سورة النحل (النحل) هي السورة رقم ١٦ في القرآن الكريم — وهي سورة مكية تتألف من ١٢٨ آية. السور المكية نزلت قبل هجرة النبي محمد ﷺ إلى المدينة، وتركّز غالبًا على الإيمان وتوحيد الله والآخرة.

بسملة
بِسْمِIn (the) namebis'miٱللَّهِ(of) Allahl-lahiٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِthe Most Graciousl-raḥmāniٱلرَّحِيمِthe Most Mercifull-raḥīmi
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
١٦:١
أَتَىٰٓWill comeatāأَمْرُ(the) command of Allahamruٱللَّهِ(the) command of Allahl-lahiفَلَاso (do) notfalāتَسْتَعْجِلُوهُ ۚ(be) impatient for ittastaʿjilūhuسُبْحَـٰنَهُۥGlorified is Hesub'ḥānahuوَتَعَـٰلَىٰand Exalted (is) Hewataʿālāعَمَّاabove whatʿammāيُشْرِكُونَthey associateyush'rikūna١
The command of Allāh is coming, so be not impatient for it. Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him.
١٦:٢
يُنَزِّلُHe sends downyunazziluٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَthe Angelsl-malāikataبِٱلرُّوحِwith the inspirationbil-rūḥiمِنْofminأَمْرِهِۦHis CommandamrihiعَلَىٰuponʿalāمَنwhommanيَشَآءُHe willsyashāuمِنْofminعِبَادِهِۦٓHis slavesʿibādihiأَنْthatanأَنذِرُوٓا۟Warnandhirūأَنَّهُۥthat [He]annahuلَآ(there is) nolāإِلَـٰهَgodilāhaإِلَّآexceptillāأَنَا۠Meanāفَٱتَّقُونِso fear Mefa-ittaqūni٢
He sends down the angels, with the inspiration [i.e., revelation] of His command, upon whom He wills of His servants, [telling them], "Warn that there is no deity except Me; so fear Me."
١٦:٣
خَلَقَHe createdkhalaqaٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِthe heavensl-samāwātiوَٱلْأَرْضَand the earthwal-arḍaبِٱلْحَقِّ ۚin truthbil-ḥaqiتَعَـٰلَىٰExalted is Hetaʿālāعَمَّاabove whatʿammāيُشْرِكُونَthey associateyush'rikūna٣
He created the heavens and earth in truth. High is He above what they associate with Him.
١٦:٤
خَلَقَHe createdkhalaqaٱلْإِنسَـٰنَthe human kindl-insānaمِنfromminنُّطْفَةٍۢa minute quantity of semennuṭ'fatinفَإِذَاthen beholdfa-idhāهُوَhehuwaخَصِيمٌۭ(is) an opponentkhaṣīmunمُّبِينٌۭclearmubīnun٤
He created man from a sperm-drop; then at once he is a clear adversary.
١٦:٥
وَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمَAnd the cattlewal-anʿāmaخَلَقَهَا ۗHe created themkhalaqahāلَكُمْfor youlakumفِيهَاin themfīhāدِفْءٌۭ(is) warmthdif'onوَمَنَـٰفِعُand benefitswamanāfiʿuوَمِنْهَاand from themwamin'hāتَأْكُلُونَyou eattakulūna٥
And the grazing livestock He has created for you; in them is warmth and [numerous] benefits, and from them you eat.
١٦:٦
وَلَكُمْAnd for youwalakumفِيهَاin themfīhāجَمَالٌ(is) beautyjamālunحِينَwhenḥīnaتُرِيحُونَyou bring them inturīḥūnaوَحِينَand whenwaḥīnaتَسْرَحُونَyou take them outtasraḥūna٦
And for you in them is [the enjoyment of] beauty when you bring them in [for the evening] and when you send them out [to pasture].
١٦:٧
وَتَحْمِلُAnd they carrywataḥmiluأَثْقَالَكُمْyour loadsathqālakumإِلَىٰtoilāبَلَدٍۢa landbaladinلَّمْnotlamتَكُونُوا۟you couldtakūnūبَـٰلِغِيهِreach itbālighīhiإِلَّاexceptillāبِشِقِّwith great troublebishiqqiٱلْأَنفُسِ ۚ(to) yourselvesl-anfusiإِنَّIndeedinnaرَبَّكُمْyour Lordrabbakumلَرَءُوفٌۭsurely is Most KindlaraūfunرَّحِيمٌۭMost Mercifulraḥīmun٧
And they carry your loads to a land you could not have reached except with difficulty to yourselves. Indeed, your Lord is Kind and Merciful.
١٦:٨
وَٱلْخَيْلَAnd horseswal-khaylaوَٱلْبِغَالَand muleswal-bighālaوَٱلْحَمِيرَand donkeyswal-ḥamīraلِتَرْكَبُوهَاfor you to ride themlitarkabūhāوَزِينَةًۭ ۚand (as) adornmentwazīnatanوَيَخْلُقُAnd He createswayakhluquمَاwhatmāلَاnotlāتَعْلَمُونَyou knowtaʿlamūna٨
And [He created] the horses, mules and donkeys for you to ride and [as] adornment. And He creates that which you do not know.
١٦:٩
وَعَلَىAnd uponwaʿalāٱللَّهِAllahl-lahiقَصْدُ(is) the directionqaṣduٱلسَّبِيلِ(of) the wayl-sabīliوَمِنْهَاand among themwamin'hāجَآئِرٌۭ ۚ(are) crookedjāirunوَلَوْAnd ifwalawشَآءَHe willedshāaلَهَدَىٰكُمْsurely He would have guided youlahadākumأَجْمَعِينَallajmaʿīna٩
And upon Allāh is the direction of the [right] way, and among them [i.e., the various paths] are those deviating. And if He willed, He could have guided you all.
١٦:١٠
هُوَHehuwaٱلَّذِىٓ(is) the One Whoalladhīأَنزَلَsends downanzalaمِنَfromminaٱلسَّمَآءِthe skyl-samāiمَآءًۭ ۖwatermāanلَّكُمfor youlakumمِّنْهُof itmin'huشَرَابٌۭ(is) drinksharābunوَمِنْهُand from itwamin'huشَجَرٌۭ(grows) vegetationshajarunفِيهِin whichfīhiتُسِيمُونَyou pasture your cattletusīmūna١٠
It is He who sends down rain from the sky; from it is drink and from it is foliage in which you pasture [animals].
١٦:١١
يُنۢبِتُHe causes to growyunbituلَكُمfor youlakumبِهِwith itbihiٱلزَّرْعَthe cropsl-zarʿaوَٱلزَّيْتُونَand the oliveswal-zaytūnaوَٱلنَّخِيلَand the date-palmswal-nakhīlaوَٱلْأَعْنَـٰبَand the grapeswal-aʿnābaوَمِنand ofwaminكُلِّevery kindkulliٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ ۗ(of) fruitsl-thamarātiإِنَّIndeedinnaفِىinfīذَٰلِكَthatdhālikaلَـَٔايَةًۭsurely (is) a signlaāyatanلِّقَوْمٍۢfor a peopleliqawminيَتَفَكَّرُونَwho reflectyatafakkarūna١١
He causes to grow for you thereby the crops, olives, palm trees, grapevines, and of all the fruits. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.
١٦:١٢
وَسَخَّرَAnd He has subjectedwasakharaلَكُمُfor youlakumuٱلَّيْلَthe nightal-laylaوَٱلنَّهَارَand the daywal-nahāraوَٱلشَّمْسَand the sunwal-shamsaوَٱلْقَمَرَ ۖand the moonwal-qamaraوَٱلنُّجُومُand the starswal-nujūmuمُسَخَّرَٰتٌۢ(are) subjectedmusakharātunبِأَمْرِهِۦٓ ۗby His commandbi-amrihiإِنَّIndeedinnaفِىinfīذَٰلِكَthatdhālikaلَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢsurely (are) signslaāyātinلِّقَوْمٍۢfor a peopleliqawminيَعْقِلُونَwho use reasonyaʿqilūna١٢
And He has subjected for you the night and day and the sun and moon, and the stars are subjected by His command. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason.
١٦:١٣
وَمَاAnd whateverwamāذَرَأَHe multiplieddhara-aلَكُمْfor youlakumفِىinfīٱلْأَرْضِthe earthl-arḍiمُخْتَلِفًا(of) varyingmukh'talifanأَلْوَٰنُهُۥٓ ۗcolorsalwānuhuإِنَّIndeedinnaفِىinfīذَٰلِكَthatdhālikaلَـَٔايَةًۭsurely (is) a signlaāyatanلِّقَوْمٍۢfor a peopleliqawminيَذَّكَّرُونَwho rememberyadhakkarūna١٣
And [He has subjected] whatever He multiplied for you on the earth of varying colors. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who remember.
١٦:١٤
وَهُوَAnd Hewahuwaٱلَّذِى(is) the One Whoalladhīسَخَّرَsubjectedsakharaٱلْبَحْرَthe seal-baḥraلِتَأْكُلُوا۟for you to eatlitakulūمِنْهُfrom itmin'huلَحْمًۭاmeatlaḥmanطَرِيًّۭاfreshṭariyyanوَتَسْتَخْرِجُوا۟and that you bring forthwatastakhrijūمِنْهُfrom itmin'huحِلْيَةًۭornamentsḥil'yatanتَلْبَسُونَهَا(that) you wear themtalbasūnahāوَتَرَىAnd you seewatarāٱلْفُلْكَthe shipsl-ful'kaمَوَاخِرَploughingmawākhiraفِيهِthrough itfīhiوَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟and that you may seekwalitabtaghūمِنofminفَضْلِهِۦHis Bountyfaḍlihiوَلَعَلَّكُمْand that you maywalaʿallakumتَشْكُرُونَ(be) gratefultashkurūna١٤
And it is He who subjected the sea for you to eat from it tender meat and to extract from it ornaments which you wear. And you see the ships plowing through it, and [He subjected it] that you may seek of His bounty; and perhaps you will be grateful.
١٦:١٥
وَأَلْقَىٰAnd He has castwa-alqāفِىinfīٱلْأَرْضِthe earthl-arḍiرَوَٰسِىَfirm mountainsrawāsiyaأَنlestanتَمِيدَit should shaketamīdaبِكُمْwith youbikumوَأَنْهَـٰرًۭاand riverswa-anhāranوَسُبُلًۭاand roadswasubulanلَّعَلَّكُمْso that you maylaʿallakumتَهْتَدُونَbe guidedtahtadūna١٥
And He has cast into the earth firmly set mountains, lest it shift with you, and [made] rivers and roads, that you may be guided,
١٦:١٦
وَعَلَـٰمَـٰتٍۢ ۚAnd landmarkswaʿalāmātinوَبِٱلنَّجْمِAnd by the starswabil-najmiهُمْtheyhumيَهْتَدُونَguide themselvesyahtadūna١٦
And landmarks. And by the stars they are [also] guided.
١٦:١٧
أَفَمَنThen is He Whoafamanيَخْلُقُcreatesyakhluquكَمَنlike one whokamanلَّا(does) notlāيَخْلُقُ ۗcreateyakhluquأَفَلَاThen will you notafalāتَذَكَّرُونَremembertadhakkarūna١٧
Then is He who creates like one who does not create? So will you not be reminded?
١٦:١٨
وَإِنAnd ifwa-inتَعُدُّوا۟you should counttaʿuddūنِعْمَةَthe Favors of Allahniʿ'mataٱللَّهِthe Favors of Allahl-lahiلَاnotlāتُحْصُوهَآ ۗyou could enumerate themtuḥ'ṣūhāإِنَّIndeedinnaٱللَّهَAllahl-lahaلَغَفُورٌۭ(is) Oft-ForgivinglaghafūrunرَّحِيمٌۭMost Mercifulraḥīmun١٨
And if you should count the favors of Allāh, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
١٦:١٩
وَٱللَّهُAnd Allahwal-lahuيَعْلَمُknowsyaʿlamuمَاwhatmāتُسِرُّونَyou concealtusirrūnaوَمَاand whatwamāتُعْلِنُونَyou revealtuʿ'linūna١٩
And Allāh knows what you conceal and what you declare.
١٦:٢٠
وَٱلَّذِينَAnd those whomwa-alladhīnaيَدْعُونَthey invokeyadʿūnaمِنbesidesminدُونِbesidesdūniٱللَّهِAllahl-lahiلَاnotlāيَخْلُقُونَthey createyakhluqūnaشَيْـًۭٔاanythingshayanوَهُمْbut (are) themselveswahumيُخْلَقُونَcreatedyukh'laqūna٢٠
And those they invoke other than Allāh create nothing, and they [themselves] are created.
١٦:٢١
أَمْوَٰتٌ(They are) deadamwātunغَيْرُnot aliveghayruأَحْيَآءٍۢ ۖnot aliveaḥyāinوَمَاAnd notwamāيَشْعُرُونَthey perceiveyashʿurūnaأَيَّانَwhenayyānaيُبْعَثُونَthey will be resurrectedyub'ʿathūna٢١
They are [in fact] dead, not alive, and they do not perceive when they will be resurrected.
١٦:٢٢
إِلَـٰهُكُمْYour godilāhukumإِلَـٰهٌۭ(is) Godilāhunوَٰحِدٌۭ ۚOnewāḥidunفَٱلَّذِينَBut those whofa-alladhīnaلَا(do) notlāيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveyu'minūnaبِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِin the Hereafterbil-ākhiratiقُلُوبُهُمtheir heartsqulūbuhumمُّنكِرَةٌۭrefusemunkiratunوَهُمand theywahumمُّسْتَكْبِرُونَ(are) arrogantmus'takbirūna٢٢
Your god is one God. But those who do not believe in the Hereafter - their hearts are disapproving, and they are arrogant.
١٦:٢٣
لَاNo doubtlāجَرَمَNo doubtjaramaأَنَّthatannaٱللَّهَAllahl-lahaيَعْلَمُknowsyaʿlamuمَاwhatmāيُسِرُّونَthey concealyusirrūnaوَمَاand whatwamāيُعْلِنُونَ ۚthey revealyuʿ'linūnaإِنَّهُۥIndeed, Heinnahuلَا(does) notlāيُحِبُّloveyuḥibbuٱلْمُسْتَكْبِرِينَthe arrogant onesl-mus'takbirīna٢٣
Assuredly, Allāh knows what they conceal and what they declare. Indeed, He does not like the arrogant.
١٦:٢٤
وَإِذَاAnd whenwa-idhāقِيلَit is saidqīlaلَهُمto themlahumمَّاذَآWhatmādhāأَنزَلَhas your Lord sent downanzalaرَبُّكُمْ ۙhas your Lord sent downrabbukumقَالُوٓا۟They sayqālūأَسَـٰطِيرُTalesasāṭīruٱلْأَوَّلِينَ(of) the ancientl-awalīna٢٤
And when it is said to them, "What has your Lord sent down?" they say, "Legends of the former peoples,"
١٦:٢٥
لِيَحْمِلُوٓا۟That they may bearliyaḥmilūأَوْزَارَهُمْtheir own burdensawzārahumكَامِلَةًۭ(in) fullkāmilatanيَوْمَon (the) Dayyawmaٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۙ(of) the Resurrectionl-qiyāmatiوَمِنْand ofwaminأَوْزَارِthe burdensawzāriٱلَّذِينَ(of) those whomalladhīnaيُضِلُّونَهُمthey misled [them]yuḍillūnahumبِغَيْرِwithoutbighayriعِلْمٍ ۗknowledgeʿil'minأَلَاUnquestionablyalāسَآءَevilsāaمَا(is) whatmāيَزِرُونَthey will bearyazirūna٢٥
That they may bear their own burdens [i.e., sins] in full on the Day of Resurrection and some of the burdens of those whom they misguide without [i.e., by lack of] knowledge. Unquestionably, evil is that which they bear.
١٦:٢٦
قَدْVerilyqadمَكَرَplottedmakaraٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaمِن(were) before themminقَبْلِهِمْ(were) before themqablihimفَأَتَىbut Allah camefa-atāٱللَّهُbut Allah camel-lahuبُنْيَـٰنَهُم(at) their buildingbun'yānahumمِّنَfromminaٱلْقَوَاعِدِthe foundationsl-qawāʿidiفَخَرَّso fellfakharraعَلَيْهِمُupon themʿalayhimuٱلسَّقْفُthe roofl-saqfuمِنfromminفَوْقِهِمْabove themfawqihimوَأَتَىٰهُمُand came to themwa-atāhumuٱلْعَذَابُthe punishmentl-ʿadhābuمِنْfromminحَيْثُwhereḥaythuلَاthey (did) not perceivelāيَشْعُرُونَthey (did) not perceiveyashʿurūna٢٦
Those before them had already plotted, but Allāh came at [i.e., uprooted] their building from the foundations, so the roof fell upon them from above them, and the punishment came to them from where they did not perceive.
١٦:٢٧
ثُمَّThenthummaيَوْمَ(on) the Dayyawmaٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ(of) the Resurrectionl-qiyāmatiيُخْزِيهِمْHe will disgrace themyukh'zīhimوَيَقُولُand saywayaqūluأَيْنَWhereaynaشُرَكَآءِىَ(are) My partnersshurakāiyaٱلَّذِينَthose (for) whomalladhīnaكُنتُمْyou used (to)kuntumتُشَـٰٓقُّونَopposetushāqqūnaفِيهِمْ ۚ[in them]fīhimقَالَWill sayqālaٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaأُوتُوا۟were givenūtūٱلْعِلْمَthe knowledgel-ʿil'maإِنَّIndeedinnaٱلْخِزْىَthe disgracel-khiz'yaٱلْيَوْمَthis Dayl-yawmaوَٱلسُّوٓءَand evilwal-sūaعَلَى(are) uponʿalāٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَthe disbelieversl-kāfirīna٢٧
Then on the Day of Resurrection He will disgrace them and say, "Where are My 'partners' for whom you used to oppose [the believers]?" Those who were given knowledge will say, "Indeed disgrace, this Day, and evil are upon the disbelievers" -
١٦:٢٨
ٱلَّذِينَThose whom alladhīnaتَتَوَفَّىٰهُمُtake them in deathtatawaffāhumuٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُthe Angelsl-malāikatuظَالِمِىٓ(while) wrongingẓālimīأَنفُسِهِمْ ۖthemselvesanfusihimفَأَلْقَوُا۟then they would offerfa-alqawūٱلسَّلَمَthe submissionl-salamaمَاNotmāكُنَّاwe werekunnāنَعْمَلُdoingnaʿmaluمِنanyminسُوٓءٍۭ ۚevilsūinبَلَىٰٓNaybalāإِنَّindeedinnaٱللَّهَAllahl-lahaعَلِيمٌۢ(is) All-Knowerʿalīmunبِمَاof whatbimāكُنتُمْyou used (to)kuntumتَعْمَلُونَdotaʿmalūna٢٨
The ones whom the angels take in death [while] wronging themselves, and [who] then offer submission, [saying], "We were not doing any evil." But, yes! Indeed, Allāh is Knowing of what you used to do.
١٦:٢٩
فَٱدْخُلُوٓا۟So enterfa-ud'khulūأَبْوَٰبَ(the) gatesabwābaجَهَنَّمَ(of) Helljahannamaخَـٰلِدِينَ(to) abide foreverkhālidīnaفِيهَا ۖin itfīhāفَلَبِئْسَSurely, wretchedfalabi'saمَثْوَى(is the) abodemathwāٱلْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ(of) the arrogantl-mutakabirīna٢٩
So enter the gates of Hell to abide eternally therein, and how wretched is the residence of the arrogant.
١٦:٣٠
۞ وَقِيلَAnd it will be saidwaqīlaلِلَّذِينَto those wholilladhīnaٱتَّقَوْا۟fear AllahittaqawمَاذَآWhatmādhāأَنزَلَhas your Lord sent downanzalaرَبُّكُمْ ۚhas your Lord sent downrabbukumقَالُوا۟They will sayqālūخَيْرًۭا ۗGoodkhayranلِّلَّذِينَFor those wholilladhīnaأَحْسَنُوا۟do goodaḥsanūفِىinfīهَـٰذِهِthishādhihiٱلدُّنْيَاworldl-dun'yāحَسَنَةٌۭ ۚ(is) a goodḥasanatunوَلَدَارُand the homewaladāruٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِof the Hereafterl-ākhiratiخَيْرٌۭ ۚ(is) betterkhayrunوَلَنِعْمَAnd surely excellentwalaniʿ'maدَارُ(is) the homedāruٱلْمُتَّقِينَ(of) the righteousl-mutaqīna٣٠
And it will be said to those who feared Allāh, "What did your Lord send down?" They will say, "[That which is] good." For those who do good in this world is good; and the home of the Hereafter is better. And how excellent is the home of the righteous -
١٦:٣١
جَنَّـٰتُGardensjannātuعَدْنٍۢ(of) Eden ʿadninيَدْخُلُونَهَاwhich they will enteryadkhulūnahāتَجْرِىflowstajrīمِنfromminتَحْتِهَاunderneath themtaḥtihāٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖthe riversl-anhāruلَهُمْFor themlahumفِيهَاthereinfīhāمَا(will be) whatevermāيَشَآءُونَ ۚthey wishyashāūnaكَذَٰلِكَThuskadhālikaيَجْزِىAllah rewardsyajzīٱللَّهُAllah rewardsl-lahuٱلْمُتَّقِينَthe righteousl-mutaqīna٣١
Gardens of perpetual residence, which they will enter, beneath which rivers flow. They will have therein whatever they wish. Thus does Allāh reward the righteous -
١٦:٣٢
ٱلَّذِينَThose whomalladhīnaتَتَوَفَّىٰهُمُtake them in deathtatawaffāhumuٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُthe Angelsl-malāikatuطَيِّبِينَ ۙ(when they are) pureṭayyibīnaيَقُولُونَsayingyaqūlūnaسَلَـٰمٌPeacesalāmunعَلَيْكُمُ(be) upon youʿalaykumuٱدْخُلُوا۟Enterud'khulūٱلْجَنَّةَParadisel-janataبِمَاfor whatbimāكُنتُمْyou used (to)kuntumتَعْمَلُونَdotaʿmalūna٣٢
The ones whom the angels take in death, [being] good and pure; [the angels] will say, "Peace be upon you. Enter Paradise for what you used to do."
١٦:٣٣
هَلْDohalيَنظُرُونَthey waityanẓurūnaإِلَّآexceptillāأَنthatanتَأْتِيَهُمُ(should) come to themtatiyahumuٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُthe Angelsl-malāikatuأَوْorawيَأْتِىَ(should) comeyatiyaأَمْرُ(the) Commandamruرَبِّكَ ۚ(of) your LordrabbikaكَذَٰلِكَThuskadhālikaفَعَلَdidfaʿalaٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaمِن(were) before themminقَبْلِهِمْ ۚ(were) before themqablihimوَمَاAnd notwamāظَلَمَهُمُwronged themẓalamahumuٱللَّهُAllahl-lahuوَلَـٰكِنbutwalākinكَانُوٓا۟they werekānūأَنفُسَهُمْthemselvesanfusahumيَظْلِمُونَwrongingyaẓlimūna٣٣
Do they [i.e., the disbelievers] await except that the angels should come to them or there comes the command of your Lord? Thus did those do before them. And Allāh wronged them not, but they had been wronging themselves.
١٦:٣٤
فَأَصَابَهُمْThen struck themfa-aṣābahumسَيِّـَٔاتُ(the) evil (results)sayyiātuمَا(of) whatmāعَمِلُوا۟they didʿamilūوَحَاقَand surroundedwaḥāqaبِهِمthembihimمَّاwhatmāكَانُوا۟they used (to)kānūبِهِۦ[of it]bihiيَسْتَهْزِءُونَmockyastahziūna٣٤
So they were struck by the evil consequences of what they did and were enveloped by what they used to ridicule.
١٦:٣٥
وَقَالَAnd saidwaqālaٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaأَشْرَكُوا۟associate partners (with Allah)ashrakūلَوْIflawشَآءَAllah (had) willedshāaٱللَّهُAllah (had) willedl-lahuمَاnotmāعَبَدْنَاwe (would) have worshippedʿabadnāمِنother than Himminدُونِهِۦother than Himdūnihiمِنanyminشَىْءٍۢthingshayinنَّحْنُwenaḥnuوَلَآand notwalāءَابَآؤُنَاour forefathersābāunāوَلَاand notwalāحَرَّمْنَاwe (would) have forbiddenḥarramnāمِنother than Himminدُونِهِۦother than Himdūnihiمِنanythingminشَىْءٍۢ ۚanythingshayinكَذَٰلِكَThuskadhālikaفَعَلَdidfaʿalaٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaمِن(were) before themminقَبْلِهِمْ ۚ(were) before themqablihimفَهَلْThen is (there)fahalعَلَىonʿalāٱلرُّسُلِthe messengersl-rusuliإِلَّاexceptillāٱلْبَلَـٰغُthe conveyancel-balāghuٱلْمُبِينُclearl-mubīnu٣٥
And those who associate others with Allāh say, "If Allāh had willed, we would not have worshipped anything other than Him, neither we nor our fathers, nor would we have forbidden anything through other than Him." Thus did those do before them. So is there upon the messengers except [the duty of] clear notification?
١٦:٣٦
وَلَقَدْAnd certainlywalaqadبَعَثْنَاWe sentbaʿathnāفِىintofīكُلِّeverykulliأُمَّةٍۢnationummatinرَّسُولًاa Messengerrasūlanأَنِthataniٱعْبُدُوا۟Worshipuʿ'budūٱللَّهَAllahl-lahaوَٱجْتَنِبُوا۟and avoidwa-ij'tanibūٱلطَّـٰغُوتَ ۖthe false deitiesl-ṭāghūtaفَمِنْهُمThen among themfamin'humمَّنْ(were some) whommanهَدَىAllah guidedhadāٱللَّهُAllah guidedl-lahuوَمِنْهُمand among themwamin'humمَّنْ(were) somemanحَقَّتْwas justifiedḥaqqatعَلَيْهِon themʿalayhiٱلضَّلَـٰلَةُ ۚthe strayingl-ḍalālatuفَسِيرُوا۟So travelfasīrūفِىinfīٱلْأَرْضِthe earthl-arḍiفَٱنظُرُوا۟and seefa-unẓurūكَيْفَhowkayfaكَانَwaskānaعَـٰقِبَةُthe endʿāqibatuٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ(of) the deniersl-mukadhibīna٣٦
And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], "Worship Allāh and avoid ṭāghūt."1 And among them were those whom Allāh guided, and among them were those upon whom error was [deservedly] decreed. So proceed [i.e., travel] through the earth and observe how was the end of the deniers.
١٦:٣٧
إِنIfinتَحْرِصْyou desiretaḥriṣعَلَىٰ[for]ʿalāهُدَىٰهُمْtheir guidancehudāhumفَإِنَّthen indeedfa-innaٱللَّهَAllahl-lahaلَا(will) notlāيَهْدِىguideyahdīمَنwhommanيُضِلُّ ۖHe lets go astrayyuḍilluوَمَاand not (are)wamāلَهُمfor themlahumمِّنanyminنَّـٰصِرِينَhelpersnāṣirīna٣٧
[Even] if you should strive for their guidance, [O Muḥammad], indeed, Allāh does not guide those He sends astray, and they will have no helpers.
١٦:٣٨
وَأَقْسَمُوا۟And they swearwa-aqsamūبِٱللَّهِby Allahbil-lahiجَهْدَstrongestjahdaأَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ ۙ(of) their oathsaymānihimلَاAllah will not resurrectlāيَبْعَثُAllah will not resurrectyabʿathuٱللَّهُAllah will not resurrectl-lahuمَن(one) whomanيَمُوتُ ۚdiesyamūtuبَلَىٰNaybalāوَعْدًا(it is) a promisewaʿdanعَلَيْهِupon Himʿalayhiحَقًّۭا(in) truthḥaqqanوَلَـٰكِنَّbutwalākinnaأَكْثَرَmostaktharaٱلنَّاسِ(of) the mankindl-nāsiلَا(do) notlāيَعْلَمُونَknowyaʿlamūna٣٨
And they swear by Allāh their strongest oaths [that] Allāh will not resurrect one who dies. But yes - [it is] a true promise [binding] upon Him, but most of the people do not know.
١٦:٣٩
لِيُبَيِّنَThat He will make clearliyubayyinaلَهُمُto themlahumuٱلَّذِىthatalladhīيَخْتَلِفُونَthey differyakhtalifūnaفِيهِwhereinfīhiوَلِيَعْلَمَand that may knowwaliyaʿlamaٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaكَفَرُوٓا۟disbelievedkafarūأَنَّهُمْthat theyannahumكَانُوا۟werekānūكَـٰذِبِينَliarskādhibīna٣٩
[It is] so He will make clear to them [the truth of] that wherein they differ and so those who have disbelieved may know that they were liars.
١٦:٤٠
إِنَّمَاOnlyinnamāقَوْلُنَاOur Wordqawlunāلِشَىْءٍto a thinglishayinإِذَآwhenidhāأَرَدْنَـٰهُWe intend itaradnāhuأَن(is) thatanنَّقُولَWe saynaqūlaلَهُۥto itlahuكُنBekunفَيَكُونُand it isfayakūnu٤٠
Indeed, Our word to a thing when We intend it is but that We say to it, "Be," and it is.
١٦:٤١
وَٱلَّذِينَAnd those whowa-alladhīnaهَاجَرُوا۟emigratedhājarūفِىin (the way)fīٱللَّهِ(of) Allahl-lahiمِنۢafterminبَعْدِafterbaʿdiمَا[what]māظُلِمُوا۟they were wrongedẓulimūلَنُبَوِّئَنَّهُمْsurely We will give them positionlanubawwi-annahumفِىinfīٱلدُّنْيَاthe worldl-dun'yāحَسَنَةًۭ ۖgoodḥasanatanوَلَأَجْرُbut surely the rewardwala-ajruٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ(of) the Hereafterl-ākhiratiأَكْبَرُ ۚ(is) greaterakbaruلَوْiflawكَانُوا۟theykānūيَعْلَمُونَknowyaʿlamūna٤١
And those who emigrated for [the cause of] Allāh after they had been wronged - We will surely settle them in this world in a good place; but the reward of the Hereafter is greater, if only they could know.
١٦:٤٢
ٱلَّذِينَThose whoalladhīnaصَبَرُوا۟(are) patientṣabarūوَعَلَىٰand onwaʿalāرَبِّهِمْtheir Lordrabbihimيَتَوَكَّلُونَthey put their trustyatawakkalūna٤٢
[They are] those who endured patiently and upon their Lord relied.
١٦:٤٣
وَمَآAnd notwamāأَرْسَلْنَاWe sentarsalnāمِنbefore youminقَبْلِكَbefore youqablikaإِلَّاexceptillāرِجَالًۭاmenrijālanنُّوحِىٓWe revealednūḥīإِلَيْهِمْ ۚto themilayhimفَسْـَٔلُوٓا۟so askfasalūأَهْلَ(the) peopleahlaٱلذِّكْرِ(of) the Reminderl-dhik'riإِنifinكُنتُمْyoukuntumلَا(do) notlāتَعْلَمُونَknowtaʿlamūna٤٣
And We sent not before you except men to whom We revealed [Our message]. So ask the people of the message [i.e., former scriptures] if you do not know.
١٦:٤٤
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِWith the clear proofsbil-bayinātiوَٱلزُّبُرِ ۗand the Bookswal-zuburiوَأَنزَلْنَآAnd We sent downwa-anzalnāإِلَيْكَto youilaykaٱلذِّكْرَthe Remembrancel-dhik'raلِتُبَيِّنَthat you may make clearlitubayyinaلِلنَّاسِto the mankindlilnnāsiمَاwhatmāنُزِّلَhas been sent downnuzzilaإِلَيْهِمْto themilayhimوَلَعَلَّهُمْand that they maywalaʿallahumيَتَفَكَّرُونَreflectyatafakkarūna٤٤
[We sent them] with clear proofs and written ordinances. And We revealed to you the message [i.e., the Qur’ān] that you may make clear to the people what was sent down to them and that they might give thought.
١٦:٤٥
أَفَأَمِنَDo then feel secureafa-aminaٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaمَكَرُوا۟plottedmakarūٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِthe evil deedsl-sayiātiأَنthatanيَخْسِفَAllah will caveyakhsifaٱللَّهُAllah will cavel-lahuبِهِمُwith thembihimuٱلْأَرْضَthe earthl-arḍaأَوْorawيَأْتِيَهُمُwill come to themyatiyahumuٱلْعَذَابُthe punishmentl-ʿadhābuمِنْfromminحَيْثُwhereḥaythuلَاnotlāيَشْعُرُونَthey perceiveyashʿurūna٤٥
Then, do those who have planned evil deeds feel secure that Allāh will not cause the earth to swallow them or that the punishment will not come upon them from where they do not perceive?
١٦:٤٦
أَوْOrawيَأْخُذَهُمْthat He may seize themyakhudhahumفِىinfīتَقَلُّبِهِمْtheir going to and frotaqallubihimفَمَاthen notfamāهُمtheyhumبِمُعْجِزِينَwill be able to escapebimuʿ'jizīna٤٦
Or that He would not seize them during their [usual] activity, and they could not cause failure [i.e., escape from Him]?
١٦:٤٧
أَوْOrawيَأْخُذَهُمْthat He may seize themyakhudhahumعَلَىٰwithʿalāتَخَوُّفٍۢa gradual wastingtakhawwufinفَإِنَّBut indeedfa-innaرَبَّكُمْyour Lordrabbakumلَرَءُوفٌۭ(is) surely Full of KindnesslaraūfunرَّحِيمٌMost Mercifulraḥīmun٤٧
Or that He would not seize them gradually [in a state of dread]? But indeed, your Lord is Kind and Merciful.
١٦:٤٨
أَوَلَمْHave notawalamيَرَوْا۟they seenyarawإِلَىٰ[towards]ilāمَاwhatmāخَلَقَAllah has createdkhalaqaٱللَّهُAllah has createdl-lahuمِنfromminشَىْءٍۢa thingshayinيَتَفَيَّؤُا۟Inclineyatafayya-uظِلَـٰلُهُۥtheir shadowsẓilāluhuعَنِtoʿaniٱلْيَمِينِthe rightl-yamīniوَٱلشَّمَآئِلِand to the leftwal-shamāiliسُجَّدًۭاprostratingsujjadanلِّلَّهِto Allahlillahiوَهُمْwhile theywahumدَٰخِرُونَ(are) humbledākhirūna٤٨
Have they not considered what things Allāh has created? Their shadows incline to the right and to the left, prostrating to Allāh, while they [i.e., those creations] are humble.
١٦:٤٩
وَلِلَّهِAnd to Allahwalillahiيَسْجُدُprostrateyasjuduمَاwhatevermāفِى(is) infīٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِthe heavensl-samāwātiوَمَاand whateverwamāفِى(is) infīٱلْأَرْضِthe earthl-arḍiمِنofminدَآبَّةٍۢmoving creaturesdābbatinوَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُand the Angelswal-malāikatuوَهُمْand theywahumلَا(are) notlāيَسْتَكْبِرُونَarrogantyastakbirūna٤٩
And to Allāh prostrates whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth of creatures, and the angels [as well], and they are not arrogant.
١٦:٥٠
يَخَافُونَThey fearyakhāfūnaرَبَّهُمtheir Lordrabbahumمِّنabove themminفَوْقِهِمْabove themfawqihimوَيَفْعَلُونَand they dowayafʿalūnaمَاwhatmāيُؤْمَرُونَ ۩they are commandedyu'marūna٥٠
They fear their Lord above them, and they do what they are commanded.
١٦:٥١
۞ وَقَالَAnd Allah has saidwaqālaٱللَّهُAnd Allah has saidl-lahuلَا(Do) notlāتَتَّخِذُوٓا۟taketattakhidhūإِلَـٰهَيْنِ[two] godsilāhayniٱثْنَيْنِ ۖtwoith'nayniإِنَّمَاonlyinnamāهُوَHehuwaإِلَـٰهٌۭ(is) Godilāhunوَٰحِدٌۭ ۖOnewāḥidunفَإِيَّـٰىَso Me Alonefa-iyyāyaفَٱرْهَبُونِyou fear [Me]fa-ir'habūni٥١
And Allāh has said, "Do not take for yourselves two deities. He [i.e., Allāh] is but one God, so fear only Me."
١٦:٥٢
وَلَهُۥAnd to Him (belongs)walahuمَاwhatevermāفِى(is) infīٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِthe heavensl-samāwātiوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthwal-arḍiوَلَهُand to Himwalahuٱلدِّينُ(is due) the worshipl-dīnuوَاصِبًا ۚconstantlywāṣibanأَفَغَيْرَThen is it other (than)afaghayraٱللَّهِAllahl-lahiتَتَّقُونَyou feartattaqūna٥٢
And to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and to Him is [due] worship constantly. Then is it other than Allāh that you fear?
١٦:٥٣
وَمَاAnd whateverwamāبِكُمyou havebikumمِّنofminنِّعْمَةٍۢfavorniʿ'matinفَمِنَ(is) fromfaminaٱللَّهِ ۖAllahl-lahiثُمَّThenthummaإِذَاwhenidhāمَسَّكُمُtouches youmassakumuٱلضُّرُّthe adversityl-ḍuruفَإِلَيْهِthen to Himfa-ilayhiتَجْـَٔرُونَyou cry for helptajarūna٥٣
And whatever you have of favor - it is from Allāh. Then when adversity touches you, to Him you cry for help.
١٦:٥٤
ثُمَّThenthummaإِذَاwhenidhāكَشَفَHe removeskashafaٱلضُّرَّthe adversityl-ḍuraعَنكُمْfrom youʿankumإِذَاbeholdidhāفَرِيقٌۭA groupfarīqunمِّنكُمof youminkumبِرَبِّهِمْwith their Lordbirabbihimيُشْرِكُونَassociate othersyush'rikūna٥٤
Then when He removes the adversity from you, at once a party of you associates others with their Lord
١٦:٥٥
لِيَكْفُرُوا۟So as to denyliyakfurūبِمَآthat whichbimāءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ ۚWe have given themātaynāhumفَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ ۖThen enjoy yourselvesfatamattaʿūفَسَوْفَsoonfasawfaتَعْلَمُونَyou will knowtaʿlamūna٥٥
So they will deny what We have given them. Then enjoy yourselves, for you are going to know.
١٦:٥٦
وَيَجْعَلُونَAnd they assignwayajʿalūnaلِمَاto whatlimāلَاnotlāيَعْلَمُونَthey know yaʿlamūnaنَصِيبًۭاa portionnaṣībanمِّمَّاof whatmimmāرَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ ۗWe have provided themrazaqnāhumتَٱللَّهِBy Allahtal-lahiلَتُسْـَٔلُنَّsurely you will be askedlatus'alunnaعَمَّاabout whatʿammāكُنتُمْyou used (to)kuntumتَفْتَرُونَinventtaftarūna٥٦
And they assign to what they do not know [i.e., false deities] a portion of that which We have provided them. By Allāh, you will surely be questioned about what you used to invent.
١٦:٥٧
وَيَجْعَلُونَAnd they assignwayajʿalūnaلِلَّهِto Allahlillahiٱلْبَنَـٰتِdaughtersl-banātiسُبْحَـٰنَهُۥ ۙGlory be to Himsub'ḥānahuوَلَهُمAnd for themwalahumمَّا(is) whatmāيَشْتَهُونَthey desireyashtahūna٥٧
And they attribute to Allāh daughters - exalted is He - and for them is what they desire [i.e., sons].
١٦:٥٨
وَإِذَاAnd whenwa-idhāبُشِّرَis given good newsbushiraأَحَدُهُم(to) one of themaḥaduhumبِٱلْأُنثَىٰof a femalebil-unthāظَلَّturnsẓallaوَجْهُهُۥhis facewajhuhuمُسْوَدًّۭاdarkmus'waddanوَهُوَand hewahuwaكَظِيمٌۭsuppresses griefkaẓīmun٥٨
And when one of them is informed of [the birth of] a female, his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief.
١٦:٥٩
يَتَوَٰرَىٰHe hides himselfyatawārāمِنَfromminaٱلْقَوْمِthe peoplel-qawmiمِن(because) ofminسُوٓءِthe evilsūiمَاof whatmāبُشِّرَhe has been given good newsbushiraبِهِۦٓ ۚaboutbihiأَيُمْسِكُهُۥShould he keep itayum'sikuhuعَلَىٰinʿalāهُونٍhumiliationhūninأَمْoramيَدُسُّهُۥbury ityadussuhuفِىinfīٱلتُّرَابِ ۗthe dustl-turābiأَلَاUnquestionablyalāسَآءَevilsāaمَا(is) whatmāيَحْكُمُونَthey decideyaḥkumūna٥٩
He hides himself from the people because of the ill of which he has been informed. Should he keep it in humiliation or bury it in the ground? Unquestionably, evil is what they decide.
١٦:٦٠
لِلَّذِينَFor those wholilladhīnaلَا(do) notlāيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveyu'minūnaبِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِin the Hereafterbil-ākhiratiمَثَلُ(is) a similitudemathaluٱلسَّوْءِ ۖ(of) the evill-sawiوَلِلَّهِand for Allahwalillahiٱلْمَثَلُ(is) the similitudel-mathaluٱلْأَعْلَىٰ ۚthe Highestl-aʿlāوَهُوَAnd Hewahuwaٱلْعَزِيزُ(is) the All-Mightyl-ʿazīzuٱلْحَكِيمُAll-Wisel-ḥakīmu٦٠
For those who do not believe in the Hereafter is the description [i.e., an attribute] of evil; and for Allāh is the highest attribute. And He is Exalted in Might, the Wise.
١٦:٦١
وَلَوْAnd ifwalawيُؤَاخِذُAllah were to seizeyuākhidhuٱللَّهُAllah were to seizel-lahuٱلنَّاسَthe mankindl-nāsaبِظُلْمِهِمfor their wrongdoingbiẓul'mihimمَّاnotmāتَرَكَHe (would) have lefttarakaعَلَيْهَاupon itʿalayhāمِنanyminدَآبَّةٍۢmoving creaturedābbatinوَلَـٰكِنbutwalākinيُؤَخِّرُهُمْHe defers themyu-akhiruhumإِلَىٰٓforilāأَجَلٍۢa termajalinمُّسَمًّۭى ۖappointedmusammanفَإِذَاThen whenfa-idhāجَآءَcomesjāaأَجَلُهُمْtheir termsajaluhumلَاnotlāيَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَthey (will) remain behindyastakhirūnaسَاعَةًۭ ۖan hoursāʿatanوَلَاand notwalāيَسْتَقْدِمُونَthey can advance (it)yastaqdimūna٦١
And if Allāh were to impose blame on the people for their wrongdoing, He would not have left upon it [i.e., the earth] any creature, but He defers them for a specified term. And when their term has come, they will not remain behind an hour, nor will they precede [it].
١٦:٦٢
وَيَجْعَلُونَAnd they assignwayajʿalūnaلِلَّهِto Allahlillahiمَاwhatmāيَكْرَهُونَthey dislikeyakrahūnaوَتَصِفُand assertwataṣifuأَلْسِنَتُهُمُtheir tonguesalsinatuhumuٱلْكَذِبَthe liel-kadhibaأَنَّthatannaلَهُمُfor themlahumuٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۖ(is) the bestl-ḥus'nāلَاNolāجَرَمَdoubtjaramaأَنَّthatannaلَهُمُfor themlahumuٱلنَّارَ(is) the Firel-nāraوَأَنَّهُمand that theywa-annahumمُّفْرَطُونَ(will) be abandonedmuf'raṭūna٦٢
And they attribute to Allāh that which they dislike [i.e., daughters], and their tongues assert the lie that they will have the best [from Him]. Assuredly, they will have the Fire, and they will be [therein] neglected.
١٦:٦٣
تَٱللَّهِBy Allahtal-lahiلَقَدْcertainlylaqadأَرْسَلْنَآWe have sentarsalnāإِلَىٰٓtoilāأُمَمٍۢnationsumaminمِّنbefore youminقَبْلِكَbefore youqablikaفَزَيَّنَbut made fair-seemingfazayyanaلَهُمُto themlahumuٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُthe Shaitaanl-shayṭānuأَعْمَـٰلَهُمْtheir deedsaʿmālahumفَهُوَSo hefahuwaوَلِيُّهُمُ(is) their allywaliyyuhumuٱلْيَوْمَtodayl-yawmaوَلَهُمْand for themwalahumعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentʿadhābunأَلِيمٌۭpainfulalīmun٦٣
By Allāh, We did certainly send [messengers] to nations before you, but Satan made their deeds attractive to them. And he is their [i.e., the disbelievers] ally today [as well], and they will have a painful punishment.
١٦:٦٤
وَمَآAnd notwamāأَنزَلْنَاWe revealedanzalnāعَلَيْكَto youʿalaykaٱلْكِتَـٰبَthe Bookl-kitābaإِلَّاexceptillāلِتُبَيِّنَthat you make clearlitubayyinaلَهُمُto themlahumuٱلَّذِىthat whichalladhīٱخْتَلَفُوا۟they differedikh'talafūفِيهِ ۙin itfīhiوَهُدًۭىand (as) a guidancewahudanوَرَحْمَةًۭand mercywaraḥmatanلِّقَوْمٍۢfor a peopleliqawminيُؤْمِنُونَwho believeyu'minūna٦٤
And We have not revealed to you the Book, [O Muḥammad], except for you to make clear to them that wherein they have differed and as guidance and mercy for a people who believe.
١٦:٦٥
وَٱللَّهُAnd Allahwal-lahuأَنزَلَhas sent downanzalaمِنَfromminaٱلسَّمَآءِthe skyl-samāiمَآءًۭwatermāanفَأَحْيَاthen gives lifefa-aḥyāبِهِby itbihiٱلْأَرْضَ(to) the earthl-arḍaبَعْدَafterbaʿdaمَوْتِهَآ ۚits deathmawtihāإِنَّIndeedinnaفِىinfīذَٰلِكَthatdhālikaلَـَٔايَةًۭ(is) surely a Signlaāyatanلِّقَوْمٍۢfor a peopleliqawminيَسْمَعُونَwho listenyasmaʿūna٦٥
And Allāh has sent down rain from the sky and given life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who listen.
١٦:٦٦
وَإِنَّAnd indeedwa-innaلَكُمْfor youlakumفِىinfīٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِthe cattlel-anʿāmiلَعِبْرَةًۭ ۖ(is) a lessonlaʿib'ratanنُّسْقِيكُمWe give you to drinknus'qīkumمِّمَّاfrom whatmimmāفِى(is) infīبُطُونِهِۦtheir belliesbuṭūnihiمِنۢfromminبَيْنِbetweenbayniفَرْثٍۢbowelsfarthinوَدَمٍۢand bloodwadaminلَّبَنًاmilklabananخَالِصًۭاpurekhāliṣanسَآئِغًۭاpalatablesāighanلِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَto the drinkerslilshāribīna٦٦
And indeed, for you in grazing livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from what is in their bellies - between excretion and blood - pure milk, palatable to drinkers.
١٦:٦٧
وَمِنAnd fromwaminثَمَرَٰتِfruitsthamarātiٱلنَّخِيلِthe date-palml-nakhīliوَٱلْأَعْنَـٰبِand the grapeswal-aʿnābiتَتَّخِذُونَyou taketattakhidhūnaمِنْهُfrom itmin'huسَكَرًۭاintoxicantsakaranوَرِزْقًاand a provisionwariz'qanحَسَنًا ۗgoodḥasananإِنَّIndeedinnaفِىinfīذَٰلِكَthatdhālikaلَـَٔايَةًۭ(is) surely a Signlaāyatanلِّقَوْمٍۢfor a peopleliqawminيَعْقِلُونَwho use reasonyaʿqilūna٦٧
And from the fruits of the palm trees and grapevines you take intoxicant and good provision. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who reason.
١٦:٦٨
وَأَوْحَىٰAnd inspiredwa-awḥāرَبُّكَyour Lordrabbukaإِلَىtoilāٱلنَّحْلِthe beel-naḥliأَنِ[that]aniٱتَّخِذِىTakeittakhidhīمِنَamongminaٱلْجِبَالِthe mountainsl-jibāliبُيُوتًۭاhousesbuyūtanوَمِنَand amongwaminaٱلشَّجَرِthe treesl-shajariوَمِمَّاand in whatwamimmāيَعْرِشُونَthey constructyaʿrishūna٦٨
And your Lord inspired to the bee, "Take for yourself among the mountains, houses [i.e., hives], and among the trees and [in] that which they construct.
١٦:٦٩
ثُمَّThenthummaكُلِىeatkulīمِنfromminكُلِّallkulliٱلثَّمَرَٰتِthe fruitsl-thamarātiفَٱسْلُكِىand followfa-us'lukīسُبُلَ(the) wayssubulaرَبِّكِ(of) your Lordrabbikiذُلُلًۭا ۚmade smoothdhululanيَخْرُجُComes forthyakhrujuمِنۢfromminبُطُونِهَاtheir belliesbuṭūnihāشَرَابٌۭa drinksharābunمُّخْتَلِفٌ(of) varyingmukh'talifunأَلْوَٰنُهُۥcolorsalwānuhuفِيهِin itfīhiشِفَآءٌۭ(is) a healingshifāonلِّلنَّاسِ ۗfor the mankindlilnnāsiإِنَّIndeedinnaفِىinfīذَٰلِكَthatdhālikaلَـَٔايَةًۭ(is) surely a Signlaāyatanلِّقَوْمٍۢfor a peopleliqawminيَتَفَكَّرُونَwho reflectyatafakkarūna٦٩
Then eat from all the fruits and follow the ways of your Lord laid down [for you]." There emerges from their bellies a drink, varying in colors, in which there is healing for people. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.
١٦:٧٠
وَٱللَّهُAnd Allahwal-lahuخَلَقَكُمْcreated youkhalaqakumثُمَّthenthummaيَتَوَفَّىٰكُمْ ۚwill cause you to dieyatawaffākumوَمِنكُمAnd among youwaminkumمَّن(is one) whomanيُرَدُّis sent backyuradduإِلَىٰٓtoilāأَرْذَلِthe worstardhaliٱلْعُمُرِ(of) the agel-ʿumuriلِكَىْso thatlikayلَاnotlāيَعْلَمَhe will knowyaʿlamaبَعْدَafterbaʿdaعِلْمٍۢknowledgeʿil'minشَيْـًٔا ۚa thingshayanإِنَّIndeedinnaٱللَّهَAllahl-lahaعَلِيمٌۭ(is) All-KnowingʿalīmunقَدِيرٌۭAll-Powerfulqadīrun٧٠
And Allāh created you; then He will take you in death. And among you is he who is reversed to the most decrepit [old] age so that he will not know, after [having had] knowledge, a thing. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing and Competent.
١٦:٧١
وَٱللَّهُAnd Allahwal-lahuفَضَّلَhas favoredfaḍḍalaبَعْضَكُمْsome of youbaʿḍakumعَلَىٰoverʿalāبَعْضٍۢothersbaʿḍinفِىinfīٱلرِّزْقِ ۚ[the] provisionl-riz'qiفَمَاBut notfamāٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaفُضِّلُوا۟were favoredfuḍḍilūبِرَآدِّىwould hand overbirāddīرِزْقِهِمْtheir provisionriz'qihimعَلَىٰtoʿalāمَاwhommāمَلَكَتْpossessmalakatأَيْمَـٰنُهُمْtheir right handsaymānuhumفَهُمْso (that) theyfahumفِيهِ(are) in itfīhiسَوَآءٌ ۚequalsawāonأَفَبِنِعْمَةِThen is it the Favorafabiniʿ'matiٱللَّهِof Allahl-lahiيَجْحَدُونَthey rejectyajḥadūna٧١
And Allāh has favored some of you over others in provision. But those who were favored [i.e., given more] would not hand over their provision to those whom their right hands possess [i.e., slaves] so they would be equal to them therein. Then is it the favor of Allāh they reject?
١٦:٧٢
وَٱللَّهُAnd Allahwal-lahuجَعَلَ(has) madejaʿalaلَكُمfor youlakumمِّنْfromminأَنفُسِكُمْyourselvesanfusikumأَزْوَٰجًۭاspousesazwājanوَجَعَلَand has madewajaʿalaلَكُمfor youlakumمِّنْfromminأَزْوَٰجِكُمyour spousesazwājikumبَنِينَsonsbanīnaوَحَفَدَةًۭand grandsonswaḥafadatanوَرَزَقَكُمand has provided for youwarazaqakumمِّنَfromminaٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ ۚthe good thingsl-ṭayibātiأَفَبِٱلْبَـٰطِلِThen in falsehood doafabil-bāṭiliيُؤْمِنُونَthey believeyu'minūnaوَبِنِعْمَتِand the Favorwabiniʿ'matiٱللَّهِof Allahl-lahiهُمْtheyhumيَكْفُرُونَdisbelieveyakfurūna٧٢
And Allāh has made for you from yourselves mates and has made for you from your mates sons and grandchildren and has provided for you from the good things. Then in falsehood do they believe and in the favor of Allāh they disbelieve?
١٦:٧٣
وَيَعْبُدُونَAnd they worshipwayaʿbudūnaمِنother thanminدُونِother thandūniٱللَّهِAllahl-lahiمَاwhichmāلَاnotlāيَمْلِكُpossessesyamlikuلَهُمْfor themlahumرِزْقًۭاany provisionriz'qanمِّنَfromminaٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِthe heavensl-samāwātiوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthwal-arḍiشَيْـًۭٔا[anything]shayanوَلَاand notwalāيَسْتَطِيعُونَthey are ableyastaṭīʿūna٧٣
And they worship besides Allāh that which does not possess for them [the power of] provision from the heavens and the earth at all, and [in fact], they are unable.
١٦:٧٤
فَلَاSo (do) notfalāتَضْرِبُوا۟put forthtaḍribūلِلَّهِfor Allahlillahiٱلْأَمْثَالَ ۚthe similitudel-amthālaإِنَّIndeedinnaٱللَّهَAllahl-lahaيَعْلَمُknowsyaʿlamuوَأَنتُمْand youwa-antumلَا(do) notlāتَعْلَمُونَknowtaʿlamūna٧٤
So do not assert similarities to Allāh. Indeed, Allāh knows and you do not know.
١٦:٧٥
۞ ضَرَبَAllah sets forthḍarabaٱللَّهُAllah sets forthl-lahuمَثَلًاthe examplemathalanعَبْدًۭا(of) a slaveʿabdanمَّمْلُوكًۭا(who is) ownedmamlūkanلَّاnotlāيَقْدِرُhe has poweryaqdiruعَلَىٰonʿalāشَىْءٍۢanythingshayinوَمَنand (one) whomwamanرَّزَقْنَـٰهُWe provided himrazaqnāhuمِنَّاfrom Usminnāرِزْقًاa provisionriz'qanحَسَنًۭاgoodḥasananفَهُوَso hefahuwaيُنفِقُspendsyunfiquمِنْهُfrom itmin'huسِرًّۭاsecretlysirranوَجَهْرًا ۖand publiclywajahranهَلْCanhalيَسْتَوُۥنَ ۚthey be equalyastawūnaٱلْحَمْدُAll praisel-ḥamduلِلَّهِ ۚ(is) for AllahlillahiبَلْNaybalأَكْثَرُهُمْbut most of themaktharuhumلَا(do) notlāيَعْلَمُونَknowyaʿlamūna٧٥
Allāh presents an example: a slave [who is] owned and unable to do a thing and he to whom We have provided from Us good provision, so he spends from it secretly and publicly. Can they be equal? Praise to Allāh! But most of them do not know.
١٦:٧٦
وَضَرَبَAnd Allah sets forthwaḍarabaٱللَّهُAnd Allah sets forthl-lahuمَثَلًۭاan examplemathalanرَّجُلَيْنِ(of) two menrajulayniأَحَدُهُمَآone of themaḥaduhumāأَبْكَمُ(is) dumbabkamuلَاnotlāيَقْدِرُhe has poweryaqdiruعَلَىٰonʿalāشَىْءٍۢanythingshayinوَهُوَwhile hewahuwaكَلٌّ(is) a burdenkallunعَلَىٰonʿalāمَوْلَىٰهُhis mastermawlāhuأَيْنَمَاWhereveraynamāيُوَجِّههُّhe directs himyuwajjihhuلَاnotlāيَأْتِhe comesyatiبِخَيْرٍ ۖwith any goodbikhayrinهَلْIshalيَسْتَوِىequalyastawīهُوَhehuwaوَمَنand (the one) whowamanيَأْمُرُcommandsyamuruبِٱلْعَدْلِ ۙ[of] justicebil-ʿadliوَهُوَand hewahuwaعَلَىٰ(is) onʿalāصِرَٰطٍۢa pathṣirāṭinمُّسْتَقِيمٍۢstraightmus'taqīmin٧٦
And Allāh presents an example of two men, one of them dumb and unable to do a thing, while he is a burden to his guardian. Wherever he directs him, he brings no good. Is he equal to one who commands justice, while he is on a straight path?
١٦:٧٧
وَلِلَّهِAnd to Allah (belongs)walillahiغَيْبُ(the) unseenghaybuٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensl-samāwātiوَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚand the earthwal-arḍiوَمَآAnd notwamāأَمْرُ(is the) matteramruٱلسَّاعَةِ(of) the Hourl-sāʿatiإِلَّاbutillāكَلَمْحِas a twinklingkalamḥiٱلْبَصَرِ(of) the eyel-baṣariأَوْorawهُوَithuwaأَقْرَبُ ۚ(is) neareraqrabuإِنَّIndeedinnaٱللَّهَAllahl-lahaعَلَىٰonʿalāكُلِّeverykulliشَىْءٍۢthingshayinقَدِيرٌۭ(is) All-Powerfulqadīrun٧٧
And to Allāh belongs the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth. And the command for the Hour is not but as a glance of the eye or even nearer. Indeed, Allāh is over all things competent.
١٦:٧٨
وَٱللَّهُAnd Allahwal-lahuأَخْرَجَكُمbrought you forthakhrajakumمِّنۢfromminبُطُونِthe wombsbuṭūniأُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ(of) your mothersummahātikumلَاnotlāتَعْلَمُونَknowingtaʿlamūnaشَيْـًۭٔاanythingshayanوَجَعَلَand madewajaʿalaلَكُمُfor youlakumuٱلسَّمْعَthe hearingl-samʿaوَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَand the sightwal-abṣāraوَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۙand the heartswal-afidataلَعَلَّكُمْso that you maylaʿallakumتَشْكُرُونَgive thankstashkurūna٧٨
And Allāh has extracted you from the wombs of your mothers not knowing a thing, and He made for you hearing and vision and hearts [i.e., intellect] that perhaps you would be grateful.
١٦:٧٩
أَلَمْDo notalamيَرَوْا۟they seeyarawإِلَىtowardsilāٱلطَّيْرِthe birdsl-ṭayriمُسَخَّرَٰتٍۢcontrolledmusakharātinفِىinfīجَوِّthe midstjawwiٱلسَّمَآءِ(of) the skyl-samāiمَاNonemāيُمْسِكُهُنَّholds them upyum'sikuhunnaإِلَّاexceptillāٱللَّهُ ۗAllahl-lahuإِنَّIndeedinnaفِىinfīذَٰلِكَthatdhālikaلَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ(are) Signslaāyātinلِّقَوْمٍۢfor a peopleliqawminيُؤْمِنُونَwho believeyu'minūna٧٩
Do they not see the birds controlled in the atmosphere of the sky? None holds them up except Allāh. Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.
١٦:٨٠
وَٱللَّهُAnd Allahwal-lahuجَعَلَ(has) madejaʿalaلَكُمfor youlakumمِّنۢ[from]minبُيُوتِكُمْyour homesbuyūtikumسَكَنًۭاa resting placesakananوَجَعَلَand madewajaʿalaلَكُمfor youlakumمِّنfromminجُلُودِthe hidesjulūdiٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ(of) the cattlel-anʿāmiبُيُوتًۭاtentsbuyūtanتَسْتَخِفُّونَهَاwhich you find lighttastakhiffūnahāيَوْمَ(on) the dayyawmaظَعْنِكُمْ(of) your travelẓaʿnikumوَيَوْمَand the daywayawmaإِقَامَتِكُمْ ۙ(of) your encampmentiqāmatikumوَمِنْand fromwaminأَصْوَافِهَاtheir woolaṣwāfihāوَأَوْبَارِهَاand their furwa-awbārihāوَأَشْعَارِهَآand their hairwa-ashʿārihāأَثَـٰثًۭا(is) furnishingathāthanوَمَتَـٰعًاand a provisionwamatāʿanإِلَىٰforilāحِينٍۢa timeḥīnin٨٠
And Allāh has made for you from your homes a place of rest and made for you from the hides of the animals tents which you find light on your day of travel and your day of encampment; and from their wool, fur and hair is furnishing and enjoyment [i.e., provision] for a time.
١٦:٨١
وَٱللَّهُAnd Allahwal-lahuجَعَلَ(has) madejaʿalaلَكُمfor youlakumمِّمَّاfrom whatmimmāخَلَقَHe createdkhalaqaظِلَـٰلًۭاshadesẓilālanوَجَعَلَand (has) madewajaʿalaلَكُمfor youlakumمِّنَfromminaٱلْجِبَالِthe mountainsl-jibāliأَكْنَـٰنًۭاsheltersaknānanوَجَعَلَand (has) madewajaʿalaلَكُمْfor youlakumسَرَٰبِيلَgarmentssarābīlaتَقِيكُمُto protect youtaqīkumuٱلْحَرَّ(from) the heatl-ḥaraوَسَرَٰبِيلَand garmentswasarābīlaتَقِيكُمto protect youtaqīkumبَأْسَكُمْ ۚfrom your (mutual) violencebasakumكَذَٰلِكَThuskadhālikaيُتِمُّHe completesyutimmuنِعْمَتَهُۥHis Favorniʿ'matahuعَلَيْكُمْupon youʿalaykumلَعَلَّكُمْso that you maylaʿallakumتُسْلِمُونَsubmittus'limūna٨١
And Allāh has made for you, from that which He has created, shadows [i.e., shade] and has made for you from the mountains, shelters and has made for you garments which protect you from the heat and garments [i.e., coats of mail] which protect you from your [enemy in] battle. Thus does He complete His favor upon you that you might submit [to Him].
١٦:٨٢
فَإِنThen, iffa-inتَوَلَّوْا۟they turn awaytawallawفَإِنَّمَاthen onlyfa-innamāعَلَيْكَupon youʿalaykaٱلْبَلَـٰغُ(is) the conveyancel-balāghuٱلْمُبِينُthe clearl-mubīnu٨٢
But if they turn away, [O Muḥammad] - then only upon you is [responsibility for] clear notification.
١٦:٨٣
يَعْرِفُونَThey recognizeyaʿrifūnaنِعْمَتَ(the) Favorniʿ'mataٱللَّهِ(of) Allahl-lahiثُمَّthenthummaيُنكِرُونَهَاthey deny ityunkirūnahāوَأَكْثَرُهُمُAnd most of themwa-aktharuhumuٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ(are) the disbelieversl-kāfirūna٨٣
They recognize the favor of Allāh; then they deny it. And most of them are disbelievers.
١٦:٨٤
وَيَوْمَAnd the DaywayawmaنَبْعَثُWe will resurrectnabʿathuمِنfromminكُلِّeverykulliأُمَّةٍۢnationummatinشَهِيدًۭاa witnessshahīdanثُمَّthenthummaلَاnotlāيُؤْذَنُwill be permittedyu'dhanuلِلَّذِينَto those wholilladhīnaكَفَرُوا۟disbelievedkafarūوَلَاand notwalāهُمْtheyhumيُسْتَعْتَبُونَwill be asked to make amendsyus'taʿtabūna٨٤
And [mention] the Day when We will resurrect from every nation a witness [i.e., their prophet]. Then it will not be permitted to the disbelievers [to apologize or make excuses], nor will they be asked to appease [Allāh].
١٦:٨٥
وَإِذَاAnd whenwa-idhāرَءَا(will) seeraāٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaظَلَمُوا۟wrongedẓalamūٱلْعَذَابَthe punishmentl-ʿadhābaفَلَاthen notfalāيُخَفَّفُit will be lightenedyukhaffafuعَنْهُمْfor themʿanhumوَلَاand notwalāهُمْtheyhumيُنظَرُونَwill be given respiteyunẓarūna٨٥
And when those who wronged see the punishment, it will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved.
١٦:٨٦
وَإِذَاAnd whenwa-idhāرَءَا(will) seeraāٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaأَشْرَكُوا۟associated partners with Allahashrakūشُرَكَآءَهُمْtheir partnersshurakāahumقَالُوا۟They will sayqālūرَبَّنَاOur Lordrabbanāهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِthesehāulāiشُرَكَآؤُنَا(are) our partnersshurakāunāٱلَّذِينَthose whomalladhīnaكُنَّاwe used tokunnāنَدْعُوا۟invokenadʿūمِنbesides Youminدُونِكَ ۖbesides Youdūnikaفَأَلْقَوْا۟But they (will) throw backfa-alqawإِلَيْهِمُat themilayhimuٱلْقَوْلَ(their) wordl-qawlaإِنَّكُمْIndeed, youinnakumلَكَـٰذِبُونَ(are) surely liarslakādhibūna٨٦
And when those who associated others with Allāh see their "partners," they will say, "Our Lord, these are our partners [to You] whom we used to invoke [in worship] besides You." But they will throw at them the statement, "Indeed, you are liars."
١٦:٨٧
وَأَلْقَوْا۟And they (will) offerwa-alqawإِلَىtoilāٱللَّهِAllahl-lahiيَوْمَئِذٍ(on) that Dayyawma-idhinٱلسَّلَمَ ۖthe submissionl-salamaوَضَلَّand (is) lostwaḍallaعَنْهُمfrom themʿanhumمَّاwhatmāكَانُوا۟they used (to)kānūيَفْتَرُونَinventyaftarūna٨٧
And they will impart to Allāh that Day [their] submission, and lost from them is what they used to invent.
١٦:٨٨
ٱلَّذِينَAnd those whoalladhīnaكَفَرُوا۟disbelievedkafarūوَصَدُّوا۟and hinderedwaṣaddūعَنfromʿanسَبِيلِ(the) waysabīliٱللَّهِ(of) Allahl-lahiزِدْنَـٰهُمْWe will increase themzid'nāhumعَذَابًۭا(in) punishmentʿadhābanفَوْقَoverfawqaٱلْعَذَابِpunishmentl-ʿadhābiبِمَاbecausebimāكَانُوا۟they used (to)kānūيُفْسِدُونَspread corruptionyuf'sidūna٨٨
Those who disbelieved and averted [others] from the way of Allāh - We will increase them in punishment over [their] punishment for what corruption they were causing.
١٦:٨٩
وَيَوْمَAnd the DaywayawmaنَبْعَثُWe will resurrectnabʿathuفِىamongfīكُلِّeverykulliأُمَّةٍۢnationummatinشَهِيدًاa witnessshahīdanعَلَيْهِمover themʿalayhimمِّنْfromminأَنفُسِهِمْ ۖthemselvesanfusihimوَجِئْنَاAnd We (will) bringwaji'nāبِكَyoubikaشَهِيدًا(as) a witnessshahīdanعَلَىٰoverʿalāهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ۚthesehāulāiوَنَزَّلْنَاAnd We sent downwanazzalnāعَلَيْكَto youʿalaykaٱلْكِتَـٰبَthe Bookl-kitābaتِبْيَـٰنًۭا(as) a clarificationtib'yānanلِّكُلِّof everylikulliشَىْءٍۢthingshayinوَهُدًۭىand a guidancewahudanوَرَحْمَةًۭand mercywaraḥmatanوَبُشْرَىٰand glad tidingswabush'rāلِلْمُسْلِمِينَfor the Muslimslil'mus'limīna٨٩
And [mention] the Day when We will resurrect among every nation a witness over them from themselves [i.e., their prophet]. And We will bring you, [O Muḥammad], as a witness over these [i.e., your nation]. And We have sent down to you the Book as clarification for all things and as guidance and mercy and good tidings for the Muslims.
١٦:٩٠
۞ إِنَّIndeedinnaٱللَّهَAllahl-lahaيَأْمُرُcommandsyamuruبِٱلْعَدْلِjusticebil-ʿadliوَٱلْإِحْسَـٰنِand the goodwal-iḥ'sāniوَإِيتَآئِand givingwaītāiذِى(to) relativesdhīٱلْقُرْبَىٰ(to) relativesl-qur'bāوَيَنْهَىٰand forbidswayanhāعَنِ[from]ʿaniٱلْفَحْشَآءِthe immoralityl-faḥshāiوَٱلْمُنكَرِand the badwal-munkariوَٱلْبَغْىِ ۚand the oppressionwal-baghyiيَعِظُكُمْHe admonishes youyaʿiẓukumلَعَلَّكُمْso that you maylaʿallakumتَذَكَّرُونَtake heedtadhakkarūna٩٠
Indeed, Allāh orders justice and good conduct and giving [help] to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.
١٦:٩١
وَأَوْفُوا۟And fulfilwa-awfūبِعَهْدِthe covenantbiʿahdiٱللَّهِ(of) Allahl-lahiإِذَاwhenidhāعَـٰهَدتُّمْyou have taken a covenantʿāhadttumوَلَاand (do) notwalāتَنقُضُوا۟breaktanquḍūٱلْأَيْمَـٰنَoathsl-aymānaبَعْدَafterbaʿdaتَوْكِيدِهَاtheir confirmationtawkīdihāوَقَدْwhile verilywaqadجَعَلْتُمُyou have madejaʿaltumuٱللَّهَAllahl-lahaعَلَيْكُمْover youʿalaykumكَفِيلًا ۚa suretykafīlanإِنَّIndeedinnaٱللَّهَAllahl-lahaيَعْلَمُknowsyaʿlamuمَاwhatmāتَفْعَلُونَyou dotafʿalūna٩١
And fulfill the covenant of Allāh when you have taken it, [O believers], and do not break oaths after their confirmation while you have made Allāh, over you, a security [i.e., witness]. Indeed, Allāh knows what you do.
١٦:٩٢
وَلَاAnd (do) notwalāتَكُونُوا۟betakūnūكَٱلَّتِىlike her whoka-allatīنَقَضَتْuntwistsnaqaḍatغَزْلَهَاher spun yarnghazlahāمِنۢafterminبَعْدِafterbaʿdiقُوَّةٍstrengthquwwatinأَنكَـٰثًۭا(into) untwisted strandsankāthanتَتَّخِذُونَyou taketattakhidhūnaأَيْمَـٰنَكُمْyour oathsaymānakumدَخَلًۢا(as) a deceptiondakhalanبَيْنَكُمْbetween youbaynakumأَنbecauseanتَكُونَistakūnaأُمَّةٌa communityummatunهِىَ[it]hiyaأَرْبَىٰmore numerousarbāمِنْthanminأُمَّةٍ ۚ(another) communityummatinإِنَّمَاOnlyinnamāيَبْلُوكُمُAllah tests youyablūkumuٱللَّهُAllah tests youl-lahuبِهِۦ ۚby itbihiوَلَيُبَيِّنَنَّAnd He will make clearwalayubayyinannaلَكُمْto youlakumيَوْمَ(on) the Dayyawmaٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ(of) the Resurrectionl-qiyāmatiمَاwhatmāكُنتُمْyou used (to)kuntumفِيهِin itfīhiتَخْتَلِفُونَdiffertakhtalifūna٩٢
And do not be like she who untwisted her spun thread after it was strong [by] taking your oaths as [means of] deceit between you because one community is more plentiful [in number or wealth] than another community. Allāh only tries you thereby. And He will surely make clear to you on the Day of Resurrection that over which you used to differ.
١٦:٩٣
وَلَوْAnd ifwalawشَآءَAllah (had) willedshāaٱللَّهُAllah (had) willedl-lahuلَجَعَلَكُمْsurely He (could) have made youlajaʿalakumأُمَّةًۭa nationummatanوَٰحِدَةًۭonewāḥidatanوَلَـٰكِنbutwalākinيُضِلُّHe lets go astrayyuḍilluمَنwhommanيَشَآءُHe willsyashāuوَيَهْدِىand guideswayahdīمَنwhommanيَشَآءُ ۚHe willsyashāuوَلَتُسْـَٔلُنَّAnd surely you will be questionedwalatus'alunnaعَمَّاabout whatʿammāكُنتُمْyou used (to)kuntumتَعْمَلُونَdotaʿmalūna٩٣
And if Allāh had willed, He could have made you [of] one religion, but He sends astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And you will surely be questioned about what you used to do.
١٦:٩٤
وَلَاAnd (do) notwalāتَتَّخِذُوٓا۟taketattakhidhūأَيْمَـٰنَكُمْyour oathsaymānakumدَخَلًۢا(as) a deceptiondakhalanبَيْنَكُمْbetween youbaynakumفَتَزِلَّlest, should slipfatazillaقَدَمٌۢa footqadamunبَعْدَafterbaʿdaثُبُوتِهَاit is firmly plantedthubūtihāوَتَذُوقُوا۟and you would tastewatadhūqūٱلسُّوٓءَthe evill-sūaبِمَاfor whatbimāصَدَدتُّمْyou hinderedṣadadttumعَنfromʿanسَبِيلِ(the) waysabīliٱللَّهِ ۖ(of) Allahl-lahiوَلَكُمْand for youwalakumعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentʿadhābunعَظِيمٌۭgreatʿaẓīmun٩٤
And do not take your oaths as [means of] deceit between you, lest a foot slip after it was [once] firm, and you would taste evil [in this world] for what [people] you diverted from the way of Allāh, and you would have [in the Hereafter] a great punishment.
١٦:٩٥
وَلَاAnd (do) notwalāتَشْتَرُوا۟exchangetashtarūبِعَهْدِthe covenantbiʿahdiٱللَّهِ(of) Allahl-lahiثَمَنًۭا(for) a pricethamananقَلِيلًا ۚlittleqalīlanإِنَّمَاIndeed, whatinnamāعِندَ(is) withʿindaٱللَّهِAllahl-lahiهُوَithuwaخَيْرٌۭ(is) betterkhayrunلَّكُمْfor youlakumإِنifinكُنتُمْyou were (to)kuntumتَعْلَمُونَknowtaʿlamūna٩٥
And do not exchange the covenant of Allāh for a small price. Indeed, what is with Allāh is best for you, if only you could know.
١٦:٩٦
مَاWhatevermāعِندَكُمْ(is) with youʿindakumيَنفَدُ ۖwill be exhaustedyanfaduوَمَاand whateverwamāعِندَ(is) withʿindaٱللَّهِAllahl-lahiبَاقٍۢ ۗ(will) be remainingbāqinوَلَنَجْزِيَنَّAnd surely We will paywalanajziyannaٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaصَبَرُوٓا۟(are) patientṣabarūأَجْرَهُمtheir rewardajrahumبِأَحْسَنِto (the) bestbi-aḥsaniمَا(of) whatmāكَانُوا۟they used (to)kānūيَعْمَلُونَdoyaʿmalūna٩٦
Whatever you have will end, but what Allāh has is lasting. And We will surely give those who were patient their reward according to the best of what they used to do.
١٦:٩٧
مَنْWhoevermanعَمِلَdoesʿamilaصَـٰلِحًۭاrighteous deedsṣāliḥanمِّنwhetherminذَكَرٍmaledhakarinأَوْorawأُنثَىٰfemaleunthāوَهُوَwhile hewahuwaمُؤْمِنٌۭ(is) a believermu'minunفَلَنُحْيِيَنَّهُۥthen surely We will give him lifefalanuḥ'yiyannahuحَيَوٰةًۭa lifeḥayatanطَيِّبَةًۭ ۖgoodṭayyibatanوَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْand We will pay themwalanajziyannahumأَجْرَهُمtheir rewardajrahumبِأَحْسَنِto (the) bestbi-aḥsaniمَاof whatmāكَانُوا۟they used (to)kānūيَعْمَلُونَdoyaʿmalūna٩٧
Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - We will surely cause him to live a good life, and We will surely give them their reward [in the Hereafter] according to the best of what they used to do.
١٦:٩٨
فَإِذَاSo whenfa-idhāقَرَأْتَyou reciteqarataٱلْقُرْءَانَthe Quranl-qur'ānaفَٱسْتَعِذْseek refugefa-is'taʿidhبِٱللَّهِin Allahbil-lahiمِنَfromminaٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِthe Shaitaanl-shayṭāniٱلرَّجِيمِthe accursedl-rajīmi٩٨
So when you recite the Qur’ān, [first] seek refuge in Allāh from Satan, the expelled [from His mercy].
١٦:٩٩
إِنَّهُۥIndeed heinnahuلَيْسَnotlaysaلَهُۥfor himlahuسُلْطَـٰنٌ(is) any authoritysul'ṭānunعَلَىonʿalāٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaءَامَنُوا۟believeāmanūوَعَلَىٰand uponwaʿalāرَبِّهِمْtheir Lordrabbihimيَتَوَكَّلُونَthey put their trustyatawakkalūna٩٩
Indeed, there is for him no authority over those who have believed and rely upon their Lord.
١٦:١٠٠
إِنَّمَاOnlyinnamāسُلْطَـٰنُهُۥhis authoritysul'ṭānuhuعَلَى(is) overʿalāٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaيَتَوَلَّوْنَهُۥtake him as an allyyatawallawnahuوَٱلَّذِينَand those whowa-alladhīnaهُم[they]humبِهِۦwith Himbihiمُشْرِكُونَassociate partnersmush'rikūna١٠٠
His authority is only over those who take him as an ally and those who through him associate others with Allāh.
١٦:١٠١
وَإِذَاAnd whenwa-idhāبَدَّلْنَآWe substitutebaddalnāءَايَةًۭa Verseāyatanمَّكَانَ(in) placemakānaءَايَةٍۢ ۙ(of) a Verseāyatinوَٱللَّهُand Allah wal-lahuأَعْلَمُ(is) most knowingaʿlamuبِمَاof whatbimāيُنَزِّلُHe sends downyunazziluقَالُوٓا۟they sayqālūإِنَّمَآOnlyinnamāأَنتَyouantaمُفْتَرٍۭ ۚ(are) an inventormuf'tarinبَلْNaybalأَكْثَرُهُمْmost of themaktharuhumلَا(do) notlāيَعْلَمُونَknowyaʿlamūna١٠١
And when We substitute a verse in place of a verse - and Allāh is most knowing of what He sends down - they say, "You, [O Muḥammad], are but an inventor [of lies]." But most of them do not know.
١٦:١٠٢
قُلْSayqulنَزَّلَهُۥHas brought it downnazzalahuرُوحُthe Holy Spiritrūḥuٱلْقُدُسِthe Holy Spiritl-qudusiمِنfromminرَّبِّكَyour Lordrabbikaبِٱلْحَقِّin truthbil-ḥaqiلِيُثَبِّتَto make firmliyuthabbitaٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaءَامَنُوا۟believeāmanūوَهُدًۭىand (as) a guidancewahudanوَبُشْرَىٰand glad tidingswabush'rāلِلْمُسْلِمِينَto the Muslimslil'mus'limīna١٠٢
Say, [O Muḥammad], "The Pure Spirit [i.e., Gabriel] has brought it down from your Lord in truth to make firm those who believe and as guidance and good tidings to the Muslims."
١٦:١٠٣
وَلَقَدْAnd certainlywalaqadنَعْلَمُWe knownaʿlamuأَنَّهُمْthat theyannahumيَقُولُونَsayyaqūlūnaإِنَّمَاOnlyinnamāيُعَلِّمُهُۥteaches himyuʿallimuhuبَشَرٌۭ ۗa human beingbasharunلِّسَانُ(The) tonguelisānuٱلَّذِى(of) the onealladhīيُلْحِدُونَthey referyul'ḥidūnaإِلَيْهِto himilayhiأَعْجَمِىٌّۭ(is) foreignaʿjamiyyunوَهَـٰذَاwhile thiswahādhāلِسَانٌ(is) a languagelisānunعَرَبِىٌّۭArabicʿarabiyyunمُّبِينٌclearmubīnun١٠٣
And We certainly know that they say, "It is only a human being who teaches him [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ)]." The tongue of the one they refer to is foreign, and this [recitation, i.e., Qur’ān] is [in] a clear Arabic language.
١٦:١٠٤
إِنَّIndeedinnaٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaلَا(do) notlāيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveyu'minūnaبِـَٔايَـٰتِin the Versesbiāyātiٱللَّهِ(of) Allahl-lahiلَاnotlāيَهْدِيهِمُAllah will guide themyahdīhimuٱللَّهُAllah will guide theml-lahuوَلَهُمْand for themwalahumعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentʿadhābunأَلِيمٌpainfulalīmun١٠٤
Indeed, those who do not believe in the verses of Allāh - Allāh will not guide them, and for them is a painful punishment.
١٦:١٠٥
إِنَّمَاOnlyinnamāيَفْتَرِىthey inventyaftarīٱلْكَذِبَthe falsehoodl-kadhibaٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaلَا(do) notlāيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveyu'minūnaبِـَٔايَـٰتِin the Versesbiāyātiٱللَّهِ ۖ(of) Allahl-lahiوَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَand those wa-ulāikaهُمُtheyhumuٱلْكَـٰذِبُونَ(are) the liarsl-kādhibūna١٠٥
They only invent falsehood who do not believe in the verses of Allāh, and it is those who are the liars.
١٦:١٠٦
مَنWhoevermanكَفَرَdisbelieveskafaraبِٱللَّهِin Allahbil-lahiمِنۢafterminبَعْدِafterbaʿdiإِيمَـٰنِهِۦٓhis beliefīmānihiإِلَّاexceptillāمَنْ(one) whomanأُكْرِهَis forceduk'rihaوَقَلْبُهُۥwhile his heartwaqalbuhuمُطْمَئِنٌّۢ(is) contentmuṭ'ma-innunبِٱلْإِيمَـٰنِwith the faithbil-īmāniوَلَـٰكِنButwalākinمَّن(one) whomanشَرَحَopenssharaḥaبِٱلْكُفْرِto disbeliefbil-kuf'riصَدْرًۭا(his) breastṣadranفَعَلَيْهِمْthen upon themfaʿalayhimغَضَبٌۭ(is) a wrathghaḍabunمِّنَofminaٱللَّهِAllahl-lahiوَلَهُمْand for themwalahumعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentʿadhābunعَظِيمٌۭgreatʿaẓīmun١٠٦
Whoever disbelieves in [i.e., denies] Allāh after his belief... except for one who is forced [to renounce his religion] while his heart is secure in faith. But those who [willingly] open their breasts to disbelief, upon them is wrath from Allāh, and for them is a great punishment;
١٦:١٠٧
ذَٰلِكَThat (is)dhālikaبِأَنَّهُمُbecausebi-annahumuٱسْتَحَبُّوا۟they preferredis'taḥabbūٱلْحَيَوٰةَthe lifel-ḥayataٱلدُّنْيَا(of) the worldl-dun'yāعَلَىoverʿalāٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِthe Hereafterl-ākhiratiوَأَنَّand thatwa-annaٱللَّهَAllahl-lahaلَا(does) notlāيَهْدِىguideyahdīٱلْقَوْمَthe peoplel-qawmaٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَthe disbelieversl-kāfirīna١٠٧
That is because they preferred the worldly life over the Hereafter and that Allāh does not guide the disbelieving people.
١٦:١٠٨
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَThoseulāikaٱلَّذِينَ(are) the ones alladhīnaطَبَعَAllah has set a sealṭabaʿaٱللَّهُAllah has set a seall-lahuعَلَىٰoverʿalāقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsqulūbihimوَسَمْعِهِمْand their hearingwasamʿihimوَأَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ ۖand their sightwa-abṣārihimوَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَAnd those wa-ulāikaهُمُthey arehumuٱلْغَـٰفِلُونَthe heedlessl-ghāfilūna١٠٨
Those are the ones over whose hearts and hearing and vision Allāh has sealed, and it is those who are the heedless.
١٦:١٠٩
لَاNolāجَرَمَdoubtjaramaأَنَّهُمْthat theyannahumفِىinfīٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِthe Hereafterl-ākhiratiهُمُ[they]humuٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ(are) the losersl-khāsirūna١٠٩
Assuredly, it is they, in the Hereafter, who will be the losers.
١٦:١١٠
ثُمَّThenthummaإِنَّindeedinnaرَبَّكَyour Lordrabbakaلِلَّذِينَto those wholilladhīnaهَاجَرُوا۟emigratedhājarūمِنۢafterminبَعْدِafterbaʿdiمَاwhatmāفُتِنُوا۟they had been put to trialsfutinūثُمَّthenthummaجَـٰهَدُوا۟strove hardjāhadūوَصَبَرُوٓا۟and were patientwaṣabarūإِنَّIndeedinnaرَبَّكَyour Lordrabbakaمِنۢafter itminبَعْدِهَاafter itbaʿdihāلَغَفُورٌۭsurely is Oft-ForgivinglaghafūrunرَّحِيمٌۭMost Mercifulraḥīmun١١٠
Then, indeed your Lord, to those who emigrated after they had been compelled [to say words of disbelief] and thereafter fought [for the cause of Allāh] and were patient - indeed, your Lord, after that, is Forgiving and Merciful
١٦:١١١
۞ يَوْمَ(On) the Dayyawmaتَأْتِى(when) will cometatīكُلُّeverykulluنَفْسٍۢsoulnafsinتُجَـٰدِلُpleadingtujādiluعَنforʿanنَّفْسِهَاitselfnafsihāوَتُوَفَّىٰand will be paid in fullwatuwaffāكُلُّeverykulluنَفْسٍۢsoulnafsinمَّاwhatmāعَمِلَتْit didʿamilatوَهُمْand theywahumلَا(will) notlāيُظْلَمُونَbe wrongedyuẓ'lamūna١١١
On the Day when every soul will come disputing [i.e., pleading] for itself, and every soul will be fully compensated for what it did, and they will not be wronged [i.e., treated unjustly].
١٦:١١٢
وَضَرَبَAnd Allah sets forthwaḍarabaٱللَّهُAnd Allah sets forthl-lahuمَثَلًۭاa similitudemathalanقَرْيَةًۭ(of) a townqaryatanكَانَتْ(that) waskānatءَامِنَةًۭsecureāminatanمُّطْمَئِنَّةًۭand contentmuṭ'ma-innatanيَأْتِيهَاcoming to ityatīhāرِزْقُهَاits provisionriz'quhāرَغَدًۭا(in) abundanceraghadanمِّنfromminكُلِّeverykulliمَكَانٍۢplacemakāninفَكَفَرَتْbut it deniedfakafaratبِأَنْعُمِ(the) Favors of Allahbi-anʿumiٱللَّهِ(the) Favors of Allahl-lahiفَأَذَٰقَهَاso Allah made it tastefa-adhāqahāٱللَّهُso Allah made it tastel-lahuلِبَاسَ(the) garblibāsaٱلْجُوعِ(of) the hungerl-jūʿiوَٱلْخَوْفِand the fearwal-khawfiبِمَاfor whatbimāكَانُوا۟they used (to)kānūيَصْنَعُونَdoyaṣnaʿūna١١٢
And Allāh presents an example: a city [i.e., Makkah] which was safe and secure, its provision coming to it in abundance from every location, but it denied the favors of Allāh. So Allāh made it taste the envelopment of hunger and fear for what they had been doing.
١٦:١١٣
وَلَقَدْAnd certainlywalaqadجَآءَهُمْcame to themjāahumرَسُولٌۭa Messengerrasūlunمِّنْهُمْfrom among themmin'humفَكَذَّبُوهُbut they denied himfakadhabūhuفَأَخَذَهُمُso seized themfa-akhadhahumuٱلْعَذَابُthe punishmentl-ʿadhābuوَهُمْwhile theywahumظَـٰلِمُونَ(were) wrongdoersẓālimūna١١٣
And there had certainly come to them a Messenger from among themselves, but they denied him; so punishment overtook them while they were wrongdoers.
١٦:١١٤
فَكُلُوا۟So eatfakulūمِمَّاof whatmimmāرَزَقَكُمُAllah has provided you razaqakumuٱللَّهُAllah has provided you l-lahuحَلَـٰلًۭاlawfulḥalālanطَيِّبًۭاand goodṭayyibanوَٱشْكُرُوا۟And be gratefulwa-ush'kurūنِعْمَتَ(for the) Favorniʿ'mataٱللَّهِ(of) Allahl-lahiإِنifinكُنتُمْ[you]kuntumإِيَّاهُHim Aloneiyyāhuتَعْبُدُونَyou worshiptaʿbudūna١١٤
Then eat of what Allāh has provided for you [which is] lawful and good. And be grateful for the favor of Allāh, if it is [indeed] Him that you worship.
١٦:١١٥
إِنَّمَاOnlyinnamāحَرَّمَHe has forbiddenḥarramaعَلَيْكُمُto youʿalaykumuٱلْمَيْتَةَthe dead animall-maytataوَٱلدَّمَand the bloodwal-damaوَلَحْمَand the fleshwalaḥmaٱلْخِنزِيرِ(of) the swinel-khinzīriوَمَآand whatwamāأُهِلَّhas been dedicateduhillaلِغَيْرِto other (than)lighayriٱللَّهِAllahl-lahiبِهِۦ ۖ[with it]bihiفَمَنِBut (if) onefamaniٱضْطُرَّ(is) forced uḍ'ṭurraغَيْرَwithout (being)ghayraبَاغٍۢdisobedientbāghinوَلَاand notwalāعَادٍۢa transgressor ʿādinفَإِنَّthen indeedfa-innaٱللَّهَAllahl-lahaغَفُورٌۭ(is) Oft-ForgivingghafūrunرَّحِيمٌۭMost Mercifulraḥīmun١١٥
He has only forbidden to you dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allāh. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit] - then indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
١٦:١١٦
وَلَاAnd (do) notwalāتَقُولُوا۟saytaqūlūلِمَاfor that whichlimāتَصِفُasserttaṣifuأَلْسِنَتُكُمُyour tonguesalsinatukumuٱلْكَذِبَthe liel-kadhibaهَـٰذَاThishādhāحَلَـٰلٌۭ(is) lawfulḥalālunوَهَـٰذَاand thiswahādhāحَرَامٌۭ(is) forbiddenḥarāmunلِّتَفْتَرُوا۟so that you inventlitaftarūعَلَىaboutʿalāٱللَّهِAllahl-lahiٱلْكَذِبَ ۚthe liel-kadhibaإِنَّIndeedinnaٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaيَفْتَرُونَinventyaftarūnaعَلَىaboutʿalāٱللَّهِAllahl-lahiٱلْكَذِبَthe liel-kadhibaلَاthey will not succeedlāيُفْلِحُونَthey will not succeedyuf'liḥūna١١٦
And do not say about what your tongues assert of untruth, "This is lawful and this is unlawful," to invent falsehood about Allāh. Indeed, those who invent falsehood about Allāh will not succeed.
١٦:١١٧
مَتَـٰعٌۭAn enjoymentmatāʿunقَلِيلٌۭlittleqalīlunوَلَهُمْand for themwalahumعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentʿadhābunأَلِيمٌۭpainfulalīmun١١٧
[It is but] a brief enjoyment, and they will have a painful punishment.
١٦:١١٨
وَعَلَىAnd towaʿalāٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaهَادُوا۟are JewshādūحَرَّمْنَاWe have forbiddenḥarramnāمَاwhatmāقَصَصْنَاWe relatedqaṣaṣnāعَلَيْكَto youʿalaykaمِنbeforeminقَبْلُ ۖbeforeqabluوَمَاAnd notwamāظَلَمْنَـٰهُمْWe wronged themẓalamnāhumوَلَـٰكِنbutwalākinكَانُوٓا۟they used (to)kānūأَنفُسَهُمْthemselvesanfusahumيَظْلِمُونَwrongyaẓlimūna١١٨
And to those who are Jews We have prohibited that which We related to you before. And We did not wrong them [thereby], but they were wronging themselves.
١٦:١١٩
ثُمَّThenthummaإِنَّindeedinnaرَبَّكَyour Lordrabbakaلِلَّذِينَto those wholilladhīnaعَمِلُوا۟didʿamilūٱلسُّوٓءَevill-sūaبِجَهَـٰلَةٍۢin ignorancebijahālatinثُمَّthenthummaتَابُوا۟repentedtābūمِنۢafterminبَعْدِafterbaʿdiذَٰلِكَthatdhālikaوَأَصْلَحُوٓا۟and corrected themselves wa-aṣlaḥūإِنَّindeedinnaرَبَّكَyour Lordrabbakaمِنۢafter thatminبَعْدِهَاafter thatbaʿdihāلَغَفُورٌۭ(is) surely Oft-ForgivinglaghafūrunرَّحِيمٌMost Mercifulraḥīmun١١٩
Then, indeed your Lord, to those who have done wrong out of ignorance and then repent after that and correct themselves - indeed, your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful.
١٦:١٢٠
إِنَّIndeedinnaإِبْرَٰهِيمَIbrahimib'rāhīmaكَانَwaskānaأُمَّةًۭa nationummatanقَانِتًۭاobedientqānitanلِّلَّهِto Allahlillahiحَنِيفًۭاuprightḥanīfanوَلَمْand notwalamيَكُhe wasyakuمِنَofminaٱلْمُشْرِكِينَthe polytheistsl-mush'rikīna١٢٠
Indeed, Abraham was a [comprehensive] leader, devoutly obedient to Allāh, inclining toward truth, and he was not of those who associate others with Allāh.
١٦:١٢١
شَاكِرًۭاThankfulshākiranلِّأَنْعُمِهِ ۚfor His favorsli-anʿumihiٱجْتَبَىٰهُHe chose himij'tabāhuوَهَدَىٰهُand guided himwahadāhuإِلَىٰtoilāصِرَٰطٍۢthe wayṣirāṭinمُّسْتَقِيمٍۢstraightmus'taqīmin١٢١
[He was] grateful for His favors. He [i.e., Allāh] chose him and guided him to a straight path.
١٦:١٢٢
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُAnd We gave himwaātaynāhuفِىinfīٱلدُّنْيَاthe worldl-dun'yāحَسَنَةًۭ ۖgoodḥasanatanوَإِنَّهُۥand indeed, hewa-innahuفِىinfīٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِthe Hereafterl-ākhiratiلَمِنَ(he) will surely (be) amonglaminaٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَthe righteousl-ṣāliḥīna١٢٢
And We gave him good in this world, and indeed, in the Hereafter he will be among the righteous.
١٦:١٢٣
ثُمَّThenthummaأَوْحَيْنَآWe revealedawḥaynāإِلَيْكَto youilaykaأَنِthataniٱتَّبِعْYou followittabiʿمِلَّةَ(the) religionmillataإِبْرَٰهِيمَ(of) Ibrahimib'rāhīmaحَنِيفًۭا ۖuprightḥanīfanوَمَاand notwamāكَانَhe waskānaمِنَofminaٱلْمُشْرِكِينَthe polytheistsl-mush'rikīna١٢٣
Then We revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], to follow the religion of Abraham, inclining toward truth; and he was not of those who associate with Allāh.
١٦:١٢٤
إِنَّمَاOnlyinnamāجُعِلَwas appointedjuʿilaٱلسَّبْتُthe Sabbathl-sabtuعَلَىforʿalāٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaٱخْتَلَفُوا۟differedikh'talafūفِيهِ ۚin itfīhiوَإِنَّAnd indeedwa-innaرَبَّكَyour Lordrabbakaلَيَحْكُمُwill surely judgelayaḥkumuبَيْنَهُمْbetween thembaynahumيَوْمَ(on) the Dayyawmaٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ(of) the Resurrectionl-qiyāmatiفِيمَاin whatfīmāكَانُوا۟they used (to)kānūفِيهِ[in it]fīhiيَخْتَلِفُونَdifferyakhtalifūna١٢٤
The sabbath was only appointed for those who differed over it. And indeed, your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which they used to differ.
١٦:١٢٥
ٱدْعُCallud'ʿuإِلَىٰtoilāسَبِيلِ(the) waysabīliرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordrabbikaبِٱلْحِكْمَةِwith the wisdombil-ḥik'matiوَٱلْمَوْعِظَةِand the instructionwal-mawʿiẓatiٱلْحَسَنَةِ ۖthe goodl-ḥasanatiوَجَـٰدِلْهُمand discuss with themwajādil'humبِٱلَّتِىin thatbi-allatīهِىَwhichhiyaأَحْسَنُ ۚ(is) bestaḥsanuإِنَّIndeedinnaرَبَّكَyour LordrabbakaهُوَHehuwaأَعْلَمُ(is) most knowingaʿlamuبِمَنof whobimanضَلَّhas strayedḍallaعَنfromʿanسَبِيلِهِۦ ۖHis waysabīlihiوَهُوَAnd Hewahuwaأَعْلَمُ(is) most knowingaʿlamuبِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَof the guided onesbil-muh'tadīna١٢٥
Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is [rightly] guided.
١٦:١٢٦
وَإِنْAnd ifwa-inعَاقَبْتُمْyou retaliateʿāqabtumفَعَاقِبُوا۟then retaliatefaʿāqibūبِمِثْلِwith the likebimith'liمَاof whatmāعُوقِبْتُمyou were afflictedʿūqib'tumبِهِۦ ۖwith [it]bihiوَلَئِنBut ifwala-inصَبَرْتُمْyou are patientṣabartumلَهُوَsurely (it) islahuwaخَيْرٌۭbetterkhayrunلِّلصَّـٰبِرِينَfor those who are patientlilṣṣābirīna١٢٦
And if you punish [an enemy, O believers], punish with an equivalent of that with which you were harmed. But if you are patient - it is better for those who are patient.
١٦:١٢٧
وَٱصْبِرْAnd be patientwa-iṣ'birوَمَاand notwamāصَبْرُكَ(is) your patienceṣabrukaإِلَّاbutillāبِٱللَّهِ ۚfrom Allahbil-lahiوَلَاAnd (do) notwalāتَحْزَنْgrievetaḥzanعَلَيْهِمْover themʿalayhimوَلَاand (do) notwalāتَكُbetakuفِىinfīضَيْقٍۢdistressḍayqinمِّمَّاfor whatmimmāيَمْكُرُونَthey plotyamkurūna١٢٧
And be patient, [O Muḥammad], and your patience is not but through Allāh. And do not grieve over them and do not be in distress over what they conspire.
١٦:١٢٨
إِنَّIndeedinnaٱللَّهَAllahl-lahaمَعَ(is) withmaʿaٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaٱتَّقَوا۟fear (Him)ittaqawوَّٱلَّذِينَand those whowa-alladhīnaهُم[they]humمُّحْسِنُونَ(are) good-doersmuḥ'sinūna١٢٨
Indeed, Allāh is with those who fear Him and those who are doers of good.
