Bismillah

بِسْمِ In (the) name ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

59:1

سَبَّحَ Glorifies لِلَّهِ [to] Allah مَا whatever فِى (is) in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَمَا and whatever فِى (is) in ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ the earth وَهُوَ And He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلْحَكِيمُ the All-Wise ١ (1)

Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth exalts Allāh, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

59:2

هُوَ He ٱلَّذِىٓ (is) the One Who أَخْرَجَ expelled ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved مِنْ from أَهْلِ (the) People ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Scripture مِن from دِيَـٰرِهِمْ their homes لِأَوَّلِ at (the) first ٱلْحَشْرِ ۚ gathering مَا Not ظَنَنتُمْ you think أَن that يَخْرُجُوا۟ ۖ they would leave وَظَنُّوٓا۟ and they thought أَنَّهُم that [they] مَّانِعَتُهُمْ would defend them حُصُونُهُم their fortresses مِّنَ against ٱللَّهِ Allah فَأَتَىٰهُمُ But came to them ٱللَّهُ Allah مِنْ from حَيْثُ where لَمْ not يَحْتَسِبُوا۟ ۖ they expected وَقَذَفَ and He cast فِى into قُلُوبِهِمُ their hearts ٱلرُّعْبَ ۚ [the] terror يُخْرِبُونَ they destroyed بُيُوتَهُم their houses بِأَيْدِيهِمْ with their hands وَأَيْدِى and the hands ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ (of) the believers فَٱعْتَبِرُوا۟ So take a lesson يَـٰٓأُو۟لِى O those endowed ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ (with) insight ٢ (2)

It is He who expelled the ones who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture from their homes at the first gathering. You did not think they would leave, and they thought that their fortresses would protect them from Allāh; but [the decree of] Allāh came upon them from where they had not expected, and He cast terror into their hearts [so] they destroyed their houses by their [own] hands and the hands of the believers. So take warning, O people of vision.

59:3

وَلَوْلَآ And if not أَن [that] كَتَبَ (had) decreed ٱللَّهُ Allah عَلَيْهِمُ for them ٱلْجَلَآءَ the exile لَعَذَّبَهُمْ certainly He (would) have punished them فِى in ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ the world وَلَهُمْ and for them فِى in ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ the Hereafter عَذَابُ (is) a punishment ٱلنَّارِ (of) the Fire ٣ (3)

And if not that Allāh had decreed for them evacuation, He would have punished them in [this] world, and for them in the Hereafter is the punishment of the Fire.

59:4

ذَٰلِكَ That بِأَنَّهُمْ (is) because [they] شَآقُّوا۟ they opposed ٱللَّهَ Allah وَرَسُولَهُۥ ۖ and His Messenger وَمَن And whoever يُشَآقِّ opposes ٱللَّهَ Allah فَإِنَّ then indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah شَدِيدُ (is) severe ٱلْعِقَابِ (in) penalty ٤ (4)

That is because they opposed Allāh and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allāh - then indeed, Allāh is severe in penalty.

59:5

مَا Whatever قَطَعْتُم you cut down مِّن of لِّينَةٍ (the) palm-trees أَوْ or تَرَكْتُمُوهَا you left them قَآئِمَةً standing عَلَىٰٓ on أُصُولِهَا their roots فَبِإِذْنِ it (was) by the permission ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah وَلِيُخْزِىَ and that He may disgrace ٱلْفَـٰسِقِينَ the defiantly disobedient ٥ (5)

Whatever you have cut down of [their] palm trees or left standing on their trunks - it was by permission of Allāh and so He would disgrace the defiantly disobedient.

59:6

وَمَآ And what أَفَآءَ (was) restored ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah عَلَىٰ to رَسُولِهِۦ His Messenger مِنْهُمْ from them فَمَآ then not أَوْجَفْتُمْ you made expedition عَلَيْهِ for it مِنْ of خَيْلٍۢ horses وَلَا and not رِكَابٍۢ camels وَلَـٰكِنَّ but ٱللَّهَ Allah يُسَلِّطُ gives power رُسُلَهُۥ (to) His Messengers عَلَىٰ over مَن whom يَشَآءُ ۚ He wills وَٱللَّهُ And Allah عَلَىٰ (is) on كُلِّ every شَىْءٍۢ thing قَدِيرٌۭ All-Powerful ٦ (6)

And what Allāh restored [of property] to His Messenger from them - you did not spur for it [in an expedition] any horses or camels, but Allāh gives His messengers power over whom He wills, and Allāh is over all things competent.

59:7

مَّآ What أَفَآءَ (was) restored ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah عَلَىٰ to رَسُولِهِۦ His Messenger مِنْ from أَهْلِ (the) people ٱلْقُرَىٰ (of) the towns فَلِلَّهِ (it is) for Allah وَلِلرَّسُولِ and His Messenger وَلِذِى and for those ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ (of) the kindred وَٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ and the orphans وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينِ and the needy وَٱبْنِ and ٱلسَّبِيلِ the wayfarer كَىْ that لَا not يَكُونَ it becomes دُولَةًۢ a (perpetual) circulation بَيْنَ between ٱلْأَغْنِيَآءِ the rich مِنكُمْ ۚ among you وَمَآ And whatever ءَاتَىٰكُمُ gives you ٱلرَّسُولُ the Messenger فَخُذُوهُ take it وَمَا and whatever نَهَىٰكُمْ he forbids you عَنْهُ from it فَٱنتَهُوا۟ ۚ refrain وَٱتَّقُوا۟ And fear ٱللَّهَ ۖ Allah إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah شَدِيدُ (is) severe ٱلْعِقَابِ (in) penalty ٧ (7)

And what Allāh restored to His Messenger from the people of the towns - it is for Allāh and for the Messenger and for [his] near relatives and orphans and the needy and the [stranded] traveler - so that it will not be a perpetual distribution among the rich from among you. And whatever the Messenger has given you - take; and what he has forbidden you - refrain from. And fear Allāh; indeed, Allāh is severe in penalty.

59:8

لِلْفُقَرَآءِ For the poor ٱلْمُهَـٰجِرِينَ emigrants ٱلَّذِينَ those who أُخْرِجُوا۟ were expelled مِن from دِيَـٰرِهِمْ their homes وَأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ and their properties يَبْتَغُونَ seeking فَضْلًۭا bounty مِّنَ from ٱللَّهِ Allah وَرِضْوَٰنًۭا and pleasure وَيَنصُرُونَ and helping ٱللَّهَ Allah وَرَسُولَهُۥٓ ۚ and His Messenger أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those هُمُ they ٱلصَّـٰدِقُونَ (are) the truthful ٨ (8)

For the poor emigrants who were expelled from their homes and their properties, seeking bounty from Allāh and [His] approval and supporting [the cause of] Allāh and His Messenger, [there is also a share]. Those are the truthful.

59:9

وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who تَبَوَّءُو settled ٱلدَّارَ (in) the home وَٱلْإِيمَـٰنَ and (accepted) faith مِن from قَبْلِهِمْ before them يُحِبُّونَ love مَنْ (those) who هَاجَرَ emigrated إِلَيْهِمْ to them وَلَا and not يَجِدُونَ they find فِى in صُدُورِهِمْ their breasts حَاجَةًۭ any want مِّمَّآ of what أُوتُوا۟ they were given وَيُؤْثِرُونَ but prefer عَلَىٰٓ over أَنفُسِهِمْ themselves وَلَوْ even though كَانَ was بِهِمْ with them خَصَاصَةٌۭ ۚ poverty وَمَن And whoever يُوقَ is saved شُحَّ (from) stinginess نَفْسِهِۦ (of) his soul فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those هُمُ [they] ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ (are) the successful ones ٩ (9)

And [also for] those who were settled in the Home [i.e.,al-Madīnah] and [adopted] the faith before them. They love those who emigrated to them and find not any want in their breasts of what they [i.e., the emigrants] were given but give [them] preference over themselves, even though they are in privation. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul - it is those who will be the successful.
