بسملة

بِسْمِ In (the) name ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

٣١:١

الٓمٓ Alif Lam Meem ١ (1)

Alif, Lām, Meem.

٣١:٢

تِلْكَ These ءَايَـٰتُ (are) Verses ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book ٱلْحَكِيمِ the Wise ٢ (2)

These are verses of the wise Book,

٣١:٣

هُدًۭى A guidance وَرَحْمَةًۭ and a mercy لِّلْمُحْسِنِينَ for the good-doers ٣ (3)

As guidance and mercy for the doers of good

٣١:٤

ٱلَّذِينَ Those who يُقِيمُونَ establish ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer وَيُؤْتُونَ and give ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ zakah وَهُم and they بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ in the Hereafter هُمْ [they] يُوقِنُونَ believe firmly ٤ (4)

Who establish prayer and give zakāh, and they, of the Hereafter, are certain [in faith].

٣١:٥

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those عَلَىٰ (are) on هُدًۭى guidance مِّن from رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ their Lord وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ and those هُمُ [they] ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ (are) the successful ٥ (5)

Those are on [right] guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful.

٣١:٦

وَمِنَ And of ٱلنَّاسِ the mankind مَن (is he) who يَشْتَرِى purchases لَهْوَ idle tales ٱلْحَدِيثِ idle tales لِيُضِلَّ to mislead عَن from سَبِيلِ (the) path ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah بِغَيْرِ without عِلْمٍۢ knowledge وَيَتَّخِذَهَا and takes it هُزُوًا ۚ (in) ridicule أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those لَهُمْ for them عَذَابٌۭ (is) a punishment مُّهِينٌۭ humiliating ٦ (6)

And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech to mislead [others] from the way of Allāh without knowledge and who takes it [i.e., His way] in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment.

٣١:٧

وَإِذَا And when تُتْلَىٰ are recited عَلَيْهِ to him ءَايَـٰتُنَا Our Verses وَلَّىٰ he turns away مُسْتَكْبِرًۭا arrogantly كَأَن as if لَّمْ not يَسْمَعْهَا he (had) heard them كَأَنَّ as if فِىٓ in أُذُنَيْهِ his ears وَقْرًۭا ۖ (is) deafness فَبَشِّرْهُ So give him tidings بِعَذَابٍ of a punishment أَلِيمٍ painful ٧ (7)

And when Our verses are recited to him, he turns away arrogantly as if he had not heard them, as if there was in his ears deafness. So give him tidings of a painful punishment.

٣١:٨

إِنَّ Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds لَهُمْ for them جَنَّـٰتُ (are) Gardens ٱلنَّعِيمِ (of) Delight ٨ (8)

Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds - for them are the Gardens of Pleasure,

٣١:٩

خَـٰلِدِينَ (To) abide forever فِيهَا ۖ in it وَعْدَ (The) Promise of Allah ٱللَّهِ (The) Promise of Allah حَقًّۭا ۚ (is) true وَهُوَ And He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلْحَكِيمُ the All-Wise ٩ (9)

Wherein they abide eternally; [it is] the promise of Allāh [which is] truth. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

٣١:١٠

خَلَقَ He created ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens بِغَيْرِ without عَمَدٍۢ pillars تَرَوْنَهَا ۖ that you see وَأَلْقَىٰ and has cast فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth رَوَٰسِىَ firm mountains أَن lest تَمِيدَ it (might) shake بِكُمْ with you وَبَثَّ and He dispersed فِيهَا in it مِن from كُلِّ every دَآبَّةٍۢ ۚ creature وَأَنزَلْنَا And We sent down مِنَ from ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky مَآءًۭ water فَأَنۢبَتْنَا then We caused to grow فِيهَا therein مِن of كُلِّ every زَوْجٍۢ kind كَرِيمٍ noble ١٠ (10)

He created the heavens without pillars that you see and has cast into the earth firmly set mountains, lest it should shift with you, and dispersed therein from every creature. And We sent down rain from the sky and made grow therein [plants] of every noble kind.

٣١:١١

هَـٰذَا This خَلْقُ (is the) creation ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah فَأَرُونِى So show Me مَاذَا what خَلَقَ have created ٱلَّذِينَ those مِن besides Him دُونِهِۦ ۚ besides Him بَلِ Nay ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ the wrongdoers فِى (are) in ضَلَـٰلٍۢ error مُّبِينٍۢ clear ١١ (11)

This is the creation of Allāh. So show Me what those other than Him have created. Rather, the wrongdoers are in clear error.

٣١:١٢

وَلَقَدْ And verily ءَاتَيْنَا We gave لُقْمَـٰنَ Luqman ٱلْحِكْمَةَ the wisdom أَنِ that ٱشْكُرْ Be grateful لِلَّهِ ۚ to Allah وَمَن And whoever يَشْكُرْ (is) grateful فَإِنَّمَا then only يَشْكُرُ he is grateful لِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ for himself وَمَن And whoever كَفَرَ (is) ungrateful فَإِنَّ then indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah غَنِىٌّ (is) Free of need حَمِيدٌۭ Praiseworthy ١٢ (12)

And We had certainly given Luqmān wisdom [and said], "Be grateful to Allāh." And whoever is grateful is grateful for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever denies [His favor] - then indeed, Allāh is Free of need and Praiseworthy.

٣١:١٣

وَإِذْ And when قَالَ said لُقْمَـٰنُ Luqman لِٱبْنِهِۦ to his son وَهُوَ while he يَعِظُهُۥ (was) instructing him يَـٰبُنَىَّ O my son لَا (Do) not تُشْرِكْ associate partners بِٱللَّهِ ۖ with Allah إِنَّ Indeed ٱلشِّرْكَ associating partners لَظُلْمٌ (is) surely an injustice عَظِيمٌۭ great ١٣ (13)

And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Luqmān said to his son while he was instructing him, "O my son, do not associate [anything] with Allāh. Indeed, association [with Him] is great injustice."

٣١:١٤

وَوَصَّيْنَا And We have enjoined ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ (upon) man بِوَٰلِدَيْهِ for his parents حَمَلَتْهُ carried him أُمُّهُۥ his mother وَهْنًا (in) weakness عَلَىٰ upon وَهْنٍۢ weakness وَفِصَـٰلُهُۥ and his weaning فِى (is) in عَامَيْنِ two years أَنِ that ٱشْكُرْ Be grateful لِى to Me وَلِوَٰلِدَيْكَ and to your parents إِلَىَّ towards Me ٱلْمَصِيرُ (is) the destination ١٤ (14)

And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.

٣١:١٥

وَإِن But if جَـٰهَدَاكَ they strive against you عَلَىٰٓ on أَن that تُشْرِكَ you associate partners بِى with Me مَا what لَيْسَ not لَكَ you have بِهِۦ of it عِلْمٌۭ any knowledge فَلَا then (do) not تُطِعْهُمَا ۖ obey both of them وَصَاحِبْهُمَا But accompany them فِى in ٱلدُّنْيَا the world مَعْرُوفًۭا ۖ (with) kindness وَٱتَّبِعْ and follow سَبِيلَ (the) path مَنْ (of him) who أَنَابَ turns إِلَىَّ ۚ to Me ثُمَّ Then إِلَىَّ towards Me مَرْجِعُكُمْ (is) your return فَأُنَبِّئُكُم then I will inform you بِمَا of what كُنتُمْ you used (to) تَعْمَلُونَ do ١٥ (15)

But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.

٣١:١٦

يَـٰبُنَىَّ O my son إِنَّهَآ Indeed it إِن if تَكُ it be مِثْقَالَ (the) weight حَبَّةٍۢ (of) a grain مِّنْ of خَرْدَلٍۢ a mustard seed فَتَكُن and it be فِى in صَخْرَةٍ a rock أَوْ or فِى in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens أَوْ or فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth يَأْتِ Allah will bring it forth بِهَا Allah will bring it forth ٱللَّهُ ۚ Allah will bring it forth إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah لَطِيفٌ (is) All-Subtle خَبِيرٌۭ All-Aware ١٦ (16)

[And Luqmān said], "O my son, indeed if it [i.e., a wrong] should be the weight of a mustard seed and should be within a rock or [anywhere] in the heavens or in the earth, Allāh will bring it forth. Indeed, Allāh is Subtle and Aware.

٣١:١٧

يَـٰبُنَىَّ O my son أَقِمِ Establish ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer وَأْمُرْ and enjoin بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ [with] the right وَٱنْهَ and forbid عَنِ from ٱلْمُنكَرِ the wrong وَٱصْبِرْ and be patient عَلَىٰ over مَآ what أَصَابَكَ ۖ befalls you إِنَّ Indeed ذَٰلِكَ that مِنْ (is) of عَزْمِ the matters requiring determination ٱلْأُمُورِ the matters requiring determination ١٧ (17)

O my son, establish prayer, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and be patient over what befalls you. Indeed, [all] that is of the matters [requiring] resolve.

٣١:١٨

وَلَا And (do) not تُصَعِّرْ turn خَدَّكَ your cheek لِلنَّاسِ from men وَلَا and (do) not تَمْشِ walk فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth مَرَحًا ۖ exultantly إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah لَا (does) not يُحِبُّ like كُلَّ every مُخْتَالٍۢ self-conceited فَخُورٍۢ boaster ١٨ (18)

And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allāh does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.

٣١:١٩

وَٱقْصِدْ And be moderate فِى in مَشْيِكَ your pace وَٱغْضُضْ and lower مِن [of] صَوْتِكَ ۚ your voice إِنَّ Indeed أَنكَرَ (the) harshest ٱلْأَصْوَٰتِ (of all) sounds لَصَوْتُ (is) surely (the) voice ٱلْحَمِيرِ (of) the donkeys ١٩ (19)

And be moderate in your pace and lower your voice; indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of donkeys."

٣١:٢٠

أَلَمْ Do not تَرَوْا۟ you see أَنَّ that ٱللَّهَ Allah سَخَّرَ has subjected لَكُم to you مَّا whatever فِى (is) in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَمَا and whatever فِى (is) in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth وَأَسْبَغَ and amply bestowed عَلَيْكُمْ upon you نِعَمَهُۥ His Bounties ظَـٰهِرَةًۭ apparent وَبَاطِنَةًۭ ۗ and hidden وَمِنَ But of ٱلنَّاسِ the people مَن (is he) who يُجَـٰدِلُ disputes فِى about ٱللَّهِ Allah بِغَيْرِ without عِلْمٍۢ knowledge وَلَا and not هُدًۭى guidance وَلَا and not كِتَـٰبٍۢ a book مُّنِيرٍۢ enlightening ٢٠ (20)

Do you not see that Allāh has made subject to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth and amply bestowed upon you His favors, [both] apparent and unapparent? But of the people is he who disputes about Allāh without knowledge or guidance or an enlightening Book [from Him].

٣١:٢١

وَإِذَا And when قِيلَ it is said لَهُمُ to them ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ Follow مَآ what أَنزَلَ Allah (has) revealed ٱللَّهُ Allah (has) revealed قَالُوا۟ they say بَلْ Nay نَتَّبِعُ we will follow مَا what وَجَدْنَا we found عَلَيْهِ on it ءَابَآءَنَآ ۚ our forefathers أَوَلَوْ Even if كَانَ Shaitaan was ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ Shaitaan was يَدْعُوهُمْ (to) call them إِلَىٰ to عَذَابِ (the) punishment ٱلسَّعِيرِ (of) the Blaze ٢١ (21)

And when it is said to them, "Follow what Allāh has revealed," they say, "Rather, we will follow that upon which we found our fathers." Even if Satan was inviting them to the punishment of the Blaze?

٣١:٢٢

۞ وَمَن And whoever يُسْلِمْ submits وَجْهَهُۥٓ his face إِلَى to ٱللَّهِ Allah وَهُوَ while he مُحْسِنٌۭ (is) a good-doer فَقَدِ then indeed ٱسْتَمْسَكَ he has grasped بِٱلْعُرْوَةِ the handhold ٱلْوُثْقَىٰ ۗ the most trustworthy وَإِلَى And to ٱللَّهِ Allah عَـٰقِبَةُ (is the) end ٱلْأُمُورِ (of) the matters ٢٢ (22)

And whoever submits his face [i.e., self] to Allāh while he is a doer of good - then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold. And to Allāh will be the outcome of [all] matters.

٣١:٢٣

وَمَن And whoever كَفَرَ disbelieves فَلَا let not يَحْزُنكَ grieve you كُفْرُهُۥٓ ۚ his disbelief إِلَيْنَا To Us مَرْجِعُهُمْ (is) their return فَنُنَبِّئُهُم then We will inform them بِمَا of what عَمِلُوٓا۟ ۚ they did إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah عَلِيمٌۢ (is) the All-Knower بِذَاتِ of what ٱلصُّدُورِ (is in) the breasts ٢٣ (23)

And whoever has disbelieved - let not his disbelief grieve you. To Us is their return, and We will inform them of what they did. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing of that within the breasts.

٣١:٢٤

نُمَتِّعُهُمْ We grant them enjoyment قَلِيلًۭا (for) a little ثُمَّ then نَضْطَرُّهُمْ We will force them إِلَىٰ to عَذَابٍ a punishment غَلِيظٍۢ severe ٢٤ (24)

We grant them enjoyment for a little; then We will force them to a massive punishment.

٣١:٢٥

وَلَئِن And if سَأَلْتَهُم you ask them مَّنْ Who خَلَقَ created ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضَ and the earth لَيَقُولُنَّ They will surely say ٱللَّهُ ۚ Allah قُلِ Say ٱلْحَمْدُ All praises لِلَّهِ ۚ (are) for Allah بَلْ But أَكْثَرُهُمْ most of them لَا (do) not يَعْلَمُونَ know ٢٥ (25)

And if you asked them, "Who created the heavens and earth?" they would surely say, "Allāh." Say, "[All] praise is [due] to Allāh"; but most of them do not know.

٣١:٢٦

لِلَّهِ To Allah (belongs) مَا whatever فِى (is) in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ and the earth إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah هُوَ He ٱلْغَنِىُّ (is) Free of need ٱلْحَمِيدُ the Praiseworthy ٢٦ (26)

To Allāh belongs whatever is in the heavens and earth. Indeed, Allāh is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.

٣١:٢٧

وَلَوْ And if أَنَّمَا whatever فِى (is) in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth مِن of شَجَرَةٍ (the) trees أَقْلَـٰمٌۭ (were) pens وَٱلْبَحْرُ and the sea يَمُدُّهُۥ (to) add to it مِنۢ after it بَعْدِهِۦ after it سَبْعَةُ seven أَبْحُرٍۢ seas مَّا not نَفِدَتْ would be exhausted كَلِمَـٰتُ (the) Words ٱللَّهِ ۗ (of) Allah إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah عَزِيزٌ (is) All-Mighty حَكِيمٌۭ All-Wise ٢٧ (27)

And if whatever trees upon the earth were pens and the sea [was ink], replenished thereafter by seven [more] seas, the words of Allāh would not be exhausted. Indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.

٣١:٢٨

مَّا Not خَلْقُكُمْ (is) your creation وَلَا and not بَعْثُكُمْ your resurrection إِلَّا but كَنَفْسٍۢ as a soul وَٰحِدَةٍ ۗ single إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah سَمِيعٌۢ (is) All-Hearer بَصِيرٌ All-Seer ٢٨ (28)

Your creation and your resurrection will not be but as that of a single soul. Indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Seeing.

٣١:٢٩

أَلَمْ Do not تَرَ you see أَنَّ that ٱللَّهَ Allah يُولِجُ causes to enter ٱلَّيْلَ the night فِى into ٱلنَّهَارِ the day وَيُولِجُ and causes to enter ٱلنَّهَارَ the day فِى into ٱلَّيْلِ the night وَسَخَّرَ and has subjected ٱلشَّمْسَ the sun وَٱلْقَمَرَ and the moon كُلٌّۭ each يَجْرِىٓ moving إِلَىٰٓ for أَجَلٍۢ a term مُّسَمًّۭى appointed وَأَنَّ and that ٱللَّهَ Allah بِمَا of what تَعْمَلُونَ you do خَبِيرٌۭ (is) All-Aware ٢٩ (29)

Do you not see [i.e., know] that Allāh causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term, and that Allāh, of whatever you do, is Aware?

٣١:٣٠

ذَٰلِكَ That بِأَنَّ (is) because ٱللَّهَ Allah هُوَ He ٱلْحَقُّ (is) the Truth وَأَنَّ and that مَا what يَدْعُونَ they call مِن besides Him دُونِهِ besides Him ٱلْبَـٰطِلُ (is) [the] falsehood وَأَنَّ and that ٱللَّهَ Allah هُوَ He ٱلْعَلِىُّ (is) the Most High ٱلْكَبِيرُ the Most Great ٣٠ (30)

That is because Allāh is the True Reality, and that what they call upon other than Him is falsehood, and because Allāh is the Most High, the Grand.

٣١:٣١

أَلَمْ Do not تَرَ you see أَنَّ that ٱلْفُلْكَ the ships تَجْرِى sail فِى through ٱلْبَحْرِ the sea بِنِعْمَتِ by (the) Grace ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah لِيُرِيَكُم that He may show you مِّنْ of ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓ ۚ His Signs إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) Signs لِّكُلِّ for everyone صَبَّارٍۢ (who is) patient شَكُورٍۢ grateful ٣١ (31)

Do you not see that ships sail through the sea by the favor of Allāh that He may show you of His signs? Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.

٣١:٣٢

وَإِذَا And when غَشِيَهُم covers them مَّوْجٌۭ a wave كَٱلظُّلَلِ like canopies دَعَوُا۟ they call ٱللَّهَ Allah مُخْلِصِينَ (being) sincere لَهُ to Him ٱلدِّينَ (in) religion فَلَمَّا But when نَجَّىٰهُمْ He delivers them إِلَى to ٱلْبَرِّ the land فَمِنْهُم then among them مُّقْتَصِدٌۭ ۚ (some are) moderate وَمَا And not يَجْحَدُ deny بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ Our Signs إِلَّا except كُلُّ every خَتَّارٍۢ traitor كَفُورٍۢ ungrateful ٣٢ (32)

And when waves come over them like canopies, they supplicate Allāh, sincere to Him in religion [i.e., faith]. But when He delivers them to the land, there are [some] of them who are moderate [in faith]. And none rejects Our signs except everyone treacherous and ungrateful.

٣١:٣٣

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O ٱلنَّاسُ mankind ٱتَّقُوا۟ Fear رَبَّكُمْ your Lord وَٱخْشَوْا۟ and fear يَوْمًۭا a Day لَّا not يَجْزِى can avail وَالِدٌ a father عَن [for] وَلَدِهِۦ his son وَلَا and not مَوْلُودٌ a son هُوَ he جَازٍ (can) avail عَن [for] وَالِدِهِۦ his father شَيْـًٔا ۚ anything إِنَّ Indeed وَعْدَ (the) Promise ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah حَقٌّۭ ۖ (is) True فَلَا so let not deceive you تَغُرَّنَّكُمُ so let not deceive you ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ the life ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world وَلَا and let not deceive you يَغُرَّنَّكُم and let not deceive you بِٱللَّهِ about Allah ٱلْغَرُورُ the deceiver ٣٣ (33)

O mankind, fear your Lord and fear a Day when no father will avail his son, nor will a son avail his father at all. Indeed, the promise of Allāh is truth, so let not the worldly life delude you and be not deceived about Allāh by the Deceiver [i.e., Satan].

٣١:٣٤

إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah عِندَهُۥ with Him عِلْمُ (is the) knowledge ٱلسَّاعَةِ (of) the Hour وَيُنَزِّلُ and He sends down ٱلْغَيْثَ the rain وَيَعْلَمُ and knows مَا what فِى (is) in ٱلْأَرْحَامِ ۖ the wombs وَمَا And not تَدْرِى knows نَفْسٌۭ any soul مَّاذَا what تَكْسِبُ it will earn غَدًۭا ۖ tomorrow وَمَا and not تَدْرِى knows نَفْسٌۢ any soul بِأَىِّ in what أَرْضٍۢ land تَمُوتُ ۚ it will die إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah عَلِيمٌ (is) All-Knower خَبِيرٌۢ All-Aware ٣٤ (34)

Indeed, Allāh [alone] has knowledge of the Hour and sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs. And no soul perceives what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul perceives in what land it will die. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing and Aware.
