Bismillah
بِسْمِ In (the) name bis'mi
In (the) name ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
3:1
الٓمٓ Alif Laam Meem alif-lam-meem
Alif Laam Meem ١ (1)
(1)
Alif, Lām, Meem.
3:2
ٱللَّهُ Allah al-lahu
Allah لَآ (there is) no lā
(there is) no إِلَـٰهَ God ilāha
God إِلَّا except illā
except هُوَ Him huwa
Him ٱلْحَىُّ the Ever-Living l-ḥayu
the Ever-Living ٱلْقَيُّومُ the Sustainer of all that exists l-qayūmu
the Sustainer of all that exists ٢ (2)
(2)
Allāh - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining.
3:3
نَزَّلَ He revealed nazzala
He revealed عَلَيْكَ to you ʿalayka
to you ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book l-kitāba
the Book بِٱلْحَقِّ in [the] truth bil-ḥaqi
in [the] truth مُصَدِّقًۭا confirming muṣaddiqan
confirming لِّمَا that which limā
that which بَيْنَ (was) bayna
(was) يَدَيْهِ before it yadayhi
before it وَأَنزَلَ and He revealed wa-anzala
and He revealed ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ the Taurat l-tawrāta
the Taurat وَٱلْإِنجِيلَ and the Injeel wal-injīla
and the Injeel ٣ (3)
(3)
He has sent down upon you, [O Muḥammad], the Book in truth, confirming what was before it. And He revealed the Torah and the Gospel
3:4
مِن From min
From قَبْلُ before (this) qablu
before (this) هُدًۭى (as) guidance hudan
(as) guidance لِّلنَّاسِ for the mankind lilnnāsi
for the mankind وَأَنزَلَ And (He) revealed wa-anzala
And (He) revealed ٱلْفُرْقَانَ ۗ the Criterion l-fur'qāna
the Criterion إِنَّ Verily inna
Verily ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve[d] kafarū
disbelieve[d] بِـَٔايَـٰتِ in (the) Verses biāyāti
in (the) Verses ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them عَذَابٌۭ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment شَدِيدٌۭ ۗ severe shadīdun
severe وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah عَزِيزٌۭ (is) All-Mighty ʿazīzun
(is) All-Mighty ذُو All-Able dhū
All-Able ٱنتِقَامٍ (of) retribution intiqāmin
(of) retribution ٤ (4)
(4)
Before, as guidance for the people. And He revealed the Criterion [i.e., the Qur’ān]. Indeed, those who disbelieve in the verses of Allāh will have a severe punishment, and Allāh is Exalted in Might, the Owner of Retribution.
3:5
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah لَا not lā
not يَخْفَىٰ is hidden yakhfā
is hidden عَلَيْهِ from Him ʿalayhi
from Him شَىْءٌۭ anything shayon
anything فِى in fī
in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth وَلَا and not walā
and not فِى in fī
in ٱلسَّمَآءِ the heaven l-samāi
the heaven ٥ (5)
(5)
Indeed, from Allāh nothing is hidden in the earth nor in the heaven.
3:6
هُوَ He huwa
He ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who alladhī
(is) the One Who يُصَوِّرُكُمْ shapes you yuṣawwirukum
shapes you فِى in fī
in ٱلْأَرْحَامِ the wombs l-arḥāmi
the wombs كَيْفَ how(ever) kayfa
how(ever) يَشَآءُ ۚ He wills yashāu
He wills لَآ (There is) no lā
(There is) no إِلَـٰهَ god ilāha
god إِلَّا except illā
except هُوَ Him huwa
Him ٱلْعَزِيزُ the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzu
the All-Mighty ٱلْحَكِيمُ the All-Wise l-ḥakīmu
the All-Wise ٦ (6)
(6)
It is He who forms you in the wombs however He wills. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
3:7
هُوَ He huwa
He ٱلَّذِىٓ (is) the One Who alladhī
(is) the One Who أَنزَلَ revealed anzala
revealed عَلَيْكَ to you ʿalayka
to you ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book l-kitāba
the Book مِنْهُ of it min'hu
of it ءَايَـٰتٌۭ (are) Verses āyātun
(are) Verses مُّحْكَمَـٰتٌ absolutely clear muḥ'kamātun
absolutely clear هُنَّ they (are) hunna
they (are) أُمُّ the foundation ummu
the foundation ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book وَأُخَرُ and others wa-ukharu
and others مُتَشَـٰبِهَـٰتٌۭ ۖ (are) allegorical mutashābihātun
(are) allegorical فَأَمَّا Then as for fa-ammā
Then as for ٱلَّذِينَ those alladhīna
those فِى in fī
in قُلُوبِهِمْ their hearts qulūbihim
their hearts زَيْغٌۭ (is) perversity zayghun
(is) perversity فَيَتَّبِعُونَ [so] they follow fayattabiʿūna
[so] they follow مَا what mā
what تَشَـٰبَهَ (is) allegorical tashābaha
(is) allegorical مِنْهُ of it min'hu
of it ٱبْتِغَآءَ seeking ib'tighāa
seeking ٱلْفِتْنَةِ [the] discord l-fit'nati
[the] discord وَٱبْتِغَآءَ and seeking wa-ib'tighāa
and seeking تَأْوِيلِهِۦ ۗ its interpretation tawīlihi
its interpretation وَمَا And not wamā
And not يَعْلَمُ knows yaʿlamu
knows تَأْوِيلَهُۥٓ its interpretation tawīlahu
its interpretation إِلَّا except illā
except ٱللَّهُ ۗ Allah l-lahu
Allah وَٱلرَّٰسِخُونَ And those firm wal-rāsikhūna
And those firm فِى in fī
in ٱلْعِلْمِ [the] knowledge l-ʿil'mi
[the] knowledge يَقُولُونَ they say yaqūlūna
they say ءَامَنَّا We believe āmannā
We believe بِهِۦ in it bihi
in it كُلٌّۭ All kullun
All مِّنْ (is) min
(is) عِندِ from ʿindi
from رَبِّنَا ۗ our Lord rabbinā
our Lord وَمَا And not wamā
And not يَذَّكَّرُ will take heed yadhakkaru
will take heed إِلَّآ except illā
except أُو۟لُوا۟ men ulū
men ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ (of) understanding l-albābi
(of) understanding ٧ (7)
(7)
It is He who has sent down to you, [O Muḥammad], the Book; in it are verses [that are] precise - they are the foundation of the Book - and others unspecific. As for those in whose hearts is deviation [from truth], they will follow that of it which is unspecific, seeking discord and seeking an interpretation [suitable to them]. And no one knows its [true] interpretation except Allāh. But those firm in knowledge say, "We believe in it. All [of it] is from our Lord." And no one will be reminded except those of understanding.
3:8
رَبَّنَا Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord لَا (Do) not lā
(Do) not تُزِغْ deviate tuzigh
deviate قُلُوبَنَا our hearts qulūbanā
our hearts بَعْدَ after baʿda
after إِذْ [when] idh
[when] هَدَيْتَنَا You (have) guided us hadaytanā
You (have) guided us وَهَبْ and grant wahab
and grant لَنَا (for) us lanā
(for) us مِن from min
from لَّدُنكَ Yourself ladunka
Yourself رَحْمَةً ۚ mercy raḥmatan
mercy إِنَّكَ Indeed You innaka
Indeed You أَنتَ You anta
You ٱلْوَهَّابُ (are) the Bestower l-wahābu
(are) the Bestower ٨ (8)
(8)
[Who say], "Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.
3:9
رَبَّنَآ Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord إِنَّكَ Indeed, You innaka
Indeed, You جَامِعُ will gather jāmiʿu
will gather ٱلنَّاسِ [the] mankind l-nāsi
[the] mankind لِيَوْمٍۢ on a Day liyawmin
on a Day لَّا (there is) no lā
(there is) no رَيْبَ doubt rayba
doubt فِيهِ ۚ in it fīhi
in it إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah لَا (does) not lā
(does) not يُخْلِفُ break yukh'lifu
break ٱلْمِيعَادَ the Promise l-mīʿāda
the Promise ٩ (9)
(9)
Our Lord, surely You will gather the people for a Day about which there is no doubt. Indeed, Allāh does not fail in His promise."
3:10
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve[d] kafarū
disbelieve[d] لَن never lan
never تُغْنِىَ will avail tugh'niya
will avail عَنْهُمْ [for] them ʿanhum
[for] them أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ their wealth amwāluhum
their wealth وَلَآ and not walā
and not أَوْلَـٰدُهُم their children awlāduhum
their children مِّنَ against mina
against ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah شَيْـًۭٔا ۖ anything shayan
anything وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ and those wa-ulāika
and those هُمْ they (are) hum
they (are) وَقُودُ (the) fuel waqūdu
(the) fuel ٱلنَّارِ (for) the Fire l-nāri
(for) the Fire ١٠ (10)
(10)
Indeed, those who disbelieve - never will their wealth or their children avail them against Allāh at all. And it is they who are fuel for the Fire.
3:11
كَدَأْبِ Like behavior kadabi
Like behavior ءَالِ (of the) people āli
(of the) people فِرْعَوْنَ (of) Firaun fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun وَٱلَّذِينَ and those who wa-alladhīna
and those who مِن (were) from min
(were) from قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ before them qablihim
before them كَذَّبُوا۟ They denied kadhabū
They denied بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا Our Signs biāyātinā
Our Signs فَأَخَذَهُمُ so seized them fa-akhadhahumu
so seized them ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah بِذُنُوبِهِمْ ۗ for their sins bidhunūbihim
for their sins وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah شَدِيدُ (is) severe shadīdu
(is) severe ٱلْعِقَابِ (in) [the] punishment l-ʿiqābi
(in) [the] punishment ١١ (11)
(11)
[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and those before them. They denied Our signs, so Allāh seized them for their sins. And Allāh is severe in penalty.
3:12
قُل Say qul
Say لِّلَّذِينَ to those who lilladhīna
to those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve[d] kafarū
disbelieve[d] سَتُغْلَبُونَ You will be overcome satugh'labūna
You will be overcome وَتُحْشَرُونَ and you will be gathered watuḥ'sharūna
and you will be gathered إِلَىٰ to ilā
to جَهَنَّمَ ۚ Hell jahannama
Hell وَبِئْسَ [and] an evil wabi'sa
[and] an evil ٱلْمِهَادُ [the] resting place l-mihādu
[the] resting place ١٢ (12)
(12)
Say to those who disbelieve, "You will be overcome and gathered together to Hell, and wretched is the resting place."
3:13
قَدْ Surely qad
Surely كَانَ it was kāna
it was لَكُمْ for you lakum
for you ءَايَةٌۭ a sign āyatun
a sign فِى in fī
in فِئَتَيْنِ (the) two hosts fi-atayni
(the) two hosts ٱلْتَقَتَا ۖ which met l-taqatā
which met فِئَةٌۭ one group fi-atun
one group تُقَـٰتِلُ fighting tuqātilu
fighting فِى in fī
in سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah وَأُخْرَىٰ and another wa-ukh'rā
and another كَافِرَةٌۭ disbelievers kāfiratun
disbelievers يَرَوْنَهُم They were seeing them yarawnahum
They were seeing them مِّثْلَيْهِمْ twice of them mith'layhim
twice of them رَأْىَ with the sight raya
with the sight ٱلْعَيْنِ ۚ (of) their eyes l-ʿayni
(of) their eyes وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah يُؤَيِّدُ supports yu-ayyidu
supports بِنَصْرِهِۦ with His help binaṣrihi
with His help مَن whom man
whom يَشَآءُ ۗ He wills yashāu
He wills إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed فِى in fī
in ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that لَعِبْرَةًۭ surely (is) a lesson laʿib'ratan
surely (is) a lesson لِّأُو۟لِى for the owners li-ulī
for the owners ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ (of) vision l-abṣāri
(of) vision ١٣ (13)
(13)
Already there has been for you a sign in the two armies which met [in combat at Badr] - one fighting in the cause of Allāh and another of disbelievers. They saw them [to be] twice their [own] number by [their] eyesight. But Allāh supports with His victory whom He wills. Indeed in that is a lesson for those of vision.
3:14
زُيِّنَ Beautified zuyyina
Beautified لِلنَّاسِ for mankind lilnnāsi
for mankind حُبُّ (is) love ḥubbu
(is) love ٱلشَّهَوَٰتِ (of) the (things they) desire l-shahawāti
(of) the (things they) desire مِنَ of mina
of ٱلنِّسَآءِ [the] women l-nisāi
[the] women وَٱلْبَنِينَ and [the] sons wal-banīna
and [the] sons وَٱلْقَنَـٰطِيرِ and [the] heaps wal-qanāṭīri
and [the] heaps ٱلْمُقَنطَرَةِ [the] stored up l-muqanṭarati
[the] stored up مِنَ of mina
of ٱلذَّهَبِ [the] gold l-dhahabi
[the] gold وَٱلْفِضَّةِ and [the] silver wal-fiḍati
and [the] silver وَٱلْخَيْلِ and [the] horses wal-khayli
and [the] horses ٱلْمُسَوَّمَةِ [the] branded l-musawamati
[the] branded وَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ and [the] cattle wal-anʿāmi
and [the] cattle وَٱلْحَرْثِ ۗ and [the] tilled land wal-ḥarthi
and [the] tilled land ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That مَتَـٰعُ (is) provision matāʿu
(is) provision ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ (of) life l-ḥayati
(of) life ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world وَٱللَّهُ but Allah wal-lahu
but Allah عِندَهُۥ with Him ʿindahu
with Him حُسْنُ (is an) excellent ḥus'nu
(is an) excellent ٱلْمَـَٔابِ [the] abode to return l-maābi
[the] abode to return ١٤ (14)
(14)
Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire - of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the enjoyment of worldly life, but Allāh has with Him the best return [i.e., Paradise].
3:15
۞ قُلْ Say qul
Say أَؤُنَبِّئُكُم Shall I inform you a-unabbi-ukum
Shall I inform you بِخَيْرٍۢ of better bikhayrin
of better مِّن than min
than ذَٰلِكُمْ ۚ that dhālikum
that لِلَّذِينَ For those who lilladhīna
For those who ٱتَّقَوْا۟ fear[ed] ittaqaw
fear[ed] عِندَ with ʿinda
with رَبِّهِمْ their Lord rabbihim
their Lord جَنَّـٰتٌۭ (are) Gardens jannātun
(are) Gardens تَجْرِى flows tajrī
flows مِن from min
from تَحْتِهَا underneath them taḥtihā
underneath them ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ [the] rivers l-anhāru
[the] rivers خَـٰلِدِينَ abiding forever khālidīna
abiding forever فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it وَأَزْوَٰجٌۭ and spouses wa-azwājun
and spouses مُّطَهَّرَةٌۭ pure muṭahharatun
pure وَرِضْوَٰنٌۭ and approval wariḍ'wānun
and approval مِّنَ from mina
from ٱللَّهِ ۗ Allah l-lahi
Allah وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah بَصِيرٌۢ (is) All-Seer baṣīrun
(is) All-Seer بِٱلْعِبَادِ of (His) slaves bil-ʿibādi
of (His) slaves ١٥ (15)
(15)
Say, "Shall I inform you of [something] better than that? For those who fear Allāh will be gardens in the presence of their Lord beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally, and purified spouses and approval from Allāh. And Allāh is Seeing [i.e., aware] of [His] servants -
3:16
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who يَقُولُونَ say yaqūlūna
say رَبَّنَآ Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord إِنَّنَآ Indeed, we innanā
Indeed, we ءَامَنَّا (have) believed āmannā
(have) believed فَٱغْفِرْ so forgive fa-igh'fir
so forgive لَنَا for us lanā
for us ذُنُوبَنَا our sins dhunūbanā
our sins وَقِنَا and save us waqinā
and save us عَذَابَ (from) punishment ʿadhāba
(from) punishment ٱلنَّارِ (of) the Fire l-nāri
(of) the Fire ١٦ (16)
(16)
Those who say, "Our Lord, indeed we have believed, so forgive us our sins and protect us from the punishment of the Fire,"
3:17
ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ The patient al-ṣābirīna
The patient وَٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ and the truthful wal-ṣādiqīna
and the truthful وَٱلْقَـٰنِتِينَ and the obedient wal-qānitīna
and the obedient وَٱلْمُنفِقِينَ and those who spend wal-munfiqīna
and those who spend وَٱلْمُسْتَغْفِرِينَ and those who seek forgiveness wal-mus'taghfirīna
and those who seek forgiveness بِٱلْأَسْحَارِ [in the] before dawn bil-asḥāri
[in the] before dawn ١٧ (17)
(17)
The patient, the true, the obedient, those who spend [in the way of Allāh], and those who seek forgiveness before dawn.
3:18
شَهِدَ Bears witness shahida
Bears witness ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah أَنَّهُۥ that [He] annahu
that [He] لَآ (there is) no lā
(there is) no إِلَـٰهَ god ilāha
god إِلَّا except illā
except هُوَ Him huwa
Him وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ and (so do) the Angels wal-malāikatu
and (so do) the Angels وَأُو۟لُوا۟ and owners wa-ulū
and owners ٱلْعِلْمِ (of) [the] knowledge l-ʿil'mi
(of) [the] knowledge قَآئِمًۢا standing qāiman
standing بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۚ in justice bil-qis'ṭi
in justice لَآ (There is) no lā
(There is) no إِلَـٰهَ god ilāha
god إِلَّا except illā
except هُوَ Him huwa
Him ٱلْعَزِيزُ the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzu
the All-Mighty ٱلْحَكِيمُ the All-Wise l-ḥakīmu
the All-Wise ١٨ (18)
(18)
Allāh witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge - [that He is] maintaining [creation] in justice. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
3:19
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱلدِّينَ the religion l-dīna
the religion عِندَ near ʿinda
near ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah ٱلْإِسْلَـٰمُ ۗ (is) Islam l-is'lāmu
(is) Islam وَمَا And not wamā
And not ٱخْتَلَفَ differed ikh'talafa
differed ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who أُوتُوا۟ were given ūtū
were given ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book l-kitāba
the Book إِلَّا except illā
except مِنۢ from min
from بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after مَا [what] mā
[what] جَآءَهُمُ came to them jāahumu
came to them ٱلْعِلْمُ [the] knowledge l-ʿil'mu
[the] knowledge بَغْيًۢا out of envy baghyan
out of envy بَيْنَهُمْ ۗ among them baynahum
among them وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever يَكْفُرْ disbelieves yakfur
disbelieves بِـَٔايَـٰتِ in (the) Verses biāyāti
in (the) Verses ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah فَإِنَّ then indeed fa-inna
then indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah سَرِيعُ (is) swift sarīʿu
(is) swift ٱلْحِسَابِ (in taking) account l-ḥisābi
(in taking) account ١٩ (19)
(19)
Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allāh is Islām. And those who were given the Scripture did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And whoever disbelieves in the verses of Allāh, then indeed, Allāh is swift in [taking] account.
3:20
فَإِنْ Then if fa-in
Then if حَآجُّوكَ they argue with you ḥājjūka
they argue with you فَقُلْ then say faqul
then say أَسْلَمْتُ I have submitted aslamtu
I have submitted وَجْهِىَ myself wajhiya
myself لِلَّهِ to Allah lillahi
to Allah وَمَنِ and (those) who wamani
and (those) who ٱتَّبَعَنِ ۗ follow me ittabaʿani
follow me وَقُل And say waqul
And say لِّلَّذِينَ to those who lilladhīna
to those who أُوتُوا۟ were given ūtū
were given ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book l-kitāba
the Book وَٱلْأُمِّيِّـۧنَ and the unlettered people wal-umiyīna
and the unlettered people ءَأَسْلَمْتُمْ ۚ Have you submitted yourselves a-aslamtum
Have you submitted yourselves فَإِنْ Then if fa-in
Then if أَسْلَمُوا۟ they submit aslamū
they submit فَقَدِ then surely faqadi
then surely ٱهْتَدَوا۟ ۖ they are guided ih'tadaw
they are guided وَّإِن But if wa-in
But if تَوَلَّوْا۟ they turn back tawallaw
they turn back فَإِنَّمَا then only fa-innamā
then only عَلَيْكَ on you ʿalayka
on you ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ۗ (is) to [the] convey l-balāghu
(is) to [the] convey وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah بَصِيرٌۢ (is) All-Seer baṣīrun
(is) All-Seer بِٱلْعِبَادِ of [His] slaves bil-ʿibādi
of [His] slaves ٢٠ (20)
(20)
So if they argue with you, say, "I have submitted myself to Allāh [in Islām], and [so have] those who follow me." And say to those who were given the Scripture and [to] the unlearned, "Have you submitted yourselves?" And if they submit [in Islām], they are rightly guided; but if they turn away - then upon you is only the [duty of] notification. And Allāh is Seeing of [His] servants.
3:21
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who يَكْفُرُونَ disbelieve yakfurūna
disbelieve بِـَٔايَـٰتِ in (the) Signs (of) biāyāti
in (the) Signs (of) ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah وَيَقْتُلُونَ and they kill wayaqtulūna
and they kill ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ the Prophets l-nabiyīna
the Prophets بِغَيْرِ without bighayri
without حَقٍّۢ right ḥaqqin
right وَيَقْتُلُونَ and they kill wayaqtulūna
and they kill ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who يَأْمُرُونَ order yamurūna
order بِٱلْقِسْطِ [with] justice bil-qis'ṭi
[with] justice مِنَ among mina
among ٱلنَّاسِ the people l-nāsi
the people فَبَشِّرْهُم then give them tidings fabashir'hum
then give them tidings بِعَذَابٍ of a punishment biʿadhābin
of a punishment أَلِيمٍ painful alīmin
painful ٢١ (21)
(21)
Those who disbelieve in the signs of Allāh and kill the prophets without right and kill those who order justice from among the people - give them tidings of a painful punishment.
3:22
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those ٱلَّذِينَ (are) the ones who alladhīna
(are) the ones who حَبِطَتْ became worthless ḥabiṭat
became worthless أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ their deeds aʿmāluhum
their deeds فِى in fī
in ٱلدُّنْيَا the world l-dun'yā
the world وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ and (in) the Hereafter wal-ākhirati
and (in) the Hereafter وَمَا And not wamā
And not لَهُم (will be) for them lahum
(will be) for them مِّن any min
any نَّـٰصِرِينَ helpers nāṣirīna
helpers ٢٢ (22)
(22)
They are the ones whose deeds have become worthless in this world and the Hereafter, and for them there will be no helpers.
3:23
أَلَمْ Have not alam
Have not تَرَ you seen tara
you seen إِلَى [to] ilā
[to] ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who أُوتُوا۟ were given ūtū
were given نَصِيبًۭا a portion naṣīban
a portion مِّنَ of mina
of ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ the Scripture l-kitābi
the Scripture يُدْعَوْنَ They are invited yud'ʿawna
They are invited إِلَىٰ to ilā
to كِتَـٰبِ (the) Book kitābi
(the) Book ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah لِيَحْكُمَ that (it should) arbitrate liyaḥkuma
that (it should) arbitrate بَيْنَهُمْ between them baynahum
between them ثُمَّ then thumma
then يَتَوَلَّىٰ turns away yatawallā
turns away فَرِيقٌۭ a party farīqun
a party مِّنْهُمْ of them min'hum
of them وَهُم and they (are) wahum
and they (are) مُّعْرِضُونَ those who are averse muʿ'riḍūna
those who are averse ٢٣ (23)
(23)
Do you not consider, [O Muḥammad], those who were given a portion of the Scripture? They are invited to the Scripture of Allāh that it should arbitrate between them; then a party of them turns away, and they are refusing.
3:24
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That بِأَنَّهُمْ (is) because they bi-annahum
(is) because they قَالُوا۟ say qālū
say لَن Never lan
Never تَمَسَّنَا will touch us tamassanā
will touch us ٱلنَّارُ the Fire l-nāru
the Fire إِلَّآ except illā
except أَيَّامًۭا (for) days ayyāman
(for) days مَّعْدُودَٰتٍۢ ۖ numbered maʿdūdātin
numbered وَغَرَّهُمْ And deceived them wagharrahum
And deceived them فِى in fī
in دِينِهِم their religion dīnihim
their religion مَّا what mā
what كَانُوا۟ they were kānū
they were يَفْتَرُونَ inventing yaftarūna
inventing ٢٤ (24)
(24)
That is because they say, "Never will the Fire touch us except for [a few] numbered days," and [because] they were deluded in their religion by what they were inventing.
3:25
فَكَيْفَ Then how (will it be) fakayfa
Then how (will it be) إِذَا when idhā
when جَمَعْنَـٰهُمْ We will gather them jamaʿnāhum
We will gather them لِيَوْمٍۢ on a Day liyawmin
on a Day لَّا no lā
no رَيْبَ doubt rayba
doubt فِيهِ in it fīhi
in it وَوُفِّيَتْ And will be paid in full wawuffiyat
And will be paid in full كُلُّ every kullu
every نَفْسٍۢ soul nafsin
soul مَّا what mā
what كَسَبَتْ it earned kasabat
it earned وَهُمْ and they wahum
and they لَا (will) not lā
(will) not يُظْلَمُونَ be wronged yuẓ'lamūna
be wronged ٢٥ (25)
(25)
So how will it be when We assemble them for a Day about which there is no doubt? And each soul will be compensated [in full for] what it earned, and they will not be wronged.
3:26
قُلِ Say quli
Say ٱللَّهُمَّ O Allah l-lahuma
O Allah مَـٰلِكَ Owner mālika
Owner ٱلْمُلْكِ (of) the Dominion l-mul'ki
(of) the Dominion تُؤْتِى You give tu'tī
You give ٱلْمُلْكَ the dominion l-mul'ka
the dominion مَن (to) whom man
(to) whom تَشَآءُ You will tashāu
You will وَتَنزِعُ and You take away watanziʿu
and You take away ٱلْمُلْكَ the dominion l-mul'ka
the dominion مِمَّن from whom mimman
from whom تَشَآءُ You will tashāu
You will وَتُعِزُّ and You honor watuʿizzu
and You honor مَن whom man
whom تَشَآءُ You will tashāu
You will وَتُذِلُّ and You humiliate watudhillu
and You humiliate مَن whom man
whom تَشَآءُ ۖ You will tashāu
You will بِيَدِكَ In Your hand biyadika
In Your hand ٱلْخَيْرُ ۖ (is all) the good l-khayru
(is all) the good إِنَّكَ Indeed, You innaka
Indeed, You عَلَىٰ (are) on ʿalā
(are) on كُلِّ every kulli
every شَىْءٍۢ thing shayin
thing قَدِيرٌۭ All-Powerful qadīrun
All-Powerful ٢٦ (26)
(26)
Say, "O Allāh, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent.
3:27
تُولِجُ You cause to enter tūliju
You cause to enter ٱلَّيْلَ the night al-layla
the night فِى in fī
in ٱلنَّهَارِ the day l-nahāri
the day وَتُولِجُ and You cause to enter watūliju
and You cause to enter ٱلنَّهَارَ the day l-nahāra
the day فِى in fī
in ٱلَّيْلِ ۖ the night al-layli
the night وَتُخْرِجُ and You bring forth watukh'riju
and You bring forth ٱلْحَىَّ the living l-ḥaya
the living مِنَ from mina
from ٱلْمَيِّتِ the dead l-mayiti
the dead وَتُخْرِجُ and You bring forth watukh'riju
and You bring forth ٱلْمَيِّتَ the dead l-mayita
the dead مِنَ from mina
from ٱلْحَىِّ ۖ the living l-ḥayi
the living وَتَرْزُقُ and You give provision watarzuqu
and You give provision مَن (to) whom man
(to) whom تَشَآءُ You will tashāu
You will بِغَيْرِ without bighayri
without حِسَابٍۢ measure ḥisābin
measure ٢٧ (27)
(27)
You cause the night to enter the day, and You cause the day to enter the night; and You bring the living out of the dead, and You bring the dead out of the living. And You give provision to whom You will without account [i.e., limit or measure]."
3:28
لَّا (Let) not lā
(Let) not يَتَّخِذِ take yattakhidhi
take ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ the believers l-mu'minūna
the believers ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ the disbelievers l-kāfirīna
the disbelievers أَوْلِيَآءَ (as) allies awliyāa
(as) allies مِن from min
from دُونِ instead of dūni
instead of ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۖ the believers l-mu'minīna
the believers وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever يَفْعَلْ does yafʿal
does ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that فَلَيْسَ then not he (has) falaysa
then not he (has) مِنَ from mina
from ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah فِى in fī
in شَىْءٍ anything shayin
anything إِلَّآ except illā
except أَن that an
that تَتَّقُوا۟ you fear tattaqū
you fear مِنْهُمْ from them min'hum
from them تُقَىٰةًۭ ۗ (as) a precaution tuqātan
(as) a precaution وَيُحَذِّرُكُمُ And warns you wayuḥadhirukumu
And warns you ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah نَفْسَهُۥ ۗ (of) Himself nafsahu
(of) Himself وَإِلَى and to wa-ilā
and to ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah ٱلْمَصِيرُ (is) the final return l-maṣīru
(is) the final return ٢٨ (28)
(28)
Let not believers take disbelievers as allies [i.e., supporters or protectors] rather than believers. And whoever [of you] does that has nothing [i.e., no association] with Allāh, except when taking precaution against them in prudence. And Allāh warns you of Himself, and to Allāh is the [final] destination.
3:29
قُلْ Say qul
Say إِن Whether in
Whether تُخْفُوا۟ you conceal tukh'fū
you conceal مَا what mā
what فِى (is) in fī
(is) in صُدُورِكُمْ your breasts ṣudūrikum
your breasts أَوْ or aw
or تُبْدُوهُ you disclose it tub'dūhu
you disclose it يَعْلَمْهُ knows it yaʿlamhu
knows it ٱللَّهُ ۗ Allah l-lahu
Allah وَيَعْلَمُ And He knows wayaʿlamu
And He knows مَا what mā
what فِى (is) in fī
(is) in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens وَمَا and what wamā
and what فِى (is) in fī
(is) in ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ the earth l-arḍi
the earth وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah عَلَىٰ (is) on ʿalā
(is) on كُلِّ every kulli
every شَىْءٍۢ thing shayin
thing قَدِيرٌۭ All-Powerful qadīrun
All-Powerful ٢٩ (29)
(29)
Say, "Whether you conceal what is in your breasts or reveal it, Allāh knows it. And He knows that which is in the heavens and that which is on the earth. And Allāh is over all things competent.
3:30
يَوْمَ (On the) day yawma
(On the) day تَجِدُ will find tajidu
will find كُلُّ every kullu
every نَفْسٍۢ soul nafsin
soul مَّا what mā
what عَمِلَتْ it did ʿamilat
it did مِنْ of min
of خَيْرٍۢ good khayrin
good مُّحْضَرًۭا presented muḥ'ḍaran
presented وَمَا and what wamā
and what عَمِلَتْ it did ʿamilat
it did مِن of min
of سُوٓءٍۢ evil sūin
evil تَوَدُّ it will wish tawaddu
it will wish لَوْ [if] law
[if] أَنَّ that anna
that بَيْنَهَا between itself baynahā
between itself وَبَيْنَهُۥٓ and between it (evil) wabaynahu
and between it (evil) أَمَدًۢا (was) a distance amadan
(was) a distance بَعِيدًۭا ۗ great baʿīdan
great وَيُحَذِّرُكُمُ And warns you wayuḥadhirukumu
And warns you ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah نَفْسَهُۥ ۗ (against) Himself nafsahu
(against) Himself وَٱللَّهُ and Allah wal-lahu
and Allah رَءُوفٌۢ (is) Most Kind raūfun
(is) Most Kind بِٱلْعِبَادِ to (His) [the] slaves bil-ʿibādi
to (His) [the] slaves ٣٠ (30)
(30)
The Day every soul will find what it has done of good present [before it] and what it has done of evil, it will wish that between itself and that [evil] was a great distance. And Allāh warns you of Himself, and Allāh is Kind to [His] servants."
3:31
قُلْ Say qul
Say إِن If in
If كُنتُمْ you kuntum
you تُحِبُّونَ love tuḥibbūna
love ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah فَٱتَّبِعُونِى then follow me fa-ittabiʿūnī
then follow me يُحْبِبْكُمُ will love you yuḥ'bib'kumu
will love you ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah وَيَغْفِرْ and He will forgive wayaghfir
and He will forgive لَكُمْ for you lakum
for you ذُنُوبَكُمْ ۗ your sins dhunūbakum
your sins وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah غَفُورٌۭ (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun
(is) Oft-Forgiving رَّحِيمٌۭ Most Merciful raḥīmun
Most Merciful ٣١ (31)
(31)
Say, [O Muḥammad], "If you should love Allāh, then follow me, [so] Allāh will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful."
3:32
قُلْ Say qul
Say أَطِيعُوا۟ Obey aṭīʿū
Obey ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah وَٱلرَّسُولَ ۖ and the Messenger wal-rasūla
and the Messenger فَإِن Then if fa-in
Then if تَوَلَّوْا۟ they turn away tawallaw
they turn away فَإِنَّ then indeed fa-inna
then indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah لَا (does) not lā
(does) not يُحِبُّ love yuḥibbu
love ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ the disbelievers l-kāfirīna
the disbelievers ٣٢ (32)
(32)
Say, "Obey Allāh and the Messenger. But if you turn away - then indeed, Allāh does not like the disbelievers."
3:33
۞ إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah ٱصْطَفَىٰٓ chose iṣ'ṭafā
chose ءَادَمَ Adam ādama
Adam وَنُوحًۭا and Nuh wanūḥan
and Nuh وَءَالَ and (the) family waāla
and (the) family إِبْرَٰهِيمَ (of) Ibrahim ib'rāhīma
(of) Ibrahim وَءَالَ and (the) family waāla
and (the) family عِمْرَٰنَ (of) Imran ʿim'rāna
(of) Imran عَلَى over ʿalā
over ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ the worlds l-ʿālamīna
the worlds ٣٣ (33)
(33)
Indeed, Allāh chose Adam and Noah and the family of Abraham and the family of ʿImrān over the worlds -
3:34
ذُرِّيَّةًۢ Descendents dhurriyyatan
Descendents بَعْضُهَا some of them baʿḍuhā
some of them مِنۢ from min
from بَعْضٍۢ ۗ others baʿḍin
others وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah سَمِيعٌ (is) All-Hearing samīʿun
(is) All-Hearing عَلِيمٌ All-Knowing ʿalīmun
All-Knowing ٣٤ (34)
(34)
Descendants, some of them from others. And Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.
3:35
إِذْ When idh
When قَالَتِ [she] said qālati
[she] said ٱمْرَأَتُ (the) wife im'ra-atu
(the) wife عِمْرَٰنَ (of) Imran ʿim'rāna
(of) Imran رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord إِنِّى Indeed, I innī
Indeed, I نَذَرْتُ [I] vowed nadhartu
[I] vowed لَكَ to You laka
to You مَا what mā
what فِى (is) in fī
(is) in بَطْنِى my womb baṭnī
my womb مُحَرَّرًۭا dedicated muḥarraran
dedicated فَتَقَبَّلْ so accept fataqabbal
so accept مِنِّىٓ ۖ from me minnī
from me إِنَّكَ Indeed, You innaka
Indeed, You أَنتَ You anta
You ٱلسَّمِيعُ (are) the All-Hearing l-samīʿu
(are) the All-Hearing ٱلْعَلِيمُ the All-Knowing l-ʿalīmu
the All-Knowing ٣٥ (35)
(35)
[Mention, O Muḥammad], when the wife of ʿImrān said, "My Lord, indeed I have pledged to You what is in my womb, consecrated [for Your service], so accept this from me. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing."
3:36
فَلَمَّا Then when falammā
Then when وَضَعَتْهَا she delivered her waḍaʿathā
she delivered her قَالَتْ she said qālat
she said رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord إِنِّى indeed I innī
indeed I وَضَعْتُهَآ [I] (have) delivered [her] waḍaʿtuhā
[I] (have) delivered [her] أُنثَىٰ a female unthā
a female وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah أَعْلَمُ knows better aʿlamu
knows better بِمَا [of] what bimā
[of] what وَضَعَتْ she delivered waḍaʿat
she delivered وَلَيْسَ and is not walaysa
and is not ٱلذَّكَرُ the male l-dhakaru
the male كَٱلْأُنثَىٰ ۖ like the female kal-unthā
like the female وَإِنِّى And that I wa-innī
And that I سَمَّيْتُهَا [I] (have) named her sammaytuhā
[I] (have) named her مَرْيَمَ Maryam maryama
Maryam وَإِنِّىٓ and that I wa-innī
and that I أُعِيذُهَا [I] seek refuge for her uʿīdhuhā
[I] seek refuge for her بِكَ in You bika
in You وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا and her offspring wadhurriyyatahā
and her offspring مِنَ from mina
from ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ the Shaitaan l-shayṭāni
the Shaitaan ٱلرَّجِيمِ the rejected l-rajīmi
the rejected ٣٦ (36)
(36)
But when she delivered her, she said, "My Lord, I have delivered a female." And Allāh was most knowing of what she delivered, and the male is not like the female. "And I have named her Mary, and I seek refuge for her in You and [for] her descendants from Satan, the expelled [from the mercy of Allāh]."
3:37
فَتَقَبَّلَهَا So accepted her fataqabbalahā
So accepted her رَبُّهَا her Lord rabbuhā
her Lord بِقَبُولٍ with acceptance biqabūlin
with acceptance حَسَنٍۢ good ḥasanin
good وَأَنۢبَتَهَا and reared her wa-anbatahā
and reared her نَبَاتًا a rearing nabātan
a rearing حَسَنًۭا good ḥasanan
good وَكَفَّلَهَا and put her in (the) care wakaffalahā
and put her in (the) care زَكَرِيَّا ۖ (of) Zakariya zakariyyā
(of) Zakariya كُلَّمَا Whenever kullamā
Whenever دَخَلَ entered dakhala
entered عَلَيْهَا upon her ʿalayhā
upon her زَكَرِيَّا Zakariya zakariyyā
Zakariya ٱلْمِحْرَابَ [the] prayer chamber l-miḥ'rāba
[the] prayer chamber وَجَدَ he found wajada
he found عِندَهَا with her ʿindahā
with her رِزْقًۭا ۖ provision riz'qan
provision قَالَ He said qāla
He said يَـٰمَرْيَمُ O Maryam yāmaryamu
O Maryam أَنَّىٰ From where annā
From where لَكِ for you laki
for you هَـٰذَا ۖ (is) this hādhā
(is) this قَالَتْ She said qālat
She said هُوَ This huwa
This مِنْ (is) min
(is) عِندِ from ʿindi
from ٱللَّهِ ۖ Allah l-lahi
Allah إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah يَرْزُقُ gives provision yarzuqu
gives provision مَن (to) whom man
(to) whom يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills بِغَيْرِ without bighayri
without حِسَابٍ measure ḥisābin
measure ٣٧ (37)
(37)
So her Lord accepted her with good acceptance and caused her to grow in a good manner and put her in the care of Zechariah. Every time Zechariah entered upon her in the prayer chamber, he found with her provision. He said, "O Mary, from where is this [coming] to you?" She said, "It is from Allāh. Indeed, Allāh provides for whom He wills without account."
3:38
هُنَالِكَ There only hunālika
There only دَعَا invoked daʿā
invoked زَكَرِيَّا Zakariya zakariyyā
Zakariya رَبَّهُۥ ۖ his Lord rabbahu
his Lord قَالَ he said qāla
he said رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord هَبْ grant hab
grant لِى [for] me lī
[for] me مِن from min
from لَّدُنكَ Yourself ladunka
Yourself ذُرِّيَّةًۭ offspring dhurriyyatan
offspring طَيِّبَةً ۖ pure ṭayyibatan
pure إِنَّكَ Indeed, You innaka
Indeed, You سَمِيعُ (are) All-Hearer samīʿu
(are) All-Hearer ٱلدُّعَآءِ (of) the prayer l-duʿāi
(of) the prayer ٣٨ (38)
(38)
At that, Zechariah called upon his Lord, saying, "My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication."
3:39
فَنَادَتْهُ Then called him fanādathu
Then called him ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ the Angels l-malāikatu
the Angels وَهُوَ when he wahuwa
when he قَآئِمٌۭ (was) standing qāimun
(was) standing يُصَلِّى praying yuṣallī
praying فِى in fī
in ٱلْمِحْرَابِ the prayer chamber l-miḥ'rābi
the prayer chamber أَنَّ Indeed anna
Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah يُبَشِّرُكَ gives you glad tidings yubashiruka
gives you glad tidings بِيَحْيَىٰ of Yahya biyaḥyā
of Yahya مُصَدِّقًۢا confirming muṣaddiqan
confirming بِكَلِمَةٍۢ [of] a Word bikalimatin
[of] a Word مِّنَ from mina
from ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah وَسَيِّدًۭا and a noble wasayyidan
and a noble وَحَصُورًۭا and chaste waḥaṣūran
and chaste وَنَبِيًّۭا and a Prophet wanabiyyan
and a Prophet مِّنَ among mina
among ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ the righteous l-ṣāliḥīna
the righteous ٣٩ (39)
(39)
So the angels called him while he was standing in prayer in the chamber, "Indeed, Allāh gives you good tidings of John, confirming a word from Allāh and [who will be] honorable, abstaining [from women], and a prophet from among the righteous."
3:40
قَالَ He said qāla
He said رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord أَنَّىٰ how annā
how يَكُونُ can (there) be yakūnu
can (there) be لِى for me lī
for me غُلَـٰمٌۭ a son ghulāmun
a son وَقَدْ and verily waqad
and verily بَلَغَنِىَ has reached me balaghaniya
has reached me ٱلْكِبَرُ [the] old age l-kibaru
[the] old age وَٱمْرَأَتِى and my wife wa-im'ra-atī
and my wife عَاقِرٌۭ ۖ (is) [a] barren ʿāqirun
(is) [a] barren قَالَ He said qāla
He said كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika
Thus ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah يَفْعَلُ does yafʿalu
does مَا what mā
what يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills ٤٠ (40)
(40)
He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when I have reached old age and my wife is barren?" He [the angel] said, "Such is Allāh; He does what He wills."
3:41
قَالَ He said qāla
He said رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord ٱجْعَل make ij'ʿal
make لِّىٓ for me lī
for me ءَايَةًۭ ۖ a sign āyatan
a sign قَالَ He said qāla
He said ءَايَتُكَ your sign āyatuka
your sign أَلَّا (is) that not allā
(is) that not تُكَلِّمَ you will speak tukallima
you will speak ٱلنَّاسَ (to) the people l-nāsa
(to) the people ثَلَـٰثَةَ (for) three thalāthata
(for) three أَيَّامٍ days ayyāmin
days إِلَّا except illā
except رَمْزًۭا ۗ (with) gestures ramzan
(with) gestures وَٱذْكُر And remember wa-udh'kur
And remember رَّبَّكَ your Lord rabbaka
your Lord كَثِيرًۭا much kathīran
much وَسَبِّحْ and glorify (Him) wasabbiḥ
and glorify (Him) بِٱلْعَشِىِّ in the evening bil-ʿashiyi
in the evening وَٱلْإِبْكَـٰرِ and (in) the morning wal-ib'kāri
and (in) the morning ٤١ (41)
(41)
He said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not [be able to] speak to the people for three days except by gesture. And remember your Lord much and exalt [Him with praise] in the evening and the morning."
3:42
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when قَالَتِ said qālati
said ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ the Angels l-malāikatu
the Angels يَـٰمَرْيَمُ O Maryam yāmaryamu
O Maryam إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah ٱصْطَفَىٰكِ (has) chosen you iṣ'ṭafāki
(has) chosen you وَطَهَّرَكِ and purified you waṭahharaki
and purified you وَٱصْطَفَىٰكِ and chosen you wa-iṣ'ṭafāki
and chosen you عَلَىٰ over ʿalā
over نِسَآءِ (the) women nisāi
(the) women ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds ٤٢ (42)
(42)
And [mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allāh has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the worlds.
3:43
يَـٰمَرْيَمُ O Maryam yāmaryamu
O Maryam ٱقْنُتِى Be obedient uq'nutī
Be obedient لِرَبِّكِ to your Lord lirabbiki
to your Lord وَٱسْجُدِى and prostrate wa-us'judī
and prostrate وَٱرْكَعِى and bow down wa-ir'kaʿī
and bow down مَعَ with maʿa
with ٱلرَّٰكِعِينَ those who bow down l-rākiʿīna
those who bow down ٤٣ (43)
(43)
O Mary, be devoutly obedient to your Lord and prostrate and bow with those who bow [in prayer]."
3:44
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That مِنْ (is) from min
(is) from أَنۢبَآءِ (the) news anbāi
(the) news ٱلْغَيْبِ (of) the unseen l-ghaybi
(of) the unseen نُوحِيهِ We reveal it nūḥīhi
We reveal it إِلَيْكَ ۚ to you ilayka
to you وَمَا And not wamā
And not كُنتَ you were kunta
you were لَدَيْهِمْ with them ladayhim
with them إِذْ when idh
when يُلْقُونَ they cast yul'qūna
they cast أَقْلَـٰمَهُمْ their pens aqlāmahum
their pens أَيُّهُمْ (as to) which of them ayyuhum
(as to) which of them يَكْفُلُ takes charge (of) yakfulu
takes charge (of) مَرْيَمَ Maryam maryama
Maryam وَمَا and not wamā
and not كُنتَ you were kunta
you were لَدَيْهِمْ with them ladayhim
with them إِذْ when idh
when يَخْتَصِمُونَ they (were) disputing yakhtaṣimūna
they (were) disputing ٤٤ (44)
(44)
That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you, [O Muḥammad]. And you were not with them when they cast their pens as to which of them should be responsible for Mary. Nor were you with them when they disputed.
3:45
إِذْ When idh
When قَالَتِ said qālati
said ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ the Angels l-malāikatu
the Angels يَـٰمَرْيَمُ O Maryam yāmaryamu
O Maryam إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah يُبَشِّرُكِ gives you glad tidings yubashiruki
gives you glad tidings بِكَلِمَةٍۢ of a word bikalimatin
of a word مِّنْهُ from Him min'hu
from Him ٱسْمُهُ his name us'muhu
his name ٱلْمَسِيحُ (is) the Messiah l-masīḥu
(is) the Messiah عِيسَى Isa ʿīsā
Isa ٱبْنُ son ub'nu
son مَرْيَمَ (of) Maryam maryama
(of) Maryam وَجِيهًۭا honored wajīhan
honored فِى in fī
in ٱلدُّنْيَا the world l-dun'yā
the world وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ and (in) the Hereafter wal-ākhirati
and (in) the Hereafter وَمِنَ and of wamina
and of ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ those brought near (to Allah) l-muqarabīna
those brought near (to Allah) ٤٥ (45)
(45)
[And mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allāh gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary - distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allāh].
3:46
وَيُكَلِّمُ And he will speak wayukallimu
And he will speak ٱلنَّاسَ (to) the people l-nāsa
(to) the people فِى in fī
in ٱلْمَهْدِ the cradle l-mahdi
the cradle وَكَهْلًۭا and (in) maturity wakahlan
and (in) maturity وَمِنَ and (he will be) of wamina
and (he will be) of ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ the righteous l-ṣāliḥīna
the righteous ٤٦ (46)
(46)
He will speak to the people in the cradle and in maturity and will be of the righteous."
3:47
قَالَتْ She said qālat
She said رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord أَنَّىٰ how annā
how يَكُونُ is [it] yakūnu
is [it] لِى for me lī
for me وَلَدٌۭ a boy waladun
a boy وَلَمْ and (has) not walam
and (has) not يَمْسَسْنِى touch(ed) me yamsasnī
touch(ed) me بَشَرٌۭ ۖ any man basharun
any man قَالَ He said qāla
He said كَذَٰلِكِ Thus kadhāliki
Thus ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah يَخْلُقُ creates yakhluqu
creates مَا what mā
what يَشَآءُ ۚ He wills yashāu
He wills إِذَا When idhā
When قَضَىٰٓ He decrees qaḍā
He decrees أَمْرًۭا a matter amran
a matter فَإِنَّمَا then only fa-innamā
then only يَقُولُ He says yaqūlu
He says لَهُۥ to it lahu
to it كُن Be kun
Be فَيَكُونُ and it becomes fayakūnu
and it becomes ٤٧ (47)
(47)
She said, "My Lord, how will I have a child when no man has touched me?" [The angel] said, "Such is Allāh; He creates what He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is.
3:48
وَيُعَلِّمُهُ And He will teach him wayuʿallimuhu
And He will teach him ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book l-kitāba
the Book وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ and [the] wisdom wal-ḥik'mata
and [the] wisdom وَٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ and the Taurat wal-tawrāta
and the Taurat وَٱلْإِنجِيلَ and the Injeel wal-injīla
and the Injeel ٤٨ (48)
(48)
And He will teach him writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel
3:49
وَرَسُولًا And (make him) a Messenger warasūlan
And (make him) a Messenger إِلَىٰ to ilā
to بَنِىٓ (the) Children banī
(the) Children إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ (of) Israel is'rāīla
(of) Israel أَنِّى Indeed, I annī
Indeed, I قَدْ [surely] qad
[surely] جِئْتُكُم [I] (have) come (to) you ji'tukum
[I] (have) come (to) you بِـَٔايَةٍۢ with a sign biāyatin
with a sign مِّن from min
from رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ your Lord rabbikum
your Lord أَنِّىٓ that I annī
that I أَخْلُقُ [I] design akhluqu
[I] design لَكُم for you lakum
for you مِّنَ from mina
from ٱلطِّينِ [the] clay l-ṭīni
[the] clay كَهَيْـَٔةِ like the form kahayati
like the form ٱلطَّيْرِ (of) the bird l-ṭayri
(of) the bird فَأَنفُخُ then I breath fa-anfukhu
then I breath فِيهِ into it fīhi
into it فَيَكُونُ and it becomes fayakūnu
and it becomes طَيْرًۢا a bird ṭayran
a bird بِإِذْنِ by (the) permission bi-idh'ni
by (the) permission ٱللَّهِ ۖ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah وَأُبْرِئُ And I cure wa-ub'ri-u
And I cure ٱلْأَكْمَهَ the blind l-akmaha
the blind وَٱلْأَبْرَصَ and the leper wal-abraṣa
and the leper وَأُحْىِ and I give life wa-uḥ'yī
and I give life ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ (to) the dead l-mawtā
(to) the dead بِإِذْنِ by (the) permission bi-idh'ni
by (the) permission ٱللَّهِ ۖ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah وَأُنَبِّئُكُم And I inform you wa-unabbi-ukum
And I inform you بِمَا of what bimā
of what تَأْكُلُونَ you eat takulūna
you eat وَمَا and what wamā
and what تَدَّخِرُونَ you store taddakhirūna
you store فِى in fī
in بُيُوتِكُمْ ۚ your houses buyūtikum
your houses إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed فِى in fī
in ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that لَـَٔايَةًۭ (is) surely a sign laāyatan
(is) surely a sign لَّكُمْ for you lakum
for you إِن if in
if كُنتُم you are kuntum
you are مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers mu'minīna
believers ٤٩ (49)
(49)
And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], 'Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allāh. And I cure the blind [from birth] and the leper, and I give life to the dead - by permission of Allāh. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers.
3:50
وَمُصَدِّقًۭا And confirming wamuṣaddiqan
And confirming لِّمَا that which limā
that which بَيْنَ (was) bayna
(was) يَدَىَّ before me yadayya
before me مِنَ of mina
of ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ the Taurat l-tawrāti
the Taurat وَلِأُحِلَّ and so that I make lawful wali-uḥilla
and so that I make lawful لَكُم for you lakum
for you بَعْضَ some baʿḍa
some ٱلَّذِى (of) that which alladhī
(of) that which حُرِّمَ was forbidden ḥurrima
was forbidden عَلَيْكُمْ ۚ to you ʿalaykum
to you وَجِئْتُكُم And I (have) come to you waji'tukum
And I (have) come to you بِـَٔايَةٍۢ with a sign biāyatin
with a sign مِّن from min
from رَّبِّكُمْ your Lord rabbikum
your Lord فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear fa-ittaqū
So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me wa-aṭīʿūni
and obey me ٥٠ (50)
(50)
And [I have come] confirming what was before me of the Torah and to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you. And I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so fear Allāh and obey me.
3:51
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah رَبِّى (is) my Lord rabbī
(is) my Lord وَرَبُّكُمْ and your Lord warabbukum
and your Lord فَٱعْبُدُوهُ ۗ so worship Him fa-uʿ'budūhu
so worship Him هَـٰذَا This hādhā
This صِرَٰطٌۭ (is) the path ṣirāṭun
(is) the path مُّسْتَقِيمٌۭ straight mus'taqīmun
straight ٥١ (51)
(51)
Indeed, Allāh is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is the straight path.'"
3:52
۞ فَلَمَّآ Then when falammā
Then when أَحَسَّ perceived aḥassa
perceived عِيسَىٰ Isa ʿīsā
Isa مِنْهُمُ from them min'humu
from them ٱلْكُفْرَ [the] disbelief l-kuf'ra
[the] disbelief قَالَ he said qāla
he said مَنْ Who man
Who أَنصَارِىٓ (will be) my helpers anṣārī
(will be) my helpers إِلَى to ilā
to ٱللَّهِ ۖ Allah l-lahi
Allah قَالَ Said qāla
Said ٱلْحَوَارِيُّونَ the disciples l-ḥawāriyūna
the disciples نَحْنُ We naḥnu
We أَنصَارُ (will be the) helpers anṣāru
(will be the) helpers ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah ءَامَنَّا we believe[d] āmannā
we believe[d] بِٱللَّهِ in Allah bil-lahi
in Allah وَٱشْهَدْ and bear witness wa-ish'had
and bear witness بِأَنَّا that we bi-annā
that we مُسْلِمُونَ (are) Muslims mus'limūna
(are) Muslims ٥٢ (52)
(52)
But when Jesus felt [persistence in] disbelief from them, he said, "Who are my supporters for [the cause of] Allāh?" The disciples said, "We are supporters for Allāh. We have believed in Allāh and testify that we are Muslims [submitting to Him].
3:53
رَبَّنَآ Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord ءَامَنَّا we believe[d] āmannā
we believe[d] بِمَآ in what bimā
in what أَنزَلْتَ You revealed anzalta
You revealed وَٱتَّبَعْنَا and we follow[ed] wa-ittabaʿnā
and we follow[ed] ٱلرَّسُولَ the Messenger l-rasūla
the Messenger فَٱكْتُبْنَا then write us fa-uk'tub'nā
then write us مَعَ among maʿa
among ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ the witnesses l-shāhidīna
the witnesses ٥٣ (53)
(53)
Our Lord, we have believed in what You revealed and have followed the messenger [i.e., Jesus], so register us among the witnesses [to truth]."
3:54
وَمَكَرُوا۟ And they schemed wamakarū
And they schemed وَمَكَرَ and planned wamakara
and planned ٱللَّهُ ۖ Allah l-lahu
Allah وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah خَيْرُ (is the) best khayru
(is the) best ٱلْمَـٰكِرِينَ (of) the planners l-mākirīna
(of) the planners ٥٤ (54)
(54)
And they [i.e., the disbelievers] planned, but Allāh planned. And Allāh is the best of planners.
3:55
إِذْ When idh
When قَالَ said qāla
said ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah يَـٰعِيسَىٰٓ O Isa yāʿīsā
O Isa إِنِّى Indeed, I innī
Indeed, I مُتَوَفِّيكَ (will) take you mutawaffīka
(will) take you وَرَافِعُكَ and raise you warāfiʿuka
and raise you إِلَىَّ to Myself ilayya
to Myself وَمُطَهِّرُكَ and purify you wamuṭahhiruka
and purify you مِنَ from mina
from ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve[d] kafarū
disbelieve[d] وَجَاعِلُ and I will make wajāʿilu
and I will make ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who ٱتَّبَعُوكَ follow[ed] you ittabaʿūka
follow[ed] you فَوْقَ superior fawqa
superior ٱلَّذِينَ (to) those who alladhīna
(to) those who كَفَرُوٓا۟ disbelieve[d] kafarū
disbelieve[d] إِلَىٰ on ilā
on يَوْمِ (the) Day yawmi
(the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۖ (of) [the] Resurrection l-qiyāmati
(of) [the] Resurrection ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then إِلَىَّ to Me ilayya
to Me مَرْجِعُكُمْ (is) your return marjiʿukum
(is) your return فَأَحْكُمُ and I will judge fa-aḥkumu
and I will judge بَيْنَكُمْ between you baynakum
between you فِيمَا about what fīmā
about what كُنتُمْ you were kuntum
you were فِيهِ [in it] fīhi
[in it] تَخْتَلِفُونَ differing takhtalifūna
differing ٥٥ (55)
(55)
[Mention] when Allāh said, "O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify [i.e., free] you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you [in submission to Allāh alone] superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ.
3:56
فَأَمَّا Then as for fa-ammā
Then as for ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve[d] kafarū
disbelieve[d] فَأُعَذِّبُهُمْ then I will punish them fa-uʿadhibuhum
then I will punish them عَذَابًۭا (with) a punishment ʿadhāban
(with) a punishment شَدِيدًۭا severe shadīdan
severe فِى in fī
in ٱلدُّنْيَا the world l-dun'yā
the world وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ and (in) the Hereafter wal-ākhirati
and (in) the Hereafter وَمَا And not wamā
And not لَهُم for them lahum
for them مِّن any min
any نَّـٰصِرِينَ helpers nāṣirīna
helpers ٥٦ (56)
(56)
And as for those who disbelieved, I will punish them with a severe punishment in this world and the Hereafter, and they will have no helpers."
3:57
وَأَمَّا And as for wa-ammā
And as for ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe[d] āmanū
believe[d] وَعَمِلُوا۟ and did waʿamilū
and did ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ [the] righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti
[the] righteous deeds فَيُوَفِّيهِمْ then He will grant them in full fayuwaffīhim
then He will grant them in full أُجُورَهُمْ ۗ their reward ujūrahum
their reward وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah لَا (does) not lā
(does) not يُحِبُّ love yuḥibbu
love ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers ٥٧ (57)
(57)
But as for those who believed and did righteous deeds, He will give them in full their rewards, and Allāh does not like the wrongdoers.
3:58
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That نَتْلُوهُ (is what) We recite [it] natlūhu
(is what) We recite [it] عَلَيْكَ to you ʿalayka
to you مِنَ of mina
of ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ the Verses l-āyāti
the Verses وَٱلذِّكْرِ and the Reminder wal-dhik'ri
and the Reminder ٱلْحَكِيمِ [the] Wise l-ḥakīmi
[the] Wise ٥٨ (58)
(58)
This is what We recite to you, [O Muḥammad], of [Our] verses and the precise [and wise] message [i.e., the Qur’ān].
3:59
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed مَثَلَ (the) likeness mathala
(the) likeness عِيسَىٰ (of) Isa ʿīsā
(of) Isa عِندَ near ʿinda
near ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah كَمَثَلِ (is) like (the) likeness kamathali
(is) like (the) likeness ءَادَمَ ۖ (of) Adam ādama
(of) Adam خَلَقَهُۥ He created him khalaqahu
He created him مِن from min
from تُرَابٍۢ dust turābin
dust ثُمَّ then thumma
then قَالَ He said qāla
He said لَهُۥ to him lahu
to him كُن Be kun
Be فَيَكُونُ and he was fayakūnu
and he was ٥٩ (59)
(59)
Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allāh is like that of Adam. He created him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was.
3:60
ٱلْحَقُّ The truth al-ḥaqu
The truth مِن (is) from min
(is) from رَّبِّكَ your Lord rabbika
your Lord فَلَا so (do) not falā
so (do) not تَكُن be takun
be مِّنَ among mina
among ٱلْمُمْتَرِينَ the doubters l-mum'tarīna
the doubters ٦٠ (60)
(60)
The truth is from your Lord, so do not be among the doubters.
3:61
فَمَنْ Then whoever faman
Then whoever حَآجَّكَ argues (with) you ḥājjaka
argues (with) you فِيهِ concerning it fīhi
concerning it مِنۢ from min
from بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after مَا what mā
what جَآءَكَ came to you jāaka
came to you مِنَ of mina
of ٱلْعِلْمِ the knowledge l-ʿil'mi
the knowledge فَقُلْ then say faqul
then say تَعَالَوْا۟ Come taʿālaw
Come نَدْعُ let us call nadʿu
let us call أَبْنَآءَنَا our sons abnāanā
our sons وَأَبْنَآءَكُمْ and your sons wa-abnāakum
and your sons وَنِسَآءَنَا and our women wanisāanā
and our women وَنِسَآءَكُمْ and your women wanisāakum
and your women وَأَنفُسَنَا and ourselves wa-anfusanā
and ourselves وَأَنفُسَكُمْ and yourselves wa-anfusakum
and yourselves ثُمَّ then thumma
then نَبْتَهِلْ let us pray humbly nabtahil
let us pray humbly فَنَجْعَل and [we] invoke fanajʿal
and [we] invoke لَّعْنَتَ the curse laʿnata
the curse ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah عَلَى on ʿalā
on ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ the liars l-kādhibīna
the liars ٦١ (61)
(61)
Then whoever argues with you about it after [this] knowledge has come to you - say, "Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves, then supplicate earnestly [together] and invoke the curse of Allāh upon the liars [among us]."
3:62
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this لَهُوَ surely it (is) lahuwa
surely it (is) ٱلْقَصَصُ the narration l-qaṣaṣu
the narration ٱلْحَقُّ ۚ [the] true l-ḥaqu
[the] true وَمَا And (there is) no wamā
And (there is) no مِنْ (of) min
(of) إِلَـٰهٍ god ilāhin
god إِلَّا except illā
except ٱللَّهُ ۚ Allah l-lahu
Allah وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah لَهُوَ surely He lahuwa
surely He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzu
(is) the All-Mighty ٱلْحَكِيمُ the All-Wise l-ḥakīmu
the All-Wise ٦٢ (62)
(62)
Indeed, this is the true narration. And there is no deity except Allāh. And indeed, Allāh is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
3:63
فَإِن And if fa-in
And if تَوَلَّوْا۟ they turn back tawallaw
they turn back فَإِنَّ then indeed fa-inna
then indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah عَلِيمٌۢ (is) All-Knowing ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knowing بِٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ of the corrupters bil-muf'sidīna
of the corrupters ٦٣ (63)
(63)
But if they turn away, then indeed - Allāh is Knowing of the corrupters.
3:64
قُلْ Say qul
Say يَـٰٓأَهْلَ O People yāahla
O People ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book تَعَالَوْا۟ Come taʿālaw
Come إِلَىٰ to ilā
to كَلِمَةٍۢ a word kalimatin
a word سَوَآءٍۭ equitable sawāin
equitable بَيْنَنَا between us baynanā
between us وَبَيْنَكُمْ and between you wabaynakum
and between you أَلَّا that not allā
that not نَعْبُدَ we worship naʿbuda
we worship إِلَّا except illā
except ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah وَلَا and not walā
and not نُشْرِكَ we associate partners nush'rika
we associate partners بِهِۦ with Him bihi
with Him شَيْـًۭٔا anything shayan
anything وَلَا and not walā
and not يَتَّخِذَ take yattakhidha
take بَعْضُنَا some of us baʿḍunā
some of us بَعْضًا (to) others baʿḍan
(to) others أَرْبَابًۭا (as) lords arbāban
(as) lords مِّن from min
from دُونِ besides dūni
besides ٱللَّهِ ۚ Allah l-lahi
Allah فَإِن Then if fa-in
Then if تَوَلَّوْا۟ they turn away tawallaw
they turn away فَقُولُوا۟ then say faqūlū
then say ٱشْهَدُوا۟ Bear witness ish'hadū
Bear witness بِأَنَّا that we bi-annā
that we مُسْلِمُونَ (are) Muslims mus'limūna
(are) Muslims ٦٤ (64)
(64)
Say, "O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you - that we will not worship except Allāh and not associate anything with Him and not take one another as lords instead of Allāh."1 But if they turn away, then say, "Bear witness that we are Muslims [submitting to Him]."
3:65
يَـٰٓأَهْلَ O People yāahla
O People ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book لِمَ Why lima
Why تُحَآجُّونَ (do) you argue tuḥājjūna
(do) you argue فِىٓ concerning fī
concerning إِبْرَٰهِيمَ Ibrahim ib'rāhīma
Ibrahim وَمَآ while not wamā
while not أُنزِلَتِ was revealed unzilati
was revealed ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةُ the Taurat l-tawrātu
the Taurat وَٱلْإِنجِيلُ and the Injeel wal-injīlu
and the Injeel إِلَّا except illā
except مِنۢ from min
from بَعْدِهِۦٓ ۚ after him baʿdihi
after him أَفَلَا Then why don't afalā
Then why don't تَعْقِلُونَ you use your intellect taʿqilūna
you use your intellect ٦٥ (65)
(65)
O People of the Scripture, why do you argue about Abraham while the Torah and the Gospel were not revealed until after him? Then will you not reason?
3:66
هَـٰٓأَنتُمْ Here you are hāantum
Here you are هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ those who hāulāi
those who حَـٰجَجْتُمْ argued ḥājajtum
argued فِيمَا about what fīmā
about what لَكُم [for] you lakum
[for] you بِهِۦ of it bihi
of it عِلْمٌۭ (have some) knowledge ʿil'mun
(have some) knowledge فَلِمَ Then why falima
Then why تُحَآجُّونَ (do) you argue tuḥājjūna
(do) you argue فِيمَا about what fīmā
about what لَيْسَ not laysa
not لَكُم for you lakum
for you بِهِۦ of it bihi
of it عِلْمٌۭ ۚ (any) knowledge ʿil'mun
(any) knowledge وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah يَعْلَمُ knows yaʿlamu
knows وَأَنتُمْ while you wa-antum
while you لَا (do) not lā
(do) not تَعْلَمُونَ know taʿlamūna
know ٦٦ (66)
(66)
Here you are - those who have argued about that of which you have [some] knowledge, but why do you argue about that of which you have no knowledge? And Allāh knows, while you know not.
3:67
مَا Not mā
Not كَانَ was kāna
was إِبْرَٰهِيمُ Ibrahim ib'rāhīmu
Ibrahim يَهُودِيًّۭا a Jew yahūdiyyan
a Jew وَلَا and not walā
and not نَصْرَانِيًّۭا a Christian naṣrāniyyan
a Christian وَلَـٰكِن [and] but walākin
[and] but كَانَ he was kāna
he was حَنِيفًۭا a true ḥanīfan
a true مُّسْلِمًۭا Muslim mus'liman
Muslim وَمَا and not wamā
and not كَانَ he was kāna
he was مِنَ from mina
from ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ the polytheists l-mush'rikīna
the polytheists ٦٧ (67)
(67)
Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was one inclining toward truth, a Muslim [submitting to Allāh]. And he was not of the polytheists.
3:68
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed أَوْلَى the best to claim relationship awlā
the best to claim relationship ٱلنَّاسِ (of) people l-nāsi
(of) people بِإِبْرَٰهِيمَ with Ibrahim bi-ib'rāhīma
with Ibrahim لَلَّذِينَ (are) those who lalladhīna
(are) those who ٱتَّبَعُوهُ follow him ittabaʿūhu
follow him وَهَـٰذَا and this wahādhā
and this ٱلنَّبِىُّ [the] Prophet l-nabiyu
[the] Prophet وَٱلَّذِينَ and those who wa-alladhīna
and those who ءَامَنُوا۟ ۗ believe[d] āmanū
believe[d] وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah وَلِىُّ (is) a Guardian waliyyu
(is) a Guardian ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ (of) the believers l-mu'minīna
(of) the believers ٦٨ (68)
(68)
Indeed, the most worthy of Abraham among the people are those who followed him [in submission to Allāh] and this prophet [i.e., Muḥammad (ﷺ)] and those who believe [in his message]. And Allāh is the Ally of the believers.
3:69
وَدَّت Wished waddat
Wished طَّآئِفَةٌۭ a group ṭāifatun
a group مِّنْ from min
from أَهْلِ (the) People ahli
(the) People ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book لَوْ if law
if يُضِلُّونَكُمْ they could lead you astray yuḍillūnakum
they could lead you astray وَمَا and not wamā
and not يُضِلُّونَ they lead astray yuḍillūna
they lead astray إِلَّآ except illā
except أَنفُسَهُمْ themselves anfusahum
themselves وَمَا and not wamā
and not يَشْعُرُونَ they perceive yashʿurūna
they perceive ٦٩ (69)
(69)
A faction of the People of the Scripture wish they could mislead you. But they do not mislead except themselves, and they perceive [it] not.
3:70
يَـٰٓأَهْلَ O People yāahla
O People ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book لِمَ Why do lima
Why do تَكْفُرُونَ you deny takfurūna
you deny بِـَٔايَـٰتِ [in] the Signs biāyāti
[in] the Signs ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah وَأَنتُمْ while you wa-antum
while you تَشْهَدُونَ bear witness tashhadūna
bear witness ٧٠ (70)
(70)
O People of the Scripture, why do you disbelieve in the verses of Allāh while you witness [to their truth]?
3:71
يَـٰٓأَهْلَ O People yāahla
O People ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book لِمَ Why lima
Why تَلْبِسُونَ do you mix talbisūna
do you mix ٱلْحَقَّ the truth l-ḥaqa
the truth بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ with the falsehood bil-bāṭili
with the falsehood وَتَكْتُمُونَ and conceal wataktumūna
and conceal ٱلْحَقَّ the truth l-ḥaqa
the truth وَأَنتُمْ while you wa-antum
while you تَعْلَمُونَ know taʿlamūna
know ٧١ (71)
(71)
O People of the Scripture, why do you mix [i.e., confuse] the truth with falsehood and conceal the truth while you know [it]?
3:72
وَقَالَت And said waqālat
And said طَّآئِفَةٌۭ a group ṭāifatun
a group مِّنْ of min
of أَهْلِ (the) People ahli
(the) People ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book ءَامِنُوا۟ Believe āminū
Believe بِٱلَّذِىٓ in what bi-alladhī
in what أُنزِلَ was revealed unzila
was revealed عَلَى on ʿalā
on ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe[d] āmanū
believe[d] وَجْهَ (at the) beginning wajha
(at the) beginning ٱلنَّهَارِ (of) the day l-nahāri
(of) the day وَٱكْفُرُوٓا۟ and reject wa-uk'furū
and reject ءَاخِرَهُۥ (at) its end ākhirahu
(at) its end لَعَلَّهُمْ perhaps they may laʿallahum
perhaps they may يَرْجِعُونَ return yarjiʿūna
return ٧٢ (72)
(72)
And a faction of the People of the Scripture say [to each other], "Believe in that which was revealed to the believers at the beginning of the day and reject it at its end that perhaps they will return [i.e., abandon their religion],
3:73
وَلَا And (do) not walā
And (do) not تُؤْمِنُوٓا۟ believe tu'minū
believe إِلَّا except illā
except لِمَن (the one) who liman
(the one) who تَبِعَ follows tabiʿa
follows دِينَكُمْ your religion dīnakum
your religion قُلْ Say qul
Say إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱلْهُدَىٰ the (true) guidance l-hudā
the (true) guidance هُدَى (is the) Guidance hudā
(is the) Guidance ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah أَن lest an
lest يُؤْتَىٰٓ is given yu'tā
is given أَحَدٌۭ (to) one aḥadun
(to) one مِّثْلَ (the) like mith'la
(the) like مَآ (of) what mā
(of) what أُوتِيتُمْ was given to you ūtītum
was given to you أَوْ or aw
or يُحَآجُّوكُمْ they may argue with you yuḥājjūkum
they may argue with you عِندَ near ʿinda
near رَبِّكُمْ ۗ your Lord rabbikum
your Lord قُلْ Say qul
Say إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱلْفَضْلَ the Bounty l-faḍla
the Bounty بِيَدِ (is) in the Hand biyadi
(is) in the Hand ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah يُؤْتِيهِ He gives it yu'tīhi
He gives it مَن (to) whom man
(to) whom يَشَآءُ ۗ He wills yashāu
He wills وَٱللَّهُ and Allah wal-lahu
and Allah وَٰسِعٌ (is) All-Encompassing wāsiʿun
(is) All-Encompassing عَلِيمٌۭ All-Knowing ʿalīmun
All-Knowing ٧٣ (73)
(73)
And do not trust except those who follow your religion." Say, "Indeed, the [true] guidance is the guidance of Allāh. [Do you fear] lest someone be given [knowledge] like you were given or that they would [thereby] argue with you before your Lord?" Say, "Indeed, [all] bounty is in the hand of Allāh - He grants it to whom He wills. And Allāh is all-Encompassing and Wise."
3:74
يَخْتَصُّ He chooses yakhtaṣṣu
He chooses بِرَحْمَتِهِۦ for His Mercy biraḥmatihi
for His Mercy مَن whom man
whom يَشَآءُ ۗ He wills yashāu
He wills وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah ذُو (is) the Possessor dhū
(is) the Possessor ٱلْفَضْلِ (of) Bounty l-faḍli
(of) Bounty ٱلْعَظِيمِ [the] great l-ʿaẓīmi
[the] great ٧٤ (74)
(74)
He selects for His mercy whom He wills. And Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.
3:75
۞ وَمِنْ And from wamin
And from أَهْلِ (the) People ahli
(the) People ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book مَنْ (is he) who man
(is he) who إِن if in
if تَأْمَنْهُ you entrust him tamanhu
you entrust him بِقِنطَارٍۢ with a great amount of wealth biqinṭārin
with a great amount of wealth يُؤَدِّهِۦٓ he will return it yu-addihi
he will return it إِلَيْكَ to you ilayka
to you وَمِنْهُم And from them wamin'hum
And from them مَّنْ (is he) who man
(is he) who إِن if in
if تَأْمَنْهُ you entrust him tamanhu
you entrust him بِدِينَارٍۢ with a single coin bidīnārin
with a single coin لَّا not lā
not يُؤَدِّهِۦٓ he will return it yu-addihi
he will return it إِلَيْكَ to you ilayka
to you إِلَّا except illā
except مَا that mā
that دُمْتَ you keep constantly dum'ta
you keep constantly عَلَيْهِ over him ʿalayhi
over him قَآئِمًۭا ۗ standing qāiman
standing ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That بِأَنَّهُمْ (is) because they bi-annahum
(is) because they قَالُوا۟ said qālū
said لَيْسَ Not laysa
Not عَلَيْنَا on us ʿalaynā
on us فِى concerning fī
concerning ٱلْأُمِّيِّـۧنَ the unlettered people l-umiyīna
the unlettered people سَبِيلٌۭ any [way] (accountability) sabīlun
any [way] (accountability) وَيَقُولُونَ And they say wayaqūlūna
And they say عَلَى about ʿalā
about ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah ٱلْكَذِبَ the lie l-kadhiba
the lie وَهُمْ while they wahum
while they يَعْلَمُونَ know yaʿlamūna
know ٧٥ (75)
(75)
And among the People of the Scripture is he who, if you entrust him with a great amount [of wealth], he will return it to you. And among them is he who, if you entrust him with a [single] coin, he will not return it to you unless you are constantly standing over him [demanding it]. That is because they say, "There is no blame upon us concerning the unlearned."1 And they speak untruth about Allāh while they know [it].
3:76
بَلَىٰ Nay balā
Nay مَنْ whoever man
whoever أَوْفَىٰ fulfills awfā
fulfills بِعَهْدِهِۦ his covenant biʿahdihi
his covenant وَٱتَّقَىٰ and fears (Allah) wa-ittaqā
and fears (Allah) فَإِنَّ then indeed fa-inna
then indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah يُحِبُّ loves yuḥibbu
loves ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ those who fear (Him) l-mutaqīna
those who fear (Him) ٧٦ (76)
(76)
But yes, whoever fulfills his commitment and fears Allāh - then indeed, Allāh loves those who fear Him.
3:77
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who يَشْتَرُونَ exchange yashtarūna
exchange بِعَهْدِ (the) Covenant biʿahdi
(the) Covenant ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah وَأَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ and their oaths wa-aymānihim
and their oaths ثَمَنًۭا (for) a price thamanan
(for) a price قَلِيلًا little qalīlan
little أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those ulāika
those لَا no lā
no خَلَـٰقَ share khalāqa
share لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them فِى in fī
in ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ the Hereafter l-ākhirati
the Hereafter وَلَا and not walā
and not يُكَلِّمُهُمُ will speak to them yukallimuhumu
will speak to them ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah وَلَا and not walā
and not يَنظُرُ look yanẓuru
look إِلَيْهِمْ at them ilayhim
at them يَوْمَ (on the) Day yawma
(on the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection وَلَا and not walā
and not يُزَكِّيهِمْ purify them yuzakkīhim
purify them وَلَهُمْ and for them walahum
and for them عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment أَلِيمٌۭ painful alīmun
painful ٧٧ (77)
(77)
Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allāh and their [own] oaths for a small price will have no share in the Hereafter, and Allāh will not speak to them or look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them; and they will have a painful punishment.
3:78
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed مِنْهُمْ among them min'hum
among them لَفَرِيقًۭا surely (is) a group lafarīqan
surely (is) a group يَلْوُۥنَ they distort yalwūna
they distort أَلْسِنَتَهُم their tongues alsinatahum
their tongues بِٱلْكِتَـٰبِ in (reciting) the Book bil-kitābi
in (reciting) the Book لِتَحْسَبُوهُ so that you may think it litaḥsabūhu
so that you may think it مِنَ (is) from mina
(is) from ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ the Book l-kitābi
the Book وَمَا and not wamā
and not هُوَ it huwa
it مِنَ (is) from mina
(is) from ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ the Book l-kitābi
the Book وَيَقُولُونَ And they say wayaqūlūna
And they say هُوَ It huwa
It مِنْ (is) min
(is) عِندِ from ʿindi
from ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah وَمَا But not wamā
But not هُوَ it huwa
it مِنْ (is) min
(is) عِندِ from ʿindi
from ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah وَيَقُولُونَ And they say wayaqūlūna
And they say عَلَى about ʿalā
about ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah ٱلْكَذِبَ the lie l-kadhiba
the lie وَهُمْ while they wahum
while they يَعْلَمُونَ know yaʿlamūna
know ٧٨ (78)
(78)
And indeed, there is among them a party who alter the Scripture with their tongues so you may think it is from the Scripture, but it is not from the Scripture. And they say, "This is from Allāh," but it is not from Allāh. And they speak untruth about Allāh while they know.
3:79
مَا Not mā
Not كَانَ is kāna
is لِبَشَرٍ for a human libasharin
for a human أَن that an
that يُؤْتِيَهُ gives him yu'tiyahu
gives him ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book l-kitāba
the Book وَٱلْحُكْمَ and the wisdom wal-ḥuk'ma
and the wisdom وَٱلنُّبُوَّةَ and the Prophethood wal-nubuwata
and the Prophethood ثُمَّ then thumma
then يَقُولَ he says yaqūla
he says لِلنَّاسِ to the people lilnnāsi
to the people كُونُوا۟ Be kūnū
Be عِبَادًۭا worshippers ʿibādan
worshippers لِّى of me lī
of me مِن from min
from دُونِ besides dūni
besides ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah وَلَـٰكِن but (would say) walākin
but (would say) كُونُوا۟ Be kūnū
Be رَبَّـٰنِيِّـۧنَ worshippers of the Lord rabbāniyyīna
worshippers of the Lord بِمَا because bimā
because كُنتُمْ you have been kuntum
you have been تُعَلِّمُونَ teaching tuʿallimūna
teaching ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book l-kitāba
the Book وَبِمَا and because wabimā
and because كُنتُمْ you have been kuntum
you have been تَدْرُسُونَ studying (it) tadrusūna
studying (it) ٧٩ (79)
(79)
It is not for a human [prophet]1 that Allāh should give him the Scripture and authority and prophethood and then he would say to the people, "Be servants to me rather than Allāh," but [instead, he would say], "Be pious scholars of the Lord because of what you have taught of the Scripture and because of what you have studied."
3:80
وَلَا And not walā
And not يَأْمُرَكُمْ he will order you yamurakum
he will order you أَن that an
that تَتَّخِذُوا۟ you take tattakhidhū
you take ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ the Angels l-malāikata
the Angels وَٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ and the Prophets wal-nabiyīna
and the Prophets أَرْبَابًا ۗ (as) lords arbāban
(as) lords أَيَأْمُرُكُم Would he order you ayamurukum
Would he order you بِٱلْكُفْرِ to [the] disbelief bil-kuf'ri
to [the] disbelief بَعْدَ after baʿda
after إِذْ [when] idh
[when] أَنتُم you (have become) antum
you (have become) مُّسْلِمُونَ Muslims mus'limūna
Muslims ٨٠ (80)
(80)
Nor could he order you to take the angels and prophets as lords. Would he order you to disbelief after you had been Muslims?
3:81
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when أَخَذَ took akhadha
took ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah مِيثَـٰقَ covenant mīthāqa
covenant ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ (of) the Prophets l-nabiyīna
(of) the Prophets لَمَآ Certainly, whatever lamā
Certainly, whatever ءَاتَيْتُكُم I (have) given you ātaytukum
I (have) given you مِّن of min
of كِتَـٰبٍۢ (the) Book kitābin
(the) Book وَحِكْمَةٍۢ and wisdom waḥik'matin
and wisdom ثُمَّ then thumma
then جَآءَكُمْ comes to you jāakum
comes to you رَسُولٌۭ a Messenger rasūlun
a Messenger مُّصَدِّقٌۭ confirming muṣaddiqun
confirming لِّمَا that which limā
that which مَعَكُمْ (is) with you maʿakum
(is) with you لَتُؤْمِنُنَّ you must believe latu'minunna
you must believe بِهِۦ in him bihi
in him وَلَتَنصُرُنَّهُۥ ۚ and you must help him walatanṣurunnahu
and you must help him قَالَ He said qāla
He said ءَأَقْرَرْتُمْ Do you affirm a-aqrartum
Do you affirm وَأَخَذْتُمْ and take wa-akhadhtum
and take عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on ذَٰلِكُمْ that (condition) dhālikum
that (condition) إِصْرِى ۖ My Covenant iṣ'rī
My Covenant قَالُوٓا۟ They said qālū
They said أَقْرَرْنَا ۚ We affirm aqrarnā
We affirm قَالَ He said qāla
He said فَٱشْهَدُوا۟ Then bear witness fa-ish'hadū
Then bear witness وَأَنَا۠ and I (am) wa-anā
and I (am) مَعَكُم with you maʿakum
with you مِّنَ among mina
among ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ the witnesses l-shāhidīna
the witnesses ٨١ (81)
(81)
And [recall, O People of the Scripture], when Allāh took the covenant of the prophets, [saying], "Whatever I give you of the Scripture and wisdom and then there comes to you a messenger confirming what is with you, you [must] believe in him and support him." [Allāh] said, "Have you acknowledged and taken upon that My commitment?"1 They said, "We have acknowledged it." He said, "Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses."
3:82
فَمَن Then whoever faman
Then whoever تَوَلَّىٰ turns away tawallā
turns away بَعْدَ after baʿda
after ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those fa-ulāika
then those هُمُ they humu
they ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ (are) the defiantly disobedient l-fāsiqūna
(are) the defiantly disobedient ٨٢ (82)
(82)
And whoever turned away after that - they were the defiantly disobedient.
3:83
أَفَغَيْرَ So is (it) other than afaghayra
So is (it) other than دِينِ (the) religion dīni
(the) religion ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah يَبْغُونَ they seek yabghūna
they seek وَلَهُۥٓ While to Him walahu
While to Him أَسْلَمَ (have) submitted aslama
(have) submitted مَن whatever man
whatever فِى (is) in fī
(is) in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth طَوْعًۭا willingly ṭawʿan
willingly وَكَرْهًۭا or unwillingly wakarhan
or unwillingly وَإِلَيْهِ and towards Him wa-ilayhi
and towards Him يُرْجَعُونَ they will be returned yur'jaʿūna
they will be returned ٨٣ (83)
(83)
So is it other than the religion of Allāh they desire, while to Him have submitted [all] those within the heavens and earth, willingly or by compulsion, and to Him they will be returned?
3:84
قُلْ Say qul
Say ءَامَنَّا We believed āmannā
We believed بِٱللَّهِ in Allah bil-lahi
in Allah وَمَآ and what wamā
and what أُنزِلَ (is) revealed unzila
(is) revealed عَلَيْنَا on us ʿalaynā
on us وَمَآ and what wamā
and what أُنزِلَ was revealed unzila
was revealed عَلَىٰٓ on ʿalā
on إِبْرَٰهِيمَ Ibrahim ib'rāhīma
Ibrahim وَإِسْمَـٰعِيلَ and Ishmael wa-is'māʿīla
and Ishmael وَإِسْحَـٰقَ and Isaac wa-is'ḥāqa
and Isaac وَيَعْقُوبَ and Yaqub wayaʿqūba
and Yaqub وَٱلْأَسْبَاطِ and the descendents wal-asbāṭi
and the descendents وَمَآ and what wamā
and what أُوتِىَ was given ūtiya
was given مُوسَىٰ (to) Musa mūsā
(to) Musa وَعِيسَىٰ and Isa waʿīsā
and Isa وَٱلنَّبِيُّونَ and the Prophets wal-nabiyūna
and the Prophets مِن from min
from رَّبِّهِمْ their Lord rabbihim
their Lord لَا Not lā
Not نُفَرِّقُ we make distinction nufarriqu
we make distinction بَيْنَ between bayna
between أَحَدٍۢ any aḥadin
any مِّنْهُمْ of them min'hum
of them وَنَحْنُ and we wanaḥnu
and we لَهُۥ to Him lahu
to Him مُسْلِمُونَ (are) submissive mus'limūna
(are) submissive ٨٤ (84)
(84)
Say, "We have believed in Allāh and in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants [al-Asbāṭ], and in what was given to Moses and Jesus and to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [submitting] to Him."
3:85
وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever يَبْتَغِ seeks yabtaghi
seeks غَيْرَ other than ghayra
other than ٱلْإِسْلَـٰمِ [the] Islam l-is'lāmi
[the] Islam دِينًۭا (as) religion dīnan
(as) religion فَلَن then never falan
then never يُقْبَلَ will be accepted yuq'bala
will be accepted مِنْهُ from him min'hu
from him وَهُوَ and he wahuwa
and he فِى in fī
in ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ the Hereafter l-ākhirati
the Hereafter مِنَ (will be) from mina
(will be) from ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ the losers l-khāsirīna
the losers ٨٥ (85)
(85)
And whoever desires other than Islām as religion - never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.
3:86
كَيْفَ How kayfa
How يَهْدِى (shall) guide yahdī
(shall) guide ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah قَوْمًۭا a people qawman
a people كَفَرُوا۟ (who) disbelieved kafarū
(who) disbelieved بَعْدَ after baʿda
after إِيمَـٰنِهِمْ their belief īmānihim
their belief وَشَهِدُوٓا۟ and (had) witnessed washahidū
and (had) witnessed أَنَّ that anna
that ٱلرَّسُولَ the Messenger l-rasūla
the Messenger حَقٌّۭ (is) true ḥaqqun
(is) true وَجَآءَهُمُ and came to them wajāahumu
and came to them ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتُ ۚ the clear proofs l-bayinātu
the clear proofs وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah لَا (does) not lā
(does) not يَهْدِى guide yahdī
guide ٱلْقَوْمَ the people l-qawma
the people ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ [the] wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
[the] wrongdoers ٨٦ (86)
(86)
How shall Allāh guide a people who disbelieved after their belief and had witnessed that the Messenger is true and clear signs had come to them? And Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people.
3:87
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those جَزَآؤُهُمْ their recompense jazāuhum
their recompense أَنَّ that anna
that عَلَيْهِمْ on them ʿalayhim
on them لَعْنَةَ (is the) curse laʿnata
(is the) curse ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ and the Angels wal-malāikati
and the Angels وَٱلنَّاسِ and the people wal-nāsi
and the people أَجْمَعِينَ all together ajmaʿīna
all together ٨٧ (87)
(87)
Those - their recompense will be that upon them is the curse of Allāh and the angels and the people, all together,
3:88
خَـٰلِدِينَ (They will) abide forever khālidīna
(They will) abide forever فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it لَا Not lā
Not يُخَفَّفُ will be lightened yukhaffafu
will be lightened عَنْهُمُ for them ʿanhumu
for them ٱلْعَذَابُ the punishment l-ʿadhābu
the punishment وَلَا and not walā
and not هُمْ they hum
they يُنظَرُونَ will be reprieved yunẓarūna
will be reprieved ٨٨ (88)
(88)
Abiding eternally therein. The punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved,
3:89
إِلَّا Except illā
Except ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who تَابُوا۟ repent tābū
repent مِنۢ from min
from بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that وَأَصْلَحُوا۟ and reform[ed] themselves wa-aṣlaḥū
and reform[ed] themselves فَإِنَّ Then indeed fa-inna
Then indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah غَفُورٌۭ (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun
(is) Oft-Forgiving رَّحِيمٌ Most Merciful raḥīmun
Most Merciful ٨٩ (89)
(89)
Except for those who repent after that and correct themselves. For indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
3:90
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved بَعْدَ after baʿda
after إِيمَـٰنِهِمْ their belief īmānihim
their belief ثُمَّ then thumma
then ٱزْدَادُوا۟ they increased iz'dādū
they increased كُفْرًۭا (in) disbelief kuf'ran
(in) disbelief لَّن never lan
never تُقْبَلَ will be accepted tuq'bala
will be accepted تَوْبَتُهُمْ their repentance tawbatuhum
their repentance وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ and those wa-ulāika
and those هُمُ they humu
they ٱلضَّآلُّونَ (are) those who have gone astray l-ḍālūna
(are) those who have gone astray ٩٠ (90)
(90)
Indeed, those who disbelieve [i.e., reject the message] after their belief and then increase in disbelief - never will their [claimed] repentance be accepted, and they are the ones astray.
3:91
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve[d] kafarū
disbelieve[d] وَمَاتُوا۟ and died wamātū
and died وَهُمْ while they wahum
while they كُفَّارٌۭ (are) disbelievers kuffārun
(are) disbelievers فَلَن then never falan
then never يُقْبَلَ will be accepted yuq'bala
will be accepted مِنْ from min
from أَحَدِهِم any one of them aḥadihim
any one of them مِّلْءُ full mil'u
full ٱلْأَرْضِ earth l-arḍi
earth ذَهَبًۭا (of) gold dhahaban
(of) gold وَلَوِ [and] (even) if walawi
[and] (even) if ٱفْتَدَىٰ he offered as ransom if'tadā
he offered as ransom بِهِۦٓ ۗ it bihi
it أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment أَلِيمٌۭ painful alīmun
painful وَمَا and not wamā
and not لَهُم (will be) for them lahum
(will be) for them مِّن any min
any نَّـٰصِرِينَ helpers nāṣirīna
helpers ٩١ (91)
(91)
Indeed, those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers - never would the [whole] capacity of the earth in gold be accepted from one of them if he would [seek to] ransom himself with it. For those there will be a painful punishment, and they will have no helpers.
3:92
لَن Never lan
Never تَنَالُوا۟ will you attain tanālū
will you attain ٱلْبِرَّ [the] righteousness l-bira
[the] righteousness حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until تُنفِقُوا۟ you spend tunfiqū
you spend مِمَّا from what mimmā
from what تُحِبُّونَ ۚ you love tuḥibbūna
you love وَمَا And whatever wamā
And whatever تُنفِقُوا۟ you spend tunfiqū
you spend مِن of min
of شَىْءٍۢ a thing shayin
a thing فَإِنَّ then indeed fa-inna
then indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah بِهِۦ of it bihi
of it عَلِيمٌۭ (is) All-Knowing ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knowing ٩٢ (92)
(92)
Never will you attain the good [reward]1 until you spend [in the way of Allāh] from that which you love. And whatever you spend - indeed, Allāh is Knowing of it.
3:93
۞ كُلُّ All kullu
All ٱلطَّعَامِ [the] food l-ṭaʿāmi
[the] food كَانَ was kāna
was حِلًّۭا lawful ḥillan
lawful لِّبَنِىٓ for (the) Children libanī
for (the) Children إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ (of) Israel is'rāīla
(of) Israel إِلَّا except illā
except مَا what mā
what حَرَّمَ made unlawful ḥarrama
made unlawful إِسْرَٰٓءِيلُ Israel is'rāīlu
Israel عَلَىٰ upon ʿalā
upon نَفْسِهِۦ himself nafsihi
himself مِن from min
from قَبْلِ before qabli
before أَن [that] an
[that] تُنَزَّلَ (was) revealed tunazzala
(was) revealed ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةُ ۗ the Taurat l-tawrātu
the Taurat قُلْ Say qul
Say فَأْتُوا۟ So bring fatū
So bring بِٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ the Taurat bil-tawrāti
the Taurat فَٱتْلُوهَآ and recite it fa-it'lūhā
and recite it إِن if in
if كُنتُمْ you are kuntum
you are صَـٰدِقِينَ truthful ṣādiqīna
truthful ٩٣ (93)
(93)
All food was lawful to the Children of Israel except what Israel [i.e., Jacob] had made unlawful to himself before the Torah was revealed. Say, [O Muḥammad], "So bring the Torah and recite it, if you should be truthful."
3:94
فَمَنِ Then whoever famani
Then whoever ٱفْتَرَىٰ fabricates if'tarā
fabricates عَلَى about ʿalā
about ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah ٱلْكَذِبَ [the] lie l-kadhiba
[the] lie مِنۢ from min
from بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those fa-ulāika
then those هُمُ they humu
they ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ (are) the wrongdoers l-ẓālimūna
(are) the wrongdoers ٩٤ (94)
(94)
And whoever invents about Allāh untruth after that - then those are [truly] the wrongdoers.
3:95
قُلْ Say qul
Say صَدَقَ (has) spoken the truth ṣadaqa
(has) spoken the truth ٱللَّهُ ۗ Allah l-lahu
Allah فَٱتَّبِعُوا۟ then follow fa-ittabiʿū
then follow مِلَّةَ (the) religion millata
(the) religion إِبْرَٰهِيمَ (of) Ibrahim ib'rāhīma
(of) Ibrahim حَنِيفًۭا (the) upright ḥanīfan
(the) upright وَمَا and not wamā
and not كَانَ he was kāna
he was مِنَ of mina
of ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ the polytheists l-mush'rikīna
the polytheists ٩٥ (95)
(95)
Say, "Allāh has told the truth. So follow the religion of Abraham, inclining toward truth; and he was not of the polytheists."1
3:96
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed أَوَّلَ (the) First awwala
(the) First بَيْتٍۢ House baytin
House وُضِعَ set up wuḍiʿa
set up لِلنَّاسِ for the mankind lilnnāsi
for the mankind لَلَّذِى (is) the one which lalladhī
(is) the one which بِبَكَّةَ (is) at Bakkah bibakkata
(is) at Bakkah مُبَارَكًۭا blessed mubārakan
blessed وَهُدًۭى and a guidance wahudan
and a guidance لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ for the worlds lil'ʿālamīna
for the worlds ٩٦ (96)
(96)
Indeed, the first House [of worship] established for mankind was that at Bakkah [i.e., Makkah] - blessed and a guidance for the worlds.
3:97
فِيهِ In it fīhi
In it ءَايَـٰتٌۢ (are) signs āyātun
(are) signs بَيِّنَـٰتٌۭ clear bayyinātun
clear مَّقَامُ standing place maqāmu
standing place إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ۖ (of) Ibrahim ib'rāhīma
(of) Ibrahim وَمَن and whoever waman
and whoever دَخَلَهُۥ enters it dakhalahu
enters it كَانَ is kāna
is ءَامِنًۭا ۗ safe āminan
safe وَلِلَّهِ And (due) to Allah walillahi
And (due) to Allah عَلَى upon ʿalā
upon ٱلنَّاسِ the mankind l-nāsi
the mankind حِجُّ (is) pilgrimage ḥijju
(is) pilgrimage ٱلْبَيْتِ (of) the House l-bayti
(of) the House مَنِ (for one) who mani
(for one) who ٱسْتَطَاعَ is able is'taṭāʿa
is able إِلَيْهِ to [it] ilayhi
to [it] سَبِيلًۭا ۚ (find) a way sabīlan
(find) a way وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever كَفَرَ disbelieved kafara
disbelieved فَإِنَّ then indeed fa-inna
then indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah غَنِىٌّ (is) free from need ghaniyyun
(is) free from need عَنِ of ʿani
of ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ the universe l-ʿālamīna
the universe ٩٧ (97)
(97)
In it are clear signs [such as] the standing place of Abraham. And whoever enters it [i.e., the Ḥaram] shall be safe. And [due] to Allāh from the people is a pilgrimage to the House - for whoever is able to find thereto a way. But whoever disbelieves [i.e., refuses] - then indeed, Allāh is free from need of the worlds.
3:98
قُلْ Say qul
Say يَـٰٓأَهْلَ O People yāahla
O People ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book لِمَ Why lima
Why تَكْفُرُونَ (do) you disbelieve takfurūna
(do) you disbelieve بِـَٔايَـٰتِ in (the) Verses biāyāti
in (the) Verses ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah وَٱللَّهُ while Allah wal-lahu
while Allah شَهِيدٌ (is) a Witness shahīdun
(is) a Witness عَلَىٰ over ʿalā
over مَا what mā
what تَعْمَلُونَ you do taʿmalūna
you do ٩٨ (98)
(98)
Say, "O People of the Scripture, why do you disbelieve in the verses of Allāh while Allāh is Witness over what you do?"
3:99
قُلْ Say qul
Say يَـٰٓأَهْلَ O People yāahla
O People ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book لِمَ Why lima
Why تَصُدُّونَ (do) you hinder taṣuddūna
(do) you hinder عَن from ʿan
from سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah مَنْ (those) who man
(those) who ءَامَنَ believe[d] āmana
believe[d] تَبْغُونَهَا seeking (to make) it tabghūnahā
seeking (to make) it عِوَجًۭا (seem) crooked ʿiwajan
(seem) crooked وَأَنتُمْ while you wa-antum
while you شُهَدَآءُ ۗ (are) witnesses shuhadāu
(are) witnesses وَمَا And not wamā
And not ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah بِغَـٰفِلٍ (is) unaware bighāfilin
(is) unaware عَمَّا of what ʿammā
of what تَعْمَلُونَ you do taʿmalūna
you do ٩٩ (99)
(99)
Say, "O People of the Scripture, why do you avert from the way of Allāh those who believe, seeking to make it [seem] deviant, while you are witnesses [to the truth]? And Allāh is not unaware of what you do."
3:100
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā
O you ٱلَّذِينَ who alladhīna
who ءَامَنُوٓا۟ believe[d] āmanū
believe[d] إِن If in
If تُطِيعُوا۟ you obey tuṭīʿū
you obey فَرِيقًۭا a group farīqan
a group مِّنَ from mina
from ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who أُوتُوا۟ were given ūtū
were given ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book l-kitāba
the Book يَرُدُّوكُم they will turn you back yaruddūkum
they will turn you back بَعْدَ after baʿda
after إِيمَـٰنِكُمْ your belief īmānikum
your belief كَـٰفِرِينَ (as) disbelievers kāfirīna
(as) disbelievers ١٠٠ (100)
(100)
O you who have believed, if you obey a party of those who were given the Scripture, they would turn you back, after your belief, [to being] unbelievers.
3:101
وَكَيْفَ And how (could) wakayfa
And how (could) تَكْفُرُونَ you disbelieve takfurūna
you disbelieve وَأَنتُمْ while [you] wa-antum
while [you] تُتْلَىٰ is recited tut'lā
is recited عَلَيْكُمْ upon you ʿalaykum
upon you ءَايَـٰتُ (the) Verses āyātu
(the) Verses ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah وَفِيكُمْ and among you wafīkum
and among you رَسُولُهُۥ ۗ (is) His Messenger rasūluhu
(is) His Messenger وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever يَعْتَصِم holds firmly yaʿtaṣim
holds firmly بِٱللَّهِ to Allah bil-lahi
to Allah فَقَدْ then surely faqad
then surely هُدِىَ he is guided hudiya
he is guided إِلَىٰ to ilā
to صِرَٰطٍۢ a path ṣirāṭin
a path مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ straight mus'taqīmin
straight ١٠١ (101)
(101)
And how could you disbelieve while to you are being recited the verses of Allāh and among you is His Messenger? And whoever holds firmly to Allāh has [indeed] been guided to a straight path.
3:102
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā
O you ٱلَّذِينَ who alladhīna
who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe[d] āmanū
believe[d] ٱتَّقُوا۟ Fear ittaqū
Fear ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah حَقَّ (as is His) right ḥaqqa
(as is His) right تُقَاتِهِۦ (that) He (should) be feared tuqātihi
(that) He (should) be feared وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not تَمُوتُنَّ die tamūtunna
die إِلَّا except illā
except وَأَنتُم [while you] wa-antum
[while you] مُّسْلِمُونَ (as) Muslims mus'limūna
(as) Muslims ١٠٢ (102)
(102)
O you who have believed, fear Allāh as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].
3:103
وَٱعْتَصِمُوا۟ And hold firmly wa-iʿ'taṣimū
And hold firmly بِحَبْلِ to (the) rope biḥabli
to (the) rope ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah جَمِيعًۭا all together jamīʿan
all together وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not تَفَرَّقُوا۟ ۚ be divided tafarraqū
be divided وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ And remember wa-udh'kurū
And remember نِعْمَتَ (the) Favor niʿ'mata
(the) Favor ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah عَلَيْكُمْ on you ʿalaykum
on you إِذْ when idh
when كُنتُمْ you were kuntum
you were أَعْدَآءًۭ enemies aʿdāan
enemies فَأَلَّفَ then He made friendship fa-allafa
then He made friendship بَيْنَ between bayna
between قُلُوبِكُمْ your hearts qulūbikum
your hearts فَأَصْبَحْتُم then you became fa-aṣbaḥtum
then you became بِنِعْمَتِهِۦٓ by His Favor biniʿ'matihi
by His Favor إِخْوَٰنًۭا brothers ikh'wānan
brothers وَكُنتُمْ And you were wakuntum
And you were عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on شَفَا (the) brink shafā
(the) brink حُفْرَةٍۢ (of) pit ḥuf'ratin
(of) pit مِّنَ of mina
of ٱلنَّارِ the Fire l-nāri
the Fire فَأَنقَذَكُم then He saved you fa-anqadhakum
then He saved you مِّنْهَا ۗ from it min'hā
from it كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika
Thus يُبَيِّنُ makes clear yubayyinu
makes clear ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah لَكُمْ for you lakum
for you ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ His Verses āyātihi
His Verses لَعَلَّكُمْ so that you may laʿallakum
so that you may تَهْتَدُونَ (be) guided tahtadūna
(be) guided ١٠٣ (103)
(103)
And hold firmly to the rope of Allāh all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of Allāh upon you - when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers. And you were on the edge of a pit of the Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus does Allāh make clear to you His verses that you may be guided.
3:104
وَلْتَكُن And let there be waltakun
And let there be مِّنكُمْ among you minkum
among you أُمَّةٌۭ [a] people ummatun
[a] people يَدْعُونَ inviting yadʿūna
inviting إِلَى to ilā
to ٱلْخَيْرِ the good l-khayri
the good وَيَأْمُرُونَ [and] enjoining wayamurūna
[and] enjoining بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ the right bil-maʿrūfi
the right وَيَنْهَوْنَ and forbidding wayanhawna
and forbidding عَنِ from ʿani
from ٱلْمُنكَرِ ۚ the wrong l-munkari
the wrong وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ and those wa-ulāika
and those هُمُ they humu
they ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ (are) the successful ones l-muf'liḥūna
(are) the successful ones ١٠٤ (104)
(104)
And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and those will be the successful.
3:105
وَلَا And (do) not walā
And (do) not تَكُونُوا۟ be takūnū
be كَٱلَّذِينَ like those who ka-alladhīna
like those who تَفَرَّقُوا۟ became divided tafarraqū
became divided وَٱخْتَلَفُوا۟ and differed wa-ikh'talafū
and differed مِنۢ from min
from بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after مَا what mā
what جَآءَهُمُ came to them jāahumu
came to them ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتُ ۚ the clear proofs l-bayinātu
the clear proofs وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ And those wa-ulāika
And those لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment عَظِيمٌۭ great ʿaẓīmun
great ١٠٥ (105)
(105)
And do not be like the ones who became divided and differed after the clear proofs had come to them. And those will have a great punishment
3:106
يَوْمَ (On the) Day yawma
(On the) Day تَبْيَضُّ would become white tabyaḍḍu
would become white وُجُوهٌۭ (some) faces wujūhun
(some) faces وَتَسْوَدُّ and would become black wataswaddu
and would become black وُجُوهٌۭ ۚ (some) faces wujūhun
(some) faces فَأَمَّا As for fa-ammā
As for ٱلَّذِينَ those whose alladhīna
those whose ٱسْوَدَّتْ turn black is'waddat
turn black وُجُوهُهُمْ [their] faces wujūhuhum
[their] faces أَكَفَرْتُم Did you disbelieve akafartum
Did you disbelieve بَعْدَ after baʿda
after إِيمَـٰنِكُمْ your belief īmānikum
your belief فَذُوقُوا۟ Then taste fadhūqū
Then taste ٱلْعَذَابَ the punishment l-ʿadhāba
the punishment بِمَا for what bimā
for what كُنتُمْ you used to kuntum
you used to تَكْفُرُونَ disbelieve takfurūna
disbelieve ١٠٦ (106)
(106)
On the Day [some] faces will turn white and [some] faces will turn black. As for those whose faces turn black, [to them it will be said], "Did you disbelieve [i.e., reject faith] after your belief? Then taste the punishment for what you used to reject."
3:107
وَأَمَّا But as for wa-ammā
But as for ٱلَّذِينَ those whose alladhīna
those whose ٱبْيَضَّتْ turn white ib'yaḍḍat
turn white وُجُوهُهُمْ [their] faces wujūhuhum
[their] faces فَفِى then (they will be) in fafī
then (they will be) in رَحْمَةِ (the) Mercy raḥmati
(the) Mercy ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah هُمْ they hum
they فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it خَـٰلِدُونَ (will) abide forever khālidūna
(will) abide forever ١٠٧ (107)
(107)
But as for those whose faces turn white, [they will be] within the mercy of Allāh. They will abide therein eternally.
3:108
تِلْكَ These til'ka
These ءَايَـٰتُ (are the) Verses āyātu
(are the) Verses ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah نَتْلُوهَا We recite them natlūhā
We recite them عَلَيْكَ to you ʿalayka
to you بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ in truth bil-ḥaqi
in truth وَمَا And not wamā
And not ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah يُرِيدُ wants yurīdu
wants ظُلْمًۭا injustice ẓul'man
injustice لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ to the worlds lil'ʿālamīna
to the worlds ١٠٨ (108)
(108)
These are the verses of Allāh. We recite them to you, [O Muḥammad], in truth; and Allāh wants no injustice to the worlds [i.e., His creatures].
3:109
وَلِلَّهِ And to Allah (belongs) walillahi
And to Allah (belongs) مَا whatever mā
whatever فِى (is) in fī
(is) in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens وَمَا and whatever wamā
and whatever فِى (is) in fī
(is) in ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ the earth l-arḍi
the earth وَإِلَى And to wa-ilā
And to ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah تُرْجَعُ will be returned tur'jaʿu
will be returned ٱلْأُمُورُ the matters l-umūru
the matters ١٠٩ (109)
(109)
To Allāh belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And to Allāh will [all] matters be returned.
3:110
كُنتُمْ You are kuntum
You are خَيْرَ (the) best khayra
(the) best أُمَّةٍ (of) people ummatin
(of) people أُخْرِجَتْ raised ukh'rijat
raised لِلنَّاسِ for the mankind lilnnāsi
for the mankind تَأْمُرُونَ enjoining tamurūna
enjoining بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ the right bil-maʿrūfi
the right وَتَنْهَوْنَ and forbidding watanhawna
and forbidding عَنِ [from] ʿani
[from] ٱلْمُنكَرِ the wrong l-munkari
the wrong وَتُؤْمِنُونَ and believing watu'minūna
and believing بِٱللَّهِ ۗ in Allah bil-lahi
in Allah وَلَوْ And if walaw
And if ءَامَنَ believed āmana
believed أَهْلُ (the) People ahlu
(the) People ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book لَكَانَ surely would have been lakāna
surely would have been خَيْرًۭا good khayran
good لَّهُم ۚ for them lahum
for them مِّنْهُمُ Among them min'humu
Among them ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ (are) [the] believers l-mu'minūna
(are) [the] believers وَأَكْثَرُهُمُ but most of them wa-aktharuhumu
but most of them ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ (are) defiantly disobedient l-fāsiqūna
(are) defiantly disobedient ١١٠ (110)
(110)
You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allāh. If only the People of the Scripture had believed, it would have been better for them. Among them are believers, but most of them are defiantly disobedient.
3:111
لَن Never lan
Never يَضُرُّوكُمْ will they harm you yaḍurrūkum
will they harm you إِلَّآ except illā
except أَذًۭى ۖ a hurt adhan
a hurt وَإِن And if wa-in
And if يُقَـٰتِلُوكُمْ they fight you yuqātilūkum
they fight you يُوَلُّوكُمُ they will turn (towards) you yuwallūkumu
they will turn (towards) you ٱلْأَدْبَارَ the backs l-adbāra
the backs ثُمَّ then thumma
then لَا not lā
not يُنصَرُونَ they will be helped yunṣarūna
they will be helped ١١١ (111)
(111)
They will not harm you except for [some] annoyance. And if they fight you, they will show you their backs [i.e., retreat]; then they will not be aided.
3:112
ضُرِبَتْ Struck ḍuribat
Struck عَلَيْهِمُ on them ʿalayhimu
on them ٱلذِّلَّةُ the humiliation l-dhilatu
the humiliation أَيْنَ wherever ayna
wherever مَا that mā
that ثُقِفُوٓا۟ they are found thuqifū
they are found إِلَّا except illā
except بِحَبْلٍۢ with a rope biḥablin
with a rope مِّنَ from mina
from ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah وَحَبْلٍۢ and a rope waḥablin
and a rope مِّنَ from mina
from ٱلنَّاسِ the people l-nāsi
the people وَبَآءُو And they incurred wabāū
And they incurred بِغَضَبٍۢ wrath bighaḍabin
wrath مِّنَ from mina
from ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah وَضُرِبَتْ and struck waḍuribat
and struck عَلَيْهِمُ on them ʿalayhimu
on them ٱلْمَسْكَنَةُ ۚ the poverty l-maskanatu
the poverty ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That بِأَنَّهُمْ (is) because bi-annahum
(is) because كَانُوا۟ they used to kānū
they used to يَكْفُرُونَ disbelieve yakfurūna
disbelieve بِـَٔايَـٰتِ in (the) Verses biāyāti
in (the) Verses ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah وَيَقْتُلُونَ and they killed wayaqtulūna
and they killed ٱلْأَنۢبِيَآءَ the Prophets l-anbiyāa
the Prophets بِغَيْرِ without bighayri
without حَقٍّۢ ۚ right ḥaqqin
right ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That بِمَا (is) because bimā
(is) because عَصَوا۟ they disobeyed ʿaṣaw
they disobeyed وَّكَانُوا۟ and they used to wakānū
and they used to يَعْتَدُونَ transgress yaʿtadūna
transgress ١١٢ (112)
(112)
They have been put under humiliation [by Allāh] wherever they are overtaken, except for a rope [i.e., covenant] from Allāh and a rope [i.e., treaty] from the people [i.e., the Muslims]. And they have drawn upon themselves anger from Allāh and have been put under destitution. That is because they disbelieved in [i.e., rejected] the verses of Allāh and killed the prophets without right. That is because they disobeyed and [habitually] transgressed.
3:113
۞ لَيْسُوا۟ They are not laysū
They are not سَوَآءًۭ ۗ (the) same sawāan
(the) same مِّنْ among min
among أَهْلِ (the) People ahli
(the) People ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book أُمَّةٌۭ (is) a community ummatun
(is) a community قَآئِمَةٌۭ standing qāimatun
standing يَتْلُونَ (and) reciting yatlūna
(and) reciting ءَايَـٰتِ (the) Verses āyāti
(the) Verses ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah ءَانَآءَ (in the) hours ānāa
(in the) hours ٱلَّيْلِ (of) the night al-layli
(of) the night وَهُمْ and they wahum
and they يَسْجُدُونَ prostrate yasjudūna
prostrate ١١٣ (113)
(113)
They are not [all] the same; among the People of the Scripture is a community standing [in obedience], reciting the verses of Allāh during periods of the night and prostrating [in prayer].
3:114
يُؤْمِنُونَ They believe yu'minūna
They believe بِٱللَّهِ in Allah bil-lahi
in Allah وَٱلْيَوْمِ and the Day wal-yawmi
and the Day ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ the Last l-ākhiri
the Last وَيَأْمُرُونَ and they enjoin wayamurūna
and they enjoin بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ [with] the right bil-maʿrūfi
[with] the right وَيَنْهَوْنَ and forbid wayanhawna
and forbid عَنِ [from] ʿani
[from] ٱلْمُنكَرِ the wrong l-munkari
the wrong وَيُسَـٰرِعُونَ and they hasten wayusāriʿūna
and they hasten فِى in fī
in ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ the good deeds l-khayrāti
the good deeds وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ And those wa-ulāika
And those مِنَ (are) from mina
(are) from ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ the righteous l-ṣāliḥīna
the righteous ١١٤ (114)
(114)
They believe in Allāh and the Last Day, and they enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and hasten to good deeds. And those are among the righteous.
3:115
وَمَا And whatever wamā
And whatever يَفْعَلُوا۟ they do yafʿalū
they do مِنْ of min
of خَيْرٍۢ a good khayrin
a good فَلَن then never falan
then never يُكْفَرُوهُ ۗ will they be denied it yuk'farūhu
will they be denied it وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah عَلِيمٌۢ (is) All-Knowing ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knowing بِٱلْمُتَّقِينَ of the God-fearing bil-mutaqīna
of the God-fearing ١١٥ (115)
(115)
And whatever good they do - never will it be denied them. And Allāh is Knowing of the righteous.
3:116
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved لَن never lan
never تُغْنِىَ will avail tugh'niya
will avail عَنْهُمْ [for] them ʿanhum
[for] them أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ their wealth amwāluhum
their wealth وَلَآ and not walā
and not أَوْلَـٰدُهُم their children awlāduhum
their children مِّنَ against mina
against ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah شَيْـًۭٔا ۖ anything shayan
anything وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ and those wa-ulāika
and those أَصْحَـٰبُ (are the) companions aṣḥābu
(are the) companions ٱلنَّارِ ۚ (of) the Fire l-nāri
(of) the Fire هُمْ they hum
they فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it خَـٰلِدُونَ (will) abide forever khālidūna
(will) abide forever ١١٦ (116)
(116)
Indeed, those who disbelieve - never will their wealth or their children avail them against Allāh at all, and those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.
3:117
مَثَلُ Example mathalu
Example مَا (of) what mā
(of) what يُنفِقُونَ they spend yunfiqūna
they spend فِى in fī
in هَـٰذِهِ this hādhihi
this ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ [the] life l-ḥayati
[the] life ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world كَمَثَلِ (is) like (the) example kamathali
(is) like (the) example رِيحٍۢ (of) a wind rīḥin
(of) a wind فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it صِرٌّ (is) frost ṣirrun
(is) frost أَصَابَتْ it struck aṣābat
it struck حَرْثَ (the) harvest ḥartha
(the) harvest قَوْمٍۢ (of) a people qawmin
(of) a people ظَلَمُوٓا۟ who wronged ẓalamū
who wronged أَنفُسَهُمْ themselves anfusahum
themselves فَأَهْلَكَتْهُ ۚ then destroyed it fa-ahlakathu
then destroyed it وَمَا And not wamā
And not ظَلَمَهُمُ (has) wronged them ẓalamahumu
(has) wronged them ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah وَلَـٰكِنْ [and] but walākin
[and] but أَنفُسَهُمْ themselves anfusahum
themselves يَظْلِمُونَ they wronged yaẓlimūna
they wronged ١١٧ (117)
(117)
The example of what they spend in this worldly life is like that of a wind containing frost which strikes the harvest of a people who have wronged themselves [i.e., sinned] and destroys it. And Allāh has not wronged them, but they wrong themselves.
3:118
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā
O you ٱلَّذِينَ who alladhīna
who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe[d] āmanū
believe[d] لَا (Do) not lā
(Do) not تَتَّخِذُوا۟ take tattakhidhū
take بِطَانَةًۭ (as) intimates biṭānatan
(as) intimates مِّن from min
from دُونِكُمْ other than yourselves dūnikum
other than yourselves لَا not lā
not يَأْلُونَكُمْ they will spare you yalūnakum
they will spare you خَبَالًۭا (any) ruin khabālan
(any) ruin وَدُّوا۟ They wish waddū
They wish مَا what mā
what عَنِتُّمْ distresses you ʿanittum
distresses you قَدْ Indeed qad
Indeed بَدَتِ (has become) apparent badati
(has become) apparent ٱلْبَغْضَآءُ the hatred l-baghḍāu
the hatred مِنْ from min
from أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ their mouths afwāhihim
their mouths وَمَا and what wamā
and what تُخْفِى conceals tukh'fī
conceals صُدُورُهُمْ their breasts ṣudūruhum
their breasts أَكْبَرُ ۚ (is) greater akbaru
(is) greater قَدْ Certainly qad
Certainly بَيَّنَّا We made clear bayyannā
We made clear لَكُمُ for you lakumu
for you ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ ۖ the Verses l-āyāti
the Verses إِن if in
if كُنتُمْ you were kuntum
you were تَعْقِلُونَ (to use) reason taʿqilūna
(to use) reason ١١٨ (118)
(118)
O you who have believed, do not take as intimates those other than yourselves [i.e., believers], for they will not spare you [any] ruin. They wish you would have hardship. Hatred has already appeared from their mouths, and what their breasts conceal is greater. We have certainly made clear to you the signs, if you will use reason.
3:119
هَـٰٓأَنتُمْ Lo! You are hāantum
Lo! You are أُو۟لَآءِ those ulāi
those تُحِبُّونَهُمْ you love them tuḥibbūnahum
you love them وَلَا but not walā
but not يُحِبُّونَكُمْ they love you yuḥibbūnakum
they love you وَتُؤْمِنُونَ and you believe watu'minūna
and you believe بِٱلْكِتَـٰبِ in the Book bil-kitābi
in the Book كُلِّهِۦ all of it kullihi
all of it وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when لَقُوكُمْ they meet you laqūkum
they meet you قَالُوٓا۟ they say qālū
they say ءَامَنَّا We believe āmannā
We believe وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when خَلَوْا۟ they are alone khalaw
they are alone عَضُّوا۟ they bite ʿaḍḍū
they bite عَلَيْكُمُ at you ʿalaykumu
at you ٱلْأَنَامِلَ the finger tips l-anāmila
the finger tips مِنَ (out) of mina
(out) of ٱلْغَيْظِ ۚ [the] rage l-ghayẓi
[the] rage قُلْ Say qul
Say مُوتُوا۟ Die mūtū
Die بِغَيْظِكُمْ ۗ in your rage bighayẓikum
in your rage إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah عَلِيمٌۢ (is) All-Knowing ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knowing بِذَاتِ of what bidhāti
of what ٱلصُّدُورِ (is in) the breasts l-ṣudūri
(is in) the breasts ١١٩ (119)
(119)
Here you are loving them but they are not loving you, while you believe in the Scripture - all of it. And when they meet you, they say, "We believe." But when they are alone, they bite their fingertips at you in rage. Say, "Die in your rage. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing of that within the breasts."
3:120
إِن If in
If تَمْسَسْكُمْ touches you tamsaskum
touches you حَسَنَةٌۭ a good ḥasanatun
a good تَسُؤْهُمْ it grieves them tasu'hum
it grieves them وَإِن and if wa-in
and if تُصِبْكُمْ strikes you tuṣib'kum
strikes you سَيِّئَةٌۭ misfortune sayyi-atun
misfortune يَفْرَحُوا۟ they rejoice yafraḥū
they rejoice بِهَا ۖ at it bihā
at it وَإِن And if wa-in
And if تَصْبِرُوا۟ you are patient taṣbirū
you are patient وَتَتَّقُوا۟ and fear (Allah) watattaqū
and fear (Allah) لَا not lā
not يَضُرُّكُمْ will harm you yaḍurrukum
will harm you كَيْدُهُمْ their plot kayduhum
their plot شَيْـًٔا ۗ (in) anything shayan
(in) anything إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah بِمَا of what bimā
of what يَعْمَلُونَ they do yaʿmalūna
they do مُحِيطٌۭ (is) All-Encompassing muḥīṭun
(is) All-Encompassing ١٢٠ (120)
(120)
If good touches you, it distresses them; but if harm strikes you, they rejoice at it. And if you are patient and fear Allāh, their plot will not harm you at all. Indeed, Allāh is encompassing of what they do.
3:121
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when غَدَوْتَ you left early morning ghadawta
you left early morning مِنْ from min
from أَهْلِكَ your household ahlika
your household تُبَوِّئُ to post tubawwi-u
to post ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers l-mu'minīna
the believers مَقَـٰعِدَ (to take) positions maqāʿida
(to take) positions لِلْقِتَالِ ۗ for the battle lil'qitāli
for the battle وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah سَمِيعٌ (is) All-Hearing samīʿun
(is) All-Hearing عَلِيمٌ All-Knowing ʿalīmun
All-Knowing ١٢١ (121)
(121)
And [remember] when you, [O Muḥammad], left your family in the morning to post the believers at their stations for the battle [of Uḥud] - and Allāh is Hearing and Knowing -
3:122
إِذْ When idh
When هَمَّت inclined hammat
inclined طَّآئِفَتَانِ two parties ṭāifatāni
two parties مِنكُمْ among you minkum
among you أَن that an
that تَفْشَلَا they lost heart tafshalā
they lost heart وَٱللَّهُ but Allah wal-lahu
but Allah وَلِيُّهُمَا ۗ (was) their protector waliyyuhumā
(was) their protector وَعَلَى And on waʿalā
And on ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ let put (their) trust falyatawakkali
let put (their) trust ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ the believers l-mu'minūna
the believers ١٢٢ (122)
(122)
When two parties among you were about to lose courage, but Allāh was their ally; and upon Allāh the believers should rely.
3:123
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad
And certainly نَصَرَكُمُ helped you naṣarakumu
helped you ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah بِبَدْرٍۢ in Badr bibadrin
in Badr وَأَنتُمْ while you (were) wa-antum
while you (were) أَذِلَّةٌۭ ۖ weak adhillatun
weak فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear fa-ittaqū
So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah لَعَلَّكُمْ so that you may laʿallakum
so that you may تَشْكُرُونَ (be) grateful tashkurūna
(be) grateful ١٢٣ (123)
(123)
And already had Allāh given you victory at [the battle of] Badr while you were weak [i.e., few in number]. Then fear Allāh; perhaps you will be grateful.
3:124
إِذْ When idh
When تَقُولُ you said taqūlu
you said لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ to the believers lil'mu'minīna
to the believers أَلَن Is it not alan
Is it not يَكْفِيَكُمْ enough for you yakfiyakum
enough for you أَن that an
that يُمِدَّكُمْ reinforces you yumiddakum
reinforces you رَبُّكُم your Lord rabbukum
your Lord بِثَلَـٰثَةِ with three bithalāthati
with three ءَالَـٰفٍۢ thousand[s] ālāfin
thousand[s] مِّنَ [of] mina
[of] ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ [the] Angels l-malāikati
[the] Angels مُنزَلِينَ [the ones] sent down munzalīna
[the ones] sent down ١٢٤ (124)
(124)
[Remember] when you said to the believers, "Is it not sufficient for you that your Lord should reinforce you with three thousand angels sent down?
3:125
بَلَىٰٓ ۚ Yes balā
Yes إِن if in
if تَصْبِرُوا۟ you are patient taṣbirū
you are patient وَتَتَّقُوا۟ and fear (Allah) watattaqū
and fear (Allah) وَيَأْتُوكُم and they come upon you wayatūkum
and they come upon you مِّن [of] min
[of] فَوْرِهِمْ suddenly fawrihim
suddenly هَـٰذَا [this] hādhā
[this] يُمْدِدْكُمْ will reinforce you yum'did'kum
will reinforce you رَبُّكُم your Lord rabbukum
your Lord بِخَمْسَةِ with five bikhamsati
with five ءَالَـٰفٍۢ thousand[s] ālāfin
thousand[s] مِّنَ [of] mina
[of] ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ [the] Angels l-malāikati
[the] Angels مُسَوِّمِينَ [the ones] having marks musawwimīna
[the ones] having marks ١٢٥ (125)
(125)
Yes, if you remain patient and conscious of Allāh and they [i.e., the enemy] come upon you [attacking] in rage, your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand angels having marks [of distinction]."
3:126
وَمَا And not wamā
And not جَعَلَهُ made it jaʿalahu
made it ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah إِلَّا except illā
except بُشْرَىٰ (as) good news bush'rā
(as) good news لَكُمْ for you lakum
for you وَلِتَطْمَئِنَّ and to reassure walitaṭma-inna
and to reassure قُلُوبُكُم your hearts qulūbukum
your hearts بِهِۦ ۗ with it bihi
with it وَمَا And (there is) no wamā
And (there is) no ٱلنَّصْرُ [the] victory l-naṣru
[the] victory إِلَّا except illā
except مِنْ from min
from عِندِ [near] ʿindi
[near] ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah ٱلْعَزِيزِ the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzi
the All-Mighty ٱلْحَكِيمِ the All-Wise l-ḥakīmi
the All-Wise ١٢٦ (126)
(126)
And Allāh made it not except as [a sign of] good tidings for you and to reassure your hearts thereby. And victory is not except from Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Wise -
3:127
لِيَقْطَعَ That He may cut off liyaqṭaʿa
That He may cut off طَرَفًۭا a part ṭarafan
a part مِّنَ of mina
of ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who كَفَرُوٓا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved أَوْ or aw
or يَكْبِتَهُمْ suppress them yakbitahum
suppress them فَيَنقَلِبُوا۟ so (that) they turn back fayanqalibū
so (that) they turn back خَآئِبِينَ disappointed khāibīna
disappointed ١٢٧ (127)
(127)
That He might cut down a section of the disbelievers or suppress them so that they turn back disappointed.
3:128
لَيْسَ Not laysa
Not لَكَ for you laka
for you مِنَ of mina
of ٱلْأَمْرِ the decision l-amri
the decision شَىْءٌ (of) anything shayon
(of) anything أَوْ whether aw
whether يَتُوبَ He turns yatūba
He turns عَلَيْهِمْ to them ʿalayhim
to them أَوْ or aw
or يُعَذِّبَهُمْ punishes them yuʿadhibahum
punishes them فَإِنَّهُمْ for indeed, they fa-innahum
for indeed, they ظَـٰلِمُونَ (are) wrongdoers ẓālimūna
(are) wrongdoers ١٢٨ (128)
(128)
Not for you, [O Muḥammad, but for Allāh], is the decision whether He should [cut them down] or forgive them or punish them, for indeed, they are wrongdoers.
3:129
وَلِلَّهِ And to Allah (belongs) walillahi
And to Allah (belongs) مَا what mā
what فِى (is) in fī
(is) in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens وَمَا and what wamā
and what فِى (is) in fī
(is) in ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ the earth l-arḍi
the earth يَغْفِرُ He forgives yaghfiru
He forgives لِمَن [for] whom liman
[for] whom يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills وَيُعَذِّبُ and punishes wayuʿadhibu
and punishes مَن whom man
whom يَشَآءُ ۚ He wills yashāu
He wills وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah غَفُورٌۭ (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun
(is) Oft-Forgiving رَّحِيمٌۭ Most Merciful raḥīmun
Most Merciful ١٢٩ (129)
(129)
And to Allāh belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
3:130
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā
O you ٱلَّذِينَ who alladhīna
who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe لَا (Do) not lā
(Do) not تَأْكُلُوا۟ eat takulū
eat ٱلرِّبَوٰٓا۟ the usury l-riba
the usury أَضْعَـٰفًۭا doubled aḍʿāfan
doubled مُّضَـٰعَفَةًۭ ۖ multiplied muḍāʿafatan
multiplied وَٱتَّقُوا۟ And fear wa-ittaqū
And fear ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah لَعَلَّكُمْ so that you may laʿallakum
so that you may تُفْلِحُونَ (be) successful tuf'liḥūna
(be) successful ١٣٠ (130)
(130)
O you who have believed, do not consume usury, doubled and multiplied, but fear Allāh that you may be successful.
3:131
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ And fear wa-ittaqū
And fear ٱلنَّارَ the Fire l-nāra
the Fire ٱلَّتِىٓ which allatī
which أُعِدَّتْ is prepared uʿiddat
is prepared لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ for the disbelievers lil'kāfirīna
for the disbelievers ١٣١ (131)
(131)
And fear the Fire, which has been prepared for the disbelievers.
3:132
وَأَطِيعُوا۟ And obey wa-aṭīʿū
And obey ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah وَٱلرَّسُولَ and the Messenger wal-rasūla
and the Messenger لَعَلَّكُمْ so that you may laʿallakum
so that you may تُرْحَمُونَ receive mercy tur'ḥamūna
receive mercy ١٣٢ (132)
(132)
And obey Allāh and the Messenger that you may obtain mercy.
3:133
۞ وَسَارِعُوٓا۟ And hasten wasāriʿū
And hasten إِلَىٰ to ilā
to مَغْفِرَةٍۢ forgiveness maghfiratin
forgiveness مِّن from min
from رَّبِّكُمْ your Lord rabbikum
your Lord وَجَنَّةٍ and a Garden wajannatin
and a Garden عَرْضُهَا its width ʿarḍuhā
its width ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ (is like that of) the heavens l-samāwātu
(is like that of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضُ and the earth wal-arḍu
and the earth أُعِدَّتْ prepared uʿiddat
prepared لِلْمُتَّقِينَ for the pious lil'muttaqīna
for the pious ١٣٣ (133)
(133)
And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden [i.e., Paradise] as wide as the heavens and earth, prepared for the righteous
3:134
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who يُنفِقُونَ spend yunfiqūna
spend فِى in fī
in ٱلسَّرَّآءِ [the] ease l-sarāi
[the] ease وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ and (in) the hardship wal-ḍarāi
and (in) the hardship وَٱلْكَـٰظِمِينَ and those who restrain wal-kāẓimīna
and those who restrain ٱلْغَيْظَ the anger l-ghayẓa
the anger وَٱلْعَافِينَ and those who pardon wal-ʿāfīna
and those who pardon عَنِ [from] ʿani
[from] ٱلنَّاسِ ۗ the people l-nāsi
the people وَٱللَّهُ and Allah wal-lahu
and Allah يُحِبُّ loves yuḥibbu
loves ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ the good-doers l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers ١٣٤ (134)
(134)
Who spend [in the cause of Allāh] during ease and hardship and who restrain anger and who pardon the people - and Allāh loves the doers of good;
3:135
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those wa-alladhīna
And those إِذَا when idhā
when فَعَلُوا۟ they did faʿalū
they did فَـٰحِشَةً immorality fāḥishatan
immorality أَوْ or aw
or ظَلَمُوٓا۟ wronged ẓalamū
wronged أَنفُسَهُمْ themselves anfusahum
themselves ذَكَرُوا۟ they remember dhakarū
they remember ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah فَٱسْتَغْفَرُوا۟ then ask forgiveness fa-is'taghfarū
then ask forgiveness لِذُنُوبِهِمْ for their sins lidhunūbihim
for their sins وَمَن and who waman
and who يَغْفِرُ (can) forgive yaghfiru
(can) forgive ٱلذُّنُوبَ the sins l-dhunūba
the sins إِلَّا except illā
except ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah وَلَمْ And not walam
And not يُصِرُّوا۟ they persist yuṣirrū
they persist عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on مَا what mā
what فَعَلُوا۟ they did faʿalū
they did وَهُمْ while they wahum
while they يَعْلَمُونَ know yaʿlamūna
know ١٣٥ (135)
(135)
And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allāh and seek forgiveness for their sins - and who can forgive sins except Allāh? - and [who] do not persist in what they have done while they know.
3:136
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those جَزَآؤُهُم their reward jazāuhum
their reward مَّغْفِرَةٌۭ (is) forgiveness maghfiratun
(is) forgiveness مِّن from min
from رَّبِّهِمْ their Lord rabbihim
their Lord وَجَنَّـٰتٌۭ and Gardens wajannātun
and Gardens تَجْرِى flows tajrī
flows مِن from min
from تَحْتِهَا underneath it taḥtihā
underneath it ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ the rivers l-anhāru
the rivers خَـٰلِدِينَ abiding forever khālidīna
abiding forever فِيهَا ۚ in it fīhā
in it وَنِعْمَ And an excellent waniʿ'ma
And an excellent أَجْرُ reward ajru
reward ٱلْعَـٰمِلِينَ (for) the (righteous) workers l-ʿāmilīna
(for) the (righteous) workers ١٣٦ (136)
(136)
Those - their reward is forgiveness from their Lord and gardens beneath which rivers flow [in Paradise], wherein they will abide eternally; and excellent is the reward of the [righteous] workers.
3:137
قَدْ Verily qad
Verily خَلَتْ passed khalat
passed مِن from min
from قَبْلِكُمْ before you qablikum
before you سُنَنٌۭ situations sunanun
situations فَسِيرُوا۟ then travel fasīrū
then travel فِى in fī
in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth فَٱنظُرُوا۟ and see fa-unẓurū
and see كَيْفَ how kayfa
how كَانَ was kāna
was عَـٰقِبَةُ (the) end ʿāqibatu
(the) end ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ (of) the deniers l-mukadhibīna
(of) the deniers ١٣٧ (137)
(137)
Similar situations [as yours] have passed on before you, so proceed throughout the earth and observe how was the end of those who denied.
3:138
هَـٰذَا This hādhā
This بَيَانٌۭ (is) a declaration bayānun
(is) a declaration لِّلنَّاسِ for the people lilnnāsi
for the people وَهُدًۭى and guidance wahudan
and guidance وَمَوْعِظَةٌۭ and admonition wamawʿiẓatun
and admonition لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ for the God-fearing lil'muttaqīna
for the God-fearing ١٣٨ (138)
(138)
This [Qur’ān] is a clear statement to [all] the people and a guidance and instruction for those conscious of Allāh.
3:139
وَلَا And (do) not walā
And (do) not تَهِنُوا۟ weaken tahinū
weaken وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not تَحْزَنُوا۟ grieve taḥzanū
grieve وَأَنتُمُ and you (will be) wa-antumu
and you (will be) ٱلْأَعْلَوْنَ [the] superior l-aʿlawna
[the] superior إِن if in
if كُنتُم you are kuntum
you are مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers mu'minīna
believers ١٣٩ (139)
(139)
So do not weaken and do not grieve, and you will be superior if you are [true] believers.
3:140
إِن If in
If يَمْسَسْكُمْ touched you yamsaskum
touched you قَرْحٌۭ a wound qarḥun
a wound فَقَدْ so certainly faqad
so certainly مَسَّ (has) touched massa
(has) touched ٱلْقَوْمَ the people l-qawma
the people قَرْحٌۭ wound qarḥun
wound مِّثْلُهُۥ ۚ like it mith'luhu
like it وَتِلْكَ And this watil'ka
And this ٱلْأَيَّامُ [the] days l-ayāmu
[the] days نُدَاوِلُهَا We alternate them nudāwiluhā
We alternate them بَيْنَ among bayna
among ٱلنَّاسِ the people l-nāsi
the people وَلِيَعْلَمَ [and] so that makes evident waliyaʿlama
[and] so that makes evident ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe[d] āmanū
believe[d] وَيَتَّخِذَ and take wayattakhidha
and take مِنكُمْ from you minkum
from you شُهَدَآءَ ۗ martyrs shuhadāa
martyrs وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah لَا (does) not lā
(does) not يُحِبُّ love yuḥibbu
love ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers ١٤٠ (140)
(140)
If a wound should touch you - there has already touched the [opposing] people a wound similar to it. And these days [of varying conditions] We alternate among the people so that Allāh may make evident those who believe and [may] take to Himself from among you martyrs - and Allāh does not like the wrongdoers -
3:141
وَلِيُمَحِّصَ And so that may purify waliyumaḥḥiṣa
And so that may purify ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe وَيَمْحَقَ and destroy wayamḥaqa
and destroy ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ the disbelievers l-kāfirīna
the disbelievers ١٤١ (141)
(141)
And that Allāh may purify the believers [through trials] and destroy the disbelievers.
3:142
أَمْ Or am
Or حَسِبْتُمْ do you think ḥasib'tum
do you think أَن that an
that تَدْخُلُوا۟ you will enter tadkhulū
you will enter ٱلْجَنَّةَ Paradise l-janata
Paradise وَلَمَّا while has not yet walammā
while has not yet يَعْلَمِ made evident yaʿlami
made evident ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who جَـٰهَدُوا۟ strove hard jāhadū
strove hard مِنكُمْ among you minkum
among you وَيَعْلَمَ and made evident wayaʿlama
and made evident ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ the steadfast l-ṣābirīna
the steadfast ١٤٢ (142)
(142)
Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while Allāh has not yet made evident those of you who fight in His cause and made evident those who are steadfast?
3:143
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad
And certainly كُنتُمْ you used to kuntum
you used to تَمَنَّوْنَ wish tamannawna
wish ٱلْمَوْتَ (for) death l-mawta
(for) death مِن from min
from قَبْلِ before qabli
before أَن [that] an
[that] تَلْقَوْهُ you met it talqawhu
you met it فَقَدْ then indeed faqad
then indeed رَأَيْتُمُوهُ you have seen it ra-aytumūhu
you have seen it وَأَنتُمْ while you (were) wa-antum
while you (were) تَنظُرُونَ looking on tanẓurūna
looking on ١٤٣ (143)
(143)
And you had certainly wished for death [i.e., martyrdom] before you encountered it, and you have [now] seen it [before you] while you were looking on.
3:144
وَمَا And not wamā
And not مُحَمَّدٌ (is) Muhammad muḥammadun
(is) Muhammad إِلَّا except illā
except رَسُولٌۭ a Messenger rasūlun
a Messenger قَدْ certainly qad
certainly خَلَتْ passed away khalat
passed away مِن from min
from قَبْلِهِ before him qablihi
before him ٱلرُّسُلُ ۚ [the] (other) Messengers l-rusulu
[the] (other) Messengers أَفَإِي۟ن So if afa-in
So if مَّاتَ he died māta
he died أَوْ or aw
or قُتِلَ is slain qutila
is slain ٱنقَلَبْتُمْ will you turn back inqalabtum
will you turn back عَلَىٰٓ on ʿalā
on أَعْقَـٰبِكُمْ ۚ your heels aʿqābikum
your heels وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever يَنقَلِبْ turns back yanqalib
turns back عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on عَقِبَيْهِ his heels ʿaqibayhi
his heels فَلَن then never falan
then never يَضُرَّ will he harm yaḍurra
will he harm ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah شَيْـًۭٔا ۗ (in) anything shayan
(in) anything وَسَيَجْزِى And will reward wasayajzī
And will reward ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah ٱلشَّـٰكِرِينَ the grateful ones l-shākirīna
the grateful ones ١٤٤ (144)
(144)
Muḥammad is not but a messenger. [Other] messengers have passed on before him. So if he was to die or be killed, would you turn back on your heels [to unbelief]? And he who turns back on his heels will never harm Allāh at all; but Allāh will reward the grateful.
3:145
وَمَا And not wamā
And not كَانَ is kāna
is لِنَفْسٍ for a soul linafsin
for a soul أَن that an
that تَمُوتَ he dies tamūta
he dies إِلَّا except illā
except بِإِذْنِ by (the) permission bi-idh'ni
by (the) permission ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah كِتَـٰبًۭا (at a) decree kitāban
(at a) decree مُّؤَجَّلًۭا ۗ determined mu-ajjalan
determined وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever يُرِدْ desires yurid
desires ثَوَابَ reward thawāba
reward ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world نُؤْتِهِۦ We will give him nu'tihi
We will give him مِنْهَا thereof min'hā
thereof وَمَن and whoever waman
and whoever يُرِدْ desires yurid
desires ثَوَابَ reward thawāba
reward ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ (of) the Hereafter l-ākhirati
(of) the Hereafter نُؤْتِهِۦ We will give him nu'tihi
We will give him مِنْهَا ۚ thereof min'hā
thereof وَسَنَجْزِى And We will reward wasanajzī
And We will reward ٱلشَّـٰكِرِينَ the grateful ones l-shākirīna
the grateful ones ١٤٥ (145)
(145)
And it is not [possible] for one to die except by permission of Allāh at a decree determined. And whoever desires the reward of this world - We will give him thereof; and whoever desires the reward of the Hereafter - We will give him thereof. And We will reward the grateful.
3:146
وَكَأَيِّن And how many waka-ayyin
And how many مِّن from min
from نَّبِىٍّۢ a Prophet nabiyyin
a Prophet قَـٰتَلَ fought qātala
fought مَعَهُۥ with him maʿahu
with him رِبِّيُّونَ (were) religious scholars ribbiyyūna
(were) religious scholars كَثِيرٌۭ many kathīrun
many فَمَا But not famā
But not وَهَنُوا۟ they lost heart wahanū
they lost heart لِمَآ for what limā
for what أَصَابَهُمْ befell them aṣābahum
befell them فِى in fī
in سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah وَمَا and not wamā
and not ضَعُفُوا۟ they weakened ḍaʿufū
they weakened وَمَا and not wamā
and not ٱسْتَكَانُوا۟ ۗ they gave in is'takānū
they gave in وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah يُحِبُّ loves yuḥibbu
loves ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ the patient ones l-ṣābirīna
the patient ones ١٤٦ (146)
(146)
And how many a prophet [fought in battle and] with him fought many religious scholars. But they never lost assurance due to what afflicted them in the cause of Allāh, nor did they weaken or submit. And Allāh loves the steadfast.
3:147
وَمَا And not wamā
And not كَانَ were kāna
were قَوْلَهُمْ their words qawlahum
their words إِلَّآ except illā
except أَن that an
that قَالُوا۟ they said qālū
they said رَبَّنَا Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord ٱغْفِرْ forgive igh'fir
forgive لَنَا for us lanā
for us ذُنُوبَنَا our sins dhunūbanā
our sins وَإِسْرَافَنَا and our excesses wa-is'rāfanā
and our excesses فِىٓ in fī
in أَمْرِنَا our affairs amrinā
our affairs وَثَبِّتْ and make firm wathabbit
and make firm أَقْدَامَنَا our feet aqdāmanā
our feet وَٱنصُرْنَا and give us victory wa-unṣur'nā
and give us victory عَلَى over ʿalā
over ٱلْقَوْمِ [the people] l-qawmi
[the people] ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ the disbelievers l-kāfirīna
the disbelievers ١٤٧ (147)
(147)
And their words were not but that they said, "Our Lord, forgive us our sins and the excess [committed] in our affairs and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people."
3:148
فَـَٔاتَىٰهُمُ So gave them faātāhumu
So gave them ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah ثَوَابَ reward thawāba
reward ٱلدُّنْيَا (in) the world l-dun'yā
(in) the world وَحُسْنَ and good waḥus'na
and good ثَوَابِ reward thawābi
reward ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۗ (in) the Hereafter l-ākhirati
(in) the Hereafter وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah يُحِبُّ loves yuḥibbu
loves ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ the good-doers l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers ١٤٨ (148)
(148)
So Allāh gave them the reward of this world and the good reward of the Hereafter. And Allāh loves the doers of good.
3:149
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā
O you ٱلَّذِينَ who alladhīna
who ءَامَنُوٓا۟ believe āmanū
believe إِن If in
If تُطِيعُوا۟ you obey tuṭīʿū
you obey ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve يَرُدُّوكُمْ they will turn you back yaruddūkum
they will turn you back عَلَىٰٓ on ʿalā
on أَعْقَـٰبِكُمْ your heels aʿqābikum
your heels فَتَنقَلِبُوا۟ then you will turn back fatanqalibū
then you will turn back خَـٰسِرِينَ (as) losers khāsirīna
(as) losers ١٤٩ (149)
(149)
O you who have believed, if you obey those who disbelieve, they will turn you back on your heels, and you will [then] become losers.
3:150
بَلِ Nay bali
Nay ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah مَوْلَىٰكُمْ ۖ (is) your Protector mawlākum
(is) your Protector وَهُوَ and He wahuwa
and He خَيْرُ (is the) best khayru
(is the) best ٱلنَّـٰصِرِينَ (of) the Helpers l-nāṣirīna
(of) the Helpers ١٥٠ (150)
(150)
But Allāh is your protector, and He is the best of helpers.
3:151
سَنُلْقِى We will cast sanul'qī
We will cast فِى in fī
in قُلُوبِ (the) hearts qulūbi
(the) hearts ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who alladhīna
(of) those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve ٱلرُّعْبَ [the] terror l-ruʿ'ba
[the] terror بِمَآ because bimā
because أَشْرَكُوا۟ they associated partners ashrakū
they associated partners بِٱللَّهِ with Allah bil-lahi
with Allah مَا what mā
what لَمْ not lam
not يُنَزِّلْ He sent down yunazzil
He sent down بِهِۦ about it bihi
about it سُلْطَـٰنًۭا ۖ any authority sul'ṭānan
any authority وَمَأْوَىٰهُمُ and their refuge wamawāhumu
and their refuge ٱلنَّارُ ۚ (will be) the Fire l-nāru
(will be) the Fire وَبِئْسَ and wretched wabi'sa
and wretched مَثْوَى (is the) abode mathwā
(is the) abode ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ [of] the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
[of] the wrongdoers ١٥١ (151)
(151)
We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve for what they have associated with Allāh of which He had not sent down [any] authority. And their refuge will be the Fire, and wretched is the residence of the wrongdoers.
3:152
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad
And certainly صَدَقَكُمُ fulfilled to you ṣadaqakumu
fulfilled to you ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah وَعْدَهُۥٓ His promise waʿdahu
His promise إِذْ when idh
when تَحُسُّونَهُم you were killing them taḥussūnahum
you were killing them بِإِذْنِهِۦ ۖ by His permission bi-idh'nihi
by His permission حَتَّىٰٓ until ḥattā
until إِذَا when idhā
when فَشِلْتُمْ you lost courage fashil'tum
you lost courage وَتَنَـٰزَعْتُمْ and you fell into dispute watanāzaʿtum
and you fell into dispute فِى concerning fī
concerning ٱلْأَمْرِ the order l-amri
the order وَعَصَيْتُم and you disobeyed waʿaṣaytum
and you disobeyed مِّنۢ from min
from بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after مَآ [what] mā
[what] أَرَىٰكُم He (had) shown you arākum
He (had) shown you مَّا what mā
what تُحِبُّونَ ۚ you love tuḥibbūna
you love مِنكُم Among you minkum
Among you مَّن (are some) who man
(are some) who يُرِيدُ desire yurīdu
desire ٱلدُّنْيَا the world l-dun'yā
the world وَمِنكُم and among you waminkum
and among you مَّن (are some) who man
(are some) who يُرِيدُ desire yurīdu
desire ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۚ the Hereafter l-ākhirata
the Hereafter ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then صَرَفَكُمْ He diverted you ṣarafakum
He diverted you عَنْهُمْ from them ʿanhum
from them لِيَبْتَلِيَكُمْ ۖ so that He may test you liyabtaliyakum
so that He may test you وَلَقَدْ And surely walaqad
And surely عَفَا He forgave ʿafā
He forgave عَنكُمْ ۗ you ʿankum
you وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah ذُو (is the) Possessor dhū
(is the) Possessor فَضْلٍ (of) Bounty faḍlin
(of) Bounty عَلَى for ʿalā
for ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers l-mu'minīna
the believers ١٥٢ (152)
(152)
And Allāh had certainly fulfilled His promise to you when you were killing them [i.e., the enemy] by His permission until [the time] when you lost courage and fell to disputing about the order [given by the Prophet (ﷺ)] and disobeyed after He had shown you that which you love. Among you are some who desire this world, and among you are some who desire the Hereafter. Then He turned you back from them [defeated] that He might test you. And He has already forgiven you, and Allāh is the possessor of bounty for the believers.
3:153
۞ إِذْ When idh
When تُصْعِدُونَ you were running uphill tuṣ'ʿidūna
you were running uphill وَلَا and not walā
and not تَلْوُۥنَ casting a glance talwūna
casting a glance عَلَىٰٓ on ʿalā
on أَحَدٍۢ anyone aḥadin
anyone وَٱلرَّسُولُ while the Messenger wal-rasūlu
while the Messenger يَدْعُوكُمْ was calling you yadʿūkum
was calling you فِىٓ [in] fī
[in] أُخْرَىٰكُمْ (from) behind you ukh'rākum
(from) behind you فَأَثَـٰبَكُمْ So (He) repaid you fa-athābakum
So (He) repaid you غَمًّۢا (with) distress ghamman
(with) distress بِغَمٍّۢ on distress bighammin
on distress لِّكَيْلَا so that not likaylā
so that not تَحْزَنُوا۟ you grieve taḥzanū
you grieve عَلَىٰ over ʿalā
over مَا what mā
what فَاتَكُمْ escaped you fātakum
escaped you وَلَا and not walā
and not مَآ what mā
what أَصَـٰبَكُمْ ۗ (had) befallen you aṣābakum
(had) befallen you وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah خَبِيرٌۢ (is) All-Aware khabīrun
(is) All-Aware بِمَا of what bimā
of what تَعْمَلُونَ you do taʿmalūna
you do ١٥٣ (153)
(153)
[Remember] when you [fled and] climbed [the mountain] without looking aside at anyone while the Messenger was calling you from behind. So Allāh repaid you with distress upon distress so you would not grieve for that which had escaped you [of victory and spoils of war] or [for] that which had befallen you [of injury and death]. And Allāh is [fully] Aware of what you do.
3:154
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then أَنزَلَ He sent down anzala
He sent down عَلَيْكُم upon you ʿalaykum
upon you مِّنۢ from min
from بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after ٱلْغَمِّ the distress l-ghami
the distress أَمَنَةًۭ security amanatan
security نُّعَاسًۭا slumber nuʿāsan
slumber يَغْشَىٰ overcoming yaghshā
overcoming طَآئِفَةًۭ a group ṭāifatan
a group مِّنكُمْ ۖ of you minkum
of you وَطَآئِفَةٌۭ while a group waṭāifatun
while a group قَدْ certainly qad
certainly أَهَمَّتْهُمْ worried [them] ahammathum
worried [them] أَنفُسُهُمْ (about) themselves anfusuhum
(about) themselves يَظُنُّونَ thinking yaẓunnūna
thinking بِٱللَّهِ about Allah bil-lahi
about Allah غَيْرَ other than ghayra
other than ٱلْحَقِّ the truth l-ḥaqi
the truth ظَنَّ (the) thought ẓanna
(the) thought ٱلْجَـٰهِلِيَّةِ ۖ (of) [the] ignorance l-jāhiliyati
(of) [the] ignorance يَقُولُونَ saying yaqūlūna
saying هَل Is (there) hal
Is (there) لَّنَا for us lanā
for us مِنَ from mina
from ٱلْأَمْرِ the matter l-amri
the matter مِن any min
any شَىْءٍۢ ۗ thing shayin
thing قُلْ Say qul
Say إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱلْأَمْرَ the matter l-amra
the matter كُلَّهُۥ all (of) it kullahu
all (of) it لِلَّهِ ۗ (is) for Allah lillahi
(is) for Allah يُخْفُونَ They hide yukh'fūna
They hide فِىٓ in fī
in أَنفُسِهِم themselves anfusihim
themselves مَّا what mā
what لَا not lā
not يُبْدُونَ they reveal yub'dūna
they reveal لَكَ ۖ to you laka
to you يَقُولُونَ They say yaqūlūna
They say لَوْ If law
If كَانَ was kāna
was لَنَا for us lanā
for us مِنَ from mina
from ٱلْأَمْرِ the matter l-amri
the matter شَىْءٌۭ anything shayon
anything مَّا not mā
not قُتِلْنَا we would have been killed qutil'nā
we would have been killed هَـٰهُنَا ۗ here hāhunā
here قُل Say qul
Say لَّوْ If law
If كُنتُمْ you were kuntum
you were فِى in fī
in بُيُوتِكُمْ your houses buyūtikum
your houses لَبَرَزَ surely (would have) come out labaraza
surely (would have) come out ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who كُتِبَ was decreed kutiba
was decreed عَلَيْهِمُ upon them ʿalayhimu
upon them ٱلْقَتْلُ [the] death l-qatlu
[the] death إِلَىٰ towards ilā
towards مَضَاجِعِهِمْ ۖ their places of death maḍājiʿihim
their places of death وَلِيَبْتَلِىَ And that might test waliyabtaliya
And that might test ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah مَا what mā
what فِى (is) in fī
(is) in صُدُورِكُمْ your breasts ṣudūrikum
your breasts وَلِيُمَحِّصَ and that He may purge waliyumaḥḥiṣa
and that He may purge مَا what mā
what فِى (is) in fī
(is) in قُلُوبِكُمْ ۗ your hearts qulūbikum
your hearts وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah عَلِيمٌۢ (is) All-Aware ʿalīmun
(is) All-Aware بِذَاتِ of what bidhāti
of what ٱلصُّدُورِ (is in) the breasts l-ṣudūri
(is in) the breasts ١٥٤ (154)
(154)
Then after distress, He sent down upon you security [in the form of] drowsiness, overcoming a faction of you, while another faction worried about themselves, thinking of Allāh other than the truth - the thought of ignorance, saying, "Is there anything for us [to have done] in this matter?" Say, "Indeed, the matter belongs completely to Allāh." They conceal within themselves what they will not reveal to you. They say, "If there was anything we could have done in the matter, we [i.e., some of us] would not have been killed right here." Say, "Even if you had been inside your houses, those decreed to be killed would have come out to their death beds." [It was] so that Allāh might test what is in your breasts and purify what is in your hearts. And Allāh is Knowing of that within the breasts.
3:155
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who تَوَلَّوْا۟ turned back tawallaw
turned back مِنكُمْ among you minkum
among you يَوْمَ (on the) day yawma
(on the) day ٱلْتَقَى met l-taqā
met ٱلْجَمْعَانِ the two hosts l-jamʿāni
the two hosts إِنَّمَا only innamā
only ٱسْتَزَلَّهُمُ made them slip is'tazallahumu
made them slip ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ the Shaitaan l-shayṭānu
the Shaitaan بِبَعْضِ for some bibaʿḍi
for some مَا (of) what mā
(of) what كَسَبُوا۟ ۖ they (had) earned kasabū
they (had) earned وَلَقَدْ And surely walaqad
And surely عَفَا forgave ʿafā
forgave ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah عَنْهُمْ ۗ [on] them ʿanhum
[on] them إِنَّ indeed inna
indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah غَفُورٌ (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun
(is) Oft-Forgiving حَلِيمٌۭ All-Forbearing ḥalīmun
All-Forbearing ١٥٥ (155)
(155)
Indeed, those of you who turned back on the day the two armies met [at Uḥud] - it was Satan who caused them to slip because of some [blame] they had earned. But Allāh has already forgiven them. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Forbearing.
3:156
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā
O you ٱلَّذِينَ who alladhīna
who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe[d] āmanū
believe[d] لَا (Do) not lā
(Do) not تَكُونُوا۟ be takūnū
be كَٱلَّذِينَ like those who ka-alladhīna
like those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved وَقَالُوا۟ and they said waqālū
and they said لِإِخْوَٰنِهِمْ about their brothers li-ikh'wānihim
about their brothers إِذَا when idhā
when ضَرَبُوا۟ they traveled ḍarabū
they traveled فِى in fī
in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth أَوْ or aw
or كَانُوا۟ they were kānū
they were غُزًّۭى fighting ghuzzan
fighting لَّوْ If law
If كَانُوا۟ they had been kānū
they had been عِندَنَا with us ʿindanā
with us مَا not mā
not مَاتُوا۟ they (would have) died mātū
they (would have) died وَمَا and not wamā
and not قُتِلُوا۟ they (would have) been killed qutilū
they (would have) been killed لِيَجْعَلَ So makes liyajʿala
So makes ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that حَسْرَةًۭ a regret ḥasratan
a regret فِى in fī
in قُلُوبِهِمْ ۗ their hearts qulūbihim
their hearts وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah يُحْىِۦ gives life yuḥ'yī
gives life وَيُمِيتُ ۗ and causes death wayumītu
and causes death وَٱللَّهُ and Allah wal-lahu
and Allah بِمَا of what bimā
of what تَعْمَلُونَ you do taʿmalūna
you do بَصِيرٌۭ (is) All-Seer baṣīrun
(is) All-Seer ١٥٦ (156)
(156)
O you who have believed, do not be like those who disbelieved and said about their brothers when they traveled through the land or went out to fight, "If they had been with us, they would not have died or have been killed," so Allāh makes that [misconception] a regret within their hearts. And it is Allāh who gives life and causes death, and Allāh is Seeing of what you do.
3:157
وَلَئِن And if wala-in
And if قُتِلْتُمْ you are killed qutil'tum
you are killed فِى in fī
in سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah أَوْ or aw
or مُتُّمْ die[d] muttum
die[d] لَمَغْفِرَةٌۭ certainly forgiveness lamaghfiratun
certainly forgiveness مِّنَ from mina
from ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah وَرَحْمَةٌ and Mercy waraḥmatun
and Mercy خَيْرٌۭ (are) better khayrun
(are) better مِّمَّا than what mimmā
than what يَجْمَعُونَ they accumulate yajmaʿūna
they accumulate ١٥٧ (157)
(157)
And if you are killed in the cause of Allāh or die - then forgiveness from Allāh and mercy are better than whatever they accumulate [in this world].
3:158
وَلَئِن And if wala-in
And if مُّتُّمْ you die muttum
you die أَوْ or aw
or قُتِلْتُمْ are killed qutil'tum
are killed لَإِلَى surely to la-ilā
surely to ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah تُحْشَرُونَ you will be gathered tuḥ'sharūna
you will be gathered ١٥٨ (158)
(158)
And whether you die or are killed, unto Allāh you will be gathered.
3:159
فَبِمَا So because fabimā
So because رَحْمَةٍۢ (of) Mercy raḥmatin
(of) Mercy مِّنَ from mina
from ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah لِنتَ you dealt gently linta
you dealt gently لَهُمْ ۖ with them lahum
with them وَلَوْ And if walaw
And if كُنتَ you had been kunta
you had been فَظًّا rude faẓẓan
rude غَلِيظَ (and) harsh ghalīẓa
(and) harsh ٱلْقَلْبِ (at) [the] heart l-qalbi
(at) [the] heart لَٱنفَضُّوا۟ surely they (would have) dispersed la-infaḍḍū
surely they (would have) dispersed مِنْ from min
from حَوْلِكَ ۖ around you ḥawlika
around you فَٱعْفُ Then pardon fa-uʿ'fu
Then pardon عَنْهُمْ [from] them ʿanhum
[from] them وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ and ask forgiveness wa-is'taghfir
and ask forgiveness لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them وَشَاوِرْهُمْ and consult them washāwir'hum
and consult them فِى in fī
in ٱلْأَمْرِ ۖ the matter l-amri
the matter فَإِذَا Then when fa-idhā
Then when عَزَمْتَ you have decided ʿazamta
you have decided فَتَوَكَّلْ then put trust fatawakkal
then put trust عَلَى on ʿalā
on ٱللَّهِ ۚ Allah l-lahi
Allah إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah يُحِبُّ loves yuḥibbu
loves ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلِينَ the ones who put trust (in Him) l-mutawakilīna
the ones who put trust (in Him) ١٥٩ (159)
(159)
So by mercy from Allāh, [O Muḥammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult them in the matter. And when you have decided, then rely upon Allāh. Indeed, Allāh loves those who rely [upon Him].
3:160
إِن If in
If يَنصُرْكُمُ helps you yanṣur'kumu
helps you ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah فَلَا then not falā
then not غَالِبَ (can) overcome ghāliba
(can) overcome لَكُمْ ۖ [for] you lakum
[for] you وَإِن and if wa-in
and if يَخْذُلْكُمْ He forsakes you yakhdhul'kum
He forsakes you فَمَن then who faman
then who ذَا (is) dhā
(is) ٱلَّذِى the one who alladhī
the one who يَنصُرُكُم can help you yanṣurukum
can help you مِّنۢ from min
from بَعْدِهِۦ ۗ after Him baʿdihi
after Him وَعَلَى And on waʿalā
And on ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ let put (their) trust falyatawakkali
let put (their) trust ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ the believers l-mu'minūna
the believers ١٦٠ (160)
(160)
If Allāh should aid you, no one can overcome you; but if He should forsake you, who is there that can aid you after Him? And upon Allāh let the believers rely.
3:161
وَمَا And not wamā
And not كَانَ is kāna
is لِنَبِىٍّ for a Prophet linabiyyin
for a Prophet أَن that an
that يَغُلَّ ۚ he defrauds yaghulla
he defrauds وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever يَغْلُلْ defrauds yaghlul
defrauds يَأْتِ will bring yati
will bring بِمَا what bimā
what غَلَّ he had defrauded ghalla
he had defrauded يَوْمَ (on the) Day yawma
(on the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۚ (of) Resurrection l-qiyāmati
(of) Resurrection ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then تُوَفَّىٰ is repaid in full tuwaffā
is repaid in full كُلُّ every kullu
every نَفْسٍۢ soul nafsin
soul مَّا what mā
what كَسَبَتْ it earned kasabat
it earned وَهُمْ and they wahum
and they لَا (will) not lā
(will) not يُظْلَمُونَ be wronged yuẓ'lamūna
be wronged ١٦١ (161)
(161)
It is not [attributable] to any prophet that he would act unfaithfully [in regard to war booty]. And whoever betrays, [taking unlawfully], will come with what he took on the Day of Resurrection. Then will every soul be [fully] compensated for what it earned, and they will not be wronged.
3:162
أَفَمَنِ So is (the one) who afamani
So is (the one) who ٱتَّبَعَ pursues ittabaʿa
pursues رِضْوَٰنَ (the) pleasure riḍ'wāna
(the) pleasure ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah كَمَنۢ like (the one) who kaman
like (the one) who بَآءَ draws bāa
draws بِسَخَطٍۢ on (himself) wrath bisakhaṭin
on (himself) wrath مِّنَ of mina
of ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah وَمَأْوَىٰهُ and his abode wamawāhu
and his abode جَهَنَّمُ ۚ (is) hell jahannamu
(is) hell وَبِئْسَ and wretched wabi'sa
and wretched ٱلْمَصِيرُ (is) the destination l-maṣīru
(is) the destination ١٦٢ (162)
(162)
So is one who pursues the pleasure of Allāh like one who brings upon himself the anger of Allāh and whose refuge is Hell? And wretched is the destination.
3:163
هُمْ They hum
They دَرَجَـٰتٌ (are in varying) degrees darajātun
(are in varying) degrees عِندَ near ʿinda
near ٱللَّهِ ۗ Allah l-lahi
Allah وَٱللَّهُ and Allah wal-lahu
and Allah بَصِيرٌۢ (is) All-Seer baṣīrun
(is) All-Seer بِمَا of what bimā
of what يَعْمَلُونَ they do yaʿmalūna
they do ١٦٣ (163)
(163)
They are [varying] degrees in the sight of Allāh, and Allāh is Seeing of whatever they do.
3:164
لَقَدْ Certainly laqad
Certainly مَنَّ bestowed a Favor manna
bestowed a Favor ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah عَلَى upon ʿalā
upon ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers l-mu'minīna
the believers إِذْ as idh
as بَعَثَ He raised baʿatha
He raised فِيهِمْ among them fīhim
among them رَسُولًۭا a Messenger rasūlan
a Messenger مِّنْ from min
from أَنفُسِهِمْ themselves anfusihim
themselves يَتْلُوا۟ reciting yatlū
reciting عَلَيْهِمْ to them ʿalayhim
to them ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ His Verses āyātihi
His Verses وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ and purifying them wayuzakkīhim
and purifying them وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ and teaching them wayuʿallimuhumu
and teaching them ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book l-kitāba
the Book وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ and the wisdom wal-ḥik'mata
and the wisdom وَإِن although wa-in
although كَانُوا۟ they were kānū
they were مِن from min
from قَبْلُ before (that) qablu
before (that) لَفِى certainly in lafī
certainly in ضَلَـٰلٍۢ (the) error ḍalālin
(the) error مُّبِينٍ clear mubīnin
clear ١٦٤ (164)
(164)
Certainly did Allāh confer [great] favor upon the believers when He sent among them a Messenger from themselves, reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] and wisdom, although they had been before in manifest error.
3:165
أَوَلَمَّآ Or when awalammā
Or when أَصَـٰبَتْكُم struck you aṣābatkum
struck you مُّصِيبَةٌۭ disaster muṣībatun
disaster قَدْ surely qad
surely أَصَبْتُم you (had) struck (them) aṣabtum
you (had) struck (them) مِّثْلَيْهَا twice of it mith'layhā
twice of it قُلْتُمْ you said qul'tum
you said أَنَّىٰ From where annā
From where هَـٰذَا ۖ (is) this hādhā
(is) this قُلْ Say qul
Say هُوَ It huwa
It مِنْ (is) min
(is) عِندِ from ʿindi
from أَنفُسِكُمْ ۗ yourselves anfusikum
yourselves إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah عَلَىٰ (is) on ʿalā
(is) on كُلِّ every kulli
every شَىْءٍۢ thing shayin
thing قَدِيرٌۭ All-Powerful qadīrun
All-Powerful ١٦٥ (165)
(165)
Why [is it that] when a [single] disaster struck you [on the day of Uḥud], although you had struck [the enemy in the battle of Badr] with one twice as great, you said, "From where is this?" Say, "It is from yourselves [i.e., due to your sin]." Indeed, Allāh is over all things competent.
3:166
وَمَآ And what wamā
And what أَصَـٰبَكُمْ struck you aṣābakum
struck you يَوْمَ (on the) day yawma
(on the) day ٱلْتَقَى (when) met l-taqā
(when) met ٱلْجَمْعَانِ the two hosts l-jamʿāni
the two hosts فَبِإِذْنِ (was) by (the) permission fabi-idh'ni
(was) by (the) permission ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah وَلِيَعْلَمَ and that He (might) make evident waliyaʿlama
and that He (might) make evident ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers l-mu'minīna
the believers ١٦٦ (166)
(166)
And what struck you on the day the two armies met [at Uḥud] was by permission of Allāh that He might make evident the [true] believers
3:167
وَلِيَعْلَمَ And that He (might) make evident waliyaʿlama
And that He (might) make evident ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who نَافَقُوا۟ ۚ (are) hypocrites nāfaqū
(are) hypocrites وَقِيلَ And it was said waqīla
And it was said لَهُمْ to them lahum
to them تَعَالَوْا۟ Come taʿālaw
Come قَـٰتِلُوا۟ fight qātilū
fight فِى in fī
in سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah أَوِ or awi
or ٱدْفَعُوا۟ ۖ defend id'faʿū
defend قَالُوا۟ They said qālū
They said لَوْ If law
If نَعْلَمُ we knew naʿlamu
we knew قِتَالًۭا fighting qitālan
fighting لَّٱتَّبَعْنَـٰكُمْ ۗ certainly we (would have) followed you la-ittabaʿnākum
certainly we (would have) followed you هُمْ They hum
They لِلْكُفْرِ to disbelief lil'kuf'ri
to disbelief يَوْمَئِذٍ that day yawma-idhin
that day أَقْرَبُ (were) nearer aqrabu
(were) nearer مِنْهُمْ than [them] min'hum
than [them] لِلْإِيمَـٰنِ ۚ to the faith lil'īmāni
to the faith يَقُولُونَ saying yaqūlūna
saying بِأَفْوَٰهِهِم with their mouths bi-afwāhihim
with their mouths مَّا what mā
what لَيْسَ was not laysa
was not فِى in fī
in قُلُوبِهِمْ ۗ their hearts qulūbihim
their hearts وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah أَعْلَمُ (is) Most Knowing aʿlamu
(is) Most Knowing بِمَا of what bimā
of what يَكْتُمُونَ they conceal yaktumūna
they conceal ١٦٧ (167)
(167)
And that He might make evident those who are hypocrites. For it was said to them, "Come, fight in the way of Allāh or [at least] defend." They said, "If we had known [there would be] battle, we would have followed you." They were nearer to disbelief that day than to faith, saying with their mouths what was not in their hearts. And Allāh is most knowing of what they conceal -
3:168
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who قَالُوا۟ said qālū
said لِإِخْوَٰنِهِمْ about their brothers li-ikh'wānihim
about their brothers وَقَعَدُوا۟ while they sat waqaʿadū
while they sat لَوْ If law
If أَطَاعُونَا they (had) obeyed us aṭāʿūnā
they (had) obeyed us مَا not mā
not قُتِلُوا۟ ۗ they would have been killed qutilū
they would have been killed قُلْ Say qul
Say فَٱدْرَءُوا۟ Then avert fa-id'raū
Then avert عَنْ from ʿan
from أَنفُسِكُمُ yourselves anfusikumu
yourselves ٱلْمَوْتَ [the] death l-mawta
[the] death إِن if in
if كُنتُمْ you are kuntum
you are صَـٰدِقِينَ truthful ṣādiqīna
truthful ١٦٨ (168)
(168)
Those who said about their brothers while sitting [at home], "If they had obeyed us, they would not have been killed." Say, "Then prevent death from yourselves, if you should be truthful."
3:169
وَلَا And (do) not walā
And (do) not تَحْسَبَنَّ think taḥsabanna
think ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who alladhīna
(of) those who قُتِلُوا۟ are killed qutilū
are killed فِى in fī
in سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah أَمْوَٰتًۢا ۚ (as) dead amwātan
(as) dead بَلْ Nay bal
Nay أَحْيَآءٌ They are alive aḥyāon
They are alive عِندَ near ʿinda
near رَبِّهِمْ their Lord rabbihim
their Lord يُرْزَقُونَ they are given provision yur'zaqūna
they are given provision ١٦٩ (169)
(169)
And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allāh as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision,
3:170
فَرِحِينَ Rejoicing fariḥīna
Rejoicing بِمَآ in what bimā
in what ءَاتَىٰهُمُ bestowed them ātāhumu
bestowed them ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah مِن of min
of فَضْلِهِۦ His Bounty faḍlihi
His Bounty وَيَسْتَبْشِرُونَ and they receive good tidings wayastabshirūna
and they receive good tidings بِٱلَّذِينَ about those who bi-alladhīna
about those who لَمْ (have) not lam
(have) not يَلْحَقُوا۟ yet joined yalḥaqū
yet joined بِهِم [with] them bihim
[with] them مِّنْ [from] min
[from] خَلْفِهِمْ (but are) left behind khalfihim
(but are) left behind أَلَّا that (there will be) no allā
that (there will be) no خَوْفٌ fear khawfun
fear عَلَيْهِمْ on them ʿalayhim
on them وَلَا and not walā
and not هُمْ they hum
they يَحْزَنُونَ will grieve yaḥzanūna
will grieve ١٧٠ (170)
(170)
Rejoicing in what Allāh has bestowed upon them of His bounty, and they receive good tidings about those [to be martyred] after them who have not yet joined them - that there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.
3:171
۞ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ They receive good tidings yastabshirūna
They receive good tidings بِنِعْمَةٍۢ of Favor biniʿ'matin
of Favor مِّنَ from mina
from ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah وَفَضْلٍۢ and Bounty wafaḍlin
and Bounty وَأَنَّ and that wa-anna
and that ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah لَا (does) not lā
(does) not يُضِيعُ let go waste yuḍīʿu
let go waste أَجْرَ (the) reward ajra
(the) reward ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ (of) the believers l-mu'minīna
(of) the believers ١٧١ (171)
(171)
They receive good tidings of favor from Allāh and bounty and [of the fact] that Allāh does not allow the reward of believers to be lost -
3:172
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟ responded is'tajābū
responded لِلَّهِ to Allah lillahi
to Allah وَٱلرَّسُولِ and the Messenger wal-rasūli
and the Messenger مِنۢ from min
from بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after مَآ what mā
what أَصَابَهُمُ befell them aṣābahumu
befell them ٱلْقَرْحُ ۚ the injury l-qarḥu
the injury لِلَّذِينَ for those who lilladhīna
for those who أَحْسَنُوا۟ did good aḥsanū
did good مِنْهُمْ among them min'hum
among them وَٱتَّقَوْا۟ and feared Allah wa-ittaqaw
and feared Allah أَجْرٌ (is) a reward ajrun
(is) a reward عَظِيمٌ great ʿaẓīmun
great ١٧٢ (172)
(172)
Those [believers] who responded to Allāh and the Messenger after injury had struck them. For those who did good among them and feared Allāh is a great reward -
3:173
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who قَالَ said qāla
said لَهُمُ to them lahumu
to them ٱلنَّاسُ [the people] l-nāsu
[the people] إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱلنَّاسَ the people l-nāsa
the people قَدْ (have) certainly qad
(have) certainly جَمَعُوا۟ gathered jamaʿū
gathered لَكُمْ against you lakum
against you فَٱخْشَوْهُمْ so fear them fa-ikh'shawhum
so fear them فَزَادَهُمْ But it increased them fazādahum
But it increased them إِيمَـٰنًۭا (in) faith īmānan
(in) faith وَقَالُوا۟ and they said waqālū
and they said حَسْبُنَا Sufficient for us ḥasbunā
Sufficient for us ٱللَّهُ (is) Allah l-lahu
(is) Allah وَنِعْمَ and (He is the) best waniʿ'ma
and (He is the) best ٱلْوَكِيلُ [the] Disposer of affairs l-wakīlu
[the] Disposer of affairs ١٧٣ (173)
(173)
Those to whom people [i.e., hypocrites] said, "Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them." But it [merely] increased them in faith, and they said, "Sufficient for us is Allāh, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs."1
3:174
فَٱنقَلَبُوا۟ So they returned fa-inqalabū
So they returned بِنِعْمَةٍۢ with (the) Favor biniʿ'matin
with (the) Favor مِّنَ of mina
of ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah وَفَضْلٍۢ and Bounty wafaḍlin
and Bounty لَّمْ not lam
not يَمْسَسْهُمْ touched them yamsashum
touched them سُوٓءٌۭ any harm sūon
any harm وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ And they followed wa-ittabaʿū
And they followed رِضْوَٰنَ (the) pleasure riḍ'wāna
(the) pleasure ٱللَّهِ ۗ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah وَٱللَّهُ and Allah wal-lahu
and Allah ذُو (is) Possessor dhū
(is) Possessor فَضْلٍ (of) Bounty faḍlin
(of) Bounty عَظِيمٍ great ʿaẓīmin
great ١٧٤ (174)
(174)
So they returned with favor from Allāh and bounty, no harm having touched them. And they pursued the pleasure of Allāh, and Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.
3:175
إِنَّمَا (It is) only innamā
(It is) only ذَٰلِكُمُ that dhālikumu
that ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ the Shaitaan l-shayṭānu
the Shaitaan يُخَوِّفُ frightens (you) yukhawwifu
frightens (you) أَوْلِيَآءَهُۥ (of) his allies awliyāahu
(of) his allies فَلَا So (do) not falā
So (do) not تَخَافُوهُمْ fear them takhāfūhum
fear them وَخَافُونِ but fear Me wakhāfūni
but fear Me إِن if in
if كُنتُم you are kuntum
you are مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers mu'minīna
believers ١٧٥ (175)
(175)
That is only Satan who frightens [you] of his supporters. So fear them not, but fear Me, if you are [indeed] believers.
3:176
وَلَا And (let) not walā
And (let) not يَحْزُنكَ grieve you yaḥzunka
grieve you ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who يُسَـٰرِعُونَ hasten yusāriʿūna
hasten فِى in(to) fī
in(to) ٱلْكُفْرِ ۚ [the] disbelief l-kuf'ri
[the] disbelief إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they innahum
Indeed, they لَن never lan
never يَضُرُّوا۟ will harm yaḍurrū
will harm ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah شَيْـًۭٔا ۗ (in) anything shayan
(in) anything يُرِيدُ intends yurīdu
intends ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah أَلَّا that not allā
that not يَجْعَلَ He will set yajʿala
He will set لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them حَظًّۭا any portion ḥaẓẓan
any portion فِى in fī
in ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۖ the Hereafter l-ākhirati
the Hereafter وَلَهُمْ And for them walahum
And for them عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment عَظِيمٌ great ʿaẓīmun
great ١٧٦ (176)
(176)
And do not be grieved, [O Muḥammad], by those who hasten into disbelief. Indeed, they will never harm Allāh at all. Allāh intends that He should give them no share in the Hereafter, and for them is a great punishment.
3:177
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who ٱشْتَرَوُا۟ (have) purchased ish'tarawū
(have) purchased ٱلْكُفْرَ [the] disbelief l-kuf'ra
[the] disbelief بِٱلْإِيمَـٰنِ with the faith bil-īmāni
with the faith لَن never lan
never يَضُرُّوا۟ will they harm yaḍurrū
will they harm ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah شَيْـًۭٔا (in) anything shayan
(in) anything وَلَهُمْ and for them walahum
and for them عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment أَلِيمٌۭ painful alīmun
painful ١٧٧ (177)
(177)
Indeed, those who purchase disbelief [in exchange] for faith - never will they harm Allāh at all, and for them is a painful punishment.
3:178
وَلَا And (let) not walā
And (let) not يَحْسَبَنَّ think yaḥsabanna
think ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who كَفَرُوٓا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved أَنَّمَا that annamā
that نُمْلِى We give respite num'lī
We give respite لَهُمْ to them lahum
to them خَيْرٌۭ (is) good khayrun
(is) good لِّأَنفُسِهِمْ ۚ for themselves li-anfusihim
for themselves إِنَّمَا Only innamā
Only نُمْلِى We give respite num'lī
We give respite لَهُمْ to them lahum
to them لِيَزْدَادُوٓا۟ so that they may increase liyazdādū
so that they may increase إِثْمًۭا ۚ (in) sins ith'man
(in) sins وَلَهُمْ and for them walahum
and for them عَذَابٌۭ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment مُّهِينٌۭ humiliating muhīnun
humiliating ١٧٨ (178)
(178)
And let not those who disbelieve ever think that [because] We extend their time [of enjoyment] it is better for them. We only extend it for them so that they may increase in sin, and for them is a humiliating punishment.
3:179
مَّا Not mā
Not كَانَ is kāna
is ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah لِيَذَرَ to leave liyadhara
to leave ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers l-mu'minīna
the believers عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on مَآ what mā
what أَنتُمْ you (are) antum
you (are) عَلَيْهِ in [it] ʿalayhi
in [it] حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until يَمِيزَ He separates yamīza
He separates ٱلْخَبِيثَ the evil l-khabītha
the evil مِنَ from mina
from ٱلطَّيِّبِ ۗ the good l-ṭayibi
the good وَمَا And not wamā
And not كَانَ is kāna
is ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah لِيُطْلِعَكُمْ to inform you liyuṭ'liʿakum
to inform you عَلَى about ʿalā
about ٱلْغَيْبِ the unseen l-ghaybi
the unseen وَلَـٰكِنَّ [and] but walākinna
[and] but ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah يَجْتَبِى chooses yajtabī
chooses مِن from min
from رُّسُلِهِۦ His Messengers rusulihi
His Messengers مَن whom man
whom يَشَآءُ ۖ He wills yashāu
He wills فَـَٔامِنُوا۟ so believe faāminū
so believe بِٱللَّهِ in Allah bil-lahi
in Allah وَرُسُلِهِۦ ۚ and His Messengers warusulihi
and His Messengers وَإِن and if wa-in
and if تُؤْمِنُوا۟ you believe tu'minū
you believe وَتَتَّقُوا۟ and fear (Allah) watattaqū
and fear (Allah) فَلَكُمْ then for you falakum
then for you أَجْرٌ (is a) reward ajrun
(is a) reward عَظِيمٌۭ great ʿaẓīmun
great ١٧٩ (179)
(179)
Allāh would not leave the believers in that [state] you are in [presently] until He separates the evil from the good. Nor would Allāh reveal to you the unseen. But [instead], Allāh chooses of His messengers whom He wills, so believe in Allāh and His messengers. And if you believe and fear Him, then for you is a great reward.
3:180
وَلَا And (let) not walā
And (let) not يَحْسَبَنَّ think yaḥsabanna
think ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who يَبْخَلُونَ withhold yabkhalūna
withhold بِمَآ of what bimā
of what ءَاتَىٰهُمُ (has) given them ātāhumu
(has) given them ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah مِن of min
of فَضْلِهِۦ His Bounty faḍlihi
His Bounty هُوَ (that) it huwa
(that) it خَيْرًۭا (is) good khayran
(is) good لَّهُم ۖ for them lahum
for them بَلْ Nay bal
Nay هُوَ it huwa
it شَرٌّۭ (is) bad sharrun
(is) bad لَّهُمْ ۖ for them lahum
for them سَيُطَوَّقُونَ Their necks will be encircled sayuṭawwaqūna
Their necks will be encircled مَا (with) what mā
(with) what بَخِلُوا۟ they withheld bakhilū
they withheld بِهِۦ [with it] bihi
[with it] يَوْمَ (on the) Day yawma
(on the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۗ (of) [the] Resurrection l-qiyāmati
(of) [the] Resurrection وَلِلَّهِ And for Allah walillahi
And for Allah مِيرَٰثُ (is the) heritage mīrāthu
(is the) heritage ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah بِمَا with what bimā
with what تَعْمَلُونَ you do taʿmalūna
you do خَبِيرٌۭ (is) All-Aware khabīrun
(is) All-Aware ١٨٠ (180)
(180)
And let not those who [greedily] withhold what Allāh has given them of His bounty ever think that it is better for them. Rather, it is worse for them. Their necks will be encircled by what they withheld on the Day of Resurrection. And to Allāh belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth. And Allāh, of what you do, is [fully] Aware.
3:181
لَّقَدْ Certainly laqad
Certainly سَمِعَ heard samiʿa
heard ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah قَوْلَ (the) saying qawla
(the) saying ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who alladhīna
(of) those who قَالُوٓا۟ said qālū
said إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah فَقِيرٌۭ (is) poor faqīrun
(is) poor وَنَحْنُ while we wanaḥnu
while we أَغْنِيَآءُ ۘ (are) rich aghniyāu
(are) rich سَنَكْتُبُ We will record sanaktubu
We will record مَا what mā
what قَالُوا۟ they said qālū
they said وَقَتْلَهُمُ and their killing waqatlahumu
and their killing ٱلْأَنۢبِيَآءَ the Prophets l-anbiyāa
the Prophets بِغَيْرِ without bighayri
without حَقٍّۢ (any) right ḥaqqin
(any) right وَنَقُولُ and We will say wanaqūlu
and We will say ذُوقُوا۟ Taste dhūqū
Taste عَذَابَ (the) punishment ʿadhāba
(the) punishment ٱلْحَرِيقِ (of) the Burning Fire l-ḥarīqi
(of) the Burning Fire ١٨١ (181)
(181)
Allāh has certainly heard the statement of those [Jews] who said, "Indeed, Allāh is poor, while we are rich." We will record what they said and their killing of the prophets without right and will say, "Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire.
3:182
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That بِمَا (is) because bimā
(is) because قَدَّمَتْ (of what) sent forth qaddamat
(of what) sent forth أَيْدِيكُمْ your hands aydīkum
your hands وَأَنَّ and that wa-anna
and that ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah لَيْسَ is not laysa
is not بِظَلَّامٍۢ unjust biẓallāmin
unjust لِّلْعَبِيدِ to (His) slaves lil'ʿabīdi
to (His) slaves ١٨٢ (182)
(182)
That is for what your hands have put forth and because Allāh is not ever unjust to [His] servants."
3:183
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who قَالُوٓا۟ said qālū
said إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah عَهِدَ (has) taken promise ʿahida
(has) taken promise إِلَيْنَآ from us ilaynā
from us أَلَّا that not allā
that not نُؤْمِنَ we (should) believe nu'mina
we (should) believe لِرَسُولٍ in a Messenger lirasūlin
in a Messenger حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until يَأْتِيَنَا he brings to us yatiyanā
he brings to us بِقُرْبَانٍۢ a sacrifice biqur'bānin
a sacrifice تَأْكُلُهُ consumes it takuluhu
consumes it ٱلنَّارُ ۗ the fire l-nāru
the fire قُلْ Say qul
Say قَدْ Surely qad
Surely جَآءَكُمْ came to you jāakum
came to you رُسُلٌۭ Messengers rusulun
Messengers مِّن from min
from قَبْلِى before me qablī
before me بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ with the clear Signs bil-bayināti
with the clear Signs وَبِٱلَّذِى and with what wabi-alladhī
and with what قُلْتُمْ you speak qul'tum
you speak فَلِمَ So why falima
So why قَتَلْتُمُوهُمْ you killed them qataltumūhum
you killed them إِن if in
if كُنتُمْ you are kuntum
you are صَـٰدِقِينَ truthful ṣādiqīna
truthful ١٨٣ (183)
(183)
[They are] those who said, "Indeed, Allāh has taken our promise not to believe any messenger until he brings us an offering which fire [from heaven] will consume." Say, "There have already come to you messengers before me with clear proofs and [even] that of which you speak. So why did you kill them, if you should be truthful?"
3:184
فَإِن Then if fa-in
Then if كَذَّبُوكَ they reject you kadhabūka
they reject you فَقَدْ then certainly faqad
then certainly كُذِّبَ were rejected kudhiba
were rejected رُسُلٌۭ Messengers rusulun
Messengers مِّن from min
from قَبْلِكَ before you qablika
before you جَآءُو (who) came jāū
(who) came بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ with the clear Signs bil-bayināti
with the clear Signs وَٱلزُّبُرِ and the Scriptures wal-zuburi
and the Scriptures وَٱلْكِتَـٰبِ and the Book wal-kitābi
and the Book ٱلْمُنِيرِ [the] Enlightening l-munīri
[the] Enlightening ١٨٤ (184)
(184)
Then if they deny you, [O Muḥammad] - so were messengers denied before you, who brought clear proofs and written ordinances and the enlightening Scripture.
3:185
كُلُّ Every kullu
Every نَفْسٍۢ soul nafsin
soul ذَآئِقَةُ (will) taste dhāiqatu
(will) taste ٱلْمَوْتِ ۗ [the] death l-mawti
[the] death وَإِنَّمَا and only wa-innamā
and only تُوَفَّوْنَ you will be paid in full tuwaffawna
you will be paid in full أُجُورَكُمْ your reward ujūrakum
your reward يَوْمَ (on the) Day yawma
(on the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۖ (of) [the] Resurrection l-qiyāmati
(of) [the] Resurrection فَمَن Then whoever faman
Then whoever زُحْزِحَ is drawn away zuḥ'ziḥa
is drawn away عَنِ from ʿani
from ٱلنَّارِ the Fire l-nāri
the Fire وَأُدْخِلَ and admitted wa-ud'khila
and admitted ٱلْجَنَّةَ (to) Paradise l-janata
(to) Paradise فَقَدْ then surely faqad
then surely فَازَ ۗ he is successful fāza
he is successful وَمَا And not wamā
And not ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ (is) the life l-ḥayatu
(is) the life ٱلدُّنْيَآ (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world إِلَّا except illā
except مَتَـٰعُ enjoyment matāʿu
enjoyment ٱلْغُرُورِ (of) delusion l-ghurūri
(of) delusion ١٨٥ (185)
(185)
Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained [his desire]. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion.
3:186
۞ لَتُبْلَوُنَّ You will certainly be tested latub'lawunna
You will certainly be tested فِىٓ in fī
in أَمْوَٰلِكُمْ your wealth amwālikum
your wealth وَأَنفُسِكُمْ and yourselves wa-anfusikum
and yourselves وَلَتَسْمَعُنَّ And you will certainly hear walatasmaʿunna
And you will certainly hear مِنَ from mina
from ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who أُوتُوا۟ were given ūtū
were given ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book l-kitāba
the Book مِن from min
from قَبْلِكُمْ before you qablikum
before you وَمِنَ and from wamina
and from ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who أَشْرَكُوٓا۟ associate partners with Allah ashrakū
associate partners with Allah أَذًۭى hurtful things adhan
hurtful things كَثِيرًۭا ۚ many kathīran
many وَإِن and if wa-in
and if تَصْبِرُوا۟ you are patient taṣbirū
you are patient وَتَتَّقُوا۟ and fear (Allah) watattaqū
and fear (Allah) فَإِنَّ then indeed fa-inna
then indeed ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that مِنْ (is) of min
(is) of عَزْمِ the matters ʿazmi
the matters ٱلْأُمُورِ (of) determination l-umūri
(of) determination ١٨٦ (186)
(186)
You will surely be tested in your possessions and in yourselves. And you will surely hear from those who were given the Scripture before you and from those who associate others with Allāh much abuse. But if you are patient and fear Allāh - indeed, that is of the matters [worthy] of resolve.
3:187
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh
And when أَخَذَ took akhadha
took ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah مِيثَـٰقَ a Covenant mīthāqa
a Covenant ٱلَّذِينَ (from) those who alladhīna
(from) those who أُوتُوا۟ were given ūtū
were given ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book l-kitāba
the Book لَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُۥ You certainly make it clear latubayyinunnahu
You certainly make it clear لِلنَّاسِ to the mankind lilnnāsi
to the mankind وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not تَكْتُمُونَهُۥ conceal it taktumūnahu
conceal it فَنَبَذُوهُ Then they threw it fanabadhūhu
Then they threw it وَرَآءَ behind warāa
behind ظُهُورِهِمْ their backs ẓuhūrihim
their backs وَٱشْتَرَوْا۟ and they exchanged wa-ish'taraw
and they exchanged بِهِۦ [with] it bihi
[with] it ثَمَنًۭا (for) a price thamanan
(for) a price قَلِيلًۭا ۖ little qalīlan
little فَبِئْسَ And wretched fabi'sa
And wretched مَا (is) what mā
(is) what يَشْتَرُونَ they purchase yashtarūna
they purchase ١٨٧ (187)
(187)
And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Allāh took a covenant from those who were given the Scripture, [saying], "You must make it clear [i.e., explain it] to the people and not conceal it." But they threw it away behind their backs and exchanged it for a small price. And wretched is that which they purchased.
3:188
لَا (Do) not lā
(Do) not تَحْسَبَنَّ think taḥsabanna
think ٱلَّذِينَ (that) those who alladhīna
(that) those who يَفْرَحُونَ rejoice yafraḥūna
rejoice بِمَآ in what bimā
in what أَتَوا۟ (they have) brought ataw
(they have) brought وَّيُحِبُّونَ and they love wayuḥibbūna
and they love أَن that an
that يُحْمَدُوا۟ they be praised yuḥ'madū
they be praised بِمَا for what bimā
for what لَمْ not lam
not يَفْعَلُوا۟ they do yafʿalū
they do فَلَا so (do) not falā
so (do) not تَحْسَبَنَّهُم think (that) they taḥsabannahum
think (that) they بِمَفَازَةٍۢ (will) escape bimafāzatin
(will) escape مِّنَ from mina
from ٱلْعَذَابِ ۖ the punishment l-ʿadhābi
the punishment وَلَهُمْ and for them walahum
and for them عَذَابٌ (is a) punishment ʿadhābun
(is a) punishment أَلِيمٌۭ painful alīmun
painful ١٨٨ (188)
(188)
And never think that those who rejoice in what they have perpetrated and like to be praised for what they did not do - never think them [to be] in safety from the punishment, and for them is a painful punishment.
3:189
وَلِلَّهِ And for Allah walillahi
And for Allah مُلْكُ (is the) dominion mul'ku
(is the) dominion ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth وَٱللَّهُ and Allah wal-lahu
and Allah عَلَىٰ (is) on ʿalā
(is) on كُلِّ every kulli
every شَىْءٍۢ thing shayin
thing قَدِيرٌ All-Powerful qadīrun
All-Powerful ١٨٩ (189)
(189)
And to Allāh belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and Allāh is over all things competent.
3:190
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed فِى in fī
in خَلْقِ (the) creation khalqi
(the) creation ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth وَٱخْتِلَـٰفِ and (in the) alternation wa-ikh'tilāfi
and (in the) alternation ٱلَّيْلِ (of) the night al-layli
(of) the night وَٱلنَّهَارِ and the day wal-nahāri
and the day لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ (are) surely Signs laāyātin
(are) surely Signs لِّأُو۟لِى for men li-ulī
for men ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ (of) understanding l-albābi
(of) understanding ١٩٠ (190)
(190)
Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding -
3:191
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who يَذْكُرُونَ remember yadhkurūna
remember ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah قِيَـٰمًۭا standing qiyāman
standing وَقُعُودًۭا and sitting waquʿūdan
and sitting وَعَلَىٰ and on waʿalā
and on جُنُوبِهِمْ their sides junūbihim
their sides وَيَتَفَكَّرُونَ and they reflect wayatafakkarūna
and they reflect فِى on fī
on خَلْقِ (the) creation khalqi
(the) creation ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth رَبَّنَا Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord مَا not mā
not خَلَقْتَ You have created khalaqta
You have created هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this بَـٰطِلًۭا (in) vain bāṭilan
(in) vain سُبْحَـٰنَكَ Glory be to You sub'ḥānaka
Glory be to You فَقِنَا so save us faqinā
so save us عَذَابَ (from the) punishment ʿadhāba
(from the) punishment ٱلنَّارِ (of) the Fire l-nāri
(of) the Fire ١٩١ (191)
(191)
Who remember Allāh while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], "Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
3:192
رَبَّنَآ Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord إِنَّكَ indeed [You] innaka
indeed [You] مَن whom man
whom تُدْخِلِ You admit tud'khili
You admit ٱلنَّارَ (to) the Fire l-nāra
(to) the Fire فَقَدْ then surely faqad
then surely أَخْزَيْتَهُۥ ۖ You (have) disgraced him akhzaytahu
You (have) disgraced him وَمَا and not wamā
and not لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ for the wrongdoers lilẓẓālimīna
for the wrongdoers مِنْ (are) any min
(are) any أَنصَارٍۢ helpers anṣārin
helpers ١٩٢ (192)
(192)
Our Lord, indeed whoever You admit to the Fire - You have disgraced him, and for the wrongdoers there are no helpers.
3:193
رَّبَّنَآ Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord إِنَّنَا indeed we innanā
indeed we سَمِعْنَا [we] heard samiʿ'nā
[we] heard مُنَادِيًۭا a caller munādiyan
a caller يُنَادِى calling yunādī
calling لِلْإِيمَـٰنِ to the faith lil'īmāni
to the faith أَنْ that an
that ءَامِنُوا۟ Believe āminū
Believe بِرَبِّكُمْ in your Lord birabbikum
in your Lord فَـَٔامَنَّا ۚ so we have believed faāmannā
so we have believed رَبَّنَا Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord فَٱغْفِرْ so forgive fa-igh'fir
so forgive لَنَا for us lanā
for us ذُنُوبَنَا our sins dhunūbanā
our sins وَكَفِّرْ and remove wakaffir
and remove عَنَّا from us ʿannā
from us سَيِّـَٔاتِنَا our evil deeds sayyiātinā
our evil deeds وَتَوَفَّنَا and cause us to die watawaffanā
and cause us to die مَعَ with maʿa
with ٱلْأَبْرَارِ the righteous l-abrāri
the righteous ١٩٣ (193)
(193)
Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] calling to faith, [saying], 'Believe in your Lord,' and we have believed. Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die among the righteous.
3:194
رَبَّنَا Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord وَءَاتِنَا grant us waātinā
grant us مَا what mā
what وَعَدتَّنَا You promised us waʿadttanā
You promised us عَلَىٰ through ʿalā
through رُسُلِكَ Your Messengers rusulika
Your Messengers وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not تُخْزِنَا disgrace us tukh'zinā
disgrace us يَوْمَ (on the) Day yawma
(on the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۗ (of) [the] Resurrection l-qiyāmati
(of) [the] Resurrection إِنَّكَ Indeed, You innaka
Indeed, You لَا (do) not lā
(do) not تُخْلِفُ break tukh'lifu
break ٱلْمِيعَادَ the promise l-mīʿāda
the promise ١٩٤ (194)
(194)
Our Lord, and grant us what You promised us through Your messengers and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You do not fail in [Your] promise."
3:195
فَٱسْتَجَابَ Then responded fa-is'tajāba
Then responded لَهُمْ to them lahum
to them رَبُّهُمْ their Lord rabbuhum
their Lord أَنِّى Indeed, I annī
Indeed, I لَآ (will) not lā
(will) not أُضِيعُ (let go) waste uḍīʿu
(let go) waste عَمَلَ deeds ʿamala
deeds عَـٰمِلٍۢ (of the) doer ʿāmilin
(of the) doer مِّنكُم among you minkum
among you مِّن [from] min
[from] ذَكَرٍ (whether) male dhakarin
(whether) male أَوْ or aw
or أُنثَىٰ ۖ female unthā
female بَعْضُكُم each of you baʿḍukum
each of you مِّنۢ from min
from بَعْضٍۢ ۖ (the) other baʿḍin
(the) other فَٱلَّذِينَ So those who fa-alladhīna
So those who هَاجَرُوا۟ emigrated hājarū
emigrated وَأُخْرِجُوا۟ and were driven out wa-ukh'rijū
and were driven out مِن from min
from دِيَـٰرِهِمْ their homes diyārihim
their homes وَأُوذُوا۟ and were harmed waūdhū
and were harmed فِى in fī
in سَبِيلِى My way sabīlī
My way وَقَـٰتَلُوا۟ and fought waqātalū
and fought وَقُتِلُوا۟ and were killed waqutilū
and were killed لَأُكَفِّرَنَّ surely I (will) remove la-ukaffiranna
surely I (will) remove عَنْهُمْ from them ʿanhum
from them سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ their evil deeds sayyiātihim
their evil deeds وَلَأُدْخِلَنَّهُمْ and surely I will admit them wala-ud'khilannahum
and surely I will admit them جَنَّـٰتٍۢ (to) Gardens jannātin
(to) Gardens تَجْرِى flowing tajrī
flowing مِن from min
from تَحْتِهَا underneath them taḥtihā
underneath them ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ the rivers l-anhāru
the rivers ثَوَابًۭا a reward thawāban
a reward مِّنْ from min
from عِندِ [near] ʿindi
[near] ٱللَّهِ ۗ Allah l-lahi
Allah وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah عِندَهُۥ with Him ʿindahu
with Him حُسْنُ (is the) best ḥus'nu
(is the) best ٱلثَّوَابِ reward l-thawābi
reward ١٩٥ (195)
(195)
And their Lord responded to them, "Never will I allow to be lost the work of [any] worker among you, whether male or female; you are of one another. So those who emigrated or were evicted from their homes or were harmed in My cause or fought or were killed - I will surely remove from them their misdeeds, and I will surely admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow as reward from Allāh, and Allāh has with Him the best reward."
3:196
لَا (Let) not lā
(Let) not يَغُرَّنَّكَ deceive you yaghurrannaka
deceive you تَقَلُّبُ (the) movement taqallubu
(the) movement ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who alladhīna
(of) those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved فِى in fī
in ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ the land l-bilādi
the land ١٩٦ (196)
(196)
Be not deceived by the [uninhibited] movement of the disbelievers throughout the land.
3:197
مَتَـٰعٌۭ An enjoyment matāʿun
An enjoyment قَلِيلٌۭ little qalīlun
little ثُمَّ then thumma
then مَأْوَىٰهُمْ their abode mawāhum
their abode جَهَنَّمُ ۚ (is) hell jahannamu
(is) hell وَبِئْسَ [and] a wretched wabi'sa
[and] a wretched ٱلْمِهَادُ [the] resting place l-mihādu
[the] resting place ١٩٧ (197)
(197)
[It is but] a small enjoyment; then their [final] refuge is Hell, and wretched is the resting place.
3:198
لَـٰكِنِ But lākini
But ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who ٱتَّقَوْا۟ fear ittaqaw
fear رَبَّهُمْ their Lord rabbahum
their Lord لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them جَنَّـٰتٌۭ (will be) Gardens jannātun
(will be) Gardens تَجْرِى flows tajrī
flows مِن from min
from تَحْتِهَا underneath them taḥtihā
underneath them ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ the rivers l-anhāru
the rivers خَـٰلِدِينَ will abide forever khālidīna
will abide forever فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it نُزُلًۭا a hospitality nuzulan
a hospitality مِّنْ from min
from عِندِ [near] ʿindi
[near] ٱللَّهِ ۗ Allah l-lahi
Allah وَمَا And what wamā
And what عِندَ (is) with ʿinda
(is) with ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah خَيْرٌۭ (is) best khayrun
(is) best لِّلْأَبْرَارِ for the righteous lil'abrāri
for the righteous ١٩٨ (198)
(198)
But those who feared their Lord will have gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein, as accommodation from Allāh. And that which is with Allāh is best for the righteous.
3:199
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed مِنْ among min
among أَهْلِ (the) People ahli
(the) People ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book l-kitābi
(of) the Book لَمَن (are those) who laman
(are those) who يُؤْمِنُ believe yu'minu
believe بِٱللَّهِ in Allah bil-lahi
in Allah وَمَآ and what wamā
and what أُنزِلَ was revealed unzila
was revealed إِلَيْكُمْ to you ilaykum
to you وَمَآ and what wamā
and what أُنزِلَ was revealed unzila
was revealed إِلَيْهِمْ to them ilayhim
to them خَـٰشِعِينَ humbly submissive khāshiʿīna
humbly submissive لِلَّهِ to Allah lillahi
to Allah لَا Not lā
Not يَشْتَرُونَ (do) they exchange yashtarūna
(do) they exchange بِـَٔايَـٰتِ [with] (the) Verses biāyāti
[with] (the) Verses ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah ثَمَنًۭا (for) a price thamanan
(for) a price قَلِيلًا ۗ little qalīlan
little أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them أَجْرُهُمْ their reward ajruhum
their reward عِندَ (is) with ʿinda
(is) with رَبِّهِمْ ۗ their Lord rabbihim
their Lord إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah سَرِيعُ (is) swift sarīʿu
(is) swift ٱلْحِسَابِ (in taking) the account l-ḥisābi
(in taking) the account ١٩٩ (199)
(199)
And indeed, among the People of the Scripture are those who believe in Allāh and what was revealed to you and what was revealed to them, [being] humbly submissive to Allāh. They do not exchange the verses of Allāh for a small price. Those will have their reward with their Lord. Indeed, Allāh is swift in account.
3:200
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā
O you ٱلَّذِينَ who alladhīna
who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe[d] āmanū
believe[d] ٱصْبِرُوا۟ Be steadfast iṣ'birū
Be steadfast وَصَابِرُوا۟ and [be] patient waṣābirū
and [be] patient وَرَابِطُوا۟ and [be] constant warābiṭū
and [be] constant وَٱتَّقُوا۟ and fear wa-ittaqū
and fear ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah لَعَلَّكُمْ so that you may laʿallakum
so that you may تُفْلِحُونَ (be) successful tuf'liḥūna
(be) successful ٢٠٠ (200)
(200)
O you who have believed, persevere and endure and remain stationed and fear Allāh that you may be successful.
