بسملة

بِسْمِIn (the) nameٱللَّهِ(of) Allahٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِthe Most Graciousٱلرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

١٥:١

الٓر ۚAlif Laam RaتِلْكَTheseءَايَـٰتُ(are) the Versesٱلْكِتَـٰبِ(of) the Bookوَقُرْءَانٍۢand Quranمُّبِينٍۢclear١

Alif, Lām, Rā. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur’ān [i.e., recitation].

١٥:٢

رُّبَمَاPerhapsيَوَدُّwill wishٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelievedلَوْifكَانُوا۟they had beenمُسْلِمِينَMuslims٢

Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims.

١٥:٣

ذَرْهُمْLeave themيَأْكُلُوا۟(to) eatوَيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟and enjoyوَيُلْهِهِمُand diverted themٱلْأَمَلُ ۖthe hopeفَسَوْفَthen soonيَعْلَمُونَthey will come to know٣

Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know.

١٥:٤

وَمَآAnd notأَهْلَكْنَاWe destroyedمِنanyقَرْيَةٍtownإِلَّاbutوَلَهَا(there was) for itكِتَابٌۭa decreeمَّعْلُومٌۭknown٤

And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree.

١٥:٥

مَّاNotتَسْبِقُ(can) advanceمِنْanyأُمَّةٍnationأَجَلَهَاits termوَمَاand notيَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ(can) delay it٥

No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter.

١٥:٦

وَقَالُوا۟And they sayيَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِى(to) whomنُزِّلَhas been sent downعَلَيْهِ[on him]ٱلذِّكْرُthe Reminderإِنَّكَindeed, youلَمَجْنُونٌۭ(are) surely mad٦

And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad.

١٥:٧

لَّوْWhyمَاnotتَأْتِينَاyou bring to usبِٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِthe Angelsإِنifكُنتَyou areمِنَofٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَthe truthful٧

Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?"

١٥:٨

مَاNotنُنَزِّلُWe send downٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَthe Angelsإِلَّاexceptبِٱلْحَقِّwith the truthوَمَاand notكَانُوٓا۟they would beإِذًۭاthenمُّنظَرِينَgiven respite٨

We do not send down the angels except with truth; and they [i.e., the disbelievers] would not then be reprieved.

١٥:٩

إِنَّاIndeed, WeنَحْنُWeنَزَّلْنَاhave sent downٱلذِّكْرَthe Reminderوَإِنَّاand indeed, Weلَهُۥof itلَحَـٰفِظُونَ(are) surely Guardians٩

Indeed, it is We who sent down the message [i.e., the Qur’ān], and indeed, We will be its guardian.

١٥:١٠

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyأَرْسَلْنَاWe (had) sentمِنbefore youقَبْلِكَbefore youفِىinشِيَعِthe sectsٱلْأَوَّلِينَ(of) the former (people)١٠

And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muḥammad], among the sects of the former peoples.

١٥:١١

وَمَاAnd notيَأْتِيهِمcame to themمِّنanyرَّسُولٍMessengerإِلَّاbutكَانُوا۟they didبِهِۦat himيَسْتَهْزِءُونَmock١١

And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him.

١٥:١٢

كَذَٰلِكَThusنَسْلُكُهُۥWe let it enterفِىinقُلُوبِ(the) heartsٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ(of) the criminals١٢

Thus do We insert it [i.e., denial] into the hearts of the criminals.

١٥:١٣

لَاNotيُؤْمِنُونَthey believeبِهِۦ ۖin itوَقَدْand verilyخَلَتْhave passedسُنَّةُthe way(s)ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ(of) the former (people)١٣

They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples.

١٥:١٤

وَلَوْAnd (even) ifفَتَحْنَاWe openedعَلَيْهِمto themبَابًۭاa gateمِّنَfromٱلسَّمَآءِthe heavenفَظَلُّوا۟and they were to continueفِيهِthereinيَعْرُجُونَ(to) ascend١٤

And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend,

١٥:١٥

لَقَالُوٓا۟They would surely sayإِنَّمَاOnlyسُكِّرَتْhave been dazzledأَبْصَـٰرُنَاour eyesبَلْNayنَحْنُweقَوْمٌۭ(are) a peopleمَّسْحُورُونَbewitched١٥

They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic."

١٥:١٦

وَلَقَدْAnd verilyجَعَلْنَاWe have placedفِىinٱلسَّمَآءِthe heavensبُرُوجًۭاconstellationsوَزَيَّنَّـٰهَاand We have beautified itلِلنَّـٰظِرِينَfor the observers١٦

And We have placed within the heaven great stars and have beautified it for the observers.

١٥:١٧

وَحَفِظْنَـٰهَاAnd We have protected itمِنfromكُلِّeveryشَيْطَـٰنٍۢdevilرَّجِيمٍaccursed١٧

And We have protected it from every devil expelled [from the mercy of Allāh]

١٥:١٨

إِلَّاExceptمَنِ(one) whoٱسْتَرَقَstealsٱلسَّمْعَthe hearingفَأَتْبَعَهُۥthen follows himشِهَابٌۭa burning flameمُّبِينٌۭclear١٨

Except one who steals a hearing and is pursued by a clear burning flame.

١٥:١٩

وَٱلْأَرْضَAnd the earthمَدَدْنَـٰهَاWe have spread itوَأَلْقَيْنَاand [We] castفِيهَاthereinرَوَٰسِىَfirm mountainsوَأَنۢبَتْنَاand [We] caused to growفِيهَاthereinمِنofكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍۢthingمَّوْزُونٍۢwell-balanced١٩

And the earth - We have spread it and cast therein firmly set mountains and caused to grow therein [something] of every well-balanced thing.

١٥:٢٠

وَجَعَلْنَاAnd We have madeلَكُمْfor youفِيهَاthereinمَعَـٰيِشَmeans of livingوَمَنand whomلَّسْتُمْyou are notلَهُۥfor himبِرَٰزِقِينَproviders٢٠

And We have made for you therein means of living and [for] those for whom you are not providers.

١٥:٢١

وَإِنAnd notمِّن(is) anyشَىْءٍthingإِلَّاbutعِندَنَاwith Usخَزَآئِنُهُۥ(are) its treasuresوَمَاand notنُنَزِّلُهُۥٓWe send it downإِلَّاexceptبِقَدَرٍۢin a measureمَّعْلُومٍۢknown٢١

And there is not a thing but that with Us are its depositories, and We do not send it down except according to a known [i.e., specified] measure.

١٥:٢٢

وَأَرْسَلْنَاAnd We have sentٱلرِّيَـٰحَthe windsلَوَٰقِحَfertilizingفَأَنزَلْنَاand We sent downمِنَfromٱلسَّمَآءِthe skyمَآءًۭwaterفَأَسْقَيْنَـٰكُمُوهُand We gave it to you to drinkوَمَآAnd notأَنتُمْyouلَهُۥof itبِخَـٰزِنِينَ(are) retainers٢٢

And We have sent the fertilizing winds and sent down water from the sky and given you drink from it. And you are not its retainers.

١٥:٢٣

وَإِنَّاAnd indeed, Weلَنَحْنُsurely [We]نُحْىِۦWe give lifeوَنُمِيتُand We cause deathوَنَحْنُand Weٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ(are) the Inheritors٢٣

And indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritor.

١٥:٢٤

وَلَقَدْAnd verilyعَلِمْنَاWe knowٱلْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَthe preceding onesمِنكُمْamong youوَلَقَدْand verilyعَلِمْنَاWe knowٱلْمُسْتَـْٔخِرِينَthe later ones٢٤

And We have already known the preceding [generations] among you, and We have already known the later [ones to come].

١٥:٢٥

وَإِنَّAnd indeedرَبَّكَyour LordهُوَHeيَحْشُرُهُمْ ۚwill gather themإِنَّهُۥIndeed, Heحَكِيمٌ(is) All-WiseعَلِيمٌۭAll-Knowing٢٥

And indeed, your Lord will gather them; indeed, He is Wise and Knowing.

١٥:٢٦

وَلَقَدْAnd verilyخَلَقْنَاWe createdٱلْإِنسَـٰنَhumankindمِن(out) ofصَلْصَـٰلٍۢsounding clayمِّنْfromحَمَإٍۢblack mudمَّسْنُونٍۢaltered٢٦

And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud.

١٥:٢٧

وَٱلْجَآنَّAnd the jinnخَلَقْنَـٰهُWe created itمِنbeforeقَبْلُbeforeمِنfromنَّارِfireٱلسَّمُومِscorching٢٧

And the jinn We created before from scorching fire.

١٥:٢٨

وَإِذْAnd whenقَالَyour Lord saidرَبُّكَyour Lord saidلِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِto the AngelsإِنِّىIndeed, Iخَـٰلِقٌۢ(will) createبَشَرًۭاa human beingمِّن(out) ofصَلْصَـٰلٍۢclayمِّنْfromحَمَإٍۢblack mudمَّسْنُونٍۢaltered٢٨

And [mention, O Muḥammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud.

١٥:٢٩

فَإِذَاSo, whenسَوَّيْتُهُۥI have fashioned himوَنَفَخْتُand [I] breathedفِيهِinto himمِنofرُّوحِىMy spiritفَقَعُوا۟then fall downلَهُۥto himسَـٰجِدِينَprostrating٢٩

And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration."

١٥:٣٠

فَسَجَدَSo prostratedٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُthe Angelsكُلُّهُمْall of themأَجْمَعُونَtogether٣٠

So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely,

١٥:٣١

إِلَّآExceptإِبْلِيسَIblisأَبَىٰٓHe refusedأَنtoيَكُونَbeمَعَwithٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَthose who prostrated٣١

Except Iblees; he refused to be with those who prostrated.

١٥:٣٢

قَالَHe saidيَـٰٓإِبْلِيسُO IblisمَاWhatلَكَ(is) for youأَلَّاthat notتَكُونَyou areمَعَwithٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَthose who prostrated٣٢

[Allāh] said, "O Iblees, what is [the matter] with you that you are not with those who prostrate?"

١٥:٣٣

قَالَHe saidلَمْI am notأَكُنI am notلِّأَسْجُدَ(one) to prostrateلِبَشَرٍto a humanخَلَقْتَهُۥwhom You createdمِن(out) ofصَلْصَـٰلٍۢclayمِّنْfromحَمَإٍۢblack mudمَّسْنُونٍۢaltered٣٣

He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud."

١٥:٣٤

قَالَHe saidفَٱخْرُجْThen get outمِنْهَاof itفَإِنَّكَfor indeed, youرَجِيمٌۭ(are) expelled٣٤

[Allāh] said, "Then depart from it, for indeed, you are expelled.

١٥:٣٥

وَإِنَّAnd indeedعَلَيْكَupon youٱللَّعْنَةَ(will be) the curseإِلَىٰtillيَوْمِ(the) Dayٱلدِّينِ(of) [the] Judgment٣٥

And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense."

١٥:٣٦

قَالَHe saidرَبِّO my LordفَأَنظِرْنِىٓThen give me respiteإِلَىٰtillيَوْمِ(the) Dayيُبْعَثُونَthey are raised٣٦

He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected."

١٥:٣٧

قَالَHe saidفَإِنَّكَThen indeed youمِنَ(are) ofٱلْمُنظَرِينَthe ones given respite٣٧

[Allāh] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved

١٥:٣٨

إِلَىٰTillيَوْمِthe Dayٱلْوَقْتِ(of) the timeٱلْمَعْلُومِwell-known٣٨

Until the Day of the time well-known."

١٥:٣٩

قَالَHe saidرَبِّMy LordبِمَآBecauseأَغْوَيْتَنِىYou misled meلَأُزَيِّنَنَّsurely, I will make (evil) fair-seemingلَهُمْto themفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthوَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْand I will mislead themأَجْمَعِينَall٣٩

[Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them [i.e., mankind] on earth, and I will mislead them all

١٥:٤٠

إِلَّاExceptعِبَادَكَYour slavesمِنْهُمُamong themٱلْمُخْلَصِينَthe ones who are sincere٤٠

Except, among them, Your chosen servants."

١٥:٤١

قَالَHe saidهَـٰذَاThisصِرَٰطٌ(is) the wayعَلَىَّto Meمُسْتَقِيمٌstraight٤١

[Allāh] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight.

١٥:٤٢

إِنَّIndeedعِبَادِىMy slavesلَيْسَnotلَكَyou haveعَلَيْهِمْover themسُلْطَـٰنٌany authorityإِلَّاexceptمَنِthose whoٱتَّبَعَكَfollow youمِنَofٱلْغَاوِينَthe ones who go astray٤٢

Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators.

١٥:٤٣

وَإِنَّAnd indeedجَهَنَّمَHellلَمَوْعِدُهُمْ(is) surely the promised place for themأَجْمَعِينَall٤٣

And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all.

١٥:٤٤

لَهَاFor itسَبْعَةُ(are) sevenأَبْوَٰبٍۢgatesلِّكُلِّfor eachبَابٍۢgateمِّنْهُمْamong themجُزْءٌۭ(is) a portionمَّقْسُومٌassigned٤٤

It has seven gates; for every gate is of them [i.e., Satan's followers] a portion designated."

١٥:٤٥

إِنَّIndeedٱلْمُتَّقِينَthe righteousفِى(will be) inجَنَّـٰتٍۢGardensوَعُيُونٍand water springs٤٥

Indeed, the righteous will be within gardens and springs,

١٥:٤٦

ٱدْخُلُوهَاEnter itبِسَلَـٰمٍin peaceءَامِنِينَsecure٤٦

[Having been told], "Enter it in peace, safe [and secure]."

١٥:٤٧

وَنَزَعْنَاAnd We (will) removeمَاwhatفِى(is) inصُدُورِهِمtheir breastsمِّنْofغِلٍّrancorإِخْوَٰنًا(they will be) brothersعَلَىٰonسُرُرٍۢthronesمُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَfacing each other٤٧

And We will remove whatever is in their breasts of resentment, [so they will be] brothers, on thrones facing each other.

١٥:٤٨

لَاNotيَمَسُّهُمْwill touch themفِيهَاthereinنَصَبٌۭfatigueوَمَاand notهُمtheyمِّنْهَاfrom itبِمُخْرَجِينَwill be removed٤٨

No fatigue will touch them therein, nor from it will they [ever] be removed.

١٥:٤٩

۞ نَبِّئْInformعِبَادِىٓMy slavesأَنِّىٓthat IأَنَاI amٱلْغَفُورُthe Oft-Forgivingٱلرَّحِيمُthe Most Merciful٤٩

[O Muḥammad], inform My servants that it is I who am the Forgiving, the Merciful,

١٥:٥٠

وَأَنَّAnd thatعَذَابِىMy punishmentهُوَitٱلْعَذَابُ(is) the punishmentٱلْأَلِيمُthe most painful٥٠

And that it is My punishment which is the painful punishment.

١٥:٥١

وَنَبِّئْهُمْAnd inform themعَنaboutضَيْفِ(the) guestsإِبْرَٰهِيمَ(of) Ibrahim٥١

And inform them about the guests of Abraham,

١٥:٥٢

إِذْWhenدَخَلُوا۟they enteredعَلَيْهِupon himفَقَالُوا۟and saidسَلَـٰمًۭاPeaceقَالَHe saidإِنَّاIndeed, weمِنكُمْ(are) of youوَجِلُونَafraid٥٢

When they entered upon him and said, "Peace." [Abraham] said, "Indeed, we are fearful [i.e., apprehensive] of you."

١٥:٥٣

قَالُوا۟They saidلَا(Do) notتَوْجَلْbe afraidإِنَّاindeed, weنُبَشِّرُكَ[we] bring glad tidings to youبِغُلَـٰمٍof a boyعَلِيمٍۢlearned٥٣

[The angels] said, "Fear not. Indeed, we give you good tidings of a learned boy."

١٥:٥٤

قَالَHe saidأَبَشَّرْتُمُونِىDo you give me glad tidingsعَلَىٰٓDo you give me glad tidingsأَنalthoughمَّسَّنِىَhas overtaken meٱلْكِبَرُold ageفَبِمَThen about whatتُبَشِّرُونَyou give glad tidings٥٤

He said, "Have you given me good tidings although old age has come upon me? Then of what [wonder] do you inform?"

١٥:٥٥

قَالُوا۟They saidبَشَّرْنَـٰكَWe give you glad tidingsبِٱلْحَقِّin truthفَلَاso (do) notتَكُنbeمِّنَofٱلْقَـٰنِطِينَthe despairing٥٥

They said, "We have given you good tidings in truth, so do not be of the despairing."

١٥:٥٦

قَالَHe saidوَمَنAnd whoيَقْنَطُdespairsمِنofرَّحْمَةِ(the) Mercyرَبِّهِۦٓ(of) his Lordإِلَّاexceptٱلضَّآلُّونَthose who are astray٥٦

He said, "And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except for those astray?"

١٥:٥٧

قَالَHe saidفَمَاThen whatخَطْبُكُمْ(is) your businessأَيُّهَاO messengersٱلْمُرْسَلُونَO messengers٥٧

[Abraham] said, "Then what is your business [here], O messengers?"

١٥:٥٨

قَالُوٓا۟They saidإِنَّآIndeed, weأُرْسِلْنَآ[we] have been sentإِلَىٰtoقَوْمٍۢa people مُّجْرِمِينَcriminals٥٨

They said, "Indeed, we have been sent to a people of criminals,

١٥:٥٩

إِلَّآExceptءَالَthe familyلُوطٍof Lutإِنَّاindeed, weلَمُنَجُّوهُمْsurely will save themأَجْمَعِينَall٥٩

Except the family of Lot; indeed, we will save them all

١٥:٦٠

إِلَّاExceptٱمْرَأَتَهُۥhis wifeقَدَّرْنَآ ۙWe have decreedإِنَّهَاthat sheلَمِنَ(is) surely ofٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَthose who remain behind٦٠

Except his wife." We [i.e., Allāh] decreed that she is of those who remain behind.

١٥:٦١

فَلَمَّاAnd whenجَآءَcameءَالَ(to the) familyلُوطٍ(of) Lutٱلْمُرْسَلُونَthe messengers٦١

And when the messengers came to the family of Lot,

١٥:٦٢

قَالَHe saidإِنَّكُمْIndeed, youقَوْمٌۭ(are) a peopleمُّنكَرُونَunknown٦٢

He said, "Indeed, you are people unknown."

١٥:٦٣

قَالُوا۟They saidبَلْNayجِئْنَـٰكَwe have come to youبِمَاwith whatكَانُوا۟they wereفِيهِin itيَمْتَرُونَdisputing٦٣

They said, "But we have come to you with that about which they were disputing,

١٥:٦٤

وَأَتَيْنَـٰكَAnd we have come to youبِٱلْحَقِّwith the truthوَإِنَّاand indeed, weلَصَـٰدِقُونَsurely (are) truthful٦٤

And we have come to you with truth, and indeed, we are truthful.

١٥:٦٥

فَأَسْرِSo travelبِأَهْلِكَwith your familyبِقِطْعٍۢin a portionمِّنَofٱلَّيْلِthe nightوَٱتَّبِعْand followأَدْبَـٰرَهُمْtheir backsوَلَاand notيَلْتَفِتْlet look backمِنكُمْamong youأَحَدٌۭanyoneوَٱمْضُوا۟and go onحَيْثُwhereتُؤْمَرُونَyou are ordered٦٥

So set out with your family during a portion of the night and follow behind them and let not anyone among you look back and continue on to where you are commanded."

١٥:٦٦

وَقَضَيْنَآAnd We conveyedإِلَيْهِto himذَٰلِكَ[that]ٱلْأَمْرَthe matterأَنَّthatدَابِرَ(the) rootهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ(of) theseمَقْطُوعٌۭwould be cut offمُّصْبِحِينَ(by) early morning٦٦

And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning.

١٥:٦٧

وَجَآءَAnd cameأَهْلُ(the) peopleٱلْمَدِينَةِ(of) the cityيَسْتَبْشِرُونَrejoicing٦٧

And the people of the city came rejoicing.

١٥:٦٨

قَالَHe saidإِنَّIndeedهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِtheseضَيْفِى(are) my guestsفَلَاso (do) notتَفْضَحُونِshame me٦٨

[Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me.

١٥:٦٩

وَٱتَّقُوا۟And fearٱللَّهَAllahوَلَاand (do) notتُخْزُونِdisgrace me٦٩

And fear Allāh and do not disgrace me."

١٥:٧٠

قَالُوٓا۟They saidأَوَلَمْDid notنَنْهَكَwe forbid youعَنِfromٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَthe world٧٠

They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?"

١٥:٧١

قَالَHe saidهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِTheseبَنَاتِىٓ(are) my daughtersإِنifكُنتُمْyou would beفَـٰعِلِينَdoers٧١

[Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]."

١٥:٧٢

لَعَمْرُكَBy your lifeإِنَّهُمْindeed, theyلَفِىwere inسَكْرَتِهِمْtheir intoxicationيَعْمَهُونَwandering blindly٧٢

By your life, [O Muḥammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly.

١٥:٧٣

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُSo, seized themٱلصَّيْحَةُthe awful cryمُشْرِقِينَat sunrise٧٣

So the shriek seized them at sunrise.

١٥:٧٤

فَجَعَلْنَاAnd We madeعَـٰلِيَهَاits highest (part)سَافِلَهَاits lowestوَأَمْطَرْنَاand We rainedعَلَيْهِمْupon themحِجَارَةًۭstonesمِّنofسِجِّيلٍbaked clay٧٤

And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay.

١٥:٧٥

إِنَّIndeedفِىinذَٰلِكَthatلَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ(are) the Signsلِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَfor those who discern٧٥

Indeed in that are signs for those who discern.

١٥:٧٦

وَإِنَّهَاAnd indeed, itلَبِسَبِيلٍۢ(is) on a roadمُّقِيمٍestablished٧٦

And indeed, they [i.e., those cities] are [situated] on an established road.

١٥:٧٧

إِنَّIndeedفِىinذَٰلِكَthatلَـَٔايَةًۭsurely (is) a Signلِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَfor the believers٧٧

Indeed in that is a sign for the believers.

١٥:٧٨

وَإِنAnd wereكَانَAnd wereأَصْحَـٰبُ(the) companionsٱلْأَيْكَةِ(of) the woodلَظَـٰلِمِينَsurely wrongdoers٧٨

And the companions of the thicket [i.e., the people of Madyan] were [also] wrongdoers,

١٥:٧٩

فَٱنتَقَمْنَاSo We took retributionمِنْهُمْfrom themوَإِنَّهُمَاand indeed, they bothلَبِإِمَامٍۢ(were) on a highwayمُّبِينٍۢclear٧٩

So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway.

١٥:٨٠

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyكَذَّبَdeniedأَصْحَـٰبُ(the) companionsٱلْحِجْرِ(of) the Rocky Tractٱلْمُرْسَلِينَthe Messengers٨٠

And certainly did the companions of al-Ḥijr [i.e., the Thamūd] deny the messengers.

١٥:٨١

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْAnd We gave themءَايَـٰتِنَاOur Signsفَكَانُوا۟but they wereعَنْهَاfrom themمُعْرِضِينَturning away٨١

And We gave them Our signs, but from them they were turning away.

١٥:٨٢

وَكَانُوا۟And they used (to)يَنْحِتُونَcarveمِنَfromٱلْجِبَالِthe mountainsبُيُوتًاhousesءَامِنِينَsecure٨٢

And they used to carve from the mountains, houses, feeling secure.

١٥:٨٣

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُBut seized themٱلصَّيْحَةُthe awful cryمُصْبِحِينَ(at) early morning٨٣

But the shriek seized them at early morning,

١٥:٨٤

فَمَآAnd notأَغْنَىٰavailedعَنْهُمthemمَّاwhatكَانُوا۟they used (to)يَكْسِبُونَearn٨٤

So nothing availed them [from] what they used to earn.

١٥:٨٥

وَمَاAnd notخَلَقْنَاWe createdٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِthe heavensوَٱلْأَرْضَand the earthوَمَاand whateverبَيْنَهُمَآ(is) between themإِلَّاexceptبِٱلْحَقِّ ۗin truthوَإِنَّAnd indeedٱلسَّاعَةَthe Hourلَـَٔاتِيَةٌۭ ۖ(is) surely comingفَٱصْفَحِSo overlookٱلصَّفْحَ(with) forgivenessٱلْجَمِيلَgracious٨٥

And We have not created the heavens and earth and that between them except in truth. And indeed, the Hour is coming; so forgive with gracious forgiveness.

١٥:٨٦

إِنَّIndeedرَبَّكَyour LordهُوَHeٱلْخَلَّـٰقُ(is) the Creatorٱلْعَلِيمُthe All-Knower٨٦

Indeed, your Lord - He is the Knowing Creator.

١٥:٨٧

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyءَاتَيْنَـٰكَWe have given youسَبْعًۭاsevenمِّنَofٱلْمَثَانِىthe oft-repeatedوَٱلْقُرْءَانَand the QuranٱلْعَظِيمَGreat٨٧

And We have certainly given you, [O Muḥammad], seven of the often repeated [verses]1 and the great Qur’ān.

١٥:٨٨

لَا(Do) notتَمُدَّنَّextendعَيْنَيْكَyour eyesإِلَىٰtowardsمَاwhatمَتَّعْنَاWe have bestowedبِهِۦٓwith itأَزْوَٰجًۭا(to) categoriesمِّنْهُمْof themوَلَاand (do) notتَحْزَنْgrieveعَلَيْهِمْover themوَٱخْفِضْAnd lowerجَنَاحَكَyour wingلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَto the believers٨٨

Do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [certain] categories of them [i.e., the disbelievers], and do not grieve over them. And lower your wing [i.e., show kindness] to the believers.

١٥:٨٩

وَقُلْAnd sayإِنِّىٓIndeed, Iأَنَا[I] amٱلنَّذِيرُa warnerٱلْمُبِينُclear٨٩

And say, "Indeed, I am the clear warner" -

١٥:٩٠

كَمَآAsأَنزَلْنَاWe sent downعَلَىonٱلْمُقْتَسِمِينَthose who divided٩٠

Just as We had revealed [scriptures] to the separators

١٥:٩١

ٱلَّذِينَThose whoجَعَلُوا۟have madeٱلْقُرْءَانَthe Quranعِضِينَ(in) parts٩١

Who have made the Qur’ān into portions.

١٥:٩٢

فَوَرَبِّكَSo by your Lordلَنَسْـَٔلَنَّهُمْsurely We will question themأَجْمَعِينَall٩٢

So by your Lord, We will surely question them all

١٥:٩٣

عَمَّاAbout whatكَانُوا۟they used (to)يَعْمَلُونَdo٩٣

About what they used to do.

١٥:٩٤

فَٱصْدَعْSo proclaimبِمَاof whatتُؤْمَرُyou are orderedوَأَعْرِضْand turn awayعَنِfromٱلْمُشْرِكِينَthe polytheists٩٤

Then declare what you are commanded and turn away from the polytheists.

١٥:٩٥

إِنَّاIndeed, Weكَفَيْنَـٰكَ[We] are sufficient for youٱلْمُسْتَهْزِءِينَ(against) the mockers٩٥

Indeed, We are sufficient for you against the mockers

١٥:٩٦

ٱلَّذِينَThose whoيَجْعَلُونَset upمَعَwithٱللَّهِAllahإِلَـٰهًاgodءَاخَرَ ۚanotherفَسَوْفَBut soonيَعْلَمُونَthey will come to know٩٦

Who make [equal] with Allāh another deity. But they are going to know.

١٥:٩٧

وَلَقَدْAnd verilyنَعْلَمُWe knowأَنَّكَthat [you]يَضِيقُ(is) straitenedصَدْرُكَyour breastبِمَاby whatيَقُولُونَthey say٩٧

And We already know that your breast is constrained by what they say.

١٥:٩٨

فَسَبِّحْSo glorifyبِحَمْدِwith the praiseرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordوَكُنand beمِّنَofٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَthose who prostrate٩٨

So exalt [Allāh] with praise of your Lord and be of those who prostrate [to Him].

١٥:٩٩

وَٱعْبُدْAnd worshipرَبَّكَyour Lordحَتَّىٰuntilيَأْتِيَكَcomes to youٱلْيَقِينُthe certainty٩٩

And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty [i.e., death].
