بسملة
بِسْمِ In (the) name bis'mi
In (the) name ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
٨٨:١
هَلْ Has hal
Has أَتَىٰكَ (there) come to you atāka
(there) come to you حَدِيثُ (the) news ḥadīthu
(the) news ٱلْغَـٰشِيَةِ (of) the Overwhelming l-ghāshiyati
(of) the Overwhelming ١ (1)
(1)
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]?
٨٨:٢
وُجُوهٌۭ Faces wujūhun
Faces يَوْمَئِذٍ that Day yawma-idhin
that Day خَـٰشِعَةٌ (will be) humbled khāshiʿatun
(will be) humbled ٢ (2)
(2)
[Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled,
٨٨:٣
عَامِلَةٌۭ Laboring ʿāmilatun
Laboring نَّاصِبَةٌۭ exhausted nāṣibatun
exhausted ٣ (3)
(3)
Working [hard] and exhausted.
٨٨:٤
تَصْلَىٰ They will burn taṣlā
They will burn نَارًا (in) a Fire nāran
(in) a Fire حَامِيَةًۭ intensely hot ḥāmiyatan
intensely hot ٤ (4)
(4)
They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire.
٨٨:٥
تُسْقَىٰ They will be given to drink tus'qā
They will be given to drink مِنْ from min
from عَيْنٍ a spring ʿaynin
a spring ءَانِيَةٍۢ boiling āniyatin
boiling ٥ (5)
(5)
They will be given drink from a boiling spring.
٨٨:٦
لَّيْسَ Not is laysa
Not is لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them طَعَامٌ food ṭaʿāmun
food إِلَّا except illā
except مِن from min
from ضَرِيعٍۢ a bitter thorny plant ḍarīʿin
a bitter thorny plant ٦ (6)
(6)
For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant
٨٨:٧
لَّا Not lā
Not يُسْمِنُ it nourishes yus'minu
it nourishes وَلَا and not walā
and not يُغْنِى it avails yugh'nī
it avails مِن from min
from جُوعٍۢ hunger jūʿin
hunger ٧ (7)
(7)
Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger.
٨٨:٨
وُجُوهٌۭ Faces wujūhun
Faces يَوْمَئِذٍۢ that Day yawma-idhin
that Day نَّاعِمَةٌۭ (will be) joyful nāʿimatun
(will be) joyful ٨ (8)
(8)
[Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure.
٨٨:٩
لِّسَعْيِهَا With their effort lisaʿyihā
With their effort رَاضِيَةٌۭ satisfied rāḍiyatun
satisfied ٩ (9)
(9)
With their effort [they are] satisfied
٨٨:١٠
فِى In fī
In جَنَّةٍ a garden jannatin
a garden عَالِيَةٍۢ elevated ʿāliyatin
elevated ١٠ (10)
(10)
In an elevated garden,
٨٨:١١
لَّا Not lā
Not تَسْمَعُ they will hear tasmaʿu
they will hear فِيهَا therein fīhā
therein لَـٰغِيَةًۭ vain talk lāghiyatan
vain talk ١١ (11)
(11)
Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech.
٨٨:١٢
فِيهَا Therein fīhā
Therein عَيْنٌۭ (will be) a spring ʿaynun
(will be) a spring جَارِيَةٌۭ flowing jāriyatun
flowing ١٢ (12)
(12)
Within it is a flowing spring.
٨٨:١٣
فِيهَا Therein fīhā
Therein سُرُرٌۭ (will be) thrones sururun
(will be) thrones مَّرْفُوعَةٌۭ raised high marfūʿatun
raised high ١٣ (13)
(13)
Within it are couches raised high
٨٨:١٤
وَأَكْوَابٌۭ And cups wa-akwābun
And cups مَّوْضُوعَةٌۭ put in place mawḍūʿatun
put in place ١٤ (14)
(14)
And cups put in place
٨٨:١٥
وَنَمَارِقُ And cushions wanamāriqu
And cushions مَصْفُوفَةٌۭ lined up maṣfūfatun
lined up ١٥ (15)
(15)
And cushions lined up
٨٨:١٦
وَزَرَابِىُّ And carpets wazarābiyyu
And carpets مَبْثُوثَةٌ spread out mabthūthatun
spread out ١٦ (16)
(16)
And carpets spread around.
٨٨:١٧
أَفَلَا Then do not afalā
Then do not يَنظُرُونَ they look yanẓurūna
they look إِلَى towards ilā
towards ٱلْإِبِلِ the camels l-ibili
the camels كَيْفَ how kayfa
how خُلِقَتْ they are created khuliqat
they are created ١٧ (17)
(17)
Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created?
٨٨:١٨
وَإِلَى And towards wa-ilā
And towards ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky l-samāi
the sky كَيْفَ how kayfa
how رُفِعَتْ it is raised rufiʿat
it is raised ١٨ (18)
(18)
And at the sky - how it is raised?
٨٨:١٩
وَإِلَى And towards wa-ilā
And towards ٱلْجِبَالِ the mountains l-jibāli
the mountains كَيْفَ how kayfa
how نُصِبَتْ they are fixed nuṣibat
they are fixed ١٩ (19)
(19)
And at the mountains - how they are erected?
٨٨:٢٠
وَإِلَى And towards wa-ilā
And towards ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth كَيْفَ how kayfa
how سُطِحَتْ it is spread out suṭiḥat
it is spread out ٢٠ (20)
(20)
And at the earth - how it is spread out?
٨٨:٢١
فَذَكِّرْ So remind fadhakkir
So remind إِنَّمَآ only innamā
only أَنتَ you anta
you مُذَكِّرٌۭ (are) a reminder mudhakkirun
(are) a reminder ٢١ (21)
(21)
So remind, [O Muḥammad]; you are only a reminder.
٨٨:٢٢
لَّسْتَ You are not lasta
You are not عَلَيْهِم over them ʿalayhim
over them بِمُصَيْطِرٍ a controller bimuṣayṭirin
a controller ٢٢ (22)
(22)
You are not over them a controller.
٨٨:٢٣
إِلَّا But illā
But مَن whoever man
whoever تَوَلَّىٰ turns away tawallā
turns away وَكَفَرَ and disbelieves wakafara
and disbelieves ٢٣ (23)
(23)
However, he who turns away and disbelieves
٨٨:٢٤
فَيُعَذِّبُهُ Then will punish him fayuʿadhibuhu
Then will punish him ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah ٱلْعَذَابَ (with) the punishment l-ʿadhāba
(with) the punishment ٱلْأَكْبَرَ greatest l-akbara
greatest ٢٤ (24)
(24)
Then Allāh will punish him with the greatest punishment.
٨٨:٢٥
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed إِلَيْنَآ to Us ilaynā
to Us إِيَابَهُمْ (will be) their return iyābahum
(will be) their return ٢٥ (25)
(25)
Indeed, to Us is their return.
٨٨:٢٦
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then إِنَّ indeed inna
indeed عَلَيْنَا upon Us ʿalaynā
upon Us حِسَابَهُم (is) their account ḥisābahum
(is) their account ٢٦ (26)
(26)
Then indeed, upon Us is their account.
