بسملة

بِسْمِIn (the) nameٱللَّهِ(of) Allahٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِthe Most Graciousٱلرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

٣:١

الٓمٓAlif Laam Meem١

Alif, Lām, Meem.

٣:٢

ٱللَّهُAllah لَآ(there is) noإِلَـٰهَGodإِلَّاexceptهُوَHimٱلْحَىُّthe Ever-Livingٱلْقَيُّومُthe Sustainer of all that exists٢

Allāh - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining.

٣:٣

نَزَّلَHe revealedعَلَيْكَto youٱلْكِتَـٰبَthe Bookبِٱلْحَقِّin [the] truthمُصَدِّقًۭاconfirmingلِّمَاthat whichبَيْنَ(was)يَدَيْهِbefore itوَأَنزَلَand He revealedٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَthe Tauratوَٱلْإِنجِيلَand the Injeel٣

He has sent down upon you, [O Muḥammad], the Book in truth, confirming what was before it. And He revealed the Torah and the Gospel

٣:٤

مِنFromقَبْلُbefore (this)هُدًۭى(as) guidanceلِّلنَّاسِfor the mankindوَأَنزَلَAnd (He) revealedٱلْفُرْقَانَ ۗthe CriterionإِنَّVerilyٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieve[d]بِـَٔايَـٰتِin (the) Versesٱللَّهِ(of) Allahلَهُمْfor themعَذَابٌۭ(is) a punishmentشَدِيدٌۭ ۗsevereوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahعَزِيزٌۭ(is) All-MightyذُوAll-Ableٱنتِقَامٍ(of) retribution٤

Before, as guidance for the people. And He revealed the Criterion [i.e., the Qur’ān]. Indeed, those who disbelieve in the verses of Allāh will have a severe punishment, and Allāh is Exalted in Might, the Owner of Retribution.

٣:٥

إِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllah لَاnotيَخْفَىٰis hiddenعَلَيْهِfrom Himشَىْءٌۭanythingفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthوَلَاand notفِىinٱلسَّمَآءِthe heaven٥

Indeed, from Allāh nothing is hidden in the earth nor in the heaven.

٣:٦

هُوَHeٱلَّذِى(is) the One Whoيُصَوِّرُكُمْshapes youفِىinٱلْأَرْحَامِthe wombsكَيْفَhow(ever)يَشَآءُ ۚHe willsلَآ(There is) noإِلَـٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptهُوَHimٱلْعَزِيزُthe All-Mightyٱلْحَكِيمُthe All-Wise٦

It is He who forms you in the wombs however He wills. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

٣:٧

هُوَHeٱلَّذِىٓ(is) the One Whoأَنزَلَrevealedعَلَيْكَto youٱلْكِتَـٰبَthe Bookمِنْهُof itءَايَـٰتٌۭ(are) Versesمُّحْكَمَـٰتٌabsolutely clear هُنَّthey (are)أُمُّthe foundationٱلْكِتَـٰبِ(of) the Bookوَأُخَرُand othersمُتَشَـٰبِهَـٰتٌۭ ۖ(are) allegoricalفَأَمَّاThen as forٱلَّذِينَthoseفِىinقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsزَيْغٌۭ(is) perversity فَيَتَّبِعُونَ[so] they followمَاwhatتَشَـٰبَهَ(is) allegoricalمِنْهُof itٱبْتِغَآءَseekingٱلْفِتْنَةِ[the] discordوَٱبْتِغَآءَand seekingتَأْوِيلِهِۦ ۗits interpretationوَمَاAnd notيَعْلَمُknowsتَأْوِيلَهُۥٓits interpretationإِلَّاexceptٱللَّهُ ۗAllahوَٱلرَّٰسِخُونَAnd those firmفِىinٱلْعِلْمِ[the] knowledgeيَقُولُونَthey sayءَامَنَّاWe believeبِهِۦin itكُلٌّۭAllمِّنْ(is)عِندِfromرَبِّنَا ۗour LordوَمَاAnd notيَذَّكَّرُwill take heedإِلَّآexceptأُو۟لُوا۟menٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ(of) understanding٧

It is He who has sent down to you, [O Muḥammad], the Book; in it are verses [that are] precise - they are the foundation of the Book - and others unspecific. As for those in whose hearts is deviation [from truth], they will follow that of it which is unspecific, seeking discord and seeking an interpretation [suitable to them]. And no one knows its [true] interpretation except Allāh. But those firm in knowledge say, "We believe in it. All [of it] is from our Lord." And no one will be reminded except those of understanding.

٣:٨

رَبَّنَاOur Lordلَا(Do) notتُزِغْdeviateقُلُوبَنَاour heartsبَعْدَafterإِذْ[when]هَدَيْتَنَاYou (have) guided usوَهَبْand grantلَنَا(for) usمِنfromلَّدُنكَYourselfرَحْمَةً ۚmercyإِنَّكَIndeed YouأَنتَYouٱلْوَهَّابُ(are) the Bestower٨

[Who say], "Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.

٣:٩

رَبَّنَآOur LordإِنَّكَIndeed, Youجَامِعُwill gatherٱلنَّاسِ[the] mankindلِيَوْمٍۢon a Dayلَّا(there is) noرَيْبَdoubtفِيهِ ۚin itإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahلَا(does) notيُخْلِفُbreakٱلْمِيعَادَthe Promise٩

Our Lord, surely You will gather the people for a Day about which there is no doubt. Indeed, Allāh does not fail in His promise."

٣:١٠

إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieve[d]لَنneverتُغْنِىَwill availعَنْهُمْ[for] themأَمْوَٰلُهُمْtheir wealthوَلَآand notأَوْلَـٰدُهُمtheir childrenمِّنَagainstٱللَّهِAllahشَيْـًۭٔا ۖanythingوَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَand those هُمْthey (are)وَقُودُ(the) fuelٱلنَّارِ(for) the Fire١٠

Indeed, those who disbelieve - never will their wealth or their children avail them against Allāh at all. And it is they who are fuel for the Fire.

٣:١١

كَدَأْبِLike behaviorءَالِ(of the) peopleفِرْعَوْنَ(of) Firaunوَٱلَّذِينَand those whoمِن(were) fromقَبْلِهِمْ ۚbefore themكَذَّبُوا۟They deniedبِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاOur Signsفَأَخَذَهُمُso seized themٱللَّهُAllahبِذُنُوبِهِمْ ۗfor their sinsوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahشَدِيدُ(is) severeٱلْعِقَابِ(in) [the] punishment١١

[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and those before them. They denied Our signs, so Allāh seized them for their sins. And Allāh is severe in penalty.

٣:١٢

قُلSayلِّلَّذِينَto those whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieve[d]سَتُغْلَبُونَYou will be overcomeوَتُحْشَرُونَand you will be gatheredإِلَىٰtoجَهَنَّمَ ۚHellوَبِئْسَ[and] an evilٱلْمِهَادُ[the] resting place١٢

Say to those who disbelieve, "You will be overcome and gathered together to Hell, and wretched is the resting place."

٣:١٣

قَدْSurelyكَانَit wasلَكُمْfor youءَايَةٌۭa signفِىinفِئَتَيْنِ(the) two hostsٱلْتَقَتَا ۖwhich met فِئَةٌۭone groupتُقَـٰتِلُfightingفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَأُخْرَىٰand anotherكَافِرَةٌۭdisbelieversيَرَوْنَهُمThey were seeing themمِّثْلَيْهِمْtwice of themرَأْىَwith the sightٱلْعَيْنِ ۚ(of) their eyesوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahيُؤَيِّدُsupportsبِنَصْرِهِۦwith His helpمَنwhomيَشَآءُ ۗHe willsإِنَّIndeedفِىinذَٰلِكَthatلَعِبْرَةًۭsurely (is) a lessonلِّأُو۟لِىfor the ownersٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ(of) vision١٣

Already there has been for you a sign in the two armies which met [in combat at Badr] - one fighting in the cause of Allāh and another of disbelievers. They saw them [to be] twice their [own] number by [their] eyesight. But Allāh supports with His victory whom He wills. Indeed in that is a lesson for those of vision.

٣:١٤

زُيِّنَBeautifiedلِلنَّاسِfor mankindحُبُّ(is) loveٱلشَّهَوَٰتِ(of) the (things they) desire مِنَofٱلنِّسَآءِ[the] womenوَٱلْبَنِينَand [the] sonsوَٱلْقَنَـٰطِيرِand [the] heapsٱلْمُقَنطَرَةِ[the] stored upمِنَofٱلذَّهَبِ[the] goldوَٱلْفِضَّةِand [the] silverوَٱلْخَيْلِand [the] horsesٱلْمُسَوَّمَةِ[the] brandedوَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِand [the] cattleوَٱلْحَرْثِ ۗand [the] tilled landذَٰلِكَThatمَتَـٰعُ(is) provisionٱلْحَيَوٰةِ(of) lifeٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ(of) the worldوَٱللَّهُbut Allah عِندَهُۥwith Himحُسْنُ(is an) excellentٱلْمَـَٔابِ[the] abode to return١٤

Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire - of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the enjoyment of worldly life, but Allāh has with Him the best return [i.e., Paradise].

٣:١٥

۞ قُلْSayأَؤُنَبِّئُكُمShall I inform youبِخَيْرٍۢof betterمِّنthanذَٰلِكُمْ ۚthatلِلَّذِينَFor those whoٱتَّقَوْا۟fear[ed]عِندَwithرَبِّهِمْtheir Lordجَنَّـٰتٌۭ(are) Gardensتَجْرِىflowsمِنfromتَحْتِهَاunderneath themٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ[the] rivers خَـٰلِدِينَabiding foreverفِيهَاin itوَأَزْوَٰجٌۭand spousesمُّطَهَّرَةٌۭpureوَرِضْوَٰنٌۭand approvalمِّنَfromٱللَّهِ ۗAllahوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahبَصِيرٌۢ(is) All-Seerبِٱلْعِبَادِof (His) slaves١٥

Say, "Shall I inform you of [something] better than that? For those who fear Allāh will be gardens in the presence of their Lord beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally, and purified spouses and approval from Allāh. And Allāh is Seeing [i.e., aware] of [His] servants -

٣:١٦

ٱلَّذِينَThose whoيَقُولُونَsayرَبَّنَآOur LordإِنَّنَآIndeed, weءَامَنَّا(have) believedفَٱغْفِرْso forgiveلَنَاfor usذُنُوبَنَاour sinsوَقِنَاand save usعَذَابَ(from) punishmentٱلنَّارِ(of) the Fire١٦

Those who say, "Our Lord, indeed we have believed, so forgive us our sins and protect us from the punishment of the Fire,"

٣:١٧

ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَThe patientوَٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَand the truthfulوَٱلْقَـٰنِتِينَand the obedientوَٱلْمُنفِقِينَand those who spendوَٱلْمُسْتَغْفِرِينَand those who seek forgivenessبِٱلْأَسْحَارِ[in the] before dawn١٧

The patient, the true, the obedient, those who spend [in the way of Allāh], and those who seek forgiveness before dawn.

٣:١٨

شَهِدَBears witnessٱللَّهُAllahأَنَّهُۥthat [He]لَآ(there is) noإِلَـٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptهُوَHimوَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُand (so do) the Angelsوَأُو۟لُوا۟and ownersٱلْعِلْمِ(of) [the] knowledge قَآئِمًۢاstandingبِٱلْقِسْطِ ۚin justiceلَآ(There is) noإِلَـٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptهُوَHimٱلْعَزِيزُthe All-Mightyٱلْحَكِيمُthe All-Wise١٨

Allāh witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge - [that He is] maintaining [creation] in justice. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

٣:١٩

إِنَّIndeedٱلدِّينَthe religionعِندَnearٱللَّهِAllahٱلْإِسْلَـٰمُ ۗ(is) IslamوَمَاAnd notٱخْتَلَفَdifferedٱلَّذِينَthose whoأُوتُوا۟were givenٱلْكِتَـٰبَthe Bookإِلَّاexceptمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterمَا[what]جَآءَهُمُcame to themٱلْعِلْمُ[the] knowledgeبَغْيًۢاout of envyبَيْنَهُمْ ۗamong themوَمَنAnd whoeverيَكْفُرْdisbelievesبِـَٔايَـٰتِin (the) Versesٱللَّهِ(of) Allahفَإِنَّthen indeedٱللَّهَAllahسَرِيعُ(is) swiftٱلْحِسَابِ(in taking) account١٩

Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allāh is Islām. And those who were given the Scripture did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And whoever disbelieves in the verses of Allāh, then indeed, Allāh is swift in [taking] account.

٣:٢٠

فَإِنْThen ifحَآجُّوكَthey argue with youفَقُلْthen sayأَسْلَمْتُI have submittedوَجْهِىَmyselfلِلَّهِto Allahوَمَنِand (those) whoٱتَّبَعَنِ ۗfollow meوَقُلAnd sayلِّلَّذِينَto those whoأُوتُوا۟were givenٱلْكِتَـٰبَthe Bookوَٱلْأُمِّيِّـۧنَand the unlettered peopleءَأَسْلَمْتُمْ ۚHave you submitted yourselvesفَإِنْThen ifأَسْلَمُوا۟they submitفَقَدِthen surelyٱهْتَدَوا۟ ۖthey are guidedوَّإِنBut ifتَوَلَّوْا۟they turn backفَإِنَّمَاthen onlyعَلَيْكَon youٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ۗ(is) to [the] conveyوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahبَصِيرٌۢ(is) All-Seerبِٱلْعِبَادِof [His] slaves٢٠

So if they argue with you, say, "I have submitted myself to Allāh [in Islām], and [so have] those who follow me." And say to those who were given the Scripture and [to] the unlearned, "Have you submitted yourselves?" And if they submit [in Islām], they are rightly guided; but if they turn away - then upon you is only the [duty of] notification. And Allāh is Seeing of [His] servants.

٣:٢١

إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoيَكْفُرُونَdisbelieveبِـَٔايَـٰتِin (the) Signs (of)ٱللَّهِAllahوَيَقْتُلُونَand they killٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَthe Prophetsبِغَيْرِwithoutحَقٍّۢrightوَيَقْتُلُونَand they killٱلَّذِينَthose whoيَأْمُرُونَorderبِٱلْقِسْطِ[with] justiceمِنَamongٱلنَّاسِthe peopleفَبَشِّرْهُمthen give them tidingsبِعَذَابٍof a punishmentأَلِيمٍpainful٢١

Those who disbelieve in the signs of Allāh and kill the prophets without right and kill those who order justice from among the people - give them tidings of a painful punishment.

٣:٢٢

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَThoseٱلَّذِينَ(are) the ones who حَبِطَتْbecame worthlessأَعْمَـٰلُهُمْtheir deedsفِىinٱلدُّنْيَاthe worldوَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِand (in) the HereafterوَمَاAnd notلَهُم(will be) for themمِّنanyنَّـٰصِرِينَhelpers٢٢

They are the ones whose deeds have become worthless in this world and the Hereafter, and for them there will be no helpers.

٣:٢٣

أَلَمْHave notتَرَyou seenإِلَى[to]ٱلَّذِينَthose whoأُوتُوا۟were givenنَصِيبًۭاa portionمِّنَofٱلْكِتَـٰبِthe ScriptureيُدْعَوْنَThey are invitedإِلَىٰtoكِتَـٰبِ(the) Bookٱللَّهِ(of) Allahلِيَحْكُمَthat (it should) arbitrateبَيْنَهُمْbetween themثُمَّthenيَتَوَلَّىٰturns awayفَرِيقٌۭa partyمِّنْهُمْof themوَهُمand they (are)مُّعْرِضُونَthose who are averse٢٣

Do you not consider, [O Muḥammad], those who were given a portion of the Scripture? They are invited to the Scripture of Allāh that it should arbitrate between them; then a party of them turns away, and they are refusing.

٣:٢٤

ذَٰلِكَThatبِأَنَّهُمْ(is) because theyقَالُوا۟sayلَنNeverتَمَسَّنَاwill touch usٱلنَّارُthe Fireإِلَّآexceptأَيَّامًۭا(for) daysمَّعْدُودَٰتٍۢ ۖnumberedوَغَرَّهُمْAnd deceived themفِىinدِينِهِمtheir religionمَّاwhatكَانُوا۟they wereيَفْتَرُونَinventing٢٤

That is because they say, "Never will the Fire touch us except for [a few] numbered days," and [because] they were deluded in their religion by what they were inventing.

٣:٢٥

فَكَيْفَThen how (will it be)إِذَاwhenجَمَعْنَـٰهُمْWe will gather themلِيَوْمٍۢon a Day لَّاnoرَيْبَdoubtفِيهِin itوَوُفِّيَتْAnd will be paid in fullكُلُّeveryنَفْسٍۢsoulمَّاwhatكَسَبَتْit earnedوَهُمْand theyلَا(will) notيُظْلَمُونَbe wronged٢٥

So how will it be when We assemble them for a Day about which there is no doubt? And each soul will be compensated [in full for] what it earned, and they will not be wronged.

٣:٢٦

قُلِSayٱللَّهُمَّO AllahمَـٰلِكَOwnerٱلْمُلْكِ(of) the DominionتُؤْتِىYou giveٱلْمُلْكَthe dominionمَن(to) whomتَشَآءُYou willوَتَنزِعُand You take awayٱلْمُلْكَthe dominionمِمَّنfrom whomتَشَآءُYou willوَتُعِزُّand You honorمَنwhomتَشَآءُYou willوَتُذِلُّand You humiliateمَنwhomتَشَآءُ ۖYou willبِيَدِكَIn Your handٱلْخَيْرُ ۖ(is all) the goodإِنَّكَIndeed, Youعَلَىٰ(are) onكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍۢthingقَدِيرٌۭAll-Powerful٢٦

Say, "O Allāh, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent.

٣:٢٧

تُولِجُYou cause to enterٱلَّيْلَthe nightفِىinٱلنَّهَارِthe dayوَتُولِجُand You cause to enterٱلنَّهَارَthe dayفِىinٱلَّيْلِ ۖthe nightوَتُخْرِجُand You bring forthٱلْحَىَّthe livingمِنَfromٱلْمَيِّتِthe deadوَتُخْرِجُand You bring forthٱلْمَيِّتَthe deadمِنَfromٱلْحَىِّ ۖthe livingوَتَرْزُقُand You give provisionمَن(to) whomتَشَآءُYou willبِغَيْرِwithoutحِسَابٍۢmeasure٢٧

You cause the night to enter the day, and You cause the day to enter the night; and You bring the living out of the dead, and You bring the dead out of the living. And You give provision to whom You will without account [i.e., limit or measure]."

٣:٢٨

لَّا(Let) notيَتَّخِذِtakeٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَthe believersٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَthe disbelieversأَوْلِيَآءَ(as) alliesمِنfromدُونِinstead ofٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۖthe believersوَمَنAnd whoeverيَفْعَلْdoesذَٰلِكَthatفَلَيْسَthen not he (has)مِنَfromٱللَّهِAllahفِىinشَىْءٍanythingإِلَّآexceptأَنthatتَتَّقُوا۟you fearمِنْهُمْfrom themتُقَىٰةًۭ ۗ(as) a precautionوَيُحَذِّرُكُمُAnd warns youٱللَّهُAllahنَفْسَهُۥ ۗ(of) Himselfوَإِلَىand toٱللَّهِAllahٱلْمَصِيرُ(is) the final return٢٨

Let not believers take disbelievers as allies [i.e., supporters or protectors] rather than believers. And whoever [of you] does that has nothing [i.e., no association] with Allāh, except when taking precaution against them in prudence. And Allāh warns you of Himself, and to Allāh is the [final] destination.

٣:٢٩

قُلْSayإِنWhetherتُخْفُوا۟you concealمَاwhatفِى(is) inصُدُورِكُمْyour breastsأَوْorتُبْدُوهُyou disclose it يَعْلَمْهُknows itٱللَّهُ ۗAllahوَيَعْلَمُAnd He knowsمَاwhatفِى(is) inٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِthe heavensوَمَاand whatفِى(is) inٱلْأَرْضِ ۗthe earthوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahعَلَىٰ(is) onكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍۢthingقَدِيرٌۭAll-Powerful٢٩

Say, "Whether you conceal what is in your breasts or reveal it, Allāh knows it. And He knows that which is in the heavens and that which is on the earth. And Allāh is over all things competent.

٣:٣٠

يَوْمَ(On the) dayتَجِدُwill findكُلُّeveryنَفْسٍۢsoulمَّاwhatعَمِلَتْit didمِنْofخَيْرٍۢgood مُّحْضَرًۭاpresentedوَمَاand whatعَمِلَتْit didمِنofسُوٓءٍۢevilتَوَدُّit will wishلَوْ[if]أَنَّthatبَيْنَهَاbetween itselfوَبَيْنَهُۥٓand between it (evil)أَمَدًۢا(was) a distanceبَعِيدًۭا ۗgreatوَيُحَذِّرُكُمُAnd warns youٱللَّهُAllahنَفْسَهُۥ ۗ(against) Himselfوَٱللَّهُand Allahرَءُوفٌۢ(is) Most Kindبِٱلْعِبَادِto (His) [the] slaves٣٠

The Day every soul will find what it has done of good present [before it] and what it has done of evil, it will wish that between itself and that [evil] was a great distance. And Allāh warns you of Himself, and Allāh is Kind to [His] servants."

٣:٣١

قُلْSayإِنIfكُنتُمْyouتُحِبُّونَloveٱللَّهَAllahفَٱتَّبِعُونِىthen follow meيُحْبِبْكُمُwill love youٱللَّهُAllahوَيَغْفِرْand He will forgiveلَكُمْfor youذُنُوبَكُمْ ۗyour sinsوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahغَفُورٌۭ(is) Oft-ForgivingرَّحِيمٌۭMost Merciful٣١

Say, [O Muḥammad], "If you should love Allāh, then follow me, [so] Allāh will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful."

٣:٣٢

قُلْSayأَطِيعُوا۟ObeyٱللَّهَAllahوَٱلرَّسُولَ ۖand the MessengerفَإِنThen ifتَوَلَّوْا۟they turn away فَإِنَّthen indeedٱللَّهَAllahلَا(does) notيُحِبُّloveٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَthe disbelievers٣٢

Say, "Obey Allāh and the Messenger. But if you turn away - then indeed, Allāh does not like the disbelievers."

٣:٣٣

۞ إِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahٱصْطَفَىٰٓchoseءَادَمَAdamوَنُوحًۭاand Nuhوَءَالَand (the) familyإِبْرَٰهِيمَ(of) Ibrahimوَءَالَand (the) familyعِمْرَٰنَ(of) Imranعَلَىoverٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَthe worlds٣٣

Indeed, Allāh chose Adam and Noah and the family of Abraham and the family of ʿImrān over the worlds -

٣:٣٤

ذُرِّيَّةًۢDescendentsبَعْضُهَاsome of themمِنۢfromبَعْضٍۢ ۗothersوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahسَمِيعٌ(is) All-HearingعَلِيمٌAll-Knowing٣٤

Descendants, some of them from others. And Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.

٣:٣٥

إِذْWhenقَالَتِ[she] saidٱمْرَأَتُ(the) wifeعِمْرَٰنَ(of) ImranرَبِّMy LordإِنِّىIndeed, Iنَذَرْتُ[I] vowedلَكَto Youمَاwhatفِى(is) inبَطْنِىmy wombمُحَرَّرًۭاdedicatedفَتَقَبَّلْso acceptمِنِّىٓ ۖfrom meإِنَّكَIndeed, YouأَنتَYouٱلسَّمِيعُ(are) the All-Hearingٱلْعَلِيمُthe All-Knowing٣٥

[Mention, O Muḥammad], when the wife of ʿImrān said, "My Lord, indeed I have pledged to You what is in my womb, consecrated [for Your service], so accept this from me. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing."

٣:٣٦

فَلَمَّاThen whenوَضَعَتْهَاshe delivered herقَالَتْshe saidرَبِّMy Lordإِنِّىindeed Iوَضَعْتُهَآ[I] (have) delivered [her]أُنثَىٰa femaleوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahأَعْلَمُknows betterبِمَا[of] whatوَضَعَتْshe deliveredوَلَيْسَand is notٱلذَّكَرُthe maleكَٱلْأُنثَىٰ ۖlike the femaleوَإِنِّىAnd that Iسَمَّيْتُهَا[I] (have) named herمَرْيَمَMaryamوَإِنِّىٓand that Iأُعِيذُهَا[I] seek refuge for herبِكَin Youوَذُرِّيَّتَهَاand her offspringمِنَfromٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِthe Shaitaanٱلرَّجِيمِthe rejected٣٦

But when she delivered her, she said, "My Lord, I have delivered a female." And Allāh was most knowing of what she delivered, and the male is not like the female. "And I have named her Mary, and I seek refuge for her in You and [for] her descendants from Satan, the expelled [from the mercy of Allāh]."

٣:٣٧

فَتَقَبَّلَهَاSo accepted herرَبُّهَاher Lordبِقَبُولٍwith acceptanceحَسَنٍۢgoodوَأَنۢبَتَهَاand reared her نَبَاتًاa rearingحَسَنًۭاgoodوَكَفَّلَهَاand put her in (the) careزَكَرِيَّا ۖ(of) ZakariyaكُلَّمَاWheneverدَخَلَenteredعَلَيْهَاupon herزَكَرِيَّاZakariyaٱلْمِحْرَابَ[the] prayer chamberوَجَدَhe foundعِندَهَاwith herرِزْقًۭا ۖprovisionقَالَHe saidيَـٰمَرْيَمُO MaryamأَنَّىٰFrom whereلَكِfor youهَـٰذَا ۖ(is) thisقَالَتْShe saidهُوَThisمِنْ(is)عِندِfromٱللَّهِ ۖAllahإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahيَرْزُقُgives provisionمَن(to) whomيَشَآءُHe willsبِغَيْرِwithoutحِسَابٍmeasure٣٧

So her Lord accepted her with good acceptance and caused her to grow in a good manner and put her in the care of Zechariah. Every time Zechariah entered upon her in the prayer chamber, he found with her provision. He said, "O Mary, from where is this [coming] to you?" She said, "It is from Allāh. Indeed, Allāh provides for whom He wills without account."

٣:٣٨

هُنَالِكَThere onlyدَعَاinvokedزَكَرِيَّاZakariyaرَبَّهُۥ ۖhis Lordقَالَhe saidرَبِّMy Lordهَبْgrantلِى[for] meمِنfromلَّدُنكَYourselfذُرِّيَّةًۭoffspringطَيِّبَةً ۖpureإِنَّكَIndeed, Youسَمِيعُ(are) All-Hearerٱلدُّعَآءِ(of) the prayer٣٨

At that, Zechariah called upon his Lord, saying, "My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication."

٣:٣٩

فَنَادَتْهُThen called himٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُthe Angelsوَهُوَwhen heقَآئِمٌۭ(was) standing يُصَلِّىprayingفِىinٱلْمِحْرَابِthe prayer chamberأَنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahيُبَشِّرُكَgives you glad tidingsبِيَحْيَىٰof Yahyaمُصَدِّقًۢاconfirmingبِكَلِمَةٍۢ[of] a WordمِّنَfromٱللَّهِAllahوَسَيِّدًۭاand a nobleوَحَصُورًۭاand chasteوَنَبِيًّۭاand a Prophetمِّنَamongٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَthe righteous٣٩

So the angels called him while he was standing in prayer in the chamber, "Indeed, Allāh gives you good tidings of John, confirming a word from Allāh and [who will be] honorable, abstaining [from women], and a prophet from among the righteous."

٣:٤٠

قَالَHe saidرَبِّMy Lordأَنَّىٰhowيَكُونُcan (there) beلِىfor meغُلَـٰمٌۭa sonوَقَدْand verilyبَلَغَنِىَhas reached meٱلْكِبَرُ[the] old ageوَٱمْرَأَتِىand my wifeعَاقِرٌۭ ۖ(is) [a] barrenقَالَHe saidكَذَٰلِكَThusٱللَّهُAllahيَفْعَلُdoesمَاwhatيَشَآءُHe wills٤٠

He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when I have reached old age and my wife is barren?" He [the angel] said, "Such is Allāh; He does what He wills."

٣:٤١

قَالَHe saidرَبِّMy Lordٱجْعَلmakeلِّىٓfor meءَايَةًۭ ۖa signقَالَHe saidءَايَتُكَyour signأَلَّا(is) that notتُكَلِّمَyou will speakٱلنَّاسَ(to) the peopleثَلَـٰثَةَ(for) threeأَيَّامٍdaysإِلَّاexceptرَمْزًۭا ۗ(with) gesturesوَٱذْكُرAnd rememberرَّبَّكَyour Lordكَثِيرًۭاmuchوَسَبِّحْand glorify (Him)بِٱلْعَشِىِّin the eveningوَٱلْإِبْكَـٰرِand (in) the morning٤١

He said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not [be able to] speak to the people for three days except by gesture. And remember your Lord much and exalt [Him with praise] in the evening and the morning."

٣:٤٢

وَإِذْAnd whenقَالَتِsaidٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُthe AngelsيَـٰمَرْيَمُO MaryamإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahٱصْطَفَىٰكِ(has) chosen youوَطَهَّرَكِand purified youوَٱصْطَفَىٰكِand chosen youعَلَىٰoverنِسَآءِ(the) womenٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ(of) the worlds٤٢

And [mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allāh has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the worlds.

٣:٤٣

يَـٰمَرْيَمُO MaryamٱقْنُتِىBe obedientلِرَبِّكِto your Lordوَٱسْجُدِىand prostrateوَٱرْكَعِىand bow downمَعَwithٱلرَّٰكِعِينَthose who bow down٤٣

O Mary, be devoutly obedient to your Lord and prostrate and bow with those who bow [in prayer]."

٣:٤٤

ذَٰلِكَThatمِنْ(is) fromأَنۢبَآءِ(the) newsٱلْغَيْبِ(of) the unseen نُوحِيهِWe reveal itإِلَيْكَ ۚto youوَمَاAnd notكُنتَyou wereلَدَيْهِمْwith themإِذْwhenيُلْقُونَthey castأَقْلَـٰمَهُمْtheir pensأَيُّهُمْ(as to) which of themيَكْفُلُtakes charge (of)مَرْيَمَMaryamوَمَاand notكُنتَyou wereلَدَيْهِمْwith themإِذْwhenيَخْتَصِمُونَthey (were) disputing٤٤

That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you, [O Muḥammad]. And you were not with them when they cast their pens as to which of them should be responsible for Mary. Nor were you with them when they disputed.

٣:٤٥

إِذْWhenقَالَتِsaidٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُthe AngelsيَـٰمَرْيَمُO MaryamإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahيُبَشِّرُكِgives you glad tidingsبِكَلِمَةٍۢof a wordمِّنْهُfrom Himٱسْمُهُhis nameٱلْمَسِيحُ(is) the MessiahعِيسَىIsaٱبْنُsonمَرْيَمَ(of) Maryamوَجِيهًۭاhonoredفِىinٱلدُّنْيَاthe worldوَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِand (in) the Hereafterوَمِنَand ofٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَthose brought near (to Allah)٤٥

[And mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allāh gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary - distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allāh].

٣:٤٦

وَيُكَلِّمُAnd he will speakٱلنَّاسَ(to) the peopleفِىinٱلْمَهْدِthe cradleوَكَهْلًۭاand (in) maturityوَمِنَand (he will be) ofٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَthe righteous٤٦

He will speak to the people in the cradle and in maturity and will be of the righteous."

٣:٤٧

قَالَتْShe saidرَبِّMy Lordأَنَّىٰhowيَكُونُis [it]لِىfor meوَلَدٌۭa boyوَلَمْand (has) notيَمْسَسْنِىtouch(ed) meبَشَرٌۭ ۖany manقَالَHe saidكَذَٰلِكِThusٱللَّهُAllahيَخْلُقُcreatesمَاwhatيَشَآءُ ۚHe willsإِذَاWhenقَضَىٰٓHe decreesأَمْرًۭاa matterفَإِنَّمَاthen onlyيَقُولُHe saysلَهُۥto itكُنBeفَيَكُونُand it becomes٤٧

She said, "My Lord, how will I have a child when no man has touched me?" [The angel] said, "Such is Allāh; He creates what He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is.

٣:٤٨

وَيُعَلِّمُهُAnd He will teach himٱلْكِتَـٰبَthe Bookوَٱلْحِكْمَةَand [the] wisdomوَٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَand the Tauratوَٱلْإِنجِيلَand the Injeel٤٨

And He will teach him writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel

٣:٤٩

وَرَسُولًاAnd (make him) a Messengerإِلَىٰtoبَنِىٓ(the) Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(of) IsraelأَنِّىIndeed, Iقَدْ[surely]جِئْتُكُم[I] (have) come (to) youبِـَٔايَةٍۢwith a signمِّنfromرَّبِّكُمْ ۖyour Lordأَنِّىٓthat Iأَخْلُقُ[I] designلَكُمfor youمِّنَfromٱلطِّينِ[the] clayكَهَيْـَٔةِlike the formٱلطَّيْرِ(of) the birdفَأَنفُخُthen I breathفِيهِinto itفَيَكُونُand it becomesطَيْرًۢاa birdبِإِذْنِby (the) permissionٱللَّهِ ۖ(of) AllahوَأُبْرِئُAnd I cureٱلْأَكْمَهَthe blindوَٱلْأَبْرَصَand the leperوَأُحْىِand I give lifeٱلْمَوْتَىٰ(to) the deadبِإِذْنِby (the) permissionٱللَّهِ ۖ(of) AllahوَأُنَبِّئُكُمAnd I inform youبِمَاof whatتَأْكُلُونَyou eatوَمَاand whatتَدَّخِرُونَyou storeفِىinبُيُوتِكُمْ ۚyour housesإِنَّIndeedفِىinذَٰلِكَthatلَـَٔايَةًۭ(is) surely a signلَّكُمْfor youإِنifكُنتُمyou areمُّؤْمِنِينَbelievers٤٩

And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], 'Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allāh. And I cure the blind [from birth] and the leper, and I give life to the dead - by permission of Allāh. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers.

٣:٥٠

وَمُصَدِّقًۭاAnd confirmingلِّمَاthat whichبَيْنَ(was)يَدَىَّbefore meمِنَofٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِthe Tauratوَلِأُحِلَّand so that I make lawfulلَكُمfor youبَعْضَsomeٱلَّذِى(of) that whichحُرِّمَwas forbiddenعَلَيْكُمْ ۚto youوَجِئْتُكُمAnd I (have) come to youبِـَٔايَةٍۢwith a signمِّنfromرَّبِّكُمْyour Lordفَٱتَّقُوا۟So fearٱللَّهَAllahوَأَطِيعُونِand obey me٥٠

And [I have come] confirming what was before me of the Torah and to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you. And I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so fear Allāh and obey me.

٣:٥١

إِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahرَبِّى(is) my Lordوَرَبُّكُمْand your Lordفَٱعْبُدُوهُ ۗso worship HimهَـٰذَاThisصِرَٰطٌۭ(is) the pathمُّسْتَقِيمٌۭstraight٥١

Indeed, Allāh is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is the straight path.'"

٣:٥٢

۞ فَلَمَّآThen whenأَحَسَّperceivedعِيسَىٰIsaمِنْهُمُfrom themٱلْكُفْرَ[the] disbeliefقَالَhe saidمَنْWhoأَنصَارِىٓ(will be) my helpersإِلَىtoٱللَّهِ ۖAllahقَالَSaidٱلْحَوَارِيُّونَthe disciplesنَحْنُWeأَنصَارُ(will be the) helpersٱللَّهِ(of) Allahءَامَنَّاwe believe[d]بِٱللَّهِin Allahوَٱشْهَدْand bear witnessبِأَنَّاthat weمُسْلِمُونَ(are) Muslims٥٢

But when Jesus felt [persistence in] disbelief from them, he said, "Who are my supporters for [the cause of] Allāh?" The disciples said, "We are supporters for Allāh. We have believed in Allāh and testify that we are Muslims [submitting to Him].

٣:٥٣

رَبَّنَآOur Lordءَامَنَّاwe believe[d]بِمَآin whatأَنزَلْتَYou revealedوَٱتَّبَعْنَاand we follow[ed]ٱلرَّسُولَthe Messengerفَٱكْتُبْنَاthen write usمَعَamongٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَthe witnesses٥٣

Our Lord, we have believed in what You revealed and have followed the messenger [i.e., Jesus], so register us among the witnesses [to truth]."

٣:٥٤

وَمَكَرُوا۟And they schemedوَمَكَرَand plannedٱللَّهُ ۖAllahوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahخَيْرُ(is the) bestٱلْمَـٰكِرِينَ(of) the planners٥٤

And they [i.e., the disbelievers] planned, but Allāh planned. And Allāh is the best of planners.

٣:٥٥

إِذْWhenقَالَsaidٱللَّهُAllahيَـٰعِيسَىٰٓO IsaإِنِّىIndeed, Iمُتَوَفِّيكَ(will) take youوَرَافِعُكَand raise youإِلَىَّto Myselfوَمُطَهِّرُكَand purify youمِنَfromٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieve[d]وَجَاعِلُand I will makeٱلَّذِينَthose whoٱتَّبَعُوكَfollow[ed] youفَوْقَsuperiorٱلَّذِينَ(to) those whoكَفَرُوٓا۟disbelieve[d]إِلَىٰonيَوْمِ(the) Dayٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۖ(of) [the] ResurrectionثُمَّThenإِلَىَّto Meمَرْجِعُكُمْ(is) your returnفَأَحْكُمُand I will judgeبَيْنَكُمْbetween youفِيمَاabout whatكُنتُمْyou wereفِيهِ[in it]تَخْتَلِفُونَdiffering٥٥

[Mention] when Allāh said, "O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify [i.e., free] you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you [in submission to Allāh alone] superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ.

٣:٥٦

فَأَمَّاThen as forٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieve[d]فَأُعَذِّبُهُمْthen I will punish themعَذَابًۭا(with) a punishmentشَدِيدًۭاsevereفِىinٱلدُّنْيَاthe worldوَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِand (in) the HereafterوَمَاAnd notلَهُمfor themمِّنanyنَّـٰصِرِينَhelpers٥٦

And as for those who disbelieved, I will punish them with a severe punishment in this world and the Hereafter, and they will have no helpers."

٣:٥٧

وَأَمَّاAnd as forٱلَّذِينَthose whoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]وَعَمِلُوا۟and didٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ[the] righteous deedsفَيُوَفِّيهِمْthen He will grant them in fullأُجُورَهُمْ ۗtheir rewardوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahلَا(does) notيُحِبُّloveٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَthe wrongdoers٥٧

But as for those who believed and did righteous deeds, He will give them in full their rewards, and Allāh does not like the wrongdoers.

٣:٥٨

ذَٰلِكَThatنَتْلُوهُ(is what) We recite [it]عَلَيْكَto youمِنَofٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِthe Versesوَٱلذِّكْرِand the Reminder ٱلْحَكِيمِ[the] Wise٥٨

This is what We recite to you, [O Muḥammad], of [Our] verses and the precise [and wise] message [i.e., the Qur’ān].

٣:٥٩

إِنَّIndeedمَثَلَ(the) likenessعِيسَىٰ(of) IsaعِندَnearٱللَّهِAllahكَمَثَلِ(is) like (the) likenessءَادَمَ ۖ(of) AdamخَلَقَهُۥHe created himمِنfromتُرَابٍۢdustثُمَّthenقَالَHe saidلَهُۥto himكُنBeفَيَكُونُand he was٥٩

Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allāh is like that of Adam. He created him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was.

٣:٦٠

ٱلْحَقُّThe truthمِن(is) fromرَّبِّكَyour Lordفَلَاso (do) notتَكُنbeمِّنَamongٱلْمُمْتَرِينَthe doubters٦٠

The truth is from your Lord, so do not be among the doubters.

٣:٦١

فَمَنْThen whoeverحَآجَّكَargues (with) youفِيهِconcerning itمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterمَاwhatجَآءَكَcame to youمِنَofٱلْعِلْمِthe knowledgeفَقُلْthen sayتَعَالَوْا۟Comeنَدْعُlet us callأَبْنَآءَنَاour sonsوَأَبْنَآءَكُمْand your sonsوَنِسَآءَنَاand our womenوَنِسَآءَكُمْand your womenوَأَنفُسَنَاand ourselvesوَأَنفُسَكُمْand yourselvesثُمَّthenنَبْتَهِلْlet us pray humblyفَنَجْعَلand [we] invokeلَّعْنَتَthe curseٱللَّهِ(of) Allahعَلَىonٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَthe liars٦١

Then whoever argues with you about it after [this] knowledge has come to you - say, "Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves, then supplicate earnestly [together] and invoke the curse of Allāh upon the liars [among us]."

٣:٦٢

إِنَّIndeedهَـٰذَاthisلَهُوَsurely it (is)ٱلْقَصَصُthe narration ٱلْحَقُّ ۚ[the] trueوَمَاAnd (there is) noمِنْ(of)إِلَـٰهٍgodإِلَّاexceptٱللَّهُ ۚAllahوَإِنَّAnd indeedٱللَّهَAllahلَهُوَsurely Heٱلْعَزِيزُ(is) the All-Mightyٱلْحَكِيمُthe All-Wise٦٢

Indeed, this is the true narration. And there is no deity except Allāh. And indeed, Allāh is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

٣:٦٣

فَإِنAnd ifتَوَلَّوْا۟they turn backفَإِنَّthen indeedٱللَّهَAllahعَلِيمٌۢ(is) All-Knowingبِٱلْمُفْسِدِينَof the corrupters٦٣

But if they turn away, then indeed - Allāh is Knowing of the corrupters.

٣:٦٤

قُلْSayيَـٰٓأَهْلَO Peopleٱلْكِتَـٰبِ(of) the Bookتَعَالَوْا۟Comeإِلَىٰtoكَلِمَةٍۢa wordسَوَآءٍۭequitableبَيْنَنَاbetween usوَبَيْنَكُمْand between you أَلَّاthat notنَعْبُدَwe worshipإِلَّاexceptٱللَّهَAllahوَلَاand notنُشْرِكَwe associate partnersبِهِۦwith Him شَيْـًۭٔاanythingوَلَاand notيَتَّخِذَtakeبَعْضُنَاsome of usبَعْضًا(to) othersأَرْبَابًۭا(as) lordsمِّنfromدُونِbesidesٱللَّهِ ۚAllahفَإِنThen ifتَوَلَّوْا۟they turn awayفَقُولُوا۟then sayٱشْهَدُوا۟Bear witnessبِأَنَّاthat weمُسْلِمُونَ(are) Muslims٦٤

Say, "O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you - that we will not worship except Allāh and not associate anything with Him and not take one another as lords instead of Allāh."1 But if they turn away, then say, "Bear witness that we are Muslims [submitting to Him]."

٣:٦٥

يَـٰٓأَهْلَO Peopleٱلْكِتَـٰبِ(of) the BookلِمَWhyتُحَآجُّونَ(do) you argueفِىٓconcerningإِبْرَٰهِيمَIbrahimوَمَآwhile notأُنزِلَتِwas revealedٱلتَّوْرَىٰةُthe Tauratوَٱلْإِنجِيلُand the Injeelإِلَّاexceptمِنۢfromبَعْدِهِۦٓ ۚafter himأَفَلَاThen why don'tتَعْقِلُونَyou use your intellect٦٥

O People of the Scripture, why do you argue about Abraham while the Torah and the Gospel were not revealed until after him? Then will you not reason?

٣:٦٦

هَـٰٓأَنتُمْHere you are هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِthose whoحَـٰجَجْتُمْarguedفِيمَاabout whatلَكُم[for] youبِهِۦof itعِلْمٌۭ(have some) knowledgeفَلِمَThen whyتُحَآجُّونَ(do) you argueفِيمَاabout whatلَيْسَnotلَكُمfor youبِهِۦof itعِلْمٌۭ ۚ(any) knowledgeوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahيَعْلَمُknowsوَأَنتُمْwhile youلَا(do) notتَعْلَمُونَknow٦٦

Here you are - those who have argued about that of which you have [some] knowledge, but why do you argue about that of which you have no knowledge? And Allāh knows, while you know not.

٣:٦٧

مَاNotكَانَwasإِبْرَٰهِيمُIbrahimيَهُودِيًّۭاa Jewوَلَاand notنَصْرَانِيًّۭاa Christianوَلَـٰكِن[and] butكَانَhe wasحَنِيفًۭاa trueمُّسْلِمًۭاMuslimوَمَاand notكَانَhe wasمِنَfromٱلْمُشْرِكِينَthe polytheists٦٧

Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was one inclining toward truth, a Muslim [submitting to Allāh]. And he was not of the polytheists.

٣:٦٨

إِنَّIndeedأَوْلَىthe best to claim relationshipٱلنَّاسِ(of) peopleبِإِبْرَٰهِيمَwith Ibrahimلَلَّذِينَ(are) those whoٱتَّبَعُوهُfollow himوَهَـٰذَاand thisٱلنَّبِىُّ[the] Prophetوَٱلَّذِينَand those whoءَامَنُوا۟ ۗbelieve[d]وَٱللَّهُAnd Allahوَلِىُّ(is) a Guardianٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ(of) the believers٦٨

Indeed, the most worthy of Abraham among the people are those who followed him [in submission to Allāh] and this prophet [i.e., Muḥammad (ﷺ)] and those who believe [in his message]. And Allāh is the Ally of the believers.

٣:٦٩

وَدَّتWishedطَّآئِفَةٌۭa groupمِّنْfromأَهْلِ(the) Peopleٱلْكِتَـٰبِ(of) the Bookلَوْifيُضِلُّونَكُمْthey could lead you astrayوَمَاand notيُضِلُّونَthey lead astrayإِلَّآexceptأَنفُسَهُمْthemselvesوَمَاand notيَشْعُرُونَthey perceive٦٩

A faction of the People of the Scripture wish they could mislead you. But they do not mislead except themselves, and they perceive [it] not.

٣:٧٠

يَـٰٓأَهْلَO Peopleٱلْكِتَـٰبِ(of) the BookلِمَWhy doتَكْفُرُونَyou denyبِـَٔايَـٰتِ[in] the Signsٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَأَنتُمْwhile youتَشْهَدُونَbear witness٧٠

O People of the Scripture, why do you disbelieve in the verses of Allāh while you witness [to their truth]?

٣:٧١

يَـٰٓأَهْلَO Peopleٱلْكِتَـٰبِ(of) the BookلِمَWhyتَلْبِسُونَdo you mixٱلْحَقَّthe truthبِٱلْبَـٰطِلِwith the falsehoodوَتَكْتُمُونَand concealٱلْحَقَّthe truthوَأَنتُمْwhile youتَعْلَمُونَknow٧١

O People of the Scripture, why do you mix [i.e., confuse] the truth with falsehood and conceal the truth while you know [it]?

٣:٧٢

وَقَالَتAnd saidطَّآئِفَةٌۭa groupمِّنْofأَهْلِ(the) Peopleٱلْكِتَـٰبِ(of) the Bookءَامِنُوا۟Believeبِٱلَّذِىٓin whatأُنزِلَwas revealedعَلَىonٱلَّذِينَthose whoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]وَجْهَ(at the) beginningٱلنَّهَارِ(of) the dayوَٱكْفُرُوٓا۟and rejectءَاخِرَهُۥ(at) its endلَعَلَّهُمْperhaps they mayيَرْجِعُونَreturn٧٢

And a faction of the People of the Scripture say [to each other], "Believe in that which was revealed to the believers at the beginning of the day and reject it at its end that perhaps they will return [i.e., abandon their religion],

٣:٧٣

وَلَاAnd (do) notتُؤْمِنُوٓا۟believeإِلَّاexceptلِمَن(the one) whoتَبِعَfollowsدِينَكُمْyour religionقُلْSayإِنَّIndeedٱلْهُدَىٰthe (true) guidanceهُدَى(is the) Guidanceٱللَّهِ(of) Allah أَنlestيُؤْتَىٰٓis givenأَحَدٌۭ(to) one مِّثْلَ(the) likeمَآ(of) whatأُوتِيتُمْwas given to youأَوْorيُحَآجُّوكُمْthey may argue with youعِندَnearرَبِّكُمْ ۗyour LordقُلْSayإِنَّIndeedٱلْفَضْلَthe Bountyبِيَدِ(is) in the Handٱللَّهِ(of) AllahيُؤْتِيهِHe gives itمَن(to) whomيَشَآءُ ۗHe willsوَٱللَّهُand Allahوَٰسِعٌ(is) All-EncompassingعَلِيمٌۭAll-Knowing٧٣

And do not trust except those who follow your religion." Say, "Indeed, the [true] guidance is the guidance of Allāh. [Do you fear] lest someone be given [knowledge] like you were given or that they would [thereby] argue with you before your Lord?" Say, "Indeed, [all] bounty is in the hand of Allāh - He grants it to whom He wills. And Allāh is all-Encompassing and Wise."

٣:٧٤

يَخْتَصُّHe choosesبِرَحْمَتِهِۦfor His Mercyمَنwhomيَشَآءُ ۗHe willsوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahذُو(is) the Possessorٱلْفَضْلِ(of) Bounty ٱلْعَظِيمِ[the] great٧٤

He selects for His mercy whom He wills. And Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.

٣:٧٥

۞ وَمِنْAnd fromأَهْلِ(the) Peopleٱلْكِتَـٰبِ(of) the Bookمَنْ(is he) whoإِنifتَأْمَنْهُyou entrust himبِقِنطَارٍۢwith a great amount of wealthيُؤَدِّهِۦٓhe will return itإِلَيْكَto youوَمِنْهُمAnd from themمَّنْ(is he) whoإِنifتَأْمَنْهُyou entrust himبِدِينَارٍۢwith a single coinلَّاnotيُؤَدِّهِۦٓhe will return itإِلَيْكَto youإِلَّاexceptمَاthatدُمْتَyou keep constantlyعَلَيْهِover himقَآئِمًۭا ۗstandingذَٰلِكَThatبِأَنَّهُمْ(is) because theyقَالُوا۟saidلَيْسَNotعَلَيْنَاon usفِىconcerningٱلْأُمِّيِّـۧنَthe unlettered peopleسَبِيلٌۭany [way] (accountability)وَيَقُولُونَAnd they sayعَلَىaboutٱللَّهِAllahٱلْكَذِبَthe lieوَهُمْwhile theyيَعْلَمُونَknow٧٥

And among the People of the Scripture is he who, if you entrust him with a great amount [of wealth], he will return it to you. And among them is he who, if you entrust him with a [single] coin, he will not return it to you unless you are constantly standing over him [demanding it]. That is because they say, "There is no blame upon us concerning the unlearned."1 And they speak untruth about Allāh while they know [it].

٣:٧٦

بَلَىٰNayمَنْwhoeverأَوْفَىٰfulfillsبِعَهْدِهِۦhis covenantوَٱتَّقَىٰand fears (Allah)فَإِنَّthen indeedٱللَّهَAllahيُحِبُّlovesٱلْمُتَّقِينَthose who fear (Him)٧٦

But yes, whoever fulfills his commitment and fears Allāh - then indeed, Allāh loves those who fear Him.

٣:٧٧

إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoيَشْتَرُونَexchangeبِعَهْدِ(the) Covenantٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَأَيْمَـٰنِهِمْand their oathsثَمَنًۭا(for) a priceقَلِيلًاlittleأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَthose لَاnoخَلَـٰقَshareلَهُمْfor themفِىinٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِthe Hereafterوَلَاand notيُكَلِّمُهُمُwill speak to themٱللَّهُAllahوَلَاand notيَنظُرُlookإِلَيْهِمْat themيَوْمَ(on the) Dayٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ(of) the Resurrectionوَلَاand notيُزَكِّيهِمْpurify themوَلَهُمْand for themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentأَلِيمٌۭpainful٧٧

Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allāh and their [own] oaths for a small price will have no share in the Hereafter, and Allāh will not speak to them or look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them; and they will have a painful punishment.

٣:٧٨

وَإِنَّAnd indeedمِنْهُمْamong themلَفَرِيقًۭاsurely (is) a group يَلْوُۥنَthey distortأَلْسِنَتَهُمtheir tonguesبِٱلْكِتَـٰبِin (reciting) the Bookلِتَحْسَبُوهُso that you may think itمِنَ(is) fromٱلْكِتَـٰبِthe Bookوَمَاand notهُوَitمِنَ(is) fromٱلْكِتَـٰبِthe BookوَيَقُولُونَAnd they sayهُوَItمِنْ(is)عِندِfromٱللَّهِAllahوَمَاBut notهُوَitمِنْ(is)عِندِfromٱللَّهِAllahوَيَقُولُونَAnd they sayعَلَىaboutٱللَّهِAllahٱلْكَذِبَthe lieوَهُمْwhile theyيَعْلَمُونَknow٧٨

And indeed, there is among them a party who alter the Scripture with their tongues so you may think it is from the Scripture, but it is not from the Scripture. And they say, "This is from Allāh," but it is not from Allāh. And they speak untruth about Allāh while they know.

٣:٧٩

مَاNotكَانَisلِبَشَرٍfor a humanأَنthatيُؤْتِيَهُgives himٱللَّهُAllahٱلْكِتَـٰبَthe Bookوَٱلْحُكْمَand the wisdomوَٱلنُّبُوَّةَand the Prophethoodثُمَّthenيَقُولَhe saysلِلنَّاسِto the peopleكُونُوا۟Beعِبَادًۭاworshippersلِّىof meمِنfromدُونِbesidesٱللَّهِAllahوَلَـٰكِنbut (would say)كُونُوا۟Beرَبَّـٰنِيِّـۧنَworshippers of the Lordبِمَاbecauseكُنتُمْyou have beenتُعَلِّمُونَteachingٱلْكِتَـٰبَthe Bookوَبِمَاand becauseكُنتُمْyou have beenتَدْرُسُونَstudying (it)٧٩

It is not for a human [prophet]1 that Allāh should give him the Scripture and authority and prophethood and then he would say to the people, "Be servants to me rather than Allāh," but [instead, he would say], "Be pious scholars of the Lord because of what you have taught of the Scripture and because of what you have studied."

٣:٨٠

وَلَاAnd notيَأْمُرَكُمْhe will order youأَنthatتَتَّخِذُوا۟you takeٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَthe Angelsوَٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَand the Prophetsأَرْبَابًا ۗ(as) lordsأَيَأْمُرُكُمWould he order youبِٱلْكُفْرِto [the] disbeliefبَعْدَafterإِذْ[when]أَنتُمyou (have become)مُّسْلِمُونَMuslims٨٠

Nor could he order you to take the angels and prophets as lords. Would he order you to disbelief after you had been Muslims?

٣:٨١

وَإِذْAnd whenأَخَذَtookٱللَّهُAllahمِيثَـٰقَcovenantٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ(of) the ProphetsلَمَآCertainly, whateverءَاتَيْتُكُمI (have) given youمِّنofكِتَـٰبٍۢ(the) Bookوَحِكْمَةٍۢand wisdomثُمَّthenجَآءَكُمْcomes to youرَسُولٌۭa Messengerمُّصَدِّقٌۭconfirmingلِّمَاthat whichمَعَكُمْ(is) with youلَتُؤْمِنُنَّyou must believeبِهِۦin himوَلَتَنصُرُنَّهُۥ ۚand you must help himقَالَHe saidءَأَقْرَرْتُمْDo you affirmوَأَخَذْتُمْand takeعَلَىٰonذَٰلِكُمْthat (condition)إِصْرِى ۖMy Covenantقَالُوٓا۟They saidأَقْرَرْنَا ۚWe affirmقَالَHe saidفَٱشْهَدُوا۟Then bear witnessوَأَنَا۠and I (am)مَعَكُمwith youمِّنَamongٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَthe witnesses٨١

And [recall, O People of the Scripture], when Allāh took the covenant of the prophets, [saying], "Whatever I give you of the Scripture and wisdom and then there comes to you a messenger confirming what is with you, you [must] believe in him and support him." [Allāh] said, "Have you acknowledged and taken upon that My commitment?"1 They said, "We have acknowledged it." He said, "Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses."

٣:٨٢

فَمَنThen whoeverتَوَلَّىٰturns awayبَعْدَafterذَٰلِكَthatفَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَthen thoseهُمُtheyٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ(are) the defiantly disobedient٨٢

And whoever turned away after that - they were the defiantly disobedient.

٣:٨٣

أَفَغَيْرَSo is (it) other thanدِينِ(the) religionٱللَّهِ(of) Allahيَبْغُونَthey seekوَلَهُۥٓWhile to Himأَسْلَمَ(have) submittedمَنwhateverفِى(is) inٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِthe heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthطَوْعًۭاwillinglyوَكَرْهًۭاor unwillinglyوَإِلَيْهِand towards Himيُرْجَعُونَthey will be returned٨٣

So is it other than the religion of Allāh they desire, while to Him have submitted [all] those within the heavens and earth, willingly or by compulsion, and to Him they will be returned?

٣:٨٤

قُلْSayءَامَنَّاWe believedبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَمَآand whatأُنزِلَ(is) revealedعَلَيْنَاon usوَمَآand whatأُنزِلَwas revealedعَلَىٰٓonإِبْرَٰهِيمَIbrahimوَإِسْمَـٰعِيلَand Ishmaelوَإِسْحَـٰقَand Isaacوَيَعْقُوبَand Yaqubوَٱلْأَسْبَاطِand the descendentsوَمَآand whatأُوتِىَwas givenمُوسَىٰ(to) Musaوَعِيسَىٰand Isaوَٱلنَّبِيُّونَand the Prophetsمِنfromرَّبِّهِمْtheir LordلَاNotنُفَرِّقُwe make distinctionبَيْنَbetweenأَحَدٍۢanyمِّنْهُمْof themوَنَحْنُand weلَهُۥto Himمُسْلِمُونَ(are) submissive٨٤

Say, "We have believed in Allāh and in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants [al-Asbāṭ], and in what was given to Moses and Jesus and to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [submitting] to Him."

٣:٨٥

وَمَنAnd whoeverيَبْتَغِseeksغَيْرَother thanٱلْإِسْلَـٰمِ[the] Islamدِينًۭا(as) religionفَلَنthen neverيُقْبَلَwill be acceptedمِنْهُfrom himوَهُوَand heفِىinٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِthe Hereafterمِنَ(will be) fromٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَthe losers٨٥

And whoever desires other than Islām as religion - never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.

٣:٨٦

كَيْفَHowيَهْدِى(shall) guideٱللَّهُAllahقَوْمًۭاa peopleكَفَرُوا۟(who) disbelievedبَعْدَafterإِيمَـٰنِهِمْtheir beliefوَشَهِدُوٓا۟and (had) witnessedأَنَّthatٱلرَّسُولَthe Messengerحَقٌّۭ(is) trueوَجَآءَهُمُand came to themٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتُ ۚthe clear proofsوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahلَا(does) notيَهْدِىguideٱلْقَوْمَthe peopleٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ[the] wrongdoers٨٦

How shall Allāh guide a people who disbelieved after their belief and had witnessed that the Messenger is true and clear signs had come to them? And Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people.

٣:٨٧

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَThose جَزَآؤُهُمْtheir recompenseأَنَّthatعَلَيْهِمْon themلَعْنَةَ(is the) curseٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِand the Angelsوَٱلنَّاسِand the peopleأَجْمَعِينَall together٨٧

Those - their recompense will be that upon them is the curse of Allāh and the angels and the people, all together,

٣:٨٨

خَـٰلِدِينَ(They will) abide foreverفِيهَاin itلَاNotيُخَفَّفُwill be lightenedعَنْهُمُfor themٱلْعَذَابُthe punishmentوَلَاand notهُمْtheyيُنظَرُونَwill be reprieved٨٨

Abiding eternally therein. The punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved,

٣:٨٩

إِلَّاExceptٱلَّذِينَthose whoتَابُوا۟repentمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterذَٰلِكَthatوَأَصْلَحُوا۟and reform[ed] themselvesفَإِنَّThen indeedٱللَّهَAllahغَفُورٌۭ(is) Oft-ForgivingرَّحِيمٌMost Merciful٨٩

Except for those who repent after that and correct themselves. For indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.

٣:٩٠

إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelievedبَعْدَafterإِيمَـٰنِهِمْtheir beliefثُمَّthenٱزْدَادُوا۟they increasedكُفْرًۭا(in) disbeliefلَّنneverتُقْبَلَwill be acceptedتَوْبَتُهُمْtheir repentanceوَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَand those هُمُtheyٱلضَّآلُّونَ(are) those who have gone astray٩٠

Indeed, those who disbelieve [i.e., reject the message] after their belief and then increase in disbelief - never will their [claimed] repentance be accepted, and they are the ones astray.

٣:٩١

إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieve[d]وَمَاتُوا۟and diedوَهُمْwhile theyكُفَّارٌۭ(are) disbelieversفَلَنthen neverيُقْبَلَwill be acceptedمِنْfromأَحَدِهِمany one of themمِّلْءُfullٱلْأَرْضِearthذَهَبًۭا(of) goldوَلَوِ[and] (even) ifٱفْتَدَىٰhe offered as ransomبِهِۦٓ ۗitأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَThose لَهُمْfor themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentأَلِيمٌۭpainfulوَمَاand notلَهُم(will be) for themمِّنanyنَّـٰصِرِينَhelpers٩١

Indeed, those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers - never would the [whole] capacity of the earth in gold be accepted from one of them if he would [seek to] ransom himself with it. For those there will be a painful punishment, and they will have no helpers.

٣:٩٢

لَنNeverتَنَالُوا۟will you attainٱلْبِرَّ[the] righteousnessحَتَّىٰuntilتُنفِقُوا۟you spendمِمَّاfrom whatتُحِبُّونَ ۚyou loveوَمَاAnd whateverتُنفِقُوا۟you spendمِنofشَىْءٍۢa thingفَإِنَّthen indeedٱللَّهَAllahبِهِۦof itعَلِيمٌۭ(is) All-Knowing٩٢

Never will you attain the good [reward]1 until you spend [in the way of Allāh] from that which you love. And whatever you spend - indeed, Allāh is Knowing of it.

٣:٩٣

۞ كُلُّAllٱلطَّعَامِ[the] foodكَانَwasحِلًّۭاlawfulلِّبَنِىٓfor (the) Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(of) Israelإِلَّاexceptمَاwhatحَرَّمَmade unlawfulإِسْرَٰٓءِيلُIsraelعَلَىٰuponنَفْسِهِۦhimselfمِنfromقَبْلِbeforeأَن[that]تُنَزَّلَ(was) revealedٱلتَّوْرَىٰةُ ۗthe TauratقُلْSayفَأْتُوا۟So bringبِٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِthe Tauratفَٱتْلُوهَآand recite itإِنifكُنتُمْyou areصَـٰدِقِينَtruthful٩٣

All food was lawful to the Children of Israel except what Israel [i.e., Jacob] had made unlawful to himself before the Torah was revealed. Say, [O Muḥammad], "So bring the Torah and recite it, if you should be truthful."

٣:٩٤

فَمَنِThen whoeverٱفْتَرَىٰfabricatesعَلَىaboutٱللَّهِAllahٱلْكَذِبَ[the] lieمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterذَٰلِكَthatفَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَthen those هُمُtheyٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ(are) the wrongdoers٩٤

And whoever invents about Allāh untruth after that - then those are [truly] the wrongdoers.

٣:٩٥

قُلْSayصَدَقَ(has) spoken the truthٱللَّهُ ۗAllahفَٱتَّبِعُوا۟then followمِلَّةَ(the) religionإِبْرَٰهِيمَ(of) Ibrahimحَنِيفًۭا(the) uprightوَمَاand notكَانَhe wasمِنَofٱلْمُشْرِكِينَthe polytheists٩٥

Say, "Allāh has told the truth. So follow the religion of Abraham, inclining toward truth; and he was not of the polytheists."1

٣:٩٦

إِنَّIndeedأَوَّلَ(the) FirstبَيْتٍۢHouseوُضِعَset upلِلنَّاسِfor the mankindلَلَّذِى(is) the one whichبِبَكَّةَ(is) at Bakkahمُبَارَكًۭاblessedوَهُدًۭىand a guidanceلِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَfor the worlds٩٦

Indeed, the first House [of worship] established for mankind was that at Bakkah [i.e., Makkah] - blessed and a guidance for the worlds.

٣:٩٧

فِيهِIn itءَايَـٰتٌۢ(are) signsبَيِّنَـٰتٌۭclearمَّقَامُstanding placeإِبْرَٰهِيمَ ۖ(of) Ibrahimوَمَنand whoeverدَخَلَهُۥenters it كَانَisءَامِنًۭا ۗsafeوَلِلَّهِAnd (due) to Allahعَلَىuponٱلنَّاسِthe mankindحِجُّ(is) pilgrimageٱلْبَيْتِ(of) the Houseمَنِ(for one) whoٱسْتَطَاعَis ableإِلَيْهِto [it]سَبِيلًۭا ۚ(find) a wayوَمَنAnd whoeverكَفَرَdisbelievedفَإِنَّthen indeedٱللَّهَAllahغَنِىٌّ(is) free from needعَنِofٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَthe universe٩٧

In it are clear signs [such as] the standing place of Abraham. And whoever enters it [i.e., the Ḥaram] shall be safe. And [due] to Allāh from the people is a pilgrimage to the House - for whoever is able to find thereto a way. But whoever disbelieves [i.e., refuses] - then indeed, Allāh is free from need of the worlds.

٣:٩٨

قُلْSayيَـٰٓأَهْلَO Peopleٱلْكِتَـٰبِ(of) the BookلِمَWhyتَكْفُرُونَ(do) you disbelieveبِـَٔايَـٰتِin (the) Versesٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَٱللَّهُwhile Allahشَهِيدٌ(is) a Witnessعَلَىٰoverمَاwhatتَعْمَلُونَyou do٩٨

Say, "O People of the Scripture, why do you disbelieve in the verses of Allāh while Allāh is Witness over what you do?"

٣:٩٩

قُلْSayيَـٰٓأَهْلَO Peopleٱلْكِتَـٰبِ(of) the BookلِمَWhyتَصُدُّونَ(do) you hinderعَنfromسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahمَنْ(those) whoءَامَنَbelieve[d]تَبْغُونَهَاseeking (to make) itعِوَجًۭا(seem) crookedوَأَنتُمْwhile youشُهَدَآءُ ۗ(are) witnessesوَمَاAnd notٱللَّهُAllahبِغَـٰفِلٍ(is) unawareعَمَّاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou do٩٩

Say, "O People of the Scripture, why do you avert from the way of Allāh those who believe, seeking to make it [seem] deviant, while you are witnesses [to the truth]? And Allāh is not unaware of what you do."

٣:١٠٠

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوٓا۟believe[d]إِنIfتُطِيعُوا۟you obeyفَرِيقًۭاa groupمِّنَfromٱلَّذِينَthose whoأُوتُوا۟were givenٱلْكِتَـٰبَthe Bookيَرُدُّوكُمthey will turn you backبَعْدَafterإِيمَـٰنِكُمْyour beliefكَـٰفِرِينَ(as) disbelievers١٠٠

O you who have believed, if you obey a party of those who were given the Scripture, they would turn you back, after your belief, [to being] unbelievers.

٣:١٠١

وَكَيْفَAnd how (could)تَكْفُرُونَyou disbelieveوَأَنتُمْwhile [you]تُتْلَىٰis recitedعَلَيْكُمْupon youءَايَـٰتُ(the) Versesٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَفِيكُمْand among youرَسُولُهُۥ ۗ(is) His MessengerوَمَنAnd whoeverيَعْتَصِمholds firmlyبِٱللَّهِto Allahفَقَدْthen surelyهُدِىَhe is guidedإِلَىٰtoصِرَٰطٍۢa pathمُّسْتَقِيمٍۢstraight١٠١

And how could you disbelieve while to you are being recited the verses of Allāh and among you is His Messenger? And whoever holds firmly to Allāh has [indeed] been guided to a straight path.

٣:١٠٢

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]ٱتَّقُوا۟FearٱللَّهَAllahحَقَّ(as is His) rightتُقَاتِهِۦ(that) He (should) be fearedوَلَاand (do) notتَمُوتُنَّdieإِلَّاexceptوَأَنتُم[while you]مُّسْلِمُونَ(as) Muslims١٠٢

O you who have believed, fear Allāh as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].

٣:١٠٣

وَٱعْتَصِمُوا۟And hold firmlyبِحَبْلِto (the) ropeٱللَّهِ(of) Allahجَمِيعًۭاall togetherوَلَاand (do) notتَفَرَّقُوا۟ ۚbe dividedوَٱذْكُرُوا۟And rememberنِعْمَتَ(the) Favorٱللَّهِ(of) Allahعَلَيْكُمْon youإِذْwhenكُنتُمْyou wereأَعْدَآءًۭenemiesفَأَلَّفَthen He made friendshipبَيْنَbetweenقُلُوبِكُمْyour heartsفَأَصْبَحْتُمthen you becameبِنِعْمَتِهِۦٓby His FavorإِخْوَٰنًۭاbrothersوَكُنتُمْAnd you wereعَلَىٰonشَفَا(the) brinkحُفْرَةٍۢ(of) pitمِّنَofٱلنَّارِthe Fireفَأَنقَذَكُمthen He saved youمِّنْهَا ۗfrom itكَذَٰلِكَThusيُبَيِّنُmakes clearٱللَّهُAllahلَكُمْfor youءَايَـٰتِهِۦHis Versesلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتَهْتَدُونَ(be) guided١٠٣

And hold firmly to the rope of Allāh all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of Allāh upon you - when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers. And you were on the edge of a pit of the Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus does Allāh make clear to you His verses that you may be guided.

٣:١٠٤

وَلْتَكُنAnd let there beمِّنكُمْamong youأُمَّةٌۭ[a] peopleيَدْعُونَinvitingإِلَىtoٱلْخَيْرِthe goodوَيَأْمُرُونَ[and] enjoiningبِٱلْمَعْرُوفِthe rightوَيَنْهَوْنَand forbiddingعَنِfromٱلْمُنكَرِ ۚthe wrongوَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَand those هُمُtheyٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ(are) the successful ones١٠٤

And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and those will be the successful.

٣:١٠٥

وَلَاAnd (do) notتَكُونُوا۟beكَٱلَّذِينَlike those whoتَفَرَّقُوا۟became dividedوَٱخْتَلَفُوا۟and differedمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterمَاwhatجَآءَهُمُcame to them ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتُ ۚthe clear proofsوَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَAnd thoseلَهُمْfor themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentعَظِيمٌۭgreat١٠٥

And do not be like the ones who became divided and differed after the clear proofs had come to them. And those will have a great punishment

٣:١٠٦

يَوْمَ(On the) Dayتَبْيَضُّwould become whiteوُجُوهٌۭ(some) facesوَتَسْوَدُّand would become blackوُجُوهٌۭ ۚ(some) facesفَأَمَّاAs forٱلَّذِينَthose whoseٱسْوَدَّتْturn blackوُجُوهُهُمْ[their] faces أَكَفَرْتُمDid you disbelieveبَعْدَafterإِيمَـٰنِكُمْyour beliefفَذُوقُوا۟Then tasteٱلْعَذَابَthe punishmentبِمَاfor whatكُنتُمْyou used toتَكْفُرُونَdisbelieve١٠٦

On the Day [some] faces will turn white and [some] faces will turn black. As for those whose faces turn black, [to them it will be said], "Did you disbelieve [i.e., reject faith] after your belief? Then taste the punishment for what you used to reject."

٣:١٠٧

وَأَمَّاBut as forٱلَّذِينَthose whoseٱبْيَضَّتْturn whiteوُجُوهُهُمْ[their] facesفَفِىthen (they will be) inرَحْمَةِ(the) Mercyٱللَّهِ(of) Allahهُمْtheyفِيهَاin itخَـٰلِدُونَ(will) abide forever١٠٧

But as for those whose faces turn white, [they will be] within the mercy of Allāh. They will abide therein eternally.

٣:١٠٨

تِلْكَTheseءَايَـٰتُ(are the) Versesٱللَّهِ(of) AllahنَتْلُوهَاWe recite themعَلَيْكَto youبِٱلْحَقِّ ۗin truthوَمَاAnd notٱللَّهُAllahيُرِيدُwantsظُلْمًۭاinjusticeلِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَto the worlds١٠٨

These are the verses of Allāh. We recite them to you, [O Muḥammad], in truth; and Allāh wants no injustice to the worlds [i.e., His creatures].

٣:١٠٩

وَلِلَّهِAnd to Allah (belongs)مَاwhateverفِى(is) inٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِthe heavensوَمَاand whateverفِى(is) inٱلْأَرْضِ ۚthe earthوَإِلَىAnd toٱللَّهِAllahتُرْجَعُwill be returnedٱلْأُمُورُthe matters١٠٩

To Allāh belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And to Allāh will [all] matters be returned.

٣:١١٠

كُنتُمْYou areخَيْرَ(the) bestأُمَّةٍ(of) peopleأُخْرِجَتْraisedلِلنَّاسِfor the mankind تَأْمُرُونَenjoiningبِٱلْمَعْرُوفِthe rightوَتَنْهَوْنَand forbiddingعَنِ[from]ٱلْمُنكَرِthe wrongوَتُؤْمِنُونَand believingبِٱللَّهِ ۗin AllahوَلَوْAnd ifءَامَنَbelievedأَهْلُ(the) Peopleٱلْكِتَـٰبِ(of) the Bookلَكَانَsurely would have beenخَيْرًۭاgoodلَّهُم ۚfor themمِّنْهُمُAmong themٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ(are) [the] believersوَأَكْثَرُهُمُbut most of themٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ(are) defiantly disobedient١١٠

You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allāh. If only the People of the Scripture had believed, it would have been better for them. Among them are believers, but most of them are defiantly disobedient.

٣:١١١

لَنNeverيَضُرُّوكُمْwill they harm youإِلَّآexceptأَذًۭى ۖa hurtوَإِنAnd ifيُقَـٰتِلُوكُمْthey fight youيُوَلُّوكُمُthey will turn (towards) youٱلْأَدْبَارَthe backsثُمَّthenلَاnotيُنصَرُونَthey will be helped١١١

They will not harm you except for [some] annoyance. And if they fight you, they will show you their backs [i.e., retreat]; then they will not be aided.

٣:١١٢

ضُرِبَتْStruckعَلَيْهِمُon themٱلذِّلَّةُthe humiliationأَيْنَwhereverمَاthatثُقِفُوٓا۟they are foundإِلَّاexceptبِحَبْلٍۢwith a ropeمِّنَfromٱللَّهِAllahوَحَبْلٍۢand a ropeمِّنَfromٱلنَّاسِthe peopleوَبَآءُوAnd they incurredبِغَضَبٍۢwrathمِّنَfromٱللَّهِAllahوَضُرِبَتْand struckعَلَيْهِمُon themٱلْمَسْكَنَةُ ۚthe povertyذَٰلِكَThatبِأَنَّهُمْ(is) becauseكَانُوا۟they used toيَكْفُرُونَdisbelieveبِـَٔايَـٰتِin (the) Versesٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَيَقْتُلُونَand they killedٱلْأَنۢبِيَآءَthe Prophetsبِغَيْرِwithoutحَقٍّۢ ۚrightذَٰلِكَThatبِمَا(is) becauseعَصَوا۟they disobeyedوَّكَانُوا۟and they used toيَعْتَدُونَtransgress١١٢

They have been put under humiliation [by Allāh] wherever they are overtaken, except for a rope [i.e., covenant] from Allāh and a rope [i.e., treaty] from the people [i.e., the Muslims]. And they have drawn upon themselves anger from Allāh and have been put under destitution. That is because they disbelieved in [i.e., rejected] the verses of Allāh and killed the prophets without right. That is because they disobeyed and [habitually] transgressed.

٣:١١٣

۞ لَيْسُوا۟They are notسَوَآءًۭ ۗ(the) sameمِّنْamongأَهْلِ(the) Peopleٱلْكِتَـٰبِ(of) the Bookأُمَّةٌۭ(is) a communityقَآئِمَةٌۭstandingيَتْلُونَ(and) recitingءَايَـٰتِ(the) Versesٱللَّهِ(of) Allahءَانَآءَ(in the) hoursٱلَّيْلِ(of) the nightوَهُمْand theyيَسْجُدُونَprostrate١١٣

They are not [all] the same; among the People of the Scripture is a community standing [in obedience], reciting the verses of Allāh during periods of the night and prostrating [in prayer].

٣:١١٤

يُؤْمِنُونَThey believeبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَٱلْيَوْمِand the Dayٱلْـَٔاخِرِthe Lastوَيَأْمُرُونَand they enjoinبِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ[with] the rightوَيَنْهَوْنَand forbidعَنِ[from]ٱلْمُنكَرِthe wrongوَيُسَـٰرِعُونَand they hastenفِىinٱلْخَيْرَٰتِthe good deedsوَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَAnd thoseمِنَ(are) fromٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَthe righteous١١٤

They believe in Allāh and the Last Day, and they enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and hasten to good deeds. And those are among the righteous.

٣:١١٥

وَمَاAnd whateverيَفْعَلُوا۟they doمِنْofخَيْرٍۢa goodفَلَنthen neverيُكْفَرُوهُ ۗwill they be denied itوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahعَلِيمٌۢ(is) All-Knowingبِٱلْمُتَّقِينَof the God-fearing١١٥

And whatever good they do - never will it be denied them. And Allāh is Knowing of the righteous.

٣:١١٦

إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelievedلَنneverتُغْنِىَwill availعَنْهُمْ[for] themأَمْوَٰلُهُمْtheir wealthوَلَآand notأَوْلَـٰدُهُمtheir childrenمِّنَagainstٱللَّهِAllahشَيْـًۭٔا ۖanythingوَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَand thoseأَصْحَـٰبُ(are the) companionsٱلنَّارِ ۚ(of) the Fireهُمْtheyفِيهَاin itخَـٰلِدُونَ(will) abide forever١١٦

Indeed, those who disbelieve - never will their wealth or their children avail them against Allāh at all, and those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.

٣:١١٧

مَثَلُExampleمَا(of) whatيُنفِقُونَthey spendفِىinهَـٰذِهِthisٱلْحَيَوٰةِ[the] lifeٱلدُّنْيَا(of) the worldكَمَثَلِ(is) like (the) exampleرِيحٍۢ(of) a windفِيهَاin itصِرٌّ(is) frostأَصَابَتْit struckحَرْثَ(the) harvestقَوْمٍۢ(of) a peopleظَلَمُوٓا۟who wrongedأَنفُسَهُمْthemselvesفَأَهْلَكَتْهُ ۚthen destroyed itوَمَاAnd notظَلَمَهُمُ(has) wronged themٱللَّهُAllahوَلَـٰكِنْ[and] butأَنفُسَهُمْthemselvesيَظْلِمُونَthey wronged١١٧

The example of what they spend in this worldly life is like that of a wind containing frost which strikes the harvest of a people who have wronged themselves [i.e., sinned] and destroys it. And Allāh has not wronged them, but they wrong themselves.

٣:١١٨

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]لَا(Do) notتَتَّخِذُوا۟takeبِطَانَةًۭ(as) intimatesمِّنfromدُونِكُمْother than yourselvesلَاnotيَأْلُونَكُمْthey will spare youخَبَالًۭا(any) ruinوَدُّوا۟They wishمَاwhatعَنِتُّمْdistresses youقَدْIndeedبَدَتِ(has become) apparentٱلْبَغْضَآءُthe hatredمِنْfromأَفْوَٰهِهِمْtheir mouthsوَمَاand whatتُخْفِىconcealsصُدُورُهُمْtheir breastsأَكْبَرُ ۚ(is) greaterقَدْCertainlyبَيَّنَّاWe made clearلَكُمُfor youٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ ۖthe Versesإِنifكُنتُمْyou wereتَعْقِلُونَ(to use) reason١١٨

O you who have believed, do not take as intimates those other than yourselves [i.e., believers], for they will not spare you [any] ruin. They wish you would have hardship. Hatred has already appeared from their mouths, and what their breasts conceal is greater. We have certainly made clear to you the signs, if you will use reason.

٣:١١٩

هَـٰٓأَنتُمْLo! You areأُو۟لَآءِthoseتُحِبُّونَهُمْyou love themوَلَاbut notيُحِبُّونَكُمْthey love youوَتُؤْمِنُونَand you believeبِٱلْكِتَـٰبِin the Book كُلِّهِۦall of itوَإِذَاAnd whenلَقُوكُمْthey meet youقَالُوٓا۟they sayءَامَنَّاWe believeوَإِذَاAnd whenخَلَوْا۟they are aloneعَضُّوا۟they biteعَلَيْكُمُat youٱلْأَنَامِلَthe finger tipsمِنَ(out) ofٱلْغَيْظِ ۚ[the] rageقُلْSayمُوتُوا۟Dieبِغَيْظِكُمْ ۗin your rageإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahعَلِيمٌۢ(is) All-Knowingبِذَاتِof whatٱلصُّدُورِ(is in) the breasts١١٩

Here you are loving them but they are not loving you, while you believe in the Scripture - all of it. And when they meet you, they say, "We believe." But when they are alone, they bite their fingertips at you in rage. Say, "Die in your rage. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing of that within the breasts."

٣:١٢٠

إِنIfتَمْسَسْكُمْtouches youحَسَنَةٌۭa goodتَسُؤْهُمْit grieves themوَإِنand ifتُصِبْكُمْstrikes youسَيِّئَةٌۭmisfortuneيَفْرَحُوا۟they rejoiceبِهَا ۖat itوَإِنAnd ifتَصْبِرُوا۟you are patientوَتَتَّقُوا۟and fear (Allah)لَاnotيَضُرُّكُمْwill harm youكَيْدُهُمْtheir plotشَيْـًٔا ۗ(in) anythingإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahبِمَاof whatيَعْمَلُونَthey doمُحِيطٌۭ(is) All-Encompassing١٢٠

If good touches you, it distresses them; but if harm strikes you, they rejoice at it. And if you are patient and fear Allāh, their plot will not harm you at all. Indeed, Allāh is encompassing of what they do.

٣:١٢١

وَإِذْAnd whenغَدَوْتَyou left early morningمِنْfromأَهْلِكَyour householdتُبَوِّئُto postٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersمَقَـٰعِدَ(to take) positionsلِلْقِتَالِ ۗfor the battleوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahسَمِيعٌ(is) All-HearingعَلِيمٌAll-Knowing١٢١

And [remember] when you, [O Muḥammad], left your family in the morning to post the believers at their stations for the battle [of Uḥud] - and Allāh is Hearing and Knowing -

٣:١٢٢

إِذْWhenهَمَّتinclinedطَّآئِفَتَانِtwo partiesمِنكُمْamong youأَنthatتَفْشَلَاthey lost heartوَٱللَّهُbut Allahوَلِيُّهُمَا ۗ(was) their protectorوَعَلَىAnd onٱللَّهِAllahفَلْيَتَوَكَّلِlet put (their) trustٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَthe believers١٢٢

When two parties among you were about to lose courage, but Allāh was their ally; and upon Allāh the believers should rely.

٣:١٢٣

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyنَصَرَكُمُhelped youٱللَّهُAllahبِبَدْرٍۢin Badrوَأَنتُمْwhile you (were)أَذِلَّةٌۭ ۖweakفَٱتَّقُوا۟So fearٱللَّهَAllahلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتَشْكُرُونَ(be) grateful١٢٣

And already had Allāh given you victory at [the battle of] Badr while you were weak [i.e., few in number]. Then fear Allāh; perhaps you will be grateful.

٣:١٢٤

إِذْWhenتَقُولُyou saidلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَto the believersأَلَنIs it notيَكْفِيَكُمْenough for youأَنthatيُمِدَّكُمْreinforces youرَبُّكُمyour Lordبِثَلَـٰثَةِwith threeءَالَـٰفٍۢthousand[s]مِّنَ[of]ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ[the] Angelsمُنزَلِينَ[the ones] sent down١٢٤

[Remember] when you said to the believers, "Is it not sufficient for you that your Lord should reinforce you with three thousand angels sent down?

٣:١٢٥

بَلَىٰٓ ۚYesإِنifتَصْبِرُوا۟you are patientوَتَتَّقُوا۟and fear (Allah)وَيَأْتُوكُمand they come upon youمِّن[of]فَوْرِهِمْsuddenlyهَـٰذَا[this]يُمْدِدْكُمْwill reinforce youرَبُّكُمyour Lordبِخَمْسَةِwith fiveءَالَـٰفٍۢthousand[s]مِّنَ[of]ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ[the] Angelsمُسَوِّمِينَ[the ones] having marks١٢٥

Yes, if you remain patient and conscious of Allāh and they [i.e., the enemy] come upon you [attacking] in rage, your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand angels having marks [of distinction]."

٣:١٢٦

وَمَاAnd notجَعَلَهُmade itٱللَّهُAllahإِلَّاexceptبُشْرَىٰ(as) good newsلَكُمْfor youوَلِتَطْمَئِنَّand to reassureقُلُوبُكُمyour heartsبِهِۦ ۗwith itوَمَاAnd (there is) noٱلنَّصْرُ[the] victoryإِلَّاexceptمِنْfromعِندِ[near]ٱللَّهِAllahٱلْعَزِيزِthe All-Mightyٱلْحَكِيمِthe All-Wise١٢٦

And Allāh made it not except as [a sign of] good tidings for you and to reassure your hearts thereby. And victory is not except from Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Wise -

٣:١٢٧

لِيَقْطَعَThat He may cut offطَرَفًۭاa partمِّنَofٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوٓا۟disbelievedأَوْorيَكْبِتَهُمْsuppress themفَيَنقَلِبُوا۟so (that) they turn backخَآئِبِينَdisappointed١٢٧

That He might cut down a section of the disbelievers or suppress them so that they turn back disappointed.

٣:١٢٨

لَيْسَNotلَكَfor youمِنَofٱلْأَمْرِthe decisionشَىْءٌ(of) anythingأَوْwhetherيَتُوبَHe turnsعَلَيْهِمْto themأَوْorيُعَذِّبَهُمْpunishes themفَإِنَّهُمْfor indeed, theyظَـٰلِمُونَ(are) wrongdoers١٢٨

Not for you, [O Muḥammad, but for Allāh], is the decision whether He should [cut them down] or forgive them or punish them, for indeed, they are wrongdoers.

٣:١٢٩

وَلِلَّهِAnd to Allah (belongs)مَاwhatفِى(is) inٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِthe heavensوَمَاand whatفِى(is) inٱلْأَرْضِ ۚthe earthيَغْفِرُHe forgivesلِمَن[for] whomيَشَآءُHe willsوَيُعَذِّبُand punishesمَنwhomيَشَآءُ ۚHe willsوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahغَفُورٌۭ(is) Oft-ForgivingرَّحِيمٌۭMost Merciful١٢٩

And to Allāh belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.

٣:١٣٠

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believeلَا(Do) notتَأْكُلُوا۟eatٱلرِّبَوٰٓا۟the usuryأَضْعَـٰفًۭاdoubledمُّضَـٰعَفَةًۭ ۖmultipliedوَٱتَّقُوا۟And fearٱللَّهَAllahلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتُفْلِحُونَ(be) successful١٣٠

O you who have believed, do not consume usury, doubled and multiplied, but fear Allāh that you may be successful.

٣:١٣١

وَٱتَّقُوا۟And fearٱلنَّارَthe Fireٱلَّتِىٓwhichأُعِدَّتْis preparedلِلْكَـٰفِرِينَfor the disbelievers١٣١

And fear the Fire, which has been prepared for the disbelievers.

٣:١٣٢

وَأَطِيعُوا۟And obeyٱللَّهَAllahوَٱلرَّسُولَand the Messengerلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتُرْحَمُونَreceive mercy١٣٢

And obey Allāh and the Messenger that you may obtain mercy.

٣:١٣٣

۞ وَسَارِعُوٓا۟And hastenإِلَىٰtoمَغْفِرَةٍۢforgivenessمِّنfromرَّبِّكُمْyour Lordوَجَنَّةٍand a Garden عَرْضُهَاits widthٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ(is like that of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضُand the earthأُعِدَّتْpreparedلِلْمُتَّقِينَfor the pious١٣٣

And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden [i.e., Paradise] as wide as the heavens and earth, prepared for the righteous

٣:١٣٤

ٱلَّذِينَThose whoيُنفِقُونَspendفِىinٱلسَّرَّآءِ[the] easeوَٱلضَّرَّآءِand (in) the hardshipوَٱلْكَـٰظِمِينَand those who restrainٱلْغَيْظَthe angerوَٱلْعَافِينَand those who pardonعَنِ[from]ٱلنَّاسِ ۗthe people وَٱللَّهُand Allahيُحِبُّlovesٱلْمُحْسِنِينَthe good-doers١٣٤

Who spend [in the cause of Allāh] during ease and hardship and who restrain anger and who pardon the people - and Allāh loves the doers of good;

٣:١٣٥

وَٱلَّذِينَAnd thoseإِذَاwhenفَعَلُوا۟they didفَـٰحِشَةًimmoralityأَوْorظَلَمُوٓا۟wrongedأَنفُسَهُمْthemselves ذَكَرُوا۟they rememberٱللَّهَAllahفَٱسْتَغْفَرُوا۟then ask forgivenessلِذُنُوبِهِمْfor their sins وَمَنand whoيَغْفِرُ(can) forgiveٱلذُّنُوبَthe sinsإِلَّاexceptٱللَّهُAllahوَلَمْAnd notيُصِرُّوا۟they persistعَلَىٰonمَاwhatفَعَلُوا۟they didوَهُمْwhile theyيَعْلَمُونَknow١٣٥

And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allāh and seek forgiveness for their sins - and who can forgive sins except Allāh? - and [who] do not persist in what they have done while they know.

٣:١٣٦

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَThose جَزَآؤُهُمtheir rewardمَّغْفِرَةٌۭ(is) forgivenessمِّنfromرَّبِّهِمْtheir Lordوَجَنَّـٰتٌۭand Gardensتَجْرِىflowsمِنfromتَحْتِهَاunderneath itٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُthe riversخَـٰلِدِينَabiding foreverفِيهَا ۚin itوَنِعْمَAnd an excellentأَجْرُrewardٱلْعَـٰمِلِينَ(for) the (righteous) workers١٣٦

Those - their reward is forgiveness from their Lord and gardens beneath which rivers flow [in Paradise], wherein they will abide eternally; and excellent is the reward of the [righteous] workers.

٣:١٣٧

قَدْVerilyخَلَتْpassedمِنfromقَبْلِكُمْbefore youسُنَنٌۭsituationsفَسِيرُوا۟then travelفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthفَٱنظُرُوا۟and seeكَيْفَhowكَانَwasعَـٰقِبَةُ(the) endٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ(of) the deniers١٣٧

Similar situations [as yours] have passed on before you, so proceed throughout the earth and observe how was the end of those who denied.

٣:١٣٨

هَـٰذَاThisبَيَانٌۭ(is) a declarationلِّلنَّاسِfor the peopleوَهُدًۭىand guidanceوَمَوْعِظَةٌۭand admonitionلِّلْمُتَّقِينَfor the God-fearing١٣٨

This [Qur’ān] is a clear statement to [all] the people and a guidance and instruction for those conscious of Allāh.

٣:١٣٩

وَلَاAnd (do) notتَهِنُوا۟weakenوَلَاand (do) notتَحْزَنُوا۟grieveوَأَنتُمُand you (will be)ٱلْأَعْلَوْنَ[the] superiorإِنifكُنتُمyou areمُّؤْمِنِينَbelievers١٣٩

So do not weaken and do not grieve, and you will be superior if you are [true] believers.

٣:١٤٠

إِنIfيَمْسَسْكُمْtouched youقَرْحٌۭa woundفَقَدْso certainlyمَسَّ(has) touchedٱلْقَوْمَthe peopleقَرْحٌۭwoundمِّثْلُهُۥ ۚlike itوَتِلْكَAnd thisٱلْأَيَّامُ[the] daysنُدَاوِلُهَاWe alternate themبَيْنَamongٱلنَّاسِthe peopleوَلِيَعْلَمَ[and] so that makes evidentٱللَّهُAllahٱلَّذِينَthose whoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]وَيَتَّخِذَand takeمِنكُمْfrom youشُهَدَآءَ ۗmartyrsوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahلَا(does) notيُحِبُّloveٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَthe wrongdoers١٤٠

If a wound should touch you - there has already touched the [opposing] people a wound similar to it. And these days [of varying conditions] We alternate among the people so that Allāh may make evident those who believe and [may] take to Himself from among you martyrs - and Allāh does not like the wrongdoers -

٣:١٤١

وَلِيُمَحِّصَAnd so that may purifyٱللَّهُAllahٱلَّذِينَthose whoءَامَنُوا۟believeوَيَمْحَقَand destroyٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَthe disbelievers١٤١

And that Allāh may purify the believers [through trials] and destroy the disbelievers.

٣:١٤٢

أَمْOrحَسِبْتُمْdo you thinkأَنthatتَدْخُلُوا۟you will enterٱلْجَنَّةَParadiseوَلَمَّاwhile has not yetيَعْلَمِmade evidentٱللَّهُAllahٱلَّذِينَthose whoجَـٰهَدُوا۟strove hardمِنكُمْamong youوَيَعْلَمَand made evidentٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَthe steadfast١٤٢

Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while Allāh has not yet made evident those of you who fight in His cause and made evident those who are steadfast?

٣:١٤٣

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyكُنتُمْyou used toتَمَنَّوْنَwishٱلْمَوْتَ(for) deathمِنfromقَبْلِbeforeأَن[that]تَلْقَوْهُyou met itفَقَدْthen indeedرَأَيْتُمُوهُyou have seen itوَأَنتُمْwhile you (were)تَنظُرُونَlooking on١٤٣

And you had certainly wished for death [i.e., martyrdom] before you encountered it, and you have [now] seen it [before you] while you were looking on.

٣:١٤٤

وَمَاAnd notمُحَمَّدٌ(is) Muhammad إِلَّاexceptرَسُولٌۭa Messengerقَدْcertainlyخَلَتْpassed awayمِنfromقَبْلِهِbefore himٱلرُّسُلُ ۚ[the] (other) Messengersأَفَإِي۟نSo ifمَّاتَhe diedأَوْorقُتِلَis slainٱنقَلَبْتُمْwill you turn backعَلَىٰٓonأَعْقَـٰبِكُمْ ۚyour heelsوَمَنAnd whoeverيَنقَلِبْturns backعَلَىٰonعَقِبَيْهِhis heelsفَلَنthen neverيَضُرَّwill he harmٱللَّهَAllahشَيْـًۭٔا ۗ(in) anythingوَسَيَجْزِىAnd will rewardٱللَّهُAllahٱلشَّـٰكِرِينَthe grateful ones١٤٤

Muḥammad is not but a messenger. [Other] messengers have passed on before him. So if he was to die or be killed, would you turn back on your heels [to unbelief]? And he who turns back on his heels will never harm Allāh at all; but Allāh will reward the grateful.

٣:١٤٥

وَمَاAnd notكَانَisلِنَفْسٍfor a soulأَنthatتَمُوتَhe diesإِلَّاexceptبِإِذْنِby (the) permissionٱللَّهِ(of) Allahكِتَـٰبًۭا(at a) decreeمُّؤَجَّلًۭا ۗdeterminedوَمَنAnd whoeverيُرِدْdesiresثَوَابَrewardٱلدُّنْيَا(of) the world نُؤْتِهِۦWe will give himمِنْهَاthereofوَمَنand whoeverيُرِدْdesiresثَوَابَrewardٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ(of) the HereafterنُؤْتِهِۦWe will give himمِنْهَا ۚthereofوَسَنَجْزِىAnd We will rewardٱلشَّـٰكِرِينَthe grateful ones١٤٥

And it is not [possible] for one to die except by permission of Allāh at a decree determined. And whoever desires the reward of this world - We will give him thereof; and whoever desires the reward of the Hereafter - We will give him thereof. And We will reward the grateful.

٣:١٤٦

وَكَأَيِّنAnd how manyمِّنfromنَّبِىٍّۢa Prophetقَـٰتَلَfoughtمَعَهُۥwith himرِبِّيُّونَ(were) religious scholarsكَثِيرٌۭmanyفَمَاBut notوَهَنُوا۟they lost heartلِمَآfor whatأَصَابَهُمْbefell themفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَمَاand notضَعُفُوا۟they weakenedوَمَاand notٱسْتَكَانُوا۟ ۗthey gave inوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahيُحِبُّlovesٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَthe patient ones١٤٦

And how many a prophet [fought in battle and] with him fought many religious scholars. But they never lost assurance due to what afflicted them in the cause of Allāh, nor did they weaken or submit. And Allāh loves the steadfast.

٣:١٤٧

وَمَاAnd notكَانَwereقَوْلَهُمْtheir wordsإِلَّآexceptأَنthatقَالُوا۟they saidرَبَّنَاOur Lordٱغْفِرْforgiveلَنَاfor usذُنُوبَنَاour sinsوَإِسْرَافَنَاand our excessesفِىٓinأَمْرِنَاour affairsوَثَبِّتْand make firmأَقْدَامَنَاour feetوَٱنصُرْنَاand give us victoryعَلَىoverٱلْقَوْمِ[the people]ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَthe disbelievers١٤٧

And their words were not but that they said, "Our Lord, forgive us our sins and the excess [committed] in our affairs and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people."

٣:١٤٨

فَـَٔاتَىٰهُمُSo gave themٱللَّهُAllahثَوَابَrewardٱلدُّنْيَا(in) the worldوَحُسْنَand goodثَوَابِrewardٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۗ(in) the HereafterوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahيُحِبُّlovesٱلْمُحْسِنِينَthe good-doers١٤٨

So Allāh gave them the reward of this world and the good reward of the Hereafter. And Allāh loves the doers of good.

٣:١٤٩

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوٓا۟believeإِنIfتُطِيعُوا۟you obeyٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieveيَرُدُّوكُمْthey will turn you backعَلَىٰٓonأَعْقَـٰبِكُمْyour heelsفَتَنقَلِبُوا۟then you will turn backخَـٰسِرِينَ(as) losers١٤٩

O you who have believed, if you obey those who disbelieve, they will turn you back on your heels, and you will [then] become losers.

٣:١٥٠

بَلِNayٱللَّهُAllahمَوْلَىٰكُمْ ۖ(is) your Protectorوَهُوَand Heخَيْرُ(is the) bestٱلنَّـٰصِرِينَ(of) the Helpers١٥٠

But Allāh is your protector, and He is the best of helpers.

٣:١٥١

سَنُلْقِىWe will castفِىinقُلُوبِ(the) heartsٱلَّذِينَ(of) those whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieveٱلرُّعْبَ[the] terrorبِمَآbecauseأَشْرَكُوا۟they associated partnersبِٱللَّهِwith AllahمَاwhatلَمْnotيُنَزِّلْHe sent downبِهِۦabout itسُلْطَـٰنًۭا ۖany authorityوَمَأْوَىٰهُمُand their refugeٱلنَّارُ ۚ(will be) the Fireوَبِئْسَand wretchedمَثْوَى(is the) abodeٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ[of] the wrongdoers١٥١

We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve for what they have associated with Allāh of which He had not sent down [any] authority. And their refuge will be the Fire, and wretched is the residence of the wrongdoers.

٣:١٥٢

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyصَدَقَكُمُfulfilled to youٱللَّهُAllahوَعْدَهُۥٓHis promiseإِذْwhenتَحُسُّونَهُمyou were killing themبِإِذْنِهِۦ ۖby His permissionحَتَّىٰٓuntilإِذَاwhenفَشِلْتُمْyou lost courageوَتَنَـٰزَعْتُمْand you fell into disputeفِىconcerningٱلْأَمْرِthe orderوَعَصَيْتُمand you disobeyedمِّنۢfromبَعْدِafterمَآ[what]أَرَىٰكُمHe (had) shown youمَّاwhatتُحِبُّونَ ۚyou loveمِنكُمAmong youمَّن(are some) whoيُرِيدُdesireٱلدُّنْيَاthe worldوَمِنكُمand among youمَّن(are some) whoيُرِيدُdesireٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۚthe HereafterثُمَّThenصَرَفَكُمْHe diverted youعَنْهُمْfrom themلِيَبْتَلِيَكُمْ ۖso that He may test youوَلَقَدْAnd surelyعَفَاHe forgaveعَنكُمْ ۗyouوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahذُو(is the) Possessorفَضْلٍ(of) Bountyعَلَىforٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believers١٥٢

And Allāh had certainly fulfilled His promise to you when you were killing them [i.e., the enemy] by His permission until [the time] when you lost courage and fell to disputing about the order [given by the Prophet (ﷺ)] and disobeyed after He had shown you that which you love. Among you are some who desire this world, and among you are some who desire the Hereafter. Then He turned you back from them [defeated] that He might test you. And He has already forgiven you, and Allāh is the possessor of bounty for the believers.

٣:١٥٣

۞ إِذْWhenتُصْعِدُونَyou were running uphillوَلَاand notتَلْوُۥنَcasting a glanceعَلَىٰٓonأَحَدٍۢanyoneوَٱلرَّسُولُwhile the Messengerيَدْعُوكُمْwas calling youفِىٓ[in]أُخْرَىٰكُمْ(from) behind youفَأَثَـٰبَكُمْSo (He) repaid youغَمًّۢا(with) distressبِغَمٍّۢon distressلِّكَيْلَاso that notتَحْزَنُوا۟you grieveعَلَىٰoverمَاwhatفَاتَكُمْescaped youوَلَاand notمَآwhatأَصَـٰبَكُمْ ۗ(had) befallen youوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahخَبِيرٌۢ(is) All-Awareبِمَاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou do١٥٣

[Remember] when you [fled and] climbed [the mountain] without looking aside at anyone while the Messenger was calling you from behind. So Allāh repaid you with distress upon distress so you would not grieve for that which had escaped you [of victory and spoils of war] or [for] that which had befallen you [of injury and death]. And Allāh is [fully] Aware of what you do.

٣:١٥٤

ثُمَّThenأَنزَلَHe sent downعَلَيْكُمupon youمِّنۢfromبَعْدِafterٱلْغَمِّthe distressأَمَنَةًۭsecurity نُّعَاسًۭاslumberيَغْشَىٰovercomingطَآئِفَةًۭa groupمِّنكُمْ ۖof youوَطَآئِفَةٌۭwhile a groupقَدْcertainlyأَهَمَّتْهُمْworried [them]أَنفُسُهُمْ(about) themselvesيَظُنُّونَthinkingبِٱللَّهِabout Allahغَيْرَother thanٱلْحَقِّthe truth ظَنَّ(the) thoughtٱلْجَـٰهِلِيَّةِ ۖ(of) [the] ignoranceيَقُولُونَsayingهَلIs (there)لَّنَاfor usمِنَfromٱلْأَمْرِthe matterمِنanyشَىْءٍۢ ۗthingقُلْSayإِنَّIndeedٱلْأَمْرَthe matterكُلَّهُۥall (of) itلِلَّهِ ۗ(is) for AllahيُخْفُونَThey hideفِىٓinأَنفُسِهِمthemselvesمَّاwhatلَاnotيُبْدُونَthey revealلَكَ ۖto youيَقُولُونَThey sayلَوْIfكَانَwasلَنَاfor usمِنَfromٱلْأَمْرِthe matterشَىْءٌۭanythingمَّاnotقُتِلْنَاwe would have been killedهَـٰهُنَا ۗhereقُلSayلَّوْIfكُنتُمْyou wereفِىinبُيُوتِكُمْyour housesلَبَرَزَsurely (would have) come outٱلَّذِينَthose who كُتِبَwas decreedعَلَيْهِمُupon themٱلْقَتْلُ[the] deathإِلَىٰtowardsمَضَاجِعِهِمْ ۖtheir places of deathوَلِيَبْتَلِىَAnd that might testٱللَّهُAllahمَاwhatفِى(is) inصُدُورِكُمْyour breastsوَلِيُمَحِّصَand that He may purgeمَاwhatفِى(is) inقُلُوبِكُمْ ۗyour heartsوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahعَلِيمٌۢ(is) All-Awareبِذَاتِof whatٱلصُّدُورِ(is in) the breasts١٥٤

Then after distress, He sent down upon you security [in the form of] drowsiness, overcoming a faction of you, while another faction worried about themselves, thinking of Allāh other than the truth - the thought of ignorance, saying, "Is there anything for us [to have done] in this matter?" Say, "Indeed, the matter belongs completely to Allāh." They conceal within themselves what they will not reveal to you. They say, "If there was anything we could have done in the matter, we [i.e., some of us] would not have been killed right here." Say, "Even if you had been inside your houses, those decreed to be killed would have come out to their death beds." [It was] so that Allāh might test what is in your breasts and purify what is in your hearts. And Allāh is Knowing of that within the breasts.

٣:١٥٥

إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoتَوَلَّوْا۟turned backمِنكُمْamong youيَوْمَ(on the) dayٱلْتَقَىmetٱلْجَمْعَانِthe two hosts إِنَّمَاonlyٱسْتَزَلَّهُمُmade them slipٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُthe Shaitaanبِبَعْضِfor someمَا(of) whatكَسَبُوا۟ ۖthey (had) earnedوَلَقَدْAnd surelyعَفَاforgaveٱللَّهُAllahعَنْهُمْ ۗ[on] themإِنَّindeedٱللَّهَAllahغَفُورٌ(is) Oft-ForgivingحَلِيمٌۭAll-Forbearing١٥٥

Indeed, those of you who turned back on the day the two armies met [at Uḥud] - it was Satan who caused them to slip because of some [blame] they had earned. But Allāh has already forgiven them. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Forbearing.

٣:١٥٦

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]لَا(Do) notتَكُونُوا۟beكَٱلَّذِينَlike those whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelievedوَقَالُوا۟and they saidلِإِخْوَٰنِهِمْabout their brothersإِذَاwhenضَرَبُوا۟they traveledفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthأَوْorكَانُوا۟they wereغُزًّۭىfightingلَّوْIfكَانُوا۟they had beenعِندَنَاwith usمَاnotمَاتُوا۟they (would have) diedوَمَاand notقُتِلُوا۟they (would have) been killedلِيَجْعَلَSo makesٱللَّهُAllahذَٰلِكَthatحَسْرَةًۭa regretفِىinقُلُوبِهِمْ ۗtheir heartsوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahيُحْىِۦgives lifeوَيُمِيتُ ۗand causes deathوَٱللَّهُand Allahبِمَاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou doبَصِيرٌۭ(is) All-Seer١٥٦

O you who have believed, do not be like those who disbelieved and said about their brothers when they traveled through the land or went out to fight, "If they had been with us, they would not have died or have been killed," so Allāh makes that [misconception] a regret within their hearts. And it is Allāh who gives life and causes death, and Allāh is Seeing of what you do.

٣:١٥٧

وَلَئِنAnd ifقُتِلْتُمْyou are killedفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahأَوْorمُتُّمْdie[d] لَمَغْفِرَةٌۭcertainly forgivenessمِّنَfromٱللَّهِAllahوَرَحْمَةٌand Mercyخَيْرٌۭ(are) betterمِّمَّاthan whatيَجْمَعُونَthey accumulate١٥٧

And if you are killed in the cause of Allāh or die - then forgiveness from Allāh and mercy are better than whatever they accumulate [in this world].

٣:١٥٨

وَلَئِنAnd ifمُّتُّمْyou dieأَوْorقُتِلْتُمْare killedلَإِلَىsurely toٱللَّهِAllahتُحْشَرُونَyou will be gathered١٥٨

And whether you die or are killed, unto Allāh you will be gathered.

٣:١٥٩

فَبِمَاSo becauseرَحْمَةٍۢ(of) MercyمِّنَfromٱللَّهِAllahلِنتَyou dealt gentlyلَهُمْ ۖwith themوَلَوْAnd ifكُنتَyou had beenفَظًّاrudeغَلِيظَ(and) harshٱلْقَلْبِ(at) [the] heartلَٱنفَضُّوا۟surely they (would have) dispersedمِنْfromحَوْلِكَ ۖaround youفَٱعْفُThen pardonعَنْهُمْ[from] themوَٱسْتَغْفِرْand ask forgivenessلَهُمْfor themوَشَاوِرْهُمْand consult themفِىinٱلْأَمْرِ ۖthe matterفَإِذَاThen whenعَزَمْتَyou have decidedفَتَوَكَّلْthen put trustعَلَىonٱللَّهِ ۚAllahإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahيُحِبُّlovesٱلْمُتَوَكِّلِينَthe ones who put trust (in Him)١٥٩

So by mercy from Allāh, [O Muḥammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult them in the matter. And when you have decided, then rely upon Allāh. Indeed, Allāh loves those who rely [upon Him].

٣:١٦٠

إِنIfيَنصُرْكُمُhelps youٱللَّهُAllahفَلَاthen notغَالِبَ(can) overcomeلَكُمْ ۖ[for] youوَإِنand ifيَخْذُلْكُمْHe forsakes youفَمَنthen whoذَا(is)ٱلَّذِىthe one whoيَنصُرُكُمcan help youمِّنۢfromبَعْدِهِۦ ۗafter HimوَعَلَىAnd onٱللَّهِAllah فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِlet put (their) trustٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَthe believers١٦٠

If Allāh should aid you, no one can overcome you; but if He should forsake you, who is there that can aid you after Him? And upon Allāh let the believers rely.

٣:١٦١

وَمَاAnd notكَانَisلِنَبِىٍّfor a Prophetأَنthatيَغُلَّ ۚhe defraudsوَمَنAnd whoeverيَغْلُلْdefraudsيَأْتِwill bringبِمَاwhatغَلَّhe had defraudedيَوْمَ(on the) Dayٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۚ(of) ResurrectionثُمَّThenتُوَفَّىٰis repaid in fullكُلُّeveryنَفْسٍۢsoulمَّاwhatكَسَبَتْit earnedوَهُمْand theyلَا(will) notيُظْلَمُونَbe wronged١٦١

It is not [attributable] to any prophet that he would act unfaithfully [in regard to war booty]. And whoever betrays, [taking unlawfully], will come with what he took on the Day of Resurrection. Then will every soul be [fully] compensated for what it earned, and they will not be wronged.

٣:١٦٢

أَفَمَنِSo is (the one) whoٱتَّبَعَpursuesرِضْوَٰنَ(the) pleasureٱللَّهِ(of) Allahكَمَنۢlike (the one) whoبَآءَdrawsبِسَخَطٍۢon (himself) wrathمِّنَofٱللَّهِAllahوَمَأْوَىٰهُand his abodeجَهَنَّمُ ۚ(is) hellوَبِئْسَand wretchedٱلْمَصِيرُ(is) the destination١٦٢

So is one who pursues the pleasure of Allāh like one who brings upon himself the anger of Allāh and whose refuge is Hell? And wretched is the destination.

٣:١٦٣

هُمْTheyدَرَجَـٰتٌ(are in varying) degreesعِندَnearٱللَّهِ ۗAllahوَٱللَّهُand Allahبَصِيرٌۢ(is) All-Seerبِمَاof whatيَعْمَلُونَthey do١٦٣

They are [varying] degrees in the sight of Allāh, and Allāh is Seeing of whatever they do.

٣:١٦٤

لَقَدْCertainlyمَنَّbestowed a FavorٱللَّهُAllahعَلَىuponٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersإِذْasبَعَثَHe raisedفِيهِمْamong themرَسُولًۭاa Messengerمِّنْfromأَنفُسِهِمْthemselvesيَتْلُوا۟recitingعَلَيْهِمْto themءَايَـٰتِهِۦHis Versesوَيُزَكِّيهِمْand purifying themوَيُعَلِّمُهُمُand teaching themٱلْكِتَـٰبَthe Bookوَٱلْحِكْمَةَand the wisdomوَإِنalthoughكَانُوا۟they wereمِنfromقَبْلُbefore (that)لَفِىcertainly inضَلَـٰلٍۢ(the) errorمُّبِينٍclear١٦٤

Certainly did Allāh confer [great] favor upon the believers when He sent among them a Messenger from themselves, reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] and wisdom, although they had been before in manifest error.

٣:١٦٥

أَوَلَمَّآOr whenأَصَـٰبَتْكُمstruck youمُّصِيبَةٌۭdisasterقَدْsurelyأَصَبْتُمyou (had) struck (them)مِّثْلَيْهَاtwice of itقُلْتُمْyou saidأَنَّىٰFrom whereهَـٰذَا ۖ(is) thisقُلْSayهُوَItمِنْ(is)عِندِfromأَنفُسِكُمْ ۗyourselvesإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahعَلَىٰ(is) onكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍۢthingقَدِيرٌۭAll-Powerful١٦٥

Why [is it that] when a [single] disaster struck you [on the day of Uḥud], although you had struck [the enemy in the battle of Badr] with one twice as great, you said, "From where is this?" Say, "It is from yourselves [i.e., due to your sin]." Indeed, Allāh is over all things competent.

٣:١٦٦

وَمَآAnd whatأَصَـٰبَكُمْstruck youيَوْمَ(on the) dayٱلْتَقَى(when) metٱلْجَمْعَانِthe two hostsفَبِإِذْنِ(was) by (the) permissionٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَلِيَعْلَمَand that He (might) make evidentٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believers١٦٦

And what struck you on the day the two armies met [at Uḥud] was by permission of Allāh that He might make evident the [true] believers

٣:١٦٧

وَلِيَعْلَمَAnd that He (might) make evidentٱلَّذِينَthose whoنَافَقُوا۟ ۚ(are) hypocritesوَقِيلَAnd it was saidلَهُمْto themتَعَالَوْا۟Comeقَـٰتِلُوا۟fightفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahأَوِorٱدْفَعُوا۟ ۖdefendقَالُوا۟They saidلَوْIfنَعْلَمُwe knewقِتَالًۭاfightingلَّٱتَّبَعْنَـٰكُمْ ۗcertainly we (would have) followed youهُمْThey لِلْكُفْرِto disbeliefيَوْمَئِذٍthat dayأَقْرَبُ(were) nearerمِنْهُمْthan [them]لِلْإِيمَـٰنِ ۚto the faithيَقُولُونَsayingبِأَفْوَٰهِهِمwith their mouthsمَّاwhatلَيْسَwas notفِىinقُلُوبِهِمْ ۗtheir heartsوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahأَعْلَمُ(is) Most Knowingبِمَاof whatيَكْتُمُونَthey conceal١٦٧

And that He might make evident those who are hypocrites. For it was said to them, "Come, fight in the way of Allāh or [at least] defend." They said, "If we had known [there would be] battle, we would have followed you." They were nearer to disbelief that day than to faith, saying with their mouths what was not in their hearts. And Allāh is most knowing of what they conceal -

٣:١٦٨

ٱلَّذِينَThose whoقَالُوا۟saidلِإِخْوَٰنِهِمْabout their brothersوَقَعَدُوا۟while they satلَوْIfأَطَاعُونَاthey (had) obeyed usمَاnotقُتِلُوا۟ ۗthey would have been killedقُلْSayفَٱدْرَءُوا۟Then avertعَنْfromأَنفُسِكُمُyourselvesٱلْمَوْتَ[the] deathإِنifكُنتُمْyou areصَـٰدِقِينَtruthful١٦٨

Those who said about their brothers while sitting [at home], "If they had obeyed us, they would not have been killed." Say, "Then prevent death from yourselves, if you should be truthful."

٣:١٦٩

وَلَاAnd (do) notتَحْسَبَنَّthinkٱلَّذِينَ(of) those whoقُتِلُوا۟are killedفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahأَمْوَٰتًۢا ۚ(as) deadبَلْNayأَحْيَآءٌThey are aliveعِندَnearرَبِّهِمْtheir Lordيُرْزَقُونَthey are given provision١٦٩

And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allāh as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision,

٣:١٧٠

فَرِحِينَRejoicingبِمَآin whatءَاتَىٰهُمُbestowed themٱللَّهُAllahمِنofفَضْلِهِۦHis Bountyوَيَسْتَبْشِرُونَand they receive good tidingsبِٱلَّذِينَabout those whoلَمْ(have) notيَلْحَقُوا۟yet joinedبِهِم[with] themمِّنْ[from]خَلْفِهِمْ(but are) left behind أَلَّاthat (there will be) noخَوْفٌfearعَلَيْهِمْon themوَلَاand notهُمْtheyيَحْزَنُونَwill grieve١٧٠

Rejoicing in what Allāh has bestowed upon them of His bounty, and they receive good tidings about those [to be martyred] after them who have not yet joined them - that there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.

٣:١٧١

۞ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَThey receive good tidingsبِنِعْمَةٍۢof FavorمِّنَfromٱللَّهِAllahوَفَضْلٍۢand Bountyوَأَنَّand thatٱللَّهَAllahلَا(does) notيُضِيعُlet go wasteأَجْرَ(the) rewardٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ(of) the believers١٧١

They receive good tidings of favor from Allāh and bounty and [of the fact] that Allāh does not allow the reward of believers to be lost -

٣:١٧٢

ٱلَّذِينَThose whoٱسْتَجَابُوا۟respondedلِلَّهِto Allahوَٱلرَّسُولِand the Messengerمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterمَآwhatأَصَابَهُمُbefell them ٱلْقَرْحُ ۚthe injury لِلَّذِينَfor those whoأَحْسَنُوا۟did goodمِنْهُمْamong themوَٱتَّقَوْا۟and feared Allahأَجْرٌ(is) a reward عَظِيمٌgreat١٧٢

Those [believers] who responded to Allāh and the Messenger after injury had struck them. For those who did good among them and feared Allāh is a great reward -

٣:١٧٣

ٱلَّذِينَThose whoقَالَsaidلَهُمُto themٱلنَّاسُ[the people]إِنَّIndeedٱلنَّاسَthe peopleقَدْ(have) certainlyجَمَعُوا۟gatheredلَكُمْagainst youفَٱخْشَوْهُمْso fear themفَزَادَهُمْBut it increased themإِيمَـٰنًۭا(in) faithوَقَالُوا۟and they saidحَسْبُنَاSufficient for usٱللَّهُ(is) Allahوَنِعْمَand (He is the) bestٱلْوَكِيلُ[the] Disposer of affairs١٧٣

Those to whom people [i.e., hypocrites] said, "Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them." But it [merely] increased them in faith, and they said, "Sufficient for us is Allāh, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs."1

٣:١٧٤

فَٱنقَلَبُوا۟So they returnedبِنِعْمَةٍۢwith (the) FavorمِّنَofٱللَّهِAllahوَفَضْلٍۢand Bountyلَّمْnotيَمْسَسْهُمْtouched themسُوٓءٌۭany harmوَٱتَّبَعُوا۟And they followedرِضْوَٰنَ(the) pleasureٱللَّهِ ۗ(of) Allahوَٱللَّهُand Allahذُو(is) Possessorفَضْلٍ(of) Bountyعَظِيمٍgreat١٧٤

So they returned with favor from Allāh and bounty, no harm having touched them. And they pursued the pleasure of Allāh, and Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.

٣:١٧٥

إِنَّمَا(It is) onlyذَٰلِكُمُthatٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُthe Shaitaanيُخَوِّفُfrightens (you)أَوْلِيَآءَهُۥ(of) his alliesفَلَاSo (do) notتَخَافُوهُمْfear themوَخَافُونِbut fear Meإِنifكُنتُمyou areمُّؤْمِنِينَbelievers١٧٥

That is only Satan who frightens [you] of his supporters. So fear them not, but fear Me, if you are [indeed] believers.

٣:١٧٦

وَلَاAnd (let) notيَحْزُنكَgrieve youٱلَّذِينَthose whoيُسَـٰرِعُونَhastenفِىin(to)ٱلْكُفْرِ ۚ[the] disbeliefإِنَّهُمْIndeed, theyلَنneverيَضُرُّوا۟will harmٱللَّهَAllahشَيْـًۭٔا ۗ(in) anythingيُرِيدُintendsٱللَّهُAllahأَلَّاthat notيَجْعَلَHe will setلَهُمْfor themحَظًّۭاany portionفِىinٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۖthe HereafterوَلَهُمْAnd for themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentعَظِيمٌgreat١٧٦

And do not be grieved, [O Muḥammad], by those who hasten into disbelief. Indeed, they will never harm Allāh at all. Allāh intends that He should give them no share in the Hereafter, and for them is a great punishment.

٣:١٧٧

إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoٱشْتَرَوُا۟(have) purchasedٱلْكُفْرَ[the] disbeliefبِٱلْإِيمَـٰنِwith the faithلَنneverيَضُرُّوا۟will they harmٱللَّهَAllahشَيْـًۭٔا(in) anythingوَلَهُمْand for themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentأَلِيمٌۭpainful١٧٧

Indeed, those who purchase disbelief [in exchange] for faith - never will they harm Allāh at all, and for them is a painful punishment.

٣:١٧٨

وَلَاAnd (let) notيَحْسَبَنَّthinkٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوٓا۟disbelievedأَنَّمَاthatنُمْلِىWe give respiteلَهُمْto themخَيْرٌۭ(is) goodلِّأَنفُسِهِمْ ۚfor themselvesإِنَّمَاOnlyنُمْلِىWe give respiteلَهُمْto themلِيَزْدَادُوٓا۟so that they may increaseإِثْمًۭا ۚ(in) sinsوَلَهُمْand for themعَذَابٌۭ(is) a punishmentمُّهِينٌۭhumiliating١٧٨

And let not those who disbelieve ever think that [because] We extend their time [of enjoyment] it is better for them. We only extend it for them so that they may increase in sin, and for them is a humiliating punishment.

٣:١٧٩

مَّاNotكَانَisٱللَّهُAllahلِيَذَرَto leaveٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersعَلَىٰonمَآwhatأَنتُمْyou (are)عَلَيْهِin [it]حَتَّىٰuntilيَمِيزَHe separatesٱلْخَبِيثَthe evilمِنَfromٱلطَّيِّبِ ۗthe goodوَمَاAnd notكَانَisٱللَّهُAllahلِيُطْلِعَكُمْto inform youعَلَىaboutٱلْغَيْبِthe unseenوَلَـٰكِنَّ[and] butٱللَّهَAllahيَجْتَبِىchoosesمِنfromرُّسُلِهِۦHis Messengersمَنwhomيَشَآءُ ۖHe willsفَـَٔامِنُوا۟so believeبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَرُسُلِهِۦ ۚand His Messengersوَإِنand ifتُؤْمِنُوا۟you believeوَتَتَّقُوا۟and fear (Allah)فَلَكُمْthen for youأَجْرٌ(is a) rewardعَظِيمٌۭgreat١٧٩

Allāh would not leave the believers in that [state] you are in [presently] until He separates the evil from the good. Nor would Allāh reveal to you the unseen. But [instead], Allāh chooses of His messengers whom He wills, so believe in Allāh and His messengers. And if you believe and fear Him, then for you is a great reward.

٣:١٨٠

وَلَاAnd (let) notيَحْسَبَنَّthinkٱلَّذِينَthose whoيَبْخَلُونَwithholdبِمَآof whatءَاتَىٰهُمُ(has) given themٱللَّهُAllahمِنofفَضْلِهِۦHis Bountyهُوَ(that) itخَيْرًۭا(is) goodلَّهُم ۖfor themبَلْNayهُوَitشَرٌّۭ(is) badلَّهُمْ ۖfor themسَيُطَوَّقُونَTheir necks will be encircledمَا(with) whatبَخِلُوا۟they withheldبِهِۦ[with it]يَوْمَ(on the) Dayٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۗ(of) [the] ResurrectionوَلِلَّهِAnd for Allahمِيرَٰثُ(is the) heritageٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗand the earthوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahبِمَاwith whatتَعْمَلُونَyou doخَبِيرٌۭ(is) All-Aware١٨٠

And let not those who [greedily] withhold what Allāh has given them of His bounty ever think that it is better for them. Rather, it is worse for them. Their necks will be encircled by what they withheld on the Day of Resurrection. And to Allāh belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth. And Allāh, of what you do, is [fully] Aware.

٣:١٨١

لَّقَدْCertainlyسَمِعَheardٱللَّهُAllahقَوْلَ(the) sayingٱلَّذِينَ(of) those whoقَالُوٓا۟saidإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahفَقِيرٌۭ(is) poorوَنَحْنُwhile weأَغْنِيَآءُ ۘ(are) richسَنَكْتُبُWe will recordمَاwhatقَالُوا۟they saidوَقَتْلَهُمُand their killingٱلْأَنۢبِيَآءَthe Prophetsبِغَيْرِwithoutحَقٍّۢ(any) rightوَنَقُولُand We will sayذُوقُوا۟Tasteعَذَابَ(the) punishmentٱلْحَرِيقِ(of) the Burning Fire١٨١

Allāh has certainly heard the statement of those [Jews] who said, "Indeed, Allāh is poor, while we are rich." We will record what they said and their killing of the prophets without right and will say, "Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire.

٣:١٨٢

ذَٰلِكَThatبِمَا(is) becauseقَدَّمَتْ(of what) sent forthأَيْدِيكُمْyour handsوَأَنَّand thatٱللَّهَAllahلَيْسَis notبِظَلَّامٍۢunjustلِّلْعَبِيدِto (His) slaves١٨٢

That is for what your hands have put forth and because Allāh is not ever unjust to [His] servants."

٣:١٨٣

ٱلَّذِينَThose whoقَالُوٓا۟saidإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahعَهِدَ(has) taken promiseإِلَيْنَآfrom usأَلَّاthat notنُؤْمِنَwe (should) believeلِرَسُولٍin a Messengerحَتَّىٰuntilيَأْتِيَنَاhe brings to usبِقُرْبَانٍۢa sacrifice تَأْكُلُهُconsumes itٱلنَّارُ ۗthe fireقُلْSayقَدْSurelyجَآءَكُمْcame to youرُسُلٌۭMessengersمِّنfromقَبْلِىbefore meبِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِwith the clear Signsوَبِٱلَّذِىand with whatقُلْتُمْyou speakفَلِمَSo whyقَتَلْتُمُوهُمْyou killed themإِنifكُنتُمْyou areصَـٰدِقِينَtruthful١٨٣

[They are] those who said, "Indeed, Allāh has taken our promise not to believe any messenger until he brings us an offering which fire [from heaven] will consume." Say, "There have already come to you messengers before me with clear proofs and [even] that of which you speak. So why did you kill them, if you should be truthful?"

٣:١٨٤

فَإِنThen ifكَذَّبُوكَthey reject youفَقَدْthen certainlyكُذِّبَwere rejectedرُسُلٌۭMessengersمِّنfromقَبْلِكَbefore youجَآءُو(who) cameبِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِwith the clear Signsوَٱلزُّبُرِand the Scripturesوَٱلْكِتَـٰبِand the Book ٱلْمُنِيرِ[the] Enlightening١٨٤

Then if they deny you, [O Muḥammad] - so were messengers denied before you, who brought clear proofs and written ordinances and the enlightening Scripture.

٣:١٨٥

كُلُّEveryنَفْسٍۢsoulذَآئِقَةُ(will) tasteٱلْمَوْتِ ۗ[the] deathوَإِنَّمَاand onlyتُوَفَّوْنَyou will be paid in fullأُجُورَكُمْyour rewardيَوْمَ(on the) Dayٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۖ(of) [the] ResurrectionفَمَنThen whoeverزُحْزِحَis drawn awayعَنِfromٱلنَّارِthe Fireوَأُدْخِلَand admittedٱلْجَنَّةَ(to) Paradiseفَقَدْthen surelyفَازَ ۗhe is successfulوَمَاAnd notٱلْحَيَوٰةُ(is) the lifeٱلدُّنْيَآ(of) the worldإِلَّاexceptمَتَـٰعُenjoymentٱلْغُرُورِ(of) delusion١٨٥

Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained [his desire]. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion.

٣:١٨٦

۞ لَتُبْلَوُنَّYou will certainly be testedفِىٓinأَمْوَٰلِكُمْyour wealthوَأَنفُسِكُمْand yourselvesوَلَتَسْمَعُنَّAnd you will certainly hearمِنَfromٱلَّذِينَthose whoأُوتُوا۟were givenٱلْكِتَـٰبَthe Bookمِنfromقَبْلِكُمْbefore youوَمِنَand fromٱلَّذِينَthose whoأَشْرَكُوٓا۟associate partners with Allah أَذًۭىhurtful thingsكَثِيرًۭا ۚmanyوَإِنand ifتَصْبِرُوا۟you are patientوَتَتَّقُوا۟and fear (Allah)فَإِنَّthen indeedذَٰلِكَthatمِنْ(is) ofعَزْمِthe mattersٱلْأُمُورِ(of) determination١٨٦

You will surely be tested in your possessions and in yourselves. And you will surely hear from those who were given the Scripture before you and from those who associate others with Allāh much abuse. But if you are patient and fear Allāh - indeed, that is of the matters [worthy] of resolve.

٣:١٨٧

وَإِذْAnd whenأَخَذَtookٱللَّهُAllahمِيثَـٰقَa Covenantٱلَّذِينَ(from) those whoأُوتُوا۟were givenٱلْكِتَـٰبَthe BookلَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُۥYou certainly make it clearلِلنَّاسِto the mankindوَلَاand (do) notتَكْتُمُونَهُۥconceal itفَنَبَذُوهُThen they threw itوَرَآءَbehindظُهُورِهِمْtheir backsوَٱشْتَرَوْا۟and they exchangedبِهِۦ[with] itثَمَنًۭا(for) a priceقَلِيلًۭا ۖlittleفَبِئْسَAnd wretchedمَا(is) whatيَشْتَرُونَthey purchase١٨٧

And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Allāh took a covenant from those who were given the Scripture, [saying], "You must make it clear [i.e., explain it] to the people and not conceal it." But they threw it away behind their backs and exchanged it for a small price. And wretched is that which they purchased.

٣:١٨٨

لَا(Do) notتَحْسَبَنَّthinkٱلَّذِينَ(that) those whoيَفْرَحُونَrejoiceبِمَآin whatأَتَوا۟(they have) broughtوَّيُحِبُّونَand they loveأَنthatيُحْمَدُوا۟they be praisedبِمَاfor whatلَمْnotيَفْعَلُوا۟they do فَلَاso (do) notتَحْسَبَنَّهُمthink (that) theyبِمَفَازَةٍۢ(will) escapeمِّنَfromٱلْعَذَابِ ۖthe punishmentوَلَهُمْand for themعَذَابٌ(is a) punishmentأَلِيمٌۭpainful١٨٨

And never think that those who rejoice in what they have perpetrated and like to be praised for what they did not do - never think them [to be] in safety from the punishment, and for them is a painful punishment.

٣:١٨٩

وَلِلَّهِAnd for Allahمُلْكُ(is the) dominionٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗand the earthوَٱللَّهُand Allahعَلَىٰ(is) onكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍۢthingقَدِيرٌAll-Powerful١٨٩

And to Allāh belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and Allāh is over all things competent.

٣:١٩٠

إِنَّIndeedفِىinخَلْقِ(the) creationٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthوَٱخْتِلَـٰفِand (in the) alternationٱلَّيْلِ(of) the nightوَٱلنَّهَارِand the dayلَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ(are) surely Signsلِّأُو۟لِىfor menٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ(of) understanding١٩٠

Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding -

٣:١٩١

ٱلَّذِينَThose whoيَذْكُرُونَrememberٱللَّهَAllahقِيَـٰمًۭاstandingوَقُعُودًۭاand sittingوَعَلَىٰand onجُنُوبِهِمْtheir sidesوَيَتَفَكَّرُونَand they reflectفِىonخَلْقِ(the) creationٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthرَبَّنَاOur LordمَاnotخَلَقْتَYou have createdهَـٰذَاthisبَـٰطِلًۭا(in) vainسُبْحَـٰنَكَGlory be to Youفَقِنَاso save usعَذَابَ(from the) punishmentٱلنَّارِ(of) the Fire١٩١

Who remember Allāh while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], "Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

٣:١٩٢

رَبَّنَآOur Lordإِنَّكَindeed [You]مَنwhomتُدْخِلِYou admitٱلنَّارَ(to) the Fireفَقَدْthen surelyأَخْزَيْتَهُۥ ۖYou (have) disgraced himوَمَاand notلِلظَّـٰلِمِينَfor the wrongdoersمِنْ(are) anyأَنصَارٍۢhelpers١٩٢

Our Lord, indeed whoever You admit to the Fire - You have disgraced him, and for the wrongdoers there are no helpers.

٣:١٩٣

رَّبَّنَآOur Lordإِنَّنَاindeed weسَمِعْنَا[we] heardمُنَادِيًۭاa callerيُنَادِىcallingلِلْإِيمَـٰنِto the faithأَنْthatءَامِنُوا۟Believeبِرَبِّكُمْin your Lordفَـَٔامَنَّا ۚso we have believedرَبَّنَاOur Lordفَٱغْفِرْso forgiveلَنَاfor usذُنُوبَنَاour sinsوَكَفِّرْand removeعَنَّاfrom usسَيِّـَٔاتِنَاour evil deedsوَتَوَفَّنَاand cause us to dieمَعَwithٱلْأَبْرَارِthe righteous١٩٣

Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] calling to faith, [saying], 'Believe in your Lord,' and we have believed. Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die among the righteous.

٣:١٩٤

رَبَّنَاOur Lordوَءَاتِنَاgrant usمَاwhatوَعَدتَّنَاYou promised usعَلَىٰthroughرُسُلِكَYour Messengersوَلَاand (do) notتُخْزِنَاdisgrace usيَوْمَ(on the) Dayٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۗ(of) [the] ResurrectionإِنَّكَIndeed, Youلَا(do) notتُخْلِفُbreakٱلْمِيعَادَthe promise١٩٤

Our Lord, and grant us what You promised us through Your messengers and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You do not fail in [Your] promise."

٣:١٩٥

فَٱسْتَجَابَThen respondedلَهُمْto themرَبُّهُمْtheir LordأَنِّىIndeed, Iلَآ(will) notأُضِيعُ(let go) wasteعَمَلَdeedsعَـٰمِلٍۢ(of the) doerمِّنكُمamong youمِّن[from]ذَكَرٍ(whether) maleأَوْorأُنثَىٰ ۖfemaleبَعْضُكُمeach of youمِّنۢfromبَعْضٍۢ ۖ(the) otherفَٱلَّذِينَSo those whoهَاجَرُوا۟emigratedوَأُخْرِجُوا۟and were driven outمِنfromدِيَـٰرِهِمْtheir homesوَأُوذُوا۟and were harmedفِىinسَبِيلِىMy wayوَقَـٰتَلُوا۟and foughtوَقُتِلُوا۟and were killed لَأُكَفِّرَنَّsurely I (will) removeعَنْهُمْfrom themسَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْtheir evil deedsوَلَأُدْخِلَنَّهُمْand surely I will admit themجَنَّـٰتٍۢ(to) Gardensتَجْرِىflowingمِنfromتَحْتِهَاunderneath themٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُthe rivers ثَوَابًۭاa rewardمِّنْfromعِندِ[near]ٱللَّهِ ۗAllahوَٱللَّهُAnd Allah عِندَهُۥwith Himحُسْنُ(is the) bestٱلثَّوَابِreward١٩٥

And their Lord responded to them, "Never will I allow to be lost the work of [any] worker among you, whether male or female; you are of one another. So those who emigrated or were evicted from their homes or were harmed in My cause or fought or were killed - I will surely remove from them their misdeeds, and I will surely admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow as reward from Allāh, and Allāh has with Him the best reward."

٣:١٩٦

لَا(Let) notيَغُرَّنَّكَdeceive youتَقَلُّبُ(the) movementٱلَّذِينَ(of) those whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelievedفِىinٱلْبِلَـٰدِthe land١٩٦

Be not deceived by the [uninhibited] movement of the disbelievers throughout the land.

٣:١٩٧

مَتَـٰعٌۭAn enjoymentقَلِيلٌۭlittleثُمَّthenمَأْوَىٰهُمْtheir abodeجَهَنَّمُ ۚ(is) hell وَبِئْسَ[and] a wretchedٱلْمِهَادُ[the] resting place١٩٧

[It is but] a small enjoyment; then their [final] refuge is Hell, and wretched is the resting place.

٣:١٩٨

لَـٰكِنِButٱلَّذِينَthose whoٱتَّقَوْا۟fearرَبَّهُمْtheir Lordلَهُمْfor themجَنَّـٰتٌۭ(will be) Gardensتَجْرِىflowsمِنfromتَحْتِهَاunderneath themٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُthe riversخَـٰلِدِينَwill abide foreverفِيهَاin it نُزُلًۭاa hospitalityمِّنْfromعِندِ[near]ٱللَّهِ ۗAllahوَمَاAnd whatعِندَ(is) withٱللَّهِAllahخَيْرٌۭ(is) bestلِّلْأَبْرَارِfor the righteous١٩٨

But those who feared their Lord will have gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein, as accommodation from Allāh. And that which is with Allāh is best for the righteous.

٣:١٩٩

وَإِنَّAnd indeedمِنْamongأَهْلِ(the) Peopleٱلْكِتَـٰبِ(of) the Bookلَمَن(are those) whoيُؤْمِنُbelieveبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَمَآand whatأُنزِلَwas revealedإِلَيْكُمْto youوَمَآand whatأُنزِلَwas revealedإِلَيْهِمْto them خَـٰشِعِينَhumbly submissiveلِلَّهِto AllahلَاNotيَشْتَرُونَ(do) they exchangeبِـَٔايَـٰتِ[with] (the) Versesٱللَّهِ(of) Allahثَمَنًۭا(for) a priceقَلِيلًا ۗlittleأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَThoseلَهُمْfor themأَجْرُهُمْtheir rewardعِندَ(is) withرَبِّهِمْ ۗtheir LordإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahسَرِيعُ(is) swiftٱلْحِسَابِ(in taking) the account١٩٩

And indeed, among the People of the Scripture are those who believe in Allāh and what was revealed to you and what was revealed to them, [being] humbly submissive to Allāh. They do not exchange the verses of Allāh for a small price. Those will have their reward with their Lord. Indeed, Allāh is swift in account.

٣:٢٠٠

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]ٱصْبِرُوا۟Be steadfastوَصَابِرُوا۟and [be] patientوَرَابِطُوا۟and [be] constantوَٱتَّقُوا۟and fearٱللَّهَAllahلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتُفْلِحُونَ(be) successful٢٠٠

O you who have believed, persevere and endure and remain stationed and fear Allāh that you may be successful.
