranny strikes them, they retaliate [in a just manner].
42:40
وَجَزَٰٓؤُا۟ (The) recompense wajazāu
(The) recompense
سَيِّئَةٍۢ (of) an evil sayyi-atin
(of) an evil
سَيِّئَةٌۭ (is) an evil sayyi-atun
(is) an evil
مِّثْلُهَا ۖ like it mith'luhā
like it
فَمَنْ But whoever faman
But whoever
عَفَا pardons ʿafā
pardons
وَأَصْلَحَ and makes reconciliation wa-aṣlaḥa
and makes reconciliation
فَأَجْرُهُۥ then his reward fa-ajruhu
then his reward
عَلَى (is) on ʿalā
(is) on
ٱللَّهِ ۚ Allah l-lahi
Allah
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He innahu
Indeed, He
لَا (does) not
(does) not
يُحِبُّ like yuḥibbu
like
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
٤٠ (40)
(40)
And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allāh. Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers.
42:41
وَلَمَنِ And surely whosoever walamani
And surely whosoever
ٱنتَصَرَ defends himself intaṣara
defends himself
بَعْدَ after baʿda
after
ظُلْمِهِۦ he has been wronged ẓul'mihi
he has been wronged
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those fa-ulāika
then those
مَا not
not
عَلَيْهِم (is) against them ʿalayhim
(is) against them
مِّن any min
any
سَبِيلٍ way sabīlin
way
٤١ (41)
(41)
And whoever retaliates after having been wronged - those have not upon them any cause [for blame].
42:42
إِنَّمَا Only innamā
Only
ٱلسَّبِيلُ the way l-sabīlu
the way
عَلَى against ʿalā
against
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
يَظْلِمُونَ oppress yaẓlimūna
oppress
ٱلنَّاسَ the people l-nāsa
the people
وَيَبْغُونَ and rebel wayabghūna
and rebel
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
بِغَيْرِ without bighayri
without
ٱلْحَقِّ ۚ right l-ḥaqi
right
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
أَلِيمٌۭ painful alīmun
painful
٤٢ (42)
(42)
The cause is only against the ones who wrong the people and tyrannize upon the earth without right. Those will have a painful punishment.
42:43
وَلَمَن And whoever walaman
And whoever
صَبَرَ (is) patient ṣabara
(is) patient
وَغَفَرَ and forgives waghafara
and forgives
إِنَّ indeed inna
indeed
ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that
لَمِنْ (is) surely of lamin
(is) surely of
عَزْمِ matters of determination ʿazmi
matters of determination
ٱلْأُمُورِ matters of determination l-umūri
matters of determination
٤٣ (43)
(43)
And whoever is patient and forgives - indeed, that is of the matters [worthy] of resolve.
42:44
وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever
يُضْلِلِ Allah lets go astray yuḍ'lili
Allah lets go astray
ٱللَّهُ Allah lets go astray l-lahu
Allah lets go astray
فَمَا then not famā
then not
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
مِن any min
any
وَلِىٍّۢ protector waliyyin
protector
مِّنۢ after Him min
after Him
بَعْدِهِۦ ۗ after Him baʿdihi
after Him
وَتَرَى And you will see watarā
And you will see
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
لَمَّا when lammā
when
رَأَوُا۟ they see ra-awū
they see
ٱلْعَذَابَ the punishment l-ʿadhāba
the punishment
يَقُولُونَ saying yaqūlūna
saying
هَلْ Is hal
Is
إِلَىٰ (there) for ilā
(there) for
مَرَدٍّۢ return maraddin
return
مِّن any min
any
سَبِيلٍۢ way sabīlin
way
٤٤ (44)
(44)
And he whom Allāh sends astray - for him there is no protector beyond Him. And you will see the wrongdoers, when they see the punishment, saying, "Is there for return [to the former world] any way?"
42:45
وَتَرَىٰهُمْ And you will see them watarāhum
And you will see them
يُعْرَضُونَ being exposed yuʿ'raḍūna
being exposed
عَلَيْهَا to it ʿalayhā
to it
خَـٰشِعِينَ humbled khāshiʿīna
humbled
مِنَ by mina
by
ٱلذُّلِّ disgrace l-dhuli
disgrace
يَنظُرُونَ looking yanẓurūna
looking
مِن with min
with
طَرْفٍ a glance ṭarfin
a glance
خَفِىٍّۢ ۗ stealthy khafiyyin
stealthy
وَقَالَ And will say waqāla
And will say
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوٓا۟ believed āmanū
believed
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ the losers l-khāsirīna
the losers
ٱلَّذِينَ (are) those who alladhīna
(are) those who
خَسِرُوٓا۟ lost khasirū
lost
أَنفُسَهُمْ themselves anfusahum
themselves
وَأَهْلِيهِمْ and their families wa-ahlīhim
and their families
يَوْمَ (on the) Day yawma
(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۗ (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
أَلَآ Unquestionably alā
Unquestionably
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
فِى (are) in
(are) in
عَذَابٍۢ a punishment ʿadhābin
a punishment
مُّقِيمٍۢ lasting muqīmin
lasting
٤٥ (45)
(45)
And you will see them being exposed to it [i.e., the Fire], humbled from humiliation, looking from [behind] a covert glance. And those who had believed will say, "Indeed, the [true] losers are the ones who lost themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection. Unquestionably, the wrongdoers are in an enduring punishment."
42:46
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
كَانَ will be kāna
will be
لَهُم for them lahum
for them
مِّنْ any min
any
أَوْلِيَآءَ protector awliyāa
protector
يَنصُرُونَهُم (who) will help them yanṣurūnahum
(who) will help them
مِّن besides min
besides
دُونِ besides dūni
besides
ٱللَّهِ ۗ Allah l-lahi
Allah
وَمَن And whom waman
And whom
يُضْلِلِ Allah lets go astray yuḍ'lili
Allah lets go astray
ٱللَّهُ Allah lets go astray l-lahu
Allah lets go astray
فَمَا then not famā
then not
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
مِن any min
any
سَبِيلٍ way sabīlin
way
٤٦ (46)
(46)
And there will not be for them any allies to aid them other than Allāh. And whoever Allāh sends astray - for him there is no way.
42:47
ٱسْتَجِيبُوا۟ Respond is'tajībū
Respond
لِرَبِّكُم to your Lord lirabbikum
to your Lord
مِّن before min
before
قَبْلِ before qabli
before
أَن [that] an
[that]
يَأْتِىَ comes yatiya
comes
يَوْمٌۭ a Day yawmun
a Day
لَّا (there is) no
(there is) no
مَرَدَّ averting maradda
averting
لَهُۥ for it lahu
for it
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱللَّهِ ۚ Allah l-lahi
Allah
مَا Not
Not
لَكُم (is) for you lakum
(is) for you
مِّن any min
any
مَّلْجَإٍۢ refuge malja-in
refuge
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ (on) that Day yawma-idhin
(on) that Day
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
لَكُم for you lakum
for you
مِّن any min
any
نَّكِيرٍۢ denial nakīrin
denial
٤٧ (47)
(47)
Respond to your Lord before a Day comes from Allāh of which there is no repelling. No refuge will you have that Day, nor for you will there be any denial.
42:48
فَإِنْ Then if fa-in
Then if
أَعْرَضُوا۟ they turn away aʿraḍū
they turn away
فَمَآ then not famā
then not
أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ We have sent you arsalnāka
We have sent you
عَلَيْهِمْ over them ʿalayhim
over them
حَفِيظًا ۖ (as) a guardian ḥafīẓan
(as) a guardian
إِنْ Not in
Not
عَلَيْكَ (is) on you ʿalayka
(is) on you
إِلَّا except illā
except
ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ۗ the conveyance l-balāghu
the conveyance
وَإِنَّآ And indeed wa-innā
And indeed
إِذَآ when idhā
when
أَذَقْنَا We cause to taste adhaqnā
We cause to taste
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ [the] man l-insāna
[the] man
مِنَّا from Us minnā
from Us
رَحْمَةًۭ Mercy raḥmatan
Mercy
فَرِحَ he rejoices fariḥa
he rejoices
بِهَا ۖ in it bihā
in it
وَإِن But if wa-in
But if
تُصِبْهُمْ befalls them tuṣib'hum
befalls them
سَيِّئَةٌۢ evil sayyi-atun
evil
بِمَا for what bimā
for what
قَدَّمَتْ have sent forth qaddamat
have sent forth
أَيْدِيهِمْ their hands aydīhim
their hands
فَإِنَّ then indeed fa-inna
then indeed
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ [the] man l-insāna
[the] man
كَفُورٌۭ (is) ungrateful kafūrun
(is) ungrateful
٤٨ (48)
(48)
But if they turn away - then We have not sent you, [O Muḥammad], over them as a guardian; upon you is only [the duty of] notification. And indeed, when We let man taste mercy from Us, he rejoices in it; but if evil afflicts him for what his hands have put forth, then indeed, man is ungrateful.
42:49
لِّلَّهِ To Allah lillahi
To Allah
مُلْكُ (belongs the) dominion mul'ku
(belongs the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
يَخْلُقُ He creates yakhluqu
He creates
مَا what
what
يَشَآءُ ۚ He wills yashāu
He wills
يَهَبُ He grants yahabu
He grants
لِمَن to whom liman
to whom
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
إِنَـٰثًۭا females ināthan
females
وَيَهَبُ and He grants wayahabu
and He grants
لِمَن to whom liman
to whom
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
ٱلذُّكُورَ [the] males l-dhukūra
[the] males
٤٩ (49)
(49)
To Allāh belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; He creates what He wills. He gives to whom He wills female [children], and He gives to whom He wills males.
42:50
أَوْ Or aw
Or
يُزَوِّجُهُمْ He grants them yuzawwijuhum
He grants them
ذُكْرَانًۭا males dhuk'rānan
males
وَإِنَـٰثًۭا ۖ and females wa-ināthan
and females
وَيَجْعَلُ and He makes wayajʿalu
and He makes
مَن whom man
whom
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
عَقِيمًا ۚ barren ʿaqīman
barren
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He innahu
Indeed, He
عَلِيمٌۭ (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knower
قَدِيرٌۭ All-Powerful qadīrun
All-Powerful
٥٠ (50)
(50)
Or He makes them [both] males and females, and He renders whom He wills barren. Indeed, He is Knowing and Competent.
42:51
۞ وَمَا And not wamā
And not
كَانَ is kāna
is
لِبَشَرٍ for any human libasharin
for any human
أَن that an
that
يُكَلِّمَهُ Allah should speak to him yukallimahu
Allah should speak to him
ٱللَّهُ Allah should speak to him l-lahu
Allah should speak to him
إِلَّا except illā
except
وَحْيًا (by) revelation waḥyan
(by) revelation
أَوْ or aw
or
مِن from min
from
وَرَآئِ behind warāi
behind
حِجَابٍ a veil ḥijābin
a veil
أَوْ or aw
or
يُرْسِلَ (by) sending yur'sila
(by) sending
رَسُولًۭا a messenger rasūlan
a messenger
فَيُوحِىَ then he reveals fayūḥiya
then he reveals
بِإِذْنِهِۦ by His permission bi-idh'nihi
by His permission
مَا what
what
يَشَآءُ ۚ He wills yashāu
He wills
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He innahu
Indeed, He
عَلِىٌّ (is) Most High ʿaliyyun
(is) Most High
حَكِيمٌۭ Most Wise ḥakīmun
Most Wise
٥١ (51)
(51)
And it is not for any human being that Allāh should speak to him except by revelation or from behind a partition or that He sends a messenger [i.e., angel] to reveal, by His permission, what He wills. Indeed, He is Most High and Wise.
42:52
وَكَذَٰلِكَ And thus wakadhālika
And thus
أَوْحَيْنَآ We have revealed awḥaynā
We have revealed
إِلَيْكَ to you ilayka
to you
رُوحًۭا an inspiration rūḥan
an inspiration
مِّنْ by min
by
أَمْرِنَا ۚ Our Command amrinā
Our Command
مَا Not
Not
كُنتَ (did) you kunta
(did) you
تَدْرِى know tadrī
know
مَا what
what
ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ the Book (is) l-kitābu
the Book (is)
وَلَا and not walā
and not
ٱلْإِيمَـٰنُ the faith l-īmānu
the faith
وَلَـٰكِن But walākin
But
جَعَلْنَـٰهُ We have made it jaʿalnāhu
We have made it
نُورًۭا a light nūran
a light
نَّهْدِى We guide nahdī
We guide
بِهِۦ with it bihi
with it
مَن whom man
whom
نَّشَآءُ We will nashāu
We will
مِنْ of min
of
عِبَادِنَا ۚ Our slaves ʿibādinā
Our slaves
وَإِنَّكَ And indeed, you wa-innaka
And indeed, you
لَتَهْدِىٓ surely guide latahdī
surely guide
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
صِرَٰطٍۢ (the) Path ṣirāṭin
(the) Path
مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ Straight mus'taqīmin
Straight
٥٢ (52)
(52)
And thus We have revealed to you an inspiration of Our command [i.e., the Qur’ān]. You did not know what is the Book or [what is] faith, but We have made it a light by which We guide whom We will of Our servants. And indeed, [O Muḥammad], you guide to a straight path -
42:53
صِرَٰطِ (The) path ṣirāṭi
(The) path
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلَّذِى the One alladhī
the One
لَهُۥ to Whom lahu
to Whom
مَا (belongs) whatever
(belongs) whatever
فِى (is) in
(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَمَا and whatever wamā
and whatever
فِى (is) in
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
أَلَآ Unquestionably alā
Unquestionably
إِلَى To ilā
To
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
تَصِيرُ reach taṣīru
reach
ٱلْأُمُورُ all affairs l-umūru
all affairs
٥٣ (53)
(53)
The path of Allāh, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Unquestionably, to Allāh do [all] matters evolve [i.e., return].
