Bismillah
بِسْمِ In (the) name bis'mi
In (the) name
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
24:1
سُورَةٌ A Surah sūratun
A Surah
أَنزَلْنَـٰهَا We (have) sent it down anzalnāhā
We (have) sent it down
وَفَرَضْنَـٰهَا and We (have) made it obligatory wafaraḍnāhā
and We (have) made it obligatory
وَأَنزَلْنَا and We (have) revealed wa-anzalnā
and We (have) revealed
فِيهَآ therein fīhā
therein
ءَايَـٰتٍۭ Verses āyātin
Verses
بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ clear bayyinātin
clear
لَّعَلَّكُمْ so that you may laʿallakum
so that you may
تَذَكَّرُونَ take heed tadhakkarūna
take heed
١ (1)
(1)
[This is] a sūrah which We have sent down and made [that within it] obligatory and revealed therein verses of clear evidence that you might remember.
24:2
ٱلزَّانِيَةُ The fornicatress al-zāniyatu
The fornicatress
وَٱلزَّانِى and the fornicator wal-zānī
and the fornicator
فَٱجْلِدُوا۟ [then] flog fa-ij'lidū
[then] flog
كُلَّ each kulla
each
وَٰحِدٍۢ one wāḥidin
one
مِّنْهُمَا of them min'humā
of them
مِا۟ئَةَ (with) hundred mi-ata
(with) hundred
جَلْدَةٍۢ ۖ lash(es) jaldatin
lash(es)
وَلَا And (let) not walā
And (let) not
تَأْخُذْكُم withhold you takhudh'kum
withhold you
بِهِمَا pity for them bihimā
pity for them
رَأْفَةٌۭ pity for them rafatun
pity for them
فِى concerning
concerning
دِينِ (the) religion of Allah dīni
(the) religion of Allah
ٱللَّهِ (the) religion of Allah l-lahi
(the) religion of Allah
إِن if in
if
كُنتُمْ you kuntum
you
تُؤْمِنُونَ believe tu'minūna
believe
بِٱللَّهِ in Allah bil-lahi
in Allah
وَٱلْيَوْمِ and the Day wal-yawmi
and the Day
ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ ۖ the Last l-ākhiri
the Last
وَلْيَشْهَدْ And let witness walyashhad
And let witness
عَذَابَهُمَا their punishment ʿadhābahumā
their punishment
طَآئِفَةٌۭ a group ṭāifatun
a group
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers l-mu'minīna
the believers
٢ (2)
(2)
The [unmarried] woman or [unmarried] man found guilty of sexual intercourse - lash each one of them with a hundred lashes, and do not be taken by pity for them in the religion [i.e., law] of Allāh, if you should believe in Allāh and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment.
24:3
ٱلزَّانِى The fornicator al-zānī
The fornicator
لَا (will) not
(will) not
يَنكِحُ marry yankiḥu
marry
إِلَّا except illā
except
زَانِيَةً a fornicatress zāniyatan
a fornicatress
أَوْ or aw
or
مُشْرِكَةًۭ a polytheist woman mush'rikatan
a polytheist woman
وَٱلزَّانِيَةُ and the fornicatress wal-zāniyatu
and the fornicatress
لَا (will) not
(will) not
يَنكِحُهَآ marry her yankiḥuhā
marry her
إِلَّا except illā
except
زَانٍ a fornicator zānin
a fornicator
أَوْ or aw
or
مُشْرِكٌۭ ۚ a polytheist man mush'rikun
a polytheist man
وَحُرِّمَ And is forbidden waḥurrima
And is forbidden
ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that
عَلَى to ʿalā
to
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers l-mu'minīna
the believers
٣ (3)
(3)
The fornicator does not marry except a [female] fornicator or polytheist, and none marries her except a fornicator or a polytheist, and that [i.e., marriage to such persons] has been made unlawful to the believers.
24:4
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
يَرْمُونَ accuse yarmūna
accuse
ٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتِ the chaste women l-muḥ'ṣanāti
the chaste women
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
لَمْ not lam
not
يَأْتُوا۟ they bring yatū
they bring
بِأَرْبَعَةِ four bi-arbaʿati
four
شُهَدَآءَ witnesses shuhadāa
witnesses
فَٱجْلِدُوهُمْ then flog them fa-ij'lidūhum
then flog them
ثَمَـٰنِينَ (with) eighty thamānīna
(with) eighty
جَلْدَةًۭ lashe(s) jaldatan
lashe(s)
وَلَا and (do) not walā
and (do) not
تَقْبَلُوا۟ accept taqbalū
accept
لَهُمْ their lahum
their
شَهَـٰدَةً testimony shahādatan
testimony
أَبَدًۭا ۚ ever abadan
ever
وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ And those wa-ulāika
And those
هُمُ they humu
they
ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ (are) the defiantly disobedient l-fāsiqūna
(are) the defiantly disobedient
٤ (4)
(4)
And those who accuse chaste women and then do not produce four witnesses - lash them with eighty lashes and do not accept from them testimony ever after. And those are the defiantly disobedient,
24:5
إِلَّا Except illā
Except
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
تَابُوا۟ repent tābū
repent
مِنۢ after min
after
بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after
ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that
وَأَصْلَحُوا۟ and reform wa-aṣlaḥū
and reform
فَإِنَّ Then indeed fa-inna
Then indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
غَفُورٌۭ (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun
(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭ Most Merciful raḥīmun
Most Merciful
٥ (5)
(5)
Except for those who repent thereafter and reform, for indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
24:6
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
يَرْمُونَ accuse yarmūna
accuse
أَزْوَٰجَهُمْ their spouses azwājahum
their spouses
وَلَمْ and not walam
and not
يَكُن have yakun
have
لَّهُمْ for them lahum
for them
شُهَدَآءُ witnesses shuhadāu
witnesses
إِلَّآ except illā
except
أَنفُسُهُمْ themselves anfusuhum
themselves
فَشَهَـٰدَةُ then (the) testimony fashahādatu
then (the) testimony
أَحَدِهِمْ (of) one of them aḥadihim
(of) one of them
أَرْبَعُ (is) four arbaʿu
(is) four
شَهَـٰدَٰتٍۭ testimonies shahādātin
testimonies
بِٱللَّهِ ۙ by Allah bil-lahi
by Allah
إِنَّهُۥ that he innahu
that he
لَمِنَ (is) surely of lamina
(is) surely of
ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ the truthful l-ṣādiqīna
the truthful
٦ (6)
(6)
And those who accuse their wives [of adultery] and have no witnesses except themselves - then the witness of one of them [shall be] four testimonies [swearing] by Allāh that indeed, he is of the truthful.
24:7
وَٱلْخَـٰمِسَةُ And the fifth wal-khāmisatu
And the fifth
أَنَّ that anna
that
لَعْنَتَ (the) curse of Allah laʿnata
(the) curse of Allah
ٱللَّهِ (the) curse of Allah l-lahi
(the) curse of Allah
عَلَيْهِ (be) upon him ʿalayhi
(be) upon him
إِن if in
if
كَانَ he is kāna
he is
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ the liars l-kādhibīna
the liars
٧ (7)
(7)
And the fifth [oath will be] that the curse of Allāh be upon him if he should be of the liars.
24:8
وَيَدْرَؤُا۟ But it would prevent wayadra-u
But it would prevent
عَنْهَا from her ʿanhā
from her
ٱلْعَذَابَ the punishment l-ʿadhāba
the punishment
أَن that an
that
تَشْهَدَ she bears witness tashhada
she bears witness
أَرْبَعَ four arbaʿa
four
شَهَـٰدَٰتٍۭ testimonies shahādātin
testimonies
بِٱللَّهِ ۙ by Allah bil-lahi
by Allah
إِنَّهُۥ that he innahu
that he
لَمِنَ (is) surely of lamina
(is) surely of
ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ the liars l-kādhibīna
the liars
٨ (8)
(8)
But it will prevent punishment from her if she gives four testimonies [swearing] by Allāh that indeed, he is of the liars.
24:9
وَٱلْخَـٰمِسَةَ And the fifth wal-khāmisata
And the fifth
أَنَّ that anna
that
غَضَبَ the wrath of Allah ghaḍaba
the wrath of Allah
ٱللَّهِ the wrath of Allah l-lahi
the wrath of Allah
عَلَيْهَآ (be) upon her ʿalayhā
(be) upon her
إِن if in
if
كَانَ he is kāna
he is
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ the truthful l-ṣādiqīna
the truthful
٩ (9)
(9)
And the fifth [oath will be] that the wrath of Allāh be upon her if he was of the truthful.
24:10
وَلَوْلَا And if not walawlā
And if not
فَضْلُ (for) the Grace of Allah faḍlu
(for) the Grace of Allah
ٱللَّهِ (for) the Grace of Allah l-lahi
(for) the Grace of Allah
عَلَيْكُمْ upon you ʿalaykum
upon you
وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ and His Mercy waraḥmatuhu
and His Mercy
وَأَنَّ and that wa-anna
and that
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
تَوَّابٌ (is) Oft-Returning (to Mercy) tawwābun
(is) Oft-Returning (to Mercy)
حَكِيمٌ All-Wise ḥakīmun
All-Wise
١٠ (10)
(10)
And if not for the favor of Allāh upon you and His mercy... and because Allāh is Accepting of Repentance and Wise.
24:11
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
جَآءُو brought jāū
brought
بِٱلْإِفْكِ the lie bil-if'ki
the lie
عُصْبَةٌۭ (are) a group ʿuṣ'batun
(are) a group
مِّنكُمْ ۚ among you minkum
among you
لَا (Do) not
(Do) not
تَحْسَبُوهُ think it taḥsabūhu
think it
شَرًّۭا bad sharran
bad
لَّكُم ۖ for you lakum
for you
بَلْ nay bal
nay
هُوَ it huwa
it
خَيْرٌۭ (is) good khayrun
(is) good
لَّكُمْ ۚ for you lakum
for you
لِكُلِّ For every likulli
For every
ٱمْرِئٍۢ person im'ri-in
person
مِّنْهُم among them min'hum
among them
مَّا (is) what
(is) what
ٱكْتَسَبَ he earned ik'tasaba
he earned
مِنَ of mina
of
ٱلْإِثْمِ ۚ the sin l-ith'mi
the sin
وَٱلَّذِى and the one who wa-alladhī
and the one who
تَوَلَّىٰ took upon himself a greater share of it tawallā
took upon himself a greater share of it
كِبْرَهُۥ took upon himself a greater share of it kib'rahu
took upon himself a greater share of it
مِنْهُمْ among them min'hum
among them
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
عَظِيمٌۭ great ʿaẓīmun
great
١١ (11)
(11)
Indeed, those who came with falsehood are a group among you. Do not think it bad for you; rather, it is good for you. For every person among them is what [punishment] he has earned from the sin, and he who took upon himself the greater portion thereof - for him is a great punishment [i.e., Hellfire].
24:12
لَّوْلَآ Why not lawlā
Why not
إِذْ when idh
when
سَمِعْتُمُوهُ you heard it samiʿ'tumūhu
you heard it
ظَنَّ think ẓanna
think
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ the believing men l-mu'minūna
the believing men
وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتُ and the believing women wal-mu'minātu
and the believing women
بِأَنفُسِهِمْ good of themselves bi-anfusihim
good of themselves
خَيْرًۭا good of themselves khayran
good of themselves
وَقَالُوا۟ and say waqālū
and say
هَـٰذَآ This hādhā
This
إِفْكٌۭ (is) a lie if'kun
(is) a lie
مُّبِينٌۭ clear mubīnun
clear
١٢ (12)
(12)
Why, when you heard it, did not the believing men and believing women think good of themselves [i.e., one another] and say, "This is an obvious falsehood"?
24:13
لَّوْلَا Why (did) not lawlā
Why (did) not
جَآءُو they bring jāū
they bring
عَلَيْهِ for it ʿalayhi
for it
بِأَرْبَعَةِ four bi-arbaʿati
four
شُهَدَآءَ ۚ witnesses shuhadāa
witnesses
فَإِذْ Then when fa-idh
Then when
لَمْ not lam
not
يَأْتُوا۟ they brought yatū
they brought
بِٱلشُّهَدَآءِ the witnesses bil-shuhadāi
the witnesses
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those fa-ulāika
then those
عِندَ near Allah ʿinda
near Allah
ٱللَّهِ near Allah l-lahi
near Allah
هُمُ they humu
they
ٱلْكَـٰذِبُونَ (are) the liars l-kādhibūna
(are) the liars
١٣ (13)
(13)
Why did they [who slandered] not produce for it four witnesses? And when they do not produce the witnesses, then it is they, in the sight of Allāh, who are the liars.
24:14
وَلَوْلَا And if not walawlā
And if not
فَضْلُ (for the) Grace faḍlu
(for the) Grace
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
عَلَيْكُمْ upon you ʿalaykum
upon you
وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ and His Mercy waraḥmatuhu
and His Mercy
فِى in
in
ٱلدُّنْيَا the world l-dun'yā
the world
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ and the Hereafter wal-ākhirati
and the Hereafter
لَمَسَّكُمْ surely would have touched you lamassakum
surely would have touched you
فِى in
in
مَآ what
what
أَفَضْتُمْ you had rushed glibly afaḍtum
you had rushed glibly
فِيهِ concerning it fīhi
concerning it
عَذَابٌ a punishment ʿadhābun
a punishment
عَظِيمٌ great ʿaẓīmun
great
١٤ (14)
(14)
And if it had not been for the favor of Allāh upon you and His mercy in this world and the Hereafter, you would have been touched for that [lie] in which you were involved by a great punishment
24:15
إِذْ When idh
When
تَلَقَّوْنَهُۥ you received it talaqqawnahu
you received it
بِأَلْسِنَتِكُمْ with your tongues bi-alsinatikum
with your tongues
وَتَقُولُونَ and you said wataqūlūna
and you said
بِأَفْوَاهِكُم with your mouths bi-afwāhikum
with your mouths
مَّا what
what
لَيْسَ not laysa
not
لَكُم for you lakum
for you
بِهِۦ of it bihi
of it
عِلْمٌۭ any knowledge ʿil'mun
any knowledge
وَتَحْسَبُونَهُۥ and you thought it wataḥsabūnahu
and you thought it
هَيِّنًۭا (was) insignificant hayyinan
(was) insignificant
وَهُوَ while it wahuwa
while it
عِندَ (was) near Allah ʿinda
(was) near Allah
ٱللَّهِ (was) near Allah l-lahi
(was) near Allah
عَظِيمٌۭ great ʿaẓīmun
great
١٥ (15)
(15)
When you received it with your tongues and said with your mouths that of which you had no knowledge and thought it was insignificant while it was, in the sight of Allāh, tremendous.
24:16
وَلَوْلَآ And why not walawlā
And why not
إِذْ when idh
when
سَمِعْتُمُوهُ you heard it samiʿ'tumūhu
you heard it
قُلْتُم you said qul'tum
you said
مَّا Not
Not
يَكُونُ it is yakūnu
it is
لَنَآ for us lanā
for us
أَن that an
that
نَّتَكَلَّمَ we speak natakallama
we speak
بِهَـٰذَا of this bihādhā
of this
سُبْحَـٰنَكَ Glory be to You sub'ḥānaka
Glory be to You
هَـٰذَا This hādhā
This
بُهْتَـٰنٌ (is) a slander buh'tānun
(is) a slander
عَظِيمٌۭ great ʿaẓīmun
great
١٦ (16)
(16)
And why, when you heard it, did you not say, "It is not for us to speak of this. Exalted are You, [O Allāh]; this is a great slander"?
24:17
يَعِظُكُمُ Allah warns you yaʿiẓukumu
Allah warns you
ٱللَّهُ Allah warns you l-lahu
Allah warns you
أَن that an
that
تَعُودُوا۟ you return taʿūdū
you return
لِمِثْلِهِۦٓ (to the) like of it limith'lihi
(to the) like of it
أَبَدًا ever abadan
ever
إِن if in
if
كُنتُم you are kuntum
you are
مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers mu'minīna
believers
١٧ (17)
(17)
Allāh warns you against returning to the likes of this [conduct], ever, if you should be believers.
24:18
وَيُبَيِّنُ And Allah makes clear wayubayyinu
And Allah makes clear
ٱللَّهُ And Allah makes clear l-lahu
And Allah makes clear
لَكُمُ to you lakumu
to you
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ ۚ the Verses l-āyāti
the Verses
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
عَلِيمٌ (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knower
حَكِيمٌ All-Wise ḥakīmun
All-Wise
١٨ (18)
(18)
And Allāh makes clear to you the verses [i.e., His rulings], and Allāh is Knowing and Wise.
24:19
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
يُحِبُّونَ like yuḥibbūna
like
أَن that an
that
تَشِيعَ (should) spread tashīʿa
(should) spread
ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةُ the immorality l-fāḥishatu
the immorality
فِى among
among
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
أَلِيمٌۭ painful alīmun
painful
فِى in
in
ٱلدُّنْيَا the world l-dun'yā
the world
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۚ and the Hereafter wal-ākhirati
and the Hereafter
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
يَعْلَمُ knows yaʿlamu
knows
وَأَنتُمْ while you wa-antum
while you
لَا (do) not
(do) not
تَعْلَمُونَ know taʿlamūna
know
١٩ (19)
(19)
Indeed, those who like that immorality should be spread [or publicized] among those who have believed will have a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. And Allāh knows and you do not know.
24:20
وَلَوْلَا And if not walawlā
And if not
فَضْلُ (for the) Grace of Allah faḍlu
(for the) Grace of Allah
ٱللَّهِ (for the) Grace of Allah l-lahi
(for the) Grace of Allah
عَلَيْكُمْ upon you ʿalaykum
upon you
وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ and His Mercy waraḥmatuhu
and His Mercy
وَأَنَّ And that wa-anna
And that
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
رَءُوفٌۭ (is) Full of Kindness raūfun
(is) Full of Kindness
رَّحِيمٌۭ Most Merciful raḥīmun
Most Merciful
٢٠ (20)
(20)
And if it had not been for the favor of Allāh upon you and His mercy... and because Allāh is Kind and Merciful.
24:21
۞ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you who believe yāayyuhā
O you who believe
ٱلَّذِينَ O you who believe alladhīna
O you who believe
ءَامَنُوا۟ O you who believe āmanū
O you who believe
لَا (Do) not
(Do) not
تَتَّبِعُوا۟ follow tattabiʿū
follow
خُطُوَٰتِ (the) footsteps khuṭuwāti
(the) footsteps
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ۚ (of) the Shaitaan l-shayṭāni
(of) the Shaitaan
وَمَن and whoever waman
and whoever
يَتَّبِعْ follows yattabiʿ
follows
خُطُوَٰتِ (the) footsteps khuṭuwāti
(the) footsteps
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ (of) the Shaitaan l-shayṭāni
(of) the Shaitaan
فَإِنَّهُۥ then indeed, he fa-innahu
then indeed, he
يَأْمُرُ commands yamuru
commands
بِٱلْفَحْشَآءِ the immorality bil-faḥshāi
the immorality
وَٱلْمُنكَرِ ۚ and the evil wal-munkari
and the evil
وَلَوْلَا And if not walawlā
And if not
فَضْلُ (for the) Grace of Allah faḍlu
(for the) Grace of Allah
ٱللَّهِ (for the) Grace of Allah l-lahi
(for the) Grace of Allah
عَلَيْكُمْ upon you ʿalaykum
upon you
وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ and His Mercy waraḥmatuhu
and His Mercy
مَا not
not
زَكَىٰ (would) have been pure zakā
(would) have been pure
مِنكُم among you minkum
among you
مِّنْ anyone min
anyone
أَحَدٍ anyone aḥadin
anyone
أَبَدًۭا ever abadan
ever
وَلَـٰكِنَّ but walākinna
but
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
يُزَكِّى purifies yuzakkī
purifies
مَن whom man
whom
يَشَآءُ ۗ He wills yashāu
He wills
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
سَمِيعٌ (is) All-Hearer samīʿun
(is) All-Hearer
عَلِيمٌۭ All-Knower ʿalīmun
All-Knower
٢١ (21)
(21)
O you who have believed, do not follow the footsteps of Satan. And whoever follows the footsteps of Satan - indeed, he enjoins immorality and wrongdoing. And if not for the favor of Allāh upon you and His mercy, not one of you would have been pure, ever, but Allāh purifies whom He wills, and Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.
24:22
وَلَا And not walā
And not
يَأْتَلِ let swear yatali
let swear
أُو۟لُوا۟ those of virtue ulū
those of virtue
ٱلْفَضْلِ those of virtue l-faḍli
those of virtue
مِنكُمْ among you minkum
among you
وَٱلسَّعَةِ and the amplitude of means wal-saʿati
and the amplitude of means
أَن that an
that
يُؤْتُوٓا۟ they give yu'tū
they give
أُو۟لِى (to) the near of kin ulī
(to) the near of kin
ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ (to) the near of kin l-qur'bā
(to) the near of kin
وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينَ and the needy wal-masākīna
and the needy
وَٱلْمُهَـٰجِرِينَ and the emigrants wal-muhājirīna
and the emigrants
فِى in
in
سَبِيلِ (the) way sabīli
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ ۖ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
وَلْيَعْفُوا۟ And let them pardon walyaʿfū
And let them pardon
وَلْيَصْفَحُوٓا۟ ۗ and let them overlook walyaṣfaḥū
and let them overlook
أَلَا (Do) not alā
(Do) not
تُحِبُّونَ you like tuḥibbūna
you like
أَن that an
that
يَغْفِرَ Allah should forgive yaghfira
Allah should forgive
ٱللَّهُ Allah should forgive l-lahu
Allah should forgive
لَكُمْ ۗ you lakum
you
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
غَفُورٌۭ (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun
(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌ Most Merciful raḥīmun
Most Merciful
٢٢ (22)
(22)
And let not those of virtue among you and wealth swear not to give [aid] to their relatives and the needy and the emigrants for the cause of Allāh, and let them pardon and overlook. Would you not like that Allāh should forgive you? And Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
24:23
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
يَرْمُونَ accuse yarmūna
accuse
ٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتِ the chaste women l-muḥ'ṣanāti
the chaste women
ٱلْغَـٰفِلَـٰتِ the unaware women l-ghāfilāti
the unaware women
ٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ (and) the believing women l-mu'mināti
(and) the believing women
لُعِنُوا۟ are cursed luʿinū
are cursed
فِى in
in
ٱلدُّنْيَا the world l-dun'yā
the world
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ and the Hereafter wal-ākhirati
and the Hereafter
وَلَهُمْ And for them walahum
And for them
عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
عَظِيمٌۭ great ʿaẓīmun
great
٢٣ (23)
(23)
Indeed, those who [falsely] accuse chaste, unaware and believing women are cursed in this world and the Hereafter; and they will have a great punishment
24:24
يَوْمَ (On a) Day yawma
(On a) Day
تَشْهَدُ will bear witness tashhadu
will bear witness
عَلَيْهِمْ against them ʿalayhim
against them
أَلْسِنَتُهُمْ their tongues alsinatuhum
their tongues
وَأَيْدِيهِمْ and their hands wa-aydīhim
and their hands
وَأَرْجُلُهُم and their feet wa-arjuluhum
and their feet
بِمَا for what bimā
for what
كَانُوا۟ they used kānū
they used
يَعْمَلُونَ (to) do yaʿmalūna
(to) do
٢٤ (24)
(24)
On a Day when their tongues, their hands and their feet will bear witness against them as to what they used to do.
24:25
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ That Day yawma-idhin
That Day
يُوَفِّيهِمُ Allah will pay them in full yuwaffīhimu
Allah will pay them in full
ٱللَّهُ Allah will pay them in full l-lahu
Allah will pay them in full
دِينَهُمُ their recompense dīnahumu
their recompense
ٱلْحَقَّ the due l-ḥaqa
the due
وَيَعْلَمُونَ and they will know wayaʿlamūna
and they will know
أَنَّ that anna
that
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
هُوَ He huwa
He
ٱلْحَقُّ (is) the Truth l-ḥaqu
(is) the Truth
ٱلْمُبِينُ the Manifest l-mubīnu
the Manifest
٢٥ (25)
(25)
That Day, Allāh will pay them in full their true [i.e., deserved] recompense, and they will know that it is Allāh who is the manifest Truth [i.e., perfect in justice].
24:26
ٱلْخَبِيثَـٰتُ Evil women al-khabīthātu
Evil women
لِلْخَبِيثِينَ (are) for evil men lil'khabīthīna
(are) for evil men
وَٱلْخَبِيثُونَ and evil men wal-khabīthūna
and evil men
لِلْخَبِيثَـٰتِ ۖ (are) for evil women lil'khabīthāti
(are) for evil women
وَٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتُ And good women wal-ṭayibātu
And good women
لِلطَّيِّبِينَ (are) for good men lilṭṭayyibīna
(are) for good men
وَٱلطَّيِّبُونَ and good men wal-ṭayibūna
and good men
لِلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ ۚ (are) for good women lilṭṭayyibāti
(are) for good women
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
مُبَرَّءُونَ (are) innocent mubarraūna
(are) innocent
مِمَّا of what mimmā
of what
يَقُولُونَ ۖ they say yaqūlūna
they say
لَهُم For them lahum
For them
مَّغْفِرَةٌۭ (is) forgiveness maghfiratun
(is) forgiveness
وَرِزْقٌۭ and a provision wariz'qun
and a provision
كَرِيمٌۭ noble karīmun
noble
٢٦ (26)
(26)
Evil words are for evil men, and evil men are [subjected] to evil words. And good words are for good men, and good men are [an object] of good words. Those [good people] are declared innocent of what they [i.e., slanderers] say. For them is forgiveness and noble provision.
24:27
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ who alladhīna
who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
لَا (Do) not
(Do) not
تَدْخُلُوا۟ enter tadkhulū
enter
بُيُوتًا houses buyūtan
houses
غَيْرَ other (than) ghayra
other (than)
بُيُوتِكُمْ your houses buyūtikum
your houses
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
تَسْتَأْنِسُوا۟ you have asked permission tastanisū
you have asked permission
وَتُسَلِّمُوا۟ and you have greeted watusallimū
and you have greeted
عَلَىٰٓ [on] ʿalā
[on]
أَهْلِهَا ۚ its inhabitants ahlihā
its inhabitants
ذَٰلِكُمْ That dhālikum
That
خَيْرٌۭ (is) best khayrun
(is) best
لَّكُمْ for you lakum
for you
لَعَلَّكُمْ so that you may laʿallakum
so that you may
تَذَكَّرُونَ pay heed tadhakkarūna
pay heed
٢٧ (27)
(27)
O you who have believed, do not enter houses other than your own houses until you ascertain welcome and greet their inhabitants. That is best for you; perhaps you will be reminded [i.e., advised].
24:28
فَإِن But if fa-in
But if
لَّمْ not lam
not
تَجِدُوا۟ you find tajidū
you find
فِيهَآ in it fīhā
in it
أَحَدًۭا anyone aḥadan
anyone
فَلَا then (do) not falā
then (do) not
تَدْخُلُوهَا enter it tadkhulūhā
enter it
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
يُؤْذَنَ permission has been given yu'dhana
permission has been given
لَكُمْ ۖ to you lakum
to you
وَإِن And if wa-in
And if
قِيلَ it is said qīla
it is said
لَكُمُ to you lakumu
to you
ٱرْجِعُوا۟ Go back ir'jiʿū
Go back
فَٱرْجِعُوا۟ ۖ then go back fa-ir'jiʿū
then go back
هُوَ it huwa
it
أَزْكَىٰ (is) purer azkā
(is) purer
لَكُمْ ۚ for you lakum
for you
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
بِمَا of what bimā
of what
تَعْمَلُونَ you do taʿmalūna
you do
عَلِيمٌۭ (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knower
٢٨ (28)
(28)
And if you do not find anyone therein, do not enter them until permission has been given you. And if it is said to you, "Go back,"1 then go back; it is purer for you. And Allāh is Knowing of what you do.
24:29
لَّيْسَ Not laysa
Not
عَلَيْكُمْ upon you ʿalaykum
upon you
جُنَاحٌ (is) any blame junāḥun
(is) any blame
أَن that an
that
تَدْخُلُوا۟ you enter tadkhulū
you enter
بُيُوتًا houses buyūtan
houses
غَيْرَ not ghayra
not
مَسْكُونَةٍۢ inhabited maskūnatin
inhabited
فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it
مَتَـٰعٌۭ (is) a provision matāʿun
(is) a provision
لَّكُمْ ۚ for you lakum
for you
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
يَعْلَمُ knows yaʿlamu
knows
مَا what
what
تُبْدُونَ you reveal tub'dūna
you reveal
وَمَا and what wamā
and what
تَكْتُمُونَ you conceal taktumūna
you conceal
٢٩ (29)
(29)
There is no blame upon you for entering houses not inhabited in which there is convenience for you. And Allāh knows what you reveal and what you conceal.
24:30
قُل Say qul
Say
لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ to the believing men lil'mu'minīna
to the believing men
يَغُضُّوا۟ they should lower yaghuḍḍū
they should lower
مِنْ their gaze min
their gaze
أَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ their gaze abṣārihim
their gaze
وَيَحْفَظُوا۟ and they should guard wayaḥfaẓū
and they should guard
فُرُوجَهُمْ ۚ their chastity furūjahum
their chastity
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
أَزْكَىٰ (is) purer azkā
(is) purer
لَهُمْ ۗ for them lahum
for them
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
خَبِيرٌۢ (is) All-Aware khabīrun
(is) All-Aware
بِمَا of what bimā
of what
يَصْنَعُونَ they do yaṣnaʿūna
they do
٣٠ (30)
(30)
Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allāh is [fully] Aware of what they do.
24:31
وَقُل And say waqul
And say
لِّلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ to the believing women lil'mu'mināti
to the believing women
يَغْضُضْنَ (that) they should lower yaghḍuḍ'na
(that) they should lower
مِنْ [of] min
[of]
أَبْصَـٰرِهِنَّ their gaze abṣārihinna
their gaze
وَيَحْفَظْنَ and they should guard wayaḥfaẓna
and they should guard
فُرُوجَهُنَّ their chastity furūjahunna
their chastity
وَلَا and not walā
and not
يُبْدِينَ (to) display yub'dīna
(to) display
زِينَتَهُنَّ their adornment zīnatahunna
their adornment
إِلَّا except illā
except
مَا what
what
ظَهَرَ is apparent ẓahara
is apparent
مِنْهَا ۖ of it min'hā
of it
وَلْيَضْرِبْنَ And let them draw walyaḍrib'na
And let them draw
بِخُمُرِهِنَّ their head covers bikhumurihinna
their head covers
عَلَىٰ over ʿalā
over
جُيُوبِهِنَّ ۖ their bosoms juyūbihinna
their bosoms
وَلَا and not walā
and not
يُبْدِينَ (to) display yub'dīna
(to) display
زِينَتَهُنَّ their adornment zīnatahunna
their adornment
إِلَّا except illā
except
لِبُعُولَتِهِنَّ to their husbands libuʿūlatihinna
to their husbands
أَوْ or aw
or
ءَابَآئِهِنَّ their fathers ābāihinna
their fathers
أَوْ or aw
or
ءَابَآءِ fathers ābāi
fathers
بُعُولَتِهِنَّ (of) their husbands buʿūlatihinna
(of) their husbands
أَوْ or aw
or
أَبْنَآئِهِنَّ their sons abnāihinna
their sons
أَوْ or aw
or
أَبْنَآءِ sons abnāi
sons
بُعُولَتِهِنَّ (of) their husbands buʿūlatihinna
(of) their husbands
أَوْ or aw
or
إِخْوَٰنِهِنَّ their brothers ikh'wānihinna
their brothers
أَوْ or aw
or
بَنِىٓ sons banī
sons
إِخْوَٰنِهِنَّ (of) their brothers ikh'wānihinna
(of) their brothers
أَوْ or aw
or
بَنِىٓ sons banī
sons
أَخَوَٰتِهِنَّ (of) their sisters akhawātihinna
(of) their sisters
أَوْ or aw
or
نِسَآئِهِنَّ their women nisāihinna
their women
أَوْ or aw
or
مَا what
what
مَلَكَتْ possess malakat
possess
أَيْمَـٰنُهُنَّ their right hands aymānuhunna
their right hands
أَوِ or awi
or
ٱلتَّـٰبِعِينَ the attendants l-tābiʿīna
the attendants
غَيْرِ having no physical desire ghayri
having no physical desire
أُو۟لِى having no physical desire ulī
having no physical desire
ٱلْإِرْبَةِ having no physical desire l-ir'bati
having no physical desire
مِنَ among mina
among
ٱلرِّجَالِ [the] men l-rijāli
[the] men
أَوِ or awi
or
ٱلطِّفْلِ [the] children l-ṭif'li
[the] children
ٱلَّذِينَ who alladhīna
who
لَمْ (are) not lam
(are) not
يَظْهَرُوا۟ aware yaẓharū
aware
عَلَىٰ of ʿalā
of
عَوْرَٰتِ private aspects ʿawrāti
private aspects
ٱلنِّسَآءِ ۖ (of) the women l-nisāi
(of) the women
وَلَا And not walā
And not
يَضْرِبْنَ let them stamp yaḍrib'na
let them stamp
بِأَرْجُلِهِنَّ their feet bi-arjulihinna
their feet
لِيُعْلَمَ to make known liyuʿ'lama
to make known
مَا what
what
يُخْفِينَ they conceal yukh'fīna
they conceal
مِن of min
of
زِينَتِهِنَّ ۚ their adornment zīnatihinna
their adornment
وَتُوبُوٓا۟ And turn watūbū
And turn
إِلَى to ilā
to
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
جَمِيعًا altogether jamīʿan
altogether
أَيُّهَ O believers ayyuha
O believers
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ O believers l-mu'minūna
O believers
لَعَلَّكُمْ So that you may laʿallakum
So that you may
تُفْلِحُونَ succeed tuf'liḥūna
succeed
٣١ (31)
(31)
And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment [i.e., beauty] except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their women, that which their right hands possess [i.e., slaves], or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allāh in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.
24:32
وَأَنكِحُوا۟ And marry wa-ankiḥū
And marry
ٱلْأَيَـٰمَىٰ the single l-ayāmā
the single
مِنكُمْ among you minkum
among you
وَٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ and the righteous wal-ṣāliḥīna
and the righteous
مِنْ among min
among
عِبَادِكُمْ your male slaves ʿibādikum
your male slaves
وَإِمَآئِكُمْ ۚ and your female slaves wa-imāikum
and your female slaves
إِن If in
If
يَكُونُوا۟ they are yakūnū
they are
فُقَرَآءَ poor fuqarāa
poor
يُغْنِهِمُ Allah will enrich them yugh'nihimu
Allah will enrich them
ٱللَّهُ Allah will enrich them l-lahu
Allah will enrich them
مِن from min
from
فَضْلِهِۦ ۗ His Bounty faḍlihi
His Bounty
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
وَٰسِعٌ (is) All-Encompassing wāsiʿun
(is) All-Encompassing
عَلِيمٌۭ All-Knowing ʿalīmun
All-Knowing
٣٢ (32)
(32)
And marry the unmarried among you and the righteous among your male slaves and female slaves. If they should be poor, Allāh will enrich them from His bounty, and Allāh is all-Encompassing and Knowing.
24:33
وَلْيَسْتَعْفِفِ And let be chaste walyastaʿfifi
And let be chaste
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يَجِدُونَ find yajidūna
find
نِكَاحًا (means for) marriage nikāḥan
(means for) marriage
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
يُغْنِيَهُمُ Allah enriches them yugh'niyahumu
Allah enriches them
ٱللَّهُ Allah enriches them l-lahu
Allah enriches them
مِن from min
from
فَضْلِهِۦ ۗ His Bounty faḍlihi
His Bounty
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
يَبْتَغُونَ seek yabtaghūna
seek
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the writing l-kitāba
the writing
مِمَّا from (those) whom mimmā
from (those) whom
مَلَكَتْ possess malakat
possess
أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْ your right hands aymānukum
your right hands
فَكَاتِبُوهُمْ then give them (the) writing fakātibūhum
then give them (the) writing
إِنْ if in
if
عَلِمْتُمْ you know ʿalim'tum
you know
فِيهِمْ in them fīhim
in them
خَيْرًۭا ۖ any good khayran
any good
وَءَاتُوهُم and give them waātūhum
and give them
مِّن from min
from
مَّالِ the wealth of Allah māli
the wealth of Allah
ٱللَّهِ the wealth of Allah l-lahi
the wealth of Allah
ٱلَّذِىٓ which alladhī
which
ءَاتَىٰكُمْ ۚ He has given you ātākum
He has given you
وَلَا And (do) not walā
And (do) not
تُكْرِهُوا۟ compel tuk'rihū
compel
فَتَيَـٰتِكُمْ your slave girls fatayātikum
your slave girls
عَلَى to ʿalā
to
ٱلْبِغَآءِ [the] prostitution l-bighāi
[the] prostitution
إِنْ if in
if
أَرَدْنَ they desire aradna
they desire
تَحَصُّنًۭا chastity taḥaṣṣunan
chastity
لِّتَبْتَغُوا۟ that you may seek litabtaghū
that you may seek
عَرَضَ temporary gain ʿaraḍa
temporary gain
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ (of) the life l-ḥayati
(of) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ (of) the world l-dun'yā
(of) the world
وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever
يُكْرِههُّنَّ compels them yuk'rihhunna
compels them
فَإِنَّ then indeed fa-inna
then indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
مِنۢ after min
after
بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after
إِكْرَٰهِهِنَّ their compulsion ik'rāhihinna
their compulsion
غَفُورٌۭ (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun
(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭ Most Merciful raḥīmun
Most Merciful
٣٣ (33)
(33)
But let them who find not [the means for] marriage abstain [from sexual relations] until Allāh enriches them from His bounty. And those who seek a contract [for eventual emancipation] from among whom your right hands possess - then make a contract with them if you know there is within them goodness and give them from the wealth of Allāh which He has given you. And do not compel your slave girls to prostitution, if they desire chastity, to seek [thereby] the temporary interests of worldly life. And if someone should compel them, then indeed, Allāh is [to them], after their compulsion, Forgiving and Merciful.
24:34
وَلَقَدْ And verily walaqad
And verily
أَنزَلْنَآ We have sent down anzalnā
We have sent down
إِلَيْكُمْ to you ilaykum
to you
ءَايَـٰتٍۢ Verses āyātin
Verses
مُّبَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ clear mubayyinātin
clear
وَمَثَلًۭا and an example wamathalan
and an example
مِّنَ of mina
of
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
خَلَوْا۟ passed away khalaw
passed away
مِن before you min
before you
قَبْلِكُمْ before you qablikum
before you
وَمَوْعِظَةًۭ and an admonition wamawʿiẓatan
and an admonition
لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ for those who fear (Allah) lil'muttaqīna
for those who fear (Allah)
٣٤ (34)
(34)
And We have certainly sent down to you distinct verses and examples from those who passed on before you and an admonition for those who fear Allāh.
24:35
۞ ٱللَّهُ Allah al-lahu
Allah
نُورُ (is the) Light nūru
(is the) Light
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
مَثَلُ (The) example mathalu
(The) example
نُورِهِۦ (of) His Light nūrihi
(of) His Light
كَمِشْكَوٰةٍۢ (is) like a niche kamish'katin
(is) like a niche
فِيهَا in it fīhā
in it
مِصْبَاحٌ ۖ (is) a lamp miṣ'bāḥun
(is) a lamp
ٱلْمِصْبَاحُ the lamp l-miṣ'bāḥu
the lamp
فِى (is) in
(is) in
زُجَاجَةٍ ۖ a glass zujājatin
a glass
ٱلزُّجَاجَةُ the glass l-zujājatu
the glass
كَأَنَّهَا as if it were ka-annahā
as if it were
كَوْكَبٌۭ a star kawkabun
a star
دُرِّىٌّۭ brilliant durriyyun
brilliant
يُوقَدُ (which) is lit yūqadu
(which) is lit
مِن from min
from
شَجَرَةٍۢ a tree shajaratin
a tree
مُّبَـٰرَكَةٍۢ blessed mubārakatin
blessed
زَيْتُونَةٍۢ an olive zaytūnatin
an olive
لَّا not
not
شَرْقِيَّةٍۢ (of the) east sharqiyyatin
(of the) east
وَلَا and not walā
and not
غَرْبِيَّةٍۢ (of the) west gharbiyyatin
(of the) west
يَكَادُ would almost yakādu
would almost
زَيْتُهَا its oil zaytuhā
its oil
يُضِىٓءُ glow yuḍīu
glow
وَلَوْ even if walaw
even if
لَمْ not lam
not
تَمْسَسْهُ touched it tamsashu
touched it
نَارٌۭ ۚ fire nārun
fire
نُّورٌ Light nūrun
Light
عَلَىٰ upon ʿalā
upon
نُورٍۢ ۗ Light nūrin
Light
يَهْدِى Allah guides yahdī
Allah guides
ٱللَّهُ Allah guides l-lahu
Allah guides
لِنُورِهِۦ to His Light linūrihi
to His Light
مَن whom man
whom
يَشَآءُ ۚ He wills yashāu
He wills
وَيَضْرِبُ And Allah sets forth wayaḍribu
And Allah sets forth
ٱللَّهُ And Allah sets forth l-lahu
And Allah sets forth
ٱلْأَمْثَـٰلَ the examples l-amthāla
the examples
لِلنَّاسِ ۗ for the mankind lilnnāsi
for the mankind
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
بِكُلِّ of every bikulli
of every
شَىْءٍ thing shayin
thing
عَلِيمٌۭ (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knower
٣٥ (35)
(35)
Allāh is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp; the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allāh guides to His light whom He wills. And Allāh presents examples for the people, and Allāh is Knowing of all things.
24:36
فِى In

أَذِنَ (which) Allah ordered adhina
(which) Allah ordered
ٱللَّهُ (which) Allah ordered l-lahu
(which) Allah ordered
أَن that an
that
تُرْفَعَ they be raised tur'faʿa
they be raised
وَيُذْكَرَ and be mentioned wayudh'kara
and be mentioned
فِيهَا in them fīhā
in them
ٱسْمُهُۥ His name us'muhu
His name
يُسَبِّحُ Glorify yusabbiḥu
Glorify
لَهُۥ [to] Him lahu
[to] Him
فِيهَا in them fīhā
in them
بِٱلْغُدُوِّ in the mornings bil-ghuduwi
in the mornings
وَٱلْـَٔاصَالِ and (in) the evenings wal-āṣāli
and (in) the evenings
٣٦ (36)
(36)
[Such niches are] in houses [i.e., mosques] which Allāh has ordered to be raised and that His name be mentioned [i.e., praised] therein; exalting Him within them in the morning and the evenings
24:37
رِجَالٌۭ Men rijālun
Men
لَّا not
not
تُلْهِيهِمْ distracts them tul'hīhim
distracts them
تِجَـٰرَةٌۭ trade tijāratun
trade
وَلَا and not walā
and not
بَيْعٌ sale bayʿun
sale
عَن from ʿan
from
ذِكْرِ (the) remembrance of Allah dhik'ri
(the) remembrance of Allah
ٱللَّهِ (the) remembrance of Allah l-lahi
(the) remembrance of Allah
وَإِقَامِ and (from) establishing wa-iqāmi
and (from) establishing
ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ the prayer l-ṣalati
the prayer
وَإِيتَآءِ and giving waītāi
and giving
ٱلزَّكَوٰةِ ۙ zakah l-zakati
zakah
يَخَافُونَ They fear yakhāfūna
They fear
يَوْمًۭا a Day yawman
a Day
تَتَقَلَّبُ will turn about tataqallabu
will turn about
فِيهِ therein fīhi
therein
ٱلْقُلُوبُ the hearts l-qulūbu
the hearts
وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ and the eyes wal-abṣāru
and the eyes
٣٧ (37)
(37)
[Are] men whom neither commerce nor sale distracts from the remembrance of Allāh and performance of prayer and giving of zakāh. They fear a Day in which the hearts and eyes will [fearfully] turn about -
24:38
لِيَجْزِيَهُمُ That Allah may reward them liyajziyahumu
That Allah may reward them
ٱللَّهُ That Allah may reward them l-lahu
That Allah may reward them
أَحْسَنَ (with the) best aḥsana
(with the) best
مَا (of) what
(of) what
عَمِلُوا۟ they did ʿamilū
they did
وَيَزِيدَهُم and increase them wayazīdahum
and increase them
مِّن from min
from
فَضْلِهِۦ ۗ His Bounty faḍlihi
His Bounty
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
يَرْزُقُ provides yarzuqu
provides
مَن whom man
whom
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
بِغَيْرِ without bighayri
without
حِسَابٍۢ measure ḥisābin
measure
٣٨ (38)
(38)
That Allāh may reward them [according to] the best of what they did and increase them from His bounty. And Allāh gives provision to whom He wills without account [i.e., limit].
24:39
وَٱلَّذِينَ But those who wa-alladhīna
But those who
كَفَرُوٓا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ their deeds aʿmāluhum
their deeds
كَسَرَابٍۭ (are) like a mirage kasarābin
(are) like a mirage
بِقِيعَةٍۢ in a lowland biqīʿatin
in a lowland
يَحْسَبُهُ thinks it yaḥsabuhu
thinks it
ٱلظَّمْـَٔانُ the thirsty one l-ẓamānu
the thirsty one
مَآءً (to be) water māan
(to be) water
حَتَّىٰٓ until ḥattā
until
إِذَا when idhā
when
جَآءَهُۥ he comes to it jāahu
he comes to it
لَمْ not lam
not
يَجِدْهُ he finds it yajid'hu
he finds it
شَيْـًۭٔا (to be) anything shayan
(to be) anything
وَوَجَدَ but he finds wawajada
but he finds
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
عِندَهُۥ before him ʿindahu
before him
فَوَفَّىٰهُ He will pay him in full fawaffāhu
He will pay him in full
حِسَابَهُۥ ۗ his due ḥisābahu
his due
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
سَرِيعُ (is) swift sarīʿu
(is) swift
ٱلْحِسَابِ (in) the account l-ḥisābi
(in) the account
٣٩ (39)
(39)
But those who disbelieved - their deeds are like a mirage in a lowland which a thirsty one thinks is water until, when he comes to it, he finds it is nothing but finds Allāh before him, and He will pay him in full his due; and Allāh is swift in account.
24:40
أَوْ Or aw
Or
كَظُلُمَـٰتٍۢ (is) like (the) darkness[es] kaẓulumātin
(is) like (the) darkness[es]
فِى in
in
بَحْرٍۢ a sea baḥrin
a sea
لُّجِّىٍّۢ deep lujjiyyin
deep
يَغْشَىٰهُ covers it yaghshāhu
covers it
مَوْجٌۭ a wave mawjun
a wave
مِّن on it min
on it
فَوْقِهِۦ on it fawqihi
on it
مَوْجٌۭ a wave mawjun
a wave
مِّن on it min
on it
فَوْقِهِۦ on it fawqihi
on it
سَحَابٌۭ ۚ a cloud saḥābun
a cloud
ظُلُمَـٰتٌۢ darkness[es] ẓulumātun
darkness[es]
بَعْضُهَا some of it baʿḍuhā
some of it
فَوْقَ on fawqa
on
بَعْضٍ others baʿḍin
others
إِذَآ When idhā
When
أَخْرَجَ he puts out akhraja
he puts out
يَدَهُۥ his hand yadahu
his hand
لَمْ hardly lam
hardly
يَكَدْ hardly yakad
hardly
يَرَىٰهَا ۗ he (can) see it yarāhā
he (can) see it
وَمَن And (for) whom waman
And (for) whom
لَّمْ not lam
not
يَجْعَلِ Allah (has) made yajʿali
Allah (has) made
ٱللَّهُ Allah (has) made l-lahu
Allah (has) made
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
نُورًۭا a light nūran
a light
فَمَا then not famā
then not
لَهُۥ for him lahu
for him
مِن (is) any min
(is) any
نُّورٍ light nūrin
light
٤٠ (40)
(40)
Or [they are] like darknesses within an unfathomable sea which is covered by waves, upon which are waves, over which are clouds - darknesses, some of them upon others. When one puts out his hand [therein], he can hardly see it. And he to whom Allāh has not granted light - for him there is no light.
24:41
أَلَمْ Do not alam
Do not
تَرَ you see tara
you see
أَنَّ that anna
that
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
يُسَبِّحُ glorify yusabbiḥu
glorify
لَهُۥ Him lahu
Him
مَن whoever man
whoever
فِى (is) in
(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
وَٱلطَّيْرُ and the birds wal-ṭayru
and the birds
صَـٰٓفَّـٰتٍۢ ۖ (with) wings outspread ṣāffātin
(with) wings outspread
كُلٌّۭ Each one kullun
Each one
قَدْ verily qad
verily
عَلِمَ knows ʿalima
knows
صَلَاتَهُۥ its prayer ṣalātahu
its prayer
وَتَسْبِيحَهُۥ ۗ and its glorification watasbīḥahu
and its glorification
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
عَلِيمٌۢ (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knower
بِمَا of what bimā
of what
يَفْعَلُونَ they do yafʿalūna
they do
٤١ (41)
(41)
Do you not see that Allāh is exalted by whomever is within the heavens and the earth and [by] the birds with wings spread [in flight]? Each [of them] has known his [means of] prayer and exalting [Him], and Allāh is Knowing of what they do.
24:42
وَلِلَّهِ And to Allah (belongs) walillahi
And to Allah (belongs)
مُلْكُ (the) dominion mul'ku
(the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
وَإِلَى And to wa-ilā
And to
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
ٱلْمَصِيرُ (is) the destination l-maṣīru
(is) the destination
٤٢ (42)
(42)
And to Allāh belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and to Allāh is the destination.
24:43
أَلَمْ Do not alam
Do not
تَرَ you see tara
you see
أَنَّ that anna
that
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
يُزْجِى drives yuz'jī
drives
سَحَابًۭا clouds saḥāban
clouds
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
يُؤَلِّفُ joins yu-allifu
joins
بَيْنَهُۥ between them baynahu
between them
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
يَجْعَلُهُۥ makes them yajʿaluhu
makes them
رُكَامًۭا (into) a mass rukāman
(into) a mass
فَتَرَى then you see fatarā
then you see
ٱلْوَدْقَ the rain l-wadqa
the rain
يَخْرُجُ come forth yakhruju
come forth
مِنْ from min
from
خِلَـٰلِهِۦ their midst khilālihi
their midst
وَيُنَزِّلُ And He sends down wayunazzilu
And He sends down
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلسَّمَآءِ (the) sky l-samāi
(the) sky
مِن [from] min
[from]
جِبَالٍۢ mountains jibālin
mountains
فِيهَا within it fīhā
within it
مِنۢ [of] min
[of]
بَرَدٍۢ (is) hail baradin
(is) hail
فَيُصِيبُ and He strikes fayuṣību
and He strikes
بِهِۦ with it bihi
with it
مَن whom man
whom
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
وَيَصْرِفُهُۥ and averts it wayaṣrifuhu
and averts it
عَن from ʿan
from
مَّن whom man
whom
يَشَآءُ ۖ He wills yashāu
He wills
يَكَادُ Nearly yakādu
Nearly
سَنَا (the) flash sanā
(the) flash
بَرْقِهِۦ (of) its lighting barqihi
(of) its lighting
يَذْهَبُ takes away yadhhabu
takes away
بِٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ the sight bil-abṣāri
the sight
٤٣ (43)
(43)
Do you not see that Allāh drives clouds? Then He brings them together; then He makes them into a mass, and you see the rain emerge from within it. And He sends down from the sky, mountains [of clouds] within which is hail, and He strikes with it whom He wills and averts it from whom He wills. The flash of its lightning almost takes away the eyesight.
24:44
يُقَلِّبُ Allah alternates yuqallibu
Allah alternates
ٱللَّهُ Allah alternates l-lahu
Allah alternates
ٱلَّيْلَ the night al-layla
the night
وَٱلنَّهَارَ ۚ and the day wal-nahāra
and the day
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
فِى in
in
ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that
لَعِبْرَةًۭ surely is a lesson laʿib'ratan
surely is a lesson
لِّأُو۟لِى for those who have vision li-ulī
for those who have vision
ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ for those who have vision l-abṣāri
for those who have vision
٤٤ (44)
(44)
Allāh alternates the night and the day. Indeed in that is a lesson for those who have vision.
24:45
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
خَلَقَ created khalaqa
created
كُلَّ every kulla
every
دَآبَّةٍۢ moving creature dābbatin
moving creature
مِّن from min
from
مَّآءٍۢ ۖ water māin
water
فَمِنْهُم Of them famin'hum
Of them
مَّن (is a kind) who man
(is a kind) who
يَمْشِى walks yamshī
walks
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
بَطْنِهِۦ its belly baṭnihi
its belly
وَمِنْهُم and of them wamin'hum
and of them
مَّن (is a kind) who man
(is a kind) who
يَمْشِى walks yamshī
walks
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
رِجْلَيْنِ two legs rij'layni
two legs
وَمِنْهُم and of them wamin'hum
and of them
مَّن (is a kind) who man
(is a kind) who
يَمْشِى walks yamshī
walks
عَلَىٰٓ on ʿalā
on
أَرْبَعٍۢ ۚ four arbaʿin
four
يَخْلُقُ Allah creates yakhluqu
Allah creates
ٱللَّهُ Allah creates l-lahu
Allah creates
مَا what
what
يَشَآءُ ۚ He wills yashāu
He wills
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
كُلِّ every kulli
every
شَىْءٍۢ thing shayin
thing
قَدِيرٌۭ (is) All-Powerful qadīrun
(is) All-Powerful
٤٥ (45)
(45)
Allāh has created every [living] creature from water. And of them are those that move on their bellies, and of them are those that walk on two legs, and of them are those that walk on four. Allāh creates what He wills. Indeed, Allāh is over all things competent.
24:46
لَّقَدْ Verily laqad
Verily
أَنزَلْنَآ We have sent down anzalnā
We have sent down
ءَايَـٰتٍۢ Verses āyātin
Verses
مُّبَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ ۚ clear mubayyinātin
clear
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
يَهْدِى guides yahdī
guides
مَن whom man
whom
يَشَآءُ He wills yashāu
He wills
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
صِرَٰطٍۢ a path ṣirāṭin
a path
مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ straight mus'taqīmin
straight
٤٦ (46)
(46)
We have certainly sent down distinct verses. And Allāh guides whom He wills to a straight path.
24:47
وَيَقُولُونَ And they say wayaqūlūna
And they say
ءَامَنَّا We believe āmannā
We believe
بِٱللَّهِ in Allah bil-lahi
in Allah
وَبِٱلرَّسُولِ and in the Messenger wabil-rasūli
and in the Messenger
وَأَطَعْنَا and we obey wa-aṭaʿnā
and we obey
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
يَتَوَلَّىٰ turns away yatawallā
turns away
فَرِيقٌۭ a party farīqun
a party
مِّنْهُم of them min'hum
of them
مِّنۢ after min
after
بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after
ذَٰلِكَ ۚ that dhālika
that
وَمَآ And not wamā
And not
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those ulāika
those
بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ (are) believers bil-mu'minīna
(are) believers
٤٧ (47)
(47)
But they [i.e., the hypocrites] say, "We have believed in Allāh and in the Messenger, and we obey"; then a party of them turns away after that. And those are not believers.
24:48
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when
دُعُوٓا۟ they are called duʿū
they are called
إِلَى to ilā
to
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
وَرَسُولِهِۦ and His Messenger warasūlihi
and His Messenger
لِيَحْكُمَ to judge liyaḥkuma
to judge
بَيْنَهُمْ between them baynahum
between them
إِذَا behold idhā
behold
فَرِيقٌۭ a party farīqun
a party
مِّنْهُم of them min'hum
of them
مُّعْرِضُونَ (is) averse muʿ'riḍūna
(is) averse
٤٨ (48)
(48)
And when they are called to [the words of] Allāh and His Messenger to judge between them, at once a party of them turns aside [in refusal].
24:49
وَإِن But if wa-in
But if
يَكُن is yakun
is
لَّهُمُ with them lahumu
with them
ٱلْحَقُّ the truth l-ḥaqu
the truth
يَأْتُوٓا۟ they come yatū
they come
إِلَيْهِ to him ilayhi
to him
مُذْعِنِينَ (as) promptly obedient mudh'ʿinīna
(as) promptly obedient
٤٩ (49)
(49)
But if the right is theirs, they come to him in prompt obedience.
24:50
أَفِى Is (there) in afī
Is (there) in
قُلُوبِهِم their hearts qulūbihim
their hearts
مَّرَضٌ a disease maraḍun
a disease
أَمِ or ami
or
ٱرْتَابُوٓا۟ do they doubt ir'tābū
do they doubt
أَمْ or am
or
يَخَافُونَ they fear yakhāfūna
they fear
أَن that an
that
يَحِيفَ Allah will be unjust yaḥīfa
Allah will be unjust
ٱللَّهُ Allah will be unjust l-lahu
Allah will be unjust
عَلَيْهِمْ to them ʿalayhim
to them
وَرَسُولُهُۥ ۚ and His Messenger warasūluhu
and His Messenger
بَلْ Nay bal
Nay
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those ulāika
those
هُمُ [they] humu
[they]
ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ (are) the wrongdoers l-ẓālimūna
(are) the wrongdoers
٥٠ (50)
(50)
Is there disease in their hearts? Or have they doubted? Or do they fear that Allāh will be unjust to them, or His Messenger? Rather, it is they who are the wrongdoers [i.e., the unjust].
24:51
إِنَّمَا Only innamā
Only
كَانَ is kāna
is
قَوْلَ (the) statement qawla
(the) statement
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ (of) the believers l-mu'minīna
(of) the believers
إِذَا when idhā
when
دُعُوٓا۟ they are called duʿū
they are called
إِلَى to ilā
to
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
وَرَسُولِهِۦ and His Messenger warasūlihi
and His Messenger
لِيَحْكُمَ to judge liyaḥkuma
to judge
بَيْنَهُمْ between them baynahum
between them
أَن (is) that an
(is) that
يَقُولُوا۟ they say yaqūlū
they say
سَمِعْنَا We hear samiʿ'nā
We hear
وَأَطَعْنَا ۚ and we obey wa-aṭaʿnā
and we obey
وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ And those wa-ulāika
And those
هُمُ [they] humu
[they]
ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ (are) the successful l-muf'liḥūna
(are) the successful
٥١ (51)
(51)
The only statement of the [true] believers when they are called to Allāh and His Messenger to judge between them is that they say, "We hear and we obey." And those are the successful.
24:52
وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever
يُطِعِ obeys yuṭiʿi
obeys
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
وَرَسُولَهُۥ and His Messenger warasūlahu
and His Messenger
وَيَخْشَ and fears wayakhsha
and fears
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
وَيَتَّقْهِ and (is) conscious of Him wayattaqhi
and (is) conscious of Him
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those fa-ulāika
then those
هُمُ [they] humu
[they]
ٱلْفَآئِزُونَ (are) the successful ones l-fāizūna
(are) the successful ones
٥٢ (52)
(52)
And whoever obeys Allāh and His Messenger and fears Allāh and is conscious of Him - it is those who are the attainers.
24:53
۞ وَأَقْسَمُوا۟ And they swear wa-aqsamū
And they swear
بِٱللَّهِ by Allah bil-lahi
by Allah
جَهْدَ strong jahda
strong
أَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ their oaths aymānihim
their oaths
لَئِنْ that if la-in
that if
أَمَرْتَهُمْ you ordered them amartahum
you ordered them
لَيَخْرُجُنَّ ۖ surely they (would) go forth layakhrujunna
surely they (would) go forth
قُل Say qul
Say
لَّا (Do) not
(Do) not
تُقْسِمُوا۟ ۖ swear tuq'simū
swear
طَاعَةٌۭ Obedience ṭāʿatun
Obedience
مَّعْرُوفَةٌ ۚ (is) known maʿrūfatun
(is) known
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
خَبِيرٌۢ (is) All-Aware khabīrun
(is) All-Aware
بِمَا of what bimā
of what
تَعْمَلُونَ you do taʿmalūna
you do
٥٣ (53)
(53)
And they swear by Allāh their strongest oaths that if you ordered them, they would go forth [in Allāh's cause]. Say, "Do not swear. [Such] obedience is known. Indeed, Allāh is [fully] Aware of that which you do."
24:54
قُلْ Say qul
Say
أَطِيعُوا۟ Obey aṭīʿū
Obey
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
وَأَطِيعُوا۟ and obey wa-aṭīʿū
and obey
ٱلرَّسُولَ ۖ the Messenger l-rasūla
the Messenger
فَإِن but if fa-in
but if
تَوَلَّوْا۟ you turn away tawallaw
you turn away
فَإِنَّمَا then only fa-innamā
then only
عَلَيْهِ upon him ʿalayhi
upon him
مَا (is) what
(is) what
حُمِّلَ (is) placed on him ḥummila
(is) placed on him
وَعَلَيْكُم and on you waʿalaykum
and on you
مَّا (is) what
(is) what
حُمِّلْتُمْ ۖ (is) placed on you ḥummil'tum
(is) placed on you
وَإِن And if wa-in
And if
تُطِيعُوهُ you obey him tuṭīʿūhu
you obey him
تَهْتَدُوا۟ ۚ you will be guided tahtadū
you will be guided
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
عَلَى (is) on ʿalā
(is) on
ٱلرَّسُولِ the Messenger l-rasūli
the Messenger
إِلَّا except illā
except
ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ the conveyance l-balāghu
the conveyance
ٱلْمُبِينُ [the] clear l-mubīnu
[the] clear
٥٤ (54)
(54)
Say, "Obey Allāh and obey the Messenger; but if you turn away - then upon him is only that [duty] with which he has been charged, and upon you is that with which you have been charged. And if you obey him, you will be [rightly] guided. And there is not upon the Messenger except the [responsibility for] clear notification."
24:55
وَعَدَ Allah (has) promised waʿada
Allah (has) promised
ٱللَّهُ Allah (has) promised l-lahu
Allah (has) promised
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
مِنكُمْ among you minkum
among you
وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
لَيَسْتَخْلِفَنَّهُمْ surely He will grant them succession layastakhlifannahum
surely He will grant them succession
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
كَمَا as kamā
as
ٱسْتَخْلَفَ He gave succession is'takhlafa
He gave succession
ٱلَّذِينَ to those who alladhīna
to those who
مِن (were) before them min
(were) before them
قَبْلِهِمْ (were) before them qablihim
(were) before them
وَلَيُمَكِّنَنَّ and that He will surely establish walayumakkinanna
and that He will surely establish
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
دِينَهُمُ their religion dīnahumu
their religion
ٱلَّذِى which alladhī
which
ٱرْتَضَىٰ He has approved ir'taḍā
He has approved
لَهُمْ for them lahum
for them
وَلَيُبَدِّلَنَّهُم and surely He will change for them walayubaddilannahum
and surely He will change for them
مِّنۢ after min
after
بَعْدِ after baʿdi
after
خَوْفِهِمْ their fear khawfihim
their fear
أَمْنًۭا ۚ security amnan
security
يَعْبُدُونَنِى (for) they worship Me yaʿbudūnanī
(for) they worship Me
لَا not
not
يُشْرِكُونَ they associate yush'rikūna
they associate
بِى with Me
with Me
شَيْـًۭٔا ۚ anything shayan
anything
وَمَن But whoever waman
But whoever
كَفَرَ disbelieved kafara
disbelieved
بَعْدَ after baʿda
after
ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those fa-ulāika
then those
هُمُ [they] humu
[they]
ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ (are) the defiantly disobedient l-fāsiqūna
(are) the defiantly disobedient
٥٥ (55)
(55)
Allāh has promised those who have believed among you and done righteous deeds that He will surely grant them succession [to authority] upon the earth just as He granted it to those before them and that He will surely establish for them [therein] their religion which He has preferred for them and that He will surely substitute for them, after their fear, security, [for] they worship Me, not associating anything with Me. But whoever disbelieves after that - then those are the defiantly disobedient.
24:56
وَأَقِيمُوا۟ And establish wa-aqīmū
And establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer l-ṣalata
the prayer
وَءَاتُوا۟ and give waātū
and give
ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ zakah l-zakata
zakah
وَأَطِيعُوا۟ and obey wa-aṭīʿū
and obey
ٱلرَّسُولَ the Messenger l-rasūla
the Messenger
لَعَلَّكُمْ so that you may laʿallakum
so that you may
تُرْحَمُونَ receive mercy tur'ḥamūna
receive mercy
٥٦ (56)
(56)
And establish prayer and give zakāh and obey the Messenger - that you may receive mercy.
24:57
لَا (Do) not
(Do) not
تَحْسَبَنَّ think taḥsabanna
think
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
مُعْجِزِينَ (can) escape muʿ'jizīna
(can) escape
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
وَمَأْوَىٰهُمُ And their abode wamawāhumu
And their abode
ٱلنَّارُ ۖ (will be) the Fire l-nāru
(will be) the Fire
وَلَبِئْسَ and wretched is walabi'sa
and wretched is
ٱلْمَصِيرُ the destination l-maṣīru
the destination
٥٧ (57)
(57)
Never think that the disbelievers are causing failure [to Allāh] upon the earth. Their refuge will be the Fire - and how wretched the destination.
24:58
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you who believe yāayyuhā
O you who believe
ٱلَّذِينَ O you who believe alladhīna
O you who believe
ءَامَنُوا۟ O you who believe āmanū
O you who believe
لِيَسْتَـْٔذِنكُمُ Let ask your permission liyastadhinkumu
Let ask your permission
ٱلَّذِينَ those whom alladhīna
those whom
مَلَكَتْ possess malakat
possess
أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْ your right hands aymānukum
your right hands
وَٱلَّذِينَ and those who wa-alladhīna
and those who
لَمْ (have) not lam
(have) not
يَبْلُغُوا۟ reached yablughū
reached
ٱلْحُلُمَ puberty l-ḥuluma
puberty
مِنكُمْ among you minkum
among you
ثَلَـٰثَ (at) three thalātha
(at) three
مَرَّٰتٍۢ ۚ times marrātin
times
مِّن before min
before
قَبْلِ before qabli
before
صَلَوٰةِ (the) prayer ṣalati
(the) prayer
ٱلْفَجْرِ (of) dawn l-fajri
(of) dawn
وَحِينَ and when waḥīna
and when
تَضَعُونَ you put aside taḍaʿūna
you put aside
ثِيَابَكُم your garments thiyābakum
your garments
مِّنَ at mina
at
ٱلظَّهِيرَةِ noon l-ẓahīrati
noon
وَمِنۢ and after wamin
and after
بَعْدِ and after baʿdi
and after
صَلَوٰةِ (the) prayer ṣalati
(the) prayer
ٱلْعِشَآءِ ۚ (of) night l-ʿishāi
(of) night
ثَلَـٰثُ (These) three thalāthu
(These) three
عَوْرَٰتٍۢ (are) times of privacy ʿawrātin
(are) times of privacy
لَّكُمْ ۚ for you lakum
for you
لَيْسَ Not laysa
Not
عَلَيْكُمْ on you ʿalaykum
on you
وَلَا and not walā
and not
عَلَيْهِمْ on them ʿalayhim
on them
جُنَاحٌۢ any blame junāḥun
any blame
بَعْدَهُنَّ ۚ after that baʿdahunna
after that
طَوَّٰفُونَ (as) moving about ṭawwāfūna
(as) moving about
عَلَيْكُم among you ʿalaykum
among you
بَعْضُكُمْ some of you baʿḍukum
some of you
عَلَىٰ among ʿalā
among
بَعْضٍۢ ۚ others baʿḍin
others
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika
Thus
يُبَيِّنُ Allah makes clear yubayyinu
Allah makes clear
ٱللَّهُ Allah makes clear l-lahu
Allah makes clear
لَكُمُ for you lakumu
for you
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ ۗ the Verses l-āyāti
the Verses
وَٱللَّهُ and Allah wal-lahu
and Allah
عَلِيمٌ (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knower
حَكِيمٌۭ All-Wise ḥakīmun
All-Wise
٥٨ (58)
(58)
O you who have believed, let those whom your right hands possess and those who have not [yet] reached puberty among you ask permission of you [before entering] at three times: before the dawn prayer and when you put aside your clothing [for rest] at noon and after the night prayer. [These are] three times of privacy for you. There is no blame upon you nor upon them beyond these [periods], for they continually circulate among you - some of you, among others. Thus does Allāh make clear to you the verses [i.e., His ordinances]; and Allāh is Knowing and Wise.
24:59
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when
بَلَغَ reach balagha
reach
ٱلْأَطْفَـٰلُ the children l-aṭfālu
the children
مِنكُمُ among you minkumu
among you
ٱلْحُلُمَ the puberty l-ḥuluma
the puberty
فَلْيَسْتَـْٔذِنُوا۟ then let them ask permission falyastadhinū
then let them ask permission
كَمَا as kamā
as
ٱسْتَـْٔذَنَ asked permission is'tadhana
asked permission
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
مِن (were) before them min
(were) before them
قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ (were) before them qablihim
(were) before them
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika
Thus
يُبَيِّنُ Allah makes clear yubayyinu
Allah makes clear
ٱللَّهُ Allah makes clear l-lahu
Allah makes clear
لَكُمْ for you lakum
for you
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ ۗ His Verses āyātihi
His Verses
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
عَلِيمٌ (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knower
حَكِيمٌۭ All-Wise ḥakīmun
All-Wise
٥٩ (59)
(59)
And when the children among you reach puberty, let them ask permission [at all times] as those before them have done. Thus does Allāh make clear to you His verses; and Allāh is Knowing and Wise.
24:60
وَٱلْقَوَٰعِدُ And postmenopausal wal-qawāʿidu
And postmenopausal
مِنَ among mina
among
ٱلنِّسَآءِ the women l-nisāi
the women
ٱلَّـٰتِى who allātī
who
لَا (do) not
(do) not
يَرْجُونَ have desire yarjūna
have desire
نِكَاحًۭا (for) marriage nikāḥan
(for) marriage
فَلَيْسَ then not is falaysa
then not is
عَلَيْهِنَّ on them ʿalayhinna
on them
جُنَاحٌ any blame junāḥun
any blame
أَن that an
that
يَضَعْنَ they put aside yaḍaʿna
they put aside
ثِيَابَهُنَّ their (outer) garments thiyābahunna
their (outer) garments
غَيْرَ not ghayra
not
مُتَبَرِّجَـٰتٍۭ displaying mutabarrijātin
displaying
بِزِينَةٍۢ ۖ their adornment bizīnatin
their adornment
وَأَن And that wa-an
And that
يَسْتَعْفِفْنَ they modestly refrain yastaʿfif'na
they modestly refrain
خَيْرٌۭ (is) better khayrun
(is) better
لَّهُنَّ ۗ for them lahunna
for them
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
سَمِيعٌ (is) All-Hearer samīʿun
(is) All-Hearer
عَلِيمٌۭ All-Knower ʿalīmun
All-Knower
٦٠ (60)
(60)
And women of post-menstrual age who have no desire for marriage - there is no blame upon them for putting aside their outer garments [but] not displaying adornment. But to modestly refrain [from that] is better for them. And Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.
24:61
لَّيْسَ Not is laysa

ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ the blind l-aʿmā
the blind
حَرَجٌۭ any blame ḥarajun
any blame
وَلَا and not walā
and not
عَلَى on ʿalā
on
ٱلْأَعْرَجِ the lame l-aʿraji
the lame
حَرَجٌۭ any blame ḥarajun
any blame
وَلَا and not walā
and not
عَلَى on ʿalā
on
ٱلْمَرِيضِ the sick l-marīḍi
the sick
حَرَجٌۭ any blame ḥarajun
any blame
وَلَا and not walā
and not
عَلَىٰٓ on ʿalā
on
أَنفُسِكُمْ yourselves anfusikum
yourselves
أَن that an
that
تَأْكُلُوا۟ you eat takulū
you eat
مِنۢ from min
from
بُيُوتِكُمْ your houses buyūtikum
your houses
أَوْ or aw
or
بُيُوتِ houses buyūti
houses
ءَابَآئِكُمْ (of) your fathers ābāikum
(of) your fathers
أَوْ or aw
or
بُيُوتِ houses buyūti
houses
أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ (of) your mothers ummahātikum
(of) your mothers
أَوْ or aw
or
بُيُوتِ houses buyūti
houses
إِخْوَٰنِكُمْ (of) your brothers ikh'wānikum
(of) your brothers
أَوْ or aw
or
بُيُوتِ houses buyūti
houses
أَخَوَٰتِكُمْ (of) your sisters akhawātikum
(of) your sisters
أَوْ or aw
or
بُيُوتِ houses buyūti
houses
أَعْمَـٰمِكُمْ (of) your paternal uncles aʿmāmikum
(of) your paternal uncles
أَوْ or aw
or
بُيُوتِ houses buyūti
houses
عَمَّـٰتِكُمْ (of) your paternal aunts ʿammātikum
(of) your paternal aunts
أَوْ or aw
or
بُيُوتِ houses buyūti
houses
أَخْوَٰلِكُمْ (of) your maternal uncles akhwālikum
(of) your maternal uncles
أَوْ or aw
or
بُيُوتِ houses buyūti
houses
خَـٰلَـٰتِكُمْ (of) your maternal aunts khālātikum
(of) your maternal aunts
أَوْ or aw
or
مَا what
what
مَلَكْتُم you possess malaktum
you possess
مَّفَاتِحَهُۥٓ its keys mafātiḥahu
its keys
أَوْ or aw
or
صَدِيقِكُمْ ۚ your friend ṣadīqikum
your friend
لَيْسَ Not is laysa
Not is
عَلَيْكُمْ on you ʿalaykum
on you
جُنَاحٌ any blame junāḥun
any blame
أَن that an
that
تَأْكُلُوا۟ you eat takulū
you eat
جَمِيعًا together jamīʿan
together
أَوْ or aw
or
أَشْتَاتًۭا ۚ separately ashtātan
separately
فَإِذَا But when fa-idhā
But when
دَخَلْتُم you enter dakhaltum
you enter
بُيُوتًۭا houses buyūtan
houses
فَسَلِّمُوا۟ then greet fasallimū
then greet
عَلَىٰٓ [on] ʿalā
[on]
أَنفُسِكُمْ yourselves anfusikum
yourselves
تَحِيَّةًۭ a greeting taḥiyyatan
a greeting
مِّنْ from min
from
عِندِ from ʿindi
from
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
مُبَـٰرَكَةًۭ blessed mubārakatan
blessed
طَيِّبَةًۭ ۚ (and) good ṭayyibatan
(and) good
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika
Thus
يُبَيِّنُ Allah makes clear yubayyinu
Allah makes clear
ٱللَّهُ Allah makes clear l-lahu
Allah makes clear
لَكُمُ for you lakumu
for you
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ the Verses l-āyāti
the Verses
لَعَلَّكُمْ so that you may laʿallakum
so that you may
تَعْقِلُونَ understand taʿqilūna
understand
٦١ (61)
(61)
There is not upon the blind [any] constraint nor upon the lame constraint nor upon the ill constraint nor upon yourselves when you eat from your [own] houses or the houses of your fathers or the houses of your mothers or the houses of your brothers or the houses of your sisters or the houses of your father's brothers or the houses of your father's sisters or the houses of your mother's brothers or the houses of your mother's sisters or [from houses] whose keys you possess or [from the house] of your friend. There is no blame upon you whether you eat together or separately. But when you enter houses, give greetings of peace upon each other - a greeting from Allāh, blessed and good. Thus does Allāh make clear to you the verses [of ordinance] that you may understand.
24:62
إِنَّمَا Only innamā
Only
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ the believers l-mu'minūna
the believers
ٱلَّذِينَ (are) those who alladhīna
(are) those who
ءَامَنُوا۟ believe āmanū
believe
بِٱللَّهِ in Allah bil-lahi
in Allah
وَرَسُولِهِۦ and His Messenger warasūlihi
and His Messenger
وَإِذَا and when wa-idhā
and when
كَانُوا۟ they are kānū
they are
مَعَهُۥ with him maʿahu
with him
عَلَىٰٓ for ʿalā
for
أَمْرٍۢ a matter amrin
a matter
جَامِعٍۢ (of) collective action jāmiʿin
(of) collective action
لَّمْ not lam
not
يَذْهَبُوا۟ they go yadhhabū
they go
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
يَسْتَـْٔذِنُوهُ ۚ they (have) asked his permission yastadhinūhu
they (have) asked his permission
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
يَسْتَـْٔذِنُونَكَ ask your permission yastadhinūnaka
ask your permission
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those ulāika
those
ٱلَّذِينَ [those who] alladhīna
[those who]
يُؤْمِنُونَ believe yu'minūna
believe
بِٱللَّهِ in Allah bil-lahi
in Allah
وَرَسُولِهِۦ ۚ and His Messenger warasūlihi
and His Messenger
فَإِذَا So when fa-idhā
So when
ٱسْتَـْٔذَنُوكَ they ask your permission is'tadhanūka
they ask your permission
لِبَعْضِ for some libaʿḍi
for some
شَأْنِهِمْ affair of theirs shanihim
affair of theirs
فَأْذَن then give permission fadhan
then give permission
لِّمَن to whom liman
to whom
شِئْتَ you will shi'ta
you will
مِنْهُمْ among them min'hum
among them
وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ and ask forgiveness wa-is'taghfir
and ask forgiveness
لَهُمُ for them lahumu
for them
ٱللَّهَ ۚ (of) Allah l-laha
(of) Allah
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ Allah l-laha
Allah
غَفُورٌۭ (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun
(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭ Most Merciful raḥīmun
Most Merciful
٦٢ (62)
(62)
The believers are only those who believe in Allāh and His Messenger and, when they are [meeting] with him for a matter of common interest, do not depart until they have asked his permission. Indeed, those who ask your permission, [O Muḥammad] - those are the ones who believe in Allāh and His Messenger. So when they ask your permission due to something of their affairs, then give permission to whom you will among them and ask forgiveness for them of Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
24:63
لَّا (Do) not

تَجْعَلُوا۟ make tajʿalū
make
دُعَآءَ (the) calling duʿāa
(the) calling
ٱلرَّسُولِ (of) the Messenger l-rasūli
(of) the Messenger
بَيْنَكُمْ among you baynakum
among you
كَدُعَآءِ as (the) call kaduʿāi
as (the) call
بَعْضِكُم (of) some of you baʿḍikum
(of) some of you
بَعْضًۭا ۚ (to) others baʿḍan
(to) others
قَدْ Verily qad
Verily
يَعْلَمُ Allah knows yaʿlamu
Allah knows
ٱللَّهُ Allah knows l-lahu
Allah knows
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
يَتَسَلَّلُونَ slip away yatasallalūna
slip away
مِنكُمْ among you minkum
among you
لِوَاذًۭا ۚ under shelter liwādhan
under shelter
فَلْيَحْذَرِ So let beware falyaḥdhari
So let beware
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
يُخَالِفُونَ oppose yukhālifūna
oppose
عَنْ [from] ʿan
[from]
أَمْرِهِۦٓ his orders amrihi
his orders
أَن lest an
lest
تُصِيبَهُمْ befalls them tuṣībahum
befalls them
فِتْنَةٌ a trial fit'natun
a trial
أَوْ or aw
or
يُصِيبَهُمْ befalls them yuṣībahum
befalls them
عَذَابٌ a punishment ʿadhābun
a punishment
أَلِيمٌ painful alīmun
painful
٦٣ (63)
(63)
Do not make [your] calling of the Messenger among yourselves as the call of one of you to another. Already Allāh knows those of you who slip away, concealed by others. So let those beware who dissent from his [i.e., the Prophet's] order, lest fitnah strike them or a painful punishment.
24:64
أَلَآ No doubt alā
No doubt
إِنَّ Indeed inna

لِلَّهِ to Allah (belongs) lillahi
to Allah (belongs)
مَا whatever
whatever
فِى (is) in
(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ and the earth wal-arḍi
and the earth
قَدْ Verily qad
Verily
يَعْلَمُ He knows yaʿlamu
He knows
مَآ what
what
أَنتُمْ you antum
you
عَلَيْهِ (are) on [it] ʿalayhi
(are) on [it]
وَيَوْمَ And (the) Day wayawma
And (the) Day
يُرْجَعُونَ they will be returned yur'jaʿūna
they will be returned
إِلَيْهِ to Him ilayhi
to Him
فَيُنَبِّئُهُم then He will inform them fayunabbi-uhum
then He will inform them
بِمَا of what bimā
of what
عَمِلُوا۟ ۗ they did ʿamilū
they did
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu
And Allah
بِكُلِّ of every bikulli
of every
شَىْءٍ thing shayin
thing
عَلِيمٌۢ (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knower
٦٤ (64)
(64)
Unquestionably, to Allāh belongs whatever is in the heavens and earth. Already He knows that upon which you [stand]1 and [knows] the Day when they will be returned to Him and He will inform them of what they have done. And Allāh is Knowing of all things.
