Al-Mu'minun

Meccan 118 Ayahs Juz 18
المؤمنون
Bismillah
بِسْمِ In (the) name bis'mi
In (the) name
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
23:1
قَدْ Indeed qad
Indeed
أَفْلَحَ successful aflaḥa
successful
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ (are) the believers l-mu'minūna
(are) the believers
١ (1)
(1)
Certainly will the believers have succeeded:
23:2
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who
هُمْ [they] hum
[they]
فِى during
during
صَلَاتِهِمْ their prayers ṣalātihim
their prayers
خَـٰشِعُونَ (are) humbly submissive khāshiʿūna
(are) humbly submissive
٢ (2)
(2)
They who are during their prayer humbly intent
23:3
وَٱلَّذِينَ Those who wa-alladhīna
Those who
هُمْ [they] hum
[they]
عَنِ from ʿani
from
ٱللَّغْوِ the vain talk l-laghwi
the vain talk
مُعْرِضُونَ turn away muʿ'riḍūna
turn away
٣ (3)
(3)
And they who turn away from ill speech
23:4
وَٱلَّذِينَ Those who wa-alladhīna
Those who
هُمْ [they] hum
[they]
لِلزَّكَوٰةِ of purification works lilzzakati
of purification works
فَـٰعِلُونَ (are) doers fāʿilūna
(are) doers
٤ (4)
(4)
And they who are observant of zakāh
23:5
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
هُمْ [they] hum
[they]
لِفُرُوجِهِمْ of their modesty lifurūjihim
of their modesty
حَـٰفِظُونَ (are) guardians ḥāfiẓūna
(are) guardians
٥ (5)
(5)
And they who guard their private parts
23:6
إِلَّا Except illā
Except
عَلَىٰٓ from ʿalā
from
أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ their spouses azwājihim
their spouses
أَوْ or aw
or
مَا what
what
مَلَكَتْ possess malakat
possess
أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ their right hands aymānuhum
their right hands
فَإِنَّهُمْ then indeed, they fa-innahum
then indeed, they
غَيْرُ (are) not ghayru
(are) not
مَلُومِينَ blameworthy malūmīna
blameworthy
٦ (6)
(6)
Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed -
23:7
فَمَنِ Then whoever famani
Then whoever
ٱبْتَغَىٰ seeks ib'taghā
seeks
وَرَآءَ beyond warāa
beyond
ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those fa-ulāika
then those
هُمُ [they] humu
[they]
ٱلْعَادُونَ (are) the transgressors l-ʿādūna
(are) the transgressors
٧ (7)
(7)
But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors -
23:8
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
هُمْ [they] hum
[they]
لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ of their trusts li-amānātihim
of their trusts
وَعَهْدِهِمْ and their promise(s) waʿahdihim
and their promise(s)
رَٰعُونَ (are) observers rāʿūna
(are) observers
٨ (8)
(8)
And they who are to their trusts and their promises attentive
23:9
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
هُمْ [they] hum
[they]
عَلَىٰ over ʿalā
over
صَلَوَٰتِهِمْ their prayers ṣalawātihim
their prayers
يُحَافِظُونَ they guard yuḥāfiẓūna
they guard
٩ (9)
(9)
And they who carefully maintain their prayers -
23:10
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
هُمُ [they] humu
[they]
ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ (are) the inheritors l-wārithūna
(are) the inheritors
١٠ (10)
(10)
Those are the inheritors
23:11
ٱلَّذِينَ Who alladhīna
Who
يَرِثُونَ will inherit yarithūna
will inherit
ٱلْفِرْدَوْسَ the Paradise l-fir'dawsa
the Paradise
هُمْ They hum
They
فِيهَا therein fīhā
therein
خَـٰلِدُونَ (will) abide forever khālidūna
(will) abide forever
١١ (11)
(11)
Who will inherit al-Firdaus. They will abide therein eternally.
23:12
وَلَقَدْ And indeed walaqad
And indeed
خَلَقْنَا We created khalaqnā
We created
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ the humankind l-insāna
the humankind
مِن from min
from
سُلَـٰلَةٍۢ an essence sulālatin
an essence
مِّن of min
of
طِينٍۢ clay ṭīnin
clay
١٢ (12)
(12)
And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay.
23:13
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
جَعَلْنَـٰهُ We placed him jaʿalnāhu
We placed him
نُطْفَةًۭ (as) a semen-drop nuṭ'fatan
(as) a semen-drop
فِى in
in
قَرَارٍۢ a resting place qarārin
a resting place
مَّكِينٍۢ firm makīnin
firm
١٣ (13)
(13)
Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging [i.e., the womb].
23:14
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
خَلَقْنَا We created khalaqnā
We created
ٱلنُّطْفَةَ the semen-drop l-nuṭ'fata
the semen-drop
عَلَقَةًۭ (into) a clinging substance ʿalaqatan
(into) a clinging substance
فَخَلَقْنَا then We created fakhalaqnā
then We created
ٱلْعَلَقَةَ the clinging substance l-ʿalaqata
the clinging substance
مُضْغَةًۭ (into) an embryonic lump muḍ'ghatan
(into) an embryonic lump
فَخَلَقْنَا then We created fakhalaqnā
then We created
ٱلْمُضْغَةَ the embryonic lump l-muḍ'ghata
the embryonic lump
عِظَـٰمًۭا (into) bones ʿiẓāman
(into) bones
فَكَسَوْنَا then We clothed fakasawnā
then We clothed
ٱلْعِظَـٰمَ the bones l-ʿiẓāma
the bones
لَحْمًۭا (with) flesh laḥman
(with) flesh
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
أَنشَأْنَـٰهُ We produce it anshanāhu
We produce it
خَلْقًا (as) a creation khalqan
(as) a creation
ءَاخَرَ ۚ another ākhara
another
فَتَبَارَكَ So blessed is fatabāraka
So blessed is
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
أَحْسَنُ (the) Best aḥsanu
(the) Best
ٱلْخَـٰلِقِينَ (of) the Creators l-khāliqīna
(of) the Creators
١٤ (14)
(14)
Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allāh, the best of creators.
23:15
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
إِنَّكُم indeed, you innakum
indeed, you
بَعْدَ after baʿda
after
ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that
لَمَيِّتُونَ surely (will) die lamayyitūna
surely (will) die
١٥ (15)
(15)
Then indeed, after that you are to die.
23:16
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
إِنَّكُمْ indeed, you innakum
indeed, you
يَوْمَ (on the) Day yawma
(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
تُبْعَثُونَ will be resurrected tub'ʿathūna
will be resurrected
١٦ (16)
(16)
Then indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, will be resurrected.
23:17
وَلَقَدْ And indeed walaqad
And indeed
خَلَقْنَا We (have) created khalaqnā
We (have) created
فَوْقَكُمْ above you fawqakum
above you
سَبْعَ seven sabʿa
seven
طَرَآئِقَ paths ṭarāiqa
paths
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
كُنَّا We are kunnā
We are
عَنِ of ʿani
of
ٱلْخَلْقِ the creation l-khalqi
the creation
غَـٰفِلِينَ unaware ghāfilīna
unaware
١٧ (17)
(17)
And We have created above you seven layered heavens, and never have We been of [Our] creation unaware.
23:18
وَأَنزَلْنَا And We send down wa-anzalnā
And We send down
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky l-samāi
the sky
مَآءًۢ water māan
water
بِقَدَرٍۢ in (due) measure biqadarin
in (due) measure
فَأَسْكَنَّـٰهُ then We cause it to settle fa-askannāhu
then We cause it to settle
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
وَإِنَّا And indeed, We wa-innā
And indeed, We
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
ذَهَابٍۭ taking it away dhahābin
taking it away
بِهِۦ taking it away bihi
taking it away
لَقَـٰدِرُونَ surely (are) Able laqādirūna
surely (are) Able
١٨ (18)
(18)
And We have sent down rain from the sky in a measured amount and settled it in the earth. And indeed, We are Able to take it away.
23:19
فَأَنشَأْنَا Then We produced fa-anshanā
Then We produced
لَكُم for you lakum
for you
بِهِۦ by it bihi
by it
جَنَّـٰتٍۢ gardens jannātin
gardens
مِّن of date-palms min
of date-palms
نَّخِيلٍۢ of date-palms nakhīlin
of date-palms
وَأَعْنَـٰبٍۢ and grapevines wa-aʿnābin
and grapevines
لَّكُمْ for you lakum
for you
فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it
فَوَٰكِهُ (are) fruits fawākihu
(are) fruits
كَثِيرَةٌۭ abundant kathīratun
abundant
وَمِنْهَا and from them wamin'hā
and from them
تَأْكُلُونَ you eat takulūna
you eat
١٩ (19)
(19)
And We brought forth for you thereby gardens of palm trees and grapevines in which for you are abundant fruits and from which you eat.
23:20
وَشَجَرَةًۭ And a tree washajaratan
And a tree
تَخْرُجُ (that) springs forth takhruju
(that) springs forth
مِن from min
from
طُورِ Mount Sinai ṭūri
Mount Sinai
سَيْنَآءَ Mount Sinai saynāa
Mount Sinai
تَنۢبُتُ (which) produces tanbutu
(which) produces
بِٱلدُّهْنِ oil bil-duh'ni
oil
وَصِبْغٍۢ and a relish waṣib'ghin
and a relish
لِّلْـَٔاكِلِينَ for those who eat lil'ākilīna
for those who eat
٢٠ (20)
(20)
And [We brought forth] a tree issuing from Mount Sinai which produces oil and food [i.e., olives] for those who eat.
23:21
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
لَكُمْ for you lakum
for you
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ the cattle l-anʿāmi
the cattle
لَعِبْرَةًۭ ۖ surely, (is) a lesson laʿib'ratan
surely, (is) a lesson
نُّسْقِيكُم We give you drink nus'qīkum
We give you drink
مِّمَّا from what mimmā
from what
فِى (is) in
(is) in
بُطُونِهَا their bellies buṭūnihā
their bellies
وَلَكُمْ and for you walakum
and for you
فِيهَا in them fīhā
in them
مَنَـٰفِعُ (are) benefits manāfiʿu
(are) benefits
كَثِيرَةٌۭ many kathīratun
many
وَمِنْهَا and of them wamin'hā
and of them
تَأْكُلُونَ you eat takulūna
you eat
٢١ (21)
(21)
And indeed, for you in livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from that which is in their bellies, and for you in them are numerous benefits, and from them you eat.
23:22
وَعَلَيْهَا And on them waʿalayhā
And on them
وَعَلَى and on waʿalā
and on
ٱلْفُلْكِ [the] ships l-ful'ki
[the] ships
تُحْمَلُونَ you are carried tuḥ'malūna
you are carried
٢٢ (22)
(22)
And upon them and on ships you are carried.
23:23
وَلَقَدْ And verily walaqad
And verily
أَرْسَلْنَا We sent arsalnā
We sent
نُوحًا Nuh nūḥan
Nuh
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
قَوْمِهِۦ his people qawmihi
his people
فَقَالَ and he said faqāla
and he said
يَـٰقَوْمِ O my people yāqawmi
O my people
ٱعْبُدُوا۟ Worship uʿ'budū
Worship
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
مَا not
not
لَكُم for you lakum
for you
مِّنْ (is) any min
(is) any
إِلَـٰهٍ god ilāhin
god
غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ other than Him ghayruhu
other than Him
أَفَلَا Then will not afalā
Then will not
تَتَّقُونَ you fear tattaqūna
you fear
٢٣ (23)
(23)
And We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?"
23:24
فَقَالَ But said faqāla
But said
ٱلْمَلَؤُا۟ the chiefs l-mala-u
the chiefs
ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who alladhīna
(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved
مِن among min
among
قَوْمِهِۦ his people qawmihi
his people
مَا This is not
This is not
هَـٰذَآ This is not hādhā
This is not
إِلَّا but illā
but
بَشَرٌۭ a man basharun
a man
مِّثْلُكُمْ like you mith'lukum
like you
يُرِيدُ he wishes yurīdu
he wishes
أَن to an
to
يَتَفَضَّلَ assert (his) superiority yatafaḍḍala
assert (his) superiority
عَلَيْكُمْ over you ʿalaykum
over you
وَلَوْ and if walaw
and if
شَآءَ Allah had willed shāa
Allah had willed
ٱللَّهُ Allah had willed l-lahu
Allah had willed
لَأَنزَلَ surely He (would have) sent down la-anzala
surely He (would have) sent down
مَلَـٰٓئِكَةًۭ Angels malāikatan
Angels
مَّا Not
Not
سَمِعْنَا we heard samiʿ'nā
we heard
بِهَـٰذَا of this bihādhā
of this
فِىٓ from
from
ءَابَآئِنَا our forefathers ābāinā
our forefathers
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ our forefathers l-awalīna
our forefathers
٢٤ (24)
(24)
But the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, "This is not but a man like yourselves who wishes to take precedence over you; and if Allāh had willed [to send a messenger], He would have sent down angels. We have not heard of this among our forefathers.
23:25
إِنْ Not in
Not
هُوَ he huwa
he
إِلَّا (is) but illā
(is) but
رَجُلٌۢ a man rajulun
a man
بِهِۦ in him bihi
in him
جِنَّةٌۭ (is) madness jinnatun
(is) madness
فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ so wait fatarabbaṣū
so wait
بِهِۦ concerning him bihi
concerning him
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
حِينٍۢ a time ḥīnin
a time
٢٥ (25)
(25)
He is not but a man possessed with madness, so wait concerning him for a time."
23:26
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
ٱنصُرْنِى Help me unṣur'nī
Help me
بِمَا because bimā
because
كَذَّبُونِ they deny me kadhabūni
they deny me
٢٦ (26)
(26)
[Noah] said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me."
23:27
فَأَوْحَيْنَآ So We inspired fa-awḥaynā
So We inspired
إِلَيْهِ to him ilayhi
to him
أَنِ That ani
That
ٱصْنَعِ construct iṣ'naʿi
construct
ٱلْفُلْكَ the ship l-ful'ka
the ship
بِأَعْيُنِنَا under Our eyes bi-aʿyuninā
under Our eyes
وَوَحْيِنَا and Our inspiration wawaḥyinā
and Our inspiration
فَإِذَا then when fa-idhā
then when
جَآءَ comes jāa
comes
أَمْرُنَا Our Command amrunā
Our Command
وَفَارَ and gushes forth wafāra
and gushes forth
ٱلتَّنُّورُ ۙ the oven l-tanūru
the oven
فَٱسْلُكْ then put fa-us'luk
then put
فِيهَا into it fīhā
into it
مِن of min
of
كُلٍّۢ every (kind) kullin
every (kind)
زَوْجَيْنِ (of) mates zawjayni
(of) mates
ٱثْنَيْنِ two ith'nayni
two
وَأَهْلَكَ and your family wa-ahlaka
and your family
إِلَّا except illā
except
مَن those man
those
سَبَقَ (has) preceded sabaqa
(has) preceded
عَلَيْهِ against whom ʿalayhi
against whom
ٱلْقَوْلُ the Word l-qawlu
the Word
مِنْهُمْ ۖ thereof min'hum
thereof
وَلَا And (do) not walā
And (do) not
تُخَـٰطِبْنِى address Me tukhāṭib'nī
address Me
فِى concerning
concerning
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ظَلَمُوٓا۟ ۖ wronged ẓalamū
wronged
إِنَّهُم indeed, they innahum
indeed, they
مُّغْرَقُونَ (are) the ones to be drowned mugh'raqūna
(are) the ones to be drowned
٢٧ (27)
(27)
So We inspired to him, "Construct the ship under Our observation and Our inspiration, and when Our command comes and the oven overflows, put into it [i.e., the ship] from each [creature] two mates and your family, except him for whom the decree [of destruction] has proceeded. And do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are to be drowned.
23:28
فَإِذَا And when fa-idhā
And when
ٱسْتَوَيْتَ you (have) boarded is'tawayta
you (have) boarded
أَنتَ you anta
you
وَمَن and whoever waman
and whoever
مَّعَكَ (is) with you maʿaka
(is) with you
عَلَى [on] ʿalā
[on]
ٱلْفُلْكِ the ship l-ful'ki
the ship
فَقُلِ then say faquli
then say
ٱلْحَمْدُ Praise l-ḥamdu
Praise
لِلَّهِ (be) to Allah lillahi
(be) to Allah
ٱلَّذِى Who alladhī
Who
نَجَّىٰنَا (has) saved us najjānā
(has) saved us
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلْقَوْمِ the people l-qawmi
the people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
٢٨ (28)
(28)
And when you have boarded the ship, you and those with you, then say, 'Praise to Allāh who has saved us from the wrongdoing people.'
23:29
وَقُل And say waqul
And say
رَّبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
أَنزِلْنِى cause me to land anzil'nī
cause me to land
مُنزَلًۭا (at) a landing place munzalan
(at) a landing place
مُّبَارَكًۭا blessed mubārakan
blessed
وَأَنتَ and You wa-anta
and You
خَيْرُ (are) the Best khayru
(are) the Best
ٱلْمُنزِلِينَ (of) those who cause to land.' l-munzilīna
(of) those who cause to land.'
٢٩ (29)
(29)
And say, 'My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best to accommodate [us].'"
23:30
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
فِى in
in
ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) Signs laāyātin
surely (are) Signs
وَإِن and indeed wa-in
and indeed
كُنَّا We are kunnā
We are
لَمُبْتَلِينَ surely testing lamub'talīna
surely testing
٣٠ (30)
(30)
Indeed in that are signs, and indeed, We are ever testing [Our servants].
23:31
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
أَنشَأْنَا We produced anshanā
We produced
مِنۢ after them min
after them
بَعْدِهِمْ after them baʿdihim
after them
قَرْنًا a generation qarnan
a generation
ءَاخَرِينَ another ākharīna
another
٣١ (31)
(31)
Then We produced after them a generation of others.
23:32
فَأَرْسَلْنَا And We sent fa-arsalnā
And We sent
فِيهِمْ among them fīhim
among them
رَسُولًۭا a Messenger rasūlan
a Messenger
مِّنْهُمْ from themselves min'hum
from themselves
أَنِ [that] ani
[that]
ٱعْبُدُوا۟ Worship uʿ'budū
Worship
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
مَا not
not
لَكُم for you lakum
for you
مِّنْ (is) any min
(is) any
إِلَـٰهٍ god ilāhin
god
غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ other than Him ghayruhu
other than Him
أَفَلَا Then will not afalā
Then will not
تَتَّقُونَ you fear tattaqūna
you fear
٣٢ (32)
(32)
And We sent among them a messenger from themselves, [saying], "Worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?"
23:33
وَقَالَ And said waqāla
And said
ٱلْمَلَأُ the chiefs l-mala-u
the chiefs
مِن of min
of
قَوْمِهِ his people qawmihi
his people
ٱلَّذِينَ who alladhīna
who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved kafarū
disbelieved
وَكَذَّبُوا۟ and denied wakadhabū
and denied
بِلِقَآءِ (the) meeting biliqāi
(the) meeting
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ (of) the Hereafter l-ākhirati
(of) the Hereafter
وَأَتْرَفْنَـٰهُمْ while We had given them luxury wa-atrafnāhum
while We had given them luxury
فِى in
in
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ the life l-ḥayati
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
مَا Not
Not
هَـٰذَآ (is) this hādhā
(is) this
إِلَّا but illā
but
بَشَرٌۭ a man basharun
a man
مِّثْلُكُمْ like you mith'lukum
like you
يَأْكُلُ He eats yakulu
He eats
مِمَّا of what mimmā
of what
تَأْكُلُونَ you eat takulūna
you eat
مِنْهُ [from it] min'hu
[from it]
وَيَشْرَبُ and he drinks wayashrabu
and he drinks
مِمَّا of what mimmā
of what
تَشْرَبُونَ you drink tashrabūna
you drink
٣٣ (33)
(33)
And the eminent among his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter while We had given them luxury in the worldly life said, "This is not but a man like yourselves. He eats of that from which you eat and drinks of what you drink.
23:34
وَلَئِنْ And surely if wala-in
And surely if
أَطَعْتُم you obey aṭaʿtum
you obey
بَشَرًۭا a man basharan
a man
مِّثْلَكُمْ like you mith'lakum
like you
إِنَّكُمْ indeed, you innakum
indeed, you
إِذًۭا then idhan
then
لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ surely (will be) losers lakhāsirūna
surely (will be) losers
٣٤ (34)
(34)
And if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers.
23:35
أَيَعِدُكُمْ Does he promise you ayaʿidukum
Does he promise you
أَنَّكُمْ that you annakum
that you
إِذَا when idhā
when
مِتُّمْ you are dead mittum
you are dead
وَكُنتُمْ and you become wakuntum
and you become
تُرَابًۭا dust turāban
dust
وَعِظَـٰمًا and bones waʿiẓāman
and bones
أَنَّكُم that you annakum
that you
مُّخْرَجُونَ (will be) brought forth mukh'rajūna
(will be) brought forth
٣٥ (35)
(35)
Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth [once more]?
23:36
۞ هَيْهَاتَ Far-(fetched) hayhāta
Far-(fetched)
هَيْهَاتَ far-(fetched) hayhāta
far-(fetched)
لِمَا is what limā
is what
تُوعَدُونَ you are promised tūʿadūna
you are promised
٣٦ (36)
(36)
How far, how far, is that which you are promised.
23:37
إِنْ Not in
Not
هِىَ it hiya
it
إِلَّا (is) but illā
(is) but
حَيَاتُنَا our life ḥayātunā
our life
ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
نَمُوتُ we die namūtu
we die
وَنَحْيَا and we live wanaḥyā
and we live
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
نَحْنُ we naḥnu
we
بِمَبْعُوثِينَ (will be) resurrected bimabʿūthīna
(will be) resurrected
٣٧ (37)
(37)
It [i.e., life] is not but our worldly life - we die and live, but we will not be resurrected.
23:38
إِنْ Not in
Not
هُوَ (is) he huwa
(is) he
إِلَّا but illā
but
رَجُلٌ a man rajulun
a man
ٱفْتَرَىٰ who (has) invented if'tarā
who (has) invented
عَلَى about ʿalā
about
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
كَذِبًۭا a lie kadhiban
a lie
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
نَحْنُ we naḥnu
we
لَهُۥ (in) him lahu
(in) him
بِمُؤْمِنِينَ (are) believers bimu'minīna
(are) believers
٣٨ (38)
(38)
He is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allāh, and we will not believe him."
23:39
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
ٱنصُرْنِى Help me unṣur'nī
Help me
بِمَا because bimā
because
كَذَّبُونِ they deny me kadhabūni
they deny me
٣٩ (39)
(39)
He said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me."
23:40
قَالَ He said qāla
He said
عَمَّا After a little while ʿammā
After a little while
قَلِيلٍۢ After a little while qalīlin
After a little while
لَّيُصْبِحُنَّ surely they will become layuṣ'biḥunna
surely they will become
نَـٰدِمِينَ regretful nādimīna
regretful
٤٠ (40)
(40)
[Allāh] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful."
23:41
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ So seized them fa-akhadhathumu
So seized them
ٱلصَّيْحَةُ the awful cry l-ṣayḥatu
the awful cry
بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth bil-ḥaqi
in truth
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ and We made them fajaʿalnāhum
and We made them
غُثَآءًۭ ۚ (as) rubbish of dead leaves ghuthāan
(as) rubbish of dead leaves
فَبُعْدًۭا So away fabuʿ'dan
So away
لِّلْقَوْمِ with the people lil'qawmi
with the people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
٤١ (41)
(41)
So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people.
23:42
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
أَنشَأْنَا We produced anshanā
We produced
مِنۢ after them min
after them
بَعْدِهِمْ after them baʿdihim
after them
قُرُونًا a generation qurūnan
a generation
ءَاخَرِينَ another ākharīna
another
٤٢ (42)
(42)
Then We produced after them other generations.
23:43
مَا Not
Not
تَسْبِقُ can precede tasbiqu
can precede
مِنْ any min
any
أُمَّةٍ nation ummatin
nation
أَجَلَهَا its term ajalahā
its term
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ they (can) delay (it) yastakhirūna
they (can) delay (it)
٤٣ (43)
(43)
No nation will precede its time [of termination], nor will they remain [thereafter].
23:44
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
أَرْسَلْنَا We sent arsalnā
We sent
رُسُلَنَا Our Messengers rusulanā
Our Messengers
تَتْرَا ۖ (in) succession tatrā
(in) succession
كُلَّ Every time kulla
Every time
مَا Every time
Every time
جَآءَ came jāa
came
أُمَّةًۭ (to) a nation ummatan
(to) a nation
رَّسُولُهَا its Messenger rasūluhā
its Messenger
كَذَّبُوهُ ۚ they denied him kadhabūhu
they denied him
فَأَتْبَعْنَا so We made (them) follow fa-atbaʿnā
so We made (them) follow
بَعْضَهُم some of them baʿḍahum
some of them
بَعْضًۭا others baʿḍan
others
وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ and We made them wajaʿalnāhum
and We made them
أَحَادِيثَ ۚ narrations aḥādītha
narrations
فَبُعْدًۭا So away fabuʿ'dan
So away
لِّقَوْمٍۢ with a people liqawmin
with a people
لَّا not
not
يُؤْمِنُونَ they believe yu'minūna
they believe
٤٤ (44)
(44)
Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe.
23:45
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
أَرْسَلْنَا We sent arsalnā
We sent
مُوسَىٰ Musa mūsā
Musa
وَأَخَاهُ and his brother wa-akhāhu
and his brother
هَـٰرُونَ Harun hārūna
Harun
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا with Our Signs biāyātinā
with Our Signs
وَسُلْطَـٰنٍۢ and an authority wasul'ṭānin
and an authority
مُّبِينٍ clear mubīnin
clear
٤٥ (45)
(45)
Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a clear authority
23:46
إِلَىٰ To ilā
To
فِرْعَوْنَ Firaun fir'ʿawna
Firaun
وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦ and his chiefs wamala-ihi
and his chiefs
فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ but they behaved arrogantly fa-is'takbarū
but they behaved arrogantly
وَكَانُوا۟ and they were wakānū
and they were
قَوْمًا a people qawman
a people
عَالِينَ haughty ʿālīna
haughty
٤٦ (46)
(46)
To Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were arrogant and were a haughty people.
23:47
فَقَالُوٓا۟ Then they said faqālū
Then they said
أَنُؤْمِنُ Shall we believe anu'minu
Shall we believe
لِبَشَرَيْنِ (in) two men libasharayni
(in) two men
مِثْلِنَا like ourselves mith'linā
like ourselves
وَقَوْمُهُمَا while their people waqawmuhumā
while their people
لَنَا for us lanā
for us
عَـٰبِدُونَ (are) slaves ʿābidūna
(are) slaves
٤٧ (47)
(47)
They said, "Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are for us in servitude?"
23:48
فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا So they denied them fakadhabūhumā
So they denied them
فَكَانُوا۟ and they became fakānū
and they became
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْمُهْلَكِينَ those who were destroyed l-muh'lakīna
those who were destroyed
٤٨ (48)
(48)
So they denied them and were of those destroyed.
23:49
وَلَقَدْ And verily walaqad
And verily
ءَاتَيْنَا We gave ātaynā
We gave
مُوسَى Musa mūsā
Musa
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Scripture l-kitāba
the Scripture
لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may laʿallahum
so that they may
يَهْتَدُونَ be guided yahtadūna
be guided
٤٩ (49)
(49)
And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided.
23:50
وَجَعَلْنَا And We made wajaʿalnā
And We made
ٱبْنَ (the) son ib'na
(the) son
مَرْيَمَ (of) Maryam maryama
(of) Maryam
وَأُمَّهُۥٓ and his mother wa-ummahu
and his mother
ءَايَةًۭ a Sign āyatan
a Sign
وَءَاوَيْنَـٰهُمَآ and We sheltered them waāwaynāhumā
and We sheltered them
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
رَبْوَةٍۢ a high ground rabwatin
a high ground
ذَاتِ of tranquility dhāti
of tranquility
قَرَارٍۢ of tranquility qarārin
of tranquility
وَمَعِينٍۢ and water springs wamaʿīnin
and water springs
٥٠ (50)
(50)
And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and sheltered them within a high ground having level [areas] and flowing water.
23:51
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O Messengers yāayyuhā
O Messengers
ٱلرُّسُلُ O Messengers l-rusulu
O Messengers
كُلُوا۟ Eat kulū
Eat
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ the good things l-ṭayibāti
the good things
وَٱعْمَلُوا۟ and do wa-iʿ'malū
and do
صَـٰلِحًا ۖ righteous (deeds) ṣāliḥan
righteous (deeds)
إِنِّى Indeed, I Am innī
Indeed, I Am
بِمَا of what bimā
of what
تَعْمَلُونَ you do taʿmalūna
you do
عَلِيمٌۭ All-Knower ʿalīmun
All-Knower
٥١ (51)
(51)
[Allāh said], "O messengers, eat from the good foods and work righteousness. Indeed I, of what you do, am Knowing.
23:52
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
هَـٰذِهِۦٓ this hādhihi
this
أُمَّتُكُمْ your religion ummatukum
your religion
أُمَّةًۭ (is) religion ummatan
(is) religion
وَٰحِدَةًۭ one wāḥidatan
one
وَأَنَا۠ And I Am wa-anā
And I Am
رَبُّكُمْ your Lord rabbukum
your Lord
فَٱتَّقُونِ so fear Me fa-ittaqūni
so fear Me
٥٢ (52)
(52)
And indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me."
23:53
فَتَقَطَّعُوٓا۟ But they cut off fataqaṭṭaʿū
But they cut off
أَمْرَهُم their affair (of unity) amrahum
their affair (of unity)
بَيْنَهُمْ between them baynahum
between them
زُبُرًۭا ۖ (into) sects zuburan
(into) sects
كُلُّ each kullu
each
حِزْبٍۭ faction ḥiz'bin
faction
بِمَا in what bimā
in what
لَدَيْهِمْ they have ladayhim
they have
فَرِحُونَ rejoicing fariḥūna
rejoicing
٥٣ (53)
(53)
But they [i.e., the people] divided their religion among them into portions [i.e., sects] - each faction, in what it has, rejoicing.
23:54
فَذَرْهُمْ So leave them fadharhum
So leave them
فِى in
in
غَمْرَتِهِمْ their confusion ghamratihim
their confusion
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
حِينٍ a time ḥīnin
a time
٥٤ (54)
(54)
So leave them in their confusion for a time.
23:55
أَيَحْسَبُونَ Do they think ayaḥsabūna
Do they think
أَنَّمَا that what annamā
that what
نُمِدُّهُم We extend to them numidduhum
We extend to them
بِهِۦ [with it] bihi
[with it]
مِن of min
of
مَّالٍۢ wealth mālin
wealth
وَبَنِينَ and children wabanīna
and children
٥٥ (55)
(55)
Do they think that what We extend to them of wealth and children
23:56
نُسَارِعُ We hasten nusāriʿu
We hasten
لَهُمْ to them lahum
to them
فِى in
in
ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ ۚ the good l-khayrāti
the good
بَل Nay bal
Nay
لَّا not
not
يَشْعُرُونَ they perceive yashʿurūna
they perceive
٥٦ (56)
(56)
Is [because] We hasten for them good things? Rather, they do not perceive.
23:57
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
هُم [they] hum
[they]
مِّنْ from min
from
خَشْيَةِ (the) fear khashyati
(the) fear
رَبِّهِم (of) their Lord rabbihim
(of) their Lord
مُّشْفِقُونَ (are) cautious mush'fiqūna
(are) cautious
٥٧ (57)
(57)
Indeed, they who are apprehensive from fear of their Lord
23:58
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those wa-alladhīna
And those
هُم [they] hum
[they]
بِـَٔايَـٰتِ in (the) Signs biāyāti
in (the) Signs
رَبِّهِمْ (of) their Lord rabbihim
(of) their Lord
يُؤْمِنُونَ believe yu'minūna
believe
٥٨ (58)
(58)
And they who believe in the signs of their Lord
23:59
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those wa-alladhīna
And those
هُم [they] hum
[they]
بِرَبِّهِمْ with their Lord birabbihim
with their Lord
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يُشْرِكُونَ associate partners yush'rikūna
associate partners
٥٩ (59)
(59)
And they who do not associate anything with their Lord
23:60
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
يُؤْتُونَ give yu'tūna
give
مَآ what
what
ءَاتَوا۟ they give ātaw
they give
وَّقُلُوبُهُمْ while their hearts waqulūbuhum
while their hearts
وَجِلَةٌ (are) fearful wajilatun
(are) fearful
أَنَّهُمْ because they annahum
because they
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
رَبِّهِمْ their Lord rabbihim
their Lord
رَٰجِعُونَ (will) return rājiʿūna
(will) return
٦٠ (60)
(60)
And they who give what they give while their hearts are fearful because they will be returning to their Lord -
23:61
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ (It is) those ulāika
(It is) those
يُسَـٰرِعُونَ who hasten yusāriʿūna
who hasten
فِى in
in
ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ the good (deeds) l-khayrāti
the good (deeds)
وَهُمْ and they wahum
and they
لَهَا in them lahā
in them
سَـٰبِقُونَ (are) foremost sābiqūna
(are) foremost
٦١ (61)
(61)
It is those who hasten to good deeds, and they outstrip [others] therein.
23:62
وَلَا And not walā
And not
نُكَلِّفُ We burden nukallifu
We burden
نَفْسًا any soul nafsan
any soul
إِلَّا except illā
except
وُسْعَهَا ۖ (to) its capacity wus'ʿahā
(to) its capacity
وَلَدَيْنَا and with Us waladaynā
and with Us
كِتَـٰبٌۭ (is) a Record kitābun
(is) a Record
يَنطِقُ (which) speaks yanṭiqu
(which) speaks
بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ with the truth bil-ḥaqi
with the truth
وَهُمْ and they wahum
and they
لَا (will) not
(will) not
يُظْلَمُونَ be wronged yuẓ'lamūna
be wronged
٦٢ (62)
(62)
And We charge no soul except [with that within] its capacity, and with Us is a record which speaks with truth; and they will not be wronged.
23:63
بَلْ Nay bal
Nay
قُلُوبُهُمْ their hearts qulūbuhum
their hearts
فِى (are) in
(are) in
غَمْرَةٍۢ confusion ghamratin
confusion
مِّنْ over min
over
هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this
وَلَهُمْ and for them walahum
and for them
أَعْمَـٰلٌۭ (are) deeds aʿmālun
(are) deeds
مِّن besides min
besides
دُونِ besides dūni
besides
ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that
هُمْ they hum
they
لَهَا for it lahā
for it
عَـٰمِلُونَ (are) doers ʿāmilūna
(are) doers
٦٣ (63)
(63)
But their hearts are covered with confusion over this, and they have [evil] deeds besides that [i.e., disbelief] which they are doing,
23:64
حَتَّىٰٓ Until ḥattā
Until
إِذَآ when idhā
when
أَخَذْنَا We seize akhadhnā
We seize
مُتْرَفِيهِم their affluent ones mut'rafīhim
their affluent ones
بِٱلْعَذَابِ with the punishment bil-ʿadhābi
with the punishment
إِذَا behold idhā
behold
هُمْ They hum
They
يَجْـَٔرُونَ cry for help yajarūna
cry for help
٦٤ (64)
(64)
Until when We seize their affluent ones with punishment, at once they are crying [to Allāh] for help.
23:65
لَا (Do) not
(Do) not
تَجْـَٔرُوا۟ cry for help tajarū
cry for help
ٱلْيَوْمَ ۖ today l-yawma
today
إِنَّكُم Indeed, you innakum
Indeed, you
مِّنَّا from Us minnā
from Us
لَا not
not
تُنصَرُونَ will be helped tunṣarūna
will be helped
٦٥ (65)
(65)
Do not cry out today. Indeed, by Us you will not be helped.
23:66
قَدْ Verily qad
Verily
كَانَتْ were kānat
were
ءَايَـٰتِى My Verses āyātī
My Verses
تُتْلَىٰ recited tut'lā
recited
عَلَيْكُمْ to you ʿalaykum
to you
فَكُنتُمْ but you used fakuntum
but you used
عَلَىٰٓ (to) on ʿalā
(to) on
أَعْقَـٰبِكُمْ your heels aʿqābikum
your heels
تَنكِصُونَ turn back tankiṣūna
turn back
٦٦ (66)
(66)
My verses had already been recited to you, but you were turning back on your heels.
23:67
مُسْتَكْبِرِينَ (Being) arrogant mus'takbirīna
(Being) arrogant
بِهِۦ about it bihi
about it
سَـٰمِرًۭا conversing by night sāmiran
conversing by night
تَهْجُرُونَ speaking evil tahjurūna
speaking evil
٦٧ (67)
(67)
In arrogance regarding it, conversing by night, speaking evil.
23:68
أَفَلَمْ Then, do not afalam
Then, do not
يَدَّبَّرُوا۟ they ponder yaddabbarū
they ponder
ٱلْقَوْلَ the Word l-qawla
the Word
أَمْ or am
or
جَآءَهُم has come to them jāahum
has come to them
مَّا what
what
لَمْ not lam
not
يَأْتِ (had) come yati
(had) come
ءَابَآءَهُمُ (to) their forefathers ābāahumu
(to) their forefathers
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (to) their forefathers l-awalīna
(to) their forefathers
٦٨ (68)
(68)
Then have they not reflected over the word [i.e., the Qur’ān], or has there come to them that which had not come to their forefathers?
23:69
أَمْ Or am
Or
لَمْ (do) not lam
(do) not
يَعْرِفُوا۟ they recognize yaʿrifū
they recognize
رَسُولَهُمْ their Messenger rasūlahum
their Messenger
فَهُمْ so they fahum
so they
لَهُۥ (are) rejecting him lahu
(are) rejecting him
مُنكِرُونَ (are) rejecting him munkirūna
(are) rejecting him
٦٩ (69)
(69)
Or did they not know their Messenger, so they are toward him disacknowledging?
23:70
أَمْ Or am
Or
يَقُولُونَ they say yaqūlūna
they say
بِهِۦ In him bihi
In him
جِنَّةٌۢ ۚ (is) madness jinnatun
(is) madness
بَلْ Nay bal
Nay
جَآءَهُم he brought them jāahum
he brought them
بِٱلْحَقِّ the truth bil-ḥaqi
the truth
وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ but most of them wa-aktharuhum
but most of them
لِلْحَقِّ to the truth lil'ḥaqqi
to the truth
كَـٰرِهُونَ (are) averse kārihūna
(are) averse
٧٠ (70)
(70)
Or do they say, "In him is madness"? Rather, he brought them the truth, but most of them, to the truth, are averse.
23:71
وَلَوِ But if walawi
But if
ٱتَّبَعَ (had) followed ittabaʿa
(had) followed
ٱلْحَقُّ the truth l-ḥaqu
the truth
أَهْوَآءَهُمْ their desires ahwāahum
their desires
لَفَسَدَتِ surely (would) have been corrupted lafasadati
surely (would) have been corrupted
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ the heavens l-samāwātu
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضُ and the earth wal-arḍu
and the earth
وَمَن and whoever waman
and whoever
فِيهِنَّ ۚ (is) therein fīhinna
(is) therein
بَلْ Nay bal
Nay
أَتَيْنَـٰهُم We have brought them ataynāhum
We have brought them
بِذِكْرِهِمْ their reminder bidhik'rihim
their reminder
فَهُمْ but they fahum
but they
عَن from ʿan
from
ذِكْرِهِم their reminder dhik'rihim
their reminder
مُّعْرِضُونَ (are) turning away muʿ'riḍūna
(are) turning away
٧١ (71)
(71)
But if the Truth [i.e., Allāh] had followed their inclinations, the heavens and the earth and whoever is in them would have been ruined. Rather, We have brought them their message, but they, from their message, are turning away.
23:72
أَمْ Or am
Or
تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ you ask them tasaluhum
you ask them
خَرْجًۭا (for) a payment kharjan
(for) a payment
فَخَرَاجُ But the payment fakharāju
But the payment
رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord rabbika
(of) your Lord
خَيْرٌۭ ۖ (is) best khayrun
(is) best
وَهُوَ and He wahuwa
and He
خَيْرُ (is) the Best khayru
(is) the Best
ٱلرَّٰزِقِينَ (of) the Providers l-rāziqīna
(of) the Providers
٧٢ (72)
(72)
Or do you, [O Muḥammad], ask them for payment? But the reward of your Lord is best, and He is the best of providers.
23:73
وَإِنَّكَ And indeed, you wa-innaka
And indeed, you
لَتَدْعُوهُمْ certainly call them latadʿūhum
certainly call them
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
صِرَٰطٍۢ (the) Path ṣirāṭin
(the) Path
مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ Straight mus'taqīmin
Straight
٧٣ (73)
(73)
And indeed, you invite them to a straight path.
23:74
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna
And indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يُؤْمِنُونَ believe yu'minūna
believe
بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ in the Hereafter bil-ākhirati
in the Hereafter
عَنِ from ʿani
from
ٱلصِّرَٰطِ the path l-ṣirāṭi
the path
لَنَـٰكِبُونَ surely (are) deviating lanākibūna
surely (are) deviating
٧٤ (74)
(74)
But indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter are deviating from the path.
23:75
۞ وَلَوْ And if walaw
And if
رَحِمْنَـٰهُمْ We had mercy on them raḥim'nāhum
We had mercy on them
وَكَشَفْنَا and We removed wakashafnā
and We removed
مَا what
what
بِهِم (was) on them bihim
(was) on them
مِّن of min
of
ضُرٍّۢ (the) hardship ḍurrin
(the) hardship
لَّلَجُّوا۟ surely they would persist lalajjū
surely they would persist
فِى in
in
طُغْيَـٰنِهِمْ their transgression ṭugh'yānihim
their transgression
يَعْمَهُونَ wandering blindly yaʿmahūna
wandering blindly
٧٥ (75)
(75)
And even if We gave them mercy and removed what was upon them of affliction, they would persist in their transgression, wandering blindly.
23:76
وَلَقَدْ And verily walaqad
And verily
أَخَذْنَـٰهُم We seized them akhadhnāhum
We seized them
بِٱلْعَذَابِ with the punishment bil-ʿadhābi
with the punishment
فَمَا but not famā
but not
ٱسْتَكَانُوا۟ they submit is'takānū
they submit
لِرَبِّهِمْ to their Lord lirabbihim
to their Lord
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
يَتَضَرَّعُونَ they supplicate humbly yataḍarraʿūna
they supplicate humbly
٧٦ (76)
(76)
And We had gripped them with suffering [as a warning], but they did not yield to their Lord, nor did they humbly supplicate, [and will continue thus]
23:77
حَتَّىٰٓ Until ḥattā
Until
إِذَا when idhā
when
فَتَحْنَا We opened fataḥnā
We opened
عَلَيْهِم for them ʿalayhim
for them
بَابًۭا a gate bāban
a gate
ذَا of a punishment dhā
of a punishment
عَذَابٍۢ of a punishment ʿadhābin
of a punishment
شَدِيدٍ severe shadīdin
severe
إِذَا behold idhā
behold
هُمْ They hum
They
فِيهِ in it fīhi
in it
مُبْلِسُونَ (will be in) despair mub'lisūna
(will be in) despair
٧٧ (77)
(77)
Until when We have opened before them a door of severe punishment, immediately they will be therein in despair.
23:78
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
ٱلَّذِىٓ (is) the One Who alladhī
(is) the One Who
أَنشَأَ produced ansha-a
produced
لَكُمُ for you lakumu
for you
ٱلسَّمْعَ the hearing l-samʿa
the hearing
وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَ and the sight wal-abṣāra
and the sight
وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۚ and the feeling wal-afidata
and the feeling
قَلِيلًۭا little qalīlan
little
مَّا (is) what
(is) what
تَشْكُرُونَ you give thanks tashkurūna
you give thanks
٧٨ (78)
(78)
And it is He who produced for you hearing and vision and hearts [i.e., intellect]; little are you grateful.
23:79
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who alladhī
(is) the One Who
ذَرَأَكُمْ multiplied you dhara-akum
multiplied you
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
وَإِلَيْهِ and to Him wa-ilayhi
and to Him
تُحْشَرُونَ you will be gathered tuḥ'sharūna
you will be gathered
٧٩ (79)
(79)
And it is He who has multiplied you throughout the earth, and to Him you will be gathered.
23:80
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa
And He
ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who alladhī
(is) the One Who
يُحْىِۦ gives life yuḥ'yī
gives life
وَيُمِيتُ and causes death wayumītu
and causes death
وَلَهُ and for Him walahu
and for Him
ٱخْتِلَـٰفُ (is the) alternation ikh'tilāfu
(is the) alternation
ٱلَّيْلِ (of) the night al-layli
(of) the night
وَٱلنَّهَارِ ۚ and the day wal-nahāri
and the day
أَفَلَا Then will not afalā
Then will not
تَعْقِلُونَ you reason taʿqilūna
you reason
٨٠ (80)
(80)
And it is He who gives life and causes death, and His is the alternation of the night and the day. Then will you not reason?
23:81
بَلْ Nay bal
Nay
قَالُوا۟ they say qālū
they say
مِثْلَ (the) like mith'la
(the) like
مَا (of) what
(of) what
قَالَ said qāla
said
ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ the former (people) l-awalūna
the former (people)
٨١ (81)
(81)
Rather, they say like what the former peoples said.
23:82
قَالُوٓا۟ They said qālū
They said
أَءِذَا What! When a-idhā
What! When
مِتْنَا we are dead mit'nā
we are dead
وَكُنَّا and become wakunnā
and become
تُرَابًۭا dust turāban
dust
وَعِظَـٰمًا and bones waʿiẓāman
and bones
أَءِنَّا would we a-innā
would we
لَمَبْعُوثُونَ surely be resurrected lamabʿūthūna
surely be resurrected
٨٢ (82)
(82)
They said, "When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?
23:83
لَقَدْ Verily laqad
Verily
وُعِدْنَا we have been promised wuʿid'nā
we have been promised
نَحْنُ [we] naḥnu
[we]
وَءَابَآؤُنَا and our forefathers waābāunā
and our forefathers
هَـٰذَا this hādhā
this
مِن before min
before
قَبْلُ before qablu
before
إِنْ not in
not
هَـٰذَآ (is) this hādhā
(is) this
إِلَّآ but illā
but
أَسَـٰطِيرُ (the) tales asāṭīru
(the) tales
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (of) the former (people) l-awalīna
(of) the former (people)
٨٣ (83)
(83)
We have been promised this, we and our forefathers, before; this is not but legends of the former peoples."
23:84
قُل Say qul
Say
لِّمَنِ To whom (belongs) limani
To whom (belongs)
ٱلْأَرْضُ the earth l-arḍu
the earth
وَمَن and whoever waman
and whoever
فِيهَآ (is) in it fīhā
(is) in it
إِن if in
if
كُنتُمْ you kuntum
you
تَعْلَمُونَ know taʿlamūna
know
٨٤ (84)
(84)
Say, [O Muḥammad], "To whom belongs the earth and whoever is in it, if you should know?"
23:85
سَيَقُولُونَ They will say sayaqūlūna
They will say
لِلَّهِ ۚ To Allah lillahi
To Allah
قُلْ Say qul
Say
أَفَلَا Then will not afalā
Then will not
تَذَكَّرُونَ you remember tadhakkarūna
you remember
٨٥ (85)
(85)
They will say, "To Allāh." Say, "Then will you not remember?"
23:86
قُلْ Say qul
Say
مَن Who man
Who
رَّبُّ (is the) Lord rabbu
(is the) Lord
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the seven heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the seven heavens
ٱلسَّبْعِ (of) the seven heavens l-sabʿi
(of) the seven heavens
وَرَبُّ and (the) Lord warabbu
and (the) Lord
ٱلْعَرْشِ (of) the Throne l-ʿarshi
(of) the Throne
ٱلْعَظِيمِ the Great l-ʿaẓīmi
the Great
٨٦ (86)
(86)
Say, "Who is Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Great Throne?"
23:87
سَيَقُولُونَ They will say sayaqūlūna
They will say
لِلَّهِ ۚ Allah lillahi
Allah
قُلْ Say qul
Say
أَفَلَا Then will not afalā
Then will not
تَتَّقُونَ you fear (Him) tattaqūna
you fear (Him)
٨٧ (87)
(87)
They will say, "[They belong] to Allāh." Say, "Then will you not fear Him?"
23:88
قُلْ Say qul
Say
مَنۢ Who is (it) man
Who is (it)
بِيَدِهِۦ in Whose Hand(s) biyadihi
in Whose Hand(s)
مَلَكُوتُ (is the) dominion malakūtu
(is the) dominion
كُلِّ (of) all kulli
(of) all
شَىْءٍۢ things shayin
things
وَهُوَ and He wahuwa
and He
يُجِيرُ protects yujīru
protects
وَلَا and no (one) walā
and no (one)
يُجَارُ (can) be protected yujāru
(can) be protected
عَلَيْهِ against Him ʿalayhi
against Him
إِن If in
If
كُنتُمْ you kuntum
you
تَعْلَمُونَ know taʿlamūna
know
٨٨ (88)
(88)
Say, "In whose hand is the realm of all things - and He protects while none can protect against Him - if you should know?"
23:89
سَيَقُولُونَ They will say sayaqūlūna
They will say
لِلَّهِ ۚ Allah lillahi
Allah
قُلْ Say qul
Say
فَأَنَّىٰ Then how fa-annā
Then how
تُسْحَرُونَ are you deluded tus'ḥarūna
are you deluded
٨٩ (89)
(89)
They will say, "[All belongs] to Allāh." Say, "Then how are you deluded?"
23:90
بَلْ Nay bal
Nay
أَتَيْنَـٰهُم We (have) brought them ataynāhum
We (have) brought them
بِٱلْحَقِّ the truth bil-ḥaqi
the truth
وَإِنَّهُمْ but indeed, they wa-innahum
but indeed, they
لَكَـٰذِبُونَ surely, (are) liars lakādhibūna
surely, (are) liars
٩٠ (90)
(90)
Rather, We have brought them the truth, and indeed they are liars.
23:91
مَا Not
Not
ٱتَّخَذَ Allah has taken ittakhadha
Allah has taken
ٱللَّهُ Allah has taken l-lahu
Allah has taken
مِن any min
any
وَلَدٍۢ son waladin
son
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
كَانَ is kāna
is
مَعَهُۥ with Him maʿahu
with Him
مِنْ any min
any
إِلَـٰهٍ ۚ god ilāhin
god
إِذًۭا Then idhan
Then
لَّذَهَبَ surely (would have) taken away ladhahaba
surely (would have) taken away
كُلُّ each kullu
each
إِلَـٰهٍۭ god ilāhin
god
بِمَا what bimā
what
خَلَقَ he created khalaqa
he created
وَلَعَلَا and surely would have overpowered walaʿalā
and surely would have overpowered
بَعْضُهُمْ some of them baʿḍuhum
some of them
عَلَىٰ [on] ʿalā
[on]
بَعْضٍۢ ۚ others baʿḍin
others
سُبْحَـٰنَ Glory be sub'ḥāna
Glory be
ٱللَّهِ (to) Allah l-lahi
(to) Allah
عَمَّا above what ʿammā
above what
يَصِفُونَ they attribute yaṣifūna
they attribute
٩١ (91)
(91)
Allāh has not taken any son, nor has there ever been with Him any deity. [If there had been], then each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have [sought to] overcome others. Exalted is Allāh above what they describe [concerning Him].
23:92
عَـٰلِمِ Knower ʿālimi
Knower
ٱلْغَيْبِ (of) the unseen l-ghaybi
(of) the unseen
وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ and the witnessed wal-shahādati
and the witnessed
فَتَعَـٰلَىٰ exalted is He fataʿālā
exalted is He
عَمَّا above what ʿammā
above what
يُشْرِكُونَ they associate yush'rikūna
they associate
٩٢ (92)
(92)
[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, so high is He above what they associate [with Him].
23:93
قُل Say qul
Say
رَّبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
إِمَّا If immā
If
تُرِيَنِّى You should show me turiyannī
You should show me
مَا what
what
يُوعَدُونَ they are promised yūʿadūna
they are promised
٩٣ (93)
(93)
Say, [O Muḥammad], "My Lord, if You should show me that which they are promised,
23:94
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
فَلَا then (do) not falā
then (do) not
تَجْعَلْنِى place me tajʿalnī
place me
فِى among
among
ٱلْقَوْمِ the people l-qawmi
the people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
٩٤ (94)
(94)
My Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people."
23:95
وَإِنَّا And indeed We wa-innā
And indeed We
عَلَىٰٓ on ʿalā
on
أَن that an
that
نُّرِيَكَ We show you nuriyaka
We show you
مَا what
what
نَعِدُهُمْ We have promised them naʿiduhum
We have promised them
لَقَـٰدِرُونَ surely able laqādirūna
surely able
٩٥ (95)
(95)
And indeed, We are Able to show you what We have promised them.
23:96
ٱدْفَعْ Repel id'faʿ
Repel
بِٱلَّتِى by that bi-allatī
by that
هِىَ which hiya
which
أَحْسَنُ (is) best aḥsanu
(is) best
ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ ۚ the evil l-sayi-ata
the evil
نَحْنُ We naḥnu
We
أَعْلَمُ know best aʿlamu
know best
بِمَا of what bimā
of what
يَصِفُونَ they attribute yaṣifūna
they attribute
٩٦ (96)
(96)
Repel, by [means of] what is best, [their] evil. We are most knowing of what they describe.
23:97
وَقُل And say waqul
And say
رَّبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
أَعُوذُ I seek refuge aʿūdhu
I seek refuge
بِكَ in You bika
in You
مِنْ from min
from
هَمَزَٰتِ (the) suggestions hamazāti
(the) suggestions
ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ (of) the evil ones l-shayāṭīni
(of) the evil ones
٩٧ (97)
(97)
And say, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils,
23:98
وَأَعُوذُ And I seek refuge wa-aʿūdhu
And I seek refuge
بِكَ in You bika
in You
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
أَن Lest an
Lest
يَحْضُرُونِ they be present with me yaḥḍurūni
they be present with me
٩٨ (98)
(98)
And I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me."
23:99
حَتَّىٰٓ Until ḥattā
Until
إِذَا when idhā
when
جَآءَ comes jāa
comes
أَحَدَهُمُ (to) one of them aḥadahumu
(to) one of them
ٱلْمَوْتُ the death l-mawtu
the death
قَالَ he says qāla
he says
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
ٱرْجِعُونِ Send me back ir'jiʿūni
Send me back
٩٩ (99)
(99)
[For such is the state of the disbelievers] until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "My Lord, send me back
23:100
لَعَلِّىٓ That I may laʿallī
That I may
أَعْمَلُ do aʿmalu
do
صَـٰلِحًۭا righteous (deeds) ṣāliḥan
righteous (deeds)
فِيمَا in what fīmā
in what
تَرَكْتُ ۚ I left behind taraktu
I left behind
كَلَّآ ۚ No kallā
No
إِنَّهَا Indeed, it innahā
Indeed, it
كَلِمَةٌ (is) a word kalimatun
(is) a word
هُوَ he huwa
he
قَآئِلُهَا ۖ speaks it qāiluhā
speaks it
وَمِن and before them wamin
and before them
وَرَآئِهِم and before them warāihim
and before them
بَرْزَخٌ (is) a barrier barzakhun
(is) a barrier
إِلَىٰ till ilā
till
يَوْمِ (the) Day yawmi
(the) Day
يُبْعَثُونَ they are resurrected yub'ʿathūna
they are resurrected
١٠٠ (100)
(100)
That I might do righteousness in that which I left behind."1 No! It is only a word he is saying; and behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected.
23:101
فَإِذَا So when fa-idhā
So when
نُفِخَ is blown nufikha
is blown
فِى in
in
ٱلصُّورِ the trumpet l-ṣūri
the trumpet
فَلَآ then not falā
then not
أَنسَابَ (there) will be relationship ansāba
(there) will be relationship
بَيْنَهُمْ among them baynahum
among them
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ that Day yawma-idhin
that Day
وَلَا and not walā
and not
يَتَسَآءَلُونَ will they ask each other yatasāalūna
will they ask each other
١٠١ (101)
(101)
So when the Horn is blown, no relationship will there be among them that Day, nor will they ask about one another.
23:102
فَمَن Then (the one) whose faman
Then (the one) whose
ثَقُلَتْ (are) heavy thaqulat
(are) heavy
مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ his scales mawāzīnuhu
his scales
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those fa-ulāika
then those
هُمُ they humu
they
ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ (are) the successful l-muf'liḥūna
(are) the successful
١٠٢ (102)
(102)
And those whose scales are heavy [with good deeds] - it is they who are the successful.
23:103
وَمَنْ But (the one) whose waman
But (the one) whose
خَفَّتْ (are) light khaffat
(are) light
مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ his scales mawāzīnuhu
his scales
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those fa-ulāika
then those
ٱلَّذِينَ they [who] alladhīna
they [who]
خَسِرُوٓا۟ have lost khasirū
have lost
أَنفُسَهُمْ their souls anfusahum
their souls
فِى in
in
جَهَنَّمَ Hell jahannama
Hell
خَـٰلِدُونَ they (will) abide forever khālidūna
they (will) abide forever
١٠٣ (103)
(103)
But those whose scales are light - those are the ones who have lost their souls, [being] in Hell, abiding eternally.
23:104
تَلْفَحُ Will burn talfaḥu
Will burn
وُجُوهَهُمُ their faces wujūhahumu
their faces
ٱلنَّارُ the Fire l-nāru
the Fire
وَهُمْ and they wahum
and they
فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it
كَـٰلِحُونَ (will) grin with displaced lips kāliḥūna
(will) grin with displaced lips
١٠٤ (104)
(104)
The Fire will sear their faces, and they therein will have taut smiles.
23:105
أَلَمْ Were not alam
Were not
تَكُنْ Were not takun
Were not
ءَايَـٰتِى My Verses āyātī
My Verses
تُتْلَىٰ recited tut'lā
recited
عَلَيْكُمْ to you ʿalaykum
to you
فَكُنتُم and you used (to) fakuntum
and you used (to)
بِهَا deny them bihā
deny them
تُكَذِّبُونَ deny them tukadhibūna
deny them
١٠٥ (105)
(105)
[It will be said], "Were not My verses recited to you and you used to deny them?"
23:106
قَالُوا۟ They (will) say qālū
They (will) say
رَبَّنَا Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord
غَلَبَتْ Overcame ghalabat
Overcame
عَلَيْنَا [on] us ʿalaynā
[on] us
شِقْوَتُنَا our wretchedness shiq'watunā
our wretchedness
وَكُنَّا and we were wakunnā
and we were
قَوْمًۭا a people qawman
a people
ضَآلِّينَ astray ḍāllīna
astray
١٠٦ (106)
(106)
They will say, "Our Lord, our wretchedness overcame us, and we were a people astray.
23:107
رَبَّنَآ Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord
أَخْرِجْنَا Bring us out akhrij'nā
Bring us out
مِنْهَا from it min'hā
from it
فَإِنْ then if fa-in
then if
عُدْنَا we return ʿud'nā
we return
فَإِنَّا then indeed, we fa-innā
then indeed, we
ظَـٰلِمُونَ (would be) wrongdoers ẓālimūna
(would be) wrongdoers
١٠٧ (107)
(107)
Our Lord, remove us from it, and if we were to return [to evil], we would indeed be wrongdoers."
23:108
قَالَ He (will) say qāla
He (will) say
ٱخْسَـُٔوا۟ Remain despised ikh'saū
Remain despised
فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تُكَلِّمُونِ speak to Me tukallimūni
speak to Me
١٠٨ (108)
(108)
He will say, "Remain despised therein and do not speak to Me.
23:109
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed innahu
Indeed
كَانَ (there) was kāna
(there) was
فَرِيقٌۭ a party farīqun
a party
مِّنْ of min
of
عِبَادِى My slaves ʿibādī
My slaves
يَقُولُونَ (who) said yaqūlūna
(who) said
رَبَّنَآ Our Lord rabbanā
Our Lord
ءَامَنَّا We believe āmannā
We believe
فَٱغْفِرْ so forgive fa-igh'fir
so forgive
لَنَا us lanā
us
وَٱرْحَمْنَا and have mercy on us wa-ir'ḥamnā
and have mercy on us
وَأَنتَ and You wa-anta
and You
خَيْرُ (are) best khayru
(are) best
ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ (of) those who show mercy l-rāḥimīna
(of) those who show mercy
١٠٩ (109)
(109)
Indeed, there was a party of My servants who said, 'Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of the merciful.'
23:110
فَٱتَّخَذْتُمُوهُمْ But you took them fa-ittakhadhtumūhum
But you took them
سِخْرِيًّا (in) mockery sikh'riyyan
(in) mockery
حَتَّىٰٓ until ḥattā
until
أَنسَوْكُمْ they made you forget ansawkum
they made you forget
ذِكْرِى My remembrance dhik'rī
My remembrance
وَكُنتُم and you used (to) wakuntum
and you used (to)
مِّنْهُمْ at them min'hum
at them
تَضْحَكُونَ laugh taḍḥakūna
laugh
١١٠ (110)
(110)
But you took them in mockery to the point that they made you forget My remembrance, and you used to laugh at them.
23:111
إِنِّى Indeed, I innī
Indeed, I
جَزَيْتُهُمُ have rewarded them jazaytuhumu
have rewarded them
ٱلْيَوْمَ this Day l-yawma
this Day
بِمَا because bimā
because
صَبَرُوٓا۟ they were patient ṣabarū
they were patient
أَنَّهُمْ indeed, they annahum
indeed, they
هُمُ [they] humu
[they]
ٱلْفَآئِزُونَ (are) the successful ones l-fāizūna
(are) the successful ones
١١١ (111)
(111)
Indeed, I have rewarded them this Day for their patient endurance - that they are the attainers [of success]."
23:112
قَـٰلَ He will say qāla
He will say
كَمْ How long kam
How long
لَبِثْتُمْ did you remain labith'tum
did you remain
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
عَدَدَ (in) number ʿadada
(in) number
سِنِينَ (of) years sinīna
(of) years
١١٢ (112)
(112)
[Allāh] will say, "How long did you remain on earth in number of years?"
23:113
قَالُوا۟ They will say qālū
They will say
لَبِثْنَا We remained labith'nā
We remained
يَوْمًا a day yawman
a day
أَوْ or aw
or
بَعْضَ a part baʿḍa
a part
يَوْمٍۢ (of) a day yawmin
(of) a day
فَسْـَٔلِ but ask fasali
but ask
ٱلْعَآدِّينَ those who keep count l-ʿādīna
those who keep count
١١٣ (113)
(113)
They will say, "We remained a day or part of a day; ask those who enumerate."
23:114
قَـٰلَ He will say qāla
He will say
إِن Not in
Not
لَّبِثْتُمْ you stayed labith'tum
you stayed
إِلَّا but illā
but
قَلِيلًۭا ۖ a little qalīlan
a little
لَّوْ if law
if
أَنَّكُمْ only you annakum
only you
كُنتُمْ [you] kuntum
[you]
تَعْلَمُونَ knew taʿlamūna
knew
١١٤ (114)
(114)
He will say, "You stayed not but a little - if only you had known.
23:115
أَفَحَسِبْتُمْ Then did you think afaḥasib'tum
Then did you think
أَنَّمَا that annamā
that
خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ We created you khalaqnākum
We created you
عَبَثًۭا uselessly ʿabathan
uselessly
وَأَنَّكُمْ and that you wa-annakum
and that you
إِلَيْنَا to Us ilaynā
to Us
لَا not
not
تُرْجَعُونَ will be returned tur'jaʿūna
will be returned
١١٥ (115)
(115)
Then did you think that We created you uselessly and that to Us you would not be returned?"
23:116
فَتَعَـٰلَى So exalted is fataʿālā
So exalted is
ٱللَّهُ Allah l-lahu
Allah
ٱلْمَلِكُ the King l-maliku
the King
ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ the Truth l-ḥaqu
the Truth
لَآ (There is) no
(There is) no
إِلَـٰهَ god ilāha
god
إِلَّا except illā
except
هُوَ Him huwa
Him
رَبُّ (the) Lord rabbu
(the) Lord
ٱلْعَرْشِ (of) the Throne l-ʿarshi
(of) the Throne
ٱلْكَرِيمِ Honorable l-karīmi
Honorable
١١٦ (116)
(116)
So exalted is Allāh, the Sovereign, the Truth; there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.
23:117
وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever
يَدْعُ invokes yadʿu
invokes
مَعَ with maʿa
with
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
إِلَـٰهًا god ilāhan
god
ءَاخَرَ other ākhara
other
لَا no
no
بُرْهَـٰنَ proof bur'hāna
proof
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
بِهِۦ in it bihi
in it
فَإِنَّمَا Then only fa-innamā
Then only
حِسَابُهُۥ his account ḥisābuhu
his account
عِندَ (is) with ʿinda
(is) with
رَبِّهِۦٓ ۚ his Lord rabbihi
his Lord
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, [he] innahu
Indeed, [he]
لَا not
not
يُفْلِحُ will succeed yuf'liḥu
will succeed
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ the disbelievers l-kāfirūna
the disbelievers
١١٧ (117)
(117)
And whoever invokes besides Allāh another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.
23:118
وَقُل And say waqul
And say
رَّبِّ My Lord rabbi
My Lord
ٱغْفِرْ Forgive igh'fir
Forgive
وَٱرْحَمْ and have mercy wa-ir'ḥam
and have mercy
وَأَنتَ and You wa-anta
and You
خَيْرُ (are the) Best khayru
(are the) Best
ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ (of) those who show mercy l-rāḥimīna
(of) those who show mercy
١١٨ (118)
(118)
And, [O Muḥammad], say, "My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful."
