بِسْمِ In (the) name bis'mi
In (the) name
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
٤٧:١
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
وَصَدُّوا۟ and turn away waṣaddū
and turn away
عَن from ʿan
from
سَبِيلِ (the) way of Allah sabīli
(the) way of Allah
ٱللَّهِ (the) way of Allah l-lahi
(the) way of Allah
أَضَلَّ He will cause to be lost aḍalla
He will cause to be lost
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ their deeds aʿmālahum
their deeds
١ (1)
(1)
Those who disbelieve and avert [people] from the way of Allāh - He will waste their deeds.
٤٧:٢
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
وَءَامَنُوا۟ and believe waāmanū
and believe
بِمَا in what bimā
in what
نُزِّلَ is revealed nuzzila
is revealed
عَلَىٰ to ʿalā
to
مُحَمَّدٍۢ Muhammad muḥammadin
Muhammad
وَهُوَ and it wahuwa
and it
ٱلْحَقُّ (is) the truth l-ḥaqu
(is) the truth
مِن from min
from
رَّبِّهِمْ ۙ their Lord rabbihim
their Lord
كَفَّرَ He will remove kaffara
He will remove
عَنْهُمْ from them ʿanhum
from them
سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ their misdeeds sayyiātihim
their misdeeds
وَأَصْلَحَ and improve wa-aṣlaḥa
and improve
بَالَهُمْ their condition bālahum
their condition
٢ (2)
(2)
And those who believe and do righteous deeds and believe in what has been sent down upon Muḥammad - and it is the truth from their Lord - He will remove from them their misdeeds and amend their condition.
٤٧:٣
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
بِأَنَّ (is) because bi-anna
(is) because
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ follow ittabaʿū
follow
ٱلْبَـٰطِلَ falsehood l-bāṭila
falsehood
وَأَنَّ and that wa-anna
and that
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ follow ittabaʿū
follow
ٱلْحَقَّ (the) truth l-ḥaqa
(the) truth
مِن from min
from
رَّبِّهِمْ ۚ their Lord rabbihim
their Lord
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika
Thus
يَضْرِبُ Allah presents yaḍribu
Allah presents
ٱللَّهُ Allah presents l-lahu
Allah presents
لِلنَّاسِ to the people lilnnāsi
to the people
أَمْثَـٰلَهُمْ their similitudes amthālahum
their similitudes
٣ (3)
(3)
That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, and those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus does Allāh present to the people their comparisons.
٤٧:٤
فَإِذَا So when fa-idhā
So when
لَقِيتُمُ you meet laqītumu
you meet
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
فَضَرْبَ then strike faḍarba
then strike
ٱلرِّقَابِ the necks l-riqābi
the necks
حَتَّىٰٓ until ḥattā
until
إِذَآ when idhā
when
أَثْخَنتُمُوهُمْ you have subdued them athkhantumūhum
you have subdued them
فَشُدُّوا۟ then bind firmly fashuddū
then bind firmly
ٱلْوَثَاقَ the bond l-wathāqa
the bond
فَإِمَّا then either fa-immā
then either
مَنًّۢا a favor mannan
a favor
بَعْدُ afterwards baʿdu
afterwards
وَإِمَّا or wa-immā
or
فِدَآءً ransom fidāan
ransom
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
تَضَعَ lays down taḍaʿa
lays down
ٱلْحَرْبُ the war l-ḥarbu
the war
أَوْزَارَهَا ۚ its burdens awzārahā
its burdens
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
وَلَوْ And if walaw
And if
يَشَآءُ Allah had willed yashāu
Allah had willed
ٱللَّهُ Allah had willed l-lahu
Allah had willed
لَٱنتَصَرَ surely, He could have taken retribution la-intaṣara
surely, He could have taken retribution
مِنْهُمْ from them min'hum
from them
وَلَـٰكِن but walākin
but
لِّيَبْلُوَا۟ to test liyabluwā
to test
بَعْضَكُم some of you baʿḍakum
some of you
بِبَعْضٍۢ ۗ with others bibaʿḍin
with others
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
قُتِلُوا۟ are killed qutilū
are killed
فِى in
in
سَبِيلِ (the) way of Allah sabīli
(the) way of Allah
ٱللَّهِ (the) way of Allah l-lahi
(the) way of Allah
فَلَن then never falan
then never
يُضِلَّ He will cause to be lost yuḍilla
He will cause to be lost
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ their deeds aʿmālahum
their deeds
٤ (4)
(4)
So when you meet those who disbelieve [in battle], strike [their] necks until, when you have inflicted slaughter upon them, then secure [their] bonds, and either [confer] favor afterwards or ransom [them] until the war lays down its burdens. That [is the command]. And if Allāh had willed, He could have taken vengeance upon them [Himself], but [He ordered armed struggle] to test some of you by means of others. And those who are killed in the cause of Allāh - never will He waste their deeds.
٤٧:٥
سَيَهْدِيهِمْ He will guide them sayahdīhim
He will guide them
وَيُصْلِحُ and improve wayuṣ'liḥu
and improve
بَالَهُمْ their condition bālahum
their condition
٥ (5)
(5)
He will guide them and amend their condition
٤٧:٦
وَيُدْخِلُهُمُ And admit them wayud'khiluhumu
And admit them
ٱلْجَنَّةَ (to) Paradise l-janata
(to) Paradise
عَرَّفَهَا He has made it known ʿarrafahā
He has made it known
لَهُمْ to them lahum
to them
٦ (6)
(6)
And admit them to Paradise, which He has made known to them.
٤٧:٧
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you who believe yāayyuhā
O you who believe
ٱلَّذِينَ O you who believe alladhīna
O you who believe
ءَامَنُوٓا۟ O you who believe āmanū
O you who believe
إِن If in
If
تَنصُرُوا۟ you help tanṣurū
you help
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
يَنصُرْكُمْ He will help you yanṣur'kum
He will help you
وَيُثَبِّتْ and make firm wayuthabbit
and make firm
أَقْدَامَكُمْ your feet aqdāmakum
your feet
٧ (7)
(7)
O you who have believed, if you support Allāh, He will support you and plant firmly your feet.
٤٧:٨
وَٱلَّذِينَ But those who wa-alladhīna
But those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
فَتَعْسًۭا destruction (is) fataʿsan
destruction (is)
لَّهُمْ for them lahum
for them
وَأَضَلَّ and He will cause to be lost wa-aḍalla
and He will cause to be lost
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ their deeds aʿmālahum
their deeds
٨ (8)
(8)
But those who disbelieve - for them is misery, and He will waste their deeds.
٤٧:٩
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
بِأَنَّهُمْ (is) because they bi-annahum
(is) because they
كَرِهُوا۟ hate karihū
hate
مَآ what
what
أَنزَلَ Allah has revealed anzala
Allah has revealed
ٱللَّهُ Allah has revealed l-lahu
Allah has revealed
فَأَحْبَطَ so He has made worthless fa-aḥbaṭa
so He has made worthless
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ their deeds aʿmālahum
their deeds
٩ (9)
(9)
That is because they disliked what Allāh revealed, so He rendered worthless their deeds.
٤٧:١٠
۞ أَفَلَمْ Do not afalam
Do not
يَسِيرُوا۟ they travel yasīrū
they travel
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
فَيَنظُرُوا۟ and see fayanẓurū
and see
كَيْفَ how kayfa
how
كَانَ was kāna
was
عَـٰقِبَةُ (the) end ʿāqibatu
(the) end
ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those alladhīna
(of) those
مِن before them min
before them
قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ before them qablihim
before them
دَمَّرَ Allah destroyed dammara
Allah destroyed
ٱللَّهُ Allah destroyed l-lahu
Allah destroyed
عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ [over] them ʿalayhim
[over] them
وَلِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ and for the disbelievers walil'kāfirīna
and for the disbelievers
أَمْثَـٰلُهَا its likeness amthāluhā
its likeness
١٠ (10)
(10)
Have they not traveled through the land and seen how was the end of those before them? Allāh destroyed [everything] over them, and for the disbelievers is something comparable.
٤٧:١١
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
بِأَنَّ (is) because bi-anna
(is) because
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
مَوْلَى (is the) Protector mawlā
(is the) Protector
ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who alladhīna
(of) those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
وَأَنَّ and that wa-anna
and that
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ the disbelievers l-kāfirīna
the disbelievers
لَا (there is) no
(there is) no
مَوْلَىٰ protector mawlā
protector
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
١١ (11)
(11)
That is because Allāh is the protector of those who have believed and because the disbelievers have no protector.
٤٧:١٢
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
يُدْخِلُ will admit yud'khilu
will admit
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
جَنَّـٰتٍۢ (to) Gardens jannātin
(to) Gardens
تَجْرِى flow tajrī
flow
مِن from min
from
تَحْتِهَا underneath it taḥtihā
underneath it
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖ the rivers l-anhāru
the rivers
وَٱلَّذِينَ but those who wa-alladhīna
but those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
يَتَمَتَّعُونَ they enjoy yatamattaʿūna
they enjoy
وَيَأْكُلُونَ and eat wayakulūna
and eat
كَمَا as kamā
as
تَأْكُلُ eat takulu
eat
ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمُ the cattle l-anʿāmu
the cattle
وَٱلنَّارُ and the Fire wal-nāru
and the Fire
مَثْوًۭى (will be) an abode mathwan
(will be) an abode
لَّهُمْ for them lahum
for them
١٢ (12)
(12)
Indeed, Allāh will admit those who have believed and done righteous deeds to gardens beneath which rivers flow, but those who disbelieve enjoy themselves and eat as grazing livestock eat, and the Fire will be a residence for them.
٤٧:١٣
وَكَأَيِّن And how many waka-ayyin
And how many
مِّن of min
of
قَرْيَةٍ a town qaryatin
a town
هِىَ which hiya
which
أَشَدُّ (was) stronger ashaddu
(was) stronger
قُوَّةًۭ (in) strength quwwatan
(in) strength
مِّن than min
than
قَرْيَتِكَ your town qaryatika
your town
ٱلَّتِىٓ which allatī
which
أَخْرَجَتْكَ has driven you out akhrajatka
has driven you out
أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ We destroyed them ahlaknāhum
We destroyed them
فَلَا so no falā
so no
نَاصِرَ helper nāṣira
helper
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
١٣ (13)
(13)
And how many a city was stronger than your city [i.e., Makkah] which drove you out? We destroyed them; and there was no helper for them.
٤٧:١٤
أَفَمَن Then is (he) who afaman
Then is (he) who
كَانَ is kāna
is
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
بَيِّنَةٍۢ a clear proof bayyinatin
a clear proof
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّهِۦ his Lord rabbihi
his Lord
كَمَن like (he) who kaman
like (he) who
زُيِّنَ is made attractive zuyyina
is made attractive
لَهُۥ to him lahu
to him
سُوٓءُ (the) evil sūu
(the) evil
عَمَلِهِۦ (of) his deeds ʿamalihi
(of) his deeds
وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ while they follow wa-ittabaʿū
while they follow
أَهْوَآءَهُم their desires ahwāahum
their desires
١٤ (14)
(14)
So is he who is on clear evidence from his Lord like him to whom the evil of his work has been made attractive and they follow their [own] desires?
٤٧:١٥
مَّثَلُ A parable mathalu
A parable
ٱلْجَنَّةِ (of) Paradise l-janati
(of) Paradise
ٱلَّتِى which allatī
which
وُعِدَ is promised wuʿida
is promised
ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ ۖ (to) the righteous l-mutaqūna
(to) the righteous
فِيهَآ Therein fīhā
Therein
أَنْهَـٰرٌۭ (are) rivers anhārun
(are) rivers
مِّن of min
of
مَّآءٍ water māin
water
غَيْرِ not ghayri
not
ءَاسِنٍۢ polluted āsinin
polluted
وَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭ and rivers wa-anhārun
and rivers
مِّن of min
of
لَّبَنٍۢ milk labanin
milk
لَّمْ not lam
not
يَتَغَيَّرْ changes yataghayyar
changes
طَعْمُهُۥ its taste ṭaʿmuhu
its taste
وَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭ and rivers wa-anhārun
and rivers
مِّنْ of min
of
خَمْرٍۢ wine khamrin
wine
لَّذَّةٍۢ delicious ladhatin
delicious
لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ for (the) drinkers lilshāribīna
for (the) drinkers
وَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭ and rivers wa-anhārun
and rivers
مِّنْ of min
of
عَسَلٍۢ honey ʿasalin
honey
مُّصَفًّۭى ۖ purified muṣaffan
purified
وَلَهُمْ and for them walahum
and for them
فِيهَا therein fīhā
therein
مِن of min
of
كُلِّ all kulli
all
ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ fruits l-thamarāti
fruits
وَمَغْفِرَةٌۭ and forgiveness wamaghfiratun
and forgiveness
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ their Lord rabbihim
their Lord
كَمَنْ like he who kaman
like he who
هُوَ like he who huwa
like he who
خَـٰلِدٌۭ (will) abide forever khālidun
(will) abide forever
فِى in
in
ٱلنَّارِ the Fire l-nāri
the Fire
وَسُقُوا۟ and they will be given to drink wasuqū
and they will be given to drink
مَآءً water māan
water
حَمِيمًۭا boiling ḥamīman
boiling
فَقَطَّعَ so it cuts into pieces faqaṭṭaʿa
so it cuts into pieces
أَمْعَآءَهُمْ their intestines amʿāahum
their intestines
١٥ (15)
(15)
Is the description of Paradise, which the righteous are promised, wherein are rivers of water unaltered, rivers of milk the taste of which never changes, rivers of wine delicious to those who drink, and rivers of purified honey, in which they will have from all [kinds of] fruits and forgiveness from their Lord... [Are its inhabitants] like those who abide eternally in the Fire and are given to drink scalding water that will sever their intestines?
٤٧:١٦
وَمِنْهُم And among them wamin'hum
And among them
مَّن (are some) who man
(are some) who
يَسْتَمِعُ listen yastamiʿu
listen
إِلَيْكَ to you ilayka
to you
حَتَّىٰٓ until ḥattā
until
إِذَا when idhā
when
خَرَجُوا۟ they depart kharajū
they depart
مِنْ from min
from
عِندِكَ you ʿindika
you
قَالُوا۟ they say qālū
they say
لِلَّذِينَ to those who lilladhīna
to those who
أُوتُوا۟ were given ūtū
were given
ٱلْعِلْمَ the knowledge l-ʿil'ma
the knowledge
مَاذَا What mādhā
What
قَالَ (has) he said qāla
(has) he said
ءَانِفًا ۚ just now ānifan
just now
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
ٱلَّذِينَ (are) the ones alladhīna
(are) the ones
طَبَعَ Allah has set a seal ṭabaʿa
Allah has set a seal
ٱللَّهُ Allah has set a seal l-lahu
Allah has set a seal
عَلَىٰ upon ʿalā
upon
قُلُوبِهِمْ their hearts qulūbihim
their hearts
وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ and they follow wa-ittabaʿū
and they follow
أَهْوَآءَهُمْ their desires ahwāahum
their desires
١٦ (16)
(16)
And among them, [O Muḥammad], are those who listen to you, until when they depart from you, they say to those who were given knowledge, "What has he said just now?" Those are the ones of whom Allāh has sealed over their hearts and who have followed their [own] desires.
٤٧:١٧
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
ٱهْتَدَوْا۟ accept guidance ih'tadaw
accept guidance
زَادَهُمْ He increases them zādahum
He increases them
هُدًۭى (in) guidance hudan
(in) guidance
وَءَاتَىٰهُمْ and gives them waātāhum
and gives them
تَقْوَىٰهُمْ their righteousness taqwāhum
their righteousness
١٧ (17)
(17)
And those who are guided - He increases them in guidance and gives them their righteousness.
٤٧:١٨
فَهَلْ Then do fahal
Then do
يَنظُرُونَ they wait yanẓurūna
they wait
إِلَّا but illā
but
ٱلسَّاعَةَ (for) the Hour l-sāʿata
(for) the Hour
أَن that an
that
تَأْتِيَهُم it should come to them tatiyahum
it should come to them
بَغْتَةًۭ ۖ suddenly baghtatan
suddenly
فَقَدْ But indeed faqad
But indeed
جَآءَ have come jāa
have come
أَشْرَاطُهَا ۚ its indications ashrāṭuhā
its indications
فَأَنَّىٰ Then how fa-annā
Then how
لَهُمْ to them lahum
to them
إِذَا when idhā
when
جَآءَتْهُمْ has come to them jāathum
has come to them
ذِكْرَىٰهُمْ their reminder dhik'rāhum
their reminder
١٨ (18)
(18)
Then do they await except that the Hour should come upon them unexpectedly? But already there have come [some of] its indications. Then how [i.e., what good] to them, when it has come, will be their remembrance?
٤٧:١٩
فَٱعْلَمْ So know fa-iʿ'lam
So know
أَنَّهُۥ that [He] annahu
that [He]
لَآ (there is) no
(there is) no
إِلَـٰهَ god ilāha
god
إِلَّا but illā
but
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ and ask forgiveness wa-is'taghfir
and ask forgiveness
لِذَنۢبِكَ for your sin lidhanbika
for your sin
وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ and for the believing men walil'mu'minīna
and for the believing men
وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ۗ and the believing women wal-mu'mināti
and the believing women
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
يَعْلَمُ knows yaʿlamu
knows
مُتَقَلَّبَكُمْ your movement mutaqallabakum
your movement
وَمَثْوَىٰكُمْ and your resting places wamathwākum
and your resting places
١٩ (19)
(19)
So know, [O Muḥammad], that there is no deity except Allāh and ask forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women. And Allāh knows of your movement and your resting place.
٤٧:٢٠
وَيَقُولُ And say wayaqūlu
And say
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
لَوْلَا Why not lawlā
Why not
نُزِّلَتْ has been revealed nuzzilat
has been revealed
سُورَةٌۭ ۖ a Surah sūratun
a Surah
فَإِذَآ But when fa-idhā
But when
أُنزِلَتْ is revealed unzilat
is revealed
سُورَةٌۭ a Surah sūratun
a Surah
مُّحْكَمَةٌۭ precise muḥ'kamatun
precise
وَذُكِرَ and is mentioned wadhukira
and is mentioned
فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it
ٱلْقِتَالُ ۙ the fighting l-qitālu
the fighting
رَأَيْتَ you see ra-ayta
you see
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
فِى in
in
قُلُوبِهِم their hearts qulūbihim
their hearts
مَّرَضٌۭ (is) a disease maraḍun
(is) a disease
يَنظُرُونَ looking yanẓurūna
looking
إِلَيْكَ at you ilayka
at you
نَظَرَ a look naẓara
a look
ٱلْمَغْشِىِّ (of) one fainting l-maghshiyi
(of) one fainting
عَلَيْهِ (of) one fainting ʿalayhi
(of) one fainting
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلْمَوْتِ ۖ the death l-mawti
the death
فَأَوْلَىٰ But more appropriate fa-awlā
But more appropriate
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
٢٠ (20)
(20)
Those who believe say, "Why has a sūrah not been sent down?" But when a precise sūrah is revealed and battle is mentioned therein, you see those in whose hearts is disease [i.e., hypocrisy] looking at you with a look of one overcome by death. And more appropriate for them [would have been]
٤٧:٢١
طَاعَةٌۭ (Is) obedience ṭāʿatun
(Is) obedience
وَقَوْلٌۭ and a word waqawlun
and a word
مَّعْرُوفٌۭ ۚ kind maʿrūfun
kind
فَإِذَا And when fa-idhā
And when
عَزَمَ (is) determined ʿazama
(is) determined
ٱلْأَمْرُ the matter l-amru
the matter
فَلَوْ then if falaw
then if
صَدَقُوا۟ they had been true ṣadaqū
they had been true
ٱللَّهَ (to) Allah l-laha
(to) Allah
لَكَانَ surely, it would have been lakāna
surely, it would have been
خَيْرًۭا better khayran
better
لَّهُمْ for them lahum
for them
٢١ (21)
(21)
Obedience and good words. And when the matter [of fighting] was determined, if they had been true to Allāh, it would have been better for them.
٤٧:٢٢
فَهَلْ Then would fahal
Then would
عَسَيْتُمْ you perhaps ʿasaytum
you perhaps
إِن if in
if
تَوَلَّيْتُمْ you are given authority tawallaytum
you are given authority
أَن that an
that
تُفْسِدُوا۟ you cause corruption tuf'sidū
you cause corruption
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
وَتُقَطِّعُوٓا۟ and cut off watuqaṭṭiʿū
and cut off
أَرْحَامَكُمْ your ties of kinship arḥāmakum
your ties of kinship
٢٢ (22)
(22)
So would you perhaps, if you turned away, cause corruption on earth and sever your [ties of] relationship?
٤٧:٢٣
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
ٱلَّذِينَ (are) the ones alladhīna
(are) the ones
لَعَنَهُمُ Allah has cursed them laʿanahumu
Allah has cursed them
ٱللَّهُ Allah has cursed them l-lahu
Allah has cursed them
فَأَصَمَّهُمْ so He made them deaf fa-aṣammahum
so He made them deaf
وَأَعْمَىٰٓ and blinded wa-aʿmā
and blinded
أَبْصَـٰرَهُمْ their vision abṣārahum
their vision
٢٣ (23)
(23)
Those [who do so] are the ones that Allāh has cursed, so He deafened them and blinded their vision.
٤٧:٢٤
أَفَلَا Then do not afalā
Then do not
يَتَدَبَّرُونَ they ponder yatadabbarūna
they ponder
ٱلْقُرْءَانَ (over) the Quran l-qur'āna
(over) the Quran
أَمْ or am
or
عَلَىٰ upon ʿalā
upon
قُلُوبٍ (their) hearts qulūbin
(their) hearts
أَقْفَالُهَآ (are) locks aqfāluhā
(are) locks
٢٤ (24)
(24)
Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’ān, or are there locks upon [their] hearts?
٤٧:٢٥
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ٱرْتَدُّوا۟ return ir'taddū
return
عَلَىٰٓ on ʿalā
on
أَدْبَـٰرِهِم their backs adbārihim
their backs
مِّنۢ after min
after
بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after
مَا what
what
تَبَيَّنَ (has) become clear tabayyana
(has) become clear
لَهُمُ to them lahumu
to them
ٱلْهُدَى ۙ (of) the guidance l-hudā
(of) the guidance
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ Shaitaan l-shayṭānu
Shaitaan
سَوَّلَ enticed sawwala
enticed
لَهُمْ [for] them lahum
[for] them
وَأَمْلَىٰ and prolonged hope wa-amlā
and prolonged hope
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
٢٥ (25)
(25)
Indeed, those who reverted back [to disbelief] after guidance had become clear to them - Satan enticed them and prolonged hope for them.
٤٧:٢٦
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
بِأَنَّهُمْ (is) because they bi-annahum
(is) because they
قَالُوا۟ [they] said qālū
[they] said
لِلَّذِينَ to those who lilladhīna
to those who
كَرِهُوا۟ hate karihū
hate
مَا what
what
نَزَّلَ Allah has revealed nazzala
Allah has revealed
ٱللَّهُ Allah has revealed l-lahu
Allah has revealed
سَنُطِيعُكُمْ We will obey you sanuṭīʿukum
We will obey you
فِى in
in
بَعْضِ part baʿḍi
part
ٱلْأَمْرِ ۖ (of) the matter l-amri
(of) the matter
وَٱللَّهُ But Allah wal-lahu
But Allah
يَعْلَمُ knows yaʿlamu
knows
إِسْرَارَهُمْ their secrets is'rārahum
their secrets
٢٦ (26)
(26)
That is because they said to those who disliked what Allāh sent down, "We will obey you in part of the matter." And Allāh knows what they conceal.
٤٧:٢٧
فَكَيْفَ Then how fakayfa
Then how
إِذَا when idhā
when
تَوَفَّتْهُمُ take them in death tawaffathumu
take them in death
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ the Angels l-malāikatu
the Angels
يَضْرِبُونَ striking yaḍribūna
striking
وُجُوهَهُمْ their faces wujūhahum
their faces
وَأَدْبَـٰرَهُمْ and their backs wa-adbārahum
and their backs
٢٧ (27)
(27)
Then how [will it be] when the angels take them in death, striking their faces and their backs?
٤٧:٢٨
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
بِأَنَّهُمُ (is) because they bi-annahumu
(is) because they
ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ followed ittabaʿū
followed
مَآ what
what
أَسْخَطَ angered askhaṭa
angered
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
وَكَرِهُوا۟ and hated wakarihū
and hated
رِضْوَٰنَهُۥ His pleasure riḍ'wānahu
His pleasure
فَأَحْبَطَ so He made worthless fa-aḥbaṭa
so He made worthless
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ their deeds aʿmālahum
their deeds
٢٨ (28)
(28)
That is because they followed what angered Allāh and disliked [what earns] His pleasure, so He rendered worthless their deeds.
٤٧:٢٩
أَمْ Or do am
Or do
حَسِبَ think ḥasiba
think
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
فِى in
in
قُلُوبِهِم their hearts qulūbihim
their hearts
مَّرَضٌ (is) a disease maraḍun
(is) a disease
أَن that an
that
لَّن never lan
never
يُخْرِجَ will Allah bring forth yukh'rija
will Allah bring forth
ٱللَّهُ will Allah bring forth l-lahu
will Allah bring forth
أَضْغَـٰنَهُمْ their hatred aḍghānahum
their hatred
٢٩ (29)
(29)
Or do those in whose hearts is disease think that Allāh would never expose their [feelings of] hatred?
٤٧:٣٠
وَلَوْ And if walaw
And if
نَشَآءُ We willed nashāu
We willed
لَأَرَيْنَـٰكَهُمْ surely, We could show them to you la-araynākahum
surely, We could show them to you
فَلَعَرَفْتَهُم and you would know them falaʿaraftahum
and you would know them
بِسِيمَـٰهُمْ ۚ by their marks bisīmāhum
by their marks
وَلَتَعْرِفَنَّهُمْ but surely, you will know them walataʿrifannahum
but surely, you will know them
فِى by
by
لَحْنِ (the) tone laḥni
(the) tone
ٱلْقَوْلِ ۚ (of their) speech l-qawli
(of their) speech
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
يَعْلَمُ knows yaʿlamu
knows
أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْ your deeds aʿmālakum
your deeds
٣٠ (30)
(30)
And if We willed, We could show them to you, and you would know them by their mark; but you will surely know them by the tone of [their] speech. And Allāh knows your deeds.
٤٧:٣١
وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُمْ And surely We will test you walanabluwannakum
And surely We will test you
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
نَعْلَمَ We make evident naʿlama
We make evident
ٱلْمُجَـٰهِدِينَ those who strive l-mujāhidīna
those who strive
مِنكُمْ among you minkum
among you
وَٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ and the patient ones wal-ṣābirīna
and the patient ones
وَنَبْلُوَا۟ and We will test wanabluwā
and We will test
أَخْبَارَكُمْ your affairs akhbārakum
your affairs
٣١ (31)
(31)
And We will surely test you until We make evident those who strive among you [for the cause of Allāh] and the patient, and We will test your affairs.
٤٧:٣٢
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
وَصَدُّوا۟ and turn away waṣaddū
and turn away
عَن from ʿan
from
سَبِيلِ (the) way of Allah sabīli
(the) way of Allah
ٱللَّهِ (the) way of Allah l-lahi
(the) way of Allah
وَشَآقُّوا۟ and oppose washāqqū
and oppose
ٱلرَّسُولَ the Messenger l-rasūla
the Messenger
مِنۢ after min
after
بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after
مَا [what]
[what]
تَبَيَّنَ (has been) made clear tabayyana
(has been) made clear
لَهُمُ to them lahumu
to them
ٱلْهُدَىٰ the guidance l-hudā
the guidance
لَن never lan
never
يَضُرُّوا۟ will they harm yaḍurrū
will they harm
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
شَيْـًۭٔا (in) anything shayan
(in) anything
وَسَيُحْبِطُ and He will make worthless wasayuḥ'biṭu
and He will make worthless
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ their deeds aʿmālahum
their deeds
٣٢ (32)
(32)
Indeed, those who disbelieved and averted [people] from the path of Allāh and opposed the Messenger after guidance had become clear to them - never will they harm Allāh at all, and He will render worthless their deeds.
٤٧:٣٣
۞ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you who believe yāayyuhā
O you who believe
ٱلَّذِينَ O you who believe alladhīna
O you who believe
ءَامَنُوٓا۟ O you who believe āmanū
O you who believe
أَطِيعُوا۟ Obey aṭīʿū
Obey
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
وَأَطِيعُوا۟ and obey wa-aṭīʿū
and obey
ٱلرَّسُولَ the Messenger l-rasūla
the Messenger
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تُبْطِلُوٓا۟ make vain tub'ṭilū
make vain
أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْ your deeds aʿmālakum
your deeds
٣٣ (33)
(33)
O you who have believed, obey Allāh and obey the Messenger and do not invalidate your deeds.
٤٧:٣٤
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
وَصَدُّوا۟ and turn away waṣaddū
and turn away
عَن from ʿan
from
سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
مَاتُوا۟ died mātū
died
وَهُمْ while they wahum
while they
كُفَّارٌۭ (were) disbelievers kuffārun
(were) disbelievers
فَلَن never falan
never
يَغْفِرَ will Allah forgive yaghfira
will Allah forgive
ٱللَّهُ will Allah forgive l-lahu
will Allah forgive
لَهُمْ them lahum
them
٣٤ (34)
(34)
Indeed, those who disbelieved and averted [people] from the path of Allāh and then died while they were disbelievers - never will Allāh forgive them.
٤٧:٣٥
فَلَا So (do) not falā
So (do) not
تَهِنُوا۟ weaken tahinū
weaken
وَتَدْعُوٓا۟ and call watadʿū
and call
إِلَى for ilā
for
ٱلسَّلْمِ peace l-salmi
peace
وَأَنتُمُ while you wa-antumu
while you
ٱلْأَعْلَوْنَ (are) superior l-aʿlawna
(are) superior
وَٱللَّهُ and Allah wal-lahu
and Allah
مَعَكُمْ (is) with you maʿakum
(is) with you
وَلَن and never walan
and never
يَتِرَكُمْ will deprive you yatirakum
will deprive you
أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْ (of) your deeds aʿmālakum
(of) your deeds
٣٥ (35)
(35)
So do not weaken and call for peace while you are superior; and Allāh is with you and will never deprive you of [the reward of] your deeds.
٤٧:٣٦
إِنَّمَا Only innamā
Only
ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ the life l-ḥayatu
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
لَعِبٌۭ (is) play laʿibun
(is) play
وَلَهْوٌۭ ۚ and amusement walahwun
and amusement
وَإِن And if wa-in
And if
تُؤْمِنُوا۟ you believe tu'minū
you believe
وَتَتَّقُوا۟ and fear (Allah) watattaqū
and fear (Allah)
يُؤْتِكُمْ He will give you yu'tikum
He will give you
أُجُورَكُمْ your rewards ujūrakum
your rewards
وَلَا and not walā
and not
يَسْـَٔلْكُمْ will ask you yasalkum
will ask you
أَمْوَٰلَكُمْ (for) your wealth amwālakum
(for) your wealth
٣٦ (36)
(36)
[This] worldly life is only amusement and diversion. And if you believe and fear Allāh, He will give you your rewards and not ask you for your properties.
٤٧:٣٧
إِن If in
If
يَسْـَٔلْكُمُوهَا He were to ask you for it yasalkumūhā
He were to ask you for it
فَيُحْفِكُمْ and press you fayuḥ'fikum
and press you
تَبْخَلُوا۟ you will withhold tabkhalū
you will withhold
وَيُخْرِجْ and He will bring forth wayukh'rij
and He will bring forth
أَضْغَـٰنَكُمْ your hatred aḍghānakum
your hatred
٣٧ (37)
(37)
If He should ask you for them and press you, you would withhold, and He would expose your hatred [i.e., unwillingness].
٤٧:٣٨
هَـٰٓأَنتُمْ Here you are hāantum
Here you are
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ these hāulāi
these
تُدْعَوْنَ called tud'ʿawna
called
لِتُنفِقُوا۟ to spend litunfiqū
to spend
فِى in
in
سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
فَمِنكُم but among you faminkum
but among you
مَّن (are some) who man
(are some) who
يَبْخَلُ ۖ withhold yabkhalu
withhold
وَمَن and whoever waman
and whoever
يَبْخَلْ withholds yabkhal
withholds
فَإِنَّمَا then only fa-innamā
then only
يَبْخَلُ he withholds yabkhalu
he withholds
عَن from ʿan
from
نَّفْسِهِۦ ۚ himself nafsihi
himself
وَٱللَّهُ But Allah wal-lahu
But Allah
ٱلْغَنِىُّ (is) Free of need l-ghaniyu
(is) Free of need
وَأَنتُمُ while you wa-antumu
while you
ٱلْفُقَرَآءُ ۚ (are) the needy l-fuqarāu
(are) the needy
وَإِن And if wa-in
And if
تَتَوَلَّوْا۟ you turn away tatawallaw
you turn away
يَسْتَبْدِلْ He will replace you yastabdil
He will replace you
قَوْمًا (with) a people qawman
(with) a people
غَيْرَكُمْ other than you ghayrakum
other than you
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
لَا not
not
يَكُونُوٓا۟ they will be yakūnū
they will be
أَمْثَـٰلَكُم (the) likes of you amthālakum
(the) likes of you
٣٨ (38)
(38)
Here you are - those invited to spend in the cause of Allāh - but among you are those who withhold [out of greed]. And whoever withholds only withholds [benefit] from himself; and Allāh is the Free of need, while you are the needy. And if you turn away [i.e., refuse], He will replace you with another people; then they will not be the likes of you.
