بسملة

بِسْمِIn (the) nameٱللَّهِ(of) Allahٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِthe Most Graciousٱلرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

٥٣:١

وَٱلنَّجْمِBy the starإِذَاwhenهَوَىٰit goes down١

By the star when it descends,

٥٣:٢

مَاNotضَلَّhas strayedصَاحِبُكُمْyour companionوَمَاand notغَوَىٰhas he erred٢

Your companion [i.e., Muḥammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred,

٥٣:٣

وَمَاAnd notيَنطِقُhe speaksعَنِfromٱلْهَوَىٰٓthe desire٣

Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination.

٥٣:٤

إِنْNotهُوَitإِلَّا(is) exceptوَحْىٌۭa revelationيُوحَىٰrevealed٤

It is not but a revelation revealed,

٥٣:٥

عَلَّمَهُۥHas taught himشَدِيدُthe (one) mightyٱلْقُوَىٰ(in) power٥

Taught to him by one intense in strength [i.e., Gabriel] -

٥٣:٦

ذُوPossessor of soundnessمِرَّةٍۢPossessor of soundnessفَٱسْتَوَىٰAnd he rose٦

One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form

٥٣:٧

وَهُوَWhile heبِٱلْأُفُقِ(was) in the horizon ٱلْأَعْلَىٰthe highest٧

While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon.

٥٣:٨

ثُمَّThenدَنَاhe approachedفَتَدَلَّىٰand came down٨

Then he approached and descended

٥٣:٩

فَكَانَAnd wasقَابَ(at) a distanceقَوْسَيْنِ(of) two bow-(lengths)أَوْorأَدْنَىٰnearer٩

And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer.

٥٣:١٠

فَأَوْحَىٰٓSo he revealedإِلَىٰtoعَبْدِهِۦHis slaveمَآwhatأَوْحَىٰhe revealed١٠

And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed [i.e., conveyed].

٥٣:١١

مَاNotكَذَبَliedٱلْفُؤَادُthe heartمَاwhatرَأَىٰٓit saw١١

The heart did not lie [about] what it saw.

٥٣:١٢

أَفَتُمَـٰرُونَهُۥThen will you dispute with himعَلَىٰaboutمَاwhatيَرَىٰhe saw١٢

So will you dispute with him over what he saw?

٥٣:١٣

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyرَءَاهُhe saw himنَزْلَةً(in) descentأُخْرَىٰanother١٣

And he certainly saw him in another descent

٥٣:١٤

عِندَNearسِدْرَةِ(the) Lote Treeٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ(of) the utmost boundary١٤

At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary -

٥٣:١٥

عِندَهَاNear itجَنَّةُ(is the) Gardenٱلْمَأْوَىٰٓ(of) Abode١٥

Near it is the Garden of Refuge [i.e., Paradise] -

٥٣:١٦

إِذْWhenيَغْشَىcoveredٱلسِّدْرَةَthe Lote Treeمَاwhatيَغْشَىٰcovers١٦

When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it].

٥٣:١٧

مَاNotزَاغَswervedٱلْبَصَرُthe sightوَمَاand notطَغَىٰit transgressed١٧

The sight [of the Prophet (ﷺ)] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit].

٥٣:١٨

لَقَدْCertainlyرَأَىٰhe sawمِنْofءَايَـٰتِ(the) Signsرَبِّهِ(of) his Lordٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓthe Greatest١٨

He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord.

٥٣:١٩

أَفَرَءَيْتُمُSo have you seenٱللَّـٰتَthe Latوَٱلْعُزَّىٰand the Uzza١٩

So have you considered al-Lāt and al-ʿUzzā?

٥٣:٢٠

وَمَنَوٰةَAnd Manatٱلثَّالِثَةَthe thirdٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓthe other٢٠

And Manāt, the third - the other one?

٥٣:٢١

أَلَكُمُIs for youٱلذَّكَرُthe maleوَلَهُand for Himٱلْأُنثَىٰthe female٢١

Is the male for you and for Him the female?

٥٣:٢٢

تِلْكَThisإِذًۭاthenقِسْمَةٌۭ(is) a divisionضِيزَىٰٓunfair٢٢

That, then, is an unjust division.

٥٣:٢٣

إِنْNotهِىَtheyإِلَّآ(are) exceptأَسْمَآءٌۭnamesسَمَّيْتُمُوهَآyou have named themأَنتُمْyouوَءَابَآؤُكُمand your forefathersمَّآnotأَنزَلَhas Allah sent downٱللَّهُhas Allah sent downبِهَاfor itمِنanyسُلْطَـٰنٍ ۚauthorityإِنNotيَتَّبِعُونَthey followإِلَّاexceptٱلظَّنَّassumptionوَمَاand whatتَهْوَىdesireٱلْأَنفُسُ ۖthe(ir) soulsوَلَقَدْAnd certainlyجَآءَهُمhas come to themمِّنfromرَّبِّهِمُtheir Lordٱلْهُدَىٰٓthe guidance٢٣

They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allāh has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance.

٥٣:٢٤

أَمْOrلِلْإِنسَـٰنِ(is) for manمَاwhatتَمَنَّىٰhe wishes٢٤

Or is there for man whatever he wishes?

٥٣:٢٥

فَلِلَّهِBut for Allahٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ(is) the lastوَٱلْأُولَىٰand the first٢٥

Rather, to Allāh belongs the Hereafter and the first [life].

٥٣:٢٦

۞ وَكَمAnd how manyمِّنofمَّلَكٍۢ(the) Angelsفِىinٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِthe heavensلَاnotتُغْنِىwill availشَفَـٰعَتُهُمْtheir intercessionشَيْـًٔاanythingإِلَّاexceptمِنۢafterبَعْدِafterأَن[that]يَأْذَنَAllah has given permissionٱللَّهُAllah has given permissionلِمَنfor whomيَشَآءُHe willsوَيَرْضَىٰٓand approves٢٦

And how many angels there are in the heavens whose intercession will not avail at all except [only] after Allāh has permitted [it] to whom He wills and approves.

٥٣:٢٧

إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoلَا(do) notيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveبِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِin the Hereafterلَيُسَمُّونَsurely they nameٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَthe Angelsتَسْمِيَةَname(s)ٱلْأُنثَىٰ(of) female٢٧

Indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter name the angels female names,

٥٣:٢٨

وَمَاAnd notلَهُمfor themبِهِۦabout itمِنْanyعِلْمٍ ۖknowledgeإِنNotيَتَّبِعُونَthey followإِلَّاbutٱلظَّنَّ ۖassumptionوَإِنَّAnd indeedٱلظَّنَّthe assumptionلَا(does) notيُغْنِىavailمِنَagainstٱلْحَقِّthe truthشَيْـًۭٔاanything٢٨

And they have thereof no knowledge. They follow not except assumption, and indeed, assumption avails not against the truth at all.

٥٣:٢٩

فَأَعْرِضْSo turn awayعَنfromمَّن(him) whoتَوَلَّىٰturns awayعَنfromذِكْرِنَاOur Reminderوَلَمْand notيُرِدْhe desiresإِلَّاexceptٱلْحَيَوٰةَthe lifeٱلدُّنْيَا(of) the world٢٩

So turn away from whoever turns his back on Our message and desires not except the worldly life.

٥٣:٣٠

ذَٰلِكَThatمَبْلَغُهُم(is) their sumمِّنَofٱلْعِلْمِ ۚknowledgeإِنَّIndeedرَبَّكَyour Lordهُوَ(is) He (Who)أَعْلَمُknows bestبِمَن(he) whoضَلَّstraysعَنfromسَبِيلِهِۦHis Pathوَهُوَand Heأَعْلَمُknows bestبِمَنِ(he) whoٱهْتَدَىٰis guided٣٠

That is their sum of knowledge. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who strays from His way, and He is most knowing of who is guided.

٥٣:٣١

وَلِلَّهِAnd for Allahمَا(is) whateverفِى(is) inٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِthe heavensوَمَاand whateverفِى(is) inٱلْأَرْضِthe earthلِيَجْزِىَthat He may recompenseٱلَّذِينَthose whoأَسَـٰٓـُٔوا۟do evilبِمَاwith whatعَمِلُوا۟they have doneوَيَجْزِىَand recompenseٱلَّذِينَthose whoأَحْسَنُوا۟do goodبِٱلْحُسْنَىwith the best٣١

And to Allāh belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth - that He may recompense those who do evil with [the penalty of] what they have done and recompense those who do good with the best [reward] -

٥٣:٣٢

ٱلَّذِينَThose whoيَجْتَنِبُونَavoidكَبَـٰٓئِرَgreatٱلْإِثْمِsinsوَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَand the immoralitiesإِلَّاexceptٱللَّمَمَ ۚthe small faultsإِنَّindeedرَبَّكَyour Lordوَٰسِعُ(is) vastٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ(in) forgivenessهُوَHeأَعْلَمُ(is) most knowing about youبِكُمْ(is) most knowing about youإِذْwhenأَنشَأَكُمHe produced youمِّنَfromٱلْأَرْضِthe earthوَإِذْand whenأَنتُمْyou (were)أَجِنَّةٌۭfetusesفِىinبُطُونِ(the) wombsأُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ ۖ(of) your mothersفَلَاSo (do) notتُزَكُّوٓا۟ascribe purityأَنفُسَكُمْ ۖ(to) yourselvesهُوَHeأَعْلَمُknows bestبِمَنِ(he) whoٱتَّقَىٰٓfears٣٢

Those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, only [committing] slight ones. Indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He was most knowing of you when He produced you from the earth and when you were fetuses in the wombs of your mothers. So do not claim yourselves to be pure; He is most knowing of who fears Him.

٥٣:٣٣

أَفَرَءَيْتَDid you seeٱلَّذِىthe one whoتَوَلَّىٰturned away٣٣

Have you seen the one who turned away

٥٣:٣٤

وَأَعْطَىٰAnd gaveقَلِيلًۭاa littleوَأَكْدَىٰٓand withheld٣٤

And gave a little and [then] refrained?

٥٣:٣٥

أَعِندَهُۥIs with himعِلْمُ(the) knowledgeٱلْغَيْبِ(of) the unseenفَهُوَso heيَرَىٰٓsees٣٥

Does he have knowledge of the unseen, so he sees?

٥٣:٣٦

أَمْOrلَمْnotيُنَبَّأْhe was informedبِمَاwith whatفِى(was) inصُحُفِ(the) Scripturesمُوسَىٰ(of) Musa٣٦

Or has he not been informed of what was in the scriptures of Moses

٥٣:٣٧

وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَAnd Ibrahimٱلَّذِىwhoوَفَّىٰٓfulfilled٣٧

And [of] Abraham, who fulfilled [his obligations] -

٥٣:٣٨

أَلَّاThat notتَزِرُwill bearوَازِرَةٌۭa bearer of burdensوِزْرَ(the) burdenأُخْرَىٰ(of) another٣٨

That no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another

٥٣:٣٩

وَأَنAnd thatلَّيْسَis notلِلْإِنسَـٰنِfor manإِلَّاexceptمَاwhatسَعَىٰhe strives (for)٣٩

And that there is not for man except that [good] for which he strives

٥٣:٤٠

وَأَنَّAnd thatسَعْيَهُۥhis strivingسَوْفَwill soonيُرَىٰbe seen٤٠

And that his effort is going to be seen -

٥٣:٤١

ثُمَّThenيُجْزَىٰهُhe will be recompensed for itٱلْجَزَآءَthe recompenseٱلْأَوْفَىٰthe fullest٤١

Then he will be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense -

٥٣:٤٢

وَأَنَّAnd thatإِلَىٰtoرَبِّكَyour Lordٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ(is) the final goal٤٢

And that to your Lord is the finality

٥٣:٤٣

وَأَنَّهُۥAnd that Heهُوَ[He]أَضْحَكَmakes (one) laughوَأَبْكَىٰand makes (one) weep٤٣

And that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep

٥٣:٤٤

وَأَنَّهُۥAnd that Heهُوَ[He]أَمَاتَcauses deathوَأَحْيَاand gives life٤٤

And that it is He who causes death and gives life

٥٣:٤٥

وَأَنَّهُۥAnd that Heخَلَقَcreatedٱلزَّوْجَيْنِthe pairsٱلذَّكَرَthe maleوَٱلْأُنثَىٰand the female٤٥

And that He creates the two mates - the male and female -

٥٣:٤٦

مِنFromنُّطْفَةٍa semen-dropإِذَاwhenتُمْنَىٰit is emitted٤٦

From a sperm-drop when it is emitted

٥٣:٤٧

وَأَنَّAnd thatعَلَيْهِupon Himٱلنَّشْأَةَ(is) the bringing forthٱلْأُخْرَىٰanother٤٧

And that [incumbent] upon Him is the other [i.e., next] creation.

٥٣:٤٨

وَأَنَّهُۥAnd that Heهُوَ[He]أَغْنَىٰenrichesوَأَقْنَىٰand suffices٤٨

And that it is He who enriches and suffices

٥٣:٤٩

وَأَنَّهُۥAnd that Heهُوَ[He]رَبُّ(is the) Lordٱلشِّعْرَىٰ(of) Sirius٤٩

And that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius.

٥٣:٥٠

وَأَنَّهُۥٓAnd that HeأَهْلَكَdestroyedعَادًاAadٱلْأُولَىٰthe first٥٠

And that He destroyed the first [people of] ʿAad.

٥٣:٥١

وَثَمُودَا۟And Thamudفَمَآso notأَبْقَىٰHe spared٥١

And Thamūd - and He did not spare [them] -

٥٣:٥٢

وَقَوْمَAnd (the) peopleنُوحٍۢ(of) Nuhمِّنbeforeقَبْلُ ۖbeforeإِنَّهُمْIndeed, theyكَانُوا۟they wereهُمْthey wereأَظْلَمَmore unjustوَأَطْغَىٰand more rebellious٥٢

And the people of Noah before. Indeed, it was they who were [even] more unjust and oppressing.

٥٣:٥٣

وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَةَAnd the overturned citiesأَهْوَىٰHe overthrew٥٣

And the overturned towns He hurled down.

٥٣:٥٤

فَغَشَّىٰهَاSo covered themمَاwhatغَشَّىٰcovered٥٤

And covered them by that which He covered.

٥٣:٥٥

فَبِأَىِّThen which (of)ءَالَآءِthe Favorsرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordتَتَمَارَىٰwill you doubt٥٥

Then which of the favors of your Lord do you doubt?

٥٣:٥٦

هَـٰذَاThisنَذِيرٌۭ(is) a warnerمِّنَfromٱلنُّذُرِthe warnersٱلْأُولَىٰٓthe former٥٦

This [Prophet (ﷺ)] is a warner from [i.e., like] the former warners.

٥٣:٥٧

أَزِفَتِHas approachedٱلْـَٔازِفَةُthe Approaching Day٥٧

The Approaching Day has approached.

٥٣:٥٨

لَيْسَNot isلَهَاfor itمِنbesidesدُونِbesidesٱللَّهِAllahكَاشِفَةٌany remover٥٨

Of it, [from those] besides Allāh, there is no remover.

٥٣:٥٩

أَفَمِنْThen ofهَـٰذَاthisٱلْحَدِيثِstatementتَعْجَبُونَyou wonder٥٩

Then at this statement do you wonder?

٥٣:٦٠

وَتَضْحَكُونَAnd you laughوَلَاand (do) notتَبْكُونَweep٦٠

And you laugh and do not weep

٥٣:٦١

وَأَنتُمْWhile youسَـٰمِدُونَamuse (yourselves)٦١

While you are proudly sporting?

٥٣:٦٢

فَٱسْجُدُوا۟So prostrateلِلَّهِto Allahوَٱعْبُدُوا۟ ۩and worship (Him)٦٢

So prostrate to Allāh and worship [Him].

النجم
