In (the) name
ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
٧٠:١
سَأَلَ Asked sa-ala
Asked
سَآئِلٌۢ a questioner sāilun
a questioner
بِعَذَابٍۢ about a punishment biʿadhābin
about a punishment
وَاقِعٍۢ bound to happen wāqiʿin
bound to happen
١ (1)
(1)
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen
٧٠:٢
لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ To the disbelievers lil'kāfirīna
To the disbelievers
لَيْسَ not laysa
not
لَهُۥ of it lahu
of it
دَافِعٌۭ any preventer dāfiʿun
any preventer
٢ (2)
(2)
To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer.
٧٠:٣
مِّنَ From mina
From
ٱللَّهِ Allah l-lahi
Allah
ذِى Owner dhī
Owner
ٱلْمَعَارِجِ (of) the ways of ascent l-maʿāriji
(of) the ways of ascent
٣ (3)
(3)
[It is] from Allāh, owner of the ways of ascent.
٧٠:٤
تَعْرُجُ Ascend taʿruju
Ascend
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ the Angels l-malāikatu
the Angels
وَٱلرُّوحُ and the Spirit wal-rūḥu
and the Spirit
إِلَيْهِ to Him ilayhi
to Him
فِى in
in
يَوْمٍۢ a Day yawmin
a Day
كَانَ [is] kāna
[is]
مِقْدَارُهُۥ its measure miq'dāruhu
its measure
خَمْسِينَ (is) fifty khamsīna
(is) fifty
أَلْفَ thousand alfa
thousand
سَنَةٍۢ year(s) sanatin
year(s)
٤ (4)
(4)
The angels and the Spirit [i.e., Gabriel] will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years.
٧٠:٥
فَٱصْبِرْ So be patient fa-iṣ'bir
So be patient
صَبْرًۭا a patience ṣabran
a patience
جَمِيلًا good jamīlan
good
٥ (5)
(5)
So be patient with gracious patience.
٧٠:٦
إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they innahum
Indeed, they
يَرَوْنَهُۥ see it yarawnahu
see it
بَعِيدًۭا (as) far off baʿīdan
(as) far off
٦ (6)
(6)
Indeed, they see it [as] distant,
٧٠:٧
وَنَرَىٰهُ But We see it wanarāhu
But We see it
قَرِيبًۭا near qarīban
near
٧ (7)
(7)
But We see it [as] near.
٧٠:٨
يَوْمَ (The) Day yawma
(The) Day
تَكُونُ will be takūnu
will be
ٱلسَّمَآءُ the sky l-samāu
the sky
كَٱلْمُهْلِ like molten copper kal-muh'li
like molten copper
٨ (8)
(8)
On the Day the sky will be like murky oil,
٧٠:٩
وَتَكُونُ And will be watakūnu
And will be
ٱلْجِبَالُ the mountains l-jibālu
the mountains
كَٱلْعِهْنِ like wool kal-ʿih'ni
like wool
٩ (9)
(9)
And the mountains will be like wool,
٧٠:١٠
وَلَا And not walā
And not
يَسْـَٔلُ will ask yasalu
will ask
حَمِيمٌ a friend ḥamīmun
a friend
حَمِيمًۭا (about) a friend ḥamīman
(about) a friend
١٠ (10)
(10)
And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend,
٧٠:١١
يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ They will be made to see each other yubaṣṣarūnahum
They will be made to see each other
يَوَدُّ Would wish yawaddu
Would wish
ٱلْمُجْرِمُ the criminal l-muj'rimu
the criminal
لَوْ if law
if
يَفْتَدِى he (could be) ransomed yaftadī
he (could be) ransomed
مِنْ from min
from
عَذَابِ (the) punishment ʿadhābi
(the) punishment
يَوْمِئِذٍۭ (of) that Day yawmi-idhin
(of) that Day
بِبَنِيهِ by his children bibanīhi
by his children
١١ (11)
(11)
They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children.
٧٠:١٢
وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ And his spouse waṣāḥibatihi
And his spouse
وَأَخِيهِ and his brother wa-akhīhi
and his brother
١٢ (12)
(12)
And his wife and his brother
٧٠:١٣
وَفَصِيلَتِهِ And his nearest kindred wafaṣīlatihi
And his nearest kindred
ٱلَّتِى who allatī
who
تُـْٔوِيهِ sheltered him tu'wīhi
sheltered him
١٣ (13)
(13)
And his nearest kindred who shelter him.
٧٠:١٤
وَمَن And whoever waman
And whoever
فِى (is) on
(is) on
ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth l-arḍi
the earth
جَمِيعًۭا all jamīʿan
all
ثُمَّ then thumma
then
يُنجِيهِ it (could) save him yunjīhi
it (could) save him
١٤ (14)
(14)
And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him.
٧٠:١٥
كَلَّآ ۖ By no means kallā
By no means
إِنَّهَا Indeed, it (is) innahā
Indeed, it (is)
لَظَىٰ surely a Flame of Hell laẓā
surely a Flame of Hell
١٥ (15)
(15)
No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell],
٧٠:١٦
نَزَّاعَةًۭ A remover nazzāʿatan
A remover
لِّلشَّوَىٰ of the skin of the head lilshawā
of the skin of the head
١٦ (16)
(16)
A remover of exteriors.
٧٠:١٧
تَدْعُوا۟ Inviting tadʿū
Inviting
مَنْ (him) who man
(him) who
أَدْبَرَ turned his back adbara
turned his back
وَتَوَلَّىٰ and went away watawallā
and went away
١٧ (17)
(17)
It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience]
٧٠:١٨
وَجَمَعَ And collected wajamaʿa
And collected
فَأَوْعَىٰٓ and hoarded fa-awʿā
and hoarded
١٨ (18)
(18)
And collected [wealth] and hoarded.
٧٠:١٩
۞ إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ the man l-insāna
the man
خُلِقَ was created khuliqa
was created
هَلُوعًا anxious halūʿan
anxious
١٩ (19)
(19)
Indeed, mankind was created anxious:
٧٠:٢٠
إِذَا When idhā
When
مَسَّهُ touches him massahu
touches him
ٱلشَّرُّ the evil l-sharu
the evil
جَزُوعًۭا distressed jazūʿan
distressed
٢٠ (20)
(20)
When evil touches him, impatient,
٧٠:٢١
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā
And when
مَسَّهُ touches him massahu
touches him
ٱلْخَيْرُ the good l-khayru
the good
مَنُوعًا withholding manūʿan
withholding
٢١ (21)
(21)
And when good touches him, withholding [of it],
٧٠:٢٢
إِلَّا Except illā
Except
ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ those who pray l-muṣalīna
those who pray
٢٢ (22)
(22)
Except the observers of prayer -
٧٠:٢٣
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna
Those who
هُمْ [they] hum
[they]
عَلَىٰ at ʿalā
at
صَلَاتِهِمْ their prayer ṣalātihim
their prayer
دَآئِمُونَ (are) constant dāimūna
(are) constant
٢٣ (23)
(23)
Those who are constant in their prayer
٧٠:٢٤
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
فِىٓ in
in
أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ their wealth amwālihim
their wealth
حَقٌّۭ (is) a right ḥaqqun
(is) a right
مَّعْلُومٌۭ known maʿlūmun
known
٢٤ (24)
(24)
And those within whose wealth is a known right
٧٠:٢٥
لِّلسَّآئِلِ For the one who asks lilssāili
For the one who asks
وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ and the deprived wal-maḥrūmi
and the deprived
٢٥ (25)
(25)
For the petitioner and the deprived -
٧٠:٢٦
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
يُصَدِّقُونَ accept (the) truth yuṣaddiqūna
accept (the) truth
بِيَوْمِ (of the) Day biyawmi
(of the) Day
ٱلدِّينِ (of) the Judgment l-dīni
(of) the Judgment
٢٦ (26)
(26)
And those who believe in the Day of Recompense
٧٠:٢٧
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
هُم [they] hum
[they]
مِّنْ of min
of
عَذَابِ (the) punishment ʿadhābi
(the) punishment
رَبِّهِم (of) their Lord rabbihim
(of) their Lord
مُّشْفِقُونَ (are) fearful mush'fiqūna
(are) fearful
٢٧ (27)
(27)
And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord -
٧٠:٢٨
إِنَّ Indeed inna
Indeed
عَذَابَ (the) punishment ʿadhāba
(the) punishment
رَبِّهِمْ (of) your Lord rabbihim
(of) your Lord
غَيْرُ (is) not ghayru
(is) not
مَأْمُونٍۢ to be felt secure (of) mamūnin
to be felt secure (of)
٢٨ (28)
(28)
Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe -
٧٠:٢٩
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
هُمْ [they] hum
[they]
لِفُرُوجِهِمْ their modesty lifurūjihim
their modesty
حَـٰفِظُونَ (are) guardians ḥāfiẓūna
(are) guardians
٢٩ (29)
(29)
And those who guard their private parts
٧٠:٣٠
إِلَّا Except illā
Except
عَلَىٰٓ from ʿalā
from
أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ their spouses azwājihim
their spouses
أَوْ or aw
or
مَا what
what
مَلَكَتْ they possess malakat
they possess
أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ rightfully aymānuhum
rightfully
فَإِنَّهُمْ then indeed, they fa-innahum
then indeed, they
غَيْرُ (are) not ghayru
(are) not
مَلُومِينَ blameworthy malūmīna
blameworthy
٣٠ (30)
(30)
Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed -
٧٠:٣١
فَمَنِ But whoever famani
But whoever
ٱبْتَغَىٰ seeks ib'taghā
seeks
وَرَآءَ beyond warāa
beyond
ذَٰلِكَ that dhālika
that
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those fa-ulāika
then those
هُمُ [they] humu
[they]
ٱلْعَادُونَ (are) the transgressors l-ʿādūna
(are) the transgressors
٣١ (31)
(31)
But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors -
٧٠:٣٢
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
هُمْ [they] hum
[they]
لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ of their trusts li-amānātihim
of their trusts
وَعَهْدِهِمْ and their promise waʿahdihim
and their promise
رَٰعُونَ (are) observers rāʿūna
(are) observers
٣٢ (32)
(32)
And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive.
٧٠:٣٣
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
هُم [they] hum
[they]
بِشَهَـٰدَٰتِهِمْ in their testimonies bishahādātihim
in their testimonies
قَآئِمُونَ stand firm qāimūna
stand firm
٣٣ (33)
(33)
And those who are in their testimonies upright
٧٠:٣٤
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna
And those who
هُمْ [they] hum
[they]
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
صَلَاتِهِمْ their prayer ṣalātihim
their prayer
يُحَافِظُونَ keep a guard yuḥāfiẓūna
keep a guard
٣٤ (34)
(34)
And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer:
٧٠:٣٥
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika
Those
فِى (will be) in
(will be) in
جَنَّـٰتٍۢ Gardens jannātin
Gardens
مُّكْرَمُونَ honored muk'ramūna
honored
٣٥ (35)
(35)
They will be in gardens, honored.
٧٠:٣٦
فَمَالِ So what is with famāli
So what is with
ٱلَّذِينَ those who alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve kafarū
disbelieve
قِبَلَكَ before you qibalaka
before you
مُهْطِعِينَ (they) hasten muh'ṭiʿīna
(they) hasten
٣٦ (36)
(36)
So what is [the matter] with those who disbelieve, hastening [from] before you, [O Muḥammad],
٧٠:٣٧
عَنِ On ʿani
On
ٱلْيَمِينِ the right l-yamīni
the right
وَعَنِ and on waʿani
and on
ٱلشِّمَالِ the left l-shimāli
the left
عِزِينَ (in) separate groups ʿizīna
(in) separate groups
٣٧ (37)
(37)
[To sit] on [your] right and [your] left in separate groups?
٧٠:٣٨
أَيَطْمَعُ Does long ayaṭmaʿu
Does long
كُلُّ every kullu
every
ٱمْرِئٍۢ person im'ri-in
person
مِّنْهُمْ among them min'hum
among them
أَن that an
that
يُدْخَلَ he enters yud'khala
he enters
جَنَّةَ a Garden jannata
a Garden
نَعِيمٍۢ (of) Delight naʿīmin
(of) Delight
٣٨ (38)
(38)
Does every person among them aspire to enter a garden of pleasure?
٧٠:٣٩
كَلَّآ ۖ By no means kallā
By no means
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We
خَلَقْنَـٰهُم [We] have created them khalaqnāhum
[We] have created them
مِّمَّا from what mimmā
from what
يَعْلَمُونَ they know yaʿlamūna
they know
٣٩ (39)
(39)
No! Indeed, We have created them from that which they know.
٧٠:٤٠
فَلَآ But nay falā
But nay
أُقْسِمُ I swear uq'simu
I swear
بِرَبِّ by (the) Lord birabbi
by (the) Lord
ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ (of) the risings l-mashāriqi
(of) the risings
وَٱلْمَغَـٰرِبِ and the settings wal-maghāribi
and the settings
إِنَّا that We innā
that We
لَقَـٰدِرُونَ (are) surely Able laqādirūna
(are) surely Able
٤٠ (40)
(40)
So I swear by the Lord of [all] risings and settings that indeed We are able
٧٠:٤١
عَلَىٰٓ [On] ʿalā
[On]
أَن to an
to
نُّبَدِّلَ [We] replace nubaddila
[We] replace
خَيْرًۭا (with) better khayran
(with) better
مِّنْهُمْ than them min'hum
than them
وَمَا and not wamā
and not
نَحْنُ We naḥnu
We
بِمَسْبُوقِينَ (are) to be outrun bimasbūqīna
(are) to be outrun
٤١ (41)
(41)
To replace them with better than them; and We are not to be outdone.
٧٠:٤٢
فَذَرْهُمْ So leave them fadharhum
So leave them
يَخُوضُوا۟ (to) converse vainly yakhūḍū
(to) converse vainly
وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ and amuse themselves wayalʿabū
and amuse themselves
حَتَّىٰ until ḥattā
until
يُلَـٰقُوا۟ they meet yulāqū
they meet
يَوْمَهُمُ their Day yawmahumu
their Day
ٱلَّذِى which alladhī
which
يُوعَدُونَ they are promised yūʿadūna
they are promised
٤٢ (42)
(42)
So leave them to converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised -
٧٠:٤٣
يَوْمَ (The) Day yawma
(The) Day
يَخْرُجُونَ they will come out yakhrujūna
they will come out
مِنَ from mina
from
ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ the graves l-ajdāthi
the graves
سِرَاعًۭا rapidly sirāʿan
rapidly
كَأَنَّهُمْ as if they (were) ka-annahum
as if they (were)
إِلَىٰ to ilā
to
نُصُبٍۢ a goal nuṣubin
a goal
يُوفِضُونَ hastening yūfiḍūna
hastening
٤٣ (43)
(43)
The Day they will emerge from the graves rapidly as if they were, toward an erected idol, hastening.
٧٠:٤٤
خَـٰشِعَةً Humbled khāshiʿatan
Humbled
أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ their eyesights abṣāruhum
their eyesights
تَرْهَقُهُمْ will cover them tarhaquhum
will cover them
ذِلَّةٌۭ ۚ humiliation dhillatun
humiliation
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika
That
ٱلْيَوْمُ (is) the Day l-yawmu
(is) the Day
ٱلَّذِى which alladhī
which
كَانُوا۟ they were kānū
they were
يُوعَدُونَ promised yūʿadūna
promised
٤٤ (44)
(44)
Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. That is the Day which they had been promised.
