بِسْمِ In (the) name bis'mi
In (the) name
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
38:1
صٓ ۚ Saad sad
Saad
وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ By the Quran wal-qur'āni
By the Quran
ذِى full (of) reminder dhī
full (of) reminder
ٱلذِّكْرِ full (of) reminder l-dhik'ri
full (of) reminder

Ṣād. By the Qur’ān containing reminder...
38:2
بَلِ Nay bali
Nay
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
فِى (are) in
(are) in
عِزَّةٍۢ self-glory ʿizzatin
self-glory
وَشِقَاقٍۢ and opposition washiqāqin
and opposition
٢ (2)
(2)
But those who disbelieve are in pride and dissension.
38:3
كَمْ How many kam
How many
أَهْلَكْنَا We destroyed ahlaknā
We destroyed
مِن before them min
before them
قَبْلِهِم before them qablihim
before them
مِّن of min
of
قَرْنٍۢ a generation qarnin
a generation
فَنَادَوا۟ then they called out fanādaw
then they called out
وَّلَاتَ when there (was) no longer walāta
when there (was) no longer
حِينَ time ḥīna
time
مَنَاصٍۢ (for) escape manāṣin
(for) escape
٣ (3)
(3)
How many a generation have We destroyed before them, and they [then] called out; but it was not a time for escape.
38:4
وَعَجِبُوٓا۟ And they wonder waʿajibū
And they wonder
أَن that an
that
جَآءَهُم has come to them jāahum
has come to them
مُّنذِرٌۭ a warner mundhirun
a warner
مِّنْهُمْ ۖ from themselves min'hum
from themselves
وَقَالَ And said waqāla
And said
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ the disbelievers l-kāfirūna
the disbelievers
هَـٰذَا This hādhā
This
سَـٰحِرٌۭ (is) a magician sāḥirun
(is) a magician
كَذَّابٌ a liar kadhābun
a liar
٤ (4)
(4)
And they wonder that there has come to them a warner [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] from among themselves. And the disbelievers say, "This is a magician and a liar.
38:5
أَجَعَلَ Has he made ajaʿala
Has he made
ٱلْـَٔالِهَةَ the gods l-ālihata
the gods
إِلَـٰهًۭا (into) one god ilāhan
(into) one god
وَٰحِدًا ۖ (into) one god wāḥidan
(into) one god
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this
لَشَىْءٌ (is) certainly a thing lashayon
(is) certainly a thing
عُجَابٌۭ curious ʿujābun
curious
٥ (5)
(5)
Has he made the gods [only] one God? Indeed, this is a curious thing."
38:6
وَٱنطَلَقَ And went forth wa-inṭalaqa
And went forth
ٱلْمَلَأُ the chiefs l-mala-u
the chiefs
مِنْهُمْ among them min'hum
among them
أَنِ that ani
that
ٱمْشُوا۟ Continue im'shū
Continue
وَٱصْبِرُوا۟ and be patient wa-iṣ'birū
and be patient
عَلَىٰٓ over ʿalā
over
ءَالِهَتِكُمْ ۖ your gods ālihatikum
your gods
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this
لَشَىْءٌۭ (is) certainly a thing lashayon
(is) certainly a thing
يُرَادُ intended yurādu
intended
٦ (6)
(6)
And the eminent among them went forth, [saying], "Continue, and be patient over [the defense of] your gods. Indeed, this is a thing intended.
38:7
مَا Not
Not
سَمِعْنَا we heard samiʿ'nā
we heard
بِهَـٰذَا of this bihādhā
of this
فِى in
in
ٱلْمِلَّةِ the religion l-milati
the religion
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ the last l-ākhirati
the last
إِنْ Not in
Not
هَـٰذَآ (is) this hādhā
(is) this
إِلَّا but illā
but
ٱخْتِلَـٰقٌ a fabrication ikh'tilāqun
a fabrication
٧ (7)
(7)
We have not heard of this in the latest religion. This is not but a fabrication.
38:8
أَءُنزِلَ Has been revealed a-unzila
Has been revealed
عَلَيْهِ to him ʿalayhi
to him
ٱلذِّكْرُ the Message l-dhik'ru
the Message
مِنۢ from min
from
بَيْنِنَا ۚ among us bayninā
among us
بَلْ Nay bal
Nay
هُمْ They hum
They
فِى (are) in
(are) in
شَكٍّۢ doubt shakkin
doubt
مِّن about min
about
ذِكْرِى ۖ My Message dhik'rī
My Message
بَل Nay bal
Nay
لَّمَّا not yet lammā
not yet
يَذُوقُوا۟ they have tasted yadhūqū
they have tasted
عَذَابِ My punishment ʿadhābi
My punishment
٨ (8)
(8)
Has the message been revealed to him out of [all of] us?" Rather, they are in doubt about My message. Rather, they have not yet tasted My punishment.
38:9
أَمْ Or am
Or
عِندَهُمْ have they ʿindahum
have they
خَزَآئِنُ (the) treasures khazāinu
(the) treasures
رَحْمَةِ (of the) Mercy raḥmati
(of the) Mercy
رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord rabbika
(of) your Lord
ٱلْعَزِيزِ the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzi
the All-Mighty
ٱلْوَهَّابِ the Bestower l-wahābi
the Bestower
٩ (9)
(9)
Or do they have the depositories of the mercy of your Lord, the Exalted in Might, the Bestower?
38:10
أَمْ Or am
Or
لَهُم for them lahum
for them
مُّلْكُ (is the) dominion mul'ku
(is the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
وَمَا and whatever wamā
and whatever
بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ (is) between them baynahumā
(is) between them
فَلْيَرْتَقُوا۟ Then let them ascend falyartaqū
Then let them ascend
فِى by
by
ٱلْأَسْبَـٰبِ the means l-asbābi
the means
١٠ (10)
(10)
Or is theirs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and what is between them? Then let them ascend through [any] ways of access.
38:11
جُندٌۭ Soldiers jundun
Soldiers
مَّا there
there
هُنَالِكَ there hunālika
there
مَهْزُومٌۭ (they will be) defeated mahzūmun
(they will be) defeated
مِّنَ among mina
among
ٱلْأَحْزَابِ the companies l-aḥzābi
the companies
١١ (11)
(11)
[They are but] soldiers [who will be] defeated there among the companies [of disbelievers].
38:12
كَذَّبَتْ Denied kadhabat
Denied
قَبْلَهُمْ before them qablahum
before them
قَوْمُ (the) people qawmu
(the) people
نُوحٍۢ (of) Nuh nūḥin
(of) Nuh
وَعَادٌۭ and Aad waʿādun
and Aad
وَفِرْعَوْنُ and Firaun wafir'ʿawnu
and Firaun
ذُو (the) owner dhū
(the) owner
ٱلْأَوْتَادِ (of) the stakes l-awtādi
(of) the stakes
١٢ (12)
(12)
The people of Noah denied before them, and [the tribe of] ʿAad and Pharaoh, the owner of stakes,
38:13
وَثَمُودُ And Thamud wathamūdu
And Thamud
وَقَوْمُ and (the) people waqawmu
and (the) people
لُوطٍۢ (of) Lut lūṭin
(of) Lut
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ and (the) companions wa-aṣḥābu
and (the) companions
لْـَٔيْكَةِ ۚ (of) the wood al'aykati
(of) the wood
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
ٱلْأَحْزَابُ (were) the companies l-aḥzābu
(were) the companies
١٣ (13)
(13)
And [the tribe of] Thamūd and the people of Lot and the companions of the thicket [i.e., people of Madyan]. Those are the companies.
38:14
إِن Not in
Not
كُلٌّ all (of them) kullun
all (of them)
إِلَّا but illā
but
كَذَّبَ denied kadhaba
denied
ٱلرُّسُلَ the Messengers l-rusula
the Messengers
فَحَقَّ so (was) just faḥaqqa
so (was) just
عِقَابِ My penalty ʿiqābi
My penalty
١٤ (14)
(14)
Each of them denied the messengers, so My penalty was justified.
38:15
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
يَنظُرُ await yanẓuru
await
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ these hāulāi
these
إِلَّا but illā
but
صَيْحَةًۭ a shout ṣayḥatan
a shout
وَٰحِدَةًۭ one wāḥidatan
one
مَّا not
not
لَهَا for it lahā
for it
مِن any min
any
فَوَاقٍۢ delay fawāqin
delay
١٥ (15)
(15)
And these [disbelievers] await not but one blast [of the Horn]; for it there will be no delay.
38:16
وَقَالُوا۟ And they say waqālū
And they say
رَبَّنَا Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord
عَجِّل Hasten ʿajjil
Hasten
لَّنَا for us lanā
for us
قِطَّنَا our share qiṭṭanā
our share
قَبْلَ before qabla
before
يَوْمِ (the) Day yawmi
(the) Day
ٱلْحِسَابِ (of) the Account l-ḥisābi
(of) the Account
١٦ (16)
(16)
And they say, "Our Lord, hasten for us our share [of the punishment] before the Day of Account."
38:17
ٱصْبِرْ Be patient iṣ'bir
Be patient
عَلَىٰ over ʿalā
over
مَا what
what
يَقُولُونَ they say yaqūlūna
they say
وَٱذْكُرْ and remember wa-udh'kur
and remember
عَبْدَنَا Our slave ʿabdanā
Our slave
دَاوُۥدَ Dawood dāwūda
Dawood
ذَا the possessor of strength dhā
the possessor of strength
ٱلْأَيْدِ ۖ the possessor of strength l-aydi
the possessor of strength
إِنَّهُۥٓ Indeed, he (was) innahu
Indeed, he (was)
أَوَّابٌ repeatedly turning awwābun
repeatedly turning
١٧ (17)
(17)
Be patient over what they say and remember Our servant, David, the possessor of strength; indeed, he was one who repeatedly turned back [to Allāh].
38:18
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We
سَخَّرْنَا subjected sakharnā
subjected
ٱلْجِبَالَ the mountains l-jibāla
the mountains
مَعَهُۥ with him maʿahu
with him
يُسَبِّحْنَ glorifying yusabbiḥ'na
glorifying
بِٱلْعَشِىِّ in the evening bil-ʿashiyi
in the evening
وَٱلْإِشْرَاقِ and [the] sunrise wal-ish'rāqi
and [the] sunrise
١٨ (18)
(18)
Indeed, We subjected the mountains [to praise] with him, exalting [Allāh] in the [late] afternoon and [after] sunrise.
38:19
وَٱلطَّيْرَ And the birds wal-ṭayra
And the birds
مَحْشُورَةًۭ ۖ assembled maḥshūratan
assembled
كُلٌّۭ all kullun
all
لَّهُۥٓ with him lahu
with him
أَوَّابٌۭ repeatedly turning awwābun
repeatedly turning
١٩ (19)
(19)
And the birds were assembled, all with him repeating [praises].
38:20
وَشَدَدْنَا And We strengthened washadadnā
And We strengthened
مُلْكَهُۥ his kingdom mul'kahu
his kingdom
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ and We gave him waātaynāhu
and We gave him
ٱلْحِكْمَةَ [the] wisdom l-ḥik'mata
[the] wisdom
وَفَصْلَ and decisive wafaṣla
and decisive
ٱلْخِطَابِ speech l-khiṭābi
speech
٢٠ (20)
(20)
And We strengthened his kingdom and gave him wisdom and discernment in speech.
38:21
۞ وَهَلْ And has (there) wahal
And has (there)
أَتَىٰكَ come to you atāka
come to you
نَبَؤُا۟ (the) news naba-u
(the) news
ٱلْخَصْمِ (of) the litigants l-khaṣmi
(of) the litigants
إِذْ when idh
when
تَسَوَّرُوا۟ they climbed over the wall tasawwarū
they climbed over the wall
ٱلْمِحْرَابَ (of) the chamber l-miḥ'rāba
(of) the chamber
٢١ (21)
(21)
And has there come to you the news of the adversaries, when they climbed over the wall of [his] prayer chamber -
38:22
إِذْ When idh
When
دَخَلُوا۟ they entered dakhalū
they entered
عَلَىٰ upon ʿalā
upon
دَاوُۥدَ Dawood dāwūda
Dawood
فَفَزِعَ and he was afraid fafaziʿa
and he was afraid
مِنْهُمْ ۖ of them min'hum
of them
قَالُوا۟ they said qālū
they said
لَا (Do) not
(Do) not
تَخَفْ ۖ fear takhaf
fear
خَصْمَانِ (We are) two litigants khaṣmāni
(We are) two litigants
بَغَىٰ has wronged baghā
has wronged
بَعْضُنَا one of us baʿḍunā
one of us
عَلَىٰ to ʿalā
to
بَعْضٍۢ another baʿḍin
another
فَٱحْكُم so judge fa-uḥ'kum
so judge
بَيْنَنَا between us baynanā
between us
بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth bil-ḥaqi
in truth
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تُشْطِطْ be unjust tush'ṭiṭ
be unjust
وَٱهْدِنَآ and guide us wa-ih'dinā
and guide us
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
سَوَآءِ an even sawāi
an even
ٱلصِّرَٰطِ [the] path l-ṣirāṭi
[the] path
٢٢ (22)
(22)
When they entered upon David and he was alarmed by them? They said, "Fear not. [We are] two adversaries, one of whom has wronged the other, so judge between us with truth and do not exceed [it] and guide us to the sound path.
38:23
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
هَـٰذَآ this hādhā
this
أَخِى (is) my brother akhī
(is) my brother
لَهُۥ he has lahu
he has
تِسْعٌۭ ninety-nine tis'ʿun
ninety-nine
وَتِسْعُونَ ninety-nine watis'ʿūna
ninety-nine
نَعْجَةًۭ ewe(s) naʿjatan
ewe(s)
وَلِىَ while I have waliya
while I have
نَعْجَةٌۭ ewe naʿjatun
ewe
وَٰحِدَةٌۭ one wāḥidatun
one
فَقَالَ so he said faqāla
so he said
أَكْفِلْنِيهَا Entrust her to me akfil'nīhā
Entrust her to me
وَعَزَّنِى and he overpowered me waʿazzanī
and he overpowered me
فِى in
in
ٱلْخِطَابِ [the] speech l-khiṭābi
[the] speech
٢٣ (23)
(23)
Indeed this, my brother, has ninety-nine ewes, and I have one ewe; so he said, 'Entrust her to me,' and he overpowered me in speech."
38:24
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
لَقَدْ Certainly laqad
Certainly
ظَلَمَكَ he has wronged you ẓalamaka
he has wronged you
بِسُؤَالِ by demanding bisuāli
by demanding
نَعْجَتِكَ your ewe naʿjatika
your ewe
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
نِعَاجِهِۦ ۖ his ewes niʿājihi
his ewes
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
كَثِيرًۭا many kathīran
many
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلْخُلَطَآءِ the partners l-khulaṭāi
the partners
لَيَبْغِى certainly oppress layabghī
certainly oppress
بَعْضُهُمْ some of them baʿḍuhum
some of them
عَلَىٰ [on] ʿalā
[on]
بَعْضٍ another baʿḍin
another
إِلَّا except illā
except
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
وَقَلِيلٌۭ and few waqalīlun
and few
مَّا (are) they
(are) they
هُمْ ۗ (are) they hum
(are) they
وَظَنَّ And became certain waẓanna
And became certain
دَاوُۥدُ Dawood dāwūdu
Dawood
أَنَّمَا that annamā
that
فَتَنَّـٰهُ We (had) tried him fatannāhu
We (had) tried him
فَٱسْتَغْفَرَ and he asked forgiveness fa-is'taghfara
and he asked forgiveness
رَبَّهُۥ (of) his Lord rabbahu
(of) his Lord
وَخَرَّ and fell down wakharra
and fell down
رَاكِعًۭا bowing rākiʿan
bowing
وَأَنَابَ ۩ and turned in repentance wa-anāba
and turned in repentance
٢٤ (24)
(24)
[David] said, "He has certainly wronged you in demanding your ewe [in addition] to his ewes. And indeed, many associates oppress one another, except for those who believe and do righteous deeds - and few are they." And David became certain that We had tried him, and he asked forgiveness of his Lord and fell down bowing [in prostration] and turned in repentance [to Allāh].
38:25
فَغَفَرْنَا So We forgave faghafarnā
So We forgave
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
ذَٰلِكَ ۖ that dhālika
that
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
عِندَنَا with Us ʿindanā
with Us
لَزُلْفَىٰ surely is a near access lazul'fā
surely is a near access
وَحُسْنَ and a good waḥus'na
and a good
مَـَٔابٍۢ place of return maābin
place of return
٢٥ (25)
(25)
So We forgave him that; and indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return.
38:26
يَـٰدَاوُۥدُ O Dawood yādāwūdu
O Dawood
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We
جَعَلْنَـٰكَ [We] have made you jaʿalnāka
[We] have made you
خَلِيفَةًۭ a vicegerent khalīfatan
a vicegerent
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
فَٱحْكُم so judge fa-uḥ'kum
so judge
بَيْنَ between bayna
between
ٱلنَّاسِ [the] men l-nāsi
[the] men
بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth bil-ḥaqi
in truth
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تَتَّبِعِ follow tattabiʿi
follow
ٱلْهَوَىٰ the desire l-hawā
the desire
فَيُضِلَّكَ for it will lead you astray fayuḍillaka
for it will lead you astray
عَن from ʿan
from
سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ ۚ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
يَضِلُّونَ go astray yaḍillūna
go astray
عَن from ʿan
from
سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
عَذَابٌۭ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
شَدِيدٌۢ severe shadīdun
severe
بِمَا because bimā
because
نَسُوا۟ they forgot nasū
they forgot
يَوْمَ (the) Day yawma
(the) Day
ٱلْحِسَابِ (of) Account l-ḥisābi
(of) Account
٢٦ (26)
(26)
[We said], "O David, indeed We have made you a successor upon the earth, so judge between the people in truth and do not follow [your own] desire, as it will lead you astray from the way of Allāh." Indeed, those who go astray from the way of Allāh will have a severe punishment for having forgotten the Day of Account.
38:27
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
خَلَقْنَا We created khalaqnā
We created
ٱلسَّمَآءَ the heaven l-samāa
the heaven
وَٱلْأَرْضَ and the earth wal-arḍa
and the earth
وَمَا and whatever wamā
and whatever
بَيْنَهُمَا (is) between them baynahumā
(is) between them
بَـٰطِلًۭا ۚ without purpose bāṭilan
without purpose
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
ظَنُّ (is the) assumption ẓannu
(is the) assumption
ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who alladhīna
(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟ ۚ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
فَوَيْلٌۭ So woe fawaylun
So woe
لِّلَّذِينَ to those lilladhīna
to those
كَفَرُوا۟ who disbelieve kafarū
who disbelieve
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلنَّارِ the Fire l-nāri
the Fire
٢٧ (27)
(27)
And We did not create the heaven and the earth and that between them aimlessly. That is the assumption of those who disbelieve, so woe to those who disbelieve from the Fire.
38:28
أَمْ Or am
Or
نَجْعَلُ should We treat najʿalu
should We treat
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
كَٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ like those who spread corruption kal-muf'sidīna
like those who spread corruption
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
أَمْ Or am
Or
نَجْعَلُ should We treat najʿalu
should We treat
ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ the pious l-mutaqīna
the pious
كَٱلْفُجَّارِ like the wicked kal-fujāri
like the wicked
٢٨ (28)
(28)
Or should We treat those who believe and do righteous deeds like corrupters in the land? Or should We treat those who fear Allāh like the wicked?
38:29
كِتَـٰبٌ (This is) a Book kitābun
(This is) a Book
أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ We have revealed it anzalnāhu
We have revealed it
إِلَيْكَ to you ilayka
to you
مُبَـٰرَكٌۭ blessed mubārakun
blessed
لِّيَدَّبَّرُوٓا۟ that they may ponder liyaddabbarū
that they may ponder
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ (over) its Verses āyātihi
(over) its Verses
وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ and may be reminded waliyatadhakkara
and may be reminded
أُو۟لُوا۟ those of understanding ulū
those of understanding
ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ those of understanding l-albābi
those of understanding
٢٩ (29)
(29)
[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.
38:30
وَوَهَبْنَا And We gave wawahabnā
And We gave
لِدَاوُۥدَ to Dawood lidāwūda
to Dawood
سُلَيْمَـٰنَ ۚ Sulaiman sulaymāna
Sulaiman
نِعْمَ an excellent niʿ'ma
an excellent
ٱلْعَبْدُ ۖ slave l-ʿabdu
slave
إِنَّهُۥٓ Indeed, he innahu
Indeed, he
أَوَّابٌ (was) one who repeatedly turned awwābun
(was) one who repeatedly turned
٣٠ (30)
(30)
And to David We gave Solomon. An excellent servant, indeed he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allāh].
38:31
إِذْ When idh
When
عُرِضَ were displayed ʿuriḍa
were displayed
عَلَيْهِ to him ʿalayhi
to him
بِٱلْعَشِىِّ in the afternoon bil-ʿashiyi
in the afternoon
ٱلصَّـٰفِنَـٰتُ excellent bred steeds l-ṣāfinātu
excellent bred steeds
ٱلْجِيَادُ excellent bred steeds l-jiyādu
excellent bred steeds
٣١ (31)
(31)
[Mention] when there were exhibited before him in the afternoon the poised [standing] racehorses.
38:32
فَقَالَ And he said faqāla
And he said
إِنِّىٓ Indeed, I innī
Indeed, I
أَحْبَبْتُ [I] preferred aḥbabtu
[I] preferred
حُبَّ (the) love ḥubba
(the) love
ٱلْخَيْرِ (of) the good l-khayri
(of) the good
عَن over ʿan
over
ذِكْرِ (the) remembrance dhik'ri
(the) remembrance
رَبِّى (of) my Lord rabbī
(of) my Lord
حَتَّىٰ Until ḥattā
Until
تَوَارَتْ they were hidden tawārat
they were hidden
بِٱلْحِجَابِ in the veil bil-ḥijābi
in the veil
٣٢ (32)
(32)
And he said, "Indeed, I gave preference to the love of good [things] over the remembrance of my Lord until it [i.e., the sun] disappeared into the curtain [of darkness]."
38:33
رُدُّوهَا Return them ruddūhā
Return them
عَلَىَّ ۖ to me ʿalayya
to me
فَطَفِقَ Then he began faṭafiqa
Then he began
مَسْحًۢا (to) pass (his hand) masḥan
(to) pass (his hand)
بِٱلسُّوقِ over the legs bil-sūqi
over the legs
وَٱلْأَعْنَاقِ and the necks wal-aʿnāqi
and the necks
٣٣ (33)
(33)
[He said], "Return them to me," and set about striking [their] legs and necks.
38:34
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad
And certainly
فَتَنَّا We tried fatannā
We tried
سُلَيْمَـٰنَ Sulaiman sulaymāna
Sulaiman
وَأَلْقَيْنَا and We placed wa-alqaynā
and We placed
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
كُرْسِيِّهِۦ his throne kur'siyyihi
his throne
جَسَدًۭا a body jasadan
a body
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
أَنَابَ he turned anāba
he turned
٣٤ (34)
(34)
And We certainly tried Solomon and placed on his throne a body; then he returned.
38:35
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
رَبِّ O my Lord rabbi
O my Lord
ٱغْفِرْ Forgive igh'fir
Forgive
لِى me
me
وَهَبْ and grant wahab
and grant
لِى me
me
مُلْكًۭا a kingdom mul'kan
a kingdom
لَّا not
not
يَنۢبَغِى (will) belong yanbaghī
(will) belong
لِأَحَدٍۢ to anyone li-aḥadin
to anyone
مِّنۢ after me min
after me
بَعْدِىٓ ۖ after me baʿdī
after me
إِنَّكَ Indeed, You innaka
Indeed, You
أَنتَ [You] anta
[You]
ٱلْوَهَّابُ (are) the Bestower l-wahābu
(are) the Bestower
٣٥ (35)
(35)
He said, "My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me. Indeed, You are the Bestower."
38:36
فَسَخَّرْنَا Then We subjected fasakharnā
Then We subjected
لَهُ to him lahu
to him
ٱلرِّيحَ the wind l-rīḥa
the wind
تَجْرِى to flow tajrī
to flow
بِأَمْرِهِۦ by his command bi-amrihi
by his command
رُخَآءً gently rukhāan
gently
حَيْثُ wherever ḥaythu
wherever
أَصَابَ he directed aṣāba
he directed
٣٦ (36)
(36)
So We subjected to him the wind blowing by his command, gently, wherever he directed,
38:37
وَٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ And the devils wal-shayāṭīna
And the devils
كُلَّ every kulla
every
بَنَّآءٍۢ builder bannāin
builder
وَغَوَّاصٍۢ and diver waghawwāṣin
and diver
٣٧ (37)
(37)
And [also] the devils [of jinn] - every builder and diver.
38:38
وَءَاخَرِينَ And others waākharīna
And others
مُقَرَّنِينَ bound muqarranīna
bound
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَصْفَادِ chains l-aṣfādi
chains
٣٨ (38)
(38)
And others bound together in irons.
38:39
هَـٰذَا This hādhā
This
عَطَآؤُنَا (is) Our gift ʿaṭāunā
(is) Our gift
فَٱمْنُنْ so grant fa-um'nun
so grant
أَوْ or aw
or
أَمْسِكْ withhold amsik
withhold
بِغَيْرِ without bighayri
without
حِسَابٍۢ account ḥisābin
account
٣٩ (39)
(39)
[We said], "This is Our gift, so grant or withhold without account."
38:40
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
عِندَنَا with Us ʿindanā
with Us
لَزُلْفَىٰ surely is a near access lazul'fā
surely is a near access
وَحُسْنَ and a good waḥus'na
and a good
مَـَٔابٍۢ place of return maābin
place of return
٤٠ (40)
(40)
And indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return.
38:41
وَٱذْكُرْ And remember wa-udh'kur
And remember
عَبْدَنَآ Our slave ʿabdanā
Our slave
أَيُّوبَ Ayyub ayyūba
Ayyub
إِذْ when idh
when
نَادَىٰ he called nādā
he called
رَبَّهُۥٓ his Lord rabbahu
his Lord
أَنِّى That [I] annī
That [I]
مَسَّنِىَ (has) touched me massaniya
(has) touched me
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ Shaitaan l-shayṭānu
Shaitaan
بِنُصْبٍۢ with distress binuṣ'bin
with distress
وَعَذَابٍ and suffering waʿadhābin
and suffering
٤١ (41)
(41)
And remember Our servant Job, when he called to his Lord, "Indeed, Satan has touched me with hardship and torment."
38:42
ٱرْكُضْ Strike ur'kuḍ
Strike
بِرِجْلِكَ ۖ with your foot birij'lika
with your foot
هَـٰذَا This hādhā
This
مُغْتَسَلٌۢ (is a spring of) water to bathe mugh'tasalun
(is a spring of) water to bathe
بَارِدٌۭ cool bāridun
cool
وَشَرَابٌۭ and a drink washarābun
and a drink
٤٢ (42)
(42)
[So he was told], "Strike [the ground] with your foot; this is a [spring for a] cool bath and drink."
38:43
وَوَهَبْنَا And We granted wawahabnā
And We granted
لَهُۥٓ [to] him lahu
[to] him
أَهْلَهُۥ his family ahlahu
his family
وَمِثْلَهُم and a like of them wamith'lahum
and a like of them
مَّعَهُمْ with them maʿahum
with them
رَحْمَةًۭ a Mercy raḥmatan
a Mercy
مِّنَّا from Us minnā
from Us
وَذِكْرَىٰ and a Reminder wadhik'rā
and a Reminder
لِأُو۟لِى for those of understanding li-ulī
for those of understanding
ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ for those of understanding l-albābi
for those of understanding
٤٣ (43)
(43)
And We granted him his family and a like [number] with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for those of understanding.
38:44
وَخُذْ And take wakhudh
And take
بِيَدِكَ in your hand biyadika
in your hand
ضِغْثًۭا a bunch ḍigh'than
a bunch
فَٱضْرِب and strike fa-iḍ'rib
and strike
بِّهِۦ with it bihi
with it
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تَحْنَثْ ۗ break (your) oath taḥnath
break (your) oath
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We
وَجَدْنَـٰهُ [We] found him wajadnāhu
[We] found him
صَابِرًۭا ۚ patient ṣābiran
patient
نِّعْمَ an excellent niʿ'ma
an excellent
ٱلْعَبْدُ ۖ slave l-ʿabdu
slave
إِنَّهُۥٓ Indeed, he innahu
Indeed, he
أَوَّابٌۭ repeatedly turned awwābun
repeatedly turned
٤٤ (44)
(44)
[We said], "And take in your hand a bunch [of grass] and strike with it and do not break your oath."1 Indeed, We found him patient, an excellent servant. Indeed, he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allāh].
38:45
وَٱذْكُرْ And remember wa-udh'kur
And remember
عِبَـٰدَنَآ Our slaves ʿibādanā
Our slaves
إِبْرَٰهِيمَ Ibrahim ib'rāhīma
Ibrahim
وَإِسْحَـٰقَ and Isaac wa-is'ḥāqa
and Isaac
وَيَعْقُوبَ and Ayyub wayaʿqūba
and Ayyub
أُو۟لِى possessors ulī
possessors
ٱلْأَيْدِى (of) strength l-aydī
(of) strength
وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ and vision wal-abṣāri
and vision
٤٥ (45)
(45)
And remember Our servants, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - those of strength and [religious] vision.
38:46
إِنَّآ Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We
أَخْلَصْنَـٰهُم [We] chose them akhlaṣnāhum
[We] chose them
بِخَالِصَةٍۢ for an exclusive (quality) bikhāliṣatin
for an exclusive (quality)
ذِكْرَى remembrance dhik'rā
remembrance
ٱلدَّارِ (of) the Home l-dāri
(of) the Home
٤٦ (46)
(46)
Indeed, We chose them for an exclusive quality: remembrance of the home [of the Hereafter].
38:47
وَإِنَّهُمْ And indeed, they wa-innahum
And indeed, they
عِندَنَا to Us ʿindanā
to Us
لَمِنَ (are) from lamina
(are) from
ٱلْمُصْطَفَيْنَ the chosen ones l-muṣ'ṭafayna
the chosen ones
ٱلْأَخْيَارِ the best l-akhyāri
the best
٤٧ (47)
(47)
And indeed they are, to Us, among the chosen and outstanding.
38:48
وَٱذْكُرْ And remember wa-udh'kur
And remember
إِسْمَـٰعِيلَ Ishmael is'māʿīla
Ishmael
وَٱلْيَسَعَ and Elisha wal-yasaʿa
and Elisha
وَذَا and Dhul-kifl wadhā
and Dhul-kifl
ٱلْكِفْلِ ۖ and Dhul-kifl l-kif'li
and Dhul-kifl
وَكُلٌّۭ and all wakullun
and all
مِّنَ (are) from mina
(are) from
ٱلْأَخْيَارِ the best l-akhyāri
the best
٤٨ (48)
(48)
And remember Ishmael, Elisha and Dhul-Kifl, and all are among the outstanding.
38:49
هَـٰذَا This hādhā
This
ذِكْرٌۭ ۚ (is) a Reminder dhik'run
(is) a Reminder
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
لِلْمُتَّقِينَ for the righteous lil'muttaqīna
for the righteous
لَحُسْنَ surely, is a good laḥus'na
surely, is a good
مَـَٔابٍۢ place of return maābin
place of return
٤٩ (49)
(49)
This is a reminder. And indeed, for the righteous is a good place of return -
38:50
جَنَّـٰتِ Gardens jannāti
Gardens
عَدْنٍۢ (of) Eternity ʿadnin
(of) Eternity
مُّفَتَّحَةًۭ (will be) opened mufattaḥatan
(will be) opened
لَّهُمُ for them lahumu
for them
ٱلْأَبْوَٰبُ the gates l-abwābu
the gates
٥٠ (50)
(50)
Gardens of perpetual residence, whose doors will be opened to them.
38:51
مُتَّكِـِٔينَ Reclining muttakiīna
Reclining
فِيهَا therein fīhā
therein
يَدْعُونَ they will call yadʿūna
they will call
فِيهَا therein fīhā
therein
بِفَـٰكِهَةٍۢ for fruit bifākihatin
for fruit
كَثِيرَةٍۢ many kathīratin
many
وَشَرَابٍۢ and drink washarābin
and drink
٥١ (51)
(51)
Reclining within them, they will call therein for abundant fruit and drink.
38:52
۞ وَعِندَهُمْ And with them waʿindahum
And with them
قَـٰصِرَٰتُ (will be) companions of modest gaze qāṣirātu
(will be) companions of modest gaze
ٱلطَّرْفِ (will be) companions of modest gaze l-ṭarfi
(will be) companions of modest gaze
أَتْرَابٌ well-matched atrābun
well-matched
٥٢ (52)
(52)
And with them will be women limiting [their] glances and of equal age.
38:53
هَـٰذَا This hādhā
This
مَا (is) what
(is) what
تُوعَدُونَ you are promised tūʿadūna
you are promised
لِيَوْمِ for (the) Day liyawmi
for (the) Day
ٱلْحِسَابِ (of) Account l-ḥisābi
(of) Account
٥٣ (53)
(53)
This is what you, [the righteous], are promised for the Day of Account.
38:54
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this
لَرِزْقُنَا (is) surely Our provision lariz'qunā
(is) surely Our provision
مَا not
not
لَهُۥ for it lahu
for it
مِن any min
any
نَّفَادٍ depletion nafādin
depletion
٥٤ (54)
(54)
Indeed, this is Our provision; for it there is no depletion.
38:55
هَـٰذَا ۚ This (is so) hādhā
This (is so)
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
لِلطَّـٰغِينَ for the transgressors lilṭṭāghīna
for the transgressors
لَشَرَّ surely (is) an evil lasharra
surely (is) an evil
مَـَٔابٍۢ place of return maābin
place of return
٥٥ (55)
(55)
This [is so]. But indeed, for the transgressors is an evil place of return -
38:56
جَهَنَّمَ Hell jahannama
Hell
يَصْلَوْنَهَا they will burn therein yaṣlawnahā
they will burn therein
فَبِئْسَ and wretched (is) fabi'sa
and wretched (is)
ٱلْمِهَادُ the resting place l-mihādu
the resting place
٥٦ (56)
(56)
Hell, which they will [enter to] burn, and wretched is the resting place.
38:57
هَـٰذَا This (is so) hādhā
This (is so)
فَلْيَذُوقُوهُ Then let them taste it falyadhūqūhu
Then let them taste it
حَمِيمٌۭ boiling fluid ḥamīmun
boiling fluid
وَغَسَّاقٌۭ and purulence waghassāqun
and purulence
٥٧ (57)
(57)
This - so let them taste it - is scalding water and [foul] purulence.
38:58
وَءَاخَرُ And other waākharu
And other
مِن of min
of
شَكْلِهِۦٓ its type shaklihi
its type
أَزْوَٰجٌ (of various) kinds azwājun
(of various) kinds
٥٨ (58)
(58)
And other [punishments] of its type [in various] kinds.
38:59
هَـٰذَا This hādhā
This
فَوْجٌۭ (is) a company fawjun
(is) a company
مُّقْتَحِمٌۭ bursting muq'taḥimun
bursting
مَّعَكُمْ ۖ (in) with you maʿakum
(in) with you
لَا No
No
مَرْحَبًۢا welcome marḥaban
welcome
بِهِمْ ۚ for them bihim
for them
إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they innahum
Indeed, they
صَالُوا۟ (will) burn ṣālū
(will) burn
ٱلنَّارِ (in) the Fire l-nāri
(in) the Fire
٥٩ (59)
(59)
[Its inhabitants will say], "This is a company bursting in with you. No welcome for them. Indeed, they will burn in the Fire."
38:60
قَالُوا۟ They say qālū
They say
بَلْ Nay bal
Nay
أَنتُمْ You antum
You
لَا no
no
مَرْحَبًۢا welcome marḥaban
welcome
بِكُمْ ۖ for you bikum
for you
أَنتُمْ You antum
You
قَدَّمْتُمُوهُ brought this qaddamtumūhu
brought this
لَنَا ۖ upon us lanā
upon us
فَبِئْسَ So wretched (is) fabi'sa
So wretched (is)
ٱلْقَرَارُ the settlement l-qarāru
the settlement
٦٠ (60)
(60)
They will say, "Nor you! No welcome for you. You, [our leaders], brought this upon us, and wretched is the settlement."
38:61
قَالُوا۟ They will say qālū
They will say
رَبَّنَا Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord
مَن whoever man
whoever
قَدَّمَ brought qaddama
brought
لَنَا upon us lanā
upon us
هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this
فَزِدْهُ increase for him fazid'hu
increase for him
عَذَابًۭا a punishment ʿadhāban
a punishment
ضِعْفًۭا double ḍiʿ'fan
double
فِى in
in
ٱلنَّارِ the Fire l-nāri
the Fire
٦١ (61)
(61)
They will say, "Our Lord, whoever brought this upon us - increase for him double punishment in the Fire."
38:62
وَقَالُوا۟ And they (will) say waqālū
And they (will) say
مَا What (is)
What (is)
لَنَا for us lanā
for us
لَا not
not
نَرَىٰ we see narā
we see
رِجَالًۭا men rijālan
men
كُنَّا we used to kunnā
we used to
نَعُدُّهُم count them naʿudduhum
count them
مِّنَ among mina
among
ٱلْأَشْرَارِ the bad ones l-ashrāri
the bad ones
٦٢ (62)
(62)
And they will say, "Why do we not see men whom we used to count among the worst?
38:63
أَتَّخَذْنَـٰهُمْ Did we take them attakhadhnāhum
Did we take them
سِخْرِيًّا (in) ridicule sikh'riyyan
(in) ridicule
أَمْ or am
or
زَاغَتْ has turned away zāghat
has turned away
عَنْهُمُ from them ʿanhumu
from them
ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ the vision l-abṣāru
the vision
٦٣ (63)
(63)
Is it [because] we took them in ridicule, or has [our] vision turned away from them?"
38:64
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that
لَحَقٌّۭ (is) surely (the) truth laḥaqqun
(is) surely (the) truth
تَخَاصُمُ (the) quarreling takhāṣumu
(the) quarreling
أَهْلِ (of the) people ahli
(of the) people
ٱلنَّارِ (of) the Fire l-nāri
(of) the Fire
٦٤ (64)
(64)
Indeed, that is truth [i.e., reality] - the quarreling of the people of the Fire.
38:65
قُلْ Say qul
Say
إِنَّمَآ Only innamā
Only
أَنَا۠ I am anā
I am
مُنذِرٌۭ ۖ a warner mundhirun
a warner
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
مِنْ (is there) any min
(is there) any
إِلَـٰهٍ god ilāhin
god
إِلَّا except illā
except
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
ٱلْوَٰحِدُ the One l-wāḥidu
the One
ٱلْقَهَّارُ the Irresistible l-qahāru
the Irresistible
٦٥ (65)
(65)
Say, [O Muḥammad], "I am only a warner, and there is not any deity except Allāh, the One, the Prevailing,
38:66
رَبُّ Lord rabbu
Lord
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
وَمَا and whatever wamā
and whatever
بَيْنَهُمَا (is) between them baynahumā
(is) between them
ٱلْعَزِيزُ the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzu
the All-Mighty
ٱلْغَفَّـٰرُ the Oft-Forgiving l-ghafāru
the Oft-Forgiving
٦٦ (66)
(66)
Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Exalted in Might, the Perpetual Forgiver."2
38:67
قُلْ Say qul
Say
هُوَ It (is) huwa
It (is)
نَبَؤٌا۟ a news naba-on
a news
عَظِيمٌ great ʿaẓīmun
great
٦٧ (67)
(67)
Say, "It is great news
38:68
أَنتُمْ You antum
You
عَنْهُ from it ʿanhu
from it
مُعْرِضُونَ turn away muʿ'riḍūna
turn away
٦٨ (68)
(68)
From which you turn away.
38:69
مَا Not
Not
كَانَ is kāna
is
لِىَ for me liya
for me
مِنْ any min
any
عِلْمٍۭ knowledge ʿil'min
knowledge
بِٱلْمَلَإِ (of) the chiefs bil-mala-i
(of) the chiefs
ٱلْأَعْلَىٰٓ the exalted l-aʿlā
the exalted
إِذْ when idh
when
يَخْتَصِمُونَ they were disputing yakhtaṣimūna
they were disputing
٦٩ (69)
(69)
I had no knowledge of the exalted assembly [of angels] when they were disputing [the creation of Adam].
38:70
إِن Not in
Not
يُوحَىٰٓ has been revealed yūḥā
has been revealed
إِلَىَّ to me ilayya
to me
إِلَّآ except illā
except
أَنَّمَآ that only annamā
that only
أَنَا۠ I am anā
I am
نَذِيرٌۭ a warner nadhīrun
a warner
مُّبِينٌ clear mubīnun
clear
٧٠ (70)
(70)
It has not been revealed to me except that I am a clear warner."
38:71
إِذْ When idh
When
قَالَ said qāla
said
رَبُّكَ your Lord rabbuka
your Lord
لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ to the Angels lil'malāikati
to the Angels
إِنِّى Indeed, I Am innī
Indeed, I Am
خَـٰلِقٌۢ going to create khāliqun
going to create
بَشَرًۭا a human being basharan
a human being
مِّن from min
from
طِينٍۢ clay ṭīnin
clay
٧١ (71)
(71)
[So mention] when your Lord said to the angels, "Indeed, I am going to create a human being from clay.
38:72
فَإِذَا So when fa-idhā
So when
سَوَّيْتُهُۥ I have proportioned him sawwaytuhu
I have proportioned him
وَنَفَخْتُ and breathed wanafakhtu
and breathed
فِيهِ into him fīhi
into him
مِن of min
of
رُّوحِى My spirit rūḥī
My spirit
فَقَعُوا۟ then fall down faqaʿū
then fall down
لَهُۥ to him lahu
to him
سَـٰجِدِينَ prostrating sājidīna
prostrating
٧٢ (72)
(72)
So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration."
38:73
فَسَجَدَ So prostrated fasajada
So prostrated
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ the Angels l-malāikatu
the Angels
كُلُّهُمْ all of them kulluhum
all of them
أَجْمَعُونَ together ajmaʿūna
together
٧٣ (73)
(73)
So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely,
38:74
إِلَّآ Except illā
Except
إِبْلِيسَ Iblis ib'līsa
Iblis
ٱسْتَكْبَرَ he was arrogant is'takbara
he was arrogant
وَكَانَ and became wakāna
and became
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ the disbelievers l-kāfirīna
the disbelievers
٧٤ (74)
(74)
Except Iblees; he was arrogant and became among the disbelievers.
38:75
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
يَـٰٓإِبْلِيسُ O Iblis yāib'līsu
O Iblis
مَا What
What
مَنَعَكَ prevented you manaʿaka
prevented you
أَن that an
that
تَسْجُدَ you (should) prostrate tasjuda
you (should) prostrate
لِمَا to (one) whom limā
to (one) whom
خَلَقْتُ I created khalaqtu
I created
بِيَدَىَّ ۖ with My Hands biyadayya
with My Hands
أَسْتَكْبَرْتَ Are you arrogant astakbarta
Are you arrogant
أَمْ or am
or
كُنتَ are you kunta
are you
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْعَالِينَ the exalted ones l-ʿālīna
the exalted ones
٧٥ (75)
(75)
[Allāh] said, "O Iblees, what prevented you from prostrating to that which I created with My hands? Were you arrogant [then], or were you [already] among the haughty?"
38:76
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
أَنَا۠ I am anā
I am
خَيْرٌۭ better khayrun
better
مِّنْهُ ۖ than him min'hu
than him
خَلَقْتَنِى You created me khalaqtanī
You created me
مِن from min
from
نَّارٍۢ fire nārin
fire
وَخَلَقْتَهُۥ and You created him wakhalaqtahu
and You created him
مِن from min
from
طِينٍۢ clay ṭīnin
clay
٧٦ (76)
(76)
He said, "I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay."
38:77
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
فَٱخْرُجْ Then get out fa-ukh'ruj
Then get out
مِنْهَا of it min'hā
of it
فَإِنَّكَ for indeed, you fa-innaka
for indeed, you
رَجِيمٌۭ (are) accursed rajīmun
(are) accursed

(77)
[Allāh] said, "Then get out of it [i.e., Paradise], for indeed, you are expelled.
38:78
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
عَلَيْكَ upon you ʿalayka
upon you
لَعْنَتِىٓ (is) My curse laʿnatī
(is) My curse
إِلَىٰ until ilā
until
يَوْمِ (the) Day yawmi
(the) Day
ٱلدِّينِ (of) Judgment l-dīni
(of) Judgment
٧٨ (78)
(78)
And indeed, upon you is My curse until the Day of Recompense."
38:79
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ Then give me respite fa-anẓir'nī
Then give me respite
إِلَىٰ until ilā
until
يَوْمِ (the) Day yawmi
(the) Day
يُبْعَثُونَ they are resurrected yub'ʿathūna
they are resurrected
٧٩ (79)
(79)
He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected."
38:80
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
فَإِنَّكَ Then indeed, you fa-innaka
Then indeed, you
مِنَ (are) of mina
(are) of
ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ those given respite l-munẓarīna
those given respite
٨٠ (80)
(80)
[Allāh] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved
38:81
إِلَىٰ Until ilā
Until
يَوْمِ (the) Day yawmi
(the) Day
ٱلْوَقْتِ (of) the time l-waqti
(of) the time
ٱلْمَعْلُومِ well-known l-maʿlūmi
well-known
٨١ (81)
(81)
Until the Day of the time well-known."
38:82
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
فَبِعِزَّتِكَ Then by Your might fabiʿizzatika
Then by Your might
لَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ I will surely mislead them la-ugh'wiyannahum
I will surely mislead them
أَجْمَعِينَ all ajmaʿīna
all
٨٢ (82)
(82)
[Iblees] said, "By Your might, I will surely mislead them all.
38:83
إِلَّا Except illā
Except
عِبَادَكَ Your slaves ʿibādaka
Your slaves
مِنْهُمُ among them min'humu
among them
ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ the chosen ones l-mukh'laṣīna
the chosen ones
٨٣ (83)
(83)
Except, among them, Your chosen servants."
38:84
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
فَٱلْحَقُّ Then (it is) the truth fal-ḥaqu
Then (it is) the truth
وَٱلْحَقَّ and the truth wal-ḥaqa
and the truth
أَقُولُ I say aqūlu
I say
٨٤ (84)
(84)
[Allāh] said, "The truth [is My oath], and the truth I say -
38:85
لَأَمْلَأَنَّ Surely I will fill la-amla-anna
Surely I will fill
جَهَنَّمَ Hell jahannama
Hell
مِنكَ with you minka
with you
وَمِمَّن and those who wamimman
and those who
تَبِعَكَ follow you tabiʿaka
follow you
مِنْهُمْ among them min'hum
among them
أَجْمَعِينَ all ajmaʿīna
all
٨٥ (85)
(85)
[That] I will surely fill Hell with you and those of them that follow you all together."
38:86
قُلْ Say qul
Say
مَآ Not
Not
أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ I ask of you asalukum
I ask of you
عَلَيْهِ for it ʿalayhi
for it
مِنْ any min
any
أَجْرٍۢ payment ajrin
payment
وَمَآ and not wamā
and not
أَنَا۠ I am anā
I am
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ the ones who pretend l-mutakalifīna
the ones who pretend
٨٦ (86)
(86)
Say, [O Muḥammad], "I do not ask you for it [i.e., the Qur’ān] any payment, and I am not of the pretentious.
38:87
إِنْ Not in
Not
هُوَ it (is) huwa
it (is)
إِلَّا except illā
except
ذِكْرٌۭ a Reminder dhik'run
a Reminder
لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ to the worlds lil'ʿālamīna
to the worlds
٨٧ (87)
(87)
It is but a reminder to the worlds.
38:88
وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ And surely you will know walataʿlamunna
And surely you will know
نَبَأَهُۥ its information naba-ahu
its information
بَعْدَ after baʿda
after
حِينٍۭ a time ḥīnin
a time
٨٨ (88)
(88)
And you will surely know [the truth of] its information after a time."
