ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious
ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
٦٩:١
ٱلْحَآقَّةُ The Inevitable Reality al-ḥāqatu
The Inevitable Reality

مَا What
What
ٱلْحَآقَّةُ (is) the Inevitable Reality l-ḥāqatu
(is) the Inevitable Reality
٢ (2)
(2)
What is the Inevitable Reality?
٦٩:٣
وَمَآ And what wamā
And what
أَدْرَىٰكَ will make you know adrāka
will make you know
مَا what
what
ٱلْحَآقَّةُ (is) the Inevitable Reality l-ḥāqatu
(is) the Inevitable Reality
٣ (3)
(3)
And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality?
٦٩:٤
كَذَّبَتْ Denied kadhabat
Denied
ثَمُودُ Thamud thamūdu
Thamud
وَعَادٌۢ and Aad waʿādun
and Aad
بِٱلْقَارِعَةِ the Striking Calamity bil-qāriʿati
the Striking Calamity
٤ (4)
(4)
Thamūd and ʿAad denied the Striking Calamity [i.e., the Resurrection].
٦٩:٥
فَأَمَّا So as for fa-ammā
So as for
ثَمُودُ Thamud thamūdu
Thamud
فَأُهْلِكُوا۟ they were destroyed fa-uh'likū
they were destroyed
بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِ by the overpowering (blast) bil-ṭāghiyati
by the overpowering (blast)

(5)
So as for Thamūd, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast].
٦٩:٦
وَأَمَّا And as for wa-ammā
And as for
عَادٌۭ Aad ʿādun
Aad
فَأُهْلِكُوا۟ they were destroyed fa-uh'likū
they were destroyed
بِرِيحٍۢ by a wind birīḥin
by a wind
صَرْصَرٍ screaming ṣarṣarin
screaming
عَاتِيَةٍۢ violent ʿātiyatin
violent
٦ (6)
(6)
And as for ʿAad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind
٦٩:٧
سَخَّرَهَا Which He imposed sakharahā
Which He imposed
عَلَيْهِمْ upon them ʿalayhim
upon them
سَبْعَ (for) seven sabʿa
(for) seven
لَيَالٍۢ nights layālin
nights
وَثَمَـٰنِيَةَ and eight wathamāniyata
and eight
أَيَّامٍ days ayyāmin
days
حُسُومًۭا (in) succession ḥusūman
(in) succession
فَتَرَى so you would see fatarā
so you would see
ٱلْقَوْمَ the people l-qawma
the people
فِيهَا therein fīhā
therein
صَرْعَىٰ fallen ṣarʿā
fallen
كَأَنَّهُمْ as if they were ka-annahum
as if they were
أَعْجَازُ trunks aʿjāzu
trunks
نَخْلٍ (of) date-palms nakhlin
(of) date-palms
خَاوِيَةٍۢ hollow khāwiyatin
hollow
٧ (7)
(7)
Which He [i.e., Allāh] imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.
٦٩:٨
فَهَلْ Then do fahal
Then do
تَرَىٰ you see tarā
you see
لَهُم of them lahum
of them
مِّنۢ any min
any
بَاقِيَةٍۢ remains bāqiyatin
remains
٨ (8)
(8)
Then do you see of them any remains?
٦٩:٩
وَجَآءَ And came wajāa
And came
فِرْعَوْنُ Firaun fir'ʿawnu
Firaun
وَمَن and (those) waman
and (those)
قَبْلَهُۥ before him qablahu
before him
وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَـٰتُ and the overturned cities wal-mu'tafikātu
and the overturned cities
بِٱلْخَاطِئَةِ with sin bil-khāṭi-ati
with sin
٩ (9)
(9)
And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin.
٦٩:١٠
فَعَصَوْا۟ And they disobeyed faʿaṣaw
And they disobeyed
رَسُولَ (the) Messenger rasūla
(the) Messenger
رَبِّهِمْ (of) their Lord rabbihim
(of) their Lord
فَأَخَذَهُمْ so He seized them fa-akhadhahum
so He seized them
أَخْذَةًۭ (with) a seizure akhdhatan
(with) a seizure
رَّابِيَةً exceeding rābiyatan
exceeding
١٠ (10)
(10)
And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity].
٦٩:١١
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā
Indeed, We
لَمَّا when lammā
when
طَغَا overflowed ṭaghā
overflowed
ٱلْمَآءُ the water l-māu
the water
حَمَلْنَـٰكُمْ We carried you ḥamalnākum
We carried you
فِى in
in
ٱلْجَارِيَةِ the sailing (ship) l-jāriyati
the sailing (ship)
١١ (11)
(11)
Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried you [i.e., your ancestors] in the sailing ship
٦٩:١٢
لِنَجْعَلَهَا That We might make it linajʿalahā
That We might make it
لَكُمْ for you lakum
for you
تَذْكِرَةًۭ a reminder tadhkiratan
a reminder
وَتَعِيَهَآ and would be conscious of it wataʿiyahā
and would be conscious of it
أُذُنٌۭ an ear udhunun
an ear
وَٰعِيَةٌۭ conscious wāʿiyatun
conscious
١٢ (12)
(12)
That We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it.
٦٩:١٣
فَإِذَا Then when fa-idhā
Then when
نُفِخَ is blown nufikha
is blown
فِى in
in
ٱلصُّورِ the trumpet l-ṣūri
the trumpet
نَفْخَةٌۭ a blast nafkhatun
a blast
وَٰحِدَةٌۭ single wāḥidatun
single
١٣ (13)
(13)
Then when the Horn is blown with one blast
٦٩:١٤
وَحُمِلَتِ And are lifted waḥumilati
And are lifted
ٱلْأَرْضُ the earth l-arḍu
the earth
وَٱلْجِبَالُ and the mountains wal-jibālu
and the mountains
فَدُكَّتَا and crushed fadukkatā
and crushed
دَكَّةًۭ (with) a crushing dakkatan
(with) a crushing
وَٰحِدَةًۭ single wāḥidatan
single
١٤ (14)
(14)
And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow [i.e., stroke] -
٦٩:١٥
فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢ Then (on) that Day fayawma-idhin
Then (on) that Day
وَقَعَتِ will occur waqaʿati
will occur
ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ the Occurrence l-wāqiʿatu
the Occurrence
١٥ (15)
(15)
Then on that Day, the Occurrence [i.e., Resurrection] will occur,
٦٩:١٦
وَٱنشَقَّتِ And will split wa-inshaqqati
And will split
ٱلسَّمَآءُ the heaven l-samāu
the heaven
فَهِىَ so it fahiya
so it
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ (is on) that Day yawma-idhin
(is on) that Day
وَاهِيَةٌۭ frail wāhiyatun
frail
١٦ (16)
(16)
And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm.
٦٩:١٧
وَٱلْمَلَكُ And the Angels wal-malaku
And the Angels
عَلَىٰٓ (will be) on ʿalā
(will be) on
أَرْجَآئِهَا ۚ its edges arjāihā
its edges
وَيَحْمِلُ and will bear wayaḥmilu
and will bear
عَرْشَ (the) Throne ʿarsha
(the) Throne
رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord rabbika
(of) your Lord
فَوْقَهُمْ above them fawqahum
above them
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ that Day yawma-idhin
that Day
ثَمَـٰنِيَةٌۭ eight thamāniyatun
eight
١٧ (17)
(17)
And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them].
٦٩:١٨
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ That Day yawma-idhin
That Day
تُعْرَضُونَ you will be exhibited tuʿ'raḍūna
you will be exhibited
لَا not
not
تَخْفَىٰ will be hidden takhfā
will be hidden
مِنكُمْ among you minkum
among you
خَافِيَةٌۭ any secret khāfiyatun
any secret
١٨ (18)
(18)
That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed.
٦٩:١٩
فَأَمَّا Then as for fa-ammā
Then as for
مَنْ (him) who man
(him) who
أُوتِىَ is given ūtiya
is given
كِتَـٰبَهُۥ his record kitābahu
his record
بِيَمِينِهِۦ in his right hand biyamīnihi
in his right hand
فَيَقُولُ will say fayaqūlu
will say
هَآؤُمُ Here hāumu
Here
ٱقْرَءُوا۟ read iq'raū
read
كِتَـٰبِيَهْ my record kitābiyah
my record
١٩ (19)
(19)
So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record!
٦٩:٢٠
إِنِّى Indeed, I innī
Indeed, I
ظَنَنتُ was certain ẓanantu
was certain
أَنِّى that I annī
that I
مُلَـٰقٍ (will) meet mulāqin
(will) meet
حِسَابِيَهْ my account ḥisābiyah
my account
٢٠ (20)
(20)
Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account."
٦٩:٢١
فَهُوَ So he fahuwa
So he
فِى (will be) in
(will be) in
عِيشَةٍۢ a life ʿīshatin
a life
رَّاضِيَةٍۢ pleasant rāḍiyatin
pleasant
٢١ (21)
(21)
So he will be in a pleasant life -
٦٩:٢٢
فِى In
In
جَنَّةٍ a Garden jannatin
a Garden
عَالِيَةٍۢ elevated ʿāliyatin
elevated
٢٢ (22)
(22)
In an elevated garden,
٦٩:٢٣
قُطُوفُهَا Its clusters of fruits quṭūfuhā
Its clusters of fruits
دَانِيَةٌۭ hanging near dāniyatun
hanging near
٢٣ (23)
(23)
Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near.
٦٩:٢٤
كُلُوا۟ Eat kulū
Eat
وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ and drink wa-ish'rabū
and drink
هَنِيٓـًٔۢا (in) satisfaction hanīan
(in) satisfaction
بِمَآ for what bimā
for what
أَسْلَفْتُمْ you sent before you aslaftum
you sent before you
فِى in
in
ٱلْأَيَّامِ the days l-ayāmi
the days
ٱلْخَالِيَةِ past l-khāliyati
past
٢٤ (24)
(24)
[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past."
٦٩:٢٥
وَأَمَّا But as for wa-ammā
But as for
مَنْ (him) who man
(him) who
أُوتِىَ is given ūtiya
is given
كِتَـٰبَهُۥ his record kitābahu
his record
بِشِمَالِهِۦ in his left hand bishimālihi
in his left hand
فَيَقُولُ will say fayaqūlu
will say
يَـٰلَيْتَنِى O! I wish yālaytanī
O! I wish
لَمْ not lam
not
أُوتَ I had been given ūta
I had been given
كِتَـٰبِيَهْ my record kitābiyah
my record
٢٥ (25)
(25)
But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my record
٦٩:٢٦
وَلَمْ And not walam
And not
أَدْرِ I had known adri
I had known
مَا what
what
حِسَابِيَهْ (is) my account ḥisābiyah
(is) my account
٢٦ (26)
(26)
And had not known what is my account.
٦٩:٢٧
يَـٰلَيْتَهَا O! I wish it yālaytahā
O! I wish it
كَانَتِ had been kānati
had been
ٱلْقَاضِيَةَ the end l-qāḍiyata
the end
٢٧ (27)
(27)
I wish it [i.e., my death] had been the decisive one.
٦٩:٢٨
مَآ Not
Not
أَغْنَىٰ has availed aghnā
has availed
عَنِّى me ʿannī
me
مَالِيَهْ ۜ my wealth māliyah
my wealth
٢٨ (28)
(28)
My wealth has not availed me.
٦٩:٢٩
هَلَكَ Is gone halaka
Is gone
عَنِّى from me ʿannī
from me
سُلْطَـٰنِيَهْ my authority sul'ṭāniyah
my authority
٢٩ (29)
(29)
Gone from me is my authority."1
٦٩:٣٠
خُذُوهُ Seize him khudhūhu
Seize him
فَغُلُّوهُ and shackle him faghullūhu
and shackle him
٣٠ (30)
(30)
[Allāh will say], "Seize him and shackle him.
٦٩:٣١
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
ٱلْجَحِيمَ (into) the Hellfire l-jaḥīma
(into) the Hellfire
صَلُّوهُ burn him ṣallūhu
burn him
٣١ (31)
(31)
Then into Hellfire drive him.
٦٩:٣٢
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
فِى into
into
سِلْسِلَةٍۢ a chain sil'silatin
a chain
ذَرْعُهَا its length dharʿuhā
its length
سَبْعُونَ (is) seventy sabʿūna
(is) seventy
ذِرَاعًۭا cubits dhirāʿan
cubits
فَٱسْلُكُوهُ insert him fa-us'lukūhu
insert him
٣٢ (32)
(32)
Then into a chain whose length is seventy cubits insert him."
٦٩:٣٣
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he innahu
Indeed, he
كَانَ was kāna
was
لَا not
not
يُؤْمِنُ believing yu'minu
believing
بِٱللَّهِ in Allah bil-lahi
in Allah
ٱلْعَظِيمِ the Most Great l-ʿaẓīmi
the Most Great
٣٣ (33)
(33)
Indeed, he did not used to believe in Allāh, the Most Great,
٦٩:٣٤
وَلَا And (did) not walā
And (did) not
يَحُضُّ feel the urge yaḥuḍḍu
feel the urge
عَلَىٰ on ʿalā
on
طَعَامِ (the) feeding ṭaʿāmi
(the) feeding
ٱلْمِسْكِينِ (of) the poor l-mis'kīni
(of) the poor
٣٤ (34)
(34)
Nor did he encourage the feeding of the poor.
٦٩:٣٥
فَلَيْسَ So not falaysa
So not
لَهُ for him lahu
for him
ٱلْيَوْمَ today l-yawma
today
هَـٰهُنَا here hāhunā
here
حَمِيمٌۭ any devoted friend ḥamīmun
any devoted friend
٣٥ (35)
(35)
So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend
٦٩:٣٦
وَلَا And not walā
And not
طَعَامٌ any food ṭaʿāmun
any food
إِلَّا except illā
except
مِنْ from min
from
غِسْلِينٍۢ (the) discharge of wounds ghis'līnin
(the) discharge of wounds
٣٦ (36)
(36)
Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds;
٦٩:٣٧
لَّا Not
Not
يَأْكُلُهُۥٓ will eat it yakuluhu
will eat it
إِلَّا except illā
except
ٱلْخَـٰطِـُٔونَ the sinners l-khāṭiūna
the sinners
٣٧ (37)
(37)
None will eat it except the sinners.
٦٩:٣٨
فَلَآ But nay falā
But nay
أُقْسِمُ I swear uq'simu
I swear
بِمَا by what bimā
by what
تُبْصِرُونَ you see tub'ṣirūna
you see
٣٨ (38)
(38)
So I swear by what you see
٦٩:٣٩
وَمَا And what wamā
And what
لَا not
not
تُبْصِرُونَ you see tub'ṣirūna
you see
٣٩ (39)
(39)
And what you do not see
٦٩:٤٠
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, it (is) innahu
Indeed, it (is)
لَقَوْلُ surely (the) Word laqawlu
surely (the) Word
رَسُولٍۢ (of) a Messenger rasūlin
(of) a Messenger
كَرِيمٍۢ noble karīmin
noble
٤٠ (40)
(40)
[That] indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is the word of a noble Messenger.
٦٩:٤١
وَمَا And not wamā
And not
هُوَ it huwa
it
بِقَوْلِ (is the) word biqawli
(is the) word
شَاعِرٍۢ ۚ (of) a poet shāʿirin
(of) a poet
قَلِيلًۭا little qalīlan
little
مَّا (is) what
(is) what
تُؤْمِنُونَ you believe tu'minūna
you believe
٤١ (41)
(41)
And it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe.
٦٩:٤٢
وَلَا And not walā
And not
بِقَوْلِ (it is the) word biqawli
(it is the) word
كَاهِنٍۢ ۚ (of) a soothsayer kāhinin
(of) a soothsayer
قَلِيلًۭا little qalīlan
little
مَّا (is) what
(is) what
تَذَكَّرُونَ you take heed tadhakkarūna
you take heed
٤٢ (42)
(42)
Nor the word of a soothsayer; little do you remember.
٦٩:٤٣
تَنزِيلٌۭ (It is) a revelation tanzīlun
(It is) a revelation
مِّن from min
from
رَّبِّ (the) Lord rabbi
(the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds
٤٣ (43)
(43)
[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
٦٩:٤٤
وَلَوْ And if walaw
And if
تَقَوَّلَ he (had) fabricated taqawwala
he (had) fabricated
عَلَيْنَا against Us ʿalaynā
against Us
بَعْضَ some baʿḍa
some
ٱلْأَقَاوِيلِ sayings l-aqāwīli
sayings
٤٤ (44)
(44)
And if he [i.e., Muḥammad] had made up about Us some [false] sayings,
٦٩:٤٥
لَأَخَذْنَا Certainly We (would) have seized la-akhadhnā
Certainly We (would) have seized
مِنْهُ him min'hu
him
بِٱلْيَمِينِ by the right hand bil-yamīni
by the right hand
٤٥ (45)
(45)
We would have seized him by the right hand;
٦٩:٤٦
ثُمَّ Then thumma
Then
لَقَطَعْنَا certainly We (would) have cut off laqaṭaʿnā
certainly We (would) have cut off
مِنْهُ from him min'hu
from him
ٱلْوَتِينَ the aorta l-watīna
the aorta
٤٦ (46)
(46)
Then We would have cut from him the aorta.
٦٩:٤٧
فَمَا And not famā
And not
مِنكُم from you minkum
from you
مِّنْ any min
any
أَحَدٍ one aḥadin
one
عَنْهُ [from him] ʿanhu
[from him]
حَـٰجِزِينَ (who could) prevent (it) ḥājizīna
(who could) prevent (it)
٤٧ (47)
(47)
And there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him.
٦٩:٤٨
وَإِنَّهُۥ And indeed, it wa-innahu
And indeed, it
لَتَذْكِرَةٌۭ (is) surely a reminder latadhkiratun
(is) surely a reminder
لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ for the Allah-fearing lil'muttaqīna
for the Allah-fearing
٤٨ (48)
(48)
And indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is a reminder for the righteous.
٦٩:٤٩
وَإِنَّا And indeed, We wa-innā
And indeed, We
لَنَعْلَمُ surely know lanaʿlamu
surely know
أَنَّ that anna
that
مِنكُم among you minkum
among you
مُّكَذِّبِينَ (are) deniers mukadhibīna
(are) deniers
٤٩ (49)
(49)
And indeed, We know that among you are deniers.
٦٩:٥٠
وَإِنَّهُۥ And indeed, it wa-innahu
And indeed, it
لَحَسْرَةٌ (is) surely a regret laḥasratun
(is) surely a regret
عَلَى upon ʿalā
upon
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ the disbelievers l-kāfirīna
the disbelievers
٥٠ (50)
(50)
And indeed, it will be [a cause of] regret upon the disbelievers.
٦٩:٥١
وَإِنَّهُۥ And indeed, it (is) wa-innahu
And indeed, it (is)
لَحَقُّ surely (the) truth laḥaqqu
surely (the) truth
ٱلْيَقِينِ (of) certainty l-yaqīni
(of) certainty
٥١ (51)
(51)
And indeed, it is the truth of certainty.
٦٩:٥٢
فَسَبِّحْ So glorify fasabbiḥ
So glorify
بِٱسْمِ (the) name bi-is'mi
(the) name
رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord rabbika
(of) your Lord
ٱلْعَظِيمِ the Most Great l-ʿaẓīmi
the Most Great
٥٢ (52)
(52)
So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
