الإسراء
سورة الإسراء (الإسراء) هي السورة رقم ١٧ في القرآن الكريم — وهي سورة مكية تتألف من ١١١ آية. السور المكية نزلت قبل هجرة النبي محمد ﷺ إلى المدينة، وتركّز غالبًا على الإيمان وتوحيد الله والآخرة.

بِسْمِIn (the) namebis'miٱللَّهِ(of) Allahl-lahiٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِthe Most Graciousl-raḥmāniٱلرَّحِيمِthe Most Mercifull-raḥīmi
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
١٧:١
سُبْحَـٰنَExaltedsub'ḥānaٱلَّذِىٓ(is) the One WhoalladhīأَسْرَىٰtookasrāبِعَبْدِهِۦHis servantbiʿabdihiلَيْلًۭا(by) nightlaylanمِّنَfromminaٱلْمَسْجِدِAl-Masjid Al-Haraaml-masjidiٱلْحَرَامِAl-Masjid Al-Haraaml-ḥarāmiإِلَىtoilāٱلْمَسْجِدِAl-Masjid Al-Aqsal-masjidiٱلْأَقْصَاAl-Masjid Al-Aqsal-aqṣāٱلَّذِىwhichalladhīبَـٰرَكْنَاWe blessedbāraknāحَوْلَهُۥits surroundingsḥawlahuلِنُرِيَهُۥthat We may show himlinuriyahuمِنْofminءَايَـٰتِنَآ ۚOur SignsāyātināإِنَّهُۥIndeed HeinnahuهُوَHehuwaٱلسَّمِيعُ(is) the All-Hearerl-samīʿuٱلْبَصِيرُthe All-Seerl-baṣīru١
Exalted is He who took His Servant [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] by night from al-Masjid al-Ḥarām to al-Masjid al-Aqṣā, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
١٧:٢
وَءَاتَيْنَاAnd We gavewaātaynāمُوسَىMusamūsāٱلْكِتَـٰبَthe Bookl-kitābaوَجَعَلْنَـٰهُand made itwajaʿalnāhuهُدًۭىa guidancehudanلِّبَنِىٓfor the Childrenlibanīإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(of) Israelis'rāīlaأَلَّاThat notallāتَتَّخِذُوا۟you taketattakhidhūمِنother than Meminدُونِىother than Medūnīوَكِيلًۭا(as) a Disposer of affairswakīlan٢
And We gave Moses the Scripture and made it a guidance for the Children of Israel that you not take other than Me as Disposer of affairs,
١٧:٣
ذُرِّيَّةَOffspringsdhurriyyataمَنْ(of one) whomanحَمَلْنَاWe carriedḥamalnāمَعَwithmaʿaنُوحٍ ۚNuhnūḥinإِنَّهُۥIndeed, heinnahuكَانَwaskānaعَبْدًۭاa servantʿabdanشَكُورًۭاgratefulshakūran٣
O descendants of those We carried [in the ship] with Noah. Indeed, he was a grateful servant.
١٧:٤
وَقَضَيْنَآAnd We decreedwaqaḍaynāإِلَىٰforilāبَنِىٓ(the) Childrenbanīإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(of) Israelis'rāīlaفِىinfīٱلْكِتَـٰبِthe Bookl-kitābiلَتُفْسِدُنَّSurely you will cause corruptionlatuf'sidunnaفِىinfīٱلْأَرْضِthe earthl-arḍiمَرَّتَيْنِtwicemarratayniوَلَتَعْلُنَّand surely you will reachwalataʿlunnaعُلُوًّۭاhaughtinessʿuluwwanكَبِيرًۭاgreatkabīran٤
And We conveyed to the Children of Israel in the Scripture that, "You will surely cause corruption on the earth twice, and you will surely reach [a degree of] great haughtiness."
١٧:٥
فَإِذَاSo whenfa-idhāجَآءَcamejāaوَعْدُ(the) promisewaʿduأُولَىٰهُمَا(for) the first of the twoūlāhumāبَعَثْنَاWe raisedbaʿathnāعَلَيْكُمْagainst youʿalaykumعِبَادًۭاservantsʿibādanلَّنَآof Ourslanāأُو۟لِىthose of great military mightulīبَأْسٍۢthose of great military mightbasinشَدِيدٍۢthose of great military mightshadīdinفَجَاسُوا۟and they enteredfajāsūخِلَـٰلَthe inner most partkhilālaٱلدِّيَارِ ۚ(of) the homesl-diyāriوَكَانَand (it) waswakānaوَعْدًۭاa promisewaʿdanمَّفْعُولًۭاfulfilledmafʿūlan٥
So when the [time of] promise came for the first of them, We sent against you servants of Ours - those of great military might, and they probed [even] into the homes, and it was a promise fulfilled.
١٧:٦
ثُمَّThenthummaرَدَدْنَاWe gave backradadnāلَكُمُto youlakumuٱلْكَرَّةَthe return victoryl-karataعَلَيْهِمْover themʿalayhimوَأَمْدَدْنَـٰكُمAnd We reinforced youwa-amdadnākumبِأَمْوَٰلٍۢwith the wealthbi-amwālinوَبَنِينَand sonswabanīnaوَجَعَلْنَـٰكُمْand made youwajaʿalnākumأَكْثَرَmoreaktharaنَفِيرًاnumerousnafīran٦
Then We gave back to you a return victory over them. And We reinforced you with wealth and sons and made you more numerous in manpower.
١٧:٧
إِنْIfinأَحْسَنتُمْyou do goodaḥsantumأَحْسَنتُمْyou do goodaḥsantumلِأَنفُسِكُمْ ۖfor yourselvesli-anfusikumوَإِنْand ifwa-inأَسَأْتُمْyou do evilasatumفَلَهَا ۚthen it is for itfalahāفَإِذَاSo whenfa-idhāجَآءَcamejāaوَعْدُpromisewaʿduٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِthe lastl-ākhiratiلِيَسُـۥٓـُٔوا۟to saddenliyasūūوُجُوهَكُمْyour faceswujūhakumوَلِيَدْخُلُوا۟and to enterwaliyadkhulūٱلْمَسْجِدَthe Masjidl-masjidaكَمَاjust askamāدَخَلُوهُthey (had) entered itdakhalūhuأَوَّلَfirstawwalaمَرَّةٍۢtimemarratinوَلِيُتَبِّرُوا۟and to destroywaliyutabbirūمَاwhatmāعَلَوْا۟they had conqueredʿalawتَتْبِيرًا(with) destructiontatbīran٧
[And said], "If you do good, you do good for yourselves; and if you do evil, [you do it] to them [i.e., yourselves]." Then when the final [i.e., second] promise came, [We sent your enemies] to sadden your faces and to enter the masjid [i.e., the temple in Jerusalem], as they entered it the first time, and to destroy what they had taken over with [total] destruction.
١٧:٨
عَسَىٰ(It) may beʿasāرَبُّكُمْthat your Lordrabbukumأَنthat your Lordanيَرْحَمَكُمْ ۚ(may) have mercy upon youyarḥamakumوَإِنْBut ifwa-inعُدتُّمْyou returnʿudttumعُدْنَا ۘWe will returnʿud'nāوَجَعَلْنَاAnd We have madewajaʿalnāجَهَنَّمَHelljahannamaلِلْكَـٰفِرِينَfor the disbelieverslil'kāfirīnaحَصِيرًاa prison-bedḥaṣīran٨
[Then Allāh said], "It is expected, [if you repent], that your Lord will have mercy upon you. But if you return [to sin], We will return [to punishment]. And We have made Hell, for the disbelievers, a prison-bed."
١٧:٩
إِنَّIndeedinnaهَـٰذَاthishādhāٱلْقُرْءَانَthe Quranl-qur'ānaيَهْدِىguidesyahdīلِلَّتِىto thatlillatīهِىَwhichhiyaأَقْوَمُ(is) most straightaqwamuوَيُبَشِّرُand gives glad tidingswayubashiruٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَto the believers l-mu'minīnaٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaيَعْمَلُونَdoyaʿmalūnaٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِthe righteous deedsl-ṣāliḥātiأَنَّthatannaلَهُمْfor themlahumأَجْرًۭا(is) a rewardajranكَبِيرًۭاgreatkabīran٩
Indeed, this Qur’ān guides to that which is most suitable and gives good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a great reward
١٧:١٠
وَأَنَّAnd thatwa-annaٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaلَا(do) notlāيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveyu'minūnaبِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِin the Hereafterbil-ākhiratiأَعْتَدْنَاWe have preparedaʿtadnāلَهُمْfor themlahumعَذَابًاa punishmentʿadhābanأَلِيمًۭاpainfulalīman١٠
And that those who do not believe in the Hereafter - We have prepared for them a painful punishment.
١٧:١١
وَيَدْعُAnd prayswayadʿuٱلْإِنسَـٰنُthe manl-insānuبِٱلشَّرِّfor evilbil-shariدُعَآءَهُۥ(as) he praysduʿāahuبِٱلْخَيْرِ ۖfor the goodbil-khayriوَكَانَAnd iswakānaٱلْإِنسَـٰنُthe manl-insānuعَجُولًۭاever hastyʿajūlan١١
And man supplicates for evil [when angry] as he supplicates for good, and man is ever hasty.
١٧:١٢
وَجَعَلْنَاAnd We have madewajaʿalnāٱلَّيْلَthe nightal-laylaوَٱلنَّهَارَand the daywal-nahāraءَايَتَيْنِ ۖ(as) two signsāyatayniفَمَحَوْنَآThen We erasedfamaḥawnāءَايَةَ(the) signāyataٱلَّيْلِ(of) the nightal-layliوَجَعَلْنَآand We madewajaʿalnāءَايَةَ(the) signāyataٱلنَّهَارِ(of) the dayl-nahāriمُبْصِرَةًۭvisiblemub'ṣiratanلِّتَبْتَغُوا۟that you may seeklitabtaghūفَضْلًۭاbountyfaḍlanمِّنfromminرَّبِّكُمْyour Lordrabbikumوَلِتَعْلَمُوا۟and that you may knowwalitaʿlamūعَدَدَ(the) numberʿadadaٱلسِّنِينَ(of) the yearsl-sinīnaوَٱلْحِسَابَ ۚand the accountwal-ḥisābaوَكُلَّAnd everywakullaشَىْءٍۢthing shayinفَصَّلْنَـٰهُWe have explained itfaṣṣalnāhuتَفْصِيلًۭا(in) detailtafṣīlan١٢
And We have made the night and day two signs, and We erased the sign of the night and made the sign of the day visible that you may seek bounty from your Lord and may know the number of years and the account [of time]. And everything We have set out in detail.
١٧:١٣
وَكُلَّAnd (for) everywakullaإِنسَـٰنٍmaninsāninأَلْزَمْنَـٰهُWe have fastened to himalzamnāhuطَـٰٓئِرَهُۥhis fateṭāirahuفِىinfīعُنُقِهِۦ ۖhis neckʿunuqihiوَنُخْرِجُand We will bring forthwanukh'rijuلَهُۥfor himlahuيَوْمَ(on the) Dayyawmaٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ(of) the Resurrectionl-qiyāmatiكِتَـٰبًۭاa recordkitābanيَلْقَىٰهُwhich he will findyalqāhuمَنشُورًاwide openmanshūran١٣
And [for] every person We have imposed his fate upon his neck, and We will produce for him on the Day of Resurrection a record which he will encounter spread open.
١٧:١٤
ٱقْرَأْReadiq'raكِتَـٰبَكَyour recordkitābakaكَفَىٰSufficientkafāبِنَفْسِكَ(is) yourselfbinafsikaٱلْيَوْمَtodayl-yawmaعَلَيْكَagainst youʿalaykaحَسِيبًۭا(as) accountantḥasīban١٤
[It will be said], "Read your record. Sufficient is yourself against you this Day as accountant."
١٧:١٥
مَّنِWhoevermaniٱهْتَدَىٰ(is) guidedih'tadāفَإِنَّمَاthen onlyfa-innamāيَهْتَدِىhe is guidedyahtadīلِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖfor his soullinafsihiوَمَنAnd whoeverwamanضَلَّgoes astrayḍallaفَإِنَّمَاthen onlyfa-innamāيَضِلُّhe goes astrayyaḍilluعَلَيْهَا ۚagainst itʿalayhāوَلَاAnd notwalāتَزِرُwill beartaziruوَازِرَةٌۭa bearer of burdenwāziratunوِزْرَburdenwiz'raأُخْرَىٰ ۗ(of) anotherukh'rāوَمَاAnd notwamāكُنَّاWekunnāمُعَذِّبِينَare to punishmuʿadhibīnaحَتَّىٰuntilḥattāنَبْعَثَWe have sentnabʿathaرَسُولًۭاa Messengerrasūlan١٥
Whoever is guided is only guided for [the benefit of] his soul. And whoever errs only errs against it. And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. And never would We punish until We sent a messenger.
١٧:١٦
وَإِذَآAnd whenwa-idhāأَرَدْنَآWe intendaradnāأَنthatanنُّهْلِكَWe destroynuh'likaقَرْيَةًa townqaryatanأَمَرْنَاWe orderamarnāمُتْرَفِيهَاits wealthy peoplemut'rafīhāفَفَسَقُوا۟but they defiantly disobeyfafasaqūفِيهَاthereinfīhāفَحَقَّso (is) proved truefaḥaqqaعَلَيْهَاagainst itʿalayhāٱلْقَوْلُthe wordl-qawluفَدَمَّرْنَـٰهَاand We destroy itfadammarnāhāتَدْمِيرًۭا(with) destructiontadmīran١٦
And when We intend to destroy a city, We command its affluent but they defiantly disobey therein; so the word [i.e., deserved decree] comes into effect upon it, and We destroy it with [complete] destruction.
١٧:١٧
وَكَمْAnd how manywakamأَهْلَكْنَاWe destroyedahlaknāمِنَfromminaٱلْقُرُونِthe generationsl-qurūniمِنۢafterminبَعْدِafterbaʿdiنُوحٍۢ ۗNuhnūḥinوَكَفَىٰAnd sufficientwakafāبِرَبِّكَ(is) your Lordbirabbikaبِذُنُوبِconcerning the sinsbidhunūbiعِبَادِهِۦ(of) His servantsʿibādihiخَبِيرًۢاAll-AwarekhabīranبَصِيرًۭاAll-Seerbaṣīran١٧
And how many have We destroyed from the generations after Noah. And sufficient is your Lord, concerning the sins of His servants, as Aware and Seeing.
١٧:١٨
مَّنWhoevermanكَانَshouldkānaيُرِيدُdesireyurīduٱلْعَاجِلَةَthe immediatel-ʿājilataعَجَّلْنَاWe hastenʿajjalnāلَهُۥfor himlahuفِيهَاin itfīhāمَاwhatmāنَشَآءُWe willnashāuلِمَنto whomlimanنُّرِيدُWe intendnurīduثُمَّThenthummaجَعَلْنَاWe have madejaʿalnāلَهُۥfor himlahuجَهَنَّمَHelljahannamaيَصْلَىٰهَاhe will burnyaṣlāhāمَذْمُومًۭاdisgracedmadhmūmanمَّدْحُورًۭاrejectedmadḥūran١٨
Whoever should desire the immediate - We hasten for him from it what We will to whom We intend. Then We have made for him Hell, which he will [enter to] burn, censured and banished.
١٧:١٩
وَمَنْAnd whoeverwamanأَرَادَdesiresarādaٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَthe Hereafterl-ākhirataوَسَعَىٰand exertswasaʿāلَهَاfor itlahāسَعْيَهَاthe effortsaʿyahāوَهُوَwhile hewahuwaمُؤْمِنٌۭ(is) a believermu'minunفَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَthen thosefa-ulāikaكَانَ[are]kānaسَعْيُهُمtheir effortsaʿyuhumمَّشْكُورًۭا(is) appreciatedmashkūran١٩
But whoever desires the Hereafter and exerts the effort due to it while he is a believer - it is those whose effort is ever appreciated [by Allāh].
١٧:٢٠
كُلًّۭا(To) eachkullanنُّمِدُّWe extendnumidduهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ(to) thesehāulāiوَهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِand (to) thesewahāulāiمِنْfromminعَطَآءِ(the) giftʿaṭāiرَبِّكَ ۚ(of) your LordrabbikaوَمَاAnd notwamāكَانَiskānaعَطَآءُ(the) giftʿaṭāuرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordrabbikaمَحْظُورًاrestrictedmaḥẓūran٢٠
To each [category] We extend - to these and to those - from the gift of your Lord. And never has the gift of your Lord been restricted.
١٧:٢١
ٱنظُرْSeeunẓurكَيْفَhowkayfaفَضَّلْنَاWe preferredfaḍḍalnāبَعْضَهُمْsome of thembaʿḍahumعَلَىٰoverʿalāبَعْضٍۢ ۚothersbaʿḍinوَلَلْـَٔاخِرَةُAnd surely the Hereafterwalalākhiratuأَكْبَرُ(is) greaterakbaruدَرَجَـٰتٍۢ(in) degreesdarajātinوَأَكْبَرُand greaterwa-akbaruتَفْضِيلًۭا(in) excellencetafḍīlan٢١
Look how We have favored [in provision] some of them over others. But the Hereafter is greater in degrees [of difference] and greater in distinction.
١٧:٢٢
لَّا(Do) notlāتَجْعَلْmaketajʿalمَعَwithmaʿaٱللَّهِAllahl-lahiإِلَـٰهًاgodilāhanءَاخَرَanotherākharaفَتَقْعُدَlest you will sitfataqʿudaمَذْمُومًۭاdisgracedmadhmūmanمَّخْذُولًۭاforsakenmakhdhūlan٢٢
Do not make [as equal] with Allāh another deity and [thereby] become censured and forsaken.
١٧:٢٣
۞ وَقَضَىٰAnd has decreedwaqaḍāرَبُّكَyour Lordrabbukaأَلَّاthat (do) notallāتَعْبُدُوٓا۟worshiptaʿbudūإِلَّآexceptillāإِيَّاهُHim Aloneiyyāhuوَبِٱلْوَٰلِدَيْنِand to the parentswabil-wālidayniإِحْسَـٰنًا ۚ(be) goodiḥ'sānanإِمَّاWhetherimmāيَبْلُغَنَّreachyablughannaعِندَكَwith youʿindakaٱلْكِبَرَthe old agel-kibaraأَحَدُهُمَآone of themaḥaduhumāأَوْorawكِلَاهُمَاboth of themkilāhumāفَلَاthen (do) notfalāتَقُلsaytaqulلَّهُمَآto both of themlahumāأُفٍّۢa word of disrespectuffinوَلَاand (do) notwalāتَنْهَرْهُمَاrepel themtanharhumāوَقُلbut speakwaqulلَّهُمَاto themlahumāقَوْلًۭاa wordqawlanكَرِيمًۭاnoblekarīman٢٣
And your Lord has decreed that you worship not except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff,"1 and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.
١٧:٢٤
وَٱخْفِضْAnd lowerwa-ikh'fiḍلَهُمَاto themlahumāجَنَاحَ(the) wingjanāḥaٱلذُّلِّ(of) humilityl-dhuliمِنَ(out) ofminaٱلرَّحْمَةِ[the] mercyl-raḥmatiوَقُلand saywaqulرَّبِّMy LordrabbiٱرْحَمْهُمَاHave mercy on both of themir'ḥamhumāكَمَاaskamāرَبَّيَانِىthey brought me uprabbayānīصَغِيرًۭا(when I was) smallṣaghīran٢٤
And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small."
١٧:٢٥
رَّبُّكُمْYour Lordrabbukumأَعْلَمُ(is) most knowingaʿlamuبِمَاof whatbimāفِى(is) infīنُفُوسِكُمْ ۚyourselvesnufūsikumإِنIfinتَكُونُوا۟you aretakūnūصَـٰلِحِينَrighteousṣāliḥīnaفَإِنَّهُۥthen indeed, Hefa-innahuكَانَiskānaلِلْأَوَّٰبِينَto those who often turn (to Him)lil'awwābīnaغَفُورًۭاMost Forgivingghafūran٢٥
Your Lord is most knowing of what is within yourselves. If you should be righteous [in intention] - then indeed He is ever, to the often returning [to Him], Forgiving.
١٧:٢٦
وَءَاتِAnd givewaātiذَاthe relativesdhāٱلْقُرْبَىٰthe relativesl-qur'bāحَقَّهُۥhis rightḥaqqahuوَٱلْمِسْكِينَand the needywal-mis'kīnaوَٱبْنَand the wayfarerwa-ib'naٱلسَّبِيلِand the wayfarerl-sabīliوَلَاand (do) notwalāتُبَذِّرْspendtubadhirتَبْذِيرًاwastefullytabdhīran٢٦
And give the relative his right, and [also] the poor and the traveler, and do not spend wastefully.
١٧:٢٧
إِنَّIndeedinnaٱلْمُبَذِّرِينَthe spendthriftsl-mubadhirīnaكَانُوٓا۟arekānūإِخْوَٰنَbrothersikh'wānaٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ ۖ(of) the devilsl-shayāṭīniوَكَانَAnd iswakānaٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُthe Shaitaanl-shayṭānuلِرَبِّهِۦto his Lordlirabbihiكَفُورًۭاungratefulkafūran٢٧
Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils, and ever has Satan been to his Lord ungrateful.
١٧:٢٨
وَإِمَّاAnd ifwa-immāتُعْرِضَنَّyou turn awaytuʿ'riḍannaعَنْهُمُfrom themʿanhumuٱبْتِغَآءَseekingib'tighāaرَحْمَةٍۢmercyraḥmatinمِّنfromminرَّبِّكَyour Lordrabbikaتَرْجُوهَاwhich you expecttarjūhāفَقُلthen sayfaqulلَّهُمْto themlahumقَوْلًۭاa wordqawlanمَّيْسُورًۭاgentlemaysūran٢٨
And if you [must] turn away from them [i.e., the needy] awaiting mercy from your Lord which you expect, then speak to them a gentle word.
١٧:٢٩
وَلَاAnd (do) notwalāتَجْعَلْmaketajʿalيَدَكَyour handyadakaمَغْلُولَةًchainedmaghlūlatanإِلَىٰtoilāعُنُقِكَyour neckʿunuqikaوَلَاand notwalāتَبْسُطْهَاextend ittabsuṭ'hāكُلَّ(to its) utmostkullaٱلْبَسْطِreachl-basṭiفَتَقْعُدَso that you sitfataqʿudaمَلُومًۭاblameworthymalūmanمَّحْسُورًاinsolventmaḥsūran٢٩
And do not make your hand [as] chained to your neck or extend it completely and [thereby] become blamed and insolvent.
١٧:٣٠
إِنَّIndeedinnaرَبَّكَyour Lordrabbakaيَبْسُطُextendsyabsuṭuٱلرِّزْقَthe provisionl-riz'qaلِمَنfor whomlimanيَشَآءُHe willsyashāuوَيَقْدِرُ ۚand straitenswayaqdiruإِنَّهُۥIndeed, Heinnahuكَانَiskānaبِعِبَادِهِۦof His slavesbiʿibādihiخَبِيرًۢاAll-AwarekhabīranبَصِيرًۭاAll-Seerbaṣīran٣٠
Indeed, your Lord extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. Indeed He is ever, concerning His servants, Aware and Seeing.
١٧:٣١
وَلَاAnd (do) notwalāتَقْتُلُوٓا۟killtaqtulūأَوْلَـٰدَكُمْyour childrenawlādakumخَشْيَةَ(for) fearkhashyataإِمْلَـٰقٍۢ ۖ(of) povertyim'lāqinنَّحْنُWenaḥnuنَرْزُقُهُمْ(We) provide for themnarzuquhumوَإِيَّاكُمْ ۚand for youwa-iyyākumإِنَّIndeedinnaقَتْلَهُمْtheir killingqatlahumكَانَiskānaخِطْـًۭٔاa sinkhiṭ'anكَبِيرًۭاgreatkabīran٣١
And do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Indeed, their killing is ever a great sin.
١٧:٣٢
وَلَاAnd (do) notwalāتَقْرَبُوا۟go neartaqrabūٱلزِّنَىٰٓ ۖadulteryl-zināإِنَّهُۥIndeed, itinnahuكَانَiskānaفَـٰحِشَةًۭan immoralityfāḥishatanوَسَآءَand (an) evilwasāaسَبِيلًۭاwaysabīlan٣٢
And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way.
١٧:٣٣
وَلَاAnd (do) notwalāتَقْتُلُوا۟killtaqtulūٱلنَّفْسَthe soull-nafsaٱلَّتِىwhichallatīحَرَّمَAllah has forbiddenḥarramaٱللَّهُAllah has forbiddenl-lahuإِلَّاexceptillāبِٱلْحَقِّ ۗby rightbil-ḥaqiوَمَنAnd whoeverwamanقُتِلَ(is) killedqutilaمَظْلُومًۭاwrongfullymaẓlūmanفَقَدْverilyfaqadجَعَلْنَاWe have madejaʿalnāلِوَلِيِّهِۦfor his heirliwaliyyihiسُلْطَـٰنًۭاan authoritysul'ṭānanفَلَاbut notfalāيُسْرِفhe should exceedyus'rifفِّىinfīٱلْقَتْلِ ۖthe killingl-qatliإِنَّهُۥIndeed, heinnahuكَانَiskānaمَنصُورًۭاhelpedmanṣūran٣٣
And do not kill the soul [i.e., person] which Allāh has forbidden, except by right. And whoever is killed unjustly - We have given his heir authority, but let him not exceed limits in [the matter of] taking life. Indeed, he has been supported [by the law].
١٧:٣٤
وَلَاAnd (do) notwalāتَقْرَبُوا۟come neartaqrabūمَالَ(the) wealthmālaٱلْيَتِيمِ(of) the orphanl-yatīmiإِلَّاexceptillāبِٱلَّتِىwith whatbi-allatīهِىَ[it] ishiyaأَحْسَنُbestaḥsanuحَتَّىٰuntilḥattāيَبْلُغَhe reachesyablughaأَشُدَّهُۥ ۚhis maturityashuddahuوَأَوْفُوا۟And fulfilwa-awfūبِٱلْعَهْدِ ۖthe covenantbil-ʿahdiإِنَّIndeedinnaٱلْعَهْدَthe covenantl-ʿahdaكَانَwill bekānaمَسْـُٔولًۭاquestionedmasūlan٣٤
And do not approach the property of an orphan, except in the way that is best, until he reaches maturity. And fulfill [every] commitment. Indeed, the commitment is ever [that about which one will be] questioned.
١٧:٣٥
وَأَوْفُوا۟And give fullwa-awfūٱلْكَيْلَ[the] measurel-kaylaإِذَاwhenidhāكِلْتُمْyou measurekil'tumوَزِنُوا۟and weighwazinūبِٱلْقِسْطَاسِwith the balancebil-qis'ṭāsiٱلْمُسْتَقِيمِ ۚthe straightl-mus'taqīmiذَٰلِكَThatdhālikaخَيْرٌۭ(is) goodkhayrunوَأَحْسَنُand bestwa-aḥsanuتَأْوِيلًۭا(in) resulttawīlan٣٥
And give full measure when you measure, and weigh with an even [i.e., honest] balance. That is the best [way] and best in result.
١٧:٣٦
وَلَاAnd (do) notwalāتَقْفُpursuetaqfuمَاwhatmāلَيْسَnotlaysaلَكَyou havelakaبِهِۦof itbihiعِلْمٌ ۚany knowledgeʿil'munإِنَّIndeedinnaٱلسَّمْعَthe hearingl-samʿaوَٱلْبَصَرَand the sightwal-baṣaraوَٱلْفُؤَادَand the heartwal-fuādaكُلُّallkulluأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَthoseulāikaكَانَwill bekānaعَنْهُ[about it]ʿanhuمَسْـُٔولًۭاquestionedmasūlan٣٦
And do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed, the hearing, the sight and the heart - about all those [one] will be questioned.
١٧:٣٧
وَلَاAnd (do) notwalāتَمْشِwalktamshiفِىinfīٱلْأَرْضِthe earthl-arḍiمَرَحًا ۖ(with) insolencemaraḥanإِنَّكَIndeed, youinnakaلَنwill neverlanتَخْرِقَteartakhriqaٱلْأَرْضَthe earthl-arḍaوَلَنand will neverwalanتَبْلُغَreachtablughaٱلْجِبَالَthe mountainsl-jibālaطُولًۭا(in) heightṭūlan٣٧
And do not walk upon the earth exultantly. Indeed, you will never tear the earth [apart], and you will never reach the mountains in height.
١٧:٣٨
كُلُّAllkulluذَٰلِكَthatdhālikaكَانَiskānaسَيِّئُهُۥ[its] evilsayyi-uhuعِندَnearʿindaرَبِّكَyour Lordrabbikaمَكْرُوهًۭاhatefulmakrūhan٣٨
All that [i.e., the aforementioned] - its evil is ever, in the sight of your Lord, detested.
١٧:٣٩
ذَٰلِكَThatdhālikaمِمَّآ(is) from whatmimmāأَوْحَىٰٓ(was) revealedawḥāإِلَيْكَto youilaykaرَبُّكَ(from) your Lordrabbukaمِنَofminaٱلْحِكْمَةِ ۗthe wisdoml-ḥik'matiوَلَاAnd (do) notwalāتَجْعَلْmaketajʿalمَعَwithmaʿaٱللَّهِAllahl-lahiإِلَـٰهًاgodilāhanءَاخَرَotherākharaفَتُلْقَىٰlest you should be thrownfatul'qāفِىinfīجَهَنَّمَHelljahannamaمَلُومًۭاblameworthymalūmanمَّدْحُورًاabandonedmadḥūran٣٩
That is from what your Lord has revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], of wisdom. And, [O mankind], do not make [as equal] with Allāh another deity, lest you be thrown into Hell, blamed and banished.
١٧:٤٠
أَفَأَصْفَىٰكُمْThen has your Lord chosen (for) youafa-aṣfākumرَبُّكُمThen has your Lord chosen (for) yourabbukumبِٱلْبَنِينَsonsbil-banīnaوَٱتَّخَذَand He has takenwa-ittakhadhaمِنَfromminaٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِthe Angelsl-malāikatiإِنَـٰثًا ۚdaughtersināthanإِنَّكُمْIndeed, youinnakumلَتَقُولُونَsurely saylataqūlūnaقَوْلًاa wordqawlanعَظِيمًۭاgraveʿaẓīman٤٠
Then, has your Lord chosen you for [having] sons and taken [i.e., adopted] from among the angels daughters? Indeed, you say a grave saying.
١٧:٤١
وَلَقَدْAnd verilywalaqadصَرَّفْنَاWe have explainedṣarrafnāفِىinfīهَـٰذَاthishādhāٱلْقُرْءَانِthe Quranl-qur'āniلِيَذَّكَّرُوا۟that they may take heedliyadhakkarūوَمَاbut notwamāيَزِيدُهُمْit increases themyazīduhumإِلَّاexceptillāنُفُورًۭا(in) aversionnufūran٤١
And We have certainly diversified [the contents] in this Qur’ān that they [i.e., mankind] may be reminded, but it does not increase them [i.e., the disbelievers] except in aversion.
١٧:٤٢
قُلSayqulلَّوْIflawكَانَ(there) werekānaمَعَهُۥٓwith Himmaʿahuءَالِهَةٌۭgodsālihatunكَمَاaskamāيَقُولُونَthey sayyaqūlūnaإِذًۭاthenidhanلَّٱبْتَغَوْا۟surely they (would) have soughtla-ib'taghawإِلَىٰtoilāذِى(the) Ownerdhīٱلْعَرْشِ(of) the Thronel-ʿarshiسَبِيلًۭاa waysabīlan٤٢
Say, [O Muḥammad], "If there had been with Him [other] gods, as they say, then they [each] would have sought to the Owner of the Throne a way."1
١٧:٤٣
سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥGlorified is Hesub'ḥānahuوَتَعَـٰلَىٰand Exalted is Hewataʿālāعَمَّاabove whatʿammāيَقُولُونَthey sayyaqūlūnaعُلُوًّۭا(by) heightʿuluwwanكَبِيرًۭاgreatkabīran٤٣
Exalted is He and high above what they say by great sublimity.
١٧:٤٤
تُسَبِّحُGlorifytusabbiḥuلَهُ[to] Himlahuٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُthe seven heavensl-samāwātuٱلسَّبْعُthe seven heavensl-sabʿuوَٱلْأَرْضُand the earthwal-arḍuوَمَنand whateverwamanفِيهِنَّ ۚ(is) in themfīhinnaوَإِنAnd (there is) notwa-inمِّنanyminشَىْءٍthingshayinإِلَّاexceptillāيُسَبِّحُglorifiesyusabbiḥuبِحَمْدِهِۦHis Praisebiḥamdihiوَلَـٰكِنbutwalākinلَّاnotlāتَفْقَهُونَyou understandtafqahūnaتَسْبِيحَهُمْ ۗtheir glorificationtasbīḥahumإِنَّهُۥIndeed, HeinnahuكَانَiskānaحَلِيمًاEver-ForbearingḥalīmanغَفُورًۭاOft-Forgivingghafūran٤٤
The seven heavens and the earth and whatever is in them exalt Him. And there is not a thing except that it exalts [Allāh] by His praise, but you do not understand their [way of] exalting. Indeed, He is ever Forbearing and Forgiving.
١٧:٤٥
وَإِذَاAnd whenwa-idhāقَرَأْتَyou reciteqarataٱلْقُرْءَانَthe Quranl-qur'ānaجَعَلْنَاWe placejaʿalnāبَيْنَكَbetween youbaynakaوَبَيْنَand betweenwabaynaٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaلَا(do) notlāيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveyu'minūnaبِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِin the Hereafterbil-ākhiratiحِجَابًۭاa barrierḥijābanمَّسْتُورًۭاhiddenmastūran٤٥
And when you recite the Qur’ān, We put between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter a concealed partition.
١٧:٤٦
وَجَعَلْنَاAnd We have placedwajaʿalnāعَلَىٰoverʿalāقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsqulūbihimأَكِنَّةًcoveringsakinnatanأَنlestanيَفْقَهُوهُthey understand ityafqahūhuوَفِىٓand inwafīءَاذَانِهِمْtheir earsādhānihimوَقْرًۭا ۚdeafnesswaqranوَإِذَاAnd whenwa-idhāذَكَرْتَyou mentiondhakartaرَبَّكَyour Lordrabbakaفِىinfīٱلْقُرْءَانِthe Quranl-qur'āniوَحْدَهُۥAlonewaḥdahuوَلَّوْا۟they turnwallawعَلَىٰٓonʿalāأَدْبَـٰرِهِمْtheir backsadbārihimنُفُورًۭا(in) aversionnufūran٤٦
And We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And when you mention your Lord alone in the Qur’ān, they turn back in aversion.
١٧:٤٧
نَّحْنُWenaḥnuأَعْلَمُknow bestaʿlamuبِمَا[of] whatbimāيَسْتَمِعُونَthey listenyastamiʿūnaبِهِۦٓto [it]bihiإِذْwhenidhيَسْتَمِعُونَthey listenyastamiʿūnaإِلَيْكَto youilaykaوَإِذْand whenwa-idhهُمْtheyhumنَجْوَىٰٓ(are) in private conversationnajwāإِذْwhenidhيَقُولُsayyaqūluٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَthe wrongdoersl-ẓālimūnaإِنNotinتَتَّبِعُونَyou followtattabiʿūnaإِلَّاbutillāرَجُلًۭاa manrajulanمَّسْحُورًاbewitchedmasḥūran٤٧
We are most knowing of how they listen to it when they listen to you and [of] when they are in private conversation, when the wrongdoers say, "You follow not but a man affected by magic."
١٧:٤٨
ٱنظُرْSeeunẓurكَيْفَhowkayfaضَرَبُوا۟they put forthḍarabūلَكَfor youlakaٱلْأَمْثَالَthe examplesl-amthālaفَضَلُّوا۟but they have gone astrayfaḍallūفَلَاso notfalāيَسْتَطِيعُونَthey canyastaṭīʿūnaسَبِيلًۭا(find) a waysabīlan٤٨
Look how they strike for you comparisons; but they have strayed, so they cannot [find] a way.
١٧:٤٩
وَقَالُوٓا۟And they saywaqālūأَءِذَاIs it whena-idhāكُنَّاwe arekunnāعِظَـٰمًۭاbonesʿiẓāmanوَرُفَـٰتًاand crumbled particleswarufātanأَءِنَّاwill wea-innāلَمَبْعُوثُونَsurely (be) resurrectedlamabʿūthūnaخَلْقًۭا(as) a creationkhalqanجَدِيدًۭاnewjadīdan٤٩
And they say, "When we are bones and crumbled particles, will we [truly] be resurrected as a new creation?"
١٧:٥٠
۞ قُلْSayqulكُونُوا۟Bekūnūحِجَارَةًstonesḥijāratanأَوْorawحَدِيدًاironḥadīdan٥٠
Say, "Be you stones or iron
١٧:٥١
أَوْOrawخَلْقًۭاa creationkhalqanمِّمَّاof whatmimmāيَكْبُرُ(is) greatyakburuفِىinfīصُدُورِكُمْ ۚyour breastsṣudūrikumفَسَيَقُولُونَThen they will sayfasayaqūlūnaمَنWhomanيُعِيدُنَا ۖwill restore usyuʿīdunāقُلِSayquliٱلَّذِىHe Whoalladhīفَطَرَكُمْcreated youfaṭarakumأَوَّلَ(the) firstawwalaمَرَّةٍۢ ۚtimemarratinفَسَيُنْغِضُونَThen they will shakefasayun'ghiḍūnaإِلَيْكَat youilaykaرُءُوسَهُمْtheir headsruūsahumوَيَقُولُونَand they saywayaqūlūnaمَتَىٰWhen (will)matāهُوَ ۖit (be)huwaقُلْSayqulعَسَىٰٓPerhapsʿasāأَنthatanيَكُونَ(it) will beyakūnaقَرِيبًۭاsoonqarīban٥١
Or [any] creation of that which is great within your breasts." And they will say, "Who will restore us?" Say, "He who brought you forth the first time." Then they will nod their heads toward you and say, "When is that?" Say, "Perhaps it will be soon -
١٧:٥٢
يَوْمَ(On) the DayyawmaيَدْعُوكُمْHe will call youyadʿūkumفَتَسْتَجِيبُونَand you will respondfatastajībūnaبِحَمْدِهِۦwith His Praisebiḥamdihiوَتَظُنُّونَand you will thinkwataẓunnūnaإِنnotinلَّبِثْتُمْyou had remainedlabith'tumإِلَّاexceptillāقَلِيلًۭاa little (while)qalīlan٥٢
On the Day He will call you and you will respond with praise of Him and think that you had not remained [in the world] except for a little."
١٧:٥٣
وَقُلAnd saywaqulلِّعِبَادِىto My slavesliʿibādīيَقُولُوا۟(to) sayyaqūlūٱلَّتِىthatallatīهِىَwhichhiyaأَحْسَنُ ۚ(is) bestaḥsanuإِنَّIndeedinnaٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَthe Shaitaanl-shayṭānaيَنزَغُsows discordyanzaghuبَيْنَهُمْ ۚbetween thembaynahumإِنَّIndeedinnaٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَthe Shaitaanl-shayṭānaكَانَiskānaلِلْإِنسَـٰنِto the manlil'insāniعَدُوًّۭاan enemyʿaduwwanمُّبِينًۭاclearmubīnan٥٣
And tell My servants to say that which is best. Indeed, Satan induces [dissension] among them. Indeed Satan is ever, to mankind, a clear enemy.
١٧:٥٤
رَّبُّكُمْYour Lordrabbukumأَعْلَمُ(is) most knowingaʿlamuبِكُمْ ۖof youbikumإِنIfinيَشَأْHe willsyashaيَرْحَمْكُمْHe will have mercy on youyarḥamkumأَوْorawإِنifinيَشَأْHe willsyashaيُعَذِّبْكُمْ ۚHe will punish youyuʿadhib'kumوَمَآAnd notwamāأَرْسَلْنَـٰكَWe have sent youarsalnākaعَلَيْهِمْover themʿalayhimوَكِيلًۭا(as) a guardianwakīlan٥٤
Your Lord is most knowing of you. If He wills, He will have mercy upon you; or if He wills, He will punish you. And We have not sent you, [O Muḥammad], over them as a manager.
١٧:٥٥
وَرَبُّكَAnd your Lordwarabbukaأَعْلَمُ(is) most knowingaʿlamuبِمَنof whoeverbimanفِى(is) infīٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِthe heavensl-samāwātiوَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗand the earthwal-arḍiوَلَقَدْAnd verilywalaqadفَضَّلْنَاWe have preferredfaḍḍalnāبَعْضَsomebaʿḍaٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ(of) the Prophetsl-nabiyīnaعَلَىٰtoʿalāبَعْضٍۢ ۖothersbaʿḍinوَءَاتَيْنَاAnd We gavewaātaynāدَاوُۥدَDawooddāwūdaزَبُورًۭاZaboorzabūran٥٥
And your Lord is most knowing of whoever is in the heavens and the earth. And We have made some of the prophets exceed others [in various ways], and to David We gave the book [of Psalms].
١٧:٥٦
قُلِSayquliٱدْعُوا۟Callid'ʿūٱلَّذِينَthose whomalladhīnaزَعَمْتُمyou claimedzaʿamtumمِّنbesides Himminدُونِهِۦbesides Himdūnihiفَلَا[then] notfalāيَمْلِكُونَthey have poweryamlikūnaكَشْفَ(to) removekashfaٱلضُّرِّthe misfortunesl-ḍuriعَنكُمْfrom youʿankumوَلَاand notwalāتَحْوِيلًا(to) transfer (it)taḥwīlan٥٦
Say, "Invoke those you have claimed [as gods] besides Him, for they do not possess the [ability for] removal of adversity from you or [for its] transfer [to someone else]."
١٧:٥٧
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَThoseulāikaٱلَّذِينَwhomalladhīnaيَدْعُونَthey callyadʿūnaيَبْتَغُونَseekyabtaghūnaإِلَىٰtoilāرَبِّهِمُtheir Lordrabbihimuٱلْوَسِيلَةَthe means of accessl-wasīlataأَيُّهُمْwhich of themayyuhumأَقْرَبُ(is) nearestaqrabuوَيَرْجُونَand they hopewayarjūnaرَحْمَتَهُۥ(for) His mercyraḥmatahuوَيَخَافُونَand fearwayakhāfūnaعَذَابَهُۥٓ ۚHis punishmentʿadhābahuإِنَّIndeedinnaعَذَابَ(the) punishmentʿadhābaرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordrabbikaكَانَiskānaمَحْذُورًۭا(ever) fearedmaḥdhūran٥٧
Those whom they invoke seek means of access to their Lord, [striving as to] which of them would be nearest, and they hope for His mercy and fear His punishment. Indeed, the punishment of your Lord is ever feared.
١٧:٥٨
وَإِنAnd notwa-inمِّن(is) anyminقَرْيَةٍtownqaryatinإِلَّاbutillāنَحْنُWenaḥnuمُهْلِكُوهَا(will) destroy itmuh'likūhāقَبْلَbeforeqablaيَوْمِ(the) Dayyawmiٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ(of) the Resurrectionl-qiyāmatiأَوْorawمُعَذِّبُوهَاpunish itmuʿadhibūhāعَذَابًۭاwith a punishmentʿadhābanشَدِيدًۭا ۚsevereshadīdanكَانَThat iskānaذَٰلِكَThat isdhālikaفِىinfīٱلْكِتَـٰبِthe Bookl-kitābiمَسْطُورًۭاwrittenmasṭūran٥٨
And there is no city but that We will destroy it before the Day of Resurrection or punish it with a severe punishment. That has ever been in the Register inscribed.
١٧:٥٩
وَمَاAnd notwamāمَنَعَنَآstopped UsmanaʿanāأَنthatanنُّرْسِلَWe sendnur'silaبِٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِthe Signsbil-āyātiإِلَّآexceptillāأَنthatanكَذَّبَdeniedkadhabaبِهَاthembihāٱلْأَوَّلُونَ ۚthe former (people)l-awalūnaوَءَاتَيْنَاAnd We gavewaātaynāثَمُودَThamudthamūdaٱلنَّاقَةَthe she-camell-nāqataمُبْصِرَةًۭ(as) a visible signmub'ṣiratanفَظَلَمُوا۟but they wrongedfaẓalamūبِهَا ۚherbihāوَمَاAnd notwamāنُرْسِلُWe sendnur'siluبِٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِthe Signsbil-āyātiإِلَّاexceptillāتَخْوِيفًۭا(as) a warningtakhwīfan٥٩
And nothing has prevented Us from sending signs [i.e., miracles] except that the former peoples denied them. And We gave Thamūd the she-camel as a visible sign, but they wronged her. And We send not the signs except as a warning.
١٧:٦٠
وَإِذْAnd whenwa-idhقُلْنَاWe saidqul'nāلَكَto youlakaإِنَّIndeedinnaرَبَّكَyour Lordrabbakaأَحَاطَhas encompassedaḥāṭaبِٱلنَّاسِ ۚthe mankindbil-nāsiوَمَاAnd notwamāجَعَلْنَاWe madejaʿalnāٱلرُّءْيَاthe visionl-ru'yāٱلَّتِىٓwhichallatīأَرَيْنَـٰكَWe showed youaraynākaإِلَّاexceptillāفِتْنَةًۭ(as) a trialfit'natanلِّلنَّاسِfor mankindlilnnāsiوَٱلشَّجَرَةَand the treewal-shajarataٱلْمَلْعُونَةَthe accursedl-malʿūnataفِىinfīٱلْقُرْءَانِ ۚthe Quranl-qur'āniوَنُخَوِّفُهُمْAnd We threaten themwanukhawwifuhumفَمَاbut notfamāيَزِيدُهُمْit increases themyazīduhumإِلَّاexceptillāطُغْيَـٰنًۭا(in) transgressionṭugh'yānanكَبِيرًۭاgreatkabīran٦٠
And [remember, O Muḥammad], when We told you, "Indeed, your Lord has encompassed the people."1 And We did not make the sight which We showed you except as a trial for the people, as was the accursed tree [mentioned] in the Qur’ān. And We threaten [i.e., warn] them, but it increases them not except in great transgression.
١٧:٦١
وَإِذْAnd whenwa-idhقُلْنَاWe saidqul'nāلِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِto the Angelslil'malāikatiٱسْجُدُوا۟Prostrateus'judūلِـَٔادَمَto Adamliādamaفَسَجَدُوٓا۟So they prostratedfasajadūإِلَّآexceptillāإِبْلِيسَIblisib'līsaقَالَHe saidqālaءَأَسْجُدُShall I prostratea-asjuduلِمَنْto (one) whomlimanخَلَقْتَYou createdkhalaqtaطِينًۭا(from) clayṭīnan٦١
And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He said, "Should I prostrate to one You created from clay?"
١٧:٦٢
قَالَHe saidqālaأَرَءَيْتَكَDo You seeara-aytakaهَـٰذَاthishādhāٱلَّذِىwhomalladhīكَرَّمْتَYou have honoredkarramtaعَلَىَّabove meʿalayyaلَئِنْIfla-inأَخَّرْتَنِYou give me respiteakhartaniإِلَىٰtillilāيَوْمِ(the) Dayyawmiٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ(of) the Resurrectionl-qiyāmatiلَأَحْتَنِكَنَّI will surely destroyla-aḥtanikannaذُرِّيَّتَهُۥٓhis offspringdhurriyyatahuإِلَّاexceptillāقَلِيلًۭاa fewqalīlan٦٢
[Iblees] said, "Do You see this one whom You have honored above me? If You delay me [i.e., my death] until the Day of Resurrection, I will surely destroy his descendants, except for a few."
١٧:٦٣
قَالَHe saidqālaٱذْهَبْGoidh'habفَمَنand whoeverfamanتَبِعَكَfollows youtabiʿakaمِنْهُمْamong themmin'humفَإِنَّthen indeedfa-innaجَهَنَّمَHelljahannamaجَزَآؤُكُمْ(is) your recompense jazāukumجَزَآءًۭa recompensejazāanمَّوْفُورًۭاamplemawfūran٦٣
[Allāh] said, "Go, for whoever of them follows you, indeed Hell will be the recompense of [all of] you - an ample recompense.
١٧:٦٤
وَٱسْتَفْزِزْAnd incitewa-is'tafzizمَنِwhoevermaniٱسْتَطَعْتَyou canis'taṭaʿtaمِنْهُمamong themmin'humبِصَوْتِكَwith your voicebiṣawtikaوَأَجْلِبْand assaultwa-ajlibعَلَيْهِم[on] themʿalayhimبِخَيْلِكَwith your cavalrybikhaylikaوَرَجِلِكَand infantrywarajilikaوَشَارِكْهُمْand be a partnerwashārik'humفِىinfīٱلْأَمْوَٰلِthe wealthl-amwāliوَٱلْأَوْلَـٰدِand the childrenwal-awlādiوَعِدْهُمْ ۚand promise themwaʿid'humوَمَاAnd notwamāيَعِدُهُمُpromises themyaʿiduhumuٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُthe Shaitaanl-shayṭānuإِلَّاexceptillāغُرُورًاdelusionghurūran٦٤
And incite [to senselessness] whoever you can among them with your voice and assault them with your horses and foot soldiers and become a partner in their wealth and their children and promise them." But Satan does not promise them except delusion.
١٧:٦٥
إِنَّIndeedinnaعِبَادِىMy slavesʿibādīلَيْسَnotlaysaلَكَfor youlakaعَلَيْهِمْover themʿalayhimسُلْطَـٰنٌۭ ۚany authoritysul'ṭānunوَكَفَىٰAnd sufficientwakafāبِرَبِّكَ(is) your Lordbirabbikaوَكِيلًۭا(as) a Guardianwakīlan٦٥
Indeed, over My [believing] servants there is for you no authority. And sufficient is your Lord as Disposer of affairs.
١٧:٦٦
رَّبُّكُمُYour Lordrabbukumuٱلَّذِى(is) the One Whoalladhīيُزْجِىdrivesyuz'jīلَكُمُfor youlakumuٱلْفُلْكَthe shipl-ful'kaفِىinfīٱلْبَحْرِthe seal-baḥriلِتَبْتَغُوا۟that you may seeklitabtaghūمِنofminفَضْلِهِۦٓ ۚHis BountyfaḍlihiإِنَّهُۥIndeed, Heinnahuكَانَiskānaبِكُمْto youbikumرَحِيمًۭاEver Mercifulraḥīman٦٦
It is your Lord who drives the ship for you through the sea that you may seek of His bounty. Indeed, He is ever, to you, Merciful.
١٧:٦٧
وَإِذَاAnd whenwa-idhāمَسَّكُمُtouches youmassakumuٱلضُّرُّthe hardshipl-ḍuruفِىinfīٱلْبَحْرِthe seal-baḥriضَلَّlostḍallaمَن(are) whomanتَدْعُونَyou calltadʿūnaإِلَّآexceptillāإِيَّاهُ ۖHim AloneiyyāhuفَلَمَّاBut whenfalammāنَجَّىٰكُمْHe delivers younajjākumإِلَىtoilāٱلْبَرِّthe landl-bariأَعْرَضْتُمْ ۚyou turn awayaʿraḍtumوَكَانَAnd iswakānaٱلْإِنسَـٰنُmanl-insānuكَفُورًاungratefulkafūran٦٧
And when adversity touches you at sea, lost are [all] those you invoke except for Him. But when He delivers you to the land, you turn away [from Him]. And ever is man ungrateful.
١٧:٦٨
أَفَأَمِنتُمْDo you then feel secureafa-amintumأَنthat (not)anيَخْسِفَHe will cause to swallowyakhsifaبِكُمْyoubikumجَانِبَsidejānibaٱلْبَرِّ(of) the landl-bariأَوْorawيُرْسِلَsendyur'silaعَلَيْكُمْagainst youʿalaykumحَاصِبًۭاa storm of stonesḥāṣibanثُمَّThenthummaلَاnotlāتَجِدُوا۟you will findtajidūلَكُمْfor youlakumوَكِيلًاa guardianwakīlan٦٨
Then do you feel secure that [instead] He will not cause a part of the land to swallow you or send against you a storm of stones? Then you would not find for yourselves an advocate.
١٧:٦٩
أَمْOramأَمِنتُمْdo you feel secureamintumأَنthat (not)anيُعِيدَكُمْHe will send you backyuʿīdakumفِيهِinto itfīhiتَارَةًanother timetāratanأُخْرَىٰanother timeukh'rāفَيُرْسِلَand sendfayur'silaعَلَيْكُمْupon youʿalaykumقَاصِفًۭاa hurricaneqāṣifanمِّنَofminaٱلرِّيحِthe windl-rīḥiفَيُغْرِقَكُمand drown youfayugh'riqakumبِمَاbecausebimāكَفَرْتُمْ ۙyou disbelievedkafartumثُمَّThenthummaلَاnotlāتَجِدُوا۟you will findtajidūلَكُمْfor youlakumعَلَيْنَاagainst Usʿalaynāبِهِۦthereinbihiتَبِيعًۭاan avengertabīʿan٦٩
Or do you feel secure that He will not send you back into it [i.e., the sea] another time and send upon you a hurricane of wind and drown you for what you denied? Then you would not find for yourselves against Us an avenger.
١٧:٧٠
۞ وَلَقَدْAnd certainlywalaqadكَرَّمْنَاWe have honoredkarramnāبَنِىٓ(the) children of Adambanīءَادَمَ(the) children of Adamādamaوَحَمَلْنَـٰهُمْand We carried themwaḥamalnāhumفِىonfīٱلْبَرِّthe landl-bariوَٱلْبَحْرِand the seawal-baḥriوَرَزَقْنَـٰهُمand We have provided themwarazaqnāhumمِّنَofminaٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِthe good thingsl-ṭayibātiوَفَضَّلْنَـٰهُمْand We preferred themwafaḍḍalnāhumعَلَىٰoverʿalāكَثِيرٍۢmanykathīrinمِّمَّنْof those whommimmanخَلَقْنَاWe have createdkhalaqnāتَفْضِيلًۭا(with) preferencetafḍīlan٧٠
And We have certainly honored the children of Adam and carried them on the land and sea and provided for them of the good things and preferred them over much of what We have created, with [definite] preference.
١٧:٧١
يَوْمَ(The) Dayyawmaنَدْعُوا۟We will callnadʿūكُلَّallkullaأُنَاسٍۭhuman beingsunāsinبِإِمَـٰمِهِمْ ۖwith their recordbi-imāmihimفَمَنْthen whoeverfamanأُوتِىَis givenūtiyaكِتَـٰبَهُۥhis recordkitābahuبِيَمِينِهِۦin his right handbiyamīnihiفَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَthen thosefa-ulāikaيَقْرَءُونَwill readyaqraūnaكِتَـٰبَهُمْtheir recordskitābahumوَلَاand notwalāيُظْلَمُونَthey will be wrongedyuẓ'lamūnaفَتِيلًۭا(even as much as) a hair on a date seedfatīlan٧١
[Mention, O Muḥammad], the Day We will call forth every people with their record [of deeds]. Then whoever is given his record in his right hand - those will read their records, and injustice will not be done to them, [even] as much as a thread [inside the date seed].
١٧:٧٢
وَمَنAnd whoeverwamanكَانَiskānaفِىinfīهَـٰذِهِۦٓthis (world)hādhihiأَعْمَىٰblindaʿmāفَهُوَthen hefahuwaفِىinfīٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِthe Hereafterl-ākhiratiأَعْمَىٰ(will be) blindaʿmāوَأَضَلُّand more astraywa-aḍalluسَبِيلًۭا(from the) pathsabīlan٧٢
And whoever is blind in this [life] will be blind in the Hereafter and more astray in way.
١٧:٧٣
وَإِنAnd indeedwa-inكَادُوا۟they were about (to)kādūلَيَفْتِنُونَكَtempt you awaylayaftinūnakaعَنِfromʿaniٱلَّذِىٓthat whichalladhīأَوْحَيْنَآWe revealedawḥaynāإِلَيْكَto youilaykaلِتَفْتَرِىَthat you inventlitaftariyaعَلَيْنَاabout Usʿalaynāغَيْرَهُۥ ۖother (than) itghayrahuوَإِذًۭاAnd thenwa-idhanلَّٱتَّخَذُوكَsurely they would take youla-ittakhadhūkaخَلِيلًۭا(as) a friendkhalīlan٧٣
And indeed, they were about to tempt you away from that which We revealed to you in order to [make] you invent about Us something else; and then they would have taken you as a friend.
١٧:٧٤
وَلَوْلَآAnd if notwalawlāأَن[that]anثَبَّتْنَـٰكَWe (had) strengthened youthabbatnākaلَقَدْcertainlylaqadكِدتَّyou almostkidttaتَرْكَنُ(would) have inclinedtarkanuإِلَيْهِمْto themilayhimشَيْـًۭٔا(in) somethingshayanقَلِيلًاa littleqalīlan٧٤
And if We had not strengthened you, you would have almost inclined to them a little.
١٧:٧٥
إِذًۭاThenidhanلَّأَذَقْنَـٰكَWe (would) have made you tastela-adhaqnākaضِعْفَdoubleḍiʿ'faٱلْحَيَوٰةِ(in) the lifel-ḥayatiوَضِعْفَand doublewaḍiʿ'faٱلْمَمَاتِ(after) the deathl-mamātiثُمَّThenthummaلَاnotlāتَجِدُyou (would) have foundtajiduلَكَfor youlakaعَلَيْنَاagainst Usʿalaynāنَصِيرًۭاany helpernaṣīran٧٥
Then [if you had], We would have made you taste double [punishment in] life and double [after] death. Then you would not find for yourself against Us a helper.
١٧:٧٦
وَإِنAnd indeedwa-inكَادُوا۟they were aboutkādūلَيَسْتَفِزُّونَكَ(to) scare youlayastafizzūnakaمِنَfromminaٱلْأَرْضِthe landl-arḍiلِيُخْرِجُوكَthat they evict youliyukh'rijūkaمِنْهَا ۖfrom itmin'hāوَإِذًۭاBut thenwa-idhanلَّاnotlāيَلْبَثُونَthey (would) have stayedyalbathūnaخِلَـٰفَكَafter youkhilāfakaإِلَّاexceptillāقَلِيلًۭاa littleqalīlan٧٦
And indeed, they were about to provoke [i.e., drive] you from the land [i.e., Makkah] to evict you therefrom. And then [when they do], they will not remain [there] after you, except for a little.
١٧:٧٧
سُنَّةَ(Such is Our) Waysunnataمَن(for) whommanقَدْ[verily]qadأَرْسَلْنَاWe sentarsalnāقَبْلَكَbefore youqablakaمِنofminرُّسُلِنَا ۖOur MessengersrusulināوَلَاAnd notwalāتَجِدُyou will findtajiduلِسُنَّتِنَا(in) Our waylisunnatināتَحْوِيلًاany alterationtaḥwīlan٧٧
[That is Our] established way for those We had sent before you of Our messengers; and you will not find in Our way any alteration.
١٧:٧٨
أَقِمِEstablishaqimiٱلصَّلَوٰةَthe prayerl-ṣalataلِدُلُوكِat the declinelidulūkiٱلشَّمْسِ(of) the sunl-shamsiإِلَىٰtillilāغَسَقِ(the) darknessghasaqiٱلَّيْلِ(of) the nightal-layliوَقُرْءَانَand Quranwaqur'ānaٱلْفَجْرِ ۖat dawnl-fajriإِنَّindeedinnaقُرْءَانَthe Quranqur'ānaٱلْفَجْرِ(at) the dawnl-fajriكَانَiskānaمَشْهُودًۭاever witnessedmashhūdan٧٨
Establish prayer at the decline of the sun [from its meridian] until the darkness of the night and [also] the Qur’ān [i.e., recitation] of dawn. Indeed, the recitation of dawn is ever witnessed.
١٧:٧٩
وَمِنَAnd fromwaminaٱلَّيْلِthe nightal-layliفَتَهَجَّدْarise from sleep for prayerfatahajjadبِهِۦwith itbihiنَافِلَةًۭ(as) additionalnāfilatanلَّكَfor youlakaعَسَىٰٓit may beʿasāأَنthatanيَبْعَثَكَwill raise youyabʿathakaرَبُّكَyour Lordrabbukaمَقَامًۭا(to) a stationmaqāmanمَّحْمُودًۭاpraiseworthymaḥmūdan٧٩
And from [part of] the night, pray with it [i.e., recitation of the Qur’ān] as additional [worship] for you; it is expected that your Lord will resurrect you to a praised station.
١٧:٨٠
وَقُلAnd saywaqulرَّبِّMy LordrabbiأَدْخِلْنِىCause me to enteradkhil'nīمُدْخَلَan entrancemud'khalaصِدْقٍۢsoundṣid'qinوَأَخْرِجْنِىand cause me to exitwa-akhrij'nīمُخْرَجَan exitmukh'rajaصِدْقٍۢsoundṣid'qinوَٱجْعَلand makewa-ij'ʿalلِّىfor melīمِنfromminلَّدُنكَnear Youladunkaسُلْطَـٰنًۭاan authoritysul'ṭānanنَّصِيرًۭاhelpingnaṣīran٨٠
And say, "My Lord, cause me to enter a sound entrance and to exit a sound exit and grant me from Yourself a supporting authority."
١٧:٨١
وَقُلْAnd saywaqulجَآءَHas comejāaٱلْحَقُّthe truthl-ḥaquوَزَهَقَand perishedwazahaqaٱلْبَـٰطِلُ ۚthe falsehoodl-bāṭiluإِنَّIndeedinnaٱلْبَـٰطِلَthe falsehoodl-bāṭilaكَانَiskānaزَهُوقًۭا(bound) to perishzahūqan٨١
And say, "Truth has come, and falsehood has departed. Indeed is falsehood, [by nature], ever bound to depart."
١٧:٨٢
وَنُنَزِّلُAnd We revealwanunazziluمِنَfromminaٱلْقُرْءَانِthe Quranl-qur'āniمَاthatmāهُوَithuwaشِفَآءٌۭ(is) a healingshifāonوَرَحْمَةٌۭand a mercywaraḥmatunلِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۙfor the believerslil'mu'minīnaوَلَاbut notwalāيَزِيدُit increasesyazīduٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَthe wrongdoersl-ẓālimīnaإِلَّاexceptillāخَسَارًۭا(in) losskhasāran٨٢
And We send down of the Qur’ān that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.
١٧:٨٣
وَإِذَآAnd whenwa-idhāأَنْعَمْنَاWe bestow favoranʿamnāعَلَىonʿalāٱلْإِنسَـٰنِmanl-insāniأَعْرَضَhe turns awayaʿraḍaوَنَـَٔاand becomes remotewanaāبِجَانِبِهِۦ ۖon his sidebijānibihiوَإِذَاAnd whenwa-idhāمَسَّهُtouches himmassahuٱلشَّرُّthe evill-sharuكَانَhe iskānaيَـُٔوسًۭا(in) despairyaūsan٨٣
And when We bestow favor upon man [i.e., the disbeliever], he turns away and distances himself; and when evil touches him, he is ever despairing.
١٧:٨٤
قُلْSayqulكُلٌّۭEachkullunيَعْمَلُworksyaʿmaluعَلَىٰonʿalāشَاكِلَتِهِۦhis mannershākilatihiفَرَبُّكُمْbut your Lordfarabbukumأَعْلَمُ(is) most knowingaʿlamuبِمَنْof whobimanهُوَ[he]huwaأَهْدَىٰ(is) best guidedahdāسَبِيلًۭا(in) waysabīlan٨٤
Say, "Each works according to his manner, but your Lord is most knowing of who is best guided in way."
١٧:٨٥
وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَAnd they ask youwayasalūnakaعَنِconcerningʿaniٱلرُّوحِ ۖthe soull-rūḥiقُلِSayquliٱلرُّوحُThe soull-rūḥuمِنْ(is) ofminأَمْرِ(the) affairamriرَبِّى(of) my LordrabbīوَمَآAnd notwamāأُوتِيتُمyou have been givenūtītumمِّنَofminaٱلْعِلْمِthe knowledgel-ʿil'miإِلَّاexceptillāقَلِيلًۭاa littleqalīlan٨٥
And they ask you, [O Muḥammad], about the soul. Say, "The soul is of the affair [i.e., concern] of my Lord. And you [i.e., mankind] have not been given of knowledge except a little."
١٧:٨٦
وَلَئِنAnd ifwala-inشِئْنَاWe willedshi'nāلَنَذْهَبَنَّWe (would) have surely taken awaylanadhhabannaبِٱلَّذِىٓthat whichbi-alladhīأَوْحَيْنَآWe have revealedawḥaynāإِلَيْكَto youilaykaثُمَّThenthummaلَاnotlāتَجِدُyou would findtajiduلَكَfor youlakaبِهِۦconcerning itbihiعَلَيْنَاagainst Usʿalaynāوَكِيلًاany advocatewakīlan٨٦
And if We willed, We could surely do away with that which We revealed to you. Then you would not find for yourself concerning it an advocate against Us.
١٧:٨٧
إِلَّاExceptillāرَحْمَةًۭa mercyraḥmatanمِّنfromminرَّبِّكَ ۚyour LordrabbikaإِنَّIndeedinnaفَضْلَهُۥHis Bountyfaḍlahuكَانَiskānaعَلَيْكَupon youʿalaykaكَبِيرًۭاgreatkabīran٨٧
Except [We have left it with you] as a mercy from your Lord. Indeed, His favor upon you has ever been great.
١٧:٨٨
قُلSayqulلَّئِنِIfla-iniٱجْتَمَعَتِgatheredij'tamaʿatiٱلْإِنسُthe mankindl-insuوَٱلْجِنُّand the jinnwal-jinuعَلَىٰٓtoʿalāأَن[that]anيَأْتُوا۟bringyatūبِمِثْلِthe likebimith'liهَـٰذَا(of) thishādhāٱلْقُرْءَانِQuranl-qur'āniلَاnotlāيَأْتُونَthey (could) bringyatūnaبِمِثْلِهِۦthe like of itbimith'lihiوَلَوْeven ifwalawكَانَwerekānaبَعْضُهُمْsome of thembaʿḍuhumلِبَعْضٍۢto some otherslibaʿḍinظَهِيرًۭاassistantsẓahīran٨٨
Say, "If mankind and the jinn gathered in order to produce the like of this Qur’ān, they could not produce the like of it, even if they were to each other assistants."
١٧:٨٩
وَلَقَدْAnd verilywalaqadصَرَّفْنَاWe have explainedṣarrafnāلِلنَّاسِto mankindlilnnāsiفِىinfīهَـٰذَاthishādhāٱلْقُرْءَانِQuranl-qur'āniمِنfromminكُلِّeverykulliمَثَلٍۢexamplemathalinفَأَبَىٰٓbut refusedfa-abāأَكْثَرُmostaktharuٱلنَّاسِ(of) the mankindl-nāsiإِلَّاexceptillāكُفُورًۭاdisbeliefkufūran٨٩
And We have certainly diversified for the people in this Qur’ān from every [kind of] example, but most of the people refused except disbelief.
١٧:٩٠
وَقَالُوا۟And they saywaqālūلَنNeverlanنُّؤْمِنَwe will believenu'minaلَكَin youlakaحَتَّىٰuntilḥattāتَفْجُرَyou cause to gush forthtafjuraلَنَاfor uslanāمِنَfromminaٱلْأَرْضِthe earthl-arḍiيَنۢبُوعًاa springyanbūʿan٩٠
And they say, "We will not believe you until you break open for us from the ground a spring
١٧:٩١
أَوْOrawتَكُونَyou havetakūnaلَكَfor youlakaجَنَّةٌۭa gardenjannatunمِّنofminنَّخِيلٍۢdate-palmsnakhīlinوَعِنَبٍۢand grapeswaʿinabinفَتُفَجِّرَand cause to gush forthfatufajjiraٱلْأَنْهَـٰرَthe riversl-anhāraخِلَـٰلَهَاwithin themkhilālahāتَفْجِيرًاabundantlytafjīran٩١
Or [until] you have a garden of palm trees and grapes and make rivers gush forth within them in force [and abundance]
١٧:٩٢
أَوْOrawتُسْقِطَyou cause to falltus'qiṭaٱلسَّمَآءَthe skyl-samāaكَمَاaskamāزَعَمْتَyou have claimedzaʿamtaعَلَيْنَاupon usʿalaynāكِسَفًا(in) pieceskisafanأَوْorawتَأْتِىَyou bringtatiyaبِٱللَّهِAllahbil-lahiوَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِand the Angelswal-malāikatiقَبِيلًاbefore (us)qabīlan٩٢
Or you make the heaven fall upon us in fragments as you have claimed or you bring Allāh and the angels before [us]
١٧:٩٣
أَوْOrawيَكُونَisyakūnaلَكَfor youlakaبَيْتٌۭa housebaytunمِّنofminزُخْرُفٍornamentzukh'rufinأَوْorawتَرْقَىٰyou ascendtarqāفِىintofīٱلسَّمَآءِthe skyl-samāiوَلَنAnd neverwalanنُّؤْمِنَwe will believenu'minaلِرُقِيِّكَin your ascensionliruqiyyikaحَتَّىٰuntilḥattāتُنَزِّلَyou bring downtunazzilaعَلَيْنَاto usʿalaynāكِتَـٰبًۭاa bookkitābanنَّقْرَؤُهُۥ ۗwe could read itnaqra-uhuقُلْSayqulسُبْحَانَGlorified (is)sub'ḥānaرَبِّىmy LordrabbīهَلْWhathalكُنتُam Ikuntuإِلَّاbutillāبَشَرًۭاa humanbasharanرَّسُولًۭاa Messengerrasūlan٩٣
Or you have a house of ornament [i.e., gold] or you ascend into the sky. And [even then], we will not believe in your ascension until you bring down to us a book we may read." Say, "Exalted is my Lord! Was I ever but a human messenger?"
١٧:٩٤
وَمَاAnd whatwamāمَنَعَpreventedmanaʿaٱلنَّاسَthe peoplel-nāsaأَنthatanيُؤْمِنُوٓا۟they believeyu'minūإِذْwhenidhجَآءَهُمُcame to themjāahumuٱلْهُدَىٰٓthe guidancel-hudāإِلَّآexceptillāأَنthatanقَالُوٓا۟they saidqālūأَبَعَثَHas Allah sentabaʿathaٱللَّهُHas Allah sentl-lahuبَشَرًۭاa humanbasharanرَّسُولًۭاMessengerrasūlan٩٤
And what prevented the people from believing when guidance came to them except that they said, "Has Allāh sent a human messenger?"
١٧:٩٥
قُلSayqulلَّوْIflawكَانَ(there) werekānaفِىinfīٱلْأَرْضِthe earthl-arḍiمَلَـٰٓئِكَةٌۭAngelsmalāikatunيَمْشُونَwalkingyamshūnaمُطْمَئِنِّينَsecurelymuṭ'ma-innīnaلَنَزَّلْنَاsurely We (would) have sent downlanazzalnāعَلَيْهِمto themʿalayhimمِّنَfromminaٱلسَّمَآءِthe heavenl-samāiمَلَكًۭاan Angelmalakanرَّسُولًۭا(as) a Messengerrasūlan٩٥
Say, "If there were upon the earth angels walking securely, We would have sent down to them from the heaven an angel [as a] messenger."
١٧:٩٦
قُلْSayqulكَفَىٰSufficient iskafāبِٱللَّهِAllahbil-lahiشَهِيدًۢا(as) a witnessshahīdanبَيْنِىbetween mebaynīوَبَيْنَكُمْ ۚand between youwabaynakumإِنَّهُۥIndeed, Heinnahuكَانَiskānaبِعِبَادِهِۦof His slavesbiʿibādihiخَبِيرًۢاAll-AwarekhabīranبَصِيرًۭاAll-Seerbaṣīran٩٦
Say, "Sufficient is Allāh as Witness between me and you. Indeed He is ever, concerning His servants, Aware and Seeing."
١٧:٩٧
وَمَنAnd whoeverwamanيَهْدِAllah guidesyahdiٱللَّهُAllah guidesl-lahuفَهُوَthen he (is)fahuwaٱلْمُهْتَدِ ۖthe guided onel-muh'tadiوَمَنand whoeverwamanيُضْلِلْHe lets go astray yuḍ'lilفَلَنthen neverfalanتَجِدَyou will findtajidaلَهُمْfor themlahumأَوْلِيَآءَprotectorsawliyāaمِنbesides Himminدُونِهِۦ ۖbesides HimdūnihiوَنَحْشُرُهُمْAnd We will gather themwanaḥshuruhumيَوْمَ(on) the Dayyawmaٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ(of) the Resurrectionl-qiyāmatiعَلَىٰonʿalāوُجُوهِهِمْtheir faces wujūhihimعُمْيًۭاblindʿum'yanوَبُكْمًۭاand dumbwabuk'manوَصُمًّۭا ۖand deafwaṣummanمَّأْوَىٰهُمْTheir abodemawāhumجَهَنَّمُ ۖ(is) Helljahannamuكُلَّمَاevery timekullamāخَبَتْit subsideskhabatزِدْنَـٰهُمْWe (will) increase (for) themzid'nāhumسَعِيرًۭاthe blazing firesaʿīran٩٧
And whoever Allāh guides - he is the [rightly] guided; and whoever He sends astray - you will never find for them protectors besides Him, and We will gather them on the Day of Resurrection [fallen] on their faces - blind, dumb and deaf. Their refuge is Hell; every time it subsides, We increase [for] them blazing fire.
١٧:٩٨
ذَٰلِكَThatdhālikaجَزَآؤُهُم(is) their recompensejazāuhumبِأَنَّهُمْbecause theybi-annahumكَفَرُوا۟disbelievedkafarūبِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاin Our Versesbiāyātināوَقَالُوٓا۟and saidwaqālūأَءِذَاWhena-idhāكُنَّاwe arekunnāعِظَـٰمًۭاbonesʿiẓāmanوَرُفَـٰتًاand crumbled particleswarufātanأَءِنَّاwill wea-innāلَمَبْعُوثُونَsurely (be) resurrectedlamabʿūthūnaخَلْقًۭا(as) a creationkhalqanجَدِيدًاnewjadīdan٩٨
That is their recompense because they disbelieved in Our verses and said, "When we are bones and crumbled particles, will we [truly] be resurrected [in] a new creation?"
١٧:٩٩
۞ أَوَلَمْDo notawalamيَرَوْا۟they seeyarawأَنَّthatannaٱللَّهَAllahl-lahaٱلَّذِىthe One Whoalladhīخَلَقَcreatedkhalaqaٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِthe heavensl-samāwātiوَٱلْأَرْضَand the earthwal-arḍaقَادِرٌ(is) Ableqādirunعَلَىٰٓ[on]ʿalāأَنtoanيَخْلُقَcreateyakhluqaمِثْلَهُمْthe like of themmith'lahumوَجَعَلَAnd He has madewajaʿalaلَهُمْfor themlahumأَجَلًۭاa termajalanلَّاnolāرَيْبَdoubtraybaفِيهِin itfīhiفَأَبَىBut refusedfa-abāٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَthe wrongdoersl-ẓālimūnaإِلَّاexceptillāكُفُورًۭاdisbeliefkufūran٩٩
Do they not see that Allāh, who created the heavens and earth, is [the one] Able to create the likes of them? And He has appointed for them a term, about which there is no doubt. But the wrongdoers refuse except disbelief.
١٧:١٠٠
قُلSayqulلَّوْIflawأَنتُمْyouantumتَمْلِكُونَpossesstamlikūnaخَزَآئِنَthe treasureskhazāinaرَحْمَةِ(of) the Mercyraḥmatiرَبِّىٓ(of) my Lordrabbīإِذًۭاthenidhanلَّأَمْسَكْتُمْsurely you would withholdla-amsaktumخَشْيَةَ(out of) fearkhashyataٱلْإِنفَاقِ ۚ(of) spendingl-infāqiوَكَانَAnd iswakānaٱلْإِنسَـٰنُmanl-insānuقَتُورًۭاstingyqatūran١٠٠
Say [to them], "If you possessed the depositories of the mercy of my Lord, then you would withhold out of fear of spending." And ever has man been stingy.
١٧:١٠١
وَلَقَدْAnd certainlywalaqadءَاتَيْنَاWe had givenātaynāمُوسَىٰMusamūsāتِسْعَninetis'ʿaءَايَـٰتٍۭSignsāyātinبَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ ۖclearbayyinātinفَسْـَٔلْso askfasalبَنِىٓ(the) Children of Israelbanīإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(the) Children of Israelis'rāīlaإِذْwhenidhجَآءَهُمْhe came to themjāahumفَقَالَthen saidfaqālaلَهُۥto himlahuفِرْعَوْنُFiraunfir'ʿawnuإِنِّىIndeed, Iinnīلَأَظُنُّكَ[I] think you la-aẓunnukaيَـٰمُوسَىٰO Musayāmūsāمَسْحُورًۭا(you are) bewitchedmasḥūran١٠١
And We had certainly given Moses nine evident signs, so ask the Children of Israel [about] when he came to them and Pharaoh said to him, "Indeed I think, O Moses, that you are affected by magic."
١٧:١٠٢
قَالَHe saidqālaلَقَدْVerilylaqadعَلِمْتَyou have knownʿalim'taمَآnonemāأَنزَلَhas sent downanzalaهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِthesehāulāiإِلَّاexceptillāرَبُّ(the) Lordrabbuٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensl-samāwātiوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthwal-arḍiبَصَآئِرَ(as) evidencebaṣāiraوَإِنِّىand indeed, Iwa-innīلَأَظُنُّكَ[I] surely think youla-aẓunnukaيَـٰفِرْعَوْنُO Firaunyāfir'ʿawnuمَثْبُورًۭا(you are) destroyedmathbūran١٠٢
[Moses] said, "You have already known that none has sent down these [signs] except the Lord of the heavens and the earth as evidence, and indeed I think, O Pharaoh, that you are destroyed."
١٧:١٠٣
فَأَرَادَSo he intendedfa-arādaأَنtoanيَسْتَفِزَّهُمdrive them outyastafizzahumمِّنَfromminaٱلْأَرْضِthe landl-arḍiفَأَغْرَقْنَـٰهُbut We drowned himfa-aghraqnāhuوَمَنand whowamanمَّعَهُۥ(were) with himmaʿahuجَمِيعًۭاalljamīʿan١٠٣
So he intended to drive them from the land, but We drowned him and those with him all together.
١٧:١٠٤
وَقُلْنَاAnd We saidwaqul'nāمِنۢafter himminبَعْدِهِۦafter himbaʿdihiلِبَنِىٓto the Children of Israellibanīإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَto the Children of Israelis'rāīlaٱسْكُنُوا۟Dwellus'kunūٱلْأَرْضَ(in) the landl-arḍaفَإِذَاthen whenfa-idhāجَآءَcomesjāaوَعْدُ(the) promisewaʿduٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ(of) the Hereafterl-ākhiratiجِئْنَاWe will bringji'nāبِكُمْyoubikumلَفِيفًۭا(as) a mixed crowdlafīfan١٠٤
And We said after him [i.e., Pharaoh] to the Children of Israel, "Dwell in the land, and when there comes the promise [i.e., appointment] of the Hereafter, We will bring you forth in [one] gathering."
١٧:١٠٥
وَبِٱلْحَقِّAnd with the truthwabil-ḥaqiأَنزَلْنَـٰهُWe sent it downanzalnāhuوَبِٱلْحَقِّand with the truthwabil-ḥaqiنَزَلَ ۗit descendednazalaوَمَآAnd notwamāأَرْسَلْنَـٰكَWe sent youarsalnākaإِلَّاexceptillāمُبَشِّرًۭا(as) a bearer of glad tidingsmubashiranوَنَذِيرًۭاand a warnerwanadhīran١٠٥
And with the truth We have sent it [i.e., the Qur’ān] down, and with the truth it has descended. And We have not sent you, [O Muḥammad], except as a bringer of good tidings and a warner.
١٧:١٠٦
وَقُرْءَانًۭاAnd the Quranwaqur'ānanفَرَقْنَـٰهُWe have dividedfaraqnāhuلِتَقْرَأَهُۥthat you might recite itlitaqra-ahuعَلَىtoʿalāٱلنَّاسِthe peoplel-nāsiعَلَىٰatʿalāمُكْثٍۢintervalsmuk'thinوَنَزَّلْنَـٰهُAnd We have revealed itwanazzalnāhuتَنزِيلًۭا(in) stagestanzīlan١٠٦
And [it is] a Qur’ān which We have separated [by intervals] that you might recite it to the people over a prolonged period. And We have sent it down progressively.
١٧:١٠٧
قُلْSayqulءَامِنُوا۟Believeāminūبِهِۦٓin itbihiأَوْorawلَا(do) notlāتُؤْمِنُوٓا۟ ۚbelievetu'minūإِنَّIndeedinnaٱلَّذِينَthose whoalladhīnaأُوتُوا۟were givenūtūٱلْعِلْمَthe knowledgel-ʿil'maمِنbefore itminقَبْلِهِۦٓbefore itqablihiإِذَاwhenidhāيُتْلَىٰit is recitedyut'lāعَلَيْهِمْto themʿalayhimيَخِرُّونَthey fallyakhirrūnaلِلْأَذْقَانِon their faceslil'adhqāniسُجَّدًۭا(in) prostrationsujjadan١٠٧
Say, "Believe in it or do not believe." Indeed, those who were given knowledge before it - when it is recited to them, they fall upon their faces in prostration,
١٧:١٠٨
وَيَقُولُونَAnd they saywayaqūlūnaسُبْحَـٰنَGlory be tosub'ḥānaرَبِّنَآour LordrabbināإِنIndeedinكَانَiskānaوَعْدُ(the) promisewaʿduرَبِّنَا(of) our Lordrabbināلَمَفْعُولًۭاsurely fulfilledlamafʿūlan١٠٨
And they say, "Exalted is our Lord! Indeed, the promise of our Lord has been fulfilled."
١٧:١٠٩
وَيَخِرُّونَAnd they fallwayakhirrūnaلِلْأَذْقَانِon their faceslil'adhqāniيَبْكُونَweepingyabkūnaوَيَزِيدُهُمْand it increases themwayazīduhumخُشُوعًۭا ۩(in) humilitykhushūʿan١٠٩
And they fall upon their faces weeping, and it [i.e., the Qur’ān] increases them in humble submission.
١٧:١١٠
قُلِSayquliٱدْعُوا۟Invokeid'ʿūٱللَّهَAllahl-lahaأَوِorawiٱدْعُوا۟invokeid'ʿūٱلرَّحْمَـٰنَ ۖthe Most Graciousl-raḥmānaأَيًّۭاBy whatever (name)ayyanمَّاBy whatever (name)māتَدْعُوا۟you invoketadʿūفَلَهُto Him (belongs)falahuٱلْأَسْمَآءُthe Most Beautiful Namesl-asmāuٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚthe Most Beautiful Namesl-ḥus'nāوَلَاAnd (do) notwalāتَجْهَرْbe loudtajharبِصَلَاتِكَin your prayersbiṣalātikaوَلَاand notwalāتُخَافِتْbe silenttukhāfitبِهَاthereinbihāوَٱبْتَغِbut seekwa-ib'taghiبَيْنَbetweenbaynaذَٰلِكَthatdhālikaسَبِيلًۭاa waysabīlan١١٠
Say, "Call upon Allāh or call upon the Most Merciful [ar-Raḥmān]. Whichever [name] you call - to Him belong the best names." And do not recite [too] loudly in your prayer or [too] quietly but seek between that an [intermediate] way.
١٧:١١١
وَقُلِAnd saywaquliٱلْحَمْدُAll Praisel-ḥamduلِلَّهِ(is) for Allahlillahiٱلَّذِىthe One Whoalladhīلَمْhas not takenlamيَتَّخِذْhas not takenyattakhidhوَلَدًۭاa sonwaladanوَلَمْand notwalamيَكُنisyakunلَّهُۥfor Himlahuشَرِيكٌۭa partnersharīkunفِىinfīٱلْمُلْكِthe dominionl-mul'kiوَلَمْand notwalamيَكُنisyakunلَّهُۥfor Himlahuوَلِىٌّۭany protectorwaliyyunمِّنَout ofminaٱلذُّلِّ ۖweaknessl-dhuliوَكَبِّرْهُAnd magnify Himwakabbir'huتَكْبِيرًۢا(with all) magnificencetakbīran١١١
And say, "Praise to Allāh, who has not taken a son and has had no partner in [His] dominion and has no [need of a] protector out of weakness; and glorify Him with [great] glorification."
