القمر

Bismillah

بِسْمِ In (the) name ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

54:1

ٱقْتَرَبَتِ Has come near ٱلسَّاعَةُ the Hour وَٱنشَقَّ and has split ٱلْقَمَرُ the moon ١ (1)

The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two].

54:2

وَإِن And if يَرَوْا۟ they see ءَايَةًۭ a Sign يُعْرِضُوا۟ they turn away وَيَقُولُوا۟ and say سِحْرٌۭ Magic مُّسْتَمِرٌّۭ continuing ٢ (2)

And if they see a sign [i.e., miracle], they turn away and say, "Passing magic."1

54:3

وَكَذَّبُوا۟ And they denied وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ and followed أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ their desires وَكُلُّ but (for) every أَمْرٍۢ matter مُّسْتَقِرٌّۭ (will be a) settlement ٣ (3)

And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement.

54:4

وَلَقَدْ And certainly جَآءَهُم has come to them مِّنَ of ٱلْأَنۢبَآءِ the information مَا wherein فِيهِ wherein مُزْدَجَرٌ (is) deterrence ٤ (4)

And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence.

54:5

حِكْمَةٌۢ Wisdom بَـٰلِغَةٌۭ ۖ perfect فَمَا but not تُغْنِ will avail ٱلنُّذُرُ the warnings ٥ (5)

Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them].

54:6

فَتَوَلَّ So turn away عَنْهُمْ ۘ from them يَوْمَ (The) Day يَدْعُ will call ٱلدَّاعِ the caller إِلَىٰ to شَىْءٍۢ a thing نُّكُرٍ terrible ٦ (6)

So leave them, [O Muḥammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding,

54:7

خُشَّعًا (Will be) humbled أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ their eyes يَخْرُجُونَ they will come forth مِنَ from ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ the graves كَأَنَّهُمْ as if they (were) جَرَادٌۭ locusts مُّنتَشِرٌۭ spreading ٧ (7)

Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading,

54:8

مُّهْطِعِينَ Racing ahead إِلَى towards ٱلدَّاعِ ۖ the caller يَقُولُ Will say ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ the disbelievers هَـٰذَا This يَوْمٌ (is) a Day عَسِرٌۭ difficult ٨ (8)

Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day."

54:9

۞ كَذَّبَتْ Denied قَبْلَهُمْ before them قَوْمُ (the) people نُوحٍۢ (of) Nuh فَكَذَّبُوا۟ and they denied عَبْدَنَا Our slave وَقَالُوا۟ and said مَجْنُونٌۭ A madman وَٱزْدُجِرَ and he was repelled ٩ (9)

The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled.

54:10

فَدَعَا So he called رَبَّهُۥٓ his Lord أَنِّى I am مَغْلُوبٌۭ one overpowered فَٱنتَصِرْ so help ١٠ (10)

So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help."

54:11

فَفَتَحْنَآ So We opened أَبْوَٰبَ (the) gates ٱلسَّمَآءِ (of) heaven بِمَآءٍۢ with water مُّنْهَمِرٍۢ pouring down ١١ (11)

Then We opened the gates of the heaven with rain pouring down

54:12

وَفَجَّرْنَا And We caused to burst ٱلْأَرْضَ the earth عُيُونًۭا (with) springs فَٱلْتَقَى so met ٱلْمَآءُ the water(s) عَلَىٰٓ for أَمْرٍۢ a matter قَدْ already قُدِرَ predestined ١٢ (12)

And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined.

54:13

وَحَمَلْنَـٰهُ And We carried him عَلَىٰ on ذَاتِ (ark) made of planks أَلْوَٰحٍۢ (ark) made of planks وَدُسُرٍۢ and nails ١٣ (13)

And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails,

54:14

تَجْرِى Sailing بِأَعْيُنِنَا before Our eyes جَزَآءًۭ a reward لِّمَن for (he) who كَانَ was كُفِرَ denied ١٤ (14)

Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied.

54:15

وَلَقَد And certainly تَّرَكْنَـٰهَآ We left it ءَايَةًۭ (as) a Sign فَهَلْ so is (there) مِن any مُّدَّكِرٍۢ who will receive admonition ١٥ (15)

And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember?

54:16

فَكَيْفَ So how كَانَ was عَذَابِى My punishment وَنُذُرِ and My warnings ١٦ (16)

And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

54:17

وَلَقَدْ And certainly يَسَّرْنَا We have made easy ٱلْقُرْءَانَ the Quran لِلذِّكْرِ for remembrance فَهَلْ so is (there) مِن any مُّدَّكِرٍۢ who will receive admonition ١٧ (17)

And We have certainly made the Qur’ān easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

54:18

كَذَّبَتْ Denied عَادٌۭ Aad فَكَيْفَ so how كَانَ was عَذَابِى My punishment وَنُذُرِ and My warnings ١٨ (18)

ʿAad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

54:19

إِنَّآ Indeed, We أَرْسَلْنَا [We] sent عَلَيْهِمْ upon them رِيحًۭا a wind صَرْصَرًۭا furious فِى on يَوْمِ a day نَحْسٍۢ (of) misfortune مُّسْتَمِرٍّۢ continuous ١٩ (19)

Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune,

54:20

تَنزِعُ Plucking out ٱلنَّاسَ men كَأَنَّهُمْ as if they (were) أَعْجَازُ trunks نَخْلٍۢ (of) date-palms مُّنقَعِرٍۢ uprooted ٢٠ (20)

Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted.

54:21

فَكَيْفَ So how كَانَ was عَذَابِى My punishment وَنُذُرِ and My warnings ٢١ (21)

And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

54:22

وَلَقَدْ And certainly يَسَّرْنَا We have made easy ٱلْقُرْءَانَ the Quran لِلذِّكْرِ for remembrance فَهَلْ so is (there) مِن any مُّدَّكِرٍۢ who will receive admonition ٢٢ (22)

And We have certainly made the Qur’ān easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

54:23

كَذَّبَتْ Denied ثَمُودُ Thamud بِٱلنُّذُرِ the warnings ٢٣ (23)

Thamūd denied the warning.

54:24

فَقَالُوٓا۟ And said أَبَشَرًۭا Is (it) a human being مِّنَّا among us وَٰحِدًۭا one نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ (that) we should follow him إِنَّآ Indeed, we إِذًۭا then لَّفِى (will be) surely in ضَلَـٰلٍۢ error وَسُعُرٍ and madness ٢٤ (24)

And said, "Is it one human being among us that we should follow? Indeed, we would then be in error and madness.

54:25

أَءُلْقِىَ Has been sent ٱلذِّكْرُ the Reminder عَلَيْهِ to him مِنۢ from بَيْنِنَا among us بَلْ Nay هُوَ he كَذَّابٌ (is) a liar أَشِرٌۭ insolent ٢٥ (25)

Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar."

54:26

سَيَعْلَمُونَ They will know غَدًۭا tomorrow مَّنِ who ٱلْكَذَّابُ (is) the liar ٱلْأَشِرُ the insolent one ٢٦ (26)

They will know tomorrow who is the insolent liar.

54:27

إِنَّا Indeed, We مُرْسِلُوا۟ (are) sending ٱلنَّاقَةِ the she-camel فِتْنَةًۭ (as) a trial لَّهُمْ for them فَٱرْتَقِبْهُمْ so watch them وَٱصْطَبِرْ and be patient ٢٧ (27)

Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient.

54:28

وَنَبِّئْهُمْ And inform them أَنَّ that ٱلْمَآءَ the water قِسْمَةٌۢ (is) to be shared بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ between them كُلُّ each شِرْبٍۢ drink مُّحْتَضَرٌۭ attended ٢٨ (28)

And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn].

54:29

فَنَادَوْا۟ But they called صَاحِبَهُمْ their companion فَتَعَاطَىٰ and he took فَعَقَرَ and hamstrung ٢٩ (29)

But they called their companion, and he dared and hamstrung [her].

54:30

فَكَيْفَ So how كَانَ was عَذَابِى My punishment وَنُذُرِ and My warnings ٣٠ (30)

And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

54:31

إِنَّآ Indeed, We أَرْسَلْنَا [We] sent عَلَيْهِمْ upon them صَيْحَةًۭ thunderous blast وَٰحِدَةًۭ single فَكَانُوا۟ and they became كَهَشِيمِ like dry twig fragments ٱلْمُحْتَظِرِ (used by) a fence builder ٣١ (31)

Indeed, We sent upon them one shriek [i.e., blast from the sky], and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen.

54:32

وَلَقَدْ And certainly يَسَّرْنَا We have made easy ٱلْقُرْءَانَ the Quran لِلذِّكْرِ for remembrance فَهَلْ so is (there) مِن any مُّدَّكِرٍۢ who will receive admonition ٣٢ (32)

And We have certainly made the Qur’ān easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

54:33

كَذَّبَتْ Denied قَوْمُ (the) people لُوطٍۭ (of) Lut بِٱلنُّذُرِ the warnings ٣٣ (33)

The people of Lot denied the warning.

54:34

إِنَّآ Indeed, We أَرْسَلْنَا [We] sent عَلَيْهِمْ upon them حَاصِبًا a storm of stones إِلَّآ except ءَالَ (the) family لُوطٍۢ ۖ (of) Lut نَّجَّيْنَـٰهُم We saved them بِسَحَرٍۢ by dawn ٣٤ (34)

Indeed, We sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lot - We saved them before dawn.

54:35

نِّعْمَةًۭ (As) a favor مِّنْ from عِندِنَا ۚ Us كَذَٰلِكَ Thus نَجْزِى We reward مَن (one) who شَكَرَ (is) grateful ٣٥ (35)

As favor from Us. Thus do We reward he who is grateful.

54:36

وَلَقَدْ And certainly أَنذَرَهُم he warned them بَطْشَتَنَا (of) Our seizure فَتَمَارَوْا۟ but they disputed بِٱلنُّذُرِ the warnings ٣٦ (36)

And he had already warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warning.

54:37

وَلَقَدْ And certainly رَٰوَدُوهُ they demanded from him عَن they demanded from him ضَيْفِهِۦ his guests فَطَمَسْنَآ so We blinded أَعْيُنَهُمْ their eyes فَذُوقُوا۟ So taste عَذَابِى My punishment وَنُذُرِ and My warnings ٣٧ (37)

And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning."

54:38

وَلَقَدْ And certainly صَبَّحَهُم seized them in the morning بُكْرَةً early عَذَابٌۭ a punishment مُّسْتَقِرٌّۭ abiding ٣٨ (38)

And there came upon them by morning an abiding punishment.

54:39

فَذُوقُوا۟ So taste عَذَابِى My punishment وَنُذُرِ and My warnings ٣٩ (39)

So taste My punishment and warning.

54:40

وَلَقَدْ And certainly يَسَّرْنَا We have made easy ٱلْقُرْءَانَ the Quran لِلذِّكْرِ for remembrance فَهَلْ so is (there) مِن any مُّدَّكِرٍۢ who will receive admonition ٤٠ (40)

And We have certainly made the Qur’ān easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

54:41

وَلَقَدْ And certainly جَآءَ came ءَالَ (to the) people فِرْعَوْنَ (of) Firaun ٱلنُّذُرُ warnings ٤١ (41)

And there certainly came to the people of Pharaoh warning.

54:42

كَذَّبُوا۟ They denied بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا Our Signs كُلِّهَا all of them فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُمْ so We seized them أَخْذَ (with) a seizure عَزِيزٍۢ (of) All-Mighty مُّقْتَدِرٍ (the) Powerful One ٤٢ (42)

They denied Our signs, all of them, so We seized them with a seizure of one Exalted in Might and Perfect in Ability.

54:43

أَكُفَّارُكُمْ Are your disbelievers خَيْرٌۭ better مِّنْ than أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكُمْ those أَمْ or لَكُم for you بَرَآءَةٌۭ (is) an exemption فِى in ٱلزُّبُرِ the Scriptures ٤٣ (43)

Are your disbelievers better than those [former ones], or have you immunity in the scriptures?

54:44

أَمْ Or يَقُولُونَ (do) they say نَحْنُ We جَمِيعٌۭ (are) an assembly مُّنتَصِرٌۭ helping (each other) ٤٤ (44)

Or do they say, "We are an assembly supporting [each other]"?

54:45

سَيُهْزَمُ Soon will be defeated ٱلْجَمْعُ (their) assembly وَيُوَلُّونَ and they will turn ٱلدُّبُرَ (their) backs ٤٥ (45)

[Their] assembly will be defeated, and they will turn their backs [in retreat].

54:46

بَلِ Nay ٱلسَّاعَةُ the Hour مَوْعِدُهُمْ (is) their promised time وَٱلسَّاعَةُ and the Hour أَدْهَىٰ (will be) more grievous وَأَمَرُّ and more bitter ٤٦ (46)

But the Hour is their appointment [for due punishment], and the Hour is more disastrous and more bitter.

54:47

إِنَّ Indeed ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ the criminals فِى (are) in ضَلَـٰلٍۢ an error وَسُعُرٍۢ and madness ٤٧ (47)

Indeed, the criminals are in error and madness..

54:48

يَوْمَ (The) Day يُسْحَبُونَ they will be dragged فِى into ٱلنَّارِ the Fire عَلَىٰ on وُجُوهِهِمْ their faces ذُوقُوا۟ Taste مَسَّ (the) touch سَقَرَ (of) Hell ٤٨ (48)

The Day they are dragged into the Fire on their faces [it will be said], "Taste the touch of Saqar."1

54:49

إِنَّا Indeed, [We] كُلَّ every شَىْءٍ thing خَلَقْنَـٰهُ We created it بِقَدَرٍۢ by a measure ٤٩ (49)

Indeed, all things We created with predestination.

54:50

وَمَآ And not أَمْرُنَآ (is) Our Command إِلَّا but وَٰحِدَةٌۭ one كَلَمْحٍۭ like the twinkling بِٱلْبَصَرِ (of) the eye ٥٠ (50)

And Our command is but one, like a glance of the eye.

54:51

وَلَقَدْ And certainly أَهْلَكْنَآ We destroyed أَشْيَاعَكُمْ your kinds فَهَلْ so is (there) مِن any مُّدَّكِرٍۢ who will receive admonition ٥١ (51)

And We have already destroyed your kinds, so is there any who will remember?

54:52

وَكُلُّ And every شَىْءٍۢ thing فَعَلُوهُ they did فِى (is) in ٱلزُّبُرِ the written records ٥٢ (52)

And everything they did is in written records.

54:53

وَكُلُّ And every صَغِيرٍۢ small وَكَبِيرٍۢ and big مُّسْتَطَرٌ (is) written down ٥٣ (53)

And every small and great [thing] is inscribed.

54:54

إِنَّ Indeed ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ the righteous فِى (will be) in جَنَّـٰتٍۢ gardens وَنَهَرٍۢ and river ٥٤ (54)

Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and rivers,

54:55

فِى In مَقْعَدِ a seat صِدْقٍ (of) honor عِندَ near مَلِيكٍۢ a King مُّقْتَدِرٍۭ Most Powerful ٥٥ (55)

In a seat of honor near a Sovereign, Perfect in Ability.
