بسملة

بِسْمِIn (the) nameٱللَّهِ(of) Allahٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِthe Most Graciousٱلرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

٦٩:١

ٱلْحَآقَّةُThe Inevitable Reality١

The Inevitable Reality -

٦٩:٢

مَاWhatٱلْحَآقَّةُ(is) the Inevitable Reality٢

What is the Inevitable Reality?

٦٩:٣

وَمَآAnd whatأَدْرَىٰكَwill make you knowمَاwhatٱلْحَآقَّةُ(is) the Inevitable Reality٣

And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality?

٦٩:٤

كَذَّبَتْDeniedثَمُودُThamudوَعَادٌۢand Aadبِٱلْقَارِعَةِthe Striking Calamity٤

Thamūd and ʿAad denied the Striking Calamity [i.e., the Resurrection].

٦٩:٥

فَأَمَّاSo as forثَمُودُThamudفَأُهْلِكُوا۟they were destroyedبِٱلطَّاغِيَةِby the overpowering (blast)٥

So as for Thamūd, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast].

٦٩:٦

وَأَمَّاAnd as forعَادٌۭAadفَأُهْلِكُوا۟they were destroyedبِرِيحٍۢby a windصَرْصَرٍscreamingعَاتِيَةٍۢviolent٦

And as for ʿAad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind

٦٩:٧

سَخَّرَهَاWhich He imposedعَلَيْهِمْupon themسَبْعَ(for) sevenلَيَالٍۢnightsوَثَمَـٰنِيَةَand eightأَيَّامٍdaysحُسُومًۭا(in) successionفَتَرَىso you would seeٱلْقَوْمَthe peopleفِيهَاthereinصَرْعَىٰfallenكَأَنَّهُمْas if they wereأَعْجَازُtrunksنَخْلٍ(of) date-palmsخَاوِيَةٍۢhollow٧

Which He [i.e., Allāh] imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.

٦٩:٨

فَهَلْThen doتَرَىٰyou seeلَهُمof themمِّنۢanyبَاقِيَةٍۢremains٨

Then do you see of them any remains?

٦٩:٩

وَجَآءَAnd cameفِرْعَوْنُFiraunوَمَنand (those)قَبْلَهُۥbefore himوَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَـٰتُand the overturned citiesبِٱلْخَاطِئَةِwith sin٩

And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin.

٦٩:١٠

فَعَصَوْا۟And they disobeyedرَسُولَ(the) Messengerرَبِّهِمْ(of) their Lordفَأَخَذَهُمْso He seized themأَخْذَةًۭ(with) a seizureرَّابِيَةًexceeding١٠

And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity].

٦٩:١١

إِنَّاIndeed, Weلَمَّاwhenطَغَاoverflowedٱلْمَآءُthe waterحَمَلْنَـٰكُمْWe carried youفِىinٱلْجَارِيَةِthe sailing (ship)١١

Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried you [i.e., your ancestors] in the sailing ship

٦٩:١٢

لِنَجْعَلَهَاThat We might make itلَكُمْfor youتَذْكِرَةًۭa reminderوَتَعِيَهَآand would be conscious of itأُذُنٌۭan earوَٰعِيَةٌۭconscious١٢

That We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it.

٦٩:١٣

فَإِذَاThen whenنُفِخَis blownفِىinٱلصُّورِthe trumpet نَفْخَةٌۭa blastوَٰحِدَةٌۭsingle١٣

Then when the Horn is blown with one blast

٦٩:١٤

وَحُمِلَتِAnd are liftedٱلْأَرْضُthe earthوَٱلْجِبَالُand the mountainsفَدُكَّتَاand crushedدَكَّةًۭ(with) a crushingوَٰحِدَةًۭsingle١٤

And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow [i.e., stroke] -

٦٩:١٥

فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢThen (on) that Dayوَقَعَتِwill occurٱلْوَاقِعَةُthe Occurrence١٥

Then on that Day, the Occurrence [i.e., Resurrection] will occur,

٦٩:١٦

وَٱنشَقَّتِAnd will splitٱلسَّمَآءُthe heavenفَهِىَso itيَوْمَئِذٍۢ(is on) that Dayوَاهِيَةٌۭfrail١٦

And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm.

٦٩:١٧

وَٱلْمَلَكُAnd the Angelsعَلَىٰٓ(will be) onأَرْجَآئِهَا ۚits edgesوَيَحْمِلُand will bearعَرْشَ(the) Throneرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordفَوْقَهُمْabove themيَوْمَئِذٍۢthat Dayثَمَـٰنِيَةٌۭeight١٧

And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them].

٦٩:١٨

يَوْمَئِذٍۢThat Dayتُعْرَضُونَyou will be exhibitedلَاnotتَخْفَىٰwill be hiddenمِنكُمْamong youخَافِيَةٌۭany secret١٨

That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed.

٦٩:١٩

فَأَمَّاThen as forمَنْ(him) whoأُوتِىَis givenكِتَـٰبَهُۥhis recordبِيَمِينِهِۦin his right handفَيَقُولُwill sayهَآؤُمُHereٱقْرَءُوا۟readكِتَـٰبِيَهْmy record١٩

So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record!

٦٩:٢٠

إِنِّىIndeed, Iظَنَنتُwas certainأَنِّىthat Iمُلَـٰقٍ(will) meetحِسَابِيَهْmy account٢٠

Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account."

٦٩:٢١

فَهُوَSo heفِى(will be) inعِيشَةٍۢa lifeرَّاضِيَةٍۢpleasant٢١

So he will be in a pleasant life -

٦٩:٢٢

فِىInجَنَّةٍa Gardenعَالِيَةٍۢelevated٢٢

In an elevated garden,

٦٩:٢٣

قُطُوفُهَاIts clusters of fruitsدَانِيَةٌۭhanging near٢٣

Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near.

٦٩:٢٤

كُلُوا۟Eatوَٱشْرَبُوا۟and drinkهَنِيٓـًٔۢا(in) satisfactionبِمَآfor whatأَسْلَفْتُمْyou sent before youفِىinٱلْأَيَّامِthe daysٱلْخَالِيَةِpast٢٤

[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past."

٦٩:٢٥

وَأَمَّاBut as forمَنْ(him) whoأُوتِىَis givenكِتَـٰبَهُۥhis recordبِشِمَالِهِۦin his left handفَيَقُولُwill sayيَـٰلَيْتَنِىO! I wishلَمْnotأُوتَI had been givenكِتَـٰبِيَهْmy record٢٥

But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my record

٦٩:٢٦

وَلَمْAnd notأَدْرِI had knownمَاwhatحِسَابِيَهْ(is) my account٢٦

And had not known what is my account.

٦٩:٢٧

يَـٰلَيْتَهَاO! I wish itكَانَتِhad beenٱلْقَاضِيَةَthe end٢٧

I wish it [i.e., my death] had been the decisive one.

٦٩:٢٨

مَآNotأَغْنَىٰhas availedعَنِّىmeمَالِيَهْ ۜmy wealth٢٨

My wealth has not availed me.

٦٩:٢٩

هَلَكَIs goneعَنِّىfrom meسُلْطَـٰنِيَهْmy authority٢٩

Gone from me is my authority."1

٦٩:٣٠

خُذُوهُSeize himفَغُلُّوهُand shackle him٣٠

[Allāh will say], "Seize him and shackle him.

٦٩:٣١

ثُمَّThenٱلْجَحِيمَ(into) the Hellfireصَلُّوهُburn him٣١

Then into Hellfire drive him.

٦٩:٣٢

ثُمَّThenفِىintoسِلْسِلَةٍۢa chainذَرْعُهَاits lengthسَبْعُونَ(is) seventyذِرَاعًۭاcubitsفَٱسْلُكُوهُinsert him٣٢

Then into a chain whose length is seventy cubits insert him."

٦٩:٣٣

إِنَّهُۥIndeed, heكَانَwasلَاnotيُؤْمِنُbelievingبِٱللَّهِin Allahٱلْعَظِيمِthe Most Great٣٣

Indeed, he did not used to believe in Allāh, the Most Great,

٦٩:٣٤

وَلَاAnd (did) notيَحُضُّfeel the urgeعَلَىٰonطَعَامِ(the) feedingٱلْمِسْكِينِ(of) the poor٣٤

Nor did he encourage the feeding of the poor.

٦٩:٣٥

فَلَيْسَSo notلَهُfor himٱلْيَوْمَtodayهَـٰهُنَاhereحَمِيمٌۭany devoted friend٣٥

So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend

٦٩:٣٦

وَلَاAnd notطَعَامٌany foodإِلَّاexceptمِنْfromغِسْلِينٍۢ(the) discharge of wounds٣٦

Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds;

٦٩:٣٧

لَّاNotيَأْكُلُهُۥٓwill eat itإِلَّاexceptٱلْخَـٰطِـُٔونَthe sinners٣٧

None will eat it except the sinners.

٦٩:٣٨

فَلَآBut nayأُقْسِمُI swearبِمَاby whatتُبْصِرُونَyou see٣٨

So I swear by what you see

٦٩:٣٩

وَمَاAnd whatلَاnotتُبْصِرُونَyou see٣٩

And what you do not see

٦٩:٤٠

إِنَّهُۥIndeed, it (is)لَقَوْلُsurely (the) Wordرَسُولٍۢ(of) a Messengerكَرِيمٍۢnoble٤٠

[That] indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is the word of a noble Messenger.

٦٩:٤١

وَمَاAnd notهُوَitبِقَوْلِ(is the) wordشَاعِرٍۢ ۚ(of) a poetقَلِيلًۭاlittleمَّا(is) whatتُؤْمِنُونَyou believe٤١

And it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe.

٦٩:٤٢

وَلَاAnd notبِقَوْلِ(it is the) wordكَاهِنٍۢ ۚ(of) a soothsayerقَلِيلًۭاlittleمَّا(is) whatتَذَكَّرُونَyou take heed٤٢

Nor the word of a soothsayer; little do you remember.

٦٩:٤٣

تَنزِيلٌۭ(It is) a revelationمِّنfromرَّبِّ(the) Lordٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ(of) the worlds٤٣

[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.

٦٩:٤٤

وَلَوْAnd ifتَقَوَّلَhe (had) fabricatedعَلَيْنَاagainst Usبَعْضَsomeٱلْأَقَاوِيلِsayings٤٤

And if he [i.e., Muḥammad] had made up about Us some [false] sayings,

٦٩:٤٥

لَأَخَذْنَاCertainly We (would) have seizedمِنْهُhimبِٱلْيَمِينِby the right hand٤٥

We would have seized him by the right hand;

٦٩:٤٦

ثُمَّThenلَقَطَعْنَاcertainly We (would) have cut offمِنْهُfrom himٱلْوَتِينَthe aorta٤٦

Then We would have cut from him the aorta.

٦٩:٤٧

فَمَاAnd notمِنكُمfrom youمِّنْanyأَحَدٍoneعَنْهُ[from him]حَـٰجِزِينَ(who could) prevent (it)٤٧

And there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him.

٦٩:٤٨

وَإِنَّهُۥAnd indeed, itلَتَذْكِرَةٌۭ(is) surely a reminderلِّلْمُتَّقِينَfor the Allah-fearing٤٨

And indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is a reminder for the righteous.

٦٩:٤٩

وَإِنَّاAnd indeed, Weلَنَعْلَمُsurely knowأَنَّthatمِنكُمamong youمُّكَذِّبِينَ(are) deniers٤٩

And indeed, We know that among you are deniers.

٦٩:٥٠

وَإِنَّهُۥAnd indeed, itلَحَسْرَةٌ(is) surely a regretعَلَىuponٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَthe disbelievers٥٠

And indeed, it will be [a cause of] regret upon the disbelievers.

٦٩:٥١

وَإِنَّهُۥAnd indeed, it (is)لَحَقُّsurely (the) truthٱلْيَقِينِ(of) certainty٥١

And indeed, it is the truth of certainty.

٦٩:٥٢

فَسَبِّحْSo glorifyبِٱسْمِ(the) nameرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordٱلْعَظِيمِthe Most Great٥٢

So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.

الحاقة
