Al-Muzzammil

بِسْمِ In (the) name bis'mi
In (the) name ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā
O you ٱلْمُزَّمِّلُ who wraps himself l-muzamilu
who wraps himself ١ (1)
(1)

قُمِ Stand qumi
Stand ٱلَّيْلَ (in) the night al-layla
(in) the night إِلَّا except illā
except قَلِيلًۭا a little qalīlan
a little ٢ (2)
(2)

نِّصْفَهُۥٓ Half of it niṣ'fahu
Half of it أَوِ or awi
or ٱنقُصْ lessen unquṣ
lessen مِنْهُ from it min'hu
from it قَلِيلًا a little qalīlan
a little ٣ (3)
(3)

أَوْ Or aw
Or زِدْ add zid
add عَلَيْهِ to it ʿalayhi
to it وَرَتِّلِ and recite warattili
and recite ٱلْقُرْءَانَ the Quran l-qur'āna
the Quran تَرْتِيلًا (with) measured rhythmic recitation tartīlan
(with) measured rhythmic recitation ٤ (4)
(4)

إِنَّا Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We سَنُلْقِى will cast sanul'qī
will cast عَلَيْكَ upon you ʿalayka
upon you قَوْلًۭا a Word qawlan
a Word ثَقِيلًا heavy thaqīlan
heavy ٥ (5)
(5)

إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed نَاشِئَةَ (the) rising nāshi-ata
(the) rising ٱلَّيْلِ (at) the night al-layli
(at) the night هِىَ it hiya
it أَشَدُّ (is) very hard ashaddu
(is) very hard وَطْـًۭٔا and most potent waṭan
and most potent وَأَقْوَمُ and more suitable wa-aqwamu
and more suitable قِيلًا (for) Word qīlan
(for) Word ٦ (6)
(6)

إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed لَكَ for you laka
for you فِى in fī
in ٱلنَّهَارِ the day l-nahāri
the day سَبْحًۭا (is) occupation sabḥan
(is) occupation طَوِيلًۭا prolonged ṭawīlan
prolonged ٧ (7)
(7)

وَٱذْكُرِ And remember wa-udh'kuri
And remember ٱسْمَ (the) name is'ma
(the) name رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord rabbika
(of) your Lord وَتَبَتَّلْ and devote yourself watabattal
and devote yourself إِلَيْهِ to Him ilayhi
to Him تَبْتِيلًۭا (with) devotion tabtīlan
(with) devotion ٨ (8)
(8)

رَّبُّ (The) Lord rabbu
(The) Lord ٱلْمَشْرِقِ (of) the east l-mashriqi
(of) the east وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ and the west wal-maghribi
and the west لَآ (there is) no lā
(there is) no إِلَـٰهَ god ilāha
god إِلَّا except illā
except هُوَ Him huwa
Him فَٱتَّخِذْهُ so take Him fa-ittakhidh'hu
so take Him وَكِيلًۭا (as) Disposer of Affairs wakīlan
(as) Disposer of Affairs ٩ (9)
(9)

وَٱصْبِرْ And be patient wa-iṣ'bir
And be patient عَلَىٰ over ʿalā
over مَا what mā
what يَقُولُونَ they say yaqūlūna
they say وَٱهْجُرْهُمْ and avoid them wa-uh'jur'hum
and avoid them هَجْرًۭا an avoidance hajran
an avoidance جَمِيلًۭا gracious jamīlan
gracious ١٠ (10)
(10)

وَذَرْنِى And leave Me wadharnī
And leave Me وَٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ and the deniers wal-mukadhibīna
and the deniers أُو۟لِى possessors ulī
possessors ٱلنَّعْمَةِ (of) the ease l-naʿmati
(of) the ease وَمَهِّلْهُمْ and allow them respite wamahhil'hum
and allow them respite قَلِيلًا a little qalīlan
a little ١١ (11)
(11)

إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed لَدَيْنَآ with Us ladaynā
with Us أَنكَالًۭا (are) shackles ankālan
(are) shackles وَجَحِيمًۭا and burning fire wajaḥīman
and burning fire ١٢ (12)
(12)

وَطَعَامًۭا And food waṭaʿāman
And food ذَا that dhā
that غُصَّةٍۢ chokes ghuṣṣatin
chokes وَعَذَابًا and a punishment waʿadhāban
and a punishment أَلِيمًۭا painful alīman
painful ١٣ (13)
(13)

يَوْمَ (On the) Day yawma
(On the) Day تَرْجُفُ will quake tarjufu
will quake ٱلْأَرْضُ the earth l-arḍu
the earth وَٱلْجِبَالُ and the mountains wal-jibālu
and the mountains وَكَانَتِ and will become wakānati
and will become ٱلْجِبَالُ the mountains l-jibālu
the mountains كَثِيبًۭا a heap of sand kathīban
a heap of sand مَّهِيلًا pouring down mahīlan
pouring down ١٤ (14)
(14)

إِنَّآ Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We أَرْسَلْنَآ [We] have sent arsalnā
[We] have sent إِلَيْكُمْ to you ilaykum
to you رَسُولًۭا a Messenger rasūlan
a Messenger شَـٰهِدًا (as) a witness shāhidan
(as) a witness عَلَيْكُمْ upon you ʿalaykum
upon you كَمَآ as kamā
as أَرْسَلْنَآ We sent arsalnā
We sent إِلَىٰ to ilā
to فِرْعَوْنَ Firaun fir'ʿawna
Firaun رَسُولًۭا a Messenger rasūlan
a Messenger ١٥ (15)
(15)

فَعَصَىٰ But disobeyed faʿaṣā
But disobeyed فِرْعَوْنُ Firaun fir'ʿawnu
Firaun ٱلرَّسُولَ the Messenger l-rasūla
the Messenger فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُ so We seized him fa-akhadhnāhu
so We seized him أَخْذًۭا (with) a seizure akhdhan
(with) a seizure وَبِيلًۭا ruinous wabīlan
ruinous ١٦ (16)
(16)

فَكَيْفَ Then how fakayfa
Then how تَتَّقُونَ will you guard yourselves tattaqūna
will you guard yourselves إِن if in
if كَفَرْتُمْ you disbelieve kafartum
you disbelieve يَوْمًۭا a Day yawman
a Day يَجْعَلُ (that) will make yajʿalu
(that) will make ٱلْوِلْدَٰنَ the children l-wil'dāna
the children شِيبًا gray-haired shīban
gray-haired ١٧ (17)
(17)

ٱلسَّمَآءُ The heaven al-samāu
The heaven مُنفَطِرٌۢ (will) break apart munfaṭirun
(will) break apart بِهِۦ ۚ therefrom bihi
therefrom كَانَ is kāna
is وَعْدُهُۥ His Promise waʿduhu
His Promise مَفْعُولًا to be fulfilled mafʿūlan
to be fulfilled ١٨ (18)
(18)

إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed هَـٰذِهِۦ this hādhihi
this تَذْكِرَةٌۭ ۖ (is) a Reminder tadhkiratun
(is) a Reminder فَمَن then whoever faman
then whoever شَآءَ wills shāa
wills ٱتَّخَذَ (let him) take ittakhadha
(let him) take إِلَىٰ to ilā
to رَبِّهِۦ his Lord rabbihi
his Lord سَبِيلًا a way sabīlan
a way ١٩ (19)
(19)

۞ إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord rabbaka
your Lord يَعْلَمُ knows yaʿlamu
knows أَنَّكَ that you annaka
that you تَقُومُ stand taqūmu
stand أَدْنَىٰ (a little) less adnā
(a little) less مِن than min
than ثُلُثَىِ two-thirds thuluthayi
two-thirds ٱلَّيْلِ (of) the night al-layli
(of) the night وَنِصْفَهُۥ and half of it waniṣ'fahu
and half of it وَثُلُثَهُۥ and a third of it wathuluthahu
and a third of it وَطَآئِفَةٌۭ and (so do) a group waṭāifatun
and (so do) a group مِّنَ of mina
of ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who مَعَكَ ۚ (are) with you maʿaka
(are) with you وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah يُقَدِّرُ determines yuqaddiru
determines ٱلَّيْلَ the night al-layla
the night وَٱلنَّهَارَ ۚ and the day wal-nahāra
and the day عَلِمَ He knows ʿalima
He knows أَن that an
that لَّن not lan
not تُحْصُوهُ you count it tuḥ'ṣūhu
you count it فَتَابَ so He has turned fatāba
so He has turned عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ to you ʿalaykum
to you فَٱقْرَءُوا۟ so recite fa-iq'raū
so recite مَا what mā
what تَيَسَّرَ is easy tayassara
is easy مِنَ of mina
of ٱلْقُرْءَانِ ۚ the Quran l-qur'āni
the Quran عَلِمَ He knows ʿalima
He knows أَن that an
that سَيَكُونُ there will be sayakūnu
there will be مِنكُم among you minkum
among you مَّرْضَىٰ ۙ sick marḍā
sick وَءَاخَرُونَ and others waākharūna
and others يَضْرِبُونَ traveling yaḍribūna
traveling فِى in fī
in ٱلْأَرْضِ the land l-arḍi
the land يَبْتَغُونَ seeking yabtaghūna
seeking مِن of min
of فَضْلِ (the) Bounty faḍli
(the) Bounty ٱللَّهِ ۙ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah وَءَاخَرُونَ and others waākharūna
and others يُقَـٰتِلُونَ fighting yuqātilūna
fighting فِى in fī
in سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way ٱللَّهِ ۖ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah فَٱقْرَءُوا۟ So recite fa-iq'raū
So recite مَا what mā
what تَيَسَّرَ is easy tayassara
is easy مِنْهُ ۚ of it min'hu
of it وَأَقِيمُوا۟ and establish wa-aqīmū
and establish ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer l-ṣalata
the prayer وَءَاتُوا۟ and give waātū
and give ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ the zakah l-zakata
the zakah وَأَقْرِضُوا۟ and loan wa-aqriḍū
and loan ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah قَرْضًا a loan qarḍan
a loan حَسَنًۭا ۚ goodly ḥasanan
goodly وَمَا And whatever wamā
And whatever تُقَدِّمُوا۟ you send forth tuqaddimū
you send forth لِأَنفُسِكُم for yourselves li-anfusikum
for yourselves مِّنْ of min
of خَيْرٍۢ good khayrin
good تَجِدُوهُ you will find it tajidūhu
you will find it عِندَ with ʿinda
with ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah هُوَ It huwa
It خَيْرًۭا (will be) better khayran
(will be) better وَأَعْظَمَ and greater wa-aʿẓama
and greater أَجْرًۭا ۚ (in) reward ajran
(in) reward وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ And seek forgiveness wa-is'taghfirū
And seek forgiveness ٱللَّهَ ۖ (of) Allah l-laha
(of) Allah إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah غَفُورٌۭ (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun
(is) Oft-Forgiving رَّحِيمٌۢ Most Merciful raḥīmun
Most Merciful ٢٠ (20)
