Bismillah
بِسْمِ In (the) name bis'mi
In (the) name
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
31:1
الٓمٓ Alif Lam Meem alif-lam-meem
Alif Lam Meem
١ (1)
(1)
Alif, Lām, Meem.
31:2
تِلْكَ These til'ka
These
ءَايَـٰتُ (are) Verses āyātu
(are) Verses
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book
ٱلْحَكِيمِ the Wise l-ḥakīmi
the Wise
٢ (2)
(2)
These are verses of the wise Book,
31:3
هُدًۭى A guidance hudan
A guidance
وَرَحْمَةًۭ and a mercy waraḥmatan
and a mercy
لِّلْمُحْسِنِينَ for the good-doers lil'muḥ'sinīna
for the good-doers
٣ (3)
(3)
As guidance and mercy for the doers of good
31:4
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who
يُقِيمُونَ establish yuqīmūna
establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer l-ṣalata
the prayer
وَيُؤْتُونَ and give wayu'tūna
and give
ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ zakah l-zakata
zakah
وَهُم and they wahum
and they
بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ in the Hereafter bil-ākhirati
in the Hereafter
هُمْ [they] hum
[they]
يُوقِنُونَ believe firmly yūqinūna
believe firmly
٤ (4)
(4)
Who establish prayer and give zakāh, and they, of the Hereafter, are certain [in faith].
31:5
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
عَلَىٰ (are) on ʿalā
(are) on
هُدًۭى guidance hudan
guidance
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ their Lord rabbihim
their Lord
وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ and those wa-ulāika
and those
هُمُ [they] humu
[they]
ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ (are) the successful l-muf'liḥūna
(are) the successful
٥ (5)
(5)
Those are on [right] guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful.
31:6
وَمِنَ And of wamina
And of
ٱلنَّاسِ the mankind l-nāsi
the mankind
مَن (is he) who man
(is he) who
يَشْتَرِى purchases yashtarī
purchases
لَهْوَ idle tales lahwa
idle tales
ٱلْحَدِيثِ idle tales l-ḥadīthi
idle tales
لِيُضِلَّ to mislead liyuḍilla
to mislead
عَن from ʿan
from
سَبِيلِ (the) path sabīli
(the) path
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
بِغَيْرِ without bighayri
without
عِلْمٍۢ knowledge ʿil'min
knowledge
وَيَتَّخِذَهَا and takes it wayattakhidhahā
and takes it
هُزُوًا ۚ (in) ridicule huzuwan
(in) ridicule
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
عَذَابٌۭ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
مُّهِينٌۭ humiliating muhīnun
humiliating
٦ (6)
(6)
And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech to mislead [others] from the way of Allāh without knowledge and who takes it [i.e., His way] in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment.
31:7
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when
تُتْلَىٰ are recited tut'lā
are recited
عَلَيْهِ to him ʿalayhi
to him
ءَايَـٰتُنَا Our Verses āyātunā
Our Verses
وَلَّىٰ he turns away wallā
he turns away
مُسْتَكْبِرًۭا arrogantly mus'takbiran
arrogantly
كَأَن as if ka-an
as if
لَّمْ not lam
not
يَسْمَعْهَا he (had) heard them yasmaʿhā
he (had) heard them
كَأَنَّ as if ka-anna
as if
فِىٓ in
in
أُذُنَيْهِ his ears udhunayhi
his ears
وَقْرًۭا ۖ (is) deafness waqran
(is) deafness
فَبَشِّرْهُ So give him tidings fabashir'hu
So give him tidings
بِعَذَابٍ of a punishment biʿadhābin
of a punishment
أَلِيمٍ painful alīmin
painful
٧ (7)
(7)
And when Our verses are recited to him, he turns away arrogantly as if he had not heard them, as if there was in his ears deafness. So give him tidings of a painful punishment.
31:8
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
جَنَّـٰتُ (are) Gardens jannātu
(are) Gardens
ٱلنَّعِيمِ (of) Delight l-naʿīmi
(of) Delight
٨ (8)
(8)
Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds - for them are the Gardens of Pleasure,
31:9
خَـٰلِدِينَ (To) abide forever khālidīna
(To) abide forever
فِيهَا ۖ in it fīhā
in it
وَعْدَ (The) Promise of Allah waʿda
(The) Promise of Allah
ٱللَّهِ (The) Promise of Allah l-lahi
(The) Promise of Allah
حَقًّۭا ۚ (is) true ḥaqqan
(is) true
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzu
(is) the All-Mighty
ٱلْحَكِيمُ the All-Wise l-ḥakīmu
the All-Wise
٩ (9)
(9)
Wherein they abide eternally; [it is] the promise of Allāh [which is] truth. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
31:10
خَلَقَ He created khalaqa
He created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
بِغَيْرِ without bighayri
without
عَمَدٍۢ pillars ʿamadin
pillars
تَرَوْنَهَا ۖ that you see tarawnahā
that you see
وَأَلْقَىٰ and has cast wa-alqā
and has cast
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
رَوَٰسِىَ firm mountains rawāsiya
firm mountains
أَن lest an
lest
تَمِيدَ it (might) shake tamīda
it (might) shake
بِكُمْ with you bikum
with you
وَبَثَّ and He dispersed wabatha
and He dispersed
فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it
مِن from min
from
كُلِّ every kulli
every
دَآبَّةٍۢ ۚ creature dābbatin
creature
وَأَنزَلْنَا And We sent down wa-anzalnā
And We sent down
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky l-samāi
the sky
مَآءًۭ water māan
water
فَأَنۢبَتْنَا then We caused to grow fa-anbatnā
then We caused to grow
فِيهَا therein fīhā
therein
مِن of min
of
كُلِّ every kulli
every
زَوْجٍۢ kind zawjin
kind
كَرِيمٍ noble karīmin
noble
١٠ (10)
(10)
He created the heavens without pillars that you see and has cast into the earth firmly set mountains, lest it should shift with you, and dispersed therein from every creature. And We sent down rain from the sky and made grow therein [plants] of every noble kind.
31:11
هَـٰذَا This hādhā
This
خَلْقُ (is the) creation khalqu
(is the) creation
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
فَأَرُونِى So show Me fa-arūnī
So show Me
مَاذَا what mādhā
what
خَلَقَ have created khalaqa
have created
ٱلَّذِينَ those alladhīna
those
مِن besides Him min
besides Him
دُونِهِۦ ۚ besides Him dūnihi
besides Him
بَلِ Nay bali
Nay
ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimūna
the wrongdoers
فِى (are) in
(are) in
ضَلَـٰلٍۢ error ḍalālin
error
مُّبِينٍۢ clear mubīnin
clear
١١ (11)
(11)
This is the creation of Allāh. So show Me what those other than Him have created. Rather, the wrongdoers are in clear error.
31:12
وَلَقَدْ And verily walaqad
And verily
ءَاتَيْنَا We gave ātaynā
We gave
لُقْمَـٰنَ Luqman luq'māna
Luqman
ٱلْحِكْمَةَ the wisdom l-ḥik'mata
the wisdom
أَنِ that ani
that
ٱشْكُرْ Be grateful ush'kur
Be grateful
لِلَّهِ ۚ to Allah lillahi
to Allah
وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever
يَشْكُرْ (is) grateful yashkur
(is) grateful
فَإِنَّمَا then only fa-innamā
then only
يَشْكُرُ he is grateful yashkuru
he is grateful
لِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ for himself linafsihi
for himself
وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever
كَفَرَ (is) ungrateful kafara
(is) ungrateful
فَإِنَّ then indeed fa-inna
then indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
غَنِىٌّ (is) Free of need ghaniyyun
(is) Free of need
حَمِيدٌۭ Praiseworthy ḥamīdun
Praiseworthy
١٢ (12)
(12)
And We had certainly given Luqmān wisdom [and said], "Be grateful to Allāh." And whoever is grateful is grateful for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever denies [His favor] - then indeed, Allāh is Free of need and Praiseworthy.
31:13
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when
قَالَ said qāla
said
لُقْمَـٰنُ Luqman luq'mānu
Luqman
لِٱبْنِهِۦ to his son li-ib'nihi
to his son
وَهُوَ while he wahuwa
while he
يَعِظُهُۥ (was) instructing him yaʿiẓuhu
(was) instructing him
يَـٰبُنَىَّ O my son yābunayya
O my son
لَا (Do) not
(Do) not
تُشْرِكْ associate partners tush'rik
associate partners
بِٱللَّهِ ۖ with Allah bil-lahi
with Allah
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلشِّرْكَ associating partners l-shir'ka
associating partners
لَظُلْمٌ (is) surely an injustice laẓul'mun
(is) surely an injustice
عَظِيمٌۭ great ʿaẓīmun
great
١٣ (13)
(13)
And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Luqmān said to his son while he was instructing him, "O my son, do not associate [anything] with Allāh. Indeed, association [with Him] is great injustice."
31:14
وَوَصَّيْنَا And We have enjoined wawaṣṣaynā
And We have enjoined
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ (upon) man l-insāna
(upon) man
بِوَٰلِدَيْهِ for his parents biwālidayhi
for his parents
حَمَلَتْهُ carried him ḥamalathu
carried him
أُمُّهُۥ his mother ummuhu
his mother
وَهْنًا (in) weakness wahnan
(in) weakness
عَلَىٰ upon ʿalā
upon
وَهْنٍۢ weakness wahnin
weakness
وَفِصَـٰلُهُۥ and his weaning wafiṣāluhu
and his weaning
فِى (is) in
(is) in
عَامَيْنِ two years ʿāmayni
two years
أَنِ that ani
that
ٱشْكُرْ Be grateful ush'kur
Be grateful
لِى to Me
to Me
وَلِوَٰلِدَيْكَ and to your parents waliwālidayka
and to your parents
إِلَىَّ towards Me ilayya
towards Me
ٱلْمَصِيرُ (is) the destination l-maṣīru
(is) the destination
١٤ (14)
(14)
And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.
31:15
وَإِن But if wa-in
But if
جَـٰهَدَاكَ they strive against you jāhadāka
they strive against you
عَلَىٰٓ on ʿalā
on
أَن that an
that
تُشْرِكَ you associate partners tush'rika
you associate partners
بِى with Me
with Me
مَا what
what
لَيْسَ not laysa
not
لَكَ you have laka
you have
بِهِۦ of it bihi
of it
عِلْمٌۭ any knowledge ʿil'mun
any knowledge
فَلَا then (do) not falā
then (do) not
تُطِعْهُمَا ۖ obey both of them tuṭiʿ'humā
obey both of them
وَصَاحِبْهُمَا But accompany them waṣāḥib'humā
But accompany them
فِى in
in
ٱلدُّنْيَا the world l-dun'yā
the world
مَعْرُوفًۭا ۖ (with) kindness maʿrūfan
(with) kindness
وَٱتَّبِعْ and follow wa-ittabiʿ
and follow
سَبِيلَ (the) path sabīla
(the) path
مَنْ (of him) who man
(of him) who
أَنَابَ turns anāba
turns
إِلَىَّ ۚ to Me ilayya
to Me
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
إِلَىَّ towards Me ilayya
towards Me
مَرْجِعُكُمْ (is) your return marjiʿukum
(is) your return
فَأُنَبِّئُكُم then I will inform you fa-unabbi-ukum
then I will inform you
بِمَا of what bimā
of what
كُنتُمْ you used (to) kuntum
you used (to)
تَعْمَلُونَ do taʿmalūna
do
١٥ (15)
(15)
But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.
31:16
يَـٰبُنَىَّ O my son yābunayya
O my son
إِنَّهَآ Indeed it innahā
Indeed it
إِن if in
if
تَكُ it be taku
it be
مِثْقَالَ (the) weight mith'qāla
(the) weight
حَبَّةٍۢ (of) a grain ḥabbatin
(of) a grain
مِّنْ of min
of
خَرْدَلٍۢ a mustard seed khardalin
a mustard seed
فَتَكُن and it be fatakun
and it be
فِى in
in
صَخْرَةٍ a rock ṣakhratin
a rock
أَوْ or aw
or
فِى in
in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
أَوْ or aw
or
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
يَأْتِ Allah will bring it forth yati
Allah will bring it forth
بِهَا Allah will bring it forth bihā
Allah will bring it forth
ٱللَّهُ ۚ Allah will bring it forth l-lahu
Allah will bring it forth
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
لَطِيفٌ (is) All-Subtle laṭīfun
(is) All-Subtle
خَبِيرٌۭ All-Aware khabīrun
All-Aware
١٦ (16)
(16)
[And Luqmān said], "O my son, indeed if it [i.e., a wrong] should be the weight of a mustard seed and should be within a rock or [anywhere] in the heavens or in the earth, Allāh will bring it forth. Indeed, Allāh is Subtle and Aware.
31:17
يَـٰبُنَىَّ O my son yābunayya
O my son
أَقِمِ Establish aqimi
Establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer l-ṣalata
the prayer
وَأْمُرْ and enjoin wamur
and enjoin
بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ [with] the right bil-maʿrūfi
[with] the right
وَٱنْهَ and forbid wa-in'ha
and forbid
عَنِ from ʿani
from
ٱلْمُنكَرِ the wrong l-munkari
the wrong
وَٱصْبِرْ and be patient wa-iṣ'bir
and be patient
عَلَىٰ over ʿalā
over
مَآ what
what
أَصَابَكَ ۖ befalls you aṣābaka
befalls you
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that
مِنْ (is) of min
(is) of
عَزْمِ the matters requiring determination ʿazmi
the matters requiring determination
ٱلْأُمُورِ the matters requiring determination l-umūri
the matters requiring determination
١٧ (17)
(17)
O my son, establish prayer, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and be patient over what befalls you. Indeed, [all] that is of the matters [requiring] resolve.
31:18
وَلَا And (do) not walā
And (do) not
تُصَعِّرْ turn tuṣaʿʿir
turn
خَدَّكَ your cheek khaddaka
your cheek
لِلنَّاسِ from men lilnnāsi
from men
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تَمْشِ walk tamshi
walk
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
مَرَحًا ۖ exultantly maraḥan
exultantly
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
لَا (does) not
(does) not
يُحِبُّ like yuḥibbu
like
كُلَّ every kulla
every
مُخْتَالٍۢ self-conceited mukh'tālin
self-conceited
فَخُورٍۢ boaster fakhūrin
boaster
١٨ (18)
(18)
And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allāh does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.
31:19
وَٱقْصِدْ And be moderate wa-iq'ṣid
And be moderate
فِى in
in
مَشْيِكَ your pace mashyika
your pace
وَٱغْضُضْ and lower wa-ugh'ḍuḍ
and lower
مِن [of] min
[of]
صَوْتِكَ ۚ your voice ṣawtika
your voice
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
أَنكَرَ (the) harshest ankara
(the) harshest
ٱلْأَصْوَٰتِ (of all) sounds l-aṣwāti
(of all) sounds
لَصَوْتُ (is) surely (the) voice laṣawtu
(is) surely (the) voice
ٱلْحَمِيرِ (of) the donkeys l-ḥamīri
(of) the donkeys
١٩ (19)
(19)
And be moderate in your pace and lower your voice; indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of donkeys."
31:20
أَلَمْ Do not alam
Do not
تَرَوْا۟ you see taraw
you see
أَنَّ that anna
that
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
سَخَّرَ has subjected sakhara
has subjected
لَكُم to you lakum
to you
مَّا whatever
whatever
فِى (is) in
(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَمَا and whatever wamā
and whatever
فِى (is) in
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
وَأَسْبَغَ and amply bestowed wa-asbagha
and amply bestowed
عَلَيْكُمْ upon you ʿalaykum
upon you
نِعَمَهُۥ His Bounties niʿamahu
His Bounties
ظَـٰهِرَةًۭ apparent ẓāhiratan
apparent
وَبَاطِنَةًۭ ۗ and hidden wabāṭinatan
and hidden
وَمِنَ But of wamina
But of
ٱلنَّاسِ the people l-nāsi
the people
مَن (is he) who man
(is he) who
يُجَـٰدِلُ disputes yujādilu
disputes
فِى about
about
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
بِغَيْرِ without bighayri
without
عِلْمٍۢ knowledge ʿil'min
knowledge
وَلَا and not walā
and not
هُدًۭى guidance hudan
guidance
وَلَا and not walā
and not
كِتَـٰبٍۢ a book kitābin
a book
مُّنِيرٍۢ enlightening munīrin
enlightening
٢٠ (20)
(20)
Do you not see that Allāh has made subject to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth and amply bestowed upon you His favors, [both] apparent and unapparent? But of the people is he who disputes about Allāh without knowledge or guidance or an enlightening Book [from Him].
31:21
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when
قِيلَ it is said qīla
it is said
لَهُمُ to them lahumu
to them
ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ Follow ittabiʿū
Follow
مَآ what
what
أَنزَلَ Allah (has) revealed anzala
Allah (has) revealed
ٱللَّهُ Allah (has) revealed l-lahu
Allah (has) revealed
قَالُوا۟ they say qālū
they say
بَلْ Nay bal
Nay
نَتَّبِعُ we will follow nattabiʿu
we will follow
مَا what
what
وَجَدْنَا we found wajadnā
we found
عَلَيْهِ on it ʿalayhi
on it
ءَابَآءَنَآ ۚ our forefathers ābāanā
our forefathers
أَوَلَوْ Even if awalaw
Even if
كَانَ Shaitaan was kāna
Shaitaan was
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ Shaitaan was l-shayṭānu
Shaitaan was
يَدْعُوهُمْ (to) call them yadʿūhum
(to) call them
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
عَذَابِ (the) punishment ʿadhābi
(the) punishment
ٱلسَّعِيرِ (of) the Blaze l-saʿīri
(of) the Blaze
٢١ (21)
(21)
And when it is said to them, "Follow what Allāh has revealed," they say, "Rather, we will follow that upon which we found our fathers." Even if Satan was inviting them to the punishment of the Blaze?
31:22
۞ وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever
يُسْلِمْ submits yus'lim
submits
وَجْهَهُۥٓ his face wajhahu
his face
إِلَى to ilā
to
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
وَهُوَ while he wahuwa
while he
مُحْسِنٌۭ (is) a good-doer muḥ'sinun
(is) a good-doer
فَقَدِ then indeed faqadi
then indeed
ٱسْتَمْسَكَ he has grasped is'tamsaka
he has grasped
بِٱلْعُرْوَةِ the handhold bil-ʿur'wati
the handhold
ٱلْوُثْقَىٰ ۗ the most trustworthy l-wuth'qā
the most trustworthy
وَإِلَى And to wa-ilā
And to
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
عَـٰقِبَةُ (is the) end ʿāqibatu
(is the) end
ٱلْأُمُورِ (of) the matters l-umūri
(of) the matters
٢٢ (22)
(22)
And whoever submits his face [i.e., self] to Allāh while he is a doer of good - then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold. And to Allāh will be the outcome of [all] matters.
31:23
وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever
كَفَرَ disbelieves kafara
disbelieves
فَلَا let not falā
let not
يَحْزُنكَ grieve you yaḥzunka
grieve you
كُفْرُهُۥٓ ۚ his disbelief kuf'ruhu
his disbelief
إِلَيْنَا To Us ilaynā
To Us
مَرْجِعُهُمْ (is) their return marjiʿuhum
(is) their return
فَنُنَبِّئُهُم then We will inform them fanunabbi-uhum
then We will inform them
بِمَا of what bimā
of what
عَمِلُوٓا۟ ۚ they did ʿamilū
they did
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
عَلِيمٌۢ (is) the All-Knower ʿalīmun
(is) the All-Knower
بِذَاتِ of what bidhāti
of what
ٱلصُّدُورِ (is in) the breasts l-ṣudūri
(is in) the breasts
٢٣ (23)
(23)
And whoever has disbelieved - let not his disbelief grieve you. To Us is their return, and We will inform them of what they did. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing of that within the breasts.
31:24
نُمَتِّعُهُمْ We grant them enjoyment numattiʿuhum
We grant them enjoyment
قَلِيلًۭا (for) a little qalīlan
(for) a little
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
نَضْطَرُّهُمْ We will force them naḍṭarruhum
We will force them
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
عَذَابٍ a punishment ʿadhābin
a punishment
غَلِيظٍۢ severe ghalīẓin
severe
٢٤ (24)
(24)
We grant them enjoyment for a little; then We will force them to a massive punishment.
31:25
وَلَئِن And if wala-in
And if
سَأَلْتَهُم you ask them sa-altahum
you ask them
مَّنْ Who man
Who
خَلَقَ created khalaqa
created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَ and the earth wal-arḍa
and the earth
لَيَقُولُنَّ They will surely say layaqūlunna
They will surely say
ٱللَّهُ ۚ Allah l-lahu
Allah
قُلِ Say quli
Say
ٱلْحَمْدُ All praises l-ḥamdu
All praises
لِلَّهِ ۚ (are) for Allah lillahi
(are) for Allah
بَلْ But bal
But
أَكْثَرُهُمْ most of them aktharuhum
most of them
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَ know yaʿlamūna
know
٢٥ (25)
(25)
And if you asked them, "Who created the heavens and earth?" they would surely say, "Allāh." Say, "[All] praise is [due] to Allāh"; but most of them do not know.
31:26
لِلَّهِ To Allah (belongs) lillahi
To Allah (belongs)
مَا whatever
whatever
فِى (is) in
(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
هُوَ He huwa
He
ٱلْغَنِىُّ (is) Free of need l-ghaniyu
(is) Free of need
ٱلْحَمِيدُ the Praiseworthy l-ḥamīdu
the Praiseworthy
٢٦ (26)
(26)
To Allāh belongs whatever is in the heavens and earth. Indeed, Allāh is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.
31:27
وَلَوْ And if walaw
And if
أَنَّمَا whatever annamā
whatever
فِى (is) in
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
مِن of min
of
شَجَرَةٍ (the) trees shajaratin
(the) trees
أَقْلَـٰمٌۭ (were) pens aqlāmun
(were) pens
وَٱلْبَحْرُ and the sea wal-baḥru
and the sea
يَمُدُّهُۥ (to) add to it yamudduhu
(to) add to it
مِنۢ after it min
after it
بَعْدِهِۦ after it baʿdihi
after it
سَبْعَةُ seven sabʿatu
seven
أَبْحُرٍۢ seas abḥurin
seas
مَّا not
not
نَفِدَتْ would be exhausted nafidat
would be exhausted
كَلِمَـٰتُ (the) Words kalimātu
(the) Words
ٱللَّهِ ۗ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
عَزِيزٌ (is) All-Mighty ʿazīzun
(is) All-Mighty
حَكِيمٌۭ All-Wise ḥakīmun
All-Wise
٢٧ (27)
(27)
And if whatever trees upon the earth were pens and the sea [was ink], replenished thereafter by seven [more] seas, the words of Allāh would not be exhausted. Indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.
31:28
مَّا Not
Not
خَلْقُكُمْ (is) your creation khalqukum
(is) your creation
وَلَا and not walā
and not
بَعْثُكُمْ your resurrection baʿthukum
your resurrection
إِلَّا but illā
but
كَنَفْسٍۢ as a soul kanafsin
as a soul
وَٰحِدَةٍ ۗ single wāḥidatin
single
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
سَمِيعٌۢ (is) All-Hearer samīʿun
(is) All-Hearer
بَصِيرٌ All-Seer baṣīrun
All-Seer
٢٨ (28)
(28)
Your creation and your resurrection will not be but as that of a single soul. Indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Seeing.
31:29
أَلَمْ Do not alam
Do not
تَرَ you see tara
you see
أَنَّ that anna
that
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
يُولِجُ causes to enter yūliju
causes to enter
ٱلَّيْلَ the night al-layla
the night
فِى into
into
ٱلنَّهَارِ the day l-nahāri
the day
وَيُولِجُ and causes to enter wayūliju
and causes to enter
ٱلنَّهَارَ the day l-nahāra
the day
فِى into
into
ٱلَّيْلِ the night al-layli
the night
وَسَخَّرَ and has subjected wasakhara
and has subjected
ٱلشَّمْسَ the sun l-shamsa
the sun
وَٱلْقَمَرَ and the moon wal-qamara
and the moon
كُلٌّۭ each kullun
each
يَجْرِىٓ moving yajrī
moving
إِلَىٰٓ for ilā
for
أَجَلٍۢ a term ajalin
a term
مُّسَمًّۭى appointed musamman
appointed
وَأَنَّ and that wa-anna
and that
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
بِمَا of what bimā
of what
تَعْمَلُونَ you do taʿmalūna
you do
خَبِيرٌۭ (is) All-Aware khabīrun
(is) All-Aware
٢٩ (29)
(29)
Do you not see [i.e., know] that Allāh causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term, and that Allāh, of whatever you do, is Aware?
31:30
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
بِأَنَّ (is) because bi-anna
(is) because
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
هُوَ He huwa
He
ٱلْحَقُّ (is) the Truth l-ḥaqu
(is) the Truth
وَأَنَّ and that wa-anna
and that
مَا what
what
يَدْعُونَ they call yadʿūna
they call
مِن besides Him min
besides Him
دُونِهِ besides Him dūnihi
besides Him
ٱلْبَـٰطِلُ (is) [the] falsehood l-bāṭilu
(is) [the] falsehood
وَأَنَّ and that wa-anna
and that
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
هُوَ He huwa
He
ٱلْعَلِىُّ (is) the Most High l-ʿaliyu
(is) the Most High
ٱلْكَبِيرُ the Most Great l-kabīru
the Most Great
٣٠ (30)
(30)
That is because Allāh is the True Reality, and that what they call upon other than Him is falsehood, and because Allāh is the Most High, the Grand.
31:31
أَلَمْ Do not alam
Do not
تَرَ you see tara
you see
أَنَّ that anna
that
ٱلْفُلْكَ the ships l-ful'ka
the ships
تَجْرِى sail tajrī
sail
فِى through
through
ٱلْبَحْرِ the sea l-baḥri
the sea
بِنِعْمَتِ by (the) Grace biniʿ'mati
by (the) Grace
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
لِيُرِيَكُم that He may show you liyuriyakum
that He may show you
مِّنْ of min
of
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓ ۚ His Signs āyātihi
His Signs
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
فِى in
in
ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) Signs laāyātin
surely (are) Signs
لِّكُلِّ for everyone likulli
for everyone
صَبَّارٍۢ (who is) patient ṣabbārin
(who is) patient
شَكُورٍۢ grateful shakūrin
grateful
٣١ (31)
(31)
Do you not see that ships sail through the sea by the favor of Allāh that He may show you of His signs? Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.
31:32
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when
غَشِيَهُم covers them ghashiyahum
covers them
مَّوْجٌۭ a wave mawjun
a wave
كَٱلظُّلَلِ like canopies kal-ẓulali
like canopies
دَعَوُا۟ they call daʿawū
they call
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
مُخْلِصِينَ (being) sincere mukh'liṣīna
(being) sincere
لَهُ to Him lahu
to Him
ٱلدِّينَ (in) religion l-dīna
(in) religion
فَلَمَّا But when falammā
But when
نَجَّىٰهُمْ He delivers them najjāhum
He delivers them
إِلَى to ilā
to
ٱلْبَرِّ the land l-bari
the land
فَمِنْهُم then among them famin'hum
then among them
مُّقْتَصِدٌۭ ۚ (some are) moderate muq'taṣidun
(some are) moderate
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
يَجْحَدُ deny yajḥadu
deny
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ Our Signs biāyātinā
Our Signs
إِلَّا except illā
except
كُلُّ every kullu
every
خَتَّارٍۢ traitor khattārin
traitor
كَفُورٍۢ ungrateful kafūrin
ungrateful
٣٢ (32)
(32)
And when waves come over them like canopies, they supplicate Allāh, sincere to Him in religion [i.e., faith]. But when He delivers them to the land, there are [some] of them who are moderate [in faith]. And none rejects Our signs except everyone treacherous and ungrateful.
31:33
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O yāayyuhā
O
ٱلنَّاسُ mankind l-nāsu
mankind
ٱتَّقُوا۟ Fear ittaqū
Fear
رَبَّكُمْ your Lord rabbakum
your Lord
وَٱخْشَوْا۟ and fear wa-ikh'shaw
and fear
يَوْمًۭا a Day yawman
a Day
لَّا not
not
يَجْزِى can avail yajzī
can avail
وَالِدٌ a father wālidun
a father
عَن [for] ʿan
[for]
وَلَدِهِۦ his son waladihi
his son
وَلَا and not walā
and not
مَوْلُودٌ a son mawlūdun
a son
هُوَ he huwa
he
جَازٍ (can) avail jāzin
(can) avail
عَن [for] ʿan
[for]
وَالِدِهِۦ his father wālidihi
his father
شَيْـًٔا ۚ anything shayan
anything
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
وَعْدَ (the) Promise waʿda
(the) Promise
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
حَقٌّۭ ۖ (is) True ḥaqqun
(is) True
فَلَا so let not deceive you falā
so let not deceive you
تَغُرَّنَّكُمُ so let not deceive you taghurrannakumu
so let not deceive you
ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ the life l-ḥayatu
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
وَلَا and let not deceive you walā
and let not deceive you
يَغُرَّنَّكُم and let not deceive you yaghurrannakum
and let not deceive you
بِٱللَّهِ about Allah bil-lahi
about Allah
ٱلْغَرُورُ the deceiver l-gharūru
the deceiver
٣٣ (33)
(33)
O mankind, fear your Lord and fear a Day when no father will avail his son, nor will a son avail his father at all. Indeed, the promise of Allāh is truth, so let not the worldly life delude you and be not deceived about Allāh by the Deceiver [i.e., Satan].
31:34
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
عِندَهُۥ with Him ʿindahu
with Him
عِلْمُ (is the) knowledge ʿil'mu
(is the) knowledge
ٱلسَّاعَةِ (of) the Hour l-sāʿati
(of) the Hour
وَيُنَزِّلُ and He sends down wayunazzilu
and He sends down
ٱلْغَيْثَ the rain l-ghaytha
the rain
وَيَعْلَمُ and knows wayaʿlamu
and knows
مَا what
what
فِى (is) in
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْحَامِ ۖ the wombs l-arḥāmi
the wombs
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
تَدْرِى knows tadrī
knows
نَفْسٌۭ any soul nafsun
any soul
مَّاذَا what mādhā
what
تَكْسِبُ it will earn taksibu
it will earn
غَدًۭا ۖ tomorrow ghadan
tomorrow
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
تَدْرِى knows tadrī
knows
نَفْسٌۢ any soul nafsun
any soul
بِأَىِّ in what bi-ayyi
in what
أَرْضٍۢ land arḍin
land
تَمُوتُ ۚ it will die tamūtu
it will die
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
عَلِيمٌ (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knower
خَبِيرٌۢ All-Aware khabīrun
All-Aware
٣٤ (34)
(34)
Indeed, Allāh [alone] has knowledge of the Hour and sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs. And no soul perceives what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul perceives in what land it will die. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing and Aware.
